Preferred Solution: Satellite L500-21T - Stop error code when installing Windows 7

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500-21T - Stop error code when installing Windows 7

Hi buddy,

I?m a little bit confused now... Do you want Windows 7 or Windows XP?

If you miss some drivers after XP installation, why do you update the BIOS?

As far as I know Satellite L500 support Windows XP so you can download all missing drivers and tools on official Toshiba website:

Error code: 380381-26-2a037303 when trying to burn to DVD.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Satellite L500-19X - Error code when trying to burn to DVD

What program you are using for burning disks?
What operating system is installed?
What kind of blank DVDs you use?

To be honest I can?t say something about this and one sentence description is too short in this case.

I would recommend using high quality mediums from Verbatim or TDK. I have good experience with DVD-R mediums instead DVD+R.

I downloaded "sln0v190.exe" (Phoenix WinPhlash 64) and extracted to a folder and then selected to run the BIOS flash routine.

I get the following error:
"Failed to retrieve system bios information.
BCPSYS block signature not found
Error Code -100"

As I can not read - and save - the old corrupted BIOS I can not flash the new BIOS!

Any ideas please?

Answer:Satellite L500 - BIOS update error code 100

Hi buddy,

Do you update the BIOS with administrator account?
Have you disabled the security software on your computer?
Is Toshiba Value Added Package installed?
What operating system do you use?

But may I ask you why you want to update the BIOS? Do you have any problems with the computer? If not I wouldn?t do this update. As you probably know never touch a running system ;)

Hello Everyone

I have a problem, suddenly, without doing anything, my *FN keys stop working*. First the luminosity adjustment still worked without appearing the bar on the top of the screen, but when I reboot the computer not even that works, nothing related with the FN key works.

My biggest problem is that my computer is a Toshiba Satellite L500-13W and *i can only activate Wireless pressing FN+F8*. I can't stay with this problem much more. I already looked in this forum and in other sites but none of the solutions have solved my problem.
I hope you can help me.

Thanks in Advance.

Have a Satellite L500 Windows 7 32 bit. Windows Backup on external disk does not (longer) work. Message: Last backup was not successfull. Error message 0x8007002.

Can set restoration/recovery point and can backup from restoration/recovery points, but cannot actively save/backup data on external units with Windows tools. Toshiba Board for "secure your laptop" does not work as well. If possible, do not want to restore the whole OS.

Thanks for your help.

To be honest I doubt this issue has something to do with Toshiba?

Have you already checked Google for useful links?

I found an answer that cleaning the registry with CCleaner (or another program) worked? It would be worth a try ;)

I bought my first toshiba laptop last saturday, and i find it wierd that the cooling fan works around 80%(data taken from the software provided: PC Toshiba Monitor Health) all the time i have the laptop on, it never slows or stops...nothing exept full throttle.

It keeps its cool, thats a fact, but its pretty noisy and while surfing the web or working on microsoft office for example, it can be pretty anoying and energy demanding.

Another thing i question is, in a long term, how healthy is the fact of the fan working non-stop at this amount of speed for the laptop? Should i be concerened and maby taking it to be checked by the store i bought it? Or its normal?

Below is a link of a screenshot i took from the numbers i'm talking about:

thankx for your help :D

Answer:Satellite L500-19f cooling fan works non-stop

Try please to reduce it changing cooling method options in Toshiba power settings.
Start > Control Panel > Power settings > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Toshiba Power Saver > Cooling method > change it to ?Battery optimized?.

Maybe this will help you.

I have a new Toshiba satellite L500 1XX with i3 and I have installed the 32bit OS.
From the first start the fan is acting strange every 5-10 seconds it start working for 5-10 seconds then stops for 5-10 seconds then start again, that is going on all the time even if the laptop gust stand with out doing anything.
I believe something is wrong but was not able to find it. Please I need help
Thank you

Answer:Re: Satellite L500 - Fan start/stop every 5-10 seconds

It's ok with your laptop. My satellite A500 also acts like this, even if I surf the Internet, watching movie and CPU shows only 5%. I don't play games at all. It's not because of dust because I clean it regularly, installed all drivers, bios updated. The only way to make it less noisy to run the fan at constant speed like 54%, I just load the CPU with some applications that keeps fan running almost everytime and no annoying noise noticeable.
You can play with power settings in Power plan, but in my case it doesn't help. And don't even decide to upgrade Bios, it doesn't improve you but can ,,kill,, your lap if goes wrong.

