Satellite L500-1C7 battery problem

Question: Satellite L500-1C7 battery problem

Hello everyone,

I recently bought myself a new notebook, the Satellite L500-1C7. It's running fine except for one question that I have: I am aware of the fact, that the battery lasts for only about 2-2,5 hours. But is it normal for the computer to shut down when the battery sign is showing 22% (happens after about 2,25 hours)? Then, after I put the power cable in, the battery sign suddenly shows 5%.
Is this usual or is something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500-1C7 battery problem

At first I must say that 2,5 hours working time on battery power supply is really great and the same is with my Satellite A300.

To be honest the whole story is a little bit strange for me. Usually before notebook switches off you should hear and see battery alarm when the critical power level is reached.
Please try to change these settings in advanced power settings and watch what happen exactly. set it to 10 or 15% and change also settings what should happen when critical level is reached (standby/hibernation/switching OFF).

If the critical level is 5% I cannot imagine notebook switches off at 22% without this battery alarm message.
How do you know it happens on 22% when notebook suddenly switches off?

Dear support,
I have a problem with my battery, and searched some support online.
(it says "recommended to change the battery")

My problem is that i cannot ask for support online since TOSHIBA says that my pc type doesn't exist!
Sounds odd to me.

Toshiba Satellite L500-1W5 This is what's written below my pc.
Also the serial number doesn't exist...3A467845K

Could you please show me how to do?

Shall i follow the recommendation and use it without battery?

Answer:Re: Battery issue on my Satellite L500-1W5

Of course it exists. You can check it following http://www.toshiba-tro.de/unitdetails
Just put serial number there and you will find info about it.

Can you please tell us which kind of problem do you have and which support have you contacted?
Have you contacted official Toshiba service provider in your country or some independent IT store?

Battery exchange is not big deal. When you remove the battery you can find part number on the sticker. Use this part number for order and problem is solved.

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me. I have a L500 and all of a sudden my battery will not charge. As soon as I unplug the laptop from the power it shuts off. I have also tried another battery (although not a brand new one) and that battery will not charge also. The battery is currently on 8% and wont charge further, but also will not stay on when unplugged. Has anyone else had this problem, or know what I can try?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L500 - Battery will not charge

Hi buddy,

Can you charge the battery when you turn off the notebook?
Do you use the original Toshiba AC/DC adapter?

For me it sounds like a hardware malfunction? I mean if you have already tried another battery with the same result it seems that something is wrong with charging control on mainboard. This would mean the mainboard or another hardware parts needs replacing. This can be done from an authorized service provider.

Hi

First I want to say sorry for my English and I hope you will understand me.
From a while when I plug my charger the first led is turning on and is green , the third led is dark orange (that's mean is charging) after 5 minutes sometimes 1 hour , 2 hour ,1 day the third led start to clipping and becomes bright orange , that mean is not charge. If I remove and reconnect charger few times is starting to charge.

Any ideas?

My laptop is Satellite L500 (PSLJ3E).

Answer:Satellite L500 do not charge the battery

Hi

Maybe its battery fault.
Did you try new battery?

Without checking this, it?s really difficult to say if your battery or other part can be faulty.

I have a Satellite L500-13W. This was purchased in Portugal so is not listed on UK site.

I have a problem with the battery. It will not charge although it will run when plugged into the mains. I read on another blog that a BIOS update cured the problem on another model. I have found an update on the Portuguese site but I do not understand the language, specially where my laptop is concerned.

I was wondering if anybody knew of this problem and cure and also could suggest how I would go about updating the correct BIOS

Answer:Satellite L500 - Battery not charging

Hi

First of all you can download all drivers on the Toshiba European driver download page where everything is written in English:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

There you can also search for your model, as far as I know Satellite L500-13W belongs to the PSLJ3E.

More info about BIOS update: This update is a little bit tricky because it could destroy your ROM module so before you make the update, close all running programs also your antivirus and firewall, disconnect from Internet and make sure that you are logged in as administrator. Do not shut down the notebook during this procedure.

If the BIOS update doesn?t work it seems to be a hardware malfunction. Maybe your battery must be replaced?

Hi i just got my laptop. I've been using it for about a week now and the battery says its at about 20-22 percent and then dies once it get below that. Its not just sleep or hibernate, it dies. I want to know why I cant use 1 5th of my battery.

I've searched the forums a bit and tried changing the battery settings in the power modes.

Any help?

Answer:Satellite L500-1XJ - Dies if battery goes below 20%

Hi,

It can be a battery malfunction or something like this, your laptop is pretty new. So, contact the ASP (service center) or dealer to check or replace. They will do it for free.

Hi there,

I've been having an issue over the last week - my laptop (Satellite L500) runs fine on AC power, but the icon shows "plugged in, not charging" and the battery charge is at 0%. Thus if I pull the cable out it turns off immediately. The battery charging LED at the front is not lighting up either.

Laptop is just over two years old but running well, all original Toshiba hardware (i.e. battery and charger). I had found recently that battery life was not what it was when lappy was new, but it'd last at least 45 minutes or so, so I knew the battery was on the way out but find it hard to believe it's just failed when two weeks ago could charge and run OK?

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Rebecca

Answer:Satellite L500 - battery is not charging

> so I knew the battery was on the way out but find it hard to believe it's just failed when two weeks ago could charge and run OK?

I think nothing is impossible?this means that battery could be faulty.
Of course this is my personal opinion but I see only two options: either its battery problem or motherboard problem.

