Satellite Pro C660-24k: Webcam/Microphone and user interface issues

Question: Satellite Pro C660-24k: Webcam/Microphone and user interface issues

I went on Skype to talk and I found that it could not detect a webcam, and the other person couldn't hear my voice. I checked the device manager and no imagery or recording device was found.
The camera and the microphone are both integrated. They have worked before.

There is another problem which may be linked. When I first got the laptop, when I pressed the fn key, a bar at the top of the screen would pop up which showed me what all the different f keys did. This no longer appears.

Also, when I first got the laptop, if I were to plug in headphones or an external microphone into the line-out sockets, a message would pop up. This no longer happens, and the laptop isn't receiving any input from a headset I plug into it.

I have tried reinstalling the webcam drivers but to no avail. According to the device manager it doesn't exist. If this were the only problem then I may put it down to damage, but the other problems give me a feeling it has something to do with some kind of software I may have accidentally disabled or deleted, that has control over the webcam/mic and the line-out, which also produced user-interface elements such as that of pressing the fn key.

I cannot pinpoint a time when this stopped working as I have only just noticed the webcam and the microphone not working as I have not used them in a while. I have noticed, however, how pressing the 'fn' key no longer brings up the respective information on the screen.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

>There is another problem which may be linked. When I first got the laptop, when I pressed the fn key, a bar at the top of the screen would pop up which showed me what all the different f keys did. This no longer appears.

The FN button menu which appears while pressing the FN key combination is controlled by Flash Card Support Utility.
Try to restart this software which can be found in All Programs ?> Toshiba -> Flash Cards

If this does not work, reinstall the Flash Card Support Utility.

> Also, when I first got the laptop, if I were to plug in headphones or an external microphone into the line-out sockets, a message would pop up. This no longer happens, and the laptop isn't receiving any input from a headset I plug into it.

It seems that the notebook supports Realtek sound chip. Therefore the Realtek HD audio manager should be preinstalled and placed in Control Panel.
Go to control panel -> Realtek HD audio manager
In the top right corner, there's a little yellow folder called "Connector Settings" in my version.
There, I could finally reactivate the setting "Enable pop-up dialog, when device is plugged in".

I?m not sure about the webcam issue.. maybe the system is muddled up? the Skype and face recognition software uses the same cam so maybe you should uninstall webcam software, skype and face recognition software and should reboot the notebook. After that install webcam software, face recognition software and skype again.

Answer:Problems with Integrated Webcam/Microphone and user interface issues

If Device Manager is not showing some devices at all (not even as unknown devices), and driver installations abort with "can't find device" error, that almost certainly means faulty hardware. If several devices are affected at the same time, it could indicate a faulty motherboard.

I've had my laptop for less than a year. I've always been able to use Skype without any problems, but my intergrated webcam and mic are no longer working.

I've installed the latest webcam driver from support, but the webcam still does not work and I installed the latest sound driver and my mic still does not work too.

Please, please please can anyone help?

Answer:Satellite C660 - Webcam and microphone not working

And why does webcam and microphone not work? How do you notice this?
I mean is webcam picture just black or what happens exactly? Also what is with the microphone?

The microphone is a part of webcam so it?s enough if you reinstall the webcam driver. Newest vesion can be downloaded on official Toshiba website. If the driver is installed make sure the webcam is set as default input device. You can do this in Windows sound settings.

Is the webcam listed in device manager and does it work if you start the webcam software instead Skype?

So I couldnt get the microphone to work so I bought a new one. I also can not get this to work. I have tried everyway I can think of and it simply will not register any sound and yes the microphone is on and the volume is full.

Can someone please help me fix this? Its driving me crazy!

Answer:Satellite C660-18C - Can't get the microphone to work

Hi belthazora,

Just to make sure we talk about an external microphone that you have connected to microphone jack and not internal one? I ask this because the notebook doesn?t have internal microphone.

Anyway, if you use an external microphone make sure it?s listed in sound devices under recording tab. Can you see it there?

I would also recommend a sound driver update if it doesn?t work. You can download all updates on official Toshiba page: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

If you go to this page there is a link at the top to "post new thread", this will allow you to post your own threads.

