Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite L40-139 - Sound Card XP driver issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Toshiba Satellite L40-139 - Sound Card XP driver issue

i found a solution, the problem was with KB888111 that is not working with SP3
the soultion is:
1. On the reference PC change the CSDVersion registry key to reflect XP SP2:
a. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDV ersion value=200 (use
512 when scripting)

2. Restart the PC

3. Install KB888111xpsp2.exe (follow the link below and rename
KB888111XPSP2.txt to .exe)

4. Change the CSDVersion key back to reflect XP SP3 again:
a. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CSDV ersion value=300 (use
768 when scripting)

Ok basically I don't have any sound on the laptop and realised that there isn?t a driver installed so I went onto the Toshiba website and downloaded the correct one.

The problem however is that the driver won?t install properly it comes up with a windows error message saying that "tool for driver update" has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I am presuming this is a problem with the installation file so could someone help me out?

Re installed windows sound. Cant find any reference to sound driver in manager. I do recall seeing REALTEK at some time. Went to Toshiba site, and could not find anything there. Any link to proper sound driver for the laptop sound
Could use any reference to video, other updates.....appreciate!  Windows 7 OS.

Answer:~~Toshiba satellite sound driver...L505D..where is it?

Are there any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager under the Sound Category?
If you had a Realtek chipset it would most likely be a HD codec. You can download it here. Pick either 32bit or 64bit. If there are no devices listed under Sound in Device Manager it may not install.
There is also a troubleshooter in Control Panel under System and Security named Find and Fix Problems. Check the Sound Playback troubleshooter.

My Toshiba sound/video seems to be on it's way out. All i get is crackling and video quality is slow and choppy. This has happened in the past but magically restores to good quality for no apparent reason. At start up sometimes the computer sounds like a Harley revving it's engine. The headphone jack gets the same crackling so I was thinking it isn't just the speakers.
Do i need a new motherboard?
I can still surf web and perform basic functions with it, just no sound/video.
Any help is appreciated.

Where do I find the right driver?

It is very easy to find the driver. You must search in archive and check for drivers listed for WXP MCE.

Anyway, the right sound driver you can find HERE .

Hi all,

after having downloaded and installed the latest sound driver upgrade a few days ago I discovered that I could no longer use my sound card as recording device. Now I can only choose between the notebook's integrated microphone and the line-in jack.

Does anyone know how re-enable sound card recording, please?

Answer:Satellite P200 (PSPB3E) - Sound driver upgrade disables sound card recording

I'm not sure if i was clear or not.
Actually i can no longer record sound coming directly from my sound card.

I used to do it before installing that new sound driver.
I don't have a restore point for a date preceeding the install and i also remember that the installer warned me that it would uninstall the current sound driver before installing the new one.

So i guess that uninstalling the latest driver will leave me with no sound at all.

So what should i do?
How do i recover the ability to record sound from my sound card ?

Did you install a generic version of Windows? You need to install the AMD chipset driver first, so other PCI devices can install properly.

What is the size capacity of the SD Card?
Are you running XP? You may need to install Service Pack 3, or a Microsoft hotfix for SDHC support.

Hi all,

I've attached a full Everest report and I will list my specs then go into the details of my situation

Make: Acer.
Model: M5100.
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9500 Quad Core Processor 2.2 GHz
Ram: 4.00 GB
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP1

My problems started about a week ago when I came to my computer in the morning and found that the screen was crackling and fuzzy. I eventually found out I was having nlvddmkm.sys issues. The games I normally like to play wouldn't work at all. I tried a bunch of workarounds and the only one that worked was underclocking my Video Card using EVGA Precision Utility. This was only partially successful and I was still having issues with graphics glitches. So I bought a new Video Card: Radeon HD 4670.

Before installing it I started my computer in safe mode and used both CC Cleaner and Driver Sweeper to remove old graphics drivers.

When I started up the computer and ran the setup program from the CD to install drivers everything seemed to be good and my graphics were fine but... I had no sound.

This morning I was able to get sound but... only from my onboard Realtek Sound. My recently purchased X-Raider 7.1 Sound Card was showing in the Device Manager but when I tried to run it's setup to install correct drivers I kept getting a message telling me to the device was not plugged in.

Attempts to solve the issue:

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

Well I just found this forum today, so I decided to ask this question.

About a year ago, I had to system restore, because my computer just kept FSODing on me. When I went through the system restore process with Dell, at the end of the process I got an error. I don't quite remember what it was, as it was so long ago.

