Satellite C70D - impossible to deblock mousepad

Question: Satellite C70D - impossible to deblock mousepad

My mousepad doesn' work as it should. I tried to deblock with FN+F5, only F5, FN+F9, ... but nothing helps.
All I can do is move the cursor and use the mousepad when keeping the left mouse button at the same time.
Anyone a solution?

Preferred Solution: Satellite C70D - impossible to deblock mousepad

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite C70D - impossible to deblock mousepad

To be honest I’ve never heard about such touchpad behaviour.
Have you tested all touchpad settings?
If there is option to set all of them on default settings please do this and test functionality again.

Anyway, best hardware test is to reinstall operating system and check touchpad functionality with “factory settings”.

Just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as far as I know until know), except boot from DVD. I disabled in the bios the Secure Boot and changed the boot order to DVD first, then USB and then HDD. The DVD drive starts, but then it skips to the HDD and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so that is not the problem.
I would like to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Anyone solved this problem already?

Answer:Satellite C70D - How to boot from DVD

Update: changing from UEFI to CMS in the BIOS Advanced tab makes it possible to boot from DVD, but Windows won't boot anymore.... Is there any possibility to boot from DVDE and still be able to start Windows as well?

My wive purchase this computer coupple of months ago. It was from the beginning ferry slow on windows 8
The wurst laptop we ever had. We feel robbed of our money.

2 months ago we started with Ubuntu. It Still slow. IS there anybody with the same problems?

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

Hi Marco

I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm what you wrote but fact is that almost all new notebooks are pretty slow at the beginning. Many applications are set to start with Windows and this, of course, slows down boot time.
Windows updates are also set to automatic so in the background the machine will download and install many updates so this will slow down your machine rapidly.

In my opinion you should install original OS that you got with this machine and optimize it a bit.
Remove all useless stuff, change start-up option and disable automatic Windows updates.
In the past I have noticed that original preinstalled antivirus is also responsible for notebook?s performance so I don't use original preinstalled application but my own version of Avir Antivir and it runs perfectly.

Check all these options and I hope your machine will run much better than before.

Hello everybody,
the Toshiba Sat C70D-B-317 (PSCLEE01L009FR) is on it's way and I don't have it for the moment but I would like to know if there is a way to add some Ram to this machine without opening everything?
Also, is it possible to change the HD in the future in the same conditions?

sorry, but it's my first PC laptop and as a Mac user I'm completely lost with all these models and different serial numbers.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

1. yes you can upgrade your RAM, This laptop has 2 slots with one 4GB standard so if you would you can put one more 4GB. With 2x4 you have Dual-channel and that works much faster than single

I don't know if your HDD can e upgraded. When it's not possible you can always buy a external HDD

I hope i helped you

I have a C70D-A-107 and want to speed up this notebook. Already placed 4gb extra memory so the notebook has now 8gb internal. I doubt whether it is usefull to put in 2x8gb. I think the processor is just to slow. It has a AMD E1-2100 inside. Is it possible to put in another (faster) processor?

Answer:Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

The Satellite C70D-A-107 was equipped with an AMD Essentials E1-2100 Accelerated CPU (1,00 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache)
It’s not the fastest CPU therefore the notebook performance isn’t the best…

But CPU upgrade isn’t officially supported by notebook manufacturer... therefore I don’t think that you will be able to upgrade the CPU…

I read about successful Intel CPU upgrades but did not meet anyone who was able to perform an upgrade with an AMD CPU

Good evening,

I'm sorry to disturb,
but I find myself in a situation to which I find no solution,
that's why I come here asking for some help.

A friend has just purchased the following laptop:
- Satellite C70D-B-307

but the worry is that apparently it is impossible to have access to the HDD recovery to execute the factory restoration.
I try all possible solutions that I find on the web and none of it works.

what to do ?

does Toshiba sell the recovery DVDs that will restore the computer to its factory state?

Thank you very much .

I'm looking for a new display for my Toshiba Satellite C70D-A-11K!

Please help!

Answer:Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

The Satellite C70D-A-11K was equipped with the 17.3" LED color LCD panel with the supporting max resolution of 1600 x 900 px
You should be able to order such display panel from local Toshiba authorized service provider or you could check some 3rd part online dealers who provide compatible notebook parts…

As I mention above: you should look for the 17.3" panels.

The question is: what are you doing with your machine?
Do you try to use some older Windows version?

I picked up a brand new c70d-b-10u today from a well known retailer.
I turned it on, set the language, gave a computer name, hooked up to a wi fi and then it asked for Other User Password!

I never entered a password to start with so why is it asking for one?

I cannot get to the shop again until next week and urgently need to get up and running.

Any ideas greatly received.

Answer:Brand new Satellite C70D-B-10U wants a password?

Try to recover the notebook once again using the HDD recovery option.

The recovery procedure would reset the notebook back to factory settings… usually after that no passwords should be set…

So I bought this laptop a few months ago.
For the past few weeks the Laptop stopped playing sound.
I watched a stream in Chrome.

So actually I should be able to see the sound playing in the mixer.
But I wasn't able to play any sound or get any deflection in the mixer.

Then I installed Speccy and as this administration window popped up a sound was played and it worked.

