Satellite L650-1HM freezes for a minute or two at shutdown

Question: Satellite L650-1HM freezes for a minute or two at shutdown

I have a year and 3 months old Toshiba L650-1HM, running the latest Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 and Fuduntu 2012.1 x86_64 Linux, I've updated the bios and every other driver I could find in order to try and fix this but so far nothing has worked.

My guess is the shutdown delay is caused either by the ethernet or wireless boards because while shutting down Fuduntu it locks on the "Shutting down NetworkManager:_" routine before resuming the shutdown sequence.

This happens in both windows and Linux.

Help?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L650-1HM freezes for a minute or two at shutdown

How to help when you use two own preinstalled operating systems? Who knows what is your OS configuration?
Who knows which applications are preinstalled?
Linux is not supported at all.

Your Windows is also your own installation. Where to start with our discussion?
Obtain second HDD for testing purposes, put it in your notebook, install original recovery image that you got with your notebook and test t with ?factory settings?. If the same happen again and again then we can say: OK there is maybe some software related issue or anything else.
Happen exactly.
Sorry but on this virtual way it is not easy to say what

Answer:Satellite L650-1N8 - Overheats and shutdown while playing

I had a similar problem with a Toshiba L300D, my problem was a dust wall similar to a sponge between the fan and the heatsink (the side one). I opened my case, removed the dust put it back, and all was ok.

If you are unsure how to do it right, I advise to go to a proper service, cleaning center for laptops.

Hey all,

i have been having trouble where my computer just freezes.

What usually happens is that i loose wireless connection, then everything slows down if i try to shutdown the computer will just stay on the shut down screen.
The only thing i can do i manually shutdown (keeping hold of the power button).

My Laptop is L650-11f

Answer:Satellite L650-11f just freezes

Hi dude

Did scan the system for some viruses or malware?
Should do that.

Furthermore I recommend cleaning the registry and removing some garbage from the system because it looks like a software issue and registry fix might be helpful.

Answer:Satellite L650 freezes

Hi

Notebook does not response only for a quick time (1-2sec)??
Sounds like some background processes would lock the CPU and therefore the Windows OS stops for some seconds?
For example an antivirus software which is running in the background could cause this.

Did you try to clean the OS in the past? I think you should do this?
Install the CCLeaner (good freeware tool) and clean the registry and delete some temporal stored files. Furthermore defragment the HDD and scan the OS for viruses.

My Laptop (Satellite L650) continuously freezes after connecting to wireless network (Router).

It freezes after sometime, connecting to network. It freezes randomly.

I have to shutdown by Power button. Mouse and keyboard totally freezing.

sorry for the lengthy query.

Answer:Satellite L650 freezes

Did the notebook freezes before the Win 10 upgrade?

It could be possible that the WLan driver or any other preinstalled software part isn’t fully Win 10 compatible.

What do you think?

I do have a strange problem with my new notebook Satellite L650.
Initial bootstrap is ok, and I can start working. Then, suddenly, after 5-10 minutes the notebook makes a shutdown and restarts itself !
The second start is fine and I can work normally for hours.
Is anybody having the same problem ???
What should I do ?
I have the most updated BIOS sw installed, suggested by Toshiba Bullettin Board but nothing changed.

Hi,

I have a L650-10D, 6 months old and I have the following problem:

When playing some games, videos (720p - quality) and sometimes videos from websites (like youtube) after some minutes of playing sometimes the image on the screen freezes/frame rate drops, and I can hear in the speakers a crackling sound (similar to the noise when plugging the headphones).
This takes a couple of seconds, 2-5 seconds depending if I stop or not the movie or I pause the game.

Has anyone had this problem? And is there a solution for this or a cause? (I thought it was because of Windows, but I recently re-installed it and same problem appeared).

Thanks,
Tudor

Good morning!

The first apologize for my English, I am Spanish and use a translator.

I have a Satellite C660-1NX (PSC1LE-00F00NCE), I had to reformat the computer, put on a clean Windows 7 64x (not recovery) with all original drivers giving official Toshiba page,

Everything looks perfect but when turn off the computer is completely frozen, I thought it was 64x and 86x and install the same, the first day all right, then started the same problem, eh updated BIOS, as usual, before formatting this did not happen, it is very weird,

I find the reason for the problem never happened to any computer this.

Best regards

?and what happen when you install the system using Recovery disk?
Does the notebook freezes too?

I doubt someone will be able to say why the unit does not shut down properly.
I think first of all its necessary to find out if its hardware or software related problem.

In case its software related issue, the recovery disk containing the configured Toshiba image should resolve this annoying issue.

This happens periodically without warning. I have ran my Antivirus scans in Safe Mode and in regular mode. I also have Malware-Bytes installed and ran a quick scan and a Full System scan and have found nothing out of the ordinary. Also, for some reason I see "Test Mode Windows 7 Build 7601" at the bottom right corner of my screen. Could this be causing the problem? How do I get rid of that and how do I fix the shutting down problem? I just installed CPUID HWMonitor so I can check my temps the next time that happens but I'm running pretty cool at the moment. Help me please...

Also, I have 2 video cards installed but this was happening before I installed the second video card.

I just bought one of these Dell D630 laptops which are coming off lease (32 bit, 2gb ram, XP Professional)

The issue is that this machine takes right around ten minutes to shut down. I ran a number of tests and everything came out fine:
Memtest86+ ok (I only ran it an hour, but no errors. I'm running the native diagnostics now, and it's testing memory)
SpinRite: perfect
System file check: no corrupt files
It's fully updated.

So I'm guessing there's some process running which is causing this, but I don't know how I would determine that since the shutdown process gets to the point where all the icons on the desktop have disappeared, so I can't get a task manager running to see what's really going on. But the wallpaper stays up for ten minutes, and then finally the little fanfare plays and it goes blue and says it is logging off and it seems to shut down normally from then on.

So I need to determine how I might get this machine to not get stuck on the Wallpaper and shut down normally.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi, I'm not having much luck with another post here having shutdown problems.
They can be a pain but here goes.
Memtest should run for about 8 passes - overnight even better.

In Task Manager - shutdown one program at a time - then shutdown the Pc.
You may see what is sticking at shutdown

Hi.

New to the forum and new to viruses and I wonder if anyone could help me please.

I'm running Win7 x64 and all of a sudden, my PC will not stay on.  Either in Windows or Safe Mode, I can't do anything that takes longer than one minute - it always shuts down and restarts (With a warning when in windows).  It will not stay on long enough for me to do anything but I can't see anything "Unusual" in the process list.

I'm happy to do anything that's asked of me, as I'm a bit of a novice with this stuff but I'm having to use a borrowed PC as I need mine for some important work, so any quick replies would be apprecieted.

Hi guys,

I've had x64 win7 installed for about a month, no troubles until now.

The last few days, whenever I shut down the PC for the night the "shutting down" screen is displayed for more than 15 minutes, at this point I just turn it off via the front power button on the case as I'm afraid to leave it all night saying that as I'm not that tech savvy.

Is there any way to figure out what's going on with the shutdown process? The following morning it starts up fine, and I restart with a disk check that comes up fine.

Answer:Windows 7 x64 15 minute+ shutdown (timeout?)

