Preferred Solution: Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

Hi Marco

I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm what you wrote but fact is that almost all new notebooks are pretty slow at the beginning. Many applications are set to start with Windows and this, of course, slows down boot time.
Windows updates are also set to automatic so in the background the machine will download and install many updates so this will slow down your machine rapidly.

In my opinion you should install original OS that you got with this machine and optimize it a bit.
Remove all useless stuff, change start-up option and disable automatic Windows updates.
In the past I have noticed that original preinstalled antivirus is also responsible for notebook?s performance so I don't use original preinstalled application but my own version of Avir Antivir and it runs perfectly.

Check all these options and I hope your machine will run much better than before.

Hello everybody,
the Toshiba Sat C70D-B-317 (PSCLEE01L009FR) is on it's way and I don't have it for the moment but I would like to know if there is a way to add some Ram to this machine without opening everything?
Also, is it possible to change the HD in the future in the same conditions?

sorry, but it's my first PC laptop and as a Mac user I'm completely lost with all these models and different serial numbers.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

1. yes you can upgrade your RAM, This laptop has 2 slots with one 4GB standard so if you would you can put one more 4GB. With 2x4 you have Dual-channel and that works much faster than single

I don't know if your HDD can e upgraded. When it's not possible you can always buy a external HDD

I hope i helped you

i see that the site don't provide all download drivers. In the device management I have still 2 drivers missing
pci encryptions/decryption controller and unknown device.

Can someone help me out with it?

Answer:Need some drivers for my Satellite C70D-B-10U

According notebook specification your machine was delivered with preinstalled Win8.1 64BIT ML.
Original preinstalled version is perfectly configured with all necessary drivers.

The question is: what are you doing with your machine?
Do you try to use some older Windows version?

Just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as far as I know until know), except boot from DVD. I disabled in the bios the Secure Boot and changed the boot order to DVD first, then USB and then HDD. The DVD drive starts, but then it skips to the HDD and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so that is not the problem.
I would like to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Anyone solved this problem already?

Answer:Satellite C70D - How to boot from DVD

Update: changing from UEFI to CMS in the BIOS Advanced tab makes it possible to boot from DVD, but Windows won't boot anymore.... Is there any possibility to boot from DVDE and still be able to start Windows as well?

Good evening,

I'm sorry to disturb,
but I find myself in a situation to which I find no solution,
that's why I come here asking for some help.

A friend has just purchased the following laptop:
- Satellite C70D-B-307

but the worry is that apparently it is impossible to have access to the HDD recovery to execute the factory restoration.
I try all possible solutions that I find on the web and none of it works.

what to do ?

does Toshiba sell the recovery DVDs that will restore the computer to its factory state?

Thank you very much .

I'm looking for a new display for my Toshiba Satellite C70D-A-11K!

Please help!

Answer:Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

The Satellite C70D-A-11K was equipped with the 17.3" LED color LCD panel with the supporting max resolution of 1600 x 900 px
You should be able to order such display panel from local Toshiba authorized service provider or you could check some 3rd part online dealers who provide compatible notebook parts…

As I mention above: you should look for the 17.3" panels.

I have a C70D-A-107 and want to speed up this notebook. Already placed 4gb extra memory so the notebook has now 8gb internal. I doubt whether it is usefull to put in 2x8gb. I think the processor is just to slow. It has a AMD E1-2100 inside. Is it possible to put in another (faster) processor?

Answer:Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

The Satellite C70D-A-107 was equipped with an AMD Essentials E1-2100 Accelerated CPU (1,00 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache)
It’s not the fastest CPU therefore the notebook performance isn’t the best…

But CPU upgrade isn’t officially supported by notebook manufacturer... therefore I don’t think that you will be able to upgrade the CPU…

I read about successful Intel CPU upgrades but did not meet anyone who was able to perform an upgrade with an AMD CPU

Hi All,

I have an Satellite C70D-A-11D ... when I use once the FN Key to do a Print Screen or use the Screen-Zoom on the Space Key...

I am not able to use the Keynumbers 1 to 4 neither the space Key to enter a space between two always change between the bigger screen solution or the normal solution...

I only can change the FN Key again after change the settings in Display settings and after a reboot...
So I cant use FN without a reset with the F1 to F12 Key use and a reboot...

Normaly the FN Key works only if it is pressed...if not the normal Function of the Keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?

What to do?

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D Function Key deactivate after use

First of all you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)

This function can be changed in BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration

Check this option.

Hi There,

I have had a Satellite C70D for about 18 months now, but have not used it in the past year as I have been disputing with customer services about the windows licence for the machine as I lost it when I formatted the original hard drive before installing an SSD and they wouldnt send me a copy of it. I have now bitten the bullet and bought a windows 10 licence again. However since building the machine a few days ago, I have been having a couple of issues and as it is now out of warranty, I cannot contact customer support (Who I found unhelpful even when it was in warranty!)

The first issue is when I boot up the machine, occasionally the keyboard will not work, I cannot type the BitLocker pin and I have to remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this then fixes the issue for a few reboots before it goes again.

The second is that occasionally it will boot up with a red x next to the WiFi symbol, but it detects the WiFi card, usually a reboot fixes this but not always. I have reseated the card and still no avail.

Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing this? The BIOS is up-to-date as are all of the drivers.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi all,

My grandmother recently bought this Toshiba, mostly i recommend people a Toshiba but this is going to far.

I wasn't aware that she bought a laptop untill she called me and said she needs help because she never worked with such a slow computer as this Toshiba.

So my question is

How much logic does Toshiba has? I mean putting 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM ( ok nice for a casual laptop ) doesn't quite fit with a >>1GHz<< processor. for the rest the specs aren't terrible.

