Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite L500-13T won't turn on

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I cannot get my Toshiba Satellite L500 13T PSLJ3E to work. Here is the timeline:

1. I brought it with Win Vista, It worked great for about 6 months but started slowing down and I decided to change it to Windows 7

2. I installed the Windows 7 using custom install(creating new "windows" folder, not upgrading Vista). Once again it worked great for about a month, but once again it ran into trouble - showing the Windows 7 version of the blue screen of death for 0.5 seconds followed by a restart.

3. I browsed the net and they said that the easiest way to get rid of the problem is to re-install. I did it(after trying several windows repairs) but yes, thats right, it died - before starting the windows it showed problems with Realtek Wireless.

4. I had hopes that third time - the charm will work and re-re-installed the W7(every time using new installation).
Once more time - doesnt work, but this time I cannot even get to install it - the windows installer stops at around 60% of the expanding files and says: problems with the media device. And after the restart I cannot find the Hard Drive(the BIOS shows only FDD and CD/DVD)

Now I'm stuck here, the only way to start the windows is by Safe Mode on my Wondows installed on point 3, yet not every time .
Unfortunately the first of my Recovery DVDs cannot start and on top of that I cannot enter into the recovery partition by pressing 0 at start up, but I see the Recovery Partition when I go to the WIndows in... Read more

Answer:Cannot run the OS on Toshiba Satellite L500

Blue screen and then restart sound's like something with hardware is wrong. I had something like that when my RAM module failed. Check your memory using memtest.

PS. I will not recommend installing windows on windows and reinstalling it. Better format drive and install new clean OS.

edit: or maybe something with your hard drive - if you had an option pull out you hard drive and check it on another computer using HDtune (or something like that)

Hello!

I've bought Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef November, and until now laptop worked brilliant. Three-four weeks ago, touchpad, and some space on the left of the touchpad started to be warm. I checked CPU temperature in Toshiba PC Health Monitor (v 1.4.1.64), and it was circa 30%, with 40% use of the cooler. The temperature is incresing in time, and now, after four weeks, touchpad is warmer, and it's about 45-50% temperature od CPU, with 50-60% use of the cooler.

I'm using laptop only for Internet, work in MS Word, and listening music, sometimes I play Warcraft III on it, I've got Windows 7.

Should I go with PC to technical support, or it's normal in my model?

Best regards,

Answer:CPU temperature in Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef

Hi mate

It?s nothing unusual that the touchpad would be warm since the CPU and cooling modules are placed near the touchpad.
So in my opinion you should not be worried about that.

The notebook?s temperature can increase after some time of usage?
This happens due to dust inside the cooling ventilators?
If you want, you can try to remove the dust using the compressed air spray?
I do this from time to time and this helps to keep the temperature on lower level?

Hi, I bought Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W and it came with Windows Vista. I tried to downgrade to XP, but it doesn't allow XP installation. Do you know how to downgrade?

Thanks!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W downgrade to XP

Hello & Welcome, toshibaquestion.

Downgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP is actually a very easy thing to do, BUT, I must warn you; it's the smartest of ideas since Windows XP and Windows Vista differ in driver capability and efficiency. So when you want to you use your MIC or Webcam, they may not work, this goes for your Audio, Network and even Display.

Also, Toshiba's a popular brand, and also a very updated** one, meaning they'll most likely be packed with a webcam, nice wireless card, hi-def monitor, etc - meaning, lots more drivers for you to fuss about and have to replace - which, believe me, isn't fun at all.

Downgrading would require you to actually make a partition (D), then install XP on your partition (D), and then delete your previous partition (C) - This is how I would do it, but I'm sure there's many many many other ways.

Dabble into it abit, and see if you find anything interesting. I'll be here to answer any further questions you may have.

Regards,
Undocked Windy

I have this laptop with 3 Partitions

The main partition got corrupted and apparently wiped so all windows folders have been deleted and a low level format carried out

I still have the recovery sector

Just wondering how to reinstall it back onto the main partition

I tried F8 and it took me to a screen to choose language but after that it said "You must log in to access system recovery options"

I guess user data has been wiped from the main partition ?

Are there any other keys to press on startup to access the Recovery partition ?

