Intel (HD) graphics issue when trying to use "Stellarium" on Satellite C660

Question: Intel (HD) graphics issue when trying to use "Stellarium" on Satellite C660

Stellarium (a free application for astronomie) works w/o any problem on many computers of my astronomie club but impossible to use it on my Toshiba Satellite C660-226. No problem during installation but nothing appends when I launch the program.

I run it in compatibility mode (windows XP Sp2) and Intel HD graphics driver is at level as recommended on Toshiba support center.

If I install a lower level of this driver( VGA std graphic carte at level 6.1.7600.16385) ,Stellarium works but very slowly and some functions (like zoom) are bugging.
Stellarium support center recommands to install a more recent level of intel HD graphics driver but I don't find a more recent level working with P6100 processor on Intel download site.
Can you help me?

Preferred Solution: Intel (HD) graphics issue when trying to use "Stellarium" on Satellite C660

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

sorry for my English level, I'm French

I have an issue without solution with my Satellite C660 (for the moment i hope!) I downloaded the software google sketchup 8, dedicated to the architecture drawing, but it doesnt work, I always have a bug message informing that it is necessary to update de drivers of the graphic card (According to google support it seems that OPENGL functions should be implemented in the drivers of my laptop)

So I have downloaded the last available drivers for the configuration I have ( Intel HD graphics for pentium, windows 7 64 bits) ;

the link ( french website, the one for Intel is not currently available, it is an .exe document)

I have tried to manually update de graphic card driver with the device manager menu (graphics card > update the drivers button> manual file.exe selection ), but at the end there is no update, I only have a very quick message informing that windows has determinated that the drivers are already updated.

Actually there is no changes on the drivers (still the same date of the pilotes 28/07/2010 in the graphics card properties) and sketchup is still out of work

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

In short I'm looking to update the graphics drivers for Intel HD Graphics, the current version is, I've tried multiple times to get them from Intel's own site but I'm either downloading the wrong ones or I simply can't find it. Nor can I find the driver under the Toshiba Support. The device manager is unable to find any updates either.

Model: Satalite C660-220
Part No: PSC0QE 05000CEN

This has been a problem for about a year now, so any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite C660-220 - Can't update Intel graphics driver

The notebook supports the Intel Core i3-370M CPU
According to the Intel ARK page where you could check all the CPU specs, the CPU provides the internal Intel HD graphics. This was the first Intel HD GPU release.

I checked the Intel download page and unfortunately, the Intel page does not provide the Intel HD graphics (for Intel Core CPUs 1st gen) anymore.

But I found an newer version of Intel driver on Toshiba EU driver page:

I could not reply below so here is my question.

As*** I do not know if you work for toshiba but what else am I suppose to do if the driver installed on a new laptop does not allow me to use my software?

The software is ArcGIS and would be widely used.

Seems like it has been 2 years since the driver was updated by Toshiba so what good is that?
I would expect the laptop to work out of the box as the specs met the system requirements for the software.

Will there be an update in the future?

This seems to be a user to user forum? so would not expect to get answers from Toshiba here?

Where is a problem? The Satellite C660-22V supports Intel graphic card.
Visit the Intel page to get the latest graphic card driver.

If you would not be able to install this using the install.exe, go to device manager and install/update the graphic card driver via device manager?
Use the advanced install option to point to the driver folder containing the latest driver files? that?s it?

I am trying to update the driver for the Intel HD graphics on my Satellite C660-22v. The most recent version of the driver on the Toshiba support download is already installed, but Intel have a newer driver which needs to be used.

Unfortunately the driver on the Intel site wont update as it says that it needs Toshiba specific driver needed ie Toshiba has customised the Intel drive.

Anyone know a way around this or is there an updated driver available? Thanks.

It is well known that you cannot use drivers offered by graphic card manufacturers. Not for mobile computers. Display drivers are modified by notebook manufacturers to offer balance between performance and hardware protection.

What you can try is to check if Toshiba offers newer driver for newer notebook models.
Please check on Toshiba download page -
If you can find newer display driver for:
Satellite L775 (PSK6DE)
Satellite R700 (PT314E)
Satellite Pro U630 (PSK01E)

Please post some feedback.

Answer:Satellite C660 - Latest Intel graphic driver is from 2012

Display driver upgrade on mobile machines is pretty problematic. Due to specific design and limited cooling system the temperature must be all the time ?under control?.
New display driver means more performance and more performance means more heat so in worst case GPU can be damaged or your notebook will oft shut down due to critical hardware temperature.

Anyway, I would like to check if newer driver is available on Toshiba support page but you must post full model name of your notebook (C660-xxx).

Have you tried to find or install driver from Intel support page?

After only 2 months I got an HDD alert saying it would fail soon. So under warranty 2 weeks ago Toshiba arranged for an authorized dealer to collect and replace the HDD which they did. Ever since then I cannot use my graphics software. Now, I remember when I first got my laptop I had the same problem and it was to do with my graphics/video card and OpenGL. Toshiba site and my own laptop kept saying that all drivers were up to date. But when I went on Intel site I found that Intel HD Graphics was not up to date. As soon as I updated I was able to use all my graphics programs.

The drivers installed without any problems at all. This time, although I gave a recovery disk to the repair dealer, when my graphics software was not working. I went to Intel site and once again there are more up to date drivers available. However, when I try to install them it says that I now have modified drivers from the laptop manufacturer and I must go to the Toshiba site. Either way, the drivers I need are not on the Toshiba site and I have tried every way possible I think to install the ones I want.

Answer:Satellite C660-1D7 - Installing latest Intel display driver

Hi John,

The problem is that only Toshiba drivers are pretested on your system. Installing other drivers happens on your own risk because they are not tested by Toshiba.

