How to install external speakers on Satellite L500?

Question: How to install external speakers on Satellite L500?

Hi

I have just purchased Satellite L500 (PSLS6A-00X013) and have some surround sound speakers that I want to attach- please could somebody explain how to do this.

I also would like to know do you need to unplug the computer after you have shut it down?
I ask this as I wondered if this was then taking it's toll on the system and it would be better disconected from the power- something I never did with my desktop- but may need to do with this laptop.
Thanks in advance- Wilma

Preferred Solution: How to install external speakers on Satellite L500?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How to install external speakers on Satellite L500?

It will be interesting which speakers do you have exactly.
Anyway, exact notebook specification is not known to me but as far as I know you can connect usual PC speakers (2 speakers + 1 subwoofer) using audio out port.

Please let us know which speakers do you have exactly.

One more thing: for digital audio output notebook must have SPDIF port with optical port.

Hi!

I have L500-13T(PSLJ3E) with 32 bit Vista.

When I connect external speakers, the internal speakers continue to play. So I have sound on both. Other laptops turn off the internal speakers when an extenal one is connected.
How to make the L500 also do the same?

Regards,
David

Answer:Satellite L500-13T - External speakers do not mute internal speakers

First try updating the BIOS to the latest version.

Also check the Sound Settings in Windows - perhaps you can configure this 'feature'.

Also check the HDMI settings, and have a read of the Users Manual.

I have a Satallite L500. I am having problems with my sound.
When I insert my jacks for the headphones and play something, sound comes out of both the headphones as well as the laptop speakers.
I want to turn off the laptop speakers but still receive sound from the headphones.
There is a horrible "echo" when both headphones and speakers are on at the same time. I am new to Vista and for the life of I can't figure out what's going on.

When I first got the laptop everything worked fine. I then bought some speakers for those times I wanted to listen to external speakers.
I would unplug the headphone jacks and plug in the speaker jack.
Ever since doing this, whenever I plug in the headphones the laptop speakers are also playing.

Also, when I first got the laptop whenever I would plug in the headphone jacks, a message would pop up on the screen indicating that the microphone and audio jacks were detected. I no longer get this message.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanx

Answer:Satellite L500: headphones and speakers play at the same time

hi tango123,
i think some sort of "confusion" is in the registry.
just deinstall the sounddriver
after that reboot and reinstall (look for the current driver at toshibas driver downloadsite)
make sure you use a stereo jack!

for the echo issue try to mute the mic to test.

Hi All!

I have bought this new Satellite L500-21T model, the problem is that it frequently has this weird echo sound, it comes and goes whenever there is music / sound playing. Snything from Windows sounds, to movies to anything, it is so noisy and intolerable.

Could anyone help me solve this problem?

Thanks!

Hey,

Can you notice the same problem with external speakers or is it only related to internal speakers?

Furthermore it would be interesting to know if you run factory settings or your own Windows installation?

My dad bought a L500-21T from saudi arabia, riyadh last year which was supported only on toshiba;s hungary site.
everything is fine except for the sound.

It has the latest versio which is 6.0.1.5904.
tried downloading the latest one from realtek's site but it messed up the audio so i rolled it back

The problem is when I plug any headphone on the jack it plays on the speakers too, It's so annoying.
please help me ASAP.

Answer:Satellite L500-21T - sound plays both on speakers and headphones

Hi

Go to control panel -> Realtek HD audio manager.
There you will find options on the right hand side.
I?m not quite sure the name of these options but there you can disable the speakers when the headphones are connected.

Good Day technical dudes.

I have recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite L500D

I'm using a HP L1910 external 19" LCD monitor.

The problem I am having is that I can see the monitor flickering. Particularily darker colours. I change the hertz settings and the resolution and still no change. How do i fix?

Note: With the 2 previous p'c the laptop worked fine. So I know its not the monitor

Answer:Satellite L500 - External monitor flickering

Hi

Does this also happen on battery mode or only with connected AC/DC adaptor? I have founded a similar thread here in forum that the problem was the AC/DC adaptor due a grounding issue.

Furthermore use a high quality cable. You can get it from your local computer dealer.

Hi,
i`m using the Satellite L500-120 Notebook, and before installing Windows 7 the laptop had a very comfortable function, when i applied an external display.
When i closed the lid of my notebook, the desktop was shown on my external display (with the native resolution of the external display), so i didn`t have to
switch anything at the Control Panel. In Windows 7, i`m missing this function. I already tried to use the Control Panel, but there are no settings, which fits
with the earlier ones. I can duplicate the display, in order to see my desktop screen at my external display, but with the notebook resolution of 1366 x 768.
If i extend the displays, then there is only the background image at the external display, but this time with the native resolution.