Can somebody explain me why this laptop has a 1GHz processor with 6GB of RAM. this doensn't makes sence at all

I picked up a brand new c70d-b-10u today from a well known retailer.
I turned it on, set the language, gave a computer name, hooked up to a wi fi and then it asked for Other User Password!

I never entered a password to start with so why is it asking for one?

I cannot get to the shop again until next week and urgently need to get up and running.

Any ideas greatly received.

Answer:Brand new Satellite C70D-B-10U wants a password?

Try to recover the notebook once again using the HDD recovery option.

The recovery procedure would reset the notebook back to factory settings… usually after that no passwords should be set…

After a regular shutdown I cannot boot the system anymore.
System starts but does not boot.

Referring to the manual (section 6, solutions of problems) I tried to hit [F12] after power on but nothing happened.
Same when hitting [F2].

My impression is that something failed on hard disk drive.

P.S. system has Win10 installed.

I have a Satellite C70D-A-114...

i hardly used it because it was slow

so i wanted to sell it

first i wanted to set it back to factory settings

doing that, in that process i seem to have deleted all files

so now i get message no bootable disc etc.

Tried everything, there is simply no recovery file

So where can i find such a file for free? It's just not normal that it is not on the site.

Answer:Need recovery files for my Satellite C70D-A-114

All you can find for free are all drivers, tools and utilities. Original recovery image (software package) is not for free and if you need it you must order recovery disc directly by Toshiba.

You can order it on

By the way: in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can create recovery installation disc. I’m wondering you didn’t make it in the past.

I have 2 issues with my new Satellite C70D-B-32U.
When I put it in sleep mode, it does. But after about 5 minutes, it goes automatically to hibernate. This I don't want. And I don't want to disable hibernate, because I do use it when the laptop is not in use for longer periods. The power settings in control panel do not reflect this behaviour. In the settings, I specified that the laptop should never go to hibernate. Hybrid state is disabled.

And secondly, more importantly. Whenever it goes to hibernate, I can only wake it up with the power button. Not with the (internal) keyboard, not with the usb mouse. I would like an option to wake it from hibernate by pressing any key on the keyboard. In bios power on keyboard is set to on. Is there anything else I can change to have this available?
Actually if issue 1 is solved and the laptop stays in sleep mode, this issue is also solved since from sleep I can wake on a mouseclick which is also fine.

The OS is windows 8.1

Answer:Can I replace the HDD in my Satellite C70D-B -00P model with an SSD?

Generally speaking yes, you can do this but problem is that your notebook model doesn't have HDD cover at the bottom side.
To have full access to the HDD the bottom cover must be removed completely but it should be done by authorized service only.

Of course you can try to do it alone but I?m afraid you may lose the warranty.
If possible contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask for help.

So I bought this laptop a few months ago.
For the past few weeks the Laptop stopped playing sound.
I watched a stream in Chrome.

So actually I should be able to see the sound playing in the mixer.
But I wasn't able to play any sound or get any deflection in the mixer.

Then I installed Speccy and as this administration window popped up a sound was played and it worked.

I have no idea why the sound stopped working and why it started again.
Is someone able to help me?

I am using Windows 8.1

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D - no sound, random

The main thing is that you have sound again. It is not easy to say what was wrong there.
Have you installed some updates or anything else that can be responsible for this sound issue?

Or have I not set them right has anyone else had this problem, any ideas or solutions thank you.

Answer:Bad Speakers on Satellite C70D-B-10UM

I think your notebook has only small stereo speakers and the sound is not the best. I have Satellite S50-B with Harman/kardon speakers and sound is really good.

You can try to change sound options but if you want to have better sound I’m afraid you need external speakers, Maybe BT speakers.

I switched it on this morning and got the Toshiba Logo - then it went to blank screen and there was a large data entry box asking me for a password. I tried the same one and I get another screen showing a red data entry box saying "VERIFY ERROR!! Please reenter to continue!!

Anyone a solution?

To be honest I’ve never heard about such touchpad behaviour.
Have you tested all touchpad settings?
If there is option to set all of them on default settings please do this and test functionality again.

Anyway, best hardware test is to reinstall operating system and check touchpad functionality with “factory settings”.

Hi there,

I was bought the above model of laptop for an early Christmas present which usually sits down in the living room, my old Satellite Pro sat down there with no issues however with this device the wireless signal is very low and I appear to be having it sitting right next to the wireless router (which is located upstairs in my sons bedroom), I wondered if there's any steps I could take to improve the signal?

It baffles me how a new system has such a poor wireless signal when my old Satellite Pro which was 6 years old had no wireless issues whatsoever.

My other issue is from the moment I switched the laptop on (yesterday when it was delivered) the updates on Windows Update are slow or don't start at all, is this an issue or just normal?

I'd appreciate any help or input at all, thank you.

ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E (05.2014) won?t to read DVDs anymore. It doesn't matter which one I try it simply doesn't work.
Latest driver is installed.

Message was edited: posting has been translated

Answer:ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E wont read DVDs anymore

If optical disc drive is installed properly maybe is reading lens dirty. Try to clean it up.

Other way, if your ODD can read CDs but not DVDs it can also be hardware malfunction. The reading lens cannot be calibrated properly and cannot find the right position to read DVD media.

In such case ODD must be exchanged.

Try to clean lens up and check if the problem persists. If yes contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Hi all,

excuse the new thread but I haven't found any answers anywhere online, just speculation and it's for different models.

