Preferred Solution: Satellite L500 laptop only starts with power supply

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500 laptop only starts with power supply

When the operating system is loaded is battery recognized properly?

Anyway, this behaviour is not normal and maybe you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can check battery and power supply electronic and see what is wrong there. Warranty is valid so new battery or repair will be for free.

Hi all,

My Toshiba Satellite A30-871 notebook has started discharging the battery whilst the mains power supply is connected (The LED shows that AC is connected but Laptop consumes battery power instead of charging battery and using AC power). When the battery reaches 0% laptop will switch off. Removing the power plug and reconnecting does not solve the problem while the computer is ON, only shutting down computer starts the battery to charge. Which means that I can use laptop as long as battery retains some power. Sometimes when the notebook is off and battery is being charged, battery charging LED starts to blink and I have to remove the power jack and plug it back.

I don''t think its a loose power connector because the light shows the power is connected.

I wonder if anyone got a solution for me.

My Satellite L500 gets too hot and shuts down without warning. First I thought that the fan is defect as it will not start unter Vista SP2, but when I reboot it works while on the BIOS level.

But as soon Vista takes over during booting the Fan stops. I tried Speedfan but this is somehow not able to start the fan. it neither reads out the fan speed, only the various temperatures.

I am not sure but may be this problem occured after I upgraded to Vista SP 2 two months ago which was not released by Toshiba. It seems that this will not be done by Toshiba anymore but this is another issue.

The notebook is nearly 2 years old and come originally with Vista SP1.
The only thing from software side is still upgrade the BIOS, there seems to be a newer one from Mai 2011.

I cleaned the air inlet by a vacuum cleaner but the main problem is propably not dust but that the fan does not start. Anybody an idea how I can start it? May be a software tool or a setting somewhere in Windows?

Answer:Satellite L500 gets too hot - Fan starts while booting only!

> I am not sure but may be this problem occured after I upgraded to Vista SP 2 two months ago which was not released by Toshiba. It seems that this will not be done by Toshiba anymore but this is another issue.

Are you talking about Vista Service Pack 2?
Service Packs for Windows operating systems are released by Microsoft and not by notebook manufacturers. ;) Notebook manufacturers release only the own drivers for the single notebook devices ;)

> The only thing from software side is still upgrade the BIOS, there seems to be a newer one from Mai 2011.
So did you update the BIOS?
If not try this?

How about the installation of Win 7? Did you check if the fans would run using Win 7 on this notebook? I think it?s worth a test?

Since I have installed the sound card driver to my notebook, it always starts to beep when it reaches 10% battery in every 10 seconds. Its not a Windows voice, but i tried to search the sound controls and even the BIOS to turn this thing off. It can be usable in certain cases, but I really want to get rid of it or make it use only if the screen is off and I dont see the battery charge level.

All in all, the question again is, how can I turn off or control the beeping sound after 10% battery level without uninstalling the Realtek sound driver?

Yours Sincerely,

Answer:Satellite L500-14Z starts to beep when it reaches 10% battery

You can disable it in:
Start >> Control Panel >> Sound

There click on Sounds tab in Sound properties

Choose Critical Battery Alarm and in small window called sound choose ?no sound?.

Apply the changes and reboot the notebook.

Wondering whether someone can help. I recently purchased a Satellite L500 and the keyboard is giving problems. Every day two or three times it starts typing giberrish - i.e I type L it will type another letter and so on - and it only fixes the problem by doing a reboot.

Any idea what may cause this problem or how it can be fixed? Its a brand new machine so I am surprised by the problem?

Many Thanks

Answer:Re: Satellite L500 - Keyboard starts typing Giberrish

Hi Partha,

> Its a brand new machine so I am surprised by the problem?
That makes no difference. Such problems or other ones can happen always even the notebook is few days old.

Regarding your problem: Have you checked the keyboard input language? I don?t know which native language you want to use but I would recommend removing all other languages.
Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Language > Details

In worst case if it would be a hardware issue, you should get a new keyboard for free from an authorized service provider due warranty.

I have new Satellite L500-1ek notebook with Windows 7.

Whatever screen resolution I setup system always starts with 800x600. And not only after restart but even when I logout my profile and login again.
More: I use also external monitor. I can have mirror of my laptop screen on the monitor or only display on monitor but whatever I do I cannot have extended screen.

When I try to set it up I'm simply ignored by driver.

So I tried to install newest driver. I downloaded it from Toshiba site but it never installed saying me that my system did not meet minimum requirements.
What to do now?

Answer:Satellite L500-1ek - setup system always starts with 800x600

For me it sounds like you have used not compatible graphic card driver.
Did you notice this issue using the Toshiba preinstalled OS?

As far as I know you unit has been equipped with the INTEL GL40 graphic chip.
Did you try the driver from Intel page as well?

Check this!

Where can I get one of these from. My laptop is only 16 months old!
Has anyone else experienced this?

Answer:Satellite P30: Solder gone in power supply jack on back of laptop

Hi Nicky

I have never had this kind of problems but if your unit has valid warranty please contact Authorized service partner in your country. I am not sure if parts order will be easy but you can also try to ask service partner. I recommend you to contact them and explain the situation.

Are you familiar with disassembling procedure on Satellite P30?

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S109 Laptop with expired warranty. A few weeks ago, it stopped working all of a sudden. When I turn it on, the fan starts to work for a few seconds and then it stops. The laptop doesn?t boot up nor does the LCD lit up. I had a friend, who is a technician, check the laptop. He checked it and said that everything else (hard drive, mother board, LCD, etc..) is fine, the only problem with the laptop is that its Power Supply don?t work. He couldn?t find the Power Supply repair part, thus wasn?t able to fix it. Now the laptop is back in my home unfixed. He advised me to buy a power supply part and he can put it in the laptop and the laptop will be fine. I don?t know the part # of the power supply. He said I should contact Toshiba but my warranty is expired. Another friend suggested I should buy a similar model non working laptop and take out its power supply and fix my laptop.

