Satellite L500-1ZP - Sound problem after bios update

Question: Satellite L500-1ZP - Sound problem after bios update

Yesterday is installed the bios update, and everything went ok. The only problem is when I now plug in my headphones, the sound also comes out from the laptop speakers. Before the bios update only the headphones made sound when I had them plugged in.

What can i do about this?

I have Windows 7 x64

Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Satellite L500-1ZP - Sound problem after bios update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500-1ZP - Sound problem after bios update

Problem fixed. I reinstalled the drivers.

Sorry for not trying this at first.

I recently received an Satellite L500-1XL, working just fine until i gave it to a friend...
The problem is that he updated the bios to V 2.10 (don't know why) and since then the image on the display appears like 15.4" even in bios.

Any ideas what could cause the problem?

Answer:Re: Satellite L500-1XL - display problem after BIOS update

Can you please make a pic how it looks like and post is here?
2.10 is right version and I really don?t understand what the problem is.

Is Toshiba welcome screen shown as usual?

That’s very strange. Do you use original RAM modules that you got originally with your notebook?

I've been re-organising my nephew's laptop (part number Satellite L500-19X PSLS0E-00F01DEN), tidying files etc, applying outstanding updates etc and foolishly agreed to the Toshiba's utility offer to upgrade the BIOS which totally froze part way thru (at step 11 of 37 IIRC).

I've now got nothing but a black screen.

As I do have some IT skills, I've looked around and was going to go down the WINCRIS.EXE route creating a bootable USB drive to try and recover that way.

However, the latest BIOS for this laptop seems to be an .exe file, not a zip file from which I could extract the boot rom.

Guess I still have the option of taking the drive out of the laptop to try and recover the backup bios file the update utility said it saved to another machine anduse that to try to regress that way, but I would appreciate any advice - or indeed a bootable image - anyone could offer.

Guess I'm hoping for too much to think Toshiba themselves could supply such an image...

Answer:BIOS update bricked Satellite L500-19X

>However, the latest BIOS for this laptop seems to be an .exe file, not a zip file from which I could extract the boot rom.

The exe file isn?t ?real? exe file but it?s a package.
You can extract this exe clicking right and choosing ?Extract here??

I use WinRAR to extract the packages. Also WinZip or 7Zip should work.

But to be honest I?m not quite sure if you would be able to fix this issue.
From my knowledge an BIOS crisis disk would be needed to reflash the EPROM module and usually this can be done by Toshiba authorized service provider

However, please keep us up to date.

Hi there

I am looking for a Bios Microcode update Satellite L500-1EN to support CPU Intel T7300 SLA45.
The previous CPU was Intel? Celeron? Processor 900 SLGLQ
The latest Bios is

The system powers up, but there is a F1 prompt, after that the system boots normally.
Thanks in advance

Answer:BIOS Microcode update Satellite L500-1EN

Such updates are not offered on public download page so what you can try is to contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help.
I?m pretty pessimistic about that because Toshiba doesn?t support CPU exchange or upgrade. I presume you know that. Do you?

I attempted to update my BIOS on my notebook because it was suggested on Tempro, and now I wish I hadnt have bothered.

My laptop has now been updating for 3 hours at the programming step 3 of 37 stage on BIOS flash and is completely frozen it wont do anything at all.
I know I shouldnt turn it off,but gave that a try and even that wouldnt work.

Its just sat humming and I dont know what to do with it.

Any ideas would be great

> My laptop has now been updating for 3 hours at the programming step 3 of 37 stage on BIOS flash and is completely frozen it wont do anything at all.

The Bios update takes several minutes to complete. it looks like that the Bios failure process goes wrong. If you turn it off, you will get a blank screen. I even don't know what to advise you. You can wait but I don't think it finishes well.

The bad thing is that you have to go to ASp (service center) and ask them to reflash for money. Unfortunately, there is no warranty for Bios failure

Hello, today i was updating my drivers and when i started on my bios it crashed while it was updating. After waitting for a long time and seeing the computer crashed, i turned it off. Surprise surprise, when i turn it on i only see a black screen. Isn't there any way to reset my bios drivers? And if i have to send it to a support center, will they format my disc?

Thanks in advance

There is no relation between Bios and hard drive. They will reflash your Bios, all data on you hard drive will be untouched. But you should know that Bios reflash is not free procedure, you will have to pay.

I downloaded "sln0v190.exe" (Phoenix WinPhlash 64) and extracted to a folder and then selected to run the BIOS flash routine.

I get the following error:
"Failed to retrieve system bios information.
BCPSYS block signature not found
Error Code -100"

As I can not read - and save - the old corrupted BIOS I can not flash the new BIOS!

Any ideas please?

Answer:Satellite L500 - BIOS update error code 100

Hi buddy,

Do you update the BIOS with administrator account?
Have you disabled the security software on your computer?
Is Toshiba Value Added Package installed?
What operating system do you use?

But may I ask you why you want to update the BIOS? Do you have any problems with the computer? If not I wouldn?t do this update. As you probably know never touch a running system ;)

It is just a small thing, but my last Toshiba laptop has the option of booting from USB. I could boot a Linux, and Windows from a USB flash drive, and this was great. So here is my question. Is there a way to boot from USB without a BIOS update?

