Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

Question: Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

I'm looking for a new display for my Toshiba Satellite C70D-A-11K!

Please help!

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

The Satellite C70D-A-11K was equipped with the 17.3" LED color LCD panel with the supporting max resolution of 1600 x 900 px
You should be able to order such display panel from local Toshiba authorized service provider or you could check some 3rd part online dealers who provide compatible notebook parts…

As I mention above: you should look for the 17.3" panels.

Hello everybody,
the Toshiba Sat C70D-B-317 (PSCLEE01L009FR) is on it's way and I don't have it for the moment but I would like to know if there is a way to add some Ram to this machine without opening everything?
Also, is it possible to change the HD in the future in the same conditions?

sorry, but it's my first PC laptop and as a Mac user I'm completely lost with all these models and different serial numbers.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

1. yes you can upgrade your RAM, This laptop has 2 slots with one 4GB standard so if you would you can put one more 4GB. With 2x4 you have Dual-channel and that works much faster than single

I don't know if your HDD can e upgraded. When it's not possible you can always buy a external HDD

I hope i helped you

Good evening,

I'm sorry to disturb,
but I find myself in a situation to which I find no solution,
that's why I come here asking for some help.

A friend has just purchased the following laptop:
- Satellite C70D-B-307

but the worry is that apparently it is impossible to have access to the HDD recovery to execute the factory restoration.
I try all possible solutions that I find on the web and none of it works.

what to do ?

does Toshiba sell the recovery DVDs that will restore the computer to its factory state?

Thank you very much .

I want to upgrade RAM with additional 4 GB but at the bottom of the notebook there is no RAM cover so I don't have access to the RAM slots.
I don't want to cancel valid warranty so I don't want to open it alone.
What should I do ???

My wive purchase this computer coupple of months ago. It was from the beginning ferry slow on windows 8
The wurst laptop we ever had. We feel robbed of our money.

2 months ago we started with Ubuntu. It Still slow. IS there anybody with the same problems?

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

Hi Marco

I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm what you wrote but fact is that almost all new notebooks are pretty slow at the beginning. Many applications are set to start with Windows and this, of course, slows down boot time.
Windows updates are also set to automatic so in the background the machine will download and install many updates so this will slow down your machine rapidly.

In my opinion you should install original OS that you got with this machine and optimize it a bit.
Remove all useless stuff, change start-up option and disable automatic Windows updates.
In the past I have noticed that original preinstalled antivirus is also responsible for notebook?s performance so I don't use original preinstalled application but my own version of Avir Antivir and it runs perfectly.

Check all these options and I hope your machine will run much better than before.

Just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as far as I know until know), except boot from DVD. I disabled in the bios the Secure Boot and changed the boot order to DVD first, then USB and then HDD. The DVD drive starts, but then it skips to the HDD and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so that is not the problem.
I would like to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Anyone solved this problem already?

Answer:Satellite C70D - How to boot from DVD

Update: changing from UEFI to CMS in the BIOS Advanced tab makes it possible to boot from DVD, but Windows won't boot anymore.... Is there any possibility to boot from DVDE and still be able to start Windows as well?

pci encryptions/decryption controller and unknown device.

Can someone help me out with it?

Answer:Need some drivers for my Satellite C70D-B-10U

According notebook specification your machine was delivered with preinstalled Win8.1 64BIT ML.
Original preinstalled version is perfectly configured with all necessary drivers.

The question is: what are you doing with your machine?
Do you try to use some older Windows version?

I have a C70D-A-107 and want to speed up this notebook. Already placed 4gb extra memory so the notebook has now 8gb internal. I doubt whether it is usefull to put in 2x8gb. I think the processor is just to slow. It has a AMD E1-2100 inside. Is it possible to put in another (faster) processor?

Answer:Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

The Satellite C70D-A-107 was equipped with an AMD Essentials E1-2100 Accelerated CPU (1,00 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache)
It’s not the fastest CPU therefore the notebook performance isn’t the best…

But CPU upgrade isn’t officially supported by notebook manufacturer... therefore I don’t think that you will be able to upgrade the CPU…

I read about successful Intel CPU upgrades but did not meet anyone who was able to perform an upgrade with an AMD CPU

Hi all,

My grandmother recently bought this Toshiba, mostly i recommend people a Toshiba but this is going to far.

I wasn't aware that she bought a laptop untill she called me and said she needs help because she never worked with such a slow computer as this Toshiba.

So my question is

How much logic does Toshiba has? I mean putting 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM ( ok nice for a casual laptop ) doesn't quite fit with a >>1GHz<< processor. for the rest the specs aren't terrible.

Can somebody explain me why this laptop has a 1GHz processor with 6GB of RAM. this doensn't makes sence at all

I've a angry grandmother xD with a crappy laptop so I builded quick a pc for her where so does her work on for now

So I bought this laptop a few months ago.
For the past few weeks the Laptop stopped playing sound.
I watched a stream in Chrome.

So actually I should be able to see the sound playing in the mixer.
But I wasn't able to play any sound or get any deflection in the mixer.

Then I installed Speccy and as this administration window popped up a sound was played and it worked.

I have no idea why the sound stopped working and why it started again.
Is someone able to help me?

I am using Windows 8.1

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D - no sound, random

The main thing is that you have sound again. It is not easy to say what was wrong there.
Have you installed some updates or anything else that can be responsible for this sound issue?

