Preferred Solution: Satellite C655 - how to fix the hard drive input plug?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite C655 - how to fix the hard drive input plug?

> I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite C655 could I fix the hard drive input plug because somebody snapped it off and also the start button was removed off the board.

Do you mean the SATA connector on the motherboard? Is it broken?
Well, I don?t think its easy to fix. If something is broken on the motherboard, then mostly you will need an new motherboard or you would ask an specialist (electronics technician) for help.

> Also have a Toshiba U300 which is flicking screen then turns blue and switches off and on by itself.
Try to clean the cooling ventilators using compressed air spray. Mostly the notebook switches OFF automatically due to higher temperature? and cleaning cooling fans can help to get better cooling performance.

I am using a Toshiba Satellite P200 with Vista Home Premium. Can I utilise the Line input jack to transfer music from a tape deck to the Hard Drive in some way or does this just let me access the speakers? I have a number of old and valued cassette tape recordings and no way of taking proper advantage of them.

Answer:Using Line input to copy music to the hard drive on a Satellite P200

Hi! You can use any recording program - also choose file format you need. Maybe you can even use 'Recording' program from 'Programs-Standard' (I've been using some other). I've been recording from my mini hi-fi: playing tape and from tuner, too. It's easy.

Hi
I have never had a laptop before. Also new to windows 7. Trying to find the simplest way to burn a DVD from another DVD on this new laptop. I know I have to put the info from the DVD on to the laptop. And then burn it on to a blank DVD. I can put the DVD in to the drive. Thats a great start !!! I am looking for the simplest way to "rip" and burn. Even if it means downloading (hopefully free) burning software.

On my desktop CD burner it was pretty easy to burn from a CD to another CD. 2 trays and software to burn. I know this is more complex. I am somewhat computer challenged, btw. Thanks :)

Answer:Satellite C655 - Easiest way to burn a DVD

Hi lili60,

The most DVDs and CDs that you can buy are copy protected so I doubt you will be able to copy them. Usually you can only copy disks from friends with private pictures, music, etc. but common disks are copy protected.

For burning disks you can use the freeware tool ?CD Burner XP?. That?s really nice tool that provide all necessary functions for burning disks. You can download the tool here:
http://cdburnerxp.se/

On the same page you can also find an online help how the program works.

If you have more questions, please let us know! :)

I am thinking of upgrading my Toshiba Satellite C655 with a faster CPU and am wondering if anyone can tell me which CPU's are compatible with this laptop? At this time it has a AMD V140 Processor 2.30ghz. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S50851. Thank you for any information you can give me.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C655 CPU compatibility

As a general rule with laptops, CPU upgrades don't really give decent increases in performance. Increasing system memory to max allowed and installing a bigger faster hard drive will give you the most "bang for the buck"...

I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite C655 and I cannot get any sound out of my external speakers.

I do, however, have sound from the small internal laptop speakers. I have looked at the configuration for the soundcard (Conexant CX20671) and cannot find any way to select an external speaker setup. I'm using the correct line-in jack (not the headphone jack) so I'm really confused as to what the problem is. Is this sound driver compatible with my external speakers (Logitech Z-540)?

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Satellite C655 - No sound on external speakers

If you are connecting the speakers using optical (SPDIF) or Analog?

What port did you plug the speakers into? You will need to use the Headphone Jack (Analog Stereo). The other one is usually the Microphone input jack.

Remove battery but keep the charger plugged in. Can you run your laptop now on the charger alone ? If your answer is yes, then your battery or its charging circuitry might be at fault. If your answer is no, then your charger is at fault.CoolGuy

So just like 1000s of others I imagine, Windows 10 violated my C655. I believe it successfully wiped out any trace of Windows 7 for recovery. I even tried a disk I made with the same laptop a year or so ago. It tells me that it doesn't match the hardware. Nice. Tried the "0" at boot to refresh but I get an error code. Command Prompt pimp trying sfcconfig and diskpart. Nada. Zip. Last resort is to erase the hard disk, which may fail also. Will that be an even bigger pile of "ish" to deal with? Opening up a can of worms quite possibly? Will I be able to use my Win7 key located at the Windows sticker on the bottom of this brick? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Everybody

I?m from Ukraine. My friend bought laptop Satellite C655-S5507. After a week he got a black screen while turning on laptop. Laptop was bought in USA, and there is no possibility to send it in an official service center.
It seems to be that BIOS crashed. I have an experience in laptop repairing, and I?m sure that this is problem with BIOS.

I went on an official Toshiba web-site on support page, to get BIOS file (I'd like to use USB programmer, to flash the BIOS), but there are no such a model (C655-S5507). I've read that this model was produced for some stores in USA, and there are no official drivers for it and also bios file.

Please send it (BIOS file) there or on email ([email protected]) , because laptop without it will be sold by parts, and there are no possibility to repair it without original BIOS file :( .

Answer:Need BIOS file for Satellite C655-S5507

You are right. This is US notebook model. Problem is that I cannot find anything on this US support page.

My advice is to post this on US Toshiba forum http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computers/ct-p/c_laptops/tshb and hopefully someone there will be able to help.

Let me start off by saying I am not very tech savvy lol

I have been having issues with this laptop lately. When I try to do updates on things such as Adobe and I have to choose between 32 or 64 bit, it recommends 32 bit, but I'm supposedly running on 64..

It takes forever to load pages on the internet, and now I can't even see video content through sites like youtube. I have all these services running that I don't even know what they are or if they should be running, can anyone help me get this laptop running better?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C655 running horribly help pls

Hi, we need more info on your system, to begin 2 gb, on a 64 bit system is not going to cut it, you do need 4 gb of RAM, so this would be my first consideration.

Very hard to read your screen shots in a meaningful way, go to start search and type cmd, right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" at the prompt copy paste:-

Code:
echo > 0 & tasklist /v >> 0 & net start >> 0 & systeminfo >> 0 & echo >> 0 & notepad 0
press enter, please copy paste the notepad outcome here.

BTW:- from the systeminfo cmd you can delete the windows updates(hotfixes) we don't need them, will reduce the size of the post.

