Satellite L50D: no video sound after installation of MS Essentials 2012

Question: Satellite L50D: no video sound after installation of MS Essentials 2012

My new laptop has never recorded sound for SKYPE Video Messaging.
Bit annoying, as Skype video calls and other similar apps, no problems with microphones/sound etc.

Since downloading Windows Essential 2012 I have no sound for any videos that previously worked fine. Specifically I wanted to use Movie Maker. Do I need an updated sound card?

I have deinstalled and reinstalled and it is the same story every time.
NO SOUND.

Any help appreciated thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L50D: no video sound after installation of MS Essentials 2012

Could you explain your issue precisely? What is wrong with the sound exactly?
Is the problem with particular video file format using the Movie Maker only?
Or do you have sound watching for example Youtube videos and DVD movies?

i got a L50D-C-12Z,laptophow to install windows 10 from usb?

Answer:Windows 10 installation on Satellite L50D-C-12Z

In my opinion you should check if your notebook is supported for Win10 at first and after doing this install automatic update.

You want to install clean Win10 version, right? Have you checked if all drivers, tools and utilities are available for your notebook model?

About two years ago I bought a T Satellite L50D-B-160.

With the famous update of WIndows 8.1 to windows 10 free I deleted the partition of the hard disk in which is the recovery of the system of the laptop.

Right now I have tried to reinstall Windows 8.1, although most of the drivers have had to install manually. But the computer is not doing well. It does not go smoothly, like the first day.

I need to know if I can acquire the original partition in some way to be able to format the system and restore it to the factory, so that everything goes again fluid, or can someone give me a solution ????

I have already formatted and installed windows 8.1 (since windows 10 does not go fluid) and everything remains the same, slow, very slow.

PLEASE, I need a solution. It is my 3rd Toshiba, I am loyal to the brand, and this problem is killing me.

Hello there! I have been trying to install Windows Essentials 2012: Movie Maker for the entire day today. However thou, no matter how many times I try to install-reinstall-reboot-reinstall, the installation process stops at 80%.

Does anybody here experienced the same issue? I could really use some help. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Windows Essentials 2012 installation stuck

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I just downloaded it last night and didn't have any issues with the Custom install of just Movie maker and Photo gallery :/
Is that how you installed it or did you install the entire package ?

I'm having issues with the sound on my laptop.

It was working to begin with, but whenever I moved the laptop, or my hand caught the HDMI slot on the right, it would stop, and after a while start again.

Now it's stopped completely, and I cant get it working.
I've tried other suggestions such as disabling the devices, restarting, and troubleshooting, and that hasn't worked. I've also reinstalled the drivers, and that didn't work.

I've only had it a day, so don't really want to send it back unless necessary.

Does anyone have any tips that might be able to resolve it without sending back?

Cheers

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-13C - sound stopped working

Update: The sound plays through headphones, but not the laptops speakers. I reset settings, and still didn't work, so I've sorted out a return.

Another (possible) fault I found was that when plugging into a TV with HDMI, the sound wouldn't play through the TV. I assume that's a fault as HDMI should carry sound. Any advice on that, as I'll be getting a replacement, and would like to know if it's an actual fault or not for when it turns up.

Cheers.

I bought my Toshiba Satellite L50D-B013 almost 2 weeks ago, playing fine, all of a sudden yesterday, anything i play, the sound will not work. The videos play, just without sound. I haven't changed any settings, I don't have any external chips etc. I ran a virus check to see if that was the cause but didn't come up with anything. I have noticed it will however play through earphones!

Can anyone help me out please? Or do i need to take back in?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L50D-B013 wont play sound

Click please with right mouse button on sound symbol and choose option ?playback devices?.
There you will see listed device ?Speakers?. Please be sure it is set as default device and also properly enabled.

Video drivers stopped working approx 1 month ago.

the backup partition is corrupt.... so no luck there.

I have reinstalled windows and downloaded the specific drivers (all from Toshiba). all work except these video drivers.
I've even downloaded and tried the all legacy and crimson drivers from AMD

it always results in a black screen after they have installed.
Toshiba want ?42.50 for recovery media (which i shouldnt have to pay for for video drivers alone)

Any ideas why the drivers cause this black screen??

Toshiba claim its a software issue..... after maybe 20 different drivers, i'm not sure anymore

My school gives us server 2012 standard for free. I am wondering if it's possible to install it as 2012 essentials with the same features as essentials kind of like how win pro had every thing home had. Or are the features of server essentials not included in standard? (Features like full pc back up and the dashboard like whs 2011)

Answer:can you setup server 2012 standard as 2012 essentials?

Different media for the install, Server Standard and Datacenter use the same media. Essentials has it's own install disk and Foundation and Storage Server share the same media.

Hi there
Unfortunately it's currently (or seems) currently impossible to get Video to play in the IE version shipped with IE10.