Therefore if I would be you, I would check if the problem would persist using an new, tested battery.

By the way: you can also check this short workaround:
- disconenct the ac adptor and battery
- press power button (30-40sec long)
- connect battery and AC adaptor and power up the unit
- now check if battery could be charged.

My new and virtually unsused laptop is discharging its battery at the rate of 10% in 48 hours when switched off and not in hibernation mode. When removing the battery it is loosing 2% in 48 hours.

I have fully charged the battery to 100% and shut down whilst still on charge.

There is no doubt in my mind that the battery is discharging when fitted, and only loosing a small amount of charge when removed from the laptop.

Have any other users experienced the same problem. Result is that in one week the battery will discharge some 35%, which I find unacceptable.

Answer:Satellite L500 19X Battery discharging when not in use

Hi

I think this is nothing wrong buddy
The battery will always s discharge a little bit even though the notebook is not running.

Take a look into the user manual.
I did it and found this:

When you turn off your computer with fully charged batteries, the batteries retain data for the following approximate time periods;

Battery pack 12 cell; 2 days (sleep mode); 20 days (Shut down mode)
Battery pack 6 cell; 1 day (sleep mode); 10 days (shut down mode)
Battery pack 3 cell; 0,5 days (sleep mode); 5 days (shut down mode)

You must always check following software/ bios settings in order to decreased the battery discharging:
- standby/ resume mode, hibernation etc. will reduce the time until the battery is empty dramatically
- always check wether Wake On Lan or Wake on HDMI is enabled
- always check wether USB sleep and charge is enabled

I really thought the problem had been solved with VAP but no..
Any way thanks to PauPau and Tonny for your answers but if someone has this problem please tell me.

Or better, other solutions?
PS: I had the problem on Vista and it still occurs on Seven (Toshiba upgrade). Freezes only on battery (after 30 min in average).

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite L500-13Z freezes on battery only even with VAP

If you start new thread about freezing issue maybe you should explain what happen exactly.
Freezing can happen because of many different reasons. To be honest I cannot imagine this happen with ?factory settings? and from the first day.

I presume you have installed much additional software and maybe some of them make problems.
Can you test it with clean preinstalled Vista?

I have just brought a Satellite L500/20 notebook. Can anyone tell me what to expect from the battery?

I turn on the laptop and the battery will be 100% fully charged. Basically, as soon as the laptop is turned on it seems to drain the battery at a rate of 1% every 1 minute. Is this normal? At this rate my battery is dead within 1 and a half hours. I dont watch videos, play music, or download huge files.

I use it mostly just for emails, should the battery drain this quickly?

Answer:Satellite L500 - What to expect from the battery?

Hi

I think everything is depending on the battery type (e. g. 9 cell) and what you do with the notebook. For example I have Satellite L300 with Windows XP and I can work 2 hours on battery maximal and that means only surfing in the Internet without watching videos and on lowest display brightness.

Depending on the battery but I think 1 hour and 30 minutes are ok on Vista or Windows 7 if you have a higher screen brightness.

By the way: On the Toshiba website I found some interesting battery tips:

Hi,
I have just received a new battery for my laptop, and have tried to charge it but to no avail. When I plug it in, it recognizes that it has been charging, but then forgets its charging, or even plugged in.

i must let this be known, the new battery is not OEM so that could be the problem, I?ll try it in my mother's Toshiba, then report back.

Answer:Satellite L500-1DT - New battery can't be charged

Hello

> the new battery is not OEM so that could be the problem
Yes this could be the problem if it?s a 3rd party battery. Only original Toshiba spare parts are pretested and designed for Toshiba notebooks.

In your case I would contact an authorized service provider and ask for a new and original Toshiba battery. The guys can order all original Toshiba spare parts.

HI,

after upgrating my laptop to Win 8 the battery stops charging...
the message says..."pluged but not charging"....

Any suggestion........exept to reinstall win7...??

Answer:Satellite L500-14X - Battery does not charge after upgrade to Win 8

Hi

Usually there is no big difference between the Win 7 and Win 8 so I really don?t understand why this battery issue should be related to Win 8.
In my opinion its not Win 8 problem and I think even if you would install Win 7, this issue would not be solved?

Try this:
Disconnect the AC adaptor and remove the battery
Now leave the notebook disconnected for a longer period of time (10 hours)
Then press and hold power button 30 sec long and then connect both parts.
The Ac adaptor should be connected for a longer period of time to allow the system to pre-charge the Battery

Hi there,

I really hope someone can help me.

During the first time I started my new Toshiba Satellite L500-1ZR the battery died and my laptop switched off. I was halfway through the setup and now when I start it, it gives a warning saying: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click OK to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." Though when I click OK it restarts and I end up at the exact same warning. I have tried F2 and F12 to see if there were options to do a startup repair and also I inserted a disc on which I downloaded a hardware setup, but it won't work.

Anyone got some ideas on how to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L500-1ZR - Battery died during first setup

Hi belisu,

The advanced boot menu you can access via F8 key before Windows starts.
Using F2 and F12 key you can access the BIOS and boot menu.

So try using F8 key to access the advanced boot menu of Windows and try to start Windows repair option. It starts HDD recovery from Toshiba and restore factory settings.

Good luck! :)

Hello!

I recently purchased a Satellite Pro L500 and have been having the following problems.
My laptop doesn't start on battery only. The green power light comes on and the stays on with the laptop in a freeze (nothing displayed on screen).
The only way to get this light off is to remove battery.