The problem started a few days ago. My toshiba satellite c655 wouldn't boot. It hangs on the boot screen showing the windows logo and would beep 4 times then start again. I ran the utility to diagnose the problem and it said it couldn't find anything. I can enter safe mode and eventually my computer will stop beeping and will work normally. Yet, every time from then on my computer will hang on the windows screen and beep before it starts. I 'd like to the solve the problem before my computer completely refuses to turn on. I can't find the p.o.s.t. codes for my bios. I am wondering if my keyboard is the cause of this problem because most of the keys aren't working. I am using an external keyboard now.

Sometimes when I wake my laptop up after sleep or hibernation the screen will be way to bright/high contrast to the point where I have trouble reading icon names on my desktop.

The only way I've found to fix it once this happens is to restart, then it's fine. It only does this once in a while.

It's pretty new, not even a year old, so I doubt it would be the back light going bad.
I was just wondering if anyone knew why this would happen and if it's something I should be concerned about?

I have a Satellite c655 running windows 7.

Answer:Satellite C655 - sometimes screen is too bright after hibernation

Hi

To be honest this is the first time that I read about such problems.
Are you able to change the brightness using Fn + F6 or FN + F7 while this issue happens?

But these FN button combinations controls only the brightness and this does not affect the contrast? so not quite sure if it?s really an setting issue?
In worst case your display could be affected? so maybe you should get in contact with an local Toshiba ASP in order to check the internal LCD.

Hello -

I have a Satellite C655 that I purchased and year and a half ago. Over the last few days the fan has been kicking in a lot more than usual. By this I mean the fan or ventilator on the left - the quieter one on the right is always on and pretty quiet.

I'm not running any big programs - just the internet or Word but it's been going on every 30 seconds or so and will sometimes slow the computer down and the little blue circle in Word 7 will start spinning around.

I'm hoping it's that the fan needs cleaning and I have no intention of taking anything apart to try it myself. I use the computer for work so I need it all the time and would have to do some scheduling to have Staples tech guys or Best Buy Geeks do it for me.

Can I use a vacuum on the underside and side vent to pull out any dust - would this help or am I asking for trouble? Is there any way to clean the fan without pulling off any of the covers/keyboard?

Any help is sure appreciated. This is my first post so if you need any other information, please just let me know. Thanks so much.

Answer:Satellite C655 - Can I use a vacuum to clean the fans?

Your only way to get it clean is using vacuum or compressed air and blow out the dust.
If notebook should be cleaned on professional way it must be disassembled. It is only way to get full access to all cooling modules. Please this should be done by authorized service only.

Anyway, try with vacuum.

Hi,

I want to know if I can change my Toshiba satellite mainboard with one who I can change the video card and the main processor. So I want a mainboard with non-integrated cpu and video card . It?s that possible?

Of course that I want more powerful in the performance so I want to use in design and rendering programs.

Answer:Mainboard exchange on Satellite C655-S5549

Hello Roberto

Please don't understand me wrong but I?m afraid you are mixing something. All your questions would be understandable for me if this forum were related to individual hardware configuration for desktop machines.

We are discussing here about mobile units or mobile machines with very limited hardware upgrade possibilities. Specific design and special constructed cooling system designed for certain hardware platform don't allow big hardware changes.

With notebooks there is completely different strategy when you think to buy one machine. You must compare hardware configuration and price, of course. Choose the best one and buy it.

You cannot buy some cheap machine and later exchange almost everything inside. Mobile machines are not designed for something like this.
If you need powerful machine with good hardware I?m afraid you must sell your Satellite C machine (middle range notebook) and buy some more powerful notebook.

I left my computer idle recently and came back to find the audio was, you guessed it, not playing. I checked my speakers: on and plugged in. checked without them: nothing. i looked at the Volume Mixer and found that it wasn't registering my programs were making any sound at all. my sound driver is supposedly up to date or not needing an update (Conexant CX20671 SmartAudio HD). I tried reinstalling the driver (kinda? uninstalled it and checked for software changes) and restarting my pc (restart happened first), no avail. I was listening to music not a few min before, any ideas how to fix? Ill take any suggestions

Toshiba Satellite C655 Laptop cannot restore to factory settings with or without OEM Toshiba rescue disc.

In short, I attempted to replace bad hard drive. First, I used spotmau to partition and format the replacement drive. Then, I changes the boot settings to usb dvd. I booted to the OEM Toshiba rescue disk to reinstall windows 7, 64-bit os. I used both a LG Super multi drive to install the rescue disk, and the laptop's actual optical drive/disk tray to no avail. The first of four disks did download. The second disk of four failed to complete the process.

Can't read from the source file or disk. PREINST11.SWM

Then when the system rebooted to windows, the following error:
The error, F3-F200-0002 An error has occurred. Please press [OK] to turn off the computer.

I reattempted the re install process three times with the same results.

Does anyone know how to successfully reinstall windows 7, 64-bit under these conditions? Thanks

I have relatively new Toshiba Satellite C655 and after spilling a (tiny) amount of soft drink on the upper left keyboard, the keyboard quit working completely.

After installing a new keyboard, most keys work except for the P, R, V, T, [, and Space keys. External USB keyboards work flawlessly. I bought another new keyboard and carefully replaced it, but the problem persists. After this, I tried updating the BIOS to no effect.

Is anyone familiar with this, and know how to fix the problem?

Answer:Satellite C655 - new keyboard doesn't work properly

Hi

I guess this issue did not appear in the past before the soft drink has been spilled on the keyboard. Right?

This means that this fluid is the reason for the keyboard problem.
I guess, both new keyboards are OK.

In such case the problem can be the motherboard or you used both keyboards which are not fully compatible. But I guess this isn?t really a problem.

Possibly you motherboard is affected?. :( but this is just an suggestion

Hi I got a new pc and I want to use my old hard dirve for extra storage and to get my old files off of it.

I'm not sure where to plug in the old hard drive on the new system. The small plug that runs from the hard drive on the new system has 2 slots next to it where it plugs into the motherboard or whatever.

Does it matter which slot I plug the small cord from the old hard drive into?

Here is a pic

http://www.tarantuladatabase.com/IMG00020.jpg

Also the big plug I think the power supply only has one cord on the new system then it runs into a nest of wires. But in the nest of wires there are some loose plugs that look like they may be extra power supply cords are they and does it matter which one I use?

