Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

Question: Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

Hello everybody,
the Toshiba Sat C70D-B-317 (PSCLEE01L009FR) is on it's way and I don't have it for the moment but I would like to know if there is a way to add some Ram to this machine without opening everything?
Also, is it possible to change the HD in the future in the same conditions?

sorry, but it's my first PC laptop and as a Mac user I'm completely lost with all these models and different serial numbers.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

Preferred Solution: Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

1. yes you can upgrade your RAM, This laptop has 2 slots with one 4GB standard so if you would you can put one more 4GB. With 2x4 you have Dual-channel and that works much faster than single

I don't know if your HDD can e upgraded. When it's not possible you can always buy a external HDD

I hope i helped you

I want to upgrade RAM with additional 4 GB but at the bottom of the notebook there is no RAM cover so I don't have access to the RAM slots.
I don't want to cancel valid warranty so I don't want to open it alone.
What should I do ???

After a few seconds I get a message that 'Installation of Windows 10 Upgrade can't edit/adjust the partition reserved for the system'
It then starts deleting the installation-files, and exits......
Anyone any idea how to solve this, and make the upgrade work ???

Solved It myself, the problem was that the reserved partition for the system was only 100 MB !!!
Extended the size to 350 MB (as it should be !!!)

Hello,
Just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as far as I know until know), except boot from DVD. I disabled in the bios the Secure Boot and changed the boot order to DVD first, then USB and then HDD. The DVD drive starts, but then it skips to the HDD and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so that is not the problem.
I would like to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Anyone solved this problem already?

Answer:Satellite C70D - How to boot from DVD

Update: changing from UEFI to CMS in the BIOS Advanced tab makes it possible to boot from DVD, but Windows won't boot anymore.... Is there any possibility to boot from DVDE and still be able to start Windows as well?

Good evening,

I'm sorry to disturb,
but I find myself in a situation to which I find no solution,
that's why I come here asking for some help.

A friend has just purchased the following laptop:
- Satellite C70D-B-307

but the worry is that apparently it is impossible to have access to the HDD recovery to execute the factory restoration.
I try all possible solutions that I find on the web and none of it works.

what to do ?

does Toshiba sell the recovery DVDs that will restore the computer to its factory state?

Thank you very much .

I have a C70D-A-107 and want to speed up this notebook. Already placed 4gb extra memory so the notebook has now 8gb internal. I doubt whether it is usefull to put in 2x8gb. I think the processor is just to slow. It has a AMD E1-2100 inside. Is it possible to put in another (faster) processor?

Answer:Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

The Satellite C70D-A-107 was equipped with an AMD Essentials E1-2100 Accelerated CPU (1,00 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache)
It’s not the fastest CPU therefore the notebook performance isn’t the best…

But CPU upgrade isn’t officially supported by notebook manufacturer... therefore I don’t think that you will be able to upgrade the CPU…

I read about successful Intel CPU upgrades but did not meet anyone who was able to perform an upgrade with an AMD CPU

I'm looking for a new display for my Toshiba Satellite C70D-A-11K!

Please help!

Answer:Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

Hi

The Satellite C70D-A-11K was equipped with the 17.3" LED color LCD panel with the supporting max resolution of 1600 x 900 px
You should be able to order such display panel from local Toshiba authorized service provider or you could check some 3rd part online dealers who provide compatible notebook parts…

As I mention above: you should look for the 17.3" panels.

Answer:Need some drivers for my Satellite C70D-B-10U

According notebook specification your machine was delivered with preinstalled Win8.1 64BIT ML.
Original preinstalled version is perfectly configured with all necessary drivers.

The question is: what are you doing with your machine?
Do you try to use some older Windows version?

My wive purchase this computer coupple of months ago. It was from the beginning ferry slow on windows 8
The wurst laptop we ever had. We feel robbed of our money.

2 months ago we started with Ubuntu. It Still slow. IS there anybody with the same problems?

Greetings

Marco

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

Hi Marco

I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm what you wrote but fact is that almost all new notebooks are pretty slow at the beginning. Many applications are set to start with Windows and this, of course, slows down boot time.
Windows updates are also set to automatic so in the background the machine will download and install many updates so this will slow down your machine rapidly.

In my opinion you should install original OS that you got with this machine and optimize it a bit.
Remove all useless stuff, change start-up option and disable automatic Windows updates.
In the past I have noticed that original preinstalled antivirus is also responsible for notebook?s performance so I don't use original preinstalled application but my own version of Avir Antivir and it runs perfectly.

Check all these options and I hope your machine will run much better than before.

So I bought this laptop a few months ago.
For the past few weeks the Laptop stopped playing sound.
I watched a stream in Chrome.