Starts EVERY time with the AC power connected (with or without battery) - normal lights are displayed when connected.
Works perfectly normal once booted - with or without AC power connected

SOMETIMES starts with the battery only if I boot soon after I have already been using the laptop
I have tried the static release processes but doesn't work. (holding down power button with no battery or power connected etc.)

After having this trouble I updated to latest BIOS but has not helped
Tried a different battery and has not helped
Is a Toshiba Satellite PRO L500 T4400 4GB 15" Win7 Laptop - only 3 weeks or so old

Very annoying!
Please someone with a solution??

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 doesn't start on battery only

Hi

Try this.
Remove battery, disconnect the AC adaptor and then wait some time. I would leave it disconnected for about 12 hours.
Then connect both parts again, charge the battery and then remove the AC adaptor.
Then try to power up the unit using only battery.

If this will not help then you should get in contact with your ASP as fast as possible since the warranty is valid and would cover all hardware checks and replacements.

And when I plug off AC laptop shuts down. I replaced the battery but the same action ? when plug out AC the computer shuts down. Run some antivirus programs ? no results. I installed a battery tester who told me that battery is not installed. Run SCF program ? not bad files.
Tried with power manager ? no results.

My battery works well on other similar laptop.
Pls help !!!

Answer:Battery is not recognized properly on Satellite L500

Hi

Remove the battery and start your notebook with AC power supply only. When the OS is loaded put the battery in place and check if the battery will be recognized.
If not I presume there is some problem with power supply electronic on mainboard and it should be checked by Toshiba service provider.

My new Ii've recieved it only today) notebook Satellite Pro L500 doesn't recognize battery. I cannot turn it on without AC. When AC is on, the LED of a battery is glowing orange for a 20-30 seconds, then LED turns off and Windows 7 says, that there's not battery.

I've read on this forum, that I can put my battery in, while the Windows is already going on and I've tryed that, it founds battery for a 20-30 seconds, and starts to charging, but than it's again doesn't see the battery. I've checked BIOS version, I've got 1.90. It is a latest, as can I understand, isn't it?

What can I do with it? Is it hardware trouble and I should post it in service or I can fix it somehow?

Answer:Satellite Pro L500-1T5 - Doesn't recognize battery

Hi Ponny,

What happens if you leave the AC/DC adaptor connected for 24 hours or over night and then you start the notebook without AC/DC adaptor? On first charging it takes a little bit longer until the battery is fully charged.

If this doesn?t work you should contact the shop where you purchased it or an authorized service provider. In this case you should get a new battery for free.

Hi,

1. It is stated on the L500-1kk product specifications that the expected battery time is around 3:20 Hrs using mobile mark! However, I have been using my laptop for almost a year now, the maximum battery time I get is 2:15 Hrs, every time I charge my laptop full, Battery Bar program always shows me this maximum time remaining! I am using default power settings!

2. Most Intriguing, is that my sister is using another laptop, its battery is approximately the same capacity as mine, around 43200 mWh, we are both using Windows 7 Ultimate (she 32bit, I, 64bit version), yet her battery time is at least 4.5 Hrs. Why is that, and how would I maximize my battery time!

3. Lastly, her laptop is new (4 months , yet battery pro program shows that her battery's wear rate is 7%, my laptop is almost a year and it shows a wear rate of 1.3%, I mostly use my laptop while the power is plugged, rarely unplugged!) Is their an explanation to the different wear rates?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L500-1KK - How to maximum the battery time?

Hello

To be honest I think a battery life about 2:15 hours is good and I think everything is ok with your notebook. On my new Satellite A500 I have also just 2.5 hours if I work on battery, sometimes just 2 hours or less. That?s always depending on the applications that you run.

> 2. Most Intriguing, is that my sister is using another laptop, its battery is approximately the same capacity as mine, around 43200 mWh, we are both using Windows 7 Ultimate (she 32bit, I, 64bit version), yet her battery time is at least 4.5 Hrs. Well, it?s the same as you compare two cars with the same hp from different manufactures? One car has a higher fuel consumption as the other car, even the have the same hp. Why? Well, different manufactures using different parts: Other tires, gearing, weight, air dray, etc.

You can compare two identical notebooks or cars from the same manufacture to find a issue but *not* from different manufactures. ;)

Hi,

I've found a number of threads with similar issues, but none of the solutions worked for me, so here it goes:
I have an L500-1GE, which is about 6 years old, but hasn't been used much.
Since yesterday, it won't charge when plugged in, and when I pull the plug, it immediately shuts down (everything goes black suddenly), although it shows the battery to have about 25% power.

I have just installed the newest bios (2.10) from Toshiba's official site, but I don't know if this has anything to do with the aforementioned issue.

Should I just buy a new battery, or is there something to try before that?
Thanks!

I think this is nothing unusual since the battery is removable and you will always notice an tiny movement.
I?m not owner of L500 so I cannot say if this would appear on other L500.
By my A200 battery move a little bit and the U400 battery does not move?

Greetings,

Since I have installed the sound card driver to my notebook, it always starts to beep when it reaches 10% battery in every 10 seconds. Its not a Windows voice, but i tried to search the sound controls and even the BIOS to turn this thing off. CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M330 @ 2.13GHz
Physical Memory: 4096MB RAM
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7600

What do you think about that ?

Answer:Satellite L500-1UU - Disconnect battery while it's connected to AC adapter

There is no problem removing the battery when on AC power. It should extend the life of the battery a little bit as long as the battery charge stays high (around 70%).

