Satellite L500-1CQ PSLS0E - CD/DVD drive does not work - Driver problem?

Question: Satellite L500-1CQ PSLS0E - CD/DVD drive does not work - Driver problem?

My DVD player is not working.

There is power to it. The motor fires up when I eject and reinsert it. The Control Panel Troubleshooting for Hardware and Devices says it is a driver problem but cannot fix it. Problem with driver.

I have reinstalled it from Toshiba site.
Is it saving to the correct place?
I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit and chose the correct driver for this.

Should I be using the 64bit?
I only have 3MB RAM which was the spec when bought.

If I wanted to change to the 32bit how do you do it without the CD/DVD player?
Is there any point in doing this?

Preferred Solution: Satellite L500-1CQ PSLS0E - CD/DVD drive does not work - Driver problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500-1CQ PSLS0E - CD/DVD drive does not work - Driver problem?

To be honest I?m a little bit confused.
Are you not able to boot from ANY disks; Windows disk, recover disk, Linux disk???

If it?s the case, then this means that you CD/DVD drive is faulty.
Why? Because CD/DVD drive is recognized and controlled by BIOS while booting from CD or DVD.

When Windows operating system has booted up, then the CD/DVD drive should use the common Microsoft driver which is a part of the Windows OS.
This means that you don?t need to install ANY drivers in order to get the CD/DVD working.

If you can boot from any disk but if the CD/DVD drive is not recognized in MY Computer, then I recommend checking this:

Before you would delete the upper and lower filters from the registry, delete the CD/DVD drive from device manager and then go to registry and remove filters. Then reboot the unit.

Good luck

Now I have wanted to connect my Laptop to my TV again (I have done this before by using an HDMI cable and FN+F5, however not anymore.) but now for the first time I have noticed that the FN key does NOT bring up the menu it used to bring up when I pressed it before and I have no idea what is causing this.

I have tried using google ect to find a solution and the thing I noticed is that when I go in Start>All Programs>TOSHIBA>Utilities other people seem to have "Flash Cards" and "Flash Cards - Setting" now all I have is Flash Card Help, Restart Flash Cards and Settings for Flash Cards. I am just saying this to see if this has to do with the problem anyways moving on.

I would like to know how to fix this problem I already tried to install the Value Added Package but it did not help at all and this problem was probably caused due to me fiddling around with my laptop. Thanks in advance.

Toshiba Satellite L500 (Part Number thingy: PSLS0E) Windows 7 64 bit.

Answer:Satellite L500 PSLS0E - FN Menu doesn't work

Hmmmm..... Usually Toshiba Value Added package reinstallation schould help.

Try please one more time to remove VAP from the system, restart your notebook and install latest version from Toshiba download page.

I wanted to install a new Windows 7 (no recovery) but the hard disk wasn't found during the installation. In the boot menue on the contrary I can find the disk. So what I need is a driver. But I have no clue where to get one! Can someone help?

Maybe stupid question now but do you use original Microsoft Win7 installation disc?

I have installed Win7 on several different Toshiba notebooks (older and newer) and HDD was ?visible? every time. I have removed existing partitions, created new one and installed Win7 on it successfully.

Would a sata2 ssd drive work with my Toshiba Satellite L500 - 11d

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Would SATA2 SSD drive work with Satellite L500-11d

I don?t see any serious reasons why this should not work.
The HDD controller is SATA capable and the SATA2 is down compatible which means that you can use SATA 2 HDD or SSD drives as well.

Please post some information after the SSD upgrade. It would be interesting to know how the notebook would run using SSD drive

Just bought Satellite L500/01K upgraded to window 7 (32 bit).
Only Fn (F6 F7) key don't work.

Tried to uninstall TVAP and Toshiba flashcards support utility and reintall them, restart the computer and still don't work.
The Toshiba ECO mode utility also don't work but i think this could be because the screen brightness can't be adjusted.

Could anyone help on this matter. Thanks

Answer:Satellite L500/01K - Fn (F6 & F7) don't work

That means all FN keys work without the FN keys for screen brightness control?

It would be interesting to know which versions of TVAP and Flash Cards Support Utility you have used for reinstalling. On Windows 7 you need the newest versions as far as I know, both must be released for Windows 7.
Check this!!!

If you reinstall the applications, remove all old versions first. Restart your notebook and then install TVAP firstly. After one more restart you can install Flash Cards Support Utility and all FN keys should start work.

Last but not least ECO mode utility should also be reinstalled. ;)

Answer:New keyboard does not work on Satellite L500-13W

What happened with the notebook exactly?
Did you spill some kind of fluid on the keyboard maybe??

The keyboard is connected to the motherboard with an flat cable?
If the keyboard controller on the motherboard has not been damaged, then new keyboard should work

Hi all,

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 64-bit on my *Toshiba Satellite L500/050* which had the same system earlier.

But somehow I managed to mess up my backup partition and I had to try and reinstall all the drivers from the internet but the problem is it is giving weird results.

For the first part the Fn key does not work even after I installed and reinstalled TVAP countless times and the other thing is that my LCD brightness increases when I decrease it and vice versa. (0% had highest brightness 100% has lowest, when brightness is dimmed by the computer it actually increases).