OS: Windows 7 / 64Bit.

I'm trying to connect my Satellite L500 to A-Link WNAP 802.11n WLAN AP 3G ROUTER via Network adapter (Intel 82567) without succes.

Device manager in General tab indicates "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". Then I updated driver -> Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date. Still same message coming in General tab.

Has anybody same kind of problem?

Hi mate

What device doesn?t work correctly? Is it WLan or LAN card?
I?m a little but confused?

As far as I know the notebook support LAN and Wlan card from Realtek.
Therefore you could download both drivers from Realtek page directly.

Please set the BIOS to default settings before you would reinstall the both drivers.

Hi folks,

I'm running windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite L500-1XL.

About 6 weeks ago, Windows refused to load.
I'd get the 'Toshiba' screen and then Windows startup splash, but then nothing but a black screen with a (moveable) mouse icon.

i couldn't get into safe mode, and Toshiba's built in recovery utility wouldn't work.
Even using the Toshiba 'Product Recovery" DVD was doing nothing, although the disk was making a few strange and repetitive clicks during that, so I suspected a faulty hard drive. (Possibly where the MBR was OK, but the data wasn't?)

Anyway I put in a replacement HDD (backups are a wonderful thing BTW!) and the recovery DVD loaded perfectly and all seemed well.

About 2 weeks later, I got the same problem
('Toshiba' screen Windows startup splash, but then nothing but a black screen with a (moveable) mouse icon; no safe mode; no recovery utility)

This time, however the Product recovery DVD worked fine first time.

Another 2 weeks go by and the same problem happens again; this time it took another HDD for the recovery media to work.

So my question is really what could be causing this fault?

Could it be a virus which is corrupting something which is preventing Windows from loading? And 'preventing' it so much that I can't even load the recovery utilities?

In which case could it also prevent the Product recovery DVD from loading?

Or am I looking at an intermittent fault with the HDD connector which is either physically d... Read more

Answer:Satellite L500-1XL - Strange Windows 7 Error - Virus Or Hardware fault?

> So my question is really what could be causing this fault?
I doubt it?s a virus or something like that but nothing is impossible.

From my experience the data on the HDD can be affected by different software tools.
In my case the data on the HDD was corrupt because the 3rd party software changed some files and the boot master record has been damaged.
I formatted the HDD and created new partitions.

I also use the CCleaner and I defragment the HDD several times in the week.
Since than the HDD and the data is ok and didn?t notice such symptoms anymore.

Maybe you should try this too?

Hello, I bought Toshiba L500 in January but I haven't been able to update it with Tempro since May. Towards the end of setup, setup crashes and it says the following in Turkish:

"Hata 1722. Bu Windows Installer paketi ile ilgili bir sorun var. Kurulumun bir par?as? olarak ?al??an program beklendi?i gibi sonlanmad?. Destek sorumlunuza veya paket sat?c?s?na ba?vurun."

If I translate it briefly,

"Error 1722. There is a problem with his Windows Installer package. The program working as a part of the setup didn't finish as expected. Apply your support service or package seller."

I download the Tempro setup file, but whenever I start setup, it always says so. How can I update my laptop?
Thank you for your interest and answers.

Answer:Re: Satellite L500 - Temro issue - Error 1722 Windows Installer package

If the 1722 error appears then this means that a program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected
Please check the new Tempro version here:

I installed Tempro and is functioned so I assume it?s a problem with your Windows OS.

Hello Geeks,

I am working on a computer that, when turned on it tries to load the Windows 10 OS and then it comes up with a frowny face and gives me a Stop Code: 0x0000007B which is an INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. So I went through the basic steps going through the Troubleshoot options with no avail. I then tried to recreate the MBR through command prompt and that still didn't do it. I then try to restore old registry files through RegBack in CMD. That did not work either. I'm trying to get the data off and just reinstall the OS from a clean install. I am able to get into Safe Mode with Networking. Also I was talking to the owner and they said that the computer was bought with Windows Vista and then didn't like it and bought Windows 7 and put it on the computer the problem I saw was that the bought the 64-Bit Pro and then when the upgrade came around they Upgraded and Window 10 saw that there was 64-Bit Pro installed so it just went and installed the same. My question is on this part: Can I reinstall the 32-bit version and still maintain the digital entitlement or will I have to have them purchase a new OS?