Even when you get it pinned to the taskbar and can launch it from the desktop --when you try and get Adobe flash player this is what appears. (screen shot enc).

You also get a message saying Flash player already included in this version of IE - but there isn't (or at least I haven't found any) method of enabling it.

Note this is IE10 included with WINDOWS 2012 SERVER (not the WINDOWS 8 version). Now as Windows 2012 server is a RELEASE CANDIDATE this potentially means the same error could appear on IE10 when Windows 8 finally ships.

Also note that I WAS in DESKTOP mode too !!!!.

(It's not a mega issue here as this is a SERVER which I'll eventually run from POWERSHELL command line --no GUI (don't confuse with Windows CLASSIC SHELL which is a 3rd party add on to bring Menu back to W8 (and W2012 server --works too) etc. ).

Cheers

Hi Jimbo. Sorry to read of your frustration!

I'm confused (which at my age is not unusual). Correct me if I'm wrong. The current IE10 should be IE10 in any release, shouldn't it? I don't know diddly about writing and don't pretend to know. Doesn't one, when writing an OS, just take a program or object (if that's the correct term) and include it in?

In windows 8, I've noticed a difference between IE10 in Metro verses desktop. I checked in both UIs and they are both the same version of IE10. In Metro it's treated as a Metro app. In desktop it's the IE we're all familiar with. Also, I've never had a problem playing videos via IE10, whether YouTube or elsewhere. Although, if I remember correctly, I was surfing one day in Metro IE and came upon a page that warned that I needed Adobe Flash to view a video. So I proceeded to go to the Adobe site to download, but then it stated that "This version of Flash is not compatible with your version on IE", which I thought was strange.

After reading your 1st post here, I did some investigating and found this in my IE addons:

Hi there
the version of IE10 shipped with Server 2012 seems to have a defect -- can't play video from web sites -- sound is fine.

Not sure if this is actually a real problem as you don't usually do much browsing on a server -- but as this version of IE10 is nearer RTM than that shipped with W8 - this *Could* become a problem. (The current version of Windows 2012 is the Release Candidate).

The main problem is that IE only launches from the METRO screen --you can pin it to the taskbar but I haven't as yet been able to find any addons that make the video play. (The IE here doesn't function like the metro version on W8 -- it's Windowed with menus etc like the standard desktop version).

Since I'm going to be running VM's with HYPER-V and won't be using the GUI version of W 2012 this isn't a major problem but it could be to others.

Cheers

Hi
I am working with windows 8 and I have installed SQL server 2007 and visual studio 2010. Now I want to upgrade these setups to SQL server 2012 and visual studio 2012. what is the advantages of what i want to do and how can i do it easily without corrupting the operating system? Please help.

Answer:Installation of sql server 2012 and visual studio 2012

SQL Server has an upgrade option that is pretty painless. Just run the setup file from your 2012 installation media and click the upgrade option. It will ask you what instance to upgrade, run some checks, and then upgrade it for you.

Visual Studio is a little different. If you install 2012 without uninstalling 2010 first, you will simply just have both versions to choose from. You can completely uninstall 2010 before installing 2012 by finding your 2010 installation file and adding the uninstall and force switches when running it(ex. "C:\vs_ultimate.exe /uninstall /force").

If you keep 2010, 2012 will ask you if you wish to import your settings and whatnot from 2010. If you uninstall 2010, 2012 will just have it all when you open it for the first time.

My sound distorts after i install virtual sound, it is driving me mad. I downloaded all the toshiba drivers.

Answer:Sound distortion after virtual sound installation on Satellite A80

Hi,

did you setup your own system (not the recovery cd OS)?
Normally you should uninstall the virtual sound and all sound related devices at the device manager, then start with the sound driver and after that virtual sound again!

Unless it worked you have a bigger problem. Then I would suggest to setup a new system with the recovery CD. But save all your important data before!!!

My L50D is only one month old and loving it BUT it has started turning itself off when I am not using it for a few minutes - not timed it but seems to be about 5 mins. Then I cannot turn it on - black screen - cap lock and number keys light up

I saw some similar problems on looking at this web but not for this model - those forum answers suggested removing battery, rebooting with no power etc.etc. it all seems wrong to have to be doing that sort of thing with a new computer.

What is happening and how can I fix it - I did send an e mail message to Toshiba via their contact us key on this site but they replied back to put my problem on the forum - again does not seem the right way to do things.

Any help out there? Please.

Hi all,

I have two problems with my new laptop (L50D-B-17K). I have installed Windows 7 64bits:

1- USB 3.0 (right side) ports does not work after install USB Driver available in Toshiba Support website.
In Device Manager appears an unkown device: "Other Devices - Universal Serial Bus controller"

Where is the driver valid for USB 2.0 ports??

------ USB 2.0 (left side) runs successfully --------

2- I can not adjust display brightness using fn + F2/F3.

