Satellite C70D-A-11T - Sound doesn't work with HDMI

Question: Satellite C70D-A-11T - Sound doesn't work with HDMI

I have buy a Satellite C70D-A-11T and pass it on Windows 7 64 bits Home Premium.
I install all the drivers and I haven't any problems.

When I want to connect it to my TV for first time, I discover there is no sound on the TV.
I try to go on the speaker (near the clock of windows), right click, sound, first tab (I think it is "Playback" in english... I have a french Windows) and my device (TV) doesn't appear.

I come back on Toshiba Support website to download the last driver "HDMI Audio driver" for my laptop, I connect the cable, and it appear in the sound properties. I select it as my default device and the sound come right from my TV.

Great !

But when I restart my laptop (with or without the HDMI cable), the TV disappear from the list in the sound properties, the only one solution to recover the sound is to reinstall the HDMI Audio Driver.
If I start the driver installation with the "advanced" option, I have the list of drivers to install and I see all drivers are already installed, but the HDMI Audio Driver will be upgraded... I install it and it work until the next restart.

Could you explain me why the version of the driver don't stay on the system, and how to make it work without reinstall it everyday ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello i'm new here :)

i bought a new Toshiba Satellite C70D-B-108 but the Fn button doesnt work. Does somebody know i can fix it? The laptop runs on Windows 8 with a "classic shell".

Answer:The FN button doesn't work on my new Satellite C70D

Check please settings for ?Function keys mode?. There are two ways to use F keys:
-Special function mode ? use F keys only
-Standard F1 ? F12 mode ? use FN+Fx key

Check the settings please.

By the way: do you use original preinstalled Win8.1 that you got with your machine?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-300 doesn't work properly

There are too many problems.
In my opinion you should reinstall original recovery image and test notebook functionality with “factory settings” again.

Is this an option for you?

I tried to connect my Satellite R630 X via HDMI with my Full HD 1080p Sharp LC-32XL8E tv.

The tv will recognize the connection but reports an "incompatible signal" and stays black.
The Satellite turns screen into black and will only come back if I disconnect the HDMI-cable.

If I connect via RGB too, the Satellite will work in RGB and (!) HDMI mode, but with the native resolution from 1366x768.
Trying to use RGB-Mode and changing the resolution to 1920x1080, any resolution above 1400 will not be displayed.

I think, that the Sharp and the Satellite will not communicate correct about the possible resolutions.
Two other (older!) notebooks I've tried with the same tv will work well: I connect the tv and the tv will show the desktop in the right way.

What can I do? I cannot access to any options while the Laptop is connected per HDMI, because the two displays only will show black screens. When I disconnect, the Satelite will not give any possibility to adjust a monitor, that isn't connected actually.

Answer:Satellite R630 - HDMI doesn't work

Hi Verwaiser,

How do you switch to the TV? You can test FN+F5 key combination to do this. Then you can switch between all monitors (internal and external).

Furthermore I would test another cable in your case.

Also try updating the display driver. You can download newest version on official Toshiba website: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Check this!!!

I've tried almost everything, but it doesn't seem to recognize the HDMI as sound player. Image is good, but sounds keep playing from the speakers of the laptop itself.

I've checked the playback tab on the sound config and it doesn't appear HDMI device to select.

I've also checked on the Device Manager and uninstalled the "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" wich was automatically updated once reset the laptop, but I didn't appreciated any changes at all.

It is there any concrete driver to install?

Please, any advice will be much appreciated.

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro C50-A doesn't reproduce sound via HDMI

Wait a moment.
When you see the content on the TV please open sound properties in control panel > playback and check entries there.

Click with right mouse button thee and choose both options (show disabled, disconnected devices).
Usually HDMI output should be listed as disabled device and you can enable it manually.

Disable speakers and enable HDMI device and everything should be OK.

I have a new Toshiba Satellite L775 with HDMI output.

I wanted to connect the notebook to my TV for looking pictures via HDMI.
But it didn't work.
I connected the notebook with HDMI wire to my Samsung-LCD-TV.
Both, wire and TV already work. (Normally I use the wire for receiver to TV, without any problems).

I tried to change the output with Fn+F5 to TV-monitor (or TV-monitor & notebook).
But the TV doesn't detect the notebook, anyway.

What's wrong?

Thank you for solutions.

Best regards

Answer:HDMI output doesn't work on Satellite L775

> But the TV doesn't detect the notebook, anyway.
Does the notebook detect TV? With other words, when you use FN+F5 are several options available including HDMI option?

I presume your TV has several HDMI ports so if you use HDMI1 switch TV to HDMI1 port and when you do this use FN+F5 key combination on your notebook and chose HDMI option on TV only.

I'm on a HP pavilion that came prepackaged with vista, but reloaded with windows XP, if that helps at all.

Now I've been trying to google this problem. And everyone says go to my sound settings in control panel and change my audio playback to HDMI.

The problem is that option never shows up. It's just my laptop speakers and that is it. Everyone else can seem to fix this problem by doing that. But not me :/

Answer:Sound doesn't work on TV using HDMI out. Picture is fine.

What is the video port on the computer end? is it DVI or HDMI? If the laptop port (not the TV) is a DVI connector and you are using an adapter to adapt it to HDMI, DVI does not carry sound. You can connect the audio using a cable from the Head Phone jack to RCA. to plug into your TV or stereo.

To be honest I don?t know 100% what your problem is.
If you want to watch DVD movie on your computer using Toshiba DVD player but the pic should be shown on the external display please do as follow:

When you have connected HDMI cable to external (other) screen, use FN+F5 and switch to this external display only. When you see desktop on the external display start Toshiba DVD player and I think everything should be OK.

Hello there,
I have a Windows 7 Home Premium Lenovo IdeaPad Z575. I connected it to my 37" lcd TV (Acoustic Solutions) via a HDMI cable and the laptop detected the new display using the AMD Vision Engine Control Centre, and it worked perfectly with video and sound, no problem. Then one morning, I turned on the laptop, and the TV showed the extended desktop as usual, but there was no sound!
Many internet searches on this topic later and I have ensured that the audio was set to the AMD High Definition Audio Device as Default, I have tried the most up to date AMD graphics and audio drivers from both the AMD and Lenovo sites (Catalyst versions 12.8), and rolled back to older video and audio graphics as I read some people saying the latest drivers were the problem (Catalyst 12.6 - should I go back further??). I even tried a BIOS update and a chipset utility download from Lenovo. Nothing has brought back the sound.
I don't know if it's a related problem, but I also cannot, despite all this, find the SM Bus Controller driver either, despite a chipset install. Argh.
My laptop identifies the PC as a Generic PnP Monitor in Device Manager, and an AMD High Definition Audio Device if I look at the volume controls. The TV recognises the connection as HDMI and as soon as I plug in the HDMI cable my desktop appears on the TV, and the volume icon switches from speakers to the AMD HDMI output.
The only difference all my installing etc. seems to have made is that even if I tell my lapt... Read more

So I bought this laptop a few months ago.
For the past few weeks the Laptop stopped playing sound.
I watched a stream in Chrome.

So actually I should be able to see the sound playing in the mixer.
But I wasn't able to play any sound or get any deflection in the mixer.

Then I installed Speccy and as this administration window popped up a sound was played and it worked.

I have no idea why the sound stopped working and why it started again.
Is someone able to help me?

I am using Windows 8.1

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D - no sound, random

The main thing is that you have sound again. It is not easy to say what was wrong there.
Have you installed some updates or anything else that can be responsible for this sound issue?

I've had my pc for years and never had this problem until recently.
Most of the time the sound doesn't work but sometimes when I restart it (and occasionally when I warm it up from stand-by) the sound will return.

When it's working it lasts as long as the PC is on but it the PC will itself down due to overheating sometimes and, even if it didn't, I don't like to leave it on all the time.

When the sound is not working I cannot play videos except for windows media.
Any youtube or similar site's videos will only play for about two seconds and then pause, without any sound at all.
Same thing for my iTunes.

When the sound is working I can play iTunes all night but when it's not the songs don't even play. The cursor just stays at 0:00.

Is there anything I can do?

Answer:Sometimes sound doesn't work on Satellite A65

At first the fact is that this notebook is pretty old. I believe about 4 years. Am I right about that? There can be lot of dust inside and because of that you have this ?overheating sometimes? issue. Maybe is time to clean the notebook up.

If is also possible that through those overheating issues is something defective now. It can be that some contacts (sound related) are not good anymore and the contact is there sporadically. To be honest for me it sounds like hardware related issue. i really do not believe you can do much alone. Maybe try to make clean OS installation and see what will happen. If the problem persists either you must search for some external solution or take it to the authorized service provider.

i currently own a Toshiba Satellite L755-1ED and sound is not working as it should for some weeks ago. When i try to play an audio file or a video, offline or online, sound works well for the first minutes and then suddenly disappears. I use Windows 7, and when that happens, sound is still being recognized for the system as you can see it in the volume control, but any sound comes from the speakers. However:
- If i pause the video and replay it in like 30 seconds, sound usually comes back. Also if i go to Sound Settings in +Hardware and Sound+ in the +Panel Control+, and then try to check if it works, it usually does after the first or the second attempt.
- If i use a headset sound always works perfectly.

I've already installed the last updates of my sound card and i don't know where the problem might be. Some help would be welcomed.
Thanks a lot and sorry for my English (it's not my native language).

> If i use a headset sound always works perfectly.
That?s very interesting. Speakers port has small switch inside that helps notebook to ?recognize? that headphones are connected and when you connect headphones internal speakers will be disabled and sound comes through speakers only.

On some machines it is possible to switch between internal and external speakers manually

When you open control panel is there ?Realter HD audio manager? available or maybe ?Smart audio??

I have installed WXP on my Satellite L300-19f after changing SATA to compatibility I have installed WXP and installed all drivers and everything is fine, but the sound device doesn't work. I have downloaded the driver from the download & support centre but it can't detect it.

BTW: it was working before on Vista.
What should I do?
And thanks

Answer:Satellite L300-19F and WXP - sound device doesn't work

I presume you have installed Realtek sound driver.
Is it right?

Before you would install the sound driver you should update the Windows XP to the latest state!!! The SP2 should be included and all the further MS patches and fixes.

After the Wins XO has been updated you could follow with the Realtek sound driver installation.

Now, you should remove the sound card from the device manager and the High definition Audio Controller from the device manager -> system devices.
Then update the OS, reboot several times and install the Realtek sound driver again.

PS: search here in the forum for MS KB835221& KB888111. These are MS patches which are very important for Realtek sound driver

For the speakers are no drivers available. I think you mean the sound drivers for the sound card ;)

I think you don?t can here a sound because it?s a common issue on XP. That means you have to install to audio patches from Microsoft or the SP3 first and then the audio driver.
So please install SP3 and then the newest sound driver from the Toshiba page: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Good luck!

My sound drivers do not work properly on Windows XP SP3. I have five speakers in my Satellite X200-252 notebook but only two are detected by the OS. When running on Windows VIsta there are no problems.

Hello VeraLenovoThanks for using the Lenovo forums.Have a look on the following knowledge base, as per the post:

"This Bios version 1.10 (6GET19WW) package is only for non-HDMI Platform on Lenovo N500 or Lenovo G530 (Type: 4446). If other G530 system (Type: 4151) flash this bios package by accident, it will cause "No HDMI Function" side-effect. But, you can flash back to previous Bios version by downloading the according Bios packages from Lenovo website.
Customers who have systems with HDMI should use BIOS 1.09 (6GET19WW)"

Hi Toshiba team,

Recently bought a new notebook.
However the microphone or sound driver (connexant pebble high definition ) doesn't work properly when using skype. Also read about this matter in various forums such as the skype forum.
People encountered similar problems such as:

We can usually talk for a bit longer than 20 seconds, however the call will drop at a random time between 1 and 15 minutes. The strange part is that sometimes the quality of the call is good, but more than often my friend can only hear *half of what I am saying* while I usually do not have a problem hearing what has been said. The video will work so my friend can see me talking but can simply not really hear what I am saying.
Before the drop the call will usually freeze for a couple of seconds and then skype sometimes crashes. We have tried talking together without the video, however the problem remains.

I also found a suggestion by the toshiba service, just to simply increase the volume under control panel etc, but it doesn't work either..

Can you please help me on this one?
Cannot use skype at all as it just to annoying for everyone I talk to.. Quality is just to poor!!

Many many thanks

I?m Skype user too and to be honest? everything is working properly!
I can use my internal webcam as well!
But I?m using the Win XP with Skype?

I assume you are using Win 7 and Skype?

To be honest, I doubt it?s Toshiba notebook issue?
If it would be a notebook (sound driver) issue then you would notice the same problems recording and creating audio files... but I doubt this will happen...

Therefore it must be an software issue? possibly an combination of Skype, Win 7 and Conexant driver?
Who knows?

But as I said above? my Skype is running fine with Win XP!

First of all have i no idea where to post this.
Beside that i'm clueless about you support page. (which lets you choose laptop/build/etc etc)
So here i'm...

I got a Toshiba - Satellite L750D/L755D

It came whit windows 7, but after a lot of trouble and since i hate windows 7 more then any other OS.
I bought windows 8, which is now upgraded to 8.1 by the latest update as you might know.
since the beginning even whit windows 7 did the inbuilt speakers not work as they should do.
And whit that i mean, at the beginning they did work... BUT for 5 to 10 sec and then it just stopt.

But the strange part of it is if i connect a sound box the sound works perfect, and doesn't stop either.
I'm not an expert on this. but since i grew up whit it i know a bit about it.

I think that it is something whit the drivers which are corrupt or not working well together.
Now did i search the whole web around to try to find a fix but ended up whit no progress at all.
Maybe you think different but i think this website is the worst of them all. lol sorry gotta be true.

It ask me which kind of satellite i have which i know but which is not in the list, nowhere!
So trying to find the right driver which is probably need is kinda impossible.
Beside this does mine disc reader not work either.

No matter what or which disk i put in, after-all he will say there is no disc or the disc is empty.
And no that is not the matter because if i put in another laptop/pc it works fine.

Answer:Satellite L750D/L755D - inbuilt sound and DVD reader doesn't work.

I guess there i no answer to this.
and i guess i just won't be able to use the inbuilt sound ever again.

Seeing so many people whit similar to almost the same problems.

Though happening only on the Toshiba models.
guess just some kind of cheap inbuilt sound-box.
as i said before i'm really disappointed about this.
but lessons have been learned.

The next time i buy a laptop for more then 2000~3000 euro at-least takes me longer to pay it off. But at-least i got something i can use for longer then 1 year and about the poor support i mean it and i have no reason to lie about it.

I have just bought a Satellite P200-1B6 laptop and spent the day installing the updates recommended by the TEMPO program. One of these was a Sound Driver update from RealTek but on running this it fails about 80% of the way through with an error: 'Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !!'.

Now the Toshiba HD DVD player fails to start with an error 'Unable to output the video to an external device.

Please switch your display device by pressing the Fn + F5 keys after ending the application'. I've tried this but it seems to have no effect.

I'm now regretting starting to update the installed drivers. Should I try to rebuild the machine using the recovery discs or is there another solution that someone has found? Or have others found the upgrade works?

Any advice welcome

Answer:Satellite P200-1B6: Sound Driver update fails and HD-DVD Player doesn't work

When I have started to use PCs one friend of mine told me something: do not touch well running system. I know that you, as many other people out there, want to have updated stuff but as you can see it can go in the wrong direction.

This TEMPO software is nice thing but if everything runs well leave it as it is. What you can try is to use ?system restore? tool and roll back OS to earlier time and hope everything will be OK again.

Please post the result.

We are really sorry to hear about the same, you may try the following to find out the cause
Generally there are only two main causes

 HDMI  cable
Graphics  drivers

In the Display control panel, does it show the TV model?Try Windows key + P?
Also have you verified the cable with some other unit . in many cases it is the cable which is faulty
.   Many have had the same problem with all kinds of different laptop, some can be fixed by updating the Intel graphic drivers try the  Intel® Driver Update Utility to see if there is an update

Hi, Most probably this problem has been already discussed here, but I didn't find any topics on this. I have Y550 Ideapad with GT 240M Nvidia graphics card which gives the best video performance I have seen so far on laptops. I was quite happy with it until I decided to link my laptop to TV through HDMI cable. It was fine first 1 hour of the video I watched, but after sleepmode I started having problems with signal. For some reasons the screen on my Philips TV started blinking, trying to recover the signal coming from laptop, sound went off and at the end - blue screen on TV saying "no input signal" or "unsupported video format". I re-started computer and reconnected HDMI cable back to TV, but problem still exists. I thought the problem is with HDMI cable, so I changed it but result is the same. When I went to Internet I was surprised with number of  posts & forums with regards to the same problem. It seems Nvidia cards doesn't work properly with Philips LCDs and neither Philips nor Nvidia is trying to resolve this. It means millions of people having Nvidia cards cannot watch movies on their Philips tvs. I also noted that problem occurs on some other brands like Sharp, Thomson.. etc. People say if they disable nvidia drivers TV works fine, so it is definitely graphics card problem. All forums I read ended on 2009 so I believe there is a fix finally made by Nvidia to make their card compatible with Philips screens. But I cannot find it. Does Lenovo have... Read more

I have a Gigabyte GA-Z170 Gaming 7 Motherboard and i had my Monitor plugged in its HDMI port. It worked perfectly and suddenly after a restart it stopped working.
Note: I was updating HDMI firmware via Gigabyte's Mega Chips when my PC shut down. I believe it has something to do with this.

Hi there.
I have no other ideas on this issue so im asking for your help.
I recently tried connecting my laptop to a tv to create a xternal display to share movies, tv, pictures with my family and recently moved away from VGA.  So I decided to use my HDMI cable that I usually use for my XBOX 360. Using my HDMI for my
xbox to tv works perfectly, but when I connect it to my laptop, it isn't displayed in the other displays option in Screen Resolution/Other display etc.  It workes sometimes and sometimes it does not.  I went to a radical step of connecting my xbox
to tv and immediately connecting the xbox end back to the pc and it surprisinly worked.  But now I cant get a signal out of it since.  It randomly connects and sometimes it wont work at all.

HDMI requires both a video driver and an audio driver as Windows 7 does not have that built in.  Ensure your video drivers and your audio drivers are up to date.

I've got a gateway DX4680 desktop, and a dell s2409w monitor.

What went wrong –
hdmi connection between computer and monitor stopped working about 35 days after getting the computer.
Had no problems with the hdmi connection between computer and monitor prior to that.
Worked completely fine.
What I’ve tried to fix it:
Replaced the hdmi cable – didn’t work
Got some adapters to test out the hdmi ports on both the computer and the monitor – ran from the hdmi port on the computer with a hdmi-to-dvi adapter into the dvi port on the monitor – that worked.
Used another computer that has a dvi output and with a dvi-to-hdmi adapter into the hdmi port on the monitor, that worked.
So it seems that the hdmi port works on the computer, and the hdmi port also works on the monitor, just can’t get it to work hdmi to hdmi again (it worked fine for about a month, so something has changed, apparently).
Also tried setting the computer to an earlier restore point (date prior to the problem starting) – didn’t work.  The problem started after a window's critical update, as best I can tell.  Thought if the update caused
the issue, then going back to an earlier restore point would resolve it, which it didn't
Also ran windows updates and installed all ... Read more

I tested it with different cords and displays, updated my drivers, and even did a software reset and it still didn't work. For a 2k laptop that's supposed to be durable, this is unacceptable. I also baby my laptop so it couldn't have been damaged from my use. If I were to choose I want lenovo to send me a new X1, one that's fully functional. Would this be possible or am I just looking at an onsite fix?

Dear All, I just received and opened the IdeaCentre K450 today (Also to clarify, because I bought it in the UK, it is a UK version of K450). Have things sorted mostly, but only got one problem, which is the HDMI port. On the back of K450, there's a HDMI port. I assume that is the port from Mother board, not the discrete GTX 650 Graphic Card. I tried to connect it to my monitor's DVI port via a HDMI to DVI cable. The monitor sortof recieved signals from the PC within 1-2 seconds (but no display on screen at all. Reason I am saying the monitor kindof received signals is because the LED of the screen flashed from Yellow to Green, which indicates that it actually got some input). But then nothing happened. The DVI ports coming from the Graphic Card worked fine, though, but they are not the HDMI port. What I have done after that:1. Updated the NVIDIA drivier (Gefore GTX 650)2. Downloaded the Intel VGA Driver from Lenovo Support and tried to update the on-board video driver, but it failed and the system complianed this driver is not for the hardware. Though I update the NVIDA driver, it didn't solve the problem. Not quite sure what to do next. My guess is: The integrated video component on the mother board might not work properly? Because I noticed that the HDMI port as well as the VGA port didn't work at all, so I assumed that mother board driver doesn't work properly. But unfortunately the drived I downloaded from Levono didn't work on my P... Read more

hi tidus_chan,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I believe that the computer is working as designed
There are two places where Display may come from,
    A. Built in Graphics
    B. Expansion Cards

The original settings is that a computer will have no (B. Expansion Cards), (Only the A. Built in Graphics)
Once an Expansion card is Attatched, The Built in Graphics will be disabled automatically.
This explains why all ports on your A. Built in Graphics are not working.
The A. Built in Graphics and the B. Expansion Cards will not stay active together.

Hello. I have a problem. A problem I did not have up until a month ago or so. I have a TV screen plugged in as a monitor. However, after some time, about a month ago, microphone stopped working.

At first I've thought microphone went just bust (it's a cheap $5 one and I had it for over 3 years), so I've plugged it in into friend's laptop to check it. Nope, worked there. Keep in mind that at this point I've used my TV as computer screen for over 3 months with no issues whatsoever all the time plugged via HDMI with audio working fine, it will be important soon why.

Next thing was to update sound drivers to newest Realtek ones. Nope, didn't help. So I went googling. Somewhere I've read that HDMI output may conflict with microphone. But it worked good up to this point. Weird. I've decided it's worth to try and disable HDMI out anyway just to see.

Lo and behold, microphone works after disabling HDMI audio. But wait a minute, it worked before without disabling HDMI audio, so what the hell?

Anyone knows any real fix for that issue? You know, any that doesn't involve disabling HDMI audio each time I want to record something? Like it was the case before this started to happen? And without buying any extra hardware, please.

I work on my Laptop with 2 external monitors. One is connected via VGA and the other via HDMI. That all worked fine until yesterday where my HDMI monitor couldn't be found.

Things i already tested:
I tested the moitor by connecting it with another computer and it worked (with HDMI), so the monitor can't be the issue.
I also tried an other HDMI cable...didn't work ether.
BIOS is updated to the latest version
graphics driver from NVIDIA graphics card and from the standard intel graphics card are updated to the latest version.

Also a strange thing: when im in the BIOS menu while having VGA plugged in the screen keeps turning black for 1-2 secounds and then turning on again

Would be great to get some tips on what i can do :)

Answer:Qosmio X70-A-11Q - HDMI Monitor doesn't work

Are you able to use the HDMI out port without connecting another additional monitor to the VGA port? Please check this because from my experience it should be possible to use either the VGA or HDMI port.

However, I think the problem might be related to one of the graphic card driver.
Why? Because I think that one video out port would be controlled by one graphic chip.
In case you are using two monitors at the same time (VGA and HDMI) one video graphic card (nVidia or Intel) would control VGA port and the other HDMI port.

I think you should reinstall the Intel display driver.
First of all you should uninstall the installed Intel display driver from the system (do that in device manager). Then you should reboot the notebook. On the Toshiba EU driver page you would find the latest Intel driver v10.18.10.3308
This driver is released for Win 8.1 as well as Win 8 and Win 7

Would recommend you to install this version to fix the HDMI problem

I have had my X1 yoga for just over a month now and I didn't test the hdmi port until now. To my dismay it doesn't work. It doesn't recognise displays and I have tried different cords and different displays so its not an external problem. I have also updated my drivers and even did a system restore and the hdmi port still won't output. It's most likely broken. What's my best course of action? Could I get a new X1 as the one I received is clearly defective and it's only been a month of usage. Who's to say more things won't break in the next few years?

I'm trying to setup my PC to output over the HDMI Out port to my TV. The video is sent fine, but no audio at all. I've checked it is not the TV, as other sources all output audio fine over HDMI (even my old Dell laptop).

Hi, everybody. I've bought Acer E5-575G-527J in December. It is Acer refurbished notebook from Amazon. And it still looks like new one. I was in Windows Insider program from January until the release of Creators Update. Now I'm at stable version. At the end of February, I understood that HDMI port doesn't work. I'm pretty sure that this is program issue. It just stopped working suddenly. When I plug in HDMI port my TV indicates that there is some connection on HDMI port(in the menu of the TV). I've tried with another TV and HDMI cable but the screen was always black. Built in screen keeps working. I am not able to project it to any other screen. I've performed clean Creators Update installation. I've tried to install Intel's last graphic drivers (Acer portal's display drivers are old, but HDMI port also doesn't work with them) manually by deleting Microsofts drivers from device manager. Nothing works.Does anybody have such a problem?

Answer:E5-575G-527J hdmi port doesn't work

I never used the hdmi port on mine yet but have had issues on my desktop detecting correctly. There are two issues your fighting that I can think of, internal intel CPU graphics vs the nvidia discrete graphics and default monitor output. On the desktop I could and did just disable the on chip graphics forcing all video thru the nvidia card. As for default display I had to power up pc after display was on looking for input but fast enough so as to not have display time out. Once detected display never turned off, just goes into sleep mode and wakes when pc turned on. In your case I don't think we can turn off graphics but we can trick source output. Try this? Laptop ready to power up, monitor plugged in. There's a strong magnet in laptop panel lid near web cam that triggers a switch near touchpad to let system know lid closed. A paper clip will show location. On spot near touchpad place a small magnet to trick system into thinking its closed so when you power up default video out routes to hdmi port. I know sounds silly but easy test to try. I thought of just tap power and close but pretty sure the bootup  will detect was open when you pressed power up and turn off display before windows loads. I know thinking driver or faulty port and I am crazy but the bios on these laptops are so locked down many of the features are not selectable but hidden / present none the less and creative work arounds sometimes solve issues.

Hi there,

When I try to connect my Satellite L750 laptop to the TV (a Conia Plasma) via a HDMI cord, the laptop screen goes black and becomes unresponsive while the TV registers the laptop for a second but then says no signal. Even when I take the HDMI plug out of the computer, the screen will still stay black and I end up having to reboot.

I've tried all HDMI ports on the TV and different HDMI cords with no change.
Other laptops will play on the TV no problem and my laptop will also work with other TV's as well, so I'm completely at a loss as to why the two wont work together!

Also (not sure if relevant or not) but when I press FN+F5 to show output options, the only option available is output to LCD. Does this mean the laptop will only link with LCD TVs?

Is there any way to change/upgrade this?

Any advice from someone who's had a similar problem or help from someone who knows how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks :)

Answer:Satellite L750 doesn't connect to TV via HDMI and shuts down

You can use the HDMI out port in connection with all TVs and external monitor which would support the HDMI IN port.
The HDMI interface isn?t limited to a certain TV.

The FN + F5 key combination switches between the internal and external monitor/display (if connected).

In your case there is an open question regarding the preinstalled system.
Do you use the OS preinstalled by Toshiba or did you change it in the past?

If you changed the system, the issue might be related to the preinstalled graphic card driver.

However, my recommendation is simply:
First of all I recommend you to reinstall the graphic card driver.
Firstly un-install the installed driver (do that in device manger). Then download the compatible driver from Toshiba EU driver page and perform the installation.

Now shut off the notebook. Power up the unit and press F2. Now you should access the BIOS.
Within the BIOS press F9 to load default settings. After that press F10 to save the changes and to exit the BIOS.
Now connect the notebook to TV using HDMI cable.
Power up the TV and then notebook.
After short time use the function keys FN + F5 to switch to external video output.

Good luck!

Hello All,

Well this is starting to drive me to distraction and Im hoping theres someone who can put me out my missery lol.

I have been trying to hook my laptop (toshiba satellite pro p300) up to my LCD TV via the same HDMI cable I use for my PS3 but the connector just wont fit. I keep finding all these posts in various forums saying how they cant get sound out the HDMI connection...that would be great, as at least that means they have them connected.

Are there different connections for HDMI? The one I have is diagonal connector but the port on the laptop is more square, and just doesnt fit. So if there isnt a connector, does that mean I have a funky port, on the laptop.

There is also the matter of connection my laptop to my amp that controls the surround sound system. What connection is best to use, as there is no real audio out connections?

Answer:Satellite Pro P300 - HDMI output port doesn't fit

Can you please tell us what Satellite Pro P300 you have exactly? I mean the exact model number.
Maybe you can also post a picture of the HDMI port. Normally there are no different HDMI ports, all have the same physical dimension.
I?m not PS3 owner but maybe it has a special connector. Have you tried another cable?

Regarding the audio connection I use the normal line out port for my external speakers. Did you test this?

I built a barebone kit and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, I installed all the drivers correctly but for some reason Windows keeps detecting the front audio jack as if someone is repeatedly pushing in and out headphones(no pun intended). Audio doesn't work at all through front and back audio jacks, only HDMI. I only get static from the audio jacks.

Answer:HDMI Sound Works but Audio Jack Doesn't

Possibly defective front panel headphone/mic connector/cable or problem with case front panel. Most cases have both an HD audio and an AC97 connector for the front panel, that plugs into the motherboard. Normally, the HD Audio should be used. If you are using the HD Audio connection, try the AC97. If you are using the AC97, use the HD Audio instead.

If neither of the connectors change anything, and the audio works OK with the rear connections (with no front panel connection to the motherboard), the problem would appear to be in the case front panel assembly.

Hi guys, just found out this place, seems to be a good forum so I try it here.

Last night I got hold of a 27" BenQ GL2750HM, so far so good.
I have my main display from the DVI port to HDMI port on the screen and my secondary screen is my 60" TV which is connected through HDMI port on the graphic card into the HDMI port in my reciever.

The main scheme for my setup is like:

- Radeon 7970 DVI > HDMI Main monitor (BenQ GL2750)
- Radeon 7970 HDMI > HDMI Reciever (ONKYO TX-NR609)
- ONKYO TX-NR609 > 60" TV

So to the problem now.
When the HDMI cable is connected to the graphic card, I need to have my TV ON in order for my main monitor, the BenQ, to work and if I turn off the TV the BenQ is getting black, like a standby mode, however, there is "no signal" to the monitor.
This was never a problem with my other screen, I could have the HDMI cable connected to the graphic card, the TV off and the reciever OFF without the main monitor went black.

I hope I expressed myself good enough for you too understand, if not, please reply

Thanks in advance.

Seems a common problem that HDMI doesn't work. How hard can it be?

Machine: R50-B, Windows 10 (upgraded from 8.1), 64-bit.

HDMI no go: when I plug in an HDMI cable (live) the system detects it, shows it has two displays, but nothinb on the second display. Yes, I have tried Windows-P to choose the displays and worked with the dual-monitor settings.

There is no HDMI Manager driver installed. The support site has no Windows 10 drivers, and the 8.1 driver 'HDMI Manager' installer does nothing - it runs but nothing gets installed.

Any suggestions?

I have a C70D-A-107 and want to speed up this notebook. Already placed 4gb extra memory so the notebook has now 8gb internal. I doubt whether it is usefull to put in 2x8gb. I think the processor is just to slow. It has a AMD E1-2100 inside. Is it possible to put in another (faster) processor?

Answer:Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

The Satellite C70D-A-107 was equipped with an AMD Essentials E1-2100 Accelerated CPU (1,00 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache)
It’s not the fastest CPU therefore the notebook performance isn’t the best…

But CPU upgrade isn’t officially supported by notebook manufacturer... therefore I don’t think that you will be able to upgrade the CPU…

I read about successful Intel CPU upgrades but did not meet anyone who was able to perform an upgrade with an AMD CPU

The Satellite C70D-A-11K was equipped with the 17.3" LED color LCD panel with the supporting max resolution of 1600 x 900 px
You should be able to order such display panel from local Toshiba authorized service provider or you could check some 3rd part online dealers who provide compatible notebook parts…

As I mention above: you should look for the 17.3" panels.

I want to upgrade RAM with additional 4 GB but at the bottom of the notebook there is no RAM cover so I don't have access to the RAM slots.
I don't want to cancel valid warranty so I don't want to open it alone.
What should I do ???

i see that the site don't provide all download drivers. In the device management I have still 2 drivers missing
pci encryptions/decryption controller and unknown device.

Can someone help me out with it?

Answer:Need some drivers for my Satellite C70D-B-10U

According notebook specification your machine was delivered with preinstalled Win8.1 64BIT ML.
Original preinstalled version is perfectly configured with all necessary drivers.

The question is: what are you doing with your machine?
Do you try to use some older Windows version?

My wive purchase this computer coupple of months ago. It was from the beginning ferry slow on windows 8
The wurst laptop we ever had. We feel robbed of our money.

2 months ago we started with Ubuntu. It Still slow. IS there anybody with the same problems?

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

Hi Marco

I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm what you wrote but fact is that almost all new notebooks are pretty slow at the beginning. Many applications are set to start with Windows and this, of course, slows down boot time.
Windows updates are also set to automatic so in the background the machine will download and install many updates so this will slow down your machine rapidly.

In my opinion you should install original OS that you got with this machine and optimize it a bit.
Remove all useless stuff, change start-up option and disable automatic Windows updates.
In the past I have noticed that original preinstalled antivirus is also responsible for notebook?s performance so I don't use original preinstalled application but my own version of Avir Antivir and it runs perfectly.

Check all these options and I hope your machine will run much better than before.

Good evening,

I'm sorry to disturb,
but I find myself in a situation to which I find no solution,
that's why I come here asking for some help.

A friend has just purchased the following laptop:
- Satellite C70D-B-307

but the worry is that apparently it is impossible to have access to the HDD recovery to execute the factory restoration.
I try all possible solutions that I find on the web and none of it works.

what to do ?

does Toshiba sell the recovery DVDs that will restore the computer to its factory state?

Thank you very much .

Just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as far as I know until know), except boot from DVD. I disabled in the bios the Secure Boot and changed the boot order to DVD first, then USB and then HDD. The DVD drive starts, but then it skips to the HDD and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so that is not the problem.
I would like to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Anyone solved this problem already?

Answer:Satellite C70D - How to boot from DVD

Update: changing from UEFI to CMS in the BIOS Advanced tab makes it possible to boot from DVD, but Windows won't boot anymore.... Is there any possibility to boot from DVDE and still be able to start Windows as well?

So title says it all. Before it was working fine with Windows 8.1. Audio and Video output is good but after updating Windows 10, it just stopped working. I've checked in windows update and it says my computer is up to date. Am I missing something or does anyone experience the same issue?

Answer:Computer freezes when lid is closed, USB ports don't work, sound doesn't work

I want you to run TDSSKiller so refer to the below for how to do so.

TDSSkiller - How to run

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
Done! Press ENTER to exit...

Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
Found non-standard or infected MBR.
Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:

Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.

Hey there,

I've a big prob. For about 5 days my HDMI connector won't work anymore.

If I connect my Satellite L650 through HDMI to a TV, the laptop detects the TV and identifies it as Phillips, what is absolutely correct, but I don't get a screen on the TV. I tried several cables and several TV's, tried to activate HDMI through pushing "FN" + "F5", changed resolution, nothing helped.

When I connect the HDMI cable to my laptop, I can hear that sound when a new device is connected. By pushing fn + f5 i can choice between vga and hdmi connector. My operating system is Win7 64.

Can anybody help? Thanks.

Answer:Satellite L650 - HDMI to TV won't work

Hi buddy,

Here is a similar thread about HDMI issue:

You can also check the forum for similar threads, you will find enough and it?s the same on every notebook so use the forum search.

If you have more questions you can post again :)

Hi all,

My grandmother recently bought this Toshiba, mostly i recommend people a Toshiba but this is going to far.

I wasn't aware that she bought a laptop untill she called me and said she needs help because she never worked with such a slow computer as this Toshiba.

So my question is

How much logic does Toshiba has? I mean putting 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM ( ok nice for a casual laptop ) doesn't quite fit with a >>1GHz<< processor. for the rest the specs aren't terrible.

Can somebody explain me why this laptop has a 1GHz processor with 6GB of RAM. this doensn't makes sence at all

I've a angry grandmother xD with a crappy laptop so I builded quick a pc for her where so does her work on for now

Answer:Can I replace the HDD in my Satellite C70D-B -00P model with an SSD?

Generally speaking yes, you can do this but problem is that your notebook model doesn't have HDD cover at the bottom side.
To have full access to the HDD the bottom cover must be removed completely but it should be done by authorized service only.

Of course you can try to do it alone but I?m afraid you may lose the warranty.
If possible contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask for help.

After a regular shutdown I cannot boot the system anymore.
System starts but does not boot.

Referring to the manual (section 6, solutions of problems) I tried to hit [F12] after power on but nothing happened.
Same when hitting [F2].

My impression is that something failed on hard disk drive.

P.S. system has Win10 installed.

Hi There,

I have had a Satellite C70D for about 18 months now, but have not used it in the past year as I have been disputing with customer services about the windows licence for the machine as I lost it when I formatted the original hard drive before installing an SSD and they wouldnt send me a copy of it. I have now bitten the bullet and bought a windows 10 licence again. However since building the machine a few days ago, I have been having a couple of issues and as it is now out of warranty, I cannot contact customer support (Who I found unhelpful even when it was in warranty!)

The first issue is when I boot up the machine, occasionally the keyboard will not work, I cannot type the BitLocker pin and I have to remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this then fixes the issue for a few reboots before it goes again.

The second is that occasionally it will boot up with a red x next to the WiFi symbol, but it detects the WiFi card, usually a reboot fixes this but not always. I have reseated the card and still no avail.

Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing this? The BIOS is up-to-date as are all of the drivers.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi All,

I have an Satellite C70D-A-11D ... when I use once the FN Key to do a Print Screen or use the Screen-Zoom on the Space Key...

I am not able to use the Keynumbers 1 to 4 neither the space Key to enter a space between two always change between the bigger screen solution or the normal solution...

I only can change the FN Key again after change the settings in Display settings and after a reboot...
So I cant use FN without a reset with the F1 to F12 Key use and a reboot...

Normaly the FN Key works only if it is pressed...if not the normal Function of the Keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?

What to do?

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D Function Key deactivate after use

First of all you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)

This function can be changed in BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration

Check this option.

I have a Satellite C70D-A-114...

i hardly used it because it was slow

so i wanted to sell it

first i wanted to set it back to factory settings

doing that, in that process i seem to have deleted all files

so now i get message no bootable disc etc.

Tried everything, there is simply no recovery file

So where can i find such a file for free? It's just not normal that it is not on the site.

Answer:Need recovery files for my Satellite C70D-A-114

All you can find for free are all drivers, tools and utilities. Original recovery image (software package) is not for free and if you need it you must order recovery disc directly by Toshiba.

You can order it on

By the way: in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can create recovery installation disc. I’m wondering you didn’t make it in the past.

I picked up a brand new c70d-b-10u today from a well known retailer.
I turned it on, set the language, gave a computer name, hooked up to a wi fi and then it asked for Other User Password!

I never entered a password to start with so why is it asking for one?

I cannot get to the shop again until next week and urgently need to get up and running.

Any ideas greatly received.

Answer:Brand new Satellite C70D-B-10U wants a password?

Try to recover the notebook once again using the HDD recovery option.

The recovery procedure would reset the notebook back to factory settings… usually after that no passwords should be set…

My girlfriend bought me a new Toshiba laptop C70D-B-10U (my second Toshiba), it is a good laptop apart from the speakers they are terrible. I didn't want my first post to be a complaint but, Toshiba cut corners when it put the speakers in this series of laptops.

Or have I not set them right has anyone else had this problem, any ideas or solutions thank you.

Answer:Bad Speakers on Satellite C70D-B-10UM

I think your notebook has only small stereo speakers and the sound is not the best. I have Satellite S50-B with Harman/kardon speakers and sound is really good.

You can try to change sound options but if you want to have better sound I’m afraid you need external speakers, Maybe BT speakers.

I have 2 issues with my new Satellite C70D-B-32U.
When I put it in sleep mode, it does. But after about 5 minutes, it goes automatically to hibernate. This I don't want. And I don't want to disable hibernate, because I do use it when the laptop is not in use for longer periods. The power settings in control panel do not reflect this behaviour. In the settings, I specified that the laptop should never go to hibernate. Hybrid state is disabled.

And secondly, more importantly. Whenever it goes to hibernate, I can only wake it up with the power button. Not with the (internal) keyboard, not with the usb mouse. I would like an option to wake it from hibernate by pressing any key on the keyboard. In bios power on keyboard is set to on. Is there anything else I can change to have this available?
Actually if issue 1 is solved and the laptop stays in sleep mode, this issue is also solved since from sleep I can wake on a mouseclick which is also fine.

The OS is windows 8.1

I get a great picture but no sound when G30-153 HDMI cable is connected to LCD TV.
Sound comes only from G30.

Answer:Sound does not work over HDMI on Qosmio G30-153

I have investigated a little bit on the Toshiba US site and I think I have found a solution.
The Toshiba US website provides some useful technical support documents.

Check this one:
Unable to hear audio over an HDMI connection on a Qosmio G30

It seems it?s an only a setting issue in the SigmaTel Audio Control Panel.
So follow the guide lines in the document and please report your experiences.

Good luck

So ya title saays it.
but there is on thing tht i want to add is tht i hav tried going into playback devices but for some reason it says nothing bout the hdmi. It just says "speakers" and "realtek digital output".

Answer:Can't get sound to work through hdmi output through my tv!

I do this with my TV too

The first place I would look is to make sure that Windows detected the HDMI display properly.

Look in Device manager with the TV connected and turned on.
Click the Windows Orb (used to be the START button in XP)
Device Manager
and you should see a link to click for it.

In the Device Manager window see if there is anything under
Other Devices
or if any items have a question mark or exclamation mark on them.

If you see anything like that let us know what it is and someone can tell you what to do next.(it depends on what exactly you see)

Also what kind of video card are you plugging the HDMI into? I use an ATI card.

I have been using my L750 for about 3 weeks now and suddenly the function keys (using the FN + F keys) have ceased to work.

Also, the shutdown, when I go into Start, then press shutdown, my laptop used to actually shut down.

Now all I can do is click either the sleep or hibernate on the arrow pull-out menu on the shutdown button.
Can anyone help me with this.

They have all been working fine up to now.

Answer:Satellite L750 Fn buttons do not work & shut down doesn't work either

> I have been using my L750 for about 3 weeks now and suddenly the function keys (using the FN + F keys) have ceased to work.

Go to All Programs -> Flash Cards Utility and restart the Flash Cards.

The point is that this Utility controls the FN buttons and this should be the first step in order to get the button working again.

If this does not help, reinstall the VAP (value added package)

Regarding the power off issue:
Click right on the Start button -> Properties
Now choose Start Menu tab
Here in the point power button action choose Shut down

Hi all,

I am getting video but no audio when I connect my laptop to my Toshiba HDTV.
I have looked at the settings but they seem to be ok.

Any help would be great.

Answer:Satellite P300: no sound through HDMI on HD TV

You should follow these steps if you connect a HDTV to the notebook:

1. Attach a Television to the notebook via HDMI while both units are in a *"powered off"* state.
2. Power on the Television first and then the notebook.
3. Notebook should automatically detect HDMI connection and video output can be seen via HDMI to Television.
4. Launch Sound (Start (Windows logo) -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound)
5. In the Playback tab select "Digital Output Device (S/PDIF)" and click on "Set Default"
6. Click "Apply" and "OK" to close Sound
7. Sounds played on the noteboo should now also be heard on the TV (Fn+ESC keys or the volume dial can be used to mute the computer audio)

_Please Note:_
1. Setting Digital Output Device (S/PDIF) as a default through Volume Mixer does not enable digital output audio via HDMI.
2. HD DVD-Video can only be displayed on the computer's LCD display panel or on a Television connected to the HDMI out port. HD DVD-Video cannot be displayed on Televisions connected to the S-Video out port or external display connected to the RGB connector.

Hopefully this helps