Welcome!

That is usually caused by a program that takes forever to close. What happens if you shut down as soon as it boots?

Next time, before you shut down, end half of the processes in Task Manager. Be sure to record which ones you close!

If the shutdown is quick, you know the rogue process is in that half. If not, try the other half. From there you can narrow it down further until you identify which program is causing the hang.

Yesterday, while using my computer, my anti-virus 'Microsoft Security Essentials' popped up stating it had found a virus. Within a second, a windows update window popped up with an update ready to install, followed immediatly by 'AntiSpyware Doctor' and a window saying 'Windows has encountered a serious error and will shut down in one minute' which it then proceeded to do. This continues to appear everytime the computer is started.

Starting the computer in safe mode allowed me to use Malware Bytes to eliminate Antispyware docter, as it no longer appears when starting the computer, however the error message ,above, still continues. I believe the problem occurs only when the computer is connected to the internet as it does not occur if i am able to stop my computer from automatically connecting to the internet upon startup.

I tried a system restore, however it fails and reports a problem with a file in the drivers folder in the system 32 folder. I am unable to interact with this file at all as the computer tells me it is unable to find the source disc whenever i try.

I have access to a Windows Install disc.

When I startup, the computer it starts regularly and sometimes I can get to the shutdown dialogue box in one second when I click the shutdown button. But sometimes I have a problem when trying to shutdown after a prolong period on the computer. I can shutdown easily using a shutdown program but this is more of an annoyance then anything. I think it's the Iyogi software I downloaded on the computer which is a big no,no. I've uninstalled the software and all it's components. I have a lenovo ideapady400 that is now almost 2 months old. Earlier today, I noticed that it did not properly go into hibernate when I shut it. The keyboard was still lit up, with no LCD display (including not if I hit Fn+F2) and with the fan at high rpms. I shut it down by holding the powerbutton, and upon rebooting it, it took over 4 minutes to get back to the desktop. It now requires the 4 minutes every time I restart, and it never goes into hibernate with the lid closed (it must be shut down by the power button).Fearing that the computer may be having a serious issue, I tried to make a backup with Onekey recovery, which failed to write a backup (repeatedly). It returned an error saying it couldn't access the partition. I then uninstalled onekey recovery, downloaded it again from the lenovo website. Now when I run onekey recovery it says my system is not able to write a backup.I am now stuck in a tough spot of not being able to backup my laptop and and not being able to do a recovery without losing everything. On the lenovo support site, when I select startup issues, the feedback it gives me is "Thank you for your question. This is a known problem and a solution is being developed. Please check back for updates."Anyone have any ideas what could be causing the main (shutdown/startup) issue? As the laptop is under warranty, should I just send it back to Lenovo?

Answer:ideapad y400 won't shutdown/4 minute reboot

hi hansweeks,

If you PC came with a HDD+SSD drive, try to boot into the BIOS (by repeatedly pressing F2 on startup) and check if both the HDD and SSD are detected (if you're missing one, that HDD might be faulty and needs to be replaced.

If both HDD's are detected (or if your PC came with only a SATA HDD) try to run an HDD diagnostic. Try HD Tune to run HDD error checking in WIndows or create a bottable HDD diagnostic (see steps below).

1. Download the the UBCD ISO
2. Burn the ISO using imgburn
3. Insert the CD that you just created into the defective computer and reboot
4. Upon reboot, continuously press F12 and boot from the ODD/CD-DVD

To burn the diagnostic software on a flashdrive, follow this guide

Note:
If you find any errors, you will need send the unit to Lenovo for service. Support phone list here.

For data backup, you can copy / paste your files on a USB flashdrive / hard drive or use this software to clone your hard drive.

Hope this helps

I have been beating my head against the wall with this one.
Just got a Gateway E-9520T for a customer. We spent the last week configuring it, installing updates, etc--but it's pretty much vanilla Windows Server 2003 R2 32-bit with exchange 2003. We haven't installed any of their customer applications yet.

During the setup and testing we did everything from leaving it on at night, to shutting down over night, rebooting, etc...

A few days ago it suddenly started taking around 30 minutes to boot and 30 minutes to shutdown.

During the startup/shutdown the RAID array is going crazy. Tons of file access.
When starting up it performs POST correctly, starts booting Windows (2003 Server Logo, with the little scroll thing at the bottom), and then the screen flashes like it's about to switch to graphical mode. But it hangs there with a blank screen for 30ish minutes.

The morning this started we hadn't installed any new drivers, updates, applications, or anything. Just fired the box up.

Gateway thought it might have been the MegaRAID card, so they sent a new one. No change. MegaRAID says their latest firmware fixes an issue that sounds like this problem. Updated the MegaRAID firmware, and it's still taking forever to boot.

What I've done:
Waited forever for the system to come up, rollback driver updates for the RAID card. (no effect)
Booted off Gateway's recovery CD (at their request) and used it to reinstall the factory default drivers. (no effec... Read more

Dear Experts, I was noticing this problem just after my warranty is expired.  My Lenovo Ideapad flex 15 shuts down exactly in every 30 minutes. Here are some clues.Shutdown even when it is in bios, it is not a driver problem. Reset the bios to default but no outcome.Did comprehensive hardware test using Lenovo Solution Center but not showing any issue. All hardware temperature is normal. There was some dust in CPU fan, causing problem to run it smoothly. Removed the dust, now it is running smoothly. But still, I am having this problem.Removed the BIOS battery for the whole night, no outcome. If I put the laptop in sleep(before 30 min) and wake up immediately, I don't see this problem. I suspect this is some hardware or bios firmware issue (i.e probably some internal timer is shutting down laptop and putting the laptop into sleep may reinitialize the timer). Any idea how to resolve this problem? As another try, I want to flash the bios firmware, but I can't find any link in lenovo support center to get bios firmware for Lenovo Ideapad Flex 15.  Any help is highly appreciated. My BIOS version: 8ACN34WW Thanks/Babu

Question: One minute freezes

My Win7x64 home was installed recently by AVAdirect (the computer builder). I haven't seen any BSOD but perhaps a few times a day it freezes for 30 or 60 seconds and then merrily goes on its way as if nothing wrong ever happened. I see lots of warnings in the system health test (attached) but I don't know which if any of these are something to be concerned about. During the freeze the mouse will still move around but the active window says "Program Name (Not Responding)" in the title bar. The non responding program is usually Firefox or Thunderbird but that is probably because those are the programs I use the most. I have seen it happen once in the game solitaire as well. The system configuration information is also attached.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer about how to track down this problem.

~Paul

Answer:One minute freezes

hi
Perform a SFC Scan (System File Check)

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow

2. Type the following command, sfc /scannow and then press ENTER:

(A message will appear stating that 'The system scan will begin'. Be patient because the scan may take some time)

3. If any files require a replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Windows 7 DVD for this process to continue

4. If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"

5. After the scan has completed, close the command prompt window, restart the computer. (TIP repeat scan 3 times)

Method 1.
Step 1. Disable the Automatic Restart to prevent the restarts on system failure.
a. When your computer starts keep pressing F8 on your keyboard till you get the Advanced Boot Options screen.
b. Now, use arrow keys, select Disable automatic restart on system failure and press Enter.