Ever since then, my computer has been completely without sound. I have tried everything from installing/reinstalling/uninstalling drivers, to the most simplistic, such as checking if my speakers work, or are connected.

So far, nothing has brought me any closer to figuring out what this problem could be. I am pretty sure that somehow, my sound card (its an integrated one) has just fried or something, but I really dont know.

So... is my sound card busted? Or are my drivers just not working for some reason?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer:Sound Card issue, or driver issue?

System restore . . .

System restore or system recovery? Did wipe the old operating system out and reinstall everything from scratch (system recovery) or did you use Windows' system restore to backdate the configuration. (Frankly, I think the choice these of terms by the industry are very confusing.)

Assuming system recovery and assuming the sound worked before and quit after system recovery, I'm for a misconfiguration. But, the simpler fix might be a cheap add-in sound card.

Just a quick bit of background info on my computer, running Windows XP SP3 with two accounts, one admin; one standard. Recently reinstalled Windows and went through the standard procedure of installing drivers etc. Although it was a little harder this time because the computer is incredibly old, it has dropped off the Packard Bell website (even the old FTP repo) so I had a little trouble finding the correct sound card driver. This led me to install a few different ones until I found one that worked.

This was great, until I rebooted the computer, and it no longer shows up as having a sound device; in the sound panel of Control Panel it shows up as 'No Audio Device'. However, if I switch to the other account, the one without administrator privileges (so I haven't installed anything through this account) the sound works fine. It shows up as 'SigmaTel Audio' and under the Hardware tab it labels it as 'Unimodem Half-Duplex Device'.

This seems strange, I wouldn't have thought it would be possible to install a driver for only one user, especially as I wasn't logged into that user when I was installing the driver...

Anyone got any hints?

Cheers guys,

It would help if you could state the make/model of laptop, and also the sound card that you are referring to."if the driver from the website for the laptop doesn't work?"Do you mean that you cannot download the driver? Or that the downloaded driver will not install - or that it does install but there is no sound?

Hi All,

I have an Australian sourced Satellite P100 P/N PSPA6A-02N021 (T7200 2GHz, 2GB DDR-667, nVidia 7900GTX, 1680x1050 display) on which I have just installed the latest Windows 7 RC (Build 7100 downloaded on May 6). After doing a clean install onto a brand new Western Digital 500GB drive, I experienced trouble with no sound output (error code 10) from the default Microsoft HD audo driver.

Because this was a clean install on a fresh HDD there was no internet connection to allow searching for the latest updates during the install. After completing the install, searching for an updated driver or windows update can't locate a better driver.

I have upgraded the BIOS to Phoenix Technologies V4.70 (from Toshiba's Australian website).

I have checked the audio driver that was working perfectly under Vista Business 32 running on this same laptop, and it was Conexant HD audio driver v3.18.051 (dated 2006/12/04). I obtained this driver from the net and installed under Win7 RC. This driver installed and is working, but I now only have sound from the left speaker which is very (too) low in level.

What I would like to find out is, has anyone else experienced this and how did you fix this problem, or do you have the same/similar Toshiba laptop and the sound works OK, or is there another way to do it.

Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite P100 - sound driver issue on Windows 7 RC

I?m wondering that you want to use an OS that is not released as yet and it?s only a Release Candidate...

Have you checked the sound settings on your notebook? Maybe the balance is only set to the left speaker.

To be honest I think you should wait until Windows 7 will be released and you will find newer drivers for it they are compatible with Windows 7.

As far as I know this unit was designed for the US market.
I have visited the Toshiba US website and found different drivers for the Win2K but unfortunately the sound driver was not released. :(

But don?t worry dude?. I think there is an external solution.
It looks like the A65 Satellite were equipped with the Realtek Audio sound chip and therefore the sound drivers from the Realtek website should help you.

Please visit the Realtek website and download the right driver.

I upgraded to win7 (64bit) and audio was functioning, perfectly. Then within a week, sound became crackly stopped working. I tested the speakers on another computer and they work fine. My mother board is an Asus P5GC-MX.

Looking in the System / Device Manager / System Devices, I see that a “High Definition Audio Controller” is present and working properly (says: device is working properly).
When I try to install the driver from Realtek (I tried 4 different versions including the latest version on their website being 2.42. (but shows this version on the error message 2.50 (R1.81), but none of them worked.

The most recent version of Realtek driver gave an error message of “No Driver Was Supported In This Driver Package”.