Can any body advise as what my next step should be. I am willing to spend up to $150 on this laptop but not more than that.

Thanks in advance.

Hello there, recently I've been having a few problems with my PC. When I try to turn it on, the lights will start up, as will the fans, but nothing appears on my screen, my monitor showing a "no signal" message. However, if I keep turning the switch on and off at the back by my power supply, and pressing the power button it will -eventually- turn on.

When it's on it seems to be slower than how it was before I encountered this problem, about a few weeks ago, sometimes programs would randomly stop responding for example.

Is there any simple troubleshooting I can do, to find the issue?

Sorry if this is in the wrong area by the way, mods.

I've installed a new Antec neo he550W power supply. However when i power on now the machine starts all the fans spin etc for about 5 seconds then it powers down. All appears to be connected properly, 20 pin atx power & 4 pin cpu (the psu also has an 8 pin cpu cable)I then have to pull the power cord to be able to repeat this.motherboard: foxconn 661FX/648FX4MR-ES1gb ram2 hard drivesterratek dmx fire 24/96 sound cardgraphics: ati radeon 9200se 28mb, this is an old card about to be replaced by a geoforce 7600GS 256mb agp (which is the reason for the new psu) however thought i'd get the psu going first.

The computer has recently been moved. Before the move it worked. Nothing dramatic happened during the move. When I press the start button, the light comes on. The power supply fan starts and the CPU cooling fan starts. Then after at most 3 seconds, the power supply shuts down (both fans stop). But the start button light remains on. I took out the power supply and tried it on another motherboard (without any other loads). It seemed to work fine. It wasn't connected to any drives, etc. After putting the power supply back in, I bypassed the start switch on the computer by just shorting the terminals on the MOBO. Same results. I checked the CPU to make sure it was seated correctly and as best I can see, it looks OK. I unplugged the power from all the drives etc. Same failure. I also took out the CMOS battery for 10 minutes, then put it back in. Again no help.As best I can figure, the motherboard is telling the Power Supply to cut off.  Any ideas what other tests I could do to tell what's happening?

Answer:Power supply starts, then immediately stops

Do these steps:Take all your parts except the motherboard out.  Switch all the parts with those of another computer. If it does the same thing with the other set of parts, it is a motherboard issue. If the power supply fails to work on the other machine, switch the hardware back--one device at a time, trying the computer after each device. BTW--make sure computer is unplugged BEFORE removing hardware, then plugged IN before testing.

Dell XPS XPS710Intel Core 2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHzMemory RAM 4.00 GBWindows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Operating SystemSP 1NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTXHi allHere?s the problemAbout a month ago the machine started to sporadically remain ?asleep? when I pressed the power button to turn it on. I would shut down as usual but getting the machine to start again has become increasingly hit and miss.Sometimes when I try to start the computer it starts OK. Sometimes it just starts flashing an amber light; when I press the power button again the amber light stops, and then starts up again when the power button is pressed a third time.Sometimes the computer does not start for two or three days. And sometime it starts after a few hours. After pressing the power button I either get the slowly blinking amber light or (occasionally but not often) the machine actually starts. It seems as if it is waiting to be woken up by something, but I have tried all keyboard key, moving the mouse, and of course trying the power switch. There is no activity apart from the yellow light. The fan does not start, the drives are not activated and the machine is completely silentHere is (possibly) the solution? So?I?ve been advised that the power supply is faulty. Is it relatively easy to acquire the power supply for an XPS710?Is replacing the power supply a complex thing to attempt?(I?ve looked beneath the cover and replaced graphics cards but am not an expert)Any advice would be much appreciated.ThanksAndrew308

Answer:Vista only occasionally starts - power supply fault?

80% chance its your power supply.Either its not sending out the required power, or it is not operating at all correctly. Changing a power supply is very complicated if your new to pc's.You have to know where everything goes, and one wrong mistake could wipe out an entire component. In my opinion i would suggest you get it looked at by a professional, seeing as the computer hope forum, can't do as much as look inside your pc and help you change your power supply.Power supplies range from 50-200 for a reasonable one. You will need to find the right one for your computer power requirements too. This is why its best you find a friend, or take your pc to a computer store.

I've returned from living in the US and have a Satellite M35X-S149 notebook computer. As it was purchased in the US, it has a power supply that runs off a US two pin plug and the power lead has only a two way lead joining into the battery.

I would like to know if I can purchase a UK power supply for use here in the UK. Just so you know what I've tried already: I found a Toshiba power lead with a 3-pin plug on the end and tried to fit this into the battery pack, but that doesn't work as the battery only has 2 holes for lead to go into and UK leads have 3 connectors not 2 so that didn't work!

I've now realised I need to buy the whole power supply and am not sure which one to get.

Can anyone advise me if this is possible and what to purchase for my model of notebook?

Answer:Switching from a US power supply to a UK supply on Satellite M35X-S149

I think you will need an new European AC adaptor.
I think a AC adaptor for a European series like M30X could be compatible with yours M35X.

The M30X supports this one:
PA3396U - 65W - 19V - 3.42A - 100~240V

You can order it from the Toshiba ASP in UK

During a recent storm, lightning struck very close to my house and we lost power immediately after the lightning strike. Once power was restored, my HP Pavilion a6000 would not re-start. The computer and all the peripherals were protected (I thought) by two surge protectors.

On closer inspection, I found that the green LED on the power supply was blinking. I disconnected all the connections coming from the power supply, and when I did, the green light went from blinking to steady on. I re-connected the leads one by one, and the light stayed on until I connected the 20 pin connection to the motherboard. As soon as I connected the 20 pin lead to the motherboard, the solid green LED went back to flashing.

