More repliesI recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hi,
I cannot get my Toshiba Satellite L500 13T PSLJ3E to work. Here is the timeline:
1. I brought it with Win Vista, It worked great for about 6 months but started slowing down and I decided to change it to Windows 7
2. I installed the Windows 7 using custom install(creating new "windows" folder, not upgrading Vista). Once again it worked great for about a month, but once again it ran into trouble - showing the Windows 7 version of the blue screen of death for 0.5 seconds followed by a restart.
3. I browsed the net and they said that the easiest way to get rid of the problem is to re-install. I did it(after trying several windows repairs) but yes, thats right, it died - before starting the windows it showed problems with Realtek Wireless.
4. I had hopes that third time - the charm will work and re-re-installed the W7(every time using new installation).
Once more time - doesnt work, but this time I cannot even get to install it - the windows installer stops at around 60% of the expanding files and says: problems with the media device. And after the restart I cannot find the Hard Drive(the BIOS shows only FDD and CD/DVD)
Now I'm stuck here, the only way to start the windows is by Safe Mode on my Wondows installed on point 3, yet not every time .
Unfortunately the first of my Recovery DVDs cannot start and on top of that I cannot enter into the recovery partition by pressing 0 at start up, but I see the Recovery Partition when I go to the WIndows in... Read more
Blue screen and then restart sound's like something with hardware is wrong. I had something like that when my RAM module failed. Check your memory using memtest.
PS. I will not recommend installing windows on windows and reinstalling it. Better format drive and install new clean OS.
edit: or maybe something with your hard drive - if you had an option pull out you hard drive and check it on another computer using HDtune (or something like that)

Hi !
Im looking for best gpu driver for my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 series
Drivers which AMD offers right now are super bad and driver which is connected with my model on toshiba website seems slow too. The best one i saw is the microsoft driver WDDM 1.1.
If you mind telling me is there any better driver for my GPU than the ones listed above?
Hi, I bought Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W and it came with Windows Vista. I tried to downgrade to XP, but it doesn't allow XP installation. Do you know how to downgrade?
Thanks!
Hello & Welcome, toshibaquestion.
Downgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP is actually a very easy thing to do, BUT, I must warn you; it's the smartest of ideas since Windows XP and Windows Vista differ in driver capability and efficiency. So when you want to you use your MIC or Webcam, they may not work, this goes for your Audio, Network and even Display.
Also, Toshiba's a popular brand, and also a very updated** one, meaning they'll most likely be packed with a webcam, nice wireless card, hi-def monitor, etc - meaning, lots more drivers for you to fuss about and have to replace - which, believe me, isn't fun at all.
Downgrading would require you to actually make a partition (D), then install XP on your partition (D), and then delete your previous partition (C) - This is how I would do it, but I'm sure there's many many many other ways.
Dabble into it abit, and see if you find anything interesting. I'll be here to answer any further questions you may have.

I have this laptop with 3 Partitions
The main partition got corrupted and apparently wiped so all windows folders have been deleted and a low level format carried out
I still have the recovery sector
Just wondering how to reinstall it back onto the main partition
I tried F8 and it took me to a screen to choose language but after that it said "You must log in to access system recovery options"
I guess user data has been wiped from the main partition ?
Are there any other keys to press on startup to access the Recovery partition ?
Thanks

Hello!
I've bought Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef November, and until now laptop worked brilliant. Three-four weeks ago, touchpad, and some space on the left of the touchpad started to be warm. I checked CPU temperature in Toshiba PC Health Monitor (v 1.4.1.64), and it was circa 30%, with 40% use of the cooler. The temperature is incresing in time, and now, after four weeks, touchpad is warmer, and it's about 45-50% temperature od CPU, with 50-60% use of the cooler.
I'm using laptop only for Internet, work in MS Word, and listening music, sometimes I play Warcraft III on it, I've got Windows 7.
Should I go with PC to technical support, or it's normal in my model?
Best regards,
sebastian krysiak

Hi mate
It?s nothing unusual that the touchpad would be warm since the CPU and cooling modules are placed near the touchpad.
So in my opinion you should not be worried about that.
The notebook?s temperature can increase after some time of usage?
This happens due to dust inside the cooling ventilators?
If you want, you can try to remove the dust using the compressed air spray?
I do this from time to time and this helps to keep the temperature on lower level?