I have 2 issues with my new Satellite C70D-B-32U.
When I put it in sleep mode, it does. But after about 5 minutes, it goes automatically to hibernate. This I don't want. And I don't want to disable hibernate, because I do use it when the laptop is not in use for longer periods. The power settings in control panel do not reflect this behaviour. In the settings, I specified that the laptop should never go to hibernate. Hybrid state is disabled.

And secondly, more importantly. Whenever it goes to hibernate, I can only wake it up with the power button. Not with the (internal) keyboard, not with the usb mouse. I would like an option to wake it from hibernate by pressing any key on the keyboard. In bios power on keyboard is set to on. Is there anything else I can change to have this available?
Actually if issue 1 is solved and the laptop stays in sleep mode, this issue is also solved since from sleep I can wake on a mouseclick which is also fine.

The OS is windows 8.1

I have a Satellite C70D-A-114...

i hardly used it because it was slow

so i wanted to sell it

first i wanted to set it back to factory settings

doing that, in that process i seem to have deleted all files

so now i get message no bootable disc etc.

Tried everything, there is simply no recovery file

So where can i find such a file for free? It's just not normal that it is not on the site.

Answer:Need recovery files for my Satellite C70D-A-114

All you can find for free are all drivers, tools and utilities. Original recovery image (software package) is not for free and if you need it you must order recovery disc directly by Toshiba.

You can order it on

By the way: in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can create recovery installation disc. I’m wondering you didn’t make it in the past.

I picked up a brand new c70d-b-10u today from a well known retailer.
I turned it on, set the language, gave a computer name, hooked up to a wi fi and then it asked for Other User Password!

I never entered a password to start with so why is it asking for one?

I cannot get to the shop again until next week and urgently need to get up and running.

Any ideas greatly received.

Answer:Brand new Satellite C70D-B-10U wants a password?

Try to recover the notebook once again using the HDD recovery option.

The recovery procedure would reset the notebook back to factory settings… usually after that no passwords should be set…

Hi All,

I have an Satellite C70D-A-11D ... when I use once the FN Key to do a Print Screen or use the Screen-Zoom on the Space Key...

I am not able to use the Keynumbers 1 to 4 neither the space Key to enter a space between two always change between the bigger screen solution or the normal solution...

I only can change the FN Key again after change the settings in Display settings and after a reboot...
So I cant use FN without a reset with the F1 to F12 Key use and a reboot...

Normaly the FN Key works only if it is pressed...if not the normal Function of the Keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?

What to do?

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D Function Key deactivate after use

First of all you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)

This function can be changed in BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration

Check this option.

System starts but does not boot.

Referring to the manual (section 6, solutions of problems) I tried to hit [F12] after power on but nothing happened.
Same when hitting [F2].

My impression is that something failed on hard disk drive.

P.S. system has Win10 installed.

My girlfriend bought me a new Toshiba laptop C70D-B-10U (my second Toshiba), it is a good laptop apart from the speakers they are terrible. I didn't want my first post to be a complaint but, Toshiba cut corners when it put the speakers in this series of laptops.

Or have I not set them right has anyone else had this problem, any ideas or solutions thank you.

Answer:Bad Speakers on Satellite C70D-B-10UM

I think your notebook has only small stereo speakers and the sound is not the best. I have Satellite S50-B with Harman/kardon speakers and sound is really good.

You can try to change sound options but if you want to have better sound I’m afraid you need external speakers, Maybe BT speakers.

Answer:Can I replace the HDD in my Satellite C70D-B -00P model with an SSD?

Generally speaking yes, you can do this but problem is that your notebook model doesn't have HDD cover at the bottom side.
To have full access to the HDD the bottom cover must be removed completely but it should be done by authorized service only.

Of course you can try to do it alone but I?m afraid you may lose the warranty.
If possible contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask for help.

Hi There,

I have had a Satellite C70D for about 18 months now, but have not used it in the past year as I have been disputing with customer services about the windows licence for the machine as I lost it when I formatted the original hard drive before installing an SSD and they wouldnt send me a copy of it. I have now bitten the bullet and bought a windows 10 licence again. However since building the machine a few days ago, I have been having a couple of issues and as it is now out of warranty, I cannot contact customer support (Who I found unhelpful even when it was in warranty!)

The first issue is when I boot up the machine, occasionally the keyboard will not work, I cannot type the BitLocker pin and I have to remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this then fixes the issue for a few reboots before it goes again.

The second is that occasionally it will boot up with a red x next to the WiFi symbol, but it detects the WiFi card, usually a reboot fixes this but not always. I have reseated the card and still no avail.

Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing this? The BIOS is up-to-date as are all of the drivers.

Thanks in advance for your help

I am new to this forum and purchased a Satellite C70D yesterday.
I went thru set up, It asked me for my email and password.

I entered this and the next time I logged in there was my hotmail profile photo.
I entered my password - no problem. I changed the language from Spanish to English etc etc.

I switched it on this morning and got the Toshiba Logo - then it went to blank screen and there was a large data entry box asking me for a password. I tried the same one and I get another screen showing a red data entry box saying "VERIFY ERROR!! Please reenter to continue!!

Can anyone help me please. I am operating windows 8.1

Anyone a solution?

