Webcam image is mirrored on my Satellite C660-15K

Question: Webcam image is mirrored on my Satellite C660-15K

Hello

I have notebook Toshiba Satellite C660-15K. It have integrated webcam Chicony. Webcam is working in all programs but image from webcam is mirrored. If I run Toshiba WebCam Application i can adjust settings and fix mirroring issues but it works only in toshiba app while in skype image is still mirrored. I tried to install another drivers for Chicony webcam and add keys to registry

HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}/000/Settings Flip=1
but nothing changed.

Operating System is Windows 7 Home Basic.
What I should do to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance,
Slava

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Webcam image is mirrored on my Satellite C660-15K

Check please one more time advanced settings in webcam application and don?t use ?Flip? option.
I have tested it with Skype. When the pic is mirrored in webcam application than is mirrored in Skype to. When disabled, than is in Skype OK too.

If you go to this page https://forum.toshiba.eu/forumdispla...llite-C-Series there is a link at the top to "post new thread", this will allow you to post your own threads.

Clearly your webcam has not been detected, is there any chance that the wires from the webcam are damaged? was the laptop screen replaced?

Bit of a weird problem with the webcam on my C660 laptop. It works fine on skype no problems at all and captures pictures fine, but whenever I try and record a video, it makes a beeping noise when I press 'record' then completely freezes, the light near my webcam goes off (so I'm assuming the webcam itself is off?) and refuses to respond. I've waiting for an hour, hoping it would catch up but it doesn't. Eventually it has to be closed using task manager as it will not respond.

Any idea what's going on with it or why it's doing that? I've not added or changed any of the stuff it originally came with, I'm not very tech savvy so no idea how to sort it

Thank you :)

Answer:Satellite C660 - webcam is not recording

Have you tested functionality with preinstalled ?Toshiba webcam application??
You have ?Capture? and ?Record? options there.

Please check it and post some feedback.

Can this be done please?

Answer:Can I switch off webcam on my Satellite C660-1D7?

Hello

To be honest I don?t understand your question. Webcam is on if you use it with some application like Skype or preinstalled Webcam application. When the cam is on small blue light near the cam is ON.

When the application is closed cam will be off.

Please be so nice and explain your problem more detailed.

Hi in some BIOS version there is an additional option to enable the webcam.
Please check the BIOS.

If the BIOS would not provide such option? well, in such case I would assume that your webcam module is faulty.
If the webcam module would be OK, then you should see something in the device manager even if the driver/software would not be installed.

Trying to get this built-in webcam working. Had the laptop for a few years but never used this function before. I have skype that doesn't seem to detect it. Can't see anything in Device Manager relating to webcam or image or anything, and in program files under Toshiba all it has is 'Wireless LAN Indicator', nothing about a cam or mic, its as if it doesnt exist. After searching around I found I might be needing some certain drivers, and so I downloaded something called TC30295700E (which I believe is what I needed), I installed that and no difference seems to be made. Webcam completely undetected by the laptop even though its built-in...been at this for a few hours now, am I missing something here?

Edit: sorry I should specify, I'm running Windows 7.

Edit 2: Should also add that 'Imaging Devices' is nowhere to be found on the Device Manager.

Any help appreciated, thanks

I only bought my Satellite C660 on Saturday and have just opened the webcam for the first time.
It is REALLY blurry. I can't seem to find an option in the settings to fix it, and i've given it a wipe to check it wasn't just dirty.

I've read the posts about different lights which can affect the quality of the picture however I've just tested it out in different lights and it hasn't made any difference.

Can anyone give me any tips! I'm not really a techie person and I really want the webcam to work so I can use skype!

Hello,

I was recently messing around my USB settings and I've accidentally uninstalled the webcam driver. I tried a driver from the Toshiba support website but it does not install. Within the last year, I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (64-bit) so I think that might have something to do with it. I've also tried running the driver in compatibility mode.

If someone could suggest where I can go next, I would be very grateful!

The webcam works properly when using skype etc. But I have no acces to it from Windows, so I can't change any options or take a pic without using skype.

At the first day all was working great, and now after few months I can't even find an application (don't remember exactly the name, but pretty sure I tried everything and googled any other possibility). No, I'm not so dumb- I didn't deleted the shortcut from the descopt.
Windows can't find any application, nor there is any option in Windows control panel (just an adnotation in Device Manager saying that I have a Chicony USB2.0 built-in camera, it's working and there are drivers installed- installed originaly, I didn't changed anything.)
I tried to reinstall the drivers, no change at all (as it was easy to prefigure).

Then I googled that some C series Toshiba laptops have a Camera Assistant Software, which I didn't remembered to install on the first day (yep, I had bought "blank" laptop and installed Windows and drivers manualy). I thought it can be what I'm looking for, maybe I just deleted it accidentaly.
Didn't work too, when I try to run it it says that the camera is off (it's active) or not working properly (oh, rly?).
Maybe that is because the version of software is not good for my model (which can't get a technical support, there is no model like mine to choose from the list. Funny, isn't it?).

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Webcam software usage on Satellite C660- 1M2

What you need is ?Web camera application? and it can be downloaded from Toshiba download page.

Please visit http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp and choose your notebook model and OS. Your notebook is Satellite C660 with part number PSCJ1E.

You will find ?Webcam driver? there. Install it and try to use preinstalled software. Before you start it be sure Skype is off.

