Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

Question: Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

I have a C70D-A-107 and want to speed up this notebook. Already placed 4gb extra memory so the notebook has now 8gb internal. I doubt whether it is usefull to put in 2x8gb. I think the processor is just to slow. It has a AMD E1-2100 inside. Is it possible to put in another (faster) processor?

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

The Satellite C70D-A-107 was equipped with an AMD Essentials E1-2100 Accelerated CPU (1,00 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache)
It’s not the fastest CPU therefore the notebook performance isn’t the best…

But CPU upgrade isn’t officially supported by notebook manufacturer... therefore I don’t think that you will be able to upgrade the CPU…

I read about successful Intel CPU upgrades but did not meet anyone who was able to perform an upgrade with an AMD CPU

Just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as far as I know until know), except boot from DVD. I disabled in the bios the Secure Boot and changed the boot order to DVD first, then USB and then HDD. The DVD drive starts, but then it skips to the HDD and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so that is not the problem.
I would like to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Anyone solved this problem already?

Answer:Satellite C70D - How to boot from DVD

Update: changing from UEFI to CMS in the BIOS Advanced tab makes it possible to boot from DVD, but Windows won't boot anymore.... Is there any possibility to boot from DVDE and still be able to start Windows as well?

Hello everybody,
the Toshiba Sat C70D-B-317 (PSCLEE01L009FR) is on it's way and I don't have it for the moment but I would like to know if there is a way to add some Ram to this machine without opening everything?
Also, is it possible to change the HD in the future in the same conditions?

sorry, but it's my first PC laptop and as a Mac user I'm completely lost with all these models and different serial numbers.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

1. yes you can upgrade your RAM, This laptop has 2 slots with one 4GB standard so if you would you can put one more 4GB. With 2x4 you have Dual-channel and that works much faster than single

I don't know if your HDD can e upgraded. When it's not possible you can always buy a external HDD

I hope i helped you

i see that the site don't provide all download drivers. In the device management I have still 2 drivers missing
pci encryptions/decryption controller and unknown device.

Can someone help me out with it?

Answer:Need some drivers for my Satellite C70D-B-10U

According notebook specification your machine was delivered with preinstalled Win8.1 64BIT ML.
Original preinstalled version is perfectly configured with all necessary drivers.

The question is: what are you doing with your machine?
Do you try to use some older Windows version?

My wive purchase this computer coupple of months ago. It was from the beginning ferry slow on windows 8
The wurst laptop we ever had. We feel robbed of our money.

2 months ago we started with Ubuntu. It Still slow. IS there anybody with the same problems?

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

Hi Marco

I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm what you wrote but fact is that almost all new notebooks are pretty slow at the beginning. Many applications are set to start with Windows and this, of course, slows down boot time.
Windows updates are also set to automatic so in the background the machine will download and install many updates so this will slow down your machine rapidly.

In my opinion you should install original OS that you got with this machine and optimize it a bit.
Remove all useless stuff, change start-up option and disable automatic Windows updates.
In the past I have noticed that original preinstalled antivirus is also responsible for notebook?s performance so I don't use original preinstalled application but my own version of Avir Antivir and it runs perfectly.

Check all these options and I hope your machine will run much better than before.

I'm looking for a new display for my Toshiba Satellite C70D-A-11K!

Please help!

Answer:Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

The Satellite C70D-A-11K was equipped with the 17.3" LED color LCD panel with the supporting max resolution of 1600 x 900 px
You should be able to order such display panel from local Toshiba authorized service provider or you could check some 3rd part online dealers who provide compatible notebook parts…

As I mention above: you should look for the 17.3" panels.

Good evening,

I'm sorry to disturb,
but I find myself in a situation to which I find no solution,
that's why I come here asking for some help.

A friend has just purchased the following laptop:
- Satellite C70D-B-307

but the worry is that apparently it is impossible to have access to the HDD recovery to execute the factory restoration.
I try all possible solutions that I find on the web and none of it works.

what to do ?

does Toshiba sell the recovery DVDs that will restore the computer to its factory state?

Thank you very much .

I picked up a brand new c70d-b-10u today from a well known retailer.
I turned it on, set the language, gave a computer name, hooked up to a wi fi and then it asked for Other User Password!

I never entered a password to start with so why is it asking for one?

I cannot get to the shop again until next week and urgently need to get up and running.

Any ideas greatly received.

Answer:Brand new Satellite C70D-B-10U wants a password?