In the Control Panel, under SOUNDS, the Playback tab shows the message: “No Audio Devices are Installed”.

Please help me with this issue as I require sound for my seminars and I’ve been without sound for three weeks.

I have an issue with my audio driver which probably comes from my motherboard's sound card (Asus M5A97 PLUS)
This happens almost everyday. At any time my pc audio and mic just cuts off,if I try to turn it back on by unpluging and pluging back in my headphones or mute and unmute from my audio mixer I get a constant ear screeching static noise.
The only way I can fix it is by switching my audio type from stereo to quadroponic and it is back to normal, but either couple of hours later or the next day the audio will cut off again. The mic just stays dead if it cuts off untill it fixes it's self.

Ocassionaly the whole audio driver will crash, afterwards I would have to restart my pc to fix it,but after I reboot,my audio driver has uninstalled it's self from my pc and I have no sound or mic at all. Then of course I just have to download and install the realtek hd audio driver.Sadly after the sound driver finishes installing and I reboot my pc there still isn't any sound so I just have to repeat the process until the sound is running again. And finally, everything is back to normal no problems same as always, but it's just a matter of time when it will cut off again so the cycle repeats.
(It can't be from my headphones(Razer Tiamat 2.2) because I tested them on a different pc and they were running perfectly)

Is it a problem with my motherboard's sound card?Because I have reinstalled my windows operating system once and this issue still occurs.

I have been trying to get my sound card (Creative X-FI SB0460) to work under windows 7 x64, i have followed both a standard method of installation and the "Have disk" installation both failed, the "have disk" method reports it found driver but encountered an error then, fails with a "code 10" error, "the device cannot start".

It has identified my device as "creative x-fi audio processor(WDM)" rather than just "multimedia audio device", but not installed and drivers.

I have followed others advice in these forums but still cannot get it working, if this is a "terminal" issue and cannot be resolved can you please suggest alternatives sound cards for under $60/?30 please.

Also, why do manufactorers continue to do this? drivers have been a particular issue with the increase in componenets being released, but why does microsoft not kick up a fuss about the issue of driver compatability..... just seems to make microsoft and (creative etc) look incompetant and a lack of willingness to suport legacy and bespoke devices. why isnt this dealt with under windows update?

It also continues to inflate the ego's of all the apple products which just seem to work with new hardware.

Answer:Creative Sound card driver issue

First, your logic is flawed. It's not Microsoft's responsibility to work with whatever hardware, it's the hardware vendor's responsibility to work with the Operating System. Microsoft gives vendors years to bring their hardware and drivers up to be compatible with new technology systems. At one time Microsoft designed their Operating Systems to be backward compatible with old hardware/software. That is no longer the case.

"It has identified my device as "creative x-fi audio processor(WDM)" rather than just "multimedia audio device". That is the correct identification. The multimedia audio device is only part of the overal sound drivers.

In reference to Apple, they control both the hardware and Operating System thus it better work. However, with the number of problems posted about Mac's that I see on some other forums, I have to conclude the "apple works better" is a myth.

Back to your Xfi problem. Since it's being properly identified, it's back to the Creative drivers. Make sure you are using the correct OS drivers. Normally, Vista drivers will work with Windows 7 but I've seen Creative Xfi devices that must have Windows 7 specific drivers and if there are no Win 7 specific drivers it's time to find a new sound card.

I have upgraded my Satellite 2800-400 to XP-SP2 and my sound card driver does aperently not work with SP2. I have downloaded the latest driver that I can find and that is from 2002, but this driver does not work together with the program Skype. I get a massage that the sound card driver does not suport SP2.
How can I solve this problem without deleting the SP2 upgrade.

Answer:Satellite 2800-400 sound card driver problem with XP-SP2

The unit was delivered with this sound card:
Yamaha YMF754 FM synthesizer, MPU401 MIDI; SB-Pro compatible

You can try to check other notebooks with the same sound card for the newer sound card driver or you visit the manufacturer?s website and search there for the new release on this driver.

Hi all,
I'm about to get REALLY crazy!! I'd really appreciate if anyone can help me..

My story is:
I've lost all my recovery&driver CDs that were given to me in 2004 . But, I had to format my pc at this weekend due to many system reasons(bugs, unable to connect to net, etc).
My first step was I downloaded all kind of drivers for Satellite A30 from Toshiba site. And I got XP professional SP2 from my friend and installed it. But after finishing all the installations below is the result:

1) NO SOUND :(

2) Question marks on 2 items that are a)Multimedia Sound Controller and b)PCI Modem in Device Manager/Other Devices.