Does it work for you?

Hello!

I have just bought a Satelite C660, however it didn't come with a web cam or microphone, which I now require.

I note the slot above the screen which should house a web cam - is it relatively easy to buy something to fit in there and install it myself (I'm not very technical and don't have a good range of tools)?

Or, is there a reliable add-on camera / mic combination I should get?

The purpose of the camera is mostly Skype video conferencing. Might be of interest to do the Face Recognition thing too, but not absolutely necessary.

Thanks!
Chris

I?m not quite sure if I have understood your issue correctly.
The zoom option is available in webcam software but it?s disabled? Right?
In such case I recommend uninstalling the webcam software and removing this completely from the system. Then you should clean the OS using the Ccleaner.

Answer:Satellite C660 - Webcam and microphone not working

Hello

I mean is webcam picture just black or what happens exactly? Also what is with the microphone?

The microphone is a part of webcam so it?s enough if you reinstall the webcam driver. Newest vesion can be downloaded on official Toshiba website. If the driver is installed make sure the webcam is set as default input device. You can do this in Windows sound settings.

Is the webcam listed in device manager and does it work if you start the webcam software instead Skype?

Answer:Satellite C660-1NW - Webcam is not working with facebook chat

Hi,
if Facebook doesn't recognize your webcam right away when you want to share a video, click the Look for Cameras Again button.

Your Adobe Flash Player settings will pop up.
From the tab, make sure you select the correct type of camera you are using with your computer.

From the tab, you may also need to "allow" Facebook to access your camera and microphone.

If adjusting your settings does not work, try uninstalling Adobe Flash Player from your computer and download the most updated version of Flash-Player.

Hi

I?ve had my laptop for several months and all was well until yesterday when the internal mic stopped working then today I have come to use the webcam and it is saying that it has failed and needs to be restarted (I have done this multiple times).

I then endeavoured to download the latest driver which I have on my pc. I run the file but nothing happen afterward i.e. no setup wizard nothing.
Am I doing something wrong, do I have to delete the existing application?

What is wrong here?

Answer:Webcam and internal mic has stopped working on Satellite C660-1D7

Hi

The webcam should be listed under the point: Imaging Devices
There you should see USB Video device.
Can you see this?

If can see this, then uninstall the driver in device manager.
Then go to control panel -> software and uninstall the webcam software.
Then clean the OS and registry using the CCleaner.
After that reboot the notebook and download the latest webcam software from Toshiba driver page.
Install the webcam software and reboot the notebook.

After the notebook has booted up, start the webcam software and check if the webcam can be used.

I have a Satellite C660 series laptop. the web cam was working fine with the old driver installed..
I work away quite a bit and use Skype to speak to my wife while stuck in a hotel room...

I logged in as normal but skype couldn't find the camera, i opened the camera manually using the side browser bar on the desktop and got an error message "Device is locked by other application" I shut all other programs down which may be using it but still got the same message.

Still couldnt get it working so looked in the task manager and process tree to see if anything was running (didnt really know what i was looking for in the processes.)

I then updated and reinstalled the driver - this is the latest version of the driver and changed the appearance of the camera home screen - still got same error message.

Tried numerous times to install driver but nothing... yet the face recognition screen comes on and uses the webcam.... so i know the camera works but it wont open manually or with skype

Please help

Answer:Satellite C660: webcam message - Device is locked by other application

Hi

I think you cannot use the cam in connection with the skype because the webcam is blocked by another software? I assume its face recognition.

I recommend doing this:
Uninstall webcam software
Uninstall face recognition
Reboot the unit
Install webcam software
Install face recognition
?and then test it with skype.

I went on Skype to talk and I found that it could not detect a webcam, and the other person couldn't hear my voice. I checked the device manager and no imagery or recording device was found.
The camera and the microphone are both integrated. They have worked before.

There is another problem which may be linked. When I first got the laptop, when I pressed the fn key, a bar at the top of the screen would pop up which showed me what all the different f keys did. This no longer appears.

Also, when I first got the laptop, if I were to plug in headphones or an external microphone into the line-out sockets, a message would pop up. This no longer happens, and the laptop isn't receiving any input from a headset I plug into it.

I have tried reinstalling the webcam drivers but to no avail. According to the device manager it doesn't exist. If this were the only problem then I may put it down to damage, but the other problems give me a feeling it has something to do with some kind of software I may have accidentally disabled or deleted, that has control over the webcam/mic and the line-out, which also produced user-interface elements such as that of pressing the fn key.

I cannot pinpoint a time when this stopped working as I have only just noticed the webcam and the microphone not working as I have not used them in a while. I have noticed, however, how pressing the 'fn' key no longer brings up the respective information on the screen.

The FN button menu which appears while pressing the FN key combination is controlled by Flash Card Support Utility.
Try to restart this software which can be found in All Programs ?> Toshiba -> Flash Cards

If this does not work, reinstall the Flash Card Support Utility.

It seems that the notebook supports Realtek sound chip. Therefore the Realtek HD audio manager should be preinstalled and placed in Control Panel.
Go to control panel -> Realtek HD audio manager
In the top right corner, there's a little yellow folder called "Connector Settings" in my version.
There, I could finally reactivate the setting "Enable pop-up dialog, when device is plugged in".