Anyway, just download the drivers on Intel website. If setup.exe file shows you an error message about not compatible drivers install them manually (I know this message from my notebook). Therefore navigate to device manager > right click on graphic card > update driver. Then choose the advanced installation where you can choose the driver and directory yourself. Now you are able to install this driver :)

The Intel driver depends on the Intel CPU.

Bought this laptop for university work, I do a lot of 3D work on the computer and only just realised the integrated graphics card isn't powerful enough to cope. I was hoping to be able to buy a new graphics card and slot it in but I've been told by Toshiba that the graphics card is soldered to the motherboard and so this isn't an option.

Just wondering if anyone else has had success in doing this alternatively? I know there are ways of having a desktop graphics card attached remotely etc, but just to see if anyone knew of a way that would work on this model of laptop.

Answer:Satellite C660-28D - Improving the Graphics

Graphic card upgrade is not supported.
I have no experience with usage of external graphic cards but to be honest I cannot imagine that an external GPU would the best solution.

Such parts are not cheap and in my opinion if you really need an notebook with stronger GPU, then you should purchase a notebook with integrated, strong (ATI or nVidia) GPU.

An external graphic chip makes a notebook less mobility friendly? so why using a notebook (+ external GPU) if you could use an desktop PC in such case with more powerful GPU?

Hello all,

So i'm trying to update my graphics driver on a satellite C660 1LD and I'm getting nowhere fast.

The current driver i have is version
Toshiba website offers version which i'm led to believe is an older version than my current one?

I have tried downloading the newest version from the Intel website however this doesn't work either and i cant actually find what the newest version is from this site. Can anyone offer any advice on how to get this done?

The annoying thing is i went through this process over a year ago to fix a bug on civilization 5. I remember it being a bit of a headache then. The most annoying part is that i cant remember the processes i had to go through to get it done. Doh!

Thanks in advance

Answer:Trying to update graphics driver for Satellite C660-1LD

Generally speaking you should use Toshiba drivers only. Why? Drivers offered on Toshiba support page are tested and adapted to work with notebook?s hardware. Of course, you can use drivers from GPU manufacturers support page but you must know that newer drivers will increase GPU performance. More performance means more heat and also a bit risk for hardware.

Result can be suddenly shut downs or even hardware damage.
Anyway, I hope you are satisfied with GPU performance with your last driver so I don't understand why you want to update current version. Be happy that everything works well with this ?non-supported? driver version.

Anyway, I?m sure that you know that everything you do is on your own risk so you can do with your notebook whatever you want. I found one interesting article that may help you.
Check it out please -

Good luck

The current driver available on the main site is severely out of date, and I now have two programs which crash on startup because of problems with the aticfx32.dll driver library.

This is a known issue with some intel drivers, and has been fixed with the latest ones, but as the laptop uses a custom driver setup, I cannot use the generic drivers.

Could we get an updated driver, or a workaround for the error.

Can post error logs for the two programs if necessary.

I currently have the version of the Intel HD Graphics Driver and want to update to Driver but every time I download, unzip the file and open the file, it will Extract and asks "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer" I click "Yes" and then it just disappears and nothing happens at all. I have waited a long time to see if anything comes up but nothing happens.

Any info on why it isn't updating would be great.

I have also noticed that the same Driver Version on different Toshiba Satellite models has a different file size, I was wondering if I should download and try to install these on my C660 as I presume they would all the the same Driver Update. I just don't know why they would be a different file size.

Answer:New Satellite C660-1F1 windows 64-bit -cant use graphics editing software

Hello John

Have you already got some answer from Toshiba?
What to say my friend? In my opinion the best advice you can get from Corel and Adobe. They have best experience with own product and have probably tested them on different hardware platforms.

Notebook manufacturers offer different notebook models with different hardware configurations. Some of them are cheap and offered with average hardware. The performance is not the best but good enough for ?every day? activities like internet, office, mailing and so on.
On other hand there are notebooks with excellent and powerful hardware. Very often such notebooks cost twice as much as ?cheap low budget products?.

Please don?t understand me wrong but your C notebook is not the best one for usage with such powerful software.
I really don?t know what Toshiba can do about it. I can imagine that you need other graphic driver but graphic driver support for mobile computers is pretty limited and I don?t think you can do much about that.

What you can try is to download and install driver from graphic card manufacturer but you must do this on your own risk.

Sorry friend but I don?t have any other advice for you. I just think you?ve bought wrong notebook for such complex graphic operations. 2 GB RAM? I don?t know.

Good luck.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-21D - How to change shared graphics memory value?

This might be confusing but this is not a problem.
The shared memory is controlled by graphic card driver and the driver assigns the part of the main memory to graphic card memory ONLY if its required by a running application.

The Dxdiag shows you how many RAM could be shared and the memory value in the game shows you the shared memory which is used and located by the game right now.

I trialled Lightroom 5 on my Satellite Pro C660 and it worked fine.

I decided to get it, and that week Lightroom 6 came out, so I bought Lightroom 6.

LR6 gets to its splash screen and then stops and Windows7 closes it.
I contacted Adobe and they went onto my machine and identified the problem as being the graphics card and said I need a driver update.

I have been on the Toshiba site and it says that the latest available driver is, which is the one I currently have (and was last modified in 2012).

I have been on the Intel site and their auto-upgrader says the machine has a customized driver so contact Toshiba.
I have looked around the Intel site and tried to install what look to be plausible drivers, but haven't found one which would install.

My setup includes an LG 22" monitor connected to the laptop with the desktop spread across the two screens (laptop and monitor).

Does anyone know what the driver upgrade I need would be or how I can find out?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660 needs graphics driver upgrade for Adobe Lightroom 6

The graphic card driver from Intel page can be used and you can also download the driver directly from the page.