So my question is, how to conifgure Windows to recognize that i closed the lid, and that the desktop screen has to be shown on my external display?
Or do i have to install one of the Toshiba applications, which i had before, that realized this function?

Thanks for any help!

Answer:Satellite L500 - How to show external display after closing lid?

Hi

I?m not a Windows 7 user because I will wait until it will be released offical but I hope I can help you a little bit:

First of all in Power Management you can choose the action what happens if you close the Lid (e. g. sleep, turn off, etc.). This action should be disabled because otherwise the notebook will shut down or something else.

Then I think you have to install the display driver for your notebook. You can try the Vista driver because the most of them are work on Windows 7.
Then you should be able to set the correct screen resolution for external monitor.

A working display driver is important for clone or extends monitors so check this!!

Greetings,

My name is Boyan and I am from Bulgaria and about an year ago I've bought a satellite laptop from the l500 series ( i can not state which exactly is the model at the moment because my computer is not currently with me and on my user manual the only thing which is stated is that it is for L500/L505/ L500D / L505D . But by memory I think it was the Satellite L500D-ST5506 which is currently not at my dispossal because I gave it for repair for the same problem which I will state down below)

The problem with my laptop is that when I plug a Usb Audio card in my laptop I have a cracking sound when live sound is played trough the speakers/headphones from the external card. I've tried numerous audio cards and speakers/headpohnes which work perfectly fine with other computer, including laptops but the same problem keeps on showing up in the headphones/speakers of my laptop when I am using an external audio card to connect them to the laptop.

The problem is prominent only when the sound signal passes trough an external audio card and it is very annyoing since I use my laptop to create music and i've bought an expenssive audio card and speakers which can not be used with the laptop. I've tried 3 models of audio cards:

M-Audio Fast Track Pro

Behringer uca 222

and a simple external 3d sound usb audio card and the problem still appears.

At first I thought that the problem should be software and I should install new drivers although windows 7 automaticaly r... Read more

Did you try to connect the external HDD to another USB ports?
Do the USB ports work properly in connection with other USB devices?

Does the USB 3.0 device support Win 8.1?

I've read somewhere that I need to download SATA drivers for my laptop and make a windows xp installation disk with the SATA drivers on it???

I've tried searching these drivers but i dont know wich ones i need and how to make the installation disk
Do I copy my original windows XP home cd and put the drivers in a folder somewhere on the disk?

I hope someone can solve my problem because the laptop is just one year old and I dont really want to buy a new one...

Answer:How to install WXP on my Satellite L500-1ZP?

I just hope you have created recovery DVD before you have started to install own OS. After own OS installation you will not have access to recovery data anymore.

You are right. For WXP installation you need SATA driver. How to install WXP on newer notebook models you can read on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB85017Z0000R01.htm

At the end I must say that your last sentence is pretty confusing for me. You have bought notebook designed for Win7 and you want to use old WXP on it. Do you really think you must buy new notebook if you want to install WXP?

Answer:I want to install Win XP on Satellite L500-14F

Hi,

if you want to install Xp on your computer, you need to change Sata Controller in Bios ,,Compatible,, otherwise you will meet a blue screen during installation. It's because of AHCI drivers Then after installation, you can download and install Storage Manager and return AHCi mode in Bios. You can also integrate them into Windows disk.

you can read here:

Hello everyone,

I need some help regarding Windows.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro that came with Windows 7 pro preinstalled and the recovery DVD to downgrade to Windows XP Pro.
I had to change the hard drive so I try to reinstall Windows 7 from the recovery CD but it doesn't work. It say that it is not possible to install this on this machine.

So I tried with the recovery CD of Windows XP and no problem
I prefer to have windows Windows 7 but I don't know how to get it back
One last information, the recovery CD of Windows XP came with the laptop as the one for Windows 7 was made by the shop that sold me the computer.

Thank you for your help

Answer:Satellite Pro L500-1W4 - Cannot install Win 7 Pro after changing the HDD

As far as I know there is no some kind of limitation and if there is no problem with original recovery disc for Win7 you should be able to install it on any HDD that you use with your machine.
I have upgraded HDD to SSD on my machine and recovery image installation worked without any problem.

To be honest it is not easy to say what is wrong there but this Win7 installation disc is somehow suspect for me. I don't know which notebook model do you have exactly but somehow I feel you didn?t get original Win7 disc. Best evidence is WXP recovery disc. The prinziple with Win7 is the same and it must works.

When you use this disc you should have menu as described on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm

This document explains how it works with original recovery installation disc.

I have recently Installed Windows 7 64 bit onto my Mother's Laptop (L500 - PSLJ0A-01E013) and from downloading either version of flash cards from the support site ( [here|http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/computers/satellite/l500/pslj0a-01e013/download?os=25] )

Results in (from what I can tell) only kenotify.exe and the relevant install info being created. Using the other one results in the original one being uninstalled, and then the same thing happening. While kenotify is running, noting happens if I use FN-F6 (brightness down) or FN-F7 (bright up) or any of the other ones.

