Dear readers,

Every time i have to use something involving

The sound isn't played smoothly there are pauses and there is a big cracking
sound sometimes in it.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L665D - sound isn't played smoothly - crackling sound

Hi

I think this is not related to faulty sound card but due to old iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) driver.

I found an thread about very similar issue.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=60231

Update of the iRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) to version V10.1.0.1008 or higher should solve this problem.

I recommend trying this out!

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

lelouIt's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

Every couple of days I have to reinstall my soundcard, as it begins to make horrible distorted, scraping noises. Oddly, Media Player plays fine, but other things--Windows sound effects, games--make this horrible noise.

Got the latest drivers. Any suggestions?

Hi

I have Satellite A200. When I start my notebook the crackling sound comes from the hard disc.
Does anyone know something about this?

Thanks
Vikas

Answer:Satellite A200 - crackling sound comes from the HDD

In my opinion it?s nothing wrong with your HDD.
My HDD clicks everytime while accessing any data on the notebook and everything run ok since 3 years.

But this doesn?t mean that there is no hardware problem with your HDD. Generally it?s not easy to say when an HDD wound starts to malfunction. My first HDD died after 6 years of usage. But the other HDD died after 1.5 years. This damage was covered by warranty.

Finally I would recommend backup your data always on an external HDD to prevent the data from damage.

Hi
I have Toshiba Satellite A100-709 Laptop.
I have just installed Windows XP Home Edition from attached original Toshiba Recovery CD and all the updates from microsoft.
I downloaded latest Sound driver and bios update from Toshiba website for this laptop.

I have updated the bios and installed sound driver for "Realtek HD Sound Card Driver".
When playing sound crackling sound is heard independently on source (.mp3, .vaw, streaming sound).
Crackling sound is emmiting both from speakers and headphones.

Interesting is that when I've started Linux Live (Knoppix version) on this machine, sound was clear.
Service Support can't help me, they don't know what's going on.

Please could you help me to solve this problem ?

Many thank
---
Jacek

I just got a new Satellite C870-198 and the audio started crackling after about a week.

It seems to happen with external speakers, headphones and also with the onboard speakers (i.e. all the time). Windows 8 was frustrating me anyway so I installed windows 7 on it but the problem is still there.

The crackles are most noticeable when the music I'm playing is louder. I've tried uninstalling the audio drivers to try some different ones but they always reinstall themselves every time I restart. I don't really know what I'm doing. Sometimes it makes a brief buzzing sound like electronic interference or something too.

Any ideas?

Answer:Crackling sound on Satellite C870-198

Hi

To be honest I?m not quite sure if the issue you have described is really a ?notebook problem? because you said you have noticed the crackling noise playing the music loud.
From my point of view it could be a common behavior while plying a loud music.

You are using Win 7 now.
On the Toshiba EU driver page (Satellite C870 PSCBAE) you can find 3 sound drivers.
Realtek, nVidia, SRS
All the drivers need to be installed.

Furthermore you can find advantage settings in control panel -> Realtek HD Audio Manager.
Here you can change the sound properties. Check it out.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba satellite L755-13k and there is a crackling sound that seems to happen when watching youtube clips or videos on facebook or listening to music. It definitely isn't the speakers themselves as its not constant.

I was wondering if anyone had a solution for this?

Answer:Crackling sound on Satellite L755-13K

Does this clicking noise come from speakers?
Some people have reported about clicking noise but it has been identified as noise produced by HDD.

I have a Satellite A100 PSAA9C-TA902C. (It's my 5th Toshiba laptop)

My last one was able to do the following: play music written in a music writer, which is thru the midi mixer, and record as a wav through Blaze Audio. On the last machine, A25-S279, I was able to select the SW Synth from the input list. This mixer is not available for selection on the A100.

I contacted Realtek. Was told this feature is not supported by Realtek for the ALC861 Audio Device installed in the A100.
The lastest driver has been installed.

It's very hard to believe that a Media edition machine has such restrictions. I've never encountered this problem on a computer before.

What I want is to record from any device. But, the system won't let me select SW Synth. It exists on the Output list. Not the Input.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to record sound played through the mixer to a wav recorder?

Stephen

Answer:Satellite A100 PSAA9C: How to record sound played through mixer

How about using an 3rd party application???
Try to use the ?All Sound Recorder XP? I don?t know the latest version but try version 2.28. it?s a shareware license and you could test it.

I have recently had to replace the hard drive on my Satellite L350.
Since then the sound has been crackling.

I have downloaded the up to date drivers, deleted re-installed the driver still crackles.
Any other pointers?

Thanks. Dawn

Answer:Satellite L350 - Crackling sound after HDD replacement

Hi

Did you install the Window OS using the Toshiba recovery disk or did you install a clean Windows OS using Microsoft disk?

I would recommend using the Toshiba Recovery disk to install the OS once again.
Furthermore the sound chip is from Realtek so I think you should also choose the sound driver directly from Realtek page.
There you can find always the newest driver for the chip.

Hi All,

I've recently just purchased a new P100 - 160 and on the whole I'm chuffed to bits with it.

However, there's one thing that's really bugging me... and that's the sound quality.

When I purchased the laptop one of the selling points was that it had "Harman/Kardon" which are supposed to be really, really good. Now, from a 3D / Surround sound point of view, I've got to say that they certainly seem to live up to what I was told.

