I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
On this virtual way we cannot hear it and cannot say if this is normal or not but fact is that HDD produce clicking noise. It is not extremely loud but you can hear it.
Are you sure this noise comes from HDD. Does it click when HDD LED blinks?
Repost of question with link to problem, not mine but same noise.
Question is this normal

It sounds really bad. In my opinion you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can check it and, if necessary, exchange the HDD.
3 more repliesHi there!
I helped my neighbour to find a new laptop, and the whole setup and startup.
We ordered a C670-11Q and it works really well, theres just one annoyance.
The disc makes some loud clicking noises, not like a dying or working disc. It's the same sound as when you turn of a disc, just much louder. I guess it's the "disc reading arm" that goes into it's safe position.
I don't know if this laptop has a shock sensor to do this? The laptop was sitting flat on the table, and there where NO vibrations while it's doing it. There are no clicks while under load, but they occur randomly while idling or normal surfing/writing.
I also checked power saving options and disabled them to turn of the disc, no help.
This also seemed weird, because the clicks often occur several times in a row. But it definitely does it more when running on battery.
I'm running the newest BIOS and drivers from the support area (as of yesterday).
The disc is set to performance mode, i didn't test battery saving - should i?
And no, the disc hasen't taken any beating. I was the first person to turn it on.
The drive is from Hitachi, i ran their analysis - no errors.
Any help is greatly appreciated :o)
> The disc makes some loud clicking noises, not like a dying or working disc. It's the same sound as when you turn of a disc, just much louder. I guess it's the "disc reading arm" that goes into it's safe position.
One of my notebook?s HDD makes such noise too.
I?m not exactly sure why but I think also that this is the disks head which moves into save position.
However, I think that this is not really a malfunction since the notebook runs pretty well and I didn?t notice any problems with the HDD or the files? but I created a backup of my files? just to be safe ? you know?
I think you should backup the date just to be safe?
Hi,
I have just got a Satellite C670. Overall I am happy with it, but it makes a strange "popping"noise every 5 mins or so.
It seems to come from the right hand side under the number pad.
It does not seem to affect performance.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Stuart
Hi
Maybe it is a noise coming from the HDD.
Sometimes I can hear a similar noise on my non-Toshiba notebook.
This appears since the HDD upgrade?
Usually it?s nothing serious? so I think you don?t need to be afraid
Hello, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y410P that has recently been making a lot of noise, I figured it was a problem with the fan since I haven't cleaned it since I bought it (March 22nd 2014). I go on and open up the computer after reading a few guides and I went on to find out that my fan isn't that dusty. It had very small amount of dust on it but I still went on to clean it, everything around it, made sure I didn't screw it tightly. I screw the laptop back together and everything is fine. I start it up and its extremely quite. I thought I fixed it, until it started making even LOUDER noise and the whole laptop is shaking. I have no clue what to do now. The fan wasn't exactly dirty but I still went on to clean it with ear buds and tissues, didn't use compressed air or any of that sort. The laptop IS NOT overheating, its actually in very stable heat and the CPU is running at 1-5%. Please help me get rid of this annoying noise.
Hi DeluxeM ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
As what you have described " making even LOUDER noise and the whole laptop is shaking " , it would always be best to have it check by a service technician .
If you have done all basic steps , then best to identify the part that cause the noise by physically locating it with an open chassis / cover.
Things to check is the type of noise and location . You may use the manual as reference .
You may want to decide removing parts like the harddrive , battery and optical drive / additional tray that can help isoate the source of the vibration and noise.
Update us how it goes.

Whats the best way to stop this? like the title says, its summer soon for me and i need something to keep my computer very cool and less noisy. I have a Hp pavilion computer and wanted to know whats the best way for my computer to get the cooling it needs, thanks for any help
There is nothing you an do in Windows to cool or quiet it down.........well except for the program speedfan, you can download that and let the installation screw up your windows installation, but really............
Try going to into the bios and turn off CPU fan controll or the like, this lets the heatsink fan run normally constantly and not let it fun at full loud speed at times.
The only way to really cool it down is to open it up and see what you have internally. you can get a can of compressed air and blow off all dust buildups.
You can replace the heatsink with a better quieter one, get faster quieter case fans etc. You can go to a PC service shop and have them install those for you if you dont know how to.
If you have a computer with really unique parts that aftermarket heatsinks cannot fit on, then you dont have many options but to get an air conditioner.
I recently bougth the HP Envy x360 as my previous computer decided to die at the beginning of finals week. I love this computer already and everything is working correctly, let me just clarify that right now. What is bugging me is this random audible click that doesn't come from the speakers. It doesn't always happen, but when it does it is a single noisey click. Then several hours go by before it happens again. So my question is: what the hell is causing the click? Also, any recommendations for a stylus? I need something for doodling and note taking. Cheers!
More repliesLogitech speakers started making loud clicking noise throug sub wolfer, confirmed speakers are ok on other machine. Tried speakers on front headphone jack and seemed ok. Possible bad sound board? Believe sound board is part of mother board?
More repliesI have a new x120e 0596a28 - a few weeks old now and generally running fine. Once in a while, I hear a faint "clunk" sound, which is not too unpleasant, really, but indicates that something mechanical is re-setting. Once in a rare while, though, I hear a really loud clunk, not unlike a billard ball clunking into a pocket. Are these sounds from the HDD? I notice no performance loss right now, so whatever the faint (often) and loud (rare) clunks are, they are currently benign. Any other X series ThinkPad users notice these clunks? I googled around a bit and read about potential HDD issues etc. related to such noises, but could conclude nothing, so thought that this forum might be the best place to look for answers.Cheers!

