My Satellite C855 is making very loud noise

Question: My Satellite C855 is making very loud noise

Hello

Today I was playing my games, as usual until my laptop starting making very, very loud buzzing noises. I instantly turned off the laptop. Left if for a bit and turned back on. Again, extremely loud noises. I'm scared to turn it back on now. Im thinking it's the fan as that is where the noise is coming from but I can't be sure.

Any advice on what to do? Any one else had this problem?

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: My Satellite C855 is making very loud noise

On this virtual way we cannot say for sure what the problem is but I can imagine that cooling fan is responsible for this.
From the first moment when you switch your notebook ON cooling fan is active so I would like to know if you can hear this noise from the first second after start-up.

Is there some other kind of vibration?

Of course it is also interesting to know if your notebook has valid warranty or not. If yes I strongly recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help.
They can order and exchange cooling vent.

Hello

I have a 2012 Satellite C855 PSCBLU-01C003 Toshiba Laptop running W8.1 The van roars loud specially when playing a game & if I'm on internet long time. I can feel the heat sometimes it's pretty hot on my arm!!(I use the mouse) I have read several of the forums but not sure to try recommendations on this PC. The PC other than that runs great. I'm worried it's going to overheat & crash completely.

Can anybody please help me? I'd really appreciate it!!!

I built my own pc about a year ago. Lately whenever I boot the machine up it makes this weird buzzing, clicking noise. It generally stops after it gets fully booted up. Then it is quiet, but sometimes it will start making a buzzing noise after it has been on for awhile (I leave it on all the time). At first I was worried it might be the hard drive, but I have not had any real trouble with the machine. I figured if it were the hard drive, it probably would have died by now or I'd have some serious issues. So, what do you think? It would have to be the power supply or one of the internal fans right? Should I replace my 400 watt power supply?

Thanks!

Answer:PC making loud noise, could it be the PS or something else??

Its probably a fan. I would take it out and take a look at it and put it back. You first have to find out wich fan it is.

I have had similar problems. I used to hit the fan a few times wih a screwdriver and it fixed the problem. I am not recommending it though. It was my PSU fan. Maybe u should clean it. Be careful.

What happened to me one is that the CPU fan's mounting came loose and was not stable. Check to see if everything looks secure on it.

Hi, when I bought my PC two years ago, it was silent, it barely made any noise. However, I later made a huge mistake. I opened the case to clean the inside of the computer with an air compressor, but while I was cleaning the fans I wasn't holding them so the air compressor made them spin faster than normal. Following that, every time I boot my PC now, it makes a loud noise and also the PC makes a lot of noise in general. A lot more than when I bought it, to a point where sleeping next to it when it is turned on is a hard thing to do. Now, I'm wondering if that mistake is the cause of the noise. When I look at the fans, they don't seem to be damaged at all. I have 3 fans: The case fan, the graphics card fan and the power supply fan. My PC is cleaned regularly so I know it's not dust or anything that's causing the problem.

Here's some interesting info: It only makes noise when it's booting after the computer has been turned off for more than 30 minutes. If it's less than that, it doesn't make the loud noise. I have no idea why. Also, about 3% of the time, the desktop doesn't get to fully load because the computer freezes. It's a problem that started at the same time the noise started. If it is indeed one or multiple fans that are broken, how can I know which one(s) is?

I made a video of when I'm booting the computer so you can hear and see what is happening.

You didn't tell us the brand and model of the computer.
Using an air compressor is very bad, because you risk the damage of static electricity that is generated in amazing amounts. Next time, us canned air designed for use in cleaning computers.
Replace the CPU fan, us buy a new CPU cleaning kit, and any fans that blow air to the outside, and replace the power supply with one of decent quality. Clean the dust of fan blades and computer walls with a soft rag soaked in denatured alcohol. Get some nylon or plastic ties to hold the cables together and away from any fans. Tie down SATA and EIDE cables so they cannot block air or rattle. Make sure all air flow passages are free and allow full movement of cooling air. All these will likely return your computer to normal. You could also buy "silent" cooling fans for very little money which would reduce your noise even more..

I have a home built computer, (not built by myself) and the power supply makes loud noise almost like the fan is hitting against something. I have checked the fan, and it is clear of all contact, and this is not constant. There are times where it will be too loud to even sleep with from across the house, and times where it runs quiet as a mouse.

When it was making the loud noise, I was moving the computer to get a good look at it, and when it hit into the corner of my desk, the impact stopped the noise. I know it is coming from the power supply fan, but there is nothing for it to be hitting so I don't know whats causing it.

Answer:Power Supply Making Loud Noise

Are you aware that there is also a fan on the CPU, inside near the power supply?

The noise started coming about a week ago. It wasn't that loud, but I would sometimes hear a vibrating sound coming from the fan of my Lenovo G555. Sometimes it would stop. But if I ever moved it, the vibrating noise would come back. But today, the noise got really loud and it wouldn't stop this time unless I shut it down or something. Why is this? Is there any solutions to get this fixed, too?