To be honest I’ve never heard about such touchpad behaviour.
Have you tested all touchpad settings?
If there is option to set all of them on default settings please do this and test functionality again.

Anyway, best hardware test is to reinstall operating system and check touchpad functionality with “factory settings”.

I have a toshiba C70D-B-306 (psclee) laptop and I reinstalled windows 8.1 from a seperate DVD because i exchange the default harddrive for a fast ssd disk.

Everything works but in my device manager I have 2 unknown devices listed (with exclamation mark), as far as I know I downloaded all available drivers from toshiba support website for this laptop and installed them but the 2 unknown devices simply will not disappear.

Can someone tell me which driver I exactly need for these 2 devices?

The 2 devices are:

As mentioned, i allready downloaded all drivers for this laptop and installed them, windows is ofcourse up-to-date. Also I let windows search for drivers on the Internet and on the whole drive, but no drivers where found.

Who can give me the golden tip?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-306 - 2 unknown devices in device list

There is a good method in order to find out what drivers are missing.
First of all you should check the DEV (device) and VEN (vendor) IDs

Here is an short instruction how to find this details:

Knowing the device and vendor ID, it should not be a big deal to get the right drivers.

At the other hand you should install also additional Toshiba software (Toshiba System Driver) released for Win 8.1
Please note also that there are two Win 8.1 driver areas: ?Win 8.1 update? and ?Win 8.1 32bit/64bit? categories
In case you would not find all drivers within the Win 8.1 update check also the Win 8.1 32bit/64bit categories.

Answer:Satellite C70D-A: game lags due to graphic chip?

Well, I?m wondering why you purchased a unit with an internal (part of CPU) graphic chip if you want use the notebook for gaming?

The notebook supports the AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics which is part of AMD Quad-Core A6-5200 CPU.
Such GPU is similar to Intel HD GPU which is also part of Intel CPUs.

Such internal graphic cards are not really designed for gaming? of course you would be able to run and to play a game but don?t expect too much?

Hi there,

I was bought the above model of laptop for an early Christmas present which usually sits down in the living room, my old Satellite Pro sat down there with no issues however with this device the wireless signal is very low and I appear to be having it sitting right next to the wireless router (which is located upstairs in my sons bedroom), I wondered if there's any steps I could take to improve the signal?

It baffles me how a new system has such a poor wireless signal when my old Satellite Pro which was 6 years old had no wireless issues whatsoever.

My other issue is from the moment I switched the laptop on (yesterday when it was delivered) the updates on Windows Update are slow or don't start at all, is this an issue or just normal?

I'd appreciate any help or input at all, thank you.

ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E (05.2014) won?t to read DVDs anymore. It doesn't matter which one I try it simply doesn't work.
Latest driver is installed.

Message was edited: posting has been translated

Answer:ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E wont read DVDs anymore

If optical disc drive is installed properly maybe is reading lens dirty. Try to clean it up.

Other way, if your ODD can read CDs but not DVDs it can also be hardware malfunction. The reading lens cannot be calibrated properly and cannot find the right position to read DVD media.

In such case ODD must be exchanged.

Try to clean lens up and check if the problem persists. If yes contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Hi all,

excuse the new thread but I haven't found any answers anywhere online, just speculation and it's for different models.

So I have a C70D-B-10U, running windows 7 64bit pro. When I formatted it and updated everything, it just kept crashing when trying to play back videos on Windows Media Player. I cleaned the inside and replaced thermal paste, updated to even newer drivers, and started using VLC as my default media player. It rarely crashed BUT it always does when I try to start playing games (nothing heavy - League of Legends). Laptop seems to be doing well with memory tests, no faults detected.

I've read that this could be caused by:
Faulty GPUFaulty BatteryFaulty PSUBad Capacitors on the MOBO

Has anyone had any similar experience? I've reinstalled Windows and it's the same story. If it's a motherboard issue, I guess it would be better to just get a new one?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-10U no warning crash (power, GPU or capacitors)

Update: I decided to test the RAM and it seems like it can't handle 8GB. Both 4GB sticks work on any slot, but when I have all of it on the machine it crashes. Do you think it is a motherboard issue?

I have buy a Satellite C70D-A-11T and pass it on Windows 7 64 bits Home Premium.
I install all the drivers and I haven't any problems.

When I want to connect it to my TV for first time, I discover there is no sound on the TV.
I try to go on the speaker (near the clock of windows), right click, sound, first tab (I think it is "Playback" in english... I have a french Windows) and my device (TV) doesn't appear.

I come back on Toshiba Support website to download the last driver "HDMI Audio driver" for my laptop, I connect the cable, and it appear in the sound properties. I select it as my default device and the sound come right from my TV.

Great !

But when I restart my laptop (with or without the HDMI cable), the TV disappear from the list in the sound properties, the only one solution to recover the sound is to reinstall the HDMI Audio Driver.
If I start the driver installation with the "advanced" option, I have the list of drivers to install and I see all drivers are already installed, but the HDMI Audio Driver will be upgraded... I install it and it work until the next restart.

Could you explain me why the version of the driver don't stay on the system, and how to make it work without reinstall it everyday ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I've added this Satellite C70D-A-111 to an existing network which includes an printer.
Other devices can print OK but not this Toshiba.
The message is "Printer is in Error State".