Well, I know the answer is probably no, so I will ask the next question. Thinking that there is a update for my BIOS, I visited the website, and found out that the only update avaliable is the one I currently have. Next I went to the BIOS makers (Pheonix) website, that directed me to, which scanned my computer to check for updates. It claims that that is a new BIOS update avaliable, but I have to sign up and PAY for a yearly subscription to just get to see what the version number of this update is. So my question is, where is this "update" and does it support booting from USB?

Answer:Satellite L500 (PSLS9A-01U012) - BIOS update better than 1.6?

Hi Hambo,

The point is that not all notebooks support booting from USB device and if it?s possible is described in your user manual.
As far as I know it?s only possible to boot from USB floppy drive on Satellite L500 but not from USB stick?

Furthermore BIOS update does only fix bugs and not add new features so I don?t see a reason for an update.
But if you make a BIOS update anytime, you should download it form Toshiba website. This is the only website there you can get a compatible BIOS.

I have 2 Toshiba L500 one with the T7500 and other with T4200.
The board is the same do, i installed a new processor and both are with t7500.
The problem is that one is now showing the bios code - CPUID: FB NO MICROCODE UPDATE LOADED FOR ALTERNATE PROCESSOR.
The rest it works normal, the Windows 7 64 bits recognize it and temperature is always under the 47 ? C
I updated the Bios but the problem remains. Do you know any bios update to similar model the will fix this?

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards

Answer:Satellite L500-1TU Bios Question - CPUID:FB no Microcod Update

CPU upgrade is definitely not supported and I think you should know this.
There are many different reasons for this >

As far as I know there is no ?special? BIOS designed for such purposes, especially not for public usage.
Try to contact Toshiba service in your country and ask for help.
I don?t think anyone here can help you with this.

I have little problem. I have been downloaded from your website BIOS 2.1 for Toshiba Satellite L750D (PSK32E).

I have been updated BIOS to 2.1 and start problem with sound. When I start game, music or something other only 2 first minutes sound plays properly but then it stops for no reason. No sound at all. I have been reinstalled op system but the problem is still there.

Sound works for 2 minutes only then is completely off. Every start application with sound plays 2 minutes and stop all quiet is. I have made a probe on my mother laptop it?s a twin laptop. I have been updated bios same problem 2 minutes and then no sound. My operating system is win 8 pro 64 my mother laptop is with win 7 x64 premium.

Two BIOS updated 2.1 ver on L750D and the problem is same. Please fix BIOS.

Answer:Satellite L750D - BIOS update 2.1 and sound problem

The BIOS seems to be very old. I was released nearly 1.5 years ago? so to be honest I doubt its and BIOS issue.

I had the similar issue with my other notebook equipped with an Realtek sound card.
The sound appeared again after plugging and removing the headphone jack?
But i could solve this installing the newest sound driver update from Realtek driver page.

But it seems that your Satellite does not support Realtek sound chip but Conexant sound chip.
Therefore the solution might not be useful for you.

However, I think you need to update the sound driver?.I recommend you to google for Conexant SmartAudio HD driver and to test the newest available driver version.
In internet I could found the Conexant SmartAudio HD Driver version for Win 7/ Win 8 / Win 8.1
Not quite sure if this is the newest version but you can test it?.

In order to manually update your driver:

1. Go to Device Manager (right click on My Computer, choose Manage and then find Device Manager in the left panel)
2. Right click on the hardware device you wish to update and choose Update Driver Software
3. Choose to select the location of the new driver manually and browse to the folder where you downloaded the driver

I hope you can help with my sound issues!

I have a Satellite L500 that is 18mth old.

*Problem One*
Back in March I was having problems with my mic/sound. If I had my volume over 50% I would get a terrible squealing feedback sound that was difficult to mute (ie had to press mute a couple of times).

As I had a 2 year warranty I sent it away and they said they fixed it but it was only short term. The problem came right back. The only solution I found to having sound volume over 50% was to completely disable the mic.

*Problem Two*
For the last few weeks I have been randomly getting this high pitched, ongoing squealing sound which usually occurs when I am out in public with my laptop in my backpack (embarrassing!). I have to keep pressing mute to get the squeal to stop. Interestingly, my laptop is muted when it starts. Sometimes my laptop is hot when it occurs. Is this problem due to overheating?

Any solutions for both of my sound issues? Should I send it back to get repaired under my warranty? When I argued that it wasn't fixed the first time, they said Windows is probably corrupt and that isn't under warranty.

Answer:Satellite L500 - Squealing sound and mic/sound issues

This should help you:

+Whistling sound on the Satellite L500+

This issue occurs if the microphone volume in the speakers properties is enabled.
After disabling this point the issue with acoustic feedback does not appear anymore.

So this is not a hardware problem but setting issue. Using right settings will help you.

Hi Guys,

Yesterday, my mother-in-law was using her computer, and playing some game. The computer froze and I had to force a shutdown. Upon reboot, the computer continued giving the following message:
PXE-E61: Media check failure, check cable (Or something similar)

I removed the HDD, and replaced, it, with no avail. I checked the BIOS, and the HDD isn't even registering in there, so not sure what the hell has happened.