I assume from the diagnostics that something on the motherboard was fried by the lightning? I know how to replace a power supply, but have never dealt with motherboard issues, so not sure how to proceed. The computer is only 6 months old and I would like to save it, but don't know what I might be looking as far as expense and time involved to repair.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

unfortunately my power supply of my new sp3 is broken. I already ordered a new one, but it will take some
time until the new power supply will be there. I really would like to use my sp3, so I have been thinking about replacing the broken power supply by another one. From my old asus netbook I have a power supply with 12V and 3.0 A output.
Is it possible to use this one for loading?
I have been searching in different forums about the replacement of a power supply, I always read, that an egual voltage is necessary and that the amperage can be higher, the device should handle the correct amperage.
What do you think about this?

*Hello there, hope someone can help here.*

The laptop was purchased in May last year and for several weeks it hasn't been used so when I plugged in and switched on there was no power. When on charge I get a solid green (DC in) and solid amber (Battery) and when I press the power button the power LED flashes green - once but very briefly.

If I remove the battery the laptop will not power on either and only when using a fully charged battery will the laptop power up. The battery icon shows it to be charging only briefly when I plug in. I've even tried another AC charger even though mine is good (tested) and also tested with another battery to no avail.

To summarise I have a good battery/charger (both tested) yet no charge to battery or when removed no power up on AC adapter only. The DC socket is undamaged on inspection and not loose. Any suggestions would be helpful to diagnose this issue and if anyone has the same problem please post any thoughts. Would Toshiba cover any repairs on this issue out of warrenty if it's a known fault?

*Many thanks in advance for any advice!*

Answer:Satellite L500 wont power up on AC

Is this a motherboard issue as I suspect? Any links or known fixes? I don't think this is the usual power socket/DC-in issue we've seen before but I have seen some kind of fix for this somewhere but can't find it. It seems wrong that this kind of failure should happen on relatively new machines so any input or support would be welcome.

Can you see a BIOS or Toshiba splash screen?
Is anything visible on the screen?

If not, I assume your notebook developed a serious hardware problem and I think the parts should be checked by an ASP in your country.
Theoretically it could be related to memory modules, CPU or motherboard?
So firstly the RAM modules should be checked and if RAM modules are ok then the technician should follow with CPU and motherboard.

This means that you did something wrong while replacing the power jack.
The AC adaptor is ok and battery is ok too? so the case is clear to me? there must be something wrong with the power connection on the motherboard? either you damage something while replacing the power jack or you connected something wrong?

Sorry but it?s really hard to say what you have done there and what part on motherboard might be affected? in my opinion the ASP notebook technician should check this

I have been trying to repair a laptop with charging issues. when plugged in to power, it displays two lights, the battery charging light which is amber and the power connected light which is green. when i try to power it up, the amber light goes off and the power on light goes on for about a second and the laptop goes off again. after leaving it plugged in for a few hours, i tried to power it on and it worked. when i logged into windows, the battery indicator on the system bar showed that my computer was not plugged in while it actually was. when i unplug the adapter and plug it back on, it shows charging for a few seconds and stops charging.

i have tried replacing the power adapter but still no luck. i have tried powering on without the battery but the laptop only goes on for about a second. tried removing ram all drives battery and power and doing a power button reset still no luck. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

I have a Satellite L500 with a heating issue. When in use the power adapter gets extremely hot, whether the battery is in or out. So much so that it has melted the case around the adapter. My first thought is that it's the cord itself that is faulty and will buy a replacement for it. If this is not the case, what other things should i look for?

- Cord gets very hot *with* or *without* battery
- fans and vents have been cleaned
- the heat is only in one area around the power adapter

Answer:Satellite L500 - power cord heating

Do you still use original parts that you got with your notebook?
I mean Satellite L500 is not the newest model and you use it probably for the while so it will be interesting to know if this is original Toshiba AC adapter and power cord.

On my small Portege notebook I use non-Toshiba AC adapter and it is also pretty hot.

For me the case is clear: The battery cannot hold the charge so the notebook will be shut down because it has no power anymore.

I think you must replace the battery with a new one and you can get it from an authorized service provider in your country. Just contact the guys and ask for that, they can tell you how much it would cost.

You can find a list of all ASPs here: > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

Hi, over the past few days the display on my notebook has been losing power automatically. I can still (albeit faintly) see the desktop in the background when this happens. What confuses me is that if I close the notebook and then re-open it, the screen lights up again but then (eventually). I've figured out that its probably the backlight, but I can't work out why it works intermittently. For example, on Tuesday night the screen worked fine for about five hours. Yet last night it only stayed on for about an hour, and then when I tried to re-start it it only stayed on for two minutes.

Not sure if its relevant, but last week I received a warning saying my battery was no longer functioning to its full potential and I should replace it. Is it possible that this is contributing?

Toshiba Satellite L305-5955, Ive taken apart and replaced power jack. Not directly soldered to motherboard. While still apart, and battery out/in, connected power supply and still absolutely no response. Power supply is NOT original, and slightly different specs, i.e original 19v..6.3A

current 19v..3.1A

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L305-5955 does not respond to power supply, new power jack

Almost certainly the problem is that the current rating is wrong, if the laptop needs
6.3 A of current, it won't function on less (just as you can't use a 3A fuse for a kettle!)
Unfortunately it must be the right current rating, I know, I've been caught that way too!
Maybe you can exchange it?

Alternative I would try the sound driver from Realtek directly. Maybe on the Realtek website you can find a newer version.

I have a Dell 8600 about two years old. When I plug in the AC adapter, it intermittently fades to the battery as though the plug was pulled out (its not) and of course the screen fades in an out when every time it swithces--it does it every 30 to 60 seconds or so. I switched to a different AC adapter (I have a Dell 600M with the same AC adapter)-same thing so I know it is something internally. Any ideas?

Hello: Just received a beautiful W530 Laptop - love the T and W versions of this machines. However, with such a large power requirement, want to make sure that I will be able to run and charge the W530 on United Airlines, American Airlines, etc., using the supplied 170 W Power supply...  Please confirm your experience that this will work. Otherwise, using this laptop on long haul flights will not work.