However - In terms of "volume capability" the speakers seems not to give the maximum.... and I'm not talking about having the volume so high that the neighbours can here it either!

Turn the speakers up more than about 1/4 of the way, and the sound/speakers crackle very mad - especially when it's playing anything with even a slight bit of bass.

I've tried changing the equalizer and volume settings in Media Player but that didn't help either.

Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone know what the fix may be?

Thanks
Kessa

Answer:Crackling sound from speakers on Satellite P100-160

You?re right.
The notebook is definitely delivered with Harman/kardon speakers and usually such speakers are also known as "good quality" speakers.
Therefore I have investigated a little bit in this forum for similar issues and found this link to the Toshiba document about crackling noise on Satellite P100.
http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB6801JF0000R01.htm

It seems the BIOS and driver update should be done.
One tip: You could try to remove the old sound driver files before install the new one.

good luck

Help, please. I have the above laptop, and the sound is driving me mad, when ever I try to play music the distortion, vibrating and crackling noises that it makes completely ruins the pleasure of trying to listen to the music, it seems worse, when the hard drive green light is flashing quickly.

The sound problem is not only limited to playing music, the windows sounds scheme is just as bad.

Also is there supposed to be this intermitant 'whoosing' sound like waves on a sea shore coming from the cooling fan area?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Vibrating and crackling sound on Satellite L30 PSL33E

Hi

I?m an owner of the Satellite L30 with Vista. It?s my second notebook.
I can listen to my mp3 without any problems!! Everything works great.
The notebook is a little bit slower with Vista but this is ok.

One question; Did you notice the same sound problems if you play a audio CD??
It would be very interesting to know if the sound is bad only if you are listening to the mp3 files stored on the HDD.

Did you check the sound options?? In the Vista control panel you should find the Realtek HD audio manager.
It?s also installed on my notebook.
There you can set the different sound effects, speaker configuration and the default format.

I would recommend checking this!

Hello,

now that my CMOS problem is fixed i thought about posting the next one. Before it seems as if I am a newbie, I can say that I am really experienced with Desktop PCs and I never had such problems. It seems as if everything changes when you switch to a laptop. Like don't leave the ac adapter on when akku is charged cause it can weaken it over time...annoying CMOS unloadings.....don't suspend your laptop to too much heat because of the akku...and so on and so on.

Well now it is the sound under windows....it seems as if every time the lap is getting out of sleep mode, the sound is crackling all time. Even the "geeting out of sleep mode" sound crackles.
I updated the sound driver and tried even some new codecs and the sound card settings. But it still crackles. Sometimes when i watch a movie then, the movie is jumping and the sound is crackling. So it's like a performance problem (like playing a dvd on a 90 MhZ Pentium with 32 MB RAM).
What could this now be?

Answer:Satellite P100-102 sound crackling under windows

Hello Stefan

Like you can see the notebooks are a little bit sensitive but don?t worry about that. After just a few months you will not want to use desktop anymore.

Back to your problem: check HDD activity while you watch the movie. Maybe runs something in background and disturb it. As far as I know on this unit there is NORTON virus security application preinstalled. Try to disable it for a while and check if unit runs better and faster.

If this is your first laptop play a little bit with all settings and check how all tools and utilities works. Believe me when the notebook is once configured well it will works without problem.

Hi,

I recently started having problems with the sound on my laptop which is 5 months old.

It makes a crackling sound on startup and also when playing videos, it sounds like interference at times and is more noticeable at higher pitched sounds.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled the audio device and drivers but to no avail.

The sound is the same when played through TV or headphones aswell.

Does this sound like a trip to the shop where i bought it is needed as its still under warranty ?

Answer:Satellite C660-117 - crackling sound on startup

Hi buddy,

Do you use the preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba or have you installed your own version?

Generally speaking everything what you have tried is correct and the only option you still have is recover your notebook back to factory settings using Toshiba recovery disk. The disk will restore the original out of box settings with all drivers and tools so you have the same settings as you purchased the notebook.

If this still doesn?t work you must contact an authorized service provider because it looks like a hardware malfunction but it?s covered by warranty ;)

I have bought a new Toshiba laptop yesterday and started using from today afternoon but since then I am experiencing a crackling noise from my right speaker I want to whether there is any problem or it?s because of the moisture.

Answer:Crackling sound from new Satellite L500-1XC right speaker

It is not easy to say what is wrong there but if you have this crackling sound permanently maybe is there some serious problem with the speaker.
Try to contact your local dealer as soon as possible and ask for replacement. In my opinion he should take the notebook back and give you new product.

Have you checked the Windows sound settings?
Maybe there is a wrong option.

You should also make sure that in the Sound software are the settings correct.
As far as I know you have a Conexant sound card and therefore you must have similar software like Sound Effect Manager on notebooks with Realtek sound card.

I have an L650 - 10D, bought around 1 month ago.

1. I have this problem, whenever i listen to music, play games, watch movies my sound lags ( makes a crackling sound ) once every 20-40 seconds.

I reinstalled the windows, i installed the latest drivers, i made all windows updates ... still same results.

Is there any fix for this, or do i have to go refund it.

2. Also one the lower left corner of he screen, i have an irregular shaped dot, that can be seen on light colors, especially on white. The image has a bigger luminosity in that area. I never hit the screen never did anything bad .... that's how i got it out of the box. But i realized it after a few day, because you can see it only on colors close to white ...