Anybody have any ideas on this? I'm looking at a new HDD otherwise.

Answer:Re: Satellite L500 - HDD not recognized in BIOS

If the HDD is not recognized in BIOS anymore I think it?s defective and you need a new one. This would be the reason why you get a PXE boot message at start up.

Is your notebook still under warranty? Then you can get a new HDD for free from an authorized service provider.
Otherwise you have to buy it yourself but it?s not expensive. You can use every 2.5? HDD with SATA interface.

Once the system is switched on, the system waits idle with a blinking black screen.

Even if we press F2 the system wont start the bios.

It was of no use.

Please advice.

Answer:Satellite L500-21T cant access the Bios

Did you press the F2 immediately after the notebook has been powered up?
Try to press F2 several times?.

But to be honest it smells like a serious hardware issue? motherboard or graphic card issue maybe?

I don?t see many solution proposals for you as to checking the hardware parts? but this is a job for notebook technicians?

Good afternoon ,

My problem is I have a Toshiba L500 - 246 to that for oblivion , put a password on Windows 7 and now can not remember .

I decided to start from scratch and remove the entire computer. I clean the fan, I put thermal paste to the processor and graphics, and decided to delete all partitions and create a single .
Wanting to boot from the DVD, I went to the BIOS to change the boot BOOT, and on the first screen I get the following message: "HDD / SSD Not Installed ". I changed various settings in the BIOS, but still the same.

When I enter the Windows 7 DVD, you read me well until the window that says it needs the disk controller, and in that window I do not see any disk. I tried it with two SATA disks, and I get the same message.

Putting his ear to the hard disk when the disk starts the laptop makes the characteristic sound of light, but still not leaving anything in the BIOS.

Now, entering the browser to find the driver , I get the following:

An X Boot Disk: 30 MB of capacity

The USB flash drive appears as drive me C :

And finally, I get the CD as drive D :

Why might this be?
Why do I get the USB as a disk C ?

Thanks and regards

Answer:Satellite L500-246 - HDD not found in BIOS

Your posting is really confusing.

First of all it would be useful to know if the HDD or SSD drive is listed in the BIOS (first BIOS page)
If its listed, the HDD is OK and you follow with system installation
If its NOT listed, you should replace the HDD

Lets assume, the HDD is OK and you started the installation.
During the Windows setup you will be asked to add the SATA controller.

On the Toshiba EU driver page you will find the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
This driver contains the SATA files which you could add during the Windows installation.

Hope this helps

Hi all,

Looking for some help here - I have a Satellite L500 series and recently the battery has stopped charging - went from 3 hours to 0% - not charging overnight. Have tried altering the eco settings, holding down the power button for 40 seconds and even a new Power Supply unit (we have these at my work), but nothing seems to work. The only thing I can do without purchasing a new battery is to flash the BIOS.

Problem: I am getting an error saying that the BIOS cannot be flashed because it has less than 10% power. Any idea for a work-around?

I'm more inclined to purchase a new laptop than to spend any money repairing this one (CD drive and a USB port have also stopped working) but want to try everything to keep the ol' faithful going.

Any hints or tips?

Answer:Satellite L500 - cannot flash BIOS

To flash the BIOS using win-based version, the battery needs to be charged.
If it?s not charged, the BIOS update process would not start up.

But why you want to update the BIOS?
BIOS update does not solve the problems with CD/DVD drive or USB ports.

i have a toshiba laptop psl48l-0200u and have downgraded to XP professional, but realtek audio does not work.
Upon launching the Setup there is an error message "realtek audio install failed".

I think this may have to do something with bios - so i have downloaded Bios for XP and extracted to one folder - but how to update bios.

please help

Answer:Satellite L40 PSL48L: No sound and Bios update after XP installation

What to say? firstly if you have installed the XP on your notebook then you should also update the BIOS to the Win XP version.
The BIOS update must be performed under running Windows XP!!!
Just simply execute the exe file and follow the instruction in the screen.

Regarding the sound issue.
Well? this issue is not related to the BIOS but you have not installed the necessary XP patches!!!

Did you check this forum for similar issue? I don?t think so.
I?ve found this for example:

or this

As you see you need the KB888111 and KB835221 hotfixes

Hello everyone,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-1HW, and today TEMPRO shown to me three alerts, one of them about a BIOS update. When I tried to run the BIOS update application (Phoenix UEFI WinFlash) it completed the first four steps, "Load new BIOS", "Analyze old and new BIOS compatibility", "Read old BIOS" and "Save old BIOS to backup file", but when it reached the las step, "Flash new BIOS", it got stuck showing the message "Programming Bios region...". Now the laptop is on and actually I can use it since the BIOS update application does not block the system, but I don't know what to do, I don't dare just to finalize the program because I don't know if the BIOS is right.

Please help me with this problem.

Thank you.

Answer:Re: Satellite L500-1WH stuck when updating BIOS

Maybe your Virus Scanner or another security application is blocking the BIOS access? Try disabling them and see what happens.