When i press fn + [f2-f3] adjusting icon appears at top of display but the brightness does not change (no more no less), always the same brightness.

Also i installed display and keyboard drivers available at Toshiba support website.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Jes?s.

Answer:Two issues with my Satellite L50D-B-17K

Hi

The USB 3.0 driver from AMD is neccesary and required to get the USB 3.0 ports working.
The driver can be found on the Toshiba EU driver page (i guess you installed this driver):

To get USB 2.0 ports working, you have to install the AMD chipset driver (...its part of the display driver package)

Regarding the brightness function key:
You have to install the VAP (value added package) in order to use the FN keys.
Of course the display driver must be installed too (as suggested above)

I bought my laptop 2 days ago and I needed to enable the virtual technology or AMD-v, the thing is that I have and AMD processor and to do so I have to enable it on the BIOS, but I can't find the option on the Toshiba BIOS Setup Utility,

maybe there is any way to access the BIOS without the Setup Utility or something.
I've ran ran some tests to make sure that my laptop offers this option and it does, I just need to know how to activate it.

Any kind of help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-151 VT-x/AMD-x problem

The notebook was equipped with the AMD Beema Quad-Core Mobile CPU A8-6410 and according to AMD specification page, this CPU supports VT.

I’m not quite sure about this notebook model but I guess that such feature should be enabled by default, if BIOS does not contain a specific VT (on/off) option.

Hi ,

I have formatted a Satalite L50D-B-16R and installed windows 7 (32bit) on it. Unfortunately it doesn't provide most of the drivers I need (wifi adaptor, Lan, for example).

I have visited the download section on the toshiba website and can locate the drivers I need, unfortunately none of the download links work and they all time out with a 505 error.

Is there an alternative site or mirror site I can grab these files from?

Hello

I have a problem with my L50D-B-146 not turning on. Very rarely when I do try to turn it on it works. Once I did manage to turn it on I tried to upgrade the Bios to 1.6 from 1.2, but because you have to restart your laptop to complete the installation I couldn't as It doesn't turn on 99% of the time. The laptop didn't turn on before I tried the Bios upgrade so it is not the fault of the failed installation. Also when I do manage to turn it on Windows works perfectly fine, until I have to turn it off again.

When I do try to turn it on the power button light works and you can hear the fan, otherwise you cant even see the Toshiba Leading Innovation screen, so I don't think it is Window's fault. Again I repeat that you can turn it on every so often but very rarely. Also it is not the fault of the monitor as I connected the laptop to an external screen, and still there was a problem.

I would be very grateful for any solution to this problem

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-146 is not turning on

Solution to this problem?
I don't know if someone here can offer virtual diagnostic and offer well working solution.
Such problem where machine sometimes works is not easy to understand. Such notebook behaviour must be analysed and maybe tested with diagnostic tools.

What we can do here is just to speculate what the problem may be. It sounds like BIOS related issue. For some reason, from time to time your machine cannot pass BIOS hardware check.

Have you already contacted Toshiba services and asked for help?

Here's a new one for ya.

I have 2 accounts: admin & limited. I use the limited.

Upgraded from live essentials 2011 to essentials 2012. had mesh, skydrive, photo gallery/movie maker, and outlook hotmail connector.

The upgrade updated skydrive, outlook connector, and photogallery/movie maker, and removed mesh, as to be expected.

logged into limited account to access photo gallery and got this:

Went back to admin account and repaired it. It mentioned that a file corruption was preventing the repair. So I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, restarted, logged into admin, and accessed photo gallery. Worked fine.

Went into limited account again with the same error. It does eventually start up, but you have to click OK 5 times to make the error disappear.

If someone knows a fix, let me know. I'll keep trying to work it through, and I'll post what I find.

This is the 'corrupt profile error' when I try to repair:

Answer:Essentials 2012 error

Well, uninstalled every aspect of essentials, including outlook connectors and skydrive, then Ccleanered it up. Got it working after 2 days. MS fix-its and suggestions didn't work. But, I'm happy now.

I got bored and cancelled the process and now the windows all user install service agent wont work, I cant log onto and internet connection won't come to my apps I have install.

Do I have to refresh my computer or anything else?

Thanks

Answer:Help with WIndows Essentials 2012

A refresh would be your easiest option. Remember that a refresh will remove any installed apps that were not pre-installed on the system and your data files will land in C:\Windows.old. Since that's the case, I like to suggest that afterwards, you install the apps you life, then create a new image using the "recimg" command line tool. That way your "refresh" will refresh with your apps installed and data intact.