I didn't use my laptop for 2 weeks and now when I try to turn it on there is no sign of life other than the power lights at the front when it's plugged in. It's not just a screen issue - there are no whirring noises or anything when I try to turn it on, I just get nothing.

So far I have tried:

A power cycle
Changing the power supply and battery with my dad's identical computer.
Removing each of the two RAM sticks one at a time, repeating the power cycle, and trying to turn on.
Disconnecting the DVD drive and turning on.

None of these worked.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Satellite L500-1XD will not turn on

Hi

> Removing each of the two RAM sticks one at a time, repeating the power cycle, and trying to turn on.

What you could try to power up the unit using the RAM modules which are used in Dad?s identical notebook.
In case this does not help, I would assume some kind of motherboard malfunction might be the reason why the notebook cannot be powered ON.

How to solve this?
I guess you have no many options; the faulty part needs to be replaced. But I think this is a matter of expense

Hi,

My L500 fan is no longer working correctly

I am getting this message

Warning:a problem with the cooling system has been detected. please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.

The fan runs inconsistently (always for a few seconds on start-up, very sporadically the rest of the time, but it is completely stationary for the most part.

The computer is currently in pieces, and I am ready to replace the fan with a new one, however im not sure that will fix the problem (as the fan still seems to sometimes run).

Are you going to replace the fan or the entire cooling heatsink and fan? Was the heatsink clogged with dust? Keep in mind, this also may be a motherboard issue

No disply on my toshiba satellite L500,power supply led is getting on .

Answer:Toshiba satellite L500 not working, No disply

If you still get lights on the edge of the laptop & you can hear the fan spinning and harddisk clicking a bit but nothing at all is appearing on the display then it's either the screen or the power inverter that have gone. Either way it's not really something you can do yourself, take it to a technician to sort out. If you are not getting any lights, fan or clicking sound then it is a power issue - the LED doesn't necessarily mean that the power supply is ok. Again, not much you can do yourself, take it to an expert."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

Hello.

I currently own a l500-128 with windows 7 32 bits and I would like to know how you can turn off wireless in Windows instead of BIOS. Because I am using a clean installation I don't have any tools installed from toshiba so I don't know which software I need to use.

Second, I am wondering what the last 2 bios updates included. I have seen no improvement in performance so far, so I would like to know what was fixed.

Thank you in advanced.

Answer:Satellite L500-128 - How to turn off WLAN?

Hi

1)May I ask you if you did read the user manual?
You can turn off WLAN using the hardware switch on the notebook. You can also disable WLAN using FN+F8 key combination but therefore the Value Added Package must be installed.

2)I never noticed that BIOS updates improve the performance. Normally they fix only some problems and if you can?t find a change log on the Toshiba website there is no available.

OK so i have just received an older laptop that im trying to resurrect.

O/S : Windows 7Model : Toshiba satellite L500 PSLS3A-04M002Battery model NO : PA3534U-1BRS
It died a few days ago and refuses to boot, press the power button -> power LED glows briefly and goes out.
As it's a smart battery you can't boot directly off the AC adaptor because it's expecting a signal over the SMBus (IIRC) power LED doesn't even light up with A/C only with the battery is removed.
I believe it's the battery.
First because i disassembled the laptop, cleaned it, and put it back together, nothing seemed wrong with other system components.
Second, it's only a small 3620mAh Li-ion that (AFAIK) hasn't been changed since the laptop was bought (roughly 2011/2012) so im thinking the charge cycles have been well and truly used up.
OK no problem, searched around online using the battery model number (above), found a replacement

Cool, battery's enroute, should be here in the next few days.

Now the interesting part... When i go on Toshiba's site to look for some specs/drivers... the Laptop model doesn't exist, even under the discontinued models section... But there are a whole bunch of other models :

(click on the little arrow)

Also, there's no live / website or email based technical support :

What is it with Toshiba? The part number is clearly printed on the label on the underside of the laptop but the corresponding part number appears nowhere on the Toshiba support pages. This seems to occur with most Toshiba laptops that I have ever had anything to do with. Trying to find drivers, BIOS etc is a real PITA. I'm trying to find downloads for a Satellite L500 PSLS6A-00X013 but it doesn't show up any where. The serial number search is as useless as the part number search. Am I missing something?