I have no idea why the sound stopped working and why it started again.
Is someone able to help me?

I am using Windows 8.1

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D - no sound, random

The main thing is that you have sound again. It is not easy to say what was wrong there.
Have you installed some updates or anything else that can be responsible for this sound issue?

After a regular shutdown I cannot boot the system anymore.
System starts but does not boot.

Referring to the manual (section 6, solutions of problems) I tried to hit [F12] after power on but nothing happened.
Same when hitting [F2].

My impression is that something failed on hard disk drive.

P.S. system has Win10 installed.

Hi all,

My grandmother recently bought this Toshiba, mostly i recommend people a Toshiba but this is going to far.

I wasn't aware that she bought a laptop untill she called me and said she needs help because she never worked with such a slow computer as this Toshiba.

So my question is

How much logic does Toshiba has? I mean putting 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM ( ok nice for a casual laptop ) doesn't quite fit with a >>1GHz<< processor. for the rest the specs aren't terrible.

Can somebody explain me why this laptop has a 1GHz processor with 6GB of RAM. this doensn't makes sence at all

My girlfriend bought me a new Toshiba laptop C70D-B-10U (my second Toshiba), it is a good laptop apart from the speakers they are terrible. I didn't want my first post to be a complaint but, Toshiba cut corners when it put the speakers in this series of laptops.

Or have I not set them right has anyone else had this problem, any ideas or solutions thank you.

Answer:Bad Speakers on Satellite C70D-B-10UM

I think your notebook has only small stereo speakers and the sound is not the best. I have Satellite S50-B with Harman/kardon speakers and sound is really good.

You can try to change sound options but if you want to have better sound I’m afraid you need external speakers, Maybe BT speakers.

Hi All,

I have an Satellite C70D-A-11D ... when I use once the FN Key to do a Print Screen or use the Screen-Zoom on the Space Key...

I am not able to use the Keynumbers 1 to 4 neither the space Key to enter a space between two always change between the bigger screen solution or the normal solution...

I only can change the FN Key again after change the settings in Display settings and after a reboot...
So I cant use FN without a reset with the F1 to F12 Key use and a reboot...

Normaly the FN Key works only if it is pressed...if not the normal Function of the Keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?

What to do?

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D Function Key deactivate after use

First of all you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)

This function can be changed in BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration

Check this option.

Answer:Can I replace the HDD in my Satellite C70D-B -00P model with an SSD?

Generally speaking yes, you can do this but problem is that your notebook model doesn't have HDD cover at the bottom side.
To have full access to the HDD the bottom cover must be removed completely but it should be done by authorized service only.

Of course you can try to do it alone but I?m afraid you may lose the warranty.
If possible contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask for help.

I have a Satellite C70D-A-114...

i hardly used it because it was slow

so i wanted to sell it

first i wanted to set it back to factory settings

doing that, in that process i seem to have deleted all files

so now i get message no bootable disc etc.

Tried everything, there is simply no recovery file

So where can i find such a file for free? It's just not normal that it is not on the site.

Answer:Need recovery files for my Satellite C70D-A-114

All you can find for free are all drivers, tools and utilities. Original recovery image (software package) is not for free and if you need it you must order recovery disc directly by Toshiba.

You can order it on

By the way: in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can create recovery installation disc. I’m wondering you didn’t make it in the past.

I have 2 issues with my new Satellite C70D-B-32U.
When I put it in sleep mode, it does. But after about 5 minutes, it goes automatically to hibernate. This I don't want. And I don't want to disable hibernate, because I do use it when the laptop is not in use for longer periods. The power settings in control panel do not reflect this behaviour. In the settings, I specified that the laptop should never go to hibernate. Hybrid state is disabled.

And secondly, more importantly. Whenever it goes to hibernate, I can only wake it up with the power button. Not with the (internal) keyboard, not with the usb mouse. I would like an option to wake it from hibernate by pressing any key on the keyboard. In bios power on keyboard is set to on. Is there anything else I can change to have this available?
Actually if issue 1 is solved and the laptop stays in sleep mode, this issue is also solved since from sleep I can wake on a mouseclick which is also fine.

The OS is windows 8.1

Hi There,

I have had a Satellite C70D for about 18 months now, but have not used it in the past year as I have been disputing with customer services about the windows licence for the machine as I lost it when I formatted the original hard drive before installing an SSD and they wouldnt send me a copy of it. I have now bitten the bullet and bought a windows 10 licence again. However since building the machine a few days ago, I have been having a couple of issues and as it is now out of warranty, I cannot contact customer support (Who I found unhelpful even when it was in warranty!)

The first issue is when I boot up the machine, occasionally the keyboard will not work, I cannot type the BitLocker pin and I have to remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this then fixes the issue for a few reboots before it goes again.

The second is that occasionally it will boot up with a red x next to the WiFi symbol, but it detects the WiFi card, usually a reboot fixes this but not always. I have reseated the card and still no avail.

Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing this? The BIOS is up-to-date as are all of the drivers.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi all,

excuse the new thread but I haven't found any answers anywhere online, just speculation and it's for different models.