So I have a C70D-B-10U, running windows 7 64bit pro. When I formatted it and updated everything, it just kept crashing when trying to play back videos on Windows Media Player. I cleaned the inside and replaced thermal paste, updated to even newer drivers, and started using VLC as my default media player. It rarely crashed BUT it always does when I try to start playing games (nothing heavy - League of Legends). Laptop seems to be doing well with memory tests, no faults detected.

I've read that this could be caused by:
Faulty GPUFaulty BatteryFaulty PSUBad Capacitors on the MOBO

Has anyone had any similar experience? I've reinstalled Windows and it's the same story. If it's a motherboard issue, I guess it would be better to just get a new one?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-10U no warning crash (power, GPU or capacitors)

Update: I decided to test the RAM and it seems like it can't handle 8GB. Both 4GB sticks work on any slot, but when I have all of it on the machine it crashes. Do you think it is a motherboard issue?

Can someone tell me which driver I exactly need for these 2 devices?

The 2 devices are:

As mentioned, i allready downloaded all drivers for this laptop and installed them, windows is ofcourse up-to-date. Also I let windows search for drivers on the Internet and on the whole drive, but no drivers where found.

Who can give me the golden tip?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-306 - 2 unknown devices in device list

There is a good method in order to find out what drivers are missing.
First of all you should check the DEV (device) and VEN (vendor) IDs

Here is an short instruction how to find this details:

Knowing the device and vendor ID, it should not be a big deal to get the right drivers.

At the other hand you should install also additional Toshiba software (Toshiba System Driver) released for Win 8.1
Please note also that there are two Win 8.1 driver areas: ?Win 8.1 update? and ?Win 8.1 32bit/64bit? categories
In case you would not find all drivers within the Win 8.1 update check also the Win 8.1 32bit/64bit categories.

I have buy a Satellite C70D-A-11T and pass it on Windows 7 64 bits Home Premium.
I install all the drivers and I haven't any problems.

When I want to connect it to my TV for first time, I discover there is no sound on the TV.
I try to go on the speaker (near the clock of windows), right click, sound, first tab (I think it is "Playback" in english... I have a french Windows) and my device (TV) doesn't appear.

I come back on Toshiba Support website to download the last driver "HDMI Audio driver" for my laptop, I connect the cable, and it appear in the sound properties. I select it as my default device and the sound come right from my TV.

Great !

But when I restart my laptop (with or without the HDMI cable), the TV disappear from the list in the sound properties, the only one solution to recover the sound is to reinstall the HDMI Audio Driver.
If I start the driver installation with the "advanced" option, I have the list of drivers to install and I see all drivers are already installed, but the HDMI Audio Driver will be upgraded... I install it and it work until the next restart.

Could you explain me why the version of the driver don't stay on the system, and how to make it work without reinstall it everyday ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Well, I?m wondering why you purchased a unit with an internal (part of CPU) graphic chip if you want use the notebook for gaming?

The notebook supports the AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics which is part of AMD Quad-Core A6-5200 CPU.
Such GPU is similar to Intel HD GPU which is also part of Intel CPUs.

Such internal graphic cards are not really designed for gaming? of course you would be able to run and to play a game but don?t expect too much?

Hi there

Pretty much every time I turn on my laptop I am being asked to enter in the date, it defaults to 1.1.2015. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can overcome this issue? Just to be clear this happens right at the point of turning the computer, i.e. before Windows even starts to load up. It must be date/time settings of the device.

Thanks for your help in advance

Would be grateful for any advice to remove the back panel.

I've removed battery, ~16 screws + 1 tiny screw at the optical drive and whilst it does 'unclick' everywhere else, there seems to be something stopping the panel being removed just above the battery compartment and don't want to force it.

Even our IT guys at work cannot work it out.

PLEASE new laptop is very slow so have purchased RAM but can't access the back.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-30D: How to access back panel after ~16 screws removed

At first I must say that you should not remove bottom cover alone because it will cancel valid warranty. If there is no RAM cover, RAM should be exchanged or upgraded by authorized personal only.

I know every of us think it is easy to do and want to do this alone.
What I know is follow:
2 screws in the middle are fixing the keyboard. What must be removed are 14 screws and small flat screw at the optical drive. That’s all. There is no other hidden screw.

Of course there are also small plastic holders and bottom cover must be removed very gently.

Hello everybody,
brand new C70D two days old, if I want to look a Youtube video full screen after a few minutes, the C70D stops, blue screen with a message : your computer gets a problem, we collect informations ect.
After a restart the same problem comes again a few minutes later.
I have 14 days to accept this machine, but if it's a graphic card problem I prefer to return it to the vendor.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

I've only noticed today that when I turn up my laptop's volume up to about 28 (even with headphones in), there's this high pitch noise that comes from the speakers. And I'm sure it's the speakers and not anything else.
But the sound is sort of that real ear-killing noise so I can't listen to it for long. It even sometimes sounds like thousands of crickets - a complete nightmare

But with my volume at any level below 28 I can listen to whatever through headphones without the sound bothering me.

Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I do know a thing or two about computers but nothing about anything extremely technical and I'm not sure if I want to take it apart, unless I really have to.

If you could help me it would be appreciated!

I got a wireless mouse and so, using F5 disabled the touchpad. Now I can't get it to work again. I was told, by the support robot/person here, to turn the laptop off and then to remove the battery and AC adapter before pressing and holding the power button on the laptop for 10 seconds. Then I should replace the AC adapter, leaving the battery out, before turning the machine on and then immediately start tapping the F2 key. This will take me into BIOS. Once there and the BIOS menu has loaded, tap the F9 key and then press Enter. This will reset BIOS to the default settings. To exit the BIOS, tap the F10 key and then press Enter. This will restart the laptop.

