Satellite L500: Warning : Problem with Cooling system message

Question: Satellite L500: Warning : Problem with Cooling system message

Dear Toshiba,

Perhaps some can explain for me how this happens.

We have 2 x L500 laptops, One was purchased and activated on a day July 2010 ( Machine1 )
The other was purchased 1 day later from the same store and activated on the same day - 1 day later ( machine 2)

Yesterday, machine 1 responded with the Warning message, there is a problem with the cooling system - please shut down the machine and return it for service.

Today machine 2 responded with the exact same message, just after being switched on after 4 hours unusual situation you say or is it some sort of built in : service generating feature ???
I am not convinced it's a fluke and there was nothing wrong with either machine that I could see.

Anyway a reboot of each machine fixed the problem, see how long it takes to return.
As you guessed it , both machines are out of warranty by a few months now.

If any of you have a similar problem, would be glad to hear from you.

Preferred Solution: Satellite L500: Warning : Problem with Cooling system message

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500: Warning : Problem with Cooling system message

A friend of mine has got the Satellite L500. As far as I know the notebook runs pretty well.

I?m not sure if this message has been created due to a software issue but the notebook should shuts down automatically if the cooling modules would not work properly and if the temperature would goes up to a higher level?

So I recommend watching the temp level for the next time and of course you could get in contact with an Toshiba ASP in your country if would notice higher temp or some hardware issue with the cooling module?

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite L500-19Z and I keep getting the "Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service" message.

The cooling system is apparently working fine: PC health monitor says the fan is working, and using Speedfan I can see that the temperature is kept below about 53 degrees celsisus. I think I can hear the fan working and the openings at the side and bottom of the laptop are entirely clear.

I live in a cold area and don't use the computer for any processing-intensive activities, so there wouldn't be a reason for the computer to get hot anyway, as far as I know.

Please help.

Answer:Cooling System warning on Satellite L500-19Z

I think I've fixed it. I disabled all Toshiba startup programs and performed a disk check on the main harddisk. Now the error message is gone and the cooling system is actually working slightly better, keeping everything below 40 degrees celsius.

Any idea what might have happened or if it will reappear?

My laptop recenly started giving the error "Warning: a problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately and return it for service" - Yes the fan had stopped working and the touchpad area was hot.

So i take it to the service guy ( toshiba) and he says need to reply Fan, MB, HDD. Is this possible? - i have extended warrenty, but is't this a lot ? not to mention it takes a month to get the stuff down.

He also mentioned i could use the machine with a cooling pad till then if i wish to do so.

Any feed back ?

Answer:Satellite A660 - message: Warning: a problem with the cooling system

>Yes the fan had stopped working and the touchpad area was hot.

In such case there is really an hardware problem.
But I?m wondering why the HDD and the motherboard needs to be replaced?
Possibly only the cooling module has started to malfunction? bit of course? this is just an speculation?
If the service technician has checked the hardware, then they should know what parts are not OK?.
So don?t think you have other choice?.

But the warranty is valid? so everything is free of charge?

I bought in March a Satellite L670D which pops up an alert:
"Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediatly and return for service"

However, sounds like a false positive because the Toshiba health monitor does not show something wrong with temperature (cpu 36-50 ?C). I added SpeedFan too. I saw Fan running in Toshiba tool but not in Speed fan (no info) and I can see the ventilation running physically out of the left side of the case (warm air).

Fan makes actually sounds, coming up and down quit normally. Sometime a sound of " laminae genle frictions" can be heard. No crashes, no forced shutdown.

What shold I do?

Thank You

Answer:Satellite L670D - Cooling system warning message

What Toshiba tool shows you this error message and do you use the preinstalled Windows 7 version?
Does this happen in Eco mode, balanced or high performance power plan?

It would be great if you could upload a screenshot of this error message because I never saw such a message. You can use a file hoster like

Fact is if it would be really a hardware malfunction your notebook can be repaired from an authorized service provider for free during warranty time. If you bought it in March it?s still under warranty.

But first of all you should post a screenshot of this message. Maybe it?s just a fail alert or there is another simple solution for your problem. ;)

When I transport my Satellite C660-223 somewhere e.g. carrying it from home to uni in a protective case in my back pack, I sometimes get a System Warning window flashing up every 20 seconds or so saying +"Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service".+

This happens only when I have transported it somewhere, and to begin with these system warnings only sometimes flashed up after I'd transported it somewhere, but over the last two years it started happening pretty much every time I took the laptop somehwere. When the system warnings are flashing up the computer only feels slightly hotter than normal; no danger of immediately overheating.

I have not had it serviced because the problem seemed to resolve itself the next time I transported the computer somewhere. It is a very strange problem where the short-term solution was the same as the cause: as in I would take the laptop somewhere, the system warning would flash up, and I learned that taking it 'for a walk' would somehow fix whatever the 'problem' was. I solved the problem this way too many times for it to be a coincidence.

So for a while it wasn't really such a problem because I just avoided taking the laptop anywhere. But recently the system warning has start flashing up if I simply carry the laptop upstairs, and the system warning doesn't go away with my incredibly non-tech-savvy method of 'taking it for a walk', whic... Answer:Satellite C660-223 - System Warning: "Problem with cooling system detected'

Such notification could appear due to different reasons.
The alert could appear due to
1) Cooling system malfunctions
2) Blocked cooling vents or fans
3) Software issue (VAP - value added package or BIOS)

In case of cooling system malfunction you should contact the service agents for fix.

In case of blocked cooling vents and fans it?s enough to clean the parts using compressed air spray.
This helps to get rid of dust inside the cooling module.