Hi Forum-User,
Win10 compatibility list from Toshiba for Satellite Laptops without L500 Series! Why?
Look at:

At the moment just newer notebook models are supported for Win10. I am pretty sure that Toshiba will increase the support list and more and more models will be supported.

1 more repliesNo disply on my toshiba satellite L500,power supply led is getting on .
If you still get lights on the edge of the laptop & you can hear the fan spinning and harddisk clicking a bit but nothing at all is appearing on the display then it's either the screen or the power inverter that have gone. Either way it's not really something you can do yourself, take it to a technician to sort out. If you are not getting any lights, fan or clicking sound then it is a power issue - the LED doesn't necessarily mean that the power supply is ok. Again, not much you can do yourself, take it to an expert."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

Hi,
My L500 fan is no longer working correctly
I am getting this message
Warning:a problem with the cooling system has been detected. please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.
The fan runs inconsistently (always for a few seconds on start-up, very sporadically the rest of the time, but it is completely stationary for the most part.
The computer is currently in pieces, and I am ready to replace the fan with a new one, however im not sure that will fix the problem (as the fan still seems to sometimes run).

Please excuse the lack of link/PM (new member restrictions)
Are you going to replace the fan or the entire cooling heatsink and fan? Was the heatsink clogged with dust? Keep in mind, this also may be a motherboard issue

I have installed a Netgear wireless card in my old (2001)Toshiba Satellite laptop and after utility installation and reboot it requests for me to install the Win98se CD. Well I'm afraid that's not an option as it is long gone. What are my options at this point. I do not believe I have sufficient resources to install a new OS (XP or otherwise). Is the laptop looking for something I can access from the web, burn to a CD and then install?
MOD'S: Please feel free to move this to Networking if necessary. It was a toss up for me.
Try navigating into the WINDOWS folder, and look for a folder called CABS. Many W98 installations included the installation files on the disk.
If they're not there, do a search of the whole drive for *.CAB, you may find them in a different folder.
OK so i have just received an older laptop that im trying to resurrect.
O/S : Windows 7Model : Toshiba satellite L500 PSLS3A-04M002Battery model NO : PA3534U-1BRS
It died a few days ago and refuses to boot, press the power button -> power LED glows briefly and goes out.
As it's a smart battery you can't boot directly off the AC adaptor because it's expecting a signal over the SMBus (IIRC) power LED doesn't even light up with A/C only with the battery is removed.
I believe it's the battery.
First because i disassembled the laptop, cleaned it, and put it back together, nothing seemed wrong with other system components.
Second, it's only a small 3620mAh Li-ion that (AFAIK) hasn't been changed since the laptop was bought (roughly 2011/2012) so im thinking the charge cycles have been well and truly used up.
OK no problem, searched around online using the battery model number (above), found a replacement
Cool, battery's enroute, should be here in the next few days.
Now the interesting part... When i go on Toshiba's site to look for some specs/drivers... the Laptop model doesn't exist, even under the discontinued models section... But there are a whole bunch of other models :