The trouble is I cannot do any of this as the battery is does not seem to be removable, by the customer at least, on this product.
Had I been able to achieve this and found the cure not to have happened that I should reinstall the touchpad driver.

As I cannot do what is advised, in correct sequence, I am at a loss as to just what I should do. HELP PLEASE.

Answer:Touchpad on Satelite C70D-12U not working

You dont need to remove the battery, you can do a hard reset by holding down the power button for 20 seconds.

Does the touchpad work in the BIOS?
If no, there may be a hardware problem.
If yes, uninstall the touchpad driver in Control Panel, then let Windows Update install the new driver.

I have two C70D's. Both died within weeks of each other, and went back for repair with RepairTech, under warranty.

Both machines failed to boot, with an error code(?) of three flashes of the power button.

One machine came back within a week, fully working.

The other took three weeks, came back with a change of motherboard (they say). I unpacked it, and it was still not booting, still flashing three times on the power button.

I phoned repairtech, immediately, sent it back, the next day.

Today it came home, again, I opened wont boot, and does the same three flashes on the power light.

Back on the phone. They've booked it in again, saying maybe it's a peripheral. The only peripheral is the power adaptor. I have two. It doesn't work with either.

I believe the problem is battery related, but it's an internal battery so I can't open it without voiding the warranty.

Has anyone else had problems with RepairTech? Does anyone know if this is a battery problem?

Hi, my A105 - S2031 has CD/DVD combo TS-L462C. If I play a CD or DVD, everyting is too slow like a slow motion.

Does anyone could help me how I can fix this? Or is this a mechanical error of the CD/DVD combo?

Thanks for anybody's help in advance, Michael

Answer:Satellite A105-S2031: DVD/CD plays to slow like slow motion

Here on this forum is definitely not possible to give exact diagnostic and if you want to have exact answer your notebook should be checked by Authorized service partner. Using special diagnostic tools they can say for sure why this happen.

We can just speculate here and for me it will be interesting to know what is with HDD activity while CD or DVD plays. Is HDD LED permanent ON? What is with CPU activity? Please check CPU usage (%) when CD/DVD plays.

I have recently bought an Satellite A300-1MV it runs vista,
I have the trial Mcafee running and the other pre-installed software that came on the laptop. My problem is that on boot up the computer seems to take a ridiculous amount of time to boot up, once past the vista orb it says please wait which lasts about a minute untill the password request appears.

I had a look in the problemreports in control panel and found that the toshiba tempro program was hanging on boot up so disabled it but didn't seem to have any effect, I also find that when for example you double click on a photo thumbnail to view it, it takes about 30 seconds to appear on the full screen allthough the window is shown on the start menu bar at the bottom allmost straight away.

I have defragged the hard drive, scandisk, memory checked, virus checked etc.. I compared it to a friends laptop dell that has less memory but same spec processor and vista and that appears to work 10 times faster.. any ideas?, I do wonder if its a toshiba program causing the problem.

I do though have a problem with acrobat reader opening of its own accord and telling me it can't read the file ( don't know what file)

I have uninstalled this and reinstalled but still have the same issue!...HELP!!!

My laptop is a Satellite L650-12Q with Windows 7 home premium 64-bit, intel core i5-43M and 4096mb RAM. It has been working just fine but started to be a little slow last weekend, i defragmented it and it got a little better. Then two days ago it takes 22mins to startup (& login) and a further 7min just to open any programs. It is seriously slow.

I have defraged it again, run Tuneup Utilities (which says there is nothing to fix for startup), run my antivirus & anti malware and started it up in safe mode. Even in diagnostic start up and almost all the startup programs off it makes hardly any difference.

Altogether It still takes 10minutes to get from the 'starting windows' to my login screen then another 5 to get to my desktop. Then if I want to open a word doc or firefox it will still take another 3-5min for it to come up and slowly start functioning. It does get better the longer it has been on but not by much.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it is to tell me that it is time to get a new laptop :)

Answer:Satellite L650-12Q - very slow startup & slow preformance

No, it is not the time for new laptop.
Of course we don?t know how did you use your notebook, which additional software have you installed and how have you configured OS so in my opinion, best thing you can do now is to back up all important data and install OS using original Toshiba recovery image.

After doing this you will have clean preinstalled OS and everything should be OK again. Please test it few days without changes and post some feedback.

Hi guys and gals,

after IE stopped I got the message did I want to report it, so I did, then the link came back and there was a link to review the report.

It came up with the message some tool bars and add ons were slowing the computer down , click to see them , there were dozens and dozens of them, never heard of most of them.
Then i clicked to see toolbars again multiple tool bars that I?ve never head off. Nothing in add/remove and nothing in add ons except the couple i put in.

Does anyone know what?s going on?

PS: the link took me to Microsoft fix it.

Answer:Slow IE on Satellite P10-504

> It came up with the message some tool bars and add ons were slowing the computer down , click to see them , there were dozens and dozens of them, never heard of most of them.

I assume these Add-ons could be disabled in IE settings.
Start the IE, go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons
Now you should see several Add-ons categories containing single Add-ons.
Click on Add-on and disable or uninstall it.

I'd be grateful for any help you guys can give me.

I have a new-ish Satellite L40 (bought last autumn). It's a dead basic machine -- Intel Celeron / 1.60GHz / 1015 RAM -- running Vista Home Premium. It was bought just to do word processing work + some very light internet use. The problem is that it runs very slowly (including taking forever to get going when I first turn it on).

I've virus tested it to death. I regularly run spyware detection / elimination programmes. I've cut the number of start-up programmes right back. All the results say I've got a clam machine. But still it's as slow as hell. And when I say slow, I can just about make a cup of coffee in the time it takes to access the net.

