Satellite C655 does not boot

Question: Satellite C655 does not boot

Have a Toshiba Satellite C655 which suddenly stopped working. Cannot get the system to boot. Tried pressing F8 for safe mode and get nothing, F11 for recovery does not work. 0 does not work, only F2 and F12 works. Do not have a recovery disk.

Win7 Home Premium on system and tried using Win7 Pro but will not repair the strtup files because it states not correct version.

Please help if a solution is available other than sending back to support.

Preferred Solution: Satellite C655 does not boot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite C655 does not boot

F11 is not for recovery. You must try to enter ?Advanced boot options?.
When you start your notebook press F8 *SEVERAL TIMES.*

The problem started a few days ago. My toshiba satellite c655 wouldn't boot. It hangs on the boot screen showing the windows logo and would beep 4 times then start again. I ran the utility to diagnose the problem and it said it couldn't find anything. I can enter safe mode and eventually my computer will stop beeping and will work normally. Yet, every time from then on my computer will hang on the windows screen and beep before it starts. I 'd like to the solve the problem before my computer completely refuses to turn on. I can't find the p.o.s.t. codes for my bios. I am wondering if my keyboard is the cause of this problem because most of the keys aren't working. I am using an external keyboard now.

I am thinking of upgrading my Toshiba Satellite C655 with a faster CPU and am wondering if anyone can tell me which CPU's are compatible with this laptop? At this time it has a AMD V140 Processor 2.30ghz. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S50851. Thank you for any information you can give me.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C655 CPU compatibility

As a general rule with laptops, CPU upgrades don't really give decent increases in performance. Increasing system memory to max allowed and installing a bigger faster hard drive will give you the most "bang for the buck"...

Hi
I have never had a laptop before. Also new to windows 7. Trying to find the simplest way to burn a DVD from another DVD on this new laptop. I know I have to put the info from the DVD on to the laptop. And then burn it on to a blank DVD. I can put the DVD in to the drive. Thats a great start !!! I am looking for the simplest way to "rip" and burn. Even if it means downloading (hopefully free) burning software.

On my desktop CD burner it was pretty easy to burn from a CD to another CD. 2 trays and software to burn. I know this is more complex. I am somewhat computer challenged, btw. Thanks :)

Answer:Satellite C655 - Easiest way to burn a DVD

Hi lili60,

The most DVDs and CDs that you can buy are copy protected so I doubt you will be able to copy them. Usually you can only copy disks from friends with private pictures, music, etc. but common disks are copy protected.

For burning disks you can use the freeware tool ?CD Burner XP?. That?s really nice tool that provide all necessary functions for burning disks. You can download the tool here:
http://cdburnerxp.se/

On the same page you can also find an online help how the program works.

If you have more questions, please let us know! :)

I can't figure out what the problem is nor the solution. I have tried to update the driver but it says it's up to date. Not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

Hello -

I have a Satellite C655 that I purchased and year and a half ago. Over the last few days the fan has been kicking in a lot more than usual. By this I mean the fan or ventilator on the left - the quieter one on the right is always on and pretty quiet.

I'm not running any big programs - just the internet or Word but it's been going on every 30 seconds or so and will sometimes slow the computer down and the little blue circle in Word 7 will start spinning around.

I'm hoping it's that the fan needs cleaning and I have no intention of taking anything apart to try it myself. I use the computer for work so I need it all the time and would have to do some scheduling to have Staples tech guys or Best Buy Geeks do it for me.

Can I use a vacuum on the underside and side vent to pull out any dust - would this help or am I asking for trouble? Is there any way to clean the fan without pulling off any of the covers/keyboard?

Any help is sure appreciated. This is my first post so if you need any other information, please just let me know. Thanks so much.

Answer:Satellite C655 - Can I use a vacuum to clean the fans?

Your only way to get it clean is using vacuum or compressed air and blow out the dust.
If notebook should be cleaned on professional way it must be disassembled. It is only way to get full access to all cooling modules. Please this should be done by authorized service only.

Anyway, try with vacuum.

Sometimes when I wake my laptop up after sleep or hibernation the screen will be way to bright/high contrast to the point where I have trouble reading icon names on my desktop.

The only way I've found to fix it once this happens is to restart, then it's fine. It only does this once in a while.

It's pretty new, not even a year old, so I doubt it would be the back light going bad.
I was just wondering if anyone knew why this would happen and if it's something I should be concerned about?

I have a Satellite c655 running windows 7.

Answer:Satellite C655 - sometimes screen is too bright after hibernation

Hi

To be honest this is the first time that I read about such problems.
Are you able to change the brightness using Fn + F6 or FN + F7 while this issue happens?

But these FN button combinations controls only the brightness and this does not affect the contrast? so not quite sure if it?s really an setting issue?
In worst case your display could be affected? so maybe you should get in contact with an local Toshiba ASP in order to check the internal LCD.

So just like 1000s of others I imagine, Windows 10 violated my C655. I believe it successfully wiped out any trace of Windows 7 for recovery. I even tried a disk I made with the same laptop a year or so ago. It tells me that it doesn't match the hardware. Nice. Tried the "0" at boot to refresh but I get an error code. Command Prompt pimp trying sfcconfig and diskpart. Nada. Zip. Last resort is to erase the hard disk, which may fail also. Will that be an even bigger pile of "ish" to deal with? Opening up a can of worms quite possibly? Will I be able to use my Win7 key located at the Windows sticker on the bottom of this brick? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Remove battery but keep the charger plugged in. Can you run your laptop now on the charger alone ? If your answer is yes, then your battery or its charging circuitry might be at fault. If your answer is no, then your charger is at fault.CoolGuy

Hi Everybody

I?m from Ukraine. My friend bought laptop Satellite C655-S5507. After a week he got a black screen while turning on laptop. Laptop was bought in USA, and there is no possibility to send it in an official service center.
It seems to be that BIOS crashed. I have an experience in laptop repairing, and I?m sure that this is problem with BIOS.