Answer:Satellite L500-1GE - Battery unknown in device manager

Hi

There is no battery driver that you mean. It?s a part of Windows and you don?t have to change anything on it.

So please check the device manager again. What devices you mean exactly? Have you already checked the device and vendor ID?

Maybe you should try to remove both entries and restart the notebook. After this the drivers should be installed automatically.

Hey all,

Got as Satellite L500 here (PSLS0A-084002). I'm having the battery not charging issue and everything I'm finding points to a BIOS update.

Sure enough there's a new BIOS to download from the laptops drivers page. So I have the WinPhlash file "sl500(mv)_bios_w210.exe". However running it causes it to fall over before flashing the BIOS with a Error Number: 144.

This is due to the battery being bellow 10% charge however I can't get it above 10% charge as the laptop won't recognise it.

There must be a way of getting WinPhlash to run without doing that check. I read you can run it with the "/forceit" switch and that will ignor the error however that was from a while back and it seems WinPhlash have changed that as it still spits out the error.

I read running it from DOS helps but after creating a dos boot cd it claims the exe can't be run from DOS (ffffuuuuuuuu!).

Any help appreciated. Thanks =).

Answer:Cannot flash BIOS on Satellite L500 due to low battery charge

Sounds like WinPhlash can't talk to the hardware directly due to a software problem.

Did you uninstall the Toshiba Value Added Package? Download and install the latest TVAP from www.mytoshiba.com.au -> Support -> Downloads

If it still doesn't work, then your Antivirus/firewall software may be blocking WinPhlash or you need to login to Windows as Administrator.

When powered on charging light flashes yellow.
Battery does not charge and if battery removed the laptop shuts down.

At time this problem does not happen.

Moreover, when power cord is removed, battery charges for few moments and then yellow flashing light comes on and charging stops. When shutdown, the battery charges normal and 100% charged battery gives almost 4 hours time.

Can any one please guide about the problem. Is the problem in power adapter? or the battery? or the motherboard/hardware?

How to verify problem?

Answer:Satellite Pro L500: indicator flashing amber - battery doesn't charge

It seems that you already posted an thread about similar issue with your notebook some years ago.
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=63225

In first case it seems that your battery was the troublemaker.

You are talking about charging indicator. I?m not quite sure what LED should it be.
There are 5 LEDs - from left: DC IN / Power / Battery / HDD, ODD / Bridge Media Slot

The first DC IN indicator glows green when power is being correctly supplied form the AC adaptor. However, if the output voltage from AC adaptor is abnormal or if the computers power supply malfunctions, this LED will go out.

The second from left Power indicator glows green when the notebook is turned on. If you turn the notebook into the sleep mode, this indicator flashes amber.

The third battery indicator show the conditions of the batter charge. Green indicates the battery is fully charged, amber indicates the battery is charging and flashing amber indicates a low battery condition.

Question:
Are you able to power up the unit without the battery but using just a connected AC adaptor?
Usually this should be possible even if the battery isn?t inserted.

Answer:Satellite L500-1UR - Problem with the graphic

Hi

Unfortunately I cannot explain what happened exactly with your machine. Maybe you have installed all available updates (important and optional). Maybe the display driver was offered as optional driver.

Anyway, what you can do now is follow:
-try to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore option
-reinstall display driver - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
-in worst case you can reinstall OS using HDD recovery option (I hope it works)

If you have more questions you are welcome.

I have a friends TOSHIBA Satellite Pro L500 running win7 32bit. It has this boot up problem I have not come across before. When it boots it stops at the screen with F2 for setup and F12 for boot devices and goes no further. F12 brings up the boot device menu and when the HDD is selected the windows boot menu appears safe mode etc, I need to select 'start windows normally' which it then does.

I have tried 'startup repair', updated bios, deleted partitions and did clean install of the OS and also tried a different HDD. Nothing works.

I don't think it is a BIOS virus because no messages appear. is the ROM damaged?

I tried to upgrade my Toshiba L500-22R Memory to 8GB. I bought 2x4GB Kingston PC3L 12800 SODIMM and the OS doesn't start, I did a memory check and it fails too. I tried with a Samsung 4GB 12800 and it fails too.

The original memory works good.

Any ideas?

Obviously you bought not compatible modules.
The PC3 12800 1600Mhz isn?t listed as an supported module.

The Satellite L500 can be upgraded up to 8GB RAM and you can use two 4GB DDR3 1066MHz (PC3-8500) SO-DIMM modules.

Hello.

For the past few months my Toshiba Satellite L500-1 is shutting down frequently due overheating, which occurs during intensive use of the laptop (during gaming, photomanipulation etc.). However, I do not know what I can do about this. I will not open my laptop, unless I am told to open my laptop to do a specific task.

Today my laptop shut off again. However, when I turn it back on I noticed something happened with my fan. At this point, my laptop will not overheat fast as usually. Instead of fanspeed of 90+% it stays around the 58 to 60% (according to the Toshiba PC Health Monitor). Nevertheless, I noticed something happened with my fan. After shutdown I noticed that the fan will occasionally make a ticking noise, which is heard once every 10 minutes when the laptop is under intensive use.

What should I do now? This does worry me, should I be worried about this? Maybe another Toshiba user with a similar problem can provide me support. I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L500 - Shutdown and a fan problem

Hi

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem can be.
When you use your notebook do you use it placed on the desk?
Do you use it with AC power supply?

Which power profile do you use when notebook shuts down?
Have you tried to change power settings or anything else?