Try to recover the notebook once again using the HDD recovery option.

The recovery procedure would reset the notebook back to factory settings… usually after that no passwords should be set…

Hi all,

My grandmother recently bought this Toshiba, mostly i recommend people a Toshiba but this is going to far.

I wasn't aware that she bought a laptop untill she called me and said she needs help because she never worked with such a slow computer as this Toshiba.

So my question is

How much logic does Toshiba has? I mean putting 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM ( ok nice for a casual laptop ) doesn't quite fit with a >>1GHz<< processor. for the rest the specs aren't terrible.

Can somebody explain me why this laptop has a 1GHz processor with 6GB of RAM. this doensn't makes sence at all

After a regular shutdown I cannot boot the system anymore.
System starts but does not boot.

Referring to the manual (section 6, solutions of problems) I tried to hit [F12] after power on but nothing happened.
Same when hitting [F2].

My impression is that something failed on hard disk drive.

P.S. system has Win10 installed.

I have a Satellite C70D-A-114...

i hardly used it because it was slow

so i wanted to sell it

first i wanted to set it back to factory settings

doing that, in that process i seem to have deleted all files

so now i get message no bootable disc etc.

Tried everything, there is simply no recovery file

So where can i find such a file for free? It's just not normal that it is not on the site.

Answer:Need recovery files for my Satellite C70D-A-114

All you can find for free are all drivers, tools and utilities. Original recovery image (software package) is not for free and if you need it you must order recovery disc directly by Toshiba.

You can order it on

By the way: in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can create recovery installation disc. I’m wondering you didn’t make it in the past.

Hi There,

I have had a Satellite C70D for about 18 months now, but have not used it in the past year as I have been disputing with customer services about the windows licence for the machine as I lost it when I formatted the original hard drive before installing an SSD and they wouldnt send me a copy of it. I have now bitten the bullet and bought a windows 10 licence again. However since building the machine a few days ago, I have been having a couple of issues and as it is now out of warranty, I cannot contact customer support (Who I found unhelpful even when it was in warranty!)

The first issue is when I boot up the machine, occasionally the keyboard will not work, I cannot type the BitLocker pin and I have to remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this then fixes the issue for a few reboots before it goes again.

The second is that occasionally it will boot up with a red x next to the WiFi symbol, but it detects the WiFi card, usually a reboot fixes this but not always. I have reseated the card and still no avail.

Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing this? The BIOS is up-to-date as are all of the drivers.

Thanks in advance for your help

My girlfriend bought me a new Toshiba laptop C70D-B-10U (my second Toshiba), it is a good laptop apart from the speakers they are terrible. I didn't want my first post to be a complaint but, Toshiba cut corners when it put the speakers in this series of laptops.

Or have I not set them right has anyone else had this problem, any ideas or solutions thank you.

Answer:Bad Speakers on Satellite C70D-B-10UM

I think your notebook has only small stereo speakers and the sound is not the best. I have Satellite S50-B with Harman/kardon speakers and sound is really good.

You can try to change sound options but if you want to have better sound I’m afraid you need external speakers, Maybe BT speakers.

I have 2 issues with my new Satellite C70D-B-32U.
When I put it in sleep mode, it does. But after about 5 minutes, it goes automatically to hibernate. This I don't want. And I don't want to disable hibernate, because I do use it when the laptop is not in use for longer periods. The power settings in control panel do not reflect this behaviour. In the settings, I specified that the laptop should never go to hibernate. Hybrid state is disabled.

And secondly, more importantly. Whenever it goes to hibernate, I can only wake it up with the power button. Not with the (internal) keyboard, not with the usb mouse. I would like an option to wake it from hibernate by pressing any key on the keyboard. In bios power on keyboard is set to on. Is there anything else I can change to have this available?
Actually if issue 1 is solved and the laptop stays in sleep mode, this issue is also solved since from sleep I can wake on a mouseclick which is also fine.

The OS is windows 8.1

Hi All,

I have an Satellite C70D-A-11D ... when I use once the FN Key to do a Print Screen or use the Screen-Zoom on the Space Key...

I am not able to use the Keynumbers 1 to 4 neither the space Key to enter a space between two always change between the bigger screen solution or the normal solution...

I only can change the FN Key again after change the settings in Display settings and after a reboot...
So I cant use FN without a reset with the F1 to F12 Key use and a reboot...

Normaly the FN Key works only if it is pressed...if not the normal Function of the Keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?