Microsoft has released Windows Essentials 2012 which includes new versions of Movie Maker and Photo Gallery for Windows 7 and Windows 8. Details about the new features in Movie Maker and Photo Gallery are available in the Windows Experience Blog, Introducing the New Windows Photo Gallery and Movie Maker.
Windows Essentials 2012 includes the new SkyDrive for Windows app as well as Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Family Safety, Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Messenger, Outlook Connector Pack and Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie Maker. Windows Live Mesh and SkyDrive
If you install Windows Essentials 2012, it is important to note that if you have Windows Live Mesh installed, it will automatically be removed if you install the new Movie Maker or Photo Gallery. In its place Microsoft SkyDrive will be installed. Microsoft has specified that if the new Movie Maker and/or Photo Gallery in Windows Essentials 2012 are installed, you can not have Windows Live Mesh on the same PC.
In order to sync folders from the cloud to all of your PCs, it will then be necessary to install SkyDrive on all of your PCs or Macs. (Windows Live Mesh continues to be available from the Download Center: Windows Live Essentials.)

Wow- what a mess this is. You know, the Win8 love/hate thing- desktop OS vs. Tablet... I get it. Trying to make things easier for Joe Average user. No Problem. But this stupified, dumbed-down interface on Essentials is a joke. They have emasculated Small Business Server. I've been deploying SBS since the old 4.5 days. It evolved into what a lot of us feel was the best- 2011. Great product, served a HUGE need, and by 2011 they really fixed most everything that was ever wrong with it.

So of course, MS has to f**k it up. First, by removing Exchange, then by applying this moronic Win8 interface... to a server! It's truly pathetic. It has been sad to watch MS abandon the small business community- both its customers and the people like us who support it. This one is the worst yet.

Answer:2012 Essentials rant

They arn't abandoning them per say, just making the poor decision of trying to force everyone to hosted exchange and office 365.

SBS2011 was a good product and had its place in deployments, I tried to stay away from it though, I honestly don't like small companies having Exchange servers in their office.

I have had my Toshiba Satellite L50D-C since 19 October 2015 and virtually from day 1 I have had issues powering up the laptop in standby mode. I press the power button and the light comes on as does the num lock and caps lock lights. The power light stays on as does the num lock but the caps lock light goes off I then wait and wait and nothing happens. I have found that if I hold down the power button for a few seconds the laptop turns off and then I am able to re-start.

I enquired at the place of purchase and was told that I should remove the battery and press the start button for at least 10 seconds, effectively discharging the power like in a flash unit I'm told and then I should find the laptop will power up from standby mode.

I did this and it works great for a few days then the same issues returns, I repeat the "solution" and away I go again.

Whilst this solves my problem, for a few day, I find it very odd that this is a necessary step must be taken. My husband also has a Toshiba Satellite, albeit a year or so older than mine, and he has never had this issue.

Is this normal?? ..Can it be fixed?? ..under warranty?? ..What should I do?? .

Thanks to anyone who can assist me.

Answer:My Satellite L50D-B018/19 W8 keeps turning off

After reading this one sentence problem description it is not easy to say what is wrong there and why this happen. It is not easy to say if this described issue is software or hardware related issue.

If you think there could be some hardware problem I recommend you to contact your local dealer as soon as possible and ask for help. I don't know where do you live but I think that after 6 weeks of usage you will not be able to send it back. In my country it must be done in two weeks only.

Anyway, contact your local dealer and check what can be done about that. Of course you can contact Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help.

The issue this time is when I press power button lights, the fan kicks in the caps light is on, the numbers lock light is on but nothing else happens.

I have tried several times but the outcome is the same.
I called the support line who told me to hold power button down for 30 secs but still nothing.

Does anyone have an ideas as currys trying to say it's software and is not covered.

Answer:Boot issue on Satellite L50D-B-14P

Hi

You might need to remove the AC adaptor and the battery. Then press and hold the power button 30-40 sec long. Repeat this procedure 4-5 times in the row.
In case the notebook will not power up again, contact the Toshiba authorized service provider for hardware diagnostic check.

If the unit is covered by warranty, the hardware problems should be fixed free of charge.

I have been waiting to upgrade Toshiba Satellite L50D-B from the anniversary update to creators update since it came out. At the moment i am up-to-date with windows 10 updates, drivers, bios, all of Toshiba's software and still not getting it.

I have just looked at the supported models for creators update and the closest models i can find is the L50-D and L50D-C

So does this mean that i will never get the creators update on my laptop?

I recently bought a Toshiba satellite l50d-c-13g with a stick of crucial RAM, specs are 8GB DDR3 1600 (PC3-12800) CL11 SODIMM 204pin 1.35V. The Crucial website itself recommended this for my device and I did some research and many people have confirmed that it is compatible as a combination for L50 devices much like this one. The installation itself went great, my machine and OS are picking up the total 16GB of RAM. However I'm experiencing an issue where the RAM is being throttled at 665.3 MHz (which I am assuming is 665.3X2) according to CPU-z and Seccy. My GPU is also being throttled as a result of this as it's using the RAM for shared memory and what's stranger still, is that even though my machine and OS is reading 16GBs, dual channel mode is not activated.