There may be other such problems I don't know for sure now but I think my laptop is not running as well as it used to.
Can anyone give the list or step by step instructions on how to uninstall and install all my drivers for this.

Thanking you inadvance.

Answer:Re: Satellite L500/050 - FN buttons don't work

It seems that your notebook model belongs to Toshiba Australian series.
Please check this Toshiba Australia driver page:

Here you can find the necessary driver for FN button.

As far as I know you need to install the VAP (value added package) and the Flash Card Support Utility.

Hi everyone

I have this model for about 3 yrs now.

It stopped working and its not AC problem since I checked with a new one as well..
Although there IS a green light when connected to the mains. Battery doesnt charge as well.

Shall I say it goodbye? ;(

Answer:Satellite L500-1R1 doesnt work on AC

Did you check the RAM modules?
Faulty RAM would prevent the notebook from booting up.

Since its very easy to replace the RAM modules, I would recommend trying this out.
Otherwise it might be a serious motherboard problem and I guess in such case the notebook repair might be very costly affair.

Just got one of the new core I3 powered Satellite with Windows 7 64bit OS. All seems fine and I'm impressed with the machine but the Fn keys do not work.

I went back to the shop and tried the display model which was OK. Before I phone up Toshiba helpdesk (I so don't want to be sent round in circles by a foreign call-centre operator working from a script) is there a simple answer to this?

Answer:Satellite L500-1XC - FN keys don't work

Hi nixi,

I had the same problem on my Satellite L500. I have a little bit searched here and did the following steps

1) Download newest Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility.
2) Remove the old versions of both Toshiba tools and restart your notebook
3) Use CCleaner to remove still existing keys in registry and restart again
4) Install VAP firstly and then Flash Cards Support Utility. Make the last restart.

Normally the FN keys should start working again. Can you confirm this?

Hi All!

I have noticed that Intel have released new drivers for their 4500MHD graphic card, however, the one's released on Toshiba's site for my Satellite L500-1KK are older and are never updated as frequently as those released on Intel's site, my questions are:

1. Is it safe to use the new drivers from Intel for their chipset or should I stick to the ones released by Toshiba?
2. What possible differences are there between these Intel drivers and Toshiba's? ?:|

Thanks all!

Yes, you can use intel chipset drivers and shouldn't be worry :)

I have an L500 -1PU Toshiba, running on 32 bit Windows 7,
The webcam is working wonderfully but the internal microphone is not working properly.

I had an external microphone so i hadn't noticed this problem when i got on skype, but i've recently discovered that when using the webcam the person on the other end can hear faint noises from my computer when i'm playing music or watching a video clip.

How can i solve this and get my microphone working properly such that i can control the volume and actually get full service from my otherwise decent notebook?

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro L500-1PU - internal microphone does not work

Possibly this Toshiba FAQ could help you:

+Whistling sound on the Satellite L500+

It?s a matter of the settings.
This issue occurs if the microphone volume in the speakers properties is enabled.
After disabling this point the issue with acoustic feedback does not appear anymore.

Hope this helps!

Sorry mate but I really don?t understand your issue?
The WLan card which is installed on your notebook is fully compatible with Win 7 and the drivers can be found on the Toshiba WLan portal.

If you are talking about an 3rd party modem, then I have to say that your are wrong here? if you have problems with any 3rd party devices then you should get in contact with the manufacturer? in your case with the modem manufacturer?

try to install the value added package 1.2.28 from the driver DVD (delivered with my laptop and newer as the driver on toshibas website).
The installtion works well and after the reboot the hotkey doesn't work.
Even I try the older driver from the website 1.2.25 it doesn't work also.

After this I try to install a part of the driver. I find this comment:

+For using the FN keys you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards supports utility. Make sure that both versions are released for Windows 7 64bit already. If you choose a Vista version it will not work!+

+Here you can download all:+
+ > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers+

+Value Added Package must be installed firstly. ;)+

But the flash cards utility is a part of the value added package and I was not able to deactivate the flash cards utility under Windows 7 32bit.
This utility seem to be used for other utilities.

Has someone a solution to activate the hotkeys?

Answer:Satellite L500 FN buttons don't work using Win 7 32bit

> But the flash cards utility is a part of the value added package and I was not able to deactivate the flash cards utility under Windows 7 32bit.

There are two applications which can be downloaded:
*Value Added Package v1.2.34* and *Flash Cards supports utility v1.63.0.4*

Please install both applications again!

If both were already installed, then remove it from the system firstly and after new reboot install the both drivers again.

Let's try to find out what can be the cause by checking general behaviour:

- Pressing FN only should partly light up a small lamp on the keyboard AND if TVAP was installed with basic configuration should also put some images in the top of your screen. Please explain what happens in your case concerning the lamp and the visual feedback on the screen when pressing and holding the FN button only.

- Pressing i.e. FN + F5 should give You a possibility to switch between display outputs which is visualized on the display with some nice pictures. Let us know what happens when You do this please.