If the vents aren't blocked and you still see this message, check the Service Station application for updates to your computer. If any are found, download and install them.
You could try to uninstall or update the Toshiba Value Added Package. This package contains some essential tools and utilities which control the cooling system too.
Check also BIOS for update.

But if you still receive this error, your laptop may require servicing

My Satellite L850 has a system warning coming up
"Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected.

Please turn off the computer immediatly, and return it for service."
Is this a known glich or should i be taking this back to the shop
The lappy is only 4-5 months out of the box.

Answer:Satellite L850 - System Warning - A problem with the cooling system

In my opinion you should not waste your time discussing in forums. Notebook is pretty new and should work perfectly so my opinion is that you should contact your local dealer or Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help.

Do you know how to find nearest Toshiba service provider?

Hi all,

Hope I can get some help here. I've had about 5 HP laptops after all of them had problems and faults. I got sick of them and therefore got a refund and bought a high spec A660-1FH.

The A660 has been a great laptop for two days until yesterday when I started getting a warning message saying 'A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service'.

The cpu fan works fine as you can here it spinning and the temperature of the i5-460m processor is around 40 degrees for both cores - which seems normal to me. I've noted that it happens only when running on battery and if you switch from eco utility to power saver mode. Its fine when running on the 'balanced' power setting. The fan is louder before when this message appears.

As its under 28 days my retailer swapped it for a brand new one straight away. Got the new one home, and the same message appears again. Has anyone else experienced this. As two laptops have had this, I'm wondering if this is normal for the A660 series laptop or if there is really a hardware issue?!

I have tried to upgrade eco utility and the bios of the laptop but both are the latest versions. Can anyone help or share if they experience a similar issue with their laptop?

Answer:'A problem with the cooling system' error message on Satellite A660

In front of me I have Satellite A660-13Q (PSAW3E) and I have it about 6 weeks now. It runs almost 10 hours daily and until now I didn?t notice such message or anything else that can be suspect for hardware functionality.

I really don?t know why this happen on your notebook and don?t think there is anything you can do about it.
I would exchange it again. What you can also try is to contact nearest Toshiba service. Make a call, explain the situation and ask if they can help you with this.

A problem with the cooling system has been detected please immediately turn of the computer and return it for service

This message has recently appeared, pc working fine and only purchased last month, is this a software isssue and how can I fix it.

Answer:Satellite C660-125: Software message: cooling system problem

It looks that this is a software bug. You should recover the notebook using Toshiba HDD recovery or Toshiba Recovery disk which you could create using the Recovery disk creator?

Usually the message should not appear in the future?

But don?t be afraid? if you didn?t notice an higher temperature and if the notebook does not shut down automatically, then everything should be ok!

When I use it wtih battary I get a message like "Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service."

I am getting it *only baterry about %30* but not allways, sometimes.

I look temp of hardware with a program when I got this message but they are normal.

Why am I getting this message?

Answer:Re: Satellite A660-1EK - Cooling system warning

Never heard about an error message like this?
Do you use the preinstalled Windows version from Toshiba with all drivers and tools?

What programs shows you this error message? Can you post a screenshot for example?

Maybe a BIOS update could help you? You should check the Toshiba website for an update. After updating the BIOS load the default settings and check if the error still exists or not.

Try to clean it up. On Google you can find very good instructions how to clean up the notebook using compressed air.
Do it and check if the same warning will be shown again.

My cooler does not work, and I get the message:
"Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected.
Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service."

After that the cpu gets ridiculous slow.
My laptop is a toshiba 5205-S703. I can't take the laptop to a service repair cause here in Brasil we can't trust in such services.

My cooler is not running not, I think It is damaged. I opened the laptop and lubrificate it, but it doesnt work.

I **think**, the problem can be:
- just the cooler (I will order a cooler as soon as I discover a place on the internet where I could order OEM parts);
- the cooler and the processor (as the processor is very slow It may have damaged the processor). My processor is a P4 Mobile 2.0ghz. And I dont know where to get a new processor? Anybody know?
- or the worst of all. The motherboard function which triggers the cooler was damaged. If this happened I think I lost my laptop

Can anybody help me on this? dMy mail is "[email protected]"

OEM Laptop parts?...

OEM laptopparts?... Good luck call the builder of the system and get a new one even off warrenty they will often ship the parts free if it is just a fan. I would run the lappy opened for a few seconds to see in the fan is running, DONOT think about putting one finger on the system when it is like this and don't move till you turn the system off cotton shirt and denem is a good thing to ware when doing this to reduce the static charge grab the power cable and hold it a second or two then turn the system off holding the cable, ot dispell static and the human body cannot feel static charges less then 3000 volts and at 30 you can kill parts in your computer... on some systems even less then 30 v will kill it. As far as the temp reader when you replace the fan on most laptops the reader is build into the fan so if it was the reader then that will be fixxed if the problem continues they I would E Bay the system for parts and start looking at new systems... As far as Intel build Laptops go get a Dell or a Toshiba if you want some real Power for you money gen and AMD Rig from Aser... I like their Farrie Line as they have evrything you will need in a laptop and they will handle some real crazy newer games... there is a few Asers that will handle HL2 and Doom3 not at max setting but it will run better then some towers that are playing the games... Just rember that with Dell you are doning to pay for the better inhouse tech support then you will if you buy som... Read more

Sorry I wasn't exactly sure where to post this thread

I looked up how to remove this warning that keeps coming up on this forum earlier and followed the procedure someone posted about renaming a file called TWARNMSG.EXE. i couldn't find that file, and as the problems and the make of laptop were slightly different, I thought I'd post my issue.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-16W and I have a message that keeps coming up every ~20 seconds headed "System Warning" and reads: "Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. (Next Line) Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service."