So I have a C70D-B-10U, running windows 7 64bit pro. When I formatted it and updated everything, it just kept crashing when trying to play back videos on Windows Media Player. I cleaned the inside and replaced thermal paste, updated to even newer drivers, and started using VLC as my default media player. It rarely crashed BUT it always does when I try to start playing games (nothing heavy - League of Legends). Laptop seems to be doing well with memory tests, no faults detected.

I've read that this could be caused by:
Faulty GPUFaulty BatteryFaulty PSUBad Capacitors on the MOBO

Has anyone had any similar experience? I've reinstalled Windows and it's the same story. If it's a motherboard issue, I guess it would be better to just get a new one?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-10U no warning crash (power, GPU or capacitors)

Update: I decided to test the RAM and it seems like it can't handle 8GB. Both 4GB sticks work on any slot, but when I have all of it on the machine it crashes. Do you think it is a motherboard issue?

I have buy a Satellite C70D-A-11T and pass it on Windows 7 64 bits Home Premium.
I install all the drivers and I haven't any problems.

When I want to connect it to my TV for first time, I discover there is no sound on the TV.
I try to go on the speaker (near the clock of windows), right click, sound, first tab (I think it is "Playback" in english... I have a french Windows) and my device (TV) doesn't appear.

I come back on Toshiba Support website to download the last driver "HDMI Audio driver" for my laptop, I connect the cable, and it appear in the sound properties. I select it as my default device and the sound come right from my TV.

Great !

But when I restart my laptop (with or without the HDMI cable), the TV disappear from the list in the sound properties, the only one solution to recover the sound is to reinstall the HDMI Audio Driver.
If I start the driver installation with the "advanced" option, I have the list of drivers to install and I see all drivers are already installed, but the HDMI Audio Driver will be upgraded... I install it and it work until the next restart.

Could you explain me why the version of the driver don't stay on the system, and how to make it work without reinstall it everyday ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Answer:Satellite C70D-A: game lags due to graphic chip?

Well, I?m wondering why you purchased a unit with an internal (part of CPU) graphic chip if you want use the notebook for gaming?

The notebook supports the AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics which is part of AMD Quad-Core A6-5200 CPU.
Such GPU is similar to Intel HD GPU which is also part of Intel CPUs.

Such internal graphic cards are not really designed for gaming? of course you would be able to run and to play a game but don?t expect too much?

I have a toshiba C70D-B-306 (psclee) laptop and I reinstalled windows 8.1 from a seperate DVD because i exchange the default harddrive for a fast ssd disk.

Can someone tell me which driver I exactly need for these 2 devices?

The 2 devices are:

As mentioned, i allready downloaded all drivers for this laptop and installed them, windows is ofcourse up-to-date. Also I let windows search for drivers on the Internet and on the whole drive, but no drivers where found.

Who can give me the golden tip?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-306 - 2 unknown devices in device list

There is a good method in order to find out what drivers are missing.
First of all you should check the DEV (device) and VEN (vendor) IDs

Here is an short instruction how to find this details:

Knowing the device and vendor ID, it should not be a big deal to get the right drivers.

At the other hand you should install also additional Toshiba software (Toshiba System Driver) released for Win 8.1
Please note also that there are two Win 8.1 driver areas: ?Win 8.1 update? and ?Win 8.1 32bit/64bit? categories
In case you would not find all drivers within the Win 8.1 update check also the Win 8.1 32bit/64bit categories.

Hi there,

I was bought the above model of laptop for an early Christmas present which usually sits down in the living room, my old Satellite Pro sat down there with no issues however with this device the wireless signal is very low and I appear to be having it sitting right next to the wireless router (which is located upstairs in my sons bedroom), I wondered if there's any steps I could take to improve the signal?

It baffles me how a new system has such a poor wireless signal when my old Satellite Pro which was 6 years old had no wireless issues whatsoever.

My other issue is from the moment I switched the laptop on (yesterday when it was delivered) the updates on Windows Update are slow or don't start at all, is this an issue or just normal?

I'd appreciate any help or input at all, thank you.

ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E (05.2014) won?t to read DVDs anymore. It doesn't matter which one I try it simply doesn't work.
Latest driver is installed.

Message was edited: posting has been translated

Answer:ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E wont read DVDs anymore

If optical disc drive is installed properly maybe is reading lens dirty. Try to clean it up.

Other way, if your ODD can read CDs but not DVDs it can also be hardware malfunction. The reading lens cannot be calibrated properly and cannot find the right position to read DVD media.

In such case ODD must be exchanged.

Try to clean lens up and check if the problem persists. If yes contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Would be grateful for any advice to remove the back panel.

I've removed battery, ~16 screws + 1 tiny screw at the optical drive and whilst it does 'unclick' everywhere else, there seems to be something stopping the panel being removed just above the battery compartment and don't want to force it.

Even our IT guys at work cannot work it out.

PLEASE new laptop is very slow so have purchased RAM but can't access the back.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-30D: How to access back panel after ~16 screws removed

At first I must say that you should not remove bottom cover alone because it will cancel valid warranty. If there is no RAM cover, RAM should be exchanged or upgraded by authorized personal only.

I know every of us think it is easy to do and want to do this alone.
What I know is follow:
2 screws in the middle are fixing the keyboard. What must be removed are 14 screws and small flat screw at the optical drive. That’s all. There is no other hidden screw.