3) Chipset installation error message: Intel(R) Chipset installation utility requires chipset platform supported by the supporting operating system. Please read system requirements section in readme.txt for further info.
As far as I checked in forums my chipset was not properly installed, but, when I try yo install the Intel chipset 895PE ( that I downloaded from download address, it gives error message and some people tells to install drivers in a right order as, first install XP with SP1 and then install chipset utilitt, then install SP2 etc..But this seems to be not easy for me..

I can really repeat my FORMAT process again, but in which order..

Answer:Satellite A30: Sound card & Chipset driver problem.

Just to inform you that my problem was solved by itself :)
I've reformatted my laptop and installed the original XP Pro SP2 again by following the instructions.

Sound problem was solved automatically, no chipset utility installation required..
The sound problem was probably caused due to missing Microsoft KB835221 update for SP1, and KB888111 for SP2, which then was solved with the original latest XP..

Hi guys.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite P100-195 about two weeks ago and ever since I've been having a problem with my sound card that i don't seem to be able to overcome. Everytime i increase/decrease the sound volume (either in audio icon in the system tray or the in control panel) I get a strong beep after I loose the mouse button.

The sound seems to work well but the beep is gets louder everytime I increase the volume and is really annoying. I also noticed that whenever I finish a video/audio conversion in Canopus Procoder 2 I get the same beep even though the files converted are alright and play well. My Satellite P100-195 has a Portuguese Windows Professional MCE.

The beep feels like a BIOS one and not an OS one.
I already reinstalled the audio driver.
Can anyone help me with this?

Jose Felix

Answer:Satellite P100-195 sound card issue - strong beep

Does this strong beep appear on a fresh installing OS form the Toshiba recovery CD?

The second possibility is that your OS has set this strong beep as a program event.
Go to the ?sound and audio devices? and select the tab ?sound?.

There you can check all your sounds which are set to different program events.

So this is little tutorial for Toshiba Satellite P300 laptops who have problems with surround:

1. Open device manager (if you don't now where is, go to help centre, and type device manager) [Picture|]
2.Go to line with Sound.... uninstall your driver (that will take few moments)
3.Go to this site (and type your laptop information, driver type: sound driver)

Hi Guys,

I got Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100, SP2100, Model No:PS210E-005ES-EN,
This laptop supposed to be designed for windows XP as the manual says, ok.
I am facing now two different issues have to solve them individually.

First one's the audio, after formatting installing a fresh copy of windows XP Pro, installing all the drivers from Toshiba , all of them're 2008 drivers, selected according to the model no, every driver installed fine except the one for yamaha ac-xg wdm.

Every time i try to install i only get "driver not installed" in the end, tried loads of other drivers designed for ac-xg wdm. No success, when i go to the device manager i only see "unknown device" which's the sound card i guess....
Bios also updated to the latest version...

The other issue is the laptop fails to send signal to screen; sometimes completely dead except the front green light.
Also i noticed that when switched off the battery green light remains on but slightly dim....have to remove battery, plug and unplug from power to get it functioning........processor reseated, pasted with the heat sink white stuff, no clog......etc..

Wishing you all merry Xmas.....

Answer:Satellite Pro 2100 : Yamaha sound driver issue & screen is black sometimes

forgot to say that i also tried to point it to the diver manually, installation goes fine then asking for yacxgc.sys.
Although this file is available in the Cat folder downloaded with the driver from toshiba but not accepted, when pointing the file does't show to select....

I have a toshiba A100-095 with nvidia geforce go7300. I use my pc to develop application in .net, today after some hours i put the laptop in standbymode, when I resume the system, windows vista told me that video drivers caused problems and were reverted to original version. I really do not know what's happened, so I went to toshiba site, download the latest driver for my laptop but when I try to install them I receive an error telling me

"Your system is not windows vista, this version of driver is made to work only with vindows vista, etc etc etc"

I try for a copule of times, same error, I reboot the system and now the driver install fine, but my system is little instable, sometimes, after some hours of work when I do right click on folder I do not see cut and paste option, and soon after the explorer.exe chrashes. I ve italian operationg system since I bought my laptop in italy.

Any clue on what is happening?