Hi,

Of course it?s color cam.
It?s a common webcam? Do you have just black/white webcam picture?
In your case I recommend checking the webcam software options.
Start the Camera Assistant software and in the Properties you could find the option called ?Backlight Compensation?. Check this option.
Furthermore in the ?Image? tab you will find some controls like: brightness, gamma, hue, saturation and sharpness. Play around with these settings.

ERROR: ImageX could not apply Win7 V:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\15489XSP.swm Index 2 from HDD to C:!

Unfortunately there is no some ?workaround? to force recovery image installation to run properly.
All you can do at the moment is to set BIOS to default settings and try to use recovery disc again.
Be sure disc is clean.

Strange problem. My Satellite C660D-1FM was doing a bunch of updates from Microsoft (hadn't done any updates for ages as it was used by my daughter and not connected to the internet) and after they had completed it rebooted and I got the Toshiba splash screen and then nothing. Holding F8 gives the same problem, tried holding the '0' key while powering on and that was the same. Connected an external monitor and it's the same. I can get into the BIOS and everything looks fine.

So, thinking the hard drive might be faulty I fitted another hard drive and fully installed Win7 from a Microsoft DVD (SP1 and all updates) and everything works. I then thought I'd try and restore the laptop to default factory settings using the Toshiba recovery DVD's which Id created. All worked fine during the install, all 3 DVD's installed and it went through the setup procedure, laptop got to the end when it wanted to reboot, rebooted and now back to the same error - Toshiba splash screen is ok but then it just goes blank. To convince myself I wasn't going mad I then re-installed Win7 from my Microsoft DVD and it installs fine, does all updates and has worked all day today with no issue.

Anyone any idea what's going on?

Answer:Satellite C660 - blank screen after recovery image instalation

Hmmm... something like this should not happen.
Do you use recovery discs for the first time?
Have you noticed the same result on both HDDs?

Problem is that there is no much to do about that and there is no way to change anything while recovery installation runs or later when windows setup is in progress.

Try to set BIOS to default settings and simply try to install recovery image again.

Hey,

I've got a satellite A660 PSAW3A-07P00R running 64-bit windows 7.
For no reason the webcam has just stopped working. Whenever I access it either from the toshiba program or through others (such as skype) I am faced with a black image despite the blue camera power light still being on. The wecam application works fine and all, it'll even take pics and videos even though it wont save them because it captures nothing.

I have checked in the task manager and despite me running on 64-bit windows 7, the program is displayed as "TWebCamera.exe *32" which leads me to believe that it is trying to run as 32-bit...
I have reinstalled the 64-bit webcam driver from the toshiba website _3 times_ yet I still have the same problem (yes, i did say 3).

This is really frustrating me and any help would be much appreciated!!
Thanks, Luke.

Answer:Satellite A660 - webcam shows black image only

Hello

That?s really strange behavior, mate?

But I can only imagine this problem is driver related and not a hardware issue? So try this:
Remove the webcam driver and restart your computer, run CCleaner (freeware tool) to clean and fix registry issues and restart again. Then visit official Toshiba page and and download newest webcam driver for your model and OS.

Normally after the next restart the webcam should start working successfully.
Can you confirm this? :)

And guess what. Any time I print something from word or the internet (just the 2 things I used to test out the problem) it prints a mirrored image! when i print a testpage it looks perfect. When I print from my computer (the computer that the printer is plugged into) it workes just fine.

I am really at a loss for ideas. I have tried reinstalling the printer but nothing really works. If i change the driver, it just wont print at all.

Please help

Answer:Network Printer is printing a mirrored image

not much i can think of, just go into your printer and see if theres an option you can turn off, maybe the driver is messed up, try and find a few drivers that work with it and try each one out.

Hi,

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Thanks

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

Hi

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

Hi,

My product is : Satellite P50-A-12Z

Please notice my webcam used to work well, I'm very sure that I removed the plastic protection over the camera many time ago.

Now when I switch on the camera (I've tried from different apps) the image is unfocused (see attachment camera_1.jpg)

I have noticed it is focusing if I put something very close to the camera (see attachments camera_2.jpg and camera_3.jpg)

I have also noticed that the focus is a bit better (but still unfocused) if I press the frame of the laptop near the camera (see attachment camera_4.jpg)

You can see in the pictures there are some little spots in the picture. Is that dust? or any damage in the lens? I've also cleaned the Surface but it did not work?

Any help appreciated. Thank you

I have recently purchased a Satellite C660D-14W, and when activating the webcam application, I cannot increase the image size from 160*120.

The image size (i.e. the image of myself that I see when activating the webcam) used to be much larger, but when I select the drop-down resolution menu to see I can enlarge the preview image, the only option I am given is 160*120.

A couple of times before this problem started, when I booted the laptop I got an error message saying that the webcam application couldn't be activated; I have uninstalled and reinstalled the webcam driver, but no luck.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best wishes,

Andy

Answer:Satellite C660D-14W - Webcam Query: Can't Adjust Image Preview Size

Hi

Even if the webcam driver reinstallation didn?t help you, I would still recommend checking this once again.
You should uninstall the webcam software firstly!

Then you should clean the registry because the registry still contains some entries.
You can use the CCleaner? it?s a good software to keep the registry and OS clean.

After that reboot the unit several times and then download the webcam software from the Toshiba page? then install this and reboot the unit.
Now check the webcam functionality!

