I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite M35X-S163 - How to enable touchpad scroll function?

The scroll feature of the touchpad can be enabled in control panel > Mouse.

There you will find the option but don?t forget that the driver for the touchpad must be installed and you can find it on the Toshiba website:

I update the drivers for the chipset and the sound card. In the Device Manager the sound card look good, in the Control Panel the sound look good and it is not grey out. Windows XP ps2 recognize the sound card, but there no sound coming out of the laptop, I also plug in earplug into the taptop no sound. Lookup information on the satellite m35x-s163; the system board have a sound card add to the system broad, and sound card have two broads; one part of the broad is connect the system broad and other broad is the volume control, the female plug for ear plug and mic. Could that sceond part of the sound broad is bad?

I'm interested in buying notebook L500-164.

Can anybody tell me if this notebook has a touchpad with scroll-function?
And if, only page down or also "left to right"?

Answer:Satellite L500-164 - Does the touchpad has scroll function?

Yes, the Satellite L500 supports virtual scrolling.

But therefore you need the touchpad driver, this feature is software based as on other notebook. It?s not a problem because the driver is already preinstalled and additionally you can download it on the Toshiba page. :)

Have fun with a new Satellite L500. Friend of me bought it too and it?s really great and the price is also good.

I have just brought a new A500/026 laptop and when I play music from my ipod I get a small pop static sound on regular intervals during the song... this happens on all my music. I accidentally scroll horizontally across my touhpad and my screen minimises or maximises. I try to locate how I did it but can never seem to get it back to its normal state. There is obviously some kind of function here, can anyone help me with what this is? I have installed the x64 bit version of windows 7.

Answer:Issues with sound and scroll function on touchpad on my Satellite A500/026

The touchpad settings are placed in control panel -> mouse
There you will find the additional tab which would allows you to access the touchpad properties.

As far as I know the touchpad properties contains a lot of different options which allows you to configure the scroll function, to enable and to assign different actions to the touchpad corners, etc?

Check it!

As I understood you message: the touchpad is working properly but only the scroll function does not work. Right?

In such case I would recommend checking the option in Control Panel -> Mouse
Here you will need to switch to last tab and go to Advanced Settings.
Usually, there you should find the settings for touchpad:

My touchpad (Alps Ver. 7.0.302.8) looses the scroll function periodically when switching between web sites in Firefox.
Under "mouse properties" the graphic shows no activity for the scrolling activity.

It usually highlites the graphic when I touch the scroll area of the touchpad. I am at the latest driver ver., but have not tried removing & reinstalling it yet. Anyone know if this is likely a Vista (Vista Home Premium SP1) issue or an Alps driver issue?
I also occasionally lose my pointer settings, like speed, when awaking from sleep. Not sure of exact conditions when this happens though.

I have seen an issue with my wireless adapter not being recognized after after sleep.
For this, I must restart the computer & the device is reinstalled.
The problem with the touchpad did not occur for the first 2 weeks of use, but the wireless adapter problem started from day 2 or 3.

Oh, BTW, I also have a Logitech mouse (Ver. installed & Wacom ( driver installed.
I can do without the Wacom being installed at start, but I do want the Logitech mouse driver installed.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, kev

Answer:Satellite P305-S8828 touchpad loosing scroll function

Hey kev

We can discuss about this just if you use recovery image or ?factory settings?. You have installed third part driver and the Toshiba responsibility stops there. Nobody knows if there is some negative influence to Toshiba preinstalled driver.

If you want to have full touchpad functionality, use Toshiba stuff only. But if you want to use some external device with own driver or software you must live with it.

Hi there,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300D that came with Vista, but recently my hard drive died and I installed Windows 7 64bit with the new one. My problem is that the Synaptics touchpad lost its scroll function, and Toshiba doesn't provide the drivers for Win7, only for XP and Vista (and those don't work, I've tried it).

What can I do to make it work again? Thanks!

The two-finger function seems to be delayed (as in, it will work 10 min after i log in to the computer), or it sometimes does not work at all. To make it work, i would have to go to controlpanel-->mouse. Of course, i have redownloaded the driver around 3 times, which temporarily fixed the problem. Any way to permanently fix this? P.S, sometimes the num-lock/cap-lock animation that appears at the bottom right corner of the screen stop working too (if that helps)

Hey there,

i recently got a harddrive replacment for my Qosmio f60 laptop and windows had to be reloaded.
When my laptop was previously working i could two-finger scroll on pages and such,
Now i cant, and i cannot find a setting for it anywhere.

ive downloaded a driver called 'scrybe' which allows me to do this,
but i would much prefer not running an extra processor and just using the laptops default function.

Can anyone explain why my laptop previously let me do this and now cant? and how i could fix it?

thanks heaps!

Maybe the Synaptics touchpad driver is not installed?
The Synaptics driver provides additional touchpad features.
Therefore I recommend installing this driver.

I got my Precision M4800 and I'm really about it.
But! I dislike the touchpad for one reason : No option to enable one-finger scroll. I'm kinda "old school" with touchpad and I don't like using my the two-fingers scroll and all the "fancy " features and the touchpad software don't have this specific feature.I tried the old driver version (7.0), but it's not compatible with Windows 8.1.
I can see a lot of values in the regedit ( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alps and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alps ) but I don't know which one it can be,
Do you know if a generic ALPS drivers exist? Do you have a solution for this issue?