Hi,
I have a strange thing going on with my fan, she keeps making a loud noise despite the laptop is cool.
What is even stranger is when i play a game, the laptop become hotter of course and the fan start turning with high speed but with a normal noise, it almost disappears after 15min gaming or so..
and when i close the game the laptop starts to cool down and the fan starts to be loud.
btw, i opened the laptop, and i cleaned the every component, i disassembled the fan and cleaned it, it wasn't that dirty since the laptop is almost two years old, but i didn't renew the thermal paste in the cpu or the graphic card. but i dont think that matters since the laptop is cool when the fan is being noisy.
I have a new Satellite Radius laptop it is about 3 weeks old. the laptop fan nosie has become very loud and sounds like - pretty loud - bee in flight. Can anything be done, iits so loud that the laptop is almost unusable. Is this a common Toshiba issue, I did not notice the noise until today, I think it has suddenly become very loud
More repliesHi ,
I have a strange thing going on with the fan, it makes a loud noise when the laptop is at cool temperature.
Other strange thing is when i open a demanding app like games, the laptop starts to be hotter of course and the fan became to her normal sound. when i close the game, the laptop gets cooler and the noise of the fan cameback.
i opened the laptop and i cleaned the components, such as the fan, and nothing has changed.
since the temperature is low i dont think i have to change the thermal paste in the cpu and the gpu.
tldr; loud strange noise of fan when laptop is cool, and a normal sound while opening a demanding app.
Hello,
I just purchased the Toshiba Satellite Z830 - 10J and am very surprised by the loud fan noise!
I read on other forums that the noise might be louder depending on the device or that a BIOS update might help slowing down the fan activity when the laptop is running idle. Does someone know if there is a remedy to the fan noise?
For me it is really impossible to work with such an ongoing noise!!!
Thank you for your help.
At the moment don?t think about BIOS update.
What you should try at first is to change ?Cooling method settings?.
Open power profile that you use (probably Balanced) > Advanced power options > Toshiba Power Saver Settings > Cooling Method and change both options to ?Battery Optimized?.
It should reduce cooling fan activity.
I bought L555-12V at MediaMarkt two days ago. The fan noise is terribly loud.
The fan turns at 70-80% with a CPU load of just 2 or 3 % when just surfing with firefox and no other open programs.
It sounds like a hair-drier. It's so loud you can't stand to be near the laptop for more than 10 minutes. This makes it impossible to work with.
I have tried everything. Uninstalled unnecessary software, altered the Windows power profiles, changed the Toshiba Power Saver settings; on ?maximum performance? the fan never turns off and on ?battery optimized? the fan is off for a minute then on at an incredibly loud 80% for a minute and so on. On/Off.
Is anyone else having these problems with fan noise?
Is this the same problem that A500 owners had with the BIOS 1.20 on their machines?
Will there be a BIOS update for the L555-12V like there was for the A500?
This cured their fan noise fault. At present there is no new BIOS posted on the support page.
If not I will have to take the laptop back for a refund. I would find that a shame as the laptop seems otherwise fine. However this machine is unusable for any length of time in it's current state.
> changed the Toshiba Power Saver settings; on ?maximum performance? the fan never turns off and on ?battery optimized? the fan is off for a minute then on at an incredibly loud 80% for a minute and so on. On/Off.
maximum performance means that the cooling modules would run with full power. This means that the fan will run always!
battery optimized means that the cooling fans will start to rotate only if the temperature would reach an certain level? therefore the cooling modules goes off if the temperature would decreases and would start again if the temperature level would increase?
> Will there be a BIOS update for the L555-12V like there was for the A500?
Who knows? I have checked the Toshiba European driver page and didn?t find an BIOS update for L555-12V (PSLWSE) series? I found a BIOS only for PSLW8E series?
However, I think you should wait a little bit and should check the driver page in the next time? maybe new BIOS would be available?

Hello
Today I was playing my games, as usual until my laptop starting making very, very loud buzzing noises. I instantly turned off the laptop. Left if for a bit and turned back on. Again, extremely loud noises. I'm scared to turn it back on now. Im thinking it's the fan as that is where the noise is coming from but I can't be sure.
Any advice on what to do? Any one else had this problem?
Thanks
Frozensin
On this virtual way we cannot say for sure what the problem is but I can imagine that cooling fan is responsible for this.
From the first moment when you switch your notebook ON cooling fan is active so I would like to know if you can hear this noise from the first second after start-up.
Is there some other kind of vibration?
Of course it is also interesting to know if your notebook has valid warranty or not. If yes I strongly recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help.
They can order and exchange cooling vent.
HiWhen I close the screen of my T410s there is a loud audible clunk sound from the bottom right support bracket. It seems like the screen is a little loose at the bottom right support as there is "give" or movement at that joint.Has anyone come across this before and can they advise how to get this fixed? Thanks
more likely it is a hinge issue. Do you have warranty still?
3 more repliesHello,
Recently my laptop cooling fan started running continously with a loud noise. When the screen is idle it stops for few sec and starts again. I have changed the power options to balanced in control panel but it didnt work. Even the BIOS is the latest one. Refering to discussion forums I have changed to 'selective start up' thru 'msconfig' but nothing worked.
It is 8 months old. The noise is very disturbing. Can anyone please help me in this regard?
Many Thanks
Sammy
Hi buddy,
> Refering to discussion forums I have changed to 'selective start up' thru 'msconfig'
I never heard about something like this?
Have you already tested it with battery optimized cooling method? Balanced power profile uses also maximum performance for cooling so you have to edit the power profile and choose battery optimized cooling for every power profile on battery and AC adapter. An information about all power plan options you can find here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD84026Q0000R01.htm
You wrote that your notebook is already 8 months old. Did you clean it in the past?
Hello,
yesterday I have buy the Satellite P200-1ft.
The problem: the second harddisk is very loud.
I never heard a notebook that is so loud like this thing, it's never normal.
Can I send the harddisk to toshiba or must I send the complete Notebook to reclame the harddisk?
Hi Uli
You cannot send only a notebook part to the Toshiba authorized service provider.
If you think something is wrong with the HDD then you have to contact the ASP in your country and the guys should be able to help you.
But note; if the HDD is loud then this doesn?t mean that there is a hardware malfunction.
My HDD clicks and makes some noises since 3 years but it runs well, without any troubles?