I have had this warning coming up for months and tolerated it but it has gotten worse and annoyed me for the last time. I can hear the fan, and the computer is not over heating. No other issues arise like the computer slowing down, it just gets in the way of what I am doing, like typing right now. As I have typed, it's already popped up 6-7 times.

Please help soon, this is preventing me from gaming and even other things by now.

Answer:Repetitive cooling system warning -- Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-16W

I'm going to have your thread moved to a more appropriate forum. Please stay subscribed.

Note: TWarnMsg twarnmsg.exe > Toshiba System Warning Function for Windows 98, Me, 2000 - provides notification dialog when the cooling fan stops ...

This is a valid program, but it is up to you whether or not you want it to run on startup.
There are some rogue programs that give fake alerts or 'critical system messages.' But this isn't one of them. It is specific to the brand of system you have. It might be that someone in the other forum has another idea- but my suggestion would be to take it to a show and have them open and clean out the box.

I read about such message and it looks like it?s a software bug?
Did you notice any issues with the cooling system? I mean something like higher temperature or unexpected shut downs?
If not then this was a ?wrong? alarm?
You can ignore this message and I read that after new system recovery the message did not appear again.

I use for about year a SATELLITE P70-A-129 laptop.

Lately I get quite frequently a warning message on the desktop:

Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.

Answer:Satellite P70-A-129 - cooling system error message

I assume the message looks like this one:

Hmm? did you notice some strange noises which could appear due to faulty cooling fan/module?
How about the internal temperature? Did it increase?

From my knowledge such message appeared due to software bug. The update of Toshiba Value Added package has solved the problem?
But the VAP was available for Win Vista / 7 and your notebook seems to be preinstalled with Win 8.1.
I think you should simply check if your system is up to date. (also BIOS)

In case everything is up to date, get in contact with Toshiba ASP because it could be possible that your cooling system malfunctions?

Hi Guys,
I have TOSHIBA Settelite A45 S151 and i am getting this warning "A problem with the cooling system has been detected."
My machine becomes very slow. I check some theads to find out whats going on. Most of them says it may be heat sink or fan. But my fan is working and I cleaned my heat sink properly but still it is giving me the same problem.
Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Answer:Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected

Really you already took apart your notebook and cleaned the CPU heatsink and the cooling fan and you still have this problem? Well the slow down means the mobo is sensing high temperature of the CPU and automatically clocking it down to reduce heat. So maybe you have sensor problem, mobo problem or the CPU heatsink has come loose from the CPU.

Maybe time to taken it in for service.

My L500 fan is no longer working correctly

I am getting this message

Warning:a problem with the cooling system has been detected. please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.

The fan runs inconsistently (always for a few seconds on start-up, very sporadically the rest of the time, but it is completely stationary for the most part.

The computer is currently in pieces, and I am ready to replace the fan with a new one, however im not sure that will fix the problem (as the fan still seems to sometimes run).

I bought my first toshiba laptop last saturday, and i find it wierd that the cooling fan works around 80%(data taken from the software provided: PC Toshiba Monitor Health) all the time i have the laptop on, it never slows or stops...nothing exept full throttle.

It keeps its cool, thats a fact, but its pretty noisy and while surfing the web or working on microsoft office for example, it can be pretty anoying and energy demanding.

Another thing i question is, in a long term, how healthy is the fact of the fan working non-stop at this amount of speed for the laptop? Should i be concerened and maby taking it to be checked by the store i bought it? Or its normal?

Below is a link of a screenshot i took from the numbers i'm talking about:

I would purchase a can of compressed air or use an air compressor (with a light gentle nozzle) and blow the dust out of the inside. If you have a failed cooling fan, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. That model I think is rather old, it may not be worth it to repair.

Hi folks

I'm a complete dummy when it comes to pc's !!
I have had 2 smart messages stating that my HDD will fail????
I have managed to check the status on my HDD in the monitor and it states "poor" - how do I rectify this?

Will it be a case of a new HDD?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Satellite L500 - poor HDD warning

Sounds like the HDD would not be 100% ok?
But it?s difficult to say why? I would recommend checking the HDD status and health using an 3rd party software. You can check the Drive Fitness Test software.
It?s freeware and you can download this from some different pages.

If some errors would be detected, then I would say: it's times for data backup...
It's always a good idead to have a backup in case something would go wrong with the HDD... you know...

My Sat A660 1FH pops up a message which says there is a cooling problem and I should switch it off, but when I check the settings there is no problem. can anyone help please?

Answer:Satellite A660, SWITCH OFF COOLING PROBLEM message pops up

Hi mikeswan,

I have Satellite A660 since October 2010 so over 4 months now and never saw such an error message on my Satellite A660. Everything is running properly, cooling system works normally and otherwise no problems.

Nothing comes from nothing so I think there is really a problem with your cooling system or high temperature.

Your notebook should be still under warranty because it?s new model. That?s very good because I would contact nearest authorized service provider as fast as possible before you get any hardware damages due higher internal temperature. I think your notebook must be checked from professional people to make sure there is no problem or get the error fixed. Maybe the fan must be replaced or something else? I really don?t know.

