Hello!
I've bought Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef November, and until now laptop worked brilliant. Three-four weeks ago, touchpad, and some space on the left of the touchpad started to be warm. I checked CPU temperature in Toshiba PC Health Monitor (v 1.4.1.64), and it was circa 30%, with 40% use of the cooler. The temperature is incresing in time, and now, after four weeks, touchpad is warmer, and it's about 45-50% temperature od CPU, with 50-60% use of the cooler.
I'm using laptop only for Internet, work in MS Word, and listening music, sometimes I play Warcraft III on it, I've got Windows 7.
Should I go with PC to technical support, or it's normal in my model?
Best regards,
sebastian krysiak

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Hi mate
It?s nothing unusual that the touchpad would be warm since the CPU and cooling modules are placed near the touchpad.
So in my opinion you should not be worried about that.
The notebook?s temperature can increase after some time of usage?
This happens due to dust inside the cooling ventilators?
If you want, you can try to remove the dust using the compressed air spray?
I do this from time to time and this helps to keep the temperature on lower level?

Hello everyone,
I am using an L500 laptop with the following:
Windows Vista 64 bit SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 @2.1 GHz
4GB RAM
Ati Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series.
I have been monitoring my GPU's temperature while running a new game with the GPU-Z utility.
As soon as I start the game the temperature raises from 65-70 C to 90-100+ C within 10 miutes. There seems to be a connection between temp and performance, so when my temp raises the game's fps drops significantly. As soon as I alt tab the temp drops back to normal levels within a couple of minutes.
My question is wheather this high temp is ok or does it indicate some kind of cooling problem? If I clean my laptop should I expect a noticable difference (have never cleaned - been using it for 18 months)? I've read somewhere that upgrading my BIOS from v1.4 could possibly help, is it true and does it worth the risk?
Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks you very much
Hi Mirari,
>If I clean my laptop should I expect a noticable difference (have never cleaned - been using it for 18 months)?
Ohhh yesss, you will you notice a big difference if you already use it for 18 months now and never clean it before. Normally the notebook should be cleaned every 3-4 months and after this time and cleaning you will notice a difference that notebook will run much cooler again but I must say I use my notebook every day.
It?s not difficult to clean the cooling system because you don?t have to disassemble the notebook. Everything what you need is compressed air spray to blow out the dust from cooling ventilators as described here:
[How to clean the cooling system of a Toshiba notebook? |http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=40]

Hi,
I cannot get my Toshiba Satellite L500 13T PSLJ3E to work. Here is the timeline:
1. I brought it with Win Vista, It worked great for about 6 months but started slowing down and I decided to change it to Windows 7
2. I installed the Windows 7 using custom install(creating new "windows" folder, not upgrading Vista). Once again it worked great for about a month, but once again it ran into trouble - showing the Windows 7 version of the blue screen of death for 0.5 seconds followed by a restart.
3. I browsed the net and they said that the easiest way to get rid of the problem is to re-install. I did it(after trying several windows repairs) but yes, thats right, it died - before starting the windows it showed problems with Realtek Wireless.
4. I had hopes that third time - the charm will work and re-re-installed the W7(every time using new installation).
Once more time - doesnt work, but this time I cannot even get to install it - the windows installer stops at around 60% of the expanding files and says: problems with the media device. And after the restart I cannot find the Hard Drive(the BIOS shows only FDD and CD/DVD)
Now I'm stuck here, the only way to start the windows is by Safe Mode on my Wondows installed on point 3, yet not every time .
Unfortunately the first of my Recovery DVDs cannot start and on top of that I cannot enter into the recovery partition by pressing 0 at start up, but I see the Recovery Partition when I go to the WIndows in... Read more
Blue screen and then restart sound's like something with hardware is wrong. I had something like that when my RAM module failed. Check your memory using memtest.
PS. I will not recommend installing windows on windows and reinstalling it. Better format drive and install new clean OS.
edit: or maybe something with your hard drive - if you had an option pull out you hard drive and check it on another computer using HDtune (or something like that)

Hi Forum-User,
Win10 compatibility list from Toshiba for Satellite Laptops without L500 Series! Why?
Look at:

At the moment just newer notebook models are supported for Win10. I am pretty sure that Toshiba will increase the support list and more and more models will be supported.

Hi !
Im looking for best gpu driver for my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 series
Drivers which AMD offers right now are super bad and driver which is connected with my model on toshiba website seems slow too. The best one i saw is the microsoft driver WDDM 1.1.
If you mind telling me is there any better driver for my GPU than the ones listed above?
I have this laptop with 3 Partitions
The main partition got corrupted and apparently wiped so all windows folders have been deleted and a low level format carried out
I still have the recovery sector
Just wondering how to reinstall it back onto the main partition
I tried F8 and it took me to a screen to choose language but after that it said "You must log in to access system recovery options"
I guess user data has been wiped from the main partition ?
Are there any other keys to press on startup to access the Recovery partition ?
Thanks
Hi, I bought Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W and it came with Windows Vista. I tried to downgrade to XP, but it doesn't allow XP installation. Do you know how to downgrade?
Thanks!
Hello & Welcome, toshibaquestion.
Downgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP is actually a very easy thing to do, BUT, I must warn you; it's the smartest of ideas since Windows XP and Windows Vista differ in driver capability and efficiency. So when you want to you use your MIC or Webcam, they may not work, this goes for your Audio, Network and even Display.
Also, Toshiba's a popular brand, and also a very updated** one, meaning they'll most likely be packed with a webcam, nice wireless card, hi-def monitor, etc - meaning, lots more drivers for you to fuss about and have to replace - which, believe me, isn't fun at all.
Downgrading would require you to actually make a partition (D), then install XP on your partition (D), and then delete your previous partition (C) - This is how I would do it, but I'm sure there's many many many other ways.
Dabble into it abit, and see if you find anything interesting. I'll be here to answer any further questions you may have.