Hello, My name is Maria and I am from Moscow.
I have purchased this laptop (Toshiba Satelite L 670-15) on 16th of december 2010 and from the very beginning I had problems with it. Before I managed to install any programs, it said to me: " There isn't enough memory", I couldn't install important updates and software was working very slow. I took it to the service center RSS and by warranty they changed a harddrive there and reinstalled Windows.
Later, approximately in a month, my laptop began to get hot, very bad, like iron and to turn off. My friend cleaned and blew the laptop with a canned air. First three weeks it worked good, then the problem repeated. Before the end of my warranty period left not so many time and I took it to the service center again.
They took my laptop and said: "Your laptop is getting hot, it needs to be cleaned, it is not warranty fixing and it will cost 1750 rubles (about 54 dollars). Is it normal? Why at least on the warranty period you can not offer me a free fixing? In the service center I was told, that there was no any other problems, except of dust, but I'm always using my laptop at home, it's very clean here and no dust, I use the laptop, according to user's manual and I don't understand how in such a short period of time it's getting so dirty, that I can not work on it!
I need this laptop for my work, but service center took my laptop for more, than 2 weeks, though I refused from paid fixing. After that I sen... Read more
>They took my laptop and said: "Your laptop is getting hot, it needs to be cleaned, it is not warranty fixing and it will cost 1750 rubles (about 54 dollars). Is it normal?
I?m afraid the ASP is right and this is not warranty case?
> I was told, that there was no any other problems, except of dust, but I'm always using my laptop at home, it's very clean here and no dust, I use the laptop, according to user's manual and I don't understand how in such a short period of time it's getting so dirty, that I can not work on it!
It?s nothing unusual that notebook?s cooling fans needs to be cleaned from time to time. I do that with my two different notebooks from different manufacturers.
I use my notebook at home, the other while traveling and both needs to be cleaned. I use a simple compressed air spray to get the dust removed.
This is good enough to keep the cooling modules clean.
Here is a nice and useful document from Toshiba knowledge base:
+How to clean the cooling system of a Toshiba notebook+
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD7A01ZZ000AR01.htm
But if cleaning the cooling modules does not help, I would recommend changing the settings in power management of the Win 7.
Go to:
Changes in Operating System:
Control Panel --> Power Options --> Change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings --> Cooling Method
Here try the setting: Max performance.
Furthermore go to TOSHIBA HW Setup -->... Read more
Hi,
have bought few month's ago Toshiba Satellite U400 and everything was perfect and i just bought it because i do not like sounds.
When i surf on the net i like it to be quite, but these last 5 days it has started to sound.
Toshiba U400 works and it takes out to much "Air" from the side and just sound all the time, even if i open IE or MSN or anything, and before it just did sometime but now it does often.
Please help me because this is very annoying and it sounds to much, and i do not like it, why has this start to happend now and not before? and what can i do about it?
thnx.
Hi
What you can do?
Well, first of all you have to ensure that your cooling modules holes are free of dust.
I recommend using the compressed air spray in order to remove the dust from cooling grilles and fans.
In most cases the dust prevents the air circulation which causes a higher temperature and therefore fans would rotate faster.
Secondly you could change the power saver settings to ?more battery like?.
If you are using Win XP then you should check the Toshiba Power Saver.
There you could set the CPU processing speed and cooling performance to a lower level
Anyone had this? Machine only a couple of months old. Just desktop usage. Has happened about 3 times now.
Suddenly makes very loud noise - more like a road drill than anything else - then crashes.
Is this noise produced by cooling fan or HDD activity? Maybe both of them?
Of course it is not easy to say what is wrong there but I presume some background activity may be responsible for that.
Or have you noticed that some application that you use ends with system crash.
Hi,
I am using a u500-1dr..i have recently encountered this problem
The system hangs and the speaker emitted a screeching noise...i have to restart the system..after i restart I get a message in system tray area saying " intel rapidsahre technology service is not running" ...
Have you noticed this behaviour from the first day?
Have you tried to reinstall OS using HDD recovery option to see if these issues persist with ?factory settings??
Lately my HP Pavilion dv7 -6135dx has been making a popping noise from the speakers which is independent of both the laptop's set volume and the devices plugged into it. I have checked, and I'm certain that it's not the "Click of Death," as it's not consistent, comes from nowhere near my hard drive, happens independently of memory usage, and will sometimes cause my headphones to "dull" in volume for a brief second. SMART data checks via DiskCheckup also say my HD is working fine, though as I know, SMART isn't always reliable.
The sound comes either from my speakers directly, or from my speaker region at the back of the laptop. Covering the speakers muffles it, so I'm almost certain it's the speakers themselves. The only way I'm able to replicate this sound is to unplug an inserted audio device like a headset. Otherwise it happens at seemingly random intervals. As I said, it's not consistent, but it's happened multiple times in a row before. I think the highest string was five.
My device manager says that the drives are working fine, and this problem has only recently started in the past week or two. I haven't updated my drives recently (at least that I'm aware of) so I don't think it's that either. Google's been of little help as well. The laptop's not even a year old, but it sees a heavy amount of use.

Hello,
The hard drive has started to make a buzzing noise on my A30, I guess this is not good news, i.e. it is Kaput?
I downloaded HDDLife which tells me the hard drive is all ok, but I don't feel very confident.
I have backed up everything, and am thinking about a replacement hard drive.
So I have two Q's:
Should I get a new hard drive?
& if so, then would one of these be compatible?

Thanks
Hi
These are not great news.
3 month ago my HDD went dead. It was a simply head crash.
A day before it happened I have noticed strange sound coming from notebook inside.
But I was not sure if it?s a HDD sound.
So day after I wanted to start the notebook but? the BIOS has not recognized the HDD.
So I have replaced a hdd and all was ok.
So take care. Maybe the same will happen to you.
I don?t know if the 80GB will work but as far as I can remember some A30 was delivered with a 40GB HDD.
SO maybe you will be able to use a 60GB but I?m not sure about the 80GB. You have to test it, you know?
PS. The notebook should support the enhanced IDE (ATA-5) interface
Hi.
I'v just bought a toshiba u400-15.
It seems to have a problem in a key of the touchpad.
After pushing the left key, it makes a sort of "click" when it goes up.
The right key doesn't make this sound. Is it normal?
Thank you.
Bye. Valerio
Hi
It looks like a mechanical touchpad button issue.
I think in your case only a touchpad button replacement would be a real option ?
What do you think about this opinion?
I think the ASP help is needed and therefore you should contact the ASP in your country for a touchpad test?
But is this issue really so annoying? I mean the technician would replace this but you will have to send the notebook and should wait a time until this issue could be fixed.
Hello, I have a
Satellite A100-998
Part Number : PSAA9E-0PP044EN
My speakers make a horrible high pitched noise when the laptop is plugged into the AC power, but not on battery. It happens through my in-built soundcard, my external soundblaster card, and the headphones ports on both, and they all have the latest drivers anyway, so the problem is elsewhere. The noise doesn't show up on the windows output waves, i.e. muting everything doesn't stop it, nothing is "generating" the sound like a program running in the background.
Can anyone help? Here's a link to the noise, I recorded it with the headphone port linked to the microphone port, it's quite quiet, you might have to turn your speakers up to hear it. Link:[http://rapidshare.com/files/114859161/noise.mp3.html]
I'm guessing it's some sort of interference but I'm a software guy, I don't know about these sorts of things.
Thanks
Andy
I doubt software could cause that kind of thing, sounds like it could be an earthing issue or a component on the mainboard.
I'd take it to a service center and get them to have a look.
When talking to people on Skype and MSN people say that my microphone makes this strange noise. They can vaguely hear me over the noise. People say it is kind of like a gurgling noise.
At first I thought it would be a driver issue so using Device manager in windows I searched online for an update for my Realtek High Definition Audio and it told me the version was up to date.
I went from Vista to Windows 7 about 5-6 months ago, Maybe a problem occurred when i reinstalled my drivers? Any advice would be appreciated!
Computer specifications:
-Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
-Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7450 2.13GHz
4.00GB RAM (2.99 Usable)
Thanks in advance
Hello
Driver update could be useful in this case but the sound driver is not related to internal microphone. The internal microphone is a part of webcam so in this case I would recommend reinstalling the webcam driver from official Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
And don?t forget to check Windows sound settings. I would try to disable the microphone boost and reduce the microphone volume.
I have a Satellite 505 for about 6 month, and a few days ago the cooler started to make strange buzzing noise when it works on high RPM rate. It didn't fell, got shaked, nothing.
Is there any way to fix it (maybe clean it?) without taking it to the support lab?
Firstly try the easiest way - clean it.
7 more repliesI don't know if this is maybe normal but I think my charger did not make this noise a few month ago.
I got my Satellite R630 14J in November 2010.
Since some weeks my charger beeps (a very high constant noise) when my notebook gets charged or even when the charger is plugged in into the computer.
Does anyone else has the same issue or know if this is a case for the support of Toshiba?
Thanks for response
Nicolas
Hi
The high constant noise could be caused by broken AC adaptor cable.
Such noise is usual for power and appears mostly if an cable or AC adaptor is faulty.
I think you should test a new AC adaptor.
Good luck
Does anyone know how I can activate the "click" noise that you get when you click on links? I can't find an option for it in the firefox settings.
I am using Firefox 3.0.4.
I've been having this laptop for long time and i decided to power it up a bit and buy new pair of RAM memorry. I checked the motherboard model and swa it requires DD3L 800 or 1066 Hz ram memmory up to 8 gb. Therefore i bought 1066 hz 2x4 GB DD3 memmory asumming it is compatible. However i noticed it doesnt work on windows 64 bit while it works on windows 10 32 bit operating system... The 64x os just wont boot and goes into boot loop.
Is it possible that the memory isnt compatible? Can you suggest me some solutions?
My laptop has died - the motherboard no longer works - and I have advertised it for sale for parts/spares.
I have been offered ?30 for it.
Is this a good deal? Should I accept?
Any thoughts would be good.
Thanks.
Hi all,
My Satellite notebook (C670-12x) does not recognize any hard drives (bios startup). I tried with several hard drives. I was wondering if a Bios update would help? Is there a Flash Bios update for CD boot?
I allready tried to convert the Bios driver to an image/bootable CD, but that didn't work.
Thanks in advance,
Gunther
I don?t think BIOS update will help. Try to set BIOS to default settings and check it again. If the same happen again it can be that HDD controller is defective.
2 more repliesHi all,
I have a C670-19K for a while now
http://www.toshiba-greece.com/suppor...oduct/laptops/ ( Greek web site for info about the laptop )
Have upgrade it a bit : 8gb ram and new ssd things are running little bit faster now, bought a cooling pad 17 inch ( 2x160mm fans spin at 1000rpm ) that doesn't do much work on Toshiba armor, have clean and change the thermal paste over time at CPU and GPU, have clean as well the fan + the thermal metal body part , battery have died over time haven't replace that !
I recently made a format ( yesterday ) and today decide to have a further look in my gaming section to see if everything is alright, i have a application to counts the temperature to make sure i`m running good without issues when gaming or multitasking
Before the format i have seen numbers up to 99c with out making the laptop BBQ, but for safety reasons it was turning off which fine for me
After format when it reach 84~85c computer is turning off for safety reasons !!
Am i missing a specific driver that i didn't add ? And which is that ? Can u provide a link for this ?
Did have a look at the web
Bios doesn't have adjustment for temperature
Have formatted the laptop sometime ago and it worked fine afterwards
Have installed the drivers from Toshiba web-site in order to run the laptop
Thanks for your time !!
Hi.
My satellite c670 has an i3-2310M as you can see here :
http://www.toshiba.co.il/en/disconti...lite-c670-145/
My question is : I would like to knox if I can upgrade it, which CPU are compatible?
On this list there are lot of CPU with the same socket, but I know that it depends of the motherboard too :