Can this be fixed? or i should refund my laptop?

I had the same issue with crackling sound that gone after a display driver (not from Toshiba but from vendor's site. However, it's not recommended as on vendor's site the driver doesn't have an overheating protection). In this forum, I read that bios can solve this problem but be careful updating bios.

Hi,

I have a L650-10D, 6 months old and I have the following problem:

When playing some games, videos (720p - quality) and sometimes videos from websites (like youtube) after some minutes of playing sometimes the image on the screen freezes/frame rate drops, and I can hear in the speakers a crackling sound (similar to the noise when plugging the headphones).
This takes a couple of seconds, 2-5 seconds depending if I stop or not the movie or I pause the game.

Has anyone had this problem? And is there a solution for this or a cause? (I thought it was because of Windows, but I recently re-installed it and same problem appeared).

Thanks,

Hi there.

I have just purchase a new laptop (L650-OED) which is running windows 7 - 32 bit.

The in-built speakers make a crackling noise and only work intermittently. When you adjust the volume up or down they work for a few seconds and then cut out.

I have tested the sound through the headphone jack which is working perfectly. I have also reinstalled the device driver (Conexant HD Audio 4.119.0.61) but it has not made any difference.

Is there anything else I can try or is this a warranty issue?

Appreciate any advice.

Regards
Pete

Answer:Satellite L650-OED In-built speakers crackling and intermittent sound

>I have tested the sound through the headphone jack which is working perfectly.
Hmm?. for this would mean that this has nothing to do with the sound card or with the sound driver but with the faulty speakers.

Therefore I recommend asking an technician for an notebook check? possibly the speakers needs to be replaced. If warranty is valid, then everything should be done free of charge.

The crackling sound is coming from the TV speakers. Right?

Can you hear the same crackling sound using the notebook speakers or headphones?
If no, then I don?t believe that this issue could be related to sound driver.

In your case I would check the settings in control panel -> sound -> playback tab -> digital audio -> Configure

All sound from the PC fades out over the course of ~2 seconds only to instantly return when a new (loudish) sound is made. It almost feels as if the headset is raising its baseline of noise after a bit and things the normal sounds are just nothing until a loud sound comes in and makes it realize there is still noise to be played. Best way to describe it is having poor thresholds set to a VoIP voice detection, you make a loud noise and it will kick on and detect lower noise for a bit before shutting down again.

Headset is a Skullcandy PLYR2 Wireless Headset USB plugged directly into MoBo

I have not had this issue happen when using my monitor's speakers (HDMI into GPU)

There is no sound card on this PC, and I've not been able to find any sort of software to control the audio processor outside of the windows playback enhancements.

Windows Communications volume attenuation is set to do nothing, VoIP programs are off as well so as to rule out those. No enhancements are on in windows playback enhancements.

When you use a USB connected headphone (wired or wireless) you do not use the PC's sound card, The USB system does the conversion from digital to analog audio. Thus the problem is somewhere in the USB headset system.

Hi folks,

Recently I was setting up a VPN client (PacketIX), and the setup wizard suggested some Audio/Video Streaming "Optimization" tweaks. I didn't pay attention and confirmed.

Since then, I often hear some crackling / popping noises. For instance, this systematically occurs when I Alt/Tab between a running game and my desktop.

An obvious guess is that the damn VPN client messed up some sound settings, but I can't figure out what to do.

I've found a good deal of DPC latency workarounds around here which I tried in vain.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Answer:[Sound crackling ] VPN client messed up my sound settings

Then reinstall the VPN client and don't let it fiddle with the audio settings.

Hello, about 3 days ago i bought a sealed brand new HP OMEN 17-W03np which comes with Windows 10 Home (64-bit), i noticed there were some problems with the sound which have been a constant problem since day one. Before and after any sound plays there are these pops/crackling sounds that are noticable (and pretty irritating), the sound appears to play fine after it starts but in a few occasions the sound actually started breaking and there were random pauses while playing sound. There was also this one time the volume randomly went up and down on its own when pausing a sound (in this case it was a video) and then playing it again.Random pops/crackling have also happened while i was on my browser on web pages but there was no sound sources in the web page at all. I've attempted to use earphones while testing sound, and while using them the pops/crackling sound sometimes come out through the earphones, but sometimes they also come out through the notebooks built-in speakers despite the fact the sound is then played through the earphones (which i found pretty strange). This is my first experience with HP and i have to say i am feeling quite dissapointed, could this be a software problem or will i have to send my notebook back? I'd also like to point out that no major program/software installations have been done as this is a brand new notebook so most of the programs/software in it right now are the ones that come pre-installed with the notebook. I will a... I've been having issues since February's windows updates with crackling sound typically in DirectX games and some video playback such as Steam. In an effort to isolate the problem out I've gone over all my drivers and dust contamination yet again this month. I removed both the 3.51 and 4.01 Klite packs and the VLC player I had been using. Registry cleaned and defragged.

My sound card is an Audigy Fatality champion series with the front panel breakout box.

June 3 2009 driver for it #6.0.1.1373

Dxdiag attached as well.

Next on my list is to see if maybe there's new drivers for my tv tuner capture board which does have sound card resources apparently.

As a side note, I use Ventrilo daily. When ever I launch it after a fresh reboot and connect to a server it locks the PC up for like 90 seconds before behaving normally and displaying the MOTD. It's done this for maybe 6 months. Whenever I have bad game problems I can generally disconnect and reconnect from the vent server without that little annoyance. I want to lay the blame at DirectX, but I've tried several forced updates of it without any improvement.