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite l500 cooling fan has stopped working

I would purchase a can of compressed air or use an air compressor (with a light gentle nozzle) and blow the dust out of the inside. If you have a failed cooling fan, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. That model I think is rather old, it may not be worth it to repair.

Hope I've got this in the right place.

Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"

This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.

I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The HDMI port on my Satellite L500 laptop is not sending information to my sony bravia tv. All was working fine up until a couple of days ago. When i plug the hdmi lead into the port, it seems as if the laptop is aware it's plugged in as the screen flickers. The fn +F5 keys do as they should, but no picture appears on the tv. The tv shows a lead is plugged in also and again the screen flicks to say a source is there but then remains black. I can't see an issue in device manager and all drivers are saying they're up to date. I have also tried a new hdmi lead but nothing. Can anyone help with this?

Answer:Wireless not working in toshiba satellite l500 in windows 7

For a start, turn off CAPS LOCK - it's considered to be shouting & many will ignore you.Did the laptop come with Windows 7 or have you installed it later? Are you sure there are drivers available for the wireless card - check the manufacturer's website if necessary. Some Toshiba laptops have a separate wireless switch on the front edge - if it's there make sure it is in the 'on' position. The usual key combination, as far as I recall, is Fn and F8 pressed at the same time (not F8 on its own) - there should be an LED that lights up on the front edge of the laptop when the wireless adapter is on."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Hi,
I was in the middle of my revision using my laptop stated above, when it just turned off, it was plugged into the mains, so it was not the battery to that effect. But it will not turn on again, I unplugged it from the mains and normally when it is plugged into the mains it will ackowledge this with a light but neither is working. Also when I push the power button on or off mains it will not turn on.

I purchased the laptop december 2009 and this happened the first week that I had it but the computer was hot to the touch and theresfore it over heated but this time the laptop was not even warm and had only been on for 1/2 hour. I decided to leave it a couple of hours, and when i tried again the base of the laptop is cold to the touch but it still will not turn on.

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what is wrong with it

Many thanks.

Answer:Satellite L500-19x - turned off automatically and will not turn on again

Hi

Are any of the LEDs on, while the AC adaptor is connected?
If not, then there could be something wrong with the AC adaptor or the notebook?s motherboard.
But if you are 100% sure that the AC adaptor is ok, then there could be a serious issue with the notebook.

It?s hard to say what could be wrong here?as mentioned; if the LEDs don?t shine, then mobo might be affected? if the power LED in ON, then you should check the memory modules? in some cases the notebook would not power up due to faulty memory modules? so it?s definitely worth a check?

Which it should be preinstalled from Toshiba.

Answer:Satellite L500 (PSLS3E) - Can't update Toshiba CD Creator on Win7 64bit

Hi cba1,

Is this update necessary or can you ignore this update message?
In my opinion updates only necessary if something doesn?t work properly?

I don?t use Toshiba CD creator because there are some good alternative (freeware) programs, like CD Burner XP. Have you ever heard of that?
If not it?s worth a try!!! ;)

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 PSLS0A-019002 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed that I received two months ago as a gift.

Apart from disliking some the quirky and useless (to me) Windows Vista / 7 features, as the desktop is loading I get the error message "Toshiba Service Station has stopped working" which proceeds to find a solution, but apparently never finds one because this condition repeats itself every time I boot.

On another thread in these Toshiba forums, someone suggested downloading the independent utility called Toshiba Service Station and reinstalling it. I do not see such utility listed on the downloads page for my Toshiba model. Since I don't even know what the Toshiba Service Station does (unless it goes by another name - Toshiba Bulletin Board perhaps?), I have no idea what is causing the error or how to correct it.

Does anyone have a more precise solution?

Answer:Toshiba Service Station has stopped working - Satellite L500 PSLS0A

Hi,

Service Station is not currently active in Australia, so you can simply uninstall it.

Toshiba Satellite L500 screen display colour problem; black turn green and white turn pink. When the laptop is on after a while, the display go back to normal but just for a second. Then it turns back to green and pink for black and white colour again. The screen is also flickering.

Anyone, please help me.

Answer:Satellite L500 - Screen flickering and black color turn green

Hello

Theoretically two parts can be affected: Notebok display or graphic card itself.