Also check if there is a UAC prompt in the taskbar.

Hi Evan,

On which Toshiba website you have searched? Notebooks are country specific products and by using Google I have founded your notebook on the Australian page:

If your notebook model doesn?t appear in the compatibility list, I think this update is not compatible to your model.

Furthermore why you want to update it? This update should only be done if your notebook doesn?t work properly. Otherwise it?s not necessary to make a BIOS update!!!

Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is terrible - tinny.

This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference.
Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.

Have an old Statellite approx 5 years old and sound is far superior.

Wait a moment.
Is your notebook delivered with preinstalled Win7 (factory settings)?
Have you noticed this from the first day or now after Win7 installation?
Have you tried to change sound settings in player you use (equaliser)?

To compare it with old notebook is not so relevant. I have 4 years old Satellite M70 with harman/kardon speakers and sound is fabulous and much better and louder than on newer Satellite A300.

Answer:Satellite L500-14F - Need sound driver for XP

The Satellite L500 doesn?t support Windows XP so you have to search on external websites for drivers.

In your case I would search on the manufactures website of the sound chip. Normally there you can also download the sound driver.

And don?t forget to install SP3 before you install the sound driver. SP3 contains 2 Hotfixes for High Definition Audio cards and you will need it!!!

Did you choose the correct BIOS update?

Normally you can hear sound through the notebook speakers if you unplug the headset. Make sure that sound is not muted, you can do this with the key combination FN+ESC.

Regarding the media keys I would recommend reinstalling Toshiba Common Modules. You can find it on the Toshiba website.

Dear All,

I was happy owner of Satellite P100-437 for already 4 months, but last week i start to have big trouble with my laptop. First, next day after i bought the laptop with Vista, i downgrade my laptop to Windows XP SP2 and everything was fine. I had everything working and i enjoyed my laptop a lot. Last week i checked Toshiba web site for new drivers and i downloaded the new bios update 4.00-WIN and i apply it.

After that started the headache. I suddenly lost my sound, but in device manager the sound card is working fine. Besides, the small light in the wireless switch is disappeared and then the wireless device, also stating in the device manager that is working fine.

I backed up all my data, and reinstall win xp, clean, and i installed the sound drivers and nothing changed, the sound is still missing. Same story with the wireless. Yesterday, i witnessed something else, i attached one external hard drive, which is using usb connection and need also usb power, and suddenly the sound and the wireless come back for while, but interrupting and finally disappeared again.

So, now I wonder what to do and any help on this matter will be appreciated. I work on cruise ships and my laptop there is priceless.

Answer:Satellite P100: After BIOS update 4.00-WIN can not use sound card & wireless

Hello Deniz

I told everyone every time: Please do not do anything while OS runs well!!!

Please remember this. The problem is that your notebook is delivered with Vista OS and BIOS is also designed for Vista. You were very lucky to run WXP successfully and now you updated the Vista designed BIOS again. I am really not wondering you have problems now.

What to do in this situation? It is very good questions. Try to reinstall drivers for sound and WLAN. Maybe it will help. Maybe clean WXP installation. I can not say for sure. I have A200 (also Vista preinstalled) and I believe at the moment I have no interest to update anything. Not yet.

Bye and good luck!

Plese suggest upgrade bios ? It'dangerous? now notebook works OK

Answer:BIOS upgrade on Satellite Pro L500 (PSLS4E-00C00HIT)

If everything works well and if you didn?t notice some serious problem there is no reason for update.
It is OK to be informed about available updates but the question is if they MUST be installed.

Generally speaking BIOS update is not dangerous but for some reason it can be screwed up and then you will have big problem.
My advice is: do not touch well running system.

I have two questions:

1. I recently updated my laptops bios version to 2.10 and replaced the harddrive with an SSD.
However, it seems that I cannot enter the BIOS anymore.

I tried multiple buttons but it just won't let me access the laptop's bios anymore.
Which button do I use to enter the BIOS?

2. I would like to upgrade the standard amount of memory from 4GB to 8GB.
Are there any recommended sets of ram I should use in the light of compatability issues?

Thank you for any help in advance.

Answer:Satellite L500-1ZP - Key to enter BIOS version 2.10 and Upgrading RAM

> 1. I recently updated my laptops bios version to 2.10 and replaced the harddrive with an SSD.
>However, it seems that I cannot enter the BIOS anymore.

To access the BIOS you have to press F2 at the beginning of the booting order? immediately after you powered up the unit, press F2 (press it several times in the row)

> 2. I would like to upgrade the standard amount of memory from 4GB to 8GB.
>Are there any recommended sets of ram I should use in the light of compatability issues?

Toshiba Satellite L500-1ZP laptop takes the PC3-8500 DDR3-1066 204pin SDRAM SODIMM RAM type. I would recommend the modules from Kingston manufacturer.
Very good price ? value ratio

Hey all,

Got as Satellite L500 here (PSLS0A-084002). I'm having the battery not charging issue and everything I'm finding points to a BIOS update.