Of course there are also small plastic holders and bottom cover must be removed very gently.

I've only noticed today that when I turn up my laptop's volume up to about 28 (even with headphones in), there's this high pitch noise that comes from the speakers. And I'm sure it's the speakers and not anything else.
But the sound is sort of that real ear-killing noise so I can't listen to it for long. It even sometimes sounds like thousands of crickets - a complete nightmare

But with my volume at any level below 28 I can listen to whatever through headphones without the sound bothering me.

Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I do know a thing or two about computers but nothing about anything extremely technical and I'm not sure if I want to take it apart, unless I really have to.

If you could help me it would be appreciated!

I have a touchscreen Toshiba Satellite NB10T-A-101 , the touch screen works fine however i mostly use the mousepad as i find using the cursor much easier,

However recently my cursor kept freezing for a second or two and then moving again, but today the mouse pad doesn't seem to be working at all the left and right click buttons work but not the touch pad.

I've made sure that the touch pad is enabled in the mouse settings so i really don't know what to do now.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Answer:Satellite NB10T-A-101 - Mousepad is not working

Hmm?did you check also the key combination FN+F5?
This would enable and disable the touchpad as well.

But from my point of view it might be possible that the touchpad module malfunctions.
I?m thinking about the hardware malfunction because the touchpad buttons work and just the touch area of the touch module doesn?t work properly.

Usually if the touchpad would be disabled by any software, both; buttons as well as the touch area should not work.

Hi, I have a SATELLITE C855 - 13T.

I've only had it a month and the mousepad has now stopped working. Both the touchpad and and right/left clicks aren't working. I've managed to connect an external mouse into the USB which is working fine. I've restarted the laptop multiple times and also checked the Control Panel-Mouse settings, which says that the Touchpad device is working properly. I've also checked that the option to disable the internal device when external is connected is also not ticked.

I'd be very grateful if anyone has any advice on how to get this working again.

Many Thanks

Answer:Mousepad is not working on Satellite C855-13T

Have you tried using the Fn keys? Maybe you toggled the trackpad off using those keys. Its malfunction may also be caused by a shock, not necessarily an electric shock, but more of a physical shock, like a hit. I know this may sound childish, but I had this problem at the beginning, too.

I toggled the trackpad off using the Fn keys, and I didn't know how to bring it back anymore. Also, have you installed the Synaptic Pointing Device driver from Toshiba drivers page?

I hope anything I said really helps you.
Have a great day!

Hello, im dealing with a friends Toshiba Satellite laptop. The computers mousepad will not work. The keyboard will npt respond to 80% of the keys including the Enter or Arrow pad. At first I thought it might've been a corrupted windows installation but then accessing the Bios menu (F2 key worked) I was unable to input any other keyboard commands. I popped an Ubuntu CD and am having similar issues. I've came to the conclusion that components would have to be replaced.

any input would be appreciated!

Should I advise my friend that a replacement keyboard would have to be ordered? What steps should I approach next? Thank you in advance!

I think I would first try to go to the Toshiba website, look up the particular laptop and download updated drivers. It could be a driver issue and i would try that before spending money on new parts.

I have an older Satellite 1110. It is a dual boot machine with linux and windows XP. The boot manager is grub.
When I allow the machine to boot into the default OS without touching the keypad at the grub stage, about 70% of the time when the machine finishes booting both the keypad and mousepad will be non-functional. On the other hand if I use the up and down arrows at grub stage, 100% of the time both keypad and mousepad work correctly when the machine finishes booting.

I'm trying to understand why this would be so. It does not seem to relate to the OS involved, just the physical manipulation of the keypad. Is this a bad connection, failing chip, bios or other software issue?

Answer:Unresponsive keypad/mousepad on Satellite 1110

Are you sure that the touchpad is enabled?
Check it using the Fn + F9 key combination. If this combination would not function, try to find the on/off functionality in the control panel -> mouse
By the way; did you test if the touchpad driver reinstallation would help to solve this?

Hey guys,

I bought a Satellite P50 the other day and I noticed something annoying pretty fast.

Whenever I am using the keyboard the touchpad stops working. Now I understand it probably does this so that people don't accidentally touch the pad while typing, but as this makes playing video games (which use wasd to move) quite difficult, I really want to disable this feature.

I've tried updating to latest drivers and going to Mouse Properties and Device settings and looking in the properties but I can't seem to find what I need to disable.

I've tried searching on the web but doing the above is all I really got.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite P50 - Annoying Synaptics Mousepad issue

>Whenever I am using the keyboard the touchpad stops working

You mean while typing?

There is a option called ?Hide pointer while typing?
In my case I could enable and disable this option in:
Control panel -> mouse -> pointer options -> ?Hide pointer while typing?

There is also another option called ?Disable internal pointing device (touchpad) when external USB pointing device (USB mouse) is attached?

If this option is checked, the touchpad would not work if you would use the USB mouse.
This can be found in:
Control panel -> mouse -> device settings

Ok, first of all. Excuse me for my poor english and so on.