Easiest way to check this is connecting an external monitor. If the external monitor is ok the graphic card is affected. Otherwise the notebook display must be exchanged.

Is your notebook still under warranty?

Ok here's the deal. My step son spilled a root beer onto the computer. I cleaned it all up, got as much of the soda out of the keyboard as possible and then shut it down for the night. The next day I turned it on and everything worked great. No keys were sticking and I thought I had got extremely lucky. Well the next day the keys were sticking Terribly and the computer asked me to turn on the sticky keys option so I did. This however does not work so well. I was having to hold down control alt shift just to be able to click on anything.

So this morning I decided to open up the case (never have opened a laptop case before, don't think I did anything wrong though) and try to clean up the keyboard. Well I got the keyboard cleaned up and the keys unstuck to where they were working properly again. I put the keyboard back in and closed up the case again. Well now the laptop just plain won't turn on. I tried holding the power button for 10 seconds but nothin. I get no beeps and no fans turn on or anything. With the ac adapter cord plugged in the little green indicator light comes on, but I still can't get it to turn on.

It's a Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976 model running on Windows 7. The serial number is 1A418419K.

I really hope someone has some advice or ideas for me, they would be tremendously appreciated.

Thanks in advance and i'm looking forward to some responses.

Sadly, you may need to send it back to Toshiba. It could be a fairly expensive repair depending on what got fried from the liquid.

Hi, I have had a Toshiba Satellite A665 for a few years now and have had no major problems up until now.

The first thing that happened is it would shut down randomly while I was using it. I turned it back on a few times and it worked for a while (maybe a few hours) before I noticed its next symptom. I had it plugged into the AC adapter and I started noticing it would only charge for 36 seconds at a time (yes I timed it) and then stop. If I unplugged it and plugged it back in it would work for another 36 seconds.

I then noticed that even though it was plugged in the battery indicator said 0% and not charging. Then it shut off again and I haven't been able to start it since. Now when I plug it in a white light just blinks repeatedly but nothing happens when I press power.

I have removed the battery, drained the power, replaced it, nothing. I have removed and reinserted the RAM, hard drive, and dvd drive, nothing.

Even worse, I put my hard drive in my other Toshiba Satellite, it booted once and now that one has THE SAME PROBLEM and won't start either. I am beyond frustrated and don't know what the hell's going on.

Thanks to anyone who tries to help...

Answer:Toshiba Satellite won't turn on

Not sure why your other Tosh wouldn't fire up but read on line about one guy who removed the battery for a short while with the AC cord plugged in and then put it back in.

This apparently resets the circuitry as it severs the memory from that battery and the computer "thinks" it's getting a new battery.

If your Tosh is modern enough to have a recovery partition, will it boot up into recovery mode by tapping F8 on boot up or clearing the BIOS may help (?)

Hi Everyone,

My Toshiba C50-B suddenly stoped to turn on after not using for 5 days.
If I plug in to power, charging LED is lighting red for 5-6 seconds only. At that time it is not booting, fan is not going and screen was black.
Same situation was occured when I pressed power button.
If I remove the battery, charging LED lights on white, but when I push power button, nothing is happening.
I tried to solve it through forum advice (removing battery, holding down power button for 30 up to 60 seconds) but this made no difference.
Without plugged in power cable, even indicators are not lighting.

So can anyone suggest how to fix it? (Unfortunately there is not any official Toshiba Service Center in our region, Uzbekistan).

Thanks in advace.

the toshiba satellite c50 a1hf laptop worked fine, until i unplugged it when i moved to another room and now it will not run on, the screen is black and there is an orange and white light on the front only usually there is a third light. the most recent things ive done to the laptop that may have caused this was plug a brand new hdmi monitor into it and put in the disc to install the monitor that is what i did yesterdayand it worked fine. and today the monitor said no signal when i turned it on, so i unplugged it from that and the screen on the laptop was also black i have tried the unplubattery and plug and hold down button but that didnt work and the only other option ive seen is to press a rest button at the bottom with a needle but im not sure where to locate it on this model. thank you.