Sure enough there's a new BIOS to download from the laptops drivers page. So I have the WinPhlash file "sl500(mv)_bios_w210.exe". However running it causes it to fall over before flashing the BIOS with a Error Number: 144.

This is due to the battery being bellow 10% charge however I can't get it above 10% charge as the laptop won't recognise it.

There must be a way of getting WinPhlash to run without doing that check. I read you can run it with the "/forceit" switch and that will ignor the error however that was from a while back and it seems WinPhlash have changed that as it still spits out the error.

I read running it from DOS helps but after creating a dos boot cd it claims the exe can't be run from DOS (ffffuuuuuuuu!).

Any help appreciated. Thanks =).

Answer:Cannot flash BIOS on Satellite L500 due to low battery charge

Sounds like WinPhlash can't talk to the hardware directly due to a software problem.

Did you uninstall the Toshiba Value Added Package? Download and install the latest TVAP from -> Support -> Downloads

If it still doesn't work, then your Antivirus/firewall software may be blocking WinPhlash or you need to login to Windows as Administrator.

After a successful BIOS Update to 2.1 two of my three USB Ports aren't working anymore. Is there a way to downgrade to previous BIOS? Or what else could cause this problem?

Have you tried resetting the BIOS to default settings?

Power on the notebook and press F2 to enter the BIOS, then set the defaults (It is key F9 I think).

Also try other USB devices such as a USB Mouse or Keyboard, maybe your USB device is drawing too much power or has a problem.

I got Satellite L300 notebook and I want to update it's BIOS (current v1.50), so I've downloaded bios update v1.60-WIN and when I run extracted PS10160M.exe file - I get a message that "That BIOS is not for your notebook PC".

What I'm I doing wrong?

ps: that BIOS update was automatically suggested after registration on Toshiba website via serial number.

UPD: seems like autosuggestion fail: Manual search shows that 1.60-win bios update not suitable for Satellite L300 PSLBCE model. :-(

Answer:Satellite L300 BIOS update problem: "That BIOS is not for your notebook PC"

You used wrong BIOS!!!!!

The Toshiba European driver page provides an BIOS for this Satellite L300 PSLBCE series and the latest BIOS at this time is 1.50!!!!

At this time your notebook uses the latest BIOS!!!

Answer:Strange sound issue on Satellite L500

Hi Alec_1,

Do you have already tried an alternative media player like VLC media player? In my opinion it?s the best freeware player you can have because it playes all audio and video files. You can download the player here:

Have you already tried updating the sound driver? You can download the newest driver on official Toshiba website. :)

I have bought a new Toshiba laptop yesterday and started using from today afternoon but since then I am experiencing a crackling noise from my right speaker I want to whether there is any problem or it?s because of the moisture.

Answer:Crackling sound from new Satellite L500-1XC right speaker

It is not easy to say what is wrong there but if you have this crackling sound permanently maybe is there some serious problem with the speaker.
Try to contact your local dealer as soon as possible and ask for replacement. In my opinion he should take the notebook back and give you new product.

Hi all,

I'm newly joined here in the forum and I am looking for a sound driver for my Satellite L500-1EJ model laptop which I bought last year here in Doha.

I am really surprised that the model number is not available in Toshiba driver download website!! ??

Can anyone help me please?? I am using Windows XP, service pack 2 now.

Hi shihabuhashim,

Why is the model number not available on Toshiba website? Where have you searched?

I have checked the Toshiba website and I can find it: > Support & Downloads > Download drivers
Notebook > Satellite > Satellite L Series > Satellite L500 > PSLS0E > Windows XP
(Satellite L500-1EJ belongs to PSLS0E series)

Now download the sound driver that you need but it?s recommendable installing Service Pack 3 before you start with driver installation because it contains important updates.

Hope I've got this in the right place.

Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"

This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.

I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Furthermore the Toshiba website shows me BIOS update for Satellite L500. You should try this update, maybe it works.

Alternative I would try the sound driver from Realtek directly. Maybe on the Realtek website you can find a newer version.

Answer:Satellite L500-1Q9 - Update for display driver

Is it really a display driver issue that you need a new version? If you need a newer display driver for games you should update the DirectX version first and have a look if the game is compatible to your graphic card.

If you can?t find a newer display driver for Satellite L500 check other notebook specifications. Other models like Satellite L650 also have an AMD graphic card and there you should find a newer version. :)

I have just purchased a toshiba Satellite L500-13v laptop to use for general and studying purposes and am having problems.

Firstly music, when listening to music i keep having problems, the laptop will maka a horrible noise that i can only compare to the sound made when you put a cd into your car stereo and it doesn't like it.

When making this sound the laptop also seems to pause for a sec or so then continue.
This has happened when playing from cds, the hardrive and streaming straight form the internet.
Also got progressivelly worse, never at the same moment on a song or game always randomly.

Went back to the store and they said it sounds faulty and replaced the machine . . . . . .
The new one has started doing it.
On a game played online (with sound) it seemed to freeze and make this sound and everything stopped and also when streaming again.

This is a 4gb machine and at these times i would never be using more than 1.5 gb of ram.

This is meant to be everything i need computer wise for the next four and i am getting more and more concerned there is a problem.
I was told at the store this i a very new model, could this be one of those problems you only find once a model goes out??