For a start, turn off CAPS LOCK - it's considered to be shouting & many will ignore you.Did the laptop come with Windows 7 or have you installed it later? Are you sure there are drivers available for the wireless card - check the manufacturer's website if necessary. Some Toshiba laptops have a separate wireless switch on the front edge - if it's there make sure it is in the 'on' position. The usual key combination, as far as I recall, is Fn and F8 pressed at the same time (not F8 on its own) - there should be an LED that lights up on the front edge of the laptop when the wireless adapter is on."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." i am currently working in the alps and do not have an english speaking computer shop near by.
could any one help me and advise me what to do, i do not know much about taking a laptop apart to clean or change parts.
I would purchase a can of compressed air or use an air compressor (with a light gentle nozzle) and blow the dust out of the inside. If you have a failed cooling fan, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. That model I think is rather old, it may not be worth it to repair.
The HDMI port on my Satellite L500 laptop is not sending information to my sony bravia tv. All was working fine up until a couple of days ago. When i plug the hdmi lead into the port, it seems as if the laptop is aware it's plugged in as the screen flickers. The fn +F5 keys do as they should, but no picture appears on the tv. The tv shows a lead is plugged in also and again the screen flicks to say a source is there but then remains black. I can't see an issue in device manager and all drivers are saying they're up to date. I have also tried a new hdmi lead but nothing. Can anyone help with this?
Try running a System Restore back to a previous point when it was working.
If still not working uninstall and re-install the graphics drivers from the Toshiba Support site for your model.
What is it with Toshiba? The part number is clearly printed on the label on the underside of the laptop but the corresponding part number appears nowhere on the Toshiba support pages. This seems to occur with most Toshiba laptops that I have ever had anything to do with. Trying to find drivers, BIOS etc is a real PITA. I'm trying to find downloads for a Satellite L500 PSLS6A-00X013 but it doesn't show up any where. The serial number search is as useless as the part number search. Am I missing something?
More repliesHope I've got this in the right place.
Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"
This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.
I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hello
To be honest I don?t know 100% what your problem is.
If you want to watch DVD movie on your computer using Toshiba DVD player but the pic should be shown on the external display please do as follow:
When you have connected HDMI cable to external (other) screen, use FN+F5 and switch to this external display only. When you see desktop on the external display start Toshiba DVD player and I think everything should be OK.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 PSLS0A-019002 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed that I received two months ago as a gift.
Apart from disliking some the quirky and useless (to me) Windows Vista / 7 features, as the desktop is loading I get the error message "Toshiba Service Station has stopped working" which proceeds to find a solution, but apparently never finds one because this condition repeats itself every time I boot.
On another thread in these Toshiba forums, someone suggested downloading the independent utility called Toshiba Service Station and reinstalling it. I do not see such utility listed on the downloads page for my Toshiba model. Since I don't even know what the Toshiba Service Station does (unless it goes by another name - Toshiba Bulletin Board perhaps?), I have no idea what is causing the error or how to correct it.
Does anyone have a more precise solution?
Hi,
Service Station is not currently active in Australia, so you can simply uninstall it.
My L500 wants me to update my CD creator and when I do the computer tells me that it can only be done on 64 bit OS.
Which it should be preinstalled from Toshiba.
Sattelite L500 PSLS3E-01T00VN5)
Hi cba1,
Is this update necessary or can you ignore this update message?
In my opinion updates only necessary if something doesn?t work properly?
I don?t use Toshiba CD creator because there are some good alternative (freeware) programs, like CD Burner XP. Have you ever heard of that?
If not it?s worth a try!!! ;)

Are you using the Tempro tool in order to register the notebook?
If yes, then you should update this tool to the latest version v3.33
Check this:

I'm having a problem with a Toshiba Satellite L300D. After I reinstalled the HDD it would beep. To solve this I went into BIOS to look and see if the board had some sort of intrusion setting. When I exited the BIOS and restarted I know get the Enter Current Password (with a blue background on a black screen) with continuos beeps. The thing is it seems to auto enter in 10 characters (*) and then stop. There are no other options.
I have searched unsuccessfully for any info about this and I cant even find where the CMOS is located which I think is soldered onto the board.
Has anybody had any similar experience like this?
I would really appreciate any help its driving me crazy.

Hi,
Friend of mine runs a small farm supply business, he had three reps, he now has two. The third bought his own laptop on company credit card (allowed) it's a Toshiba Satellite L640. He handed it back in on his last day (unwillingly) friend tried to start it up and goes straight to a black screen with blue password box, can't F2 or F12 just goes straight to password, can't boot off CD. Former employee won't answer phone calls and not sure he would provide it anyway.
Help please?
You are going to have to reset the bios password which will involve dismantling the laptop. Is it still under warranty? I'm sure your friend has the proper documentation to prove he owns it, therefore, if it's still under warranty, he can get help from Toshiba.
If it is no longer under warranty, however, there are ways to reset the bios password, as I mentioned, but it will involve dismantling the laptop.
Have a laptop as above but the user has forgotten his password and the machine will not boot without the bios password, or an engineers password, any help would be appreciated even if i am better of getting an external usb floppy and trying a new bios flash as a last resort i would do this but i was hoping with all the techie's available here i would make this my first port of call. All help greatly appreciated Billyhl