I can help you to find an authorized service provider so follow this link: > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

That?s a list of all ASPs with phone number and everything else what you need that you can get in contact with the guys.
I think it?s the best idea and if there is a hardware problem, repair will cost nothing. :)

Don?t be scared about this error message.
The error message says that your cooling module is faulty but this does not seem to be right? read about similar error here in the forum and it look like it?s an software bug or something similar? however, you can recover the notebook using recover disk and after that the message should not come back.

I am attempting to fix a Qosmio G20 (which is about 3 years old, so no longer in warranty).

The error message is: Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected.

I have managed to remove the outer case and observe the machine working, and basically one of the fans is not operating at all. The fan which is nearest to the power connector seems to be working fine (it seems to spin quite a lot, dont know if this is normal), it is the other fan which does not seem to move at all.

When I reattached the case and switched the machine on I noticed after a few minutes that the heatsink vent of the working fan got quite warm, whereas the vent of the non-working fan stayed cool.

I have cleaned the fan of dust and have also altered the BIOS to battery mode from high performance mode, but still the problem exists.

I would be grateful if someone could advise whether the problem is the fan or something else.

If the fan is the problem, where can I buy one from (I live in the UK)?

Answer:Qosmio G20 error message: problem with cooling system has been detected

In my opinion there could be something wrong with the cooling module and the replacement would be necessary.
Usually this should be done by an authorized service provider (ASP) in your country.

The technicians could replace it with a new part and also could renew the thermal grease which is placed between the cooling module and CPU.

Therefore contact the ASP in your country and ask for the further handling!!!

By the way; you can purchase the cooling module also from the ASP!!!

Good luck

Hi, I have a laptop about a year ago. And for 5 months I was a problem with the fans. Go out and the following message appears:

Warning: A Problem with the cooling system has-been detected. Please turn off the computer Immediately, and return it for service.

The strange thing is that the first time that happened stopped working a week, then one month and finally stopped working until 3 months he has now not start.
I have even the implied warranty of the product but I have not thought about sending it because it practically need every week for classes. I can use it perfectly but if I perform actions that require higher performance like playing games or upload multiple videos at once begins to warm up, get the message and if continuous eventually shut down.
What should I do and how I can fix the problem?

Sorry if I do not understand very well. I do not speak English.

There may be dust stuck in the heat sink.
blow the dust out through the vent using compressed air.

hi there everyone,

Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. please turn off the computer immediately and return it for service.

In the toshiba health monitor the cpu is under 50% temp and if it goes much above that the cooling fan comes on and lowers it back down and the fan stops again, I have noticed that only the r/h fan runs to cool the cpu, should both them come on together? Could it be a software problem?

Which program gives you this error message about the cooling system?

Before you contact a service partner as you can read in error message, you should clean the cooling system using compressed air spray. Maybe the dust is blocking the fan or something else. Furthermore for cleaning procedure it?s not necessary to disassemble it.
Here is an article about this: [How to clean the cooling system of a Toshiba notebook?|]

If it doesn?t help, contact nearest service partner.

I had been keeping about 30 minutes working notebook in a bag, when I got out it from the bag, it was some hot.
I have message now in windows 7 system: problem with cooling system, and then they reccomend turn it off immediately.

I have bought it in USA with guarantee, but I'm living in Russia. Should I send it to firm or maybe I can repair it in the local Toshiba service centre?
How much money should I pay for repairing such defect?

Answer:Satellite T115-S1100 problem with cooling system

Can you hear a fan noise? I guess, the fan doesn't work anymore and system prompts you to shutdown. If it's fan malfunction, you can contact any service center in Russia. they can replace it easily. You should contact the toshiba service center if they provide international warranty

My laptop is a *Toshiba Satellite C660D-11E* and I have a message that keeps coming up every once in a while headed "System Warning" and reads: "Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. (Next Line) Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service."

I have had this warning coming up for weeks and tolerated it but it has gotten worse and annoyed me for the last time. I can hear the fan, and the computer is not over heating (the freeware tool CPUCool is detecting a CPU temprature of 51? C). No other issues arise like the computer slowing down, it just gets in the way of what I am doing, like typing right now.

I've tried to solve the problem by changing the "Power Options" in the Windows 7 Control Panel to "High Performance" and then choosed under both the "On battery" and "Plugged in" columns, "Never" as the "Put the computer to sleep" setting. This seems to work and no error message occured since then. However this is not a solution...

Please help soon, this is preventing me from working and even other things by now.

Usually such message would appear if something would be wrong with the cooling system. But I read here in the forum that this might be a software bug and after new system recovery this message should not appear anymore.

But if you have notice some abnormal noises or higher temperature, then I would recommend checking this with an service technician?

I have a Satellite P750 that brings up the following warning, "Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service".

The Health Monitor shows that the cooling system is doing what it is supposed to do so I searched Toshiba Forums for an answer. The search did not produce any useful results but a Google search turned up a thread on these forums that the original search did not.

The thread runs from 2010 with the last post being in April this year. It is four pages long with dozens of people experiencing this warning and yet it still has no conclusive fix.
One or two of these people may have genuine cooling problems but the majority are false warnings.
One thing suggested was to delete the "Toshiba Value Added Package". I deleted this from my computer and the warning has gone away.
In the thread, there are many instances of people sending their computers back under warranty without satisfactorily resolving the problem. I have a working computer again but can't use a Toshiba Program on a Toshiba Computer.