Plese Help???????

Answer:Satellite L500-13v freeze and make sound while playing online game

In my experience many games (online) would affect the notebooks functionality if the graphic card driver is not fully compatible or too old?

1.)Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
2.) Insert a formatted 1.44MB diskette in the floppy disk drive.
3.) Execute the extracted *.exe file in the temporary folder. Follow the instructions on the screen. A BIOS update diskette will be generated.
4.) Ensure the Notebook is connected to the mains.
5.) Turn the Notebook off.
6.) Place the diskette containing the BIOS upgrade in the floppy disk drive.
7.) Turn the Notebook on with the F12 key.
8.) The BIOS boot menu appears. Select "Removeable Device", "USB Floppy Drive" or the diskette symbol using the arrow keys. Press "Enter".
9.) The Notebook will boot from the BIOS upgrade floppy diskette.
10.)The BIOS update will start automatically.
11.)After a few minutes the Notebook will switch off automatically, remove the diskette and make a restart. If it does not then remove the diskette and turn the system off and back on to restart the Notebook.

Sounds like the BIOS Update needs at least 20% battery charge so you either need to update the BIOS with another battery or send the notebook to a Toshiba Repair center to do the BIOS update.

Secondly the BIOS update is not very necessary in case your notebook is running properly.
Do you have some problems using the notebook? No? Well, in such case I would not touch the BIOS.

However, the error message says something about ?secure boot?
Secure boot is an option available in the BIOS settings. Probably you would need to disable this secure boot before executing the BIOS update file.

I have two problems with updating the BIOS (the 1st is more important then the 2nd one):

1. While trying to install BIOS Update 6.70-WIN (29/11/13) it says that:
"The version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS"
and it stops. In the DOS window it shows one phrase:
"NOT Windows 8 Platform, using Windows 7 update...".
I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit system but recently there has been major automatic update done to it.
I got lost. Is there anything I can do to update BIOS?

2. Earlier it says that Flash process will be terminated and I need to "contact OEM BIOS engineer to add the NV storage location by HISII interface". But if I want to risk I can continue etc.

Previously I took the risk and updating went well.
But is there possibility to contact OEM BIOS engieneer?

>While trying to install BIOS Update 6.70-WIN (29/11/13) it says that:
>"The version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS"

What is the present BIOS version which is available on your notebook?
In case the BIOS is already up to date, the BIOS flash procedure will be interrupted.

>"NOT Windows 8 Platform, using Windows 7 update...".
I?m not quite sure about the meaning of this information but it looks like the BIOS update was released for Windows 8 system and probably its required to upgrade the system from Windows 7 to Windows 8 in order to be able to flash the BIOS

By the way: why you want to update the BIOS? Just because new version is available?
Please note that BIOS update does not improve the notebook performance but fixes some issues. In case your notebook runs properly, the BIOS update is not very important

Answer:Satellite Pro L300 BIOS update problem

Try removing the battery and AC Adapter and re-seat the Memory Modules or remove any additional Memory, if it still won't boot then you may need to send the notebook to a Toshiba Repair Center for repair. There is an ASP list on the Toshiba Website.

I installed recently the Toshiba Alerts Software - through it I received an alert to install a software for improving my Satellite A200 1GH.
After installing this software I probably updated the BIOS and now I could not start the computer because it is asking for a password already from the bios.
I did not managed any password before.
Please help me solve the problem!!!! Is there a possibility of loosing information with this situation???

Answer:BIOS update problem with Satellite A200

Hi there,

no you cannot loose any information, but in your case I would check for a NEWER BIOS version for your system because there are some threads were other users had the same problem.

A user posted that a NEWER version was released and the problem was fixed, but you must check for it here:

Otherwise it would be necessary to bring the machine to an authorized service partner. If you need a link to find the nearest one in your country:

Good luck

as you had written everything should working!

Was the battery plugged in when you had done the BIOS update?

Do you use the original AC power?

Do you use the Toshiba Power Saver? If yes, set it back to defaults!

I have a problem getting sound working with linux on a 3000 (an N200 0769 in my case) that many other people have reported: sound only works with ACPI off. I asked for help on the Mandriva forums and was told to check if there are any relevant BIOS updates. the readme for the latest BIOS does not list any changes to do with either sound or ACPI so it appears unlikely. However, my BIOS reports itself (during bootup) as 2.03, and it appears to be 68ET31WW. This does not appear in the summary of changes in the readme which jumps from 1.02 to 2.02! Does anyone know what has changed between 2.03/68ET31WW and the latest (3.03/68ET35WW)?

I have a Lenovo y510p laptop (750m sli) with windows 8.1 operation system and 8gb ram. (vbios updated). Maybe a year ago -when I had windows 7- it started to freeze (black screen) when I play games with SLI and I had to manual restart the computer. Now I have windows 8.1 operation system but the problem is the same, only the game stops with error message and the realtek driver says that "A jack has been plugged in" (??).I also have a problem with the sound system. Sometimes the left speaker is quieter then the right one and if I increase the volume to maximum then back, it works well again. (windows 7, 8, ubuntu)I have 170W adapter so it can't cause the problem. Yesterday I update the system bios from 3.05 to 3.08 and the the sli problem is nearly gone. The game sometimes start fps drop (and I hear the gpu fan go down) but it isn't crash or freeze. The sound problem has not appeard since.I wanted to bring back it to the lenovo service but I don't know what to do now.Does anybody have a changelog for the system bios update since 3.05?