Step 2. Start your computer in safe mode and check if you still get the error message. If it boots properly may be a third party application or a service is causing the issue. We can use 50-50 approach to narrow down the root cause of the issue.

Download and burn to CD the kav rescue ISO image from http://rescuedisk.kaspersky-labs.com/rescuedisk/updatable/kav_rescue_10.iso. Do a full system scan booting from the disc you created. Remove all found infection, including that stupid annoying rootkit, and you're done!

So Windows 10 updates somehow managed to become even more frustrating.

Started up my PC this morning to watch a video. A few minutes into that video, I get a message on my screen telling me I'm about to be logged out and a shutdown has been scheduled for one minute. No postpone button, just a 'close' button. Windows didn't even have the decency to restart, just completely shutdown.

Started up my PC, got back into my video. Few minutes later, I get the same message! This time opened a Word document and mashed some letters into it, hoping that would halt the shutdown (cause I'm dumb and didn't think to try shutdown /a).
Nope! Shutdown anyway, didn't care about my unsaved work! Same thing, shutdown, no restart.

Started up again, opened Word and found no document recovery. asdfgdfg was gone forever...
How ticked off would you be if you were working on a document, went to get a drink and returned to your PC to find it shutdown and your work lost.
Is this normal behaviour for Windows 10 update? It's the first time I've had it happen.

Answer:Auto update initiating a 1 minute shutdown timer

That depends - what OS build number do you have? Use WinKey + R to run Winver and find out.

Hi! Yesterday I tried to go to my BIOS in my ACER v5-452G Windows 8.1 laptop via UEFI Settings. Then afterwards, my laptop takes 5 minutes in shutting down (the power indicator of LED though the screen clears in a minute). Same with Restart and Sleep. However, when I try to restart via settings and that UEFI, it is in my normal speed. Hope you can help me. Thank you.

Answer:5 Minute Shutdown. Long Time for Sleep. Restart too.

Ok so i appreciate any help given in advance and i will try to be as thorough as i can

I left my pc on for about 24 hours and then began to us it again. I noticed that it was running incredibly slowly, and would not let me open more than 1 folder for instance. Also when i oppened a folder occasionally it would not load the contents but display a windows logo at the top of the folder. I thought it a bit weird and thought it was probably a memory problem. I rebooted and after about 1 minute it totaly froze. Mouse pointer, keyboard all froze. I wasnt sure about the rest of the computer. But for the first minute after the desktop was displayed i could do what i wanted, if i was quick eneugh. I force turned it off and booted it up again. It still froze after 1 minute and i booted it up again. This time i hit control alt delete and watched the memory and proccessor. Both looked normal and then my pc froze and the results of the proccessor and memory continued to be displayed for about 10 seconds. This confirms that the pc was indeed freezing to. As soon as my pc froze the proccessor clocked up to 100% but memory didnt alter. Then the readings stoped 10 seconds after my pc froze. I was a bit stumped.

I booted into bios and dissabled the boot windows quickly option and tried again. No change and so i downloaded the microsoft memory test thing and put it on a bootable floppy, still convinced it was memory relate. However the diagnosis reports no errors. Again I was stumped.

My PC freezes every minute for a couple of seconds at a time.
The CPU is normally around 2% but jumps to 85% at the time of these freezes, its explore.exe that jumps up.
this happens no mater what i'm doing and even when no programs are running.
dont think its spyware (have run a few scans) and i just ran CCleaner.
i'm using XP SP2.
Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Freezes for 2/3 seconds every Minute

Sounds like you forsure have something running in the background that is causing this. Run this free program, http://www.processlibrary.com/processscan/ That should give you a good start. See what is going on and what is running in the background.

Hi dudes,
Actually I don't sure if it is hardware issue or software. I expected some troubles in games which I tried to play (Medal of Honor, Battefield: Bad Company 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops). This happened after I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate (OEM, 64-bit). Drivers are updated by Driver Genius. Maybe it happens because my PC becomes very hot (before reinstall it was hot too), and there is no way to cool it. So this how it looks: after 10 minutes PC become hot, cooler makes very loud sound and trouble begins. PC freezes every minute for 10 seconds (not freeze but FPS level near 10). Sound sounds as usual. But it is really annoying thing.

Hi!

When my computer is under relatively heavy load or I'm downloading really fast (4-9 Mbyte/sec) I experience these annoying freezes, that last for about one minute then everything is back to normal. During these freezes the little red led stays lit and i can only move the mouse maybe click something on the taskbar, but nothing else. Also sometimes these freezes last longer and after a while a blue screen appears with a page fault or some other error.

I suspect hardware failure because i already formatted the drive on which my windows is installed multiple times and it didn't solve the problem.

Could it be my power supply not being able to handle the load or the HDD is giving in?

Specs:

PSU: LC-8460BTX 450 Watt ATX Switching Power Supply
CPU: Core 2 duo E4600 @ 2.4 Ghz
GPU: Geforce 9600GT
HDD: ST3250310AS ATA

I just want to know if anybody else experienced this and eventually which component do I have to replace.

Thanks in advance!

My computer is freezing for about 5 seconds every minute or so. It started while playing BF2, but now it does it when i'm using IE7 and in Windows Explorer. Have tried running AVG, Spybot, RegClean, etc. They find and fix problems but the computer still freezes. This is driving me crazy.

Don't know where to begin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Been noticing this for a while: Whenever I'm off the computer during the day, I place it on sleep. At the end of the day, I completely shut down. Not sure if what I'm about to describe occurs shortly after waking up from sleep or shortly after boot up. Nonetheless, as I'm browsing, or in my email, all of a sudden everything freezes, can't move a thing, nothing responding. The arrow cursor turns ino a small blue circle, but he circle is not rotating. This lasts for about a minute or less, and then everything resumes as if nothing happened. What's happening?

Answer:No crash, everything just freezes for about a minute, then resumes?

Hard to say, slow hard drive from a Windows Index service, malware, browser plugin ... could be a lot of things. If it was me I would reinstall Windows ... but that might be extreme for you.

Hello, my computer is freezing up for around 10-20 secs and then unfreezes and works for also around 10-30 secs. I've checked the memory thinking it was something wrong with it, but found it was ok.

Can you please check if there is any Malware in my comp.

I had a previous post a long time ago, and we could not delete a orphan register key

1. Hijackthis cant delete the key
2. Combofix doesn't see the key or the file
3. MBAM doesn't see the run key or the file (it normally takes out this particular run key)

4. A batch file to export the run keys with regedit shows the key
5. regSrch.vbs for the strings 645fa89a & ulmoirbt.dll just show the run key
6. Bobbi Fleckman's Regsearch.exe looking for the same strings, also just shows the run key

7. A reg file merged with the registry cannot delete the run key
8. CFScript cannot delete the run key
9. CFScript cannot delete the file with either File:: or Rootkit:: (the file is just not seen)

Hi there. Any ideas what this might be please? My 10month old Dell Inspiron Vista laptop has over the last couple of months started to "hang" quite often particularly when I right-click. The wheel goes round and round ; then the screen fades and then it just freezes altogether. Yesterday it stopped even letting me do Ctrl alt delete. I am having to switch if off manually to get back to where I was - but since yesterday I can only manage to do a couple of things within literally no more than two minutes before the wheel starts whirring around and it hangs again. Anything I could try in the couple of minutes grace I have before it dies on me or any diagnosis please before I take to the repair shop?