Answer:Charging Battery and powering W530 Laptop with Airline Power and 170W Power Supply

Can someone please help with this question? Hard to believe nobody has taken a W530 laptop on an airplane and whether the power supply operated the laptop (and did or did not charge the battery).  Thanks, greatly appreciate experience here.

My Equium A60-692 has stopped receiving any power from the AC adaptor (tho I've metered it and its giving out a good 19v). I've noticed the end of the adaptor (the end that goes into the laptop) is different to normal ones. Rather than having a hole at the center that a spike on the laptop fits into, its just got a flat piece of metal. Just wondered this was normal and the problem is inside the laptop or if the spike has somehow snapped off and is stuck into the adaptor. It looks like its supposed to be this way but it seems a bit weird...

Answer:Equium A60-692 Power supply - laptop doesn't receive any power

HI Rodders,

Bad news I'm afraid. The flat piece of metal that you describe is the back end of the central pin that has snapped off the inside of the power socket on your notebook. This is quite a common occurrence (check out some of the other posts on these forums).

Unfortunately the solution to this problem is for your nearest Authorised Service Partner to replace the mainboard (quite expensive!) unless you can find someone willing to solder in a new power socket.

Very sorry to be the bearer of such bad tidings.

I've recently inherited a lovely Y70-70 touch from my father, and have restored it to factory settings recently. However I'm having issues at the moment where it shuts down instantly at random times when not plugged in. Checking the system logs in the event viewer I see the following Critical message: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. Generally online help seems to suggest this is a power supply issue. Have I got a duff battery in here? Are there further diagnostics I can run? Unfortunately I'm out of warranty so keen to solve this myself!

Hi all,
First post so please ask if I have not included all information needed.

I have Satellite Pro L500-1TX (Win 7 os 32bit) and all was working fine including the Fn key drop down menu.

Now, whenever I press the Fn key it crashes the laptop to a blue screen. The computer then reboots automatically and as it was a unplanned shutdown it offers the usual safe mode option.

Unfortunately I do not know when this started as I don't use the Fn key often, so am reluctant to just do a system restore. I don't know how far back to go. It was a few weeks before I associated the crashes with hitting the Fn key.

Any suggestion as to which Toshiba drivers might need to be reinstalled. The computer is otherwise working fine.

Cheers in advance

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 - Press Fn key crashes laptop to blue screen

Hello if anyone is reading this.

A search of other threads has helped me.

I downloaded Flash Card Setup Utility driver and ran this twice (once to uninstall and again to reinstall).

A reboot is required after install.

Pressing the Fn Key now pops up the correct drop down menu.

Hope this helps others.

I need to replace the power supply for my Satellite P30-110.

The searching the main web site give three options: PA3336E-1ACA, PA3290E-2ACA and PA3381E-1ACA ( e=UK&selSeries=-1&selFamily=2326&selCategory=2319&family=2326&selP roduct=98796)

PA3381E-1ACA seems not to be available any more and PA3290E-2ACA has this note: "This AC adapter has a smaller DC-in plug than part number PA3290U-1ACA - PA3290U-2ACA and PA3290U-1ACA are not interchangeable."

My original, now broken, power supply appears to be the unabvailable PA3381E-1ACA model.

Does anyone know which of the other two PSUs is the correct replacement?
Or can anyone suggest an after market power supply that will run on car, air and AC input to provide the correct output (19v and 6.3a).

Answer:Satellite P30 110: which power supply?

Satellite P30-109 has PA3290U-1ACA AC Adapter 100-240V AC 50-60Hz 120W with 19V DC Output. As far as I know all P30 notebooks use the same AC adapter. Check the part number on the Toshiba page.

I've re-seated battery and checked fuse in the plug. Any suggestions please? Spoke to support who simply arranged for the return of laptop to service centre under warranty.

Answer:Satellite M60-164: No power supply

I don?t know if I have understood you right but it seems that the notebook doesn?t get any power, neither from battery nor from the AC adaptor.
Did you check if the AC adaptor is ok?

So for me everything looks like a power supply electronic malfunction. But this is only my suggestion and if you want to be 100% sure about the fault so I think you have to ask the technician for the help.

You know, you can be sure about the notebook malfunction after the detailed check.
I think if the warranty is valid so all replacement should be done for free.

Good luck and let me know what was wrong.

Just taken delivery of Satellite Pro L40 - I am a bit worried at the heat coming from the Laptop's power supply, been on for 1 hour and is extremely hot. Is this normal?

Answer:Satellite Pro L40 - Power supply is hot

Hi M,

Yes, it is quite normal for the power supply to get hot. In some cases it can get very hot indeed and Toshiba place a warning sticker on the power supply about this 'feature'.

The power adapter supplies a varying current in order to satisfy the needs of the notebook so you should expect the adapter to heat up noticably when running applications or games which use a lot of notebook resource.

I have a friend who bought the M65-9092 in the US.
He came to Germany and his power supply is broken.
At the moment he has Part No..PA3432V-1ACA Model NO. PA-1750-04 but we can't find it here. Which one do we have to buy in Germany?
Toshiba hotline couldn't help as they don't have lists for foreign models.

Answer:Satellite M65-9092 - Which power supply?

I think you mistyped the name of the AC adaptor;
It?s a *PA3432U-1ACA* and not PA3432V-1ACA

The PA3432U-1ACA supports these specifications:
*19V, 3.95A, 75W*

You need an AC adaptor which provides 19V.
The Ampere value should be the same or a little bit higher but not lower?

However, I think you will find this AC if you would google for PA3432U-1ACA.

PS: you can take a AC adaptor designed for Sat M60 (European series) too.

Hi all,

When I turn on my Satellite M50, it did not recognise my outlet powersupply and switched to battery supply power.
There were no problems with the computer before hand and there were no hard/software changes recently.

The LCD indicators at the front are all dark even with the outlet powersupply plugged in.
I tried unplugging and replugging as well as using other outlet sources, but to no avail.

Please help.