What CPU does your notebook support?
What Intel GPU (chipset Intel HD graphics ******) does the notebook support?

The Intel download page provides Intel driver as an exe or zip package

You need to download and to unpack the zip package.
Then you will be able to update the driver within the device manager choosing the Advanced installation update procedure.

I am having an issue with the keyboard on my Satellite c660 laptop, part number: PSC1LE.
The best way I can describe it is as a stuttering problem because it comes and go's (fine for a few hours, then not for a short while).

The problem is that for reasons unknown to me I keep encountering a problem where the A, N and Enter keys do not work when pressed. Occasionally pressing the key repeatedly (they aren't jammed) just makes the letter come out, but I can't keep pressing the key five or six times to get one letter. Just to mention, I have not spilled anything on the keyboard.

I have done full anti-virus and spyware scans but have found no issues.
I have this evening done all of the windows updates available to me, however it doesn't seem to have done the trick.

After restarting the device following the updates all worked well for about 15 minutes, until the same three keys stopped working again. On this occasion it lasted only for a couple of minutes, and now I am writing this with the same keyboard.

Note: I am not using the original keyboard. I changed the board due to minor material damage but had it done privately.
However this was done the better part of a year ago and has worked perfectly since being installed, until this new issue occurred in the last few weeks.

If anyone has any further recommendations or suggestions as to what may be the cause or any solutions then please share them.

Answer:Satellite C660 - Keyboard issue

I think you would understand that nobody is able to say why your keyboard malfunctions.
Only if the notebook hardware has been checked/scanned, it would be possible to say what?s wrong here?
But generally speaking there is a good workaround to diagnose the problem.

You could connect the external USB keyboard to the notebook and could check if the same problems with the mentioned buttons will occur.

In case the external USB keyboard would work properly, I think that your internal keyboard is the troublemaker? in such case you would need to replace the keyboard once again.

When my wife got off the plane a baggage handler helped her by pushing her mother in the wheelchair and dragging one of the bags behind him allowing my wife to take care of the rest of the luggage. Unfortunately the laptop that was sitting on top of that bag decided that it didn't like the ride, it jumped off the bag and tried to enter the terminal under its own battery power.

There is no visible damage to the laptop as it was inside the laptop bag and no cracks or anything on the screen. When the laptop turns on, the screen can remain blank, flicker or it will display the log on and desktop but instead of showing white it displays a pinkish purple, only white is affected not off white. Other colours display correctly although they do look as if the display is set to 256 colour or using the wrong driver.

I connected an external monitor to it and that works fine with full colour. If the laptop screen flickers a light tap to the back of it will get it to stay on but the colour isn't corrected. I am thinking that it may be just a loose connection or broken wire between the screen and the motherboard but not sure if the change in colour would be caused by this.

Satellite C660 (PSC1LA-00J001) looks brand new but I don't think it would be worth taking in to get fixed.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

It took me 2 1/2 hours to post this exact same message because somewhere in there is profanity or inappropriate language. :(

Answer:Satellite C660 - screen issue

On this virtual way it is not possible to say for sure what is wrong there. Your notebook must be disassembled and all must be checked. Graphic card seems to be OK so there must be some problem with connectors, cable or with the display itself.
>Satellite C660 (PSC1LA-00J001) looks brand new but I don't think it would be worth taking in to get fixed.
Why not? Even display exchange is not so problematic. Googling around you will find many online stores where you can order new display, if necessary. Even on eBay you can get it for reasonable price.

If you don't have experience with this stuff I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider or some independent IT service and ask for help. Check which options are available and how much you must pay for repair.

Hi all!

I have Toshiba Satellite C660-1GK for about year and a half. After 6 months my hard disk drive died.

First the laptop got really slow and then started the famous clicking sound from the disk.
I've made backup and checked the drive with Hirens tools. Toshiba diag won't even read it, S.M.A.R.T. said that his health is poor (30% or so), bad sectors started popping out.. so I've took the laptop to my ASP.

They replaced the disk and then, 13 months later (a week ago) the same story! Disk health went even lower (was at 11%) and bad sectors started jumping out like maniacs.
Again a trip to ASP.

I've got my laptop today with a new disk. After reading posts on this forum, I'm worried that it's or motherboard/power supply problem or we're just all with bad luck with drives.

I just can't accept that disks randomly die every 4-12 months as an answer. My last disk on HP laptop lasted 4 years! I have about five more months of warranty and I'm really not happy with situation. This laptop is on my work desk, has it's own station with a nice, big fan so it's not overheating - basically I've took it out of house last September.

I'm careful with it! But if this drive dies before end of year, maybe it's time to get a new laptop.
Not Toshiba this time :(

Please, do you have any thoughts, advices..?

My first HDD died after more than 2 years of usage. I bought another one, replaced the old HDD and the new HDD died after 4 month of usage.

Any HDD will die sooner or later because its expendable part? it?s a matter of HDD usage and matter of how you handle the unit.

In my opinion it?s a bad luck? of course its always pity if an HDD start to malfunction but I?m afraid there are no many options to prevent it.
Of course you could switch to an SSD drive which is much stable in use. I did it some month ago? I purchased the 250GB SSD drive and replaced the internal HDD

i have this notebook just about 2 months, so the solution of this problem cant be that my notebook is old and inside is dust..
if am i just surfing on internet, temperature of notebook is about 40-60 degress, but if am i gaming it goes quickly up (65-75)
- maybe after 2 hours gaming temperature goes up and i must quit game.
If temperature is about 75 degress, computer started to be noisy and i think it goes down..

What i have to do?

Answer:Re: Satellite C660-11W - overheating issue

After reading your posting I don?t know what the problem is. The temperature you mentioned in your posting is not on critical level so I think there is no reason for panic.