Playing in the APB beta as well, and thru tips from those players disabled multimedia network throttling in the registry which improved in game performance there a ton.
I really do not want to reload this machine as it takes an eternity to get everything back the way I like it.

Hi Everyone,

This issue has been going on for about a year now, both on 32 and 64 bit XP. My computer is around 3 years old, and no hardware has changed since then.

All my drivers are up-to-date, BIOS updates, software, patches, windows etc.

I have had lots of "theories" or "temp fixes" sent to me but in reality are not suitable.

When I play music (with any player) sometimes the sound crackles, to resolve the issue I have to pause then unpause the song and it stops for the duration of that song.

My Sound Card:

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 Sound Card - OEM (PCI-Express)

I have found lots of information, but non suitable.

Sound issues with crackling and popping
A number of owners of X-Fi cards have come to experience what is known as a constant popping and crackling noise during use of the cards. Creative has attributed the case to be NVIDIA nForce motherboards, however many other users who do not use these motherboards continue to experience the sound issues. Creative has not provided a fix as of yet for this

I have 680i SLI NIVDIA motherboard.. but none of the above fixes work.

There's tons of websites/webpages with people having the same problem.

Answer:Sound Blaster X-Fi [Sound issues crackling]

It's a bit hard to suggest without going through everything to see what you might have tried already (although I did have a look at your second link and a very quick look at the third). So please excuse if you have already tried the following, or if they seem too obvious (more hardware than software suggestions, as you have perhaps been trying mostly software, by the look of it).

It kinda sounds like something's deteriorating, and when you give it a moment to rest, it resets itself.

You haven't mentioned anything about your speakers (or headphones). Are they OK? Have you tried others, or tried yours in another computer? Can you try a USB speaker (if you haven't got that already)? How are the connections/cables/jacks?

Do you have an onboard audio driver you can try (ie take out the sound card)? Can you borrow a sound card to try?

Maybe it's a poor connection, including solder joint, in there somewhere. Hard to track down - have to try swapping things.

Is your problem confined to one medium (CD/DVD, stored audio files, downloaded music), or does it happen with all types?

Does it happen when you're eating Rice Bubbles? -D) (It's late, OK?)

Any possibility of interference from nearby electronics or electrical appliances?

Is your power supply unit OK? (Don't know why these last two items would be fixed by pausing the song, but I'm running low on ideas - maybe I'll stop here and let someone else have a go...)

My motherboard is a PCCHIPS M848LU V1.2 http://www.pcchipsusa.com/prod-m848lu.asp and the onboard sound is a C-Media AC97 (I don't know the exacts of it, but I think I can find out) It has up-to-date drivers

I just bought this comp from maincomp.com, its an AMD Athlon XP2600+, maxtor 30gig 7200rpm hd, 128mb ddr pc2100 ram (512 PC2700, whenever it gets here...) nvidia 128mb geforce4mx440, Windows XP Professional SP1a, 52x24x52x cd-rw..onboard NIC, onboard sound.

Anyway, whenever I play *most* (I say most because a few mp3s either from winamp radiostations or mp3s on my harddrive dont crack, but the sound quality is still alittle bad) it cracks some-what badly, some worse than others.. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and messing around with the settings, no help...everythings brand-new, so think it might be defective, or an hardware conflict? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Sound crackling, bad quality (onbored sound)

Well you could visit the PCCHIPS website and see if they have any updates for the Sound.

Also try another pair of speakers, could be bad speakers or a damaged cable/plug.

Thats a fairly nice machine, however you shouldn't have skimped on the motherboard - its one of the lowest end manufacturers of mobo's.

You may be better off by simple buying a PCI soundcard - I recommend a Creative Soundblaster - and disable the onboard sound. You'll get better quality sound and better performance in games.

In the last week, all sound on my laptop has started to crackle slightly. I changed headphones, but realized that thats not the problem. If i increase volume, the crackling gets worse, and distortion really sets in. Strange....only started happening last week. I have tried reinstalling my sound card driver, but no change there. Have looked around all my audio settings but cant find any clues. music etc is still listenable, but there is just a faint crackle constantly annoying me. and distortion if i turn the volume up louder.

Does this mean my sound card is wearing out?? or is it a physical prob inside?

my sound card is : Conexant AC link audio
i have windows xp home edition on a HP compaq nx4800

any help would be much appreciated!!

Hello,
I upgraded my Win XP to Win 7 like 1 month ago.
Downloaded all drivers (from their sites) updated them... then i open WMP 11 and start playing some music. After listening to that i heard some weird sound lag, I believe its called crackling. I searched on internet found some solutions, but none worked and none was for mine sound card.
This wasn't happening on Win XP.
Oh and if i have older version of driver it works way batter (only hear crackling when my cpu goes up to 1000MB (100%) ), but then my Microphone goes really quiet like I disabled microphone boost.

Hope you understand my problem.

I have a Satellite L655d S5550 and a few months ago it displays no video after a suspend caused by close LCD procedure as I always did.

After it I try:
a power draining
turn the RAM memories of slot
power on with just a memory
Strip and reaset hdd cables and odd
Clear CMOS

None of it works, the computer displays leds and hdd sound, cooler runs normally but still no video.
I have forgot it for a couple of months so I try to power again and for 2 times it displays video normally, but after the third time the no video issue returns.