So actually I should be able to see the sound playing in the mixer.
But I wasn't able to play any sound or get any deflection in the mixer.

Then I installed Speccy and as this administration window popped up a sound was played and it worked.

I have no idea why the sound stopped working and why it started again.
Is someone able to help me?

I am using Windows 8.1

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D - no sound, random

The main thing is that you have sound again. It is not easy to say what was wrong there.
Have you installed some updates or anything else that can be responsible for this sound issue?

My girlfriend bought me a new Toshiba laptop C70D-B-10U (my second Toshiba), it is a good laptop apart from the speakers they are terrible. I didn't want my first post to be a complaint but, Toshiba cut corners when it put the speakers in this series of laptops.

Or have I not set them right has anyone else had this problem, any ideas or solutions thank you.

Answer:Bad Speakers on Satellite C70D-B-10UM

I think your notebook has only small stereo speakers and the sound is not the best. I have Satellite S50-B with Harman/kardon speakers and sound is really good.

You can try to change sound options but if you want to have better sound I’m afraid you need external speakers, Maybe BT speakers.

Hello,

I picked up a brand new c70d-b-10u today from a well known retailer.
I turned it on, set the language, gave a computer name, hooked up to a wi fi and then it asked for Other User Password!

I never entered a password to start with so why is it asking for one?

I cannot get to the shop again until next week and urgently need to get up and running.

Any ideas greatly received.

Answer:Brand new Satellite C70D-B-10U wants a password?

Try to recover the notebook once again using the HDD recovery option.
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm

The recovery procedure would reset the notebook back to factory settings… usually after that no passwords should be set…

Hi There,

I have had a Satellite C70D for about 18 months now, but have not used it in the past year as I have been disputing with customer services about the windows licence for the machine as I lost it when I formatted the original hard drive before installing an SSD and they wouldnt send me a copy of it. I have now bitten the bullet and bought a windows 10 licence again. However since building the machine a few days ago, I have been having a couple of issues and as it is now out of warranty, I cannot contact customer support (Who I found unhelpful even when it was in warranty!)

The first issue is when I boot up the machine, occasionally the keyboard will not work, I cannot type the BitLocker pin and I have to remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this then fixes the issue for a few reboots before it goes again.

The second is that occasionally it will boot up with a red x next to the WiFi symbol, but it detects the WiFi card, usually a reboot fixes this but not always. I have reseated the card and still no avail.

Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing this? The BIOS is up-to-date as are all of the drivers.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi all,

My grandmother recently bought this Toshiba, mostly i recommend people a Toshiba but this is going to far.

I wasn't aware that she bought a laptop untill she called me and said she needs help because she never worked with such a slow computer as this Toshiba.

So my question is

How much logic does Toshiba has? I mean putting 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM ( ok nice for a casual laptop ) doesn't quite fit with a >>1GHz<< processor. for the rest the specs aren't terrible.

Can somebody explain me why this laptop has a 1GHz processor with 6GB of RAM. this doensn't makes sence at all

Hi All,

I have an Satellite C70D-A-11D ... when I use once the FN Key to do a Print Screen or use the Screen-Zoom on the Space Key...

I am not able to use the Keynumbers 1 to 4 neither the space Key to enter a space between two words...it always change between the bigger screen solution or the normal solution...

I only can change the FN Key again after change the settings in Display settings and after a reboot...
So I cant use FN without a reset with the F1 to F12 Key use and a reboot...

Normaly the FN Key works only if it is pressed...if not the normal Function of the Keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?

What to do?

Kind regards
J?rgen

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D Function Key deactivate after use

First of all you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)

This function can be changed in BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration

Check this option.

I have 2 issues with my new Satellite C70D-B-32U.
When I put it in sleep mode, it does. But after about 5 minutes, it goes automatically to hibernate. This I don't want. And I don't want to disable hibernate, because I do use it when the laptop is not in use for longer periods. The power settings in control panel do not reflect this behaviour. In the settings, I specified that the laptop should never go to hibernate. Hybrid state is disabled.

And secondly, more importantly. Whenever it goes to hibernate, I can only wake it up with the power button. Not with the (internal) keyboard, not with the usb mouse. I would like an option to wake it from hibernate by pressing any key on the keyboard. In bios power on keyboard is set to on. Is there anything else I can change to have this available?
Actually if issue 1 is solved and the laptop stays in sleep mode, this issue is also solved since from sleep I can wake on a mouseclick which is also fine.

The OS is windows 8.1

I have a Satellite C70D-A-114...

i hardly used it because it was slow

so i wanted to sell it

first i wanted to set it back to factory settings

doing that, in that process i seem to have deleted all files

so now i get message no bootable disc etc.