I never had this problem before until recently I noticed that my fan was making this loud buzzing noise. It was bearable at first. I thought that the fan might be dusty inside because I haven't cleaned it ever since I bought it. Last week, I tried to open the laptop so I can check why it is making that loud noise. I saw that the fan was dirty. I tried cleaning it. When I turned on my laptop, it was still making that loud buzzing noise. So I just ignored it. After a week, It suddenly got louder. It didn't sound normal anymore. I tried restarting the laptop but it still makes that noise. Its annoying. I took a video so you can hear what my fan is making.  It just keeps doing like this even if my laptop is just on stanby, like I'm not doing anything with it. This is what it sounds like when I did the Dust Removal tool on Energy Management.   Since I kept using the Dust Removal tool.. Now its making this weird noise, like the fan is getting stuck on something. I don't know what to do anymore. Its been 2 years since I bought this laptop so I don't have anymore warranty and I never had problems with my laptop except for today. I have never dropped it so I don't know why this is happening to my laptop. Please help me.

Answer:Lenovo Y510P fan making really loud noise.

Hi there, Xbelleh -
Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

This video would leave me to believe that a piece of paper or other debris shifted inside and is now coming in contact with the fan blades.

When you use the dedusting cycle the debris is temporarily being blown out of the way of the blades.  What I would do is use a can of compressed air and blow out the fan assembly from both directions and see what is blown out.  Compress air is available at any office supply store, electronics store or big box discount store.  When using the compressed air use short bursts as an extended burst may damage the fan's bearings from over revving.

Also, when using the laptop take note of its position.  If the fan is quiet on a flat surface, but is noisy when sitting at an angle like on your lap.  That might be a good indication that the fan bearings are failing.

Worst case scenario is you need a fan replacement.  The fan is something that the owner can replace if you are comfortable working inside it.

As a do-it-yourself project it can be fixed in an afternoon. At this point I would try the compress air and we'll go from there.

Update us how it goes.

OK, so for a few months now, my one year old computer's power supply box has been making a very loud noise after I start up my computer. It lasts anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes. And lately the sound comes up even when my computer has been on for any amount of time after I turned it on.I recorded the sound:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9-s7mUXfH8It's pretty loud if you're there in the same room, or even outside the room. Now, I opened up my computer because I naturally thought that it was dusty, which it was. So with my computer off, switched to 0 and unplugged, I dusted it inside and out. I made sure to hold each fan still (one on the mother board, one on my graphics card and the one in the power supply) while I cleaned the dust using a pressurized can of air. (FALCON Dust-Off Professional)I did open up my power supply and dusted everything in there to, very carefully. I then made sure that nothing was hitting the fan in the power supply while it spun, there were no obstructions, everything seemed that it'd be running smoothly. I then put everything back together and made sure everything was in place. Turned on my computer and it still made that noise. So I'm still not sure why it makes that noise. I checked to see if my computer was overheating, but it wasn't hot at all, and it's definitely in a ventilated place, all sides of it (vents) have nothing in their path. So I'm still not sure why that sound it happening or what is making it. ... Read more

I bought the HP Pavilion x360 m3 Convertible 2 in 1 laptop online from Amazon September of last year. Everything was fine until around November where it was making this soft, but noticeable mechanical sound when I turned it on. I didn't pay much attention to it because it was not obnoxiously loud at the time, and I make sure that the fans are breathing and not collecting dust. However, now it appears that the fans are like jittering and making this whining noise when I'm on. I don't run a lot of programs at once on there nor do I leave it running for a long time. The noise is really bothering me because I can't even bring it to class with me because of how loud it sounds!  I tried everything, updating the BIOS, doing system checks and diagnosis through the HP support assistance, I always keep it clean and I use compressed gas to blow the dust that I could find in or around the laptop as thoroughly as possible. Still nothing. I have no clue what to do so I hope someone can help me, please. Thanks!

even though I have only a browser on with no video. I tried re-booting it but sames problem.

It seems like some sort of fan problem because usually I can feel the heated air coming out from the side but right now I don't feel it so I guess the heat cannot escape because the fan wouldn't blow the heat out!

My warranty is over too, it's slightly over a year that I bought it.

I guess trying to fix the fan would be something that only experts can do?

Hi Girom, It sounds like the one of the laptops fans have gone , Buying a likely replacement is not so difficult if you go the Ebay route search out your model in "laptop spares and accessories" ,Installing is not too hard to do either .
I don't think a laptop cooler will help you much as it's not direct on the CPU or GPU

So my laptops fan started making this really loud rattling noise. It makes me very self-conscience about me when I'm in public, so I just don't bother bringing it along. But I really need my laptop with me. The sound usually comes out at random. I've searched the HP Part Picker Store and under the fan section it just lists the fan pad, which isn't what I need. I do believe that I need to completely replace the fan at this point (I've tried fixing the problem from cleaning the fan out from dust to checking it for any damage, but can't find what the problem is). Would anyone know where I can find a replacement fan for my laptop and would I need to buy it with the whole heat sink and thermal compound? I'm pretty experience in computer repair so I have some confidence that I can do it, plus my warranty expired in 2014 so I won't be voiding that anyways. If it helps any, the product # is A3E83AV.

The noise is usually caused by a failing fan motor bearing. You were at the wrong item name. What you need is the discrete thermal module, which contains the fan an heat sinks for the CPU and video. The part number for your notebook's product number is 682061-001. It is on the following HP PartSurfer web document. http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=A3E83AV

Hello again,

Answer:Satellite C855-12Z - strange noise even if the cooler is off

Its always difficult to talk about things which are not checked...
There are two things which could create a noise: cooling ventilators or HDD.
Cooling ventilators are not OFF? the cooling module may run at lower speed but its not completely off.

HDD spins too but it should not create any noises if the HDD is OK?