Now to my problem; I rebooted my Satellite A200 a few days ago and when it powered up and the Vista log-in screen showed the keybord and mousepad wouldnt react. I figure its a driver-related problem beause both the keyboard and the mousepad works fine in BIOS and setup-screen.
The problem is that Windows wont troubleshoot or install new drivers.

What to do?

Answer:Keyboard and mousepad stopped working on Satellite A200

You wrote, that Windows wont troubleshoot or install new drivers.
What you do mean exactly and do you get an error?
Can you explain this please?

And it would be interesting that you have the problem with external, internal or both input devices.

In worst case you should reinstall Windows with the recovery disk.

Having recently set up a new Satellite C660-1ZM running Windows 7 64bit (upgraded from Home Premium to Ultimate) for a friend, the mousepad and USB ports have suddenly stopped working. The drivers show an exclamation mark against them and the error is "code 52" which is related to driver signing. Windows doesn't seem to recognise the driver signatures for the published drivers that came on the machine's pre-installed disc, so the devices don't work. I've updated the drivers (Intel chipset [which includes USB]; Synaptics touchpad) to the latest ones publised on the Toshiba web site - and we have the same problem.

Pressing F8 on boot allows you to select "disable checking of driver signing" in the WIndows 7 boot options, which then enables the drivers and all is well, until you reboot - at which point you have to hit F8 again.

I think that one of the many recent Windows updates has somehow messed things up, but we can't easily prove that. The machine worked fine for a week or so, then the mousepad suddenly quit working around 8th August 2012.

1) Are there valid signed drivers that pass whatever checks Microsoft impose on driver signing, including whatever checks they've potentially just imposed via some recently inflicted update?

2) Does anyone know exactly how to disable the checking of driver signing permanently, so that a reboot will not require the F8 keypress and so on?

Answer:Satellite C660-1ZM Win 7 64bit: mousepad and USB - "code 52" driver error

Did you receive the error that windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device? Usually this means the error code 52
Since the USB drivers are parts of the Windows OS, I don?t think that this could be an signature issue? I think some files are damaged.

Try to uninstalling/reinstalling the driver and deleting the device and it?s drivers from device manager before reinstalling.
Usually this should help, if not, well try to repair the system.

Power up the unit and press F8. Then choose Repair my Computer.
Now choose the first option which would help to repair the system.

I have just installed Windows 7 onto my laptop which is around a year old now but the mouse pad and the keyboard do not work. No lights on the caps lock keys or anything, the only way to get them to work is to press the power button so that the laptop goes into sleep and then press it again to wake it up, this then wakes up the keyboard but the mouse pad still does not work.

I can plug a USB mouse in and this works but I would prefer if the touchpad and the keyboard would just work in the first place!! However if I then restart the computer using the keyboard the touchpad then suddenly works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a toshiba satellite 220CS/1.4GB model no. PA1240EYV-NLDI

Later I get a separate 6x cd drive model no. XM-1402B, Ver. No. 002, ROM Ver. KF60118.
This drive has is own case and I can connect it aside to the laptop
I can remove the drive out his case, but it is not possible to change the cd drive with the diskette station.
This cd drive don?t fits into the space of the diskette station.
When I connect the drive with his little cable to the laptop, and I tell the BIOS to boot from CD then I hear the cd spinning an I see the LED burn for a short while.
But he doesn?t boot.
I tried to use the thing as a non boot device.
The OS on the laptop is Win95 (I want to change that)
I modified config.sys and also autoexec.bat.
I used for this the original drivers for the cd drive (downloaded from the internet).
But the system don?t sees the cd drive.

The BIOS said that it is possible to boot from CD, but why not my system?

Who can help me with this problem

I've got a Satellite Pro with an expunged warranty and I'm still content with the speed of my CPU. Yet a year from now I know I won't be and I'm foreseeing a CPU upgrade (after RAM and HDD upgrade) at that time. Some may say 'sell & buy new', but that approach will be much more expensive since nobody wants to buy an outdated laptop yet the new compatible spare parts will become much cheaper...

Having said that & having read a lot of 'IMPOSSIBLE' threads within this forum, I'm almost certain of this kind of upgrade because my laptop has bigger brothers with the CPU I'd like to upgrade. Also there are many off-market 'service manual' sellers where I can learn exactly what to do or what not to do. I'm also not inexperienced since I've dealt with many desktop PC repairs & etc. of mine & my friends...

Having told all these I wonder if it's STILL IMPOSSIBLE to upgrade a CPU within my laptop? I know the risks but I didn't expect that it would be much more difficult from desktop PC examples. I don't think CPU incompatibility (pin, heat etc,) will be an issue since it has bro's as I said & I also manually checked all other requirements such as heat dissipation, chipset compat. & etc...

Yet I've read some things about 'microcode' and BIOS incompatibility. Are these the same thing? Doesn't having the new CPU in its series ensure BIOS compat.?

That's all from me. Any comments and suggestions are welcome as long as they came with an explanation. ... Read more

Answer:CPU Upgrade on Satellite Pro series - Impossible?!?

>I know the risks but I didn't expect that it would be much more difficult from desktop PC examples.
Sure the CPU upgrade is much trickier as a CPU upgrade on the desktop PC.

If you want to upgrade the CPU you have to know...