Currently my OS is not asking for a reactivation, and there is no option to enable/disable XMP in BIOS. Would a XMP profile have to be provided by the OEM for this machine to accept the new RAM or is this a known issue with some other work around to have it clock at a full 800MHz?

Hello

i recent bought a Satellite L50D-B-12W notebook.

The notebook comes from Italy and im from Spain, but the stock windows installed from factory was in English.
I change the stock windows for a Spanish Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits and the problem starts here.

Everithing works ok, except the integrated graphic card.
The notebook tells me what the model is AMD A6-6310 APU with AMD Radeon R4 Graphics.

Originally i download APU graphic drivers from AMD support web.
I installed and recognizes the cpu but not the graphic card (it stays with the VGA standar of Windows) so the HD videos plays with cuts and slowly.

Then i download the automatic drivers downloand form AMD and the program downloads the APU A6 drivers but the problem is the same.

I try with Windows 7 64 bits also but i can't get it to recognize the integrated graphic card.

Please, anybody can help me?
What are the correct drivers i have to download?

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-12W does not recognize integrated GPU

I forget that i download every display drivers from the Italian web of Toshiba and don't work either

Hi,

I am an owner of a Toshiba Satellite L50D-B notebook.

The notebook is equipped with a TSST corp CDDVD SU-208FB which is working properly in reading any kind of disk. The problem is that it never burned a cd or DVD properly.

I have used all type of optical media and both the nero 2015 software and windows 8.1 64-bit default burning procedure.

However every time i get an error message that my CD/DVD drive needs firmware update.

The result is that the optical disk shows burn marks but it cannot be read by any optical device.
Does anyone has any clue on the matter?

Thank you in advance...

MODEL NAME: TSST corpCDDVD SU-208FB
VERSION: TF01
OEM CODE: TF

Answer:Satellite L50D-B never burned a CD or DVD properly

What application provides this message about the necessary firmware update?
I looked on the Toshiba EU driver page and unfortunately, there is no firmware update for this CD/DVD drive.

Theoretically it could be a hardware problem with the internal CD/DVD drive instead of firmware problem? also due the fact that you are the first, who posted such issue here in the forum; I would assume that there might be a hardware problem. But just my personal opinion

Nevertheless, the notebook was also preinstalled with Toshiba recovery media creator.
Does this ?burning? software work properly?

Hi all, I've got a L50D-B-147, had it from new since July and it's been great.
Lately though something has been happening that I'm hoping you might be able to help with, it is under warranty so can be sent away to be looked at but I thought I'd ask here first in case it's something I can fix.

This is the problem - no matter how long the laptop has been turned off, whether it's overnight or just for 5 minutes, the first time I turn it on it shows the Toshiba loading screen then turns off. I don't get the loading circle or anything else.

However, when I power it up again, it loads up fine and I get no further problems from it all day.
Bios is up to date, as are all other drivers. I've tried starting it up without power connected, and then with power but no battery. Tried it without anything plugged into the usbs also, and I took everything off of Windows start up but none of it made a difference.
It doesn't feel hot, and is sat on a table with a fan under it.

Is there anything else I can try before sending it away? If it helps, I'm running Windows 10 64 bit and have been since the day after it arrived. It came with 8.1.
Thanks in advance.

HI,

My warranty has just expired on 30/11/2016 and typically the laptop has now developed a fault.

I always leave my laptop plugged in to trickle charge, using the power settings the batter never shows more that 3/4 full!

When I got home I tried to power up (should be in standby), all it did was click and go straight off and power button light flash 3 times.

Tried holding power button down to do full power of and then re-load, same issue not power up.

Next I took the battery out and it first of all came on with screen saying time and date reset and took me to bios to reset, I did that then powered up which took around 10 mins, I loaded task manger to show HDD at 100% for another 10 mins, then all settled down.

At this point I closed lid and slid battery back in but would not come out of standby, took battery out and again it went to bios to reset time and date before loading windows.

I don't know if this is a battery fault or charging circuit fault has anyone had similar fault with this model.

Cheers

My Toshiba laptop ( Toshiba Satellite L50d ) will not connect to the WiFi, it wont even search for any available networks around even though I have plenty... When I opened the back cover of the laptop I found a wire that was unplugged and I believe it goes to the WiFi Module that is placed underneath a white ribbon.. I cannot insert the wires for them to stay there...

There are two wires and one of them is white whilst the other is black... IT looks something like this.

I believe that to fix this you need to place the wires in the module but being a beginner I have no idea how to.
I am not too sure weather that is the problem or not. Thank you for your time reading this..

Also I saw this video on which if you look closely has the white and black wires plugged in the module.

Hi all.