Hello everyone.
I have a toshiba satellite L 50 B and when I press the power button, the device turns on (no image, but the power button turn on and the orange led below light up), but at the second turn off. It has all the appearance of being a short circuit, but I do not know where it is taking place. If I remove the RAM the laptop turns on, but obviously does not give an image, it does not turn off at the second. I have tried with many modules of RAM memories that in other equipment they work perfectly and even a colleague has left me the motherboard of his equipment and does exactly the same problem.
I've also tried another power button and another DC-IN cable and it does exactly the same thing, it turns on, but it shuts down at the second.
I think it is a short circuit, but it is rare that it happens to two motherboards equals and also, I do not note that any component of the motherboard is hot when I connect it to the electrical network (the white LED indicates that it reaches power is turned on).
A greeting and await your responses.

Any help?
I can do anything (I already disassembled my old toshiba to clean). I just don't know if I should find a motherboard, power board...

Note: at the end of the warranty the battery stopped working. I just use it plugged to the wall. When I put the battery he says "not charging".

Hi, My sister has a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S309. For some reason, the laptop won't turn on. She took it to a repair shop to see what can be done. They think the power connector is loose. My sister wants them to get the data off the laptop. However, the shop wants to keep the laptop overnight. She does not want to let them have it overnight. How can I slave my sister's laptop harddisk to my PC or my own laptop? Get an external enclosure? Is there anyway to fix the laptop?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M35X-S309 won't turn on

You can get a converter like this to hook the drive up as a slave in your desktop PC

If you are good with a soldering iron you can probably replace the power connector. Check out some of Johnwills posts on this site. Like this one.

So a couple months ago, my started having an odd little issue--sometimes, when I try to start it back up from hibernate or sleep, the power light will come on, and I can hear the fan running lightly, but the screen stays black and won't do anything. Usually, after fiddling with it for a bit, it randomly starts working again. However, the problem has become increasingly frequent.

Here's what happens:
I press the power button. It makes the little internal starting up noise, and the fan starts. The power button also lights up, but the other lights don't and the screen stays black, and it's not the "I'm trying to turn on" black. I mean the kind of black that it would be if the screen wasn't working.

Having said that, no, it's not a screen issue. When all the lights come on in my computer, I know it will work, but right now just the power light is on with none of the other ones, except the small ones at the bottom that say its plugged in and the powers on. It will work for weeks at a time, and then one day I will open it, and it won't completely wake up from sleep, so I will turn it off and it will do this for between 4 days and a week before randomly turning back on completely for a couple weeks. It feels like I am missing something really easy to do, but I also feel like it is really weird.

Other things:

Hello everyone,

My little more than one year old Satellite notebook won't turn on when I press the power button. The lights next to the button work, but the computer itself doesn't turn on (no HDD, no CPU).

I took it to a service, and today I called them - they're telling me that the video card overheated (and I didn't really understand, what I got out of it was that the soldered pins got detached) and that's what's causing the problem. They said they can solder it back for $250...

I'm a little skeptical, because I know that I can boot a [desktop] computer without a video card, at least to hear the HDD and the CPU.

Can it be possible that my computer doesn't boot because my video card is detached from the motherboard?

I'm also a little skeptical because I think what they're trying to do is rip me off, that's why I'm asking if this is reasonable. They charge me $30 bucks either way now that they opened my computer and "checked" what was wrong, and they walk away with even more money if they get me to agree to repair it...

My fear is that possibly they even fiddled with my video card now (let's say that the problem was a simple wire and they ruin the soldering on my video card...) just to get me to pay $250 bucks for the computer back.
If I choose to not repair this computer, they'll probably offer to buy it off of me for about the same price if not lower, and it's still a very good lapt... Read more

Ok so my laptop won't turn on at all now. No recent programs were installed. I changed the RAM, tried both slots. Took out the DVD drive an unplugged all devices. Took out the battery an pressed the power button to do a discharge, everything! I'm into tech also, but wanted to see if anyone hav any solution.
I left the laptop to sit for 2 weeks an forgot abt it. So I picked it an giv it a try. An it turned on suddenly, nice. Then I shut it down an try turning it on again. But it won't turn on.
The charger an battery light will show up. The battery usually last for a hour fully charged.
When I try turning it on an it wont work. I plug the charger in an battery light will show orange an like 10mins after it turns white, mean fully charged. Plugged out an try turning it on, plugged charger in the lights turn orange an the process keep going over.
Any help? Thanks in advance

Just a few suggestions, let me know which ones you've tried.
Have you tried the rest option? Power off the laptop, unplug the AC from the unit, remove the battery, press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, replace the battery and AC, power on, if you see the Toshiba logo, press the 'F2' key to enter the BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, and then boot into Windows.
Have you tried a boot disk option via the DVD or USB?