Answer:laptop hangs and freezes after a minute

try running in safe mode and see if it improves enough to run any programs

Dear computer experts,

My computer developed a freezing problem. Basically, no matter what I'm doing, everything freezes for 5-10 seconds every minute or so.

Sound stops, video stops, but everything resumes as normal after the freeze.

The frequency and duration is really variable. Yesterday (after my computer was turned on for a long time) there was no problem with freezing. But after I restarted my computer, the freezing returned.

I was a victim of spyware for a long time. I finally got rid of AutoRun.exe worm and also a XP-23923424.exe (bunch of numbers) with the help of AVAST antivirus. I have run repeated boot scans and no more malware has been detected.

I ran the Windows Hard-disk error check, there are no errors with my hard drive.

Computer is almost 3 years old.
Core 2 Duo E6700 (2.66GHZ)
1 ghz DDR3
Radeon 2900xt
Power supply is 600W I think.

Please help me. Any comment/feedback is appreciated. I will check constantly to see if any extra info is needed to resolve this.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

Answer:Computer freezes for 5-10 seconds every minute [XP SP3]

Hello Brian

Here are a couple of suggestions

1. Check in msconfig and disable everything not needed to start at every boot up.
Start/Run and type in
msconfig
OK

Startup Tab
Keep the page open then go to the link below. It will tell you what all the entries are and whether you can disable them or not. It will also identify any malware. Disable everything which is not needed to run at start up

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

Read the Key at top of page. Use the Search box to check all your entries

When you reboot you will get a message saying you have started in "Selective Startup" Click "Don`t show this message again" then OK

2. Even though you have run malware scans, many of them can hide and you will need the help of our Virus Removal Forum to clean them out.

Please read ?Virus/Trojan/Spyware Removal Help ? and follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information in the Virus Help Forum
If you cannot complete any step, just miss it out and do what you can, but be sure to include this information in your post.
Please ensure that you create a new thread in the Virus Help Forum; not back here in this one.

Please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

XP Pro MCE 2005 SP2.

Started last weekend, the whole system regardless of what I am doing (game, desktop, e-mail whatever) will just freeze and only half load windows.
If I am for example on a website, I won't be able to click links as Firefox becomes unresponsive, if I click on a program in taskbar it will load it's window with no contents.

It is not graphics related as I just installed lastest drivers and it still does it and even did it in between installation when no driver was installed!

I am willing to try anything that may fix it and will keep my files. I would ghost an image of drive C just I don't have a spare 60gb storage anywhere...

Also, whilst crashed, the num lock light will EITHER respond or not respond, also after the little freeze up it may or may not do what I was pressing whilst it was crashed all at once.
Could a repair of the OS be needed?

Thanks
Jack

Answer:Solved: XP Pro just freezes every minute or so for up to 20 seconds

Check task manager to see if svchost keeps spiking

It sounds like there is a problem with automatic updates.

Go to control panel / security center and disable automatic updates
Restart and see if that solves the problem.

If not, try disabling the automatic updater for your antivirus.

If you identify the culprit, manually go and get the updates. If none are available keep automatic updates off and keep trying daily. Once you get some updates downloaded and installed you can reenable automatic updates and then restart the computer and it should fix the problem.
It has been fairly common recently.

It turns out the guy was a swindler so we can't get any answers from him about what the computer was used for before. The computer has 10gb HDD, 192MB of RAM, and is a PIII 733mhz. It is running Windows XP SP2 (I think PRO). The original CDROM drive was switched for a DVD-RW. Every time he boots up, the PC freezes. When I tested it out, it sometimes took as little as 30 seconds after windows finished booting up to freeze up. It would not respond at all. The 6645-P1G is one of the smallest desktop computers I have ever seen. I opened it up and everything is packed quite tightly inside. Is it possible it is overheating? Any suggestions as to why this would be happening would be appreciated. The problem is, I can't imagine that IBM made this computer so unstable that it freezes every bootup. So it has to be something that was added. I don't know what OS it originally came with, but the only other thing I can think of is the DVD-RW drive or added RAM. Any help with this situation would be appreciated as the owner can not use the computer at all at present.

Been having this problem since Wednesday and cannot figure it out, any help would be greatly appreciated as I go back to work this Wednesday and it becomes impossible to do.
Backstory.
I left my computer on overnight on Tuesday, there was a windows update and when i woke up my computer had already restarted. When i went to use it every usb hardware connected to my computer was not working, mouse, keyboard, headset, wifi dongle etc. So I pressed the restart button. Upon restarting it hung on the windows logo for 10 minutes with no sign of moving so i held the power button until it turned off. Turned it back on, hung on windows logo for 5 minutes but then turned on. Everything was slow but working apart from my internet.
What happens.
For about 10 seconds every minute or so (it is a repeated pattern) my internet will freeze causing freezes in games, my work to close and general annoyance. I ran a ping google.co.uk -t string in CMD and this is what happens. http://imgur.com/4ZkHfsB
(sorry to do this, but wont let me post urls and its pretty important to get help with)
What i've tried
I've used the ipconfig /release /renew /flushdns options with no success. I checked to see if the problem was to do with router but only my computer is having the problem.
Odd thing
What i've noticed is if i'm in a skype call the internet is perfect, not a single freeze but as soon as the skype call ends it goes back to the above.
This is really frustrating and the only thing i can think of is... Read more

Symptoms: the most obvious is the mouse and keyboard freezes (but still accepts entries into the buffer) for roughly 10 seconds at a time, maybe twice per minute. It takes a good 5 minutes just to power up, but at least it's faster since I ran autoruns and unclicked unneeded items. Usesd to be more like 10 minutes from power on to actually being able to talk to my computer! Really a drag. It's a Dell XPS M140 laptop, w/ 2GB memory and XPhome SP3, 80GB HDD with 28GBB still free. On attempt to defrag, the computer looks and says I don't need to, so I haven't actually defrag'd it. It recently had a bad DNSchanger Trojan infection, solved on BC in the malware forum. What I've done...After running OTC and MBA and Kaspersky and McAfee VSE to get the trojan DNS changers (4 entries) off my machine, guided by Kahdah at the malware forum of BC, it seems to be clean. I've rerun MBA a few times since that topic was closed, and the scans still are clean. I can once again go to Windows Updates, MalwareBytes, and other sites which the DNS changer had forbidden while infected. So, I've...- gotten the latest updates installed from Windows Update- installed the latest version and DAT of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i and run it- run autoruns and unchecked things not necessary.- run CCleaner and backup'd registry and cleaned up registry errors, and cleaned 140Meg of temp files- accessed systems/accessories defrag but it said I didn't need to defrag ... Answer:mouse, keyboard freezes ~twice per minute

Hi ricknorth -You can still run defrag if you like (just to be sure) - It never hurts (how much is fragmented, it will be shown) -I would run a Check Disk scan now, to also clean up any minor problems remaining - You just copy and paste the code below into Run Box, close all open programs including internet, and the computer will reboot 30 seconds after you click OK -CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30Please let the check/repair program run, it will take 30 to 45 mins on average - You can also use TFC to clean up Temp Files if needed-Download TFC to your desktop.Close any open windows.Double click the TFC icon to run the programTFC will close all open programs itself in order to run,Click the Start button to begin the process.Allow TFC to run uninterrupted. The program should not take long to finish it's jobOnce its finished it should automatically reboot your machine,if it doesn't, manually reboot to ensure a complete cleanThank You -

My laptop computer freezes exactly every minute during approximately 5 seconds (screen, mouse, etc). This happens all the time and it is independant of the running applications.... I noticed it with Skype because I loose communication during the 5 second period every minute however it happens with any other application aswell. I tried running an AV but nothing is found.... Is anybody familiar with this issue?

