Satellite C660 won't boot to disc or USB

Question: Satellite C660 won't boot to disc or USB

My Toshiba Satellite C660-DSC0QE, running BIOS version 1.80, won't boot into Windows any more - it just goes to the dreaded black screen with white cursor.

I've tried a Win 7 system recovery disc, a USB stick with Kaspersky recovery software on it, and even a full Win 7 installation disc, and it won't boot to any of them.

The boot order is set correctly, the devices (optical drive or USB port) do get read, but they never actually boot into them - there's either an obscure error message or it acts like they weren't there at all.

The obvious answer from these forums seems to be to turn off secure boot mode and to then switch the boot mode from UEFI to CSM. Easier said than done - those menu options don't exist at all in my BIOS/CMOS screens.

Finally, I don't see a way in the instructions to get a BIOS update to happen without being in Windows on the PC already - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9502M10000R01.htm I'm assuming BIOS version 2.00 would have these options.

Any help gratefully accepted!

Preferred Solution: Satellite C660 won't boot to disc or USB

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite C660 won't boot to disc or USB

Hi

I assume you?ve got an white, blinking cursor in the left upper corner.
Is this correct?

Such symptoms appear in case the system cannot find a bootable device (HDD) or in case of memory (RAM module) problems.

First of all you said that you don?t have UEFI / CSM boot mode in the BIOS settings.
So I?m asking you what boot mode settings do appear in BIOS exactly?
Did you search for these settings in the right area?
Usually you should have in BIOS an area (tab) called ?security?.
In most cases there you will find secure boot option but the Satellite C660 does not support such option because it?s too old.
But boot mode (UEFI /CSM) should be available in BIOS. Check the BIOS area ?System settings?

Anyway, as I said above; it could be also an memory issue therefore I would recommend you to check if memory is OK.

I need some help for my sons laptop which is the Satellite Pro C660-1LR.

The hard drive in this laptop completely died, i did not create a recovery disc for this laptops system.
I have purchased a new hard drive which is installed..however as you have guessed i have no access to reinstalling a OS, this laptop runs on windows 7.

I am not really tech savvy so if anyone can advise me please make explain in idiot proof format!! I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-1LR - New HDD but no recovery disc

> I am trying to avoid having to purchase anything to costly.
Problem is that you don't have many options about that.
If you want to have ?factory settings? again you need recovery installation disc. You can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx Of course it is not for free but, in my opinion, definitely the best solution.

You can buy Microsoft installation disc and install own version. You must buy valid licence for it.
In this case you must install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities additionally one by one.

Just in case that you can get this Microsoft installation and licence for free you can save some money.

Believe me the best solution is original recovery disc order.

I bought a couple of days a go a new Satellite C660-121. Today I proceeded to make the recovery discs but it fails verifying the first DVD disc.
The error I get is this
http://img231.imageshack.us/i/failedcopy.png/

E:\ is the name of the DVD drive. I use Verbatim DVD-R media, I have the laptop on power supply during the burning process and I tried twice with two different discs and got the same result. How can I fix this problem?

Answer:Satellite C660-121 can't verify the recovery disc

Hello Voger

I have created numerous recovery DVD on several Toshiba notebooks and have never noticed something like this. I have used DVD-R discs only and brands were Verbatim or TDK.

Unfortunately I cannot give you answer what does this message means but you must try to repeat DVD creation. If possible try with TDK.
If the same happen again I recommend you to recovery your notebook using HDD recovery option and try to create recovery discs again.

Sorry but I don?t see any other possibility at the moment.

I cannot create a recovery disc using Toshiba image. DVDs are rejected as blank when they are empty. DVD R/W burns OK with Microsoft and Nero software. How do I get a fix for this problem? TIA garrym

Answer:Re: Satellite C660-10T Problem creating recovery disc

Toshiba recovery disc can be created with preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery media creator tool? ONLY.
So I don?t understand why you use Microsoft and Nero software.

Have you checked User?s manuals document and chapter about recovery media creation?

For recovery DVD creation I recommend you to use DVD-R empty medias only.

Hi

I?ve lost the disk which u restore with. Is there any other way to restore it.

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - lost restoring disc

Toshiba notebooks can be restored to ?factory settings? on two ways:
1- Using Toshiba recovery DVD
2- HDD recovery installation as described on - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

If none of these ways work for you, you must order new recovery disc on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

If you have more questions you are welcome.

hi all

hope someone can help me with this.

I'm trying to put a new hard drive in a C660 but cannot get to the 'boot from cd' option no matter what i do.

If i press F2 i get the windows boot manager with one option.
Windows 7

If i go to F8 i get Advanced boot options.
Safe mode ect. No CD option

F12 takes me to Windows error recovery with 2 options
Launch setup repair ( recommended )
Start windows normally

Also tried 0 on powerup, that just gives F2 and F12 options.

Can anyone tell me how to get to boot from the cd?

many thanks

Answer:Satellite C660 -cannot boot from ODD

Hi.

Try to get hold of an external cd drive and set your bios to start from usb device or usb cd rom. You can also copy your installation disc to a bootable flash drive.

Hope it helps.

My friends nephew has a C660 which when you switch on shows the Toshiba splash screen with a panel at the bottom showing the following "Press F2 for start up,Press F12 for boot options menu. How can you set it to be able to boot up directly from the HDD without having to press F12 and selecting the Hard disc option?

Answer:Satellite C660-17J won't boot

If everything is OK you must not do this and notebook starts automatically. Enter BIOS settings, set it to default settings and try to start notebook again.
Is original OS preinstalled on this machine? I mean OS version that you got with it (WIN7 64BIT HOME PREMIUM).

Hello everybody.
I have a laptop (model in title) that is running into a strange issue. It has happened two days ago: I was trying to turn it on and while I were onto win7 login screen, it suddenly turn off. Apart that fact, that of course is not related to what I'm asking here, when I tried to turn it on again, a white-blinking-dash appears into top-left corner of the screen.

First thing I had in mind: no bootable HDD; basically an error into MBR o something like this?

My first try was to access recovery partition (by pressing F8) but nothing happens. So I've tried also with every possible F{1,2,3,...,12} key but without success. Strange, I've never formatted my laptop, toshiba didn't mount a recovery partition for that model?
Ok, nevermind, as I'm an IT guy and I'm quite skilled, my second try was to create a bootable USB stick with some tool (like partition manager, gparted and so on...) and to boot the utility from there just to check and fix errors (if there are).