What to do?

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D Function Key deactivate after use

First of all you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)

This function can be changed in BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration

Check this option.

So I bought this laptop a few months ago.
For the past few weeks the Laptop stopped playing sound.
I watched a stream in Chrome.

So actually I should be able to see the sound playing in the mixer.
But I wasn't able to play any sound or get any deflection in the mixer.

Then I installed Speccy and as this administration window popped up a sound was played and it worked.

I have no idea why the sound stopped working and why it started again.
Is someone able to help me?

I am using Windows 8.1

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D - no sound, random

The main thing is that you have sound again. It is not easy to say what was wrong there.
Have you installed some updates or anything else that can be responsible for this sound issue?

Answer:Can I replace the HDD in my Satellite C70D-B -00P model with an SSD?

Generally speaking yes, you can do this but problem is that your notebook model doesn't have HDD cover at the bottom side.
To have full access to the HDD the bottom cover must be removed completely but it should be done by authorized service only.

Of course you can try to do it alone but I?m afraid you may lose the warranty.
If possible contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask for help.

All I can do is move the cursor and use the mousepad when keeping the left mouse button at the same time.
Anyone a solution?

To be honest I’ve never heard about such touchpad behaviour.
Have you tested all touchpad settings?
If there is option to set all of them on default settings please do this and test functionality again.

Anyway, best hardware test is to reinstall operating system and check touchpad functionality with “factory settings”.

I have buy a Satellite C70D-A-11T and pass it on Windows 7 64 bits Home Premium.
I install all the drivers and I haven't any problems.

When I want to connect it to my TV for first time, I discover there is no sound on the TV.
I try to go on the speaker (near the clock of windows), right click, sound, first tab (I think it is "Playback" in english... I have a french Windows) and my device (TV) doesn't appear.

I come back on Toshiba Support website to download the last driver "HDMI Audio driver" for my laptop, I connect the cable, and it appear in the sound properties. I select it as my default device and the sound come right from my TV.

Great !

But when I restart my laptop (with or without the HDMI cable), the TV disappear from the list in the sound properties, the only one solution to recover the sound is to reinstall the HDMI Audio Driver.
If I start the driver installation with the "advanced" option, I have the list of drivers to install and I see all drivers are already installed, but the HDMI Audio Driver will be upgraded... I install it and it work until the next restart.

Could you explain me why the version of the driver don't stay on the system, and how to make it work without reinstall it everyday ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Answer:Satellite C70D-A: game lags due to graphic chip?

Well, I?m wondering why you purchased a unit with an internal (part of CPU) graphic chip if you want use the notebook for gaming?

The notebook supports the AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics which is part of AMD Quad-Core A6-5200 CPU.
Such GPU is similar to Intel HD GPU which is also part of Intel CPUs.

Such internal graphic cards are not really designed for gaming? of course you would be able to run and to play a game but don?t expect too much?

ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E (05.2014) won?t to read DVDs anymore. It doesn't matter which one I try it simply doesn't work.
Latest driver is installed.

Message was edited: posting has been translated

Answer:ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E wont read DVDs anymore

If optical disc drive is installed properly maybe is reading lens dirty. Try to clean it up.

Other way, if your ODD can read CDs but not DVDs it can also be hardware malfunction. The reading lens cannot be calibrated properly and cannot find the right position to read DVD media.

In such case ODD must be exchanged.

Try to clean lens up and check if the problem persists. If yes contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

As mentioned, i allready downloaded all drivers for this laptop and installed them, windows is ofcourse up-to-date. Also I let windows search for drivers on the Internet and on the whole drive, but no drivers where found.

Who can give me the golden tip?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-306 - 2 unknown devices in device list

There is a good method in order to find out what drivers are missing.
First of all you should check the DEV (device) and VEN (vendor) IDs

Here is an short instruction how to find this details:

Knowing the device and vendor ID, it should not be a big deal to get the right drivers.

At the other hand you should install also additional Toshiba software (Toshiba System Driver) released for Win 8.1
Please note also that there are two Win 8.1 driver areas: ?Win 8.1 update? and ?Win 8.1 32bit/64bit? categories
In case you would not find all drivers within the Win 8.1 update check also the Win 8.1 32bit/64bit categories.

Hi all,

excuse the new thread but I haven't found any answers anywhere online, just speculation and it's for different models.