Before you start to use it intensively have you tried to end some background processes, disconnect external devices, just to see if this will help?

Hi,

I have a problem creating recovery disks for the Satellite L500-126.

I am using the Toshiba recovery disk creator.

The 1st disk is ok.
When I try to make the 2nd disk, the systems stops exactly at 50% of the 2nd disk. and no more reaction from the disk creator.

I tried 2x, and each time i had to abort and throw away the dvd's.

any suggestions?

Any ideas what could cause the problem?

Dear Toshiba,

Perhaps some can explain for me how this happens.

We have 2 x L500 laptops, One was purchased and activated on a day July 2010 ( Machine1 )
The other was purchased 1 day later from the same store and activated on the same day - 1 day later ( machine 2)

Yesterday, machine 1 responded with the Warning message, there is a problem with the cooling system - please shut down the machine and return it for service.

Today machine 2 responded with the exact same message, just after being switched on after 4 hours off....an unusual situation you say or is it some sort of built in : service generating feature ???
I am not convinced it's a fluke and there was nothing wrong with either machine that I could see.

Anyway a reboot of each machine fixed the problem, see how long it takes to return.
As you guessed it , both machines are out of warranty by a few months now.

If any of you have a similar problem, would be glad to hear from you.

regards,

Ernie

Answer:Satellite L500: Warning : Problem with Cooling system message

Hi

A friend of mine has got the Satellite L500. As far as I know the notebook runs pretty well.

I?m not sure if this message has been created due to a software issue but the notebook should shuts down automatically if the cooling modules would not work properly and if the temperature would goes up to a higher level?

So I recommend watching the temp level for the next time and of course you could get in contact with an Toshiba ASP in your country if would notice higher temp or some hardware issue with the cooling module?

Hi

My DVD player is not working.

There is power to it. The motor fires up when I eject and reinsert it. The Control Panel Troubleshooting for Hardware and Devices says it is a driver problem but cannot fix it. Problem with driver.

I have reinstalled it from Toshiba site.
Is it saving to the correct place?
I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit and chose the correct driver for this.

Should I be using the 64bit?
I only have 3MB RAM which was the spec when bought.

If I wanted to change to the 32bit how do you do it without the CD/DVD player?
Is there any point in doing this?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L500-1CQ PSLS0E - CD/DVD drive does not work - Driver problem?

Hi

To be honest I?m a little bit confused.
Are you not able to boot from ANY disks; Windows disk, recover disk, Linux disk???

If it?s the case, then this means that you CD/DVD drive is faulty.
Why? Because CD/DVD drive is recognized and controlled by BIOS while booting from CD or DVD.

When Windows operating system has booted up, then the CD/DVD drive should use the common Microsoft driver which is a part of the Windows OS.
This means that you don?t need to install ANY drivers in order to get the CD/DVD working.

If you can boot from any disk but if the CD/DVD drive is not recognized in MY Computer, then I recommend checking this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270008/en-us

Before you would delete the upper and lower filters from the registry, delete the CD/DVD drive from device manager and then go to registry and remove filters. Then reboot the unit.

Good luck

I have Toshiba Satellite A300 PSAG0E laptop.
Suddenly battery icon in my laptop started showing " There is a problem with your battery so your computer might shut down suddenly" .

Any idea why this has happened and what should i do?

What would be the price of new battery in USD?

Answer:Problem with Satellite A300 battery - battery icon shows error

Guest what: it?s the first time that I?m reading about such issue...
Of course I read many messages abut battery issues but I have never ever seen an error notification by battery icon.

You could try to recalibrate the battery.
Discharge the battery completely. Then recharge it to 100%. Repeat this twice!
Then check how the notebook works.

But you should know that sooner or later your battery would die and you would need to replace the battery.
You can get a 6 cell PA3534U-1BAS/BRS battery for about 70-90 Euros?

My L755 has always struggled with battery life. From new, it was only managing a little over one hour and it was no surprise when it booted up one day with an ugly red cross over the battery and a suggestion that I might like to consider replacing the battery.

I went to Amazon and bought a 'genuine brand new Toshiba battery'.
The battery arrived, it is the right part number, but I was immediately suspicious because the battery had stickers on it that did not seem correct and a manufacturing date in 2010.

The sticker that bothered me most stated that it might contain NiCad, NiMH or Li-Ion cells -
I am sure that Toshiba are more professional than to randomly build the packs.

Sure enough, when fitted to the laptop I get a flashing battery light and it shows no interest in booting up. Should I give it a few hours to charge and try again, or go straight to Trading Standards to try and get the cowboy supplier investigated?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L755 - Battery Problem - Suspect phoney battery

Hi

Notebook should be able to boot up also if the battery is empty but connected to the AC adaptor.
If the battery is new, you should consider an longer charging. But as mentioned: even if its empty, the unit should power on and the battery should start to charge after the AC adaptor has been connected.

From my point of view and according to your message, it looks like the battery isn?t ok.
So would recommend to replace it.

By the way: I would recommend purchasing the battery from authorized Toshiba service partner in your country. In such case you can be 100% sure that such battery is an genuine product and compatible with your notebook. Many different internet reseller provide ?low budget? and ?low quality? batteries and sell such batteries as an ?brand-name? product / article.