Now I am with Windows 7 32 bit OS, and I noticed that some of the shortcuts - espacially the "fn-F8" - for switching on and off the wireless adapter and "fn-F9" for toggling between mouse and touchpad input don't work. After I press FN-F8 the wireless adapter is still working and the indicator still lights. After pressing FN-F9 the system keeps on receiving input from both mouse and touchpad.

Am I missing some driver?

Check the Toshiba website where you can find both tools! :)

newbie here, pleased to meet you all.
I have been given a Toshiba L500 19X that has a problem, the keyboard does not work, at all.

This happened after a liquid spill, or so I'm told.
I have sorted out a few laptops that have been subjected to liquids, but this one is different.
In this case the laptop is working brilliantly, not a problem except for the keyboard not working.

I have attached a external usb k/b and it works perfectly. I have stripped the laptop down to the mobo and there is no evidence of a liquid spill.
I use a large magnifying glass to inspect the board, usually find something jumping out, but not in this case.

Regardless I have cleaned the mobo and all looks well. But the k/b will not work at all.
I have come to the conclusion that the problem MIGHT be a bodged bios update, or corrupted.

I have d/loaded the latest Bios, 2.10 win, but when I go to install it I am told that the current bios is equal to or newer than the one I've d/loaded and flash will not go ahead.

I come here cap in hand, for help if possible, and to see if anyone has had the same problem.
Possibly point me in the right direction.

The bad news would be that there is a problem with the motherboard.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Answer:Satellite L500-19X does not work after spilling liquid

> In this case the laptop is working brilliantly, not a problem except for the keyboard not working.
>I have attached a external usb k/b and it works perfectly

So you got a big luck? looks like the motherboard is ok and the keyboard controller works too.
Why should be this a BIOS issue? The notebook worked perfectly in the past?
So in my opinion you should contact the authorized service point in your country and should replace the keyboard.
In my personal opinion its internal keyboard problem

I have Vista L500 with a dead keyboard. This machine has not been dropped or had anything spilled on it. I have plugged in external USB keyboard which works. The laptop keyboard does not. I have flashed BIOS, updated drivers, held shift key for 10 sec (read on another forum), reset computer, checked Windows Vista updates and ran 3 Virus checks.
Everything is perfect, just no Keyboard?

What else should I check? Could it be a motherboard problem?

Thanks for any help given :)

Can you enter the BIOS (F2 key) with internal keyboard?
If not the internal keyboard seems to be defective and needs replacing?

I don?t think you can do more. I mean you tried everything what is possible and if an external keyboard works the OS installation should be ok.

The keyboard can be ordered and replaced from an authorized service provider. Do you know how to contact the guys?

The Satellite L500 doesn?t support Windows XP so you have to search on external websites for drivers.

In your case I would search on the manufactures website of the sound chip. Normally there you can also download the sound driver.

And don?t forget to install SP3 before you install the sound driver. SP3 contains 2 Hotfixes for High Definition Audio cards and you will need it!!!

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 with WXP: reinstalling driver

If uninstalling and reinstalling those drivers doesn't work then the next step is to do a System Restore to restore the registry back to a previous date.

If that doesn't work, then Windows may be corrupted beyond repair. You may need to backup your important data and run Recovery to restore Windows back to it's factory state.

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-22R with a ATI Mobiliti Radeon HD 5145.

I want to install new drivers for my card, but Toshiba doesn?t upgrade the driver since 2009 (version 8.653.0.0) and the oficial driver version for ATI is 13.1. The problem is that i can install from AMD page because there is a compatibility problem with hardware.

Someone can help me? I want to upgrade my driver version and i can?t understand this situation.

Answer:Satellite L500-22R - ATI driver upgrade

Here is a AMD page providing this info:

+The following notebooks *are not compatible* with this release:+
+? Any notebook launched after this driver release+
+? Toshiba notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)+
+? Sony VAIO notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)+
+? Panasonic notebooks (please contact the notebook OEM for driver support for these notebooks)+

In some cases its possible to install such driver but you will have to do that manually from device manager. There you have to click on graphic card, have to choose the Advanced installation procedure which helps you to point to the driver folder which you downloaded from the AMD page. The driver folder should contain dll and ini files. Such files are needed for driver update.

I have tried many different mice. The wheel button brings up a display of all the programs I have open (Windows 7) but moving the wheel does nothing. I'm currently using a Microsoft cordless mouse but I have tried it with corded mice as well. Nothing seems to work.

Answer:Satellite L500 - Mouse Scroll doesn't work

That?s really strange.
Have you maybe installed some application that you got with this Microsoft mouse?

I have two notebooks and two external devices. One is Logitech and the second one some cheap no name mouse and both were recognized properly on preinstalled Win7.

Hi there,

i recently acquired this laptop, and i installed win7 64 bits prof. The first problem was that wireless card was not installed, but i go to toshib website and downloaded the new one, next to that i can't activate the card with the fn + f8 key, thats the only way to activate the card,

i already downloaded some drivers and utilities and i can't activate the card, the hotkey don't work and there's not another switch, software won't work either

Any help will be welcome

Answer:Satellite L500-13W: How to switch on Wlan with Win 7 - hotkeys don't work

Hmm?. the Win 7 drivers are not released yet? but I found some beta drives on the Toshiba US page:

Maybe you will find some Win 7 drivers for L500/505 series?