Ive also tried playing them in DivX and i'm getting the exact same ear popping static noise so the only thing that seems to be able to play them with the correct audio is Movie Maker.

I believe the sound is coming from the heatsink. Its right near the vents and its extremely loud when thecomputer is at loading temperatures. So mainly during boot up and when loading many programs. This has been like this since out of the box. Its should be such a small problem, whats the easiest and fastest way to get this fix? I have dealt with many hardware issues for cameras phones and computers, so if theres like a tuturial on opening this thing, it would be great. Thank you very much.

I put my headphones in the jack today and heard a weird background noise. When I removed them, the computer speakers were making a loud buzzing noise as well.  The buzzing noise comes and goes and disappears if I mute the computer's volume.  I cannot hear any audio on my computer now (no music, videos, noise at start up/shut down, etc.). I have tried updating the sound drivers and restarting the computer several times, but to no avail.  I have also tried to get sound with and without external speakers attached, with and without headphones in, etc. and I can only occassionally get the loud buzzing noise which is coming directly from both of the speaker vents on the bottom of the computer.  Thoughts on a solution?

Hey all,

First timer here with very little computer experience. I've been browsing the forum via google, and I noticed a bunch of people had the same problems as I do right now. However, I have no idea if I have the same problem as them, and I would be grateful if someone walked me through this. I have a DELL latitude D620 running XP SP3. I use McAfee Total protection 2012.

Basically, in the past month or so, my CPU has been gradually increasing to the point where every couple of seconds it becomes 100%. The computer is still usable, but it overheats signficantly and I want to catch the problem (if there is one) before it becomes worse. The biggest contributers to this problem are services.exe and about 8 different svchost.exe running at once (sometimes ALOT more than that). These typically take up at least 50% of the CPU at any given time.

Hello all,

I've been having this problem for a long time now (2 years) and no matter what I do I can't get rid of it.

My PC will freeze and make very loud buzzing noises a few times a day, even when left idle in the middle of the night it will sometimes wake me up with the buzzing sounds coming out of my headphones.

I'm clueless at this point as for what to do,I replaced my Motherboard,my network adatper, I disabled my sound card, played around with the BIOS settings and nothing works.

There is one way which seems to consistently recreate the freeze & buzzing sound and thats only when I run low graphic games and let me explain:

I can play heavy 3D games with demanding graphics and the PC wont freeze (Actually don't think it ever froze while I was playing a 3D game) however It will freeze after less than 10 minutes if I play a low demanding game like Stardew Valley,League of legends or even when the PC is just Idle or while listening to music on youtube.

I ran Memtest86 and Prime95 and didn't find any errors and the event viewer errors seem to just say its Error 41 which is an unexpected shutdown.

I would really be greatful if someone can help me solve this annoying problem for once and for all,I've been living with it for so long,it makes me paranoid when I'm gonna hear it while listening to music (the sound gets you jumped every time..)

Have been having boot up problems, going to safe mode to start, in the process I have to turn the power all the way off to get the computer to start, I was getting the usual outage noise when a computer is improperly turned off, now the noise will not stop and the computer will not boot at all.

Answer:XP making continuous loud whirling noise when starting system, no boot up

Sounds to me that maybe its a bios problem . When booting the default place that windows looks to get its startup info from is the HDD. If that was changed, say to cd drive then it would look there. No info there would mean its stuck in limbo. Try searching the site for bios or boot up problems. This situation is far from new and ,hopefully its not your machine, you will find the right solution for you.

Hi!

I got an iPod for X-Mas and I just downloaded iTunes on my work and home laptop computers. Something is wrong because since then both computers make a very loud noise when I load a CD. It still reads it though but the noise and the vibration are definitely not normal...it seems to be related to iTunes. I searched on-line and read that it could be related to GEARAspiWDM.sys which is installed automatically with iTunes...? I looked for it on my computer and didn't seem to find it...and anyway I'd rather have someone's advice before removing a system file. Any clue?

Thank you and Happy New Year!!!

Hi,
I have a strange thing going on with my fan, she keeps making a loud noise despite the laptop is cool.

What is even stranger is when i play a game, the laptop become hotter of course and the fan start turning with high speed but with a normal noise, it almost disappears after 15min gaming or so..
and when i close the game the laptop starts to cool down and the fan starts to be loud.
btw, i opened the laptop, and i cleaned the every component, i disassembled the fan and cleaned it, it wasn't that dirty since the laptop is almost two years old, but i didn't renew the thermal paste in the cpu or the graphic card. but i dont think that matters since the laptop is cool when the fan is being noisy.

I read on other forums that the noise might be louder depending on the device or that a BIOS update might help slowing down the fan activity when the laptop is running idle. Does someone know if there is a remedy to the fan noise?

For me it is really impossible to work with such an ongoing noise!!!

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Loud Fan noise on Satellite Z830-10J

At the moment don?t think about BIOS update.
What you should try at first is to change ?Cooling method settings?.

Open power profile that you use (probably Balanced) > Advanced power options > Toshiba Power Saver Settings > Cooling Method and change both options to ?Battery Optimized?.

It should reduce cooling fan activity.

I bought L555-12V at MediaMarkt two days ago. The fan noise is terribly loud.
The fan turns at 70-80% with a CPU load of just 2 or 3 % when just surfing with firefox and no other open programs.

It sounds like a hair-drier. It's so loud you can't stand to be near the laptop for more than 10 minutes. This makes it impossible to work with.

