Preferred Solution: Satellite C70D-B-307 - Brightness keys stopped working after migration Windows10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Brightness Function Keys not working after Windows10 upgrade. Z50-70

hi eddy4823,

Welcome to the Forums.

I don't have a Z50-70 here for testing but can you try these steps:
1. Download and install this driver:

Intel VGA Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Lenovo Z40-70, Z50-70

When finished, try to the brightness hotkey and observe.

2. If problem remains, try to install the Win8.1 drivers (run it in compatibility mode if necessary) and try the brightness keys.

Intel VGA Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - Lenovo Z40-70, Z50-70

If the same issue arises, try to open Device Manger > right click on the Intel HD Graphics 4400 > choose Update driver software > Search automatically for updated driver software and observe.

Let me know how it goes.

Tecra A8 - Fn + F6/F7 keys for brightness adjustment have stopped working. Also my volume adjustment dial works but the pop up level indicator has stopped appearing.

Answer:Tecra A8 - Fn+F6/F7 keys for brightness adjustment have stopped working

Hi

Can you please tell us what OS you have?

Normally if the FN keys stop working you should try reinstalling Toshiba Value Added Package. This controls the FN keys and other special functions and in my case reinstalling this package worked.

You can download it here:

I'm struggling with my laptop. The a,z,b,n,\,/,?, left hand shift and enter keys have all stopped working overnight. Nothing has been spilt on it and I've cleaned it. I've checked that my keyboard drivers are up to date, run a virus scan, installed malwarebytes and run another scan. I read that a certain windows update could cause this problem but it's not in my list of updates. I'm running out of ideas and the onscreen keyboard is driving me crazy! Ay help would be very gratefully received

I just got my R630 and I started deleting some of the 'unecessary' software, then some of the special FN keys on my keyboard stopped working such as the wireless on/off keys, the keypad on/off key plus the eco and display output buttons on the top right of the keyboard.

Any ideas on how to restore then? Thanks

Answer:Satellite R630 - Special keys stopped working

Hey,

Why you have removed the software? I mean Toshiba install all necessary drivers and tools that you can use your properly with all functions easy. So why you remove the Toshiba tools?

Anyway, you need Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. Both tools control the FN keys where you can turn off WLAN, touchpad, etc.

Everything what you need you can find here:

Hello to everyone,

Everything started a month ago or so.
My laptop (a Toshiba Satellite P850-12Z) keyboard started to fail. First was the backspace key, but afterwards was the numpad 3 key, and the enter key.

They start working if I hit them repeatedly around 10 seconds or so. You can imagine that this is very annoying and frustrating.

Do I need a new keyboard? For more information, the keyboard also fails in linux.

In case I need a new keyboard I think that Toshiba has very poor quality, and I will never buy again a Toshiba Laptop.

My last laptop was from another brand and the keyboard never failed in 5 years.

Answer:Satellite P850-12Z - Several keyboard keys stopped working

> Do I need a new keyboard?

Probably yes.
Connect external keyboard and check if its working properly.

If the external USB keyboard would work, then there is no problem with the keyboard controller but with internal keyboard.

Hello,
Some of my multimedia keys have stopped working. The Browser key works fine, but the play/pause, stop etc. buttons don't work. They used to work a while ago but now... I am runing Windows XP 32bit. Can someone help?

Answer:Satellite A200-1ZF Multimedia Keys stopped working

Hi

The machine Sat A200-1ZF belongs to the PSAE6E series.
There is a driver or tool on the Toshiba European driver page which is needed, to get the Toshiba Controls buttons working again!

You need to download the Controls 2.48.2.2C.
Remove the old utility from the OS and reinstall the new application.

Hello,

Excuse me for my bad English. I have a problem with my Satellite A 300 PSAG4E-0450. OS was changed from Vista to XP. Easy keys, hot keys and illumination stopped operating. All drivers were downloaded. I tryed to find this in control panel -> Toshiba Controls. I changed to on/off light, but it isn't work. If i try to turn off I see a window with "choose a command".

What can be wrong?
Thanks for Your help.

Answer:Satellite A300 - Some keys stopped working after downgrde from Vista to XP

Hi!

As far as I know the illumination can be disabled and enabled in BIOS.
Check this!