Until one day the charger stopped charging on and off. I unplugged it a few times and then it stopped working. I let the battery die after. I am guessing that it stopped working because i may have screwed up the charger socket by tripping on the cord thus pulling on it im not really sure anymore. The laptop is in a bad condition, it's four years old i think but it can still run. The battery is the same not change. HELP ME for I am an *****

I need a new keyboard for my L500 and found out, that the keyboad of the P200 (and some other models) seems to be the same (105 keys, num pad, 2 win keys). Are those keyboards 100% compatible or do they just look the same?

In my opinion this question is for Toshiba service and not for user-to-user forum.

Anyway I think that both keyboards are not the same and you should order 100% identical keyboard designed for your notebook model.

Question is: why do you look for keyboards for old notebook models if you can order new one for L500.

Answer:HDD swop from Satellite A300 to Satellite L500

Hi

Satellite A300 supports the same HDD like a Satellite L500. Both use the SATA HDD therefore the inserted HDD should work.
Its good sign, that the HDD is visible in BIOS. This means that HDD is recognized and in good condition.

I?m wondering what you have done after the HDD has been inserted.
Did you try to install the system using Toshiba recovery disk or another disk?
Did you try to format the HDD firstly?

Try to boot form the system disk and format the HDD firstly.
Then follow with system installation

I didn't use my laptop for 2 weeks and now when I try to turn it on there is no sign of life other than the power lights at the front when it's plugged in. It's not just a screen issue - there are no whirring noises or anything when I try to turn it on, I just get nothing.

So far I have tried:

A power cycle
Changing the power supply and battery with my dad's identical computer.
Removing each of the two RAM sticks one at a time, repeating the power cycle, and trying to turn on.
Disconnecting the DVD drive and turning on.

None of these worked.

Hi

What you could try to power up the unit using the RAM modules which are used in Dad?s identical notebook.
In case this does not help, I would assume some kind of motherboard malfunction might be the reason why the notebook cannot be powered ON.

How to solve this?
I guess you have no many options; the faulty part needs to be replaced. But I think this is a matter of expense

I have an 4-5 years old Toshiba L500-128 and I'd like to upgrade the CPU. Atm I have a Core 2 Duo T6500. I know that I can put a T9500 in it, but if possible I'd like to put even a better one. So I have a few questions:

1) Can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB speed and will it work? T6500 has 800 FSB.
2) Can I put a CPU with 44 or 45W TDP? T6500 has 35W.
3) If answer is yes to both previous questions, can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB and 45W?

Is possible I'd like to put something like T9900 or even a Quad Core.

Thanks in advance :)

Answer:CPU upgrade for Satellite L500-128

>1) Can I put a CPU with 1066 FSB speed and will it work? T6500 has 800 FSB.

In my opinion you should check the chipset compatibility and the CPU support.
As far as I know the notebook?s motherboard supports the Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset

On Intel Ark page I could find the Intel mobile GM45 chipset specs and compatible products:
http://ark.intel.com/products/35134/Intel-82GM45-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller-Hub

However, fact is that new CPU needs to be supported by the chipset and BIOS.
If one of the parts (chipset or BIOS) would not support the new CPU, the notebook will not boot up.

Additionally you should also know that notebook manufacturers don?t support CPUs upgrade.
What does this mean exactly?

This means that even if the chipset would support new CPU, the BIOS could be the troublemaker and would not support the upgraded CPU. From my long experience, there are no information about the BIOS support. Therefore the CPU upgrade is always an risky procedure. Maybe it will work, maybe not?

Hoping someone can provide with me some insight. I'm buying a new computer and other than Harmon Kardon speakers, I don't seem to see a huge difference between the L500 and the A500 series. To be more specific, here are the models I'm looking at. As you can see, they differ in price quite a bit, so what's the story? Is there a huge difference in the system other than the speakers?

[http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/laptop-model.jsp?family=Satellite&model=L500] [http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/laptop-model.jsp?family=Satellite&model=A500]

And yes, I'm aware of all the customization options, but even if they have the EXACT same specs, that A series is still more expensive. Why?

Answer:Satellite A500 or L500 - which is better?

I would go for the A500, because its generally a higher end model with faster components.

The A500 has an Intel CPU and dedicated ATI graphics, compared to the L500D which has an AMD CPU and a slower ATI Graphics chip.

Is this normal?
Or do I have to change some settings in the BIOS or something?

I also believe this effect started after a BIOS update which was released by Toshiba a few days ago...

Did you load the default settings in BIOS after the update?

Furthermore you can adjust the cooling method in Windows Power Options. There you can set the cooling method for each power profile, for example Maximum Performance or Battery Optimized. I would recommend choosing the Battery Optimized cooling method, it?s enough in my opinion and the notebook is more silent.

Hello

As far as I know newest notebook models will not be supported for WXP anymore. At some point WXP must be history and you should use newest hardware with newest OS.
Anyway, your notebook model has Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset and if you need WXP drivers you are on your own. Google is your friend! ;)

I just hope you have created recovery installations DVD before you installed WXP.

I changed my operating system to windows 8 64bit , all hardware defined by windows except chipset & blutooth (I defined them once from Windows 7 another time from latest model like L830). but the function key not working (for wirekess/blutooth on/off ).

Is there any drivers for L500-21T for windows 8 64bit or from specific new compatible models drivers?

On http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/checkWindows8Compatible.do?service=EU you can check if your notebook is supported for Win8 OS.

One more thing: your notebook has Intel HM55 Express Chipset. Interesting is that Tecra A11 with part number PTSE0E has the same chipset and it is supported for Win8 so you can try to use chipset driver offered for this Tecra notebook.

So today I decided to restart my computer because it was being a bit slow.