I have tried everything. Uninstalled unnecessary software, altered the Windows power profiles, changed the Toshiba Power Saver settings; on ?maximum performance? the fan never turns off and on ?battery optimized? the fan is off for a minute then on at an incredibly loud 80% for a minute and so on. On/Off.

Is anyone else having these problems with fan noise?

Is this the same problem that A500 owners had with the BIOS 1.20 on their machines?

Will there be a BIOS update for the L555-12V like there was for the A500?
This cured their fan noise fault. At present there is no new BIOS posted on the support page.

If not I will have to take the laptop back for a refund. I would find that a shame as the laptop seems otherwise fine. However this machine is unusable for any length of time in it's current state.

> changed the Toshiba Power Saver settings; on ?maximum performance? the fan never turns off and on ?battery optimized? the fan is off for a minute then on at an incredibly loud 80% for a minute and so on. On/Off.

maximum performance means that the cooling modules would run with full power. This means that the fan will run always!

battery optimized means that the cooling fans will start to rotate only if the temperature would reach an certain level? therefore the cooling modules goes off if the temperature would decreases and would start again if the temperature level would increase?

> Will there be a BIOS update for the L555-12V like there was for the A500?
Who knows? I have checked the Toshiba European driver page and didn?t find an BIOS update for L555-12V (PSLWSE) series? I found a BIOS only for PSLW8E series?

However, I think you should wait a little bit and should check the driver page in the next time? maybe new BIOS would be available?

Hi ,

I have a strange thing going on with the fan, it makes a loud noise when the laptop is at cool temperature.

Other strange thing is when i open a demanding app like games, the laptop starts to be hotter of course and the fan became to her normal sound. when i close the game, the laptop gets cooler and the noise of the fan cameback.
i opened the laptop and i cleaned the components, such as the fan, and nothing has changed.
since the temperature is low i dont think i have to change the thermal paste in the cpu and the gpu.

tldr; loud strange noise of fan when laptop is cool, and a normal sound while opening a demanding app.

Hi there!

I helped my neighbour to find a new laptop, and the whole setup and startup.

We ordered a C670-11Q and it works really well, theres just one annoyance.
The disc makes some loud clicking noises, not like a dying or working disc. It's the same sound as when you turn of a disc, just much louder. I guess it's the "disc reading arm" that goes into it's safe position.

I don't know if this laptop has a shock sensor to do this? The laptop was sitting flat on the table, and there where NO vibrations while it's doing it. There are no clicks while under load, but they occur randomly while idling or normal surfing/writing.

I also checked power saving options and disabled them to turn of the disc, no help.
This also seemed weird, because the clicks often occur several times in a row. But it definitely does it more when running on battery.

I'm running the newest BIOS and drivers from the support area (as of yesterday).
The disc is set to performance mode, i didn't test battery saving - should i?

And no, the disc hasen't taken any beating. I was the first person to turn it on.

The drive is from Hitachi, i ran their analysis - no errors.

Any help is greatly appreciated :o)

One of my notebook?s HDD makes such noise too.

I?m not exactly sure why but I think also that this is the disks head which moves into save position.

However, I think that this is not really a malfunction since the notebook runs pretty well and I didn?t notice any problems with the HDD or the files? but I created a backup of my files? just to be safe ? you know?
I think you should backup the date just to be safe?

Hello,

yesterday I have buy the Satellite P200-1ft.

The problem: the second harddisk is very loud.
I never heard a notebook that is so loud like this thing, it's never normal.

Can I send the harddisk to toshiba or must I send the complete Notebook to reclame the harddisk?

Answer:Satellite P200-1ft: second harddisk makes a loud noise

Hi Uli

You cannot send only a notebook part to the Toshiba authorized service provider.
If you think something is wrong with the HDD then you have to contact the ASP in your country and the guys should be able to help you.

But note; if the HDD is loud then this doesn?t mean that there is a hardware malfunction.
My HDD clicks and makes some noises since 3 years but it runs well, without any troubles?

Greetings mate

Hello,

Recently my laptop cooling fan started running continously with a loud noise. When the screen is idle it stops for few sec and starts again. I have changed the power options to balanced in control panel but it didnt work. Even the BIOS is the latest one. Refering to discussion forums I have changed to 'selective start up' thru 'msconfig' but nothing worked.

It is 8 months old. The noise is very disturbing. Can anyone please help me in this regard?

Many Thanks

Hi buddy,

I never heard about something like this?

Have you already tested it with battery optimized cooling method? Balanced power profile uses also maximum performance for cooling so you have to edit the power profile and choose battery optimized cooling for every power profile on battery and AC adapter. An information about all power plan options you can find here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD84026Q0000R01.htm

You wrote that your notebook is already 8 months old. Did you clean it in the past?

Hello, My name is Maria and I am from Moscow.

I have purchased this laptop (Toshiba Satelite L 670-15) on 16th of december 2010 and from the very beginning I had problems with it. Before I managed to install any programs, it said to me: " There isn't enough memory", I couldn't install important updates and software was working very slow. I took it to the service center RSS and by warranty they changed a harddrive there and reinstalled Windows.

Later, approximately in a month, my laptop began to get hot, very bad, like iron and to turn off. My friend cleaned and blew the laptop with a canned air. First three weeks it worked good, then the problem repeated. Before the end of my warranty period left not so many time and I took it to the service center again.