Tried everything, there is simply no recovery file

So where can i find such a file for free? It's just not normal that it is not on the site.

Answer:Need recovery files for my Satellite C70D-A-114

All you can find for free are all drivers, tools and utilities. Original recovery image (software package) is not for free and if you need it you must order recovery disc directly by Toshiba.

You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

By the way: in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can create recovery installation disc. I’m wondering you didn’t make it in the past.

Answer:Can I replace the HDD in my Satellite C70D-B -00P model with an SSD?

Generally speaking yes, you can do this but problem is that your notebook model doesn't have HDD cover at the bottom side.
To have full access to the HDD the bottom cover must be removed completely but it should be done by authorized service only.

Of course you can try to do it alone but I?m afraid you may lose the warranty.
If possible contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask for help.

To be honest I’ve never heard about such touchpad behaviour.
Have you tested all touchpad settings?
If there is option to set all of them on default settings please do this and test functionality again.

Anyway, best hardware test is to reinstall operating system and check touchpad functionality with “factory settings”.

Hi all,

excuse the new thread but I haven't found any answers anywhere online, just speculation and it's for different models.

So I have a C70D-B-10U, running windows 7 64bit pro. When I formatted it and updated everything, it just kept crashing when trying to play back videos on Windows Media Player. I cleaned the inside and replaced thermal paste, updated to even newer drivers, and started using VLC as my default media player. It rarely crashed BUT it always does when I try to start playing games (nothing heavy - League of Legends). Laptop seems to be doing well with memory tests, no faults detected.

I've read that this could be caused by:
Faulty GPUFaulty BatteryFaulty PSUBad Capacitors on the MOBO

Has anyone had any similar experience? I've reinstalled Windows and it's the same story. If it's a motherboard issue, I guess it would be better to just get a new one?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite C70D-A: game lags due to graphic chip?

Hi

Well, I?m wondering why you purchased a unit with an internal (part of CPU) graphic chip if you want use the notebook for gaming?

The notebook supports the AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics which is part of AMD Quad-Core A6-5200 CPU.
Such GPU is similar to Intel HD GPU which is also part of Intel CPUs.

Such internal graphic cards are not really designed for gaming? of course you would be able to run and to play a game but don?t expect too much?

Hi there,

I was bought the above model of laptop for an early Christmas present which usually sits down in the living room, my old Satellite Pro sat down there with no issues however with this device the wireless signal is very low and I appear to be having it sitting right next to the wireless router (which is located upstairs in my sons bedroom), I wondered if there's any steps I could take to improve the signal?

It baffles me how a new system has such a poor wireless signal when my old Satellite Pro which was 6 years old had no wireless issues whatsoever.

My other issue is from the moment I switched the laptop on (yesterday when it was delivered) the updates on Windows Update are slow or don't start at all, is this an issue or just normal?

I'd appreciate any help or input at all, thank you.

Hi,

I have a toshiba C70D-B-306 (psclee) laptop and I reinstalled windows 8.1 from a seperate DVD because i exchange the default harddrive for a fast ssd disk.

Everything works but in my device manager I have 2 unknown devices listed (with exclamation mark), as far as I know I downloaded all available drivers from toshiba support website for this laptop and installed them but the 2 unknown devices simply will not disappear.

Can someone tell me which driver I exactly need for these 2 devices?

The 2 devices are:
ACPI\ASD0001\2&DABA3FF&1
and
ACPI\SMB0001\4&FE73487&0

As mentioned, i allready downloaded all drivers for this laptop and installed them, windows is ofcourse up-to-date. Also I let windows search for drivers on the Internet and on the whole drive, but no drivers where found.

Who can give me the golden tip?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-306 - 2 unknown devices in device list

There is a good method in order to find out what drivers are missing.
First of all you should check the DEV (device) and VEN (vendor) IDs

Here is an short instruction how to find this details:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD0302U00000R01.htm

Knowing the device and vendor ID, it should not be a big deal to get the right drivers.

At the other hand you should install also additional Toshiba software (Toshiba System Driver) released for Win 8.1
Please note also that there are two Win 8.1 driver areas: ?Win 8.1 update? and ?Win 8.1 32bit/64bit? categories
In case you would not find all drivers within the Win 8.1 update check also the Win 8.1 32bit/64bit categories.

If optical disc drive is installed properly maybe is reading lens dirty. Try to clean it up.

Other way, if your ODD can read CDs but not DVDs it can also be hardware malfunction. The reading lens cannot be calibrated properly and cannot find the right position to read DVD media.