So, wich CPU are compatible with my laptop?
Thank you.
Hello
First I should say hello to all on forum.
I am having difficulty loading xp on to my Satellite C670. I have tried to find drivers for the sata, no luck, so I can F6 as I load xp, also gone into bios and set to compatibility. No luck at all yet.
Does anyone know the correct drivers I need and also how to do it.
Thanks

Hello
Which C670 do you have exactly?
Toshiba offers 10 different models (different part number).
I specifically bought the Toshiba Satellite (my fourth in a row) to take advantage of the lovely harmon/kardon speakers.
I find that the volume is going loud and soft all the time, specifically going softer when there appears to be something in the music (or whatever Im listening to) that would normally go louder. It's almost as if it is trying to 'normalise' the volume. Whatever is happening, it sounds terrible.
I've done a quick search on thee forums and I can't see a solution. I have seen on the greater internets (simply google Toshiba loud soft" and it pops up) someone else with the same problem.
I've messed around with the sound for hours at a time and had absolutely no luck.
I'm at my wits end. Can some please help me?
Have you discovered "Smart Audio" in your control panel? - I no nothing about what it does but there are lots of icons and sliders to play with!
I also know that my "Windows Update" has nvidia high definition audio driver -August 09 sitting there as an optional update
Good morning,
I have a problem with two Satellite C670 laptops. Neither of them will not be charged, it only works when plugged into the mains.
What happen when you start notebook without battery and put the battery in place when Windows OS is fully loaded?
Is battery recognized properly?
Is battery LED on?
Hello,
First time on any forum.
How can I reset my C670-15F 17" Laptop to the `Out of box` state (Factory settings) ?
I have been told to use the F8 key but this only turned off the Wireless Adaptor!
I have already backed up my photos and documents.
Is there anything else I should do or problems to watch out for?
Please couch any responses in easy language as I am by no means completely computer literate.
Many thanks,
David

i have found preinstalled on my laptop the face recognition.i wonna youse it.
i think i have updated the drivers...
i have try the link.but it wont help me.
Do you use your notebook with original preinstalled OS (WIN7 64BIT HOME PREMIUM)?
Sorry but I don?t understand why you cannot use it.
Can you start this application or not? What is the problem?
Is webcam recognized and installed properly in device manager?
I bought my laptop one month ago. And now I have problems.
1.) Some days ago he didn't charge. (Battery not found).... after two hours it was OK.
2.) Now, when he is plug in it's Fully charged (100%), when I unplug cable - 98%.
3.) Time after time i see *"blue screen"*, troubles with RAM. I know that it's not good.
Maybe somebody can help?
Hello
1) Does it happen again and again?
2) This is, in my opinion, nothing that you should be worried about.
3) You are right, that?s not good. I don?t know what happen exactly but what you can do is to install recovery image again and test functionality with ?factory settings? again. If the same happen again and again I recommend you to contact Toshiba service and ask for help.
I have Laptop: *SATELLITE C670-17M*
My processor: *Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B950 @ 2.10GHz, 2100 MHz*
My Chipset is: *Mobile Intel? HM65 Express Chipset*
So, If you look http://ark.intel.com/products/52808/Intel-BD82HM65-PCH and click *Compatible products* http://prntscr.com/27avin you can see all compatible processors that you can use with this chipset right?
My question is, Can I upgrade my current processor with all of processors on that list? http://prntscr.com/27awsp
Thanke you,
Rok
> My question is, Can I upgrade my current processor with all of processors on that list?
Probably yes.
But fact is that nobody would be able to answer this question since such CPU upgrade isn?t officially supported. This means that notebook manufacturers don?t provide any information regarding such upgrade and compatibility.
You can try such upgrade at your own hand and hope that BIOS would be able to handle such new CPU.
Satelilite c670 - 188 WOW shutdown after 20 - 30 minutes game.
my notebook shutdown cpu temperature 86-90 degrees.
I used to play normally. Now your computer is overheating!
the laptop is on the stands with fans!!!
Hi
It seems high temperature causes this unexpected shut down.
Did you use the notebook on the table?
There should be enough free space to keep the air circulating.
Furthermore you should check if the cooling fans are not clogged by dust or debris.
This might affect the air circulation too? I clean my fans from time to time and this keeps the temperature low.
What graphic card driver do you use?
You should use the Toshiba one because such driver is modified for mobile usage? the other drivers don?t support an GPU overheating protection and this might cause such unexpected shutdowns.
I'm confused. On one part of the Toshiba site it says my laptop is supported for upgrade but somewhere else, it isn't listed.
Can anyone tell me if I can upgrade safely and what, if any, Toshiba drivers will I need to reload. I'm not very technically minded so hope you can answer this without too much tech-speak. LOL
Check please Toshiba Win8 support page on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/windows8-message and Toshiba Compatibility Matrix.
Is your notebook listed there?
Hello,
If I start up my toshiba satellite c670-13q laptop, I get an black screen.
It just starts up in a normal way, but after it started up it shows a black screen. I still hear the windows sound by starting up and later also the sound of Skype if it started up.
I got alot of important stuff on my laptop so please help me fixing this.
Thank you.
Another example of customer support! My kid bought one of these but we cannot fathom out how to insert the @ into text, despite the more or less useless User Guide and searching the internet, my kid has a Toshiba with which she cannot send an email!
Or are we just stupid, after 9 hours of trying we certainly feel stupid?
Hi buddy,
This has nothing to do with customer support.
I think you have set the wrong keyboard language. If you press Shift + i you should get the @ sign?
Important is that you change the language from EN (US) to EN (UK). You can do this if you navigate to control panel > clock, language and regional > regional and language options. Go to keyboards and languages tab and then click change keyboards. Click Add and select the keyboard layout you would like to add.