Otherwise I would recommend to check if you could enable the WLan in device manager -> Wlan card properties -> Advanced tab?

There are some additional options? maybe the Wlan On/Off would be there too.

OS: Windows 7 / 64Bit.

I'm trying to connect my Satellite L500 to A-Link WNAP 802.11n WLAN AP 3G ROUTER via Network adapter (Intel 82567) without succes.

Device manager in General tab indicates "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". Then I updated driver -> Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date. Still same message coming in General tab.

Has anybody same kind of problem?

Answer:Satellite L500-1WG: Network adapter does not work - Code 31

Hi mate

What device doesn?t work correctly? Is it WLan or LAN card?
I?m a little but confused?

As far as I know the notebook support LAN and Wlan card from Realtek.
Therefore you could download both drivers from Realtek page directly.

Please set the BIOS to default settings before you would reinstall the both drivers.

I hope this will help you!

I've upgraded my Windows Vista to Windows 7 Utimate 64 bit (Upgrade not clean install) for my Satellite L500-126.

Everything works fine except the hotkeys (FN+F keys), the hotkeys worked fine in Vista before upgrade. I want to reinstall the drivers or applications for the hotkeys but the downloads page confuses me a lot. Which driver and applicantion I should download for that hotkeys?

Answer:Satellite L500-126 - Hotkeys doesn't work on Windows 7

For the FN keys and all other ?special function? you need only the Toshiba Value Added Package. It contains all drivers that you need for these functions: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

I have installed Windows 7 on my Satellite A300 and Qosmio F50. After the installation of Value Added Package I can successful use the FN keys. :)

I have just bought a microsoft camera as my other older version Trust webcam is not compatible with Windows 7. Surely I would have no problems with a Microsoft webcam? Wrong!

Whereas before on Vista, my trusty trust webcam worked fine on yahoo messenger, I now find that I can go My Webcam - File - Preferences - Camera Settings and then Device Settings, but Camera Controls shows only Exposure. All the other options on Camera Controls are greyed out, including Zoom which I always used on my previous Toshiba Vista laptop. Very frustrating!

Any suggestions?

Furthermore I would try to clean the registry using CCleaner.

Here in forum are already some threads about this issue. You should also use the forum search.

I have problem with my wireless switch. Take a look at this [picture|]. It says "bryterstatus: p?" which translates (poorly) to "switch status: on".

Although, when I press Fn + F8, nothing happens. All the other FN + "random button" hotkeys work though. In other words, I can't connect to my wireless. I know that it works, because I can connect with my iPhone. There's also nothing wrong with the connection, I've tried to deactive / active on and off. Tried to restart my laptop. I've even downloaded new drivers. Nothing seems to work. How can I turn on the switch?

Best Regards,
Miguel Rodrigues

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 - Wireless button doesn't work

Hello Miguel

Has your notebook ?factory settings? or you have changed something?
Have you installed own operating system or notebook still has original preinstalled operating system?
Is WLAN card installed and listed properly in device manager?

WLAN usage is so simple and by ?default? it must work properly. The same principle is on all Toshiba notebooks same. When you want to use WLAN you must move WLAN switch to position ON and use FN+F8 key combination to enable WLAN card. That?s all.

What you can try is to reinstall Value added package?

About a month ago I spilt pepsi on my laptop and had it sent for repair. I got it back today and it had a new keyboard installed, among other things. But, the new keyboard is not functioning correctly.

A bunch of the keys type nearby letters instead. E.g typing "a" gives "aq1", "b" gives "bgt". It seems to type the letters vertically above. Some work fine.

Is the new keyboard faulty, or does it need calibrated or something? My laptop model is L500-19X.

Answer:New keyboard on Satellite L500-19X doesn't work properly

My advice: don?t waste your time on forum expecting some help. How to give you proper answer to your questions?

I have a new Satellite L500.
I have installed XP and i don't find display drivers.
Display is an ati mobility radeon hd 4500.

I only found drivers for vista.
Did someone find that xp drivers?

Answer:Satellite L500 with XP - Where to find display driver

You are right. The Toshiba European driver page does not provide any Win XP drivers for this notebook yet.

But I think you should not worry? many notebooks are equipped with the same GPU chip.
I recommend checking the previous Toshiba notebooks series and trying to install such driver.

In worst case you will have to google a little bit for a Win XP ATI mobility Radeon HD 4500 driver.

If you will find such driver then you could install it in device manger using the Advanced installation procedure. This will help you to point to the driver files which you have downloaded and stored on the HDD. This installation works nearly everytime?

Hi all,

I'm newly joined here in the forum and I am looking for a sound driver for my Satellite L500-1EJ model laptop which I bought last year here in Doha.

I am really surprised that the model number is not available in Toshiba driver download website!! ??

Can anyone help me please?? I am using Windows XP, service pack 2 now.