With my big surprise, this laptop seems not to be able to boot from USB!

What I've tried:

- Create a stick either with MBR for BIOS and UEFI (FAT32, NTFS)
- Create a stick either with GPT for UEFI (FAT32, NTFS)
- Switch BOOT order in BIOS
- Pressed F12 to select manually USB to boot
- Check for safe mode (that BIOS [1.40] seems not to have that possibility)
- Change to CMS (that BIOS seems not to have that possibility)

So I'm stuck here, wondering why this laptop can't make a normal boo... Read more

I bought 2 x 4Gb memory modules to upgrade the memory to 8Gb.
With 8Gb installed the laptop won't boot but it will boot with 6Gb installed.
Both the 4Gb modules work in the 6Gb configuration and the BOIS is 1.8.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite C660-108 does not boot up with 8GB RAM

Hi

According to the user manual, this notebook can be upgraded up to 8GB RAM.

So you should be able to use the 2x 4GB RAM modules?

I think both modules are not compatible to each other and therefore the notebook cannot boot up.

You should test the notebook using other modules.

the story goes...
bought a c660 last october 2011 and it failed and was replaced in april 2012 this year.
it now won't boot into windows - it goes as far as the windows logo but after a period, shuts off and retries.
won't go in safe mode - it stops at the same place every time and does nothing until the power button is pressed.

questions -

hardware or software related?
will toshiba give a damn or will they say "out of warranty"?

in my mind toshiba should offer a replacement as a month out of warranty is just not good enough

Answer:Satellite C660 won't boot

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there.
My advice: if you don?t have some important data saved on HDD set BIOS to default settings and install OS again using recovery DVD (I hope you have created it).

Please do this and check if Windows starts properly.

I cannot say anything about warranty. You must clarify this with Toshiba service provider.

I don't know how but my Grandson has seriously broken his Satellite C660-2EV

Boot from HDD - Boot Mgr not found

Boot to recovery partition - Boot Mgr not found.

Boot from a (Generic) Windows 7 install disk - boots, starts to install, finds it has not got a required driver (but doesn't tell me what it is). Allows me to access drives C:, D:, E: and X:

Boot from Toshiba recovery DVD. White bar gets around 25% across screen then stops with "You have removed USB media during install" (or something like that, laptop currently in pieces).

Removed and re-seated memory and DVD drive. Removed HDD, plugged into my PC through USB adaptor and scanned the two visible partitions (300Gb each) at bad sector level. No problems.

Help! I'm out of options.

Laptop must be (basically) functional as it will boot from (non-Toshiba) DVD.

HDD seems OK when checked externally and from (Non-Toshiba) boot

What's left?

Answer:Satellite C660-2EV doesn't boot - Boot Mgr not found

All you have done is right and I would make the same tests.

Set BIOS to default settings and test it with another HDD, if you can obtain one for testing purposes.
I cannot say for sure but somehow I feel HDD is the troublemaker.
Try to install original recovery DVD on new HDD.

Hi guys,

after a few solid days of frustration here I am.

I'm working on a friends Satellite C660-2EL
It was stuck in the endless Win 7 boot loop and would not be recovered by any means.

So I decided a format was the way to go.
After the format using partition magic everything was going smoothly.
I reinstalled Win 7 and the setup was also going fine. Once the setup was completed and it did a restart I decided to pop into the BIOS and amend the boot order as I had set it to CD drive first. So after changing the settings then saving and exiting the damn thing refuses to boot at all now, not from CD HD or anything else.

The toshiba screen flashes up but when I hit F2 now it just freezes saying entering setup.
When I try to hit F12 the screen goes back to the blinking curser.
If I press nothing I get the blank screen with the curser.

I saw a video on you tube for resetting the CMOS, I've tried this with no luck.

Any ideas guys?

Answer:Satellite C660-2EL wont boot

Hi

You mean you got an blinking cursor in the left upper corner and the unit does not boot from CD nor from HDD?
The blinking cursor is mostly a sign of HDD malfunction.

I recommend checking the HDD using an tool (freeware) called Drive Fitness Test.
This tool creates an bootable disk which scans the HDD for malfunctions.

If the HDD is fault, so you need to replace it?

Hi,

I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite C660-195 with Windows 7 pre-installed.

This morning I have switched it on and it came up with a black box with x:windows\system32\drvload.exe in it. This box then disappeared and Startup Repair kicked in. It then told me Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. The advice was to remove any device which had been recently attached to the laptop (such as a webcam or music device) but I have not installed any hardware or devices. I clicked finish and it shut down the laptop.

I switched it on again and the same thing happened (again and again!)

One forum suggests trying the following: Click the 'view advanced options for system recovery and support' link which asks me to choose my keyboard configuration but then when I do & click next it tells me "You must log in to access system recovery options" I am never given the option to log in!!

When accessing the Advanced Startup options using F8 I am still unable to solve this problem. The same thing (above) happens when I try to start in all Safe modes, Last Known Good Configuration (advanced), Debugging mode, Start Windows normally etc. I just don't understand it.

Upon searching other forums they have suggested holding down zero whilst switching on and then chosing Windows 7 to restore the laptop to its factory settings but the same thing happens - it just shows the black screen with x:windows\system32\drvload.exe then launched Star... Read more

Hi guys I wonder if anyone could help please.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-2DR laptop which seems to be faulty (just out of warranty).
Everything worked fine until we came to switch it on one morning and found the screen remains off (black screen). There is no output through the VGA as I have tested it on an external monitor.

The CPU fan spins for a couple of seconds and then switches off.
There is no hard drive read/write sound either. The power LED remains lit. I have removed the hard drive to access the data on another system which worked fortunately

. I have also removed the RAM, battery and optical drive but there is still no output on the screen.

Does it sound like a faulty motherboard?
The laptop appears to be in excellent condition.

Is there anything else I can try please? I would be very grateful for any advice.

Rich

Answer:Satellite Pro C660 does not boot no screen

Yes, this sounds like faulty motherboard or an part of motherboard like RAM or CPU.
You said you have already removed the RAM but did you use an good tested RAM module?

Theoretically it could be just an RAM problem but in worst case you will need to replace the motherboard and I think this would be really expensive repair.