Hello,
Since I upgraded to Windows 10 in my TOSHIBA SATELLITE C670-14W my graphic card (Intel HD 3000) don't work propely on Video Editing Softwares and Games. I contacted the Intel Support and they rudely answered that they will not release any new drivers for my Graphic Card for Windows 10 and that I have to buy a new graphic card or roll back to Windows 7 (but the month is gone). They said that for help on which graphic card I should choose compatible with Windows 10, I need to contact my OEM support but as my pc is discountinued I can't ask the support; so I ask you: the community. What new Graphic card (compatible with Windows 10) should I choose compatible for my PC to have a similar/improved gaming/software performances ?
The DxDiag.txt file (attachment) has all my PC setting.
Thank you for your help.
A few months agi i recieved 2 Toshiba's Satelite C670-12P with cracked screens.
so after finally recieving new screens and everything working fine 1 of the laptops
is locked with a password at the startup, Now normally this wouldnt matter
becouse a simple cmos reset isnt that much work but after noticing this did not
do the job as supposed i arrived at the next step shorting the jumpers (wich btw
dissapeared from the motherbord) so after disassembling the entire thing for a good
clean. Still couldnt find nothing..., now a bit later and alot of research later i learned
that the only way to get what i want (the laptop in a out of the box state) is to magicly
clear the password what is stored on 1 of the chips wich does not require a cmos battery anymore
so my question is what to do now becouse symp[tons are very very nasty
Can not boot to windows
Cant boot from cd/usb
Cant acces bios
So if anyone still has got some ideas left, please let mek now becouse im getting desperate.
Hello,
So sorry I'm french so excuse me for my english.
I have a tremendous problem.. Last week I installed Windows 10 on my computer (my PC said "clic here to install). I've done it and ta the end A big bleu screen appeared and said "program should stop now in order to don't crash your computer" ...
So now my computer boots and reboots all long day... I see the beginning "Toshiba" and after it is a dark screen. I tried to reinstall Windows 7 but the computer says that my HDD is reserved to toshiba (why?) my second and my third partition too! So no system, no Windows, no data. I tried to launch Windows 10 in a "bootable" USB flash memory, it works, my computer says "clic here to reboot" and when it reboots in the screen i can read " Windows meets a problem of communication with a "p?riph?rique" connexion belong to your computer" thanks Windows !!!! :-(
I made a HDD recovery CD lats year, i tried it. The CD works perfectly and when my computer reboots it looks like nothing happened! My computer boots and reboots ... !!
My pc is a satellite c670 18F ..; if someone has any solution, i will try.. Thank you..

Does the Satellite C670 14P have a line in option through the mic/headphone sockets.
The problem is am trying to record a dj mix using a recording program but each time a recording is done it sounds like it is being recorded through the laptop speakers and not through the soundcard. I have my mixer plugged into the laptop using a phono to 2.5 jack lead I have both the mic and the headphone sockets but either make any difference to the sound.
Can someone please help me.
I don?t know what do you mean with line-in on mic socket. Fact is that you can connect headset or mic on this jack and use it for conversation on Skype or any other similar messenger. You can also use it for voice recording using Windows sound recorder and it works perfectly.
I don?t know what are you doing exactly and from which device you want to transfer this mix so it is not easy to help.
Can you please post more info what are you doing exactly? Can you connect this device using USB port?
I have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE C670-10P and the motherboard has died.
I have put it on eBay to sell as not working/for spares & parts. I have been offered ?30 plus postage.
Is this a good offer? Should I accept? I don't know how much I could expect to get.
Please let me know asap!
Thanks.
Hello Support,
Quite recently I have noticed that the clock / time (displayed in the system tray) of my Satellite C670-12P is going crazy, typically slowing down a bit, but sometimes jumping backwards in time by one hour or even more ! The biggest leap was more than 3 hours backwards... As you can imagine the OS (Windows 7 Home Premium) doesn't like that much and I've had to suffer possibly related hangs.
After some googling it seems that it might be related to an aging CMOS battery (which i've never replaced indeed). After some more youtubing I have learned how to unmount the keyboard under which the CMOS battery would probably be located (as seen on the similar Satellite C series' video). To my greatest surprise, however, unmounting the keyboard of the laptop only revealed a "hole" in the plastic board with some connector, but not the expected CMOS battery -- see attached picture I took and red circle where I was expecting it.
Am I going down the wrong path here ? How can I make sure that it is a weak CMOS battery the root cause of the clock / time going crazy ?
Once that's proven, where is it actually located in the C670-12P and can I easily replace it ? I've seen that sometimes its soldered on the motherboard!
Thanks in advance for your advice and assistance !
Hey,
I wanted to reinstall Windows on my Girlfriends machine. I started into the Bios and I tried to find the setting to boot from a USB device but I couldn't find it. I somehow stupidly set all the settings in bios to manufacturer defaults and after restarting the screen stayed black.
I can boot but I can't do anything. I can't enter the bios, I don't see anything.... Is it bricked? I hope you guys can help us because she will most likely kill me :(
We need your help! It is important!
8 more repliesHi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me?
The screen on my C670 works but has visible damage and a lot of dead pixels,
I have bought two replacement screens but have been unable to get them to work any more than the backlight coming on.
Both replacements have been returned to where they were purchased and been tested and found to be working fine, I am now at a loss at what to do next...
I don't really understand what could be wrong that both replacements didn't work but my original works fine....surely if there was an issue with the connector my screen wouldn't work either?
My screen is a LP173WD1(TL)(N1) and the replacements were N173FGE - L23 and LP173WD1(TL)(E1) which I was assured were both compatible with my machine.
Thanks in advance