- how to disassemble the notebook and to remove all the covers and parts without to damage other notebook parts
- if the CPU is not soldered on the motherboard and can be removed on a simply way
- if the BIOS can handle the new CPU and if the fan table which stored in the BIOS would provide the compatible settings to cool the CPU correctly.
- if the chipset is compatible and supports the new CPU
- if the microcode must be updated (only by an ASP) because the wrong DMI info will not allow the CPU to run with full performance.
- if the notebook will run stable after the CPU upgrade because the new stronger CPU produce more heat.

So as you see the upgrade is not easy and mostly not possible.

Hi all,

I have a Satellite M40-244 and the original DVD drive is defective. So I've changed the drive with one which is exactly the same (same make, same manufacturing date).

Under Windows, the new drive is recognised and working perfectly. However, when I try to boot on CD, I am not able to do so. I've correctly changed the boot sequence in the bios, I've tried every possible combination without success.

One thing which I remember is that when I tried to boot from the defective driver, I had the message "CD not bootable" (the CD tested is really bootable and tested on other computers)

Any idea someone, as I desperately need to install a new OS. :-(

Answer:Satellite M40-244 - Impossible to boot from CD after driver change

I doubt that you can?t boot from CD if your drive works properly in Windows...
Can you try another bootable disk, for example Toshiba recovery disk or Microsoft disk, please?

Alternative try loading the default settings in BIOS.

Good luck! :)

I have a Toshiba A200-1fl, two days ago I installed Windows 7-64 bits.Just after the installation Windows installed the drivers for ATI Mobility Radeon HD2400 (but the version (Microsoft WDDM 1.1), after that Windows update installed the version from ATI from 18/08/2009 (old).

So, i went to ATI webpage, I downloaded the last catalyst suite but it didnt work "Problem with your software/hardware" (the drivers were for Windows 7-64), the think is that in the webpage of ATI says:

+"The following notebooks are not supported in this release:+
+Toshiba notebooks (please check with your notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)+
+Sony VAIO notebooks (please check with your notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)+
+Panasonic notebooks (please check with your notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)"+

So, I went to TOSHIBA webpage, but the only drivers for Windows-7-64 are really old (version 8.432).
I tried to install going to Device Manager--Display Driver--Update, and put the file name from the ATI folder, but Microsoft says: This drivers is already up-to-date.

The only ATI suite that works is the 9.9, the rest just install me the Install Manager and some other components but not the display/graphic drivers.

So, what I have to do to update my drivers? Why I cant from the ones from ATI?

Thank you very much!

Windows 7-64, Ati obility Radeon HD2400, 2gb RAM.

Answer:Satellite A200-1fl - Impossible to update Drivers from ATI

You should use only the Toshiba pretested driver because they are modified from original having the overheating protection. if you try to install such drivers, they can damage your graphic card. I remember, there was a user playing with such drivers that leaded to graphic card damage.

First of all why are there so many BIOS updates in a short time? I get my brand new L40-17S (20/05/08) with the BIOS 1.70, the Tempro software from Toshiba give me the warning to update it to 1.80 that works fine, after a few day's a new warning update it to 1.90 and now 2.00 in June! The problem is that I can't update anymore above 1.80, when I click on the winflash.exe only a short screen and then nothing.

Operating system Windows Vista 32 without SP1

I really want to have the latest BIOS before I install SP1.

Answer:It is impossible to update the latest BIOS for Satellite L40-17S

Who knows? seems Toshiba releases the drivers and BIOS like the Microsoft own Windows patches? do you known a ?Microsoft patch day?? ;)
I think it?s something similar?

Another question;
Is there something wrong with your notebook?
If not, so why a BIOS update?

I?ve got a notebook which is about 3 years old and there are newest BIOS updates for my notebook but I have never done a BIOS update.
It?s not necessary because the machine runs troublefree

My Toshiba Satellite U400 wasn't working well at all (very slow) because of an old and infested installation of Windos Vista. I formatted with a live-cd of GParted, in order to install a new version of Windows.

But since I formatted it, I can't even boot on a CD (I checked of course the priority boot option in the BIOS)... I tried with others live-cd (linux ones) to check if the problem was from my CD and not my computer... Well, it seems that it comes from my computer.

After long hours of searching, I found out that there was a restoration partition set by Toshiba, and I probably erased it, but I don't see how it could affect the boot options.

Any suggestions ? I'm starting to be desesperate

Have a good day,

I get this message :
Ther recovery medium creation is impossible!
Could not find HDD recovery folder on second drive of the first hard disk. There is no valid Hdd recovery environment on this computer

I have already mate the recovery media disks a long time ago but now when i press f8 on start-up - go to repair computer- when i choose recovery to the original factory settings it says that i can't

Answer:Recovery medium creation is impossible on Satellite L650-116

>Ther recovery medium creation is impossible!

It looks like the folder with the files has not been found and therefore this is the reason why the recovery disk cannot be created.
I think there is no much to do? but if you have created the disk in the past, then you can use it once again to restore the OS.
Otherwise you need to order the disk:

Hi all,

I have a brand new Satellite M300-18P, pre installed with Vista 32bit. I would like to make rescue disks using the pre-installed Toshiba utility. Every time I try to burn a disk, the process stops halfway saying (and I have to translate this bit): "a problem has occurred in the power calibration area". code OEO1B5-26-00037304.