So when you attempt to boot the laptop, you're met with the same plain black screen, and a flashing grey underscore - after which you may get a glimpse of the normal Toshiba boot screen.
This is only a glimpse, however, and the laptop quickly flicks back to the black screen then to the boot menu.
There had been a screen about boot failure but not in recent attempt at reboots. It's just gone straight to the boot menu.
Before this happened, my laptop was functioning relatively normally, barring that it was freezing up - the reason I switched it off in the first place. When I tried to reboot, all of this happened.

The HDD/SSD is suddenly missing too? (where there had been something there before and I'd tried to boot it from that and the CD/DVD (TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C) is still there though I can't get the laptop to boot from this either.

Basically, I'm stumped. My technical abilities don't really extend beyond basic system restores and I've no idea what's happening.

Answer:Boot Failure - Satellite C660

Not too long after posting this, laptop began to boot, though still isn't working.

Now stuck in a loop.
Two option given are "Start windows normally" and, the suggested option "Launch Windows repair"

However, this leads to it being effectively stuck on a plain screen, with seemingly little "repair" activity going on. Starting windows normally makes the laptop crash, and sends it back to the original menu.

I've attempted to restart this is safe mode, however, this lead to the laptop briefly flashing the blue screen of death, then reverting back to the launch menu.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Had this laptop for just under 2 months, was running really slow so i backed up my data and did a factory reset, during the reset the machine reboots itself multiple times. after about 6 reboots all i got was a black screen with a cursor (ctrl+alt+delete doesnt work), the cursor moves but nothing else happens, i assume something went wrong with the recovery so i though id try it again, only to find the F8 menu when booting up no longer lists repair computer. Ive tried booting off a CD but when i hold down '0' and press F12 when prompted nothing happens, i just return to the windows mem test screen.

Also when trying to enter the bios, i press F2 wehn prompted and the message changes to 'HDD Recovery' very quickly then continues on to windows mem test screen.
So at the moment im a bit stuck, I tried removing power and battery over night but that didnt help either.

Any suggestions how to get this working again?

Answer:Satellite PRO C660-1LR Boot problem

Hi

You mean you cannot access the BIOS?
To access the BIOS you have to press F2 immediately after the power button has been pressed. You can press F2 several times in the row to ensure that this has functioned.

>Ive tried booting off a CD but when i hold down '0' and press F12 when prompted nothing happens, i just return to the windows mem test screen.

In order to boot from Recovery disk just press F12 (don?t press 0 button). This should enable the boot menu on the screen. Then you could choose the CD/DVD drive as booting source?

But all this sounds a little bit like a hardware problem; I think about memory or HDD issue? so maybe these both parts should be checked too.

There is a nice tool called Drive Fitness Test which allows you to test the HDD for some errors?

Answer:Satellite c660 shutdowns after boot (5 min or so)

Hi

I think the notebook shuts down because of the high temperature.
This would happen to prevent the hardware parts from damage.

Did you clean the cooling vents in the past?
Do this using an compressed air spray? this is good tool to get the dust removed.

I did it many times?it helps to keep the good air circulation.

Hi,

I have a Satellite C660-117 laptop, and recently I've been having issues with the power with it. I've found that it is temperamental when it comes to charging, and recently I've had it sat in one place as I knew it would charge like that, but decided to transport the laptop elsewhere and since not been able to charge/power it since the battery ran dry. I haven't tried plugging it back in where I originally had it (and it's not really suitable to have it sat in one place, mainly because it's partially in the way of a desktop system).

I have tried various things, taking battery and AC adaptor out, leaving it for a while, then plugging them back in, and also taking them out, pressing the power button for thirty seconds and plugging it back in, but the problem appears to be between the AC adaptor and the laptop itself (No power goes to the laptop from the mains). I have also tried using another AC adaptor from another laptop, but this hasn't worked either.

Was wondering if there was any other option I could try out, or whether I'm stuck with having to purchase another laptop, as it's waaaaaaaaaaaay out of warranty. I would rather not go for this option, nor can really afford to send it off for a while to be repaired due to the time it would likely take.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite C660-117 - Won't boot, won't charge

If notebook cannot run with AC power supply only there is some problem with power supply electronic on the mainboard.
Sorry but with such issues you need professional help. Problem is that repair will be pretty expensive.
So maybe the best solution for you is to sell it on ebay because many hardware parts can be used for replacement and buy new notebook.

For the past month my Satellite C660 intermittently refuses to boot. Frequency of failure appears to be increasing.

The drive light comes on, the fan runs for 5 seconds (sometimes 15seconds with a speed increase at the end) and then the machine shuts down.

No bios display.
This happens with battery only, PSU only or both connected. With HDD in or out, with or without ram.

Bios has been reset and updated and the bios battery replaced.
No loose connections internally.

PSU produces 19.3V DC.
No obvious pattern as to when it will boot, but when it does W7 runs fine.

Would be grateful for any input.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say for sure where the problem is but it must be something with the mainboard. One thing would be interesting: when OS starts properly can you use it unlimited time or is simply cuts off after some time?

My Satellite laptop C660-2EV running Windows 7, for no apparent reason crashed to the blue screen of death, after which it would not reboot.

I have attempted to reboot in safe mode using the function keys but it gets as far as loading: windows\system32\drivers/classpnp.sys and then just sits there. From the various Internet posts it would appear that there is no definitive answer to this problem. Recommendation is to reload using recovery disks or the hidden image.

I cannot access the user manual as it is on the laptop so i have referenced the various posts on the internet. I had created repair and recovery disks when i purchased the laptop and so following various posts I booted my system with the repair disk and the process started.

Unfortunately the screens that appeared were different than those in the posts and as I do not have access to a user manual, I do not know if I am following the correct procedure.

Can anybody provide me with a PDF user manual for a C660-2EV laptop ?

Alternatively can anybody advise me how to reload Windows 7 ?

Thank you in anticipation.

Answer:Satellite C660-2EV crashed with BSOD and does not boot

User?s manuals document can be downloaded from http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_manuals.jsp
Anyway, if you have created recovery discs please start your notebook and press f12 to enter boot menu. When boot menu is shown on the screen put recovery disc 1 into optical disc drive and choose CD/DVD device as bootable device and press ENTER.