So I have a C70D-B-10U, running windows 7 64bit pro. When I formatted it and updated everything, it just kept crashing when trying to play back videos on Windows Media Player. I cleaned the inside and replaced thermal paste, updated to even newer drivers, and started using VLC as my default media player. It rarely crashed BUT it always does when I try to start playing games (nothing heavy - League of Legends). Laptop seems to be doing well with memory tests, no faults detected.

I've read that this could be caused by:
Faulty GPUFaulty BatteryFaulty PSUBad Capacitors on the MOBO

Has anyone had any similar experience? I've reinstalled Windows and it's the same story. If it's a motherboard issue, I guess it would be better to just get a new one?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-10U no warning crash (power, GPU or capacitors)

Update: I decided to test the RAM and it seems like it can't handle 8GB. Both 4GB sticks work on any slot, but when I have all of it on the machine it crashes. Do you think it is a motherboard issue?

Hi there,

I was bought the above model of laptop for an early Christmas present which usually sits down in the living room, my old Satellite Pro sat down there with no issues however with this device the wireless signal is very low and I appear to be having it sitting right next to the wireless router (which is located upstairs in my sons bedroom), I wondered if there's any steps I could take to improve the signal?

It baffles me how a new system has such a poor wireless signal when my old Satellite Pro which was 6 years old had no wireless issues whatsoever.

My other issue is from the moment I switched the laptop on (yesterday when it was delivered) the updates on Windows Update are slow or don't start at all, is this an issue or just normal?

I'd appreciate any help or input at all, thank you.

I've added this Satellite C70D-A-111 to an existing network which includes an printer.
Other devices can print OK but not this Toshiba.
The message is "Printer is in Error State".

If I connect the Toshiba to the printer via USB, it prints OK.

Can somebody steer me in the right direction please?

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-111 - Can't print using network printer but USB connection works

Do you use this printer at home or in your company?
I mean if you use it in your company ask system administrator for help.

Would be grateful for any advice to remove the back panel.

I've removed battery, ~16 screws + 1 tiny screw at the optical drive and whilst it does 'unclick' everywhere else, there seems to be something stopping the panel being removed just above the battery compartment and don't want to force it.

Even our IT guys at work cannot work it out.

PLEASE new laptop is very slow so have purchased RAM but can't access the back.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-30D: How to access back panel after ~16 screws removed

At first I must say that you should not remove bottom cover alone because it will cancel valid warranty. If there is no RAM cover, RAM should be exchanged or upgraded by authorized personal only.

I know every of us think it is easy to do and want to do this alone.
What I know is follow:
2 screws in the middle are fixing the keyboard. What must be removed are 14 screws and small flat screw at the optical drive. That’s all. There is no other hidden screw.

Of course there are also small plastic holders and bottom cover must be removed very gently.

Hello everybody,
brand new C70D two days old, if I want to look a Youtube video full screen after a few minutes, the C70D stops, blue screen with a message : your computer gets a problem, we collect informations ect.
After a restart the same problem comes again a few minutes later.
I have 14 days to accept this machine, but if it's a graphic card problem I prefer to return it to the vendor.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

I've only noticed today that when I turn up my laptop's volume up to about 28 (even with headphones in), there's this high pitch noise that comes from the speakers. And I'm sure it's the speakers and not anything else.
But the sound is sort of that real ear-killing noise so I can't listen to it for long. It even sometimes sounds like thousands of crickets - a complete nightmare

But with my volume at any level below 28 I can listen to whatever through headphones without the sound bothering me.

Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I do know a thing or two about computers but nothing about anything extremely technical and I'm not sure if I want to take it apart, unless I really have to.

If you could help me it would be appreciated!

I got a wireless mouse and so, using F5 disabled the touchpad. Now I can't get it to work again. I was told, by the support robot/person here, to turn the laptop off and then to remove the battery and AC adapter before pressing and holding the power button on the laptop for 10 seconds. Then I should replace the AC adapter, leaving the battery out, before turning the machine on and then immediately start tapping the F2 key. This will take me into BIOS. Once there and the BIOS menu has loaded, tap the F9 key and then press Enter. This will reset BIOS to the default settings. To exit the BIOS, tap the F10 key and then press Enter. This will restart the laptop.

The trouble is I cannot do any of this as the battery is does not seem to be removable, by the customer at least, on this product.
Had I been able to achieve this and found the cure not to have happened that I should reinstall the touchpad driver.

As I cannot do what is advised, in correct sequence, I am at a loss as to just what I should do. HELP PLEASE.