I've had my laptop for just over a month, just upgraded it to Windows 10, and suddenly yesterday it decided it wasn't going to turn on without being plugged in. The battery icon shows up as normal and says it's 100% charged.

The battery seems to be screwed into place so I can't get into it to check the contacts. I've tried un- and re-installing the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery in the device manager as per the Toshiba support advice.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, I am very concerned, I am a 4th year degree student and cannot be without a laptop for any length of time.

Thanks guys.

I bought the above laptop for my wife just over a month ago, and after only a few days the touchpad keeps freezing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. (currently using an external mouse via usb).

I've tried f5 and f9, but they don't seem to make much difference. I also downloaded a driver recommended on another forum somewhere, and that seemed to work for a week or so. Now we're back to square one.

This can't be right for a new laptop. I haven't upgraded to Windows 10 and we don't plan on doing so soon.

Any help appreciated. The Toshiba page had a guide about turning off, taking battery out and doing something with BIOS, but I can't see how I can take the battery out without unscrewing bits and I don't want to do that.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
G

Has anyone else gotten this combo to work?

Whenever I try to install WSE2012 through UEFI/BIOS it fails. The computer reboots before I even get into the setup GUI. So far, I have only been able to boot into DOS.

I've removed all PCIE cards, unplugged hard drives, and updated the BIOS to the latest version.

I verified the chksum of the WSE2012 against Technet so i know my download is good.

I burned the ISO to DVD & Flash drive.

Any ideas?

Ok so I have been reading up here on rants and different things on the storage spaces piece...

I went from WHS v1 to WHS2011 now but am not running any backups or duplication or anything....

I am now running WHS2012E (if you will)...on a machine to make sure it all looks good. But I only have 1 drive in it at the moment..

so in my ESX 5.5i environment I installed it then added 2 drives...

just for confirmation....

what is the mimimum size drive to use for the OS???
I have a 1tb in there and was going to get 2 x 3tb drives.. and only use them.
but V1 would allow you to duplicate data that way but the new WHS2012E does not.
seems drive pool must be 2 seperate drives in addition to the OS drive so it makes no sense why wyou would want a 3tb OS drive...
(verified this by more googling... hah)
am I missing something here?

I am thinking 250gb or 320gb drive for OS (have them already)
3 x 1tb drive in a pool then mirrored x1 (as I have them too) - if that is what it is called...

I dont need 2 copies of this and 3 copies of that.. raid 5 for this and all that...

I have pics, movies, data files that are shared out to computers in the house... I just want to make sure if a drive goes I can get all my data back....

recommendations?

this machine will be running
movie share
music share
data share

I migrated an office from 2003 to 2012 Essentials.

I admin'd the box fine setting it up at home with RDS and installed REALVNC on it. Everything was groovy.

Took it to the office and migrated all the workstations to this new domain controller, migrated profiles, etc, moved files, remapped shares, did scripts, etc. Everything went very smooth.

I get home and cannot get to the box thru the VPN as I always did with the 2003 server. Can't ping it, get to it with RDS, VNC, nothing. Can't get to any of the workstations either. I'm thinkin' ohhh crap, I'm in trouble Monday morning, this office is down hard and dead!

Nope, nothing, no calls. I send an email to ask the Doctor if they turned everything off and he said no, everything is working fine.

I am not interested particularly in the web admin access, that I most likely disabled because I can't reach it either. But it looks interesting and I might re-enable it.

But mainly, how do I get RDS and VNC access back? This is a remote site and I'd like to know before I drive 100 miles round trip.

Answer:Windows 2012 Essentials Question

Windows firewall?
Possibly it (properly) detected the new network when taken to the office, but set itself to Public network instead of Work or Home?

We had that happen once here, except it was when someone did RDP in. The Network Detection dialog popped up, but he ignored the box; Windows presumably then selected Public network and blocked pretty much all inbound connectivity.
Though that did block literally all inbound connections.

I updated the sound driver on my A30 laptop today from the Toshiba site with the Realtek Semiconductor Corporation download and now the sound will not work. This is my only stereo so I feel really bad. The original driver disks are in storage and I'm not very techie so help please...

Many thanks for your time, Phill

Answer:Satellite A30 - no sound after Sound Driver installation

Hi Phill,

First I would check the sound settings in Control Panel to make sure that none of them are turned off, and also that 'mute' is not ticked. Also check that the volume control on the side of your A30 is turned up to full volume.

In the event that everything is correctly set, I would then reload the Realtek driver from the Toshiba Tools and Utilities CD. If you do not have access to the CD then you may be able to restore the driver to its original condition by selecting the sound device in 'Device Manager' and rolling back the driver there.

If all else fails you should be able to 'restore' your system from the last restore point prior to your installing the new driver.