Note: installed 3rd party software (skype, etc..) might affect the webcam functionality so check the webcam before you would install the software.

(I'm a computer novice plus I'm old -- to anyone who can help me, please bear these things in mind.)Here is my issue:  I fell asleep streaming videos and awoke several hours later to find my computer looked as though it had gone to sleep (dark screen).  I clicked the mouse to wake it up, and saw that first my start-up and then my desktop images were upside down; not only that, when I tried to navigate anywhere on my upside-down desktop, the cursor mirrored my actions, travelling up when I was directing it down and left when I was directing it to go right. This mirrored-action occurred when using either the mouse or the touchpad.
Upside-down image and backward mouse? These have to be related, right?
I've had this laptop less then 2 months, it's an Inspiron 15, 5000 Series, Touch, and I am not finding Cortana's help at all helpful.
Here is my question: I'd really like to know WHY the image went upside down and WHY the mouse/cursor began responding opposite to directional commands.  Is there an F-Key that my cat maybe stepped on to cause this to happen? (Otherwise I can only think that I have a ghost in the machine.)
My work-around was... I could not figure out how to get anything back to normal, and so I did what any novice would do: system restore. But this seems a little drastic, and I would like to know what could have went wrong, and so to perhaps learn a better way to f... Read more

Right-click on desktop -> Display settings -> Orientation

Pressing three keyboard keys <Ctrl> <Alt> <arrow key> together may also change display orientation, <Up> arrow key being normal.  I believe whether or not this works depends on your graphics card.

I have recently bought a new hard drive for my Toshibs C660 laptop after the original HDD failed. I then ran the Toshiba recovery disk and it got the computer up and running, with the exception of windows home premium ,which I have ordered online.Unfortunately, the image is compressed so that for example the text and images look to wide. People look short and fat. I have tried the control panel-screen resolution and otions to no avail and it would seem that the default is one screen width, which doesn't alow me to change it as I have done before on old CRT screens. Could anyone please help? Up to now as a computer novice, I've not done too badly.

I have a Satellite M305d-s4830.
My PC's operating system is Vista 64bit.

Cam and mic were working fine until one day the camera assistant software started showing a messagebox saying that: "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart the camera or computer."

Since then I tried everything that comes to my mind, but I think neither the cam nor the mic appear in the device manager. I also have the recovery disk for Toshiba.

What am I supposed to do?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite M305D-S4830 - Webcam driver open fail - Now webcam & mic does not work

Hi

> Since then I tried everything that comes to my mind, but I think neither the cam nor the mic appear in the device manager
Hmm? you mean the cam is not listed in device manager?
Neither an unknown device nor near a yellow exclamation mark?

Sounds like hardware issue? but try to recover the notebook using recovery disk.
If this will not help then it means that there must be something wrong with the cam?

I read in the net that some people had a similar issue.
The webcam worked when opened the laptop lid only halfway.
But webcam disappeared when the lid has been moved up.
Possibly there was an loose contact between the cable and cam?
In such case the ASP technician should check the notebook?.

The problem simply is, the webcam stopped working for some reason, an error messeage says "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer".

I noticed that whenever I put the computer in sleep mode I was getting on the icon tray a notification says "USB device unrecognized"... I wasnt aware what it was - thought it becasue of the USB mouse being plugged... but I think its related to the camera...

software is installed but camera is not working and cant enable it .. I did download the latest driver from toshiba site , but still not working ...

Currently my laptop runs Vista HP SP2 32-bit, Windows defender enabled, Windows Firewall Enabled, Windows UAC enabled, Kaspersky Ani-Virus 2009 Enabled. I only use Windows Live Messenger (which up to date I think , version : 14.0.8089.726) which i used camera with, I quite using face recognition long time ago and rarely use the webcam ... I didnt install or update any drivers and used to have the laptop running perfectly..

So what happened now ?!

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5: webcam stopped working - Webcam driver open fail

Hi

I have had a similar error message and could solve this by disabling the webcam software from startup.
In msconfig -> Start Up tab I have unchecked the Chicony webcam software.
This prevents it from automatic loading.
I don?t use MSN but Skype and the Chicony webcam software is always disabled (not executed) if Skype is running.

Maybe you should try this too.

Furthermore you could try this:
Go to device manager, mark the webcam (imaging devices ? USB video device) and deleted it from the device list.
Then reboot the notebook and wait until the webcam has been recognized again.

Then test it.

This message still keeps coming up. Is it worth uninstalling the camera completely then attemtping to reinstall it?

Sorry if some of this doesnt make much sense, im not entirely "computer savvy"

Of course!

You should firstly go to device manager and should uninstall the driver.
You should also remove the software from control panel -> Software

After that you should clean the OS and registry using CCleaner. It?s free tool? google?
Then reboot the notebook several times and install the webcam software again.

I have downloaded an updated webcam driver, but nothing.

Can anyone give me an idea of what is going on?

Hi

Are you using the Toshiba preinstalled OS? Is it Vista or Win XP?
As far as I know Vista needs Sp1 and other MS updates in order to handle the 3rd party software and drivers correctly.

I?ve got internal webcam and I?m using in with Vista and Win XP.
I have removed the webcam software from startup in msconfig.
This prevents the webcam from automatic startup while windows booting?
You should do this too?

Hiya,

firstly I am not sure if this is a warranty issue, but I always seem to be geting in post the closure of the offices at the moment.