Hi I have an old computer of my parents. it have important files on it. I tried to help and made thing worse :(
i have xp installed on my computer. my computer was very slow while starting up and my avast antivirus always use to pop up "a virus has been detected in run32.dll". also avast/ virus has blocked many of my adminstrartive tasks. i searched a lot on it. But was not able to get rid of it.
so i manually tried to uninstall avast but it does not allows me do do so saying you dont have adminstrative rights to modify registrty and all that.
After i restarted i was not able to reach the xp logon screen and it reboots again and again. it happened again when i tried to safe boot, previous best settings and other f8 commands. then i found a blue screen once which gives stop code 0x00000007B (0xf99a4524,0xc0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000).

I want to back up files on my computer. and delete that virus but how can i make my computer normal again.

please help me.

Answer:windows xp crashes gives stop code error

umm... I'm not perfectly sure about this but if avast said a virus was in the run32.dll it could mean either, its a virus masquerading as the run32.dll or something horribly wrong happened to you registry.

I think information can still be accessed if it was hooked up through another hard drive. Basically a hard-drive with an OS installed on it can access another hard drive that is hooked up to the same motherboard. So if you have two hard drives and both had OS's on them, one hard drive's OS could access the other hard drive's information. There can be issues, but more than likely it will work.

Be wary that if your hard drive is affected by a virus I would make sure to have virus protection on whatever is opening the infected hard drive up. Namely the other hard-drive's OS.

That is all that I can think of to "fix" your situation. It doesn't necessarily fix the hard drive is infected and not working problem, but it fixes the getting important information off the infected hard drive problem.

Hopefully this helps, and hopefully some other forum member may have a better solution.

Good luck.

Hello, I got a BSOD when my computer was almost idle (only utorrent was running) with stop error code 0x000000F4.
Also at the blue screen it got stuck at the 2nd step (don't remember what it says) and as a result I don't have a minidump file.
My pc specs are:
Motherboard: ASUS Rampage III Extreme
CPU: Intel i7 - 950 @ 3,00GHz
RAM: 3x2GB @ 1866MHz
Windows Drive: 60GB SSD (OCZ Agility)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate Sp1 64bit
This has happened quite a few times during the 1 year I have this computer. The previous times the SSD I had (Corsair F60) stopped working. (2 SSDs dead)
The problem is that I cannot reproduce the problem so that we find out the cause. Is it something with the controller of the motherboard? What should I do?
Thank you for your time!

Answer:Stop Error When Installing Windows XP Pro

hi, you can use open office in Ubuntu, anyway make sure that CD doesn't have any scratches and dirt. Like you mentioned you have restes bios.
Is it possible if you can try another hard drive, my recommendation is to download a live cd such as bartpe or ultimate boot cd, then use this live cd to format the machine. I think there is a corruption in MBR.

Also access recovery console if possible and try
chkdsk c: /r
and try /p

If your BIOS permits this can you check to see if you can disable bios caching.
This problem can also be RAM issue, so open pc case with all power disconnected, reseat RAM or try another DIMM slot press it and hear the click.

Change jumper setting in CD drive if it is cable select then change to MASTer, because there aren't any other devices connected to this channel it will not affect them.

hi I get an error code 0x80070037 when trying to installing windows 7 any ideas? I used another windows disc still get the error help

Answer:help getting error code when installing windows 7

There's some sort of hardware issue occurring. The error means that the device (i.e. storage device) is no longer available. Is this a new system or hard drive? You may want to try disconnecting the hard drive power/data cables from both motherboard and drive ends and reconnect them.

Also it might happen if your motherboard or whatever RAID card you have installed needs drivers to read storage drives connected too it. To do that you will need to have a USB available with the drivers or have them slipstreamed on the Windows 7 disc, then when setting up drive to install Windows click the "Load drivers" button and find and load them from there.

Then press f9 and save the changes?

I recommend testing the HDD as well.... use a tool called "Drive Fitnes Test" for that...

What to say? seems the old installed software needs framework 2.
Possibly it?s not compatible with newer framework?

Maybe you should remove the installed framework from the system firstly.
Then after new reboot and registry cleaning (using CCleaner for example) you could install framework 2 again?

> Isn't there any way to reset my bios drivers? And if i have to send it to a support center, will they format my disc?