Hi
As far as I know there are different Satellite C670 series.
I found some details regarding the PSC3SE, PSC3NE, PSC3LE, PSC3QE sub-models.
It looks that the LCD module 17.3" W HD+ (1600 x 900px) uses a LED backlight as the light source.
So you should be sure that you are using the right one.
I don?t think that the display controller on the motherboard would be faulty because in such case the original display would not work too.
The LCD display and motherboard are connected by inverter cable, inverter board and
LVDS cable. You should make sure the LVDS cable is firmly connected to motherboard.
If the connection is loose, reconnect firmly and restart the C670 notebook.
Hello,
I tried to install a bios upgrade on a C670-16E but I receive the following message

Do you try to install this BIOS update?
It is 2.30 Win version.
Hi. I have a C670 which I had problems starting up. I tried the back up discs I had created when i got the machine but they failed to work. I had an extended warranty with the company I had bought the laptop from and I sent it back to them to get the problem sorted. As the back up discs didn't work, all they have done is reinstall windows and I've lost all the bundled software and the HDD recovery system on the D drive which come on the machine.Lesson to learned here I think.
If I was to buy a set of toshiba back up discs would this take the machine back to its 'out of the box' condition.
Thanks in anticipation
> If I was to buy a set of toshiba back up discs would this take the machine back to its 'out of the box' condition.
Yes. You can order original recovery discs on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
Hello!
I have a Toshiba Satellite C670. I would like to upgrade FIRMWARE driver of the optical unit.
Please advise me where I can get the update.
Characteristics dvd / cd-rom:
DVD RW: TSSTcorp CDDVDW Ts-L633A TO01
Version: 6.1.7601.17514
class of CD-ROM
manufacturer: "Standard CD-ROM drives"
OS: Windows 7 64bit
If you please to help.
Greetings
You can update the firmware ONLY if newer version has been released for this drive.
There was an firmware update for CD/DVD drives *TS-L633C* and *TS-L633Y* as mentioned here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9C02RP0000R01.htm
But for *TS-L633A* there is NO firmware update available.

I wanted to update my display card (Intel HD Graphics 3000), then i went on Intel for the update and he told me that "A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues.
Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer" .
After, i went on Toshiba Drivers and search the driver, but the version of my display card was equal than your driver, since 4 years that there is not update and the latest update of Intel HD Graphics 3000 is 15.28.22.64.3517 (10/04/2014)
Why Toshiba did so not updated the graphics card?
Drivers update for mobile machines is pretty limited and it is big difference between mobile machines and desktops.
Due to specific design and cooling system that machine has GPU must be ?under control?. With new driver GPU can offer more performance but result is more heat that can be dangerous for notebook?s hardware.
This is the reason why notebook manufacturers don't offer such updates and offer just adapted display drivers. If you try to download driver from GPU manufacturer directly there is always a indication to use driver from notebook manufacturer?s support page.
Hi,
Please, where can I find Windows 7 32-bit drivers for Satellite C670-13D Part # : PSC40E-004008RU.
I need "Value Added Package" for activate hotkey function.
Thank's.
Hi
Seems not all Win 7 32bit drivers are available for the C670 at this time.
Since the VAP is not related to specific notebook series but to the system (Win 7 or Vista) you can use the VAP released for other series?
I recommend checking the C660 series and to download the VAP released there.
CD/DVD- rom player TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633F of my Toshiba Satellite C670-12P is not working anymore.
I'v tried several CDs, with pictures, DVD and music CD also storage CD and it opens as if I load a new empty CD only asking me options to format or make a new disk.
But all the disk I load in my player are already written with data and not rewritable.
In my system I can see all is working correct, but it is not true. I can't read any disk now and I don't know how to fix it .
I tried already with windows fix it, but it could not fix the problem.
So I realy don't no my options. I found also not a solution on the site of Toshiba itself and I'm really disapointed in it. I don't use often my player but now and then I like to play a dvd to watch. Also my back ups I made wil not be working after all.
I don't know if the problem is known by other users and if there is a solution for me.
My system is windows 7
Thank you for reading and hopefully someone has a solution for me.
Sorry for the bad English, I'm a bit stressed by the problem but hope you can understand after all.

All work as well with an usb keyboard.
The problem comes since the cat sleep on the keyboard :)
Do you have an idea ?
Sorry for my bad english
Thanks a lot
Have a nice evening

> All work as well with an USB keyboard.
For me it sounds like the keyboard would be faulty.
The point is that if the USB keyboard is OK then the issue cannot be related to the software settings.
So it has to be hardware fault.
Get in contact with an Toshiba ASP in your country and ask for a keyboard check and replacement

Hi everybody, I would like some help!
I recently bought a new fan to help with cooling as the summer approaches. My new fan replaces my old chassis fan but is plugged in slightly differently as it is plugged into the 3 pin mother board connector (the old one was plugged into the molex and is now positioned as an intake fan at the front).
My problem is that since I've installed the new fan my computer is actually louder than before, Everest tells me that the revs for the new fan are 5114 rpm as I type this so it's clearly working too hard. I think it's working too hard because my processor fan is only idling by comparison at 1705 rpm. Which temperature does the chassis fan use to control it's speed and why has my CPU fan suddenly become lazy since I installed the new fan? Is there anything I can do to make the CPU fan work harder and take some of the burden off of the chassis fan?
Many thanks for any help!
Noosentaal
Try speedfan, that should work.

Hi,
I got the same problem over the previous months when I play Football Manager 2011 on my Toshiba laptop.
The game needs a lot of CPU usage at some time (when I move step ahead, CPU and game create other teams results and create next news and so on) and it breaks after 1-2 hours of playing.
It gets louder and louder and thats all!
PC restarts automathically and I lost my time useless!
It might be overheating processor but I get this problems only while playing this game.
I can forget to play while listening to some music from Youtube or other source or having Skype chat in the background, then it remains only for couple of minutes and it restarts PC again and again.
Whats wrong ? Overheat or anything else ?
Maybe I just need to reinstall whole Windows or game (FM 2011) ?
I use: Toshiba C670-105 / Intel Cor i3 2,53 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Win 7 Home Premium, 64-bit SP1, 300 GB HDD, DirectX10, NVIDIA GeForce 315M
My savegame is currently about 180 MB. And of course my laptop is above of minimal requirements to play this game.
Any hints ?
> Whats wrong ? Overheat or anything else?
Well, I think nobody would be able to say exactly why the unit shuts off without any further investigation.
Generally the notebook could power OFF due to high temperature and high temperature is mostly the reason for unwanted automatic shuts downs.
Did you ever clean the notebook?s cooling fans in the past?
No?! Probably the dust and debris inside the cooling modules prevent the fans from running with best performance and cause high temperature which leads to the shut down.
I would recommend you to use an compressed air spray in order to get rid of dust. But sometimes such cooling modules need to be cleaned professionally.
But try the compressed air spray firstly.
Today I upgraded to Windows 10. Everything seems to be working ok except my keyboard's strange behaviour.
When the Fn Key is NOT pressed:
(1) The keys 1,2 are not working at all
(2) The keys 3,4 adjust the volume
(3) Space key not working at all
(4) Function Keys behave normally (F1, F2 etc)
When the Fn Key is pressed:
(1) Keys 1,2,3,4 work as nymbers
(2) Space key works as space
(3) Function keys are doing nothing
I tried uninstalling everything related to toshiba as well as pressing Fn for 10 seconds, Fn+Ctrl, Fn-Scroll lock and any other combination I could think of.
In the BIOS there is no option to disable the function keys.
In the HWSETUP there is no option as well
I would really welcome any suggestions. Thanx for your time.
Same problem with C670-15Q. solution appreciated