The new laptop seems to occasionally play up and suggest the USB device not recognised.
On top of this the webcamera is not listed in the hardware settings.

I have tried re-installing the webcam drivers, but although they install ok the computer cannot actually find the webcam, i.e. its not listed in system devices, and forcing Vista to look for the camera does not result in any luck. (the microphone adjacent to the webcam works fine).
Every time I start the computer it now tells me I need to restart the webcam or the computer.

I am running Vista 32 bit, the 250D being a 1.9Athlon core duo with 2GB ram and definetly comes packaged with a webcam (I do seem to recall the little blue light coming on early during setup but never again since).

Is it worth doing a hard re-install, although Windows is normally pretty good at picking up new hardware surely??
I have had a look at the other webcam issues but the drivers are no good as I cannot actually make the webcam do anything.
I have been onto the Warranty page but trying to enter the Serial no. it says it doesn't exist.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Jason

Hi!

My model is Satellite C660-1LD .
I want to add 4 GB RAM to my laptop.

There is now 4GB RAM DDR3 *(1066MHZ)* on my laptop.
Can I add, or is it better to add 4GB RAM DDR3 to the second slot with *(1333MHZ)*?

And what frequency my computer will work? (1066mhz or 1333mhz).
What better RAM to add( brand, frequency) you think?

Also the RAM I found is Unbuffered, what it means?

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite C660-1LD - I want to add 4 GB RAM

This depends on your chipset.
If your chipset supports 1333Mhz then the RAM will work with full performance, otherwise it would be clocked down to 1066Mhz.

Hello all,

Yesterday all of a sudden, the laptop screen went blank. Upon turning it on several times, the screen still doesn't turn on. By connecting the monitor to a external monitor via VGA (my TV), the TV does show up the screen, but has several flickering horizontal lines showing, thus obscuring part of the screen (http://i.imgur.com/83RO8xg.jpg - ignore the windows behind, I was testing the sound - and it works).

I have tried several solutions on the web (like removing the battery and AC cable and pressing the power button, and interchanging the RAM card in the slots), and not surprisingly, nothing worked as I think my problem is not similar. Windows 10 just boots to a blue screen with a sad face and a QR code (I don't even know...), while Linux Mint does boot and gives a message of "running without hardware acceleration". I couldn't get any diagnosis on Linux to check if it's a problem on the graphic card or the motherboard, so I am turning to these forums to check if anyone had any similar problem.

Thank you.

I have the very annoying problem of key lag on my laptop which is a satellite C660 1-f-1 .

I've had the laptop for around 3 months and have tried the keyboard settings on all settings to no avail. I paid ?350 for this laptop and I'm getting increasingly aggravated !

I've read that the problem has cropped up with other models and that removing and then replacing the battery helps.. but I can't keep doing that mid conversation or e-mail !

I keep reading about these update download bios but have no idea what that means . Could somebody please explain in a plain English non-tech speak style please ?? !!

Answer:Key lag on Satellite C660-1F1

Hi Helenuk1963

A BIOS update is something that makes the main brain of the laptop smarter but this does not 100% mean it will fix it the normal fix is to run a recovery of the unit via the HDD by pressing F8 non stop on startup and selecting repair your computer then login and select Toshiba HDD recovery but before you do this make sure you have backed up all your data and created recovery disks via the toshiba recovery media creator in the start menu.

if you do want to run a BIOS update best thing to do is call Toshiba direct who can walk you though it and at least if something goes wrong it will be covered.

Question: Satellite C660

My brother has a Satellite C660-1H6 laptop. Unfortunately his HDD went bad.
I installed a new HDD and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium, which was originally installed on the laptop.
Setup accepted his product key and installation went relatively smooth, only problem is that after installing the drivers, I cannot connect to wireless network.
Laptop uses an Atheros wireless card, model AR9285.
Things I tried, following forum suggestions:
-Allocate a MAC address instead of "Not present" to the wireless adapter.
-Changing various drivers, including the one from Toshiba page and some from the Atheros page.
-I installed ALL the drivers, I don't have any unknown device or exclamation mark in device manager
-Installed ConfigFree, Flash cards support utility, Value Added Package, Wireless LAN indicator (some users select that some of these are needed)
-I ran Windows troubleshooter
-I did a factory default reset in BIOS
-Although I did not change the antennas before, I also tested the wireless with the 2 antenna connectors replaced the other way on the wireless card.

Fn+F8 works, I can enable/disable the wireless. I can see a list of available networks, including mine. When is try to connect, it asks for password. My router is using WPA2-PSK authentication and AES encryption. I type the password, it tries to connect, but I get the following error message:

Basically, my Satellite C660-2QN battery wore out the other day (1 month out of warranty, typical!).
I checked out Toshiba's replacements and decided to see if I could get a cheaper one.

I found on Amazon a replacement battery advertised as being for all Satellite C660S, it basically arrived today and I first noted that it said on the back it was modelled for Satellite Pro.

When I tried to fit it into my laptop, it was too large, though my mother, who insists it is correct, forced it in. It went fine for a while until the battery needed charging, at which point I plugged it in.

However, the battery doesn't charge, or if it does, very slowly. It's gone from 6% to 12% in around one-and-a-half hours. So I pose the question, does a Satellite Pro battery fit a regular Satellite C660?