They took my laptop and said: "Your laptop is getting hot, it needs to be cleaned, it is not warranty fixing and it will cost 1750 rubles (about 54 dollars). Is it normal? Why at least on the warranty period you can not offer me a free fixing? It?s nothing unusual that notebook?s cooling fans needs to be cleaned from time to time. I do that with my two different notebooks from different manufacturers.
I use my notebook at home, the other while traveling and both needs to be cleaned. I use a simple compressed air spray to get the dust removed.
This is good enough to keep the cooling modules clean.

Here is a nice and useful document from Toshiba knowledge base:
+How to clean the cooling system of a Toshiba notebook+

But if cleaning the cooling modules does not help, I would recommend changing the settings in power management of the Win 7.
Go to:
Changes in Operating System:
Control Panel --> Power Options --> Change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings --> Cooling Method

Here try the setting: Max performance.

Furthermore go to TOSHIBA HW Setup -->... Read more

Hi,

have bought few month's ago Toshiba Satellite U400 and everything was perfect and i just bought it because i do not like sounds.
When i surf on the net i like it to be quite, but these last 5 days it has started to sound.

Toshiba U400 works and it takes out to much "Air" from the side and just sound all the time, even if i open IE or MSN or anything, and before it just did sometime but now it does often.

Please help me because this is very annoying and it sounds to much, and i do not like it, why has this start to happend now and not before? and what can i do about it?

thnx.

Answer:Satellite U400 - loud noise coming from cooling modules

Hi

What you can do?
Well, first of all you have to ensure that your cooling modules holes are free of dust.
I recommend using the compressed air spray in order to remove the dust from cooling grilles and fans.
In most cases the dust prevents the air circulation which causes a higher temperature and therefore fans would rotate faster.

Secondly you could change the power saver settings to ?more battery like?.
If you are using Win XP then you should check the Toshiba Power Saver.
There you could set the CPU processing speed and cooling performance to a lower level

Anyone had this? Machine only a couple of months old. Just desktop usage. Has happened about 3 times now.

Suddenly makes very loud noise - more like a road drill than anything else - then crashes.

Answer:Satellite Pro L850 - very loud buzzing/drilling noise before crashing

Is this noise produced by cooling fan or HDD activity? Maybe both of them?

Of course it is not easy to say what is wrong there but I presume some background activity may be responsible for that.
Or have you noticed that some application that you use ends with system crash.

Maybe the small ball bearing of the fan malfunctions?

Hi

Hope this is the right forum.

I have a Toshiba Laptop A60 series, I don't know if its satelliate or Equium but it's A60.

Anyway this week the AC adaptor appears not to be working. I had it plugged in and initally it seemed it was not charging the laptop even though the light on the adaptor was on and now the light doesn't come on and all I can hear is a beeping noise - even when it's not plugged into the laptop,

My laptop is now on zero battery power so I can't even turn it on, it's just flashing amber all the time.

I take it the AC adaptor is just not working? Do I have to get a new adaptor? Please tell me I don't have to geta new laptop - I still have stuff on there I want to keep.

many thanks

Answer:Satellite A60 - AC adaptor not working and making a beeping noise

> My laptop is now on zero battery power so I can't even turn it on, it's just flashing amber all the time.
In my opinion this is not a AC adaptor issue?
If the notebooks power LEDs just flashing amber then this would mean that an error (possible motherboard) has been detected.
The blinking LED provides an error code and this can be read by a notebook technician.

In your case I would not buy an new AC adaptor because you are not 100% sure what cases this issue. In my opinion the notebook should be checked to find out what the issue could be and then you could decide about the further handling.

The sound is coming from the left side by the fan and the side vent. It started a few weeks ago and ever since it has been driving me insane. It comes and goes, but when it comes it stays for a while. It kind of sounds like a buzzing noise...but more like something is inside the computer. I can temporarily make the sound stop by pushing down on the plastic, but when I release it it comes right back. I tried tightening the screws on the bottom of the laptop..but it doesnt seem to help.

Also, my computer sucks at streaming videos. It always stops playing and starts right back up a second later, but it's just annoying. It downloads the videos fine, just playing is rough.

Anyone know what could be causing these problems?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A215 making annoying noise

Use a can of air to clean the fans - see if that fixes the noise.

Streaming videos requires a certain bandwidth to stream consistently. So when you download videos, movies, music what is the kb/s that it downloads? My guess is you don't have very fast internet connection speed so you can download stuff fine (slow but fine) and you can't watch streaming videos because it requires a minimum bandwidth to keep up with the video (pausing the movie will allow the download to get ahead of what is being played).

Google speakeasy speed test, run a few of those and let us know your bandwidth speeds.

Hi All, this is not a support request, but a record of poor craftsmanship on Toshiba's side. Maybe it will help someone NOT TO BUY their machines. I have a Satellite P55W-B5224 and the fan is making horrible noise every time I start a program or do anything that raises CPU usage even slightly. I believe Toshiba is doing a crappy job designing computers or maybe they use poor quality parts. In my case, the fan started rattling horribly after a year or so. Recently I bought a replacement fan on eBay, but that didn't last a month. What I discovered replacing the fan is that it's very flimsy and the design is really stupid. They should know better. I don't know what to suggest if you have one of these bad PCs. You'd have to replace the fan, but if you can get a different computer that would probably be a better solution, because, like I said - it will keep happening over and over again. My PC is 3 years old and if I sell it now I will lose a lot of it's value (unlike Mac laptops). So, I'm kind of stuck with it. But if I get more money I will sell it anyway and get something else that doesn't have this stupid fan problem. All the best.