Now the whole laptop wont even boot up. In the picture that happens, then it brings me to the boot menu.
I try every boot option but it just brings me back to the boot menu.

When i try to system recover, the screen turns black after it says 'Windows is loading files'.
I havent done anything to it in the last 24 hours.

What it looks like when i boot up.

Answer:Satellite L500 won't boot

On the picture its visible that the notebook tries to boot from the HDD?. But obviously this procedure fails.
Therefore I would assume that the internal HDD does not work properly?
Probably the previous slowdowns were related to the HDD issues.

Try to boot from using a Linux Live CD or another bootable system live disk (WinPE)
Such ?Live CDs? don?t install anything on the HDD and usually even if the HDD would be faulty, the notebook could be booted up.

Finally I think you will need to replace the HDD in order to reinstall the system.

I just bought a new Satellite L500-1EH, Windows 7 and none of my function keys work with the fn keys seem to work (meaning that when I press fn key + one of the function keys nothing happens). Does somebody know how can I solve it?

thank you very much,

Hi

What do you think about installing the drivers for FN keys?
You have to download Toshiba Value Added Package that you can find on the Toshiba website.

I had a similar issue and after installing this Toshiba all everything works. :)

Can you enter the Bios pressing F2 on powering up? Have you tried to restore from Hdd recovery? You say that has started after trying to do a System restore, so I guess the bootsect.exe corrupted... If you have Windows live Cd try to boot up from it.

Toshiba doesn't support GPU upgrade so you cannot use more powerful graphic card with your notebook.

Last week I bought a brand new Satellite L 500 laptop with Inter i3 processor, 1 GB ATI graphic card, 4 GB ram, etc.
Everything is OK in general, however, I find the fan to be very very noisy.

I used to own a HP Pavillion laptop and could hardly notice the fan while with my new laptop the fan noise is really loud.
Does anybody know if this is normal or if this could be fixed somehow?

I researched the internet for a solution but I could not find any and apparently nobody is complaining about the fan noise on L 500 laptops so perhaps it is me only that have this problem?

Thanks.

Stefano

Answer:Satellite L500 and Fan Noise

For optimal notebook usage use ?Balanced? power plan. Go to advanced settings for this plan and in Toshiba power saver you can find ?Cooling method? option.
Reduce the level there. I am pretty sure notebooks fan will be much quieter than before.

I just hope you have created recovery DVD before you have started to install own OS. After own OS installation you will not have access to recovery data anymore.

You are right. For WXP installation you need SATA driver. How to install WXP on newer notebook models you can read on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB85017Z0000R01.htm

Hi,
I cannot get my Toshiba Satellite L500 13T PSLJ3E to work. Here is the timeline:

1. I brought it with Win Vista, It worked great for about 6 months but started slowing down and I decided to change it to Windows 7

2. I installed the Windows 7 using custom install(creating new "windows" folder, not upgrading Vista). Once again it worked great for about a month, but once again it ran into trouble - showing the Windows 7 version of the blue screen of death for 0.5 seconds followed by a restart.

3. I browsed the net and they said that the easiest way to get rid of the problem is to re-install. I did it(after trying several windows repairs) but yes, thats right, it died - before starting the windows it showed problems with Realtek Wireless.

4. I had hopes that third time - the charm will work and re-re-installed the W7(every time using new installation).
Once more time - doesnt work, but this time I cannot even get to install it - the windows installer stops at around 60% of the expanding files and says: problems with the media device. And after the restart I cannot find the Hard Drive(the BIOS shows only FDD and CD/DVD)

Now I'm stuck here, the only way to start the windows is by Safe Mode on my Wondows installed on point 3, yet not every time .
Unfortunately the first of my Recovery DVDs cannot start and on top of that I cannot enter into the recovery partition by pressing 0 at start up, but I see the Recovery Partition when I go to the WIndows in... Read more

PS. I will not recommend installing windows on windows and reinstalling it. Better format drive and install new clean OS.

Hi guys,

I recently bought a new Satellite L500-19X.
Had no real problems until the battery died last night and now it will not boot Wndows at all.

When i switch it on it comes up with the "Start Windows Normally" and "Launch startup repair" options. If i try and repair it loads some files then goes to a black screen with the cursor on it. If I start windows normally it just tries for a bit and goes back to those two options.

From what i've seen a lot of people have had similar problems, all o the sugested solutions have been unsuccessful for me though.

Can't load safe mode. Tried using the recovery disc that was provided and that just leads to the same black screen with the cursor. Also tried booting up without the bttery etc. that also didnt work.

I'm running (or at least trying to run) windows 7 which is already installed on the hardrive.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, ive tried pretty much everything though.

Cheers for your time. Any help would be great.

Answer:Cannot recover my Satellite L500-19X

Hi

Hmm?. you?ve got a blinking courser in the upper left corner?
This looks more like an HDD or partition issue?

But try this:
Power up the unit and press F8.
Then choose ?Repair my Computer? and then choose (if possible) HDD Recovery.

If this is not possible then go to BIOS and check if the HDD is recognized (all details should appear).
If HDD is not recognized, then this would mean that your HDD is faulty.

If the HDD is recognized then there could be something wrong with a partition on the HDD?