Answer:Satellite L500-1EJ - Looking for Windows XP sound driver

Hi shihabuhashim,

Why is the model number not available on Toshiba website? Where have you searched?

I have checked the Toshiba website and I can find it: > Support & Downloads > Download drivers
Notebook > Satellite > Satellite L Series > Satellite L500 > PSLS0E > Windows XP
(Satellite L500-1EJ belongs to PSLS0E series)

Now download the sound driver that you need but it?s recommendable installing Service Pack 3 before you start with driver installation because it contains important updates.

You can install it but the usage is your own risk.
From my knowledge the Toshiba drivers are modified and designed for mobile usage.

I noticed that Toshiba release the new notebook models very often and the drivers will be released for such new series. So in cases the new notebook model uses the same ATI graphic series, you could use the same driver.

I bought my notebook last year from Turkey ;

First I have very important Keyboard ( delay issue ) abd Graphic card issue.

My graphic card supposed to be an ATI RADEON HD 5145.
I try to download drom toshiba web site, it has also no suitable driver for my notebook .

Then i tried to recognize my notebook with downloading pc-recognize program so maybe i just picked wrong model of notebook . The PROGRAM that i installed did not RECOGNIZE my notebook !!!!!!

*It means , Toshiba didn't recognize it's own notebook model !*

I updated my driver from Windows Update , but windows update just recognized my graphic card as HD 4500 ?? and always it gives me blue screen now. !

If Toshiba does not want to support my notebook why they not making announcement for that issue ?

Answer:Satellite L500-1UU: What graphic card driver can I use?

As far as I know this notebook is equipped with the ATI Mobility Radeon? HD 5145.

Here are the details:
[Satellite L500-1UU Part Number: PSLS9E-01N00DG3|]

Not sure why your Win 7 recognize the card as HD 4500 but I recommend checking this in DirectX
In RUN (or search) type DXDIAG and check what info would be available for this GPU.

The graphic card driver?s ini file contains more graphic card chip model numbers so the same driver is compatible with different graphic chips!

Be sure that you have downloaded the right version Display Driver v 8.653 (32bit or 64bit)

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Satellite L500-1Q9 - Update for display driver

Is it really a display driver issue that you need a new version? If you need a newer display driver for games you should update the DirectX version first and have a look if the game is compatible to your graphic card.

If you can?t find a newer display driver for Satellite L500 check other notebook specifications. Other models like Satellite L650 also have an AMD graphic card and there you should find a newer version. :)

I bought a L500 six months ago and now it's almost useless. Trying to operate it by starting it normaly is impossible, taking more than 40 minutes just to start up. Getting any program running or any window open takes many minutes more, if at all.

I have tried restoring the computer to a previous date but it only goes back to two weeks ago and is still facing the same problems. I have checked for bad sectors and not found any. I have also tried doing a CHKDSK but it eventually freezes after a couple of hours during stage 4 of 5, in the following file:
Users\DANIEL~1\AppData\Local\MICROS~1\Windows\TEMP OR~1\Content.IE5\FIA7RO0V\combo[1]

I can operate the computer in Safe Mode most of the times, but when moving information it tends to freeze or slow down a lot. I have been backing up my information and many times it freezes during the process.

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials but it has been deactivated. I can?t get it back on, although I have been constantly using USBs changing information between computers and no virus have been detected in the my other computer.

I do remember that one of the things that first started working strangely were WMP and VLC, as movies saved on the disk and some music albums would start freezing up after 5 minutes of being played, then playing again for a while and freezing later again.

What do you think the problem is? Is it likewise this will be a problem covered by the warranty?

Please let me know w... Read more

Answer:Satellite L500 doesn't work properly even on Safe Mode

Hi buddy,

> Is it likewise this will be a problem covered by the warranty?
It?s only covered by warranty if it?s a hardware malfunction but if it?s just a software or driver issue it?s no warranty and you have to pay for service.

Anyway, it?s hard to say what the problem is but theoretically it could be software related only and even in safe mode you have several issues I would try reinstall Windows from Toshiba recovery disk. This can restore the original factory settings (out of box settings) and with these settings everything should work properly. Then you can make sure it?s no software or driver problem because the recovery image is pretested by Toshiba.

If you still have problems after recovery installation contact an ASP!

I am using windows 7 ultimate x64 on L500-126, the new win7 x64 drivers have been available since yesterday.....

However, the Flash cards (Fn Hotkeys) still doesn't work after the installation of the new VAP. The flash cards is able to show up at the top of my screen, I can click them by mouse, but the Fn combinations does not work at all!

I've noticed that there is a downloadable driver called "Flash Cards support", even I installed this application the problem still remained.

Then I uninstalled VAP and kept "Flash Cards support", to my surprise, the combination of Fn+F6 and F7 (Adjusting brightness) worked! however, without VAP I could not use other combinations.

HP has created this software and they know what to do in such situation.

I can't install the drivers for my graphic card on my computer. It's a satellite L500-1C7.
You can see her configuration here :
fabricant : Intel
model: Mobile Intel GMA 4500M

On the intel's website, they said to download the drivers on toshiba's website but here the drivers doesn't install.
During installation a message saying:

"Ce syst?me ne poss?de pas la configuration minimale requise pour l?installation du logiciel. Le programme d?installation va s?arr?ter."