Clearly your webcam has not been detected, is there any chance that the wires from the webcam are damaged? was the laptop screen replaced?

To be honest I don?t understand your question. Webcam is on if you use it with some application like Skype or preinstalled Webcam application. When the cam is on small blue light near the cam is ON.

When the application is closed cam will be off.

Please be so nice and explain your problem more detailed.

I have looked in the control panel and hardware device manager but there?s nothing there for a webcam.

I am at a complete loss and would like some help please

>I have looked in the control panel and hardware device manager but there?s nothing there for a webcam.

Hi in some BIOS version there is an additional option to enable the webcam.
Please check the BIOS.

If the BIOS would not provide such option? well, in such case I would assume that your webcam module is faulty.
If the webcam module would be OK, then you should see something in the device manager even if the driver/software would not be installed.

Bit of a weird problem with the webcam on my C660 laptop. It works fine on skype no problems at all and captures pictures fine, but whenever I try and record a video, it makes a beeping noise when I press 'record' then completely freezes, the light near my webcam goes off (so I'm assuming the webcam itself is off?) and refuses to respond. I've waiting for an hour, hoping it would catch up but it doesn't. Eventually it has to be closed using task manager as it will not respond.

Any idea what's going on with it or why it's doing that? I've not added or changed any of the stuff it originally came with, I'm not very tech savvy so no idea how to sort it

Thank you :)

I was recently messing around my USB settings and I've accidentally uninstalled the webcam driver. I tried a driver from the Toshiba support website but it does not install. Within the last year, I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (64-bit) so I think that might have something to do with it. I've also tried running the driver in compatibility mode.

If someone could suggest where I can go next, I would be very grateful!

Trying to get this built-in webcam working. Had the laptop for a few years but never used this function before. I have skype that doesn't seem to detect it. Can't see anything in Device Manager relating to webcam or image or anything, and in program files under Toshiba all it has is 'Wireless LAN Indicator', nothing about a cam or mic, its as if it doesnt exist. After searching around I found I might be needing some certain drivers, and so I downloaded something called TC30295700E (which I believe is what I needed), I installed that and no difference seems to be made. Webcam completely undetected by the laptop even though its built-in...been at this for a few hours now, am I missing something here?

Edit: sorry I should specify, I'm running Windows 7.

Edit 2: Should also add that 'Imaging Devices' is nowhere to be found on the Device Manager.

I have just bought a Satelite C660, however it didn't come with a web cam or microphone, which I now require.

I note the slot above the screen which should house a web cam - is it relatively easy to buy something to fit in there and install it myself (I'm not very technical and don't have a good range of tools)?

Or, is there a reliable add-on camera / mic combination I should get?

The purpose of the camera is mostly Skype video conferencing. Might be of interest to do the Face Recognition thing too, but not absolutely necessary.

Answer:Satellite C660 - How to upgrade with internal webcam?

There are different models on the market with different hardware configuration.
Your notebook was released withtout such cam.

You cannot upgrade this notebook with the internal webcam.

I recommend purchasing an simple USB webcam which can be connected to the USB port if needed.

The webcam works properly when using skype etc. But I have no acces to it from Windows, so I can't change any options or take a pic without using skype.

At the first day all was working great, and now after few months I can't even find an application (don't remember exactly the name, but pretty sure I tried everything and googled any other possibility). No, I'm not so dumb- I didn't deleted the shortcut from the descopt.
Windows can't find any application, nor there is any option in Windows control panel (just an adnotation in Device Manager saying that I have a Chicony USB2.0 built-in camera, it's working and there are drivers installed- installed originaly, I didn't changed anything.)
I tried to reinstall the drivers, no change at all (as it was easy to prefigure).

Then I googled that some C series Toshiba laptops have a Camera Assistant Software, which I didn't remembered to install on the first day (yep, I had bought "blank" laptop and installed Windows and drivers manualy). I thought it can be what I'm looking for, maybe I just deleted it accidentaly.
Didn't work too, when I try to run it it says that the camera is off (it's active) or not working properly (oh, rly?).
Maybe that is because the version of software is not good for my model (which can't get a technical support, there is no model like mine to choose from the list. Funny, isn't it?).