I went on an official Toshiba web-site on support page, to get BIOS file (I'd like to use USB programmer, to flash the BIOS), but there are no such a model (C655-S5507). I've read that this model was produced for some stores in USA, and there are no official drivers for it and also bios file.

Please send it (BIOS file) there or on email ([email protected]) , because laptop without it will be sold by parts, and there are no possibility to repair it without original BIOS file :( .

Answer:Need BIOS file for Satellite C655-S5507

You are right. This is US notebook model. Problem is that I cannot find anything on this US support page.

My advice is to post this on US Toshiba forum http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computers/ct-p/c_laptops/tshb and hopefully someone there will be able to help.

Hi,

I want to know if I can change my Toshiba satellite mainboard with one who I can change the video card and the main processor. So I want a mainboard with non-integrated cpu and video card . It?s that possible?

Of course that I want more powerful in the performance so I want to use in design and rendering programs.

Answer:Mainboard exchange on Satellite C655-S5549

Hello Roberto

Please don't understand me wrong but I?m afraid you are mixing something. All your questions would be understandable for me if this forum were related to individual hardware configuration for desktop machines.

We are discussing here about mobile units or mobile machines with very limited hardware upgrade possibilities. Specific design and special constructed cooling system designed for certain hardware platform don't allow big hardware changes.

With notebooks there is completely different strategy when you think to buy one machine. You must compare hardware configuration and price, of course. Choose the best one and buy it.

You cannot buy some cheap machine and later exchange almost everything inside. Mobile machines are not designed for something like this.
If you need powerful machine with good hardware I?m afraid you must sell your Satellite C machine (middle range notebook) and buy some more powerful notebook.

Let me start off by saying I am not very tech savvy lol

I have been having issues with this laptop lately. When I try to do updates on things such as Adobe and I have to choose between 32 or 64 bit, it recommends 32 bit, but I'm supposedly running on 64..

It takes forever to load pages on the internet, and now I can't even see video content through sites like youtube. I have all these services running that I don't even know what they are or if they should be running, can anyone help me get this laptop running better?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite C655 running horribly help pls

Hi, we need more info on your system, to begin 2 gb, on a 64 bit system is not going to cut it, you do need 4 gb of RAM, so this would be my first consideration.

Very hard to read your screen shots in a meaningful way, go to start search and type cmd, right click on the returned cmd.exe and select "run as administrator" at the prompt copy paste:-

Code:
echo > 0 & tasklist /v >> 0 & net start >> 0 & systeminfo >> 0 & echo >> 0 & notepad 0
press enter, please copy paste the notepad outcome here.

BTW:- from the systeminfo cmd you can delete the windows updates(hotfixes) we don't need them, will reduce the size of the post.

I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite C655 and I cannot get any sound out of my external speakers.

I do, however, have sound from the small internal laptop speakers. I have looked at the configuration for the soundcard (Conexant CX20671) and cannot find any way to select an external speaker setup. I'm using the correct line-in jack (not the headphone jack) so I'm really confused as to what the problem is. Is this sound driver compatible with my external speakers (Logitech Z-540)?

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Satellite C655 - No sound on external speakers

If you are connecting the speakers using optical (SPDIF) or Analog?

What port did you plug the speakers into? You will need to use the Headphone Jack (Analog Stereo). The other one is usually the Microphone input jack.

> I have a brand new Toshiba Satellite C655 could I fix the hard drive input plug because somebody snapped it off and also the start button was removed off the board.

Do you mean the SATA connector on the motherboard? Is it broken?
Well, I don?t think its easy to fix. If something is broken on the motherboard, then mostly you will need an new motherboard or you would ask an specialist (electronics technician) for help.

> Also have a Toshiba U300 which is flicking screen then turns blue and switches off and on by itself.
Try to clean the cooling ventilators using compressed air spray. Mostly the notebook switches OFF automatically due to higher temperature? and cleaning cooling fans can help to get better cooling performance.

I tried reinstalling the driver (kinda? uninstalled it and checked for software changes) and restarting my pc (restart happened first), no avail. I have relatively new Toshiba Satellite C655 and after spilling a (tiny) amount of soft drink on the upper left keyboard, the keyboard quit working completely.

After installing a new keyboard, most keys work except for the P, R, V, T, [, and Space keys. External USB keyboards work flawlessly. I bought another new keyboard and carefully replaced it, but the problem persists. After this, I tried updating the BIOS to no effect.

Is anyone familiar with this, and know how to fix the problem?

Answer:Satellite C655 - new keyboard doesn't work properly

Hi

I guess this issue did not appear in the past before the soft drink has been spilled on the keyboard. Right?

This means that this fluid is the reason for the keyboard problem.
I guess, both new keyboards are OK.

In such case the problem can be the motherboard or you used both keyboards which are not fully compatible. But I guess this isn?t really a problem.

Possibly you motherboard is affected?. :( but this is just an suggestion

Toshiba Satellite C655 Laptop cannot restore to factory settings with or without OEM Toshiba rescue disc.

In short, I attempted to replace bad hard drive. First, I used spotmau to partition and format the replacement drive. Then, I changes the boot settings to usb dvd. I booted to the OEM Toshiba rescue disk to reinstall windows 7, 64-bit os. I used both a LG Super multi drive to install the rescue disk, and the laptop's actual optical drive/disk tray to no avail. The first of four disks did download. The second disk of four failed to complete the process.

Then when the system rebooted to windows, the following error:

I reattempted the re install process three times with the same results.