I could traduct it by "the system doesn't have the minimal configuration requiered for the program's installation. The installaion program is going to stop.
I've download this drivers :

Intel Windows 7 - 64 Bit World Wide

I'm sure this is the good drivers, so what could i do in order to install this drivers what i need?

Sorry for my bad english !

Answer:Satellite L500-1C7 Cannot install Intel graphic driver

Generally speaking it is always recommended to use Toshiba drivers only. Toshiba drivers are tested and adapted to work with graphic card placed in notebook. There is also ?mechanism? to protect graphic card from overheating and damaging.

If you check this forum you will find many users with same problem. graphic card manufacturers write on own download pages that for mobile PCs it is strictly recommended to use drivers from notebook manufacturer.

I believe you think it is good driver but do you also think that Toshiba?s driver is not good or not good enough?

I have just bought a Satellite L500-XL with 160 Gb HDD.

This is partitioned into a Drive C: and a Drive D: of equal sizes, and it seems that Drive D: is used solely for recovery files. leaving 67.4 GB unused. By default the Windows 7 library folders are on Drive C: so this drive will fill and leave an inexperienced user thinking that the whole disk is full.

Is it necessary to devote half of the disk to recovery files, and what can I do about it?

Answer:Satellite L500-1XL - Can I reduce drive D?

Hi ernstk,

First of all: Create the Toshiba recovery disk. If something goes wrong you can restore factory settings every time and you can do what you want with your notebook. Just start the Toshiba recovery disk creator and follow the screen instructions.

Furthermore you can change the partitions. Just use the Disk Management tool of Windows.

But let me give you a word of advice: Don?t change partition sizes. Just move your own folders like pictures, music, documents, etc. on the second partition. If you have to reinstall the notebook by using HDD recovery mode, these files will not be deleted (only the first partition). So that?s pretty comfortable. :)

I recently purchased a second Satellite L500-01U quite cheaply without a hard drive. I am looking at hard drives to put in it (I want at least 750GB 1TB would be best) and have seen a WD 1TB, however it says that it is 12.5mm high which is bigger than normal.

I'm just wondering, will it fit into the hard drive bay of a Toshiba Satellite L500-01U PSLS9A-01U012?

I dont actually have any idea how big the hard drive and caddy and stuff is normally.

Answer:Satellite L500-01U - New hard drive with 1TB

According the specifications it looks like that Satellite L500 supports 9.5mm HDDs only so the WD drive with 12.5mm will probably not fit.

I have checked other HDD brands and Samsung has a 1TB 2.5? HDD with 9.5mm height only. It?s model ?HN-M101MBB? and I found it on [|]

I hope it helps! :) Samsung Spinpoint M8 1000GB, SATA II (HN-M101MBB)

I have some questions about my laptop..

1. Is it normal that on some DVD/CD's the DVD rom it very loud and vibrates a lot, spesialy on older CD's..

2.The cover/lid of my laptop when i close it its kinda not in line with the rest of the pc it is not totaly alligned but its kinda hard to see expect when you look for it..but its properly on and its not lose or anything just not alinged to the "body" of the laptop

3.The lid again, Underneath the screen where the lid is mounted to the "body" off the laptop if.. it is not glued to the screen like the rest of the edges its just putted next to it you can drag in it so you can see the wires going into the screen etc
is that normal?

Answer:Satellite Pro L500-12E - Issue with CD/DVD drive and display

Hey Pedersen37,

1) Maybe your older CD?s doesn?t work properly anymore. What happens if you try the same disks in another computer?

Regarding your display/lid problem? If you mean that you can see cables they going into the screen I can?t see it on my notebook. Normally all cables are invisible and under the plastic.
It?s strange to say something about this but maybe a plastic cover isn?t installed properly or a screw is missing?

If you think something isn?t normal you have to contact your authorized service provider. They can check the notebook.

This question is regarding my Satellite L500!

Right so my D drive has 148GB of memory and currently has just over 3GB left. I keep getting told to clear it down but when looking through the files there is 7GB taken by "HDD Recovery" and somewhere around 80GB taken up by "Windows Image Backup". This obviously doesnt come to more than 87GB however i cant find anymore files that are taking up space.

My question is why has it become so full? I do a backup every sunday, and have had the laptop less than a year.

Any help would be appriciated, if you need anymore info let me know and i'll tell you ^^

Thanks guys,

Answer:Memory Issues with D: Drive on my Satellite L500

> My question is why has it become so full? I do a backup every sunday, and have had the laptop less than a year

You said you backup the data every Sunday and the 80GB are used by "Windows Image Backup
This means that the backups which you create every Sunday takes the space on the HDD...

By the way: HDD Recovery is Toshiba HDD image which allows you to recover the notebook without the usage of recovery disk. But I still recommend creating the recovery disk using the preinstalled tool called Toshiba recovery disk creator.
This is important in case something would go wrong with HDD!