Answer:Enable one-finger scroll on Precision M4800 (ALPS touchpad)

Run the DellTPad.exe file in C:\Program Files\DellTPad.  This will give you an older interface which includes the one-finger scroll.

By the way: FN+F9 has nothing to do with this specific option. Using this key combination you can just enable/disable touchpad in general.

I have a Satellite L750 (my first Laptop and first touchpad) running Windows 7. I have set the mouse scroll to 1 line at a time but every time I place the pointer on the right scroll bar down arrow (and press the left button or tap) the screen jumps so that the scroll bar is at the bottom. I want the screen to 'inch' down slowly as it would if I was using a mouse wheel.

Yes, I know that the answer is probably very easy so please, those folks that are itching to reply remember I am a 'newbie' at touchpads.

Answer:Satellite L750 - How do I scroll with the touchpad?

You can scroll with the touchpad on right side of it. Just move your finger up or down on the right side of touchpad and you can scroll with this gesture. It?s not complicated and very easy.
Furthermore such basic operations are described in user manual and I would recommend reading it. ;)

If you are not familiar with the touchpad you can also connect an external USB mouse (same mouse like on a desktop computer). Such external mouses are not expensive and you don?t need a driver for that. Just connect it to one USB port and it?s ready to use :)

Did you activate the virtual scroll function in Synaptics driver?

You should check this because this feature must be enabled. Go to control panel => Mouse => Device Settings => Settings => Virtual Scrolling.

Therefore the Synaptics driver must be installed. I?m using the driver from the Toshiba website and don?t have any problems.

And, the Bottom bar Disappears only when I am on the internet chrome (on chrome its gone, but still there on internet explorer, but who wants to use explorer!! lol).

It makes it so hard to click between research and writing! Its always there like it should be on word doc , excel etc.

Small things, but super annoying and I dont understand why the change, or how theyre connected. Would just like them fixed, its so silly it would just change on me.

The touchpad settings can be changed in control panel -> mouse
Here you have to go to last tab ?Advanced? and click on Advanced setting button.

Now you should get a menu with all options available for touchpad.
There should be a option called ?Use Scroll function?. This should be checked/enabled.

Hi guys,

in 2007 i bought my Toshiba Satellite A110-156, shortly after i got vista home from Toshiba as an present for my new Laptop.
All good, only my touchpad didn't scroll.

After a new driver version 703014, it works.
Only vista keeps naggin by the start up. I have to accept the drivers three times before it works.
Every time by a start up!

After a while, i finally found the solution - sadly enough - this weekend i had to reinstall my laptop en forgot what the solution was.
I have the same driver, version 703014 from the toshiba site and saddly the same problem.

I can't find the solution on the dutch sites, so i hope you can help me!

I already tried to install the drivers by de hardware programs, this didn't help!

Answer:Satellite A110-156 - touchpad doesn't scroll

Maybe you have to configure the touchpad again?

I think you will find the touchpad settings in control panel -> mouse.
There you have to search for the touchpad entry? I?m not sure if you have to got to the properties or settings but one of this option should be available to get advanced touchpad settings.

The A110-156 seems to be a PSAB0E series?
If you are using the Vista then you have to update the BIOS to the 5.20-WIN version because this BIOS is only for Vista usage!

Does this means that scrolling function is available after the installation of Win 7?

Hmm? for me it sounds like you would need to configure this touchpad function.
You can do this in control panel -> mouse -> device settings
There should be an additional tab containing all the touchpad options?

There you could change and increase the touch area which is needed for scrolling and similar? you could increase the sensitivity too?

One day I realized I had lost pinch and scroll functions on my touch pad. Don't know why.
So I tried to install a Synaptics touch pad Driver. This provided the missing functions but the Cursor got delayed and the sensitivity of the touch pad was restricted to a certain spot. Therefore I de-installed the Synaptic Driver again.
The sensitivity issued got cured but I still had no pinch and scroll function on the touch pad.
Therefore I went to the Toshiba download site and learned that the ALPS Driver was the original Driver.
I tried to install this Driver (as requested for 64 bits).
The installation seemed to pass smoothly. After re-starting there is still no pinch and scroll functionality and nowhere the driver is found neither in the programs list nor added to the "mouse" Screen in the System functions Folder.

How can I get that pinch, zoom and scroll functions back to my touch pad?

the Alps touchpad driver for W8.1 that is currently supplied by Toshiba does not have an option to adjust the vertical scroll speed of the two finger gesture. With the default speed, even leaning the fingers downwards without moving them results in a scroll that is equivalent of PAGE_DOWN, e.g. way to fast. The version I use is the latest one from the website (

There is a registry entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Alps/Apoint that make the situation a bit more bearable (set ScrollLines to 1), but there is no way to adjust if further it in the settings or the registry

A newer Alps Driver (8.103.404.104) from another company has this option and scrolling works like it should on the lowest speed, but it does not support 2-finger rightclick.

Why does toshiba use an outdated driver that is missing this critical function? Is there a new driver available? Did anyone find a fix for this?

Answer:Satellite Z30 - Updated Touchpad Driver with adjustable scroll speed?

From my knowledge notebook manufacturers modify and adjust the own drivers.
The driver versions are always different and are not always comparable with driver versions released by other notebook manufacutrers.

As you said above:
the Alps driver released by Toshiba does not support the scroll speed but at the other hand it supports the 2-finger right click.
The other driver supports the scroll speed option but doesn?t support the finger right click.

Well it would nice to have an driver which would support all the mentioned options.
So I think we can just wait and hope that the next releases will support some more nice-to-have features?