Here is a pic

http://www.tarantuladatabase.com/IMG00019.jpg

The reason I'm asking is that in the old system the power supply was a flat plug and the loose cords on the new system have 4 prongs in them. Now the old hard drive i'm trying to connect also has a 4 prong port that looks like it would plug right in.

Thanks for all the help with this!!!

Question: Plug in hard drive

Hello

I'm not very good at computer hardware but decided to try to move a hard drive from my old computer to a new one. After examining everything I have 2 questions (sorry for possibly stupid questions).

There are no brackets (not sure that's the correct word) that could hold it up in the housing. The computer came with one set, but they are way too small, and the old computer's are too big to fit in the new housing. Is it a problem to keep the hard drive loose (diagonally) inside the housing (aside from if you're physically moving the computer around of course)?

The, from what I understand power supply, in the old computer has 1 yellow, 1 red, 2 black and 1 orange cable, but the new computer's only available cable doesn't have any orange. Is this a problem? I've read in some places that the orange one often isn't used by the hard drive.

Thanks a lot!

I bought this laptop for a great deal less than a month ago but the return policy was the first of January. On the 8th I spilled a water bottle by accident from doing some school work and not paying attention to how close it was. I know that it is a horrible choice to eat/drink around technology. I quickly turned it off, took out the battery, tipped it upside down to get some water out, then i took the keys off and dried it all underneath them, next i waited about 6 hours and was so worried i turned it back on and everything was working fine until I tried typing =( I knew i should wait longer so i turned it back off and waited 30 hours and it still wasn't typing right i.e press k kj90 comes up. Then I decided to just use a usb keyboard and do the rice thing to the actual keyboard. Now I am still using the usb one which can get annoying but I can live and it has been over 4 days since the accident occurred. Is it possible that it's still drying out some keys work but some of them type other letters that are close by it? Could I buy a similar model keyboard and replace this one? I called Toshiba and they said it wasn't covered and would cost $180 to get it replaced but I don't have that money. I have also checked online for the same keyboard replacement but I didn't find any but similar one's. Thanks

My laptop doesn't power on after I do a windows shutdown.

After it completely closes, when I try the power button nothing is happening (neither a led, neither the screen or the vent. it doesn't start)

After I take out the power supply and the battery for one minute and put it back, when I try to power on - it starts.
I changed the RAM memory with good ones, same thing. I cleaned up the laptop and put high quality thermal paste on the processor.

The model is: Toshiba Satellite C655-S5128.
This thing it happens since I cleaned my laptop.
(I mention that I do clean up for laptops everyday, so I know how to do it)

Answer:Satellite C655-S5128 doesn't start - power on problem

The unit doesn?t power up since you cleaned the notebook?
Hmm? these sounds like something went wrong during the cleaning procedure.

I believe you that you have lot of experience in notebook cleaning and you know how to do that but obviously this time you made some mistake? sorry to say this?.

In my opinion the issue is related definitely so some hardware problem? I don?t know who you cleaned the unit and what parts (beside the CPU) have been removed during this procedure but probably one of these parts have been affected or don?t function properly.

I will mainly be using it with macs, and on the apple site I found the smartdisk firelite, an 80gb for $379

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...5.10.3.24.13.0

But it's available elsewhere for $300.

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_g...668b77853a35f1

I think I'd prefer a drive that had used a usb 2 port instead of a firewire 400 (for speed...I compared on pricegrabber the speeds of the firewire and usb 2.0, the 2.0 is faster by 80 mbps). However, the firewire 800 is much faster, so I found this as the best choice..

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...5.10.3.16.13.0

The way I knew that the smartdisk didn't require cd installation/extra software is because it said so, and under "system requirements", a cd-rom drive wasn't listed (and it is listed as a req with other hard drives). So with the above link, the lacie drive doesn't require a cd rom drive, so is it safe to assume that it is really hot pluggable like the description says?

And if so, why is the lacie cheaper than the 80gb smartdisk?

Hi guys

basically im building my own pc, like new motherboard, RAM, graphics card case the lot. but i like my 500gb IDE hard drive and the mother board is sata compatible,. i have a cable converter for this but im wondering if my windows 7 OS will just run on the new mother board or not?

Thanks :D

Answer:Can i just plug my old hard drive into my new motherboard using my win 7 OS?

Your old hard drive will be recognised as a hard drive, but windows 7 wont be able to use it, as the windows drivers were for your last computer, so the motherboard chipset, sound , LAN, and graphics card were all set for your last system.
If you have a spare hard drive back up all your own data first, then connect it to your computer.
It may work with a default display resolution but will then probably complain about the sound hardware, lan, chipset etc. You may be able to load these drivers from your install disks.

I have an Inspiron 3452 and it came a a very small hard drive (SSD). I went to the accessories for this particular model and ordered a 250 GB hard drive. However, when I open the laptop there is a place a hard drive should go but no cables to connect it. What am I missing?

Hi there,

Having a problem with new external hard drive. Running Win XPpro on a laptop. Internal h/d is 30gig with just under 1g free, ram 756mb. New external Hard drive is Western Digital 160gig and connected to laptop via usb2. Managed to format and allocate drive letter (Z) and set partition but when re connecting to laptop the system does not see the drive. Can locate it via device manager under usb but system crashes when using computer management-disc management. Have tested the external drive on another laptop - Win2000 and all works fine, system recognises the drive and can save files to it etc so figure we set it up right.
Tried to re format the ex drive on XP laptop but system crashed.
Also tried to connect to intended laptop via firewire incase its a usb issue but same problem occurs. External drive is set to master. Unfortunately don't have the set up disc for WinXP.

Hard drive was bought so we can shift a bunch of media type files and programmes etc to it to free up internal drive which is maxed out.

Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanx!

Hi,

I have an Asrock k7nf2-raid motherboard & 2 sata hard drives. 1 is internal with windows xp installed, this one works fine.

The second hd is in a removable rack. This drive works fine until I remove it using "safely remove hardware". If the drive is removed in this way, whether it is re-plugged when the pc is on or off, it is not recognised by the operating system or the bios.

The only way to get this drive to work again is to cold boot the pc a few times until the drive is eventually detected, even then, windows tends to freeze when the drive is accessed.
After the next few boots, windows stabilizes & everything then runs ok.
In the mobo manual, it does say that the mobo does not support sata hot plugging, I but if this is so, then why do I get the option to "safely remove" this drive?
and if I cannot use this drive in this way, then why does all the above happen. surely the drive should be recognised on the next boot.