You are right. This is really strange and I?m also not 100% sure what could happen.
In my opinion there could be something wrong with the system files and /or the registry entries?
I don?t know how difficult is to reinstall the OS on your notebook (because of the backup) but it?s really, really interesting if the same would happen after installation of ?clean? Vista?

I have a problem with driver for my internal card reader on my laptop ( Toshiba A300-15J ) and I'm using system Vista x64.
I'm really lost, just tried to add, install almost every possibble driver from many other copanies so I'm looking for help here.

If someone have also this problem or have solved this problem, please give me a link or advice how to get this device working on Vista x64.

Answer:Satellite A300-15J: Vista x64 Card reader driver issue

Seems the Vista 64 bit drivers are no available for this new Satellite A300-15J PSAJ4E series.

But as far as I know the notebook supports a common Multiple Digital Media Card reader which was built-in in another notebook series.
So why you don?t try some 64bit Vista Card Reader Controller driver published fro i.e Satellite A210 or another series.

I would recommend testing some drivers?

Good luck

As concerning a dead pixel, you can read here about it

It's for Lcd Monitor but also can be applied for laptop's display

I have no sound now on the laptop. I made sure all the sound was NOT muted. I removed and reinstalled the sound driver and I still have no sound either on the internal laptop speakers or on external computer speakers hooked to the laptop.

In my search to try and resolve this problem I read something about an update from Microsoft for Vista that had caused others to loose sound on their computers. When I tried to find this again I could not locate what I had been reading.

The laptop is just over 2 years old and has beed running great till this happened

Device Manager is showing: Conexant High Definition SmartAudio HD2 as the item under Sound, video and game controller.

Any help on this problem would greatly be appreciated so I can get this unit back to the lady who is using it. Thanks.

My laptop was working fine.

I took it to a friend's place so that she could plug in to it some speakers that she bought for a party. She plugs them in and they don't work. Now my speakers on the laptop don't work either, nor do the external speakers of my own that I was previously using. I don't know anything about this, but through internet "research", I decided to download new drivers.

This did nothing. Because I'm impulsive, I reformatted my computer. Still nothing. I had given up hope but just a few minutes ago, my laptop gave off a high pitched beeping noise, leading me to believe there may still be a chance. Everything looks fine to me, a layperson. When I open up the sound icon thing, there is a little green bar bouncing up and down, which I think is good.

Any help?

Answer:No Sound with Toshiba Satellite

I would like to know which notebook model do you have. Is this older notebook model?

Following your impulsive reaction you have done good thing. If you have installed OS using Toshiba recovery CD/DVD everything should work properly with ?factory settings?. Of course if there is no hardware malfunction.

Please check one more time in device manager if sound card is installed properly.
Test it again with headset. Be also sure option MUTE is disabled (FN+ESC). Check volume control dial. Maybe is set to minimum level.

Please post the results.

I have a Toshiba satellite s855-044 and am having issues with the power. I have looked up on countless forums and have been able to find people with similar issues but not the same. Basically the issue is that it will not turn on sometimes and wont show any symptoms of having power. Here is what i know about it:
1. The issue only comes up when i power off the laptop while it is unplugged.
2. None of the power indicators on the front light up, however when you look at it in a pitch black room it is VERY faintly blinking (indicator for when it is plugged in)
3. It turns back on usually after 10 or so hours of messing around with it. (Pulling plug out and putting it back in. Checking connections inside, etc.)
4. I have 2 batteries as well as 2 power adapters (chargers), trying different combinations of them do not seem to make a difference.
5. I have tried the method of unplugging and removing battery and holding the power button for around a minute, no results from that method.

If anybody could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone, I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6114 running XP. For the year that I've had it it has run great.  As of lately I haven't been able to use a CD in the DVD-R drive.  The CD tray opens, I put a CD into it, it tries to read it( I see the light turn on and hear the cd spin) but it just stops and won't recognize it.  I try to open it in "My Computer" but it just prompts me to insert a cd into the drive.  I don't know what happened in the past month to make this happen.  The catch is this.....  It will play a DVD just fine.  It recognizes it and plays it right away.  I updated the driver and even deleted the driver and started fresh.  Nothing worked. Has anyone ever heard of this?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Hello everyone,
I am having some trouble when I try to install the toshiba driver for the printer I got at work. The printer is a Toshiba e-STUDIO3555C so I downloaded the PCL/PS driver HERE as I got a X64 W8.1.
However whenever I try to install it I got an error during the installation "The Arguments are invalid".
You can find the installation log attached.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer:Toshiba Driver Issue

I took your printer model number and googled my way to the Toshiba site where there seems to be a 'universal' driver for this printer. To be exact 'Universal driver'. Have you tried this driver ?
I will admit the site is somewhat confusing, and I am not certain that the above is the correct driver, but that is the one clicking on 'colour' and the model number comes up with even though it has the word 'Monochrome' above it.
Might be worth trying.