Hi,
My L500 fan is no longer working correctly
I am getting this message
Warning:a problem with the cooling system has been detected. please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.
The fan runs inconsistently (always for a few seconds on start-up, very sporadically the rest of the time, but it is completely stationary for the most part.
The computer is currently in pieces, and I am ready to replace the fan with a new one, however im not sure that will fix the problem (as the fan still seems to sometimes run).

Are you going to replace the fan or the entire cooling heatsink and fan? Was the heatsink clogged with dust? Keep in mind, this also may be a motherboard issue

More repliesNo disply on my toshiba satellite L500,power supply led is getting on .
If you still get lights on the edge of the laptop & you can hear the fan spinning and harddisk clicking a bit but nothing at all is appearing on the display then it's either the screen or the power inverter that have gone. Either way it's not really something you can do yourself, take it to a technician to sort out. If you are not getting any lights, fan or clicking sound then it is a power issue - the LED doesn't necessarily mean that the power supply is ok. Again, not much you can do yourself, take it to an expert."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

How/Where do you download the latest version of Toshiba Assist?
My laptop is a Satellite L500.
Thanks
Your question is pretty general so here is my answer:
You can download it from Toshiba download page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
If you need more details please post exact model name and preinstalled OS version.
Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-13C with a motherboard totally damaged, and despite it is an old PC, I need it for the University. So I want only to know what is the serial number of this motherboard (if it exists), or the Motherboard model that are compatible with my pc, in order to buy it on Internet, because in the shops the cost are really excessive. Sorry for my English.
More repliesWhat is it with Toshiba? The part number is clearly printed on the label on the underside of the laptop but the corresponding part number appears nowhere on the Toshiba support pages. This seems to occur with most Toshiba laptops that I have ever had anything to do with. Trying to find drivers, BIOS etc is a real PITA. I'm trying to find downloads for a Satellite L500 PSLS6A-00X013 but it doesn't show up any where. The serial number search is as useless as the part number search. Am I missing something?

For a start, turn off CAPS LOCK - it's considered to be shouting & many will ignore you.Did the laptop come with Windows 7 or have you installed it later? Are you sure there are drivers available for the wireless card - check the manufacturer's website if necessary. Some Toshiba laptops have a separate wireless switch on the front edge - if it's there make sure it is in the 'on' position. The usual key combination, as far as I recall, is Fn and F8 pressed at the same time (not F8 on its own) - there should be an LED that lights up on the front edge of the laptop when the wireless adapter is on."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"
This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.
I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

i am new to this website and using forums, the message that comes up on my computer is
system warning
Warning:a problem with the cooling system has been detected. please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.
i am currently working in the alps and do not have an english speaking computer shop near by.
could any one help me and advise me what to do, i do not know much about taking a laptop apart to clean or change parts.
I would purchase a can of compressed air or use an air compressor (with a light gentle nozzle) and blow the dust out of the inside. If you have a failed cooling fan, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. That model I think is rather old, it may not be worth it to repair.
OK so i have just received an older laptop that im trying to resurrect.
O/S : Windows 7Model : Toshiba satellite L500 PSLS3A-04M002Battery model NO : PA3534U-1BRS
It died a few days ago and refuses to boot, press the power button -> power LED glows briefly and goes out.
As it's a smart battery you can't boot directly off the AC adaptor because it's expecting a signal over the SMBus (IIRC) power LED doesn't even light up with A/C only with the battery is removed.
I believe it's the battery.
First because i disassembled the laptop, cleaned it, and put it back together, nothing seemed wrong with other system components.
Second, it's only a small 3620mAh Li-ion that (AFAIK) hasn't been changed since the laptop was bought (roughly 2011/2012) so im thinking the charge cycles have been well and truly used up.
OK no problem, searched around online using the battery model number (above), found a replacement
Cool, battery's enroute, should be here in the next few days.
Now the interesting part... When i go on Toshiba's site to look for some specs/drivers... the Laptop model doesn't exist, even under the discontinued models section... But there are a whole bunch of other models :

The HDMI port on my Satellite L500 laptop is not sending information to my sony bravia tv. All was working fine up until a couple of days ago. When i plug the hdmi lead into the port, it seems as if the laptop is aware it's plugged in as the screen flickers. The fn +F5 keys do as they should, but no picture appears on the tv. The tv shows a lead is plugged in also and again the screen flicks to say a source is there but then remains black. I can't see an issue in device manager and all drivers are saying they're up to date. I have also tried a new hdmi lead but nothing. Can anyone help with this?
Try running a System Restore back to a previous point when it was working.
If still not working uninstall and re-install the graphics drivers from the Toshiba Support site for your model.

Hello
To be honest I don?t know 100% what your problem is.
If you want to watch DVD movie on your computer using Toshiba DVD player but the pic should be shown on the external display please do as follow:
When you have connected HDMI cable to external (other) screen, use FN+F5 and switch to this external display only. When you see desktop on the external display start Toshiba DVD player and I think everything should be OK.

