Re: Normal CPU temp but fan is loud

Question: Re: Normal CPU temp but fan is loud

Hello,

My average CPU temps are 45 on idle and 75 when playing games. So what causes the fan being a bit more loud than usual although having normal temps? It's not that noisy and I could live with it, but I'm afraid that is something wrong with the fan.

Also, I checked PC Health Monitor and the fan speed is at 50% is ALWAYS on idle. It has been at 50% since the first day, but the noise is more noticeable now.

PD: Laptop is 1 month old.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Re: Normal CPU temp but fan is loud

I don?t think there is some problem with the cooling fan. It is controlled automatically. What you can try is to change settings for ?cooling method?.
You can find it in advanced power options > Toshiba power settings. Set it to ?Battery optimized?.
This should reduce cooling fan activity.

Please test it and post some feedback.

I recently bought the Y700 from lenovo. I have a question regarding the fan in this system..  Hoping someone can chime in. Is the fan suppose to run ALL the time? When I'm gaming, the fan kicks in "decently" loud, but the sounds of the game kinda covers it up. When in idle (webbing, videos), there seems to be a faint fan noise. However, when I begin to open more tabs, the fans kicks in momentarily, then lowers back down. The temp of the computer is warm when gaming ~ 65C, and when doing regular stuff on the web ~ 37C.  Is this normal or is something wrong?

Hi ,

I have a strange thing going on with the fan, it makes a loud noise when the laptop is at cool temperature.

Other strange thing is when i open a demanding app like games, the laptop starts to be hotter of course and the fan became to her normal sound. when i close the game, the laptop gets cooler and the noise of the fan cameback.
i opened the laptop and i cleaned the components, such as the fan, and nothing has changed.
since the temperature is low i dont think i have to change the thermal paste in the cpu and the gpu.

tldr; loud strange noise of fan when laptop is cool, and a normal sound while opening a demanding app.

Hi,
I have a strange thing going on with my fan, she keeps making a loud noise despite the laptop is cool.

What is even stranger is when i play a game, the laptop become hotter of course and the fan start turning with high speed but with a normal noise, it almost disappears after 15min gaming or so..
and when i close the game the laptop starts to cool down and the fan starts to be loud.
btw, i opened the laptop, and i cleaned the every component, i disassembled the fan and cleaned it, it wasn't that dirty since the laptop is almost two years old, but i didn't renew the thermal paste in the cpu or the graphic card. but i dont think that matters since the laptop is cool when the fan is being noisy.

Brand new XPS 8910
Noticing spikes in idle temperature 50-70+ C  with no load.  Normal idle CPU temp is avg 38-40 C.   Performed a quick scan and temp shot quickly to 80 C.  In my opinion CPU should not have gotten that hot.
The fan will "take off" anywhere from 20 seconds to 2-3 minutes (with varying speed) and many times when the system is completely idle.    I have done sound recording to support the sound and also screen captures of CPU & GPU temps.   Been doing this from Day 1.
Anyone else experience this?   Suggestions...

Answer:Loud fan and unusual spikes in CPU temp

Cheryl Awhen the system is completely idle
That doesn't rule out something running in the background that you don't see, such as anti-viral scans, Windows Indexing Service, or maybe apps phoning home to look for updates, or live tiles looking to update their content.
When the fan starts revving, open Task Manager and see what app or process is using CPU time, aside from System Idle. That might point you in the right direction
Do you have the latest version of BIOS (v1.0.9)? And the latest Intel chipset drivers, latest Intel video driver, and the latest video driver for your specific video card, etc? All listed on the Support page.

Right from the first startup I noticed the computer was unbearable loud.I figured that it was the first setup installation and downloading updates that had the processor worked upBut after all the installations was finished and drivers for graphics and processor was updated and turning the computer settings to energy saveing mode the situation is still the same. Is this normal for this model or does this computer have a defect?  The fan is constantly running at around 2380-2420 speed. Is this normal?  What CPU fan is this model using?