Answer:Touchpad on Satelite C70D-12U not working

You dont need to remove the battery, you can do a hard reset by holding down the power button for 20 seconds.

Does the touchpad work in the BIOS?
If no, there may be a hardware problem.
If yes, uninstall the touchpad driver in Control Panel, then let Windows Update install the new driver.

I have two C70D's. Both died within weeks of each other, and went back for repair with RepairTech, under warranty.

Both machines failed to boot, with an error code(?) of three flashes of the power button.

One machine came back within a week, fully working.

The other took three weeks, came back with a change of motherboard (they say). I unpacked it, and it was still not booting, still flashing three times on the power button.

I phoned repairtech, immediately, sent it back, the next day.

Today it came home, again, I opened wont boot, and does the same three flashes on the power light.

Back on the phone. They've booked it in again, saying maybe it's a peripheral. The only peripheral is the power adaptor. I have two. It doesn't work with either.

I believe the problem is battery related, but it's an internal battery so I can't open it without voiding the warranty.

Has anyone else had problems with RepairTech? Does anyone know if this is a battery problem?

I have recieved my Toshiba m30 1.6 pentium m laptop back from John Lewis after having the LCD screen replaced. After using it for a few hours last night i realised the fan had not come on once.
I checked the cpu speed and it's set at 600mhz. I can't change it no matter what i do. It was fine before it went for repair. I set the always full option in the bios but it's still 600mhz. Even playing dvds it's the same and the fan never comes on. Before it went for repair, there was an option in Toshiba power saver where you could set the speed to always high or dynamic etc..... but now there is only an option to set the level, either 1 2 or 3. Also, i had previously updated the bios to 1.60 and when i looked after getting it back it was 1.20? Is there any reason why Toshiba needed to do that? I updated the bios back to 1.60 and its still the same.

Answer:Satellite M30, cpu speed?

looking at Your story, it seems you have had more than just a LCD replacement. I guess the servicepartner also changed the PCB (motherboard). If they do that they need to update a special firmware to get the full CPU-speed. If they fail to do this, the machine runs at a fixed speed of 600MHz. Just as You describe it.
So my suggestion, get in contact with the serviceprovider and ask them if they changed the motherboard and if they did, ask them to update the CPU microcode.

good luck

I have just bought a new Satellite Pro L10 and can't upgrade USB driver from 1.1 to 2.0 (which by the way should be already installed).

?I have tried all upgrades for Windows XP.
?BIOS version is V2.0 1549MHz
?USB controller-device is not configured correctly.
Code1- yellow warning

Every time when installation is completed in 55% the warning appears informing that 'usbehci.sys' file is needed. Does anyone know what to do? I can't find this file anywhere.

Answer:Satellite Pro L10- low speed USB

As far as I know ?Code 1? means that the driver for USB is not installed or not enabled. Furthermore the USB 2.0 is already enabled on this unit. You don?t need make any upgrades. In my opinion you should check the USB BIOS settings. Furthermore you should try to remove the USB device from ?Device Manager?.
After rebooting the OS should recognizes the USB interface.
Here you can find the missing file:

I have had my toshiba satellite s50-b-15p for about a month or so now. It is a great lightweight machine. One problem I have with it is the fan is incredibility loud. Loading Windows the fan seems to spin rapidly and it sounds like an aircraft taking off (but seriously it is loud). Even if i open task manager or a webpage such as youtube and the processor spikes a little then the fan just blows up. I have never heard a fan spin this much or be as loud and I work in IT. I am unsure if this is normal with this laptop? It is an i7 5500u with SSD and 8gb ram, surely this should be a high performing with minimal noise machine?

Answer:Satellite S50-B-15P Fan Speed

If someone could let me know if this is normal or not it would be really appreciated as I am going to take it back to the store today to get it checked out. I don't think it should be so loud but maybe this is just poor design by toshiba?

Having just purchased a laptop as above I am faced with the question of what speed DVD to use.
The John Lewis PC after sales help service advised me that times 16 DVD's sometimes cause trouble and that I should seek X8 and use these if possible although they say they are now almost as rare a hens teeth. The say that a X16 may be OK but X8 would be more reliable.

I have not booted up my laptop yet as am awaiting supply of X8 that I located on Ebay as advised DVD-R NOT + should be used. I note that the disc tray is marked Rewritable + leading to more confusion.

Will make copy of operating software when the X8 are received and not before.