I specifically bought the Toshiba Satellite (my fourth in a row) to take advantage of the lovely harmon/kardon speakers.

I find that the volume is going loud and soft all the time, specifically going softer when there appears to be something in the music (or whatever Im listening to) that would normally go louder. It's almost as if it is trying to 'normalise' the volume. Whatever is happening, it sounds terrible.

I've done a quick search on thee forums and I can't see a solution. I have seen on the greater internets (simply google Toshiba loud soft" and it pops up) someone else with the same problem.

Hi everybody, I would like some help!

I recently bought a new fan to help with cooling as the summer approaches. My new fan replaces my old chassis fan but is plugged in slightly differently as it is plugged into the 3 pin mother board connector (the old one was plugged into the molex and is now positioned as an intake fan at the front).

My problem is that since I've installed the new fan my computer is actually louder than before, Everest tells me that the revs for the new fan are 5114 rpm as I type this so it's clearly working too hard. I think it's working too hard because my processor fan is only idling by comparison at 1705 rpm. Which temperature does the chassis fan use to control it's speed and why has my CPU fan suddenly become lazy since I installed the new fan? Is there anything I can do to make the CPU fan work harder and take some of the burden off of the chassis fan?

Many thanks for any help!

Hi,

I recently upgraded the ram in my pc from 1.5gb to 2.5gb as it seemed to be getting pretty slow. I was expecting a pretty big jump in performance but it doesn't seem to have happened.

The pc can sometimes be faster than it was and sometimes it really drags. There is also an intermittent loud noise which i believe is coming from the fan and when this happens the pc is slow.

I took out the fan and cleaned all the dust from it but this noise still starts every couple of minutes and the pc becomes slow.

Any ideas?

Answer:Loud Noise from PC. Don't think it is the HDD

Two things to consider...
The amount of memory doesn't have much to do with speed unless some process can specifically use that extra memory. You can to more things well, but not necessarily more rapidly.

You system will utilize all memory at the speed of the slowest module. If you have some memory that is value ram or other inexpensive ram, the timings could be significantly different than the best brands and models.

Your system only uses what memory it needs, not what you want it to use. As long as the RAM meets the requirements of the motherboard, it will not protest.

If you want some programs to run at optimum performance levels, all memory must be identical. It is wise to buy matched sets of RAM from the same manufacturer at the same time to get the ultimate performance. Top memory is already sold in matched sets in the same plastic wrap. Otherwise, you have to look at the timings and other information posted on the package or the label.

Question: A Very Loud Noise

I was working in the computer area one night. Of four computers, I was using two, one had been shut down for the night, and the last had been left on, but was unused.Suddenly the room was filled with a very loud noise. We are talking quite loud, almost like a fire alarm - uncomfortably loud to the ears. My first thought was an alarm on the UPS. I checked it, and it was fine. Then I thought maybe a fan bearing gone bad on one of the computers. I shut down the one not being used. Nothing. So then in spite of losing work, I felt it urgent enough to immediately shut down the two computers I was using. Nothing. So my next thought was fans in the room. Shut them down - nothing. Then I thought maybe the lights. Nothing. So my final thing was to unplug the computer that was already shut off - Bingo! What a surprise. I wasn't sure if the noise was from the computer or from the surge protector it was plugged into, so I ran an extension cord across the room. It ran fine about 3 days and then the noise came again, not quite as loud this time, but still loud.So I am thinking power supply or motherboard. The frequency and texture of the sound is the same as the squeal you get from the computer when you disconnect the power and the electricity drains from the system, except that that sound is mildly soft, but it gives you an idea of the nature of the sound. So I'm thinking maybe the motherboard is alarming me about something, but why so loud? And why continuous and won't go of... Read more

Hey everyone! I just got a new u310 a few days ago. It has Windows 8 installed. I started working on the notebook, hoping the fan noise would eventually stop but it is really really noisy. I installed a software, which would indicate a temperature of 36C, so usually the fan shouldn't be working on such a high level in the first place. I have read a couple of posts about this, but no one seems to have found a solution for tge U310 specifically. Does anyone have the same problem? I thought maybe there is a BIOS update which would help...? Thanks a lot, Sonni

Answer:U310 loud fan noise

hi Sonni_87,

The loud fan noise that you're hearing, is it a:1. A wind noise?
     - If it is, this is normal as faster fan speed causes wind noise on the vents (this usually happens if you're getting unusual heat and the fan spins at a higher rate to cool down the CPU/GPU.

2. A grinding / rattling noise?
     - this indicates that the fan is struggling - It's possible that it's hitting something, is dirty or is starting to wear out and needs to be replaced.

Also, the BIOS can configure on how the fan spins. It's possible that the configuration is set to make the fan spin at a higher rate even on less load on the CPU/GPU (like in this article). In this case, you may need to contact lenovo report this issue

I am having SL400 Thinkpad. for the past few days it is acting weirdly. My hard disk is making lot of noise. Initially I thought it is coming from CPU fan. But when I observed ThinkVantage active protection - It is displaying auto repetitive shocks.  This sound is just too loud. I cannot hear anything if I switch on my laptop.  Now, my laptop performance become very slow even though I am having Core2Duo with 4GB RAM. My laptop is one yr old and it's warranty is over in April. OS is Vista.  Appreciate if anyone has suggestions to fix this problem.