Hi, Folks - I'm New, here...

I recently bought a new Toshiba Satellite P105 pre-loaded with Vista.

We use a proprietary system at work that connects through a VPN and our server would not acknowledge Vista, so I immediately re-formatted and loaded XP Pro.

I managed to get all of my drivers for every device except sound. The PC has a Toshiba V92 modem connected to a high-def audio bus with Harmon Kardon speakers.

I can't seem to find the correct drivers for my sound.

Anyone else experienced this? Any help in solving my delimma?

I've spent hours at Toshiba's support site.

Answer:Sound Problem- Toshiba Satellite

Hi, Dave, and welcome to TSF!

Have you tried using a generic driver? Go into device manager and see if your audio chipset shows up there with a yellow ! next to it. If it does, run the add new hardware wizard and have it select a driver for it automatically.

I have moved you to Windows XP support.

2nd. when the screen does work, the laptop gets stuck at the motherboard logo screen and does not move from there.....unless..... you hit it.

whats wrong with the dumb thing? anybody help?

oh and like the thing is, it does function, the screen does turn on and the motherboard logo screen does change but u have to really hit it a few times..... other wise it freezes or the screen wont turn on.... ive ran linux off of a live cd on it so i know for a fact im right.

It is time to have the laptop serviced by a qualified technician, or to buy a new laptop. If you are familiar with removing memory or hard drive, you can try reseating them. The video cable from the LCD panel to the motherboard may be pinched or loose

So, the problem started when my dad told me various recharge lights would not come one. Low and behold after opening it up I noticed the Power Pin within the DC housing was not there, in fact it dropped directly into my hand while I was opening it... So after a great deal of experimentation in trying to fix it... I have given up, if I jiggle it for a little while the lights will come on for a second... Please look at diagram for what I believe is accurate~

The connector just behind the housing... is that a ground? my limited knowledge on, on-board circuitry prevents me from repairing this myself.

if you can visually seek the break, then you know where it should connect in order to repair it. You need not know the polarity. But I don't recommend repairing this yourself unless you are good with a soldering iron. Take it to a shop.

This problem prevents us from working. It has nothing to do with the mouse (we tried several) or with docking station because it happens without the docking station.

I've been working on a friends A200-AHC308. It had a few viruses and was currently running XP, so I decided to reformat to XP-SP3. Prior to the reformat I attempted to back up all of his files to a USB flash drive, although the computer had problems recognizing the USB. I figured that the problem may have had something to do with a faulty driver installation so ignored it and continued with the format, having backed up his files on a DVD. After the reformat I am still having the same issue. All drivers are installed properly and nothing in Device Manager is popping up with a question mark. What happens is this: I plug the media in (whether it be an external HDD or a flashdrive) and the computer goes through its device wizard. It does one of two things:
Says the device was installed successfully although when attempting to access it through My Computer the drive does not load (it is present, although when attempting to open it I have no luck).
Says the device is not compatible.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 USB Issue

If you have a second USB flash drive available, plug it into the Toshiba and see if you can read from/write to it.

If you can, it's likely the drive you backed the data up on is either going bad or was corrupted by the virus(es). If this is the case, any attempt at recovering the data should be done with extreme caution. If inserted into and accessed from another PC there is a good chance it will infect it. Go to the virus and malware section of the board for specific scanning and cleaning tips for the drive before you attempt to open or transfer any data from it.

If the second (clean) USB drive doesn't work, reboot the PC with the USB drive removed and try again. If it still fails, go to and download the Beta version of Microsoft's Fix-It Tool. XP SP3 had a few bugs; this tool fixes many of them.

Hope this helps.

Hello everyone. Nowadays, I see on this forum people are discussing about the CD/DVD issues on L30/L300/L350. I would like to share my experience on this issue and hope everyone shares your experience as well.

My laptop are Toshiba L30 PSL33 and Toshiba L300 PSLB2E. I am lucky that I have no problem with CD/DVD discs/drives as I can read/write/play CD/DVD smoothly. However, I used to have some problems with CD/DVD drive on my notebook. Here is my experience.