There is no relation between Bios and hard drive. They will reflash your Bios, all data on you hard drive will be untouched. But you should know that Bios reflash is not free procedure, you will have to pay.

I've seen a lot of threads about Error code: 0x80070570 here, but none of the solutions works for me.

I posted on /r/techsupport earlier today:

Where I had trouble getting into the windows installer. I managed to get the installer going, but now I am getting an error message during the installation:
Error code: 0x80070570

This happened after I formatted my drives; during the installation. I've tried to take out my RAM 1 by 1, but with no luck.
Running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a self-built desktop computer. Installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with a Kingston USB-stick "burned" with Rufus. This is the ISO I am using:

Download Official ISO's of Windows 7, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 legally and for free - TechFleece

I have no access to a different Windows computer, only a MacBook Pro Retina. Nor do I have a different USB-stick or drive, so solutions which no not require any of this is appreciated. I am not the most computer savvy guy either, so keeping it simple would be nice

Thanks in advance!

If it's a PS/2 connector turn your PC off before disconnecting/connecting your keyboard.

Often Windows Update fixes this... but this is a software issue now...

Hi, I'm trying to fix my brother's Dell Inspiron N5030 because he couldn't get windows to boot after running startup repair several times.

So I made a WIN 7 bootable USB using Wintoflash, booted the usb, and ran the startup repair utility 2-3 times with no luck. Then I tried to re-install windows. When I selected his primary hard drive it had a yellow triangle by it and it said something like "drive may fail soon." I went ahead and tried the install anyway and at 5% it stopped and I received error code 0x8007045D. So I ran chkdsk, and it deleted many corrupted files, but i still get the same error code when installing.

I don't believe this error is the fault of the installer because I used the same iso, program, and flash drive to re-install windows on my laptop (which is the same exact model) without any issue. Also, after a little prodding, I found out that his laptop had a fairly hard fall right around the time that it stopped booting windows. So, after all this, I'm pretty sure the culprit is his hardrive. My question is: how can I be sure of this?

One thing to note: he had his current hard drive installed aftermarket because his original hard drive failed.

Answer:Error code 0x8007045D when re-installing Windows 7

Boot into BIOS setup to see if HD is detected. If not try reinstalling, check contacts, replace if necessary.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. (If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install.) Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which... Read more

@Achintya-only, Since the hardware all passed, and it would install a different version of windows without trouble, I would suspect a problem with the Windows 8.1 x64 installation disk. IT may be a good idea to contact Microsoft about this issue. I did a bit of searching and found this on the Mcrosoft equivalent of this board.Windows 8.1 Pro (Retail) Installation Fails At Beginning Of Stage 2 With Error Code: 0xC0000005 - are some suggestions on this post that you can try. I hope this helps.

Answer:specific error code 2 when installing windows xp pro

Hello bbackz

I think you should check your RAM

If you have more than one stick of RAM (256MB or more) swap them over or take one out and try again with only stick #1. If it does not help or makes things worse swap the sticks and try again with only stick #2. Running with one stick at a time will identify if you have a bad stick. Try moving the RAM to a different slot as well.

You can put either of these free programs on a floppy and test the RAM. Let them run for hours to do many passes if you can

Windows Memory Diagnostic

Memtest on CD ( this is a bootable CD and can be used when you cannot access an operating system)

Use your CD burner to write it onto a CD as an ISO image

Test with only one stick of RAM installed at a time

lately Iv'e been having trouble booting my windows 7 and decided that it's time to upgrade, I bought a copy ofr windows 8 64-bit from microsoft and burned it onto a disk using the windows 7 usb/dvd downloader. I was doing all this from a 32-bit and thus applied the bootsect.exe as needed. When i boot from the disk, everything runs smoothly. I insert the required code and select custom install.

At this point, i select the partitiion and proceed. as the installation proceeeds, it does not apear if the first phase of installation does anything, even after 5 minutes it stays at 0%. after it finaly switches to the next part, I wait again for the next phase, but it only throws up a message "windows cannot install required files. make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. error code 0x8007048F"

After multiple attempts I decided to reinstall windows 7, but now I get the same error.