Installation should start. What you must do is just to follow menu on the screen. It must be similar as sown on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

Hi folks,

Posting this question for my neighbour as he now has no internet access as laptop not working - Satellite C660 running Win7.

When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Tried to boot from Win7 DVD (Pressed F12 to get to boot options & changed to DVD), can hear the drive trying to access the dvd but then get the message 'failed'. Win7 DVD works in both my laptop and desktop pc's.

Any ideas.

Thank you

Answer:Satellite C660 Won't boot from HDD or recovery disks

> When powering up he gets the Toshiba screen then a blank screen with cursor at the top left flashing.

Possibly the HDD is dead.
You ca try to power up the unit and press F2
Now you should be able to access the BIOS.

If the HDD isn?t listed on the first BIOS page, then this means that HDD isn?t recognized by BIOS and this means that HDD is faulty.

I have a Satellite C660 - PSC0AQ-03C019 + 1B194392K

For the last year the notebook has been running fine however in the last 2 months it has had a boot issue. The first attempted boot of the day, it will not boot, it powers on gets past the boot screens past the blinking cursor top left then stalls with a blank screen (not cursor just a faint glow).

Pressing and holding the power button turning it off and then turning on again the computer will start. sometimes (not always ) it will ask to boot normally or repair.

The notebook works perfectly in use not errors not crashes. Restarting the notebook works as expected shutting down and powering on after 5 mins works fine.

If the notebook is left off for an hour it or more it will not boot the same as above. powering off and powering on the system will boot but with start normally question.

There are no errors shown in system logs

Answer:Satellite C660 fails to boot first time

Hello

Your problem description is, for me, pretty confusing and I cannot understand your problem.
Can your notebook load and start preinstalled operating system or not?

Enter BIOS and set it to default settings. After doing this start your notebook again and describe what happen exactly.

Windows is corrupted.
You need to use the recovery discs to reload Windows.
If you need data from the HDD you can use a USB SATA 2.5" caddy to copy the data to another PC.

So this morning after trying to power up my Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D I was met with a black screen.

The power lights both work and light up, the fans whirl when I power up but nothing ever comes up on the screen, I was wondering if anyone could help here?

It's less than 3 months old.

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D will not boot up (black screen)

To be honest I really don?t know how to help you.
Remove battery, leave notebook for a while and try to start notebook with AC power supply only. Try to do it several times with and without battery. If nothing helps there must be some hardware problem so I recommend you to contact Toshiba service and ask for help.

Warranty is valid so there is no reason to be worried about it.

Hi,

laptop was accidentally dropped, worked okay at first but now won't load,
using f12 key to boot menu, the screen says,

pxe-e61 media test failure-check cable.
also pxe-m0f; exiting
pxe rom, operating system not found. can anyone please explain waht this means?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-v10 does not boot: pxe-e61 media test failure

The codes you are getting relate to the computer "setting itself up" before loading Windows and finding either what must be there missing or something that the BIOS says is there but missing. I believe the "check cable" message is generated when the pre-execution enviroment (pxe) looks for a device on a known connection and gets no response. This could be that a cable is not connected or the cable is perfect but the device is "broken" and is not responding to the pxe request.

I don't know anything about c660.
Can you access the BIOS? - is there anything greyed out or missing.
Can you change the boot order so that the CD is first and then see if the computer can start to run from a Windows CD.

(I would think its the HDD - I would think a mechanical device is more likely to give up than the electronics)

Answer:Satellite C660 - My Hard Drive failis to boot up

Hi

In most cases the data is lost if the HDD is faulty and you did not create any backups.
But I found also nice offer from Toshiba here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/services/home

Here choose Data Recovery.
You can purchase different Data Recovery Service for Hard Disk Drives. Such services is good for the future. Now you could ask Toshiba hotline for other date recovery services but of course you will have to pay for such data recovery.

I have read up on this status code & the best advice was from Microsoft site saying that system restore could help. But that was stupid assistance as i cannot load up my system as I cannot complete start up repair because after clicking on it windows bar for loading up files does not end up being completed!

Instead i end up back at the Windows boot manager to try the repair that i have attempted 3 times.

Is there anything else i can do without paying out money for parts.

Hiya,

I hope you would help me.

I am having an issue with my bluetooth dongle and satellite c660-108.
It works all perfectly. It connects devices via bluetooth and I can do everything I want.

But then when I am shutting down laptop and turning on again it won't go if the bluetooth dongle is still in the usb socket.

I see Toshiba screen and then it hangs with black screen and blinking cursor in top left corner.
I have to turn it off, take out the bluetooth dongle and then turn it on again.
And then windows starts. After that I have to put in bluetooth dongle again if I want to work with it.

It is not a huge issue but it is a bit annoying when I have to take out the bluetooth and put it back again to get the windows started.
I am currently running under win 8.1 but had it already with win 8.

Anybody any ideas??

Answer:Satellite C660-108 does not boot if USB Bluetooth dongle connected

>I see Toshiba screen and then it hangs with black screen and blinking cursor in top left corner.
Mostly the blinking cursor appears because the notebook cannot find an bootable device.

It looks like the unit cannot switch to the HDD while the USB dongle is connected.
I would recommend you checking the booting order in the BIOS.

Set the HDD at the first place and the USB as last possible booting device.
Save the changes and check if it helps.

Hello.
I enabled the Quick Boot Function which skips the Logos and only boots from HDD, but I can't enter or reset the Bios.

I tried every button combination I can think of.
F2+power on not work.
F1, F10, F12, del, ESC, INS - all not work

BIOS updated to 1.50-win.
Help, please.

Answer:Satellite C660-1TM - cannot enter BIOS due to Quick Boot Function

Hi

To access the BIOS you have to power up the unit firstly (press power button) and then press immediately the F2 button. You can press F2 several times in the row to ensure that the button has been activated.

By the way: The Toshiba HWSetup is preinstalled on most Toshiba notebooks.
This utility provides BIOS options and settings. So you can change the boot order in using this tool too. You can find it in Toshiba Assist ->Optimize tab

First, thanks for any help. I know nothing about the inner workings of computers, so please, explain things to me the way you would to an infant! Here's the problem: my Satellite C660-IHK is a month old. I haven't used it much, nor have I had any problems with it. Until last night. I turned it on, the logo appeared as usual, and then it went to a screen that told me to "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key". I've no idea what that means or what I need to do now.