Nowhere have I seen Toshiba acknowledge the problem and nor have I seen them supply a fix.
Is there a BIOS or VAP that will allow me to run the VAP without the warning?
Is there a Toshiba rep who would like to defend Toshiba's position

I have had this computer for i think almost a year, the message didn't pop up until we had installed Triad Wars, when we had installed it I had put it in a case to download the game. The next morning I got the computer out and it was extremly hot. I didn't have the message pop up until maybe around 2 or 3 days after we had downloaded the game. I had had this problem for a while now but it just pops up randomly.... because I would close out of it and it wouldn't come back for a while. Now the message won't stop popping up but at one random point it went I think a week or two without popping up when I had sat it on a desk. After I moved it, it started popping up again... Now it won't quit.. I had downloaded CPUID HWMonitor to monitor the temp. Sometimes the message pops up at 45%, 55%, and in the 60's and 70's.. Sometimes... The computer has went up to around 73% when I had Avast but when I got rid of Avast and got AVG my computer has randomly sometimes spiked to 82 to 83%... I do have a cooling pad on it but I don't think it is working.. I have checked inside of the computer but there is no dust.. We don't have the money to get it fixed and I need the computer to record Let's Play's and do my other work.

Suddenly began getting a pop-up warning: "System Warning  A problem with the cooling system has been detected.  Please turn off the computer immediately and return it for service."It's a 2 month old Toshiba Satellite S655D.  I had to return it once for them to replace the harddrive.  I notice from the Toshiba Health Monitor that came on the machine, that the fan doesn't come on until the CPU temp is at 48%, then it comes on & runs at 40 -60% until the CPU drops.  If it drops too far, the fan goes off.  As the CPU temp goes up the warning pops up.  Eventually, at around 48% CPU, the fan comes on again.  So, either the fan is waiting too long to come on or the warning is set to pop up too soon.Toshiba wants me to send it in again for service, but reading on the Toshiba forum  , there are others with cooling problems, mostly that the fan runs continuously at 90 or 100% creating an unacceptable level of noise.  The conclusion on that forum is that it's a BIOS issue.I have received the shipping box from Toshiba, but don't want to be without the machine for 3 weeks again, if 48% is not dangerous and a BIOS update they will eventually come up with will fix the issue.Any thoughts? Thanks!Jaums

Answer:Cooling System Warning

Don't pay attention to people on forums. (Except this one, of course!) Anyhow their problems sound different. Send it back. It already had hardware problems and may need more attention. It's under warranty and if it goes belly-up you'll be without it for weeks anyway and you may find you voided your warranty by ignoring the warnings. Alternatively, don't send it back, but pray a lot. It's your computer, your choice.

You did not provide any details about your notebook model and the system which is installed on the notebook.

Its even not known to me how old the notebook is but according to this short message, it looks like there is some problem with the cooling system.

Probably the notebooks cooling fan doesn?t work properly and the unit cannot be cooled down as it should? this can lead to notebook damage due to higher internal temperature.

I've just boupght a Satellite L500 and have installed some of the software from my old laptop. Whenever I boot up I noew get an error message telling me that I need NET. framework version 2. I've tried downloading this from the Microsft site but my laptop tells me a newer version is already installed.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this error message?

Answer:NET Framework error message on Satellite L500

What to say? seems the old installed software needs framework 2.
Possibly it?s not compatible with newer framework?

Maybe you should remove the installed framework from the system firstly.
Then after new reboot and registry cleaning (using CCleaner for example) you could install framework 2 again?

Good luck

I have a Satellite L500 - 19X and an Deskjet F4500 printer.

Recently had problems printing & the printer icon had disappeared from the devices & printers window of the control panel. Deleted all the programs & reinstalled the printer from the original CD.

Printer is now working fine & Icon has reappeared. However Laptop Icon on devices & printers window shows yellow warning triangle & says Laptop needs troubleshooting.

When I do this it says printer driver not installed, apply fix. When I try this it says device not successfully installed no driver found.

Surely the driver must be installed as the printer is working fine.

How can I get rid of the indication that the Laptop needs troubleshooting?

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500 - message: Printer Driver not installed

In the whole story I see one problem: Toshiba doesn?t support third part hardware and software so when you have such problems you must contact HP support and clarify this with them.
HP has created this software and they know what to do in such situation.

If you have problem with notebook ports or anything else than you are on the right place here.

All we can say here is to remove preinstalled software, clean up the registry and install it again.

Please help me ;-)

I had problems with a connector of a fan on the motherboard. I make an "handcrafted" bridge to make it work. Now, I succeed in controlling the temperatures : I make the CPU works at 100% and the temperatures given by "SpeedFan" remains at " Local Temp = 36?C- Remote Temp = 44?C and Temp1 = 43?C. The exhaust remains "mild" and never hot as bafore (60?C and more reached). Now I think it's really safe .... BUT.... I still have lots of unpredictable warning that slow (and it's deep...) the processor.

It says (translate from french) : _"Warning : An error was detected on the cooling system. Shut down your computer immediately and consult our vendor"_

To be sincere, I don't know if it's really the connector mistake... maybe other hardware (probe...) or software problem. *I just can't use my computer with this warning... Please, help me to kill this process or maybe only to stop the "strangulation" of the processor*. I make researches in the registry but without success.

Thank you.

Best regards.

Answer:How to kill the system warning about cooling that slows the processor?

If I understand you well you have ?manipulated? mainboard and now you also want to ?manipulate? this warning.
As far as I know notebook owners have no influence on this warning and you cannot disable it so simply.
What would happen if every one of us could be able to disable all annoying warnings and ignore potential hardware damage?

Let?s see what other forum users have different opinion.