Hi everybody,

I do have a terrible problem with my notebook. It won't turn on. I had to press with all my power the power button for getting it to run.

The Chronology of my problem:
Initially it turned on when I pressed with a lot of force. But now it is not possible to bring energy in it. The power supply unit is functioning and the green light, which stands for power in the device, is permantly gleaming. I don't have a battery in use.

Only the notebook will not run.

So who can help me? How can I solve the problem by myself in order to avoid high costs?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Toshiba satellite 1900 won't turn on. Power button is probably defect.

Hi,

in my opinion it is impossible to repair this problem of your own because you didn't have the expierence and you can't order special parts!

It can also be that not only the power button is damaged but also other parts!

So please contact a Toshiba Service Partner!

I've read that the thing that destroys the battery fastest is overcharging the battery. That's why I want to turn it off. The only alternative that I have been able to find is unplugging the battery which means I have to restart machine from scratch, as opposed to waken it from sleep, every time I want to use it.

Is there a way to stop the battery from charging other than unplugging it?

Hi Forum,

I have a Toshiba L500 Laptop that suddenly stopped booting. When I try to boot it, it does not complete the POST process and there is no indication of what is wrong. The screen is just blank.

The fan turns on and I hear it spinning. Also, I momentarily hear the HDD spinning before it stops. I know there is power to the HDD, USB ports and the optical drive.

However, there is no power going to the keyboard as the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK LED does not light up after I press it.

I have tried testing the CMOS battery, changing the HDD and the F2 and BACKSPACE key test without any success.

I am interested to know:

1. In what sequence does the POST process test the attached devices/peripherals?
2. Are there any suggestions as to what might be faulty and how best to fix this?

Your assistance is much appreciated,
Worried

There are 3 external USB ports on this L500 modelPSLS6C-00F005. The one on the front right has developed a problem. Nothing is recognized when plugged in. An unrecognized device error pops randomly even with nothing plugged in to the front port. When the error pops the other 2 ports stop working momentarily. For instance the wired mouse I have connected to the working port will stop, then be re-detected. The trackpad always works.
While running windows 7, I fiddled with drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling USB components in device manager and I disabled the faulty device but the error returns. I found that disabling the usb hub component made the error go away. Unfortunately the other 2 ports are attached to the same hub so I lose all usb functionality.
I decided to try and do a fresh and clean install of Windows 10 in hopes of curing the USB issue but that didn't do the trick. I found I can turn off the annoying error notification and that the error is a bit more descriptive "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed) driver error.
Disabling the device in device manager seems to lessen the problem but in Windows 10 the device keeps getting re-enabled.
Does anybody have any idea what I might do towards correcting this issue, although I expect it's a hardware problem. Is there a way to permanently disable that one particular usb port?

I need a new keyboard for my L500 and found out, that the keyboad of the P200 (and some other models) seems to be the same (105 keys, num pad, 2 win keys). Are those keyboards 100% compatible or do they just look the same?

Hi

In my opinion this question is for Toshiba service and not for user-to-user forum.

Anyway I think that both keyboards are not the same and you should order 100% identical keyboard designed for your notebook model.

Question is: why do you look for keyboards for old notebook models if you can order new one for L500.
On eBay you can get it quite affordable.

I siply put it to l500 but it stacks at a point that shows again and again something about media test and more...

What i'm supposed to do?
Te strange (to me that i'm not very computer guy) is that at bios setting shows the model of the hard disk...
I mean that the l500 recognises the drive...please help me...

thanks in advance..

Answer:HDD swop from Satellite A300 to Satellite L500

Hi

Satellite A300 supports the same HDD like a Satellite L500. Both use the SATA HDD therefore the inserted HDD should work.
Its good sign, that the HDD is visible in BIOS. This means that HDD is recognized and in good condition.