Answer:Computer freezes every minute during 5 seconds

You say computer freezes every minute during 5 seconds.  Is that freezes for 5 seconds every minute?  Does it automatically unfreeze or do you have to reboot?  What version of Windows are you running? Did this just start and have you installed new program?

Answer:Need new motherboard for my Satellite L650-1k2

>I can not find an exactly same one online, but the seller told me that as long as the sps no. is same that it will fit in my laptop.

I cannot confirm this but fact is that there are different L650 models on the market which would be equipped with different motherboards? but the layout should be the same?
As far as I know the compatible motherboard with an Intel HM55 chipset for L650-1k2 has a part number: V000218130
It looks like very similar to v000218030?

Regarding the ATI GPU.
Not quite sure about that? you should ask your retailer for that? but fact is that ATI GPU is external so would be removable?

Have had problems over several weeks with my laptop not booting up. See: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=65765

Worked fine for a week or so until last night. Booted up ok, but gadgets did not appear nor did Yahoo Messenger which starts automatically.
I couldn't click on any items on the desktop or the bar across the bottom of the screen. Shut down and was asked if I wanted to force shut down of applications which were still running. I said yes.

Laptop shut down and then when I restarted it came up with the Toshiba splash screen and the starting Windows and the Windows logo but then got the message that Windows failed to start and did I want to start normally or repair. I ran repair, but all aI get after Windows is loading files is the cursor on a black screen.

I've tried switching off and then I get the message when starting back up to say that WIndows did not start sucessfully and do I want to repair or start normally?

If I click on repair it comes up saying Windows is loading files and then I just get the cursor on a black screen. The hard disk light is not lit and nothing seems to happen (I used to get a new window appear).

I've tried pressing F8 at start up and I select the option to Repair Windows, but this just says starting Windows and then I get the cursor on the black screen as above. Sounds like HDD is faulty.
You can test the HDD using freeware tool like Drive Fitness Test or similar? but drive fitness test would help you to create an bootable disk which would test the HDD.

I think the HDD should be replaced if errors would be detected? according to the info from the other thread, you have created a recover disk? so it should not be a big problem to reinstall the OS once again after the HDD has been replaced.

Hello everybody!

I have a big problem!
I bought myself a Satellite L650-1k5 2 weeks ago. I have Windows 7 Professional x64 installed on it.
The problem is that somehow it restarts itself. When starting it requests a bootable disc of windows to restore the system.I tried,it does not, shows some mistake.

Than I tried reinstalling Windows several times, even installed the x86 version of Home Premium, same problem.
Please help!

Answer:Re: Somehow my Satellite L650-1K5 restarts itself

Wait a moment.

Have you created recovery DVD?
Can you install original Win7 using this disc?
Can you use preinstalled recovery image?

Success?
If not, try new good working RAM modules.
If RAM doesn’t help, the notebook developed serious hardware problem… I guess that in such case only service engineer could help you

Satellite L650 frozen at boot up. despite mc fee, a virus has stopped boot up. Stops at flashing cursor top left. can boot from recovery cd. BUT restore / recovery wont complete to any selected restore point though it goes through all the motions and then says at end, cant complete with error.

No toshiba hdd recovery option (ie to factory settings) is available in recovery console, or with recovery disk.
D Drive has all the recovery data ok as I can move aroud from c> prompt in dos to alldrives/ areas. Dont have own burned recovery disks. This happened quick .

NOW installed win 7 (64bit) in frustration from 'a' disk, works but all installed s/wareand toshiba drivers now useless . Bottom line, is there a patch to install or a work around that will allow access to reset to the factory settings with the data stored on disk/drive D. Normal methods of starting this process are not available

Answer:Can't restore HDD on my Satellite L650-18M

Can you please tell us which error was shown at the end of recovery installation?

Anyway, now after OS installation with non-Toshiba disc there is no way to start HDD recovery installation again and recovery image can be installed with Toshiba recovery DVD only.

> NOW installed win 7 (64bit) in frustration from 'a' disk, works but all installed s/wareand toshiba drivers now useless
To be honest your posting is a little bit confusing and I don?t understand what you want to say with this sentence. If you have installed clean OS you must install all drivers and Toshiba stuff additionally. All of them are available on Toshiba download page.

If you have more questions please be clear and ask one by one so it will be easier to give answer to each of them.

I have the newest BIOS, so that not the problem, and changing power management settings doesn't help either

Anyone have any ideas or is it just sending the computer back for repairs? The damn thing is only 5 month old :(

Answer:Satellite L650 - Fan constantly at 90%

Hi mbfab,

Are you using the preinstalled Windows from Toshiba or did you install your own version?
Have you updates any drivers?

Normally you can change the fan activity in Windows power management if you change the cooling method from Maximum Performance to Battery Optimized.
I have tested it and I can notice a difference.

Hello again guys,

Unfortunately, after my sucess with my laptop the other day, after about half an hour, it started being really slow again, then later on in the evening, it was pretty close to unusable.

Now, it's just that. The Toshiba 'splash screen' displays, followed by a cursor that blinks in the top left of the screen, then it just goes back to a black screen and eventually restarts itself. I've had it for 10 months, the TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor showed the Hard Drive status as 'good' when it was working, but now, it's absolutely useless.

My next step will be to try and install Windows 7 from a CD and do a clean install, if that doesn't work, then a friend has suggested resetting the CMOS, and several other hardware related things.

Do any of you have any other tips I could try?
Do you think doing a clean install from a disk would solve the problem?
I would be really grateful for any tips/advice you may have.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L650-1MC won't turn on

> The Toshiba 'splash screen' displays, followed by a cursor that blinks in the top left of the screen, then it just goes back to a black screen and eventually restarts itself.

In most cases the blinking cursor appears because the notebook cannot find a bootable device or WinOS is damage.

So check if you can install the Win 7 again? if the Win 7 setup would not see the HDD, then this means that your HDD is affected and needs to be replaced.

In my opinion the CMOS battery is not the reason for this issue so try Win 7 installation?

Do other FN buttons work properly?
As far as I know you need to install VAP and Flash Card Support Utility to get the FN buttons to work!
Please check this!

Additionally the WLan driver has to be installed in order to get the FN +F8 key combination.
Usually this is everything what you need?