Hello! I have 2 Toshiba Laptops, and amazingly both suddenly present "Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected...". One laptop is 3 months old, and the 2nd is 2 years old. It seems to me that these are false warnings as once they are clicked off, they disappear for a long time. The units don't feel warm at all. A Google search reveals lots of these issues. Since both machines were recently upgraded to W10, I thought it could be some software conflict, but after restoring both back to W8.1, the warnings continue. I loaded SpeedFan to monitor and adjust the temperatures and fans, but SpeedFan reports no spiking temperatures ever...all monitors running cool as a cuke.
I contacted Toshiba, and one service rep refused to acknowledge an awareness of such a problem, and a second seemed to suggest some conflict with Windows.
So I am up here at Techguys to see if anyone has heard of this problem and may have a solution. There is always the concern that the warning may be real and something is cooking inside. I suppose I could open the case up and blow out everything, but the one notebook is only 3 months old.
Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

Used Toshiba product recovery disks to recover system on new hard drive in Toshiba L500 PSLS3A-04M002.

During recovery, Windows complained 'Windows can not verify the digital signature for this file' - file is LPCFilter.sys.

Also while setting up drivers, Windows made the same complaint about Realtek High Definition Audio driver and a Virtual WiFi Filter Driver (from Microsoft Corp!).

Following the restore, if I start Windows normally, the Windows startup repair starts automatically with a title "Your computer was unable to start". The startup repair takes a while then comes up with a message "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically".

If I press F8 on startup, and choose the option "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement", Windows starts without any problems.

I thought doing a Windows Update might help but when I click on "Check For Updates" button I get a message "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." When I look in Services I see that the service is running.

I don't want to press F8 every time I start up and don't think it's a good idea to do it anyway and would like to be able to update Windows.

I would appreciate any help.

I have an L500-19Z laptop running Windows 7 64bit. On a number of occasions I've wanted to run System Restore but have yet to succeed. No matter which restore point I select the system restore appears to work (initialising etc) but when it reboots I get the message telling me that it failed with the suggestion that it might have failed due to an anti-virus program running.

I use Zone-Alarm but have turned it off when trying to restore but it makes no difference. Yesterday, I made a mistake an inadvertantly lost my Wireless Network Adaptor. There's a restore point which I could use to recover but as I said above it always fails. Unless I can get System Restore to work it looks like I'll have to re-install Windows which I'm loathe to do.

Can anyone help, please?

Answer:Satellite L500-19Z - System Restore Fails

If still no luck, you may need to start fresh by backing up your data and running Recovery (create Recovery Discs first).

sounds something went wrong after the cleanup. I recommend you to send your machine immediately to an service partner and let them check your machine because the notebook could have some serious hardware malfunction.

Before sending your machine to them I would check the cable of the cooling fan and reattach it, maybe this could remove the error message.

I have a SP6100 and it keeps giving me an error message regarding the cooling fan not working. It then tells me to shut down immediatley and runs very slow. The fan does come on, but after three or four short bursts it stops and the message comes up.
Is this a mechanical problem with the fan? I took out the heatsink and fan and it was clean and not sticking.
Could it be a system problem? The BIOS has recently been updated.
Should I just invest in a new cooling unit, and if so where could I get one?

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100: error message - cooling fan doesn't work

Chances are that your fan either came unplugged or malfunctioned and fails to initialize. You can get one at your nearest Authorized Service Provider. They will even replace it, cept it costs a little bit more. If you know how to do it, you can have them order it and install it yourself. Thing is if you let them do it, they will test your computer and make sure that is the defective part so you do not spend money needlessly. But that is up to you in how much you want to spend/do. Hope this helps you out.

A few weeks ago I posted a thread about Repair Discs and Recovery Discs. Basically, I have a Satellite L500-19Z laptop which was running a 64bit version of Windows.

Because of a problem I had to re-install Windows. The disc that came with the laptop was Product Recovery Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. Not realising the implications of re-installing using this.
I've now ended up with a 32bit operating system meaning that I can only use 3gb of my 4gb RAM.

I didn't realise that I'd actually created a Recovery Disc at the time that I bought the laptop.
Could I use that to enable me to revert to a 64bit system?

Would I lose my data (I can back it up) and would I be allowed to recover a 64bit system to a system which is currently a 32bit system?

Answer:Would I lose my data recovering Satellite L500-19Z using 64bit system?

The usage of Recovery disk would set the notebook back to the factory settings which mean that the HDD would be formatted at the beginning of the procedure.

In such case all the data would be erased from the HDD?

I have the Satellite L500 (PSLJ0A-01F013( experiencing a BSOD (Stop: 0X000C1F5) which googling has identified as a corrupt file on the HDD. Unfortunately the MS fix needs to be applied prior to the corruption occurring. I have tried many options, I cannot force a recovery using the Press 0 key on power up and have basically given up. I intend to install a new HDD and load Vista from new. My main question is, how do I identify whether the licensed system is 64 bit or 32 bit? The Cert of authenticity only identifies it as Home Premium OEMAct.

If I reinstall Vista, is there a way to create a Toshiba recovery disk once I have got the laptop working to my satisfaction, ie with all drivers and ancillary software loaded?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite L500 - BSOD Identification of Vista Operating system

The COA key is for both 32bit and 64bit, but it will only work in an OEM version of Vista (The pre-installed Vista installation from Toshiba).

So if you install a retail/street version of Vista, you will need to buy a license from Microsoft.

I believe you can order a Recovery Disc from Toshiba. Looking on their website, the phone number is 13 30 70

That was when i made the mistake, after a few more minutes my computer shut down on its own.

