Satellite L500-164 - Does the touchpad has scroll function?

Question: Satellite L500-164 - Does the touchpad has scroll function?

I'm interested in buying notebook L500-164.

Can anybody tell me if this notebook has a touchpad with scroll-function?
And if, only page down or also "left to right"?

Preferred Solution: Satellite L500-164 - Does the touchpad has scroll function?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L500-164 - Does the touchpad has scroll function?

Yes, the Satellite L500 supports virtual scrolling.

But therefore you need the touchpad driver, this feature is software based as on other notebook. It?s not a problem because the driver is already preinstalled and additionally you can download it on the Toshiba page. :)

Have fun with a new Satellite L500. Friend of me bought it too and it?s really great and the price is also good.

Satellite L750/04K laptop intermittantly looses abiliy to scroll with touchpad but remains ok for movement around screen.
Scrolls ok if I use external mouse.

Can fix with a restart. Has been working ok for about 4 months previously. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks, Mooky.

Answer:Satellite L750/04K - Touchpad intermit loss of scroll function

As I understood you message: the touchpad is working properly but only the scroll function does not work. Right?

In such case I would recommend checking the option in Control Panel -> Mouse
Here you will need to switch to last tab and go to Advanced Settings.
Usually, there you should find the settings for touchpad:

I have just brought a new A500/026 laptop and when I play music from my ipod I get a small pop static sound on regular intervals during the song... this happens on all my music. I accidentally scroll horizontally across my touhpad and my screen minimises or maximises. I try to locate how I did it but can never seem to get it back to its normal state. There is obviously some kind of function here, can anyone help me with what this is? I have installed the x64 bit version of windows 7.

Answer:Issues with sound and scroll function on touchpad on my Satellite A500/026

The touchpad settings are placed in control panel -> mouse
There you will find the additional tab which would allows you to access the touchpad properties.

As far as I know the touchpad properties contains a lot of different options which allows you to configure the scroll function, to enable and to assign different actions to the touchpad corners, etc?

Check it!

My touchpad (Alps Ver. 7.0.302.8) looses the scroll function periodically when switching between web sites in Firefox.
Under "mouse properties" the graphic shows no activity for the scrolling activity.

It usually highlites the graphic when I touch the scroll area of the touchpad. I am at the latest driver ver., but have not tried removing & reinstalling it yet. Anyone know if this is likely a Vista (Vista Home Premium SP1) issue or an Alps driver issue?
I also occasionally lose my pointer settings, like speed, when awaking from sleep. Not sure of exact conditions when this happens though.

I have seen an issue with my wireless adapter not being recognized after after sleep.
For this, I must restart the computer & the device is reinstalled.
The problem with the touchpad did not occur for the first 2 weeks of use, but the wireless adapter problem started from day 2 or 3.

Oh, BTW, I also have a Logitech mouse (Ver. installed & Wacom ( driver installed.
I can do without the Wacom being installed at start, but I do want the Logitech mouse driver installed.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, kev

Answer:Satellite P305-S8828 touchpad loosing scroll function

Hey kev

We can discuss about this just if you use recovery image or ?factory settings?. You have installed third part driver and the Toshiba responsibility stops there. Nobody knows if there is some negative influence to Toshiba preinstalled driver.

If you want to have full touchpad functionality, use Toshiba stuff only. But if you want to use some external device with own driver or software you must live with it.

The two-finger function seems to be delayed (as in, it will work 10 min after i log in to the computer), or it sometimes does not work at all. To make it work, i would have to go to controlpanel-->mouse. Of course, i have redownloaded the driver around 3 times, which temporarily fixed the problem. Any way to permanently fix this? P.S, sometimes the num-lock/cap-lock animation that appears at the bottom right corner of the screen stop working too (if that helps)

Hi there,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300D that came with Vista, but recently my hard drive died and I installed Windows 7 64bit with the new one. My problem is that the Synaptics touchpad lost its scroll function, and Toshiba doesn't provide the drivers for Win7, only for XP and Vista (and those don't work, I've tried it).

What can I do to make it work again? Thanks!