The program suggests the DVD-disk might be faulty, and urges to try another disk. After 3 disks, I do not believe this is the cause. I used DVD+r, normally compatible with the driver.
I want the recue disks since I want to format the hard disks and make a clean UBUNTU install. Might I decide not to use Ubuntu any longer, then I would like to install the original software back on the M300.

Can anybody help? Thank you. Kurt

Answer:Impossible to make recovery disks with my Satellite M300

Hello Kurt

I recommend you to use DVD-R media and just high quality product. Friends U400 is a little bit ?sensitive? with medias but I have used TDK DVD-R and it worked perfectly.

The built-in RAM module (512MB) of my Satellite is having problems (according to memtest86) and the machine has been freezing all the time. It's under warranty, so I took it back to the shop I bought it from.

They told me that they need to send the machine to Toshiba HQ because it will probably take a new mainboard to correct the issue, since the DIMM is attached permanently to the board and cannot be changed like any regular add-on DIMM.

Is this true? Is the 512MB RAM the machine comes with, physically inseperable from the mainboard?

Answer:Satellite A100-294: Impossible to change built-in RAM module?

As far as I know the Satellite A100-294 doses not support any internal memory!
The unit uses simply DDR2-533 memory modules which are removable.
The memory slot is placed at the bottom of the unit and it?s easily accessible.

But maybe the head technicians would like to take a look at this mainboard and therefore the ASP has had to send this notebook to the Toshiba HQ

Toshiba is really the best notebook I saw! I had to change my HD because of a hardware failure (disk dead); before this I made a "recovery disk" from Toshiba system. I thought I would have just to boot from this DVD to reinstall all. BIG ERROR!

So I booted fro this DVD, process goes on (about one hour, already a great delay!), BUT a few drivers, especially the wireless one, cannot be installed! I get a message that "Drivers must be signed and so cannot be installed", and am kindly invited to get the "right drivers"!

On the website Toshiba there is no "right driver", I got those that are supposed to be for me, but always receive the same Windows message.

So what to do?!! This "recovery disk" does not even recover the correct drivers? What a great joke !!!! And of course the computer was sold without any DVD!

OS: Win 7, 64 bits "home", with legal license.

Thanks if you can help

Answer:Satellite U500 - Drivers not "signed": impossible to install

I add that the driver is a "WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150"

I have a Satellite U300 psu30a, just got it.
It had the vista business on and I wanted to put a linux partition on it... Made the partitions, formated it. And when I used the recovery cds, it just kept on coming to XP, intead of vista.

Tried all different options, including the recovery partion on th hd and always ends up on the xp.
I gave up on the linux, now I just want the vista back... What do I do???

Thank you!

Answer:Upgrading back to Vista seems impossible on Satellite U300

if you really want back to vista then you must format the WHOLE harddrive and cleanup the MBR (master boot record) which stores the boot information from all installed operating systems.
The only way to do this is to grab a linux live CD (which must not be installed on the HDD, but I suppose you that) and remove all partitions/format the whole disk. Don?t forget to delete the MBR, it?s important.

Then just perform your recovery as always and it should work.

In am trying to create recovery disks for my Satellite L755D-10U via toshiba bulletin board, but every time i click on the create recovery media icon, i get an alert that says:

the recovery medium creation is impossible!

Could not find HDD Recovery folder on second drive of the first hard disk. There is no valid HDD Recovery Envirenment on this computer.

My best friend has the exact same laptop as me, we bought them at the same time (sad, i know) but his has made the disks fine. i am not doing anything different, can anyone help me, does anyone know why mine is doing this?!?!

thanks in advance

Answer:Recovery Medium Creation Impossible on my Satellite L755D

Fact is that Toshiba recovery creation utility has no access to recovery image saved on HDD.
Unfortunately nobody here can say why.

I don?t know what have you done with your notebook but I presume you have changed partitions structure or maybe somehow deleted HDD recovery image.

If your friend has absolutely the same notebook (The same part number (PSK4YE) than he can create this recovery disc for you and you can use it on your notebook. If not than you have a problem.

Please send some feedback.

It used to be possible to record audio streams from the net with audacity.
After an update to Windows 7 and updates to the drivers this is no longer possible. The sound mixer has disappeared. Of course, I can still record the stream off the card, but only at a very very low quality.

This is a Toshiba and Sound Card issue. I can still record on my other computer with another soundcard. As I need to record for work, this is a serious issue for me and there should be warnings when customers are updating.

Is there any way around this? Are there fixes?

Answer:Satellite U400 PSU44E: Recording impossible with Conexant Smartaudio 221

Before we start a long discussion, can you please post the exact model number of your notebook?

If you have this problem only with new sound driver you should revert to previous driver version? ;)

I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite L855D-10J. Since a Windows update, the screen brightness is adjusting automatically, depending on the colours shown on the screen.

I cannot turn this off - I already went to the energy and power savings options and turned off the adaptive brightness, but that didn't change a thing. I also downloaded the latest driver of my graphic card (a8-4500m), and checked at the amd catalyst control center if there are any settings for this - nothing.