I went to the PC Health Monitor and found out that whenever the Warning pops up, my fan speed is on 0%.
This is really troubling me, the Warning only pops up when i'm playing Online games, i checked my Task Manager and my disk was on 99%.

Can someone please tell me what is wrong with my computer?

I would be very grateful if someone could land me a hand.

Answer:Satellite P70-A - Warning message and notebook overheating

Obviously the cooling module does not work properly and this leads to an higher internal temperature while gaming.
The notebook shuts down automatically in order to protect the internal parts from damage.
In my opinion this is related to higher internal temperature.

From my point of few you should not waste the time and should get in contact with a local Toshiba ASP which is available in your country. I think the cooling module malfunction is a serious issue and in worst case the internal parts like GPU or CPU could be affected by high temperature.

Hi there

Can anyone tell me the maximum fan speeds for the Satellite P30-145, Im having problems with the cooling system, in that my computer is cutting out because its getting too hot, Ive currently got it raised by 1inch on wooden beams to help the air circulation, and I wanted to know what the fan speed is for the possibility of a fan upgrade.

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Satellite P30-145 Cooling system - computer gets too hot

it's not possible to upgrade the fan. And there should also be no need to. Normally the fan can cool the processor without problems. Maybe there is some dust in the cooling system, so it can't get enough fresh air. Try to clean it with a vacuum cleaner.

And maybe the program RM Clock will be interesting for you.

I've got this model of Toshiba and I am strongly disappointed of its cooling possibilities. Fan is starting work every 2 minutes or even earlier, it's annoying because fan starts with high rpm's which is quite noisy. I know that some other notebook manufacturers had similar problem with one of their models and then they put online new Bios with option of put on the fan on low rpm's all the time which keeps CPU in lower temperature.

In silent mode My CPU gets 59?C without any hard work, isn't that too much? I think that's too much for sure. It's common problem in L-20.
Why Toshiba didn't issue Bios with more expanded fan options?
Too much costs?

Answer:Annoying cooling system on Satellite L20

Usually cooling options you can find in power management tool. Unfortunately your unit is delivered without it. As far as I know the BIOS is the same and L20 has no special BIOS with more cooling options. I don?t believe that high costs can be reason for creating BIOS update but I presume that there is maybe some critical level that must be overstepped and than the update will be designed.

I don?t know how old is your unit but I recommend you to clean the unit and remove all dust that don?t allow properly cooling procedure.

I don?t agree with you about CPU temperature because I use small notebook hardware control tool and CPU temperature in my case is always about 56-62 ?C in case when I use it just for writing, like at this moment. Because of that I don?t agree with your comment about common problem.

The original memory works good.

Obviously you bought not compatible modules.
The PC3 12800 1600Mhz isn?t listed as an supported module.

The Satellite L500 can be upgraded up to 8GB RAM and you can use two 4GB DDR3 1066MHz (PC3-8500) SO-DIMM modules.

I have a Satellite L500-1UR, with 64-Bit.

After a Windows Update my grapic board is down. I only have a standard monitor.
I can only switch between two different resoultions (1024x768 or 800x600).
Previous i have something with 1300x768.
I cannote use the previos driver anymore.

My Graphic board is Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family.
When I actualize the driver nothing happen.

Under the properties stand, that the digital signature can?t be prooved.
Code 52. I make a system recovery.
The first days it was like before but after another windows update the same failure happen again.

And now i can?t make another system recovery anymore.

Please help me somebody, I am desperate.

Answer:Satellite L500-1UR - Problem with the graphic

Unfortunately I cannot explain what happened exactly with your machine. Maybe you have installed all available updates (important and optional). Maybe the display driver was offered as optional driver.

Anyway, what you can do now is follow:
-try to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore option
-reinstall display driver -
-in worst case you can reinstall OS using HDD recovery option (I hope it works)

If you have more questions you are welcome.

Hello everyone,

I recently bought myself a new notebook, the Satellite L500-1C7. It's running fine except for one question that I have: I am aware of the fact, that the battery lasts for only about 2-2,5 hours. But is it normal for the computer to shut down when the battery sign is showing 22% (happens after about 2,25 hours)? Then, after I put the power cable in, the battery sign suddenly shows 5%.
Is this usual or is something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L500-1C7 battery problem

At first I must say that 2,5 hours working time on battery power supply is really great and the same is with my Satellite A300.

To be honest the whole story is a little bit strange for me. Usually before notebook switches off you should hear and see battery alarm when the critical power level is reached.
Please try to change these settings in advanced power settings and watch what happen exactly. set it to 10 or 15% and change also settings what should happen when critical level is reached (standby/hibernation/switching OFF).

If the critical level is 5% I cannot imagine notebook switches off at 22% without this battery alarm message.
How do you know it happens on 22% when notebook suddenly switches off?

For the past few months my Toshiba Satellite L500-1 is shutting down frequently due overheating, which occurs during intensive use of the laptop (during gaming, photomanipulation etc.). However, I do not know what I can do about this. I will not open my laptop, unless I am told to open my laptop to do a specific task.

Today my laptop shut off again. However, when I turn it back on I noticed something happened with my fan. At this point, my laptop will not overheat fast as usually. Instead of fanspeed of 90+% it stays around the 58 to 60% (according to the Toshiba PC Health Monitor). Nevertheless, I noticed something happened with my fan. After shutdown I noticed that the fan will occasionally make a ticking noise, which is heard once every 10 minutes when the laptop is under intensive use.

What should I do now? This does worry me, should I be worried about this? Maybe another Toshiba user with a similar problem can provide me support. I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L500 - Shutdown and a fan problem

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem can be.
When you use your notebook do you use it placed on the desk?
Do you use it with AC power supply?