If I connect the Toshiba to the printer via USB, it prints OK.

Can somebody steer me in the right direction please?

Do you use this printer at home or in your company?
I mean if you use it in your company ask system administrator for help.

Would be grateful for any advice to remove the back panel.

I've removed battery, ~16 screws + 1 tiny screw at the optical drive and whilst it does 'unclick' everywhere else, there seems to be something stopping the panel being removed just above the battery compartment and don't want to force it.

Even our IT guys at work cannot work it out.

PLEASE new laptop is very slow so have purchased RAM but can't access the back.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-30D: How to access back panel after ~16 screws removed

At first I must say that you should not remove bottom cover alone because it will cancel valid warranty. If there is no RAM cover, RAM should be exchanged or upgraded by authorized personal only.

I know every of us think it is easy to do and want to do this alone.
What I know is follow:
2 screws in the middle are fixing the keyboard. What must be removed are 14 screws and small flat screw at the optical drive. That’s all. There is no other hidden screw.

Of course there are also small plastic holders and bottom cover must be removed very gently.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

I've only noticed today that when I turn up my laptop's volume up to about 28 (even with headphones in), there's this high pitch noise that comes from the speakers. And I'm sure it's the speakers and not anything else.
But the sound is sort of that real ear-killing noise so I can't listen to it for long. It even sometimes sounds like thousands of crickets - a complete nightmare

But with my volume at any level below 28 I can listen to whatever through headphones without the sound bothering me.

Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I do know a thing or two about computers but nothing about anything extremely technical and I'm not sure if I want to take it apart, unless I really have to.

If you could help me it would be appreciated!

Hy everybody :)
So this problem occurs in 95% of time when external display is connected. Picture looks like it has artefacts, and color is all scrambled. Ati tools doesnt detect any artefacts, and restart of the system or waking up after standby "solves" the problem.
BIOS is latest, ram was upgraded from 1 to 2 GB, there is no difference which OS is used or which drivers are used (official or modded).

EDIT: Not long time ago I started playing battlefield2, and this happens often in this game but in no other (HAWX for example)
EDIT2:This corruption of display happens only on primary display, never on external.

So any ideas of how to solve this?

Answer:Satellite A200-23k - display corruption when external display is connected

hi Triu,
do you have changed the setting of the internal display device?
if you are exceeding the refresh rate such strange things will happen...
please try it and use the toshiba driver with the standard settings to test the system.

I have a Toshiba A200 - 1AI with Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 graphics, the laptop has a widescreen 1280x800. When a Taxan/Plus 1024x768 digital projector is plugged in and the option set to display on both display devices, the laptop changes to 1024x768 and stretches to fit the widescreen, the projector is perfect.

I would prefer the laptop to display non distorted with a black bar to each side of the screen. There is an option in the Bios that suggests this is posible and indeed when set the bios screen displays in this undistorted way, hoever when Vista boots it reverts to the stretched format.

Is there any way of geting round this.

Answer:Satellite A200-1AI: widescreen display when using a digital projector with 4x3 display

Did you saved the settings in the BIOS after changing this display option??
Please don?t forget to do this!!!

But if you have saved the settings and the display stills change to the stretched 1024x768 resolution, then you should check the nVidia graphic functions in the control panel of the Vista OS.

Go to the NVIDIA control panel and check the advanced view.

Good luck

I am after some help please.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 PSAW3A-07P00R.

recently there has been very, very dark display on the screen, almost impossible to see.
I have tried the following troubleshooting the issue.

1. Adjust brightness to MAX in Operating System, power plan, etc.
2. Reset BIOS to default settings.
3. Adjust brightness to MAX on Laptop brightness settings.
4. check external display via VGA cable. tested ok.
5. I purchased a new LED 16" screen however the new screen has the same issues. As i understand, the LED screens (1 video data cable out the bottom of the screen connecting to the mainboard) have the "inverter" built into the screen, so this doesnt appear to be a display, brightness or graphics card issue. Would i be right to assume this is related to the display data cable? if so, is this a part that can be sourced from Toshiba? or something easily repaired?

is there something easy i have missed, or something i have not tried?
has anyone else experienced this issue and resolved it?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Satellite A660 - Display Issues, Very Dim Display

As far as I know there is not FL inverter so either you can replace the display or the the LCD/FL cable (
LVDS cable) with a new one and test display again.
I found an compatible one: K000103140 LVDS CABLE

I got a wireless mouse and so, using F5 disabled the touchpad. Now I can't get it to work again. I was told, by the support robot/person here, to turn the laptop off and then to remove the battery and AC adapter before pressing and holding the power button on the laptop for 10 seconds. Then I should replace the AC adapter, leaving the battery out, before turning the machine on and then immediately start tapping the F2 key. This will take me into BIOS. Once there and the BIOS menu has loaded, tap the F9 key and then press Enter. This will reset BIOS to the default settings. To exit the BIOS, tap the F10 key and then press Enter. This will restart the laptop.

The trouble is I cannot do any of this as the battery is does not seem to be removable, by the customer at least, on this product.
Had I been able to achieve this and found the cure not to have happened that I should reinstall the touchpad driver.

As I cannot do what is advised, in correct sequence, I am at a loss as to just what I should do. HELP PLEASE.