I have a noise-related issue with my X220 and I wonder if someone here can confirm that it is normal. There is more electrical noise coming from my laptop than I am used to. I'm referring to the slight buzzing coming from the computer's mainboard. It varies with the load on the laptop, and happens regardless of whether it is plugged in or not. All laptops have this sound, but it would normally be very quiet and masked by hard drive noise, particularly since they both vary with load so will increase at the same time. In my machine there is an SSD so no hard drive noise, so I would expect to hear the electrical noise more clearly but I am still surprised at the volume of the buzzing. I just tried comparing it to a netbook I have by booting the netbook from a USB flash drive and then spinning down the hard drive so it was silent. The electrical noise on that is only audible if I put my ear to the keyboard. By contrast I can hear the noise clearly while just sitting at my X220 (i7 model) in a very quiet environment (when the fan is at a low speed). Can someone please confirm whether this occurs with their machine? They will probably need to have an SSD or spin down their hard drive, and their fan will need to be at a fairly low speed and put the machine under some light load. Thanks.

Answer:X220 loud electrical buzzing? Is this normal?

hi, i have that electrical noise also besides the fan going up and down all the time, allthough i set the energybalance in 'low' (energysaving), very ennoying, never had such a problem, it's allready my fifth laptop. One says lenovo is working on the issue, so be patientFor the rest the x220 is a marvelous machine

I posted what i could about my system spec in the account place using the info program.

My issue is that my fan runs very loudly and does not turn off during idle/slow periods. I downloaded the speedfan program and this is how it looks currently. http://i.imgur.com/Cmjal.png
I don't think the difference between idle and running Chrome + Steam in the background would be enough to matter, so i'm not in a completely idle mode now. This is essentially my constant setup.

I'm rather inept when it comes to these things so i'm really not sure if this is even a problem or not. I know that cpu fans are always running, but i can't imagine 2800-2900 rpm being an idle speed. My temperatures are stable(as far as i know) and they only get to about 45% during heavier cpu usage. The noise on the other hand is not so pleasant, which is the biggest indicator to me that something is wrong.

I cleaned out the dust in the system, but i think i may have missed the heatsink or whatever itself.
I have also heard that doing a disk cleanup and defragmentation can solve the issue of a fan running constantly, however, doing that did not seem to help.

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Answer:Fan running very loud at idle, temperature and cpu usage normal.

Perform a thorough de-dusting of all system components, including the heatsink (perhaps the most important one). Make sure that you always hold the can upright; never tilt it or turn it upside down as it will spray out liquid. I would also check all of the physical connections to the fans inside the system. Unplug them, and plug them back in.

If you have never performed a system cleanup or defrag, I would certainly do it, but I don't think that will solve the problem. You would have to literally have years of junk and clutter piled up before your processor put out that much heat. Do a complete and thorough de-dusting and post back.

Ok, I've just rebuilt most of my PC, due to my old MB going *BOOM* and taking my RAM and HDD with it... feh.

I'd be grateful to know what my "normal" CPU temperature - especially if at 100% usage - would be?

Specs:

Athlon XP 2000+ Processor (running 1667Mhz)
Akasa AKA-785SE CPU Cooler (i.e - 5000rpm CPU Fan)
Abit KV7-V Motherboard
512 DDR 400 RAM
Asus Geforce 4 MX420 DDR 64Mb
Soundblaster Live 5.1
Windows 98 FE

Disabled Smart Fan control, to keep temp down more. Nothing O/C!

Currently veers between about 32c (idling) and 54c (gaming).

Any advice appreciated!

Answer:Q: Normal Temp for my CPU...?

The 54 is hot for XP 2000, what type of case, case fans, also type of thermal paste? 5000rpm, must sound quite loud, not familiar with Akasa, I use Thermaltake cooling products, thier newer ownes work well will little noise. You could get much cooler temps and alot less noise, depends on homw much $$ you are looking to spend.

Answer:Normal cpu temp

Never really going to get a straight answer on a 'normal' temperature of a CPU or PC as they are all different, from your rooms ambient temp to the way you have build your pc and the parts used ( Case/HSF etc ) but you will have a best working average temp window, which as the FX53s have a max temp of between 63/70c ( with an ambient temp of 40/42c ) so long as your not hitting over the 60c mark your well within that window... I have a personal target temp to try and get a PC to and this is at 100% CPU time or Full Load at a temp of no more than 55c.

things to take note of that can affect temps....

Room temperature

Airflow around outside of case ( is it stuck in a corner or in a PC desk )

Airflow inside the PC, do you have optimum airflow as in fan/s pulling cool air in the front and out the top back, are your cables all tidy as to not restrict airflow, which can cause dead zones of warm air.