I recently bought a new Satellite Pro A200-1mi (psae7e). Thing is that while I was using it initially there was this assist in the beginning which enabled us to use the hotkey (fn+keys) on the screen.
It was at the top of the screen.

So I clicked on the tab to disable my touchpad but now I can't seem to enable the touchpad and accidently closed this hotkey assist also.

So tried everything to enable the touchpad again; driver reinstalled, tried installing touchpad on/off and everything...

Please help me.
If there is any questions please do ask..
I am really hoping that someone would find a answer for me.

Thanks in advance,

I just newly installed Windows 7 on my C850-1F2. To get the installation to complete, I had to disable all unneeded devices in the BIOS, including the internal pointing device/touchpad. After this, the installation went smoothly and I subsequently installed all corresponding drivers (downloaded from Toshiba) manually.

All devices could be installed and are functioning correctly - except for the touchpad.
If I enable the touchpad in the BIOS again, Windows won't boot. It just stops at the "Windows is starting" screen - it's not even freezing (the animation keeps looping), it just won't continue. Booting in Safe mode, it will also stop after loading all drivers. I had the laptop running all night to see if I was just being too impatient, but to no avail.

The system also won't detect the touchpad. The device manager only displays the USB mouse I connected or nothing at all. When accessing the 'Mouse' settings, the system will first ask me whether I want to deinstall the existing Synaptics drivers. I tried that as well, reinstalling both Toshiba and the Synaptics generic driver, but no touchpad.

If I use FN+F5 to enable the touchpad (while previously disabled in the BIOS), I merely disable the keyboard. The touchpad won't work. However, I have to disable it again, then put the laptop into standby and wake it up again in order for the keyboard to work again.
Furthermore, if I reboot after using fn+f5, the touchpad is enabled in the BIOS again and Win... Read more

Answer:Satellite C850-1F2 - cannot enable touchpad

>To get the installation to complete, I had to disable all unneeded devices in the BIOS, including the internal pointing device/touchpad.
I have installed Win7 many times but I never heard about something like this and I?ve always installed it after BIOS was set to default settings so I don?t understand this ?theory? and cannot understand why you have done this.

Anyway, if nothing works well I strongly recommend you to set BIOS to default settings and then install own Win7 version. I hope you use original Microsoft installation disc and not some ?self made? stuff.

I don?t think there is some magic trick that can solve your problem.

Did you create the recovery disk before you have formatted the notebook?
If yes, use this disk, enable the touchpad and then reinstall the Win 7 ;)

Did you try to enable the touchpad in control panel -> mouse -> other devices?
Check this too?

There should be an option which should control some touchpad properties.

Answer:How to enable Touchpad scrolling on a Satellite 2410

a little hint, hope it helps you:

Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Mouse and then after you reached the "Mouse Properties" there should be a tab named "Advanced".
Mostly there is special software from the manufacturer, and there the settings can be modified.

Otherwise, look into your "Toshiba Console" if you can find something there.

Is there a way I can turn off the zoom function on my touchpad.
It's very annoying when it continuously changes zoom.

Answer:Satellite C50-B - How to disable touchpad zoom function?

Go to control panel -> mouse
Here you should check the last tab.

The name of this last tab depends on the touchpad driver which is installed on your notebook.
There are two possibilities: either its ELAN or Synaptics driver

In case your notebook supports ELAN touchpad, go to ELAN tab.
Now you will see new ELAN Smart Pad window providing 3 tabs: One finger, Multi finger, Additional
Choose ?Multi-finger tab? and disable the option called Zooming.

Hey, I got a Satellite L650 recently and had no problems until yesterday. I am unable to enable/disable the touch pad with the touch pad on/off button which is right above the mouse pad in the L650. I've tried enabling/disabling the touch pad using the F9 key and it work fine. But i cannot with the on/off button.

Can anyone please help me out on this? Thanks!

Answer:Satellite L650 - Touchpad on/off button function

Hi buddy,

If you did notice this problem until yesterday, I would recommend a system restore to an earlier point. Maybe you have installed or uninstalled some important drivers or tools and so it doesn?t anymore.

If this doesn?t work, try to reinstall Value Added Package and touchpad driver. Both you can download on the Toshiba website.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-033 running Vista Home Basic. I mostly use the laptop as a desk top replacement and, as I dislike using the touchpad, I disabled it, and instead I use an external mouse via one of the USB ports.

I am not sure whether I disabled the touchpad by pressing Fn + F9 or by some other means (if it was by some other means I have forgotten what this was). Recently I wished to re-enable the touchpad so that I could use the laptop outside the house. However, I found that pressing Fn & F9 did not re-enable the touchpad and I now can't use the touchpad at all.

If I go into mouse properties (in control panel), this tells me that my synaptics pointing device is enabled. If I go into device manager and look at "mice", I am told that my touchpad is working properly.

All this makes me suspect that the problem is not a hardware fault but that I have altered some setting, with the result that my touchpad is permanently disabled until I change the setting back to its original state.

Answer:Satellite A100-033: I disabled touchpad and now Fn+F9 doesn't enable it

One of the solution would be a system restoring? you could try to set the OS to the early time point. Maybe this would help to enable the touchpad again.

At the other hand you could try to reinstall the Touchpad drivers? firstly I would recommend removing it from the device manager and then after reboot you could try to reinstall the downloaded drivers!!!

I would appreciate some feedback from you?