Answer:Touchpad on Satelite C70D-12U not working

You dont need to remove the battery, you can do a hard reset by holding down the power button for 20 seconds.

Does the touchpad work in the BIOS?
If no, there may be a hardware problem.
If yes, uninstall the touchpad driver in Control Panel, then let Windows Update install the new driver.

I have two C70D's. Both died within weeks of each other, and went back for repair with RepairTech, under warranty.

Both machines failed to boot, with an error code(?) of three flashes of the power button.

One machine came back within a week, fully working.

The other took three weeks, came back with a change of motherboard (they say). I unpacked it, and it was still not booting, still flashing three times on the power button.

I phoned repairtech, immediately, sent it back, the next day.

Today it came home, again, I opened wont boot, and does the same three flashes on the power light.

Back on the phone. They've booked it in again, saying maybe it's a peripheral. The only peripheral is the power adaptor. I have two. It doesn't work with either.

I believe the problem is battery related, but it's an internal battery so I can't open it without voiding the warranty.

Has anyone else had problems with RepairTech? Does anyone know if this is a battery problem?

I have a Satellite Pro A10, roughly 2 1/2 years old and have never had much trouble with it but the other day when I tried to watch a DVD, the viewing program (InterActual Player) opened as normal and then a few seconds later the display changed to a very low resolution (something like 14 colours, almost a negative image, and everything was massive, though I can't remember the actual figures) and it said that I had to reboot in order to return things to normal. I tried the same DVD in Windows Media Player as well as trying other DVDs and at first all DVDs would play in Media Player but not Interactual but now the same thing happens no matter what DVD or player I use.

Also, I switched on the computer this morning and got a message saying the battery was low (though this was because I hadn't plugged in the computer yet, nothing to do with the last errors) and the computer went into standby. I plugged in the computer and pressed the power button to take it out of standby and the display went very dark but visibly pixellated (I think that's the word, it had dots visible as if someone were holding a magnifying glass up to it) and very slowly got brighter until it was a series of brightly coloured narrow stripes, like a giant pixel or a tv test screen.
Could this be a problem with the display drivers (though I've already tried to update them and have since found that I constantly see a 'Cannot find requested string' message by the icon for the display in the Control Panel), t... Read more

Answer:Satellite Pro A10 Display and DVD issues

Hello Nicola

Like you know on this way it is not easy to say what the problem can be. In my opinion it is important to see what happen exactly. I presume that your problem is not caused by display driver. Try to test it properly and notice in which situation the display went very dark.

If this issue repeats again and again I recommend you to back up your data and reinstall the unit with recovery media. On this way the unit will be ?factory configured? and you can see if the problem occurs again. If yes, it can be just caused by hardware malfunction.

Good luck!

Lately I've been noticing how, even in High color (16 bit) mode, this notebook has a super slow response. For example watching tiny flash movies, they stutter like you would not believe. Even compared to my old desktop PC this is slow. It has been faster, as far as I recall.

The system is clean, it loads the fewest possible drivers and services (I co-developed XP Performance edition, so there's no way it is Windows' fault here).

I checked on Intel based drivers for this (82852/82855 GM/GME), and those are much newer versions than the one on the Toshiba download site. Installing them instead of the 2003 drivers from Toshiba did not help one bit. Also, tried with and without direct-x, but still the display is extremely slow for what I think it should be.

I also noticed, but that's not new, that codecs load very slowly. If ever I load a small avi or wmv or mpeg, it takes a minute before it even starts. It seems memory management is dreadful in A30. Maybe the chipset drivers are bad, but hey, I've already tried reinstalling those as well. The latest ones from your website anyway.

Also, I have to stress that there's a lot of RAM in it already. And yes, it's the right kind of RAM (brand was sold as verified for this particular model).

Really, I have to say, I've had 486 desktops with only 4 MB of display memory in their graphic cards do all this so much faster!

Does this mean hardware is broken perhaps?

I'm considering installing an old Windows 2000 version. Ho... Read more

Answer:Slow display on Satellite A30-404

Hi there,

I wonder why you have problems with your system because if you co-developed XP Performance edition you should surely have enough experience to handle such kind of problem. ;)

I would suggest a complete reinstall of the system, newest drivers for your components and the top of the whole procedure should be a install of an codec pack like "K-lite codec pack".

If the problem then persists, another idea would be to clean the cooling system since a with dust clobbed cooling system pulls a lot of performance since the CPU throttles down which is causing such issues.

IMHO that would be essential and if the steps which I described do not help, then maybe somethin could be wrong with your hardware.

I'm brand new to this forum so sorry if I'm posting in he wrong place. I'm having one helluva problem with my brand new Toshiba L50-A-1FK laptop (for specs see link below).

Straight out of the box, the display was incredibly grainy. While looking at pictures or watching videos (using any app, or from any source) the quality is simply unacceptable and far worse than my old pavilion g6 which has a few years on this model.

I trawled he internet for solutions and found no help. Drivers are updated, native resolution is set, other drivers tried, other resolutions, tinkering with windows setings. When plugged into tv via hdmi, its still the same so clearly its not a screen problem.

So I contacted the supplier, Komplett, and they sent me a replacement. Exactly the same! And I definitely is a brand new model but this problem persists. Please help!

To me, it seems to be a fault with he intel hd 4600 graphics chipset as it would be the one that handles just pictures and videos (anything that's not 3d) but I have updated he driver as much as toshiba will allow me to.