Hey there,

i recently got a harddrive replacment for my Qosmio f60 laptop and windows had to be reloaded.
When my laptop was previously working i could two-finger scroll on pages and such,
Now i cant, and i cannot find a setting for it anywhere.

ive downloaded a driver called 'scrybe' which allows me to do this,
but i would much prefer not running an extra processor and just using the laptops default function.

Can anyone explain why my laptop previously let me do this and now cant? and how i could fix it?

thanks heaps!

Answer:Qosmio F60 - Cannot use touchpad Two-Finger scroll function

> can anyone explain why my laptop previously let me do this and now cant?

Maybe the Synaptics touchpad driver is not installed?
The Synaptics driver provides additional touchpad features.
Therefore I recommend installing this driver.

The settings can be found in control panel -> mouse -> Advanced tab -> advanced settings

I can't get the mouse wheel to scroll in any application using an external mouse - the touch pad scrolls ok.

I have tried many different mice. The wheel button brings up a display of all the programs I have open (Windows 7) but moving the wheel does nothing. I'm currently using a Microsoft cordless mouse but I have tried it with corded mice as well. Nothing seems to work.

Answer:Satellite L500 - Mouse Scroll doesn't work

That?s really strange.
Have you maybe installed some application that you got with this Microsoft mouse?

I have two notebooks and two external devices. One is Logitech and the second one some cheap no name mouse and both were recognized properly on preinstalled Win7.

I have a Satellite L500-1DT and the last few days it has started to say 'Your HDD has the smart predict failure function' - is this something I have done to it, or is it a manufacturers problem? I have only had it two months.

Does anyone know if I can fix it myself??
I've just got to Spain and am here for the next two months.

I am useless with technology................

Any help would be good.

Answer:Satellite L500-1DT - HDD has the smart predict failure function

Please don't fix anything alone. New notebook has valid warranty so if something is going wrong affected parts should be replaced and warranty will cover all costs.

Please visit THIS page and read what SMART means.
With other words Your HDD is going bad so please back up all your important data and contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

I don't know where you live in Spain but to find nearest Toshiba authorized service provider please visit Toshiba support page under > Support & Downloads > Find an ASP. Contact them as soon as possible.

Good luck!

You have reinstalled Win7 using original Toshiba recovery image?

Generally speaking all you can do now is to reinstall TVAP or flash cards support utility.
Have you tried to restart flash cards? Do this and press FN button several times.

Anyone knows how can I uninstall the touchpad of my Toshiba L500-128??

Answer:How can I uninstall touchpad of Satellite L500-128

Why you want uninstall the touchpad?
If you want you can disable this using the key combination FN + F9.
This helps to enable or to disable the touchpad without uninstalling the touchpad driver.

But you can uninstall the touchpad driver in control panel -> Programs and Features

There you will find the installed Synaptics touchpad software.
Otherwise you can uninstall the touchpad driver in device manager -> mouse and other pointing devices.

Ok I have an Satellite L500 and I got it back in December 2009. Ever since I first got it, if I ever press the function button the BSOD appears and the computer restarts. I don?t particularly use the function button often, but it?s just in case I press the wrong button and it?s a nice feeling not to have a laptop-suicide button haunting my keyboard.

Also if I decide to shut down the laptop completely, and turn it back on at a later time, it?s likely that it will appear then as well. I have no clue as to why this is but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot

I am using the touchpad at the moment as my mouse has died. When I am using the touchpad the screen keeps resizing - in the time I have been on this page, the screen has gone from normal to huge to normal to huge and is currently normal size.

It is sooooo frustrating as it doesn't happen when I use my mouse.

Can anyone tell me how to stop the touchpad resizing the screen??

Answer:Satellite L500 - Screen resizing when using the touchpad

Do you mean the Internet Explorer screen or what?

I?m not quite sure what cause this but it could be possible that you have activated a touchpad option which could cause this.

Please check the option in control panel -> mouse -> Pointing Device -> settings (or properties)
There you should find Synaptics options for touchpad

Check if you could find some options which could affect this issue.

Please be aware that FN + Space key combination would change the screen resolution too.

I have a one month old Satellite L500-19Z operating on Windows 7 64bit.
Whilst using it to edit some photographs, it began to behave strangely. It was as if someone was rapidly depressing the mouse left button. I was unable to exit any program or use the Start Menu to reboot.

After disconnecting power, and battery, I started it in Safe Mode, but the problem was still there. If I hovered over any icon it brought the window up repeatedly. By disabling the touchpad using Fn+F9, I was able to use a graphic tablet to re-boot and it works as normal. I am reluctant to use the System Recovery or the Recovery Discs that I created when I bought it due to the number of third party programs that I would lose.

Has anyone experienced this problem please? What do I do to enable the touchpad to see if it is now working properly?
Many thanks

Answer:Strange issue with touchpad on Satellite L500-19Z

Can you enable/disable the touchpad by pressing FN+F9 as usual?

In your case I would also update the touchpad driver. You can download it here: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

If an external mouse works but the touchpad still makes problems I think you should use the Toshiba recovery disk to restore factory settings. After this you have the same settings as on the first day where you bought the notebook.

I just have a few issues with my L500.

I've only had it for 2 months and I am pedantic about it to the point that it is either always in a bag when not being used or on a desk when it is and I even clean it with a paintbrush.

Despite all this it looks like I've had it for years. There are chunks missing out of the case and scratches all over the thing and the little rubber feet either side of the webcam are coming unstuck and will eventually fall out.

The mouse pad is also doing strange things regardless of the settings I have selected for it. It sometimes will not work on the left hand side of the screen and will flick off to the right and I have to restart the machine to get it to work properly again or I have to tap it several times to get it to do anything at all or it scrolls wildly and I can't get it to stop.

Basically it's under warranty, I'm unimpressed with that fact that it is obviously made of shoddy material and is being damaged when I am taking care of it and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do about it.

I'm thinking abnormal wear and tear is possibly the case here.

Hmm? strange? what to say? my L505 is some month old but it looks like purchased at the first day.
No scratches, nothing! Of course I?m careful with this notebook and use a microfiber cloth in order to clean this. I don?t use it ?on the road? and I think this is the reason why it looks so nice? the plastic covers looks like other common covers used in other notebooks models? so don?t see any big differences.

> The mouse pad is also doing strange things regardless of the settings I have selected for it. Regarding the touchpad;
I think you should take a look into touchpad configuration settings: control panel -> mouse -> device settings -> settings (or properties)
There you can configure the settings provided by Synaptics driver.
Note; touchpad uses both drivers: Alps and Synaptics?
If you have some issues then an update might be recommended.

I have a Satellite L750 (my first Laptop and first touchpad) running Windows 7. I have set the mouse scroll to 1 line at a time but every time I place the pointer on the right scroll bar down arrow (and press the left button or tap) the screen jumps so that the scroll bar is at the bottom. I want the screen to 'inch' down slowly as it would if I was using a mouse wheel.

Yes, I know that the answer is probably very easy so please, those folks that are itching to reply remember I am a 'newbie' at touchpads.

Answer:Satellite L750 - How do I scroll with the touchpad?

You can scroll with the touchpad on right side of it. Just move your finger up or down on the right side of touchpad and you can scroll with this gesture. It?s not complicated and very easy.
Furthermore such basic operations are described in user manual and I would recommend reading it. ;)

If you are not familiar with the touchpad you can also connect an external USB mouse (same mouse like on a desktop computer). Such external mouses are not expensive and you don?t need a driver for that. Just connect it to one USB port and it?s ready to use :)

Does this means that scrolling function is available after the installation of Win 7?

Hmm? for me it sounds like you would need to configure this touchpad function.
You can do this in control panel -> mouse -> device settings
There should be an additional tab containing all the touchpad options?

There you could change and increase the touch area which is needed for scrolling and similar? you could increase the sensitivity too?

All good, only my touchpad didn't scroll.

After a new driver version 703014, it works.
Only vista keeps naggin by the start up. I have to accept the drivers three times before it works.
Every time by a start up!