Answer:Are those HOT Temp normal for my PC?

Those temps seem fine, except for your hard drive temp. 58C seems too high to me.

If those temps are accurate, try adding some cooling fans to your case, particularly around the hard drive area.

Question: Normal CPU temp.

ok guys, i recently ordered the AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2.40GHz (San Diego version)

and what i noticed was the temps was a bit higher than that of my old 3500+ (2.20GHz)
41'C for the 4000+
25 to 35'C for the 3500+

is this normal due to the clock speed of the 4000+?? or is it because of some other physical factor?

----------------
Now playing: LTJ Bukem - Switch
via FoxyTunes

Answer:Normal CPU temp.

That temp is fine. There are many things that affect cpu temp;
Ambient temp
Case airflow
Type of hsf

Next I cannot see replacing a 3500+ with a 4000+ You are not really going to see much in the way of improvement at least not enough to justify the cost of the cpu. If you went to a dual core, then you might see some improvement [if you use multiple apps]

I just put together my cp. I used the standard heatsink for the Intel I7 920 cpu. Right now when not doing much the CPU reads about 50 C. The cores are all at 60 C.

Seems high to me. Should I be concerned? Right now I am using Adobe Media Encoder and the CPU goes up to mid 70s and cores go to over 80.

Answer:What is a safe/normal temp for CPU?

That does seem high for stock temps, make sure you have mounted the heat sink firmly and that there was adequate thermal paste applied, another thing to consider is the ambient temps, as they will also effect your CPU.

This was taken from the Tom's Hardware forum just to give some perspective.

I have an AMD Phenom 2 quad core 955 which I installed in a newly built system a few months ago. I had heating problems (it was idling at around 45 C) so I installed a new CPU fan. It idles at around 40C now, but whenever I power up Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect 2, or any other game that puts it under a pretty heavy load, it'll shoot up to high 50's and eventually top out at around 60C which is right around the 62C limit that AMD listed in the manual.

The fan I put in had awesome reviews and though it was a pain in the butt to install, I think I got it in right so I'm not sure what's wrong. One thing I was forced to do due to the small case size was have the new CPU fan blowing against the back case fan. The two fans are like 6 inches apart from each other and in general, stuff is pretty cramped in there. I still don't feel like that should justify 60C temps though.

Answer:70 celcius graphic card? is this normal temp?

70 for a under load GPU is not bad, assuming it's a dedicated card.
I use evga precision on mine it only works with nvidia cards, but it will boost the fan speed for you when the card gets hot. (the fan in the card typically only runs at around 20 to 30 percent capacity)
EVGA | Software | EVGA Precision
it will work with any nvidia series card made in like the last 10 years so should be fine.

As the topic says my overall CPU temp is much lower than what the cores are, i'm wondering is this normal or something that i should worry about.

Temps
Overnight Idle Temps - This is when they actually match, they're both around 23-26
Light Use (Browsing Web/Watching A Movie/Texted Based Game) - CPU - Around 29-33ish Cores - 30-50ish
Moderate Gaming (Older Games) - CPU 34-40 Cores - 56-70ish
Heavy Gaming (Newer/CPU Heavy games like Attila/Rome II Total War) - CPU - 40-46 Cores - 60-84
Load Temps (Stress Testing) - CPU - 56 (rarely ever goes much higher) Cores - 90 -100

In the pic i'm running speedfan, realtemp and HW Monitor with the CPU load 43% (attaching it made it too small to read uploading elsewhere asap)

Any help is much appreciated

I'm having the hardest time figuring out what's going on. I've built many computers the past few years so I can usually figure out issues like this but I'm stumped. First, let me mention that 99% of the time, this only happens when I take the laptop to work in the morning. That makes absolutely NO sense to me. I've tried my hardest to make it happen while I'm at home but it's probably only happened once the past few months. I use 3 pieces of software when I'm at work: Excel 2007, Photoshop CS6, and a shipping program called Endicia Professional. What happens is as I'm working, the computer freezes for a couple seconds, the fan on the left side speeds up for a few seconds, and then the laptop just shuts off. What I've noticed is that it happens almost every time immediately after I remove the charger from the laptop. However, it does still happen with it plugged in but definitely not as much. If I turn it back on instantly, it happens again within 1 minute. If I give it a few minutes of rest, it lasts a bit longer for the most part but definitely still happens again eventually. I never notice the laptop getting hot. I've looked at the CPU temperature using different pieces of software, and it does spike up to around 60 C occasionally and only when printing with the shipping software. It usually stays at around 45-50 C when it doesn't spike. At home, I can use the laptop with or without the charger plugged in with no issues. I'd appreciate any help I can get... Read more