If you need further info, just let me know. Help is hard to come by for this model as it seems hat it is only sold in the Netherlands (I'm from Ireland but komplett [a dutch company] have an irish site).

Answer:Satellite L50-A-1FK Grainy Display

What do you mean exactly by ?grainy display??
Do you mean the display?s low resolution or brightness?
Did you notice some differences using external monitor?

The notebook was equipped with a TruBrite HD TFT 16:9 display supporting the 1366 x 768 resolution.
The 1366x768 is the max possible resolution for this internal screen and of course you will notice some difference between the 1366x768 and other higher resolution supported by other internal screens.

By the way: the notebook was equipped with the NVIDIA? GeForce? GT 740M graphic card.
The Intel GPU you mentioned above is just an internal graphic unit part of the Intel CPU.

Hi Kevin,

As far as I know the L20 range was only supplied with Windows XP so it is unlikely that you will be able to get a suitable Windows 2000 Display Driver from Toshiba.

As you have already found out it is usually not possible to use the graphics manufacturers drivers directly since the graphics card is specially modified for use in a notebook.

You could try using third party drivers from sites such as

That?s very strange and to be honest I cannot say for sure why these parts replacement did not help you to solve this issue. Fact is that the external monitor looks OK and the graphic chip isn?t the troublemaker. Therefore the issue must be related to internal screen or FL inverter.

I would recommend you to contact the Toshiba authorized service provider to get more details regarding such issues and to get compatible parts.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-2GD laptop/notebook, which came without a OS. I installed a copy of my Windows 7 Ultimate that I pre-owned, had a bit of trouble getting most things to work properly (still cant get the function and F1, F2... keys to work to lower brightness and etc...), but the biggest issue is that no video driver is compatible at all.

The laptop is listed to have a Intel HD Graphics card, but the driver for that does not work, giving a "Does not meet system requirements" error. All video card drivers given on Toshiba's Driver page for this model do absolutely nothing and Windows ends up installing it's Generic VGA Adapter Driver.
Can someone help me out with this?
Also, does anyone know if this can be the cause of GOM player not reading any video files (even though Codecs have already been installed)? If not - any ideas for a fix for this?

Hi I have a Toshiba Satellite C50-A-19T running windows 8 and lately the display is almost non-existent.
When I start the machine up, I can just about see the Toshiba Logo and that's about it - even it's hard to see.

What I have tried:
1) External Monitor - External display works fine (connected via VGA).
2) I've tried the Fn/F4 button to chang which display, tried a few settings and still nothing on Laptop Screen
3) I've obviously checked the brightness, it's almost max.
4) I've removed battery and power, left laptop off for a while, then tried powering back up with battery still out - nothing different.
5) I've googled like mad and tried removing battery & power, holding power button down for 60+ seconds, done this 5-10 times in all, still nothing when I power it back on
6) I've replaced the screen with one from another similar toshiba that I know is working - it acts exactly the same.

Is there anything else I'm missing here?

The laptop is working like a dream when plugged into an external monitor.....and I've removed and reloaded all display drivers, reset CMOS, etc.

I'm baffled now and this is for one of the kids for homeworks, so my ears are getting sore !!

Answer:Satellite Pro M30 - display drivers!?!

The drivers used on notebooks are not the same like drivers that you can find on graphic card producer site. Those drivers are designed for notebooks and have also a small protect function. There is also a kind of restriction who doesn?t allow maximum usage because of overheating and hardware protecting.

You can try to install original driver but there is no guarantee that it will work properly. I recommend you to use Toshiba designed one. Unfortunately I didn?t find any information about updates.

Have tried using the Fn +F5 on power-on, but it doesn't work.
Have checked BIOS and Power settings in windows and can see nothing obvious.
Have set the laptop to dual Laptop and CRT display, but when I reboot, all I get is a signal through the external monitor (until I log in to windows), then the laptop screen starts working.
Have made no changes to settings, or installed no new software to prompt this development.
Have tried restoring Windows to a system checkpoint well before this started happening, but no joy.

Any ideas?

Answer:Display Issue on Satellite Pro M40

Did you change the external monitor screen to a default monitor?

In such case the notebooks display will not work till the OS has load.
Well, please check in the graphic card properties if the notebooks internal display is set as a default display!

If it does not help I would recommend checking if it?s possible to start the notebook in safe mode and if the notebooks display can be enabled.
If all this settings change nothing then the new system installation could be advisable.

Good luck

My L650, despite leds and fan coolers aparently work well, it dont display nothing on the screen... I tried to connect it by hdmi and vga, but the result was the same.

Can you give me some help?

Answer:Satellite L650 No display

- disconnect AC adaptor
- remove battery
- press and hold power button 30-40 seconds
- connect battery and ac adaptor
- press power button.

If not, try new good working RAM modules.
If RAM doesn’t help, the notebook developed serious hardware problem… I guess that in such case only service engineer could help you

Hi everibody, this is my first post in this forum.

I have a very annoying problem on the P10 notebook that I bought 6 months ago.

Since a few days flickering horizontal lines appear on the screen: for example when a white window is displayed on a black background, pink flickering lines appear on the left of the white window.

Can anybody help?

The lcd screen of the l30-115 has broken.

