Satellite L500 - Unable to find SRS audio device

Question: Satellite L500 - Unable to find SRS audio device

During startup of my Satellite L500, a message comes up stating - unable to find compatible srs audio device. This only happened when I upgraded to windows 7.

Can anyone advise how to fix this problem?

Preferred Solution: Satellite L500 - Unable to find SRS audio device

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500 - Unable to find SRS audio device

I have Satellite L500 too but I couldn?t notice this problem. SRS audio device this has something to do with sound driver I think.

What do you think about updating this driver? You can get it here: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Before you install the newest version I would recommend removing the old one first. Make a restart and install the latest one.

Are there any Windows 7 drivers available for the "USB Multimedia Audio Device" as found on an R700 with the Toshiba Hi-Speed Port Replicator II (PA3916U-1PRP)?

In "Devices and Printers" there is a device in the +Unspecified+ section refered to as a +USB Multimedia Audio Device+. Windows 7 can't find any drivers for it. Audio appears to work fine through the port replicator.

The only related issue I've seen is that sometimes, when I press the "eject" button, Windows complains a device is in use and the eject fails. This is very similar to the issue reported as "[R700 Undock from P3838 issue|]".

In my case Windows doesn't tell me either the device in use or the application using it. I strongly suspect the audio device.

I haven't found a workaround so have to either manually eject it despite the failure or sleep it and then manually eject it. I haven't noticed either approach necessarily being better.

Answer:Portege R700 - Win7 - Unable to find driver for USB Multimedia Audio Device

HI PeterH,

Just one simple question: Do you use the preinstalled Windows 7 version from Toshiba and do you have more unknown devices in device manager or just this ?USB Multimedia Audio Device??

I recently installed Windows 7 on my L500-164 with all Vista 64 driver. I didn't find special drivers for Windows 7 x64 on the drivers download page.
But there is still one device with an unknown state in the device manager. I installed all avaible drivers so I don't know what that may be. How can I find out and install the proper driver? The device's name is just "unknown"

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite L500-164 Unkown Device in Device Manager

Hello Feodor

You confuse me completely. If the Win7 64bit drivers are not available how you can write ?I installed all available drivers?? What drivers you installed?

Anyway, open properties for this unknown device and go to details. There you can find device ID.
Send us this device ID.

I don?t understand what you mean exactly;
You cannot find HDD for this notebook or cannot find Windows installed on HDD?
Can you boot Windows; yes or no?

PS: it would be really, really useful for all other users here in the forum, if you could spend a little bit more effort writing an posting here; means more info and more user-friendly text.

I have just purchased a Satellite L500 with Windows 7 pre-installed. When I try to eject USB devices - both memory stick and a mobile modem, nothing happens and the indicators on the devices show they are still connected. My old laptop with XP was capable of stopping devices.

The devices work correctly when inserted. Is this an issue with Windows 7 or do I need to change a setting somewhere?

Answer:Satellite L500 - Nothing happens if I eject an USB device

I have founded a similar thread and you should follow these instructions:

In your case I would also try to update the BIOS and load the default settings there.

I have been searching a lot for drivers, but I cannot find driver for: ACPI\TOS1900\2&DABA3FF&2

I have Windows 7 and in Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers, the laptop has exclamation mark. Another problem I have is that the function button F8 does not work.

Please help me to find solutions.

Answer:Satellite L500-1XZ - Cannot find all drivers

I have a little bit searched using Google and this could be the card reader of your notebook. All drivers you can download here: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Function button F8 means that key combination of FN+F8 doesn?t work, right? Well, for all FN keys you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash cards Support Utility. Both tools can be downloaded on Toshiba page too.

Check this!!!

I'm new to this forum but not new to using Toshiba products.
Anyway, about a couple of weeks ago I started having problems with
my USB ports in the sense that they all started to die one by one: first
the upper right, then the lower to be followed shortly by the Sata/USB combo
port on the left(kept my mouse adapter there).

I have not used anything other than the regular on my USB ports, you know memory
sticks, external HDD(I used a Toshiba StoreArt 1TB), my mouse and pretty much it.
Naturally I started looking for a solution to my problem and tried everything, except
for a BIOS update.

I don't know what else to do, so I hope smbd having dealt with the same problem
can help me restore my USB ports functionality.

I'll post some screenshots:

Answer:Unknown device under USB on my Satellite L500-1XZ notebook

Hello and welcome to Toshiba support forum.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there and give you exact diagnostic. In my opinion BIOS update is, at the moment, not necessary.
I don?t know if you have installed some additions software for usage with some external device but what you can try now is to reinstall chipset driver.

I have checked Toshiba download page and your notebook is supported for Win7 32 and 64bit so you can find it there. I wanted to post link here but I don?t know which version do you use.

Please do it at first and post some feedback.

I have a new Satellite L500.
I have installed XP and i don't find display drivers.
Display is an ati mobility radeon hd 4500.

I only found drivers for vista.
Did someone find that xp drivers?

Answer:Satellite L500 with XP - Where to find display driver

You are right. The Toshiba European driver page does not provide any Win XP drivers for this notebook yet.

But I think you should not worry? many notebooks are equipped with the same GPU chip.
I recommend checking the previous Toshiba notebooks series and trying to install such driver.

In worst case you will have to google a little bit for a Win XP ATI mobility Radeon HD 4500 driver.

If you will find such driver then you could install it in device manger using the Advanced installation procedure. This will help you to point to the driver files which you have downloaded and stored on the HDD. This installation works nearly everytime?

So i need to downgrade to XP PRO but i cant find XP drivers for this notebook.

Answer:Satellite L500 PSLJ3E - Where to find XP drivers?

The Win XP drivers for this notebook model are not released.
It?s a new model on the market and only vista drivers are available.

But of course you could install the Windows XP.
Many Toshiba notebooks are equipped with the same devices? therefore another Win XO drivers should run in different notebook models?

You will have to collect the drivers at your own hand? this is not comfortable but I?m sure you could use the notebook with Win XP

I have a problem with battery driver. I'm using Microsoft Windows XP professional. Manager of devices shows battery 2x (unknow devices!). Anybody have the same problem?

I'm waiting for answers. I am greeting everyone. Sorry for my English

Answer:Satellite L500-1GE - Battery unknown in device manager

There is no battery driver that you mean. It?s a part of Windows and you don?t have to change anything on it.

So please check the device manager again. What devices you mean exactly? Have you already checked the device and vendor ID?

Maybe you should try to remove both entries and restart the notebook. After this the drivers should be installed automatically.

How can I get it back ?

Answer:Satellite L500-19X - Webcam listed as unknown USB device

Are you plugging in any USB Devices?

High powered devices such as 3G Modems can draw excessive power from notebooks and cause USB devices/ports to shut off for safety.

I have found and installed all drivers I need for this laptop using Windows XP. My problem is that I can only activate Wireless on this laptop by pushin FN+F8 key, I have installed the Realtek Wireless drivers and they are installed fine, but I can't get Wireless to work because of the FN keys. When I push the FN+F8 key, a blue led should turn on next to the volume controller, but it doesn't...

I've searched for the Hotkey Utility in the Toshiba India site, I downloaded and tryed it but I get the error "This software utility does not support this system", the Common Modules gives me the same error too.

I've tryed installing other Hotkey Utility driver for another laptop, and it doesn't give me that error, but it doesn't work either... I actually leaves my laptop freezing a second, every 5 seconds... and the FN keys still don't work.

Anyone know where I can find a working Hotkey Utility for my laptop using XP?

Or maybe is there a way to activate Wireless without the FN keys? I don't need the other keys... I just want a way to activate Wireless.

Thanks for your time

Answer:Satellite L500 - Can't find drivers for FN keys for Windows XP!

That?s very strange buddy because the point is that XP is the past and newer notebooks doesn?t support this OS.

What you can do is to download the utilities for another Satellite L notebook, e. g. Satellite L300. This supports Windows XP and maybe the tools from that notebook are working on yours.
Check this!!

In worst case you have to live with this issue or you upgrade to Windows Vista. That?s all what you can do.

I have an L500-113.

I am the Program Controller for an Internet radio station, and want to record audio streamed from our website. Regardless of the recording software, I can only record from the built in MIC, even though the stream is playing happily on my computer. No other recording devices are shown in Device Manager. Surely I can record from the built in Realtek soundcard?? I have installed the latest Realtek drivers/manager from Toshiba.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500-113 - How to record audio from website?

basiclly, you mic is the only real recording hardware.
however, on a programming level, i think it should be pretty easy for you to record all audio running on the specific jack on the sound card. Just make a class that reads, selects and records on the jack you wish to record from.

thinking back over a couple of year, adobe audition used to be able to record from all audio jacks, maybe download the trial and see if it does the trick for you.

I cannot get the sound out of the HDMI port of my Satellite L500-131 to my Pioneer amplifier supposed to be designed to manage such tings...

Think the problem lies in the very first steps as I *can't* select the "Realtek HDMI output" as +default+ output, the option is unavailable.
Playing around I managed to switch to an older Micosoft driver hidden in the memory somewhere, and then could select HDMI output as "default" over the laptop speakers. But ultimately this ddn't get me sound through either, though volume control in "sound panel" of Vista indicates signal activity (bars while DVD playing)... :|

Any clue what's wrong ? Selecting "HDMI output" as default sound output seems to be a solver for everyone but it is the one option that is not left to me, so frustrating... :|

Thank you very much for any help provided.

Answer:Satellite L500-131, HDMI output to audio amplifier

To be honest I often use HDMI connection on my notebook but I never had any problems with this connection. Everything is working properly and even I have checked it again ? All is working fine!

Anyway, in your case I would try to reinstall the sound driver. You can find it on the Toshiba website.

If you use the HDMI connection, connect the cable firstly. Then power on your TV and/or audio amplifier and at last the notebook.

Hi all,

I bought a L500 a few weeks ago (Windows 7 64bit). Everything goes fine except for the sound. 1h or so after turning on the computer, the speakers start to produce a "crackling", "metallic" noise when audio is being reproduced, irrespective of the source (CDs, system sounds, movies, mp3 files...). It's just like there were hundreds of "micro-interruptions". The same with earphones. This seems also to affect any multimedia files, e.g. videos 10 min length take 12 min or so to play due to these micro-interruptions. The sound goes worse with the time and gets normal once the system is restarted, but some minutes later the noise comes again.

I've all the last Toshiba driver updates, including BIOS, LAN and sound cards, etc.

What can I do? Any clue will be welcome.

Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Re: Satellite L500 - Crackling noise when audio is being reproduced

first thing i would try is to replace the driver from toshiba with the Microsoft driver, I personally dont use any of toshiba's drivers due to branding i dislike, however this to one side I run Windows 7 64 Home Prem, the sound cards (typically realtek) all have Microsoft drivers available, they work with no problem for me.

If its deferntly not a driver issue and you have the same problem with headphones as well as the laptops speakers then its a problem with the soundcard itsself.

Is your laptop still under warranty? hopfully if its hardware its still under warranty. Give toshiba a call, they should pick the laptop up and get it repaired for you solong as you did not get it from somwere like P.C World, AOL etc, if you got it from one of them stores then you need phone or take it to the tekguys.

If you need a step-by-step for using microsofts drivers just reply saying so and i;ll sort that for you :)

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-01u012 and i am having issues with the audio output.

This is really annoying me and I'm wondering if there is a way around this?

Generally speaking by default internal speakers should be off when you connect headphones.

Check the settings in control panel -> Realtek HD audio Manager
There is tab called Speakers.

One option is called ?Device advanced settings?.

There you should try different option like:
- Tie up same type of input jacks
- Separate all input jacks as independent input devices.

Having followed instructions to connect laptop to TV via HDMI there is no signal. Followed instructions in User Manual but
User Manual says go to Adjust Resolution/Advanced/GenericPnPMonitor/Graphics Properties/Display Properties then click 'Multiple Display' but there is only one drop down option 'Single Display' and 1 primary device the notebook.

When I toggle FN F5 to change display it only shows LCD display.

Is this something simple I'm missing or does this suggest a fault with the Toshiba Display Driver?

Answer:Satellite L500: unable to change to Multiple Display to play via TV

For I using the HDMI connection I can recommend this:
Firstly connect the cable to your notebook and TV or external monitor. Then power on the TV and choose the right input channel. Finally power on the notebook and normally the HDMI connection will be recognized automatically.

If it doesn?t work I would recommend updating the display driver and BIOS. Both can be founded on the Toshiba website.

All of a sudden my speakers decide not to work!! I checked the volume etc and alll was fine but when I went in control panel>sounds and audio devices it says I don't have an audio device!!!

It worked fine this morning and I havn't done anything that could have done this.
These problems I'm having are all spontaneous, I don't know what's going on!

Does anyone know how I can fix this and does anyone suspect virus activity? (I have done a scan which said I don't have any)

I use a P30-145
Many thanks

Answer:Satellite P30-145: Don't have an audio device in 'Sounds and Audio devices'

Did you check the device manager?? Is the sound card listed properly in the device manager or some yellow exclamation marks appear?

Did you try to reinstall the sound driver? If not, please try it.
Of course I would also recommend to update the anti virus applications and to scan the system for virus and malware

Hello!I'm new here so I don't know the appropriate place to post this. Thus I have to post it over here. You see I have installed Windows XP recently and I tried to install drivers for VGA and such.Unfortunately,I couldn't fully install the driver for my Audio Device as it "Can't Find HD Audio Device" whereas my speakers are jacked in and it receives power too.A pop up says it failed to install new hardware.I have been through this process hundreds of ties and this never happened before changing my mainboard from American Megatrends to Redfox. Now what should I do?
Hardware wizard searches for hd audio devices but without avail. So what should I do? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I hope someone can help please. I got my XPS 15 service tag 64CSYW1 in March 2013.
Unfortunately, not long after it arrived I became ill and didn't really use it, preferring my desk top instead. I did use it only very occasionally until the start of this year when I had a project I needed to use it for. The computer had several updates to catch up on and after updating started to become less stable until it stopped really working at all. It didn't get by POST most of the time.
After contacting Dell I paid over £200 (as it was out of warranty) to have the on-line engineer chats, which did not remedy the issues, and to have it picked up and a cable replaced. This was in March. By the middle of June the computer was in the showing the same signs as before (not getting past POST). This time Dell uplifted it and replaced the hard-drive free of charge.
The computer seemed to be fine after upgrading to Windows 10 but I had no Bluetooth, so one of the Dell technicians sent me a link to get all the drivers and updates to solve my issue. I downloaded and installed all the updates and drivers via the link. After downloading and installing the recommended Dell BIOS update my computer returned to the same state as before.
After contacting Dell about this they have stated the problem is that I now need a new motherboard for £600. My computer cost £1,107.50 and I have already spent over £200 trying to remedy the situation and I ... Read more

Hi AllFirstly - apologies in advance for this new topic - there are already several very similar on this board (and many others all over the web)  I have spent the past 2 days following all sorts of advice, but nothing seems to have worked. I have done my best to RTFM I promise, but I'm now - officially - at my wit's end.I installed what I thought was a nifty little gadget, NCH Soundtap, which would allow me to record audio streams.  Stupid, stupid, stupid. Instead it hijacked my soundcard and stopped any other software from being able to use it. My laptop now believes I have no sound device. Needless to say, I have since uninstalled the software and I just want my sound back!I now get all the symptoms described by many other people on this board - no audio, yellow exclamation mark icons beside all of the sound devices in control panel, a code 39 error whenever I try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers etc etc.(Notably, whenever I try to install the drivers it always has trouble locating the dlls, ksuser and ks.sys, although I am able to locate them on my system and point the installer in the right direction)I have tried installing the kb888111 patch as recommended.I have run Everest, which lists under multimedia: Intel 82801GBM ICH7-M - High Definition Audio Controller.  (is this the same as Realtek?)The motherboard chipset is listed as:  Intel Calistoga i945GM/PMMy Laptop is an old-ish Acer Aspire 5680, running Windows XP  (the original... Have tried uninstall and re-install driver and add hardware (Media Audio Controller) again but system can now not find the device (cannot install this hardware).

Do you have any recommendation on how to fix.

Answer:Tecra A2 - Lost audio and can't find the device

Have you tried reinstalling the sound driver with the Toshiba one or another driver?

Furthermore it would be interesting to know which OS you have.
There are yellow exclamation marks in device manager now?

Maybe you should try to update the BIOS too. If it doesn?t work it seems to be time for reinstalling Windows. Maybe something has muddled up the system or registry.

Windows 7 64-bit I'm using an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor My audio is working, but I'm getting "popping" noises every 15-30 seconds and it's really bothering me. I updated to the latest driver for Realtek AC'97 and I insalled the Realtek HD Audio drivers, but only the AC'97 shows up in the device manager. When I got to add/remove programs, it shows that HD Audio can be uninstalled, but I don't know if that means it's working. From reading around on the internet, some people said the HD Audio driver solved their problem, but I'm not sure if mine is actually working or not. I don't know much about computers, so please spell things out explicitly for me so I can just follow directions.

Hi I'm running windows vista home premium.

my problem is that A.) I seem to get the feeling my computer isn't recognizing my audio card (maybe im paranoid) but when i goto device manager and i goto audio all i see is the sigma tel CODEC. I dont see like a sound card or anything.

. When i try to record with Audacity, i cant because even though i've got something plugged into either the mic, rear mic, or line it, it wont find it. Now, i've looked in my audio settings and when i plug into one of those spots the computer says its working and enabled.
I've also noticed that in my audio settings it doesnt find any sound cards, just the sigma tel codec, is that supposed to happen?
Based on what my Dell packing slip says, I've got Creative Sound Blaster HD Audio, wouldnt that be a sound card, not just a CODEC?

I dont really understand what a CODEC is anyway.

If anyone can help me out here that would be really appreciated.

Suffice to say I have NO idea how this could have happened since I am NO expert so I was hoping maybe someone could help me out. I don't believe I have any viruses to speak of and I don't normally go around deleting stuff from my comp other than cookies so I'm at a loss.

When I view the volume settings, it says "No Audio Device", and when I view the "Device Manager", under "Sound, Video And Game Controllers" it reads as follows:

Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Standard Game Port
Video Codecs

When I go to 'Run' and type in "DXDIAG", and clicked on the Sound Tab at the top.. it read 'No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.'

How do I find out which sound drivers to install? I have already tried Realtek AC97 Audio and when it installed.. it finished halfway and a message popped up and said "Uninstalling audio drivers".

I removed and re-installed Realtek AC'97 Sound Drivers. Well, it refuses to install the "driver" file actualy, that's the main problem here.

My PC is really messed up, I deleted a bunch on notepads because it was taking up my hard drive and I needed to install a game. But that didn't work out great :| Now my computer is missing Search Companion, System Restore, and Regedit ! HELP! How do I get those back?

PC shows no audio device in system tray, Device Manager shows two devices with yellow explanation marks - Code 52 error. Driver details shows default Microsoft drivers in use. Various driver installs attempted. Machine updated from Vista.

"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

Hardware IDs

one will be the mobo sound, the other the HDMI sound output (onboard graphics / HDMI capability)

Have tried the F8 boot option to ignore certificate signing, was no help.

Answer:No Audio device - Code 52 - can't find a driver that works 64bit

The default basic function Microsoft HD Audio Codec should only be used if nothing else is available. The PC vendor's audio driver is the preferred as non vendor drivers in many cases either do not work or do not work correctly.

The code 52, along with the digital signing, could also be malware on the PC according to what I see doing a google search.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the sound device and then LEFT click "Uninstall". Also check the box to uninstall drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts try to install the correct vendor sound driver.

I have speakers and a headset set up and previously i was able to switch between which device the audio played out with no problem. However, when i click set default audio device nothing happens. The button is still bold and when i test the device sound still comes out. I have reinstalled their respective drivers. I have reinstalled my sound card drivers.

Answer:Unable to change default audio playback device

What model PC?

But, generally if you have the speakers set as default playback device and the plug in a headset it will automatically switch to the headset, unplug the headset and it will revert to the speakers.

For the front panel headset/mic jack, is the cable that's connected to the motherboard labeled "HD Audio"? or is it the older "AC97". Some sound system control panels have a setup for whichever you have (the HD Audio is the preferred connector).

Hi All,

Seems ive become a frequenter on this forum and ive only had win10 for about 2 weeks!

My laptop does not want to recognise the sound card/audio driver that are built into it. The fun part is this just happened. Audio played yesterday, and the time before that, and even before the upgrade. The only thing that has changed (or at least is the biggest change i can think of) is downloading and installing Cygwin (sans audio packages).

In trying to play a song on the new microsoft Groove, i get this;
Further inspection in the playback devices, the only two options are the Speakers/Headphones and communications Headphones, the former of which i can only assume is my actual computer speakers (otherwise its completely gone!).

Looking at the device manager, everything seems okay. All the drivers are up to date so im not sure what could be wrong there?

Just for everyones information, its Windows 10 pro (upgraded from Win7 Pro) and the computer is a Dell Precision M4600. Any more important information about the computer just ask, naturally as im asking for help, im all ears and very cooperative! (p.s. im pretty sure the audio driver is in the device manager image)

Thank you all!

EDIT: Its probably worth mentioning that when headphones are plugged in, sound plays all good.

Answer:Failed to find Audio Device - Win10 doesnt recognise my soundcard?

So no one seemed to be interested in this post. However after having a good dig around, it appears restoring the defaults on the audio device fixed the problem. Still, this seems to be more of a blackbox solution in that I still don't know what caused it to prevent it in future, but oh well. A solution is still a solution.

I use Vista Business 32 on my Toshiba Satellite Pro A300.

I recently connected my parallel port adapter to my laptop and at the device manager, I got an device conflict error that said, 'This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12).

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.'

Can anyone please help me with sorting out this problem?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300: code 12- This device cannot find enough resources

This is a typical error if two devices have been assigned the same input/output (I/O) ports, the same interrupt, or the same Direct Memory Access channel.
This error message can also appear if the BIOS did not allocate enough resources to the device.

If seems that the needed resources are already used by another device and therefore there is a conflict with the parallel port adapter which you have installed manually.

I think you can only solve this checking the other devices which uses the same resources and then disabling this in device manager.

Hello I'm trying to get the audio working on an R400 (2787-A36), Windows XP SP3. I tried installing the driver from here:, but it fails giving me a "Could not find Media Device for this Driver" error. Most of the suggestions I came across involved installing the UAA (888111) hotfix from Microsoft. However, it doesn't install saying the Service Pack version is newer than the one I'm trying to install. Can someone help me out here? Let me know if you need any more details. Thanks a lot for your help!

I have an error message on my Display Adaper stating the following,

"The device cannot find enough free resoursces that it can use (code12).
If you want to this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on the system."

It is a Satellite L300-19Y with Mobile intel 4 series Graphics card. I have updated to the latest driver.

The screen is very fuzzy at present.

Please help with a solution if possible.

Answer:Satellite L300-19Y: GPU issue - device cannot find enough free resoursces

I found your other thread:

You tried to install a ATI driver on this notebook.
I have no idea if this would affect the OS functionality but it seems that you get a error message while installing the Intel driver? so maybe you have muddled up the OS installing some wrong drivers?

Did you use the driver from Toshiba driver page?
If not do that!

You should firstly uninstall the driver in device manager and then should reboot the notebook.
After new reboot you should check if you could install the driver once again

I purchased a 2nd hand Satellite L20 which was upgraded from xp to win7 on the task bar says no audio output device is installed.
Tried update driver in device manager -- no good
Downloaded Realtek AC97 driver -- no good.

It will play sound from dvd through usb sound device to head phones.
But how the hell do i get the sound to work on internal speaker.

Answer:Satellite L20 - no audio output device using Win7

> It will play sound from dvd through usb sound device to head phones.
> But how the hell do i get the sound to work on internal speaker.
This means that the sound driver was installed properly and that the sound card is working. Just the speakers don?t work. Right?

But to be sure, check the device manager and check if there is a yellow ? near the sound card. If there is no ? then this would mean that the driver is OK.

You bought this notebook as second hand unit; are you sure that speakers are not faulty?

I just bought Toshiba Satellite A300-1MO and I have downgrade it to XP.
After I have installed the drivers (including the sound driver), I keep on getting error msg. on the device manger.
It tells me I have something wrong with my audio, Although that I have audio.
I also have an "unknown device" under my device manger which I don?t know what I need to install in order to remove it.

If someone knows this, I have tried everything, I even reinstall windows Xp but, nothing it keeps on asking me to install the audio device.

Answer:Cannot install audio device on Satellite A300-1MO

Try installing the XP HD-Audio hotfixes:

The unknown device could be the modem attached to the sound card.

The notebook came with Vista which didn't work properly at all, it was extremely slow so I wanted to go for either Windows XP or some Linux distribution. I tried a Windows XP SP2 CD first but it didn't work because it couldn't detect any hard disks. Then I used a Windows XP SP3 ISO and added the Intel SATA controller drivers to it and burned it. It actually worked and the operating system runs fine and much faster now. But I have a problem with the sound. I installed the chip set utility and the audio drivers from (, for this model but it still fails to detect it and there two items with a question mark listed in device manager:

PCI Device
Unknown Device

I have installed the WLAN drivers etc, I'm not quite sure what the "unknown device" could be, I suppose the PCI one is that Realtek sound card.

Would somebody please help me out?

Over the last week or so I've been having trouble with my audio.
The first incident occurred whilst I was browsing the internet, all of a sudden some error popped up and turned off my sound. When I checked for audio devices it said there where none installed and when I checked the device manager there were also none installed. I then uninstalled the driver/software from my computer and reinstalled them, but still the drivers were not recognized. Instead there was only a HDMI Output driver which would say it was playing sound, but none was coming out of my speakers.

Then I had just given up hope, and was playing a video (without sound) when all of a sudden sound began playing out of the speakers and all the sound drivers were recognized.

Then the same incident as the first happened again, and now I still can't fix it.

Also errors keep coming up saying 'Soundchanger.exe" is not working.
Any help would be great! I have uninstalled and reinstalled all the correct drivers and still used system restore but still the sound won't work.

Answer:Satellite A300 - No Audio Device Installed

Are you able to backup your data and run Recovery?

The OS may be corrupted, or a 3rd party driver may be causing the problem.

If it still happens with a fresh Windows installation, then it could be a hardware problem.

Hi there,

I installed windows xp pro on my satellite l300 and now I'm looking for the drivers to get all devices running.

Unfortunately, i cannot find any drivers for a "PCI Device" that is, I suppose, the audio device. I also cannot find any informations about the manufacturer of this device.

So can anybody please tell me where I can find these device drivers?

Answer:Need XP audio drivers for Satellite L300 (PCI-Device)

The L300 is a new series on the market. I have checked the Toshiba European driver page and it looks like the XP drivers are not released at this time?

What to say buddy?. I think you have to wait till Toshiba release all XP drivers for this L300 series?

By the way; As far as I know some L300 series are equipped with the Realtek sound chip.