I can't find any driver f?r Windows 8.1.
This is not so bad, if I have an idea, how I can switch on and off the WLAN module (key FN+F8) and how I can configure the touch pad.

I would like switch off the click of the panel surface.
Click should be only the "mouse-button" on the touch pad.

Cheers, Mike

My Satellite C660 zooms webpages etc in & out from the mouse touchpad.
I have been trying to get used to it but its been a year & i have had to buy a wireless mouse as i can get on with it.

I think you are talking about the pinch zoom.
Yes, this can be disabled.
Go to control panel -> mouse -> device settings (I think its last tab it could be called Advanced too)
Here click the button Advanced settings
Here you should see all available options. I guess the option should be available there.

I spent a lot of time searching for the solution of my problem, but without effects.

My touchpad is not working properly. I mean, i can move the arrow and click on the screen, that is ok. But all other functions (volume, mailbox and other "virtual buttons" are not working)- so called "dual mode".
I got mouse connected to the USB.

If I disconnect it, there is no change - the touchpad works only in the basic mode.
If I change in touchpad settings for "always in Dual Mode when an outside device is plugged in" - the Dual mode and all the virtual buttons work.
But what should I do to make the dual mode work even if the mouse is not connected (to make the on/off button work)???

Thanks for all help,

Answer:Satellite A200 touchpad function not working properly

I?m a little bit confused now and I don?t know what you want exactly?
You speak about the touchpad, dual mode, USB mouse, etc.

I don?t know what you mean with dual mode and maybe you should give us more informations about your OS.
And do you use the touchpad or USB mouse?

Can you post a screenshot or something else?

I don?t know if this solves your problem but have you tried to update the touchpad driver? You can find it on the Toshiba website.

My Satellite 5200 Series features a PHYSICAL scroll wheel under the Touch Pad in addition to the two "mouse" buttons. I find it a massively useful feature but can't find any current models that have retained it.

Has it been rejected ?

Is there an alternative way of scrolling with newer machines ?

I'd rather not add an external mouse as it blocks a valuable USB port AND I actually DO use my laptop, outdoors on my LAP.

Answer:Satellite 5200: Question about TouchPad scrolling function

Hi Tatterdemalion,

Most modern notebooks using a touchpad have a software scrolling feature (which can be disabled if you wish) to control automatic scrolling. This is very useful for browsing text in Word documents or on web pages etc., The technique (when the feature is enabled) is to set the top left or right corner of the touchpad to be the 'enable' point and by touching this area momentarily it will change the mousse pointer to indicate the autoscroll option. You then just drag the pointer slightly downwards and the screen will start to scroll until you touch the touch pad again.

A manual scroll facility is also available and can be used simply by stroking the right side of the touchpad (down to scroll down and up to scroll up), and the bottom of the touchpad to scroll left and right.

I find these features very useful but I know other people who find them extremely irritating. It is worth checking out.

How do you turn off the scrolling function on the right hand side of the mouse?
It drives me crazy. Just want the cursor but cannot see anything in the Control Panel.

Answer:How to disable scrolling function on touchpad on Satellite A series?

This option you can find in advanced mouse options.
Control panel > Mouse properties > Device settings and if you have Synaptics driver just click on settings. There you will find option for virtual scrolling.

Just remove check mark in front of horizontal and vertical scrolling options and it will be OFF.

Hello all.

I see from previous posts that this issue has been addressed in some way or another a few times and I have tried several of the fixes, and have had no success.

1. I have a toshiba L300 next to me(girlfriends), and this feature works fine. V annoying!!
2. I have never been able to enable the scrolling. I know where the setting are and have tried to check/uncheck the boxes/ press 'apply' then ok and the other way around.
3. I have re-installed the drivers from toshiba(synaptics).
4. I have updated the bios from tempro. Although I only registed for tempro recently, the dates on the list of updates seemed fairly old. ie. not much new stuff available anyway.

Thats where im at!
All advice would be apreciated.
Also, are Realtec drives related with the touchpad in some way??
Cheers Phill
I have about a month left on the warranty, so hopefully this would be something that may be covered if no-one can help.

Answer:Satellite Pro A210 touchpad synaptics cannot enable virtual scrolling.

In my opinion everything you already done is right and I?m really out of idea what you can try except most radical solution ? OS installation with recovery CD/DVD. After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again. As far as I know virtual scrolling is enabled by default and it should work after first start.

So doing this you can make the ?ultimate test? and be sure if this function works or not.

Satellite A200-19L belongs to the PSAECE series.
The Toshiba driver page provides two touchpad drivers;
One from Alps Electric and one from Synaptics

The Synaptics driver allows you to set the properties and functions for Touch Pad control.
The Alps Electric driver allows you to set the properties and functions for mouse control.

Check if both are installed properly

I am new to the forum so please excuse my lack of computer skills.

Where my trouble began was I deleted the keyboard driver off my computer.
I have reinstalled and it is now working with the exception of the function keys.

I have tried to install Hotkeys off the Toshiba web site with no success. It will not load on the computer for me.
I have also reinstalled 'utilities' and in doing this the touch pad mouse stopped working.

Is anyone able to suggest to me what I need to do to fix this?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Satellite P100 PSPA3A - Touchpad and Function keys not working

I've never heard of deleting a keyboard driver, but if some of your buttons work then i think software is fine. It might be a loose keyboard connector coming loose which sits underneath your keyboard around the "ghj" buttons.

I would return the laptop to the place of purchase and get them to fix it. Less grief for you and an easy fix. Keep it simple everyone!