Hi
Are you using the Tempro tool in order to register the notebook?
If yes, then you should update this tool to the latest version v3.33
Check this:

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 PSLS0A-019002 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed that I received two months ago as a gift.
Apart from disliking some the quirky and useless (to me) Windows Vista / 7 features, as the desktop is loading I get the error message "Toshiba Service Station has stopped working" which proceeds to find a solution, but apparently never finds one because this condition repeats itself every time I boot.
On another thread in these Toshiba forums, someone suggested downloading the independent utility called Toshiba Service Station and reinstalling it. I do not see such utility listed on the downloads page for my Toshiba model. Since I don't even know what the Toshiba Service Station does (unless it goes by another name - Toshiba Bulletin Board perhaps?), I have no idea what is causing the error or how to correct it.
Does anyone have a more precise solution?
Hi,
Service Station is not currently active in Australia, so you can simply uninstall it.
My L500 wants me to update my CD creator and when I do the computer tells me that it can only be done on 64 bit OS.
Which it should be preinstalled from Toshiba.
Sattelite L500 PSLS3E-01T00VN5)
Hi cba1,
Is this update necessary or can you ignore this update message?
In my opinion updates only necessary if something doesn?t work properly?
I don?t use Toshiba CD creator because there are some good alternative (freeware) programs, like CD Burner XP. Have you ever heard of that?
If not it?s worth a try!!! ;)

Hi Forum,
I have a Toshiba L500 Laptop that suddenly stopped booting. When I try to boot it, it does not complete the POST process and there is no indication of what is wrong. The screen is just blank.
The fan turns on and I hear it spinning. Also, I momentarily hear the HDD spinning before it stops. I know there is power to the HDD, USB ports and the optical drive.
However, there is no power going to the keyboard as the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK LED does not light up after I press it.
I have tried testing the CMOS battery, changing the HDD and the F2 and BACKSPACE key test without any success.
I am interested to know:
1. In what sequence does the POST process test the attached devices/peripherals?
2. Are there any suggestions as to what might be faulty and how best to fix this?
Your assistance is much appreciated,
Worried
There are 3 external USB ports on this L500 modelPSLS6C-00F005. The one on the front right has developed a problem. Nothing is recognized when plugged in. An unrecognized device error pops randomly even with nothing plugged in to the front port. When the error pops the other 2 ports stop working momentarily. For instance the wired mouse I have connected to the working port will stop, then be re-detected. The trackpad always works.
While running windows 7, I fiddled with drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling USB components in device manager and I disabled the faulty device but the error returns. I found that disabling the usb hub component made the error go away. Unfortunately the other 2 ports are attached to the same hub so I lose all usb functionality.
I decided to try and do a fresh and clean install of Windows 10 in hopes of curing the USB issue but that didn't do the trick. I found I can turn off the annoying error notification and that the error is a bit more descriptive "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed) driver error.
Disabling the device in device manager seems to lessen the problem but in Windows 10 the device keeps getting re-enabled.
Does anybody have any idea what I might do towards correcting this issue, although I expect it's a hardware problem. Is there a way to permanently disable that one particular usb port?
Hi,

Installing from where? A DVD? Did you format the drive before installing it? Did the laptop work fine before you started the reinstall or was there a problem that made you do this?

Hi there,
I reinstalled Windows 7 (from a Windows 7 disk not the Toshiba recovery files).
And everything was working fine, but after restarting once after some updates the mouse and keyboard stopped working!
I found I could get the keyboard to work by pushing the power button to send it to sleep then waking it up, but then the mouse still didn't work.
I can push F2 on the keyboard to get into the BIOS, but can't navigate in it (but can with a USB keyboard.)
Mouse and keyboard don't work in safe mode even.
USB keyboards and mice work fine all the time.
The laptop is a

The recommendation is to unscrew the cover over the hard drive and remove the drive. Then replace it and make sure it seated snug. Put the cover back and reboot. Let us know how it goes.
I need a new keyboard for my L500 and found out, that the keyboad of the P200 (and some other models) seems to be the same (105 keys, num pad, 2 win keys). Are those keyboards 100% compatible or do they just look the same?
Hi
In my opinion this question is for Toshiba service and not for user-to-user forum.
Anyway I think that both keyboards are not the same and you should order 100% identical keyboard designed for your notebook model.
Question is: why do you look for keyboards for old notebook models if you can order new one for L500.
On eBay you can get it quite affordable.
hi there!!
i had a toshiba satellite a300 that unfortunately died... i want to take the hard disk drive from it an put it on my cousin's toshiba satellite l500 laptop...
I siply put it to l500 but it stacks at a point that shows again and again something about media test and more...
What i'm supposed to do?
Te strange (to me that i'm not very computer guy) is that at bios setting shows the model of the hard disk...
I mean that the l500 recognises the drive...please help me...
thanks in advance..
Hi
Satellite A300 supports the same HDD like a Satellite L500. Both use the SATA HDD therefore the inserted HDD should work.
Its good sign, that the HDD is visible in BIOS. This means that HDD is recognized and in good condition.
I?m wondering what you have done after the HDD has been inserted.
Did you try to install the system using Toshiba recovery disk or another disk?
Did you try to format the HDD firstly?
Try to boot form the system disk and format the HDD firstly.
Then follow with system installation
I would like to know what the maximum internal temp. for a Toshiba Laptop should be. I downloaded a system and the temp. showed 113F. Is that normal? Can you please give me a website that has more accurate information on internal temps, or tell me what my temp should be running at. Thank you so much for your help. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Dwayne
Considering its a toshiba laptop, that is fine as I have one myself and the temps are slightly hotter idle and mine is fine. Just be careful putting it on fabrics, e.g. beds, matresses etc.
I recommend SpeedFan as it recognises not far from all of the temps. Although it isnt a single exe application it is very useful.
Hope i helped, chazshep
EDIT: make sure to click the Speedfan 4.38 link as the advertisements look a tad dodgy. i couldn't hotlink sorry.
Hello
I'm wondering if there are any temperature sensors in Toshiba's notebooks A50 series - I have a Satellite A50-111. If the answer is positive, is there a special utility that can be used to display the temperatures?
Thanks.
Hi,
Yes, there are some temperature sensors. As far as I know there are some tools that can access temperature sensors available on your pc. By accessing available hardware monitor chips, some of them can show temperatures, voltages and fan speeds. Most of them are working properly with desktops but not with notebooks.
I did not try yet but some friends of mine have sampled some tools but without any success. If you find one and want to use it for changing fan?s speed or something like that, do it at your own risk.