1) Make sure there is no other CD/DVD softwares on your computer (except the orginal software from Toshiba). Especially to those who have been used to using Nero. If you have problems, try to remove Nero and test with the one supported by Windows

2) If you still have problems, try to update the firmware of the DVD drive. It can be done by visiting the Toshiba Support Driver site ( Check what drive you have by looking at the Device Manager. Download the newest firmware from there and update your drive.

3) My last solution. If you have Vista pre-installed, try to get a XP version on your computer and do not install any other software. Test/copy a CD by using windows writing tool to see whether the problem is solved or not.

In my opinion. the main reasons you may encournter are: there are CD/DVD drives have XP firmware base and need to be updated so that they can be used in Vista; or there are software like Nero and PowerDVD are causing the conflict between the ACPI con... Read more

I bought this new, obviously some years ago.
XP Home and all original hardware.
Gave it to my sister about 4 years ago to run to run scientific apps that won't run on anything newer than XP.
In her possession, It was not used on a network---no internet at all.

It's screen went blank but the lights on the front of the case showed it loading/booting up.
So I attached it to an old CRT monitor. As the computer booted the screen filled with a few hundred colored vertical lines but finalized with the regular background, but no icons or start menu. Right clicking on it did nothing.

So I booted to an Acronis Boot disk and installed a known drive image I made 4 years ago that I knew was good. Same issue.

I then installed the factory image from my Toshiba Install disk and, with the CRT attached, it boots up normally with no apparent issues.

I still need to check the wiring connections of the laptop monitor but at least it's still useful with the external monitor.

I'd like to hand this back to my sister with confidence as she uses it at home to do scientific data analysis for her employer.
Any thoughts on what this issue might be, have been?
SysInfo to follow.

On 60-75% of boot attempts the result is an error meesage indicating the driver for the onboard ATI display adapater could not start correctly and that the system will restart. On this second reboot the system invariably starts normally.
Any ideas on what could be the issue? Does this machine require a BIOS update?.. or perhaps it is an issue brought on by the patching of the preinstalled XP home with service pack2.

Any ideas gratefully recieved

I have a toshiba Satellite L855-10P and my webcam was working fine until today when, during a skype video conference, it started showing black lines a bit like static and the quality decreased significantly. I used the webcam application to check if it wasn't an internet issue and the same problem occurred.

I restarted the computer and removed the protective plastic from the webcam and nothing changed. It's a brand new laptop, it's only 2 months old. Is there anything I can do to find out the nature of this problem or should I just go ahead and use the warranty?

**Edit: I changed the quality to 1280*700 and the image had great quality but when I changed it to anything lower than that quality the static came back.

Ive had this laptop for a while and it works fine, slower over time of course, but i maintain it well....I have come across an issue. Whenever i browse the internet, its reaalllly slow. Some sites work fine ( such as google or gamespot) but i cant search anything, it takes too long to load. Hotmail doesnt even come up, it jus loads and loads and loads...Ive had a virus and a trojan on my comp, scanned with 4 different programs and got rid of all the bad stuff on there...Seems to be clean, but still having the same issue. Thanks in advance for any advice or ideas

Opened my daughter's laptop this morning and it seems like the LCD has "dissolved" in the left bottom of the screen. There's no identation on the screen or any sign of damage. The liquid crystal just seemed "smeared" or something in the corner. Any thoughts? I'm not a technie so sorry if I don't know all the terminology... I purchased this for her for Christmas at Office Depot so it's only a few months old. Please help! Thanks mucho!

Answer:Issue with Toshiba Satellite Screen

The LCD screen could have been damaged by placing a heavy object on the top of the closed laptop or by bumping or dropping. It doesn't take much... The LCD panel might be under warranty. Its worth checking into. Otherwise, it is expensive to replace. They cannot be repaired

good day to all!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L40-1800 with model No. PSL4CE-00H00GAR. Recently i just reformat my laptop due to window malfunction. The problem is I don't have the CD driver installer, through a friend he helped me find the drivers through the internet except for the display adapters. Please help me find this drivers for the standard VGA Graphics Adapter and Video Controller. Thanks.

I also have a problem with my other laptop its a IBM R50e model this one is totally damaged i guess. I looked everywhere and asked everyone i know to fix its problem but most of them told me that its a hard drive problem since its an obsolete model i can't find a hard drive that could replace it. Every time i open the laptop a message "ERROR, 0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0, Press <F1> to Setup" appears. what could this mean? Is it really about the hard drive?