I bought a Satellite L50D-B-140 running windows 8 in August and upgraded the OS to Windows 10. Yesterday I tried to boot it up, and it powered off almost immediately. When I tried to boot a second time, it took about 25 minutes to get into windows. I opened Firefox, sent an email with a couple of attachments and opened MS word. During this period, the machine was unresponsive or very slow by turns. Then it crashed. it came up with a black screen and showed 'no bootable device - please restart system' in the command line. Since then it failed to start twice more and eventually prompted the Windows 10 Recovery system. i have tried following the troubleshooting guidelines but nothing is working - my only remaining option seems to be to do a system restore from a Windows 10 USB. Model: Satellite L50D-B-17J
Serial no.: YE031145C
So, a cousin of mine has somehow managed to put a BIOS password on her laptop, and then forgotten the password. Now, I've been asked to see if I can fix it.

First of all: this laptop, despite being relatively new, is essentially fix or trash, she's already got a new one. I have already opened it up, so the warranty has technically been voided already. All this means it doesn't matter too much if it breaks in the process of fixing it. They say they have contacted support and not really gotten a clear idea of what to actually do, and I'd prefer to not have to bother with support either (the site Support system isn't even working for me right now).

Long story short: Is there a way of resetting the BIOS password on this model? I understand that it's possible on a lot of laptops to do so by removing the CMOS battery. Now, this model does not have one (I have it opened and have not found one). Instead, I understand that newer models may have a circuit that can be shorted to possibly reset the BIOS? Is this correct, and if so, which circuit is it?

Once again, the laptop is pretty much forfeit anyways, so if at all possible, I'd take the chance of doing it myself, if it's at all a possibility.

Answer:Satellite L50D-B - Bios Password Reset

Well the circuits in question would be the JCMOS1 jumpers normally located under the RAM. Bridge them while the power is off first. If that doesn't work then post to screen by taking out the battery and lead, hold the power button for 10-15 seconds, then hold Fn+ESC, while holding this down plug in the power lead and turn on the device. When the fan starts up release Fn+ESC. If you see a post screen then bridge JCMOS1 jumper then and that should reset the BIOS. Unplug the device and hold down the power button for 1 minute and then plug it back in again. It should start up with out prompting for a password. If you could not get it to post then refer to the user manual to see what it's flashing procedure is. The buttons needed for a flashing procedure will be the same to make it post. Only bridge the JCMOS1 jumper while the machine is on if you see the post screen, no other time. An easy way to bridge them would be to use a paper clip and bend it out and use either end of it.

Hi, I have a laptop about a year ago. And for 5 months I was a problem with the fans. Go out and the following message appears:

Warning: A Problem with the cooling system has-been detected. Please turn off the computer Immediately, and return it for service.

The strange thing is that the first time that happened stopped working a week, then one month and finally stopped working until 3 months he has now not start.
I have even the implied warranty of the product but I have not thought about sending it because it practically need every week for classes. I can use it perfectly but if I perform actions that require higher performance like playing games or upload multiple videos at once begins to warm up, get the message and if continuous eventually shut down.
What should I do and how I can fix the problem?

Hi,

Is there an easy way to reset the Satellite L50D-B-16M back to its factory defaults without having to go through the process of making recovery disks and all that?

There are no imporant files on it anymore, I'm just looking for a straightforward way to reset it to its factory defaults. (The old trick with pressing the 0-button while turning it on doesn't seem to work).

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-16M Back To Factory Default?

The old trick with pressing the 0-button while turning it on doesn't seem to work

Pressing the 0 button started the recovery from HDD Recovery partition.

You could also switch on the computer, press and hold the "F12" key while the Toshiba logo appears.
Then you should see the boot menu and the last option called HDD recovery should also allow you to start the recovery procedure from HDD…

But this will work only if the HDD was not modified and if the recovery files are still available.

hello,

i am desperated on the search for the driver page, especially Windows 7, for the called model

"Satellite L50D-B-160 / PSKULE-02L03QGR"

which i bought 3 days ago preinstalled with windows 8,
and on which i now have installed Windows 7, on for that i woould need Windows 7 drivers.

Nowhere on Toshibas driver pages i cant find exactly this model, for any reason.

Is there an other similiar model, which is listed in the support/driver download database on which
i could use the drivers?

Or much better, does anybody have the link for the driver/download page for that model?

thanks very much.

Hello everyone,

I have bought a Toshiba Satellite L50D-B-16M on June 19 2015.

On July 6 when when I tried go back to my session after being in sleeping mode the screen stayed black while the computer was plugged and there was no apparent noise of either CPU or HDD. The connected to sector light was on (white light) as well as the connected to WiFi light (orange light). I tried:

to press the on/off button several times with no result
to unfold refold laptop screen with no result
unplug/replug the sector wire with no result

Finally, I had to let the computer rest for a time (about an hour) to get it functioning again by pressing the on/off button.