I updated my bios a few days ago and I have a problem with my sound.
Immediately after the update the sound didn't work at all: No Sound was detected.
So I had a look in the device manager, I found 2 entries which were called: "Unknown Device"
I selected update on both entries, the updates were successfull and my sound card "Realtek HD Audio" was now displayed in "Sounds and Audio devices".
The sound was working after that.

But the sound is always stuttering now. Maybe a few seconds the sound is pretty good, then it breaks for a fraction of a second and goes on again. It wasn't like that before the update. Also if the computer have to calculate more, e.g. if I'm using the internet, then it's stuttering even more.

Should I try to set the default settings of my bios (although I've never been in the bios before)?
Any other solutions?

Please help me for that...

Thanks a lot in advance!

i have a satellite P100-473 upgraded with 4Go ram, using ubuntu 10.04 lucid 64 with nvidia driver.

Problem with temperature oft the GPU rising to high (more than 100 ?C) using sensors applet to check.

I guess it's a BIOS and driver problem.

Under windows 7 x64 i don't have this problem with the last nvidia driver (using speedfan to check temperature)

I decided to flash the bios with the last version => BD1_BIOS(V4.80)_Update.exe as i have the 4.0 version actually, and while flashing same error than you error -121. dxe update etc ...

While the .exe extract the content of the flash on your c:\tmp i'm going to try a flash bios with a usb bootable stick and phlash.exe with the BD13C43.WPH.

The problem is to find the official dos phlash.exe .. phoenix doesnt provide those kind of tools ;(

I understand the need to simple flash bios under windows .. but i don't understand the missing .iso for flashing at boot when the operating system doesnt match ...

If you have any clue thanks ;)

Toshiba has offered old traditional BIOS updated (floppy) long time ago. Now you can find WIN updates only.
You can try to contact nearest Toshiba service and ask if they have traditional BIOS update.

I have a L750-201 and is is eligible for Windows 8. Currently Windows 7.
I figured I would update the BIOS (current version 2.6) to the later version (3.6) which has some changes relevant to Windows 8 I understand.

I downloaded the BIOS update file and executed it. I had several options. One of these was to do the update from Windows, and another was to create a boot CD to do it on BOOT.
I created the CD and restarted the machine with it. All seemed to be fine but when the time came to flash the bios I got the message about the battery needing to be above 10% and the mains adaptor plugged in. So the BIOS update refused to start.

The problem is, the battery was at 100% or near as I had just fully charged it. Also the mains adaptor was in and powered. So where does the BIOS update utility get its info that the batter was less than 10%?
I have seen similar posts from other people but the problem was usually that the battery was in fact below 10% and wasn't charging. This is not the case here.

No matter I thought, I can update the other way through windows.
So I booted the machine and ran the flash utility from Windows. The system gave me the usual warning message as expected and then the machine restarted. It went straight into windows with the "Welcome" splash screen, then paused a short while, then went to a black screen with just the pointer in the middle. I assumed it was doing something as the drive light seemed pretty active. However after an age, nothing had ... Read more

I downloaded new BIOS version (v1.4) from official Toshiba website to update my computer Satellite L500D (PSLK0A - 00U009). But after update, Windows 7 cannot boot, the Windows logo displays for a while then it restarts automatically. The Windows then goes to Repair mode. I followed the instruction given on the screen to fix it. But it doesn't work.
When I reinstalled Windows, the computer worked fine until Windows Update told me to restart the computer. The computer dies again.

I think this BIOS version has a problem. I wonder if there is any way to downgrade the BIOS to older version. I found some instructions on net to use Phoenix Recovery disk but I don't have Floppy and BIOS file.
Please please HELP, very appreciate.

Answer:Re: Satellite L500D - Booting problem after BIOS update

Try to install OS again using original Toshiba recovery image. After doing this disable automatic Microsoft updates installation. When you get the message about available updates check them at first and install important updates only.

Check this one more time to see if the same will happen again. Post the results.

Toshiba's TEMPRO facility has notified me there is a BIOS update (published 07 Apr 2010) to be installed.

When I first received this notification I downloaded the .zip file and extracted its contents - BIOS_UPDATE_V170.exe - but on executing this file I received a pop-up error saying <"c:\" folder is not accessible>. I decided there must be a bug in the installer which would be corrected in time, so I did nothing and waited.

Today I received another notification that the BIOS update was available, but once again I get the same error. My c:\ folder looks OK to me!
The extracted BIOS file is in C:\TOSHIBA\ARSENAL10_10G_BIOS_UPDATE_V170_WIN where I extracted it to (having initially tried running it from my downloads folder, I thought I'd try from somewhere else, but it seems to make no difference).