Hi
Sorry bit of a newbie here,
I have looked around and can seem to find the answer....
I have a Satellite L650 running windows 7 64 bit. until about a week around the HDMI socket worked fine. I dont think I have installed anything that would effect it but now its stopped working. The TV picks up the fact a cable is plugged in but not signal. the Intel software says it does support duel screen. The FN + F5 has stopped working as well as the FN +F8 ( not sure if this is connected) other FN buttons seem to work OK. I have looked for the software for the Hotkeys to re-install. but dont seem to be able to find it for the windows 7 64 bit.

Any help comments or points welcome.

Thanks in advance.

dose the laptop have 2 slats for ram upgrade or more?

and one more thing is that i cant find any data on that module in this site
when i try to auto detect the module from your software in my laptop it cant find it

Hi

You can update the RAM up to 8GB but as far as I know the FSB (front side bus) is limited to 1066Mhz

Even if you would use the 1333Mhz modules, the FSB would clock down the speed to the 1066Mhz? so its not worth to use 1333Mhz because this seed would not be used.

Answer:Satellite L650 turns off

Solution?
Who knows how do you use your notebook? For me it sounds like overheating.
Be sure the cooling fans are free and not blocked. Your notebook must be cooled down properly.

It is also possible that cooling fans are full of dust and cooling grill can be blocked for air circulation. In this case your notebook must be disassembled and cleaned up properly.

Make a short test: start your notebook and enter BIOS settings. Leave it for a while and check if it goes off again.

hello,

If i go to the systeminformationscreen on my laptop (windows 7 64 bit) it shows that the installed RAM is 4,0 GB , but only 2,99 RAM is usable. I read something in the internet that you can change this in the BIOS (memory remapping) but i cant find this in my BIOS.
what should i do?

Answer:Satellite L650-13M - only 2,99 of 4 GB RAM availible?

Hello

Do the BIOS recognize the whole 4GB memory? If yes everything seems to be ok with your notebook.

The memory remapping function that you mean is not available on notebooks. I assume the missing 1GB memory are reserved for graphic card and other devices they need memory and there is no option that you can change.

Generally speaking you can say everything will be controlled automatically and don?t worry about this!

I don't mind having to cut the case up a little in order to use usb ports etc. I just want to have a working laptop.

Answer:Which motherboard will fit Satellite L650-12Q?

>... what other mobo's would fit in the case.
Maybe it sounds stupid now but your question confuses me a bit. Notebooks are mobile units with specific design so you must know that you will not find 10 different mobos that you can use on this certain model. You must use mobo designed for Satellite L650.

If you want to save money you must try to find used or refurbished mobo. Other option is to buy similar model on eBay with damaged LCD and get it cheaper.
Do you understand what I mean?

Hello to everybody!

I have spent two weeks, maybe more, in finding a good notebook for my purpose and then decided for the SATELLITE PRO L650-15P, the first time I use Toshiba. I have not bought it yet, since I would like to be sure about all components.

Here my questions:
Where can I get the driver for the graphic card ATI Radeon HD5650 ?
If you find any, does it support Win 7 64-Bit and 32- Bit and any Linux-derivate, and which one?
Does this driver support - as indicated by AMD - OpenGL 3.2 ?

-> It is - as far as I see - not availabe in the Toshiba Download pages.
-> The original AMD driver cannot be used for Toshiba notebooks.

Please, if you know definitely something about it, let me know. I am quite frustrated at the moment. Thanks a lot. A.S.

Answer:Satellite Pro L650-15P - Where to get drivers?

Hello

Generally speaking all drivers and tools can be downloaded on official Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

As you can see if you search for Satellite Pro L650 downloads, everything what you need is available for Windows 7 32bit and Windows 7 64bit so both systems are supported.

On Toshiba notebooks there is no official support for Linux. The computers are designed for Windows only.

Hi there,

I have a few questions on the Toshiba Satellite Pro L650-167 i am about to buy. This is the model with an i5 430m, 4gb drr3 and the ati 5650.

1) Will the laptop motherboard support upgrading to an i7m processor like the the 620m for example? I can find these on ebay for good prices. Also can you actually open up the L series laptops to replace cpu's? You can in dell's for instance. I know this will void my warranty. Finally all the i series cpu's are all 35w so there should not be power issues?

2) Can you easily swap out the hard-drive in the L series or is it not accessible?

Thanks alot!

Answer:Questions on Satellite Pro L650-167

Here is my opinion for you:

1
CPU upgrade is not supported and I don?t think anybody here will be able to offer some precise info about that. Every laptop can be opened and disassembled so there should not be problem but if this is reasonable decision is other question. If you need notebook with more power than pay a little bit more money and buy more powerful notebook but don?t change anything and have it with full warranty time.
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

2
Generally speaking design on most Toshiba notebooks is the same and access to HDD is not complicated. All you must do is to remove HDD cover placed at the bottom. Then you can remove original HDD and eventually upgrade it with new one.

Hello there :-)

I have a few questions regarding my new L650.

I've never had Toshiba notebook before so excuse me if some of these "quirks" are actually just normal on this notebook. I'd really like to hear opinions from other L650 users.

1)
First of all, the moment i turned it on I saw thin gradient (1-2 millimetres) along right edge of the screen that goes from bottom to top. Maybe "gradient" is not the right word, but it seems like the last two or three pixels are kind of fading or loosing brightness/sharpness towards the edge along the whole right bezel. It's not really that visible, looks like colours are a bit desaturated there or brightness is lacking a bit. It can be seen everywhere (bios or any colour in Windows, but better in brighter background).
The left side (or any other) seems ok, just this along right edge is somewhat suspicious. Can someone compare? I'm not sure if this is something to worry about or it's just supposed to be like that.

2)
The other thing I've noticed is heating of the CPU (Intel i3 330M) and GPU (ATi Mobility Radeon 5650). It's pretty hot here at the moment (I'd say temperature is around 28 degrees Celsius where notebook is being used). It's seated on the hard surface (table) and nothing is blocking vents.
However, when "idle" (web surfing & usual light stuff), average CPU temp hovers around 58? C. It usually goes from 45 to 62 in few minutes after booting and then I can hear and see (Toshiba... Read more

Answer:Satellite L650-11R - Few questions about it

2.)Temps of around 70 +/- for a CPU are ok. I suppose 75 would just be cause for concern. Mine usually sits around 60/70 on full load. As do desktop CPUs nothing to worry about really.

I bought Toshiba l650-11r one month ago and I have one problem that became really anoying.

When I press power button (to put computer in sleep status) and close the lid, computer doesn't respond when I try to turn it on again.
I have to unplug it and then press the power button.
When i press power button it starts windows from beginning and I lose unsaved files and informations.

I have:
Windows 7
4 GB Ram
Intel Core i3
ATI Radeon HD 5650
Bios version 1.20

I've also tried [THIS|http://www.fixya.com/support/t586381-toshiba_laptop_wake_up_from_stand_or] (1. reply) , but it didn't work.

Is there any other way to fix this bug/problem or do i have to update bios, which i don't want to update because I read on the forum and lots of people have problems with their computer afterwards.

Thanks

Usually the power button shuts down the notebook.
In order to set the notebook to stand by or hibernation mode, you should click on Start button and should choose either standby or hibernation mode.