4 more repliesI dont know how I did it but my computer always came on asked me for a password, well yesterday I turned it on from being shut down and it asked for the usual password, i entered it then it started windows. Then it stops and wants a username and another password, I have no idea what the password is and am not sure of the username. Its running windows seven and do sent seem to have anything wrong with it but somehow I must have switched the settings by accident, or brain fart.
Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated, also if I enter the incorrect username or password enough times will it lock up. I am nervous of doing something really hard to reset if I put in the wrong ones.
You need to get into safemode and run a virus scan. The login at the first boot of Windows is the only login credentials you should need and anything after that without extra enterprise level software could very well be a virus.

Anyone encounter this before? surely this is not a hack job.... how do you dive through the OS layers all the way to BIOS and setup a bogus pwd. Plus, in the Toshiba world, the HDD password has to match an Administrator boot password... neither of which have ever been setup on this system.

You?ll have to take the laptop to the authorized center. A certified technician has to call Toshiba and get the special code to unlock the laptop.
I have tried many ways to unlock a password protected hard drive, and its no go.
You will have to replace the hard drive- the cmos battery will not help the hard drive problem.
Hello.
My son has bought a new toshiba satellite pro C650 laptop from a shop.
It boots into win 7 desktop, but it wont let us do anything on it,we try to register password,no good, then try user account password, but no good, also we can't get to administrator.
It has several big icons on the right hand side of screen as well, which i assume the shop put on there as advertising,so we need to get rid of them as well, but at the moment we can't do anything.
we have registered the laptop with toshiba okay.
Could anyone tell us how to activate this laptop please?
Thanks.

There is an old trick that might work here. I don't know that laptop model off the top of my head but with what I can tell you, maybe you can research a bit and find out where it is. Unplug the laptop and take the battery out. Then, remove the CMOS battery and leave it all unplugged for about 20 minutes (just in case) and put everything back together. This will reset the BIOS for you where no password is needed. Jonas "Jackal" Learhttp://www.sbccrew.comServing the South Bay Since 1999

I am not sure how much help I can give regarding this but certain Toshiba's BIOS passwords can be reset by shorting two solder points. I would remove the main battery first.
Just Google Toshiba (your model number) password reset. This should get you going.

At first I must say this is user-to-user forum so this with bills and copies will not work here. Maybe you should contact your local dealer or authorized Toshiba service.
I really don't know what you have done but fact is that Toshiba notebooks are not delivered with any passwords and restrictions. When you get new notebook everything is ?open? and you can create own accounts (during setup procedure at first start-up) and passwords.
I am afraid you have done something wrong and now you get this password request.
Can you, maybe sent a screenshot of your desktop when this request is shown?
Hello i have a toshiba satellite L305 with a built in hdd user password that i need to remove. Is there a way to remove hdd password?
Yes there is.Contact Toshiba and be prepared to prove you are the original owner.Questions like this are asked everyday on this forum.

I have a problem setting My Toshiba manager password in the Toshiba Assistant Utility or software.
Hi
Maybe you could post more details?
What password do you want to set?
As far as I know the Toshiba Assist -> Secure tab provides two passwords:
Supervisor password and User password
The Supervisor password can be set in Toshiba Assist -> Secure tab -> Supervisor Password Utility
The User password can be set in Toshiba HWSetup -> Password tab
Yesterday i left my laptop in sleep mode after work. When I started today morning, it requested for password. I never put any password for BIOS and never changed any setting. Currently, its not booting.
Just after switching on, screen pops up with "Enter Password".
I tried to check online but i did not find any clue. Can anyone suggest how to fix it?
Hello Srikant
As far as I know the system settings like BIOS password cannot be set from alone and by configuration the password must be entered two times (password confirmation).
Has anyone access to your machine?
I’m afraid someone has set password on your machine without your knowledge.