When you want to play the game, close all useless applications, switch to high performance power plan and be sure notebook is placed properly on the desk. Cooling fans should not be blocked and notebook must be able to ?take a breath?.

Until there is no ?unexpected switch off? there is no reason for panic.

i am having a kind of software glitch on my laptop. when i turned it on, it showed a message with options either to launch startup repair (recommended) or start windows normally. i chose the first option as that seem to be the recommended option and i thought this might repair if there was any damage. however, after the repair process was completed, it showed an error message with steps to install Windows. i am getting this message now everytime i turn my laptop on!

Since i have the software pre-isntalled on my laptop, i do not have the Windows 7 disc with me. this is really strange as i am unsure why this happened.

Although my laptop is covered with the warranty, i am not sure if it covers the software warranty too?

Please can some one advise me on the best way out of this problem.

its really very painful and irritating to deal with this, as its been just 5 months since i bought this laptop.

Answer:Windows 7 issue on my Satellite C660-1F1

> however, after the repair process was completed, it showed an error message with steps to install Windows. i am getting this message now everytime i turn my laptop on!

Looks like something has gone wrong with the installed OS.
Not sure why but it seems that you need to reinstall the windows once again.

> ince i have the software pre-isntalled on my laptop, i do not have the Windows 7 disc with me. this is really strange as i am unsure why this happened.

You did not receive any disks because the notebook supports the HDD recovery and additionally there was/is a option to create a own recover disk.
You could use the Recover disk creator software in order to create such disks?
But not sure if this would be possible now because of the error?

So would recommend starting the HDD recover as described here.

Hi I have just recently been provided a Satellite C660 for my further education, though I do believe in my haste to get it set up how I like to set up my computers I might of turned off the hot-keys now reading about on this forum I have found that to make them work again I will need to allow TOSHIBA Button Support to run at start up, but no matter how hard i try to find it on msconfig it no longer seems to be there, any one have any ideas about where I could find it on the C drive?

Though one of the strangest things I have noticed about this problem is that the volume hot-keys still work perfectly its just the rest of them.

Just to let other people out there know I think I have solved my problem, here is the process I used to fix the hot-key issue.

Start menu - -> write msconfig in the search box on vista or windows 7 (if using XP type it into the run box) --> go to start up --> look for KeNotify Application and select it to run at start up.

There you have it it seemed to fix my issue so I hope it helps you out.

Hey Guys,

I've been having an on and off issue with my touchpad for at least a couple of months now. I've tried doing the function +F9 thing with little effect. I also re-downloaded the synaptics driver which seems to make it work for a little while but then it started working only sporadically.

Currently my touchpad works some of the time, if it fails at first pressing Ctrl Alt Del and then Esc seems to make it work for a little while longer but after that it simply stops working. I'm a student and not having a fully functioning laptop is often a great hindrance so any help would be great.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660 - on and off issue with the Touchpad

My first question is: when did you notice this touchpad issue.

I mean, the Sat Pro C660 is an older notebook and if this issue did not appear from first day of purchase, then something has affected the touchpad functionality in the past.

The question is: is there something wrong with software or maybe touchpad module.
I think this can be answered only settings the notebook back to factory state.
If you recover the notebook using Toshiba recover disk, you will get exactly the same state like at the first day of purchase.

If touchpad would still not work properly, well then there is some hardware problem

Hi there,

I have purchased a Satellite C660-17J and occasionally when I turn it on (holding the power button for 2 or three seconds and then releasing) - it doesn't seem to power on properly eg - fan starts - power light comes on - but not screen. If I hold the power button again it goes off. Then if I try again it will come on but the date and time resets itself to 2008.

Any ideas or will I have to send it back to Amazon as faulty? (could do without doing that!).

Answer:Satellite C660-17J - Power on issue

Hi ebarnyard,

When you connect an external screen, can you see something on it or is it still black as internal screen?

> Then if I try again it will come on but the date and time resets itself to 2008.
Do you mean the time of Windows or BIOS?

Generally speaking I must say this is no normal behavior and in my opinion it?s something wrong with hardware itself. So I would contact an authorized service provider in your country and ask the guys to check your notebook what?s wrong with it because hardware repair is for free due warranty time ;)

Apologies if this is the wrong subforum:

Being the idiot I am, I changed my WIndows Login password and since I use very long passwords, I have no idea what I changed it to. Guessing is out of the question.

So I powered on my laptop while holding the 0 key, which brought me to the Windows Boot Manager screen. I pressed F8 on Windows 7 for advanced options and opted for 'Recovery Mode' as I have used this in the past to install the OS from scratch.

It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.

Any advice on what I can do?

Answer:HDD Recovery Issue on C660 Satellite

>It asks me to select a keyboard layout and then enter my username and password to procede with HDD Recovery. It is this lack of password which is the reason for recovery.
On this step you must enter your Windows login name and login password. Without right password you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation.

There is second option to install recovery image. You can do it now using recovery DVD. Have you created it using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator?

I have IdeaPad Z480 with Windows 7 installed. I had installed all latest drivers from lenovo site. Then I updated Intel Graphics HD driver to latest version: v15. ( from Intel site and then I got problems: the brightness always revert to last brightness level (before updating Intel Graphics driver) when booting. Also, the brightness slider in Control Panel -> Power Options doesn't work anymore. Reinstall Energy Management driver doesn't solve the problem. I suspect there is incompatibility issue in Lenovo Energy Management driver with the new Intel Graphics HD driver.

I have been using a foldable keyboard and a remote keyboard and have been having problems:

1.Characters not showing when typed.
2.Cursor jumping from typing position to another place usually outside the box that I am typing in.
3.Characters repeating while typing.
4.Actions ie Backspace not operating.