Also, Toshiba support station doesn't seem to find any "updates" for the software, and it doesn?t even want me to download the BIOS update which I haven't got.

Thanks!

I can't install the drivers for my graphic card on my computer. It's a satellite L500-1C7.
You can see her configuration here :
fabricant : Intel
model: Mobile Intel GMA 4500M

On the intel's website, they said to download the drivers on toshiba's website but here the drivers doesn't install.
During installation a message saying:

"Ce syst?me ne poss?de pas la configuration minimale requise pour l?installation du logiciel. Le programme d?installation va s?arr?ter."

I could traduct it by "the system doesn't have the minimal configuration requiered for the program's installation. The installaion program is going to stop.
I've download this drivers :
02/12/09
Chip Set Utility
Intel Windows 7 - 64 Bit 9.1.1.1019 World Wide

I'm sure this is the good drivers, so what could i do in order to install this drivers what i need?

Sorry for my bad english !

Answer:Satellite L500-1C7 Cannot install Intel graphic driver

Generally speaking it is always recommended to use Toshiba drivers only. Toshiba drivers are tested and adapted to work with graphic card placed in notebook. There is also ?mechanism? to protect graphic card from overheating and damaging.

If you check this forum you will find many users with same problem. graphic card manufacturers write on own download pages that for mobile PCs it is strictly recommended to use drivers from notebook manufacturer.

I believe you think it is good driver but do you also think that Toshiba?s driver is not good or not good enough?

However I am stuck with "standard VGA graphics Adapter" all the other drivers loaded perfectly, ( I installed the Intel chipset driver first and rebooted, so it should be ok but it?s not)

On the Toshiba driver page you can find two different drivers (AMD/ATI and Intel) and a comment: +(For Supported Model Only)+
This means that you should check the GPU and should use the right driver.

Your notebook is equipped with Intel graphic chip. So DON?T install AMD/ATI driver!

What?s the problem exactly? Do you get any error messages?

I have a Toshiba Satellite L70-1DR laptop with Logitech speakers.
A few months back the volume from the speakers reduced slightly.
I simply increased the main volume and that of each player (Itunes, Spotify etc) to sort it.

Then a few weeks ago the sound decreased again. First I connected my speakers to my daughter's laptop and they worked fine.

Then I ensured that the speaker levels in Speaker properties was increased to 100 and I also increased the equalizer in Windows Media Player.
This worked ok although it I was a bit concerned at why it was happening.

However yesterday the sound got even lower and while its listenable if you're sitting beside the laptop its way too low compared to what you'd reasonably expect.
The sound level when I plug in my headphones is fine.

I've been through the troubleshooting procedure and "Microsoft Fixit" no avail.
I've reinstalled the sound drivers - no change.

I've tried switching the different enhancements in speaker properties - disabling all enhancements works best but not good enough!

And I've changed exclusive mode on and off but no change there.

Can anyone out there provide any further advice? Many thanks!

Hello all,

I removed the speakers plug from the jack and when I reinserted the plug I didn't get any sound.
When the external speakers were connected on the laptop I would get a low parasite noise from the laptop speakers.

Now its seems that its the opposite (I hear the parasite noise when the external speakers are not connected).

Sometimes I get very low noise which is not clear and only from one of the speakers (either left or right).

How can I solve this?

I recently acquired a [Toshiba Satellite L650-14E|http://se.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/ro/product/Satellite-L650-14E/1086065/] laptop that came with no operating system.

I installed Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit on it as well as all relevant drivers, including the [latest sound driver|http://se.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?LNG=27&service=SE&selC ategory=2&selFamily=2&selSeries=178&selProduct=537 6&selShortMod=1000&language=all&selOS=30&selType=4 2&yearupload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null &mode=allMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&cou ntry=all&selectedLanguage=all&type=42&page=1&ID=74 199&OSID=30&driverLanguage=42].

The audio chipset seems to be Conexant CX20671 SmartAudio HD. However, when I connect my Logitech 2.1 (2 speakers, 1 subwoofer) audio system through the headphone jack, I have no sound in the subwoofer, only the speakers.

If I right click the sound manager tray icon in Windows 7 and select "Playback devices" then Conexant and Configure, I only see Audio Channels: Stereo and no other options. This is 2010. HD audio has been around for a while now. I sincerely hope Toshiba did not make a modern laptop with only stereo support.

Any help to get the subwoofer going appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L650 - No external subwoofer sound, only from speakers

Does that Logitech 2.1 generate the Base through a standard Analog Stereo Connector?