Does anyone know how to successfully reinstall windows 7, 64-bit under these conditions? Thanks

My laptop doesn't power on after I do a windows shutdown.

After it completely closes, when I try the power button nothing is happening (neither a led, neither the screen or the vent. it doesn't start)

After I take out the power supply and the battery for one minute and put it back, when I try to power on - it starts.
I changed the RAM memory with good ones, same thing. I cleaned up the laptop and put high quality thermal paste on the processor.

The model is: Toshiba Satellite C655-S5128.
This thing it happens since I cleaned my laptop.
(I mention that I do clean up for laptops everyday, so I know how to do it)

Answer:Satellite C655-S5128 doesn't start - power on problem

The unit doesn?t power up since you cleaned the notebook?
Hmm? these sounds like something went wrong during the cleaning procedure.

I believe you that you have lot of experience in notebook cleaning and you know how to do that but obviously this time you made some mistake? sorry to say this?.

In my opinion the issue is related definitely so some hardware problem? I don?t know who you cleaned the unit and what parts (beside the CPU) have been removed during this procedure but probably one of these parts have been affected or don?t function properly.

I bought this laptop for a great deal less than a month ago but the return policy was the first of January. On the 8th I spilled a water bottle by accident from doing some school work and not paying attention to how close it was. I know that it is a horrible choice to eat/drink around technology. I quickly turned it off, took out the battery, tipped it upside down to get some water out, then i took the keys off and dried it all underneath them, next i waited about 6 hours and was so worried i turned it back on and everything was working fine until I tried typing =( I knew i should wait longer so i turned it back off and waited 30 hours and it still wasn't typing right i.e press k kj90 comes up. Then I decided to just use a usb keyboard and do the rice thing to the actual keyboard. Now I am still using the usb one which can get annoying but I can live and it has been over 4 days since the accident occurred. Is it possible that it's still drying out some keys work but some of them type other letters that are close by it? Could I buy a similar model keyboard and replace this one? I called Toshiba and they said it wasn't covered and would cost $180 to get it replaced but I don't have that money. I have also checked online for the same keyboard replacement but I didn't find any but similar one's. Thanks

I am experiencing an erratic text insertion point.
When using MS Word, WordPress, or other typing endeavors, the text insertion point jumps around while typing.
The result is;

1) what I type is inserted into text that is already written,
2) text is placed elsewhere on the page, or
3) written text is erased --- this may be a few words or a whole paragraph.
Typing is like playing a game --- can you type and watch where the words are placed or erased and still finish a sentance.

I use a Satellite C655 which I've just purchased through BJ's, Word 7, Internet Explorer, and Word Starter 2010.
I don't like this version of Word, but my disk for Word 2003 will not install due to a "missing file" -- go figure.
It installs on my new desktop under Windows 7.

Any suggestions? Is this a problem such that I should return my laptop to Toshiba?
Since I am a writer, this problem is a severe one for me.

Furthermore you should disable the touchpad while typing.
In my case I touched the touchpad area accidentally while typing and therefore my cursor jumped to another line

Question: Toshiba C655 USB

I am running Win7 64bit.

So for some reason my USB ports does not read anything except my Nikon SLR - Apple Ipod and phone among other devices have all been successfully run from these ports, but as of a couple days ago - the PC fails to recognize anything except the camera.

I am wondering if this is a firmware issue and where is the USB 2.0 firmware download?
Also when viewed in Device Manager - none of the entries show any exclamation points or failure - I'm totally stumped.

Unfortunately I regularly remove old restore points to save disk space - as of yesterday - I had only 1 restore to choose from, but when attempting to choose that - it would reboot the pc and when it came to the desktop - it would tell me the restore failed and nothing had been changed - said it might have been due to a antivirus program, but I disabled them and tried it again and same thing.

I currently have the latest BIOS 1.30 & legacy USB support is enabled.

This pc is a Toshiba C655 S5512.

So far I have not determined the cause - I performed a clean boot via the msconfig options - doesn't appear to be software, but am totally stumped at why the Nikon is recognized by the pc and nothing else (either port).

Now, as of 2 1/2 days ago - when I plug the Nikon into a port (doesn't matter which one), after attempting to copy files to the pc, it will cut power to the Nikon device.

So it sounds like the ports are on their way out ugh.

If you connect some device, do you see if it is receiving power? (mice light up, HDDs start vibrating and whirring, or some lights flash)

Can you check the manual that there isn't some key or key combination that disables/enables the ports?

Can you install the latest chipset driver from here (I know it says it is not USB drivers, but the chipset is the component actually controlling USB ports anyway)?

I NEED A NEW PASSWORD FOR MY NEW LABTOP C655

Answer:I NEED PASSWORD TO C655,rdpike 2000

It is bad manners and considered to be SHOUTING to post in upper case.If the laptop is password protected then it follows that you must have created it. Creating a new password is easily done if you follow the procedure in the Help menu. If you created a password reset disk you can change it there. That said password help is not available on this forum due to the difficulty in proving ownership. If the laptop was obtained elsewhere then you should ask the previous owner.

Hello,

I have a Toshiba P200-17c running vista machine and it wont boot up, hangs on boot screen. I
have used iso image to boot from and have run disk repair, makes no difference.
Machine wont get beyond microsoft loading page (with yellowish bar scrolling).

My question is: how can i replace / repair the boot.ini to get machine to boot up or disable all apps / drivers for apps in order to get machine to boot.

I did not (my own fault) create a back up or restore disk.
After booting machine from cd, running system repair and attempting to run system restore also doesn't work...

Can anyone advise on a way to replace/repair boot.ini or deactivate drivers?

Trying to avoid paying a further ?30 pounds for a recovery disk as i have already paid for licensed software, not sure why.
If paid for you don't get a Vista copy with machine....

Anyway any help would be most appreciated.