- laptop was not dropped.
- The darkness is uniform.
- Everything else powers up fine, meaning, you can see the OS loading in the background.
- Works fine on external display (FN+F5)

Already tried:
- Reseating the connectors.
- Tested the inverter with another display (14,1"other brand) - result: the backlight firred_up fine.
- Tried another inverter (exact model), same result.

My conclusions:
- The backlight of the screen is broken. Should change it.

I do not have a backlight for the exact same model of display. I didn't find it for ordering in my region.

Found similar backlight (14" of toshiba tecra 8200) for 10 Euro's . Can I use that in my model?
I also read that the backlight switch could be stuck. I Couldn't find it on this model. Does it use a magnetic sensor?

Any help is be apreciated

Answer:Satellite L30-115 - broken TFT display

> I do not have a backlight for the exact same model of display. I didn't find it for ordering in my region.
I assume you mean the display?
Well, you can order all compatible parts from the Toshiba ASP in your country.
But new display part is expensive?

> Found similar backlight (14" of Toshiba Tecra 8200) for 10 Euro's . Can I use that in my model?
Well, the L30 was equipped with the WXGA TFT 14.1? display.
I think the 14? could be too small for the L30. But this is only my assumption?

Yesterday we had a blackout, i turned my notebook into standby mode.
When i started it today, the whole configuration went crazy...i restarted it and my whole screen went black after about 2 seconds in windows.

Now i recoverded it, because i thought it would probably solve the problem, well it didn't.
Now the screen isn't working. It sometimes does, when windows is loading but neither the toshiba starting screen nor windows itself is working.

well im using a differnt screen now and it is working.
So basically the screen seems to work...
and also there's a video signal given.

So..the configuration must be the reason...
But the strange thing it didnt change back to normal when i recovered it!

So...well i have absolutely no clue what could be the reason...
and yeah, hope someone can help me!!!

Answer:Display problem with my Satellite M60-139

as you say when using an external monitor it works, the problem must be hardware related. It can't be the configuration if you recovered the notebook.

I am using Satellite M 70 notebook, purchased about more than one year back and really like it ( Pentium M70, 512MB Ram, 40 GB HD). So far it has been without major issues.

The only problem now I face is that some times the screen for a second or a fraction of second. It happens randomly, once or twice in a day and the flutter is more prmonant in lower part of screen. Seems a minor issue but it irritates me as I think it is too early for a laptop to show such an issue and it might progress with time. What u thinks of it? Is it an issue with the graphics chip (it has Mobile Intel 915 GM), Motherboard or any other hardware? Does not seem to be a software issue to me.

BTW I have seen such flutter in two other non Toshiba laptops with my friends but in their case it was more frequent and very prominent and all the screen will flutter and shake for a second/ or a fraction of a second, a very, very unpleasant feeling.

My problem is that I can not even show it to a tech as I do not know how I can reproduce this flutter to show him, it happens randomly and infrequently.

I will like to tell about two other minor issues with M70 as well:

I have set in Power Settings, the screen to be turned off after 5 minutes and laptop to be standby after 10 minutes. When screen is turned off and laptop is still not gone into standby mode, the normal behavior for the screen is to become ON if u touch the Touch Pad (or move the mouse). I noted that sometimes, the screen will no... Read more

Answer:Display issues on Satellite M70

Hello aiglehawk

I have read your posting very carefully because I have Satellite M70-159 amost a year now and it is always very interesting to see what other M70 owners report about this notebook model.

Unfortunately here in forum is not possible to give you any precise diagnostic but I just want to write my comment about your posting. Maybe sounds strange but I will start with your latest sentence:

> Really I will be reluctant to buy a Toshiba next time due to these issues.

In my opinion this sentence is absolutely superfluous and I am pretty sure you will write the same if you have had any other non-Toshiba notebook. I can understand you but you know very well that if BMW produce 100 cars it can always happen that 5 of them have some ?fault?.

Believe me my Satellite M70 is almost permanent on (day and night). I have get it from company where I work and I do not care about it at all. It runs and runs. I have tested all stuff you wrote in your posting and it works perfect. All power saver settings I have changed many times and I have never noticed something similar.

Yes you are right about service. I believe that you can not reproduce this but I am sure that you know very well that technician have different diagnostic tools for hardware checking. Using those tools they can find out if some hardware component is defective or not.

Because of that I recommend you to contact service. Let them check your notebook. Is the warranty still valid?

I have a Satellite A50-542.

I switched on and all I have in front of me are a load of lines, cannot see through them.

Can anybody suggest a remedy or solution?

Many thanks

Answer:Satellite A50-542: lines on the display

Do you see the same lines on the external monitor?
If yes, then the graphic card might be affected which means that you will need to replace the motherboard.

If the lines are visible only on the internal display then the display itself might be faulty.

Did you try to reinstall the display driver?

I have a problem with the play Hello Kitty, I receive an error message of Windows with the loading.
I wanted installed Catalyst 5.13, I have the following message: INF error. Video driver not found
I then downloaded on the Toshiba site last driver 8.12, but once installed I always into 6.14
Would have you are an idea?

Answer:Satellite M60 - Display driver

If you want to install non Toshiba graphic driver or even some updates it happen very often that driver installation is not possible. The Toshiba driver is designed to protect graphic card hardware. If you want to use maximum performance there is a risk of overheating and hardware damaging. Because of that there is this error message (hardware not found or similar stuff).