Or does the ".1" require a separate Audio Cable, or a Digital SPDIF connection?

Maybe try changing the Speaker Configuration to "Desktop Speakers" so the Base is more pronounced.

[Picture|http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/1654/83437185fo1.jpg]

What is the problem.
Do I need drivers and where I can find them.
Please help me.

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite P300-133: External Logitech X-530 surround speakers don't work

Did you connect the speakers to the SPDIF interface?

If yes, try to mark the ?SPDIF Interface? (as shown on the picture) as default.
Then you can try to configure it again using the button ?Configure?.

It would be also very interesting to know what settings appear in the ?SPDIF Interface? properties.

HI everyone, this is my first post and to vary I have a problem.

I have a Satellite A660 11M and when i connect to external 2.1 system sound through 3'5 mm jack i hear the sound from the harman/kardon speakers but not from the 2.1 system.
I have an Asus eeepc and works fine. The cable work flawlessly, so is something in the configuration.

I upgrade realtek and nvidia drivers and continues without working.Always when i connect the cable, realtek config screen pops up and y select line out, but in asus eeepc works and in the toshiba laptop not.

Regards

Answer:Satellite A660 - no sound output after connect to external speakers

Try to check settings in ?Realtek HD audio manager?. You can find it in control panel.
Open it and on the top right side you will see small symbol ? ?yellow folder?.
Click on it and enable option ?enable auto popup dialog...?.

After doing this connect external speakers and be sure the right device is defined there.

On the same principle it works with headphones and it works properly on my Satellite A660. When I connect headphones I can hear sound on headphones only. With other words sound signal goes to external device only.

By the way: I use original Toshiba recovery image with factory settings and there is no problem.

I've just purchased:
"Creative I-Trigue 3400" 2.1 channel external PC speakers for my Toshiba M60 Laptop.

My problem is that their is no sound in the right speaker.

* Headphones/onboard speakers work fine
* I have updated the sound drivers (Realtek AC97)
* The creative speakers work great with my I-Pod
* The creative speakers work great with my cheaper/older laptop.

I have experimented with the sound panel settings including the Toshiba Virtual Sound settings with no success.

any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite M60 - Problem configuring sound for 2.1 external speakers

On closer examination, i noticed that there is a slight (millimeters)overhanging "lip" above the headphone jack.

The creative speaker's are shipped with a heavy duty input jack that gets partially blocked by this overhang - using my cheaper "thinner" input cable solved my problem.

When I plug my headphones in the sound plays out of both my speakers and my headphones. My headphones are not broken and they work elsewhere.

Answer:Satellie L500-1CQ - Sound from headphone and speakers at the same time

Hello

Have you tested other headphones or external speakers? If not you should do this!!!

Furthermore I miss some important informations about your operating system and sound driver. You should try updating the sound driver. The newest version you can find on the Toshiba website.

With Dell Support Assist microphone test -- earphone playback is good, on-board speaker is terribly scratchy. The sound card lists as "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
The laptop is Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional, 236GB used, 214GB free space, Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor, 64 bit OS, 4GB memoryThe built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset and external speakers (both 3.5 mm jack interface) sound good and a HDMI connected projector sounds good.
I will appreciate advice.

Answer:On-board speakers are scratchy but external speakers & headphones sound good?

Hello. As a test, switch from the IDT audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "IDT High Definition Audio Device".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the IDT driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If you get the noise while using the native driver then it is not a driver issue, which would mean there is a strong chance of speaker failure, particularly since the noise is not in headphones. If you would like to replace the speakers I can point you to the service manual.

Answer:Internal speakers stay mute when external speakers disconnected

Hello. After you re-install the Realtek audio driver, run the audio test in the ePSA diagnostic. If you cannot hear tones during the test, then the speakers have failed or become disconnected. If you do hear the tones then the speakers are okay.
You can test the driver by switching it with the Windows native driver.

I need a new keyboard for my L500 and found out, that the keyboad of the P200 (and some other models) seems to be the same (105 keys, num pad, 2 win keys). Are those keyboards 100% compatible or do they just look the same?

Answer:Satellite L500 and Satellite P200 - compatible keyboards?

Hi

In my opinion this question is for Toshiba service and not for user-to-user forum.

Anyway I think that both keyboards are not the same and you should order 100% identical keyboard designed for your notebook model.

Question is: why do you look for keyboards for old notebook models if you can order new one for L500.
On eBay you can get it quite affordable.

When I plug external speakers on my Qosmio x770-135 the internal speakers don't turn off.
Can someonee help me?

Answer:External speakers do not turn off Qosmio x770 speakers

You may check the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel.
In the top right corner, there's a little yellow folder called "Connector Settings?.
There, you could enable the setting "Enable pop-up dialog, when device is plugged in".
Now when you plug in an external speaker or headphones, it pops up and I select the option "headphone" (instead of "line-in"), and then the sound comes out only through the headphones/ext.speaker.