These problems do not seem to happen in Gmail and are not happening as I type this.
The problems have occurred so far in Google Calendar,a text doco and login to a site.
The problem did occur with the on board keyboard once so I am wondering if it is a malfunction or a virus.

Any ideas ?.

Good day, fellow Toshiba notebook owners.

I have a little trouble upgrading my BIOS to a "newer" (according to Tempro) version.
I just installed the Tempro application, and it detected that my BIOS needs an upgrade, so I naturally downloaded the "new" BIOS. Everything went fine, but when I tried to install it, a message popped up in the install window:

"*The program will be closed!* There is an error occurred, please check below items. Bios version above 190. Battery capacity more than 10%. AC is attached."

No matter what I do, I get the same error, over and over again. I looked the problem up before I posted this thread, and other people encountered it, but, unlike my case, advices like "Close all background applications", "Charge your battery", or "Make sure the AC is attached" really helped them.

I tried closing everything, my battery is always fully charged, as I rarely disconnect the AC adapter, and, of course, the AC connection issue is not the cause, since it is almost always plugged in.

I checked my BIOS version in +msinfo32.exe+ and it is 1.90 already, but I remember upgrading it months ago (sooner than the release date of this last version), and if, hypothetically, I have the last version already installed, why doesn't Tempro acknowledge it and keeps alerting me over a non-existent issue?

Maybe there is something wrong with Tempro, but I just need to be sure before... Read more

Answer:Satellite C660 - 1C7: BIOS upgrade issue

Tempro notify you about new uploaded drivers or BIOS?
The Toshiba European driver page provides all the drivers and BIOS files and the latest BIOS version 1.90-win has been uploaded at 04.06.2012 and therefore you received this notification by Tempro software.

Who knows why they uploaded this file once again.. but fact is that your BIOS is up to date and therefore you cannot update the BIOS once again using the one and the same version.

Hi all

I was updating BIOS on TOSHIBA SATELLITE C660-13R from windows 7 64 bits. Downloaded driver from toshiba web. Half way the installation laptop freezes. I have left it for 40 mins to run but it did not get back to normal state. As motherboard fan has started to move on high speed I decided to take battery out. In result when I power back my laptop I have 1 beep from the motherboard and black screen.

Can some one help me please ?

Answer:Satellite C660-13R - BIOS update issue

Obviously the BIOS update procedure has failed. Something went wrong during the update process and it looks like the EMRPOM module has not been flashed properly.
This is the reason why the notebook does not work anymore.

Possible solution?
Well, if EMPROM isn?t damage, it should be possible to re-flash the BIOS module once again using special BIOS version and BIOS crisis disk.
Usually the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country should be able to re-flash the module using such crisis disk.

I read also in this forum that some people managed to re-flash the EPROM module using some 3rd party crisis disk found somewhere in the internet? but this did not work always?
So probably the ASP will be your last resort?

However, use the forums advanced search option to find related threads about the BIOS crisis disk? could be interesting for you

Last year I purchased a Satellite C660-1G3 laptop from UK; even today, I am using the factory settings, and running the originally installed Windows 7 OS. The following is the issue that I started facing yesterday onwards:
- Even when the battery is well-plugged and the laptop running, the Power Meter indicates a falling charge level, with the "Plugged in, Not Charging" notification. The orange LED keeps blinking

- However, when I completely shut-down the laptop, without touching anything (not even touching the adapter or the power cord), the orange LED indicating battery charging process stops blinking and becomes stable

- On re-starting the laptop, for about 1 minute or so, the battery appears to be charging (orange LED not blinking and "Plugged in, Charging" message). However, soon the orange LED again starts blinking and the nuisance message again comes up

A couple of things:
- the battery seems to be working fine and charging properly when laptop is shutdown (in fact, till a couple of days back, the battery used to show 2:30 hours of time available on 100% charged level)
- is there some issue with the Operating system? no idea on that

can experts help me in resolving this issue? I do not really want to approach the Service Center due to long distance involved.

- Biren

Answer:Re: Satellite C660-1G3 - "Plugged in, Not Charging" issue

Hi Biren

Not sure if I can help you but I would like to provide you some tips.

1) Check if your BIOS is up to date. If Toshiba European driver page provides newer version, then update the BIOS. Additionally set the BIOS to default pressing F9 and save changed pressing F10.
2) Try to calibrate the battery. To calibrate the battery you should discharge the battery completely and charge the battery again. Repeat this procedure 2-3 times in the row.
3) Remove the battery and AC adaptor and press power button (30 sec long) then connect both parts and check if the LED would start blinking again.

Finally I think that the notebook should be tested using new, good working battery. But if the issue would still persist, then I would assume that your motherboard might be affected.

I have a Satellite 1100 with the Intel 82830M Graphics Card. The latest driver is version 14.7 which I have just installed - the Graphics icon in the bottom right corner changes from a multi-coloured square to a blue screen when you install this, and the mouseover text says "Intel(R) Extreme Graphics".

However, since installing this, my display freezes every time I start a game, or if I go into Display Properties & change anything. A hard reboot is then required. Also, the startup process takes 2-3 times as long since this upgrade.

Has anyone else experienced this problem ? Does anyone know of a solution ? I have seen a few posts on other forums about this, including some saying that this issue was caused by XP Service Pack 2. Can anyone confirm this ?

Answer:Problem with latest Graphics driver for Intel 82830M Graphics Card on Satellite 1100

I assume you have installed the graphic card driver from the Intel website and you use NOT a Toshiba graphic driver which was designed especially for the notebook usage.
Well, Toshiba recommend using the Toshiba drivers. In this case you should try to use the recommended graphic driver which you can download from the Toshiba driver page.