Any advise or observations would be most appreciated

My computer recently turned off and overheated while the fan clunked away which told me I needed to clean the fan and heatsink. I did so, replaced everything and then switched my computer back on. The fan sounds fine now except it only turns on for about a second and a half and then cuts out. While the computer's on, it doesn't overheat but the fan just tries again and again and again to keep spinning and cuts out after a second or so. I think in order to compensate, the computer is only operating at a percentage of its capacity because on top of the fan not working properly, the computer is running about 50 percent slower than it was 10 seconds before it overheated.

When I replaced the fan, I noticed that the plug that the fan goes into was wobbly, could that have something to do with it?

Any help, solutions or insight would be incredibly appreciated.

Regards, Niko

Answer:Satellite A10 - Fan and CPU speed problem

Hi mate,

In your case it could be that the cable from the fan to the mainboard could be faulty. So, you?ve already disassembled it, so just do it again, remove the fan and check if the cables and connectors are OK.

If the fan or the cable is damaged then replace the fan. IMHO the bearings could be defective too, so this is another reason to replace such fan (and the fan is really NOT very expensive)

If you need some parts, google for or ask a authorized service center for parts:

Is there an update for this?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Low DVD burning speed on Satellite M70

Hi Diogo

The DVD burner is not the only factor that decides on what speed the medias should be written. I am pretty sure that you know that it depends on media itself and burning software too.

Did you try to use different DVD medias to check the burning speed? I recommend you to use well known DVD producers like TDK. I use it for a long time with different burners and till now never had any problem and the burning speed was always as declared on empty DVD.

Q1: What is your notebook model?

Q2: Why do you think that there could be a fan problem?

Q3: Does the notebook shut off due to overheating or what is the problem exactly?

The fan functionality is controlled by BIOS as well as the settings within the Windows advanced power options.

You are right, the integrated LAN card; Atheros QCA8171B supports the networks: 1000BASE-T/100Base-TX/10Base-T

In order to use the full range, the router should also support the 1000BASE-T.
Did you check this?

Furthermore you can change the different LAN settings in:
Device manager -> LAN card -> Properties -> Advanced tab

Here you should check if 1000BASE-T option is enabled and chosen.

I would recommend you also to check the BIOS settings because as fat as I know some LAN function could be Enable/Disable in BIOS

Answer:New Satellite C notebook - Lack of speed

Many people have reported about similar issues with brand new notebooks. Don't understand me wrong but it is nothing unusual.
Toshiba uses standard settings, several applications are installed that run in the background and preinstalled antivirus can slow down OS rapidly.

What you need is OS optimization. Disable for instance automatic Windows update. Can you imagine when you work on your machine that in background Windows update makes download and install all of them? I mean t make your notebook working pretty slow.
Change these settings, remove all useless applications from the system, check start-up entries and disable all stuff you don't need from start-u.

I also think you should remove preinstalled antivirus. What I use is Avira Antivirus. It is free and runs without using a much resources.

Play a bit with all this stuff and I hope notebook will run much better than before.

One more thing: don't forget to create recovery media.

Answer:Satellite P100-400 SO-dimm top speed?

Hi dude

The max supported memory speed depends on the FSB speed.
I?m not 100%sure what FSB this unit supports but I assume it?s 667MHz.

In this case all compatible memory modules could support max with 667Mhz speed.
If you will use the 800Mhz modules the max speed will stay at 667Mhz.

However, you have to use modules which support these specifications: DDR2 (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM

First, know that I?m French so sorry for bad English I may use,

I work in a confined area with some other computers, and, it becomes pretty hot in there...

My P100-286 (I?ve also seen it called P100-473) is quite hot and I want to speed up the fan manually because it seems that the OS I have (Vista SP1 or Debian in dual boot) can't do it and the problem is that the CPU, and probably the geforce, are heating the keyboard and this is really unpleasant ...

The BIOS setting that manages fan is already set on "performance mode" but this is not really better....
So How can I make fans turn at full speed?

Answer:How to change fan speed on Satellite P100-286?

In my opinion there is no much to do. The same, maximum performance option can be set in Toshiba power saver options. I do not know where you work but you can try to place back side of your laptop on higher position (two books or CD boxes) and distance between desktop and laptop will be higher. The cooling fan will work better and also the air circulation should be better than before.

Be also sure the cooling fans are clear and there is no dust. Satellite P100 is not the newest notebook model and I can imagine the cooling fans are already dirty. Check it out!

a solution can be to make a Bios update to the latest version and to reinstall the chipset drivers under Windows. If this does not help, then try a reinstall of your whole system with the help of your recovery CD.