For the hot keys you should try to install the Toshiba controls and hotkey utilites.
Check the Toshiba website: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

I hope this is useful for you.

I have a Satellite L500D, model PSLT6A-015003 notebook, windows 7 (32 Bit) and the FN key(s) and the touch pad has stopped working.

I have downloaded from the Toshiba download page the touch pad and the FN key downloads, but nothing works.

Can someone please tell me how to get these working again, even if it is only the touch pad.

Answer:Satellite L500D PSLT6A - FN keys and touchpad stopped working

Flash cards are controlled by Flash cards utility and this utility is part of Toshiba Value Added package. If this package is installed on your machine remove it from the system, restart your notebook and install latest version from Toshiba download page.

Please test also follow option:
Open flash cards settings and enable option ?Allow the mouse to bring up the cards? and test if this works.

Please check touch pad properties. Check if touchpad is properly listed and enabled in device manager (Mice and other pointing devices).

Second thing that you should check is control panel > mouse > device settings (last tab). Be sure Synaptics touchpad is listed there and it is not disabled.
As last step be sure touchpad is not disabled with FN key combination (if possible).

I installed Windows 7 64bit with all drivers. Everything worked well but recently stopped working the upper Keys (eco, wi-fi, volume, backlight). Helps only a permutation of Windows. Why?

I reinstalled value added package 1.3.4, but it is not nothing changed

Sorry for my english =)))

Answer:Satellite A660-13P (PSAW3E-01T00PPL) - Upper keys stopped working

Hey,

I?m not Satellite A660 owner but usually if you reinstall Value Added Package, the illuminated buttons should start working again. But important is that you remove the old version of VAP first before you install the newest version. Also you should run CCleaner after uninstallation to remove old registry keys.

Last but not least check also the BIOS. In BIOS setup you can enable/disable these buttons and illumination.

Hello,Having a problem with my laptop keyboard where the hotkey function buttons have suddenly stopped working as they used to. Pressing any of the hot keys results in an f1-12 rather than the previous function of changing volume, toggling keyboard lights and changing brightness etc. This happened around the time of me installing some new drivers for an audio interface so may be related to that. Ive tried going into the BIOS and toggling the hotkey option on and off, and installing hp quick launch software but nothing has worked so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance - C. A little info: I have a yoga 3, windows 8 computer. I think it's running 8.1 currently. My keyboard has a top row of keys that are usually the F keys. They are also brightness and volume adjusting keys. They seem to be primarily volume etc with the F keys in orange as a secondary use. Today after having support help me with some issues it was changed so that the F keys are the primary button and the volume, brightness, as well as the escape button don't respond. I know I saw at one point in the settings a place where I could change the keyboard to either use the F keys or the command keys as the primary key but I can't find that place again. Does anyone know how I can switch back my keyboard to using the volume, brightness, and escape button again?  Also one more question,When I swipe from the right and click settings to see the brightness there is a little screen picture with a lock on it. So it says the brightness is locked but when I go into my settings it says that the auto brightness is on. Not sure what the deal is with that and how do I change it? Thank you very much.

Answer:Windows10 (64-bit) - Lenovo Z50-70 Touchpad stopped working

Hi there, Sohailur                    -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Just found the same problem with my lenovo Z50. Touch pad completely non responsive.

Under start menu, settings, devices, mouse & touchpad, additional mouse options, elan tab. The elan touchpad settings were completely grayed out and unavailable.

So from there I went to the window search in the task bar and typed in "computer management? and opened the computer management desktop app. Under device manager selected mice and other pointing devices and then elan input device. In the elan properties window that opened I selected uninstall to uninstall the driver and in the next box that opened warning that the driver was about to be uninstalled l checked the delete driver and then OK. Then restarted windows. In the process of restarting windows detected the elan touchpad as a new device and installed the driver in time for the login screen. So my elan touch pad is now working again.

Here is the link to download the Lenovo Windows 10 driver for the touchpad from our support site.  -> TouchPad Driver Windows 10

Well, I downloaded controls driver, controls, power saver, hotkey utility for my Satellite A200-14D (PSAEC)but am still unable to adjust brightness of my screen via fn key.