I?m wondering what you have done after the HDD has been inserted.
Did you try to install the system using Toshiba recovery disk or another disk?
Did you try to format the HDD firstly?

Try to boot form the system disk and format the HDD firstly.
Then follow with system installation

I have a Satellite L500-02C and I install Windows 7 32bit from original version of 64bit to run application that wouldn't work on it. I have installed all drivers for the 32bit, but I am having trouble getting the drivers for the touchpad (synaptic) also the driver for the function keys. I have tried the Toshiba web site download from there but they don't work.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Re: Satellite L500-02C

Download and install the 32bit versions of the Toshiba Value Added Package and the Flashcards Support Utility from the L500 drivers page. 64bit version may not work.

my note book model is this one. When i buy this computer on last December. I install 32bit Window 7 . Then i found out the ram only used 2.84GB.

So i follow the toshiba webpage to recover my computer and upgrate to 64bit Window7. But final i found out the ram still 4GB (2.84GB used)

Thanks

Answer:4GB ram use on Satellite L500/049

Hi,

Not sure if it solves your problem but try:

Go Start-Control Panel-System security -Administrative tools- System configuration-Boot - advanced options
make sure that maximum Memory option is not checked. If it's checked, uncheck, press Apply, Ok and restart.

On the spesifications of the Satelite L500-1V1 it says that there is 4096MB DDR3 RAM with 1066MHz, but why is there only 533MHz in each card?

I don't suppose you have to multiply it with 2?

Answer:RAM MHZ on Satellite L500-1V1

Hi

As far as I know the notebook has been equipped with the DDR3 1066MHz (PC3-8500) 2GB modules?
There are two modules means notebook uses 4GB RAM.

But the 1066MHz can be reached only if the FSB (front side bus) would support 1066MHz too?

When I ran a diagnostic report on my laptop (Satellite L500-1XL) it said that my RAM was low and to upgrade it for better performance - it has been very slow to start up as of late.
However I have discovered that my model has been discontinued and I'm not sure what to do.
Any suggestions?

Bear in mind I am a total novice when it comes to computers so nothing too technical please!
Thank you.

Answer:Low RAM in Satellite L500-1XL

With more RAM your notebook will have better performance.
According notebook specification your notebook is delivered with 2 GB RAM but it can be upgraded up to 4 GB.

So buy second 2 GB RAM and upgrade your notebook.

Answer:Can I use SSD with my Satellite L500-1XC?

Of course you can use SSD. When you do this you will see how fast your notebook runs.
I recommend you Samsung 840 Series SSD. I use it with my Satellite notebook.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba L500-176 with Windows 7 Home Premium (64), only one month old and I have a problem with it.
Suddenly, it stopped connecting via wifi, I thought it would be to have installed or uninstalled a program and restores the system to a previous point where if it worked, but still did not detect connections, so I restored the former point, asin but I kept working.
I have tried to activate the wifi with the famous combination fn + f8 but as happens to many people is no particular combination appears on the screen (but on the keyboard). So look at the ConfigFree where it appears that the wlan connection is not available. "

The connections via ethernet cable running smoothly, but as withdrawal cord, no wifi option anywhere.

I tried to fix it with drivers available for this model but no way, as a last alternative format the computer to see if he returned to its original state, but still not working, the wifi light comes on only when you reboot, at first.

There a solution? why looking for information I've found many people with the same problem and few solutions.

PD: certainly in the device manager you see only the Realtek PCIe Controller Family. And right now I have no ethernet cable connected...

Hi,

As I see, you have made a factory restores settings but it is still not working. Also, it's not shown in device manager that makes me think that there is hardware malfunction related to wifi module. You said it's only one month and still under warranty. So, contact the Asp (service center) in your country:

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 - Will not switch on

Hi buddy,

Hmm... Properly it?s a hardware malfunction...

But in your case I would try this:
Remove the battery and AC/DC adapter. Then wait at least one hour and then connect battery and AC/DC adapter again. Make sure battery is charged and try to start the notebook.

Does it start now?

Last week I bought a brand new Satellite L 500 laptop with Inter i3 processor, 1 GB ATI graphic card, 4 GB ram, etc.
Everything is OK in general, however, I find the fan to be very very noisy.