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers twice...no change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

Who told you that you can install recovery image from HDD?
In user?s manuals document is clearly described how to recovery your machine and there is written that you must create recovery DVD.

Anyway, long time ago I saw one interesting thread about similar problem. I don?t have time to search it now but you can use advanced search option and try to find it. I think it must be somewhere in recovery options forum category.

hi there!!

i had a toshiba satellite a300 that unfortunately died... i want to take the hard disk drive from it an put it on my cousin's toshiba satellite l500 laptop...
I siply put it to l500 but it stacks at a point that shows again and again something about media test and more...

What i'm supposed to do?
Te strange (to me that i'm not very computer guy) is that at bios setting shows the model of the hard disk...
I mean that the l500 recognises the drive...please help me...

thanks in advance..

Answer:HDD swop from Satellite A300 to Satellite L500

Hi

Satellite A300 supports the same HDD like a Satellite L500. Both use the SATA HDD therefore the inserted HDD should work.
Its good sign, that the HDD is visible in BIOS. This means that HDD is recognized and in good condition.

I?m wondering what you have done after the HDD has been inserted.
Did you try to install the system using Toshiba recovery disk or another disk?
Did you try to format the HDD firstly?

Try to boot form the system disk and format the HDD firstly.
Then follow with system installation

I just changed from Bose Companion 3 speakers to Companion 5 because the 3 died. The 3 system used a stereo jack plugged into the headphone jack and worked fine until the Bose power supply(?) failed. The 5 uses a USB to connect.

I have an HDMI cable from my TV set top box to computer. Selecting the HDMI input shows only full screen TV display on computer. Also there is a coax cable from set top box to TV tuner card in computer. This allows TV to be displayed via Media Center in an adjustable window and I can open other windows (a browser, for instance) simultaneously. I choose which connection to use on my computer.

Previously with the Companion 3 speakers all sound came from them no matter the source. Now with the 5 speakers the HDMI TV source the sound comes from computer speakers not the Bose speakers. But if I play my music files (using Media Player) or TV (using Media Center) the sound does come from Bose speakers. Also sound from internet (YouTube, news videos, etc.) comes through Bose speakers.

Maybe someone has had this problem and knows a solution.

Answer:Some content from computer speakers and some from external speakers

I'm confused on where you plug in your hdmi set top box. Into your DISPLAY directly using and HDMI in port or some other HDMI in on your PC (like a graphics card?)

Also you have external computer speakers? do they plug in to your pc analog style? I know you said the Bose 5's are with usb.

Hi jc,

Welcome to the Forum.

Never seen one of these before, Try right clicking on the speaker symbol in the notification area, select Playback Devices, You should be able to select the speaker device that you want to use.
Right click enable/disable Hide/unhide
Left Click will allow you to configure the device after selecting Configure
Properties will also give you some options

I hope this helps

Hi all,

I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop and have recently upgraded to windows 7 professional (32bit) from windows vista. Everything seems to be running smoothly except I can get no sound from the internal laptop speakers. When I plug in external speakers in via the jacks on the front, sound comes through fine, but as soon as I unplug them there is nothing. Headphones also work like this too. Under sounds in device manager, it simply says 'High Definition Audio Device', and I'm not sure if I should be downloading some other drivers?

Any advice is welcome!

Hi,

I'm using a Packard Bell laptop, Windows Vista and a Realtek sound card.

I've searched a lot to find how to NOT mute my laptop speakers when I insert something in the audio-out-jack.

The next threads say it's not possible by the hardware:
techspot.com/vb/topic140707.html
techspot.com/vb/topic130170.html
They're closed, so I can't comment on them.

BUT when I dual boot to Ubuntu (using the same hardware), I can easily choose to mute the internal speakers, or the jack, or none at all. So why can't it be possible on Vista?

Answer:Same audio through laptop speakers and external speakers

You answered your own question... It's a software/OS issue. If Vista's Realtek options in the Control Panel don't give you the same options as in Ubuntu, you're out of luck

Hello!

Not so long time ago I asked for help with reinstalling win 7 on my laptop.
The only option was actually to order recovery dvd what I did. Today it arrived.

Problem is or was that some of CDs or DVDs couldn't be read for some reason.

Now it doesn't want to boot from cd it says drive failed.

So what I did I pluged my spare external DVD drive and it booted from that.

However just after few seconds it tells me to set "1st recovery media" and opens the disc in laptop. Tried to insert the disc - nothing, like its not inserted, tried to disable laptops cd - nothing please help

Answer:Satellite A660 - Cannot install Win 7 using external DVD drive

Hi

You should firstly check if the external CD/DVD drive is recognized as bootable device.
Connect the external USB CD/DVD drive and power up the unit.
Then press F12.