Answer:SL400 - HDD Loud Noise

if it is making lot of loud noise, then it could be a sign of bearing is worn out on the hdd. Try to do a hdd health check through the BIOS menu, and see whether you have any errors on the hdd.

I think Lenovo allows you to extend warranty provided that the day of renewal is within 30 days of the warranty expiration. You should call them up and see if that is possible.

Aftermarket hdd is pretty cheap too, a 500 gig one is around 80 or 90 USD on newegg.com. If you buy the WD and Seagate brand, there is a manufacturer provided copy of the Acronis Trueimage where you can transfer the entire hdd image from the old hdd to the new hdd.

When the laptop is put into the sleep mode and while closing the lid, a loud noise comes from the place near the touchpad. The sound goes off when the lid is opened. It is happening since a month.
The sound is not coming from the speakers. It is coming from inside the laptop.

Answer:Loud Noise while closing lid

Hi Arun,Thanks for the response.I would suggest you to enable the audio device and uninstall the audio driver. Then restart the system and Windows would automatically try to install the sound driver. Run the Windows Audio Playback Diagnose and Repair from the below mentioned MS FIX-IT http://support.microsoft.com/mats/AudioPlayback/ You may also run the hardware diagnostics to check if there is a hardware failure. To run the diagnostics you can get the instructions from the online videos available on the following link: http://dell.to/Sm161v Once you open the above page, under the option, “All Videos” select Dell Tools & Services >> Then select Dell Support Center–PC Checkup/Offline Diagnostics Please find the screenshot below:1. Click Start, All Programs, Dell, Dell Support Center and Launch PC Checkup. 2. Click the PC Checkup button and then click Run Custom Scan. Note: If the hardware is detected but the driver is not installed, instead of Run Test, the field will read Disabled. In the given list, click to select the script or component test desired and follow the onscreen prompts to complete the diagnostic. Please reply with the findings. Thanks & Regards Vishal S #iworkfordell

I hear this off and on. I did not think it came from within my computer at first so thought little of it. But one day my neighbour came over and whilst we were talking we both heard this noise it was like a door banging shut furiously. I thought somebody upstairs or wherever didnt care for the rest of us but my visitor said it was from my computer. But how come, where from, I couldnt for the life of me think what was causing it. Has anyone else experienced such a thing? Liza

Answer:Loud noise from ? computer

Computers normally whine or clatter, sometimes alarms sound for overheat.Load bangs are usually terminal straight away. CD breaking in drive, PSU dying or motherboard blowing. The only thing I can think of is possibly hard drive heads catching on platters.SO I suggest you back up anything important immeditely.

I just got my new XPS 2710 a week ago. All things working perfectly (Windows 8 not too exciting)  except the fan noise. I have no application consuming CPU, memory is low and no network activity still I hear the fan running a bit higher than normal.
Does anyone has seen this or has recommendation before I call support and debug.

thanks

Answer:New XPS One 2710 loud fan noise

Hi pkmaster,
The fan could be running at a higher speed due to any Windows background services accessing the processor resources. However, I suggest you to run the hardware diagnostics to check if all the components are working properly and particularly on the Processor and the fan by following the steps provided in the following link:http://dell.to/OUGnqT
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Hi guys, I just bought this Lenovo Ideapad 510s 13IKB 80V0.The fan is terribly noisy. It's very noisy at low speed, terribly noisy at high speeds and it is running loudly all the time even when the computer is idle just after start-up!I can't even make a skype call because of the fan noise. This is very fustrating. I have updated the driveres but it didn't improve. Is there a specific drive update which solves this? Some people suggest using a fan control software. I'm afraid this will damage or reduce the lifetime of some components. Can it affect the warranty? Please help me, thank you very much!

Once in a while, my XP loads up without sound.
Most often, I do have sound.
But, when it loads with sound I get a loud banging noise - sometimes one sometimes two, then everytjhing is OK.
Would I ever be able to get it loading without the banging noise(s)?
Much obliged!

Answer:Loud noise, once or twice at start-up.

Obviously, there is a problem. I have no idea what the "banging noise" could be. "Banging" would seem to indicate something is loose and bouncing around in the case.

There is a loud and griding kind of noise while i use my laptop. It is so annoying and it keeps on vibrating the laptop too.My laptop model number is HP ENVY M6 1215TX .I have been using it for the past 3 years now and there has been no heating issues or fan issues. Please tell me what to do.Should i get the fan  replaced or laptop serviced? And around what will it cost me if i go for the replacement of the fan? (My laptop is not covered in warranty)

Answer:Loud fan noise and vibration

Well the problem is unquestionably the fan. The replacement process is shown on p. 73 of the Manual here: Manual Where do you live (country)? I ask because I am not familiar with what service technicians charge for this kind of work in every country. In the US I can tell you the part would be maybe $15-20US and the labor would be $80-150. If you have some skills at following a manual and maybe a video it is something you can do yourself.  http://www.ebay.in/itm/New-CPU-Cooling-Fan-for-HP-Pavilion-M6-M6T-M6-1000-m6-1002xx-m6-1035dx-m6-/11... We are happy to help as much as possible.

Question: Realtek loud noise

Hello,

I have Realtek Microphone in Recording settings of sound and Realtek Digital Output in Playback.

I did not make any updates for my Windows 10 64-bit for last few weeks or changes in settings, and this problem stats when I start my computer today.