Thanks. Hope you could help me.

As this laptop is old and not seemingly on Toshiba's support and download site could you run the below as written and attach the log?

Download and install Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post Click to expand...

Inherited a TOSHIBA SATELLITE laptop computer (2008 vintage) from my daughter. It had VISTA on it and an old version of IE. Would not update IE saying it was 'not computable with OS'. So I installed w-7 allowing the 'C' system partition to be overwritten; then installed SP-1 update. Works fine now, except I need to update the touchpad driver. Synaptics was original driver but was erased on the w-7 install. Tried to see if the available download for VISTA from Synaptics might work but it will not install.
The touchpad as it functions from the W-7/SP-1 is pretty sad in my way of thinking. Is there a program or driver I might install to improve it to something similar to as-it-was or maybe better?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite touchpad driver?

Have you tried here?

In the past (Win7) Toshiba has offered Webcam driver and webcam application. Since Win8 Toshiba doesn't offer such drivers and application. Webcam on Win8 uses standard Microsoft driver.

So gfs computer was so bloated down with **** that it was un repairable so I just wiped it. After reinstalling windows I cant seem to get the graphics driver to install. I go to the Toshiba website download the driver and install it but at 100% the install page vanishes, check the device manager and it just reads "standard vga" restarted after wards and still nothing. I'm trying to run the final fantasy xiv bench mark and keep getting a "directx has encountered a fatal error: 10000000x" assuming the graphics driver is the problem. Any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba satellite driver issues

What model of toshiba laptop is it? You may want to try manually installing the graphics drivers.

I got a RAM upgrade for my laptop 2 weeks ago. I got 2 Kingston 2GB RAM sticks. A few hours after installing the RAM, my laptop would begin to crash after restarting, sometimes as soon as 5 seconds upon startup. After some trial and error, I found that one of the sticks was faulty and sent it back. The next day, my audio died suddenly while in use, but worked after restarting the laptop. This happened again the next 2 days. The fourth day, the audio outright died. The most I got was a low thumping upon startup. I tried updating my drivers and the only thing that "upgraded" was the fact that now I got a constant high-pitched noise through my speakers. It was constant and continued even after plugging in headphone and muting the volume. The only way I found to stop it was to disable the High Definition Audio Controller, though I have to "enable" then "disable" it whenever I power on my laptop.
The only other problem with my laptop lately is I seem to have a slight lag online (skipping youtube videos and such). I have connected my latop online on multiple servers, so I know it is coming from my laptop. I don't know if my soundcard/chip/whatever I have inside is fried, burnt or loose as I'm more of a software person then hardware.

I have a Toshiba satellite L655-S5150 and i have all the cables that the guys at best buy told me to get. I hooked them up but i still cant hear any sound. I had to hook a cable up from my headphone port to the back of the tv but still no sound. I am not to computer savvy so i hope this info helps.

Answer:cant hear any sound when i hook my toshiba satellite up to my tv

Apparently you do not have an HDMI interface, since you are connecting sound separately. First thing to do is check the connections to the TV (assuming you have the right cables) and then the setup for the TV for the inputs you have connected.

Exactly what did you get from Best Buy?

Hello. This laptop has been upgraded to Windows 10. The audio does not work, it shows a red circle with white X and says no speakers or headphones are plugged in.

I was wondering if you could point me to an working driver for this.

Thank you!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L650 11C sound issues

We would need the actual product number, or better yet, the serial number. The Toshiba Satellite L650 may have a product number like this: PSK1JA-0ED017. Without it, or the Serial number, we have no idea which sound card you have to be able to look up the driver or compatibility.
The alternative of course, is to go direct to the support page, enter the serial number and select the correct driver.

My google phone in google email says it cannot detect a proper working audio setup but the sound throughout the rest of the computer works just fine. One day it was fine and when I went back to it the next day my sound on the phone had disappeared for no reason I can find. It tells me to ensure that my microphone is working properly and try again. The phone sound in my Skype doesn't work either but the sound is fine everywhere but in the phones...If anyone can steer me in the right direction I would very much appreciate it.

Only have sound on one side (right) either through built in speakers or headphone jack. Have disassembled it to see if anything was lose, disconnected, etc. Found no problems. Disconnected/reconnected the ribbon wire leading from the sound portion to the MB just for giggles. Still the same. Ideas?

I asked an irishman if the irish always answer a question with a question. He answered "who told you that"?