Does that have anything to do with display drivers? (NVIDIA, I had to force install them, since Toshiba hasn't released driver for go7300)

Thanks

Answer:FN keys and brightness on Satellite A200-14D

Hi

This has nothing to do with the graphic driver but with the Power saver.

The Power saver XP driver and the Power saver XP utility are available on the Toshiba page.
You have to install firstly the driver and then after new reboot the Utility.

Additionally you need the Hotkey Utility to get the FN options working.

Best regards

I have installed the drivers bt the fn keys (brightness etc) will not work so the screen is very dark!

Is this true? Or is there way round this?

For me it sounds like you tried to install some applications which are not compatible with this notebook.
Where did you find the drivers?

On the Toshiba European driver page in Archive area you could find the drivers for Sat Pro M30

Answer:BRIGHTNESS KEYS F2 AND F3 NOT WORKING

Hi: Did you install the Intel graphics driver from your notebook's support page? Not having the graphics driver installed is normally why the brightness is stuck on maximum, and why you can't adjust it lower or use the Fn keys to adjust it. Go to the device manager and click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category. There you should see an Intel HD graphics adapter listed there. If you see a Standard VGA Adapter listed there, that means the graphics driver is not installed and that is why the Fn brightness keys don't work.

I seen all the past replies on fixing this problem. One even said HP enables the keys f1-f12 eventually. Even so, I brought this notebook just last Christmas '15.  Here's the rub,  Microsoft installed some updates recently, since then the f2 & f3 for bbrightness are the only f-keys enabled. Not all users are young, these keys are a must for seniors who are on computers and eyes aren't what they use to be. I even downloaded the driver again for this and still not workng. Should I take it back to store? Still under warrenty.

I've tried several methods, but nothing seems to work. I tried uninstalling and re-installing my device adapter that didn't solve it. Some suggested enabling/disabling the Fn key; I normally don't use the Fn key to increase brightness so I couldn't try that option. Every key/action that controls brightness does not work. HP does not post Windows 8 drivers for that laptop just 7 and 10. Check device manager and see what is showing for display adapter. If it is Microsoft Basic brightness adjustment will not work. I suspect you need quite a few drivers for it which we are going to have to help you get from hardware manufacturer sites.  Post back with identity of display adapter.

Answer:Satellite C660 - What driver for brightness keys to work?

Hello

As you can read in many other threads the FN keys require Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. Both tools can be downloaded on official Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/ > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Install Value Added Package at first, then Flash Cards Support Utility. After installation of both tools the FN keys will work as usual. :)

Hi,

I recently bought a Satellite Pro A200 (serie PSAE7E) with WIndows Vista and try to install Windows XP side by side.
After hours trying to install a XP in preferred way (3rd main partiton, 2nd is for Vista) and hunting for drivers (with moderate success) I stopped.

I am not able to get to work a function keys under XP (brightness, monitor, wireless and processor frequency keys). Under Vista these keys works ONLY when Toshiba Flash Cards application is running - when I turn this app of, these keys are also unavailable (Why??).

I browsed a forum and found a few threads talking this topics, also about BIOS update to XP version
But I do not found answers for my questions:

*1)* Is any software (like FlashCards but for XP) which _enable function keys under XP system_? configuration: (Vista + XP + BIOS for Vista)

*2)* If I upgrade a BIOS to XP version, what happen to my system Vista installed on my laptop? It stops stating, or function keys stops responding or even another componens would be unaccessible?
Someone tested configuration like that (Vista + XP + BIOS for XP)

*3)* It is possible to flash BIOS from Vista version to XP version and again to Vista version? (maybye I should flash BIOS before booting system?)

Currently I use BIOS in 1.70 Vista version, Vista from Toshiba Recovery DVD and XP SP2.

Answer:Brightness, function keys, WinXP and Satellite Pro A200

Hi mate,

long thread, short response:

1. No there is no software (no officially released and supported software) which is available for XP on a Sat A200.

2. Your system will work normally, only the behaviour of the function keys on bios level will change. If you flash the bios with the XP version than the function keys should be available under XP without any software.

3. Yes, it?s definitively possible to reflash the BIOS since many customers have machines with XP and want to use Vista (what I would never understand but ok..)

I hope every question was answered.