I have a Satellite A210, its about 3 months old now.
At the beginning when i tapped the top right hand corner of the mouse pad it turned a bright blue colour and i was able to use it to control the volume and open up to 6 areas with one touch.

However for the past month or so, for no apparent reason it no longer works, all i can do with it now is tap in the top right corner to expand a window and tap in the bottom left to minimize a window.

Can anyone help explain why this is?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as its very frustrating.

Such issues are not possible to explain because nobody here knows what you have done with your notebook. As fast solution you can try to roll back your OS to earlier time using System Restore tool.

Try it. Maybe it will work again. Please inform us about results.

Answer:Fn+F5 function and touchpad doesn't work correctly on Satellite A series

What notebook do you have?

I presume your notebook was delivered with XP and now you want to use it with Vista OS.
Please note that you need to install the Toshiba Vista Value Added Package to use all the notebook features.
Very important is the Components Common Driver and the TOSHIBA Flash Cards.
The Flashcards provides the Hotkey function and the launcher function that starts the Hotkey function.
Please reinstall it!

The additional touchpad functionality must be configured firstly!
This can be done in control panel -> mouse

There you should look for the touchpad settings and could configure the touchpad scroll areas again.

Hello, I got my new Lenovo Ideapad U410 (Windows 7) yesterday and I'm just starting to get things going. The one thing that has been bothering me is that I can't scroll uing the touchpad. It must be the Page Up button/Scroll Lock using the Fn Key, but I've tried it and absolutely nothing happens. The Fn Key works for the upper keys (F1, F5, etc.) but not for the buttons on the side (Home/Pause, End/Break, PgUp/ScrLk, PgDn/Insert). I figure I should reinstall keyboard drivers? I'm really sorry, I've looked through different threads but it seems they all have a different solution and I'm getting a bit confused haha.  Thank you!

Answer:U410 Scroll Lock / FN Key not working - I can't scroll using the touchpad

Hi, since you got the laptop yesterday, did you install / uninstall any drivers? Or did the problem exist  right up? ?f the former please roll the driver(s) back. ?f the problem occured later on,you could do a system restore, if you have a restore point, or even since the system is so new,you could restore to factrory settings. after backing up. Otherwise please call Lenovo support, they'll advise you.

After I updated the BIOS (from Toshiba's website), the scrolling function stop working. I can still click, move the mouse pointer, but can no longer scroll through touch pad. Reinstalling Synaptics driver doesn't resolve the problem. The strange thing is that the computer only detects my touchpad as standard pointing device (port: PS/2) device. 'Pressure graph' and 'Moodpad' function also stop working and complain 'this program requires a Synaptics TouchPad and the Synaptics Pointing device driver'.
My computer is Satellite A200 PSAE0C-TR605C.

Does anyone know the reason?

Answer:Satellite A200 - Touchpad scrolling function stop working after update BIOS

Which operating system is installled and which is more interesting: which BIOS version did you installed?? Why I am asking? Because there are 2 different BIOS versions, one for Vista (1.80) and one for XP (5.20) which means when you flash a XP BIOS on a machine with Vista installed then some functions are not working properly like the FN keys or the touchpad.

Please check this out and make sure you have the proper BIOS installed.

I just had my new W530 delivered yesterday, unfortunately with Windows 8 Professional. I noticed that the cursor would not move when I moved my finger across the touchpad or the cursor was "stuck" until I tried a repeat movement with my finger.   I adjusted almost every setting on the latest lenovo driver which provides for windows 8 screen gestures.   The responsiveness to windows 8 gestures does not appear that good, but it is a story for another post.  The main reason for my post is that vertical scrolling barely works in IE 10.I have all the smart check items disabled and the palmcheck lowered to 3.   I've got the touch sensitivity to light, but have also tried heavy.   I have to push like I'm trying to crack the case to get the cursor to move up and down, and often I will touch the right side of the touchpad and nothing happens or it takes a few tries of swiping to get the window to move up or down.    I called two support agents and the first one reminded me I have 30 days to return the unit for a refund, and the second guy had me update the driver with the lenovo update  utility which showed the same version as the one I downloaded and installed.  It made no difference.   He then suggested that if I keep the laptop, the trackpad needs replacing. From looking at some other posts, I really wonder if the pad could be ok, but lenovo is actually selling this thing with a trackpad that performs that poorly. &nb... Answer:Touchpad vertical scroll horrible or touchpad defective

On the W520, the two finger scrolling is unusable, it just randomly jerks the window, or not. Tried every trick in the book when I first got my W520, after a couple of months of wasting time gave up and only use it with a mouse. The W520 has the worst trackpad in the history of computing devices (and the worst mic and speakers, or at least worst drivers). If you need a working touchpad, dont by a Lenovo W series.

I have a Satellite M35x which has a blank (black) screen. It happened when I thought I turned it off and put it in the bag. It was like that for an hour.

When I took it out and opened it, it started and I logged onto my email but then it went black and never came back. I was in the USA at the time and came to Prague with it and brought it into service. I was told that it's the motherboard and the cost is $800US for replacement. I was hoping someone here might be able to tell me where to send it for repair at a more affordable price.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Answer:Satellite M35x went black

Hmm... it's a very bad story. You should know that the motherboard is one of the expensive notebook parts. The new motherboard costs a little fortune. But to be honest I didn't see any motherboards which would cost $800.
You can buy an new notebook for $800!

However, here is a link to the global Toshiba authorize service providers.