But don?t forget to backup your important data before. ;)

Should this not help you out, then it will be better to contact a local service partner to let them check your machine.

Just ordered me one of these, and was wondering if anyone knows the max RAM speed that
is supported by the motherboard/bios? I know the APU itself is supporting 2133 RAM, but will
the rest support it?

It is coming with just one 8 Gb stick of DDR3L 1600, so dropping in another stick to enable dual-channel
will be a no-brainer, but as I got such a good deal, I was thinking could just as well go for 2 sticks of
1866 or 2133 if that is supported. Should let the integrated graphics stretcht it's legs and then some.

Answer:Satellite P50D-C-105 max supported RAM speed?

AMD Carrizo Quad-Core Mobile Processor A10-8700P which is built in the notebook supports the DDR3-2133 (35 Watt cTDP) memory controller.
So I guess 2133Mhz could be supported…

But Toshiba recommends this module:
8GB DDR3L-1600 PA5104U-1M8G
This is an DDR3 SODIMM PC3-12800 (voltage 1.35v) supporting the 1600Mhz memory speed…

I've got a Satellite A60 with XP Home and the USB transfer speed is very very low. It is 2.0, but it doesn't work properly, because it takes about 30 min to copy 1GB data to an external 2.0 USB drive.

I've tried my USB drives on another computers and work fast and fine, so it's probably just a problem of drivers, but can't find them on Toshiba's web to reinstall them. I've heard that this is a usual problem after installing XP Service Pack 2, but I didn't do anything, I'm using the operative system as it came when I bought the notebook (with original XP Home SP2 preinstalled), I didn't change any configuration neither install drivers that may affect to USB controllers, and it has always been so slow.

Anyone could help? I've tried to reinstall drivers from Toshiba but I think there are not special ones just for USB, what should I update then? I need desperately to improve USB data transfer speed for professional purposes, because I can't loose so much time data transferring, please please please help!!!

P.S: Sorry for my terrible English, but there are no Toshiba forums on my language :P

Answer:Satellite A60 - USB transfer speed very slow

The USB drivers are a part of the operating system and you cannot download the USB drivers separately.
I think there is really not necessary to reinstall the USB drivers because the USB HDD was recognized correctly and it works.

The USB 2.0 supports 480 Mbps transfer speed and if any error message didn?t appears then the USB ports should works with full speed.

For details please check this Microsoft page;

Last but not least I would recommend update the XP to the latest state. I mean you should install all available patches and hotfixes.

Dear reader,

I recently upgraded my Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 to 2GB, DDR2 667mhz (Corsair ValueSelect) RAM because the old 512mb ram wouldn't cut it anymore with all those processes.
Now, when I check my ram speed with CPU-Z it says 200mhz, while this should be 333mhz. I checked the chipset (Radeon Xpress 200m) for compatibility and it is compatible with ram up to 667mhz.

Additional specs:
Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 - PSL2YE-005009DU
Windows XP Pro SP3
Intel Celeron M360 1.4ghz
2GB DDR2 667 Mhz
Radeon Xpress 200m chipset

Now, to state my question; I'd like to run my ram at 333mhz for many reasons, cause if it won't I'd been better off buying cheaper, slower RAM.
How can I run this, I can't access the bios to adjust this, how can I access/bypass the locked bios?

If you need any more information just tell me.

Kind regards,
Patrick Bos.

Answer:Satellite Pro L20 - RAM runs with lower speed

Maybe CPU-Z isn?t reading the informations properly... Who knows?!

Furthermore maybe the RAM modules are maybe not compatible to run at 667MHz speed. I don?t have experience with Corsair Value Select modules?

Last but not least you can do nothing. There is no BIOS option or something else where you can change this. Furthermore this higher RAM speed will not bring a strong performance boost.

By the way: Have you checked the speed of your old modules?

Hi all,

I have a very boring problem with my optical drive - it only writes CDs at 6-8x and DVDs at 2x! Nothing more! I have been reading many forums and it seems I am not the only one to have this problem. Only it seems that there is no fix to this issue so far. The DVD multi drive is a Matsu****a UJ 841s and its very producer has no support for this item, at all. There is a firmware update available somewhere I could find but it only works for Vaio OEM.

Again, I am only interested to release my drive to its normal capabilities and not to unlock any kind of region code or other. I just want it to work at the performance I bought it for, that's all.
Can anyone help?
Thank you all.

Answer:Satellite Pro L20 - slow DVD burning speed

Hi Cosmin

Do you have this problem since first day? Did you try to use different empty discs? Which burning program you use? If you use for example 16x max CD which speed options are listed in burning application?

I'm trying in vain for few days to find what is the max soeed for memory my p25 s607 motherboars suports, ddr 266,333,400.
Some tells me that the chipset is 865 pe so it suports up to 400, some memory compnies garantee copatibility only up to 333.
Were can I find an oficial answer to this?

Answer:Satellite P25-s607: Which max memory speed is possible?

Why you start several postings about the same issue?
You have asked it about this in your first posting:

The fact is that the chipset is 865PE + ICH5 and most motherboards with this chipset allow you to use the DDR400/333/266 DIMM memory modules.
In your first posting you can find the modules which you can use. (266/333Mhz)
I think you can also use the 400MhZ modules.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L650-116 psk1je...the fan speed is at 89-90% almost all the time even though I practically don't do nothing on it ... I don't have any games running or programs which require big system requirements.

The temperature of the core is between 42-45 degrees. Can the problem come from the last BIOS version 2.10 ? I tried to install a previous version of bios 1.80 but it won't let me to install it because it's older than the one I already have.

Answer:Re: Satellite L650-116 - fan speed at 90% constantly

how cand i downgrade bios to 1.80 version ?

Answer:How to test USB speed on Satellite Pro C870?

You could use some freeware tools like
- H2testw
- Drive Speed Test 3.2
I used the H2testw for SD card check and USB memory stick test and I was satisfied.

I bought a Satellite L850 a week ago.
The fan works fine initially, when I'm playing video games it goes up to high speeds, which is normal.
The problem is that it remains at that speed even when I turn off a game.

For example, my present CPU temperature is 45C and the fan is at 100%. System Idle Process is at 2,3%.
I've updated the BIOS to version 1.60

Restarting doesn't help, the fan doesn't slow down at all.
Only when I turn the laptop off and on again will it start behaving normally, until I turn a video game on again.

I would really appreciate any help.

Answer:Satellite L850 - Fan speed remains at 100%

>Only when I turn the laptop off and on again will it start behaving normally, until I turn a video game on again.

Possibly the one of the game processes sticks in the system background and stresses the CPU a lot.
This would cause the high cooling module performance even if the temperature is low.
You can check this in task manager what system stresses the CPU and could disable / close this manually?

Am I right that the fan speed is normal without starting the game?

I have recently purchased an A300 1F0 and everything runs perfectly except the starting up.
It takes +/- 2 min 30 to reach the login screen.

is there anyone with the same problem?
Or does anyone know how to resolve this?

Answer:Start up speed at Satellite A300-1F0

At first I must say that this is not ?problem?. I really don?t understand why people define everything what they don?t like as a problem. Call it ?. situation or maybe issue. But it is definitely not the problem.

So, on this forum you can find a lot of discussion about this ?issue? and to find it you should use advanced search option. To save your time I have one for you

Read it carefully and please post your comment to this.

I have L10-117 with celeron M 370, my fan works for about 2 minutes and stop after 2-5 minutes it starts again at full speed. It runs only at full speed (makes a lot of noise) or stops, I notice that my friends toshiba satellite fan (also with celeronM) runs at different speed, like laptops with centrino.

Is this problem with my laptop or maybe it is normall for celeron M370. Is there any software for power management form satellite with celeronM??

Answer:Satellite L10-117: fan stops and run only with full speed

Hi Darek

Many Toshiba units have preinstalled Toshiba power saver tool and there is possible to make different settings for CPU activity and for cooling method as well. Unfortunately your unit is preinstalled without this Toshiba designed utility.

Which Satellite notebook has your friend?
Check if he can change cooling method settings in Power saver.

please any body know how to control fan speed its always 69% and make bad noise and the cpu usage is 3% no at high processing i try advanced power settings but still runing at high speed

Answer:How to control fan speed on Satellite A660-11M?

In advanced power settings go to ?Toshiba power saver? > Cooling method. Set it there to minimum level. Change for a second power plan, go back to your power plan and the fan should be much quieter.

I have done this on my Satellite A660.
Before changing it ?Toshiba PC health monitor? showed CPU temperature 41% and fan speed was at 67%. After changing cooling method fan speed goes to 0%.