After it i open the notebook and with it powered i did the strip of LCD cable from the motherboard and then the system shut down immediately.

So, since it the computer does not power with or without baterry.
The power led blinks and don't complete POST heatsinhk does not works.

Any idea?I fear that is a motherboard burnt, cause i am from Brazil and there is no replace to it.

Answer:Satellite L665D - No POST after LCD cable strip

I guess there is a serious hardware problem but from my point of few the display/internal LCD isn?t the troublemaker.

The point is that even if the internal display would be faulty, the notebook should power up properly and in connection with an external monitor, it should be possible to use the notebook.

To me it looks like the motherboard or motherboard part like GPU (graphic processing unit) might be faulty.
Such malfunction is an worst case because motherboard replacement is very costly procedure and I think it?s not worth to fix it in case the warranty isn?t valid anymore.

Greetins all,

Is there a way for me to decide where what sound is played?

I got it setup now that all communication is played though headset but all other sounds are sent out though the HDMI cable to my sound system.

I know some games and application allow me to select under options usually where I want the sound to be sent. But for most games and applicaiton they will only be played out though the default sound device.

Now I would prefere that game sounds would come out though the headset as well.

Or anyone knows if there is a program where I can select where to play what?

Lately, when i go into or out of hibernation, Windows XP (fully patched) plays a sound--specifically, the chimes file. If I delete the wav file, Windows just plays another sound. This is something I can obviously live with--but there's no place in the sounds control panel function that specifically deals with these events. I'd like them to be silent, like they used to be. Any thoughts?

Best,
Mark

Answer:Sound played going into/out of hibernation

This is a long shot, but you might try selecting a different Sound Scheme, reboot,
then go back and select your original scheme and see if that reinstates your original settings.

I'd also look at whether or not you have installed any new software or updated a driver.

My computer has no problem on startup. The problem only occurs if a lot of sound is played. I hear the intro windows sound fine and any music i may play but it will freeze the computer and start looping any sound being played after about 10 minutes. It also seems to be freezing before it can finalize the installation of Warcraft III.

I also have a soundblaster live, but i would get the same problem only windows would freeze either way - sound played or not. It would also seem to freeze on startup when using the soundblaster as well.

At the moment i'm using onboard sound. I have tried disabling onboard sound and installing the sound blaster as well.

There seem to be no conflicts with my devices.

I'm guessing it could be the motherboard, but i'm not sure how it would be failing in this way.

I've also tried new installations of xp, a new power supply, new hd, and other configurations.

Any help will be appreciated.

Answer:When sound is played, computer freezes.

Hi'

This is a strange one, does the computer freeze when doing anything else and does it do it if the speakers are turned off or unpluged?

How are your temps? Have you tested the ram?

I used to have an issue where a WAV audio file, such as music, played through windows media player would sound compressed, where heavier parts were noticeably dampened. It was quite obvious. For this reason, I used VLC as my player and things were fine, with no compression.

However, recently I've noticed that VLC now has the same behavior. I don't know if it was part of a recent update (2.1?) or not. I know it's not my audio card or driver, as I can fire up Cubase and everything plays just fine.

Any thoughts? How can I turn off compression at least in VLC? Thanks.

I did a reinstall of Windows 10 on my laptop last week. All went well and the first days I did not run into any problems. Two days ago however, my sound is disabled whenever a sound is played. Here's what happens: when I reboot my laptop I can see the speaker icon in my sys tray with the soundwaves. When I play a sound, I can hear the sound for about 1 second and then the sound is disabled. The speaker icon in the sys tray changes to an icon with no soundwaves but with a cross next to it. Whenever I click on the icon, I can set my audio level and can enable the sound again. But when I play another sound, the problems reoccurs. I already uninstalled the audio (Realtek HD) driver by uninstalling the Realtek software and uninstalling the driver, and then reinstalling it but to no avail. I also ran the Audio Trouble Shooter but to no avail either.Anyone has any suggestions?

Hi. I recently reformatted my Dell xps 400.. The only things I installed were :
1)Sound driver off of a disc,
2)Video Driver off of a disc,
3)Network PCI Adapter software.
In that order.

When I installed the sound driver, It did not work. It played system sounds, but they were very distorted and scratchy. When I'm doing nothing, I can hear scratching/crackling noises coming out of my headphones. I got tired of troubleshooting and left for a few hours. When I came back, my sound seemed to be working. There were still those crackling noises, but it was working. (I have this problem on both of my PC's. It seems that if I plug my headphones directly into the sound caard I get them, but if I plug them into the front of the computer, the scratching noieses are dramatically reduced. I had the headphones plugged directly into the soundcard at the time).

After 30 minutes of listening to the radio, it just stopped playing. Now I cannot hear any system sounds or anything; all I get are those scratching sounds.

What might be wrong?

PS: Here is Dell's driver webpage for the xps 400.I have not downloaded any of these yet. WHICH DRIVERS ARE ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY? http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?

PSS: I don't have any antiviral software at the moment. Is it imperative that I get some as soon as possible?

Edit: I plugged the headphones into the back and I can hear sond. It is extremely distorted like it was originally.

Hi,

The sound will become crackling and buzzy and then no sound at all although when I look at the speaker bar it is grrena nd moving.