What can I do?

Answer:Satellite L855D-10J - Auto adjusted brightness impossible to turn off

The similar theme was already discussed in this thread:

But this happened only in battery mode (when AC adaptor was disconnected)

In your case, does this happen only in battery mode or also when AC adaptor is connected?

Hi all.

I have a Satellite A105 S361. I assume I had the BIOS software 1.70,
because there are two possible updates for it in the Toshiba download website.

So, I recently updated my BIOS to v2.0. It actually warns that after the update
it would be impossible to go back to v1.70, but I never thought this could cause

After the update, now I'm unable to boot from the DVD-ROM. I've tried
changing the priority boot in the bios, pressing "C" (stands for CD)
in the boot up, also pressing F12 to bring the boot up list. Also
I've tried with my recovery cd, and with about 5 linux cds bootables.
None of this was succesful and so I remember the BIOS update
and eliminating all possiblities, this is what can be causing the problem.

So I'd greatly appreciate some hep with this issue to make it possible
to boot from the DVD ROM.

Best regards.

Answer:Satellite A105-S361 - Updated Bios make impossible reboot from DVD

As far as I know this notebook series was designed for the US market and therefore you should use the BIOS from the Toshiba US page.
I hope you did it and used right BIOS. Wrong or not compatible BIOS can make some troubles!

However, fact is that it?s not possible to reverse the BIOS to the early version on the simply way. In your case only an ASP technician could help you but I wonder how the BIOS update would affects the booting from the CD/DVD drive. IF the CD/DVD drive was recognized and then an booting from CD or DVD should be possible.

Did you try to set the BISO to the default settings? Check this!
Bur if it doesn?t help then contact the ASP in your country!

Toshiba Satellite P100-286

Hello guys!

Can anyone help to resolve my problem? From some time I'm not able to change/enter my, for example: Screen Saver in Personalisation in Control Panel. I can only use 2 out of 7 options/links available in "Personalisation". Anyone could help me, PLEASE?

"Personalisation" is not the only one of all icons which I can't entered. There are a few more such as: Keyboard, Mail, Regional and Language Options etc. For me looks like the links to each of them don't work !!! :(

I don't want to go through reinstalling Windows Vista so any help to resolve this issue will be greatly appreciate !!!

Many thanks!

Krzysztof (Chris)

PS. One more thing I've tried to restore my system to previous point but I'm not able to do it.

Answer:Satellite P100-286: Impossible to change options 'Personalization' in Control Panel

This is very strange? believe me, it?s not easy to say why it happened and therefore we have to investigate a little bit?
Did you install any third party applications on your notebook which could have a bad influence on the OS???
Did you change the user account rights or something like that???
How about Antivirus applications??? Do you always update this software??? Maybe it?s some kind of virus?

It's impossible for me to find a good working graphics driver ?!!

Actuelly I have installed the 195.81 from laptopvideo2go, but there are some problems, like yellow lines at the screen when looking pictures, or problems with 3D-programs like sketchup ......

Has anybody the same problem?

with kind regards

Answer:Satellite X200-21W: Win7/64x: impossible to find working graphic driver

I?m not wondering about these lines on your notebook screen because you are using display driver from latptopvideo2go? I also don?t have good experience with these drivers like overheating. So at the moment I?m only using Toshiba display driver?

Have you tried this driver? The Toshiba website shows for Vista 64bit a driver that should work on Windows 7 too.
Check this!!!

I have a Satellite U400 (few years old), and I never created the recovery DVD.
Now I want to do it, but for some reasons, when I launch Toshiba recovery disc creator, nothing happens...
The partition with the recovery files is there, as well as the folder HDDRecovery. I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Satellite U400 Impossible to create recovery DVD with Recovery disc creator

>I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?
No. if you didn?t change partitions structure this should not be the problem.

Question is: does Toshiba recovery disc creator start or not? If you cannot star this tool it has nothing to do with recovery files.
Can you find this file - C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator\TRORDCLauncher.exe ?

I got a wireless mouse and so, using F5 disabled the touchpad. Now I can't get it to work again. I was told, by the support robot/person here, to turn the laptop off and then to remove the battery and AC adapter before pressing and holding the power button on the laptop for 10 seconds. Then I should replace the AC adapter, leaving the battery out, before turning the machine on and then immediately start tapping the F2 key. This will take me into BIOS. Once there and the BIOS menu has loaded, tap the F9 key and then press Enter. This will reset BIOS to the default settings. To exit the BIOS, tap the F10 key and then press Enter. This will restart the laptop.

The trouble is I cannot do any of this as the battery is does not seem to be removable, by the customer at least, on this product.
Had I been able to achieve this and found the cure not to have happened that I should reinstall the touchpad driver.

As I cannot do what is advised, in correct sequence, I am at a loss as to just what I should do. HELP PLEASE.

Answer:Touchpad on Satelite C70D-12U not working

You dont need to remove the battery, you can do a hard reset by holding down the power button for 20 seconds.

Does the touchpad work in the BIOS?
If no, there may be a hardware problem.
If yes, uninstall the touchpad driver in Control Panel, then let Windows Update install the new driver.