Tried booting Vista in safe mode? You can access this mode by pressing F8 before Vista starts. In this mode noe drivers are loaded.

Other method to edit boot.ini would be to use boot discs like BartPE or some Linux distributions like DamnSmallLinux.

Hi!
Does someonw know which boot key combination is working for the L850-1k0 ?
I flashed a modded bios, that first worked, then changed settings for the graphic card, shut down and now the laptop is with black screen (also at external monitor on VGA or HDMI).

Now I try to reflash the original BIOS (InsydeH20 6.8) with wincrisis ( which should boot from usb, which would be indicated by the flasing light on the usb), but this needs certain key combinations held during powering on, that differ: I tried with the ones I found googling for similar models, Fn + Esc, Fn + Esc, Windows + F, Windows + B, Fn + B - but nothing worked, no activity at the usb.

So does someone know the working combination f?r this model L850-1k0?
I did not find something searching for it online!

Help would be very appreciated!

Thank You!

Hi

Does this happen using the notebook only with connected battery or AC adaptor?
Did this happen before updating the BIOS?

To be honest the issue sounds strange to me? usually the notebook shuts down because of the higher temperature but in your case I doubt that this could be related to an over heating issue.

You could try to remove the HDD and could try to access the BIOS.

Howdy all, first post here.

I have a Satellite P840, Part PSPJ6A-00h001

Windows 8.

I am having trouble accessing the Bios or the Boot Order. I need to boot from a CD/DVD and I cant get into the options of boot to change the boot order.

I have tried F12 F2 pushing repetitively on boot, holding down F12 and holding for 1 second (as per the manual) with no luck.

What am I missing....I have never not been able to get to boot options before. The only thing is it is Win8 which I am not familiar with.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello to everyone

I got a Toshiba C850D-140 laptop, bought about one-two years ago. I decided to reinstall Windows 7 and I began the whole process. Everything was good, the "expanding windows files" bullet finished successfully and then the laptop restarted automatically. Then the problems started.

No Toshiba logo showed up, only an underscore at the upper left corner, non blinking, just laying there. After about two seconds the system restarted and the underscore showed up. This process loops forever. I can enter BIOS menu, I can enter boot list menu but the problem is that the laptop cannot boot from any device. Neither HDD, nor USB nor DVD. The DVD contains genuine Windows 7, working and tested on other PC's but the laptop refuses to boot from it.

Any ideas?
Thanks beforehands

Answer:Satellite C850D-104 - no HDD boot, no ODD boot, just black screen

From my knowledge the ?blinking underscore? means a HDD problem.
But you said, the underscore does not blink but its ?lying?.

In some cases this could mean an RAM malfunction. However this is just an idea.

Question: did you set the BIOS to default? In BIOS press F9 to get default settings and pressing F10 save the changes.

Is HDD listed on the first BIOS page (HDD name, size,)???
If not, this means that HDD is faulty.

*Model: Satellite M40-237 (PSM40E)*

I decided to reinstall windows, my hard drive is currently formatted. So as usual, boot from Windows CD is needed to start instalation but it simply won't boot. I never had problems like this, boot always worked. It is like there is no bootable CD in the drive (but it is bootable and it is working on another PC).

- i have the latest BIOS
- BIOS detects optical drive and everything is ok, HDD is primary ODD is secondary
- i tried selecting boot priority with F12 and/or setting it from BIOS, but it won't work either way

What could be the problem here? Drive not working properly (i hope it is that and not something worse)? I had some problems with the drive i before (writing...), but it reads CD/DVD's normally and like i said boot was working fine before. I cleaned the lens a little, disconected it and put it back. Is there anything more i can do ?

I am trying to find someone who has the drive that fits so i can try with that one, but who knows when will that be.

Now, here is the second question i have related to this. Because my laptop is practically useless currently (i can't install anything), is it possible to boot from:
a) external USB optical drive
b) USB flash drive

Bios on this laptop has no USB boot option, it has HDD / CD / FDD / network. But I've red somewhere that FDD = USB if legacy emulation is enabled.

If that is correct i should just plug the USB drive and select FDD as boot option ? If i can't find U... Read more

Answer:Satellite M40-237: CD Boot not working + is USB flash drive boot possible

Hello

Have you original recovery CDs? Have you tried to use them for OS installation?
Power up your notebook with installations CD in ODD and press C button several times. It should force ODD to be first bootable device. Please post the result.

As far as I know if you want to use external USB ODD you need DOS driver for it. The drive will not be recognized automatically. You must start your notebook with DOS floppy start disk, load DOS driver for external ODD and when you have access you can see the content of CD/DVD and start installations procedure.

I don't know how but my Grandson has seriously broken his Satellite C660-2EV

Boot from HDD - Boot Mgr not found

Boot to recovery partition - Boot Mgr not found.

Boot from a (Generic) Windows 7 install disk - boots, starts to install, finds it has not got a required driver (but doesn't tell me what it is). Allows me to access drives C:, D:, E: and X:

Boot from Toshiba recovery DVD. White bar gets around 25% across screen then stops with "You have removed USB media during install" (or something like that, laptop currently in pieces).

Removed and re-seated memory and DVD drive. Removed HDD, plugged into my PC through USB adaptor and scanned the two visible partitions (300Gb each) at bad sector level. No problems.

Help! I'm out of options.

Laptop must be (basically) functional as it will boot from (non-Toshiba) DVD.

HDD seems OK when checked externally and from (Non-Toshiba) boot

What's left?

Answer:Satellite C660-2EV doesn't boot - Boot Mgr not found

All you have done is right and I would make the same tests.

Set BIOS to default settings and test it with another HDD, if you can obtain one for testing purposes.
I cannot say for sure but somehow I feel HDD is the troublemaker.
Try to install original recovery DVD on new HDD.