In Czech Republic you can find three different ASPs. Make a call to all three ASP and ask for the costs.

At the other hand you could check Ebay for some second hand boards.

Good luck

When i push the power button, the it turn on, the blue led is ok but the HDD led flashes 1-2 times or it's hapened when it doesn't light at all and the laptop turn off but the power button remains enlighted.

However, from time in time, it starts, load the XP but after 1 minute turns off.

I reinstaled recently the WinXP and i made a bios update. Before that, the laptop hadn't this behaviour however, the XP raported me that the hdd has bad blocks.
I suspected it is something related with the HDD.
What should i do?

How can i be sure the HDD is wrong?

Answer:Satellite M35X cannot start

Hi mate,

If your HDD has defective sectors you should exchange it ;)

For example before you do this you can check it for defective sectors by using special HDD diagnostic tools like Drive Fitness Test:
There you can download an image file for creating a bootable disk. Then boot from it and start test, it?s pretty easy! ;)

If your HDD is faulty, this tool should recognize this.

Hi everyone. I came across this site doing some homework on this crappy Toshiba M35x that my girlfriend bought. Anyway the DC jack pin is broken (I know, big shock huh?) and I'm having problems of all things just getting the top case to come off. I got all the screws off that I can see, but it seems in the back were the LCD screen is connected to there's something holding it down on each end. Is there some additional screws I missed? Is it like a "hook" system or like a "plunger"? I don't want to pull on it too hard and break it (then I'll hear the old "I told you so" speech). I've been using both a guitar pick and a tiny flat head screwdriver and it doesn't want to come off. Is there a trick? I looked all over on the internet just about this top case and nothing. Please, please give me some advice! Thank you. =)

Welcome to the forum and sorry for the late reply Right you used the recovery disk when the battery died, what made you choose this course of action as there was no need to wipe the hard drive back to stock? Was it misadventure or had the computer become unstable?

Usually in this situation you would hit F8 and choose last known good configuration or safe mode and correct the problem you had just encountered, try last know good configuration I doubt it will work because you don't have a previous 'good' configuration, you can try safe mode to see if the computer gets into windows but we're unsure what to fix.

Since you have no important files to loose I'd check your recovery disk is clean and run it again as it sounds like something has become corrupt on the reinstall, try twice see if it stalls in the same place.

Failing any of these options something could have been damaged in the "short out" more info on what happened would be helpful.

When I try to start my laptop all I am getting is the blue power light coming on and the fan starts running (4 or 5 Seconds) and then nothing. The problem started the other day when I had to use the recovery disk, after using the recovery disk the laptop ran great for about 5 hrs. and then froze up.

I shut it down and since then the most I have been able to get is the laptop starts, blue power light comes on, fan starts, and a couple times the hard drive (HD) indicator light comes on and starts loading. It has gotten to the welcome screen and then just stops. The screen goes black and the HD indicator light stops, which means the HD is not responding. That was only a couple times, since then I get nothing but the fan starting. No HD indicator light comes which means the HD is not loading.

Please help...out of warranty, can't afford to take in for repairs. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite M35X-S149 won't start

Sounds bad... hopefully it isn't an hardware problem... but to be honest it looks like an hardware issue.

But try firstly this;
Disconnect the AC adaptor and remove the battery. Wait about 30min and then connect both parts again. Then try to power up the notebook.

If the notebook will power up after this short workaround then you are a lucky man.
If the notebook will not power up then you had a bad luck and the notebook must be repaired ;(

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M35X-S329

I am not seeing any malware on your system.....but I do wonder why the HJT log does not show any running services. Your system could use some more RAM. I suggest you continue this in the software forum.

I have a 3 yr old Toshiba Satellite M35X laptop. I am running XP. It has a Celeron processor and a 40GB HD. 512RAM.
Today I was surfing the web and left for a half hour coffee break. When I returned I was confronted with a black screen and the following: "Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 blah balh. Then:
"For Realtek RTL8139(X)/8130/810XPCI
Fast Ethernet Controller N2.13 (020326)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: exiting PX ROM
Invalid partition table"

I couldn't do anything. I turned off the computer with the power button, waited five minutes, turned the computer back on and got:
The Toshiba screen, which led to a black screen with a cursor in the extreme upper left hand corner.
Then this message appeared:
"A disk read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart" which I did.

This resulted in the Toshiba log on screen and followed by the Realtek screen again, but this time it repeated itself for ever.

What is causing this, and can it be easily remedied, or do I have a defective hard drive? (!)

Thank you, in advance, for your prompt responses, good or dire!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M35X can't boot up!

Troubleshoot Invalid Partition Table
taken from

You power up your computer and receive the following error:

Invalid Partition Table
Possible Causes

When you power up your computer, the system examines the master partition table to determine what volume to use to boot up the operating system, and detected invalid information within it. This is caused by an incorrect or missing active partition.

To resolve this issue, consider the following steps:

Boot up the computer with a Microsoft Windows 98 boot up disk or Windows XP recovery console. Select the correct bootup device before you do that.
At the DOS command prompt, type in: fdisk
Now, you will be prompted with the following question
Do you wish to enlarge large disk support (Y/N) ?
Enter: Y
Now to check for active partition, enter: 2

Look under the Status column. The active partition is usually assigned to the drive which contains your operating system.
If there's no active partition set, enter the number of the partition to make active

Restart your computer and the problem should be resolved.