Hi there, I've recently purchased a e530 laptop and have noticed flucuations in the cpu temp when idle. these are pretty constant and usually only a few degrees up or down sundenly 3 - 5 degrees, sometimes 8 - 10 degrees or so. I know this could be pretty normal. Another thing, after buying the laptop the first 5 or so boots i would get an error just before the splash screen and before windows starts to load reading " thermal sensing error" but this message has disappeared after seeing it a few times. Could there possibly be a problem with the reading of the cpu temp or are these kind of fluctuations normal when idle? The cpu usage fluctuates alot when idle but only between 0-10 percent in task manager. thanks.

Answer:Cpu Monitoring solfware reporting sudden temp flucuations - is this normal?

Hi, ShaneP

Provided your processor temps stay within normal operating temps, I do not think you have anything to worry about at this time. Even when the computer is idle, the processor still has to operate several components of the operating software and the hardware of the machine, so it is normal for the usage to rise and, with it, the temperature.

As for the "thermal sensing error," I found this thread from Lenovo Forums that states what the error actually means. This error normally appears when the motherboard and the processor are not fully compatible with each other. Since you are not seeing it anymore, I believe that system update has resolved this. So, with all that, I think your system is running as it should.

Hope it helps,
Adam

When installed the newest graphic's driver I rebooted windows as suggested, I click on my Windows profile (takes longer than normal, knew something was wrong). Then all of the suddenly I'm in an temp account.

I have Windows XP Professional by the way.

This happend once before, then I made a new account and configured everything. But I don't want to do that again so I'm asking for help.

Anyway to fix this?

We have a relatively new, computer store built laptop that has just started "screaming" partway into startup. I have to shut it down immediately. There is no sound in safe mode.
I tried air spraying the fans though I don't think it is a mechanical noise.

Answer:Solved: Laptop has loud "scream" about 20 second into normal startup

The problem was the built in microphone. It had accidentally been turned way up and was getting feedback from the speakers.

The laptop idle upon boot using Realtemp, gives cpu core temps of 45-50c, and after just over half an hour idle, its just under 60c. Running multiple programs at once can bring it up to 70c or over if the machine has been on for a few hours, with its fan running at the max. If I attempt any cpu intensive tasks, such as 3d software, it can reach the 70s, but it rarely goes over 80c.
Speedfan on the other hand gives values of roughly 10c less for each core compared to Realtemp, and although I know it can be customized, Speedfan gives me the 'hot' icon by default for anything over 50c. I have heard that Realtemp may be giving the most accurate values, since Speedfan has not been calibrated for my particular system. After a Realtemp 10 minute sensor test, my cpu can state it is 100c or over (realtemp doesnt show values over 100, when the cpu is running at the max).
How common would anyone say these values were for a dual core bottom of the range laptop system, and would you be worried? No problems in running to date. Unfortunately I cannot be sure if the system has always given these temperatures or not, and how accurate. If the cpu really was over 100c in a Realtemp test, working the cpu to the max, I wonder how long the cpu would likely last. Thanks for any info if possible, esp if anyone has a laptop to compare temperatures. I will assume higher quality systems will never go over the 60c mark! >:0

Well anyway's its very loud and the laptop gets frozen so there isn't anything I can do except press the off button to restart my laptop. Whats wrong with it? I barely got my laptop 4 months ago! And this problem only happens when I'm listening to music please help? :]]

Also I have enough ram because I barely install anything and I don't have many files like music and pictures saved on my laptop either :)

Answer:Whenever I play loud music, my laptop freezes and makes a LOUD sound??

Your computer may be overheating. Blow all the fans out with a can of compressed air. Consider a laptop cooler.

I specifically bought the Toshiba Satellite (my fourth in a row) to take advantage of the lovely harmon/kardon speakers.

I find that the volume is going loud and soft all the time, specifically going softer when there appears to be something in the music (or whatever Im listening to) that would normally go louder. It's almost as if it is trying to 'normalise' the volume. Whatever is happening, it sounds terrible.