In such case ODD must be exchanged.

Try to clean lens up and check if the problem persists. If yes contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Hello,

I have buy a Satellite C70D-A-11T and pass it on Windows 7 64 bits Home Premium.
I install all the drivers and I haven't any problems.

When I want to connect it to my TV for first time, I discover there is no sound on the TV.
I try to go on the speaker (near the clock of windows), right click, sound, first tab (I think it is "Playback" in english... I have a french Windows) and my device (TV) doesn't appear.

I come back on Toshiba Support website to download the last driver "HDMI Audio driver" for my laptop, I connect the cable, and it appear in the sound properties. I select it as my default device and the sound come right from my TV.

Great !

But when I restart my laptop (with or without the HDMI cable), the TV disappear from the list in the sound properties, the only one solution to recover the sound is to reinstall the HDMI Audio Driver.
If I start the driver installation with the "advanced" option, I have the list of drivers to install and I see all drivers are already installed, but the HDMI Audio Driver will be upgraded... I install it and it work until the next restart.

Could you explain me why the version of the driver don't stay on the system, and how to make it work without reinstall it everyday ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi there

Pretty much every time I turn on my laptop I am being asked to enter in the date, it defaults to 1.1.2015. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can overcome this issue? Just to be clear this happens right at the point of turning the computer, i.e. before Windows even starts to load up. It must be date/time settings of the device.

Thanks for your help in advance

Would be grateful for any advice to remove the back panel.

I've removed battery, ~16 screws + 1 tiny screw at the optical drive and whilst it does 'unclick' everywhere else, there seems to be something stopping the panel being removed just above the battery compartment and don't want to force it.

Even our IT guys at work cannot work it out.

PLEASE HELP.....my new laptop is very slow so have purchased RAM but can't access the back.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-30D: How to access back panel after ~16 screws removed

At first I must say that you should not remove bottom cover alone because it will cancel valid warranty. If there is no RAM cover, RAM should be exchanged or upgraded by authorized personal only.

I know every of us think it is easy to do and want to do this alone.
What I know is follow:
2 screws in the middle are fixing the keyboard. What must be removed are 14 screws and small flat screw at the optical drive. That’s all. There is no other hidden screw.

Of course there are also small plastic holders and bottom cover must be removed very gently.

I've only noticed today that when I turn up my laptop's volume up to about 28 (even with headphones in), there's this high pitch noise that comes from the speakers. And I'm sure it's the speakers and not anything else.
But the sound is sort of that real ear-killing noise so I can't listen to it for long. It even sometimes sounds like thousands of crickets - a complete nightmare

But with my volume at any level below 28 I can listen to whatever through headphones without the sound bothering me.

Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I do know a thing or two about computers but nothing about anything extremely technical and I'm not sure if I want to take it apart, unless I really have to.

If you could help me it would be appreciated!

I got a wireless mouse and so, using F5 disabled the touchpad. Now I can't get it to work again. I was told, by the support robot/person here, to turn the laptop off and then to remove the battery and AC adapter before pressing and holding the power button on the laptop for 10 seconds. Then I should replace the AC adapter, leaving the battery out, before turning the machine on and then immediately start tapping the F2 key. This will take me into BIOS. Once there and the BIOS menu has loaded, tap the F9 key and then press Enter. This will reset BIOS to the default settings. To exit the BIOS, tap the F10 key and then press Enter. This will restart the laptop.

The trouble is I cannot do any of this as the battery is does not seem to be removable, by the customer at least, on this product.
Had I been able to achieve this and found the cure not to have happened that I should reinstall the touchpad driver.

As I cannot do what is advised, in correct sequence, I am at a loss as to just what I should do. HELP PLEASE.

Answer:Touchpad on Satelite C70D-12U not working

You dont need to remove the battery, you can do a hard reset by holding down the power button for 20 seconds.

Does the touchpad work in the BIOS?
If no, there may be a hardware problem.
If yes, uninstall the touchpad driver in Control Panel, then let Windows Update install the new driver.

I have two C70D's. Both died within weeks of each other, and went back for repair with RepairTech, under warranty.

Both machines failed to boot, with an error code(?) of three flashes of the power button.

One machine came back within a week, fully working.

The other took three weeks, came back with a change of motherboard (they say). I unpacked it, and it was still not booting, still flashing three times on the power button.

I phoned repairtech, immediately, sent it back, the next day.

Today it came home, again, I opened it...it wont boot, and does the same three flashes on the power light.

Back on the phone. They've booked it in again, saying maybe it's a peripheral. The only peripheral is the power adaptor. I have two. It doesn't work with either.