However, if there is a new BIOS version, then you should update the BIOS.
Here you can find a instruction how to do this safely.

I would also recommend to update the graphic card driver.

Hi,

Had my laptop for a few years and my hard disk just died. Bought a new hard drive and all is well...except I never created a recovery DVD (I know, stupid, wont make the same mistake again).

The laptop came with a recovery disk that installs Win XP, but i cant seem to install Win 7 and all the standard Toshiba software and drivers, it just doesn't seem to work. I have tried downloading all the drivers on a seperate PC, but I have no idea of an install order, or what I really should be installing if I'm honest.

Original recovery disc for your machine you can order on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Using original recovery disc OS installation will be very simply. You don't need to install all drivers, tools and utilities. Preinstalled Windows version will be activated and you can use it anytime you want and so often you want.

Please check this option.

If you make decision to install own OS version and need some assistance please let us know.

Hello

I ordered a laptop of a online website, it was stated I believe as brand new, but I've seen some videos on youtube when they pull of a screen cover I didnt have that, all I had was a plastic wrapper, also battery and everything was in the laptop and cables were not in a wrap, and the screen had like very faint smudge marks on it like it has been wiped, just wondering if this is normal?

Thank you also my laptop is L650-1CJ

Answer:Satellite Pro L650-1CJ - Is it really brand new?

Hi,

Maybe it is refurbished?
Is there a non-factory sticker on the Base?

Enter your Serial Number on the Toshiba Website (link: http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/SUPPORT_PORTAL/ )

It should have a 12 month warranty.

Yo, after a fatal HD crash i need a backup from Toshiba. The problem is... the serial is rubbed from the bottom - so i got no idea what the number is...

Its the Satellite L650-1N8. So if anyone have a idea what can i do... i would be happy. ;)

Another prob - when i tryd to install Win7 x64 the Winkey is "invalid".. so i have no chance to install the OS without to by a new one.

greets

Answer:Which serialnumber has my Satellite L650-1N8?

There are some Toshiba specific tolls that can inform you about serial number from your machine.
Install own Win7 and install most of drivers, tools and utilities. When you install Toshiba value added package one tool included n this package is Toshiba PC diagnostic tool.
When you start it check ?Basic information? and there you will find serial number. Using this number you can order original recovery disc on - https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

You are right about windows key. You have windows key that belongs to the original recovery image and cannot be used for activation if you try to install own OS version.

Hi,

I am using windows 7 on a Toshiba.

Can I use the Toshiba recovery media creator to change the system from an accidently installed - 32 bit system to a 64 bit system.

What step would I need to take to make sure this is successful?
Thank you,
Brent

Answer:Re: Satellite L650/0ed: Switching from 32 bit to 64 bit

Is your notebook delivered with one OS version only?
Notebook specification is not known to me but if you got this notebook with one version only there is no way to switch between 32 and 64 bit OS.
You can install 64 bit but on your own using Microsoft installation disc.

Check also Toshiba AU support site and be sure this notebook model is supported for 64bit Win7.

I have a toshiba L650Q laptop. Its been working fine since 1.5years now..
Just a couple of days back I closed the laptop ie closed the screen ( typically it puts the same in sleep mode).

After about 10 min when I tried to open & start up the laptop simply does not startup :(
I can see the battery & power adapter LED glow, but when I press the start button, it simply does not start..
there is momentary glow of the power on button, i hear the fan trying to start up & then it dies down in abt 2 seconds & laptop simply does not start up..

I tried the below troubleshooting steps but no success

1) I removed the battery & tried starting using the adapter, it dint start up
2) I put the battery out for like 1 hour & then tried again, it dint start up

Please advise the troubleshooting steps or any pointers as what could the problem be & how can i resolve it..

Answer:Satellite L650-12Q does not start up

Try this:

- Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor.
- Press power button 30sec long
- Connect battery and AC adaptor to the notebook
- Try to power up the unit.

If this fails, check the memory modules.
Remove one module and try to boot the notebook using one module. Run the test for each slot and module.

I own a [Toshiba Satellite L650-14E|http://www.toshiba.rs/satellite-l650-14e-455-c491-view.htm] laptop that is running 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate.? It's about one-year-old.

I'm not an avid game player, but I did play some relatively demanding games on it, including the last Prince of Persia and Fallout. It worked with no problems, but it's been about half a year sice I played anything.

Most of the time the laptop is connected via HDMI to my 22'' monitor (1680x1050). I'm mentioning this because In the last couple of months I've experienced overheating accompanied by forced shutdowns. It happened on two ocassions. One time while playing a regular Xvid and doing some intensive CPU process in the background and last night while playing a 720p mkv video with GPU hardware acceleration.

In the second case the laptop was even raised of my desk with the help of a book so that it has enough space to blow off the hot air. It's been like this since the first overheating incident.

Now, I doubt this is normal behavior. Can anyone share similar experiences and what they did? Should I use the warranty to have it looked at? I have a five-year no-matter-what warranty, but I'm not sure how they handle this sort of issues. What do you guys think/suggest?

Answer:Satellite L650 - overheating

Hi

High internal temperature is a common notebook issue? The point is that many devices (CPU, GPU, HDD, cooling modules, etc?) are placed on a small area and all these devices produce a lot of heat dissipation.
Therefore it?s very important that the cooling fans and cooling modules would work properly.

I noticed a similar issue on my notebook after some time of usage. The temperature increased to t higher level which and this affected the notebook functionality.
I read in different forums that this could be caused by dirty fans and cooling grilles.

I had to clean the fans and cooling grilles using a compressed air spray. This helped to get rid of dust and debris which prevent the fresh air from circulation.
So I removed dust and this helped.

Now I repeat this from time to time if its necessary.

Hello,

I bought the above mentioned laptop two months ago and while using it a few days ago, it suddenly went slow and crashed with a blue screen error. It said it was going to restart and when it did, it couldn't find the hard drive. I've been into the BIOS and it's not listed there, I've tried it in another laptop and it didn't work, I've tried placing it in a caddy and that didn't work and I've tried a couple of bootable CDs (including Ubuntu Live) and none of them could see the HDD. Are there any alternative methods I could use to try and fix it?

As it's still relatively new and under warranty, what would the process be on sending it back to Toshiba and how thorough are their checks on the drive? I don't know how confident I am of a stranger possibly rooting through the details on my hard drive from things I've heard in the past!

Thanks.

Answer:New Satellite L650-108 HDD Died

>Are there any alternative methods I could use to try and fix it?

For me its very clear issue and don?t think you need other methods to check the HDD.
If the HDD is not listed in BIOS then this means that the HDD is dead and needs to be replaced.

The notebook is under warranty so get in contact with Toshiba ASP (authorized service provider) in your country to get new HDD.

I bought the Laptop back in February 2011 and the noise of the fan got worse over time now. I have read many threads in this forum and elsewhere regarding this problem and I guess that my issues are basically the same.

Now that I have read some posts stating that the new BIOS released in september apparantly fixed the issue, I did a BIOS update myself (Version 2.3) only to encounter the same Problem again.