Answer:Satellite M50 power supply not recognised

Do you want to hear my personal suggestion?
So I think there are only two possibilities;
Either the AC adaptor is faulty or there is something wrong with the motherboard power supply.

But firstly the AC adaptor should be checked.

When i insert the power chord in my laptop, it doesn't wanna charge the batteries. The indicator light, that should be on when the powersuply is inserted, doesn't light up.

At first I had to turn the cable some, in order to let it work, but since today that doesn't even work anymore.
Does it mean that the AC-adaptor is broken? How can that be? My laptop is only 6 months old!!!

If i have to buy a new adaptor, can i use any adaptor that works on 19V ?

Answer:Power supply does not work on Satellite L20-155

It's either the adaptor that got broken, or the power jack on the motherboard.

I have the P10-873 notebook for 4 months.
The problem is that it turns off when it is connected to AC power.
I can only work using the battery. When the battery goes off I charge it normally (with the notebook turned off) and then I use the notebook only with battery again.
If I connect it to the AC power it turns off after 3 minutes maximum!!!

I have checked the CPU usage while connected to AC and it seems that the CPU is overloaded (from 65-98% - where it shuts down!) without running any applications other that the processes needed for the notebook to operate.

I have sent the notebook to TOSHIBA and they returned it saying that they updated the BIOS.
Unfortunately the problem was not fixed!!!

Do you have any suggestions?

Sorry but I think that there is some problem with notebook power supply electronic. The BIOS update can not solve the problem at all. Please contact your notebook seller or try to contact the Authorized service partner again. They should check the unit again.

A friend of mine has got a Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 (we think), but the power supply is now broken. Finding a new one to buy has been a bit troublesome, as we are not sure which fit and which don't.
So here I am, asking for help in this issue:
- Which power supply unit can be purchased and used for a Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 (possibly A100-514 or -515)?
- Or if the above proves too hard to answer, info on the requirements (such as Watt, Volt, Hertz, etc.) will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite Pro A100 - Power Supply is broken

I think the A100's have different AC Adapters depending on the model. So you need to find out exactly what the model number is. Some are 19v, others are 15v.

ps. You should buy an original Toshiba adapter. Ive heard stories of non-Toshiba Adapters blowing the mainboard and causing other problems.

Can someone please advise me what the Power Supply Range is for this Model.
The Battery shows 10.8.

Car Chargers I have been looking at are 18v-20v at 90W or 120W.
Are these Car Chargers suitable or will they damage the Laptop.
Due to the nature of my business, I need the Laptop on charge while I am driving long distance.

Thank You

Answer:Satellite L750 - Power Supply Range

Easiest way is you check the specifciations on bottom side of your notebook. Usually there is a sticker with an information of required voltage and ampere.

The car charger must have these specifications too.
For example if your notebook requires 19V you need a charger with 19V too. Ampere must be same or higher, that?s no problem.

2 months ago I had a problem and I had my main board changed with a new one. Before going in the toshiba's service centre my battery was holding only about 1 hour. When I received back my laptop with the brand new main board the battery didn't even hold for 1 second. It was completely dead and useless. So I ordered a new battery from ebay and I just received it today.

When I plug it into the laptop the battery LED starts blinking in orange. When I tried to power the laptop on nothing happened. When the battery is in, it doesn't matter if the laptop is on or off, the LED keeps flashing and it doesn't matter if the AC adapter is plugged in or not, the laptop doesn't want to power on. The only way I powered it on with the new battery was to remove it and power it on just on the AC adapter and then plug the battery in. But when I remove the adapter, the laptop turns off after 2-3 seconds.

I tried to delete the battery drivers and reinstall them but it didn't help. I have also tried to remove the adapter and the battery and to keep the power on button for a while and that didn't have any effect too.

Answer:Power supply issue on Satellite L850

Is this new battery original Toshiba product or some other brand?
For me it sounds like some compatibility problem. Somehow power supply electronic placed on the mainboard cannot ?work together? with this new battery.

Since purchasing an A200 last year the laptop has burnt out three Toshiba supplied power adaptors, it has been returned to Toshiba for repair but they insist that the fault was with the adaptors. It has been six weeks since the 'repair' now this one has blown as well. I have contacted Toshiba who to be frank could not have cared less offering only another collection for repair or another power supply (that would probably last a few more weeks).
I have tried to be reasonable with them as it is obvious even to me that the laptop has some fault which they are unable to diagnose but they refuse to replace the unit or in deed take any responsibility what so ever for the problem it has had since just after purchase.

I cannot afford to keep sending it back for repair or waiting for new adaptors to arrive as this is primarily my sons laptop and he is a special needs student tutored at home, he only has 6 hours a week tutoring and as his writing skills are inhibited the laptop is essential if he is to keep up.

My questions are:

1 Has anyone else experienced this problem
2 Has anyone else had a similar experience with customer service
3 Any opinions on whether I should cut my losses and buy him something more reliable in view of the situation.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite A200 - Power supply failure

1) I've got a notebook which is 8 years old (non Toshiba one). The AC adaptor died after about 4 month of usage.
I got a new one (for free) and since then it's working like a dream.

2) I had contacted a ASP sometime ago because my keyboard did work.
They have replaced it very fast.... I was happy with that.

3) Fact is that the notebook cannot break the AC adaptor. Something like that is not possible (physically).
The AC adaptor can die due to different reasons i.e: bad voltage, high temperature, internal fault, etc...

I think you should simply contact the ASP and should take the new AC adaptor.

I am running my laptop on WIndows 8.1 - 64 bit.

When the power cable and the battery are plugged in, the laptop simply will not start. When I remove the battery and only use the power cable it will start and work normally. It also seems that the battery does not load.

Who has a solution for this problem?

Answer:Power supply issue on Satellite C870-1FZ

I?m little bit confused why the notebook does not power up with connected battery.

Usually even if the battery would not charge properly due to the battery age, the notebook should power up properly.

However, if does not look like the AC adaptor would be faulty because the notebook work properly using the main power.