I go to Control Panel and perform a SOund test. It shows the sound as moving and test results comes out ok but I dont hear anything.

Please help me.

Thank You

Answer:Crackling sound then no sound

Speakers are more than likely bad. If you do the sound test and don't hear anything + you hear odd sounds like crackling and buzzing thats going to be your sign. But, it wouldn't hurt to head over to Toshiba's website and pickup the latest sound drivers *just in case*.

This is a very strange and very creepy problem and I wasn't sure which forum to post this in.
My webcam is normally plugged in 100% of the time. For last few weeks I haven't used it because it fell down behind my desk and I was too lazy to get it again.

I am skyping with my friend right now and I unplugged my webcam to pull it back around blah blah you know cable problems..eventually put it in position on my monitor and plugged it back in...

And then something extremely scary happened. At first a split second of a song played (I have no music or sound playing software open and it was not a file I have on my harddrive to my knowledge). Then I heard a male voice say "kitty" ???????????? another fraction of a sound file I do not have on my computer.
Extremely freaked out I unplugged my webcam within seconds. I waited again and plugged it back in again and then the song played again for a few more seconds (oh and it's the ****ing Scooby Doo theme song by the way). I did this one more time and it did it again, I closed every window I had open (including firefox) and now it doesn't do it anymore. My webcam works fine but I am extremely concerned I have been hacked? I'm running a scan right now with Avast.

Please help I'm so creeped out

Answer:Random sound played with webcam being plugged in

Check something please:
Right click volume icon on notification area, go to Sounds (can also open from control panel).
Scroll down to "Device connect" and Test. See if that song will play.

Also run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

But why is it that you only want to playback individual blu_ray files?

They usually happen at about a 1 second rate. The computer starts slowing down ONLY when anything with audio is being played. The sound gets all distorted and the mouse starts moving around at like 5fps instead of its super smooth rate. For instance, it takes about 5 seconds from the windows welcome screen to simply showing my desktop picture. This happens for EVERYTHING that plays sound on my computer, whether it be youtube, or iTunes, Counterstrike, even emulators like ZSNES slow down. Some of these aren't insanely slowed down but the ones that take a bit more CPU to process like CS:S would majorly slow it down, or fullscreening a video or something may slow down the playback rate.

I recently got an external hard drive and a usb 3.0 adapter card. I also had to get a molex to sata power adapter cable for the card. Everything was fine for a few days, but now everytime I wake the computer from sleeping, it plays the sound indicating a device has been disconnected. Unplugging the drive doesn't stop the sound and jiggling the (somewhat loose) adapter cable while everything is plugged in and running doesn't seem to change anything either, but unplugging the adapter card from the power supply does stop the sound from playing. The sound isn't that annoying and there doesn't seem to be any issue with performance, but what I'm wondering is could this become a problem for the drive in the future?

Answer:Can I have sound played from both Bose Companion 5 and ADX H05 headset

Windows only allows one default audio playback device. There may be some 3rd party program that will do what you want, but I'm not aware of it.

Yesterday my sound was fine, i havnt installed any new software at all for ages. Today i turned my pc on and all the sounds are crackling even the normal windows sounds. I tried a new set of speakers and still the same problem. I updated my NVIDIA nForce Audio drivers and still the same. I checked all the sound settings and everything is fine, they are the same as they always been.

Any suggestions???

Please help, thanks!

Arron.

Answer:Crackling Sound!!!!

u said all the settings were the same but u may have missed this, check to see if your sound settings are set for digital out instead of analog....if you dont have digital speakers and it is, all you will hear is crackling.

Question: Crackling Sound

When I listen to music using Winamp or Windows Media Player (CD and MP3) after a while it gets crackly and sounds funny. If I stop it then play it again its fine. Its really annoying to have to stop and start songs all the time. Is there a way to fix this?

Answer:Crackling Sound

how much ram does your pc have? if it's less than 256 on xp then that can cause this type of problem. if this is the case then you can go to www.blackviper.com and go through his tutorial on xp and that will help free up the ram. Also download latest drivers for your sound device. if you have onboard sound the drivers will be located on the manufactures site for the mainboard or pc if you have a namebrand ie dell, hp. If you installed a soundcard then you'll have to go to the soundcard manufacturer's site to get the latest set of drivers. you probably know where to find your driver's but I add this info just in case you do not.

Question: Sound crackling?

Hello, just wanted to say sorry for my poor english.
So... My sound has been crackling/popping in alot of games and not only , also for mumble and this kind of stuff, same with Skype.

I have read many forums about this but couldnt find solution , i have heard that "outdated drivers" might be the problem... but the thing is i dont know what sound card i have :\

I'm using Windows XP
Heres what i have in my "Device manager - Sound , video and game controllers"
- Audio Codecs
-Legacy Audio Drivers
-Legacy Video Capture Drivers
-Media Control Devices
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-NVIDIA High Definition Audio
-VIA High Definition Audio
-Video Codes

And it happens even in games and things that used to sound fine , it all started happening after formating pc? I think

Please , help! Sorry if i didnt provide enghout info , please ask if u have any questions about my pc :\ and pardon my bad english once again

Answer:Sound crackling?

-NVIDIA High Definition Audio < are most likely the video card HDMI port audio drivers

-VIA High Definition Audio < should be a motherboard audio chipset and most likely the default audio chipset.