The fan stops as soon as the temperature is below a certain threshold, in my case according to CoreTemp this seems to be at around 50-55?C. At this moment the fan turns itself off, which is also confirmed by the Health Monitor showing 0% fan speed.
This leads to the CPU temperature rising until the fan kicks in at about 55-60% fanspeed.
This process repeats itself every 15-20 seconds and is very annoying.

It gets worse though if I actually start doing something like opening an application, starting the web browser - nothing serious really, I won't even start complaining about the noise while gaming/watching movies.
The Fan speed will be at 70-75% as soon as the CPU gets some work to do.
The resulting noise is unacceptable for about 20-30 Seconds.

The noise is a major factor for me. In University I can't use it anymore as my fellow students are too distracted by its noise. At work my colleagues started to complain about it as well.
As I only use my Laptop while being out of my own office/home it is basically useless to me by now.

Has anyone else stil... Read more

Answer:Satellite L650 1NC - fan noise

Hi

The cooling module performance depends on the internal temperature.
If the temperature arise to a higher level, the fan needs to rotate faster in order to prevent the hardware from overheating? this is an usual behavior.

But you can try to change some settings in Win 7 power management.
This will decrease the CPU performance and the heat dissipation and this should slow down the fan activity too.

Here is instruction how to modify the Win 7 power management.

I have just purchased an L650 wit h 4GB ram, with the installation I'm confused about which OS I should choose 32bit or 64 bit ? What's the difference - all I want to do is to get the new machine up and running. Thanks

Answer:Satellite L650 - What OS I should choose?

Hi roblora,

I would recommend choosing the 64bit version of Windows 7 because it supports the full 4GB RAM and all 32bit operating systems support only up to 3GB RAM.

So if you don?t have some older applications they require 32bit, choose 64bit version and be happy with it! :)

Hello guys

I have a Toshiba Satellite L650-1MC with 4Gb DDR3 PC3-10600 (2x 2Gb modules) and an i5 480M CPU. Today I got a 4Gb DDR3 PC3-8500 module to upgrade the RAM to 6Gb. I put this new module in and it wasn't recognised, maybe because it was PC3-*8500* not *10600* like the original other two modules.

However, when I tried to place one of the original 2Gb DDR3 PC3 10600 modules back in again, it wasn't recognised either! I then left the second slot empty, with nothing in it, and it recognised the 1 2Gb module in it. Do you reckon the PC3-8500 module has 'corrupted' the memory slot, or has it not been placed in correctly, as it seems to be slotted in fine; it won't move about.

I would really appreciate your help

Tom

Answer:RAM is not recognised on Satellite L650-1MC

Hello Tom

There must be some compatibility problem. Forum is full of similar reports. You should use compatible and tested modules only.
I strongly recommend you to use Kingston modules.
The compatible RAMs for your notebook model you can find on http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/lines.asp?root=uk&LinkBack=http://www.kingston.com/ukroot&Manufacturer=tos&search_type=

If you need more help you are welcome.

My new L650-10G, running Windows 7 64bit, has disappointing sound. I can live with that but what is a problem is that the peak output is poor. In other words at peak volume it's not loud enough. This is surely fixable, as I'm sure the speakers can output at a higher level even though they aren't very good.

I've got the latest sound drivers. Any suggestions - apart from using external speakers?
Thanks.
Andy

Answer:Sound is too low on Satellite L650-10G

If the speakers are not Harmon Kardon, then the sound output is not really designed for loud multimedia playback. I think its a safer idea to use external speakers instead, rather than risk hurting the internal speakers.

Hi,
I'm owner of Toshiba Satellite L650-1KU, PSK1LE laptop for roughly 5 years.
I've decided to upgrade its RAM, because it became slower and slower each year when using browsers.

I've bought Kingston 4GB 1600MHz 1.5V DDR3 CL11 SODIMM KCP316SS8/4 RAM .
Physically it should be compatible with laptop, because originally used RAMs were 2+1GB :
1) 2GB DDR3 PC-8500 1066MHz MT16JSF25664HZ-1G1F1
2) 1GB DDR3 P000527760

in other words, everything, except maximum operating frequency, matches.
After I installed new RAM into slot, my laptop continue to work until "Windows starting..." screen. This text is visible for 0.5-1 second, and then blue screen appears.

I've updated BIOS and chipset driver to the latest version, available at toshiba driver download section. Same result;
Could you advice, how to launch this RAM with my laptop?

P.S.> I suspect, that if I could manually set RAM frequency in BIOS, this could solve the issue, however insydeH2O BIOS doesn't have such feature... - RAM field is inactive =( (except specific BIOS version, mentioned here - link).

Answer:windows xp problem.. system shutdown warning. 1 minute and computer restarts

I had a similar problem a while ago....you may have tried cleaning with AVG/ADAWARE/SPYBOT, it worked for me.

Go Start run then type shutdown -a when the 1 min warning comes, try looking in the event logs to see what is going on, the other place i have come accross this is when windows has expired/Hacked etc

So, I have 3 problems and don't know how to fix them and I would really appreciate some help.

1. When I play lol, it keeps minimizing every minute and I have to click back on lol icon to return to the game. It's really annoying.

2.Internet is randomly shutting down every now and then.

3. When I'm writing a sentence my prompt disappears and I have to click back in the box so I can continue with my writing.

Oh, and I bought my computer yesterday so I just downloaded lol and google chrome and doubt that viruses are causing any of these problems.

My computer constantly freezes. When I am running games (like Starcraft II) it will freeze for 30-40 seconds sometimes which is kind of a pain. I thought it may be an unstable overclock so i reset to defaults with no difference at all. I thought it may be a graphics card issue so I uninstalled the drivers and installed the latest ones from the site. I did the same thing with chipset drivers, LAN drivers, and any other driver I could think of. I ran a mem test for a few hours and had no reported errors.

Finally I clocked it back up a bit (to 3.2ghz instead of 4.0ghz) and ran OCCT to check for stability (ran prime95 for an hour or two and it seemed fine but I wanted a second opinion) and saw that it had a PSU test and decided to do that. After running it for 20 minutes or so I noticed a weird pattern in voltage/cpu usage. Anyone have any idea what this could mean? I have posted pictures of the weird issue below.

It won't let me post links or images as I have < 5 posts. Remove the spaces from the links below to view.

Hey there.

This doesn't happen every time I open a new tab, but on certain occasions. It seems really random, so I'm not sure if there's a specific trigger for it, but when I click on a link that opens in another tab, it'll lock the whole laptop for about a minute and then beep two or three times after that minute and start working again. Sometimes it happens even when it's just loading a website by typing it in via the search bar.

Is there any reason for this happening? I'm pretty sure I have the latest version of Chrome as I've checked, and I've also cleaned my cache, history etc.

If anyone's got any advice, that'd be great!

Answer:Chrome freezes for a minute when loading a site in new tab

Hello Microserfs,

Do you have many addons installed? You can check them by copying " chrome://extensions/ " in a new tab.

And when you go to the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete -> Start Task Manager) and right-click Chrome and select Go to process, how much Memory (fourth column) is it using?

Also, when you leave a browser like Chrome and FireFox running for a long time, it will become very slow and it will do as you described, so do you leave Chrome running for a long time? If so, restart it once in a while to speed it up.

Good luck and keep us posted,
Nommy