Hi,I have bit of a problem , I have the following pc which I bought 3 yrs ago , so I suppose relatively old Compaq Presario SR2125UK Desktop PC Its running 2gb of mem , 140 GB , duo core intel proscessor ( I cant remember the exact speed - i suffer dyscalculia but I bought this when duo core pretty much just came out ( I can try to find out and amend later if I can get back in safe mode again ) in march 07 here in the uk from pcworld with Windows preinstalled. To recall how this happened is TBH akward as this has been recurring issue for some time that I managed to sort of deal with, with antivirus software , but never truly sorted until it started getting out of hand ( fan whirling all the time ) about 3 wks ago.At the time I thought it was just a bad virus that had somehow got in there ,so I tired various antivirus software like kapersky , spybot which helped up to point ( at least speed it up / stop the fan buzzing ) but for some reason it never truly fixed the issue either. This actually started to happen ,or get considerably worse ) if I recall every time I attempted a Microsoft update so as result I ended up ingoring them altogher as I kept having to a system restore ( these updates just slowed down my pc sometimes worse than a virus itself )Last night then I attempted to sort this ,using software I bought called Paragon disc manager . Answer:Error code: 0x8007048F while installing 64 bit/32 bit Windows 7

Check in BIOS setup if you have an EFI BIOS. Is there an EFI Boot disk in BIOS boot order? If so remove it and set DVD drive to boot first. Look for another setting for Legacy BIOS to enable. Then wipe the HD with Clean command again and try install.

If no EFI BIOS, reset the BIOS to defaults, set SATA controller at AHCI to try install. Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes. Test your HD with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan.

Will the disk boot on another PC and see it's HD to prepare for install? If not start over with a new official ISO burned to disk or written to flash stick using Steps 1 and 2 in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

I have a Satellite L500-12Q laptop. I used the Recovery Disc Creator to make the recovery discs. It needs 4 discs. The 1st was writtenk ok, but on the second, near the end of the progress, it stopped advancing. It is almost an hour, and it is still not finished. I am on the second try. The disc is spinning and the drive makes noise as if it were writing, but it doesn't advance at all.

Please, could you help me?

Hey Claudiu,

What kind of DVD you are using to create the Toshiba recovery disks? I did also had some problems to create a recovery disk but I changed the media from DVD+R to DVD-R and all was ok!!! I used Verbatim disks for creating because I have really good experience with this kind of disks. Furthermore it seems that TDK disks also work pretty well. Check this!!!

If it doesn?t work check the Toshiba page for a firmware update of your ODD!

So last night I went to reformat my laptop, halfway through I thought nah I don't wanna do this anymore so I clicked cancel. Now whenever I try to turn on my laptop, it just gives me the ERROR saying F3-F200-0002 and won't startup. I have tried pressing F8 on startup, but there is no option for recovery or repair in the menu, just safe mode, debugging mode etc.

I was browsing the forums and found out I should press 0 constantly while the laptop is booting and it will bring up the recovery wizard. Anyway, when I do this it says HDD recovery mode then it says Windows is loading files, then it goes to a page saying ERROR F3-FF00-0006.

I have been told to download this file ( but I don't know how to make it work on my laptop that is broken (I'm on my nans computer at the moment). I have tried putting it onto a USB and slotting the USB in, but it won't work.

I need help urgently as I use my laptop for my job (I work from home, using the laptop). It would be alot to mean if you could help me fix it from home, as I do not have money at the moment to be able to purchase a recovery disk or send the computer shop for a professional to fix.

P.S I am on Windows7 and my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro L500.

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 - F3-F200-0002 ERROR on STARTUP

As far as I know recovery installation should not be interrupted. If you do this you will not have access to recovery wizard anymore. All you can do now is to install recovery image using recovery DVD.

Have you created one? If not you can order it under

Other way you can try to install own OS version if you have original Microsoft installation disc.
You know, the whole situation is pretty complicated now.

By the way: in one other posting with similar problem description some people wrote that this error message can be caused by damaged HDD. I cannot confirm this but everything is possible.

So I'm attempting to reinstall Windows XP Home on a computer I just built from existing drives and a new motherboard/cpu. A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Hi! I got errors 80070BC9 and C355 when trying to install SP1, security updates KB2478661 and KB2556352 and Internet Explorer 9 with Windows Update. I use Windows 7 Professional x64. I tried to install the updates manually, used the Windows Update Readyness and FixIt tools, and to reinstall the Windows Update agent from the command line as administrator with the /wuforce option. Nothing worked. I uploaded the checksur.log. Can you fix this please?

Answer:Windows Update error when installing SP1 code 80070BC9

* First & foremost I recommend you only do a few updates at a time.
Set Windows to notify you of updates but YOU choose which to do & when.