I was using Windows Media Player yesterday to copy music to my MP4 player. It read 2 cd's but on the 3rd it stopped working. I thought that it was because it was a burnt CD however, i've been trying all my CD's store bought and everything and even DVD's and it takes forever for the driver to try and read them then in the My Computer window it comes up a message: "Please insert a disk into Drive D" and ejects the CD or DVD.

I checked the properties and it says that the device is working correctly.

I even ran the PC DIagnotistc Tool on the D drive but it just skips over it.

Any ideas? My laptop is only a month or 2 old.

Answer:Satellite L500 - CD/DVD Drive has stopped playing CD's and DVD's

Remove the optical disc drive from the device manager list and restart your notebook.
After restart the device should be installed again.
Check the functionality again using different CDs and DVDs.

Which notebook model do you have exactly?

I need to buy a new hard drive but want to make sure the new one will fit and work. are they laptops all the same size. I have a satellite l500. Will this hard drive fit into my laptop Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500G SATA 5400RPM,8M notebook HDD .

What am i suppose to be looking for?
Thank you

Answer:Hard drive replacement on Satellite L500

Unfortunately that link doesn?t show the HDD so if you can please change the link and post the right one

Anyway, what you need is 2,5? SATA HDD and I think described HDD in your posting will fit. Replacement is not complicated and you can do it alone.
Check also user?s manuals document. Maybe you can find exact instructions how to do this.

If you have more questions you are welcome.

According to system control L500-19e disposes of a free port SATA.

Port 0: free
Port 1: internal HDD (1 TB Western D)
Port 4: internal DVD drive
Port 5: external eSATA drive when connect

I plan to connect a SSD on port 0.
Where do I find the port?

Should this not function, I would buy an HDD - installation frame for the CD-ROM shaft.

Does somebody have experience with it?

Many thanks for your answers

Answer:Satellite L500-19e - connection of second internal HDD/SSD drive

Second internal HDD or SSD can be added if notebook has second HDD slot and place for second HDD. Is this the case with your notebook?

Check bottom side if place for second HDD is available.

Have you also tried removing the upper and lower filters from registry? All CD/DVD drive related programs, like Nero, installing filters in registry and they can cause such problems.

I just got my second Satelite L500-126.
I exchanged my first one for a new one because the ESC key got stuck sometimes and made a squeaking sound.

Now with my new one, I noticed that my dvd drive does not open very smoothly and 2 little silver metal bars come out with the drive when I open it.
Is this normal?

Also, when I close the dvd drive i hear a little "ping!" sound.
Like a spring or something. Is this also normal?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L500-126 - CD/DVD drive does not open very smoothly

I?m not quite sure what you mean by ?2 little silver metal bars? but my notebook?s drive contains two metals (runners, trackage).
This is normal and these parts are important to ensure that the drive could eject properly and could stay in right position.
You will always hear an short ?click? opening and closing the drive.

So I assume this is ok.

I have a Toshiba Satellite l500-137 laptop with vista sp2.
There's a written cd that my dvd driver wouldn't read, the driver can read other cd's & dvd's though.
that mentioned cd is seems to be fine because it can be red by other computer.

any suggestions?

Answer:Satellite L500-13T - CD/DVD drive doesn't read CD

That means only one disk can?t be read from your notebook and all other disks can be read properly? Well, in my opinion it could be a problem of the disk, maybe it?s scratched and so it can?t be read from all drives.

In your case I would try to clean the lens of your CD/DVD drive. Therefore you can use a microfiber cloth.
Check this!!

I have a Toshiba P775-110 Notebook and the blu-ray drive doesnt run anymore.
Tried to install the new driver but there comes this message:

If I put a blu-ray in the drive it starts and stops reading, but it won?t play.

In the device manager everthing looks good.

I remember, after the second or third blu-ray driver update it began to make trouble.

Please, do you have any advice?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite P775 - BluRay drive doesn't work, driver installations is failing

Wait a moment Denny. If I understand you right you have just problem with Blu-Ray player installation, right?
I presume optical disc drive is running OK and can read CDs or DVDs.

Can you please tell us what do you try to install exactly (version number)?

Maybe you should remove preinstalled BD player, clean registry and try to reinstall this version.

Hi All (first time posting)

I have come across a bit of a curiosity. Bought new laptop installed everything, then loaded in all backup files from previous laptop, brilliant all works.....
But then noticed was beginning to run out of space on hdd (C drive)?

Why? This is a 500 Gig hard drive. So I checked. Its actually a 500 gig hard drive, partitioned into two, equally. Ok, understand that, first partition is C: for all system files etc, then there is D: Recovery files (using approx 8 gig) then nothing else ..... what a waste.

So here is the question, Can I make the C: drive bigger by reducing the D: partition? If NO, would it make more sense then to just make another partition i.e. E: ?

Oooh and will I do the Recovery Files any damage in doing this.

All your kind advice much appreciated.

***if its not broken...........your not playing hard enough***

Answer:Satellite L500 - Hard Disk Drive Partitioning

Why you make all this so complicate? HDD has two partitions and you can use all this space. Toshiba has saved HDD recovery image on second partition but it does not mean you are not allowed to save your data there. You can do this but just don't touch or change HDDRecovery folder. Just leave it there or make it ?invisible?.