What is the brand and model of the computer? Or the brand and model of the motherboard if it's homebuilt?

this is really weird after my pc is on for a while like after i turn it back on from standby. My sound will be crackling when opening a file, program, website anything that uses cpu usage. Its more of a crackling sound like if i was moving around the plugs or something from the speakers. I know its not my soundcard because i tried another sound card. I put both of them in the same cab and i got about the same problem. After i restart my computer it seems to go away but i want to know whats the problem here.

Check to see if your speaker wires are near any power sources, and move them around. On a side note, you might want to read the rules and edit your signature accordingly.

Question: Sound crackling

Hi, A few days ago the sound on my Acer Aspire V3 - 772G, about 1 year old, started crackling and getting distorted. It doesn't matter if I'm using the laptop's speakers or my headphones, it's the same crackling noise. The noise doesn't start right away and isn't constant. This is however very annoying and frustrating. I did reinstall the audio driver but it made no difference.  I'm using Windows 8 if that matters. I'm really no good with technical stuff, please, I'd really really love to get some help here.

Answer:Sound crackling

Try to update chipset drivers too if any update is available.

I'm been having trouble lately with my PC. Admittedly it is 5 years old, however I don't really have the money for a new one at the moment.

What is happening is that when I run a game that it has never had any problems with before often everything slows down and the sound starts to distort with a crackling noise. This has been most obvious in Race 07 when there is a full grid of cars around me. Everything practically stops at this point. Normally I would chalk it up to the computer not being powerful enough but it has never had this problem before in that game. It sometimes also happens when watching a HD Youtube video. Some less intensive games such as Super Meat Boy seem to be okay.

I have also had an occasional BSOD on startup, I took a photo which you can see here.

I have the system information from dxdiag here.

My guess is the graphics card is on it's way out but apart this everything else is fine so I am hoping there is a fix for this. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Crackling Sound and Lag

The BSOD is referencing nvlddmkm.dll - which is a nVidia driver file.

Go to Visual Computing Leadership from NVIDIA and update your GPU drivers for your card to see if that alleviates the issues.

Hi guys! I have had this problem a lot of time ago... then I did a clean installation of win 10 and for a bit of time the problem seemed to be solved. My machine has been having a LOT of crackling sound in videos and music , especially on youtube since a couple of weeks and I don't know why. I did the update of bios yesterday and the crackling seemed to be even worse than before... what should I do? It's for sure a software problem. I have also tried the DPC latency checker and the back to the clean installation was working fine ; now it says I should have problems... before the value were always on the green level and now they are all yellow/red   https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8fd8FmXTIhVd2oxZG5tTmFzNmc/view?usp=sharing this is a link to the crackling I have. the sound is the same I hear, so it's not a problem of the mic I have used.  You can hear it very well at 16 seconds and so on....

Answer:Crackling sound y50 70

I hear a bit of static. Have you tried updating the Audio Drivers yet? If not, you should try doing that to see if that can fix the problem.

Question: Sound Crackling.

Hello all,
I have a refurbished Toshiba Satellite L650D laptop that I got exactly a year ago. Lately I've been having a problem where the sound goes crackly and even distorted when playing, and up until today I thought it was just me playing sounds too early because it would always go away a few minutes after start up.

Today it stayed around for 10 minutes, before I rebooted. After that it seemed normal at first, even the startup sound wasn't distorted, but about an hour later there is still at last some crackling in my music. It doesn't just happen with window's media player, but youtube as well and it first started to show up around october when I played Skyrim (I just blamed how much memory the game takes up).

I've tried disabling the enhancements (which seemed to be the solution for most others with this problem), I have done virus scans, I have even used the task manager to end some non essential processes that took up memory.

I have noticed in my searches that most reporting similar problems found it got WORSE the longer the computer was on, while in my case it's usually at its worst around startup.

I have all the latest drivers installed on my P50, but I still hear pop/crackling sounds whenever some audio is playing, irrespective of the source. There's a thread here which addresses pop sounds when nothing is playing, so this is a different case. You might think this might me due to clipping as I'm overworking the onboard amplifiers, but this is not the case because even at very low volumes I still hear the pop/crackling sounds. It's the type of sound you hear from someone with a severe cold trying to clear his very clogged nostrils. It's really irritating having to hear it about 5 times every minute. The most weird part of it all is that if I reinstall the drivers, the pop/crackling sound disappears entirely. However, they return after 2 or more restarts. I only experience this issue when the onboard soundcard is being used because I don't notice the issue through my external dac + amp combo. Can someone help here ?

Question: Crackling Sound

Hi all,

Am new to the forums so please be patient with me!

My machine is fairly old but runs Windows 7 32Bit perfectly fine. In fact I was amazed to find all the hardware is picked up fine and runs nearly as fast as XP did.

Have been using it for some time without issues but recently the sound has become what I would describe as crackly and breaks up. It happens when Windows boots and it plays the little intro tune, then when I log on its fine. Then if I play a Quicktime movie trailer for instance it crackles or Youtube etc.

My MSI motherboad doesnt have any downloadable drivers for Windows 7 so its using whatever is the defaults.

I have tried changing the sound settings to different qualities and also reducing it from 5.1 sound to 2 channel stereo but to no avail.

To make sure its not a hardware fault I have reinstalled XP and also Ubuntu with no issues at all.

I then reinstalled Windows 7 and immediately the crackling returns which puzzles me as I ran Windows 7 for months without issues.

I have also tried changing the emulation in the BIOS from AC97 to Azalia but again to no avail.

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Many Thanks

Paul.

Answer:Crackling Sound

Sounds like your on board sound isn't properly supported by windows 7. Did i read correctly that the crackling only happens on certain things? Also does your mouse lag or any applications lag when the crackling happens?

Hi jpg, Welcome to the Forum.

It might be best if you visit your motherboard manufacturers website to download the drivers. They might not be the newest but could be specialized for your particular board.

It is, or at least according to what is available from Abit it is,

Universal abit > Motherboard, Digital Speakers, iDome, AirPace, Multimedia

Seeing as what they have is the R1.90 and the latest is R2.10, I would go with the latest,

unless some of the other Realtek users have a better recommendation that the current driver.

So i finally got windows 64 bit running rather smoothly...
(I need 64bit for my computer specs)

unfortunately.. when I play music some of the songs crackle. (WMP)

I know this isnt interference, but seems to be a driver issue.. (so I think)
even tho the drivers are the latest version.

I plugged the speakers into the motherboard and they worked fine.

motherboard has got latest bios update (but that didnt fix the problem)

Ive looked for solutions, new drivers, fixes etc without any luck.

Ive googled this problem many times, but always find the wrong information or unanswered posts.

an example of the music crackling:

open WMP play a song, the song may crackle. if it does, press Pause, then click play, and the crackling will be gone.

Im totally baffled! and just dont know what to do. :confused

Question: Sound crackling...

So here is my problem,

I just got a new Win XP Media Center PC with 2 gigs RAM, 360 GB HDD, ATI Radeon video card etc.. I usually don't have many app's open at a time, but when I began playing the Sims I started using more RAM. The Sims 2 takes up about 550 MB of my PC's RAM. The sound on the game's sound crackles when the game is loading or if I am zooming in/out, even when I am clicking on items and giving commands. I tried EA tech support, but I then realized that the same sound crackling happens when I have many app's open using over 600 MB of memory.

I am using a Plantronics Gamecom Pro headset (USB). I tested the sound using a pair of stereo phone jack headphones, but the same crackling still happened.

What could be the problem? I checked all my sound codecs and everything seems to be working normally there.

Thanks everyone!
-Pat

Question: Sound crackling

Hi everyone,

For the past few months I've had a problem on my desktop PC, where for seemingly no reason after a few hours of being switched on, the sound will start crackling.

I'm using windows 7 service pack 1 as my OS, and at first i thought the problem was with windows but now I'm not so sure, as the crackling will also happen on my VM using win 7 pro, and also Ubuntu (the only 2 OS installed on my VM).although they are set to use the host audio.

I then began thinking it must be my speakers so i checked the connections, which seemed fine and them plugged in some headphones to listen for the crackling through them, and found the crackling was also happening throught the headphones so this must discount it being a problem with the speakers.

The crackling sound can best be described as like the sound of when one plays an LP and it kind of crackles at the start. It can get worse than that at times though where it will pop and can distort the music.

The crackling happens when i play youtube video's or if i listen to internet radio, or use Winamp or Windows media player, and sometimes even with windows system sounds such as when you click to go into a folder.

I'm using Realtek high definition audio and recently updated the drivers hoping this would fix it, to no avail.

So basically guys, i have no idea where to go from here, and was hoping people with far more knowledge than me could help me out, if you can I'd be eternally gratef... Read more

I have a 6 month old Toshiba laptop. The other day I put in a dvd; it made a huge whirring noise (this might be totally irrelevant btw) and since then, when I play sound on my laptop, it crackles. I recorded myself on Audacity and that came out poor quality too. I'm not very good at describing it but obviously something has gone wrong. Would it be a damaged soundcard? It's bound to be under guarantee so that's not an issue but I would like to know what the problem is.

Answer:my sound is crackling

Hello. I want to ask a question about my problem. I tried to search about my case, but it's seems I'm the only one in this world who has problem like that.

I have Asus P2W DH Deluxe motherboard with buit-in Realtek audio card (ALC882). My 5.1 audiosystem is connected via analog outputs.

A problem is:
When I start PC with Windows 7 Ultimate, first application that plays sound make huge noise to my audiosystem. In background of this noise I can hear quiet sound that must been played. After first noise played the other sounds plays properly. (For example - if you use sound themes - noise will play then your system is starting). Except only one application (only one that I recognize) that doesn't play noise - small mediaplayer AmpView.
This noise plays only with Realtek (I try to use my old SB Live - no noise at all, but SB Live supports only 4.0 audio). And this noise plays only when I use 5.1 mode in realtek (in 2.0 or 7.1 mode - no noise, but I don't want to use 2.0 and I don't have 7.1 audiosystem).
I tried to use different drivers - 2.37 and 2.40. Problem is still exist.
When I used this hardware with Win XP I doesn't have this problem.

Is there someone who has problem like mine? What way I can solve this?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Audio noise when first sound is played built-in Realtek

I may have been experiencing a somewhat similar problem. For example, if I play some music and after that leave the computer idle for a couple of minutes, the next time I do anything to produce a sound: starting playback of another song, opening a folder, emptying the recycle bin-I can hear a short, cracking sound just before the sound corresponding to my action.
I am also experiencing a constant sound from the TV card stream in the background, but I can only hear it when I turn up my speakers pretty loud without producing any other sound...
I never managed to find out what's causing this.