If the sound doesn?t work on under Win XP then you could install the sound driver from Realtek website.

Best regards

I've bought "line6 toneport ux2" and it doesn't work proper with my laptop (dual core 1,73GHz, 1GB ram, Windows Vista).

The problem is when I'm listening music through this device it sounds like I'd listening scratched CD, from time to time there is a short interruption. The same thing is happening when I'm using Gearbox (software which let you play electric guitar using audio device). I checked everything, including change OS for Windows XP.

I've got the newest drivers for tone port (vista ready), I downloaded Gerbox 3.5, only toneport is connected to my computer, I turned off every flashing facilities in vista, power plan is set for high performance. I've turn off the sound card. I've checked my laptop with line6 monkey and it says that everything is ok. I checked the audio device on my friend's desktop and it works ok.

I desperately need help.

Answer:Satellite A100 and USB audio device problem

Hello Marcin

In my opinion you must be sure that your notebook run well and according to your posting I do not see there any problem.

So in your case you have problem using some additional hardware or third part software. Am I right? If there is some problem I do not see any reason to search solution with Toshiba. You should contact manufacturers from all devices and software you use. They should have enough experience with own products and they should offer good support in troubleshooting.

Hi, I would appreciate some assistance with my Vista 32 bit installation onto my Satellite Pro L20 series.

Installation went smoothly but my sounds icon has a cross with it and when I place mouse over it I see the message: no audio output device installed. I have gone into device manager with full privilagesand see that there is an exclamation mark next multmedia audio controller. I have looked at the general properties and it states: 'This device is not configured properly (code 1)'. I have uninstalled the driver and downloaded Realtek AC-97 ref: 6285_Vista_APO_PG536 driver and installed and rebooted but I still get the same error messages!

Can anyone help me out? I have tried uninstallation and reinstalling so many times now I don't know where to go next!

Answer:Satellite Pro L20 - No audio output device installed

I have checked the Toshiba website for Satellite Pro L20. There I can?t find a Vista 32bit sound driver but there are all XP drivers available and the sound driver is not from Realtek, it?s from Conexant.
So I assume your notebook is not equipped with a Conexant sound card.

I think you should try to use a Conexant driver from another Toshiba notebook because on the Conexant website I can?t find a driver.

As far as I know the Satellite A300 and A300D for example are also using a Conexant sound card but I don?t know if the driver also works on your notebook.
But it?s worth a try! ;)

Does anybody know where I can get 64 bit audio drivers for my P100? The toshiba downloads section doesn't seem to provide any 64 bit drivers whatsoever.

Answer:Where to find 64 bit audio drivers for Satellite P100?

I don?t think that toshiba will release 64bit drivers for their machines since they didn?t release a machine with a 64-bit windows.

But if you know which soundcard is installed (e.g a realtek) then go to the manufacturer site of the audiodevice and try it there, perhaps you have some luck.
I would do so :)

very graitful in advance

Answer:Satellite A200-1CO - Where to find audio driver?

I don?t know for what operating system you need an audio driver but all drivers you can find here: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

As far as I know it belongs to PSAE0E series, so you must search for Satellite A200 PSAE0E downloads.

1. I'd downgraged Vista to XP.
Does anybody know where can I find audio driver for this model?
tThere is no driver package for this sub-modell (135)

2. What is with BIOS upgrade for PSL43E compatybile with XP installation

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro L40-135 (PSL43E) Where to find the XP audio driver

It looks like the XP drivers for the Pro L40 PSL43E series don?t exists on the Toshiba page at this time. I found only the BIOS!
So what to do?:|

Either you will wait till the drivers will be released in the next time or you will try some drivers from the 3rr websites? for example Intel page.

The onboard sound card should support the Intel High Definition Audio (Azalia) ADI AD1986A chip.
Maybe this could help a little bit.

Regarding the BIOS; Well, the BIOS 5.10Win was released on the Toshiba page and it?s a XP BIOS version. This BIOS is needed if you want to use the MS XP OS on this Vista notebook?.