More repliesHello,
i was wondering if someone could tell me why when reseting the bios password via jumpers on motherboard is it stated that 1 of the 2 memory sticks should be left in the FIRST slot (the one furthest from motherboard)?
I ask because the top/FIRST memory slot on the motherboard of my laptop (please see title) is broken.
Can I perform try to reset by leaving a memory stick in the second slot (closest to the motherboard)?
Many many thanks

2. If you KNOW the password this is the procedure
http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Comput...-UEFI-BIOS-or-HDD-hard-disk-drive/ta-p/407769
If you know the password for the BIOS or UEFI or don't have one set, you can change or remove a password through the UEFI/BIOS settings, Hardware Setup Utility, or TOSHIBA Security Assist Utility.
As explained on the link with the sub links to the appropriate OS
3. The procedure you appear to refer to, irrespective of where you found it is - I would think part of a suggested method when you do NOT know the password.

Hi. Does anyone know how to reset the BIOS password for a Toshiba Satellite C660D 19X please? There are a number of very good YouTube videos for almost identical models, but they don't work on this one. The motherboard has changed a bit, and the reset jumpers don't seem to be in quite the same place, if they still exist. This video very nearly has the answer, but it's not quite right for the particular model variant I need:
LINK REMOVED BY MOD
I think it's very likely there is a similar answer to this problem - it just needs the right person to answer it. Thanks.
You want to reset it, or remove it? Once you enter the original password, there should be an option to do either, but I am not familiar with Toshiba's bios. But you will need the original password.

Why do i get a enter password screen on my Toshiba Satellite laptop on start up, how do I unlock it, I got this laptop from a lady and when I turned it on it was locked with this screen and I don't knoe how to unlock it, can some one give me a solution, and why did this happen.
To unlock the laptop, you type the ladies password. Once unlocked, create your own login with your own password.

All, bought my laptop in Jul06 and cannot remember any details of the Toshiba set-up sequence and can't find any notes I made :-( My question is does the standard Toshiba WinXP set-up out of the box ask me to set-up a password for the WinXP administrator account 'cause I can remember it doing so?
Is this my bad memory or was I not prompted and there is some Toshiba default? I ask now as need it and have abosolutely no idea what it is!!!!
Yours Respectfully, Mr A. Fool.
I have recovered my Satellite notebook 2 weeks ago and I?m sure that the setup has asked me to set the admin password.
You have simply go through the setup procedure and sometime the admin password box will appear?
I haven't used my Toshiba Laptop in a few years and now when I try to use it its asking for a bios password and I have no idea what it is. I've looked up solutions to this on google and they say the bios password needs to be reset. I've seen lots of tutorials on YouTube on how to do it, but none of them help with the exact layout of the mother board I have. Could anyone help?
howdy and welcome. We do not assist with bypassing passwords here. You may want to re-read the rules page.
As a result, I'm going to close this one up.

Laptop running Vista abruptly developed a password requirement - it was just a light blue screen with a box to input a password. Everything I entered was wrong, and attempting to start the Satellite by tapping F8 or with a Vista disc brought up that same screen.I bit of internet investigation showed that Toshiba laptops can be prone to this behavior, and that there's not much to be done other than resetting the BIOS. I started stripping down the laptop and got frustrated when I finally saw that the CMOS battery was soldered to the motherboard without a pin connection that could be unplugged. I soldiered on and saw many webpages that instructed people with a method to short out the BIOS using a jumper.I unplugged the laptop, removed the battery, HDD, and memory, and used a pair of needle nose pliers to touch this area under the RAM while simultaneously touching a metal bar. I plugged in the laptop and turned it on while continuing to make contact, holding it for about 30 seconds.I unplugged, reconnected the RAM, the HDD, the battery and the power cord, turned it on and was prepared to be amazed.Instead I got nothing. No video at all. The machine DID turn on - I could see the proper lights turned on, and the fan was whirring, but no video or sound.I then connected the laptop to an external monitor. Nothing. I pressed the proper keys (fn + F5) to toggle between the laptop display and the monitor. Nothing. Is there anythin... Read more
I'd open it up and make sure that all cables are properly attached such as the video cable.