On July 12 (6 days later), again I couldn't get into my session while the computer was in sleep mode and I faced the same problem: I tried the same three things with no result, the screen remained black. After 30 minutes I retried to make it work but there was no reaction from the screen.
I had to force shut down the computer (Holding the on/off key) but the computer still did not have any results...

Finally, it's only after another forced shutdown and after I have removed and put back the battery (physically) that it started again.

Since that date the problem reappear again ...

I can't understand why this is happening to a brand new computer, I'm currently doing a PhD and I really need a working computer when I'm abroad for conferences... I'm afraid this will happen again in the worst moment, in a... Read more

The ports aren't working with anything.

In Device Manager there is an unrecognised device in "Other Devices" section which has no driver.
I tried to download one from the Toshiba website but once unzipped it didn't change the status.

Much appreciate any help.

Ed.

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-16V - 2 USB ports stopped working

I solved this myself by starting the whole system again from scratch. After re-loading windows the ports were working again. This wasn't too bad for me as I didn't have a lot on the computer. If anyone has the same problem then you could always try starting again.

Hi all,
hope some good sould could help me here.

I want to install back live mail 2012 but at the end of the installation it keeps on reporting the following:

It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working.
Error: 0x80070643
Source: crt90-i386

instead of saying: done.

I've looked pretty everywhere but I couldn't find a solution.
I've tried a clean start, with just MS services, tried to uninstall feature NET framework and reinstall them, tried to stop and restart the firewall, tried to clean all the cache, temp files.
I also tried to install the messenger or the Photo gallery and Movie maker alone, without mail.
Nothing, it keeps on reporting that darn error
Anybody have an idea on what could be wrong?

I want to choose an OS for a media server, has to be Windows. I have valid keys. The server hw is pretty old, its an old SuperMicro with AMD Opteron, 6GB DDR2 etc.

Which of these is going to have the lowest resource usage? I don't need to use any pc backup features, just run it as a server with the usual tasks like Plex/Emby, downloading etc.

Answer:Server Essentials 2012 R2 vs Windows 10 vs WHS 2011?

2012 Essentials gets my vote but I bet it's less featureful than WHS2011. Based on how many strange happenings I have on my workstation at work with a clean non-OEM install of Win10 TH2, I would not use it for a server at all. Here's to hoping 2016 is better in reliability than the counterpart 10...

Did a fresh install of Microsoft Server 2012 R2 Essentials and followed the storage pool wizard by mistake and setup with mirror instead of Stripe + Parity (just MKV etc. storage).

Rookie mistake but how could I simply delete the pool (and folders) and redo manually?

I'm googling like crazy but can't find a solution yet.

I would like to format the drives and re-setup the storage pool.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thx guys.

Anyone know if you can install it as a non-domain server? It forced me to provide a domain name during the installation.

I don't want MS domains anywhere near my home network. I want a standard network server.

Got tired of the start screen email app real quick, went out and downloaded windows essential pack which includes mail.

Program is a work of art, added all my accounts with just a couple of clicks, personal imap accounts, microsoft accounts and even my yahoo pop account (needs to be yahoo mail plus account, which i have for like $20 a year).

Each account has its own set of folders and each account can be given a color, the ribbon menus on top are great and offer multiple options for your emails.

Reader can be completely customized with many different views, custom column headers, etc.

Can all this be synced to other accounts, and devices who knows, I really am not into that so for me this is the perfect email app

Answer:windows essentials 2012 mail is great

I'll look into that once I get my laptop back to 8. Thanks for the link.

I'm trying to help a friend to get their Windows Server 2012 Essentials setup up in their small business.

Server is operational, but I'm having issues connecting PCs to it...

I'm able to get to the server page by going to http://(servername)\connect
I can download the connector software, when I run it it finds the server it ask for user name and password.

After entering info it tries to connect for 20-60 seconds and fails with:

Cannot coonect this computer to the network
The Server is not available. Try connecting this computer again, or for more information, see troubleshooting connecting computers to the server.

any idea what could be causing?

could this be caused by network issues? They are using ATT DSL for internet access, with a ATT model, that is referred to as "gateway.pace.com"

They also have a zyxel smart switch, it seems that both ATT DSL and Zyxel switch are acting as DHCP, and both might be issuing IP addresses.

Another thing I noticed that they are using IP phones for all office phones.
All PCs are connected to the network with an IP phone as a device in the middle, that seems be slowing down the phones from normal gigabit to 10/100 only.

Any help would be grateful.

Can somebody PLEASE give me a working link to Windows Essentials 2012, preferably the offline installer? It's not on Microsoft anymore, and I want to use the Live Mail and Photos apps in place of the default Win10 apps.

Answer:Where on Earth can I download Windows Essentials 2012?

Hi Stargate38

I trust this site. That said please scan with your AV. Hopefully Live Mail is included.

While Live Mail still works for a lot of people it could stop at any time depending on your mail supplier.