I've contacted Toshiba technical support, and the best they could suggest was that I reformat the hard disk, which is pretty drastic. If anyone out there has a better suggestion, I'd love to hear it. Right now, I'm rather regretting my initial purchase.

Thanks a lot -- Max

To be honest this drastic solution is not a bad proposal.

But what do you mean exactly with slow machine???
How long do you need for a booting?

Fact is that many applications are preinstalled on this notebook and this could be a main reason for a long booting. But fact is that many of these applications are necessary to run all the notebook features.
Furthermore a antivirus program which is running in the background and could affect the booting time. Long time ago I have used the Norton Antivirus and this software was a reason why my notebook was very slow... I changed it and now I'm use the freeware software like Antivir. It's much better...

Once it even wouldn't shut down and the screen said "shutting down... " entire night. I'm confused.
What's wrong? What can i do? Thx

Answer:My Satellite P15 is very slow

In just short words: I think that your notebook needs to be ?clean? preinstalled. I don?t know what are you doing with your notebook but after long period of ?intensive usage? the notebook loose the performance.

I recommend you to back up all your important data and preinstall unit with delivered recovery media. Create two partitions, configure the unit to run with all applications and settings you need and after that you can create your own recovery image. Save it on second partition and on this time you can reinstall the image every time you need. After just 20 minutes you will have your favorite configuration any time you need.

Hi ,

My gf has a A40-151 laptop that has been going very slow with blue sceens of death, noisey unit, and system reverting to pio mode rather than ultra dma. We have ruled out a virus infection, and adware. I have had problems like this with all my past pc's and it was always the hdd dying or near death and this feels the same(have backed up) . Though yesterday the laptop become very noisey which I suspected the hdd was probably about to jam! However, the xp bluescreen referred to kernel, and memory dump. Could the processor, and memory also be dying ? Maybe a fan is falling?

I have had a celeron processor with shared video in the past and they weren't quick at the best of times.

Kind regards,

Answer:Satellite A40-151 is very slow

It's better to check the computer step by step:

1 You said the laptop became very noisy yesterday - it can be because of the clogged cooling module that keeps the fan running hard. You need compressed air spray to blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators. If you clean it well but the noise still exists, maybe the fan blade is broken (need to be replaced). The HDD can also makes noise as it's getting old (should be replaced)or need to be defragmented. You can download Raxco Perfect disk software to defragment it, it's shareware but free for 1 month.
2 About Xp blue screen, you should reinstall Windows Xp and see what happens.
3 It can also be hardware issue, if something serious, should contact ASP (service center)

Answer:My Satellite P20 is very slow

Hello Mike

Since almost two years I am owner of Satellite P20 (red one) and I am very satisfied. It is a great machine. My unit has a little bit more RAM as yours, SP2 is installed too but it runs perfectly. The start up could be a little faster but have no problems like you.

You have mentioned that you have tried everything but did you also try to reinstall the unit with recovery CD?

Over time, Windows loses stability. If you keep a computer for more than two years, at some point the best solution is to reinstall Windows from scratch.

Everything I do takes ages!!!!

Even my old laptop running Centrino with XP or Seven run faster!!!

Any idea? It is a new computer!!!!

Answer:Satellite L70-A-14Z is very slow

What do you mean exactly but ?running slow??
Can you provide more details?
Sorry mate but such ?general? decryption isn?t very helpful to determine the cause of the issue.

The notebook can be slow due to different reasons.
The system could be overloaded and many background processes could slow down the system.
At the other hand an HDD malfunction could affect the data read/writing process and system performance.
Last but not least viruses and malware infections are common reason for system problems.

As you see, there are many reasons why a system is running slow.

Hi, the Mat****a UJ840-S only writes DVD-R at 2x and should be 8X. It only reaches around 10X on DVD-R read too. I am using Datawrite 8X discs but have ordered some Taiyo Yuden 16X and 8X speed to try. Nero V7 reports only 2X write with the Datawrite discs.

As far as I know you can change the burn speed in the Nero software.
The ?Nero Drive speed? controls the write and read speed on the drive.

Hi folks - any advice on this would be appreciated...

I bought a Satellite L855-14K about 2 weeks ago and I'm very disappointed to find that at times it is extremely slow. For example from entering my password at the welcome screen to seeing the Avast and ZoneAlarm icons appear in the system tray takes 5 min 45 secs.

Launching Chrome takes 1min 15 secs.

Launching Task Manager takes 40 secs.

I have done the following to see if I could find the problem...

Full system scan with Avast - no threat found.

Boot-time scan with Avast - no infected files.

Check C drive for errors - no errors found.

Optimise and defrag - completed.

Malwarebytes full scan - no malicious items.

Superantispyware complete scan - found 169 cookies, which I removed.

Looked at Toshiba PC Health Monitor and everything looked ok.

Ran the Toshiba Diagnostic Tool and everything passed.

I manually checked for Windows updates and found 5 optional updates were available, which I installed.

I have disabled a number of the items in the startup list - this is what's currently enabled...

I checked the Services tab of Task Manager and I have 78 running services.

Answer:New Satellite L855-14K is very slow

I spoke to Toshiba tech support who agreed that the machine was running slow and verified that the poor performance of my laptop wasn't due to any software I had loaded.

They then guided me through resetting the machine (after I had backed up all my important files), which meant I then had to reload all the applications I had loaded prior to the reset.

However, the reset appears to have worked as the performance is now what I expect.

My thanks to Henry and John at Toshiba tech support.

Got a new Satellite C650 two weeks ago. Everything on it runs very slowly.