Hello everyone,
I've just bought a Satellite A300 - 1MC (model no. PSAG8E-00W00TEN) and i'm trying to use the Toshiba Assist software, but its asking me for a password and i have no idea what it is or where i can find it.
Any suggestions?
Also slightly off topic, the laptop has buttons for controlling media player, is there anyway i can change them to control iTunes?
Cheers

Have you tried to make an update of Toshiba Assist? A new version and all other Toshiba stuff you can find here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Maybe the update will solve the problem.
About the control buttons? I think you must set iTunes as standard media player and select all file with playing iTunes.
Hi,My brother's Laptop refuses to start up, It won't even let me get into Safe Mode by pressing F8, I have to hold the power on button but when I let go the power light comes on for about a second but then disappears. This happened after It asked him to do a System Restore at start-up, but then it didn't boot up after that, Any help?
did he make the recovery disks?if not try holding down the 0 button while powering up.keep the 0 button held down and see if you can get the repair screen up that way.you will need to have the ac adapter plugged in.

Hi, dude
As I understand, pressing Fn+F8, it's not displayed. Please, go to the Toshiba driver page <a href=http://smiles2k.net/><img src=http://i.smiles2k.net/lol_smiles/1_011.gif border=0></a>
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
And update (reinstall) the Vap utility and flashcard support. It should work.
also, try restart Toshiba Flash Cards (start > all programs > Toshiba) and press the FN keys several times

Hi Forum,
I have a Toshiba L500 Laptop that suddenly stopped booting. When I try to boot it, it does not complete the POST process and there is no indication of what is wrong. The screen is just blank.
The fan turns on and I hear it spinning. Also, I momentarily hear the HDD spinning before it stops. I know there is power to the HDD, USB ports and the optical drive.
However, there is no power going to the keyboard as the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK LED does not light up after I press it.
I have tried testing the CMOS battery, changing the HDD and the F2 and BACKSPACE key test without any success.
I am interested to know:
1. In what sequence does the POST process test the attached devices/peripherals?
2. Are there any suggestions as to what might be faulty and how best to fix this?
Your assistance is much appreciated,
Worried
A few months ago, i installed XP onto a system i fixed (mobo was changed) A couple of days ago, a power failure happened, and the PC was shut down. Now when it is started, it comes to a login screen requesting for a password. I had never put a password on the machine, and we have tried everything we could think of that might be a password.
This was a clean install of WinXP onto the system, and only one user account.
There are 3 external USB ports on this L500 modelPSLS6C-00F005. The one on the front right has developed a problem. Nothing is recognized when plugged in. An unrecognized device error pops randomly even with nothing plugged in to the front port. When the error pops the other 2 ports stop working momentarily. For instance the wired mouse I have connected to the working port will stop, then be re-detected. The trackpad always works.
While running windows 7, I fiddled with drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling USB components in device manager and I disabled the faulty device but the error returns. I found that disabling the usb hub component made the error go away. Unfortunately the other 2 ports are attached to the same hub so I lose all usb functionality.
I decided to try and do a fresh and clean install of Windows 10 in hopes of curing the USB issue but that didn't do the trick. I found I can turn off the annoying error notification and that the error is a bit more descriptive "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed) driver error.
Disabling the device in device manager seems to lessen the problem but in Windows 10 the device keeps getting re-enabled.
Does anybody have any idea what I might do towards correcting this issue, although I expect it's a hardware problem. Is there a way to permanently disable that one particular usb port?
Hi there,
I reinstalled Windows 7 (from a Windows 7 disk not the Toshiba recovery files).
And everything was working fine, but after restarting once after some updates the mouse and keyboard stopped working!
I found I could get the keyboard to work by pushing the power button to send it to sleep then waking it up, but then the mouse still didn't work.
I can push F2 on the keyboard to get into the BIOS, but can't navigate in it (but can with a USB keyboard.)
Mouse and keyboard don't work in safe mode even.
USB keyboards and mice work fine all the time.
The laptop is a
Satellite L500D PSLT0C-00F002
I really don't understand would could cause this all of a sudden!
Could anyone tell me how to reinstall a windows component (bing /silverlight) I sent the 64bit unit away for repair its returned with a 32bit O/s & different COA number, although the original one still on the case..I have a OEM recovery disk 32bit Cd the 64bit one was on a Hd partition for recovery this Hd went belly up within 12 days.I did a back up to create a recovery media but this turned out to be corrupt due to HD bad sectors /over heating etc..TIA
decided to bin whats on it & reinstall the 64bit version...Thanks
1 more repliesHi,
I am trying to install windows 7 onto a Toshiba satellite L500.
It copies the files, expands, reboots. then is says it is installing the registry.
about 30 seconds into installing system services the screen turns black, as if their is no signal.
any help???
Installing from where? A DVD? Did you format the drive before installing it? Did the laptop work fine before you started the reinstall or was there a problem that made you do this?