Therefore I came to the conclusion that battery or motherboard?s power supply electronic could cause this issue.

Since a new battery is much cheaper as a new motherboard, I would recommend you to check the notebook functionality using another, compatible and good working battery.

Hi :-)

I have 2 laptops that have developed the same problem. After I switch them on a random amount of time later (usually a very short time) passes then there is a tiny click sound and the battery will stop charging (charge light goes out but power light is still on) but the laptop will continue to run but from the battery until the battery runs flat.

And the only way to get it back to normal is by shutting down (then the blue light on the power button will stay on) and then unplugging the power cord when the same little click sound is heard and the blue light will go out) and if there is no battery installed then it will just shut down and the power light will give short flashes for a couple of minutes.

I've tried it with 2 different chargers and about 4 batteries with the same results but I suspect perhaps one of the batteries could be fauly and damaged something in the laptops unless there is a part that gives up after a few years in the laptops? The click sound is in the vicinity of the power button. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Best wishes....Ron

Answer:Satellite P30/P35 - Not running from power supply or charging

Hi guesstalot,

> I've tried it with 2 different chargers and about 4 batteries with the same results
In this case I assume it has something to do with the mainboard or with the charging control on the mainboard. I mean if you have tried different chargers and batteries, it?s not related to these parts.

So in my opinion it?s the mainboard that is causing this. Alternative you can ask an authorized service provider for help. The technicians can check this and order a new mainboard for you.

Hey, got quite a problem with my laptop.. It's a Medion Erazer X7813, worked well for ~2 years.
I was doing a graphics card benchmark yesterday and it stopped in the middle of it(monitored temperature, it was at ~80 degrees Celsius when it turned off). No bluescreen or anything just off and I couldnt restart after that(no fans nothing). I thought it might be the power supply, so I tested it, but it was doing 19v when not plugged in, but when I plugged it in and unplugged it again it was at 1v. When testing I unintentionally shorted the power supply and it showed 1v after that just as it did after plugging it in, is it shorting inside the laptop? Could it be the battery or something more serious like the MB? Any ideas are welcome!

My computer has this strange problem. It stops completly after I connect the power supply.
What I'm doing now is let it charge while it's off and use it without the power supply.

There is a chance that it works with the power connected but usually it stops still in the boot.
If the battery runs low and I connect the supply it usually stops right after I do it, sometimes don't.

I also tried to install Linux. But happens the same (except by the fact Linux stops only in the boot)
I'm using now Windows Vista.

Thanks for the time, and sorry for the English.

Answer:Satellite A205 freeze after connecting Power Supply

In first case you should check if the power supply causes this? this means you will need to test the notebook using completely new AC adaptor.
But to be honest in my opinion this could be a serious motherboard issue?
Possibly something wrong with the power supply electronic on with the memory modules?

I think you have no resources for checking this and therefore I think the best is to contact the ASP in your country. The guys could check this and then you would know what part must be replaced.

could someone tell why the power supply indicator is flashing amber?

When this happens my laptop wont turn on.
Its has turned on the odd 1 or 2 times only that when the screen displays the deskstop it automatically switches itself off,

Answer:Satellite Pro A120: AC power supply LED is flashing amber

> could someone tell why the power supply indicator is flashing amber?
The LED flashes because an error and fault on the motherboard was detected!

The LED provides an error which can be read by an Toshiba ASP technicians.

Therefore I would recommend contacting the guys for the notebook check!

Good luck

I have a problem with my toshiba satellite 1900-203 (1905 for usa version). I can manage to boot up perfectly and i can work without any problem, but if I move the laptop just a bit there seems to be a power loss (fan is still working and screen shows vertical black and white lines and sometimes it becomes very bright). The CPU seems to stop also, because if I'm listening music it disappears too.

I almost sure that is not a screen problem and that it has to be with power supply; I discard overheating as I can work perfectly for a long time if I don't move the laptop, but after hitting the laptop intentionally it crashes. I think there must be a bad contact in the motherboard but I don't know how to find it ...

Answer:Power supply becomes unstable when moving Satellite 1900-203

Hello Miguel

Here on the forum it is not easy to give you any diagnostic. For doing that and to understand the problem the notebook should be in front of me.

Anyway, according to your description I presume that there can be more than power supply. Usually if there is the problem with power supply the notebook has or has no power supply but in your description there occur are few very strange things (fan is still working but display shows vertical lines).

Sorry but I think that your unit should be checked properly by technicians. They have different tools to make diagnostic tests and find out what the problem can be.

Hello All,

I have a problem with my Satelite A300 which is difficult to explain and i havent found this problem anywhere else in the forums. I am not an expert of computers and i will try to explain the problem.

When the battery is fully charged and i switch on the laptop, i can use the laptop for 5 minutes and i get a warning to plug in again. When i plug in, the system gets stuck. Nothing moves or nothing happens. Press the power button for a few seconds and the system is shut down. I recharge and restart again and i play sopcast video or some other video application, and then plug-in the system, it works fine. Again i can use the system unplugged just for a few minutes, if i plug in it hangs.

If i play sopcast and plugin, it works.
If i start the system in safe-mode, it starts fine and i can use the system as long as i want. Even if i plugin during safemode, it works fine.
I checked with some experts and they say the graphics card is gone. Some say there might be a virus. Some say thats a problem with the battery and charger.

Please help me. I am writing my thesis now and all my data is in this system.

Hello everyone

It's almost a year since I have TOSHIBA L750-12Q model PSK2YE-05P00RPL.
Since the beginning I've noticed strange actions: when battery is getting low to 10% and I plug power supply everything starts to work slowly (for example I can see frames when I'm using web camera)
also web sites are loading very slowly or at all. This is making my work on laptop almost impossible.
When this problem occurs there's some bugs in Event Viewer:

Event 37, Kernel-Processor-Power
"The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report."