* Certain Security software can cause updating issues.
To find out if 3rd party software is causing the updates to fail to install > configure the system to Clean boot and then check for updates.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

* You could also try resetting Windows Update Components.
To do this:
1. Click on the following link: How do I reset Windows Update components?
2. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

* Instead of using Windows Update try the SP1 Download:

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

For 32-Bit Windows 7 download: windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe

I have a Gateway laptop M series that I upgraded to Win7 a few years back (o.g. Vista) has run beautifully ever sense. Recently installed Win8 fresh. Error code OxcOOOOOe9 became the issue. Start up repair was performed several times with no resolve. Used cmd to perform MBR fixes including fix mbr, bootrec.exc, and other fixes found on this site. Nothing seems to resolve the issue. I gave up and was about to call it quits, under the assumption the hdd was gone. One day I decided to throw a fresh copy of Ubuntu on it for laughs ( I am currently getting my certs in networking and linux+) it works flawlessly. Strange to me although I understand there is a difference with grub and mbr. If there are any suggestions, I would be most thankful.

I should add that I am now just trying to reinstall 7. I have played with 8 on a different PC and would rather stick with the former.

Custom built my own computer back in May, and everything was working fine, then one day, updates kept failing and failing. I've gone through lots of Microsoft support pages but didn't find anything. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, verified. The OS is loaded on a Kingston v300 240gb ssd if that matters.

What happens is I go to shut down, and it will bring up the updates screen. 1 of 24, 2 of 24, and then it jumps to 14 of 24, then jumps to 24, then shuts down. The error code (after going into the manual updates and seeing why they failed) was 800B0100. Any way to fix this or am I gonna have to re-install the OS?

well i was trying to reinstall vista with the recovery cd/dvd that i ordered. i tried both versions 32 and 64bit on the disc, but whenever it reaches a certain point on disc2 (copying some .swm file 7/9), the error 'copy of splitpart or CRCs failed!' pops up.
i googled about CRC errors, but i think i can rule out most of those things like cable, scratches on the disc, loose connections a.s.o. unless it's something related to hdd.... but i could install non-oem vista without any probs, so not sure if it's really hdd related.
i hope someone can help me out here.

Hmm? maybe you should format the HDD firstly???
Erase all the partitions from the HDD? format everything and try again the recovery disk? maybe some early partitions tables affect the installation?

Otherwise there is something wrong with the Recovery disk and maybe you should order a replacement?

I am on day two of trying to troubleshoot my Windows 7 Professional 64 bit w/ SP1 Clean Install from OEM System Builder Version. This is my Dad's PC that I built in 2010 with the same version of Windows that I installed previously. I decided to Clean Install his PC because I needed the OCZ Vertex 3 120GB & WD5000AAKX-001CA0 Caviar Blue 500GB from his system and needed to downgrade his PC.

The Original System Specs along with all Downgrades Below:
Case: Cooler Master COSMOS 1000
CPU: Intel i7-930
CPU Cooler: Replaced Corsair H70 Watercooler w/ Corsair H80i Watercooler
Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D Premium
Memory: Reduced Memory from 12GB Patriot PGS36G1600ELK GSERIES 1600Mhz to 6GB of the same.
HDD/SSD: Replaced the above mentioned drives with a Samsung 250GB SP2504C
GPU: Replaced BFG GTX 285 OC w/ EVGA Geforce 8800GT
PSU: Replaced Corsair HX850W w/ XION XON-600F14R-201 600W

Before beginning, I used disk management to delete all partitions on the WD 500GB. After finishing the build I proceeded to create a USB Boot drive (diskpart) via the Windows CD & Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. Next I used my PC and disk management to unallocate the Samsung 250GB, and the OCZ Vertex as well (I think this was my demise). I then connected the Samsung, a DVD Drive, and inserted the USB into Dad's PC.

On first start the system started and Posted fine. Changed IDE to ACHI and Switched Boot Priority to USB. Saved, restarted, and checked to be sure it worked. Proceeded to Windows... Read more

I'm receiving the following error when trying to install apps from the Windows Store on Windows 10. It doesn't occur with every program, which makes it extremely frustrating to debug. The Event Viewer is no help, as it provides the same cryptic messages:

Hey, new to these forums.