I recently purchased toshiba Satellite C660 M21G Laptop with windows 7 32 bit installed (not licensed) and I installed all the hardware drivers except the SM Bus Controller and the Nvidia GeForce graphic adapter driver, this because it does not exit on toshiba web site, or by other mean it exist but when I try to install either the Chipset utility or the display driver (VGA driver) an error message appear in both installation indicates that I didnt matched the minimum system software requirments for installing both the Dispaly adapter and the chipset.

I dont know why those requirments does not included in the error message ?

I have more that 12 hours trying to find a way out to install the dispaly driver because the standard VGA driver that windows 7 (32 bit) installed is very poor and i cant running any games or playing video smoothly

best regards

Answer:Satellite C660-M21G SM bus controller and display driver installation issue

From my knowledge the Satellite C660-M21G belongs to the PSC1SE series.
I?m wondering where did you find the right display driver for this series?
The notebook seems to support the NVIDIA GeForce 315M

I checked the Toshiba European driver page and not all Win 7 32bit drivers are released on the European driver page? I think you tried to install wrong or not compatible graphic card driver and therefore this error message appeared while installing the drivers.

But it seems that Win 7 64bit driver is available for this series therefore I would recommend testing the driver for Win 7 64bit.
The SM bus controller might be the Card reader and in such case you should install the Card Reader Controller driver from Realtek. There is also an Win 7 64bit driver version available on European driver page?

Test it simply?

Can someone please help,

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

Hi there -

The screen will flicker and flash to black several times; a box appears to say there is an issue with Intel graphics, though it doesn't stay up long enough for me to make note of it. Sounds like you have a proprietary system, probably built by dell or hp.
They sometimes change stuff in the chipsets to save costs.
It's likely the update will not apply for you because only the one provided by the manufacturer of your system will.

Hello,I bought flex 2-14 (pentium, intel vga version).Unfortunately, it has a problem with its monitor (or intel graphics adapter). The monitor works fine on generic win7/win8 driver, but as soon as I install Intel HD video driver, display stops showing anything (its on, but just black screen). It turns on only if I connect external monitor (through hdmi). As soon as I disconnect ext.monitor, then flex monitor goes black. If I disable Intel HD video adapter, then the monitor starts working fine again. This happens both in the original Windows 8.1 (in factory version and in after hundreds of updates to this day) and in Windows 7 (fully updated). I tried video drivers from lenovo support system and through Windows Update system (they have different versions), but it does not change anything. If I connect ext.monitor, uninstall Intel video drivers and then install them again, then Windows and Intel software sees both monitors (external and internal). I can disconnect ext.monitor and then everything is displayed properly in the internal monitor... until I restart the computer. It seems like Windows or Intel HD drivers forget that there is internal monitor. Is there anything I can do?

When connected to VGA, the built in monitor doesn't appear as available, as if only the connected one exists, but if I disable the Intel graphics, then the built in monitor works. Does anyone else have this problem? I really need some help on this issue since I've searched the entire internet and couldn't find anything.
Anyone have a solution?

I would guess this have something to do with the settings of your included program for the laptop. Look for some kind of advanced settings in the included program and and see if you can find anything there. Otherwise an idea could be to provide us with a screenshot.

I have a new 4313 which has the contrast random change issue as mentioned in support forums. It now uses Driver and requires version to fix the problem. I have d/l'd 6hd537ww.exe which contains the new driver, but  have been unable to install this new driver after following 6hd537ww.txt instructions several times, also tried from a terminal session " setup -S " with no results. Can anyone offer some ideas ??      Thanks,  Bob

Hi Joeycan,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with graphic application on your ThinkPad.
Is the graphic driver installed in your system is downloaded from Intel support site?
Uninstall the current graphic driver from the system and run ThinkVantage system update application to check for the latest drivers for your system.
Lenovo support site.
Hope this helps.

I had recently done a clean image from backup and decided to install the latest Intel Integrated graphics driver for my R61, not from the Lenovo website but the Intel site.  This was apparently a bad idea as I started getting wierdo errors when I would change power sources, ie. AC or Battery.  I thought it was the Power manager so I installed the latest from the Energy Star compliance link in the Lenovo download section, but that did not solve it either.  So I did a clean install and went piece by piece into the setup and almost as soon as I installed the latest(14.33.1 package) from Intel this started happening.  I uninstalled the latest and greatest from Intel, went back to the Lenovo downloads and redownloaded the "suggested" package and all was fine. It seems this is one of a couple issues with this version and thought I might post to 1.) ask if anyone else noticed anything and 2.) help inform the general population. Hey everyone, while using the Intel Driver Update Utility I get a message saying I am unable to update my driver because I have a customized computer manufacturer driver. The utility also lists my graphics driver as an Intel (R) Processor Graphics 3000 but when I go to my control panel it says my graphics driver is an Intel (R) HD Graphics Family. What does this mean exactly?

This is what my computer tells me I have:

This is what the Intel Driver Update Utility tells me I have:

Here are my system specs:

So is it possible for me to uninstall my current graphics driver and then install the latest Intel version? I'm not really sure where to go from here. Thanks in advance guys, I hope you all have a great holiday!

Answer:Issue Updating Intel (R) HD Graphics Family

Hello TSSG and welcome to Seven Forums.

Intel has many different series of graphics: 2500, 3000, 4000, etc. Some utilities will simply use the generic designation of "Intel Graphics Family" whenever they detect an Intel driver rather than name a specific version.