In my opinion you should use just Toshiba designed one. Satellite M60 is pretty new unit with very good graphic card performance. Hopefully Toshiba will create some updates soon.

Having problems with getting my L50-B's display to boot up. Everything else is running but the display won't boot at all - I just get complete black screen.

I have tried the following with no success:

1) Connecting to a working external display
2) Disconnecting power, removing battery and discharging power from the laptop before turning it on again
3) Turning it off and on again

It is a new laptop (~2 months), has been working fine until a few days ago. On Day 1 of it breaking, I had to hard reset once, then display booted up and laptop functioned as normal. Day 2 of it breaking, I tried all of the above, eventually it decided to randomly boot up BIOS, so I know the display itself isn't broken. A couple of reboots later, it booted up fine and I was able to work on it for the rest of the day with no further issues (I was also able to wake it from hibernation and the display came on okay). Day 3 of it breaking (today), I can't get it to work at all.

Any and all help appreciated!

Answer:Satellite Pro L50-B - no display while booting up

Everything else is running

What does this mean exactly?
How did you know that everything is OK apart from the display?

You said that you already checked the notebook in connection with external monitor and even external display does not show anything…
To me this means that this issue is NOT related to internal display problem but probably with other part like RAM, motherboard or GPU.

However, the notebook is only 2 month old… so get in contact with Toshiba ASP as fast as possible… the warranty covers the hardware problems and from my point of few this issue is causes my hardware fault.

Hi folks, I have the following problem:

I have an older Satellite M30-642 laptop. My keyboard on it is completely broke (spilled something over it) so I am using an external USB keyboard.

Now that I got myself a TFT I wanted to use it as primary device so I need to switch the laptop to external output.
The laptop itself recognizes it as secondary display already, but that is not what I want.
Problem is that I cannot switch display devices without the FN key!

I already tried searching the net and this forum - but the solution posted does not work for the M30!! There is no option in HW Utility and also not in the BIOS to enable external keyboard support.
Please is there no other key combination that might work or a software utility that allows me to switch it? This is a really bad situation for me :(

Any solutions anyone??? :(

Greetings and thanks in advance

Answer:How to use external display with my Satellite M30?

Please do not be mad on me but I write here very often and try somehow to help but I am always irritated if somebody thinks that everything is feasible. Unfortunately you must accept that sometimes there is hardware limitation and there is nothing to do.
I am talking about primary and secondary monitor.

On most notebooks the LCD display is always set as primary and can not be changed. So, as far as I know, without using FN+F5 key combination you can extend the desktop to external display and use both of them. Using display settings you should be able to switch to external display only (control panel ? display ? settings ? advances settings ? NVIDIA and so on). Please test it alone because I do not have M30 but the principle is moustly the same.

If you will be able to use external display only try to restart your notebook and see on which display the desktop will be shown. If you will be lucky and desktop will be shown on external display, try to expand the desktop to second monitor (notebook LCD).

I am using my Laptop for producing privat movies with a Programm called Studio from Pinnacle. Up to Version 9 it was working well. Now on latest version 10 the inside monitor didn?t show the movies from my camera. While starting the programm i get a note that the display driver NVIDIA GEforce FX Go5600 has to be updated. Installed is the driver version from Toshiba.
Is there a higher update available and where can I download this ?

Answer:Satellite P10-554 Display driver

sorry but Toshiba doesn't provide a newer display driver for the P10. But you can look for a newer notebook with the same graphics card, maybe it has a newer driver that will work in the P10. Or you can use the driver from the nVidia site, but be careful it is not designed for notebooks and can cause overheatings.

When Windows does not finish loading then everything is ok

But when the Windows OS has finished the booting it shows me this:

Answer:Satellite M70 - display issue

Do you mean the red signs on the display???
Sorry but it?s very difficult to recognize something?

Try to reinstall the display driver and check if this would disappear.

Additionally you could connect an external monitor and could check if the same issue would be visible on the second monitor.
This procedure could be helpful to find out what could be wrong or what part would malfunctions.
Generally if the same is visible on booth monitors then a issue could be related to the faulty graphic card.
If the issue is visible only on one monitor then a faulty display could lead to such problems?

Nevertheless, check firstly the graphic driver update?

Good luck

Today, after almost two years of usage with no problems, the diplay on my Satellite M30-901 crashed. Starting to normally use the notebook, the display became "unstable", tremoring, vertical lines appeared, the background brightness changed successively on green, violet, blue then normal white, it was like watching through smog. Then it got frozen. I rebooted the notebook, worked a little bit and crashed the same way. After third normal reboot the problem appeared from the first image, when booting. I tried to use an external monitor but it does not work. Any ideas? Could it be the motherboard or the display itself. I treated my laptop with very much care, did not hit or drop it. Anyy suggestions, or simmilar behavior? Could it be a faulty display card? Thank you ver much!

Answer:Satellite M30 Display crash

Well it?s not easy to say what the problem can be. It?s definitely a hardware fault but I can?t give you a detailed answer. You need a diagnostic test which can be doing by ASP.
In my opinion you should ask the Toshiba service partner for detailed informations.
Maybe it?s only a FL inverter or one of the cables is loose but for this info you should ask the ASP.