I thought it was power supply or motherboard problem so I sent laptop to service. Technical support only changed BIOS to 3.60 version [there's no another version atm] and it didn't resolved anything.
I've been searching on internet and I found that this failure can occurs because of Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology option but unfortunately I can't disable it in BIOS.

I read that there was simillar problem with for example Portege R835-P84 and new BIOS helped and resolved this.

Please help :(

P.S. Sorry for my english.

Answer:Satellite L750 slows down after plugging power supply

I can't edit so I post a print screen how this failure looks in CPU-Z:

Multiplier 8x stays like this and won't move whatever I do.

My laptop is about a month old and a couple of weeks ago it started switching to battery power for no reason. It goes back to mains power if I unplug it and plug it back in, or if I take the cable out of the power pack and put it back in. It doesn't help if I restart it. It is happening more and more and it no longer switches back to mains power every time I unplug it. It sometimes takes 10s of goes.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A300 with strange power supply problem

Sounds like the AC plug or socket has been damaged.

If you see any damage, you should stop using it and get it repaired by an ASP as soon as possible.

I assume your laptop is still under warranty, so you should send it to an ASP anyway for warranty repairs.

Hi I'm hoping this is just me being dim.

I plugged my power supply into my laptop today and found that no power is getting to the laptop. I have checked all the obvious things like the fuse, and have even tested the power supply output with a multimeter and I'm getting what looks like the correct voltage.

However, when the power supply is plugged into my laptop the blue "ac power" light does not light, and windows is saying I'm running on battery.

Anybody else had this problem? Is it a return and repair job? (I really hope not).

Answer:Strange power supply issue on my Satellite A100

> Is it a return and repair job
I?m afraid, yes :(

But the question is; what part malfunctions ?:|
Maybe your investigation is right and everything is ok with AC adapter.
This would means that there could be something wrong with the notebook itself.

Maybe it?s only an looses connection between the AC plug and motherboard or more serious problem like power supply electronic malfunction ?:|

Who knows?. It?s very difficult to say what?s wrong without any diagnostic tests?
I would recommend contacting a technician in your country. He could check the notebook and could locate the fault much faster as a simply common user like you and me.

Good luck

Hi there,

My toshiba Satellite C850 laptop won't turn on with battery. It works fine when connected with AC supply..!!
When connected with AC supply, it shows my battery is fully charged.

Answer:Satellite C850 won't turn on with battery power supply

How old is the battery?
Could it be possible that the battery does not hold the charge anymore?

My old notebook?s battery showed 100% charge but the battery worked only 1min and then the battery was empty.
This is nothing unusual and sooner or later this would happen to any battery.

I think you should simply test a new compatible battery.

I have a problem with the power supply to my Toshiba Satellite A10. Sometimes, after the computer has been on for a while, I get a problem with the power. The "power cable connected"-LED will start flashing and shortly after, the computer just dies.

It may also have time to go into a lower energy consuming state before it does. When this has happened once, it will most likely happen also when I reboot the computer, but after a much shorter while. WXP wont even have time to start up. If I pause to select boot source, the problem will occur anyway, so it is not software. It should also be noticed that when the computer is not off, the "power connected"-LED is lit correctly.

I know that my battery is not so good. Fully loaded, the computer can run for perhaps 3 minutes with only the battery. I know that I have to have a battery connected even if I am using the power cable, but this problem of mine occurs anyway. Could the battery be bad enough to not even allow me to use the computer with a cable?

It should be added, that sometimes I can use the computer for very long periods without this problem occurring. I also have an issue with the battery not being properly in physical contact with the pins on the computer, but that is not the problem here since I have the same problem with the battery hatch removed and me holding the battery in place.

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Satellite A10 dies after power supply LED start flashing

You description is very long and detailed and it?s still not easy to say what?s wrong.
Usually the DC-In indicator glows green when the DC power is supplied fro the AC power. If the adaptor output voltage is abnormal or if the power supply malfunctions, this indicator flashes orange.

So I think either your AC adaptor malfunctions or there is something wrong with the power supply electronic on the motherboard.

Yes of course, you can run the notebook without the battery and only connected to the main power.
You don't have to be afraid. The notebook will not damage.
I use my notebook without the battery. Why?? Because it does not work anymore ;) It?s too old.

I recently bought a Satellite Pro S300L-105, it works normally except that it produces a slight, pointed whistle, witch can be heard when the power supply is removed. After less than 10 minutes using, I feel pain to my ears and brain and it becomes unusable.

I do not have any hearing problem or so. and I've never had such a problem when using any other computer.

What is it due to, and what can the manufacturer do for me?

Answer:Satellite Pro S300L-105 - Whistle when power supply is removed

That?s really strange. I never heard about such an issue and this does only happens with disconnected AC/DC adaptor?!

Have you installed another 3rd party driver that is not from the Toshiba page? Especially I mean the display driver.
Furthermore you should try to reinstall Windows using the Toshiba recovery disk.

But I think in this case you need professional help from an authorized service provider. The technicians can check the notebook for you and repair it because this should not happen. By the way, on the Toshiba website you can search for nearest authorized service provider.

I have a problem that developed about 3 months ago with a computer in daily use.

When the computer is plugged into power on start-up, the computer boots halfway into Windows XP with the first XP screen, and then it sounds like the hard drive clunks and stops and then the screen stops and shakes with lots of lines and stripes in the screen and distortion, and the machine freezes up.

I then have to hold down the power button and restart.
I can then start it in safe mode.

If I have the computer start up on battery power, it always starts normally and everything is fine.
Once the computer is all booted up, I can then plug in the power and run it all day.

Any ideas why the machine freezes on boot-up when it is started on power and not on battery?
I've had it plugged into lots of power sources, and even changed the power supply with another machine, and it still has the problem.

I've loaded every driver and the latest bios driver and display driver.

Do you think this is a software or hardware problem?

Answer:Satellite L300 boots up on battery but not on AC power supply

> Any ideas why the machine freezes on boot-up when it is started on power and not on battery?