I used to own a HP Pavillion laptop and could hardly notice the fan while with my new laptop the fan noise is really loud.
Does anybody know if this is normal or if this could be fixed somehow?

I researched the internet for a solution but I could not find any and apparently nobody is complaining about the fan noise on L 500 laptops so perhaps it is me only that have this problem?

Thanks.

Stefano

Answer:Satellite L500 and Fan Noise

For optimal notebook usage use ?Balanced? power plan. Go to advanced settings for this plan and in Toshiba power saver you can find ?Cooling method? option.
Reduce the level there. I am pretty sure notebooks fan will be much quieter than before.

Hi, I would like to get a new charger for Toshiba. My first charger got lost and the second charger that I bought from ebay 3 months ago for ?10,- has stopped working. Where can I get a charger from? I googled and I found couple of wesbites e.g.

http://www.electronicavenue.co.uk/toshiba-satellite-pro-l500-1d4-laptop-charger-6380-p.asp

Chargers cost around 25-30 GBP. I don't want anymore problems with a charger. I am already behind schedule...
Where can I get a good charger from or that is genuine. Any other suggestions are welcome

Thank you in advance

Answer:Where can I get new charger for Satellite Pro L500-1D4?

The charger you found is OK and I think you don't need original Toshiba charger.
If you want to have Toshiba one the part number is PA3716E-1AC3.

Check it out. Googling around you will find it.

Hello Everybody!
I am Tibor from Hungary. I am not a big forum user but now I would need a little help.

I have a Satellite L500-1GE and I use Windows 7 ultimate (64bit). My problem is the following:
I can not use the hotkeys (FN + F1..9 buttons) and so I can not switch on/off the wireless. It always work (the led of wireless always burn). I downloaded the value package, hotkey, accesibility driver but bootless. In base without drivers some application work (ESC, F1, F5, F6, F7) but I setup the value package nothing work.

The most important function for me it is the the wireless switching (FN + F8) because if it always work I can not use my notebook full accumlator capacity.

Could you help me about this problem?

Thanks so much for your help in advanced and I wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for the NeW Year!

Kind Regards,
Tibor

Answer:Satellite L500-1GE - Can't use hotkeys

Hi

For using the FN keys you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards supports utility. Make sure that both versions are released for Windows 7 64bit already. If you choose a Vista version it will not work!

Here you can download all:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Value Added Package must be installed firstly. ;)

Hi

My Satellite L500-1DT laptop won't start it goes into the start-up repair procedure automatically viewing the diagnostic and repair details it says it cannot determine what the problem is.
If I select the advanced options I am asked to select a key board but then I get a message that says you must logon on to gain access to the repair functions and all I can do then is reboot.

If I press F8 and try safe mode I just get the same repair features. I don't know what to do to proceed as all the options take me to the same place. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Answer:Satellite L500-1DT won't start

When you press F8 at start up can you see option ?Repair my computer??

Have you created recovery DVD?

I'm currently having issues with my Toshiba Satellite L500 series. The problem being, I can run purchased audio CDs, as well as DVD movies, but I can NOT run DVDrom games. Music CDs automatically start up Media Player just fine, as well as movies with their corresponding players.. DVDrom Games (such as Dragon Age Origins and Left 4 Dead) will not read, nor be recognized. When I go through "Computer" and try to access the game, it says "No disc available. Please insert disc into D: drive". So from what I'm understanding, the CD/DVD rom can not be completely broken if it is reading all types, except for DVDrom games.

Can someone PLEASE help me with this! It's rather frustrating since my computer is just now at a year old! I'd hate to think all computer companies sell computers that fall apart after a year.... I was hoping it was different with Toshiba.

Once again, CD/DVDrom can read CDs and DVD movies, but NOT DVDrom Games. Please help!!! Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite L500 - Can't run DVD-ROM games

Hi adecker,

Maybe it?s caused due the upper and lower filters in registry. You should try removing it as you can read in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

I had a similar problem that certain disks can?t be read anymore. So I went thorugh the forum and founded out to clean the CD/DVD drive lens by using a microfiber cloth. Be careful if you do this and don?t scratch the lens.
Check this!!!