I've done a quick search on thee forums and I can't see a solution. I have seen on the greater internets (simply google Toshiba loud soft" and it pops up) someone else with the same problem.

I've messed around with the sound for hours at a time and had absolutely no luck.

I'm at my wits end. Can some please help me?

Hi there,
When I use headphones with my Surface Pro (Win 8) I cant hear the voices in my videos - the background music/sound effects are just too loud.

How can I fix this? I have tried using the Win 8 Video player as well as VLC Player and I still get the same issue.

I have tried the headphones on my iPhone and have no problems.

It has been a long time since i've used a Windows computer (usually have a Mac) so sorry if this is a silly question.

Thanks in advance
Nathan

Answer:Voice not loud with headphones - background music too loud

You cou;d try using Winamp as it has an equalizer. Most DVDs the sound track and effects are pumped up compared to dialog. It drives me crazy, but short of demuxing, fixing the audio yourself then remuxing, trying to boost the voice frequencies is about all you can do.

Hey everyone, I've had this laptop for a few years now and I know this hasn't always been a problem. In other topics regarding this issue, it's recommended to update your BIOS and drivers and everything. I've already done that. I think it might have been some update that started this issue. My temperature readings are reasonable in GPU-z. For some reason my laptop just starts spinning the fan really loudly, even if the room is cold. I've never felt my laptop get really hot or anything. The noise is just really loud now and it's embarassing to take it out in public. It doesn't sound BROKEN, it just sounds like when you turn on an older desktop.  My warranty has expired and I've already looked inside at the fans - they didn't appear to be damaged or dusty. I cleaned them, even used the cleaning app and the problem didn't improve at all. So basically I don't know what to do. If it's not a hardware problem, what else might it be? If it is a hardware problem, I guess I should look into getting a new laptop? The thing is, I've googled around and it seems other people have had this issue too. I haven't been hard on my laptop or anything, it just stays on my desk. Thanks

Answer:Lenovo Y40-70 Fan way too loud, quiet sometimes and suddenly gets loud

Assuming that your fans are clean and both working and the vents are clear, then you may have to simply clean the old grease, and then reapply the thermal silicone grease between the heat sink and the CPU.    I have seen where over time on laptops the heat sink compound or pad dries out and loosens, and then does not transfer heat efficiently to the heat sink; thus causing the fans to work harder to keep the CPU cool.     If you do decide to replace the compound, use a good high quality one like Artic Silver etc., make sure to clean off the old crud completely, and then just apply a nice thin layer over the entire CPU......Too much is not better.... Good Luck.

What does this mean:  C:\Users\Ted\AppData\Local\Temp\ScrC777.temp\_FRBatch.pac was not found, and how can I resolve it?
I usually see it on start up  after "sleep".
Thanks

Answer: C:\Users\Ted\AppData\Local\Temp\ScrC777.temp\_FRBatch.pac was not found

Hi TedRayWesty,
When your computer ?wake up? from ?sleep? mode, the RAM will be able to respond to a wake-up event and calling files for program. There might be a calling failure. I searched about your temp folder name and the temp file name and seems like it is not a system
file and it is called by some third party software.
Try following steps to resolve your issue
Please perform a clean boot and see if the issue still persist.
Check the other contents in ScrC777.temp folder see if you could identify the software.(seems like some Security Software or Anti-Spyware)
Uninstall it and delete the temp folder see what happens.

Those programs are not reliable for AMD platform, This AMD OverDrive? Technology should give you much better look at what's going on. For temperatures look at "Temperature margin" Higher, the better at 10c or so it will start throttling like crazy. It also provides many more details than any other monitoring program.

Hi. My emachines WinXP desktop is acting up, extremely slow (approx 5 mins to execute a command) Celeron 330 chip, 120gb HD with about 80gb free space, 256mb RAM (I know, buy more....). I've installed AdAware, AVG Anti-Spyware, unable to install Spybot S&D (gives an "administrator policies prevent this installation" warning, even though I'm installing while logged on as Admin), all that can be run have been run in Safe Mode and reveal moderate tracking cookies (around 100 per scan). I know there are posts against and posts for this tweak for relocating the TMP and Temp files in Variables, but more posts say to relocate it OFF an SSD drive.