Hi all,
I was uninstalling AVG and my syatem would get the BSOD and xrash before I completed it.
Eventuallt my whole system crashed and all I get is a message on a black screen fron Phoenix Technologies aaying 'Boot from BBS-harddisk'.
Anyone know what this means and if this screen can be bypassed. I can't use f2, f8 or f12.
Help!
please.
Hi, I did a lookup on that and it is related to the hard drive. BBs mean Bios Boot Specification
The recommendation is to unscrew the cover over the hard drive and remove the drive. Then replace it and make sure it seated snug. Put the cover back and reboot. Let us know how it goes.
I need a new keyboard for my L500 and found out, that the keyboad of the P200 (and some other models) seems to be the same (105 keys, num pad, 2 win keys). Are those keyboards 100% compatible or do they just look the same?
Hi
In my opinion this question is for Toshiba service and not for user-to-user forum.
Anyway I think that both keyboards are not the same and you should order 100% identical keyboard designed for your notebook model.
Question is: why do you look for keyboards for old notebook models if you can order new one for L500.
On eBay you can get it quite affordable.
Lets start off with this statement, so I don't get a load of replies on how to clear the BIOS PASSWORD. This is the SUPERVISOR Password which is set via the "Toshiba Supervisor Password Utility". So removing the CMOS battery/using the jumpers under the memory won't work in this case.
I have a couple of P755 and A665 laptops that I've repaired, however they have the SUPERVISOR password enabled with various degrees of security enabled in the BIOS.
After hours of google searching and pouring over the internet and looking at schematics for the Compal LA-6061p and LA-6062p motherboards (which are near identical in layout) it appears that there is no "master password" for the SUPERVISOR Password. It would appear that the password is stored in the EEPROM chip which is where I'm unsure which chip it is on the Motherboard for these laptop series.
From what I gather you can do the "not so safe" thing of shorting out the EEPROM chip during boot cycle. Failing that I can simply replace EEPROM chip, if I know which chip to replace, off of a donor motherboard.
So does anyone know a way to get past the Supervisor Password either by jumper points on the motherboard, shorting the EEPROM chip or simply the chip location on the MB?
hi there!!
i had a toshiba satellite a300 that unfortunately died... i want to take the hard disk drive from it an put it on my cousin's toshiba satellite l500 laptop...
I siply put it to l500 but it stacks at a point that shows again and again something about media test and more...
What i'm supposed to do?
Te strange (to me that i'm not very computer guy) is that at bios setting shows the model of the hard disk...
I mean that the l500 recognises the drive...please help me...
thanks in advance..
Hi
Satellite A300 supports the same HDD like a Satellite L500. Both use the SATA HDD therefore the inserted HDD should work.
Its good sign, that the HDD is visible in BIOS. This means that HDD is recognized and in good condition.
I?m wondering what you have done after the HDD has been inserted.
Did you try to install the system using Toshiba recovery disk or another disk?
Did you try to format the HDD firstly?
Try to boot form the system disk and format the HDD firstly.
Then follow with system installation
This is for my sister-in-law. She has a desktop w/ Vista Home Basic. Yesterday she updated Security Shield for 2010. Computer worked OK, then she shut it down. She started the computer today, and it asked for a password when it normally never does. She tried just hitting "Enter" - no luck. She tried Safe Mode - no luck. She called the Security Shield people - they said they could not help. Also called Microsoft - they gave her some things to look into, which she is trying but no luck so far. Her regular computer guy can't see her quickly. Is there anything else you can suggest? And why did this happen? I'd like to know so it won't happen to me. Thanks in advance.

if not - we will move to the Virus/Malware forum for one of the Authorised experts to review
Please note the following:
I would suggest running some of the more common malware removal tools - this is NOT the full cleaning process, However, often the following may resolve some of the very common malware.
The following programs will remove the most common malware and so at the end of the process , the PC maybe clean. If not , then we need to move to the virus/malware forum for a specialist to review.
Do NOT install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners unless told to do so.
I would advise backing up all your important documents, personal data files and photos to an externl source DVD/CD or external hard drive.