Hi,I own a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S349 with an Intel82852/82855 GM/GME graphics card. Once,I changed output settings to TV.After disconnection of the TV, resolution of my laptop became to 800x600. I wanted to set usual maximum resolution 1280x800,but in "settings" i encountered posibility to set my resolution to appr. 2800x1500!!!I applied, resolution has been shanged, but in 1 minute,i changed it back to 1280x800.Now i can't change my res. to that(2800x1500).Everything is working properly.
So,my question is: what that was:-malfunction of hardware or my video res. can be set to greater resolution than 1280x800.
Thanks in advance
excuse me for my english

Answer:Very large resolution of my Satellite M35X

I can?t explain why it was possible to set the resolution to 2800x1500px.
But as far as I know generally it?s not possible to set the settings to this high value. The 1280x800 is the highest resolution on this unit.
A similar issue has occurred on my unit. After plugging my external monitor it was not possible to set my internal resolution to 1280x800 but only to 1024x786. After resetting the OS all works properly and it was possible to use the highest display resolution.

On your unit the 1280x800px is the max resolution and you shouldn?t try to set it to the higher resolution like 2800x1500px.

Toshiba Satellite M35X-S329, Win XP, Centrino. Crashed last week[again] and died. I tried the restore disk that came with it 3x to no avail. It would not boot after the restore. It has a history of having the system board[?] [= to desktop motherboard, the repair shop said]
being replaced at least 3 times under the 4 year warranty. I am assuming it is that again.

Does this model have a history of this? If so, does anyone know what might be causing it?
I hate to replace it, cause when it works, it works great. What brand/type board would I need? How do I replace it if I do it myself? I have a smattering of knowledge[replaced drives, power supplies before], but never replaced a board.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M35X-S329

If it's 4 years old and the warranty is gone I would consider a new laptop. A new motherboard may not be worth it is if is an old laptop not to mention it may be hard to find a replacement motherboard.

If you can find a good cheap replacement on ebay or such it may be worth it.

As it looks like your saying it wont post now and you can't restore it? Is the screen blank when you turn it on? Any beeps?

I can't insert a "memory stick pro duo" card from a digital camera in my Toshiba Satellite m35x.

The memory stick simple slides inside the "bridge media" slot and doesn't lock at all ( I actually used a bent clip to extract it back).

It seems the "bridge media" slot is too wide for the memory card.

I've read the user guide and the procedure looks straightforward.

What wrong?

Answer:Can't use memory stick pro duo with Satellite M35x

I think the question is:

Does the Satellite M35X supports the memory stick pro duo?

I don?t think so buddy.

Check your user manual which should be preinstalled on your notebook to ensure which cards are compatible an which cards are not supported!

If the memory stick pro duo is not supported by internal card slot then you should choose an external solution like a external USB card reader.

I have Toshiba Satellite M35X-S109. I have used it for over two years now.
Today the laptop screen went blank all of a sudden. I turned off the laptop, and turned it back on, the fan seemed to work only and nothing else happened. I turned it off again and turned it back but the computer doesn?t seem to boot up. It seems as if the fan starts to work when I turn on the laptop and nothing else works. IT might be the mother board which isn?t working. I am not sure what is wrong with the laptop as I am a novice user.
Can anybody lend a hand?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M35X-S109 problem!!!

Make sure the laptop is powered off and the AC cord is disconnected from the PC. Remove the battery and leave it out for a couple of minutes. Then hook up the AC adapter power cord (with the battery still removed) and try to turn it on. If it powers up normally, let Windows load completely, then shut down normally (click Start > Turn Off, etc...). Unplug the AC cord again, replace the battery, plug the AC cord back in and try to power up. Give it a shot and post your results (or lack of results as the case may be )

Hi; when I purchased this computer in 2004, I did not buy the antennae it required to be wireless. Now, I want to use its wireless capability, but am told that the antennae is not available for purchase. How do I utilize the wireless capability now? I have been using a router and modem. Thank you!

Answer:Satellite M35X-S349 need to hook up wireless

This seems to be a Toshiab US notebook series.
I?m not quite sure if it?s Wlan upgradeable.
I think it isn?t

However, the easiest way to upgrade this notebook for WLan purposes is the usage of an external USB WLan stick.
Such sticks are not expensive and you can install it very fast.
The configuration should be very easy.

I recommend usage of USB sticks which supports the 802.11 B, G or N standard.

Hi, After fixing the DC plug, which was broken, the battery did not charge. When i plug my AC adapter the charge light (orange) stays on for 5 sec. then extinguishes. The computer can be operated without the battery (AC adapter plugged in). When i flip the computer over and measure the voltage from the pins going to the battery (battery not in) i measure from left to right :, ground, 5,7V, 5,7V, 0v, 3,8V, 3,8V, 1,7V. So there seem to be voltage enough to charge the battery.

My question, is my battery fault, is there a possibility that the charging circuit is faulty or did i not solder the DC plug correct (is that possible when the computer works without hiccups from AC adapter).
thanks Olafur

Answer:Battery does not charge on Satellite M35X-S349

I?m not a technician but in my opinion it?s possible that you have something wrong.
According to your posting on the 3rd pin is no power. Maybe this is a problem.
Without any detailed motherboard tests it?s not easy to say what?s wrong.

I think the technician which has more experience in such issues should check the notebook. Unfortunately, without diagnostic it?s not possible to find out what?s wrong.

the CD-DVD Drive on my Satellite Laptop apparently is broken and I was thinking about purchasing an external CD-DVD Drive and would appreciate HELP.
In the event that I need to RE-Install Windows, would I be able to do this with an External CD Drive since I believe I need to boot from the CD to begin the reinstall and I am not sure if the Laptop will "recognize" the external drive?