Gave up entirely on Internet Explorer and switched to Google Chrome, which helped but it is nowhere near as fast as it should be. I use a wireless broadband connection that works fine on other laptops in the house. I have read that I should look at disabling some start-up processes that are not needed but which ones? Toshiba has loads of them running and I haven't a clue what they are.

I should add that I also installed BitDender antivirus software and it is the only addition I have made.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite C650 - Is slow from the first day

Hi buddy,

To be honest it?s always hard to discuss about such problems that a notebooks runs slow because nobody knows what you did exactly and what additional programs you installed.

Fact is if you have installed another antivirus software, make sure that the preinstalled McAfee from Toshiba is removed.
If you have two antiviruses installed, they will slow down the performance.

You can also defragment the HDD. This can also increase the performance.

Last but not least it?s always advisable using the forum search. You will find a lot of threads about this question.

So, what's the matter???

Answer:DVD recording very slow on my Satellite M30

Which burning program did you use?
I prefer to use the Nero burning utility. In my opinion, it?s one of the best burning tools. You should check if you have this issue with other burning programs.
Did you simulate the burning procedure or did you burn the DVD without simulating?
As far as I know some programs simulate firstly the burning procedure and after proper simulation the files will be burn to the DVD. In this case the burning procedure takes much longer.

I have a Satellite Pro A10 PSA15E which over the years had become very slow.

Recently I upgraded it's RAM from 256 to the maximum 1gb to try to speed things up but it did not help.

Next I reformatted the hard disc and reloaded the system using the Toshiba recovery disks. This worked fine and the system performance was excellent. However, with on-line security in mind, I loaded Windows SP2 ( with a view to subsequently go to SP3) and this has taken the system back to where I started - very, very slow, in fact pretty well unusable.

Does anyone know if Toshiba support SP2 and SP3 on this model of laptop?

If so how do you install them without killing performance?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite Pro A10 - Does SP2 or 3 slow down the XP performance?

I think SP2 or SP3 is supported on this Toshiba notebook because both Service Packs are contains really important security updates and I think this is not the problem.

If you install SP2 or SP3 you will also get the Security center and better Windows firewall. Maybe you should disable both services because the slow down the system performance (I always disable both services).
Just go to start => run => services.msc and disable both services and set the start up type to disabled.

I really hope somebody can give me an advice here..
Recently, my laptop started to work very slowly. I was using Windows Movie Maker to create some projects and it started to hang and would not save the project.. The CP usage was 100 % and the system ran out of memory quickly.. The folders with avi, wma, jpg files files did not open at all and windows explorer just hung every time I tried to open any. There was more than 20Gb of free space on system drive C and about 8Gb on local drive D.. Moreover the copy process just stopped working properly.. It took very long to copy even very small files from one location to the other.. I am not connected to the network so that should not be the issue..

I have reinstalled the OS (Windows XP SP2).. Folders with different media extensions now open.. though not very quickly. But copy process still takes very long to finish.. It is also very slow in browsing the pictures with Windows picture and Fax Viewer.

Could it be that smth is wrong with the laptop hardware or the lack of some drivers could cause the problems? What and how can I check this??? I have had this laptop for 2 years now..
I am not very good with PC hardware and not sure what could be working wrong.. I appreciate your help greatly.. Really need help here...

Thank you much

Answer:Satellite M45-S169 is very slow

Hi friend,

firstly a question: The operation system you?ve installed - is it from scratch or from recovery CD?? That could eventually explain some driver related issues.

Otherwise I would say that your HDD is not working properly. Would be better to run the disk checking tool under Windows. I would recommend you to use some "low-level" tool for checking the disc.
Maybe you should figure out from which manufacturer the harddrive is and then go to the manufacturers website and download the appropriate tool for harddrive checking.

Even if just opening Windows Explorer, sometimes geting some 10 seconds delay... Windows Experience Index is as low as 2.7 at best (Desktop Graphic). Memory and Disk peformance is OK (5+).Some Legacy applications are slower than on low end models over 10 years old (C660-14W). Service claims they tested mahine and it is OK by their tests. What should I do?

my m40 laptop have xp home operating system. Ram is 768 mb

my problem is that it takes 4 mins to reach to windows desktop. i have tested other toshiba laptops they take 1min.

i have reinstall the os 3 time but found same problem.

can any body help me.

Answer:Satellite M40 - very slow booting

It?s not easy to say why you unit takes so long. I can only suggest.
Sometimes the booting procedure takes a long time because the Anti Virus program is enabled and tries to check the OS for some viruses. Furthermore many background processes which are loaded at first could be a issue. I recommend checking the background processes, defragment the HDD and checking he settings of firewall and anti virus program.

Best regards

So my unit ordered an A300-1nt and a Dell e4300 for two of our staff which both arrived yesterday. Our IT dept handled the purchase and rolled it back to XP for us and got all our institutional software and everything on board.

The a300 is really, really slow - did some Win updates this morning and rebooted; let it get settled and then I rebooted again. From the time I clicked restart to the time the Login screen popped up was 1'57", and from there an additional 2'53" to get to a stable, responsive desktop. It took 54 seconds after logging in to play the XP login/startup sound. I have a 5 year old Celeron 2.4GHz desktop with only 1Gb ram which is quicker to boot up, and that's only got a 256kb L2 cache as opposed to the 3Mb L2-cache on the p8400 in the A300, as well as 4Gb ram in the A300.

I have now disabled the webcam autostart as well as the online product info autostart and only shaved about 6 seconds off the startup time on another reboot.