I own Hp Envy 17 and the Bios Hp uses (insyde) has extremely limited options and I would like to change things in bios including to disable the Nvidia card because its causing conflicts for the OS I am trying to install.Because of this stupid bios HP installs on consumer laptops I am resorting to disassembling my new laptop (voiding my warranty) and try to physically disable the card.I am posting this to voice how this bios is a very stupid move from HP and to show HP what the limited bios is making us resort to? and also to say I am NEVER going to buy an HP product again (recommending my friends also not to) just because of this Bios?

When I turn on my laptop it now requests a password to be entered just after the loading screen as soon as its turned on. Any help?
Do you mean really the BIOS password?
Well, this is very bad because the BIOS password cannot be cancelled on the easy way.
You have to contact the ASP in your country!!!
The technician will be able to help you and please note that only the authorized Toshiba service technician can remove the BIOS password!!
Hi all,
I need your help here please, my wifes Equium M50-244 just froze after 15 min. I thought taking the battery out would fix the problem, only now when you turn on laptop I get blue screen and a request for password that was not supplyed with computer.
Can anyone help before she beats the life out of me (she?s big).
Hi friend,
I hope you?re still alive and your wife didn?t already beat everything out from you :)
Please give some more information about your problem. Did it appear the first time? And which OS do you have? Did you recently updated some drivers or installed some new hardware?
And whats that with this password?? I mean a password does not appear just from the nowhere!? Where is this password? BIOS or Windows?
Man, give some exact questions with many informations, so people here can help you.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.
When I tried to log on today, I was asked for a Windows password. I have never set a password, hence the confusion.
I checked out a number of possible solutions but did not get anywhere.
Then I remembered I have an old HDD on the same machine. It was giving so much trouble some years ago that I was advised to buy a new HDD.
The old HDD also has Windows 7 Home Premium.
I was trying a possible solution I had found online. I was trying to get into safe mode via F8 but only got the boot sequence. I changed the boot sequence so that the desktop boots to the old HDD and that is where I am now.
I want to remove the password protection so that I can revert to my other HDD which has new programs and data.
My technical knowledge is minimal. I shall be grateful for any advice offered.
Thank you.
Sorry but our rules clearly state that we don't help with password issues.

1 more repliesI have a laptop which I want(ed) to format and reload, but when I started it up, it shows the Toshiba screen, then immediately black screen requesting password, doesn't even go near Windows boot.
Laptop:
Toshiba Tecra A8
Here's what I tried already after reading through some threads:
1. Hold down left Shift when powering on
2. Insert bootable disk (Linux Mint) and press F12 at Toshiba screen
3. Insert bootable disk (Linux Mint) and press "c" at Toshiba screen
4. Insert bootable disk (Linux Mint) and press Esc when powering on
5. Replace HDD with my own
None of the above resulted in anything different than the original problem.
If anyone can help, will be highly appreciated!
Does this password looks like a BIOS password?
If yes then you've got bad chances... the point is that you will be no table to remove this password without an additional help from Toshiba ASP.
I don't know why the BIOS password is requested but the ASP should remove this password and should update the BIOS to prevent such further issues.
So contact the ASP in your country and ask for the further handling.
Good luck
Hi all,Sorry if this has been asked by someone else but I couldn't find anything. Please direct me to the link if so.However, my sister in law's computer runs on Windows XP and, for some reason, upon booting up her computer a few weeks ago, an enter password box came up before it would actually load up Windows XP. She says she has never created any sort of startup password and can't understand where this has come from. She says she has also tried starting up in Safe Mode, but it still apparently asks for this password to be entered. She therefore can't even get into Windows XP to access her desktop and look at her settings. I think there is only her and her husband registered to use the computer anyway and neither have created any passwords to prevent windows even loading up. Does anyone have any ideas that she could try? Thanks for your time.
clicking next without entering anything in the password box -if no password set it should take you on OK - I think you can get rid of the box under user settings in control panel