Principaly, I sorry for my bad English, but I French, and this post was traduce with google translate.
Here, for 2-3 days when I plug in my headphones on my PC and I'm trying to listen to music it does me lots of bass, the instrumental .. And bottom slightly you can hear the singer's voice. This is very annoying, because it is not terrible.
_Information Laptop_: Toshiba Satellite C670/C670D.
_Solutions I tried_: (In order of trial)
- Check if the problem does not come from the headset connector or cable.
****** Comment: The headset works perfect on my phone with the same music, or even on the Laptop of my little sister who is exactly the same as mine.
- Go to Control Panel> Sound> property on the sound output> Level> Balance> Reduce to 0% on the left or right.
****** Comment: The voice is back, I can hear the music perfectly, but now I hear a very strong side of the helmet, the difference between the two when I wear this sense the two "ear" headphones. More when I unplug my headphones, I can hear more than one side of the speakers integrated Laptop.
- Check the option "Voice Cancellation" is not checked in the property of her.
****** Comment: The option is not checked when the headset is plugged in and that one side is 0% as this is one I had not set to 0% one side.
- Make a system restore to a date prior to the problem.
****** Comment: The problem has occurred since 1/31/2013. So I'm back on the date of 2... Read more
> The problem has occurred since 1/31/2013
And what have you done at this day? Have you installed or changed something?
I mean the problem cannot occur for no reason.
I never had such problem and don?t know what can be the right solution but try to reinstall sound driver and please use driver from Toshiba download page.
Check it at first and post some feedback.
Hi all,
I made an upgrade to Windows 10 but after that my satellite notebank C670 has booting problems. It's always after Windows updates were installed. It shows the Win logo followed by a blue screen. After repeated switching on and off I get again to the login screen for the password. Have Windows 10 already reinstalled because I didn't come to the login screen anymore. But problems are still there only with switching on and off attempts it works. But this is not a solution. Have you any ideas - drivers for Win10 or bios? Thanks for help

Hi
Can you please provide more details?
What system do you use?
What happens exactly?
Are you able to recover the notebook using Recovery disk?
I have put a I7-2720 into my C670 and everything is working well. I had to use external cooling fans to keep the temp down but Ihad planned for that.
I'm just wondering if I should update my bios from the standard 1.40 that's recommended so that I can fully use all the features of a I7 qm CPU.
Thanks for any help
Hello
As far as I know Toshiba doesn?t support BIOS update and BIOS update has nothing to do with your update. BIOS update is designed to fix some issues or offer some additional options but it has nothing to do with CPU upgrade.
I hope everything will be OK with your notebook in the future. Be careful how do you use it. I presume that you know that after CPU upgrade every hardware failure and repair you must pay on your own.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C670, win7 64bit. I've had it for about a month. Monitor drivers are at the most recent available version.
I've recently noticed a problem with the monitor's gamma settings. On startup, the screen is brighter than it should be. When I go to monitor settings / colour improvements and I change gamma from its default 1.0 to, for instance, 0.9, I see the screen darken (considerably) in 2 distinct but fast steps. Changing the gamma back to 1.0 makes the screen go brighter in one (small) step, and the end result is darker than before I changed anything.
Increasing gamma to 1.1 or 1.2 also gives me a darker result than the "reported" gamma of 1.0 at startup; from my estimation, the gamma at startup is about the same as when I manually set it to 1.3.
However, when I set gamma to, for instance, 0.9, at startup the screen will be back at about 1.3 " real gamma" again. Ofcourse I could shuffle the gamma control back and forth every time I start up my laptop, so that gamma 1.0 is indeed as dark as it should be, but surely I shouldn't have to do this? I use the laptop mainly for photo editing so it's pretty important to my use of the laptop to have correct gamma.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Kind regards,
Bart
Hi
From my own experience every display supports different properties.
As far as I know monitor manufacturers store gamma, color information inside the monitors which is being used by the graphics card drivers.
For common usage its ok but for people who do imaging there are different tools which helps you to manage such settings.
I recommend you testing an tool called ?QuickMonitorProfile?
Its free and allows you to create the most commonly used working space profiles. It is also possible to create a monitor profile.
Google for this
Also Webcam seems to have no drivers installed....
Tried the lastest application/drivers from Toshiba but it does not install anything.
same problem but with C660-1MG... try everything!!!
1 more repliesHello. Any suggestions on how I can easily cut down on my fan noise? It sounds like there is a lawn mower in here. Please tell me I can just buy a new fan for my processor... or maybe it's the PSU that's so loud. Thanks!
Google SpeedFan.
It allows you to vary the speed of your internal fans. Mess around with it til you get a stable, low temperature and desired noise output.
Or, you could just buy new fans.
Hi,
I recently upgraded the ram in my pc from 1.5gb to 2.5gb as it seemed to be getting pretty slow. I was expecting a pretty big jump in performance but it doesn't seem to have happened.
The pc can sometimes be faster than it was and sometimes it really drags. There is also an intermittent loud noise which i believe is coming from the fan and when this happens the pc is slow.
I took out the fan and cleaned all the dust from it but this noise still starts every couple of minutes and the pc becomes slow.
Any ideas?
Two things to consider...
The amount of memory doesn't have much to do with speed unless some process can specifically use that extra memory. You can to more things well, but not necessarily more rapidly.
You system will utilize all memory at the speed of the slowest module. If you have some memory that is value ram or other inexpensive ram, the timings could be significantly different than the best brands and models.
Your system only uses what memory it needs, not what you want it to use. As long as the RAM meets the requirements of the motherboard, it will not protest.
If you want some programs to run at optimum performance levels, all memory must be identical. It is wise to buy matched sets of RAM from the same manufacturer at the same time to get the ultimate performance. Top memory is already sold in matched sets in the same plastic wrap. Otherwise, you have to look at the timings and other information posted on the package or the label.
I have a loud noise on PC or speakers after its been on a while and it comes on for short time every few minutes.. Its a noise that is hard to describe. Grand daughter says its a space sound, what ever that is.Its odd as when playing music its fine just comes on after pc has been on a bit. Also can't tell if its pc or speakers. Just got new monitor as mine worn out and was hoping it would go but hasn't, it started 3 weeks ago. I turn speakers right down to get away from it.
Is it a beeping sound? If so, can you count the beeps and does the sound repeat itself or is it just now and then.
9 more repliesI was working in the computer area one night. Of four computers, I was using two, one had been shut down for the night, and the last had been left on, but was unused.Suddenly the room was filled with a very loud noise. We are talking quite loud, almost like a fire alarm - uncomfortably loud to the ears. My first thought was an alarm on the UPS. I checked it, and it was fine. Then I thought maybe a fan bearing gone bad on one of the computers. I shut down the one not being used. Nothing. So then in spite of losing work, I felt it urgent enough to immediately shut down the two computers I was using. Nothing. So my next thought was fans in the room. Shut them down - nothing. Then I thought maybe the lights. Nothing. So my final thing was to unplug the computer that was already shut off - Bingo! What a surprise. I wasn't sure if the noise was from the computer or from the surge protector it was plugged into, so I ran an extension cord across the room. It ran fine about 3 days and then the noise came again, not quite as loud this time, but still loud.So I am thinking power supply or motherboard. The frequency and texture of the sound is the same as the squeal you get from the computer when you disconnect the power and the electricity drains from the system, except that that sound is mildly soft, but it gives you an idea of the nature of the sound. So I'm thinking maybe the motherboard is alarming me about something, but why so loud? And why continuous and won't go of... Read more
I got a dell dimension c521 and I notice at random times it has a really loud fan noise. Sounds like an airplane is about to take off or something? It usually happens if im playen video games and what not. I was wondering if this a bad thing or if its normal, and if theres anything I can do to prevent it from getting so loud? Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
The fan runs at full to extract the heat when playing. About the only thing that you can do is to open it up and clean out any dust that you can see.
. When i start playing games , theres a loud fan noise which is bothering me so much. Please help me
More repliesI recently started getting hearing a loud "buzzing" noise when I started my computer or it had to load certain larger programs. I opened up the computer to find which fan the noise was coming from and found no noise. The noise had stopped until just yesterday. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions.