My Computer is fairly new running OS Windows 7 Premium 64Bit on a 220 gig SSD with 1 tet disk drive for data.

I created a folder on my D:\ [Disk] drive called D:\Windows Temp Files - then went to Advanced system Variables and edited the locations of both my TMP and Temp... Rebooted right away and now it's been over a month but nothing is vissable in the new folder?? [all Hidden and System files are enabled in view] My computer, updates, etc., etc., are running fine..

I checked the new Variable settings I edited and they are both still there: D:\Windows Temp Files
If I remember correctly I think the default use to be: %user profile%\appdata\local\temp < but I'm not possitive!

Can someone answer a quick question,
Thanks,
Bobkoz

Shouldn't I be seeing them in the new folder?

Answer:Deleting Windows TEMP folder & Temp Int files/ IE5

Mostly yes- but sometimes those in the temp folder are in use at the current moment; reboot into safe mode and you can safely delete them all. Otherwise only delete those with a date earlier than the date of your last reboot.

Hi everybody, I would like some help!

I recently bought a new fan to help with cooling as the summer approaches. My new fan replaces my old chassis fan but is plugged in slightly differently as it is plugged into the 3 pin mother board connector (the old one was plugged into the molex and is now positioned as an intake fan at the front).

My problem is that since I've installed the new fan my computer is actually louder than before, Everest tells me that the revs for the new fan are 5114 rpm as I type this so it's clearly working too hard. I think it's working too hard because my processor fan is only idling by comparison at 1705 rpm. Which temperature does the chassis fan use to control it's speed and why has my CPU fan suddenly become lazy since I installed the new fan? Is there anything I can do to make the CPU fan work harder and take some of the burden off of the chassis fan?

Many thanks for any help!

Temporary internet folder and windows temp folder are they the same?I have noticed that i have something like 50mb of files in my temporary folder. Can i delete these files? If i delete them will that affect the performance of the computer? When i delete temporary internet files from the internet tools options menu. (The option to keep history for a certain amount of days is set to 0 days)it shows cleared. Will some of these files be staying else where. If so how can i find and delete them? like some clips and things downloaded from the internet will they lie at some other place on the pc? Is there some method to avoid this?CheersTHE SAINT

Answer:Temp internet and windows temp folder

THE_SAINTWhat are Temporary Internet Files?Temporary Internet Files are, in fact, the cache of the Internet Explorer. This means that when you load a web page with Internet Explorer, it is saved on your computer so that if you later decide to open the same page again, it will open a lot faster. Temporary Internet Files improve speed of web browsing and also make possible so called offline browsing, which gives you the ability to open the web pages from cache even when you are not connected to the Internet. Despite all these positive things about Temporary Internet Files, they have one big drawback: they compromise your privacy. Everyone with access to your computer can look into your Temporary Internet Files folder (location of this folder is discussed here) and see the sites that you have visited in the past. You can manually delete the contents of Temporary Internet Files folder (explained here) but this will not erase all traces of the pages because a special file called Index.dat is placed in this folder and it will still preserve the names and even the dates of your first visits to many pages. Windows temp folder.....http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000225.htmHope this helps you .dl65

My CPU temp is sitting at 27 deg. Celsius.

My Core temp is sitting at 57 deg. Celsius.

These are my idle temps.

The room is fairly cold.

I have a large exhaust fan, 1 intake fan from the top, one intake fan from the side, and a stock heatsink / fan on my processor.

I don't know what my base temps were before this started happening but under load my cpu comes up to about 45 - 55 and my core goes 75+.

They system freezes up when it idles at 75 for too long.

I tried cleaning off and replacing the thermal compound. Maybe needs more compound? But the CPU says that its cool....
ANY IDEAS!?!?

Sometimes the room temp is 80-85f with the a/c on cause I live in the desert. My cpu temp is idling at about 57c and 62c under load. When the room was about 70f the cpu temp was about 7 degrees lower. I want to cut out a hole in the side of my case and install another fan to exhaust the hot air or maybe blow more room air in to get it cooler inside the case. I think the 6800xt video gpu is getting hot but I don't know how to monitor it's temp. I haven't tried thermal paste like arctic silver yet. I could cut out a hole in the top of the case too and add a fan. Any thoughts on the optimum way to lower the temps?