When I ran a diagnostic report on my laptop (Satellite L500-1XL) it said that my RAM was low and to upgrade it for better performance - it has been very slow to start up as of late.
However I have discovered that my model has been discontinued and I'm not sure what to do.
Any suggestions?
Bear in mind I am a total novice when it comes to computers so nothing too technical please!
Thank you.
With more RAM your notebook will have better performance.
According notebook specification your notebook is delivered with 2 GB RAM but it can be upgraded up to 4 GB.
So buy second 2 GB RAM and upgrade your notebook.
I have a Satellite L500-02C and I install Windows 7 32bit from original version of 64bit to run application that wouldn't work on it. I have installed all drivers for the 32bit, but I am having trouble getting the drivers for the touchpad (synaptic) also the driver for the function keys. I have tried the Toshiba web site download from there but they don't work.
Can anyone help?
Download and install the 32bit versions of the Toshiba Value Added Package and the Flashcards Support Utility from the L500 drivers page. 64bit version may not work.
2 more repliesOn the spesifications of the Satelite L500-1V1 it says that there is 4096MB DDR3 RAM with 1066MHz, but why is there only 533MHz in each card?
I don't suppose you have to multiply it with 2?
Hi
As far as I know the notebook has been equipped with the DDR3 1066MHz (PC3-8500) 2GB modules?
There are two modules means notebook uses 4GB RAM.
But the 1066MHz can be reached only if the FSB (front side bus) would support 1066MHz too?

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-1XC. will it take an solid state drive to replace the hdd inside it now?
I was looking at the Toshiba 120gb stor.E comes with caddy, cables, and software to clone you old hdd, its SATA III.
IS MY LAPTOP SATA III?
Of course you can use SSD. When you do this you will see how fast your notebook runs.
I recommend you Samsung 840 Series SSD. I use it with my Satellite notebook.
Which one you want to use is your decision.

my note book model is this one. When i buy this computer on last December. I install 32bit Window 7 . Then i found out the ram only used 2.84GB.
So i follow the toshiba webpage to recover my computer and upgrate to 64bit Window7. But final i found out the ram still 4GB (2.84GB used)
so how can i make the ram from 2.84 to 4.00 GB ?????? = ''4.00GB (4.00GB used)
Thanks
Hi,
Not sure if it solves your problem but try:
Go Start-Control Panel-System security -Administrative tools- System configuration-Boot - advanced options
make sure that maximum Memory option is not checked. If it's checked, uncheck, press Apply, Ok and restart.

I wonder if there exists a software (or a tweak to Toshiba RAID utilities/drivers) that would allow monitoring of the HDD temperature.
Well-known utilities like SpeedFan, HDTune etc, that I tried, and that work fine at least with the IDE drives, either do not notice the RAID SATA hard disk at all on my Tecra S3, or they cannot access the S.M.A.R.T information about the temperature (possibly the information cannot pass through Toshiba RAID drivers..)
Thnx for any feedback.
Hi
I use the ?Everest? home edition.
But I am a owner of the notebook with a IDE HDD drive and to tell the truth I?m not sure if it will support the RAID feature.
But you can test it.
This utility reports the HDD and the CPU temperature and provides many useful and detailed information about the notebook hardware specifications.
Hopefully it will works
L500 suddenly started to hang on shutdown forcing manual power off sequence next morning. "Shutting Down" message visible. On power up login process sometimes fails. I have resorted to starting in safe-mode and shutting down before "starting the day" normally to be on the safe side. Nothing installed but Adobe Air upgraded.
Any one else experiencing similar symptoms?
Maybe other programs (like adobe... something) are looking for updates and blocking shutdown or maybe you have some bugs on you computer. Scan computer for viruses and some malware.