Hi

Hope someone can help me please.

I have a friends Toshiba Z930 Ultra book.

When you boot the laptop it does not boot but comes up with the meesage PXE-E61 : Media Test Failure.

This is a Windows 8 Laptop 3rd Gen i7.

I can boot from HIREN's and the Hard Drive is found and is selectable and all files appear to be intact.

I have gone into the BIOS and discovered that Boot mode is set at CSM Mode.
However Windows 8 requires the boot mode to be UEFI.

I can not find how to change the Boot Mode from CSM to UEFI.
The option is greyed out and can not be selected.

Help
Please

Answer:Satellite Z930 - Boot mode set to CSM Boot and Greyed Out

Try load setup defaults. I'm not aware if Z930 has UEFI Support but I guess. Mabye there is some kind of superuserpassword you haven't entered to gain full access to bios functions.

The failure is about LAN/PXE Boot, nothing to worry about.

Win8 doesn't essentially requiere UEFI. it also works with CSM, but may need other bootloader and BCD container to run current installation.

Hi,

i have an Satellite A30 and sometimes it does not boot.
After powering on, not even the BIOS starts,
even though sometimes the BIOS starts, but OS does not load.

I figured out that its related to USB-devices connected at boot time.
If no USB-devices are connected, it boots without problems.
Even if boot hangs, as soon as you disconnect the USB-devices BIOS starts.
Its ok to connect the USB-devices later, once the system has started.
I disabled "booting from removable devices" and "boot from network",
just in case, but it makes no difference.

BIOS is newest version (1.70) and it happens with all kinds of USB-devices,
printer, mouse and (self-powered) external USB hard-disk.

Is this a known issue?
Is there any known workaround?

Answer:Satellite A30 does not boot with USB-device connected at boot time

Hi

I don?t know why it happens but it has to do with the BIOS.
The same happened on my old notebook. I could not boot up my unit while the USB printer was enabled and connected.
The only solution is to disconnect the external USB device during the boot process.

Ps; you should check if the booting order in the BIOS was set to HDD firstly.

I would really, really appreciate any help on this one.

On Saturday I bought a Toshiba A210-17I. On Monday, I plugged it in, to charge the battery and when it was charged, switched on - Vista completed the installation and everything seemed absolutely fine. I powered off overnight but this morning, I am getting problems :-(

When I power up, the system appears to boot and in due course, I see Windows is Loading Files, followed by the "(c) Microsoft Corporation" message with the progress bar. This scrolls across the screen for a while, the HDD light flickers a few times and then the screen goes completely blank and it is as though the laptop has gone into some sort of hibernation mode - the Power light (O with a vertical line) remains on.

Exactly the same happens if I boot from the "Product Recovery" DVD - having pressed [F12] and selected to boot from the DVD Drive.
The installed OS is Windows Vista Home Premium OEM.
The battery is fully charged.
Memtest86+ v1.70 hasn't found any errors.

Any suggestions as to what I can try next? I don't have any data on the system so I don't care if everything is refreshed, I just don't know hoe to proceed. Incidentally, I do have access to (legitimate) copies of Windows 2000, 32-bit & 64-bit XP & 64-bit Vista if that will help in any way?

Very many thanks for any useful feedback ;-)

Answer:Satellite A210-17I doesn't boot as it should - actually, it will not boot

It seems that I have now resolved this problem. I couldn't get anywhere using the Toshiba "Product Recovery" disk (which quite frankly, I might as well throw away since it doesn't appear to work) or a Vista installation disk.

In an effort to get round the problem, I tried installing XP Home. I booted from an installation disk, deleted the "Data" partition and reformatted it to install XP onto. XP reported that the laptop needed to reboot to complete the reformat (not seen that before). When it rebooted, out of curiosity, I allowed the laptop to try loading Vista - it started to do so and then announced that it needed to correct a problem. I left it for a while and when I went back to it, Vista was running again.

The only thing that I can think of was that the MBR must have gotten corrupted.

It is most unlikely to have been a Virus because the laptop had only been on the Internet for a few moments to complete the initial setup / registration - after which it went wrong.

I had thought of proceeding to load XP so that I could have a dual-boot system - however, setting up a system to dual-boot Vista & XP doesn't seem anything like as simple as dual-booting XP & Linux, so I will forget about that for the present.

Hi,
firstly thanks for your time.

Model: Satellite A660 (PSAW3A-07U00R)

The problem started yesterday, the computer was going slow as an application closed, so I held the off button untill the pc turned off. When I restarded the laptop it went to a screen saying: Start windows normally or repair Windows (recomended)

When started normally it just hangs at a blank screen, the repair Windows recommends a system restore to earlier point which didnt work. As it just hangs again. I tried pressing F8 and starting in safe mode but again it just hangs. Then after a few times trying safe mode and another system restore the computer then hangs when I press F8. After this the computer goes past the Toshiba logo screen with F2 and F12 options (which both still work), and then it comes up boot failed then goes blank and comes with boot failed bootfailed with some numbers and letters, then it goes to a small box titled boot menu with 4 options. These are
HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX
CD/DVD MAT****ABD-CMB UJ141ES
FDD
LAN

If I press ESC it goes through the bootfailed loop and ends up at same screen, if I press enter on "HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX" then it quickly comes back to screen and at the bottom it says [HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX] is failed.

I dont understand why it got worse over time. Can anyone think of why this has happend and more importantly how can I get my pc working again? Note: holding 0 then starting does nothing for me atm

regards, Matthew

Hi,

my Satellite L40-10U wont boot up. I switch it on, fan, DVD-ROM, battery LED works. Hard drive LED only flashes once (If I'm lucky). Now, I noticed that when I remove the RAMs (or try plugging just once at the time) it still does exactly the same thing, so I want to ensure if it is a problem with dead RAMs? Is there a way to check the RAMs without plugging it to another ntb (i dont have any)?