Answer:CPU temp versus room temp

you could start with the refreshing of your thermal paste cleaning everything as u do it (heatsink, etc). This is certainly a good start. I have a front inlet at the case front (120mm) with 2 x 120mm exhaust and this seems to maintain temps well (42C at the moment).

Answer:what's the difference in folder %temp% & TEMP

%TEMP% and TEMP are very different.%TEMP% is an environment variable that refers to your accounts temp folder. TEMP does not refer to an environment variable at all. Entering TEMP will locate a in your system path, probably c:\windows\temp.

Hi Guys,

Well I got a few questions that I need to get answers too, becuase a friend came over tonight and after talking about his PC woes, I got a bit worried myself, becuase of tempatures that cooked his PC, is what my PC runs at as standard. Plus it made me think about other weird issues, and maybe they are heat related.

First off, my processor! (P4 3.06Ghz - C1R, EM64T, HTT, 1MB L2, 533FSB)
Currently my computer is in the loungeroom in the corner, but it's having a issue every now and then, I could be playing a game, any for that matter, or just surfing on the internet, going along nice and smooth, then all of a sudden my screen freezes, including the mouse cursor, it's like a 'Print Screen' version of my desktop, it will stay in this state for around 3 seconds and upwards, but the average is about 5 seconds when it does happen, I start closing browser window, and any other application just to see what happens, but it doesn't appear to have any affect, It happened a few hours ago, I left my PC running after closing everything to see if it would fix itself, but it doesn't, to stop this problem, I have to physically hard restart my computer, then my PC is fine again. The only thing left I could think it could be, would be my CPU, becuase it runs at 51c on average.

Secondly, my mouse!
I have a Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse (USB) and sometimes when I turn my computer on, or do a hard restart, my mouse is not on, no power, no nothing, I have to... Read more

Is it a good idea to run the %temp% and c:\windows\temp commands every month or so, even if your not having any problems, just as a matter of maintenance?

Answer:%temp% and c:\windows\temp questions

I'd advise you to use something like this utility, free, we use this a lot here >>> http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/files/file/187-tfc-temp-file-cleaner-by-oldtimer/

How often to use is up to you, I would think every week or two, based on how much the computer is used.....
On some I use it almost daily and especially on machines kids here use.

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/files/file/187-tfc-temp-file-cleaner-by-oldtimer/

TFC only cleans temp folders. TFC will not clean URL history, prefetch, or cookies. Depending on how often someone cleans their temp folders, their system hardware, and how many accounts are present, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or more. TFC will completely clear all temp files where other temp file cleaners may fail. TFC requires a reboot immediately after running. Be sure to save any unsaved work before running TFC.Click to expand...

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yo... Read more

Have Windows XP Home Ed (Serv Pack 2)

Have a number of "Temp" directories on the C root directory (Directory names such as: "Adobe Acrobat.temp" - "Console.temp" - "Display.temp" - "DLA Writing.temp" - "McAfee.temp" - "Intel chipset.temp").

Near as I can tell these directories were created when I installed these programs, but not completely sure.

I have learned the hard way that, "Not all temp directories can or should be deleted."

Have no problem keeping these directories in the C root directory IF THEY ARE NEEDED. Otherwise want to keep HD clean, lean, mean.

TWO QUESTIONS: 1. Are these directories needed after install?

2. If NOT needed, why don't these install programs clean the garbage off the HD after install, when no longer needed? Not cleaning-up after install seems like "Malicious Indifference" to the user's best interests, after that user paid for and installed that software mfg's program. It's malicious laziness and indifference.

Hello from my understanding of tempory files you do not need these after the program has been installed. I delete these on a regular basis my-self so you should be able to. Click start, run and type %temp% and press enter, this will take you to the tempory folder.

Hope this helps

Hi!

I have this problem with Asus p5q3 motherboard my system temp goes up to 60-70(celsius) and cpu (intel core 2 quad q9550) temp is low as 30-40(celsius).
So how can system temp be that high?

Answer:Help system temp high and CPU temp low?!