Can anyone offer any suggestions? All assistance greatly appreciated.
Otherwise, how do I get advice from Toshiba?

Answer:Satellite C660-13r PSC0LE - BIOS update problem

The BIOS version should be mentioned in the BIOS settings.
Power up the unit, press F2 and check the version there.

Furthermore I recommend settings the BIOS back to default settings.
In BIOS settings you will need to press F9 to get default. Then save the changes and exit BIOS.
Reboot the unit and check how many processes are running in the OS background.

I recommend disabling some not essential processes in msconfig.
There you can go to StartUp tab and could uncheck not needed processes.

Good morning everybody!
I have recently performed a factory default installation on the notebook object of this thread followed by Windows 7 update.
I had some problem in reinstalling all the drivers, but I solved it.

Because I always am a lucky guy , the installation of the AHCI driver has brought another undesired issue.

I have a problem in searching and installing Windows updates through, obviously, Windows Update (WU).
When I try to perform an update research, I get this error:? Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running...?.

The first thing I did was to check if WU service was running looking into the service ?tab? of control panel.
Nothing was changed accidentally and in fact the WU service was turned on as always.

The second step, suggested by some tutorials on the web, concerned into stopping the Windows Update service, deleting the ?SoftwareDistribution? folder and turning on another time the Windows Update service. This procedure did not solve the issue.

After many others attempts, I found the solution reading a thread in an Italian forum.

Briefly, the post explains that the issue (more evident on just formatted machines) is caused by an incompatibility of Intel Matrix Storage Manager with some processes of Windows Update. This causes that error appearing without any apparent reason.

The solution is uninstalling the Intel Matrix Storage Manager software and installing a newer one, for example this suggested by... Read more

I have a Satellite L500-1UR, with 64-Bit.

After a Windows Update my grapic board is down. I only have a standard monitor.

Previous i have something with 1300x768.
I cannote use the previos driver anymore.

My Graphic board is Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family.
When I actualize the driver nothing happen.

Under the properties stand, that the digital signature can?t be prooved.
Code 52. I make a system recovery.
The first days it was like before but after another windows update the same failure happen again.

And now i can?t make another system recovery anymore.

Please help me somebody, I am desperate.

Answer:Satellite L500-1UR - Problem with the graphic

Unfortunately I cannot explain what happened exactly with your machine. Maybe you have installed all available updates (important and optional). Maybe the display driver was offered as optional driver.

Anyway, what you can do now is follow:
-try to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore option
-reinstall display driver -
-in worst case you can reinstall OS using HDD recovery option (I hope it works)

If you have more questions you are welcome.

For the past few months my Toshiba Satellite L500-1 is shutting down frequently due overheating, which occurs during intensive use of the laptop (during gaming, photomanipulation etc.). However, I do not know what I can do about this. I will not open my laptop, unless I am told to open my laptop to do a specific task.

Today my laptop shut off again. However, when I turn it back on I noticed something happened with my fan. At this point, my laptop will not overheat fast as usually. Instead of fanspeed of 90+% it stays around the 58 to 60% (according to the Toshiba PC Health Monitor). Nevertheless, I noticed something happened with my fan. After shutdown I noticed that the fan will occasionally make a ticking noise, which is heard once every 10 minutes when the laptop is under intensive use.

What should I do now? This does worry me, should I be worried about this? Maybe another Toshiba user with a similar problem can provide me support. I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L500 - Shutdown and a fan problem

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem can be.
When you use your notebook do you use it placed on the desk?
Do you use it with AC power supply?

Which power profile do you use when notebook shuts down?
Have you tried to change power settings or anything else?

Before you start to use it intensively have you tried to end some background processes, disconnect external devices, just to see if this will help?

Hello everyone,

I recently bought myself a new notebook, the Satellite L500-1C7. It's running fine except for one question that I have: I am aware of the fact, that the battery lasts for only about 2-2,5 hours. But is it normal for the computer to shut down when the battery sign is showing 22% (happens after about 2,25 hours)? Then, after I put the power cable in, the battery sign suddenly shows 5%.
Is this usual or is something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L500-1C7 battery problem

At first I must say that 2,5 hours working time on battery power supply is really great and the same is with my Satellite A300.

To be honest the whole story is a little bit strange for me. Usually before notebook switches off you should hear and see battery alarm when the critical power level is reached.
Please try to change these settings in advanced power settings and watch what happen exactly. set it to 10 or 15% and change also settings what should happen when critical level is reached (standby/hibernation/switching OFF).

If the critical level is 5% I cannot imagine notebook switches off at 22% without this battery alarm message.
How do you know it happens on 22% when notebook suddenly switches off?

I have a friends TOSHIBA Satellite Pro L500 running win7 32bit. It has this boot up problem I have not come across before. When it boots it stops at the screen with F2 for setup and F12 for boot devices and goes no further. F12 brings up the boot device menu and when the HDD is selected the windows boot menu appears safe mode etc, I need to select 'start windows normally' which it then does.

I have tried 'startup repair', updated bios, deleted partitions and did clean install of the OS and also tried a different HDD. Nothing works.

I don't think it is a BIOS virus because no messages appear. is the ROM damaged?