On another try, I pressed 'Set Up', which was located at the bottom of the screen when the logo appeared.I went to 'Boot'. Here's the info:

HDD/SSD
USB
ODD MATHITADVD-RAM UJ8BO
FDD
LAN Realtex PXE

On this page, I'm also told to 'Select the priority for booting the computer'. Again, I don't know what that should be. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite C660-IHK - "Reboot & Select proper Boot device"

Do you see this message every time when you start your notebook?

It is a bit strange.
Start notebook and press F2 to enter BIOS settings. Use F9 and set it to default settings and check if the problem persist or not.

If yes restart your notebook again and press F12 to enter boot menu. Check if HDD is listed there. If yes choose it and press ENTER button. Does Windows start properly?

Hi,

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Thanks

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

Hi

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

Hello,

I dropped the laptop today literally a few inches from the floor, it slipped from my hands as I was placing it on the floor. It fell flat.

I am now seeing the message "reboot and select proper boot device"

I have tried a few different options that I have read, and I can see the HDD in the F2 BIOS thing...or whatever it is called. So it is being recognised, but I can't seem to get around the message. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

PS I will need clear instructions, I'm not stupid, but I need things explaining. I do understand some bits and pieces.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite C660: message: reboots and select proper boot device

Hi

I think that your HDD is damage.
I think you did not check this correctly in the BIOS.

Please go to BIOS once again pressing F2.
Now on the first page you will see date, time, CD/DVD drive details and you should also see the HDD details (size, name)
Can you see this?

If not, the HDD is not initialized by BIOS and this means that due to the drop the HDD has been damaged.

I'm trying to install xp onto my Satellite Pro A120 (PSAC1E) which is running Vista Business (somehow) on 1GB RAM. I have tried setting BIOS to boot from CD-ROM, I have tried setting to boot from CD-ROM using the splach screen otions (F4). The CD drive whirrs and I can hear it trying to read the disc (continuously); however, the system always hangs on the black 'press any key to boot from CD..' screen and doesn't reach the blue screen with white writing. If I leave the dots to continue across the screen I just get the boot options for Vista or memory diagnostic utility.

The optical drive is okay: I can open the disc and run setup (without an install option) inside windows.
The disc is okay: I have installed this XP Pro SP2 onto other PC's without problem

I thought it might be the SATA driver issue, but having downloaded the drivers and compiled a disc using nLite, I realised my error - if it won't boot from CD what good is putting the drivers onto the CD?

We have several A120's at work and I cannot get any of them to boot from a win XP Pro SP2 disc!

I now think there must be some setting that prevents downgrading from Vista to XP: I do not have the knowhow to set up windows from DOS or I would try formatting the drive and putting the files onto the hard drive and then installing it that way.

Any help would be much appreciated...Vista Business might be okay with 3GB of RAM but not with one. What were Toshiba thinking when they put this package together?

Than... Read more

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 won't boot from disc

Hi

I doubt that this issue has something to do with the SATA drivers. You need only the SATA drivers on the blue screen with white letters where you can choose if you want to install XP (press Enter) or you can choose the repair console (press R).
But on this screen you will need the SATA drivers. Otherwise the HDD will not be recognized.

However in your case I would try another XP disk. I know that the disk is working in another computer but maybe your ODD is not working properly anymore and so it can?t read any disk. So please try another one.

Furthermore you should try to load the default settings in BIOS. Maybe it works.

Have you tested another bootable disk?
Check this please!

Purchased just under 2 years ago. Came with Windows 8.0 Upgrade DVD.
I now wish to upgrade to Win 8 (then onto Win 8.1).

No matter what I try (BIOS changes) can?t get the DVD to boot. Under CSM boot (default for the laptop) it returns a ?non system disc? error.

I have tried the DVD in other PC drives which also results in the same error message.
Other disks eg Windows repair & Tosh recovery disks all boot OK.

So I think the disk must be faulty.

My question is has anyone else had this problem or even successfully upgraded using the Toshiba supplied DVD?. Getting hold of Toshiba to get replacement DVD seems an impossible task especially 2 years down the line.

Any suggestions?

Then you should switch OFF the secure boot in order to be able to boot from external media like Disk or USB flash memory stick.

I'm trying to restore my satellite 2400. I'm getting an error msg

"Toshiba Recovery and Applications
CD - ERROR: INSTALL.INI
Section: 8
Key: DescriptionFile
Can't read from description file E:|COMPS\a24bdb38\text\desc.txt"

the folder a24bdb38 changes every time i try to re-run the install from the disk. there are 39 folders in the "COMPS" folder, all have a text folder with a .txt document in them. The desc.txt file is accessible and readable when i simply explore the cd and open it. All desc.txt files are descriptions of applications or features on the computer, each of the 39 different letter\number folders is for a different application or feature.

any idea how i can make this work properly, simply would like to restore the computer to factory settings.

thanks.

sorry for edit. more info.

tried to restore from safe mode. Computer won't allow it. Got an error msg there also though saying something to the point of the description of the computer was missing and i would need to input it correctly so the cd would work on the computer. Was never given an option to input the model of machine as it then prompted me that this could not be done in safe mode.

thanks again.

Answer:Satellite 2400 - Can't restore from boot disc

Hi

Why do you try to restore factory settings from safe mode? As far as I know you have to boot from the Toshiba disk to restore factory settings. Therefore boot from this disk and follow the screen instructions.

Otherwise you could try to install Windows from a Microsoft disk. Maybe your recovery disk is scratchy and can?t be read properly. After installing Windows from a Microsoft disk you can download all drivers and tools from the Toshiba website. :)

Good luck!

I bought a satellite L50-B-281 without OS, sibce I have an available W7 licence.

The L50 won't recognize any boot media I present. I alwys get the message:

boot failure: a proper digital signature was not found.
one of the files on the selrcted boot device was rejected by the secure boot feature

I tried downloading a new copy of W7 from MS, burned it to a DVD and tried to boot, but this did not work either.

On googling I found I shoul change the boot mode, but the UFEI is grey in the BIOS and can't be changed.

Have you got any ideas how I can install W7 on the Laptop?

How the hell do i put the original one back with it working??

Seems like its a compatability problem with cpu and hard drive as they dont want to be friends anymore!!

Hi,

I have a Satellite A500-19X and I put it in sleep mode earlier, I returned later to the laptop to bring it out of sleep when suddenly the screen went black.