I believe the problem is battery related, but it's an internal battery so I can't open it without voiding the warranty.

Has anyone else had problems with RepairTech? Does anyone know if this is a battery problem?

Hi everyone.

I have the Toshiba Upgrade Disc for Windows 7 Home Premium as I am currently running Vista Home Premium 64bit.

I do choose the 64bit upgrade version path with the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant.
However, I get knocked out with the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant dialogue box saying "Your system is not applicable to upgrade. You can refer Windows 7 upgrade information http://www.csdsupport.toshiba.com/tais/csd/support/windows7upgrade/" after it checks out the first 4 criteria as being correct.

Any help would be appreciated.

I did buy my notebook from the USA but live in Australia. However, I was able to order the Windows 7 upgrade disk from Australia when I arranged for my model notebook to be added to the eligible upgrades on the Website.

For general information, I was able to get a hold of a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit full version disk. From this, I chose Windows 7 Home Premium as the version I purchased.
I used my Product Key from my Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Disc and chose the upgrade version.

There were 3 applications from memory which were incompatible with Windows 7 so I uninstalled them and used the Toshiba Windows 7 Driver updates to install what I could. It all works fine and MS update naturally recognises the key as genuine.

However, all this defeats the purpose of why I can't upgrade from the upgrade disc.

Thanks.

Hi there, I need some advice on my laptop upgrade. My laptop is a:

Toshiba Satellite P300D - 21K
Model No: PSPD0E - 00H003EN

I'm thinking of upgrading to 64 bit windows (lucky students can do this for 30!) to help speed up my laptop. I use some CAD applications so 64 bit should help with the speed of these apps. Question:

1) Is there any reasons anyone would advise me to not upgrade to 64 bit with my laptop?
2) I will need to upgrade my RAM to at least 4 gig for 64 Bit. I currently have 3 gig, so I guess I need to replace my 1 gig stick with a 2 gig stick? Or can I put a 4 gig stick in with my existing 2 gig stick?
3) Will upgrading my ram, and operating system void my warrenty?

Answer:Satellite P300D-21K: Windows 7 64bit Upgrade & RAM Upgrade Advice

hi rossbardon,

1. make sure that your application can use the features of a 64bit system otherwise there will be no performace boost in that application. except the expanded memory...
2. i would use always the same make and modell of ram because mixing is only good when drinking cocktails...
so 2x 2gb ram from a known manufacturer should be a good choice. why not 2x 4gb when using win7 with 64bit?
3. as far as i know you are allowed to change your ram without loosing your warranty... i think the warranty is hardware related.... to make sure if you allowed ask a servicepartner next to you.
you will have no support related to the win7 installation and software related issues.

hey upgrade to win7! due to this price and no danger (it's software) ahead i would do it.
make sure that the needed drivers are at hand before installing!

good luck and pls report what you have done.

We have a Satellite Pro A300-2C4 (purchased 23/11/09) which came with Vista Business 32Bit installed but was downgraded (using disk provided) to Windows XP because of business network requirements.

When Windows 7 became available I purchased the Windows 7 upgrade DVD that Toshiba were offering so that if the Business decided to upgrade to the new operating system we could do so on this laptop.

This is what I have recently tried to do to discover it cannot be done as the DVD is for Win Vista Bus to Win 7 Pro upgrade. What is the best way to do the upgrade without having to purchase another upgrade disk. I do have a set of Recovery Discs for another Toshiba SatellitePro A300-2C4 which was purchased about 2 months before this one; these were created using the Toshiba Recovery software before any changes were made on the laprop. Would I be able to recover the system to its Windows Vista state using these discs and then use the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade DVD to do the upgarde?

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly received.

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro A300-2C4 'Windows 7 Professional Upgrade DVD' to upgrade

Hi TKG

Upgrading from WinXP to Win7 is not supported by Toshiba nor by Microsoft.
The only possible way to upgrade (go from 1 installation with some data to Win7 and keeping your settings and data) is from WinVista SP1 or later.

So regardless of how You look at it, You need to get XP out and either begin with WinVista factory installation + any 1 million updates that were released after this, OR
you can boot up from the Win7 media directly and install clean.
The second method saves a lot of time BUT have some negative side effects - namely not all drivers and utilities will be available in the final system if installed clean.
Some packages from WinVista works well in Win7 and are for that reason expected to be in the system during the update.
Hence, if You do a clean install, they will be missing.

However, they might not cause any trouble for You if they are not there, but that is not known until You're there and can see what You are missing.
Basic functionality should be expected though (WLAN, LAN, Sound, video....so on)

So, think about what You want to do and get busy with either recovering your unit with the WinVista set, updating, and then running the Toshiba Upgrade DVD, Win 7 upgrade and finally the Toshiba upgrade DVD again, OR just install Win7 clean + adding as much as possible / needed from the Toshiba Upgrade DVD.