Answer:Brightness Function Keys( f2 and f3) NOT Working

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to make sure you have installed the graphics driver...if the graphics driver is not installed, then you can't adjust the brightness.  it is stuck on maximum. This package provides the driver that enables the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. If high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also installs the HDMI Audio Driver. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72501-73000/sp72652.exe

I have the strangest problem... When on battery (and only when on battery) my screen brightness keys (f2, f3) don't work. When I press them, the popup appears in the top left, but it won't move up or down with the keys. Using the touchscreen or a mouse I can drag it and it does indeed adjust the brightness. When plugged in to charge, the keys work as they would normally. I have tried disabling and enabling the "Generic PnP Monitor" device as well as reinstalling graphics and chipset drivers. I also tried changing the power profile and obviously restarting. Any ideas?

Hi,

I have the same problem: some of my function keys are not working.

My device is a HP zbook studio g3 with model number T7V83ES.

I did a clean install of 10 education since i could get that one for free and my previous version was enterprise. The keys worked on enterprise although I had some issues with it before only I forgot how to fix it. More people at my university that have the same laptop are experiencing the same problems, unfortunately this is not the case for everyone that owns the same laptop.

Here's what I did and what it resulted in:

-Installed every driver/program that seemed appropriate and was listed on the original  HP website for software and drivers for my device.
Result: My keys were not working at all. (brightness, project switch and mic mute keys)

-I asked google and tried every single solution I could find, including the ones you suggested.
Result: Mic mute key is working, project switch key is also working, and as if it was a miracle my brightness keys are also working! But: my brightness keys are stuttering like hell. It takes windows ages to register my keystroke and even longer to register another one directly following it; it can not register 2 keystrokes in a row, it needs a sort of cooling down time for the button.

This is a list of my installed drivers:

Answer:Brightness Function Keys( f2 and f3) NOT Working

Hi, Well that does explain why your f2/f3 keys aren't working as you only have the basic Microsoft driver installed - if the Intel driver was previously installed Ok, this may indicate a hardware issue. What happens if you try to install the Intel HD 5500 driver directly from Intel - it's the 2nd file in the list on the following link. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+5500+for+5th+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors If this does install Ok, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load for a couple of minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

I just got the x120e and I already went through and fixed it auto-brightening itself. After I hit the Fn + Home and adjusted it to my preference. It was not on the charger when I did that and I was in a darker room so I had the brightness down lower. Later on in the day, I plugged it in to charge and I went to make it brighter. The brightness is not changing however. All the oher Fn + F keys are working. Just not the two for brightness. The weird thing is, I shut the computer, waited for it to enter sleep mode then opened it up again and it was really bright and I had to pretty much squint, but again the keys were not working to lower it. I closed it again and opened it and it is again dimmer. The keys still aren't working. Any suggestions???

Hello, I have a HP Notebook PC - 15-r213ns (ENERGY STAR) with windows 8.1 Last night, after a windows update, the hotkeys for brightness (F2 and F3) the volume (F7 and F8), wifi (F12) and all the other ones have stopped working.  I can still change the brightness and volume through windows but i cant do it anymore using the keys. The functions keys do work, like F5 refresh or F3 browse. I have noticed that before i had to press the FN key for this and now it does it without the FN + Fx, so i suppose the windows update must have changed somthing here. They used to work fine before the update. I have re-installed the display drivers (NVIDIA G-FORCE 820-M) and looked for new drivers or updated drivers using HP Support asistant but everything is up to date. I was looking for hot key drivers in the HP drivers page for my product but couldnt find any keyboard, hotkeys related software or drivers. any suggestions? thanks in advance, Marco

Hi, I recently completely cleared my laptop and re-installed Windows 7 due to a virus. I am having issues with my brightness and volume control buttons on the keyboard. The brightness buttons do not work at all and there is no option to adjust the brightness via the power options either. My laptop is stuck on the highest setting. The volume buttons seem to adjust the volume appropriately, but the icon that typically appears in the middle of my screen when I do so is not there (the grey volume icon that appears when you use the f9 and f10 buttons and fades away shortly after). Additionally, the mute botton also seems to work but the red light on the f11 key does not respond accordingly, I only know it works from the volume icon on my taskbar.  I had some help from Paul Tikkanen in downloading several missing drivers for various other issues so I'm wondering if this is also a poblem that can be solved with a similar download? If not, is anyone able to suggest other solutions?  Thank you, Kristen

I've trawled around and seen that the issue of the F2 and F3 buttons for brightness doesnt actually change the brightness, I get the symbol but no change.