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Webcam software usage on Satellite C660- 1M2

What you need is ?Web camera application? and it can be downloaded from Toshiba download page.

Please visit and choose your notebook model and OS. Your notebook is Satellite C660 with part number PSCJ1E.

You will find ?Webcam driver? there. Install it and try to use preinstalled software. Before you start it be sure Skype is off.

Does it work for you?

I?m not quite sure if I have understood your issue correctly.
The zoom option is available in webcam software but it?s disabled? Right?

if Facebook doesn't recognize your webcam right away when you want to share a video, click the Look for Cameras Again button.

Your Adobe Flash Player settings will pop up.
From the tab, make sure you select the correct type of camera you are using with your computer.

From the tab, you may also need to "allow" Facebook to access your camera and microphone.

If adjusting your settings does not work, try uninstalling Adobe Flash Player from your computer and download the most updated version of Flash-Player.

The webcam should be listed under the point: Imaging Devices
There you should see USB Video device.

Then go to control panel -> software and uninstall the webcam software.
Then clean the OS and registry using the CCleaner.

Of course it?s color cam.
It?s a common webcam? Do you have just black/white webcam picture?
In your case I recommend checking the webcam software options.
Start the Camera Assistant software and in the Properties you could find the option called ?Backlight Compensation?. Check this option.
Furthermore in the ?Image? tab you will find some controls like: brightness, gamma, hue, saturation and sharpness. Play around with these settings.

I have a Satellite C660 series laptop. the web cam was working fine with the old driver installed..
I work away quite a bit and use Skype to speak to my wife while stuck in a hotel room...

I logged in as normal but skype couldn't find the camera, i opened the camera manually using the side browser bar on the desktop and got an error message "Device is locked by other application" I shut all other programs down which may be using it but still got the same message.

Still couldnt get it working so looked in the task manager and process tree to see if anything was running (didnt really know what i was looking for in the processes.)

I then updated and reinstalled the driver - this is the latest version of the driver and changed the appearance of the camera home screen - still got same error message.

Tried numerous times to install driver but nothing... yet the face recognition screen comes on and uses the webcam.... so i know the camera works but it wont open manually or with skype

Please help

Answer:Satellite C660: webcam message - Device is locked by other application

I think you cannot use the cam in connection with the skype because the webcam is blocked by another software? I assume its face recognition.

I recommend doing this:
Uninstall webcam software
Uninstall face recognition
Reboot the unit
Install webcam software
Install face recognition
?and then test it with skype.

Hi everyone,

I`ve just bought a Satellite P745 in a Best Buy store and, after getting it at home (Brazil),
I reinstalled the OS - the original was a Win 7 Home, I installed a Win 7 Pro.

The problem is that with the Win 7 Pro I simply can`t use my webcam and Mic.
The device neither is detected by Devices Manager, so I think it`s more than a missing driver.
I installed all the drivers from the Toshiba website.

My doubt is:

1. as I`ve read that this is a USB camera, is it possible that the device is not being detected because some kind of USB driver conflict? All USB drivers look like OK, but..
2. as a second option, is it possible that there`s some disconnected USB port inside the notebook?
3. After all, is there some ultimate test that I can make that gives me the answer if my USB is broken or if it`s just an installation issue?

Thank you in advance,

Answer:Satellite P745: Win 7 can't use webcam and microphone

> 1. as I`ve read that this is a USB camera, is it possible that the device is not being detected because some kind of USB driver conflict? All USB drivers look like OK, but..
Could be possible?

> 2. as a second option, is it possible that there`s some disconnected USB port inside the notebook?
This is possible too, but in my opinion the issue is related to a missing software?

> 3. After all, is there some ultimate test that I can make that gives me the answer if my USB is broken or if it`s just an installation issue?
Of course, you should test the notebook with Toshiba preinstalled and configured image.
I hope you have created a Toshiba Recovery disk before you have formatted the HDD and installed Win7 Pro. Such recovery disk would help you to set the notebook back to factory settings and to test the webcam and mic?

However, you should also try to install the webcam software and should also test if the internal mic is enabled in control panel -> sound -> recording tab.
Usually if you want to use internal mic, then this should be set as default device.

I sent it back to Toshiba to repair and ofcouse they did it and works ( the MB was replaced?), but now I noticed that my webcam and my microphone are not working. If I try to open the camera it says to "connect a camera" or on skype it asks the same.

I've read into forums to look at the BIOS to enable it but there is not enable/disable button.
I tried to search for a Webcam Driver in Toshiba site but I couldn't find any :c
and The microphone "works normally" but I when I try to call my friends can't hear me.

I hope that someone can help me with this problem, Thanks a lot :)

cam returns only after i restart the computer

now, the mic is not working
i tried the headset on another laptop - everything is perfectly working
currently my laptop is not recognizing the mic, f.e. i can't adjust mic settings, it's just like the port is dead

Hey guys,

I currently own a Satellite C660-28R. When I originally got it, it was pre-loaded with Win7 Home Edition on it. I upgraded to Win8.1 Pro, and subsequently Win10 Pro when that became available.

When I first got the laptop, both the built-in mic and webcam were working. But since updating, I have found it doesn't work. It wasn't too much of a big deal before, but I now have family living abroad and would like to Skype them.

I have gone through all possible options to get this to work;
-I've gone into Device Manager, and checked to see if the drivers were up-to-date (which they were)
-There's no option to roll back the driver to an earlier one.
-I've used several 3rd party applications to try and find a newer driver.
-I've un-installed, and re-installed the drivers.
-I've gone into the BIOS menu on boot-up, and Webcam is enabled.

When I open Skype, the blue LED comes on beside the cam, but no video will show and no sound is picked up.

I have the Toshiba Webcam Application installed, and again, no audio or visual is picked up, although the blue LED is lit.

Please, help me!

Answer:Problems with webcam and microphone on Satellite with Windows 7

The webcam software is designed by Chicony.
It?s notebook model independent and therefore the usage of webcam software which was released for other notebook models should not be a problem.

I recommend checking the driver area for Toshiba Satellite L500 series.
There you can download the drivers for Win 7 32bit and 64bit OS.

Hi guys,
I am having problems with my integraed microphone and also the webcam. Suddenly out of nowhere, it didn't want to work. I have tried to restore the system from a previous point where I knew it worked, I installed several anti-virus programs to clean the computer just in case of viruses and still nothing.

The Sound Recorder was also checked but when I try to record, an error message comes up and says "An audio recording device cannot be found."

I have also tried going to the Control Panel > Sound > Recording, but a message says that can not recognize anything.

Also, the system tels me that I have a problem with the WD SES driver, which seriously, i have no idea what it is but just in case it could be related.

It has been working before without any problem and I have not dowload or do some kind of suspicious action, but now it won't work.

I have checked previous answers related with the topic but none of them work for me.

Thank you so much.

Answer:Satellite U400: internal webcam microphone is very low or does not work

On of mu notebooks is U400 and I can use the webcam?s internal mic without any big troubles.

What OS you are you using? Win XP?
I use the Win XP and the internal mic is enabled using the Skype.

You said that mic is greyed out. Where did you check this?
Did you check this in MSN settings or in webcam software settings?

Start your webcam software and go into the settings.
There choose the Audio tab.
There you can see the volume control. Set it to right

Furthermore you can check the sound settings in control panel -> sound and audio devices.
There you should choose the tab Volume -> Advanced -> choose Proprieties -> Recording (ensure that both options line in and mic are marked)

Then you should see the Line in and Mic volume controls.
The mic should be marked. Press also the advanced button. Here you can reach the advanced mic settings.
The Mic boost option should be marked too.

Furthermore the microphone is located on near the microphone because it?s a part of the webcam.

Regarding the picture quality of webcam you could also try reinstalling the webcam driver from Toshiba website.

Following largely successful replacement of failed original HDD by SATA 500GB unit three problems persist.

Display resolution can't be adjusted away from current 'wide screen' distorted look despite trying all options in Control Panel.

Associated, perhaps, is that even simple games start with warning "game running in software rendering mode" and then run very slowly. Hardware acceleration is on, and I believe latest video card driver is installed.

Lastly, Windows Live Mail (WLM), previously used extensively, won't start. Warning message says "Your calendar contains corrupt data that is forcing WLM to close (0x8E5E0247)"

Hi buddy,

And what happens if you start your notebook with AC adapter only? Is the notebook working properly without battery?

At the moment it?s not easy to say what the reason is because it could be everything: Battery, AC adapter, BIOS, mainboard malfunction, etc.

It would be good to know if everything works with AC adapter only. Furthermore check the Toshiba website if you can find a BIOS update for your C660 model and update it. > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Don?t forget to start the update as Administrator only and disable the Antivirus software.

Hello Toshiba community

I'm a new Toshiba user, I have a new laptop of Toshiba as model of it's Satellite C660 / C660D, I'm using my new laptop for 6 months and I'm kind of having a lot of time on my laptop. Sometimes I keep it open for more than 10 hours.

My problem is like 3-4 months ago at the right-bottom of the screen a warning came out like "There is something wrong with your hard-disc, you should give it to any Toshiba service for the guarantee".
But that's happened because I played on the users, I mean the users option for windows, not something about hardware, just changing the current user's name caused this and it now has weird name when I reversed the name change; it turned to something like TOSH~1 etc.

After several time, I mean like 1 month ago my computer got very slow. I was playing video games with their high resolution but now the laptop lags even I put them at low resolution.. I didn't change any hardware or touched it. But it's frustrating to see that I can't do the things that I used to do anymore.

Another thing is, I'm scared from laptop's heat. Is it normal to have 49-50 degrees? Because when I play games it's around that degree. I live in a hot city.

Some people offered me to use HD Tune to check if I have a bad sector on hdd, I did it. Didn't work either.
I deleted some of my files to get free space on my HDD also, likely 150 gigs at total. I even wiped the empty area in my HDD via CCleaner. I often do the registery-fix w... Read more

Answer:Re: Overheating and lagging issues on Satellite C660/C660D

It is not easy to say what is wrong there. Generally speaking you should think about upgrading RAM to maximum level. With more RAM notebook should have more ?power? and different operations should be done much faster.

To make my notebook better and faster I?ve upgraded RAM to maximum level and also changed HDD to SSD. There is so big difference and now notebook runs as rocket. Think about RAM upgrade.
>Another thing is, I'm scared from laptop's heat. Is it normal to have 49-50 degrees?
From my point of view this temperature is normal and definitely not too high. When you use your notebook place it on the desk and be sure cooling fan and cooling grill are free and not blocked.

Don?t open your notebook. You cannot do anything anyway, except to cancel your valid warranty. RAM upgrade can be done by notebook owner and it will not cancel your warranty.

Hi everyone,

I have upgraded my laptop to windows 8 but now I have to keep the charger connected at all times to use the laptop. The battery can be fully charged and will completely run down within half an hour. I believe this is due to lots of background processes with windows 8 can anyone help me in stepping the battery dying out so quickly. I cannot downgrade back to windows 7 as I have deleted the roll back data.

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite C660 - battery issues after upgrading to Win8

I don?t believe that the battery discharges faster due to some processes running in the background. Such issue could be possible on tablets or smartphones but this isn?t a case for notebook usage.
You can try to modify the Windows 8 power management settings in order to save the battery power.

But in my opinion your battery is nearly end of life.
I don?t know how old the battery is but in my case the battery is a little bit older and it holds the charge just for 5 min.
Therefore I think that replacing the battery would solve the issue

Hi all
I've been having an incredibly frustrating issue with my Latitude E7440. I believe that ever since I've upgraded to Windows 10, I have had issues with my Webcam and my microphone. From reading around the forums, I'm under the impression that it may be a motherboard/driver issue. However, I have on numerous occasions tried to install/reinstall drivers for both in order to fix the problem.
Microsoft Camera App says it can't find my camera. The error code is 0xA00F4244(0xC00DABE0)
The webcam no longer appears in Device Manager, there is no imagine devices and as far as I can tell it is not anywhere in device manager at all. In other words, it's not being detected. I have attempted to manually try and install a new camera via control panel, but there is no option to install a webcam. I understand there are no separate Dell or other drivers for the webcam of the E7440 and they were originally microsoft drivers?

I have tried to uninstall/reinstall Realtek audio manager/realtek HD audio manager drivers numerous times and the microphone is not being detected. This used to work fine, but now it's just not appearing at all. In other words, it is not being recognised. I've tried all the tricks on the forums, in terms of "showing disabled/disconnected devices". My issue is nothing like that.

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

My L500-13v is just over a year old, but from the beginning i'm having a lot of trouble from the built in "USB 2.0 webcam" . Sometimes it works, more often it doesn't, Sometimes i try to open the camera application and it tells me "device is locked by another application" despite not using any other application at the time. When i try it on Msn or some other application i just either get a black screen or " no device connected". I also get a pop up to tell me "This device can perform faster if connected to a hi speed usb 2.0 port" so i wonder if Toshiba have connected the 2.0 camera to a 1.0 port internally, (In this day and age i didn't think usb 1.0 was even used. In device manager, it lists six standard usb host controllers and only two inhanced 2.0 host controlers.). Answer:Satellite L500 - Some issues with internal webcam

Hi buddy,

To be honest I would also suggest reinstalling the webcam driver but maybe you did something wrong?

So in your case I would remove the current version of webcam software and then restart your notebook. Now clean the registry using freeware tool ?CCleaner? which is a really nice tool to clean the system and delete wrong registry keys. After this restart the computer again and install newest webcam software from official Toshiba website.

Normally after this procedure your webcam should work properly again.
If not you should try a recovery installation, maybe something is blocking the webcam driver? Who knows?

Recently I purchased a Logitech HD webcam Pro 9000. I installed it as per instructions but when I first used with Skype (BTW, I only use Skype for internet telephoning), the webcam microphone wasn't immediately functioning. I had to go into Skype and switch from the, I think, laptop microphone setting(if my laptop even has one) to the microphone built into the webcam. The switch seemed to work fine. However, today when we received a phone call on Skype, the person calling could see us but couldn't hear us but we could see and hear him clearly. When I immediately checked the audio settings in Skype, in the drop-down menu for audio settings for selecting the appropriate microphone, there was only one microphone to select but it wasn't my webcam microphone. The microphone in my brand-new Logitech webcam wasn't even listed therefore I couldn't select to turn it on. Basically, how can I make sure that my webcam microphone is always the default microphone whenever I use Skype? My OS is Vista Basic and any information given is greatly appreciated.

Answer:How to keep my webcam microphone as default microphone using Skype?

It's a laptop? Do you leave the Logitech plugged in all the time? If not, Skype may default to the laptop.

Dear Friends

I have just bought a Satellite A200-J01 with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed on it. My problem is when I want to use my webcam (Chicony USB 2.00 built-in) to have video call through the internet with Yahoo messenger and MSN, it suddenly stops working and it shows a message that the webcam is not connected and no webcam was found on your computer.

And then when I sign out from Yahoo messenger, exit from it and run Camera Assistant Software it shows this message "Locked by another application" although there is no other application running.

The problem remains unless I restart the computer. I have read all the topics and posts similar to my case in this site but none of them helped me. I want to know if anyone else has experienced this problem, if this chicony webcam is compatible with yahoo and msn messenger and finally what I can do to fix it.

Answer:Satellite A200-J01: Issues with Chicony webcam using Yahoo messenger and MSN

How about the chicory software and driver update?
Please check if newer software is available and was released. If yes, the remove the old one and after new reboot install the newest version of this chicony software.

It seems that similar issues appear on notebooks from different manufactures which use the Chicony webcam.
Everything looks like the Vista chicony software is not 100% compatible with MSN, yahoo messenger, skype etc? programs.

Sorry if this has been posted before but some searching hasn't
revealed any results

I have just bought a headset with microphone for use with skype.
I also have a usb webcam with a microphone, but the microphone isn't
as good as the headsets.
When I have the webcam plugged in the headsets microphone doesn't
work, I guess the webcam's takes priority. Fine.
When I remove the webcam (which will be the norm) the headset
microphone doesn't then work. I have to restart the machine before it

I've tried control panel->sounds and audio devices->voice->voice
recording and I can see that there are 2 options when the webcam is
plugged in but only one when not. Nothing I do here seems to help

thanks for any help

Ok, so I wanted to use normal mic, not that build in thing that has the worst sound. I got an Alesis io2 usb recording interface and pluged it in. Tried my newly bought headset with mic and nothing happens. My first question is, has someone tried that solution for separated microphone? Has anybody else worked with Alesis? I tried every possible hole to plug the mic jack and no effect at all. I've selected the io2 mic from the Recording devices in the volume options. Nothing. I tried both, plugging the headset into the laptop and into the Alesis. No result. I want to use my headset mic. IdeaPad has no mic jack. Am I forerever screwed or I should really buy normal laptop? I like Lenovo, but this drives me mad. I really, really need that mic for various work and not work related operations. What do? Help.

Answer:IdeaPad S400 microphone and Alesis usb recording interface

I also tried connecting my guitar but with the same luck. When turing on Guitar Rig the computer starts making this high pitched noice from the build-in mic (I've disabled every possible microphone from the volume recording options). Forgot the say specifics but it's Win 7, 64-bit.

Hi, I have two user accounts used by my wife and myself and Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) works fine on both user accounts. Very occasionally our daughters visit and use our pc. They use the Guest account. I just happened to log into the Guest account and got a pop up message saying that Microsoft Security Client User Interface has stopped working. When I closed the message I noticed that the MSE icon was missing from the Notification Area. When I tried to open MSE from the Start Menu I just got the pop up message again and MSE would not open.

I would add that I have no other anti-virus software running on my pc apart from MSE.

I would appreciate any help that anyone could give me

I have a Satellite M305d-s4830.
My PC's operating system is Vista 64bit.

Cam and mic were working fine until one day the camera assistant software started showing a messagebox saying that: "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart the camera or computer."

Since then I tried everything that comes to my mind, but I think neither the cam nor the mic appear in the device manager. I also have the recovery disk for Toshiba.

What am I supposed to do?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite M305D-S4830 - Webcam driver open fail - Now webcam & mic does not work

> Since then I tried everything that comes to my mind, but I think neither the cam nor the mic appear in the device manager
Hmm? you mean the cam is not listed in device manager?
Neither an unknown device nor near a yellow exclamation mark?

Sounds like hardware issue? but try to recover the notebook using recovery disk.
If this will not help then it means that there must be something wrong with the cam?

I read in the net that some people had a similar issue.
The webcam worked when opened the laptop lid only halfway.
But webcam disappeared when the lid has been moved up.
Possibly there was an loose contact between the cable and cam?
In such case the ASP technician should check the notebook?.

my laptop specifcation here : ( [A300 - 1G5|] ) for any needed details ..

The problem simply is, the webcam stopped working for some reason, an error messeage says "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer".

I noticed that whenever I put the computer in sleep mode I was getting on the icon tray a notification says "USB device unrecognized"... I wasnt aware what it was - thought it becasue of the USB mouse being plugged... but I think its related to the camera...

software is installed but camera is not working and cant enable it .. I did download the latest driver from toshiba site , but still not working ...

Currently my laptop runs Vista HP SP2 32-bit, Windows defender enabled, Windows Firewall Enabled, Windows UAC enabled, Kaspersky Ani-Virus 2009 Enabled. I only use Windows Live Messenger (which up to date I think , version : 14.0.8089.726) which i used camera with, I quite using face recognition long time ago and rarely use the webcam ... I didnt install or update any drivers and used to have the laptop running perfectly..

So what happened now ?!

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5: webcam stopped working - Webcam driver open fail

I have had a similar error message and could solve this by disabling the webcam software from startup.
In msconfig -> Start Up tab I have unchecked the Chicony webcam software.
This prevents it from automatic loading.
I don?t use MSN but Skype and the Chicony webcam software is always disabled (not executed) if Skype is running.

Maybe you should try this too.

Furthermore you could try this:
Go to device manager, mark the webcam (imaging devices ? USB video device) and deleted it from the device list.
Then reboot the notebook and wait until the webcam has been recognized again.

Then test it.

Answer:Satellite L300 - WebCam issue: WebCam driver open fail

Have you installed service pack 1 for Vista and latest windows updates?

If not, please update. One thing you could try is to completely remove the drivers, using some registry cleaning tools like ccleaner and reinstall camera drivers.

After looking through this forum, I have tried several 'solutions' but to no avail.

After trying to load the webcam i get the message: "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer"

I have tried updating the Driver software for the camera, and updated the BIOS.

This message still keeps coming up. Is it worth uninstalling the camera completely then attemtping to reinstall it?

Sorry if some of this doesnt make much sense, im not entirely "computer savvy"

I hope somebody can help,

Answer:Satellite A300-1MC: webcam not working - webcam driver open fail

> Is it worth uninstalling the camera completely then attemtping to reinstall it?
Of course!

You should firstly go to device manager and should uninstall the driver.
You should also remove the software from control panel -> Software

After that you should clean the OS and registry using CCleaner. It?s free tool? google?
Then reboot the notebook several times and install the webcam software again.

I need some help regarding the integrated webcam of my Satellite A200.

Everytime I start the laptop I keep receiving a message saying that the webcam drives has failed and I have to restart the computer, but the problem persists.

I have downloaded an updated webcam driver, but nothing.

Can anyone give me an idea of what is going on?

Answer:Satellite A200 - WebCam issue - webcam drives has failed

Are you using the Toshiba preinstalled OS? Is it Vista or Win XP?
As far as I know Vista needs Sp1 and other MS updates in order to handle the 3rd party software and drivers correctly.

I?ve got internal webcam and I?m using in with Vista and Win XP.
I have removed the webcam software from startup in msconfig.
This prevents the webcam from automatic startup while windows booting?
You should do this too?

firstly I am not sure if this is a warranty issue, but I always seem to be geting in post the closure of the offices at the moment.

The new laptop seems to occasionally play up and suggest the USB device not recognised.
On top of this the webcamera is not listed in the hardware settings.

I have tried re-installing the webcam drivers, but although they install ok the computer cannot actually find the webcam, i.e. its not listed in system devices, and forcing Vista to look for the camera does not result in any luck. (the microphone adjacent to the webcam works fine).
Every time I start the computer it now tells me I need to restart the webcam or the computer.

I am running Vista 32 bit, the 250D being a 1.9Athlon core duo with 2GB ram and definetly comes packaged with a webcam (I do seem to recall the little blue light coming on early during setup but never again since).

Is it worth doing a hard re-install, although Windows is normally pretty good at picking up new hardware surely??
I have had a look at the other webcam issues but the drivers are no good as I cannot actually make the webcam do anything.
I have been onto the Warranty page but trying to enter the Serial no. it says it doesn't exist.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Jason

Answer:Satellite L350D - Webcam doesn't work - webcam must be restarted

* Download the updated Chicony Webcam driver from the Toshiba website drivers section. If you cannot find an updated driver, try a newer driver from another Toshiba Model.
* Install Vista Service Pack 1, or Vista Hotfix KB934374: (KB934374 is included in SP1)
* Update your Messenger software (MSN/Yahoo Messenger, etc..)
* If you have another program that can use the webcam (Skype for example), make sure they are completely closed, and not sitting in the System Tray.
* Try closing the Camera Assistant Bar on the left of the Desktop.
* To stop the Camera Assistant software from running on startup, run Regedit and delete "Camera Assistant Software" from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run \

Most webcams come without a microphone. You can pick one up for a tenner or less - just ensure that resolution is 640x480 minimum, as this is the best all round compromise.

Only thing it allows me to do is to change to Face Tracking.I called Dell Suport Center and for about 2 hours I ran diagnostics and tried possible solutions with the tech assistant but he wasnt very helpfull at all. All diagnostics came back with positive/OK/passed results and they offered me a paid support to fix the problem. Not exactly a good solution, is it?It was clear though MS updates messed up with the webcam driver - I checked myself at Devices/Imaging there was an update for the driver done exactly when MS updates were done.