The Dell, on the other hand, is like a rocket. It's a different chip (sp9400), different chipset and DDR3 ram, but only 2gb ram and the fsb on both chips is 1066 so I'd have thought they'd be comparable, but clearly not.

I'm wondering at this point if perhaps our IT guys made a hash of the XP downgrade at some point or if perhaps the actual computer is either damaged somewhere or if the a300 is generally a slow machine - anyone have any ideas?

What is the SATA controller mode in BIOS? AHCI or Compatibility mode?

I have Satellite A300-1LI preinstalled with WXP SP3 (original Toshiba recovery image) and I?m happy with it. Performance is good.

I have been to an expert malware forum and posted Hijack This logs and this machine is more than likely clean. A while back we had to replace the modem because of heat dispersion issues (so they said) and I am afraid the thing is about to fry itself now. Are there any diagnostics out there I can use? I have defragged and it has about 79% diskspace free and it is clean. Help.

Answer:Satellite A75-S211 is very slow

Hi Larry

Tthere are many different notebooks A series and it will be interesting to know which one you have. For example I have Satellite A100 and it runs very well.

If notebook running slow I think it is mostly because of user itself and if you have enough PC experience I am pretty sure you know very well what you must do to make it faster. ;)

Do I need to install Windows XP 32bit or install Windows 2000 or any hardware upgrade (memory ... whatever)? I don`t want be disappointed by TOSHIBA!

Ill appreciate any HELP!

Answer:Satellite L300-1BW - Is very slow

Hi buddy,

Can you be a little bit more detailed, please? What do you understand with very slow?
How long it takes to startup Windows?
How long it takes to start an application?

I have to say that Windows XP 64bit wasn?t popular and there is no official support from Toshiba for this OS. If you want to use Windows XP, I can recommend installing the 32bit version.

Have you tested your notebook with factory settings? Does it work properly with preinstalled OS from Toshiba?

I?m also Satellite L300 owner and I use the preinstalled Windows XP 32bit from Toshiba. I?m very satisfied with this notebook, it?s pretty fast and need few energy. :)

My Satellite A30's recovery CDs became damaged so I aquired a full oem version of XP Home and installed that, after activation etc, I installed the drivers from the tools and utilities CDROM, however after installation the hard drive is really slow, it takes 15 mins to boot up and anything takes an age, there is nothing wrong with the harddrive as I placed it in an external case and tested it, and It was running at normal speed etc.
Does anyone have any idea on this problem??#

Answer:Slow HDD performance on Satellite A30

is your machine getting hot? Maybe that's why the performance is low.
Maybe you have to clean the cooling system.

First: Sorry for my english, but it is very bad *G*

Now my Problem:
After a reinstall (windows XP) the SP6100 is very slow. Always the System have 100% CPU usage regardless of which Programm i start. It is not the bios (latest version and all stands on CPU Power) and not the HDD, which i tested last night and completly zero formated. But the problem is also there, also with linux or Windows 2000.

I don't understand it, because before i reinstall the System, the NB was very fast.

Does someone now an answer, so i can fit the Notebook again?

Answer:very slow Satellite Pro 6100

Hello Bastian

Did you reinstall the OS using original recovery CD or Microsoft WXP (full version)? As far as I know this unit is delivered with WXP Professional. Am I right about that?

There are many reasons that can make the system much slower, installation of SP2 or maybe some additional software. Check please the running processes in task manager. Maybe are there some of them that you don?t need but can be reason for CPU and memory usage.

This is a few days old and is the slowest machine I've ever had. Does anybody have any idea what I can do to speed it up.

Is there a free windows xp I can install as I already hate this vista.

I've bought 3 toshiba laptops in the last 2 months and must admit I didn't notice this was not the same as the other 2 which are great.

Answer:Satellite L30-101 very slow with Vista

> ?Is there a free windows Xp I can install ?
No, definitely not.

Did you ever hear or see that the computer manufacture would offers an full OS download???
I didn?t. I think this would be not on behalf of Microsoft!
If you want to use another OS you have to buy it and then you can install it on your notebook?

In my eyes the unit is slower with Vista because this OS needs and waste many notebook recourses.
In my eyes it?s an one big disadvantage of the new Vista OS

Hi ...

I had bought a Satellite A350-20q some months back and I have been running it on default factory settings.

This is my first laptop and so I am not very familiar with them.

The laptop gets very slow especially if a file transfer is taking place. In fact it gets so slow that any other programs like media player classic and Windows media player starts to stutter and take a lot time to respond. The file transfer
rate starts at a good speed and then slows to about 13MBps. Is this a normal occurrence ?

The hard disk starts to make a small sound as well.. something like a muffled rattle. What could be the problem ?

Should I get the piece replaced ?

Answer:Satellite A350D is slow

How much RAM (System Memory) is in the laptop?

What Virus Scanner are you using? (ps. make sure you dont have two Virus Scanners installed, that will drastically affect performance)

Where are you copying the files from? And where are you copying the files to? (LAN? Internet? HDD? CD?)

My Notebook is too slow. What can i do? Sometimes when watching a movie I move the volume up/down at it takes 30 seconds almost to the sound goes up or down. It's slower generely.
How can I check it's prefomance? I've anti-vurus from McAfee installed.

Answer:Slow Satellite A200-1AO

First of all I would uninstall McAfee and install some Antivirus application which doesn?t need so much resources.
Then it would be interesting which operating system you have installed and which 3rd party applications are running in the background.

Could you please tell me how many RAM is installed in your machine? Maybe you should upgrade the amount of RAM in your system to raise the whole performance of your machine...

Please give some feedback and give more informations about your system and your operating system including the installed applications etc...