I would like to restore my Toshiba back to the factory settings.
I have tried to press F8 during startup to acces repair menu, but the recovery wizard is not an option.
I have tried pressing 0 while starting up but no recovery wizard there either.
I can see the HDD folder at the drive E: but there does not seem to be an option for starting recovery there eihter
Any suggestions what to do?
Do you use original preinstalled OS hat you got with your notebook or own OS version?
Have you created recovery discs? If yes, use these discs for recovey image installation.
I formatted my Satellite L500-1ZP (PSLS9E) and thought idd install win xp instead of win7 (dont have the backup disk/partition)
now when i start it up with the windows XP cd in it the blue screen "windows setup" starts but when its finished loading it gives me an error code:
"*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78DA63C, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"
I've read somewhere that I need to download SATA drivers for my laptop and make a windows xp installation disk with the SATA drivers on it???
I've tried searching these drivers but i dont know wich ones i need and how to make the installation disk
Do I copy my original windows XP home cd and put the drivers in a folder somewhere on the disk?
I hope someone can solve my problem because the laptop is just one year old and I dont really want to buy a new one...
I just hope you have created recovery DVD before you have started to install own OS. After own OS installation you will not have access to recovery data anymore.
You are right. For WXP installation you need SATA driver. How to install WXP on newer notebook models you can read on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB85017Z0000R01.htm
At the end I must say that your last sentence is pretty confusing for me. You have bought notebook designed for Win7 and you want to use old WXP on it. Do you really think you must buy new notebook if you want to install WXP?
Hi,
My brother's Laptop refuses to start up, It won't even let me get into Safe Mode by pressing F8, I have to hold the power on button but when I let go the power light comes on for about a second but then disappears.
This happened after It asked him to do a System Restore at start-up, but then it didn't boot up after that, Any help?
Hi,
Can you enter the Bios pressing F2 on powering up? Have you tried to restore from Hdd recovery? You say that has started after trying to do a System restore, so I guess the bootsect.exe corrupted... If you have Windows live Cd try to boot up from it.
Hello,
i can't install Windows 8.1 (Windows 8 is running successfull). Is this "by design" (maybe missing support for things like PAE, NX or SSE2. see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...is-pae-nx-sse2).
Thanks for help
Frank
If Win 8 runs on your notebook properly, then it should be possible to upgrade the Win 8 to Windows 8.1 too…
In order to get Win 8.1, install all Win 8 updates and then access the Windows Store to get the Win 8.1 update.
It should be possible to install the Win 8.1 update in case Win 8 is already up to date.
Hi, I would like to get a new charger for Toshiba. My first charger got lost and the second charger that I bought from ebay 3 months ago for ?10,- has stopped working. Where can I get a charger from? I googled and I found couple of wesbites e.g.
http://www.electronicavenue.co.uk/toshiba-satellite-pro-l500-1d4-laptop-charger-6380-p.asp
Chargers cost around 25-30 GBP. I don't want anymore problems with a charger. I am already behind schedule...
Where can I get a good charger from or that is genuine. Any other suggestions are welcome
Thank you in advance
The charger you found is OK and I think you don't need original Toshiba charger.
If you want to have Toshiba one the part number is PA3716E-1AC3.
Check it out. Googling around you will find it.
Hi,
I am experiencing a "little" problem. Everything started with the following BSOD :
0x00009C (0x00000000, 0x8922c94c, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I managed to find out that the touchpad is faulty. I disconnected it , problem solved.
It was working fine until I noticed that only one core is working out of 2 (Intel i3 M330).
In the BIOS I found:
Dynamic CPU Freqency Mode - Always Low
Core Multi-Processing - Disabled
So I switched them on to:
Dynamic CPU Frequency Mode - Dynamic
Core Multi-Processing - Enabled
For first the windows 7 64bit crashed with the followind BSOD message:
STOP 0x0000009C (0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF88002F6BB70, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)
Since this message I can switch it on but there is no display, no response.
Is there any solution for this?
Modell: Satellite L500- 1QK
PSLS9E-01000SEN
>Since this message I can switch it on but there is no display, no response.
I?m afraid I don?t understand this? what do you mean by ?no display? exactly?
Can you see the Toshiba splash screen and can you access the BIOS properly?
From my understanding this BIOS should be set to default settings (in BIOS press F9 and F10 to save the changes) in order to get the same BIOS settings configured by Toshiba? then the BIOS should be configured properly.
Generally speaking the BSOD appears due to serious software or hardware problem.
In most cases the system recovery should solve system problems but if the BSOD would still appear even after the usage of recovery disk, then I would assume your hardware is affected.
This would mean that any single hardware parts like memory or motherboard should be tested
Hi,
I have a Toshiba L500-176 with Windows 7 Home Premium (64), only one month old and I have a problem with it.
Suddenly, it stopped connecting via wifi, I thought it would be to have installed or uninstalled a program and restores the system to a previous point where if it worked, but still did not detect connections, so I restored the former point, asin but I kept working.
I have tried to activate the wifi with the famous combination fn + f8 but as happens to many people is no particular combination appears on the screen (but on the keyboard). So look at the ConfigFree where it appears that the wlan connection is not available. "
The connections via ethernet cable running smoothly, but as withdrawal cord, no wifi option anywhere.
I tried to fix it with drivers available for this model but no way, as a last alternative format the computer to see if he returned to its original state, but still not working, the wifi light comes on only when you reboot, at first.
There a solution? why looking for information I've found many people with the same problem and few solutions.
PD: certainly in the device manager you see only the Realtek PCIe Controller Family. And right now I have no ethernet cable connected...

As I see, you have made a factory restores settings but it is still not working. Also, it's not shown in device manager that makes me think that there is hardware malfunction related to wifi module. You said it's only one month and still under warranty. So, contact the Asp (service center) in your country:

Hi,
i had to recover my Satellite L500 ( windows 7 )after the originial hard drive crashed and I had to replace it with a new hard drive(Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BPVT 500GB). I used the original recovery dvd but the installation stoped after the reboot while starting windows. with this error message: Setup Could not configure Windows on this hard ware.
Does anybody know a solution to this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Florian
Have you tried to install recovery image few times?
Does it always end with same error message?
Hi All
I am new to this forum. I have been given a Toshiba Satellite L500 to attempt to repair and the fault is that the laptop was shutdown normally and now will not turn on.
I have checked the power adapter which is giving out 19.25v. I have stripped the laptop down to motherboard level and have checked where the DC jack plug is soldered to the motherboard and that also reads 19.25v with the adapter plugged in. Can anyone suggest a possible cause.
My initial thoughts are a motherboard failure but any other ideas are very welcome.
Gary
Your description is OK but we still don?t know some facts.
When notebook is connected to AC power supply is power LED on notebook ON or not?
Is battery LED on (charging)?
On this virtual way we can just speculate what the problem can be but if there is no power supply there must be problem with power supply electronic and, I?m afraid, you need some professional help with this.
I see that I have three Primary partitions already made on this new L500 ~
1.) 2GiB /dev/hda1 for Toshiba Recovery,
2.) 330+GiB (C:) for Vista and 3.) 12GiB /dev/hda3 ???.
I need to dual boot two windows installations and use and extended partition for Linux and Storage.
What is the third partition for and can I configure things so that I can save it within a Logical Partition ?
My aim is:
/dev/hda1 = Toshiba Recovery
/dev/hda2 = Vista
/dev/hda3 = Windows 7 ~ RC7
/dev/hda4 = Extended for all others ( including Linux, the 12GiB existing and a common storage space as well.)
Any suggestions or thoughts before I dive in ?
Regards, SnapafunFrank
Hi
The third partition belongs to Vista.
Vista creates two partitions; one a usual partition to install system and the second hidden partition for backup files. These backup files are important for Vista. Vista needs it to repair the OS if something will go wrong?
So it?s strongly recommended to leave this partition on the HDD?
I didn't use my laptop for 2 weeks and now when I try to turn it on there is no sign of life other than the power lights at the front when it's plugged in. It's not just a screen issue - there are no whirring noises or anything when I try to turn it on, I just get nothing.
So far I have tried:
A power cycle
Changing the power supply and battery with my dad's identical computer.
Removing each of the two RAM sticks one at a time, repeating the power cycle, and trying to turn on.
Disconnecting the DVD drive and turning on.
None of these worked.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Hi
> Removing each of the two RAM sticks one at a time, repeating the power cycle, and trying to turn on.
What you could try to power up the unit using the RAM modules which are used in Dad?s identical notebook.
In case this does not help, I would assume some kind of motherboard malfunction might be the reason why the notebook cannot be powered ON.
How to solve this?
I guess you have no many options; the faulty part needs to be replaced. But I think this is a matter of expense
Hi
I have to buy a new keyboard for my Toshiba L500-1V1.
Could somebody please tell me which keyboards are suitable for Toshiba L500-1V1?
I have to get it as soon as possible and it seems to be impossible to find an original Toshiba keyboard replacement here in Finland.
That is why I am wondering if some other brands keyboard (f.ex asus, acer, hp, samsung, lenovo) would suit my computer because they are available in stores?
Thank you in advance!
Hi
The Satellite L500 supports and is equipped with an standard black A4+10key keyboard.
Usually keyboards released for other notebook series using the same layout (A4+10key type) should be compatible.
Furthermore you can always order a compatible keyboard from Toshiba authorized service partner in your country.

Hy!
Where can I get the driver for the FN key?
Hello
You can download all drivers and tools here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
You need Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility.
I don't find the model L500-1ET and its drivers. Is this model XP compatible?
Hi willy,
As far as I know the Satellite L500-1ET belongs to the PSLJTE series and therefore you can find all driver on the Toshiba page:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
I have checked this and it seems that your model is XP compatible. You can download all drivers for XP. :)
Help!
Just got the laptop out of the box (new) - turned it on.
Windows 7 Administrtaor account is locked and Other User won't recognise password / name.

Hi
Try this:
Power up the unit and press F8.
Choose Repair My Computer and then choose HDD Recovery.
The HDD recovery should start again and you should be able to reinstall the OS.
Good luck
Hi!
I would like to ask for your help in the following problem:
I bought a Toshiba L500-14Z (PSLJDE-001007G3) and I would like to use it with windows XP.
I read that I must find the drivers manually for my hardware-s, but I am not sure...
Which models have the same Chipset, LAN, Soundcard, Videocard, WIFI?
I found only this information, and it was not enough for me:
(I mean it is not too specific about the given hardware parts...)
- T6500 Intel GM45 Express chipset
(Any other GM45 Chipset driver can be used, or should I search for one with the same processor?)
(Is the soundcard included in the chipset driver? If not... what sound driver should I use? - I didn't find any specification about the soundcard.)
- Intel WiFi Link 5100 network adapter
(Is it LAN + WIFI?)
- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
I would really appreciate your help!
Thx!
Hi
As you said the notebook supports the Mobile Intel(R) GM45 Express Chipset.
The driver can be found here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=3032&lang=eng
The Wlan card is Intel WiFi Link 5100AGN and the drivers are here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads
The graphic card is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570.
I think you will need to check some 3rd party pages for a compatible driver because I didn?t find anything on the Toshiba page?
Having just purchased a laptop as above I am faced with the question of what speed DVD to use.
The John Lewis PC after sales help service advised me that times 16 DVD's sometimes cause trouble and that I should seek X8 and use these if possible although they say they are now almost as rare a hens teeth. The say that a X16 may be OK but X8 would be more reliable.
I have not booted up my laptop yet as am awaiting supply of X8 that I located on Ebay as advised DVD-R NOT + should be used. I note that the disc tray is marked Rewritable + leading to more confusion.
Will make copy of operating software when the X8 are received and not before.
Any advise or observations would be most appreciated
Since long time I always use the same DVDs and I have never, but really never noticed some burning problems, especially not creating recovery medias.
I use TDK DVD-R 1-16x speed empty medias.
Recently I noticed that my newly acquired Toshiba Satellite Laptop's fan (Windows 7 64 Bit, Pentium T4300) is permanently running at approx. 50% (according to the Toshiba PC Health Monitor), even if there's 0% CPU usage.
Is this normal?
Or do I have to change some settings in the BIOS or something?
I also believe this effect started after a BIOS update which was released by Toshiba a few days ago...
Thanks in advance
Hi
Did you load the default settings in BIOS after the update?
Furthermore you can adjust the cooling method in Windows Power Options. There you can set the cooling method for each power profile, for example Maximum Performance or Battery Optimized. I would recommend choosing the Battery Optimized cooling method, it?s enough in my opinion and the notebook is more silent.
Check this!!!

Hi
I don?t understand what you mean exactly;
You cannot find HDD for this notebook or cannot find Windows installed on HDD?
Can you boot Windows; yes or no?
PS: it would be really, really useful for all other users here in the forum, if you could spend a little bit more effort writing an posting here; means more info and more user-friendly text.
My laptop will not switch on unless the cable from the on off switch is disconnected and the connections are bridged on the motherboard. Any suggestions please?

Hello
As far as I know newest notebook models will not be supported for WXP anymore. At some point WXP must be history and you should use newest hardware with newest OS.
Anyway, your notebook model has Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset and if you need WXP drivers you are on your own. Google is your friend! ;)
I just hope you have created recovery installations DVD before you installed WXP.

2 more repliesLast week I bought a brand new Satellite L 500 laptop with Inter i3 processor, 1 GB ATI graphic card, 4 GB ram, etc.
Everything is OK in general, however, I find the fan to be very very noisy.
I used to own a HP Pavillion laptop and could hardly notice the fan while with my new laptop the fan noise is really loud.
Does anybody know if this is normal or if this could be fixed somehow?
I researched the internet for a solution but I could not find any and apparently nobody is complaining about the fan noise on L 500 laptops so perhaps it is me only that have this problem?
Thanks.

For optimal notebook usage use ?Balanced? power plan. Go to advanced settings for this plan and in Toshiba power saver you can find ?Cooling method? option.
Reduce the level there. I am pretty sure notebooks fan will be much quieter than before.
Hi,
I?m looking for new keyboard for my laptop Toshiba Satellite L500-19x because it is broken.

Hi,
Maybe you should contact TASP (Toshiba service center) in your country. Replacing the keyboard it's not complicated procedure but requires some skills. They can replace it for you.

Hi
Your notebook has Realtek LAN card inside.
I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite L500, switched it on and the first thing it is doing is going to the "System Recover Menu". Is this what it is supposed to do???
I selected the 64 bit option and now it comes up with a big "WARNING" that all my data will be overwritten. HELP please...do I go ahead with this system recovery stuff.
This is a brand new laptop never been switched on before.
This notebook model is not known to me but I presume your notebook is delivered with Vista 32-bit and Vista 64-bit operating systems. When you start it for the first time you must make decision which one you want to use.
If you choose 64-bit version other one will be deleted and you can use installed version only.
So think twice before you choose OS you want to use.
Later when the OS is installed first thing you should do is to create recovery installation DVD. If something goes wrong you will be able to install chosen operating system using this disc.
For DVD creation use please preinstalled "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". I am pretty sure shortcut for quick start you can find on the desktop.
Hi I have a second hand Satellite L500-1XC, the previous owner has installed Ubuntu (which I can't access due to password) as well as windows 7 and I'm trying the laptop restore it to factory settings but I just don't know how.
I've tried turning it off and then holding 0 and pressing the start button. On start up the bottom of the screen does say HDD Recovery at the bottom left of the screen but after that it just goes to the selection part for me to pick either Ubuntu or Windows 7 and then just loads the laptop as normal.
I have tried looking for the Recovery Media Creator but I can't find it. It seems many of the original Toshiba utilities and supports have been deleted.
If anyone can help me to fix this laptop I would be so grateful as I really can't afford to buy a recovery disk from Toshiba.
Thanks
> I'm trying the laptop restore it to factory settings but I just don't know how
I don?t think that HDD recovery would work because the Linux has been installed on the HDD and I think the partition table has been changed.
This might be the reason why the HDD recovery isn?t working.
You could still check this Toshiba document which describes the whole HDD recovery procedure:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
So now HDD recovery does not work? in this case you can use only the installation disk.
You can try to install Windows 7 using Microsoft disk (the Toshiba drivers are downloadable) or you will order the disk from Arvato:
http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
The AC Adaptor on my Satellite L500 died while the laptop was in for warranty repairs (again), the repairer put the cord straight in the bin without recording the part number for me.
How can I find out the PA number to buy a replacement adaptor?
Thanks
Hi
What you need is 19V AC adapter. You can use several AC adapters but can you please post exact notebook model name (L500-xxx)?
Hi.
My notebook have a built in camera, and this camera thos not inicialize,
I ave done a HDD recovery, and after that the web camera software was not installed. I downloaded de this software an the camera drivers and instaled it in the laptop, but the camera, but the camera doesn't work any way.
There are some way to fix it?
Thank you.
The question is: is cam hardware recognized and detected by the system or not?
Can you see it in device manager?
I would like to ask if this model can take video card with bigger memory or if this card can take bigger memory