Then at this stge the little circles just keep spinning.

Then press power button and immediately after that press F12 button
Then you should see a screen similar to this one:

Then I would recommend you to choose the HDD Recovery option…. The last option in this menu.
This would start the HDD recovery procedure and would recover the notebook back to factory settings…

HI Gleb,

The normal way to select the boot device is to press and hold the F12 key during the initial power on process. This will cause the 'Boot Device Selection' menu to appear.

Alternatively you can try the Toshiba short cut which is to press and hold the 'C' key during the initial power on.

I have what has uptil now been a fairly reliable Toshiba Satellite M60. A few weeks ago I tried to boot up and the power light came on, the disc light flicked momentarily and the fan went on. Within 2 to 3 seconds the fan stopped, the disc light also went out. During this the screen never ever came on at all, ie the Toshiba splash page did not come up. The computer will not budge from that position, its almost dead.

However...... if I leave it and come back to it maybe the next day the machine boots up perfectly. Wont happen again for a few days then happen again. Its getting most annoying and I wish to get the problem rectified. Anyone have any experience of this? And any help on fixing it before I send it back to Toshiba?

My problem is that knowing my luck if I send it back to Toshiba, they wont experience this intermitent fault and thus wont be able to fix something they cant see is wrong.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite M60-164 sometimes boot, sometimes not

Hi

This sounds very strange?. Looks like hardware would malfunction? motherboard????
Who knows? it?s not easy to say without running any tests? you know.

Did you try to update the BIOS?? Check if Toshiba has published a new version. But be careful.
Be sure that you use the right BIOS and right BIOS update procedure.

Anyway, if the problem persists you should definitely contact the service provider in your country for notebook check.

I have a brand new Satellite Pro L50 (PSKK3A-001001)

RAM config is default 1 x 4GB DDR3 12800 1 slot used 1 slot free
I removed 4GB and install 1 8GB DDR3L 12800 but it won't boot.
The specs state 16GB capacity so with 2 slots logically this means 2 x 8GB cards.
It also states DDRL which I assume is the correct type.

The 4GB brand was Hynix and the 8GB is Apacer.
Anyone have a resolution on this or know what the issue is?

Answer:Satellite Pro L50 won't boot with 8GB

On this forum you can find many threads where people describe similar issues. In most cases problem is compatibility modules, especially if Ram should be upgraded with modules produced by different manufacturers.

According notebook specification you need DDR3L (1600Mhz) memory.
Talk with your local dealer and ask if there is compatibility module from Kingston. Kingston offers high quality and 100% compatible memory modules.

Hi, I have had several problems over the past couple of weeks with my Toshiba laptop. I decided to back up all my files and use the recovery disk to clear everything out. I put in the disk and then changed the BIOS so the CD/DVD drive was first. (I hope the Toshiba L10 Series Tools and Utilities CD-ROM, is the right disk)

This just loaded windows as normal and I can not seem to get the disk to boot. If you have any advice for me please reply asap.

Thanks in advance :) Ashley

Hi,

You have in the included and delivery a recovery CD, Tools and Utilities CD-ROM, is not the same. Use the recovery CD for your Backup.

Hi I'm looking at an L10 for a friend, at the moment when turning it on, the fan whirrs up, the hard drive led blinks a few times and the cd drive spins up, but nothing further than that happens. The screen doesn't show any life, no beeps come off it it just sits there doing nothing with the power light on and fan whirring.

So far I've tried attaching a monitor to the vga port, no signal from it. Putting a linux boot cd in the drive, it spins up and sounds like its accessing but I don't think its booting, the screen certainly does nothing, and the hard drive is silent. Finally I tried taking the battery out and running from mains. This didn't change anything.

So at the moment I can't get any diagnosis and I've no idea what could even be wrong with it, does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Satellite Pro L10 won't boot up

Hi

As you described it?s very difficult to say what?s wrong.
It seems it could be definitely something wrong with the hardware because you cannot see the Toshiba welcome screen at the beginning of the booting.

I don?t know if it helps but try to remove the battery for several time disconnect form mains and wait? after 30min (can?t say the exactly time) try to insert the battery again and connect to the mains. Try to boot again.

If it doesn?t helps I suppose you will need an additional help from a technician.

My computer will not boot up. Yesterday I got the blue screen but then restarted and everything was OK. Got up this morning computer won't boot. I have a Toshiba Satellite A30. I got the Toshiba screen, then the black screen to choose 'Start normally', 'last good settings', 'safe mode', 'safe mode with network' etc.

I chose normal start then I get the Windows XP screen with the blue bar. When that has loaded it went straight back to the initial Toshiba screen and then keeps repeating. I also tried safe mode but that won't load either.

What should I do? I don't want to wipe the hard drive as there is lots of valuable data (family photos, work) etc. Please help me

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite A30 won't boot up

Hi,

if you have a Windows XP CD you can try to repair the OS.
But if you only have a recovery disk, you can just reinstall the system.
In this case make backups of your important data.

Hello!

I have there a Toshiba Satellite M30-344.
I didn't use the notebook since several weeks. Now everytime I boot the Notebook an error appears: "0203: Failure IDE #2 - Do you want to run setup".
Since the last use I didn't change anything on the configuration.
The only problem there was, is that I has forgotten to turn him off and he kept running under my table for more than 2 weeks.

Is there a way to solve this problem?

Thank you for your help.

Greetings from Germany!