Now you will see all bootable devices. Usually the USB CD/DVD drive should appear if its supported. If it does not appear, you will not be able to boot from external USB CD/DVD drive.

In such case I would recommend you to create an bootable USB flash memory stick and to install the Win 7 from USB flash memory stick

Can't install Vista from external CD-player
Options
?03-15-2013 03:03 PM

My Toshiba P100-276 Vista Home Premium has crashed for the last time, so I bought a new hard disk.
The internal CD player had not worked for some time either, but that had happened before,
it would always work again when I re-installed Vista.
Not now, however.
So my pc-guy installed the new disk and tried to install Vista from my USB- CDRom-player.
Which ended in these messages:
http://wikisend.com/download/996858/20130313_160410.jpg
and:
http://wikisend.com/download/363738/20130313_171457.jpg

Googleing this, it turns out you can solve this by changing to 'compability ' mode in the bios, but not in MY bios.
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0402V30000R01NL.htm

Installing a new CD-player would maybe solve it, but would be expensive and complicated at the same time.
I'm writing this using Ubuntu, which btw had no trouble installing from the external CD-player.

Anybody any solutions?

Answer:Satellite P100-276 - cannot re-install Vista from external CD-player

In the past several people have reported about the same problem.
By the way, do you use original recovery disc or Microsoft installation disc?

Easiest solution is to buy new optical disc drive. You can find it on eBay and it is not expensive for this old machine. You can exchange it in 2 minutes and everything will be OK again.

In user?s manuals document you can find the list of all compatible optical disc drives.
Satellite P100 is pretty old machine but if you use original recovery disc it contains right SATA driver.

On the spesifications of the Satelite L500-1V1 it says that there is 4096MB DDR3 RAM with 1066MHz, but why is there only 533MHz in each card?

However I have discovered that my model has been discontinued and I'm not sure what to do.
Any suggestions?

Bear in mind I am a total novice when it comes to computers so nothing too technical please!

With more RAM your notebook will have better performance.
According notebook specification your notebook is delivered with 2 GB RAM but it can be upgraded up to 4 GB.

So buy second 2 GB RAM and upgrade your notebook.

Anyway, your notebook model has Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset and if you need WXP drivers you are on your own. Google is your friend! ;)

I just hope you have created recovery installations DVD before you installed WXP.

I bought a Satellite L500 and brought it home the first day I froze, the only way to switch off was the on off button. Luckily the shop kindly replaced it for me. Took the second Satellite L500 home and the next day it did the same thing! It froze and I rang toshiba and they told me to run recovery disk, I did and it again froze after recovery?

Okay I went back to shop and they again kindly exchanged it for another L500 (why did I bother). Now 4 weeks later after being okay its started freezing again. Now this is a big problem! I am so dissapointed with Toshiba and quite annoyed of to. I rang them an have to ship it off, and telling me to pay an 82 dollar fee and its under warranty. This is not stress a uni student needs!

I decided to google these L500 series and apparently this is quite common the freezing thing? Can anyone suggest a solution?

Answer:Satellite L500 - Always freezing

What drivers are you installing? Maybe a printer driver or something is causing the freezing?

Did you install extra RAM? Run memtest to test the RAM for errors. www.memtest.org

Also try disabling the Wireless LAN. Some Routers can freeze laptops and require a firmware update

Last week I bought a brand new Satellite L 500 laptop with Inter i3 processor, 1 GB ATI graphic card, 4 GB ram, etc.
Everything is OK in general, however, I find the fan to be very very noisy.

I used to own a HP Pavillion laptop and could hardly notice the fan while with my new laptop the fan noise is really loud.
Does anybody know if this is normal or if this could be fixed somehow?

I researched the internet for a solution but I could not find any and apparently nobody is complaining about the fan noise on L 500 laptops so perhaps it is me only that have this problem?

Thanks.

Stefano

Answer:Satellite L500 and Fan Noise

For optimal notebook usage use ?Balanced? power plan. Go to advanced settings for this plan and in Toshiba power saver you can find ?Cooling method? option.
Reduce the level there. I am pretty sure notebooks fan will be much quieter than before.

Hi,

Just bought Satellite L500/01K upgraded to window 7 (32 bit).
Only Fn (F6 F7) key don't work.

Tried to uninstall TVAP and Toshiba flashcards support utility and reintall them, restart the computer and still don't work.
The Toshiba ECO mode utility also don't work but i think this could be because the screen brightness can't be adjusted.

Could anyone help on this matter. Thanks

Answer:Satellite L500/01K - Fn (F6 & F7) don't work

Hi WML,

That means all FN keys work without the FN keys for screen brightness control?