My laptop is having some crashing issues which I believe is due to a faulty installation of my current Windows 7. I want to re install it with Windows 7 Ultimate as a clean install. When I go to start up the installation and choose to receive updates, I get the error: "Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation. Error code: 0xE0000100"

From what I have read, this is due to a partition problem. Do I need to clear and format all partitions and boot the setup from a DVD? If so, how do I do this? Currently I am just running it using Daemon Tools Lite mounting software.

Answer:Trouble installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. Error code: 0x0000100

Hi there
you can try this

1) boot from Windows install / recovery disk and choose repair system ==>tools ==> command mode

type the following in

Now try and install again.

If you STILL get an error then get into command mode again via the Windows install disk

now type these commands in

Choose the disk you want to install windows on -- or the only disk if its a normal laptop

SELECT DISK X where X is the disk number

(This will re-format the entire HDD - you can easily re-size afterwards with tools like GPARTED).

Now restart and install Windows -- if it STILL fails then you've got something wrong with the laptop.

Answer:Satellite L500 - cannot create recovery disks - 0D00F6-49-00000001 error

Is this the first time you try to create recovery discs?

How you have created 2 discs if the Toshiba recovery disc creator starts with error?

Anyway, in this forum you can find similar threads. Probably is some recovery file corrupted and disc cannot be created.
I don?t think there is something you can do about it. Either it works or not. Maybe you should contact nearest Toshiba service and explain the situation. I hope they can help you with this and order original Toshiba DVD disc for you.

You used not compatible disk!
You have to test different DVD from different manufacturers.
Not all DVD from different manufacturers are compatible. There are big differences between the brands? So check and try other DVD

You cannot upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version.

Hi all,
Just inherited a pc, and bought a brand new 1tb hdd yesterday to install windows on. I was foolish at first by not changing any of the bios settings (was a long time since I have done an install) and just left it as it was. I got through to installing windows and it stopped at expanding files with the above error code, which I have heard is really common
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.
Now I am certain there is nothing wrong with the DVD, as it is the same one that has been used on two other PC's. I tried turning it off and restarting, that was when I got another error load up - Bootmgr is missing!
After this I restarted it and changed the bios settings to boot from the DVD drive. I tried doing a repair on this through the disc. Went through all the settings and typed Bootrec.exe/REBUILDBCD in command prompt but that came back fine. I tried clicking startup repair after this but it did not restart, so I just went through the motions and restarted it manually as by this point I was getting frustrated. Upon restart I went through and booted from the DVD, and it went straight through. This time I tried re-installing but deleted all the partitions on the drive which had appeared since trying to install. However the same error message has come up again. Anyone who can solve this for me, I be tempted to send you a box of chocs no matter wher... Read more

Wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command then follow Step 2.2 here to format a smaller install partition and mark Active: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation.

Hey folks,

Been a while since I have logged in here.

But I would like some input on fixing this BSOD. It comes about once a day. Random apps just start crashing (IE) and within a few seconds, the computer BSODs. I saw that it can be due to some bad MSI software.

My tech level isn't horrible, I understand a fair bit about windows and computers.

The .zip file is attached as outlined in the instructions. I appreciate any input and help offered.

Computer is win 7 pro x64 bit sp1 MSDNAA obtained
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3
MSI 870A-G54 mobo

Thanks again,

Answer:BSOD after installing/uninstalling MSI products, stop code 0x0000003b

These crashes were caused by memory corruption.
Run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"

If it's here I can't find it. I'm trying to do a fresh win 7 install. I am using an old original copy of windows 7 home, that I had been using on my my dell D630 untill it finally gave out. I have upgrade Bios to latest version on driver page. The problem is when install gets to final "configureing system" on first part of install it stops with an error "windows cannot continue as it cannot configure your systems hardware." and thats it I had this problem originally with by dell too, as it was not given windows 7 support, and got around it by installing a custom bios with slic 2.1 support. and then it installed fine. so whats the deal here? it appears support and bios has been given win 7 functionallity. or do I need a modded bios? if so where? the two systems are fairly comparable hardware wise. so I know it shold work. thanx for any help.

Hi there,

maybe I can find some help or advice here:
Satellite Pro L350 / 3GB RAM / 160 GB HD / 2x2,00GHz Pentium Core Duo - OS: Vista Business OEM ( as delivered)
The machine stuck during a copy/paste operation from a website to an email and died with stop error 0x00008086. No further info stated.