Thank you,

Answer:Broken DVD Drive on my Satellite M35x laptop

As far as I know external optical disc drive will not be recognized and you will not be able to start OS installation. To be honest I don't understand why you prefer this external solution.
I don't know which notebook model do you have exactly but notebook optical disc drives are not expensive anymore, especially for older notebook models.

Almost every notebook can handle with several compatible drives and replacement is very simply. You can do this alone. So if you want to replace the drive let us know which notebook model do you have exactly.

My laptop satellite M35X doesn't start up. I press the power button. Then the hard disk green light binks once. The fan or hard disk makes a sound for a couple second. Nothing is displayed in the screen.

Nothing happens after that. I've tried to boot from a CD, but the hot keys doesn't work (press power button, then "C").

Answer:Satellite M35X-S349 doesn't start up

Hi Sergio,

From your description of the problem I would suggest that you have a hardware problem on your notebook. The initial POST is failing when it checks your peripheral devices and this is preventing the BIOS from loading correctly. I would suggest you try to remove/reinstall the RAM modules, the Hdd and The Optical Drive. If the fault still persists then you will need to refer to a Toshiba authorised Service Partner for further diagnostics.

I'm a new Geek, though hardly a geek and will leave it at novice.

Here are my specs:
Toshiba Satellite m35X-S349
Windows XP SP2
Intel Pentium M processor 1.70GHz,480MB(RAM)

i have had my laptop for about 4 years now. running like a top until 3 weeks ago when it crashed. I did a clean sweep and lost all of my data(very little of it was backed up, hence why I'm really not a geek and just a novice).

It ran fine until 3 days later when it began rebooting itself for hours on end. Took it to the GeekSquad (ripoff) who ran a diagnostics to tell me that there was no Hardware malfunction.

Since I am a Grad student I asked around the library for a few of the technicians to lend a hand. They ran all sorts of ram diagnostics (dimm something??), this and that and also could not figure out why my computer kept restarting itself and occassionally showing a BLUE screen.

Days later I encountered a few real Geeks who figured out that my problem was- an outdated Intel/Proset Internet wireless card driver being out of date. They installed it and my laptop has been fine, until today.

I got the infamous BLUE SCREEN again. Here is what it states and I am hoping this forum might have some suggestions on how to go about fixing what my computer may have:

Technical info:

" STOP: 0x0000008E (0x0000005, 0x80567AF7, 0xEDB87918, 0x00000000)

Answer:Help with Toshiba Satellite M35X-S349/Laptop

The error 0x0000008E can be caused by many different things, including a virus called HaxDoor. When does the error occur? Does it pop up when coming out of standby? Does it happen when browsing through your files on the hard drive? Are any file names listed when the blue screen error occurs? If the error appears to be random, take a look here and see if it helps:

I've been having the power connection problem common to the M35x (this one is s311), and took apart the thing only to discover this might be a different kind of problem.

As usual, it would run off a charged battery, but not off the cable (which worked). It also would not charge its own battery. So it makes sense to expect there is a gap in the power connector's connection to the mobo. Here is what we found.

(same as attached)

Does this damage look irreparable? I'm hesitant to attempt the soldering solution, because it seems like there is so much damage to the board nearby there's no saving the thing. Anyone think it might be worth attempting?

Greetings! Today I have tried to install windows 2000 on my notebook m35x-s111 but my attempts have not crowned success. After copying initial drivers there was "Blue Screen" speaking about that it is necessary to disable Bios shadow and Video Shadow. In BIOS such options are not present, there in general anything is not present from adjustments.

Today has tried to install Windows Vista RC1 but result that screen and the message on that what not full ACPI (is incompatible). I understand, that it is necessary to disable all these options and then the system will be install but how to do it???

Answer:Satellite M35X-S111: Cannot install W2k and Vista

What?s for error Code becomes you by the Installation from Win 2000 in the last line by the Blue Screen?
Is this a official Version? Or a OEM Version?

Vista Installation
You becomes not for all Hardware Drivers for Vista.
Please Check the Hardware Premises of the Microsoft Site.

Fact is that vista is not official on the market and till then it is not officially supported by Toshiba.

I have a Satellite M35x-s349. I got it around late 2004.

It had this problem for a few months and I had submitted to not being able to read or write cd's/dvd's because I couldn't find my recovery discs. When the whole comp crashed I renewed my efforts, found them, restored it with the help of an external HD case, backed up and restored my comp. It was working great. I burned cds and watched movies with no problems for a couple months.

Now it has stopped reading any kind of cd again. I put one in and the little disc flashes next to my cursor. I hear movement inside (both whirring and the eye moving) but after about 20 seconds it gives up and claims there is no disc in the drive. I don't want to have to do another system restore but I can't even read the Restore disc to reinstall the driver. Are there any thoughts on why this is happening if not any solutions? Any way to reinstall the driver online? I'm a mid-level comp user so I can understand most tech jargon you throw my way. I can usually solve my own problems but this one seems hopeless.

Any help is much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite M35x-s349 - DVD-ROM Drive not reading

Sounds like the Drive is faulty and needs replacing, especially since it wont even boot from a Bootable CD.

A Windows CD driver or a firmware update wont fix the problem, since Windows drivers dont affect DOS mode, and it was working perfectly with the current firmware.