I also believe that nf2 chipsets do not support hotplug, but nf3 & 4 do. So again, why does this drive show up in the safely remove hardware group.

I have tried new cables. Swapped the rack for one out of another pc & tried a different hd, always with the same results.

Has anyone any idea why this keeps happening?
Thanks for any replies

Rob.

Okay so I figured maybe my battery was bad and bought a new one and the same thing is happening. I will plug it in and it says its charging... Shows the battery going up and down like power is going through it... But the battery power keeps dropping. Seriously getting pissed off now. Im not gonna waste my time sending it into toshiba i might as well buy a new laptop at this point. Has anyone ever had this problem before?

when vista came out I had decided to go ahead and get it, so I could be at least fluent on it for my job (second level internet support agent for an isp.) I had 2 hard drives on my system. 1 500 gig drive for my main windows install. and 1 1 TB drive for all other files, data, games, etc.

At the time, there was a virus infection going on in the xp install, so I wiped out the main hard drive. After this was done, i divided the 500 gig into 2 seperate partitions. 1 200~ gig, 1 300~ gig (around about these values, im a bit sketchy on them atm), put xp on the smaller one and vista on the larger one..

So for about 2 years and some change, the setup has worked fine. All of a sudden today, as i was looking over youtube, watching a vid, the playback slowed down considerably. after a reboot, same thing, but xp took forever to boot. the mouse would lock up, and work again after a few minutes. I booted to safe mode, the issue didnt go away. still took forever to boot. then I went to vista. it looked like it wouldnt boot up until the check disk routine popped up and started scanning. I got a few lines that read:
File record segment XXXXX is unreadable (x notates different numerical values that popped up).

After vista reported that it had recovered orphaned files and tried to repair them, i rebooted to xp, for a few minutes it worked, then the issue came back.

I disconnected the 1 tb drive and now it works flawlessly again. Used the xp cdrom to go to recovery console. chkdsk and vario... Read more

I am working on my Dads desktop pc. The hard drive had physical failure and was unusable anymore. I just threw in a used one I had laying around so he could get going again. That makes the 2nd time this OEM copy of the Windows XP Home had been installed and activated (second time on today 7-11). I can hear slight clicking coming from the hard drive. I was unaware that he had plans to go purchase a brand new hard drive today, a few hours after I activated it.
Now, my questions are:
1- Is there anyway I can copy windows from the already activated hard drive to the New one without having to reactivate it? Disk image or something?
I know you are only allowed so many activations and I dont want to go over that limit and cost him money on having to buy another copy/key.

2- If this is not possible, I will just make this new drive a slave and put it in. Any thoughts on which would be best in this case......keep it on the same c drive, or make it on its own partition?

Thanks
John

Answer:Input on New Hard Drive and Xp Activation Please.

You won't have to worry about going over the limit. If you ever do go over your limit and Windows will not activate all you have to do is call the number for phone activation. A computer will answer the phone and ask you to repeat a product ID that you will see after the activation fails. Once you give the english understanding computer the ID, activation will fail and you will be automatically transfered to a real person. Tell them your circumstances and they will give you a new 40-some digit ID to type in. Once you do that your all set to go and Windows will activate successfuly. It is a 3 minute phone call to Microsoft.

A month ago I had defragged my 160gig hdd, while it was defragging it had locked and made tiny scratching noises.
Every time I move data in and out of the hdd it will make that noise if it's under to much pressure.
I need a utility program that will tell me if my hdd is saying it's dying or not, I have a 250gig maxline maxtor hdd coming in the mail today and I need to know if I will need to recycle my old hdd.

My old hdd is a seagate, any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Need input on a Hard drive that might be dying soon

Most BIOS come with a S.M.A.R.T. utility. Just enable that. It is supposed to detect when a hard drive is starting to fail - it isn't perfect but it is better than nothing.

If your hard drive is making a clicking sound i would say utility or not, your hard drive is failing.

My Toshiba Satellite A 105-S2071 hard drive went bad on me. Usually once every three months i've got to reboot the computer holding the f12 button down and reset the laptop to out of box state. This time it wouldn't even do that and i got a message about hard drive failure. The hard drive is a mk8032gsx. It has 80gb. I'm looking for a new hard drive to replace it but will the Western Digital ones from Best Buy work? If so which one? I wouldn't mind bumping the g's either. Is it as simple as pulling the old one out and slipping the new one in? I've already pulled the old one out and it was simple. So i assume that sliding the new one in and doing the usual hold down f12 and return it to out of box state will work, right? Any input appreciated. Thanks.

Folks,

Here's the background:

Computer has an Asus M5A88-M motherboard, with an AMD FX-8350 cpu. It had been running Win7/64. It has two harddrives, an SSD Samsung 850 evo (C drive) and a WD Black spinner (D drive). In Win7 I was unable to get the SSD into AHCI mode. (The mobo has Sata ports 1-4 as either IDE or AHCI or RAID, and ports 5-6 as IDE. I have Bluray ODD in port 6.)

I decided to upgrade to Win 10. Prior to the upgrade, I disconnected the D drive, which shouldn't have anything on it but games and some personal docs and pics. I performed the upgrade with just C connected.

All was good.

I successfully changed my C drive to AHCI mode. Rebooted several times. All was still good.

By "all is good", I mean EVERYTHING seemed good, and the internet/networking worked.

This morning, I decided to plug in the D drive back into SATA port 2. Upon booting, there was a yellow exclamation symbol over the network connection near the task tray and I had no network at all. I used a usb stick to upload the latest Win10 Network driver for the mobo's Realtek 8111E network interface. The yellow error symbol remained.

I tried various troubleshooting techniques (safe boot with network, limited services, etc.) and nothing changed.

The network switch shows connectivity and the port on the rear of the computer shows a solid green light and flashing yellow light. That indicates Gigabit speed connection and data input/output. This is with the yellow exclamation symbol and no ne... Read more

Answer:If I plug in my D hard drive, I lose my network?!?!

Additional information:

- I've just powered down, disconnected the D drive, booted and again all is good...

- Powered down again and connected D drive to Sata port 5 (an IDE drive). Booted up...and all is good.

The problem seems to be using D drive (which is PURELY a data drive as far as I know) in the AHCI mode. Looking at Disk Management, the D drive seems to be an MBR style.

Note that the D drive is totally accessible when it is in the Sata 2 port (AHCI port). There is nothing wrong with accessing or using D drive. The only symptom is total network dysfunctionality. (Sata port 5 allows networking and D drive access.)

I'd like to use it in one of the AHCI sata ports (1-4).

Still stumped...

hello........my friend has given me a 128MB portable item (it is the size of a keyring), that you plug into your usb point and it is supposed to come up on your computer as another drive. I haven't used it yet but can you tell me if I can use it to load and store games (as my hard-drive is almost full)..........or should I buy a second hard-drive? also for a beginner, would you suggest I buy an external hard drive, rather than an internal one (as then I would have to fit it)
Thanks

Answer:portable usb plug in 128mb/hard-drive

You are not going to get much of a game on a 128mb USB keyring drive, its excellent for transporting files, powerpoint presentations etc, but not for games.

I would recommend getting a second hard drive, internal (cheaper) and generally faster. They are not hard to fit and prices are very low at present.

If you post your machine specs here you will get advice on what to go for and also on where the best deals are.

I have a USB hard drive that prevents the bootup process from starting. If I unplug it and reboot, the system boots normally. After booting the system, if I connect the USB hard drive the system sees the hard drive and I can read and write to it. I would like to attach the USB hard drive to my computer, boot the system, and have the system discover the hard drive and attach it so after the bootup process finishes I can read/write to the USB hard drive. What causes this not to happen?

PSU and hard disk drive went on my daughters old E machine - have followed advice on this site and replaced both. Computer now starts - but does not appear to be any output to the monitor, or power to DVD/CD drive. Have checked wires, but nothing obviously wrong. As soon as the computer is plugged in, it starts and appears to override the on/off switch on the front of the machine,(not the psu). I am a complete novice with the internal workings of computers, and am surprised how easy things were.....so far!!!! Any advice before I call in and pay for a expert!!!!Many thanks

Answer:Hard drive replaced - now no monitor input

Sounds like you haven't installed the relative drivers. You may required your motherboard software disc and your monitor software disc.

Hi, I am currently experiencing problems with my new hard drive that i just bought.
It is a WD 200GB 7200RPM Caviar EIDE Ultra ATA/100 Hard-drive. I mainly use it as back up drive.

Since i installed it, the file transfers to it from other hard-drives have been very slow and whenever i try to run a any kind of media fiel from (depending on the size of it) i notice that it takes longer to load and properly play it. Some files that are 1.7GBs don't even play properly... they keep on stalling.

What are my options here?
Is this a WinXP issue?
Is this a hardware issue?
Do i need a hard-drive controller?
Anything i'm missing here?

I use this PC for video editing and graphic design. So i have it configured optimally for my needs. Here is my setup:

Pentium 4 - 2.53Ghz
1024MB RAM
WinXP Pro w/SP1
Canopus DVStorm2 w/MPEG encoder HaRDWARE
Matrox Millenium G550 Video Card
SB Live for Audio
6-pin Firewire Card
WD 80GB system HDD Master
WD 200GB Backup HDD Slave
Video RAID Drive 80GB x 2
RAID Controller Card

Also, i should mention that my main 80GB hardrive is connected on the same IDE cable as the new 200GB drive. And the main drive is on the end of the cable (furthest from motherboard).
I only experience slow PC performance when i run things off the new drive.

Answer:Slow hard-drive issues... need some input

hmm make sure that your're running the hard drives off a 80 connector cable, and not a 40 connector cable (80 connector very close wires, 40 is less close wires)

I'm shopping for a new hard drive. My PC is a Gateway DX4822-01 still at mostly factory specs(stock motherboard, PSU, RAM, etc). We'll assume I intend to buy this drive and keep it stored away as a backup should my primary drive fail for some reason, that way I can just put it in and use it without delay.

My budget will probably be around the $75 mark and I'll likely get a 1 TB drive for that, but I am free to be a bit flexible.

1) Is it safe to buy these from Amazon? Will the pack securely? Or should I just buy from Newegg, or go to the nearest Best Buy and avoid any mailing whatsoever?
2) What's the current go-to brand, WD or Seagate?
3) assuming I go with WD, is the black worth the extra cost, or will blue suffice? I intend to avoid green, I have a green drive and I admit it's a bit slower than I care for. Though I've also heard the blacks can be a bit noisy. My basic use is mostly gaming.

Does anyone know why when I try to play CD's or CD ROM's I get a box up saying I/O input error?
I have an Satellite L10 with a DVD super multi drive. It can play DVD's and DVD ROM's.

I thought maybe it was the cable that connected the drive itself but if it is that I would need to how to get the drive out and how to put it back.

I have tried updating the driver and uninstalling and reinstalling the drive but I still have the same problem.
Can't use any of the software that came with it as it is all cd's.

Please can anyone help me.
Thanks

Answer:Satellite L10 DVD Super Multi Drive - I/O Input Error Message

Hi

In most cases the I/O Input error message is related to a hardware (CD/DVD drive) malfunction.
The drives laser lens cannot calibrate properly and therefore it cannot read from the inserted CD.
Such errors are not uncommon and happen mostly after a long time of usage due to a stressed hardware.

But let?s check last solution possibility;
Go to device manager and remove the CD/DVD drive from the device list.
Then start the registry (regedit) and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Then restart the notebook and check if it?s possible to read from some CDs.

Hi everyone,

I am in need of someone helping me to find a solution cause I have found nothing at all to fix it.
The issue is that every time I plug in my Seagate Freeagent Go external hard drive I get BSOD a few moments after. This only started happening yesterday after it froze, it was plugged into a media player and randomly froze. I often use it with media players, although yesterday it was plugged into a new one.

Over about 10 BSOD's it had shown me 3-4 different errors. One being ntfs.sys, with the description being something along the lines of "Something has tried to write itself to a read-only file". Sorry it's not exactly accurate, but it's along those lines.

if anyone can share some info on it or maybe links to fix it I would be extremely grateful.

Here are my specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Model: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
BIOS: InsydeH20 Version CCB.03.61.09F.1C

Memory: 8192MB RAM
VGA: AMD Radeon(TM) HD 6620G
Sound Card: IDT High Definition

Thanks for any help

Answer:Windows 7 - BSOD when i plug my External Hard drive

Hi -

24 BSODs in the last ~24 hours w/ a few different bugchecks; many listing ntfs.sys = NTFS File System.

Try the external HDD in another system - see if it works.

If there is backup software for the ext HDD installed - remove it.

Plug the HDD in and run HDD diags - SeaTools for DOS LONG test (boot from CD) - http://www.techsupportforum.com/2828431-post7.html

Is the ext HDD formatted FAT32 or NTFS?

My daughters HP laptop power plug is fried and can't get power to turn on. I would like to get her music and pictures off of the hard drive and put on my Apple laptop. How can I transfer this information without putting the hard drive in another computer? I'm new to site and novice at computer repair but would like to do this myself, if possible. Thanks.

Answer:Power plug fried - how do I get hard drive data?

If you are unwilling to remove the hard drive, you will have to get power to the laptop somehow. What do you mean by '...power plug is fried...'? Is it the socket in the laptop that got fried or is it the external power cord/power supply? Do you know someone who has access to an identical machine that you could use the power cord from and/or get your battery charged on their laptop so that you could run the laptop long enough to get the files off?

Hello,

I purchased a Seagate Expansion Portable 1.5TB Hard Drive USB 3.0 earlier this year, after purchasing this hard drive I have had troubles with the flimsy plug in port (the connection with the cord and the hard drive). It requires about 20-30 seconds of fiddling around with the cord to get it in the correct position and its driving me nuts! I've read about users with this same issue but I am yet to find a fix.
The drive should still be under warranty but as there is 800GB of data on it already and i have no where to store that data I'm in a bit of a pickle :S

If any one can help me out it would be much appreciated

Thank you in advance

Answer:Seagate Hard Drive - flimsy plug in port

So what would happen if the drive completely failed? Do you not backup the data if it's important? Drive's fail all the time, external drives are even more prone to failure since they are subjected to more abuse than an internally mounted drive.

If the unit is under warranty and it's an known issue or one that Seagate will offer then you should send it back for replacement. But if it's not a documented issue then they may consider the loose plug a result of physical abuse.

If warranty will not cover it then your alternate option is to remove the hard drive from the enclosure and install it into another enclosure.

forgive my newbieness, but I'm in need of a bit of assistance.

my 450w power supply had taken up buzzing sporadically when I was running high end games (ie, World of Warcraft, etc), and then started buzzing even when I was only running the OS and surfing the web. I removed a few of my components, with the sound remaining decided it wasn't a heat issue, but the power supply was most likely going out. Without wanting anything fried, I went out and purchased a 600w power supply. I swapped it out and plugged everything back in. It booted just fine, just had an issue with the case fan not starting up (that was my bad, didn't have it plugged into the PSU). It turned off after POSTing. The second time I booted it, smoke actually rose from the harddrive, and I got the burnt rubber smell. Is there such a thing as too much power? Everything else appears to be ok - just looking for some input before I trek to take this psu back. Thanks! Oh - here's my specs -

A psu will only give the system what it needs upto its maximum capacity, so, no, it's not down to too much power!!!!

It's far more likely that the hard drive was already on its way out!!!!

Unless, was it a hard drive that had both sata power and normal molex power connectors on it? If so, fitting both could have caused that, you are supposed to use one or the other only!!!!

When I plug in my USB flash drive or portable hard drive I don't get a window that pops up. Both drives will make a sound and show up in ThisPC so I have to go there to use them. Is there any way to fix this?

I've seen that happen once in awhile when I plug a drive into the same port it was in before and it gets the same drive letter. I haven't had a problem with it as I nearly always have File Explorer open anyway intending to work with it. But I don't know of any fix for it, actually just haven't come across for a fix in my 'net travels.

Can someone please help me? I purchase a new free agent 500gb external hard drive. When I plug the free agent external hard drive into one of the 4 usb ports it does not appear in My Computer. I have tried the external drive in my wife's computer and it works well and we can back up files. The only difference between her computer and mine is she has xp professional and I have xp home edition. I have all the latest window updates pack 1,2,and 3 including all the other releases. Although the external hard drive does not appear in 'my computer' it does appear in Computer management/disk mangement and assigned the drive letters to the external drive. This is fine, but as soon as I restart the computer it loses its drive letter and I have to start the whole process over again. But the external hard drive still does not appear in my computer. In the regular windows operating system, I have unistalled all of the usb drivers and then restarted the computer and reinstalled. The hard drive still does not appear. I have also unistalled the usb drivers in safe mode and reinstalled them in the regular window operating system and the hard drive still does not work. I have worked through the fault finding found on Seagate website and Window website and nothing works.I don't know what else I can do?

Toshiba Satellite Pro C660

Since we bought this laptop in November '10 it has had an intermittent problem with typing. Occasionnally the keyboard will either miss out characters typed or double type them. It can happily do this all day and then stop and go back to normal.
We have restored this back to factory settings and it still does it intermittently. Our IT man insists this is a software problem but has been unable to find out what it is.

Bizaarly we bought two of these laptops at the same time and they both have the same fault.

I have a 6 year old Dell XPS 600 desktop that I'm having major issues with. I'm not quite 100% positive that it's hard drive yet (I'm getting constant blue screens of death despite repeated reformatting attempts, I cannot even load windows).

But, I suppose the only way to find out is to replace the hard drive? The problem is, I've never done that before. I gather it's relatively strait forward, but the first question that comes to my mind is what hard drive do I buy.

This is the only info i could get from Dell on the one in my system, which I can't make heads or tails of:
MC249Hard Drive, 160G, Native CommandQueueing, 7.2K, 8M, Lead Free SGT-PU

I am just looking for a general replacement for this one. Upgraded, of course, but I'm not looking to spend money for something excessive. Would this be a good one to order, or would you suggest something else? http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digit...XJZE/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1319706047&sr=8-7

I gather that once I have physically installed the drive that it basically boils down to just going through the same motions as if I were reformatting, and that my factory reinstall discs from Dell will do the trick on the new drive?

As soon as I can get some direction here, I'm going to get one sent overnight---unless someone more knowledgeable than me has another idea?

Does it have the same power plug and sata port as a 3.5 inch sata drive?
I think it is a laptop sata drive.
Will a sata II controller work if the drive is a sata I drive?

IF the drive is Sata 1 and the controller is rated to Sata 2, the drive will still work.

I have always been able to record my keyboard recordings from my keyboard through my sound system to the laptop or PC. Since I have purchased this laptop, I cannot get it to record. I am using the same 3.8mm plug that I have always used. I noticed in another posting that a 4 pole 3.8mm plug is recommended (the type for phones, etc.).  Is this correct? The info I found on the plug says it needs a mic splitter to work with a laptop. Why was the LINE INPUT socket left off? This is really NOT a good idea. Having to purchase recording items AGAIN because of a differnt configuration is ludicrous.

I am experiencing an erratic text insertion point.
When using MS Word, WordPress, or other typing endeavors, the text insertion point jumps around while typing.
The result is;

1) what I type is inserted into text that is already written,
2) text is placed elsewhere on the page, or
3) written text is erased --- this may be a few words or a whole paragraph.
Typing is like playing a game --- can you type and watch where the words are placed or erased and still finish a sentance.

I use a Satellite C655 which I've just purchased through BJ's, Word 7, Internet Explorer, and Word Starter 2010.
I don't like this version of Word, but my disk for Word 2003 will not install due to a "missing file" -- go figure.
It installs on my new desktop under Windows 7.

Any suggestions? Is this a problem such that I should return my laptop to Toshiba?
Since I am a writer, this problem is a severe one for me.

If your notebook use a old BIOS version, please update the BIOS to the latest state.
Furthermore you should disable the touchpad while typing.

I have had my Satellite M30 for 2 years now and it has never given me any problems, until a few weeks ago. The problem started soon after I upgraded Windows to SP2, when I was playing a game it would stick for a minute or so, and then carry on as normal, the problem slowly got worse and started blue screening with 'Unknown Hard Error', and occasionally the odd tool tip at the bottom right hand side saying ?Unknown Hard Error? and then freezing. It also took a long time to boot up and to generally do anything.

I assumed that it was a problem from when I upgraded to SP2, so decided to re-install Windows and start over again, updating the BIOS while I was at it.

Once this was done it seemed fine for an hour or so, but then tried to install a game and sure enough, the good old blue screen appears and the whole problem starts again.

I took it to a repair shop and explained the problem and that I had re-installed Windows to no avail, and that I suspected that it may be a hardware fault, I left it with them and 2 Days later I get a call saying its all fixed and ready to be picked up, I asked what was wrong with it and they said they re-installed Windows and its now working fine (which is what I told them I had done and hadn?t worked!). I picked it up (and got charged ?40 to have done what I had already done). I got it home and all seemed ok?..for a few hours, then the blue screens appeared telling me all about beginning physical dumping and the usual stuff.

Answer:Satellite M30: Unknow Hard Error - Could it be a hard drive problem?

Hi

Does the blue screen appear only if you play games???

But I agree with you. In my opinion there could be really a hardware malfunction.
The question is --- it?s a HDD or something different?
Hmmm?. I think the issue is not related to the HDD but maybe to the overheating??
According to the posting it happens when you play games. The game is a heavy performance application. All devices run with full performance and produce warmness.

I?m not 100% sure but possibly the high temperature has a bad influence on the system and therefore the BSOD happens.
You have suggested that the notebook run for about 2 years properly. Maybe fans cannot cool properly because of the dust and debris. Two years is a long time if you have not cleaned the cooling modules and fans.

Hi

My Satellite Pro M40 hard disk has died and I want to install a new drive. Unfortunately my old drive is 60Gig and the Toshiba parts website has only 40 Gig or 80 Gig drives.

Will I encounter any problems with the recovery disc if the hard drive is not exactly the same?

Your advice would be appreciated.

C

Answer:Satellite Pro M40 hard drive failure - Recovery disc on new drive?

No, there shouldn?t be any problem with the Toshiba recovery CD.

On the recovery CD you will find a Windows OS, Toshiba drivers and utilities and additional software.
These whole applications are packed in image files.

You should only be sure that the HDD is compatible with your notebook and will be recognized in the BIOS.
Then just simply boot from the recovery CD and the installation should start.

I have the Satellite Pro A10 C2.2GHz/XP Home/256MB/20GB/14TFT/DVD/LAN. One Day, the computer just froze then reset, and would not boot again, and I kept getting the mesage:

or

"A DISK READ ERROR OCCURED"

I have tried a few hard drive checkers, but they are unable to get anywhere, because they can't access the drive. Does anyone know of any solution to this, or if not, where would be the best place to get it replaced, because my warranty has run out.

Any help appreciated,

Answer:Satellite Pro A10 Hard Drive

Hi John,

Unfortunately it sounds as if your HDD has crashed. The message from your BIOS is normally waht you see if the PC can detect no bootable devices. Usually it finds a bootable HDD.

Assuming that you have the Toshiba recovery CDs you could try to restore your system to your existing HDD (it will automatically reformat the drive first), but you may well find that it will simply fail to restore because of the drive failure.

Your next option is to replace the HDD. You can do this yourself quite easily, or you may prefer to take the notebook to a Service Agent for them to do it. Note that you will still have to rebuild your system from the recovery CDs whichever option your choose.

Since your unit has a standard 20Gb HDD you could take this opportunity to install a larger capacity drive.

any help??

Answer:Satellite A30 - new hard drive

Hi Michael

Apart from maybe changing the Master/Slave / Cable select setting, you will not need to do any programming or anything like that. If the drive works inside the computer it will work at once without any tricks from your side.

It might be however that the BIOS will not recognise the 80GB. There is a kind of logical 'step' somewhere between 60 and 80 GB that some BIOS'es can not handle.

Good luck

Hi,

At the end of December I had to send my A40 back to Toshiba for a new hard drive as it failed completley.

It is now March and I am beginning to have the same problems yet again, I went to open Miscrsoft Outlook yesterday and the whole machine simply locked up with the hard drive light constantly lit up but no movement.

When I rebooted the machine it just froze on the windows xp logo, this being the start of my problems with the previous hard drive. I have a backup of the drive and think it could be windows currupt I resinstalled the backup but the same problem began to emerge again, and I know that this was a "good" backup image.

I have tried to run scandisk but it gets stuck at 9 percent and locks up, I have tried a full reformat of the drive using and windows xp insall cd but this gets to 8 percent and locks up.

I am just witing for that clanking sound that the last drive made when it finally went completely.

Does this sound like a hard drive issue...? and should I be contacting support as I have the extra 2 years warranty on it. Just don't want to be told it is a software problem and I am sure it's not.

Regards
Brian

Answer:Satellite A40 Possible Hard Drive Fault..?

Follow up to this, Scandisk is now running and reporting lots of bad clusters and saying that they have been replaced.

Surely this has to be a hard drive fault and requires service, rather than waiting for it to go completely.

Hi
I own a Satellite P133 with a 80Gb HDD and I would like to replace the HDD.

1. how do I 'safely' take it out?
2. up to how many GB can the Satellite stand
3. can a non Toshiba be fitted? 99% yes, but sometimes producers are naughty and try to get you to buy what they want and consequently loose a customer!!

Can anyone help with the above questions?

Thanks

Answer:Hard drive upgrade on Satellite P30-133

Hi

First of all one question; Do you really have an Satellite P133??
This notebook is not known to me and I don?t think that this series exists.

I saw your other thread and it seems you have a Satellite P30. Am I right??

Ok? I will try to provide some info about the P30;

1) The HDD slot is palced at the bottom of the unit. You have to turn the computer upside down. Remove two black screws to release the HDD door. Pull on the tab to remove the HDD unit. Remove the HDD from the HDD case. Note: after the removing the HDD from the notebook you have to remove also the brackets which are mounting on both HDD sides.

2) You can use the 2.5", 9.5mm HDD with capacity 30GB/40GB/60GB/80/100GB/120GB. The HDD should support Bus Master IDE and Ultra 100 synchronous DMA

3) As far as I know you can use HDD from different vendors but the hardware specifications must be supported (see point 2 :) )

Hi,

I have a Satellite A30 running with a MK3021GAS hard drive. I would like to upgrade to a 100G drive but am unsure about compatibilty.

I am looking at buying either a Toshiba 100G MK1031GAS 4200rpm OEM or a 100G MK1032GAX UDMA 5400rpm. Are both of these compatible with my laptop?

Also I understand that there is a HDD size limit for some models. I talked to the Toshiba support peoplebut unfortunately they didn't know! I saw in a previous post that some people have installed 80G drives successfully. Has anyone got a 100G to work?!

Many thanks for any help...
Anya

Answer:Satellite A30 hard drive upgrade

Hi Anya

As far as I know Toshiba support can not tell you much about hardware upgrade. They are just there for some technical troubles and functionality issues. Hardware upgrade make just authorized service partner. They have precise information about that.

Satellite A30 is about three years old and I am pretty sure that 100 GB HDD will not be recognized properly. As far as I know the latest and newest Tecra and Portege models have 100 GB HDDs. If the information about 80 GB is right one I recommend you to built in 80 GB and on this way you will be sure that everything will works well.

In my opinion 80 GB is pretty enough. Do you think the same?

Hello everyone!

Could someone explain me what to do in order to connect a second HDD in the secondary slot of this laptop?

I've opened the lid but there is no socket or connector for install one.

For what I see, seems that I have to buy some additional piece, but I've no idea of what.
The manual is telling that there is this bay (hence it's usable since Toshiba bother to write it's presence in the manual).

Can someone help me???

I would really prefer it for practical reason to an external HDD even if will reduce the laptop autonomy when on battery.

Thank you!!!!

Answer:Satellite A200 UH1 - 2nd bay hard drive

If you want to connect a second HDD in this slot there must be a connector and if you don?t have one you can?t put in a second HDD.
Not every Satellite A200 has such a connector.
About this second HDD slot I founded the following information in user manual:
>HDD2: ? The availability of this feature depends on the model you purchased

But you can use a second HDD in the slot of the CD/DVD drive. For this you can use a bay for a second HDD.
Ask an ASP for this part. They can order it.

Answer:Need help with removing hard drive from a Satellite Pro M10

Hi there,

I cannot give you a diagramm or something but I can give the hint to take a look on the front left side of your machine. On that corner on the left side under the volume control is a little cover where the HDD is in. You must only unscrew the 2 screws which can be accessed when you turn your machine around and and look on the bottom of your machine. Do you know what I mean?

When removing these 2 screws you must pull out the HDD by taking some flat-blade screwdriver and stick it between the HDD cover and the case. Then gently pull that HDD cover out and you can grab the HDD with the cover and exchange it.

Voila, there?s your harddisk. It?s not hard at all.

But if you still have some questions then ask.

Answer:Satellite A30 - how to remove Hard Drive

Hi Tim,

The hard drive on your SA30 is underneath the optical drive so you need to slide the optical drive out of its slot (undo the screw marked F5 on the bottom of the notebook).

The hard drive will then be visible fastened in with four cross-headed screws which must be removed (two on each side of the hard drive. With the screws removed, carefully slide the hard drive towards the front of the notebook to disconnect it from its connector and carefully lift it out of its bay.

Hi, i recently updated the BIOS on my Toshiba Satellite Pro L20, and i have noticed that the hard drive keeps spinning down after about a minute, even whilst typing or surfing the internet. I've checked the Windows XP power settings and have it set to Desktop, with 'turn off hard disk' time set to 5 mins when plugged in, and 5 mins when on battery power (i always use it on the mains anyway). I have checked the BIOS settings to see if there's anything listed there, but there are no power management settings for the hard drive available in the BIOS.

Although the spinning down of the hard drive does not affect performance, i am worried that it may be putting stress on the drive from the constant powering up/ down.
The new BIOS version is '25/04/06 Windows Based Bios Update for the Satellite L20 (PSL2X), Satellite Pro L20 (PSL2Y) and Equium L20 (PSL2Z)', or file 2.20-WIN.

Answer:Satellite Pro L20 - Hard drive keeps spinning down

I think it?s nothing unusual that the HDD keeps spinning down if no application or OS need the HDD activity.
Furthermore the spinning down of the HDD has no bas affect on the HDD performance or on the HDD life time.