Answer:Satellite M30-344 would not boot up

Hi,

...oh dear, you are not kidding?? You forgotten to turn him off and kept him under a table??? Man, THAT?s REALLY weird. :)

And now to help you with your problem:
IDE#2 means the DVD-drive, so you have some options to bring your machine to life, since your DVD-drive maybe could be faulty.
Firstly, try to get into BIOS and make everything to default. If you didn?t get any results, then remove the drive by unscrewing the screw under the drive and pulling the drive gently out
of tha machine. You can also after you unscrewed it, open the drive and then gently pulling it by the inner carriage of the drive.

If unsure how to make or to much fear to damage something, then bring your machine to an local ASP and they will help you with your little problem.
So I think, your drive is probably faulty.

Greets

P.S.: And try to remember next time when what you keep under your table like notebooks, pets, humans, gremlins.... ;)

Nice weekened

Hi,

I have start up problem with my laptop.
After working, when i put down the lid ,system goes in stand by like it should.
When i leave it like that for a relativly long time (more than an hour) and I open the lid and press the power button all the lights go down and it wont start at all.

No matter how long i try it stays dead. i tried everything unplugging than pluging the battery and the adapter, nothing happens.

Please help!!!

Answer:Satellite L30-101 does not boot up

Usually when you want to use notebook again you must just open the lid and notebook should be waked up alone.
What happen when you just open the lid?
Does power button still blinks and notebook stays in the standby mode?

I'm getting the following messages...

WHEN BOOTING FROM HDD: "Invalid partition table"

WHEN BOOTING FROM CD-ROM: "No Bootable CD in ATAPI CD-ROM"
Consequently, even though I have the recovery CDs the computer cannot read them.

I tried changing boot order to no avail. Created a Bart's bootable CD which works in my other computer but not in this laptop. Are there special drivers I need for this CD-ROM?
I am at wits end on this one.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite M45: Cannot boot from CD-ROM or HDD

Hi

I think your partition on the HDD is corrupt and therefore you cannot boot from the HDD.
In such cases the HDD should be completely formatted and then you could try to install the OS.

It seems also that your drive cannot recognize the bootable CD (WinXP???) and therefore it?s not possible to boot from the drive.
Well, it?s really stupid situation :_| really stupid!

However, did you try booting from other CD? For example original Microsoft Windows CD?
If not I would recommend to do it and possibly the drive will be able to read the other CD.
If not so I think the drive must be checked. Possibly it?s also corrupt.

Hello,

i have a Satellite M50-182.
Since a couple of days I?m experiencing a strange problem on my notebook.

When i press the power button it turns to blue light like usual, i hear the fan for 2 seconds and after that the system halts immediately (i don?t get any screen ) and powers off.

First i thought it might be an insulate contact but the same happens in battery mode. After several trials the system comes up, but it can take up to 5 minutes pressing the power button.

Is there any idea, that can cause this problem?
kind regards,
philip

Answer:Satellite M50-182 does not boot up

Hi!

Try to remove the battery and disconnect the AC/DC adapter.
Wait at least 30-40 minutes.
Then connect the battery and/or the AC/DC adapter and try it again.

Otherwise I would go to a local ASP. I think there is something wrong with the hardware (I think motherboard or CPU).

Answer:Satellite P10-792 won't boot up

Check the voltage of the AC Adapter, if its giving less than 19volts, it could be faulty.

Otherwise it sounds like it needs a new mainboard. You might be able to find one on eBay.

Hello

I have been given a laptop from a friend who has asked me to try and repair it. The problem it seems to be having is the following:

When the power button is pressed, the laptop begins to start, the Toshiba logo is shown on screen as well as the message to press F2 for setup and suchlike. Unfortunatly this is as far as it goes.
If I press F2, the text at the bottom of the screen changes to Entering Setup... but does not actually do so (and I have left it for a long time just in case). The person who brought it to me says that she was burning a CD and the laptop froze, then rebooted and has shown the same behaviour ever since.

I have tried a new set of RAM as well as trying to boot it from a CD, neither of which it seems to want to do.
If I press escape just before the laptop shows the Toshiba logo, the startup sequence is shown and halts at Mouse Initialized (if this helps anyone)

I know that I could send the laptop in to a Toshiba Repair Centre but the person is trying to keep the cost of repair low. Also the laptop is two years old so doesnt qualify for warranty.

Any help or advice on what to try would be great as I'm all out of ideas!
Thanks
Steve

Answer:Satellite M35 won't boot up

Hello Steve

I can understand that this person doesn?t want to pay service but you must know that on some point there is no much to do. If you are not able to enter BIOS setting there is something wrong with the machine.

You can try to press F8 after notebook start to see what happen but as I said there must be some serious hardware problem. If nobody here can help you please contact the service. Nobody force you to give them unit to be repaired but you can just talk with them and see if issue like this is known and how much the repair will costs.

Good luck and please keep us posting if you know more about it.

Hi,

I have a Satellite M40-136 that is 2.5 years old. I was using it yesterday and then closed the lid so it powered down as normal. About half an hour later I realised I needed to check a file so I opened the lid and normally it would power back up automatically, but it didn't. I pressed the ON button which is surrounded by an LED, I think orange means it is in standby otherwise it is blue.

When I pressed it, it showed the orange light for about 2 seconds and then nothing for 5 seconds and then blue for 5 seconds. For these last 5 seconds the machine sounds like it, it trying to start up but then it immediately powers down. I have tried and tried again but it does the same thing. I have tried using the mains lead. I have managed to put the recovery DVD in during the 5 seconds the blue light is on and I press the 'C' button but this does not work.

Does anyone have any idea about what I can do to get the machine to boot up?

Nicky

Answer:Can't boot up Satellite M40-136

Disconnect everything from the notebook! Remove the battery and the AC adaptor.
Then wait about 30min and then inset the battery and connect the AC to the notebook.
Check if the notebook will power up.