Good luck!

Hello together !

For your information:

Did a memory upgrade today at 2 Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 (1,9 GH, 256 MB DDR-RAM originally), both up to 1 GB, all fine and not problems.

Just wanted to end rumours about "only 512 MB all together" or even less.

If searching for it, remember to think of the specifications:

DDR-266 (PC2100)
DDR-SDRAM, SO-DIMM
200 PIN
CL 2.5

concerning RAM frequency, building form etc.

Greetings

This upgrade with SSD is not supported by Toshiba so all you do is on your risk. Check please this forum. If I?m remembering well some people have already posted own experiences.
I think in most cases they have ordered such HDD/SSD caddy but disc drive was not recognized at all.

In my opinion you should not do such upgrade.

RAM
According notebook specification you can upgrade RAM up to 16 GB and at the bottom side under memory cover you should find two memory slots. How to upgrade RAM is described in user?s manuals. Check please page 72.

Compatible RAM modules for your notebook model are:
4GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M4G
8GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M8G

Has anyone managed to upgrade the CPU on one of these yet??? Ive already maxed out the memory, but its still a bit slow if you know what I mean...:P

Any feedback or suggestions greatfully recieved.

Answer:CPU Upgrade on Satellite L30-134

i mate,

unfortunately no one here would be able to give you really good information which could be useful for you. Since you?re a Pro you should check e.g. this site: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/

The BIOS cannot be modified but if the chipset is able you can try it. The socket is always the same so the package should fit in the hole ;)
But I recommend you NOT to modify the cooling system because it?s aligned to work with the whole system together. The system would perhaps run a little bit "non-cooler" and wouldn?t be quiet as before but it should work.

So, how you see on your own. I am with you but I cannot give you proper information since I am just modding desktops (and already upgraded a notebook with some new CPU so I know something about it and I can just tell you: Don?t ask here. Just read the topics and you will see why :) )

Good luck and Greets

Hi!

I want to replace CPU in this notebook. I'm confused because i can't find any informations which CPUs are supported by BIOS.
I tried: T5500 (SL9U4), T5600 (SL9SG), T7200 (SL9SL), T7300 (SLA3P), T2600 (SL8VN), T2400 (SL8VQ). After installing one of these processors, system didn't boot up.
Boot fail with Core 2 Duo isn't suprise. Merom has another pinout than Yonah. :)
Why Jonah didn't start up ?
Jonah Core Duos has the same pinout, power requirements like Celeron Yonahs.
Does BIOS have any "CPU lock" to restrict CPU replacement by user ?
Does anyone know why Jonah Core Duo can't work?

Answer:Satellite L30-134: CPU Upgrade

Hi there,

the problem is that, no matter what CPU you install which is listed in your posting, it won?t work. The machine you own has an ATI RC410 chipset which can only handle the following CPU?s:

Pentium M
Celeron M (dothan)

Which means that this chipset can only handle CPU?s with dothan core and earlier (P4, P4 Xtreme, etc.)

And my personal opinion regarding a CPU exchange in a notebook:

If you got the appropriate tools to update the BIOS/DMI/microprocessor-code on the machine (where the tools are only available for Tosh techies) then you must know which maximum TDP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_Design_Power) the machines cooling system can handle.
And thats also an information which is only available for Tosh techies.

Believe me, I tried several times to upgrade some of my mobile machines and every time it was linked with many problems so I can disadvise everyone from my own experience to upgrade the CPU.

Answer:Satellite Pro M70-235 - Is it possible to upgrade the CPU?

Hi

Theoretically it?s possible to exchange the CPU on a notebook but nobody will be able to say if the notebook runs properly with the new CPU or not.

You should not forget that the BIOS and mainboard is designed for the preinstalled CPU and it?s not tested with another CPU. Normally a newer or faster CPU produces more heat and I don?t know if the cooling assembly on your notebook is enough for this.

If you have still warranty on your notebook you will lose it because Toshiba doesn?t support CPU upgrading:

Hi all,

I have a Satellite M70 that is suffering.
It is all rather slow and despite transferring my music collection amongst other large programs to an external HDD, my laptop frequently slows down and crashes much to my annoyance.

I regularly de-frag my HD on a twice weekly basis which helps a little bit, and I clear out temporary files, the recycle bin as well at the end of each month, but nothing seems to noticeably speed it up. I run Spyware Doctor, but it doesn't reveal anything that could account for such a slow performance!