I tried to use Skype, but it turned out that my microphone stopped working, my voice is not heard. Then I tried to record voice with sound forge and same here, it should be noted that I do not get just an empty track with zero sound, record just does not happen. It is different things. But most horrible thing I got now is a very loud noise which almost hurts your ears. Noise occurs if I'm trying record something, answer to the skype, and also I got some low clicking sound of very loud short sound each time I'm trying to on video or audio, or switch it with timeline.

I've updated all drivers in Device Manager:

Microphone (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Realtek Digital Output (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Stereo Mix (Realtek High Definition Audio)

and it says the best driver software for your device is already installed.

So I have no idea what to do. Can't get if it is system problem or something wrong with hardware.

Question: Loud Beeping Noise

I installed a 200gig hd in my comp, with my 80 gig thats already in there. Everything was good, windows loaded fine, but today my computer light started blinking on and off and my comp made a loud continuous beeping sound. Whats up? Its completely random, and it usually stops making that sound after 10-20 sec.

Answer:Loud Beeping Noise

First guess would be that your system is not getting enough love from your power supply.

Go here: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/ and calculate how much your system needs, then open up your case and look at the sticker on your PSU to see how many watts it is putting out.

I was using my PC and all of the sudden it started making a loud almost rattling sound. I shut it off, waited a little and restarted it. It went away for a few minutes and then came back. I opened up the case to see if I could find where the noise was coming from and it seemed to be coming from one of the fans. I unplugged the power to that fan and now it is quiet again.

Do fans go bad? Is there a fix for this or do I just need to get a new fan?

Hi! I purchased Yoga 900 (part number 90UE002VUS) - 16GB Memory with 512 GB SSD. I hear the fan running loud and continuously even after closing all the applications. Is this normal? I thought SSD's are supposed to be ultra quiet, but this unit has an i7 processor, so maybe it's the processor that's forcing the fan to stay on. However the only application that I've set to run in the background is Sophos Anti-Virus. But even with that app turned off, I hear the fan come on very frequently and stay on with a loud noise for extended periods of time.I wonder whether I have a defective unit and need to get it replaced. If others have experienced this problem and found a solution, I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks

Answer:S10-2 loud beeping noise

hi sunstreaker,

Thank You for using Lenovo Community Forums!

I'm Thinking about stuck key or button on your system.
Can you try running Passmark Keyboard Test a key or button will show red on the image if it is being pressed or held down.

Try doing a BIOS Reset as well
Keep on hitting F2 when you turn it on,
Once inside BIOS, hit f9 to load default and f10 to save and exit

Best Regards

The fan of my less-than-half-a-year-old T470 suddenly began to emit strange noise (video). I tried to apply a vacuum cleaner to the fan output to remove possible external pieces that might cause it (didn?t work) and also looked on the fan with the back panel removed (cannot see anything unusual). Is there a chance to fix this without going to the service? Thanks

Recently, I upgraded my graphic card. From FX5200 to 6600GT. And I got a new Power Supply. The power suply i got was 450watt Ultra neon (which was about 40 dollars).
And my computer noise has increased enormously. Has the system noise been increased because the power supply is not of good quality?

And if i get a better power supply, will the noise level drop?

thanks

Well a lenovo, used for a year and a buzzing loud crackling fan noise problem... Aren't we surprised!!!Useless to ask for a BIOS update for a essential product, they didn't care to give one for a thinkpad. Here's the problem though...The laptop makes a buzzing fan noise. That is not a fan running at full speed. This noise is more like a buzz of a large fluoroscent tube. And will stop, well, if you tap it, knock it, or use your acquired accupressure massage tricks for the revered Lenovo products. Problem is it will reappear after a few minutes or seconds depending on your luck. Lenovo don't seem to provide any off shelf fans at least in India for the product. Even the cpu temp seem to be rising. It has touched 70C for i53210m.(room temp at 26C, load 100% for arnd 30 sec, avg load 6%)My question is with the temperature on the higher side, and the fact that I cannot feel much air from the fan, how do I know the gurgarating buzzing loud fan is actually working or needs to be changed?

Hi,

It might just need a cleaning.  Here's your Hardware Maintenance Manual .  That should show you how to gain access to it.

Answer:loud noise on startup

What model? Have you taken off the cover to look inside? Has it been moved recently? Sometimes a wire can get caught rubbing in one of the fan blades.Or it could be taking off.Let us know what you find.

Sitting there as usual, looking at email, nothing out of the ordinary,

all of a sudden, from nowhere, LOUD whirring noise coming from CPU.

Never heard this before.

Rebooted---it's gone. Maybe this SSs help, I've never really been one to understand performance data. I've left the PC on for a week- usually shut it down nightly. Could it be the temp?

Answer:Loud whirring noise

Helllo Eknirb,

From looking at your top image from Task Manager, it looks like you had a spike in CPU usage there for a bit. That spike may have cause your built-in motherboard fan controllers to rev up the CPU fan to keep it cooler with the quick increase (spike) usage.

Monitor your CPU temps to make sure that they are not high or spiking on you as well to be safe. 45C as your showing in the last screenshot is ok. If they are high all the time, the CPU fan or heatsink may be loose, or you may need to clean and replace the thermal past on the CPU heatsink.

If the usage is spiking on you randomly, then you can look under the CPU bar in Resource Monitor to help see what is using so much of the CPU.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