It would be interesting to know which versions of TVAP and Flash Cards Support Utility you have used for reinstalling. On Windows 7 you need the newest versions as far as I know, both must be released for Windows 7.
Check this!!!

If you reinstall the applications, remove all old versions first. Restart your notebook and then install TVAP firstly. After one more restart you can install Flash Cards Support Utility and all FN keys should start work.

Last but not least ECO mode utility should also be reinstalled. ;)

Hi,

My brother's Laptop refuses to start up, It won't even let me get into Safe Mode by pressing F8, I have to hold the power on button but when I let go the power light comes on for about a second but then disappears.

This happened after It asked him to do a System Restore at start-up, but then it didn't boot up after that, Any help?

Answer:Satellite L500-DT1 won't Start Up

Hi,

Can you enter the Bios pressing F2 on powering up? Have you tried to restore from Hdd recovery? You say that has started after trying to do a System restore, so I guess the bootsect.exe corrupted... If you have Windows live Cd try to boot up from it.

Hello Everybody!
I am Tibor from Hungary. I am not a big forum user but now I would need a little help.

I have a Satellite L500-1GE and I use Windows 7 ultimate (64bit). My problem is the following:
I can not use the hotkeys (FN + F1..9 buttons) and so I can not switch on/off the wireless. It always work (the led of wireless always burn). I downloaded the value package, hotkey, accesibility driver but bootless. In base without drivers some application work (ESC, F1, F5, F6, F7) but I setup the value package nothing work.

The most important function for me it is the the wireless switching (FN + F8) because if it always work I can not use my notebook full accumlator capacity.

Could you help me about this problem?

Thanks so much for your help in advanced and I wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for the NeW Year!

Kind Regards,
Tibor

Answer:Satellite L500-1GE - Can't use hotkeys

Hi

For using the FN keys you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards supports utility. Make sure that both versions are released for Windows 7 64bit already. If you choose a Vista version it will not work!

Here you can download all:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Value Added Package must be installed firstly. ;)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to replace the existing 2Gb factory fit memory with 2 x 4Gb .

I've purchased the memory after confirming the memory requirements by manufacturer and model.
When installed the Bios correctly reports 8Gb installed yet when I allow the computer to boot the screen sits blankly with a cursor blinking in the top left corner. Leaving the unit for up to an hour makes no difference.

I've tried to load each sim individually with the same result and have replaced the memory once already with the supplier to no avail.

The memory supplier has now suggested going back to Toshiba (I guess out of desperation).

Am I doing anything fundamentally wrong ?

Hi!

I would like to ask for your help in the following problem:

I bought a Toshiba L500-14Z (PSLJDE-001007G3) and I would like to use it with windows XP.
I read that I must find the drivers manually for my hardware-s, but I am not sure...
Which models have the same Chipset, LAN, Soundcard, Videocard, WIFI?

I found only this information, and it was not enough for me:
(I mean it is not too specific about the given hardware parts...)

- T6500 Intel GM45 Express chipset
(Any other GM45 Chipset driver can be used, or should I search for one with the same processor?)
(Is the soundcard included in the chipset driver? If not... what sound driver should I use? - I didn't find any specification about the soundcard.)

- Intel WiFi Link 5100 network adapter
(Is it LAN + WIFI?)

- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570

I would really appreciate your help!
Thx!

Answer:Satellite L500-14Z - Need XP drivers

Hi

As you said the notebook supports the Mobile Intel(R) GM45 Express Chipset.
The driver can be found here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=3032&lang=eng

The Wlan card is Intel WiFi Link 5100AGN and the drivers are here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads

The graphic card is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570.
I think you will need to check some 3rd party pages for a compatible driver because I didn?t find anything on the Toshiba page?

I'm currently having issues with my Toshiba Satellite L500 series. The problem being, I can run purchased audio CDs, as well as DVD movies, but I can NOT run DVDrom games. Music CDs automatically start up Media Player just fine, as well as movies with their corresponding players.. DVDrom Games (such as Dragon Age Origins and Left 4 Dead) will not read, nor be recognized. When I go through "Computer" and try to access the game, it says "No disc available. Please insert disc into D: drive". So from what I'm understanding, the CD/DVD rom can not be completely broken if it is reading all types, except for DVDrom games.

Can someone PLEASE help me with this! It's rather frustrating since my computer is just now at a year old! I'd hate to think all computer companies sell computers that fall apart after a year.... I was hoping it was different with Toshiba.

Once again, CD/DVDrom can read CDs and DVD movies, but NOT DVDrom Games. Please help!!! Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite L500 - Can't run DVD-ROM games

Hi adecker,

Maybe it?s caused due the upper and lower filters in registry. You should try removing it as you can read in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

I had a similar problem that certain disks can?t be read anymore. So I went thorugh the forum and founded out to clean the CD/DVD drive lens by using a microfiber cloth. Be careful if you do this and don?t scratch the lens.
Check this!!!