Could anyone advise me of any further action to take?
I am considering upgrading the RAM to try and speed it up, and would be grateful for any advice in this regard amongst other suggestions.

Kind Regards,

What i wonder is that can i plug the hard drives into the notebook using a specially designed adapter or any other kit so that i can transfer the data stored in them into a DVD-R?
Thanks.

Answer:Satellite A 40, Hdd upgrade

If you remove the drives you can put them in a case that will connect via USB to your notebook.
Or...you could just share your drives over the network.

Does anyone know the available upgrades for changing the standard 60GB hard drive in the Satellite Pro M70 (PSM76E-00100KEN)with something larger.

The Toshiba Options site shows only external drives available as options, but I notice that newer models in the same family have between 80 and 100GB drives, so wondered if any of those would fit, for instance:

PSM75E-00P004EN uses a 100GB drive
PSM76E-00500KEN uses an 80GB drive

Alternatively any other drives available from other sources that would fit - what spec should I look for, speed, fitting size, connections etc. and BIOS compatability

All info appreciated, surprising how quick the disk is filling up, and I like to keep it internally although I also use a 250GB external drive for home storage and backups etc.

Thanks
Steve

Answer:HDD upgrade for Satellite Pro M70

Hi

The Satellite Pro M70 series is very large but I think every m70 should support a HDD with serial-ATA interface.
Some units were delivered with a 80GB HDD. I think a 100GB HDD should also works.

I found some HDD properties:
Drive rotation: 5400rpm
Buffer Size: 8MB
Number of disks: 2
Number of heads: 4

Answer:Re: Satellite M70-405 - Can I upgrade it?

Hello!

You can upgrade the RAM. This is no problem and would be improving the performance.
This model supports up to 2GB RAM and therefore you need DDR2-533 RAM (SO-DIMM 200pin).
The part number for 1GB is PA3411U-1M1G.

The graphic chip can not be upgraded because it?s soldered on the mainboard.
The CPU is upgradable but this is not supported by Toshiba. Check this document for the CPU upgrade:

Answer:Re: RAM upgrade on Satellite M60-139

Hi

This is really old machine so any kind of info about OS or HDD upgrade can be very useful.
So, your old machine can be upgraded up to 2GB of RAM and compatible RAM modules that you can use are as follow:
DDR2-400/533 512MB (PA3412U-1M51)
DDR2-400/533 1GB (PA3411U-1M1G)

If possible post a bit about OS. I mean have you found some drivers and do you use some Toshiba specific tools and utilities.

Bye and good luck

I have purchased a second hand Pro A60 and would like to increase its memory. I have never done this so I need a little guidance. First the system tells me I have 2 x 250mb of RAM. I understand these are not removeable but I could add a further 1gb to give me the max of 1.5gb.

I think the memory slots are in B4 but when I open it I cannot see an obvious empty slot. I assume what I can see are one of the 250mb but nothing else.

All the offers of extra RAM state installing is simple but a spare slot is not obvious.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite Pro A60 - I want to upgrade the RAM

Hello

The Satellite Pro A60 can be upgraded to 1GB RAM as far as I know.
It has already 256MB or 512MB integrated and you can use maximal 1280 or 1536MB of RAM.

For the upgrade you need PC2700 DDR1 RAM.
It?s pretty easy: On the bottom side of the notebook is a cover that is secured with one screw. Remove it and then you can upgrade the RAM.

Is it possible to upgrade my AMD E1-1200 1.4ghtz processor to anything faster than that,
I want to be able to play FIFA14 apparently it drags on the current processor.

My ram is 6GB and I believe it is enough.

Answer:Is it possible to upgrade CPU on my Satellite C

Generally such upgrade is not supported by any notebook manufacturer.

But I read in some threads that some people were able to upgrade the Intel CPUs in own notebooks. But your notebook (what notebook model is it exactly???) seems to be equipped with AMD CPU and I guess the chipset is from AMD too.
In such case only AMD CPU would be compatible with the AMD chipset.

However, even if the AMD chipset would support another CPU, I guess you would get some problems with the BIOS. In many cases the BIOS compatibility could be the main reason why an CPU upgrade would not work.

Hello!

Does anybody know: Is it possible to upgrade the CPU at the Satellite M70-354?

Thanks,
Bastian

Answer:Is it possible to upgrade the CPU on Satellite M70-354

Hi

Generally it?s not possible to upgrade the CPU.
Of course some people here have managed to upgrade the CPU but following some functions and devices like cooling module don?t work.

I would not recommend upgrading the CPU. Nobody knows if it will run properly.
Some CPUs are soldered on the board and there is no possibility to remove it.