I also have an issue with the Beats scroll wheel which will not allow me to switch it to anti clockwise even when selected on the beats audio software.

From the looks of it the brightness issue is an old one and im shocked it's still happening, hopefully someone can give me a straight and easy fix to this, would be great

Hello, I have two Yoga 2 13's - I think both the 59403750 model. Both have the same specs. In one of those Yogas the brightness keys - "F11" and "F12" - do not work and it is full 100% brighness all the time. In the other (good) Yoga they seem to work OK - at least I can get the brighness down a few notches. When I press and hold the Fn key to get F11 or F12 to work the *seem* to do what F11 or F12 would do normally - e.g. in a word processor or browser. So it seems maybe just the brighness function of those keys are not working. Lenovo has calimed that this is not a hardware problem and they are not responsibile for it under warranty. I have done a little reading some time ago and seen something similar that was maybe fixed by installing updated video drivers. Well, that did not work - as of a couple months ago. At the time I also updated the BIOS - again no luck. Any ideas /inputs you might have are appreciated. Thank you.

Hello,

1) i am asking for your help about installing my Fn keys drivers for my Satellite A200 14 D PSAECE laptop.
My OS is Windows XP and i have Bitdefender Internet Security 2009 .
From the download page of Toshiba drivers i got all drivers for my laptop (36 of all - or close), but from the many Xp reinstalations i have done on my laptop, only one time all Fn keys worked when pressing Fn+key and the corresponding icons appeared on my display. I have read some forum topics and i understand there is a problem about the order in which i have to install them ( i already installed them all but it is not working ), so i need someone to tell me which are the drivers for Fn keys only and in which order to install. Please do not forget that i can deactivate my Bitdefender but not uninstall .

2) the same problem with the preset buttons above the keys - On-Off, Internet, Media Player, Play-Stop-Rewind, i need the exact driver and the order.

Thank you for your time :)
Sorry if this question is already answer in the forum somewhere, but i could not get this exact answer.

Answer:Satellite A200-14D PSAECE - Fn keys not working & other function keys

Hi

I remember that the BIOS should be updated to the Win XP version on Satellite A200 series.
There are two different BIOS versions and depending on the installed (Vista or Win XP) the right version should be used.

But there are many FN buttons which needs additional installation of different tools.
For example the Touch Pad On/Off Utility should be installed to use the FN+F9 buttons.

Furthermore you should install the Controls Driver 2.49.2.5C and Controls 3.22.2701 in order to get the Toshiba Control buttons functionality.

Hi, Try the following. Download the Intel HD Graphics installer on the following link and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp68001-68500/sp68117.exe When done, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the link below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp73501-74000/sp73543.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, do not restart as prompted, instead open your Downloads folder, right click the Intel Graphics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Start the notebook and let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hi all, Sometimes, when I come out of sleep or hibernation, the brightness controls Fn + up or end keys stops working. I recall this is handled by the BIOS / firmware of the laptop but it seems like the OS messes things up. I also understand that the OS does interface with this BIOS level feature as it adds the HUD display with the green bars (which also stop working when this problem occurs). Does someone know which service is responsible of handling this under Vista? I could look the task manager but without knowing what I must look for, it is not easy to restart this service. Edit: I just did an experiment. I put the laptop in hibernation using fn + F12. I let it turn off then powered it back on. Using the Fn + up or end worked while in the initial loading screen (the one that says windows is starting with the scrolling bar). Then comes the login screen. Once I was in my Vista account, the Fn short cut was not working again. So it really sounds like Vista is overriding the firmware behavior. Thanks for any help. Message Edited by marcbe on 04-06-2008 05:36 PM

I recently purchased a used Compaq 4I3IT laptop.{The I's there are supposed to be number ones.} Now several number keys and two letter keys stopped working. Can anything be done to correct this? Thank you.

Answer:Please Help....keys stopped working

SEEMS YU HAVE A HARDWARE PROBLEM. If you have no experience in working on PCs then either you contact the manufacturer or work with a repair tech with required experience to fix the fault