This folder can be used later for HDD image installation -
Can you imagine follow situation:
You save all your stuff on partition C and one day for some reason you cannot start OS and it is completely unusable. What you can do? Maybe install OS again. OK good idea but you will lose all your important data.

So better is to save all private stuff on partition D and if something goes wrong you can install OS using HDD recovery installation. That means partition C will be formatted and clean OS installed using image from partition D. The point is that all data saved at partition D will be there and you will not lose anything.

If you want to install OS using recovery DVDs (I hope you have created them) the whole HDD will be formatted and you will lose all saved data.
I hope you understand now how it works so think about all important data and save it also at some external device too.

I've had a message from the action center on my laptop saying that the Disk where my backups are being saved doesn't have enough space.

The Data (D) drive has 8.33 GB free out of 232 GB. Please can someone tell me (in simple terms) how to resolve this, free up space on the (D) drive & ensure that the backups don't fill it up again.

Answer:Satellite L500 (Win7) - Data Drive is full

I assume you?ve got two partitions on HDD.
1st partition C is the system partition where the Win 7 is installed.
2nd partition D contains recovery files which are needed to recover the notebook from HDD and to create a recovery disk.

If your D partition is full, move some files like mp3, movie or image files to C partition.

Additionally I recommend installing the CCleaner tool. Its freeware software which helps you to delete temporal stored files which are mostly not needed.

Hello everyone,

I recently bought myself a new notebook, the Satellite L500-1C7. It's running fine except for one question that I have: I am aware of the fact, that the battery lasts for only about 2-2,5 hours. But is it normal for the computer to shut down when the battery sign is showing 22% (happens after about 2,25 hours)? Then, after I put the power cable in, the battery sign suddenly shows 5%.
Is this usual or is something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L500-1C7 battery problem

At first I must say that 2,5 hours working time on battery power supply is really great and the same is with my Satellite A300.

To be honest the whole story is a little bit strange for me. Usually before notebook switches off you should hear and see battery alarm when the critical power level is reached.
Please try to change these settings in advanced power settings and watch what happen exactly. set it to 10 or 15% and change also settings what should happen when critical level is reached (standby/hibernation/switching OFF).

If the critical level is 5% I cannot imagine notebook switches off at 22% without this battery alarm message.
How do you know it happens on 22% when notebook suddenly switches off?

I have a Satellite L500-1UR, with 64-Bit.

After a Windows Update my grapic board is down. I only have a standard monitor.
I can only switch between two different resoultions (1024x768 or 800x600).
Previous i have something with 1300x768.
I cannote use the previos driver anymore.

My Graphic board is Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family.
When I actualize the driver nothing happen.

Under the properties stand, that the digital signature can?t be prooved.
Code 52. I make a system recovery.
The first days it was like before but after another windows update the same failure happen again.

And now i can?t make another system recovery anymore.

Please help me somebody, I am desperate.

Answer:Satellite L500-1UR - Problem with the graphic

Unfortunately I cannot explain what happened exactly with your machine. Maybe you have installed all available updates (important and optional). Maybe the display driver was offered as optional driver.

Anyway, what you can do now is follow:
-try to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore option
-reinstall display driver -
-in worst case you can reinstall OS using HDD recovery option (I hope it works)

If you have more questions you are welcome.

I have a friends TOSHIBA Satellite Pro L500 running win7 32bit. It has this boot up problem I have not come across before. When it boots it stops at the screen with F2 for setup and F12 for boot devices and goes no further. F12 brings up the boot device menu and when the HDD is selected the windows boot menu appears safe mode etc, I need to select 'start windows normally' which it then does.

I have tried 'startup repair', updated bios, deleted partitions and did clean install of the OS and also tried a different HDD. Nothing works.

I don't think it is a BIOS virus because no messages appear. is the ROM damaged?

The original memory works good.

For the past few months my Toshiba Satellite L500-1 is shutting down frequently due overheating, which occurs during intensive use of the laptop (during gaming, photomanipulation etc.). However, I do not know what I can do about this. I will not open my laptop, unless I am told to open my laptop to do a specific task.

Today my laptop shut off again. However, when I turn it back on I noticed something happened with my fan. At this point, my laptop will not overheat fast as usually. Instead of fanspeed of 90+% it stays around the 58 to 60% (according to the Toshiba PC Health Monitor). Nevertheless, I noticed something happened with my fan. After shutdown I noticed that the fan will occasionally make a ticking noise, which is heard once every 10 minutes when the laptop is under intensive use.

What should I do now? This does worry me, should I be worried about this? Maybe another Toshiba user with a similar problem can provide me support. I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L500 - Shutdown and a fan problem

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem can be.
When you use your notebook do you use it placed on the desk?
Do you use it with AC power supply?

Which power profile do you use when notebook shuts down?
Have you tried to change power settings or anything else?

Before you start to use it intensively have you tried to end some background processes, disconnect external devices, just to see if this will help?