If not -> contact the ASP (authorized service partner) in your country because the strange notebook behavior looks like a serious problem which cannot be resolved by an common user!!!

The light indicator that show it is connected to a power supply is on, but the on/off switch doesn't respond even when pressed down for over a minute.

Tried to research here without success and the US forum pointed me here.

I think the battery is integrated and there doesn't seem to be a reset button

Hi All.

I've been given an A40 to get going for a friend, and I'm struggling. It's currently just cycling through the boot process. It does the same thing when I go into XP's Safe mode.

Anyway, I've tried to run the recovery CDs, but I can't get it to boot them. I managed to get into the BIOS (holding the escape key after powering on), but that only lets me update the system time & the password (which is currently shown as "not registered"). It shows the boot sequence as HDD first, which it successfully does each time (just not far enough to be any use). So how do I get it to boot from a CD?

I found an item for an A30 which says to press the C key during boot or at the Toshiba splash screen, or F12 at the splash screen, but neither of these seem to have any effect.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Pete

Answer:Satellite Pro A40: How do I boot from CD?

Yes, you could be able to enable the boot menu on the screen pressing the F12 immediately after powering on the notebook.
The C button should also enable the booting from CD/DVD drive.

Try this several time. Usually it should work if the notebook doesn?t malfunction.

Hi. i have just acquired a free secondhand A30 for my daughter, I know nothing of its history. When I start it up (On either AC or battery), the lights come on, the fans start up, it has a couple of goes at starting the dvd drive then the fans go off and it just sits there with the power light and HDD light on. I get nothing on the screen during all of this. Can anybody help with a possible cause.Thanks.

Answer:Satellite A30 won't boot up

HI Chris,

When you first power on your A30 you should see a 'Toshiba' splash screen whcih is displayed while the BIOS is loading. Following this (usually after about 10 seconds or so) the screen should go black and then you should see the initial loading screen for your operating system.

If you see neither screen then there is possibly a problem with your display in which case you will need to have the unit checked/repaired by a Toshiba Authorised Service Partner. If, however, you do get the Toshiba splash screen after which the display stays black then it is possible that the previous owner has wiped the hard drive and you will need to obtain either a recovery CD for the unit or a Retail copy of Windows which you will then need to install.

I have had a Satellite Pro A10 sitting around for a few months not been used. The battery completely discharged.

When I tried to use it recently the battery charge light went from amber to green as expected when I left it plugged in to charge. After full charge I pressed the startup button, the laptop started up once for about a minute, and it said warning low battery, then shut down. Now when I press the start button on laptop it wont start up at all. It is dead, even though AC adapter is plugged in, and charge up battery for a few hours. I have tried taking out battery and reseating it. The power supply appears to be working as there are green lights on laptop.

Is the laptop dependent on the battery to start up even though AC adapter is still plugged in? Ie is it possible i need a new battery?

Or do you think it could be a hardware problem?

Please Help

Answer:Satellite Pro A10 - Won't boot up

Hi paulcobb,

I doubt that you need only a new battery. If the battery wouldn?t work properly, the computer would start because it gets the power via AC/DC adaptor so the battery has nothing to do with that.

You can only try to take out the battery and remove the AC/DC adaptor. Then wait one hour at least and now connect both device again.

If the notebook doesn?t start it seems to be a hardware issue. You should ask a notebook technician for help, maybe the mainboard must be replaced.

Good luck! :)

I have a Satellite L30 101 and from it has not been able to load-up!

The first time I turned it on it loaded fine, then once the Windows XP logo came up the screen started to show pixelated horizontal lines going across the screen. It was clear after a while that it wasn?t going to load properly so I turned it off. I then loaded it up.
The power light and the activity light came on but the screen remained blank and nothing loaded.

There was also very little noise from the computer, I would expect there to be some kind of noise coming from it during this phase. I have tried turning on the computer again just before sending this and only the power light is coming on now and it is still not loading.

Does anyone know what the cause of this could be? Or have any ideas at all?

I am quite skilled at building desktop computers, not so much laptops, but am willing to try taking apart the laptop to see if I can find anything that might be wrong.

Where would be a good place to start?

Russ

Regarding to your message, for me it looks like the graphic card would give up.
Pixilated horizontal lines could be one sign which would confirm my assumption.

I?m afraid this could be a serious hardware malfunction? :(
The graphic card chip is fixed on the motherboard and in such case the motherboard must be replaced?
?and this could be a costly affair because the motherboard is one of the expensive notebook parts!!!

However, these are only my personal assumptions and if you want to be 100% sure what?s wrong with your notebook then a notebook technician should check the hardware parts?

The history of my problem would be too long and tedious, I will just say that I erased all (thanks KillDisk, it works very well ) my hard drive and it is now whiter than white! I so cannot boot in any way whatsoever: every time I get the message "Not bootable disk, change it and type any key to continue." (as if I could exchange my laptop hard drive to another! ).
It is likely that I destroyed a boot firmware that I have to reinstall but which one and how? ...
If anyone can help me to restore my boot , I thank him(her) by advance.
Sincerely, Michael.

Answer:Boot Satellite C50-A-1-JM

Sorry, no help but I have one of these less than 2 years old and after the last Tempro update "ready for windows 10" it became very slow, after shutting down it just went into a "recovery/automatic repair cycle" on every restart no matter how long it was left running or turned off in between restarts.
Prior to taking a hammer to it (I have purchased something else) I switched it on one more time and eventually it started to display the "no bootable device - please restart" message. Tried restart and every time after the "Toshiba leading innovation" screen it goes "checking media" then "no bootable device - please restart" - seems to be a common fault judging by the number of post about it on the web.
Shame as my old Toshiba Equium, although showing its age now, had been running 24/7 for pretty much all of the last 9 years with no issues so cannot grumble about that one.