If not, I'll keep using my old one as a placeholder and stay on AC power when it's in use.

Regards,
Ryan.

Hi,

I've been the owner of a Toshiba Satellite C660 for approximately five days, and I'm already experiencing severe keyboard lag. Like users of the L270 model, and other posters on this forum, the keyboard has dramatically slowed down and letters are being omitted, slowing down the typing process.

I've tried to update my BIOS, as numerous posters have suggested, but my BIOS is bang up to date.

I haven't tried removing the battery or anything like that. Frankly if I have to do that to get my keyboard working properly the computer is going straight back and I'm demanding a refund.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite C660 - Several keyboard lag

Hey,

I never saw any L270 users here... As far as I know there is no such a notebook model?

Anyway, that?s really strange and I never heard about such a problem on Satellite C660. In my opinion everything what you can do is updating the BIOS and using preinstalled Windows version. If you can still notice the same behavior, ask the seller for a replacement model.

I agree with new: This shouldn?t happen on a five day old notebook.

Hello everybody.
I have a laptop (model in title) that is running into a strange issue. It has happened two days ago: I was trying to turn it on and while I were onto win7 login screen, it suddenly turn off. Apart that fact, that of course is not related to what I'm asking here, when I tried to turn it on again, a white-blinking-dash appears into top-left corner of the screen.

First thing I had in mind: no bootable HDD; basically an error into MBR o something like this?

My first try was to access recovery partition (by pressing F8) but nothing happens. So I've tried also with every possible F{1,2,3,...,12} key but without success. Strange, I've never formatted my laptop, toshiba didn't mount a recovery partition for that model?
Ok, nevermind, as I'm an IT guy and I'm quite skilled, my second try was to create a bootable USB stick with some tool (like partition manager, gparted and so on...) and to boot the utility from there just to check and fix errors (if there are).

With my big surprise, this laptop seems not to be able to boot from USB!

What I've tried:

- Create a stick either with MBR for BIOS and UEFI (FAT32, NTFS)
- Create a stick either with GPT for UEFI (FAT32, NTFS)
- Switch BOOT order in BIOS
- Pressed F12 to select manually USB to boot
- Check for safe mode (that BIOS [1.40] seems not to have that possibility)
- Change to CMS (that BIOS seems not to have that possibility)

So I'm stuck here, wondering why this laptop can't make a normal boo... Read more

It?s NOT BIOS issue but the RAM modules are NOT compatible.
Even if the guys says that the RAM module are right, obviously they are NOT?

The 4GB Genuine Toshiba PC3 DDR3 (1333MHz) Memory Module PA3918U-1M4G should be OK and should work properly.
Also the Kingston modules are great and provide good quality.

Cheaper modules might not be fully compatible or would not work properly.

I have a Satellite C660-1MO laptop. My FN key doesn't appear on the top side of my screen.
I've tried to ?uncheck? the 'disable all function key' in the flash card setting but it still not fix.

I hope u could help me guys.
Thanks.

It runs in window 7 home premium. Will it be fix if system restore is installed?

Answer:Satellite C660-1M0 - FN is not working

Generally speaking, with ?factory settings? everything should work properly but recovery image installation (recovering) is last option.

Try at first to remove Toshiba value added package from the system, restart your notebook and install latest version from Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Please test it and send some feedback.

Hello people,

My laptop Toshiba Satellite *c660-1uj* won't start up.

It does nothing when I press the powerbutton.
When I plug in the poweradapter I hear a clicking sound this is with or without the battery and I also see the battery light(led) flashing green.

I think it got something to do with my motherboard but i'm not sure.

I would like to be sure before I buy a new one.
Does anyone know where the problem comes from and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Sjoerd

Answer:My Satellite C660-1UJ won't start up

> I think it got something to do with my motherboard but i'm not sure.
Yes, I think this problem could be related to motherboard problems.
But this would be the worst case since new motherboard is very expensive part? I gues warranty isn't valid?

But why you don?t test the memory modules? Faulty RAM can prevent the notebook from booting and powering ON. RAM module replacement is not very difficult.

Of course you would need to purchase new modules just for the check? but maybe you could visit some notebook/computer technicians? downtown who could test the unit with new RAM modules.
In such case you would not need to purchase the parts just for testing purposes.

Hi All,

I have a question about the Satellite C660 which I bought a week ago. Now I notice it uses DDR3 1066Mhz RAM, and with technology updating monthly, I am wondering if I was able to upgrade to DDR3 1333Mhz ?

I've read this model is upgradeable to 8GB RAM but cant find a speed upgrade post anywhere.

Answer:Satellite C660 - RAM Question

At first I must confirm that your Satellite can be upgraded up to 8 GB RAM and it is good decision to upgrade RAM to get more performance.
For upgrade Toshiba offers 4GB RAM with part number PA3677U-1M4G, so you can use two of them. This module is 1066 MHz.

Generally speaking you can use faster modules but that doesn?t mean your notebook will be faster than with 1066 MHz modules. If the FSB of mainboard is 1066 MHz faster modules must slow down and will work on defined ?speed?.

If your car can run with 250 km/h but speed is limited to 120km/h there is no much benefit for you, except maybe high gasoline usage. Do you understand what I mean?

Hi to all,

my sister in-law bought her laptop up to me today because it switches on and goes to the windows logo then all of a sudden theirs a quick glimpse of a blue screen and then it shuts down re-starts and does the same.
i can press the f8 key and i get the boot options, ie recovery mode but it just does the same thing, i then tried a windows DVD in the drive and it boots from the DVD and installs the files but then hangs with just a black screen and the white curser, its not froze at this point i can move the curser around.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do now?
Thank you in advance for your time.

Answer:Satellite C660 won't start

Can you start OS in safe mode?

I cannot say for sure what the problem can be but maybe you should reinstall OS using HDD recovery option. I hope everything should be OK with ?factory settings?.

Hi

I recently purchased a Satellite Pro C660 PSC0MA-01K00V from a online seller with all warranty covered. It came as a usual model would come like but with 6GB RAM. I thought it was a great buy so I bought it.

After it arrived, I looked at the specs on the website and it said the max is 4GB RAM. I dont know what happened. The memory in the machine is 1x 4GB Kingston 1x Samsung (original).

Could you tell me what it is and if I can probaly then even fit 8GB?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660 - Upgrade to 8GB RAM possible?

Hi foolman555,

Why you don?t believe the official specifications?

Satellite Pro C660 has Intel GL40 Express Chipset and this chipset is limited to 4GB RAM. That means your notebook supports only 4GB RAM and not more.

But usually 4GB is enough for the most applications and I don?t see a reason that an upgrade to 6GB would be so important ;)

Hi.

Toshiba Satellite C660-26H - OS Windows XP SP3 - Need drivers :)

I repair cars and many programs still using Windows XP.
I tried to look for these drivers yourself, but unfortunately found nothing.

Thank You

Answer:Need XP SP3 drivers for my Satellite C660-26H

If you cannot find drivers on Toshiba support page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp - then your notebook is not supported for WXP and you will, probably, not be able to find them.

Please note: all new notebooks are designed for WXP and just some models (mostly business machines) are supported for WXP.

When can we expect to be able to download the driver software to enable an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10?

And, when is Toshiba Support going to have enough staff to take calls within a reasonable time-frame? Sorry but a wit of 10 minutes on a premium rate number is not acceptable!

Answer:Re: Cannot connect Satellite C660 to TV

Hi

First of all you should connect both devices (TV and notebook) using an proper cable which is supported by TV and notebook.
Then you have to power up the TV and notebook and have to enable the HDMI channel on TV.
Now use the key combination FN +F5 to switch the video output to TV.

Does this work?

Hi
I wonder if someone can assist, the compter has bios win-1.90 issued feb 2012, looked today and they have issued new bios 1.70 dated 1/06/2012.

What gives there is no record of 1.90 version and I guess 1.70 is much earlier ??? and if one does a search on web (non Toshiba site) it shows toshiba 1.90 as latest.

Before anyone ask why do I need need Bios, some times have improvements

Thanks
Tony Miller

Answer:Re: Satellite C660/1J2 and new BIOS

I?ve checked Toshiba support page and you are right. Offered BIOS version is 1.70. I don?t know why lower version number is offered as latest BIOS update.

Anyway, check Toshiba page next days. Maybe newest version will be offered.
But let?s be realistic, if your notebook runs well you don?t need BIOS update. If you don?t have some serious problems don?t change anything.

"Windows was unable to connect to XXX" (I replaced the SSID of my network with XXX)
After that... Read more

Hi

I've been trying for the last few days to download display and sound drivers for my laptop. I've filtered to find the appropriate ones for my laptop, downloaded them, extracted them, it then asks me confirm that I'm happy for changes to be made at which point nothing happens. I've tried with several different downloads and none of them seem to be installing.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Need some drivers for my Satellite C660

I don't know which C660 do you have exactly and which operating system do you use but all drivers, tools and utilities for your notebook model you can find on Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Just choose your notebook model, Os and you will find all of them.
By the way: is there some problem with your machine or you just want to update certain drivers?

Hello I hoping you can help me.

I currently used the startup recovery mode on my laptop, as my laptop had been infected with somesort of malware, which slowed my laptop down, making it unusable, Therefore I turned to the recovery, after i did the recovery i found that i was unable to use my laptop, it seems to be that the OS is gone, I cannot access normal mode or safemode, And the Recovery option has now dissapeared from the F8 menu, I am stuck on ideas on what to do, I only got the laptop 5 months ago and now its totally useless.

I look forward to your advice,
Thanks in advance,
Aaron

Answer:Cannot recover my Satellite C660-1ZM

Have you maybe created recovery DVDs following Toshiba?s recommendation?
If yes you can install recovery image using these discs. If not you can order new one on - https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

HDD recovery installation is screwed up and you will not be able to start it anymore.
Sorry.

Hello,
I own a Satellite C660-1MG
equipped with Windows 7 and since the pc crashed often I decided to restore it to its factory settings. But unfortunately I have no cd recovery and I no have a copy of the dvd windows 7 so I can not restore it.
Also my PC deleted all previous restore points to 2015 so even with this procedure I will have no improvements.
I went to the Microsoft website to download a copy of Windows 7, but by entering the product key tells me that I contact the manufacturer Toshiba.
What I could use is the recovery discs for Windows 7 to restore the notebook to its factory settings,
thanks a lot,
I expect a fairer your feedback.
Best regards

Hello,

My C660 needs a new hard drive. It came with Windows 7 home premium pre-installed and I would like to return to that.

If I go to Microsoft to download windows 7 with my product key, it gives an error. I contacted MS support. I don't quite remember what they said but they couldn't help, possibly because it was a manufacturer installed version?

So If I get a new hard drive, how can I return to my previous OS, Windows 7 Home Premium?

Help please?

Answer:Satellite C660 needs new HDD - Windows 7

You can have previous OS (recovery image) if you install it using recovery media (DVD or USB).
I presume you didn’t create this recovery media in the past, right?

If you still can use your notebook and preinstalled OS try please to create this media using preinstalled recovery media utility. More about that you can read in user’s manuals document.

I buy one satellite C660-2DZ part no PSC1NE-01C004G5 serial no YB210637K and i put WIN 7 32bit.

I try all drivers from this site and no working, If you try to find this model of laptop on this site, not exist in the list.
I try LAN driver for Win7 and after start instal, tell me is ONLY for Win Vista and stop.

Why Toshiba not sell this laptop whit one CD drivers? Why my model of laptop dont exist in the list........for download all drivers

Plz help me !

Answer:Satellite C660-2DZ no drivers

Hi

The drivers for Satellite C660 PSC1NE can be found on the Toshiba European driver page. http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

But I found just the Win 7 64bit drivers.. however it?s not the big problem to get Win 7 32bit drivers? you can use the Win 7 drivers released for the C660 PSC1GE series.
The Toshiba tools like Value Added Package, Flash Card Support Utility should function also on your model.

You should pay attention to some other drivers like display driver. The C660-2DZ supports the Intel? HD Intel? HD Graphics 3000 and Mobile Intel(R) HM65 Express Chipset? both drivers (or just the HM65) could be downloaded from Intel page.

Furthermore the notebook supports Realtek Wlan card and the driver can be found also here

I wish to connect C660-119 laptop to TV but there appears not to be a HDMI port.
Can you advise alternative solution ?

Answer:How to connect my Satellite C660-119 to TV

It is a bit complicated due to missing HDMI port. According notebook specification your notebook has RGB port only and it can be used if you want to connect external display. This port sends video signal only.

You can use this port to send picture to the TV too. I don?t know which TV do you have and which ports has your TV but for sound you need separate audio cable.
It a bit complicated.

Hi.

In specification I can read that this model can be connected to the TV so I bought on eBay Scart to 15Pin S-VGA RGB Male HD TV LCD cable lead [http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280653117637&ssPageNam e=STRK:MEWNX:IT] .

When I plug the cable in (laptop is swiched off) then I'm not able to switch my Toshiba on.
I tryied to plug in the cable with laptop runing but can't figure out how to set it up.

Any suggestions?

Thx.

Answer:Satellite C660-15R - How to connect TV

Hi MusicInMe,

If you have connected the cable to your notebook and TV, press FN+F5 key combination as mentioned in your user manual to switch between monitors. You can choose between internal monitor, external monitor or both (clone display).

But I would recommend choosing the correct TV input channel first before you press FN+F5 key combination that notebook can detect the external monitor properly.

hi all

hope someone can help me with this.

I'm trying to put a new hard drive in a C660 but cannot get to the 'boot from cd' option no matter what i do.

If i press F2 i get the windows boot manager with one option.
Windows 7

If i go to F8 i get Advanced boot options.
Safe mode ect. No CD option

F12 takes me to Windows error recovery with 2 options
Launch setup repair ( recommended )
Start windows normally

Also tried 0 on powerup, that just gives F2 and F12 options.

Can anyone tell me how to get to boot from the cd?

many thanks

Answer:Satellite C660 -cannot boot from ODD

Hi.

Try to get hold of an external cd drive and set your bios to start from usb device or usb cd rom. You can also copy your installation disc to a bootable flash drive.

Hope it helps.

My daughter's laptop keeps freezing; I have used the internal `Repair' to set it back to the factory settings, but it is still the same. I have been told that it is a common symptom of a faulty hard drive, for which I was quoted approx £170.00 to replace and install the operating system. I am not a computer technician, but as I was a tv engineer, so feel that fitting a new HDD is within my capabilities, and as a replacement HDD from Toshiba is £80, this seems the logical thing to do; however before I buy a new HDD, can anyone tell me if it is correct that the freezing may be the result of it failing? I would just like the opinion of other people with computer knowledge before I spend my money, and I will not blame anyone if I choose to follow their advice and it doesn't cure the problem.
Any advice would be very welcome.
David

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro C660 - 1ux HDD

FReeezing PC

Overheat due to faulty / blocked fans
PSU voltages (not applicable to laptops)
Household power surges fridge etc switching on/off (does it freeze when running on battery only?)
faulty memory stick try memtest click here virus or spyware scan for both especially if shutting down with in a few minutes of switch on or internet use
driver conflicts especially graphics cards get the latest drivers for your equipment.

You can run a check on the drive. In explorer right click the drive select properties - Tools tab - check drive.
It may also freeze if there are a lot of windows open at the same time and cpu is at 100%
Or if there is not much spare space on the drive.
Model of toshiba laptop? Most hard drives ae easy to change as located under a cover on the base , some are harder to get at as may be under the keyboard. We can probably find a Youtube video or strip down instruction easy enough.
If it really is the drive then you an image the whole drive to an external drive using the free Macrium reflect make the rescue media from the same program - fit a new drive and restore the image to the new drive.