I rebooted the machine by holding the power button and turned it back on. When I arrived at the logon page I tried to logon but got another black screen when I had entered my details.

After his I could not turn the pc on properly, I had a brief period where I could use the mains only, without the battery in and it would get to the windows logon but then the screen would turn off again when I tried to log on.

Currently I cannot turn the laptop on at all as when I turn it on it doesn't post, nothing happens to the screen with and without batter/mains.

I will be sending the laptop back for repair but I have some urgent data that I need off the hard drive.
I have an enclosure to hold the hard drive so that I can retrieve data off it however I am unable to remove the hard drive.

Are there any instructions on how to do this?
I have tried unscrewing the cover for the hard drive but I am unable to remove the cover.

Any help on this subject would be very much appreciated.

Hi there,

I am by no mean techologically minded, so please bear with me. My computer failed to start and I received a message saying that the boot had failed.

When I took it to my computer technician at university, he said that I will need the original disc that came with the computer as the hard drive is 'sick' and he will want to reinstall all the software. I cannot locate this disc for the life of me, and wondered if the media is downloadable or whether toshiba can provide a replacement. I'm in the UK but my laptop was bought in Canada new in Sept 2007. It is a A200 Satelite, 160gb, 2gig ram.

If anyone can help I would *really* appreciate it!

Thank you

Hi,
as the title says, the discs fail to boot, details below formated for easier reading (hopefully :) )

- Brand new Toshiba A300 series,
- I created a Recovery Disc with the toshiba utility, it gave no errors, the files are there but the disc appears to be non-bootable.
- This happens with the two attempts I made, using Verbatim -R and Sony +R media.
- The Recovery Discs do NOT boot on my desktop system either.
- The laptop does boot fine with a couple of Linux distros on CD-R.
- I AM using F12 to tell the laptop to boot from DVD.
- I have plenty of experience dealing with liveCDs, burning bootable discs, etc., so I am inclined to think there is some issue with the toshiba creation utility.

Any help will be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Recovery Disc created is ok but Satellite A300 wont boot

Hi

There is definitely nothing wrong with Toshiba Recovery disk creator.
I burned the Recovery disk too. One time it failed because I used not fully compatible DVD. Then I tested it with TDK-R and everything went smoothly.
No errors, nothing. Finally I booted from the DVD and could reinstall the OS too.

I presume you should check other DVDs.

Windows boot manager. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause
To fix the problem.
1 insert windows installation disc and follow the steps.
If you don't have disc contact system administrator or computer manufacturer

Answer:My laptop has refused to boot. Say to use a disc which I don't have or contact manufacturer. It's a Toshiba satellite

Sounds like you are going to need a Windows OS (Operating System) CD or bootable Windows OS USB device.

If you don't have either of those, see if you know someone who does. I know, unfortunately windows no longer seems to come with those, like they did at one time. Now they have it set up so that you have to make your own, once you have the computer, but people don't know that, or ignore it.

If you don't have anyone who has either of those that you can borrow, you can try contacting the manufacturer and see if they have a way for you to get one.

help!

Answer:Re: Satellite L350: media test failure - no bootable device, insert boot disc

Hi

This error message appears because the BIOS didn?t not find an bootable device which would contain an operating system.

How about the HDD? Is it recognized by BIOS?
Check this in BIOS settings; press ESC and F1 in order to access the BIOS.
There you should check if the HDD (all HDD details should be listed) is recognized.
If not, then this means that your HDD died and therefore you cannot boot from the HDD.

Hello all,

Yesterday all of a sudden, the laptop screen went blank. Upon turning it on several times, the screen still doesn't turn on. By connecting the monitor to a external monitor via VGA (my TV), the TV does show up the screen, but has several flickering horizontal lines showing, thus obscuring part of the screen (http://i.imgur.com/83RO8xg.jpg - ignore the windows behind, I was testing the sound - and it works).

I have tried several solutions on the web (like removing the battery and AC cable and pressing the power button, and interchanging the RAM card in the slots), and not surprisingly, nothing worked as I think my problem is not similar. Windows 10 just boots to a blue screen with a sad face and a QR code (I don't even know...), while Linux Mint does boot and gives a message of "running without hardware acceleration". I couldn't get any diagnosis on Linux to check if it's a problem on the graphic card or the motherboard, so I am turning to these forums to check if anyone had any similar problem.

Thank you.

A BIOS update is something that makes the main brain of the laptop smarter but this does not 100% mean it will fix it the normal fix is to run a recovery of the unit via the HDD by pressing F8 non stop on startup and selecting repair your computer then login and select Toshiba HDD recovery but before you do this make sure you have backed up all your data and created recovery disks via the toshiba recovery media creator in the start menu.

if you do want to run a BIOS update best thing to do is call Toshiba direct who can walk you though it and at least if something goes wrong it will be covered.

Hi!

My model is Satellite C660-1LD .
I want to add 4 GB RAM to my laptop.

There is now 4GB RAM DDR3 *(1066MHZ)* on my laptop.
Can I add, or is it better to add 4GB RAM DDR3 to the second slot with *(1333MHZ)*?

And what frequency my computer will work? (1066mhz or 1333mhz).
What better RAM to add( brand, frequency) you think?

Also the RAM I found is Unbuffered, what it means?

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite C660-1LD - I want to add 4 GB RAM

> Can I add, or is it better to add 4GB RAM DDR3 to the second slot with *(1333MHZ)*?
This depends on your chipset.
If your chipset supports 1333Mhz then the RAM will work with full performance, otherwise it would be clocked down to 1066Mhz.

I crashed my MBR against a standard MBR.
Do you have a C660 MBR so that I found the recovery?

Thank you in advance :)

Question: Satellite C660

My brother has a Satellite C660-1H6 laptop. Unfortunately his HDD went bad.
I installed a new HDD and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium, which was originally installed on the laptop.
Setup accepted his product key and installation went relatively smooth, only problem is that after installing the drivers, I cannot connect to wireless network.
Laptop uses an Atheros wireless card, model AR9285.
Things I tried, following forum suggestions:
-Allocate a MAC address instead of "Not present" to the wireless adapter.
-Changing various drivers, including the one from Toshiba page and some from the Atheros page.
-I installed ALL the drivers, I don't have any unknown device or exclamation mark in device manager
-Installed ConfigFree, Flash cards support utility, Value Added Package, Wireless LAN indicator (some users select that some of these are needed)
-I ran Windows troubleshooter
-I did a factory default reset in BIOS
-Although I did not change the antennas before, I also tested the wireless with the 2 antenna connectors replaced the other way on the wireless card.