In such case you could try to create an bootable system disk like WinPE:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Preinstallation_Environment

Then could format the HDD again and after that could use the recovery disk in order to reinstall the Win 7.

hi everyone, i currently have a toshiba satellite L500, running windows 7, 3 gb ram 350gb hdd..

it was running fine until a fortnight ago, when my computor kept popping up message in the far bottom right hand corner saying windows error, critical error, youre hdd is missing, missing RAM etc etc, a window popped up telling me to do a system scan which i did and it came up with all these very bad errors.. it them popped up a program calle dmemory optimizer and told me to scan and do a defrag.. which i did.. and then teh next thingi knew, the hdd had disapeared from my computor, i couldnt access anything on the desktop, but could tab between the pages i already had open. then teh whole thing crashed.

i did a recovery on my own, and the error appeared to be fixed.. but then would only work properly in safe mode. so i took it to a repairer who charged me $188, reformatt teh whole drive, put on a copy of kapersky and office full version..

the day after getting it home, i noticed when i was typing things, the cursor would move about the page on its own, and id end up typing in the middle of what id already typed, sooo frustrating!! so the tech man suggested i download a program called touchfreeze.. and it fixed it..

now the last day or two, ill be in the middle of working on my laptop and it will just go to a black screen.. and it will resume when i press the mousepad, or it will completely turn off and go into sleep mode..
theres no settings on for sleep or hybernate,... Read more

hello every body

I really need drivers for Satellite L500-14F. I just bought it and I did format for it then it asked me for drivers update. The shop doesn't gave me any CD for it. Is it right for this model without drivers CD if it is why they made without drivers update?

Please answer me I'm waiting.

Answer:Satellite L500-14F - Where can I get drivers?

Hi!

What OS have you installed?

The L500-14F belongs to the PSLJTE series so you can find all drivers on the Toshiba page. I?m wondering that you didn?t find them.
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

And yes that?s normal that Satellite L500 doesn?t have a recovery DVD because you have to create this disk yourself. Therefore you have to start the Toshiba recovery disk creator on preinstalled OS but now it?s too late because you have already installed another OS. If you want a recovery disk you have to order a new one from Toshiba directly.

At the end I can only say you should read the user manual first if you buy something new. You shouldn?t use the notebook if you don?t know anything. ;)

Could somebody please tell me which keyboards are suitable for Toshiba L500-1V1?

I have to get it as soon as possible and it seems to be impossible to find an original Toshiba keyboard replacement here in Finland.

That is why I am wondering if some other brands keyboard (f.ex asus, acer, hp, samsung, lenovo) would suit my computer because they are available in stores?

Thank you in advance!

Answer:Satellite L500-1V1 What keyboard can I use?

Hi

The Satellite L500 supports and is equipped with an standard black A4+10key keyboard.
Usually keyboards released for other notebook series using the same layout (A4+10key type) should be compatible.

Furthermore you can always order a compatible keyboard from Toshiba authorized service partner in your country.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to replace the existing 2Gb factory fit memory with 2 x 4Gb .

I've purchased the memory after confirming the memory requirements by manufacturer and model.
When installed the Bios correctly reports 8Gb installed yet when I allow the computer to boot the screen sits blankly with a cursor blinking in the top left corner. Leaving the unit for up to an hour makes no difference.

I've tried to load each sim individually with the same result and have replaced the memory once already with the supplier to no avail.

The memory supplier has now suggested going back to Toshiba (I guess out of desperation).

Am I doing anything fundamentally wrong ?

Hi,

I am experiencing a "little" problem. Everything started with the following BSOD :

0x00009C (0x00000000, 0x8922c94c, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I managed to find out that the touchpad is faulty. I disconnected it , problem solved.

It was working fine until I noticed that only one core is working out of 2 (Intel i3 M330).

In the BIOS I found:

Dynamic CPU Freqency Mode - Always Low

Core Multi-Processing - Disabled

So I switched them on to:

Dynamic CPU Frequency Mode - Dynamic

Core Multi-Processing - Enabled

For first the windows 7 64bit crashed with the followind BSOD message:

STOP 0x0000009C (0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF88002F6BB70, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

Since this message I can switch it on but there is no display, no response.

Is there any solution for this?

Modell: Satellite L500- 1QK

PSLS9E-01000SEN

Answer:Satellite L500 BSOD

>Since this message I can switch it on but there is no display, no response.

I?m afraid I don?t understand this? what do you mean by ?no display? exactly?
Can you see the Toshiba splash screen and can you access the BIOS properly?

From my understanding this BIOS should be set to default settings (in BIOS press F9 and F10 to save the changes) in order to get the same BIOS settings configured by Toshiba? then the BIOS should be configured properly.

Generally speaking the BSOD appears due to serious software or hardware problem.
In most cases the system recovery should solve system problems but if the BSOD would still appear even after the usage of recovery disk, then I would assume your hardware is affected.

This would mean that any single hardware parts like memory or motherboard should be tested

Hi All

I am new to this forum. I have been given a Toshiba Satellite L500 to attempt to repair and the fault is that the laptop was shutdown normally and now will not turn on.

I have checked the power adapter which is giving out 19.25v. I have stripped the laptop down to motherboard level and have checked where the DC jack plug is soldered to the motherboard and that also reads 19.25v with the adapter plugged in. Can anyone suggest a possible cause.

My initial thoughts are a motherboard failure but any other ideas are very welcome.

Answer:Satellite L500 is not Switching ON

Your description is OK but we still don?t know some facts.

When notebook is connected to AC power supply is power LED on notebook ON or not?
Is battery LED on (charging)?

On this virtual way we can just speculate what the problem can be but if there is no power supply there must be problem with power supply electronic and, I?m afraid, you need some professional help with this.