Toshiba doesn't support GPU upgrade so you cannot use more powerful graphic card with your notebook.
Unfortunately hardware upgrade is very limited and supported is RAM and HDD upgrade.
Hi,
Does anyone know where in the UK (Web or email address) I can obtain a Hard drive caddy and screws for a Satellite L500-1XC. Part No.AM073000200 ?
Thks
Peter.
Hi
What caddy do you need exactly?
An external USB 2.5? HDD caddy in order to connect the notebook?s HDD to an USB port?
As far as I know the notebook supports SATA 2.5? HDD so you will need an SATA USB caddy.
I have an 4-5 years old Toshiba L500-128 and I'd like to upgrade the CPU. Atm I have a Core 2 Duo T6500. I know that I can put a T9500 in it, but if possible I'd like to put even a better one. So I have a few questions:
1) Can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB speed and will it work? T6500 has 800 FSB.
2) Can I put a CPU with 44 or 45W TDP? T6500 has 35W.
3) If answer is yes to both previous questions, can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB and 45W?
Is possible I'd like to put something like T9900 or even a Quad Core.
Thanks in advance :)
>1) Can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB speed and will it work? T6500 has 800 FSB.
In my opinion you should check the chipset compatibility and the CPU support.
As far as I know the notebook?s motherboard supports the Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset
On Intel Ark page I could find the Intel mobile GM45 chipset specs and compatible products:
http://ark.intel.com/products/35134/Intel-82GM45-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller-Hub
However, fact is that new CPU needs to be supported by the chipset and BIOS.
If one of the parts (chipset or BIOS) would not support the new CPU, the notebook will not boot up.
Additionally you should also know that notebook manufacturers don?t support CPUs upgrade.
What does this mean exactly?
This means that even if the chipset would support new CPU, the BIOS could be the troublemaker and would not support the upgraded CPU. From my long experience, there are no information about the BIOS support. Therefore the CPU upgrade is always an risky procedure. Maybe it will work, maybe not?
Hi
My Satellite L500-1DT laptop won't start it goes into the start-up repair procedure automatically viewing the diagnostic and repair details it says it cannot determine what the problem is.
If I select the advanced options I am asked to select a key board but then I get a message that says you must logon on to gain access to the repair functions and all I can do then is reboot.
If I press F8 and try safe mode I just get the same repair features. I don't know what to do to proceed as all the options take me to the same place. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
When you press F8 at start up can you see option ?Repair my computer??
Have you created recovery DVD?
brand new L500, downloaded a few programmes, all of a sudden, cant use the touchpad at all
i can use external mouse no prob
Thanks
Is maybe touchpad disabled with FN+F9?
Please use this key combination and be sure touchpad is enabled.
hello,
I just bought a new Satellite L500-1EH, Windows 7 and none of my function keys work with the fn keys seem to work (meaning that when I press fn key + one of the function keys nothing happens). Does somebody know how can I solve it?
thank you very much,
Roni
Hi
What do you think about installing the drivers for FN keys?
You have to download Toshiba Value Added Package that you can find on the Toshiba website.

I had a similar issue and after installing this Toshiba all everything works. :)
I have a Satellite L500 purchased in Portugal. My daughter has filled the keyboard with sugary tea. Fortunately the computer still works, but the keys are now very sticky and do not work properly.
I want to replace the keyboard. Will a UK spec board work on the computer? I changed the keyboard settings in Windows whilst using the Portuguese board.
Failing that, can I use a usb board with the laptop?
> Will a UK spec board work on the computer?
Yes. Just be sure you have right keyboard designed for L500. You can get it cheap on eBay.
> Failing that, can I use a usb board with the laptop?
Of course.
Hello, I hope some one can help.
The computer is of my brother and he lost the installation cd and we need it to reinstall windows and all the features. I hope some one can help us.
thanks!
If you use original OS that you got with your notebook you can create new recovery DVD using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator software.
You can also try to reinstall original recovery image using HDD recovery option - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
If not than you must order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
Hello, I have to replace my whole heatsink on my Satellite L500-1XZ. Any idea where I can find a heatsink for that model, because I searched and searched and can't find anything yet.
The exact model is L500-1XZ PSLJHE
number on the heatsink is: AT0920020V0 AVCS 0A 101E
Please if somebody have any info about where I can find heatsink help me! Thank you!
I my opinion all L500 have the same construction and I also think that you must simply search heatsink for L500. With a little bit luck you can find it on eBay or googling around.
Other way contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask if you can order a part with this part number. I hope they can do this for you.