Fn+F8 works, I can enable/disable the wireless. I can see a list of available networks, including mine. When is try to connect, it asks for password. My router is using WPA2-PSK authentication and AES encryption. I type the password, it tries to connect, but I get the following error message:
"Windows was unable to connect to XXX" (I replaced the SSID of my network with XXX)
After that... Read more

Is there a list of all its technical info?

Have a look at the other C660 models, if they have an i5 then your model should be able to take the same CPU.

Working on a spiffy e-machine with Windows Vista Home Basic that runs pretty well.

After reading multiple posts where the advice usually begins with suggesting a 'boot disc' or a 'recovery disc', I guess what I'm looking to find out is:
1) what is the difference between a boot disc and a recovery disc?
2) How do I go about making one on this machine (or if I even can)? << I did read through Grinler's tutorials regarding System Restore points and all that seems to in good order. But I guess I'm not sure on the relationship between that and my post (or if there even is one).
3) a best practice regarding these type of discs
I don't have any pressing issues at this time, but I also don't want to wait until I do.

Everything I've learned here at BC has been so great & helpful, I would like to stay on that path, so any links/apps/ideas/suggestions and/or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Boot Disc, Recovery Disc, Frisbee Disc

1) what is the difference between a boot disc and a recovery disc?Boot disk vs recovery disk. Let me see if I can phrase that in a way that makes some sense.A recovery disc is a generic term for the disk or media containing a backup of the original factory condition or a specified condition of a computer as configured by the original equipment manufacturer or an end-user. OEM supplied recovery media is sometimes shipped with some computers to allow the user to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and pre-loaded software as it was when it was shipped. This is not as common a practice today as it was in the past. I won't confuse the issue, but google recovery partition for more information.A boot disk is a removable data storage medium, i.e. DVD or flash drive from which a computer can load and run 'boot' an operating system or utility program. The computer must have an installed program or application which will load and execute a program or application from the boot disk. This will enable you to boot an otherwise unusable machine to be able to troubleshoot the OS or non-working application as necessary.Hope that gives you a better idea of the difference. As to how to create a boot disk? I will let more knowledgeable staff or members assist you.

Hi all,

I have been trying to creat recovery discs for my L300 but after a 1-2 mins the programme stops and says "please check if the disc is scratced or dirty, if so, try again with a new disc" error code 0E01B5-26-2A030C00,

I have tried this lots of times with lots of different DVDs over the past few weeks but this keeps happening!

The machine is only a few weeks old and running Vista home premium any advise please as Im stuck.

Thanks for reading.

Answer:Satellite L300 - recovery disc creator error - disc is scratced or dirty

Hi mate

I think you used simply not fully compatible and supported disks.
In my case I couldn?t create the recovery because the CD/DVD drive was not able to handle it.

Fact is that many CD & DVD disks supports different standards and properties and in many cases the CD/DVD drives have many difficulties to handle the different disks.
I think you should simply test some DVD-R disks.

I uses DVD-R and was able create the recovery disk.

Hi. My satellite C660 "froze" while I was using the internet and nothing would work - no mouse movement, no keys responsive etc. I was only able to turn it off by holding the power button. When I turned it back on it re-started and indeed worked OK for a few minutes, but then froze again. I again had to turn it off via the power button.

When I again tried to re start it, I turned on the power and the usual Toshiba screen appeared (with notes at the base re F2 and F12 keys) but then a message appeared saying that Windows could not start and that this may be due to a software or hardware change. The message said that I needed to insert the Windows discs and select "Fix", or something similar. Of course, I do not have discs as the laptop came with Windows "loaded". The advice in that case was to contact my "administrator".

I have tried the suggested "reset" by removing the battery, pressing power key and connecting AC power, all to no avail.

Now, if I power the laptop up, I see only the initial black Toshiba screen (with the F2 and F12 notes) for a second or so and then the screen goes blank - not truly black, but no "life2 at all.

I have tried the Toshiba Q&A, to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas what is next please?

Thanks

Stephen

My Satellite C660-26Z laptop has not got a HDMI port socket,
so how can I connect a cable from laptop to use my TV screen.

Maybe, I need to use the external monitor port ( VGA ) socket on my laptop with a special connection cable ? Please let me know, Thanks, Terry.

Answer:How to connect Satellite C660-26Z to TV?

Hi

This depends on the available TV ports.
Check the ports that are supported by TV. Recommend also reading the TV user manual to get more info about available ports.

Fact is that notebook supports just an RGB (VGA) out port. No HDMI or no DVI port is available. So you can use just an VGA cable?
Now the question is what port can be used in connection with VGA cable.

Hi,

couple of years ago I bought this laptop for my girlfriend who decided finally to use internet at home.

Since the day 1 this laptop had problem when starting remaining for the most on black screen and with just the fan noise and the battery and the ON led giving some signs of life.

Anyway after a couple of on/off it used to start and been blaming about it the house temperature not really the best during the winter period.

After few months my girlfriend gave up using it and just just put back in the box where been resting up to one week ago when she gave it back to me together with other things cause the end of our relationship.

Yesterday the laptop started fine at the 1st shot and been working on it a couple of hours without any issue then switched off normally.

Today instead this laptop doesn't want really know about starting in any mode: no matter how many time I switch it off/on but nothing.

Tried to swap ram position, clean it, the 60 second on the power button trick but nothing.
The laptop yesterday been working on a table with no cooling problems at all: now my question

What can be wrong with this laptop expecially considering it been bought brand new off amazon but had this issue since the day one?

Thanks for your attention and
BR

Alex

Answer:Satellite C660-19G is not starting

>What can be wrong with this laptop expecially considering it been bought brand new off amazon but had this issue since the day one?

Hmm? probably an hardware malfunction causes this issue.
I?m thinking about RAM or motherboard problem.

You said, you have already swap the RAM slots. But did you use new, good tested RAM modules? I think it?s definitely worth a check.

The motherboard problem would be the worst case since such part is very expensive.

However, if this issue has appeared from first day of purchase, I?m wondering why this unit has not been replaced in the past under warranty conditions.