Recently I noticed that my newly acquired Toshiba Satellite Laptop's fan (Windows 7 64 Bit, Pentium T4300) is permanently running at approx. 50% (according to the Toshiba PC Health Monitor), even if there's 0% CPU usage.

Is this normal?
Or do I have to change some settings in the BIOS or something?

I also believe this effect started after a BIOS update which was released by Toshiba a few days ago...

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite L500-1C7 - FAN runs at 50%

Hi

Did you load the default settings in BIOS after the update?

Furthermore you can adjust the cooling method in Windows Power Options. There you can set the cooling method for each power profile, for example Maximum Performance or Battery Optimized. I would recommend choosing the Battery Optimized cooling method, it?s enough in my opinion and the notebook is more silent.
Check this!!!

Hello, I have to replace my whole heatsink on my Satellite L500-1XZ. Any idea where I can find a heatsink for that model, because I searched and searched and can't find anything yet.
The exact model is L500-1XZ PSLJHE
number on the heatsink is: AT0920020V0 AVCS 0A 101E

Please if somebody have any info about where I can find heatsink help me! Thank you!

Answer:Re: Need new heatsink for my Satellite L500-1XZ

I my opinion all L500 have the same construction and I also think that you must simply search heatsink for L500. With a little bit luck you can find it on eBay or googling around.

Other way contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask if you can order a part with this part number. I hope they can do this for you.

If you use original OS that you got with your notebook you can create new recovery DVD using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator software.
You can also try to reinstall original recovery image using HDD recovery option - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite L500, switched it on and the first thing it is doing is going to the "System Recover Menu". Is this what it is supposed to do???

I selected the 64 bit option and now it comes up with a big "WARNING" that all my data will be overwritten. HELP please...do I go ahead with this system recovery stuff.

This is a brand new laptop never been switched on before.

Answer:Question about Satellite L500

This notebook model is not known to me but I presume your notebook is delivered with Vista 32-bit and Vista 64-bit operating systems. When you start it for the first time you must make decision which one you want to use.

If you choose 64-bit version other one will be deleted and you can use installed version only.
So think twice before you choose OS you want to use.

Later when the OS is installed first thing you should do is to create recovery installation DVD. If something goes wrong you will be able to install chosen operating system using this disc.
For DVD creation use please preinstalled "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". I am pretty sure shortcut for quick start you can find on the desktop.

You have to download Toshiba Value Added Package that you can find on the Toshiba website.

Hi

i bought this computer about a month ago and for the past week it has begun freezing for no reason.

I could be using the internet or i could be using Word it could even just be sitting there idle and it freezes up.
Ctrl Alt Del dosent even work the only way to rectify the problem is turn the power off and restart. I brought the computer because i am doing a uni degree online and this really isnt helping.

Answer:Satellite L500 keeps freezing

Hi

Did you notice an higher temperature while notebook freezes?
In most cases an higher, internal temperature could be the reason for such similar notebook symptoms.

How about new OS installation?
Did you try this?

If not, I recommend running the HDD recovery which would allow you to reset the unit back to factory settings?

You should also check the RAM using an memtest tool...

I have an 4-5 years old Toshiba L500-128 and I'd like to upgrade the CPU. Atm I have a Core 2 Duo T6500. I know that I can put a T9500 in it, but if possible I'd like to put even a better one. So I have a few questions:

1) Can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB speed and will it work? T6500 has 800 FSB.
2) Can I put a CPU with 44 or 45W TDP? T6500 has 35W.
3) If answer is yes to both previous questions, can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB and 45W?

Is possible I'd like to put something like T9900 or even a Quad Core.

Thanks in advance :)

Answer:CPU upgrade for Satellite L500-128

>1) Can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB speed and will it work? T6500 has 800 FSB.

In my opinion you should check the chipset compatibility and the CPU support.
As far as I know the notebook?s motherboard supports the Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset

On Intel Ark page I could find the Intel mobile GM45 chipset specs and compatible products:
http://ark.intel.com/products/35134/Intel-82GM45-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller-Hub

However, fact is that new CPU needs to be supported by the chipset and BIOS.
If one of the parts (chipset or BIOS) would not support the new CPU, the notebook will not boot up.

Additionally you should also know that notebook manufacturers don?t support CPUs upgrade.
What does this mean exactly?

This means that even if the chipset would support new CPU, the BIOS could be the troublemaker and would not support the upgraded CPU. From my long experience, there are no information about the BIOS support. Therefore the CPU upgrade is always an risky procedure. Maybe it will work, maybe not?