In my personal opinion its definitely an hardware problem. The question is what part is affected.
I think that you should test another AC adaptor.
Abnormal power supply can cause such issues.
Otherwise if the AC adaptor isn?t the troublemaker, I think that only motherboard malfunction can cause such issue.

first, excuse my bad english please.

I have the Sattelite X200-203 Notebook since 2 days and my first problem is that the battery doesnt load.
When i connect the power supply it works fine, but did i disconnect the powwer supply the notebook turns off. in vista it shows me always an battery power of 89%, ALWAYS.

What can i do?
at least, the satellite logo didnt glow red annymore...

Answer:Satellite X200-203 turns off when disconnect the power supply

According to your description the battery does not provide the notebook with the power.
In my opinion there could be problem either with the battery itself or with the power supply electronic on the motherboard.
I think it?s a battery fault but to be 100% sure the notebooks check is needed!!!

The X200 is a new notebook series therefore I?m 100% sure that the warranty is valid. Am I right?

So you shouldn?t waste the time and contact the authorized service provider in your country.
Explain the guys your situation and ask for the further handling.

Every check and part replacement should be done for free!!!

Good luck & cheers dude ;)

I have the following problem with my new Satellite Pro M70.
When the power supply is connected to the notebook a strange low volume whistling sound happens.
This sound happens even with the notebook OFF when the power supply is connected.

This sound cannot be heard in a noisy room but is quite annoying when you work in a totally quiet room.

Does anybody else have the same problem?

Answer:Satellite Pro M70: Noise with notebook OFF if power supply connected

Sounds to me like you either have a bad ac adaptor, or the ac plug-in on your computer is touching something inside and making these noises. Best bet is to take it to your nearest ASP and have them check out the notebook for any abnormalities. You can try and test the adaptor if you have a voltmeter and see if the voltage is correct.

And if you can find another adaptor try plugging it into your notebook to see if the whistling stops or if it continues even with a different adaptor. If it does you can rule out the adaptor and you know its more or less something on the notebook, most likely the motherboard.

Hope this helps, have a nice day.

I have an k410-573 desktop that has an 180w power supplyIBM LITEON 54Y8817 180W THINKCENTRE DESKTOP POWER SUPPLY PS-5181-09VSI was wondering will another power supply like PS-5281 which is a 280w power supply work in place of the one I have now? If there is another one that will work what kind is it.

Answer:changing 180w power supply in k410 to higher watt power supply

hi mehilton,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
You can check your system's Hardware Maintenance Manual and check (page 45)
this is a Part list and upgrade option. You'll find the Power Supply compatible for your system and its part number.

You can call Lenovo Spareparts (877 4536686 and prompts 4....3....2)    about the part number if you're planning to purchase one.
Technically a Generic ATX PSU will work on your system but the problem is some connectors on a K410 PSU is specially made for it and a feature like the Power mode Ambient light will require a original K410 PSU
see this discussion.

Hope this helps

I have a pro A120 with XP on it, it's about 11 months old now. The other day the power supply broke, the wire on the adapter came loose and shorted blowing the power supply. Please can some one tell me how i can contact toshiba to get a new one as the laptop is still under warnety, i can't seem to find a phone or email contact anyhere.

Also i have noticed that the battery life has decreased dramatically, i used to get 3.5 to 4 hours on full battery, now i get about 1.3 hours, which i think is unacceptable. The laoptop is under the same cpu power constrainsts as it was when i brought it so it's not that, i also use the battery right untill it's dead and don't leave it on the ac power supply when the battery is full.

I bought notebook A200-10w. The problem is battery because when I surf on internet or use word the battery endurance is 1 hour. I switch off win aero but there are no changes. What can I do ?

Thanks, Marko

Answer:Satellite A200-10W - I can work only 1 hour on battery power supply

Buying a stronger battery ;)

Well, fact is that Vista notebooks need more battery performance as the XP notebooks..
I found some tests in the computer professional magazine and this is a Vista issue.

You could try to set the different settings in the Vista ?power plant?.
Try to set also the display brightness to a lower level. This you increase the battery performance but don?t except to much

Hello everybody:

I have a Satellite A200-12x. My power supply makes a little noise. The noise is not very loud but it is audible only when it is plugged in, and some work is being actually done with the laptop.

As I say, is not a loud noise, it's a quiet "frying eggs" noise. Has anyone else noticed it? Should I get toshiba to change it for a new one?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Power supply of Satellite A200-12x makes some quiet noise

Hi there,

don?t worry, thats not a big deal. Since your AC must deliver many power to your machine (man, think about, you have a powerful A200 with really strong components -> CPU, VGA, RAM) and such a system needs a lot of power.

Due to this heavy power consumption, the capacitors and transistors in such AC-adapters are strong too.
You have to imagine that not only one capacitor is in there, no, there are over hundreds and some other components which have to regulate the power from the wall to your machine.

I have a Qosmio G30 and you wouldn?t believe what a noise its AC-adapter makes. It sounds like "Brrrrmmmmmmmmmmmm", like a little USV (a battery for desktop PC?s which prevents from data loss in a case of power failure..)

So, I would suggest you to accept it, since all AC?s of every new machine will make such noise.

So, what can I do to fix this problem?

Detect correctly many USB pen drive (led inside ON) but when use "remove secure device" (right bottom) the led remain ON (never switch OFF). This for every model Keystone I have (2, 4, 8GB).

Last old XP based notebook switch OFF correctly power supply. Why this Toshiba not switch OFF right mode the pen drive?

Anticipated Thanks,

Answer:Satellite Pro M500 - Doesn't switch off power supply for USB pen drive

Do you really think that this is an issue?
To be honest sometimes I can notice the same that disconnecting a USB pen drive the LED doesn?t go off but Windows tells me I can remove the drive. So I think if Windows tells me that all should be ok.
What do you think?

Furthermore it would be interesting to know if you are running factory settings or your own Windows installation.
Make also sure that BIOS version is the newest.