When a company like Intel issues a driver, each computer manufacturer is free to customize that driver for their own line of computers. I suspect that Dell did exactly that for its line of Inspiron computers. Because the Intel driver has been customized by Dell, if you try to install the latest and greatest directly from Intel, it could seriously hose your computer. Quick short story:

About a year ago Intel and Windows Update said a new driver was available for my Intel HD 3000 Graphics. I installed it and immediately my Sony Vaio began crashing, hanging, and doing all kinds of weird stuff. Intel and Sony both told me the same thing: never use a non-customized driver if the computer manufacturer had done any modifications to the driver. It took Sony about 6 months to offer their own customized version of the driver. I installed it and haven't had any problems.

So my advice is to wait until Dell does its customizing and then, if you really, REALLY have to get the latest and greatest, get it from Dell. When it comes to drivers, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I have an Optiplex 760 small form that I recently had to reinstall Windows 7 due to a hard drive issue, I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit, I have 2 Gigs of Ram and a 3.00 Core2Duo processor. After the reinstall of Windows I am not able to set the proper resolution of my Dell 1909wf (widescreen monitor) the proper resolution of 1440x900, I am not able to select it. I have my monitor connected though VGA as that is the only connection on my computer. When I go in to Device Manager, I have a little warning triangle next to Intel (R) 4 Series Internal Chipset. When I click on properties of the Intel 4 chipset, the error is:

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
I have downloaded the drivers for the graphics card and for the chipset directly from Dell by entering the service tag and have rebooted my computer several times with no success. I have even had Windows search for the latest update and It says I have the latest driver installed. I also have a warning triangle on Intel (R) Management Engine Interface. Keep in mind that my computers graphics card worked great and had the proper drivers on 7 before the hard drive was re-imaged. I have other 760s with the same specs and monitors that have no issues. I can post more screen shots if needed.

Answer:Dell Optiplex 760- Intel 4 Graphics Issue

Welcome to Seven Forums.
Go into device manager and see if your monitor is listed.
If it is listed as pnp. I would suggest going to Dell to see if their is a.inf file (driver) for it and install it.

Installing the .inf file should get your monitor recognized and this will allow it to run it's native resolution.

Earlier I posted a problem I had with my default graphics card's driver (here). Now it looks like it's stepped up to the next level. Now Windows won't let me use my secondary graphics card at all. When you left-click a program file there is an option that says "Run with graphics processor >". For some reason it's greyed out, it won't let me use anything other than the default integrated graphics card. I can't understanding what's going on. I even reinstalled the Nvidia drivers, but that didn't fix anything.None of the graphics drivers have been replaced through any sort of update service of any sort, apart from the Nvidia driver reinstallation today. This computer definitely recognizes that the secondary Nvidia card is on here. GeForce Experience says that there is a 840m on here and so too does SpeedFan.The issue now is that I can't actually launch anything using the Nvidia card. If I somehow do, the program freezes after a few seconds (Not Responding). The mouse and all still works... and if I force close the program and try to restart it, the "Run with graphics processor >" button is greyed out.Restarts have done nothing.I'm starting to doubt that AVG might have done something. I had been using Norton all this while, but it expired so I decided to try AVG until I renewed Norton, and it ran some PC Tune Up. That did some Registry cleanup (including what it terms as "Temporary Windows Files") and defrag, HDD defrag, removed broken shortcuts, and some other things. I got... Read more

Hello, community. My model is a 20DM000VUS, that's the one with the Intel HD 4400 and the Nvidia GeForce 840m.The display is driven by the Intel HD 4400, and I am not having any problem with that. The issue is that sometimes when I start a program using the Intel HD graphics card it either stutters a lot, freezes or stop completely. The mouse and stuff still works and I can close the program. Here is the message I recieve.I get it everytime I start a call in Skype, or run something a bit demanding... I never got this message in Windows 8, probably because it was the right driver, but I don't recall updating any Intel graphics drivers after I got to W10. The strange part, is that Intel Driver Update Utility tells me that installing their software update for this GPU won't work becuase I have a custom driver from Lenovo. Is that correct? Any ideas? Heard of any updates anywhere? Thanks in advance

Have a good day.

Uninstall the Intel display driver and install the ones from Intel to see if it fixes your issue.  Regards

The ones that are on Toshiba website are released in 2013.. And compatible with windows 7, 8

My TOSHIBA Model no.: Toshiba Satellite L50-A PSKK6E

I tried to replace just the latest driver files from intel website, but I guess that causes BSOD - SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION win32kbase.sys, etc...
Toshiba doesn't care about older computers and that's why they are not releasing them ?

Don't even mention windows 10 driver site, there are only bloatware software and DTS Audio..

hi, i downloaded the latest graphics driver from intel but it don't want to install it? is there any solution for this?

Answer:Cannot install the graphics driver from Intel on Satellite R630

You have to use the driver from Toshiba European driver page.
If you want to install driver from Intel page then you can do this just at your own risk.
Such driver can be installed in device manager. there you have to point to the driver files downloaded from Intel page using the advanced installation procedure and have to force the OS choosing this driver.

As far as I know Windows 10 is still in testing phase so Toshiba didn’t start official Windows 10 support. Windows 10 drivers are not offered for download.
The same situation was noticeable few years ago before Win8 was offered on the market.

Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device.
To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or BIOS update. (Code 35)

Then, I looked a little deeper into the problem and found this:

I got an Satellite U400-14M and want to update my graphics driver to version from to

As it was mentioned in another thread before it didn't work out for me to update the driver from the device manager...
It always says that the best drivers are already installed.

Why is this possible since I'm trying to install the newer driver and when is Toshiba releasing their own grapics driver update?

Thanx in advance!

Answer:Satellite U400-14M - I want to update Intel graphics driver

Maybe you are already using the newest driver.
This is only a plausible explanation if you get the message that your graphic driver is already up to date.