That can't be right - I'm guessing that the reported temperature is simply wrong.
What are you using to monitor these temperatures? I suggest trying Speedfan in Windows: SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

When I flashed my bios yesterday I noticed that my cpu was somehow overclocked. It was running at 3.3ghz and 1.5v. I went in the bios returned the temps back to the stock speeds. Before the bios flash my temps according to Everest (which is 100% accurate) were around 36-36-36. Now after this whole thing, they are 36-36-46. My CPU temp is 10C higher than the core temps. I'm sure that this is the case. I've checked bios settings, cpuz showings, everest showings. Everything is as it should be except for the 46 cpu temp. I know that these temps are good, and some people would say to just leave it alone, but I want to figure this out. I've been thinking, and I thought that maybe the bios before were wrong and the temps were wrong, so actualy the showings now are the correct ones(i think is highly unlikable).

Need some help with this issue.

Answer:CPU temp higher than Core temp

I'd say don't worry about it.I have a Q6600 that has different temps for each of its 4 cores and the CPU temp is almost always 10 degrees lower. Although, a while back in my motherboard forum, there was a discussion about a new BIOS update that reports higher temps for my motherboard, so it might be possible that the new BIOS is modified to report different/more accurate temps.

Ok, so core temp shows both my cores as of now at: 42 celcius

Real Temp shows both my cores as 31 celcius

Which would you say would be the trusted source here?

Answer:Real Temp v Core Temp

I don't know too much about RealTemp...I do have CoreTemp and it seems pretty accurate, considering I'm using a MacBook. Idle is always between 54 and 60.

What hardware/cooling are you using?

To begin with Word 2000 was stuck in full view with no toolbars. So I did what the pros told me to do and added the /a in the run menu. That seems to work for new documents but not for the old ones of which there are thousands. Also the fix does not remain and word continues to open in full view with no toolbars unless i do the /a thing. To top things off I don't get a Normal.dot when I use search. Does that mean I'm not normal? Thanks Bill! Anyhow, is there any fix for such an abnormal problem?

Answer:No Normal.dot found on my machine? Does that mean I'm not Normal?

To me that does sound Ab normal considering that when you find the normal.dot doc, you erase it, and Word is suppose to re-create this file automatically. I would suggest un-installing and re-installing the software. If it continues after that well then I would personally write Bill a letter and tell him he owes you lunch!!!

I have 3 trojans and viruses that I want to remove. My computer has been starting up really slow lately, so is the internet. It is making more sounds than ever before.

The three files are
C:\\Windows\Assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini
C:\\Windows\Assembly\temp\u\00000002.$ or @

Whenever BitDefender ''successfully'' removes them, they always come back.
If you need me to show you logs or something, please ask and I will do so.

I deleted everything in that folder which was about 5GB and also emptying the recycle bin soon after but within an hour another set of temp files almost 5GB are again loaded in that same folder. Now my hard drive has no more space left. I have deleted that folder several times in one day but theres no end to it filled up.
Is there a way to stop this ?

Hello
I recently installed 2 updates from NVIDEA.
I have run disc clean up and Ccleaner>Windows but this attachment says it all.
I could use 'Unlocker' but do not want to do damage if the file should not be removed.
Do you have any suggestions?

Answer:Temp folder %temp %

It's good to be cautious. That Folder may be important to your graphics adapter and removal could cause problems. However, I have deleted such Folders without issues except once and all I had to do was re-install the drivers.

Checking the Bios, My CPU is running at a Temp in the 44-50 C range and the Case temp seems to be around 36-40 C. I have a stock heat sink w/ fan and do not overlcock. I have a P4 630, an Asus P5GD2-Deluxe Mobo, and the Antec P160 case.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to lower the temps. I know they are not bad, but when just loading my machine and running the bios for 10 minutes, I don't think the CPU should be that hot.

I have 1 intake fan on the front of my case (120mm) and another out fan on the back (120 mm).

How much difference would better wire management make. (Right now Its a mess, although I tried to organize them somewhat out of the way!)

Thanks for the help.

Domer

Answer:CPU Temp and Case Temp

Well, the case temperature should not be more than 8-10C over the room temperature at idle. I prefer exhaust fans to intake fans as a rule, since they're generally more effective. I actually removed intake fans from two of my large tower systems and lowered the temperatures by 3-4C with no other changes. The indications I see are that your processor cooling is decent, but the case cooling is sub-standard.

If you remove the side cover, and the temperatures fall significantly, that's a clear indication that you need better case cooling.

Chances are, you have Malware.  Programs that are using internet access that you can't see.  Run Malwarebytes, Hitman and AdWare cleaner.