Which power profile do you use when notebook shuts down?
Have you tried to change power settings or anything else?

Before you start to use it intensively have you tried to end some background processes, disconnect external devices, just to see if this will help?

I have a friends TOSHIBA Satellite Pro L500 running win7 32bit. It has this boot up problem I have not come across before. When it boots it stops at the screen with F2 for setup and F12 for boot devices and goes no further. F12 brings up the boot device menu and when the HDD is selected the windows boot menu appears safe mode etc, I need to select 'start windows normally' which it then does.

I have tried 'startup repair', updated bios, deleted partitions and did clean install of the OS and also tried a different HDD. Nothing works.

I don't think it is a BIOS virus because no messages appear. is the ROM damaged?

I have a Qosmio X500-11U PQX33E, bought in the summer of 2010. Since 2012 (1 month after the warranty ended) it started making restarts for no reason but i did not give to much attention to it as it happened rarely. However after 1 year things got worse and I ended up on having a gaming laptop that I used only as an internet browser PC. From time to time I blew the fans to clean them...Finally I decided to fix it.

I gave it to a technician, he cleaned it, replaced the thermal paste from CPU-GPU and replaced one of the fans that was not working properly.

Still nothing changed. I have tested it again (by running windows experience rating) and it crashed as before.

I took the big decision to revert to factory settings and I made a clear installation of all system components (including all toshiba's stuff).

Again restart during windows rating. ...(same thing happens when I run any high graphic games)

I Flashed the bios to v2.90

Again restart during windows rating. (same thing happens when I run any high graphic games)

In addition to the above, since I made the clean installation of the system, I have started to get the message "Warning: A problem with the cooling sensor has occurred....return it for service"

I can hear the fan working however when I run the diagnostic tool of Toshiba, CPU usage is at 50% and fan at 0%, even in high power usage (yes I have changed the power settings as well)

fan usage is at 0% because my fans are now connected to USB ports in order to have them run faster as the technician replied to me. I have removed Toshiba Value added package and got rid of the message "Warning: A problem with the cooling sensor has occurred....return it for service". Laptop is working fine when browsing internet and watching movies.

However when I try to run any 3D graphic applications (and some flash based facebook games) it crashes (automatic shut down)

We have run 2 GPU benchmarks and both of them crashed when the card became loaded (same thing that happens during window rating)

We have reinstalled as well Physxloader.dll which was corrupt.

I am getting a message from the operating system on my SP6000, the message tells me that my cooling system is not functioning well, and after that the computer switches off. It seams the cooling fan is not running. Could that be a software problem or a hardware problem?

Answer:Cooling system not functioning well on Satellite Pro 6000

If the cooling module doesn?t run it?s very danger because the CPU can damage.
I don?t think that it?s a software problem because the fans should running without any software.
Of course the Toshiba power saver which is preinstalled on the unit controls the CPU and fan usage.

First of all you should check the fans and if necessary try to clean it with the vacuum cleaner.
If after this procedure the cooling modules cannot work properly so you should contact the service.

Since a few days I got an issue with my P200-16X. The cooling system doesn't work anymore and thus tmy laptop is overheating... until it shut down immediatly. Then I have to wait some time before being able to use it (the fridge is really good to cool it, but only when the need for the use is extrem). If I use it at the lowest consumption settings, I don't get overheating but still the CPU is at 65C all the time.

I know the classic answer to this kind of problem is dust, but this is not the case here. I've always paid attention to that and I've checked: there's not much dust on the fans or on the grid. I've gone in the BIOS but found no option to control the fans.

Do someone has any idea about that? What I find strange is that I've found someone on a forum having the same problem as me, and at the same time (a few days ago). Could it be some update for Vista which can be the cause of this (these are the only update I made since december and at the time, everything was working well as I was playing 3D computer games without any problem)?

Thank you.

What have they checked exactly? Have they disassembled the notebook and check fan functionality only?
As far as I know cooling system is not just the fan. The mainboard has several sensors that take care about overheating and critical hardware temperature. Maybe one of them is not working properly.
In my opinion you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

I have a Satellite A110 and it has trouble with cooling. I heard that there are extra cooling systems for notebooks but my question is if that is possible for my notebook as well.

Greetz Tom

Answer:Re: Need extra cooling system for Satellite A110

Hello Tom

Maybe you should simple clean up your notebook, or be sure your notebook is placed properly on the desk.

You can also put something under back side to make more distance between the desk and your laptop. I have placed two small books (about 1 cm) to allow better air circulation.

I can't find any Toshiba's Satellite Pro service manuals on website.

The problem is that computer gets hot while using it, the cooler works on top speed, I'm usually resolving those problems by cleaning the cooling system. HP Compaq have service manuals where everything's written - what and how to open, how to clean and which screwdriver to use.

So is there any Toshibas service manuals available on website?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1GT - cleaning cooling system

From my knowledge such service manuals are not downloadable for common users.
Just an Toshiba authorized service partner could download this.

However, if you want to clean the cooling modules, then I recommend using an compressed air spray. In my case it helps always.

I assume you are speaking about cooling module?
Well, each part is created especially for each notebook series?
This means you need an cooling module which is compatible and designed for Sat P300D.

All compatible parts can be ordered from local ASP (authorized service partner).

Therefore there is nothing else to do as to get in contact with an local service point and to order the needed parts?

Note; notebook disassembling is tricky? not easy like with desktop PCs?
Therefore cooling modules should be replaced by a professional?