No info at the MSKB available. Many forums say this is due to a hardware error in SATA controller, something with ACPI mode - seems to depend on this, switching to compatibility mode in bios causes the machine to dispay no more BSOD, but start of the OS or recovery disk is not possible. Does anybody know about this issue or did encounter a similar prob?
Thanks in advance for any (useful) response ...

Answer:Satellite Pro L350 - BSOD stop code 0x00008086

Hi RJ,

Generally speaking such BSOD codes are mostly related to driver or hardware problems...
Before you exchange something or contact an authorized service provider for repair, I would recommend reinstalling Windows from Toshiba recovery disk. This can restore factory settings with all pretested settings and drivers from Toshiba. Usually everything should work properly with it.

If not there is a hardware problem but it?s always hard to say what part is exactly faulty. Therefore you need professional help from a notebook technician.

Answer:Satellite L500-1C7 and Windows 8.1

If Win 8 runs on your notebook properly, then it should be possible to upgrade the Win 8 to Windows 8.1 too…

In order to get Win 8.1, install all Win 8 updates and then access the Windows Store to get the Win 8.1 update.

It should be possible to install the Win 8.1 update in case Win 8 is already up to date.

On you can check if your notebook is supported for Win8 OS.

One more thing: your notebook has Intel HM55 Express Chipset. Interesting is that Tecra A11 with part number PTSE0E has the same chipset and it is supported for Win8 so you can try to use chipset driver offered for this Tecra notebook.

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

I have removed the device and the driver, however on scanning for hardware; vista re-installs the default driver and the same error returns.

Because of this error, I am unable to update the firmware for the drive and the firmware update is unable to see the drive.

Answer:CD/DVD drive issue on Satellite L notebook - error code Code 39

Hi buddy

What to say?this issue is known and caused by wrong Windows registry entries.
Microsoft has released and published some knowledge articles.

Check this:

First of all I recommend removing the CD/DVD drive from the device list in device manager. Then remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Finally reboot the notebook.

That?s all.

PS: you would find this solution also without my help?. You should use the forum search function! It?s helpful!

Did you try to connect this smartphone to different USB ports of your Satellite C850-B252 notebook?

If not do that.

As far as I know the notebook supports one USB 3.0 port and two USB 2.0 ports and it strongly recommended to test all the USB ports.

Furthermore you could use an Y USB cable which allows you to connect this smartphone to two USB ports at the same time. In case this issue is related to low USB port power, such cable might be the solution.

I bought a Satellite L500 with Vista as the os. I upgraded to win 7 using the Toshiba upgrade disc I was sent. Since installing Windows 7 my laptop freezes at any time.
Ctrl-alt-del do nothing.

My only option is to turn it off with the power button. I have installed all the available drivers from the Toshiba site but to no avail. Also, since installing Win 7 the FN key does not work, the touch pad won't work and the eco utility won't work. I have checked all the drivers that I can find and reinstalled or tried to update them. I have looked at the settings for the mouse and pointing device and it all says its working.

I think it is because I can't turn it on with the FN key- FN+F9. I can mute the volume now with FN+ESC (couldn?t a few days ago) I can use the FN key to sleep and lock the laptop but the dim/ brightness keys don't work. It seems they work up to F5 only.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500 - several issues with Windows 7

Hi joey,

Can you find any information in Windows event viewer about this freeze?

You should check the device manager for unknown devices or yellow exclamation marks. Maybe it?s a driver issue.

Regarding the FN keys you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. They are required for FN keys and then you are able to enable/disable the touchpad (FN+F9).

Last but not least check the Toshiba page for a Windows 7 version of Eco Utility.

What about Drivers for Windows XP (32-Bit)?

On the Toshiba Driver Site for this product there are only drivers vor vista 32 bit and vista 64 bit...

where can I find drivers for Win XP??? Or do the Vista drivers work for Win XP, too??

I cannot test it now because I first want to ensure that it will work with win xp, after I wanted to install it..

Answer:Satellite L500-164 Drivers for Windows XP?

The Satellite L500 doesn?t support Windows XP, it supports only Vista 32bit and Vista 64bit. Windows XP is pretty old OS, it? the past. Now it?s Windows Vista or Windows 7.

If you want to install XP you have to collect the drivers by yourself on external websites, like Intel, Realtek and so far.

But to be honest be happy with preinstalled OS. All new notebooks are fast enough for Vista. ;)