Hello,
Recovery Media Creator will not start. Missing link error "TRMCLcher.exe"
I can not find the software on the Toshiba site!
Here's what the file contains Toshiba Recovery Media Creator:
http://hpics.li/6dfd626
Where can I find Toshiba Recovery Media Creator?
thank you
Richard
Toshiba recovery media creator cannot be downloaded from Toshiba download page. This tool is integrated in recovery image.
I really don?t understand how this exe file can disappear for no reason. With clean preinstalled recovery image it must work properly.
If you didn?t create recovery DVD there is only one way to get it work again: you must install whole OS using HDD recovery installation. After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again and this tool will work properly again.
How to use HDD recovery installation you can find on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
When I start my laptop I got this "Reboot and select proper Boot device" I can not find out how I should do.
More repliesI have been trying to connect this laptop with my Regsa Toshiba flat screen tv using an SGA/VGA 15 pin male to male connecting lead, without success. I receive a message at the bottom of the tv screen stating "Unsupported video format". I also have a Dell laptop and when I connect this up to the tv it works immediately, so does anybody have a solution? Before someone advises, use the Dell, it's my wife's and she requires to use it away from home regularly.
More repliesI was using my PC and all of the sudden it started making a loud almost rattling sound. I shut it off, waited a little and restarted it. It went away for a few minutes and then came back. I opened up the case to see if I could find where the noise was coming from and it seemed to be coming from one of the fans. I unplugged the power to that fan and now it is quiet again.
Do fans go bad? Is there a fix for this or do I just need to get a new fan?
Hi, when I bought my PC two years ago, it was silent, it barely made any noise. However, I later made a huge mistake. I opened the case to clean the inside of the computer with an air compressor, but while I was cleaning the fans I wasn't holding them so the air compressor made them spin faster than normal. Following that, every time I boot my PC now, it makes a loud noise and also the PC makes a lot of noise in general. A lot more than when I bought it, to a point where sleeping next to it when it is turned on is a hard thing to do. Now, I'm wondering if that mistake is the cause of the noise. When I look at the fans, they don't seem to be damaged at all. I have 3 fans: The case fan, the graphics card fan and the power supply fan. My PC is cleaned regularly so I know it's not dust or anything that's causing the problem.
Here's some interesting info: It only makes noise when it's booting after the computer has been turned off for more than 30 minutes. If it's less than that, it doesn't make the loud noise. I have no idea why. Also, about 3% of the time, the desktop doesn't get to fully load because the computer freezes. It's a problem that started at the same time the noise started. If it is indeed one or multiple fans that are broken, how can I know which one(s) is?
I made a video of when I'm booting the computer so you can hear and see what is happening.

You didn't tell us the brand and model of the computer.
Using an air compressor is very bad, because you risk the damage of static electricity that is generated in amazing amounts. Next time, us canned air designed for use in cleaning computers.
Replace the CPU fan, us buy a new CPU cleaning kit, and any fans that blow air to the outside, and replace the power supply with one of decent quality. Clean the dust of fan blades and computer walls with a soft rag soaked in denatured alcohol. Get some nylon or plastic ties to hold the cables together and away from any fans. Tie down SATA and EIDE cables so they cannot block air or rattle. Make sure all air flow passages are free and allow full movement of cooling air. All these will likely return your computer to normal. You could also buy "silent" cooling fans for very little money which would reduce your noise even more..
Use canned air to get
PC started up fine.
Loaded fine.
All programs loaded exactly as normal.
About 30 seconds in....RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
and I mean loud.
I shut it down, and rebooted. Nothing again.
Whadya say?
Sounds like it might be the fan
Download speed fan and check for overheating
I hear this off and on. I did not think it came from within my computer at first so thought little of it. But one day my neighbour came over and whilst we were talking we both heard this noise it was like a door banging shut furiously. I thought somebody upstairs or wherever didnt care for the rest of us but my visitor said it was from my computer. But how come, where from, I couldnt for the life of me think what was causing it. Has anyone else experienced such a thing? Liza
Computers normally whine or clatter, sometimes alarms sound for overheat.Load bangs are usually terminal straight away. CD breaking in drive, PSU dying or motherboard blowing. The only thing I can think of is possibly hard drive heads catching on platters.SO I suggest you back up anything important immeditely.
8 more repliesRecently, I upgraded my graphic card. From FX5200 to 6600GT. And I got a new Power Supply. The power suply i got was 450watt Ultra neon (which was about 40 dollars).
And my computer noise has increased enormously. Has the system noise been increased because the power supply is not of good quality?
And if i get a better power supply, will the noise level drop?
thanks
what is making the noise? you gotta open ur case to find out
5 more repliesI built my own pc about a year ago. Lately whenever I boot the machine up it makes this weird buzzing, clicking noise. It generally stops after it gets fully booted up. Then it is quiet, but sometimes it will start making a buzzing noise after it has been on for awhile (I leave it on all the time). At first I was worried it might be the hard drive, but I have not had any real trouble with the machine. I figured if it were the hard drive, it probably would have died by now or I'd have some serious issues. So, what do you think? It would have to be the power supply or one of the internal fans right? Should I replace my 400 watt power supply?
Thanks!
Its probably a fan. I would take it out and take a look at it and put it back. You first have to find out wich fan it is.
I have had similar problems. I used to hit the fan a few times wih a screwdriver and it fixed the problem. I am not recommending it though. It was my PSU fan. Maybe u should clean it. Be careful.