However, the driver installation can be done from the device manager and it will work if you would use the compatible driver.
But if the newest driver is already installed then you will be not able to update it?. Because it?s already updated ;)

I have a T500 with XP Pro running the latest Intel graphics driver (Mobile Intel 4 Express, driver  I have found that using the Display Properties window to manage dual displays does not work quite right. ... I can enable the external monitor and change its relative location without issues, but the moment I try to set the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox and click Apply, it just disables the external monitor instead.   Does anyone know of a way to get this working?  I know that as a work-around I can simply use the Intel driver utility to manage my displays, but I really don't want to have to retrain users on how to get a second monitor to work on their laptops.  I'm assuming it's some kind of driver flaw that prevents the Display Properties window from interfacing with the adapter properly, but Lenovo's support dismissed this as a non-issue, so I'm posting it here to see if anyone can shed some light on this.  We work with various model laptops here and this is the first time I've seen the display properties window not able to manage dual displays properly. Thank you in advance. -Matt

I've been getting this issue since I updated my motherboard BIOS from it's initial version, which I'm going to assume was F4 as it's been a while but I truly don't remember, to F7 and an F8a BIOS Gigabyte support gave me to try and resolve issues with graphics card compatibility.

It seems that whenever the intel graphics accelerator on my Core i5 4670K is disabled, set to a power saving mode, or has intel HD graphics drivers installed, I'll get these freezing crashes, usually within 30 minutes of either booting into Windows or installing intel HD graphics, that require a force reboot. When this happens, and I press my hard reset button, my computer will shut down for a few seconds before starting up again, much like when updating a BIOS or maybe overclocking the CPU.

Now, I've been safe from this issue if I just leave the IGP enabled constantly and don't install drivers, but I guess I finally got off my butt and decided to ask around about this issue, as this seems to be subject to me and my setup. This issue has persisted through a PSU upgrade, and through Windows 8.1 to 10.

I bought this laptop for my mother around 2 months ago, and up until she moved house recently, she always had it plugged in to an external monitor via VGA. When she moved house and the laptop was unplugged, I'm not sure if display settings were changed and the laptop had been turned off, and whether this is the cause of my problem, but now the laptop doesn't recognise it's own screen, and says that a monitor is the primary display when plugged in via HDMI. I think that the issue is that I need to re-install the graphics driver, but I am not sure which one to download and install. There are 4 options on the HP support website: - AMD/Intel Switchable High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver (American, International)  - Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver (American, International)- Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver - Broadwell/Skylake (American, International)  - Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver - Bay Trail-M (American, International) I am pretty sure it is not the first one, as this laptop is Intel rather than AMD, but from there I am not sure which of the other 3 is the correct one. I have downloaded the second one, but I don't want to try and install it in case I lose all function from the laptop. Any help would be appreciated, cheers!

Answer:HP 250 G4 Windows 10 Intel i5 Laptop Graphics Driver Issue

Hi: You should be able to press the F4 key to toggle the display you want to see. Just keep pressing it until you get the notebook display to show up. The graphics driver depends on what processor your notebook has. Bay Trail is for the notebooks with Pentium/Celeron processors and the Broadwell/Skylake is for the notebooks with Intel 5th and 6th generation Core processors.

Hello, I am having a screen flickering issue for some time now and I have narrowed down the issue to my graphics cards and settings.

I have an Asus x73s Laptop with both Intel HD* Graphics 3000 and an Nvidia 610m GPU.

The screen flickering I experience is when I am on my windows 7 desktop. It doesnt matter if I have any programs open or none at all my screen usually flickers. Sometimes it can go hours without doing this. I have no external display available to connect it to through HDMI to check if it happens on an external display.

I have sent my laptop in for repair under warrenty for this before and they said it was not an issue with my screen after a comprehensive hardware test and is a graphics or driver issue. But because the repair depot also sucks balls their solution was to backup my files, wipe and restore my laptop... That fixed it for a few months but the flickering is back.

I have gone through my Nvidia Control Panel and made sure my Nvidia 610m is set to be the priority GPU my laptop uses and have turned off the power saveing settings on the Intel Graphics control panel as i almost always have my laptop plugged in anyways.

The strangest thing I have only just noticed today is there is no screen flicker when playing games or when a game is alt+tabbed in the background.

Currently as I am writing this post I have launched Company Of Heros via Steam and then Alt + Tabbed back to my desktop. When I tab back and exit the game my screen will st... Read more

However whenever I'm playing back HD video, i'll get 4-10 minutes into the file and then VLC or WMD will cut out; audio and picture goes but the time counter continues. The picture then comes back in after a few seconds but is stuttery and jumpy. Also I've seen the CPU usage shoot up to 95%+, which i'm pretty sure it didn't do previously. It's almost like the Intel HD 3000 Graphics adapter is not being engaged at all... So far i've tried;Redownloading and installing all drivers, including ones from intel for the graphics adapter.Adjusting various options in vlc - file cache etc.Installing new codecs from cccp Also prior to the fresh OS install the laptop could play HD videos fine, so I know the hardware/ previous config is capable of playing them. Are there any things you guys could recommend to try? Thanks,Peter

Answer:HD Video playback issue - HD Intel Graphics 3000 +...

It sounds like you are using an operating system that didn't ship with the unit from what I understand. If so, do you have the recovery media and can test this process using the native operating system to see if the issue persists?

I updated my Satelite U940 11X to Windows 8.1 (from 8.0) and now my Intel Graphics 4000 is not working.
The device manager says Code 43: windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
I try to download a new driver from Toshiba, but that's not possible. Every time the download stops.

Probably to much traffic on the connection

In other words you need a graphic card driver.
The graphic card driver can be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page.
You can find it in the L300 PSLB8E series.

The Toshiba European driver page can be found here:
