Preferred Solution: Can I change WLAN card on Satellite C660/C660D?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can I change WLAN card on Satellite C660/C660D?

You can exchange the card but question is which one do you want to use.
The same one if original card is defective or you want to upgrade it?

I have a satellite C660/C660D laptop and, having been nagged for months by windows pop-ups which said that my machine is suitable and eligible for an upgrade to windows 10, I finally gave in and clicked to receive the upgrade to windows 10.

(The machine came with windows 7 and had worked fine for me)

After the "upgrade" to windows 10 things like email and internet searches worked fine and so (apart from having to find my way around the screen anew) I was happy. Just recently though I tried to use interactive graphs on some of the websites I use and, instead of the graphs that I usually see, I got a rectangle with a chequered pattern and nothing else. The next problem was with my disc player, which was not even recognised.
A friend who is more IT savvy than me suggested that I should check that I still had Javascript (needed for the interactive stuff so he said). I found that Java was missing completely and so downloaded it again; after this the interactive graphs worked for a day. The next morning the interactive stuff had disappeared and Java was once again missing from the listed programmes.
My friend suggested that I have a disc in the player and then start the machine; this worked and I got my sound back - - - but no picture. My friend suggested I update Adobe Flash, which I tried resulting in a string of links each of which suggested that Adobe Flash has serious security issues.

The next problem is that Youtube and other video sources will n... Read more

I recently got the Toshiba satellite c660/c660D laptop for my 21st birthday in July. It says there is an integrated web camera but I can't see it or find it. Also when I try to use the video call on Skype it says there isn't any web camera connected.

I was just wondering how can I get the web camera working? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hello admin,

I would like to know if my Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D supports 3D video. I played one of the sample video on YouTube and use one of the simple 3D glasses (which I received free when went to cinema watch 3d movie) but that seem to be not working, or could it be my laptop which doesn?t support 3D.

Please explain in details. Many thanks

Answer:Does Satellite C660/C660D support 3D videos?

There is nothing to explain ?in details?. I don?t know which Satellite do you have exactly but it is not known to me that any of Satellite C660/C660D has 3D capability.

Which model do you have exactly?

There is no option to disable it on this laptop, I have searched for the answer online but nothing, there seems to be no way to do it on this model of laptop. I tried downloading the new touchpad driver from this site but had absolutely no effect and gave me no more options to disable it, it changed nothing. Completely stuck now and its driving me crazy!

The mouse also clicks on its own randomly even when Im not touching it, always seems to get bad when im gaming.

I still want to use the touchpad to move the pointer around, just don't want to use it to click.

Answer:How do i disable tap-to-click on Satellite C660/C660D?

On my Satellite S50-B is installed ELAN software and tapping option can also not be disabled.

Explanation: one finger tapping always performs Point/Click/Select function, which is equivalent to clicking the left mouse button.

It is really strange that this option doesn't exist.

Anyway, if you don't need touchpad in general you can enable/disable it using Fx button (don't know exactly which one on this notebook model).

On the manual stayes that I can upgrade my dedicated video ram till 4Gb but I do not find this option in Advanced Option, neither in Bios, I have a Satellite C660/C660D.

By the way, my CPU is supporting 16 Gb and my motherboard also, Why can't I set on it 16?, because in the manual it is said only 8!

Answer:Video RAM upgrade on Satellite C660/C660D

I don't know which model do you have exactly but video Ram cannot be upgraded ?directly?. All you can do is to upgrade RAM. With more RAM more memory will be used for graphic operations.

My Mum bought a Tosh Sat C660/C660D about 5 months ago. From day one,it has been slower than a snail with a cold.

When you click on the start button, it can take a good 10 - 20 seconds for the menu to pop up. When you select say MS Word, that can take 30 - 40 seconds to load up. Even opening IE can take a good 30 second, and then theres the time for the website to open on top of this.

System monitor shows (CPU between 3% & 7%), (Physical memory (84% Used) : This is when system is at rest, not doing anything, no programs running.

Laptop has Celeron 1.5ghz, 1gb RAM and Windows 7 (64bit). I know its not like the BEST laptop out there, but I think is stud react a little quicker than it is doing.

Dont have a lot installed, mainly MS office. No games or graphic programs.

* Done the Toshiba, build in system recovery. (Several times)
* Reg Clean, System Clean, Defrag
* Updated BIOS & Chip Set

Any Ideas????????

Answer:Super slow Satellite C660/C660D

>System monitor shows (CPU between 3% & 7%), (Physical memory (84% Used)

In my opinion you should upgrade the RAM.
84% is already used by system therefore it takes much longer to start other application.
Your notebook use 1GB RAM running Win7 64bit?dude? I don?t not wonder that your notebook is running slow.

I recommend updating the RAM to 2GB or better 3GB or 4GB RAM

Dear reader,

I am struggling for days now with my Satellite C660/C660D 1FH (SN: 2C092277K).
I did a clean install of a legit Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) and installed the drivers in the correct way as maild to me by the Toshiba customer support.

But when I install the ATI videocard drivers it says "installing" but after that nothing is installed.
My laptop is still using the standard VGA adapter and my maximum resolution is 1024x768.

I called tech support several times but all they tell me is "install in the right order".

I did a clean install 3 times (4 in total) and followed their guide, but nothing. Is there anyone who can help me out on this matter as I am getting a little bit frustrated *lol*

Yours sincerely,

Hello Toshiba community

I'm a new Toshiba user, I have a new laptop of Toshiba as model of it's Satellite C660 / C660D, I'm using my new laptop for 6 months and I'm kind of having a lot of time on my laptop. Sometimes I keep it open for more than 10 hours.

My problem is like 3-4 months ago at the right-bottom of the screen a warning came out like "There is something wrong with your hard-disc, you should give it to any Toshiba service for the guarantee".
But that's happened because I played on the users, I mean the users option for windows, not something about hardware, just changing the current user's name caused this and it now has weird name when I reversed the name change; it turned to something like TOSH~1 etc.

After several time, I mean like 1 month ago my computer got very slow. I was playing video games with their high resolution but now the laptop lags even I put them at low resolution.. I didn't change any hardware or touched it. But it's frustrating to see that I can't do the things that I used to do anymore.

Another thing is, I'm scared from laptop's heat. Is it normal to have 49-50 degrees? Because when I play games it's around that degree. I live in a hot city.

Some people offered me to use HD Tune to check if I have a bad sector on hdd, I did it. Didn't work either.
I deleted some of my files to get free space on my HDD also, likely 150 gigs at total. I even wiped the empty area in my HDD via CCleaner. I often do the registery-fix w... Read more

Answer:Re: Overheating and lagging issues on Satellite C660/C660D

It is not easy to say what is wrong there. Generally speaking you should think about upgrading RAM to maximum level. With more RAM notebook should have more ?power? and different operations should be done much faster.

To make my notebook better and faster I?ve upgraded RAM to maximum level and also changed HDD to SSD. There is so big difference and now notebook runs as rocket. Think about RAM upgrade.
>Another thing is, I'm scared from laptop's heat. Is it normal to have 49-50 degrees?
From my point of view this temperature is normal and definitely not too high. When you use your notebook place it on the desk and be sure cooling fan and cooling grill are free and not blocked.

Don?t open your notebook. You cannot do anything anyway, except to cancel your valid warranty. RAM upgrade can be done by notebook owner and it will not cancel your warranty.

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - shift key causes the screen to go black

> I am disappointed to see the shift key (left) as well as the CTRL key causing the screen to go black intermittently when typing my blog...

What does this means exactly? Pressing SHIFT and CTRL button disable the display and you are not able to see anything on the monitor?
Is this right?

Did you check if this happens using an external USB keyboard too?
If not, I would assume that your keyboard malfunctions and needs to be replaced.

A friend of mine has had a issue with my keyboard. The cursor jumped around and some characters were displayed twice? this could be solved by BIOS update?I?m not sure if your notebook uses the latest BIOS but you could check this too.

Could someone tell me what I need to buy to be able to use my dial up connection (there doesn't seem to be a built in modem).

I would also like to be able to use the wifi internet at MacD's what do I have to do to be able to do this ?

Thanks for any help ;-)

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - Dial Up Modem and Wi-Fi Question

Hi LaVidalerie,

To setup an dial up internet connection you need an external modem like [THIS|] one. You can connect it to your computer via USB port and then you can plug in the phone cable.

Regarding the WLAN connection: I don?t know what you mean with ?MacD?s? but you should ask the local system administrator how to setup the WLAN connection and what settings are required.

Check this!!!

So this morning after trying to power up my Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D I was met with a black screen.

The power lights both work and light up, the fans whirl when I power up but nothing ever comes up on the screen, I was wondering if anyone could help here?

It's less than 3 months old.

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D will not boot up (black screen)

To be honest I really don?t know how to help you.
Remove battery, leave notebook for a while and try to start notebook with AC power supply only. Try to do it several times with and without battery. If nothing helps there must be some hardware problem so I recommend you to contact Toshiba service and ask for help.

Warranty is valid so there is no reason to be worried about it.

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - lost restoring disc

Toshiba notebooks can be restored to ?factory settings? on two ways:
1- Using Toshiba recovery DVD
2- HDD recovery installation as described on -

If none of these ways work for you, you must order new recovery disc on

So is the data on D safe if I use recovery?

Answer:Re: Satellite C660/C660D will using recovery erase data on D partition?

From my knowledge using Recovery Disk would format the whole HDD and all partitions would be created again during this process.
This means that your data on D partition is not safe.

But from my experience the usage of HDD recover would format only the system (C) partition? not quite sure if this applies to all the Toshiba notebooks so possibly you should test this first time? in such case would recommend backup the data in case D partition would be erased.

I was just wondering if the web camera on the Satellite C660/C660D is colour or black and white?

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - Webcam colour or black and white?

Of course it?s color cam.
It?s a common webcam? Do you have just black/white webcam picture?
In your case I recommend checking the webcam software options.
Start the Camera Assistant software and in the Properties you could find the option called ?Backlight Compensation?. Check this option.
Furthermore in the ?Image? tab you will find some controls like: brightness, gamma, hue, saturation and sharpness. Play around with these settings.

is there anyway of finding out which WLAN cards are compatible in my daughters Toshiba C660D-181 laptop?

The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, all drivers/bios are current.

I've tried...

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 - detects, installs, wifi reports 'no connections are available' - FN & F8 doesn't do anything

Intel Wifi Link 5100 - detects, installs, wifi reports 'no connections are available' - FN & F8 allows me to turn wifi on/off but still can't see any connections

Atheros AR5BHB92 - detects, installs, wifi reports 'no connections are available' - FN & F8 doesn't do anything

All the above cards work in other laptops we have in the house, Acer Aspire 5741Z (Intel 6230, Intel 5100 and Atheros all fully work and detect wifi), Toshiba L655 (Intel 6230 (bluetooth doesn't work), Intel 5100 and Atheros all work and detect wifi), Toshiba L450D (Atheros works and detects wifi).

I thought the problem initially was that the Toshiba C660D-181 is based on an AMD chipset (like the Toshiba L450D) and no Intel WLAN cards would work so I got the Atheros AR5BHB92 cards instead. The Atheros installed and worked straight away in the Toshiba L450D but it won't work in the newer Toshiba C660D-181.

Basically I'm looking for a card that works on 5GHz. The card that came installed in the laptop is a Realtek RTL8188CE is only 2.4GHz and we have a lot of wireless activity were I live, the 5GHz range is clean and I get amazing speeds us... Read more

Answer:Compatible WLAN cards for Satellite C660D-181

> is there anyway of finding out which WLAN cards are compatible in my daughters Toshiba C660D-181 laptop?

No, I did not find any details?
I think the compatibility depends on different things like BIOS or motherboard and this if always different. Any Toshiba or an notebook from another manufacturer supports different BIOS and different motherboard (chip)

But in most cases you can get all compatible parts from an Toshiba service partner... so in all cases where you are unsure, i recommend asking an service for a comaptible part

I'm trying to fix this laptop for a girl I know, I've built machines and fixed many before and this is my first time needing help but I am stumped.

Basically she told me her hard drive had stopped working, this was verified by a third party. I told her what hard drive to buy, she got it and I installed it.

I initially tried to install windows 7 from a USB, it was recognised in the but I was getting a failure.

I assumed something was up with the USB so tried to install from CD which is also failing:

[ CD/DVD&nbsp;&nbsp; TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633C] is failed<br><br>The hard drive is recognised.

I have tried changing the SATA controller mode to compatibility, which is the only other option from AHCI

Somewhere it pops up Media Test failure, check cable but very quickly so I barely can read it, but CD, hard drive and USB's are all recognised.

Any thoughts? I've had this laptop for a couple of weeks now, she is getting understandably impatient, please help :/

Hi all, I have the same problem,

i have tried with several HDDs and the same thing, always BSOD before login in window, just once i could stay for some time in windows.
So i decided to install a win XP pro edition, a clean installation, not a recovery system, and it worked fine, i started to install all drivers from the support cd and when i arriver to wireless driver i got agais BSOD, so i tried to reboot switching off the wireless and it works perfect.

So, try to switch off your wireless card and tell here what happens.
Now, a friend of mine gave me his old satellite A50, because he got a new one, and his screen is broken, so i could try to change the wireless card,

Could someone help me how to get to end of the black and white wires that are in the board of the ipw2200??

Thanks for all.

Answer:Satellite A50 - BSOD - how to change Wlan card

I have solved my problem, i think so.

Just problem with driver.
I upgrade the driver version from the toshiba website with the WLAN switched off.
This is because i can login in windows and work perfectly with this. I dont know if your problem is exactly the same.

After i update the driver i switched on the WLAN and i haven't seen the BSOD again, at least in the last five minutes, lol.

I hope this can be helpful for others and sorry for my awful english, bye.

Hi !

(sorry for my bad english but this is not my first language)

I see the wifi goes on but after 2 seconds, i've a BSOD..

So i search for drivers for my network card (Realtek RTL8188CE) and it doesnt work..
I search a lot and i found this forum. I find lot of problem of "My fn+(..) doesnt work" and you reply "Try to install VAP". I download this VAP for my computer and just after extract files, i've this message : "Please reboot your computer."
I reboot and it doesnt work again.. So i try to uninstall VAP but i cant found it on the pannel.

(I see now the fn+F9 (to de/activate the touchpad) doesnt work.)

I've TOSHIBA Hotkey Utility ver.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660 - BSOD enabling WLan by FN + F8

Your message is very confusing?
First of all I don?t think that missing WLan driver would cause an BSOD.

From my point of view you?ve got a lot problems with the system? I?m not quite sure if and reinstallation of VAP would solve all your issues and I doubt that this would solce your BSOD problem.

Therefore I would recommend using the recovery disk in order to set the notebook back to factory settings. If the BSOD would still appear after notebook has been recovered, then I would assume that an hardware issue (probably faulty WLan module) cause this BSOD

Hi. My name is Alice.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660-2C4 Notebook and I use Windows 7 - 32 bits.
I'm having a bit of a problem when installing the LAN and Wireless drivers. I choose the right drivers but after installing them nothing happens. It stills shows an exclamation sign on the Network Controller and the PCI Simple Communications Controller (which I believe it's the Wireless network).

Please advice. Should I install a different Windows?

TOSHIBA Bulletin Board
Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility
Intel Management Engine Interface
Intel Display Driver
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
Realtek Audio Driver

How do you know this? Have you checked WLAN entry in device manager?

Generally speaking something like this cannot happen. Original recovery image contains all necessary drivers and every hardware component must be installed properly. With other words it must be the same situation as on first day after unboxing your brand new notebook.

Hi All,

First time poster here.

Have had my Toshiba C660 PSC0LE-00500JEN now for the best part of 18 months, and now looking to extend its capabilities.

I dont really have a LAN at home, but have a WLAN, so am looking to implement "Wake on Wireless Lan".
I have the "Realtek PCIe FE - RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n adapter, and when I viewed the settings of it, the box to allow it to "allow this device to wake the computer from sleep" seems to have been greyed out.

I am looking to see if this adapter will allow the laptop to wake from sleep, or if it can only be done on the LAN cable...

Answer:Satellite C660 PSC0LE - Can i enable the "Wake on WLan" option?

I think this is not possible.
As far as I know in BIOS the ?Wake Up on WLan? is not supported and the Wlan works only if the system has been booted up.

Hi everyone,

I've recentlly bought a new WLAN card Intel 5300 (533AN_MMW) for my Satellite A200-1CG (PSAE3E...). I've installed a new card without any problem, downloaded and installed new (Win7) drivers too.

hi, im new to this laptop. its op sys is kaput and needs recovery. the hard drive recovery starts as normal, but in a foreign language - something like russian or whatever (it has triangles in it!).

on the drop-down menu is loads of alternative languages, but once again they make no sense - can any1 with a c660-120 tell me how many down the list is english uk please ?

i have checked languages in bios & its set to english, not sure what to do until i can get the right language. any1 help ?

thanks, paul aka lancealittle

Answer:Satellite C660-120 - How to change the language?

Hi lancealittle,

You can?t change the language of Toshiba recovery disk. The menu you see to change the language is just the keyboard input language menu but has nothing to do with the language of operating system itself.

So if you want another language of OS you have buy a new Windows 7 version in Russian language or what you want. The language of preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba can?t be changed!!!

Very annoying!!

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-167: Anyone know how to change keyboard sensitivity?

I think this issue could be solved by BIOS update.
Please take a look on Toshiba European driver page and download the latest BIOS.

I read here in the forum about the similar issue with another notebook series and BIOS update did the job.

Good luck

Well, this is not possible if you don?t have Windows 7 Enterprise or Ultimate. You can?t change the language of lower Windows versions. In such cases you have to purchase Windows 7 Home Premium in another language for example and reinstall it.

You can?t change the language on Windows 7 Professional, this is only possible on Windows 7 Enterprise (volume license) and Windows 7 Ultimate.

So if you want another language, buy Windows 7 Ultimate or be happy with current language of Windows 7 Professional. ;)

My dxdiag screen says i have almost 1700 mb of video memory, but when i try to use that memory on games these games can only use 256 mb...

I have tried to change settings in the BIOS but there is no such setting, dont know what else could cause this problem?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-21D - How to change shared graphics memory value?

This might be confusing but this is not a problem.
The shared memory is controlled by graphic card driver and the driver assigns the part of the main memory to graphic card memory ONLY if its required by a running application.

The Dxdiag shows you how many RAM could be shared and the memory value in the game shows you the shared memory which is used and located by the game right now.

Hi, I've just bought a Chromecast (streaming video player) and that doesn't work properly. I want to change my router to a 802.11 ac but the WLAN card on my G500 is really slow and that router would be useless. I've checked and the high end Lenovo computers have faster, dual band WLAN cards. I want to change mine, so my question is: which is the best WLAN card that would fit my G500 notebook and how can I procure it? Thanks!

Answer:Change my wlan card on G500

hi sneaguv,
Welcome to the Forums.
From page 29 of the HMM, the G500 supports only the following cards Isee page :

Intel 11gn (1x1)
Intel 11gn+BT combo card

If you're looking to change the router to 802.11ac then perhaps you may want to consider getting 802.11ac USB wireless adapter like this item) for best results.

Is there a special way to open the wireless card slot on a Satellite L30 or do i just have to use a USB wireless adapter..... because the slot is there but i cant open it and the USB one is annoying.

thanks for the help....

Answer:Satellite L30 - How to open the Wireless card slot to upgrade the Wlan card

there is no special way. Just 2 screws..
So, if you have a mini-pci wlan card, then you can open the cover, insert it and use it. But be aware from loosen more screws than needed. :)

And if you?re not able to open it, then you will have to use your annoying usb-adapter. ;)

I have purchased a program that needs a video card with openGL driver - how can i find out if my laptop has this? If it hasn't does anyone know if I can get one and if so where from?

Also how can I update the driver on my laptop (if I need to as I think they get automatic updates)?

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Satellite C660-1LD and Video card OpenGL

OpenGL is an standard specification and interface for applications that produce 2D and 3D computer graphics. OpenGL is open source.
There is also another standard called DirectX. This is from Microsoft and most graphic drivers supports and contains the DirectX instead of OpenGL.

How to get the OpenGL?
Well, the OpenGL needs to be part of the graphic card driver? so you have to find an driver which already include the OpenGL as mentioned here:

The Satellite C660-1LD seems to be equipped with an Intel HM55 HD graphic card.
Therefore I recommend checking the Intel page for such drivers.

Answer:Satellite C660-1TN. Win XP Pro SP3. Driver of video card GF 315M

Your corporate standards are pretty old. It should be time for corporate update to new standards. ;)

Anyway, newest notebook models are not supported for old operating systems and newest notebook models are designed for newest operating system. Newest notebook models have newest hardware also designed for newest OS.

Problem is not Toshiba or WXP support. As far as I know even Microsoft doesn?t support WXP anymore.

Check if NVIDIA supports WXP for GeForce 315M.

Answer:BSOD after change The WLAN Card to AW-CE123H in Win10

I assume you had another WLAN card installed before.
Did you remove Drivers for the old card before you put the new Card in? If not, you will have to.
Proceed as this:
With the new card still installed, go to Device Manager and Delete current Drivers for WLAN+BT. Ckeck the Box "Delete Driver".
Go to Programm and Features, uninstall all Software for WLNA+BT.
Shut down
Remove new card
Put old Card again in System
Remove all Drivers as above for the old Wlan+BT.
Shut Down.
Remove old WLAN and put new in.
Now, it will Best to Reset your BIOS.
In my Laptop, I remove Batterie, Back-up Cell, memory modules and wait some time (like 5 minutes) before putt all back again.
Some Laptops it will reset BIOS by pressing power button for 1 minute.
When you boot again, do not install any Drivers, see if Windows will install automatically Drivers . You may want to force Windows to search on-line for the Drivers.
If Windows does not find Drivers for your Card, then try to install Drivers for 8.1.
If it still does not work, you are out of luck and probably Best option is to go to W10-1511.
Seems that with W10-1607 (AU), a lot of people are having a lot of problems with Drivers, specially Wi-Fi.

As far as I know the notebook supports an miniPCI Wlan slot.
So in such case you should be able to use a miniPCI WLan card which supports the 802.11b Wlan standard.

For example the Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card (2,4GHz, 802.11b) PA3212U-3MPC should be compatible!

Of course it should be possible to use a PCMCIA WLan card.
I don?t use such cards but I found some in the net.

The other option could be a USB WLan stick. The WLan performance shoudl be the same and it's very easy to use and connect it

Can I replace my Wi-Fi card and how?

Answer:How to exchange WLAN card on Satellite Pro M10?

Usually WLAN card is placed under small cover placed at the bottom side of the notebook or under the keyboard. On Satellite Pro M10 it must be placed under the keyboard.

Keyboard is on most notebook models fixed with three small screws but to see them you must remove plastic part placed between keyboard and display. It must be removed very gently. If you have no experience I really do not know if you should do this alone. If you do not do this on the right way you can damage this plastic cover.

If you will try to do these alone be very gently. After removing screws, remove the keyboard and check where the WLAN card is placed. When you find the card disconnect the two wireless LAN antenna cables (black and white) from the wireless LAN board.
At least open the left and right latches holding the wireless LAN board and remove it.

I hope this short description will help you.

Answer:Satellite Pro A40: Need minPCI WLan card

One question; Do you have a Wlan switch at the notebooks side?
If not then you will be not able to upgrade this notebook with the minPCI WLan card because you would be not able to enable the Wlan card.

I have checked the internet for some details and it looks the Wi-Fi is Not Available and in my opinion not upgradeable too.

I think it?s a better idea to use an external USB Wlan stick?

I have got a Satellite P10-304 this model doesn't seem to have a wireless car fitted. Can you tell me what the correct card for this model is, if I could fit it myself and where I could buy one from?

Regards Dave

Answer:Want to install WLAN card into my Satellite P10-304

If your Satellite P10 has PSP10E number you can use follow WLAN cards:
PA3212U-4MPC (Agere 802.11b)
PA3273U-2MPC (Atheros 802.11ab)
PA3300U-1MPC (Atheros 802.11g)
PA3298U-1MPC (Atheros 802.11a/g)

WLAN card installation is very simply. The WLAN card slot is placed under WLAN card cover (bottom side) and placed between ODD and modem cover.

If you do this alone please do it gently and be sure the WLAN antenna cable is connected correctly. If you need more assistance please write again.

Can any one tell me which one would suit this machine.

Answer:Satellite P10-304 - What mini pci WLan card can I add?

Do you see Black and White antennas near the Mini PCI Slot?

If not, then you cannot install a Wifi Card. It wont get any reception. You would need to get a USB Wifi Device instead.

If you have antenna's, the Intel 802.11bg card (2200BG) should work.

Its a good idea to buy the card from Toshiba (via an ASP) since the Wifi card may be modified to work properly in the P10.
If you buy a generic MiniPCI Wifi card, the Wifi switch may not function properly.

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

The wifi card died in my toshiba satellite earlier this week, its out of warranty and the toshiba shop wants $200 to replace it with a standard 2.4ghz card.

I have been looking at upgrading it to a 5ghz capable card anyway.
I have found a card which looks good.
I am wondering if my laptop will support it?

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L500-o1u012 and the old card was a Realtek RTL8191SE Wirelss LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC half size mini pcie card.

Where does the wireless card seat in a Satellite 2450-101 ?
And where can I purchase the card ?
Are other cards compatible with the 2450-101 ?

Answer:Satellite 2450-101 Where WLan card is located

I didn?t find exactly information regarding this oldie but I found some nice details about Sat 2455.
It?s very similar to European Sat 2450-xxx but the Sat 2455 is a US model.

The compatible Wlan cards are:
PA3212U-3MPCR Wireless LAN Card Kit 802.11b (Agere)
PA3273U-1MPC Wireless LAN Card Kit 802.11a/b (Atheros)

I think that the miniPCI slot for Wlan card is hidden somewhere under the keyboard.
So in order to get access to this slot the keyboard must be removed firstly.
Usually it?s secured with 2 screws which are hidden under the think plastic cover.

PS: the miniPCI WLan card has to be connected to the WLan antenna.
There are two wires (black and white). Normally a white cable goes to the MAIN and a black to the AUX

Answer:Satellite L300 - upgrade of WLan card to 802.11 N

Yes. 802.11 N standard needs three wires Wlan antenna.
Possibly the L300 was equipped only with two wires antenna which is ok if you use Wlan cards which support 802.11 A, B or G standard.

So possibly you could not use the 802.11 N miniPCI WLan card due to not available tree wires antenna.

I tried the same procedure using the wireless driver download on the the Win7 partition using a) the XP driver b) the Vista driver & c) the Vista driver in compatibility mode. Nothing has worked and there isn't even a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager, so the wireless card hasn't been recognised at all.

Same problem with Ubuntu Linux.

In XP it is recognised as 'INPROCOMM IPN2220 Wireless Lan Card'.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite Pro L10 - WLAN card is not detected under Win7

The entry in device manager is right and so must be shown in WXP.
This old notebook model is not supported for Win7 and on Toshiba WLAN download section I cannot find driver for Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 WLAN card.
Googling around I saw that many people have the same problem on different old notebook models.

Have you tried to find driver Googling around?

I have a Satellite 110CT notebook (110CT/810 PA1224 YX-EN) which I am trying to get a wireless LAN card to work with in order to connect to my BT home hub. I have tried a modern wireless card bus adapter (GWK150 802.11g) but returned it as the notebook would not see it; no lights showing power on the card either (I run Win98 SE). I know both my card bus slots work as my TDK DF2814 modem card will work in either slot.

Is this notebooks card bus interface compatible with modern wireless LAN cards (32 bit card bus type II) or has the standard changed?

Perhaps I was unlucky and managed to buy a faulty card? Any information on what WLAN or LAN cards or types of card interface are compatible with the 110CT would be very welcome.

Thank You, Robert.

Answer:Which WLAN card works in Satellite 110CT?

Hi Robert

It is not easy to get any info about this 10 years old notebook. The fact is that this unit has PCMCIA slot and you can use 2x Type II cards or 1x Type III card. I can just imagine you must set something in BIOS settings.

Check all BIOS settings and see if there you must change some settings. I also think that you should try to use a little bit older wireless cards. Maybe you expect a little bit too much.

in the recent c't Magazin (germany) there was a very good article about replacing the wlan card with a newer 11n(draft) 300Mbit Card. They said it would require your notebook to have the card accesible (it is) and to have two antennas (it has). 11n can or does use three but it does not require all three.

The mag said, some manufactures prohibit this and present you an bios error if you replace the card, some dont and even provide help and instructions.

So my questions are:

1. Does Toshiba allow me to change the card or do you have to use "tricks"?
2. Does Toshiba offer some original parts to upgrade or do you have to use third party parts?

Thanks for any adivce or help!

Answer:Upgrade WLAN card 11g to 11n on Satellite Pro A300-15U possible?

That?s not so easy.

Look on the notebook bottom side. There is a label and there you should see that WLAN card is built in.
If the card has A/G or B/G standard, then the notebook does not support the N standard because for the new N standard you need 3 antenna cables and the old standard has only 2 antennas.

I hope I could help you a little bit.

Can I upgrade my Intel pro 2200BG wireless network adapter on the Satellite M65-S9092 so that it is more compatible with Windows 7? The Intel Pro 2200BG is no longer supported by Intel as it has been discontinued and therefore they have not issued a new driver so that IPv6 works.

Therefore I would like to upgrade my card if possible.

Thanks in adavnce

Answer:Satellite M65-S9092 - Can I upgrade the WLAN card?

I think it should not be a problem to upgrade the WLan card.
As far as I know its an miiPCI WLan card and you would need to use also an WLan card which would support the miniPCI interface.

The WLan card supports two pins for the WLan antenna cable.
Usually you have to connect a white cable to the MAIN and a black to the AUX.

That?s all?

I have Toshiba Satellite A100-847. I would like change WIFI card for new one with "n" standard.
I found some tutorials how to do this, however it was for Toshiba A105, very similar to my one.

I've opened bottom cover where is memory and modem but i couldn't see any PCI ports.
Is it possible to do this?
Is it work via miniPCI or is integrated on motherboard?

Answer:Satellite A100-847 - WLan card replacement

The A100 PSAA9E supports a minPCI WLan card which supports the IEEE 802.11a/g WLan standards.
I?m not 100% sure if it could be possible to upgrade the WLan using a minPCI WLan card 802.11 n due to the two antenna cables.
You should firstly clarify if the antenna is compatible with the new 802.11 *N* WLan standard.

The minPCI WLan card must be hidden under the keyboard. So you would have to remove the keyboard firstly to get access to the WLan card.
The WLan card is also connected to two antenna cables. The cables should be removed carefully using a tweezers. Then spread out stoppers securing the wireless LAN card until the card pops up.

Generally it?s not difficult to replace such WLan card but if you have no experience I wouldn?t recommend doing this.
Such replacement should be done by an technician!
Furthermore you warranty validity could be canceled after such upgrade.

In my opinion you ca use this minPCI WLan card. As far as I know it?s important that the WLan card support the frequent of 2.4GHz and IEEE 802.11b Wireless standard.

Hello everyone, i've been desperately trying to upgrade my WLAN card on my SP6100 laptop, since it was shipped with a wifi-b minipci card, which is not fast enough by today;s standards.

Every piece of official Toshiba documentation mention that the SP6100 has a minipci type 3A slot, so can accommodate both a minipci type 3A and 3B wifi card.
But unfortunately for me, I found out the hard way that it's definitely NOT the case - i've been set back by a fortune in buying costs for an intel minipci type3 wifi card, which DOES NOT fit the laptop at all.

I spent an hour in pointless calls with Toshiba customer support, who I had to convince that PCMCIA is definitely NOT the same as miniPCI, and that the miniPCI cards ARE DEFINITELY replacable by the user. She insisted that it couldnt be changed by the system user, but by toshiba themselves.

Could anyone please please advise me on the type of wifi card that comes built in with the SP6100 laptops? I think it is AGERE branded, as a WLAN minipci card. I know that it definitely IS NOT miniPCI type 3.

Please help! Thank you.
And by the way, every place i have searched so far only appears to sell type3 miniPCI cards,
Are other types of miniPCI cards available for retail customers?

Infinite thanks!!

Answer:Need help with upgrading the minipci WLAN card on Satellite Pro 6100

The wlan card build in into SP6100 is the PA3189U-1MPC. This is a Toshiba branded Agere Orinoco Gold or Silver MiniPCI card with Form Factor Mini PCI Type 3B.
May you found and tried to exchange the bluetooth card?

The system has Windows 7 pre-installed, and has the Windows 7 recovery DVD.
I've searched online and found that some packages also include Windows XP Professional as a downgrade.

This wasn't included in my package I received.

I have managed to get most of the drivers for XP including the graphics and soundcard.
But at present I haven't been able to locate the driver for the Wireless Card.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks ......... Mark

Answer:Satellite Pro L450-13Q (PSLY1E) - XP driver for WLAN card

Hi mate,

I think you should check the Toshiba WLAN portal for WLAN drivers:

Normally there you can find all drivers for the WLAN cards in all Toshiba notebooks so it?s worth a try! ;)
By the way, what WLAN card you have exactly?

I have an A215 with the built-in atheros5007eg network adaptor. I recently upgraded my wireless router to a Linksys 310n and added a Linksys wireless n USB adaptor to my laptop.

Rather than getting better performance, mine deteriorates when I use the adaptor.

Linksys tells me to check with Toshiba as it is possible my memory is not sufficient to upgrade.

Any thopughts on what I can do, or do I need a new computer to go to wireless n?

Answer:Can I upgrade Satellite A215 WLan card to Draft N?

I doubt you could do this because the Draft N needs 3 wires WLan antenna.
Your installed Wlan antenna includes 2 wires and therefore draft N WLan card will not function!

Hello all,

I purchased a Sat L100-179 laptop about 2.5 yrs ago without wireless lan.
So last week I purchased a Inter(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection, this is a internal card!

I installed the card along with the latest drivers and the card was working properly according to device manager
When I tried to use the card after setting the wireless settings I began to have problems.

I then installed the software for the card to help with the problem which was Intel(R) PROSet/Wirless WiFi Software which gave me a little more info to the problem. All settings for wifi are enabled except when I press Fn + F8 I get the following message:

Wireless communication is disabled. Please turn on the wirless switch.

But there is no switch on the side of the laptop just a blank cover cap.
I have run out of ideas to get this working and would really appreciate some help.
My OS is XP home service pack 3.

Answer:Re: Satellite L100-179 Cannot enable new inserted WLan card

I think your Sat L100-179 is not WLan upgradable.
If this notebook has been delivered without the WLan card and if the WLan switch does not exist then you cannot use an internal WLan card!

In such case you have to switch to an external solution like an USB WLan stick for example