Therefore don?t do it if you are not 100% sure that it will work!

HI

I am new to the forum, I purchased a satellite l10 two years ago and was looking at upgrading my hard drive, looking at toshiba accessories It recommends I purchase an external hd, but this just means extra items to carry, can anyone advise or help me

Answer:I want to upgrade the HDD on Satellite L10

Hi

Of course you can upgrade the HDD.
If you want to upgrade the HDD you have buy one which is compatible and supported by BIOS.
Not every HDD size is supported by BIOS. There is a limitation and bigger HDDs could be not recognized.
The Sat L10 supports an enhanced IDE (ATA-6) interface and some units were delivered with the 40GB HDD.

I think a 60GB HDD should be compatible. Maybe also a 80GB HDD but I?m not 100% sure about this HDD size.

If you want you can test it.

Hi

I got a Toshiba Satelite M50-105 Notebook with 512MB Memory and want to upgrade to 1GB.

What type do i need?

Answer:Satellite M50-105: I want to upgrade RAM to 1GB

Hi

You can upgrade the notebooks memory to max 2GB.
One memory slot can handle 1GB module.
If you want to upgrade the memory to 1GB you can use either 2 x 512MB modules or one 1GB module.

You should use PC2700 DDR-RAM memory and as far as I know Toshiba recommend these parts:
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-2M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-2M1G)

Answer:CPU Upgrade on Satellite L20

Hi

As far as I know it is not possible and, in my opinion it is completely sinless. The upgrade will probably cost the half of your notebook. I also think that L20 is not worth of it.

Hello,

I would like to add ( + 4Go) RAM memory to my Satellite C50-B-14F.

But there is no instruction on this matter in the user?s guide.
At present, there is a 4Go memory (The software Speecy says that there is a 4,00 Go Canal-Simple DDR3 @ 797 MHz (11-11-11-28) RAM inside my pc) , and I want to up to 8 Go.
Could you teach me how to choose it right?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Satellite C50-B-14F - RAM upgrade - How?

Due to specific notebook design user RAM upgrade is not supported and that is the reason why you didn’t find anything in user’s manuals document.
RAM slots are placed under the bottom cover and if you want to have full access to teh RAM modules you must remove bottom cover.
Problem is that if you do this on your own this will cancel your warranty so it should be dome by authorized service provider.

In my opinion you should contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help. I mean it is not so problematic and I think it cannot be so expensive.

Theoretical you can do this alone but you should think on valid warranty.

Hi,

I would like to upgrade my RAM memory from 512 MB to 2 GB. Having read through the threads it seems like the PC 2700 DDR SODIMM (PA 33135-2MIG) would match my notebook. Does anyone know where to buy it? could not find it on ebay and other notebook suppliers... Is it too old and out of trade already?

So, I've got a Toshiba MK8037GSX in a Toshiba L40 laptop.
I want to upgrade it to the Toshiba MK2552GSX hdd.

My question is if I will have any compatibility issues...
The older, MK8037GSX is ATA-7, while MK2552GSX, is ATA-8. Any problems with this?

Will I have to do any other thing besides taking out the old hdd and putting in the new one?
Will it interfere with the big cable that connects to the hdd, requiring me to change it?

Links to more specs on the hdds:

Answer:Satellite L40 - HDD Upgrade

Hi

No, you should not get any problems using the ATA-8 HDD.
The point is that SATA controller is down compatible.
Means you can use SATA I and SATA II HDDs without any big problems

> Will I have to do any other thing besides taking out the old hdd and putting in the new one?
No, after the HDD has been connected to the notebook, go to the BIOS and check if it?s was recognized properly. The new OS installation should not be a problem as well. The installation disk should format the HDD and you could install the OS.

Can someone help me with finding the right compatible intel processor for Satellite C50-B-15B.

Answer:CPU upgrade on Satellite C50-B-15B

Hello Simon

CPU upgrade is not supported and such upgrade is not recommended for many different reasons.
Every notebook model has adapted cooling system that offer proper and efficient ?protection?.
More powerful CPU means more heat and automatically more risk for the hardware.

Very useful document about that you can find here .

Could somebody advice me if it is worth while changing my 5400rpm 80gb hard drive for a 7200rpm 80-100gb drive? Would there be much to gain and would there be any pitfalls?

Thank you

Answer:HDD upgrade on Satellite Pro M70

Yes certainly you will experience an increase in speed. Two years ago I replaced my original Toshiba 40Gb hd by a 60 Gb Hitachi(IBM) 7.200rpm drive and obviously it was a lot quicker. Heath production is not remarkable much more, battery lifetime is almost the same.