Hi TronicBrain,

You can identify the devices if you check the vendor and device ID. If you don?t know how to do this check this interesting link:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=78

PCI Simple Communication could be the LAN or WLAN card and SM Bus Controller could the card reader so download the card reader driver.

I was watching a film on my Toshiba Satellite C660-17E and all of a sudden the computer powered off as it gone in to hibernate mode, so I plugged the power. I could see two lights in front of the laptop one from the ac power and the other to indicate the computer was on.

So I tried to re-start the computer I could hear it powering but nothing on the screen, so I i thought my LCD screen was gone, so I tried again switching off, unplugging, removing the battery, and putting the battery and the ac power back just to notice that the ac power now is not working because the power indicator light is no more coming on, only the green indicating that the computer should be on but there is nothing on the screen.

1) so now I will list what is happening when I try to switch on.

when I press the power button - I can here noise as if want to power up but nothing on screen for a couple minutes the I here some activity but with very low noise.

2) ac power not working anymore when plugged to the lap top.

the green light to indicate the laptop is on is working as the battery still have some power but I know when the battery go flat I will have nothing

so all I have is one green light a bit of noise for a couple minutes and the fan works , no BIOs, no windows, no battery charging,

so I don't know if is the LCD, MOTHER BOARD or else

can some body help please

Hi,

I've been the owner of a Toshiba Satellite C660 for approximately five days, and I'm already experiencing severe keyboard lag. Like users of the L270 model, and other posters on this forum, the keyboard has dramatically slowed down and letters are being omitted, slowing down the typing process.

I've tried to update my BIOS, as numerous posters have suggested, but my BIOS is bang up to date.

I haven't tried removing the battery or anything like that. Frankly if I have to do that to get my keyboard working properly the computer is going straight back and I'm demanding a refund.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite C660 - Several keyboard lag

Hey,

I never saw any L270 users here... As far as I know there is no such a notebook model?

Anyway, that?s really strange and I never heard about such a problem on Satellite C660. In my opinion everything what you can do is updating the BIOS and using preinstalled Windows version. If you can still notice the same behavior, ask the seller for a replacement model.

I agree with new: This shouldn?t happen on a five day old notebook.

I find alot of batteries online, but my main concern is that. My laptop is Satellite C660-1M0 (ps1ge-02901fgs).

I find batteries that claim is for c660 but they reffer as (PA3634U-1BAS),some reffer as c660d and some reffer as c660 (PA3634U-1BRS). I am a bit comfused, is any compatible??

Thank you

Answer:What battery do i need to buy for Satellite C660?

When you remove original battery you can see which part number it has. In my opinion best thing is to order the same battery model. Using this part number you can try to find some online store where you can order it.

On the market you can find many batteries offered by some third part manufacturer (without Toshiba label on it). Such batteries are cheaper that original batteries by Toshiba. They could be good but usually they are dead pretty fast.
Last year I ordered such battery for my old A300. Battery was OK but I could not get it in place properly. The battery was in place but at the back side there was some kind of pressure and the plastic was out of shape. Anyway, it is your decision what to do.

Compatible batteries for your Satellite notebook have follow part numbers:
PA3757U-1BRS
PA3787U-1BRS
PA3817U-1BRS
PA3818U-1BRS
PA3820U-1BRS

Thx for any advice or support which u may give me

Answer:Satellite C660-28V - USB hub problem

Hi

I?ve checked specification for your notebook and as I can see your notebook was originally offered with Win7 64bit so I don't understand why you don't use this original version.
You could install original recovery image and just optimize it to your needs.

Ok you maybe want to have Ultimate version and your own OS installation should not be problem because all necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can download from Toshiba drivers download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Of course we don't know what have you installed and how it looks like when you open device manager. Are all hardware components installed and listed properly?

Anyway, what I can say is that all Win7 64bit drivers, tools and utilities are available and you should install all of them.
The right installation order is as follow:
Windows 7 64bit
TOSHIBA Assist
Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility
Intel Management Engine Interface
Intel Display Driver
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
Realtek Audio Driver
TOSHIBA Supervisor Password Utility
TOSHIBA HW Setup Utility

I own laptop Toshiba Satellite C660, i bought it two and a half years ago, but i didn't extend my warranty.

Unfortunately, six months after my warranty expires, my HDD failed. One day it started doing weird sounds and computer was not able to start. I find out that my HDD is broken and I need new one.

So I ordered a new one, put it into my laptop, installed Windows 7 on it (I am a student and my university give us Windows free). But there is this problem:

My laptop's resolution can be changed only to two possible options: 800x600 and 1024x768. I don't remember what resolution I had before, but I am 100% sure that it was better and, what is more important, it was 16:9, not 4:3.

Another problem is that my function key (Fn) do not respond. So I am not able to turn my WiFi or Bluetooth on, or make my laptop hibernate.

Can you help me? What should I do?

Thank you very much.

Answer:HDD Failure on Satellite C660

Hi

At first please be so nice and post exact model number of your notebook (C660-xxx). I don't know if your notebook was delivered with preinstalled OS but if yes I?m really wondering you don't have installed original recovery image.

Anyway, after clean OS installation you must install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities.
Please post model number as soon as possible and e can check Toshiba download page and help you with drivers, tools and utilities installation.

Good day!

my concern is about my Toshiba laptop I bought it 2 months ago in Europe when I reach in Philippines my son keep on playing it suddenly it was turn off and it didn't open anymore.

I go immediately to Toshiba centre at Cagayan de oro city and I found out that it was the keyboard problem but they could not replace it because there are no available keyboards suited for that laptop. How can I fix it?

Model name: TOSHIBA SATELLITE C660-1DG.

Thanks

Answer:Need new keyboard for Satellite C660-1DG

At first I must say that biggest problem for you is that warranty cannot cover keyboard replacement and you must pay keyboard exchange alone. Notebooks from EMEA (Europe ? Middle East ? Nord Africa) countries have EMEA warranty only so warranty is, unfortunately, not valid.

To be honest I don?t understand why the keyboard must be exchanged if the notebook doesn't start properly.

Anyway, this notebook model has keyboard used on many models so to find new one should not be problem. Best way to order new keyboard is eBay. In last 3 years I?ve ordered several keyboards over eBay. You will not believe me but all of them I ordered from China.