We bought a P200 laptop with Vista, what was according to the salemen the best he could offer.
Now, after working with it for almost half a year, the laptop is slowly.

It is like working on a 286 pc. Man, what is this thing slow?
It is constantly busy with nobody knows what. If it is not busy, it is still working like a turttle.

We went back to the store and they asured us that nothing is wrong.
Well, we are close getting mad. We would like to ask help in solving this problem.
Anybody an idea?

In the meantime we removed Mcafee and that helped a bit.
We are now using virusprotection from swisscom, what is good.

Please help us.

Answer:Satellite P200 very slow

Hi Frank

I can understand you very well. I?ve got a notebook from another manufacture with a Intel Core Dual CPU, very good graphic card and 2GB RAM.

After a couple of month and installation of different applications, Antivirus software, firewall, etc? the system performance was simply bad. Everything was slow? I mean the notebook needed several minutes to load the system and the performance of single applications was not satisfying.

My problem was that too many processes ran in the background of OS. Furthermore the whole registry was muddled up.
I have removed several applications from ?autostart? folder and cleaned the registry using the freeware software called ?CCleaner?.

Furthermore I have removed some programs which are not really necessary for me.
Last but not leas I?ve defragment my HDD and my single partitions.

I?ve got 3 partitions on the HDD. It?s much better to have more small partitions sizes as one big HDD size.

I hope I could provide some useful hints and how to increase the notebook performance.

Best regards and good luck buddy

Just been given a Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 laptop and it is running very very slow.

When no programs are running, the Task Manager processes tab indicates that the laptop is around 95% idle, but the performance tab is running at around 50% or higher.

I've run anti-virus, cleaned out a lot of software that I don't use, updated XP (service pack 3) and various drivers, but it still runs slow.

I'm guessing that I need to re-install XP, but alas I was not given a copy of the Product Recovery Disk that was shipped with the laptop.

Does anyone know if I'll be able to get hold of a copy of this disk.
If it helps, I have two XP disks available for other laptops that I own, but I don't think I'll be able to use these to re-install this copy of XP using the 25 digit serial number tag on the base of the laptop.

Answer:Very slow Satellite Pro A100

It could be that it?s a software issue but it could be if not.
What antivirus or internet security software do you use? Have you tried to install another one, e.g. AntiVir?
Furthermore you can do a lot of things to improve the performance. For example defragment the HDD, disable start up programs, clean the registry and so far. Google will help you to find more.

Last but not least it?s possible to order a recovery disk. Therefore contact the nearest authorized service provider in your country.

It takes about 15 (!!!) minutes for my Toshiba Satellite A10-131 to boot. It's really frustrating when you're on a train or somewhere else where you need your notebook for a short time. I changed the original 256DDR with faster 1024GB ram, I installed all the right and most recent drivers, I tried several formats, etc but doesn't change anything. Does anybody have any ideas ? The only thing I didn't try changing were the BIOS setting, mainly because I have no idea how that works :)

Thanks in advance!!

Answer:Satellite A10-131: Really slow boottime

It?s very strange because I have never seen a notebook which boots up to 15 min.
It would be very interesting to know if the cleaning Windows OS need also 15 min.
If yes so I assume that there is something wrong with hardware (maybe motherboard)
Unfortunately, I don?t know any BIOS options which could reduce the booting time.

Lately I've been noticing how, even in High color (16 bit) mode, this notebook has a super slow response. For example watching tiny flash movies, they stutter like you would not believe. Even compared to my old desktop PC this is slow. It has been faster, as far as I recall.

The system is clean, it loads the fewest possible drivers and services (I co-developed XP Performance edition, so there's no way it is Windows' fault here).

I checked on Intel based drivers for this (82852/82855 GM/GME), and those are much newer versions than the one on the Toshiba download site. Installing them instead of the 2003 drivers from Toshiba did not help one bit. Also, tried with and without direct-x, but still the display is extremely slow for what I think it should be.

I also noticed, but that's not new, that codecs load very slowly. If ever I load a small avi or wmv or mpeg, it takes a minute before it even starts. It seems memory management is dreadful in A30. Maybe the chipset drivers are bad, but hey, I've already tried reinstalling those as well. The latest ones from your website anyway.

Also, I have to stress that there's a lot of RAM in it already. And yes, it's the right kind of RAM (brand was sold as verified for this particular model).

Really, I have to say, I've had 486 desktops with only 4 MB of display memory in their graphic cards do all this so much faster!

Does this mean hardware is broken perhaps?

I'm considering installing an old Windows 2000 version. Ho... Read more

Answer:Slow display on Satellite A30-404

Hi there,

I wonder why you have problems with your system because if you co-developed XP Performance edition you should surely have enough experience to handle such kind of problem. ;)

I would suggest a complete reinstall of the system, newest drivers for your components and the top of the whole procedure should be a install of an codec pack like "K-lite codec pack".

If the problem then persists, another idea would be to clean the cooling system since a with dust clobbed cooling system pulls a lot of performance since the CPU throttles down which is causing such issues.

IMHO that would be essential and if the steps which I described do not help, then maybe somethin could be wrong with your hardware.

Hello guys,

Two months ago I bough my Toshiba Satellite T130 but I have a serious problem. Its becoming slower and slower... Every time I run a program (winamp, skype, etc) or even opening Control Panel I have to wait for a long time and in some in some occasions it says "Not responding.." What should I do??

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite T130 is very slow

I recommend you to download and install a program TuneUp utilities. it's shareware but you can use it free for a month. It cleans your registry, removes duplicated files and other unnecessary staff. And as addition, download Raxco perfect disk or Diskeeper to defragment your hard drive.
Your system will run fast as new one.