After a while, i finally found the solution - sadly enough - this weekend i had to reinstall my laptop en forgot what the solution was.
I have the same driver, version 703014 from the toshiba site and saddly the same problem.

I can't find the solution on the dutch sites, so i hope you can help me!

I already tried to install the drivers by de hardware programs, this didn't help!

Answer:Satellite A110-156 - touchpad doesn't scroll

Maybe you have to configure the touchpad again?

I think you will find the touchpad settings in control panel -> mouse.
There you have to search for the touchpad entry? I?m not sure if you have to got to the properties or settings but one of this option should be available to get advanced touchpad settings.

The A110-156 seems to be a PSAB0E series?
If you are using the Vista then you have to update the BIOS to the 5.20-WIN version because this BIOS is only for Vista usage!

On the first install of Vista on my A300D-161 I could scroll with my touchpad by moving my finger from right above to right down on the touchpad,
Now I reinstalled Vista and I installed the utility but it doesn't have a option for scrolling.

How/what now?

One day I realized I had lost pinch and scroll functions on my touch pad. Don't know why.
So I tried to install a Synaptics touch pad Driver. This provided the missing functions but the Cursor got delayed and the sensitivity of the touch pad was restricted to a certain spot. Therefore I de-installed the Synaptic Driver again.
The sensitivity issued got cured but I still had no pinch and scroll function on the touch pad.
Therefore I went to the Toshiba download site and learned that the ALPS Driver was the original Driver.
I tried to install this Driver (as requested for 64 bits).
The installation seemed to pass smoothly. After re-starting there is still no pinch and scroll functionality and nowhere the driver is found neither in the programs list nor added to the "mouse" Screen in the System functions Folder.

How can I get that pinch, zoom and scroll functions back to my touch pad?

Answer:Satellite L50-B - lost touchpad pinch and scroll functions

This sounds like program interference, you will need to perform a clean boot and disable firewall and antivirus and then try and install the driver. Here is a description on how to perform a clean boot,

the Alps touchpad driver for W8.1 that is currently supplied by Toshiba does not have an option to adjust the vertical scroll speed of the two finger gesture. With the default speed, even leaning the fingers downwards without moving them results in a scroll that is equivalent of PAGE_DOWN, e.g. way to fast. The version I use is the latest one from the website (

There is a registry entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Alps/Apoint that make the situation a bit more bearable (set ScrollLines to 1), but there is no way to adjust if further it in the settings or the registry

A newer Alps Driver (8.103.404.104) from another company has this option and scrolling works like it should on the lowest speed, but it does not support 2-finger rightclick.

Why does toshiba use an outdated driver that is missing this critical function? Is there a new driver available? Did anyone find a fix for this?

Answer:Satellite Z30 - Updated Touchpad Driver with adjustable scroll speed?

From my knowledge notebook manufacturers modify and adjust the own drivers.
The driver versions are always different and are not always comparable with driver versions released by other notebook manufacutrers.

As you said above:
the Alps driver released by Toshiba does not support the scroll speed but at the other hand it supports the 2-finger right click.
The other driver supports the scroll speed option but doesn?t support the finger right click.

Well it would nice to have an driver which would support all the mentioned options.
So I think we can just wait and hope that the next releases will support some more nice-to-have features?

Can anyone please help me out on this? Thanks!

Answer:Satellite L650 - Touchpad on/off button function

Hi buddy,

If you did notice this problem until yesterday, I would recommend a system restore to an earlier point. Maybe you have installed or uninstalled some important drivers or tools and so it doesn?t anymore.

If this doesn?t work, try to reinstall Value Added Package and touchpad driver. Both you can download on the Toshiba website.

Is there a way I can turn off the zoom function on my touchpad.
It's very annoying when it continuously changes zoom.

Answer:Satellite C50-B - How to disable touchpad zoom function?

Go to control panel -> mouse
Here you should check the last tab.

The name of this last tab depends on the touchpad driver which is installed on your notebook.
There are two possibilities: either its ELAN or Synaptics driver

In case your notebook supports ELAN touchpad, go to ELAN tab.
Now you will see new ELAN Smart Pad window providing 3 tabs: One finger, Multi finger, Additional
Choose ?Multi-finger tab? and disable the option called Zooming.

I spent a lot of time searching for the solution of my problem, but without effects.

My touchpad is not working properly. I mean, i can move the arrow and click on the screen, that is ok. But all other functions (volume, mailbox and other "virtual buttons" are not working)- so called "dual mode".
I got mouse connected to the USB.

If I disconnect it, there is no change - the touchpad works only in the basic mode.
If I change in touchpad settings for "always in Dual Mode when an outside device is plugged in" - the Dual mode and all the virtual buttons work.
But what should I do to make the dual mode work even if the mouse is not connected (to make the on/off button work)???

Thanks for all help,

Answer:Satellite A200 touchpad function not working properly

I?m a little bit confused now and I don?t know what you want exactly?
You speak about the touchpad, dual mode, USB mouse, etc.

I don?t know what you mean with dual mode and maybe you should give us more informations about your OS.
And do you use the touchpad or USB mouse?

Can you post a screenshot or something else?

I don?t know if this solves your problem but have you tried to update the touchpad driver? You can find it on the Toshiba website.

My Satellite 5200 Series features a PHYSICAL scroll wheel under the Touch Pad in addition to the two "mouse" buttons. I find it a massively useful feature but can't find any current models that have retained it.

Has it been rejected ?

Is there an alternative way of scrolling with newer machines ?

I'd rather not add an external mouse as it blocks a valuable USB port AND I actually DO use my laptop, outdoors on my LAP.

Answer:Satellite 5200: Question about TouchPad scrolling function

Hi Tatterdemalion,

Most modern notebooks using a touchpad have a software scrolling feature (which can be disabled if you wish) to control automatic scrolling. This is very useful for browsing text in Word documents or on web pages etc., The technique (when the feature is enabled) is to set the top left or right corner of the touchpad to be the 'enable' point and by touching this area momentarily it will change the mousse pointer to indicate the autoscroll option. You then just drag the pointer slightly downwards and the screen will start to scroll until you touch the touch pad again.

A manual scroll facility is also available and can be used simply by stroking the right side of the touchpad (down to scroll down and up to scroll up), and the bottom of the touchpad to scroll left and right.

I find these features very useful but I know other people who find them extremely irritating. It is worth checking out.

This option you can find in advanced mouse options.
Control panel > Mouse properties > Device settings and if you have Synaptics driver just click on settings. There you will find option for virtual scrolling.

I am new to the forum so please excuse my lack of computer skills.

I have also reinstalled 'utilities' and in doing this the touch pad mouse stopped working.

Is anyone able to suggest to me what I need to do to fix this?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Satellite P100 PSPA3A - Touchpad and Function keys not working

I've never heard of deleting a keyboard driver, but if some of your buttons work then i think software is fine. It might be a loose keyboard connector coming loose which sits underneath your keyboard around the "ghj" buttons.

I would return the laptop to the place of purchase and get them to fix it. Less grief for you and an easy fix. Keep it simple everyone!

What notebook do you have?

I presume your notebook was delivered with XP and now you want to use it with Vista OS.
Please note that you need to install the Toshiba Vista Value Added Package to use all the notebook features.
Very important is the Components Common Driver and the TOSHIBA Flash Cards.
The Flashcards provides the Hotkey function and the launcher function that starts the Hotkey function.
Please reinstall it!

The additional touchpad functionality must be configured firstly!
This can be done in control panel -> mouse

There you should look for the touchpad settings and could configure the touchpad scroll areas again.

I have a Satellite A210, its about 3 months old now.
At the beginning when i tapped the top right hand corner of the mouse pad it turned a bright blue colour and i was able to use it to control the volume and open up to 6 areas with one touch.

However for the past month or so, for no apparent reason it no longer works, all i can do with it now is tap in the top right corner to expand a window and tap in the bottom left to minimize a window.

Can anyone help explain why this is?

Hello, I got my new Lenovo Ideapad U410 (Windows 7) yesterday and I'm just starting to get things going. The one thing that has been bothering me is that I can't scroll uing the touchpad. It must be the Page Up button/Scroll Lock using the Fn Key, but I've tried it and absolutely nothing happens. The Fn Key works for the upper keys (F1, F5, etc.) but not for the buttons on the side (Home/Pause, End/Break, PgUp/ScrLk, PgDn/Insert). I figure I should reinstall keyboard drivers? I'm really sorry, I've looked through different threads but it seems they all have a different solution and I'm getting a bit confused haha.  Thank you!

Answer:U410 Scroll Lock / FN Key not working - I can't scroll using the touchpad

Hi, since you got the laptop yesterday, did you install / uninstall any drivers? Or did the problem exist  right up? ?f the former please roll the driver(s) back. ?f the problem occured later on,you could do a system restore, if you have a restore point, or even since the system is so new,you could restore to factrory settings. after backing up. Otherwise please call Lenovo support, they'll advise you.

After I updated the BIOS (from Toshiba's website), the scrolling function stop working. I can still click, move the mouse pointer, but can no longer scroll through touch pad. Reinstalling Synaptics driver doesn't resolve the problem. The strange thing is that the computer only detects my touchpad as standard pointing device (port: PS/2) device. 'Pressure graph' and 'Moodpad' function also stop working and complain 'this program requires a Synaptics TouchPad and the Synaptics Pointing device driver'.
My computer is Satellite A200 PSAE0C-TR605C.

Does anyone know the reason?

Answer:Satellite A200 - Touchpad scrolling function stop working after update BIOS

Which operating system is installled and which is more interesting: which BIOS version did you installed?? Why I am asking? Because there are 2 different BIOS versions, one for Vista (1.80) and one for XP (5.20) which means when you flash a XP BIOS on a machine with Vista installed then some functions are not working properly like the FN keys or the touchpad.

Please check this out and make sure you have the proper BIOS installed.

I just had my new W530 delivered yesterday, unfortunately with Windows 8 Professional. I noticed that the cursor would not move when I moved my finger across the touchpad or the cursor was "stuck" until I tried a repeat movement with my finger.   I adjusted almost every setting on the latest lenovo driver which provides for windows 8 screen gestures.   The responsiveness to windows 8 gestures does not appear that good, but it is a story for another post.  The main reason for my post is that vertical scrolling barely works in IE 10.I have all the smart check items disabled and the palmcheck lowered to 3.   I've got the touch sensitivity to light, but have also tried heavy.   I have to push like I'm trying to crack the case to get the cursor to move up and down, and often I will touch the right side of the touchpad and nothing happens or it takes a few tries of swiping to get the window to move up or down.    I called two support agents and the first one reminded me I have 30 days to return the unit for a refund, and the second guy had me update the driver with the lenovo update  utility which showed the same version as the one I downloaded and installed.  It made no difference.   He then suggested that if I keep the laptop, the trackpad needs replacing. From looking at some other posts, I really wonder if the pad could be ok, but lenovo is actually selling this thing with a trackpad that performs that poorly. &nb... Answer:Touchpad vertical scroll horrible or touchpad defective

On the W520, the two finger scrolling is unusable, it just randomly jerks the window, or not. Tried every trick in the book when I first got my W520, after a couple of months of wasting time gave up and only use it with a mouse. I just upgraded my Acer notebook from Windows 7 Pro the other day. Although my touchpad is working fine, I cannot have it enable scrolling. I remember that I had a Synaptics touchpad driver used in the Win 7 OS. After searching around on the web, I attempted the following registry tweak in order to have this work:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\UseScrollCursor set to 0

This did not work, so I explored the manufacturer's website to look around for a driver update. It turned out that Acer does not support my laptop make (Aspire 5750g) for Win 10 driver; so I downloaded the driver from Synaptics' website (Synaptics_v19_0_19_1__C__x86-x64__Win10__Signed__MS_Win10_UXUI) . However, when attempting to install, I got the warning message attached.

Although I attempted to install this anyways in a desperate attempt to make it work, this did not do the job.

Problem and scrolling in Word…. When I hit the wheel mouse and scroll down very slowly, I can control the scroll speed and when I return the black arrow to the centre of the vertical bar the scroll stops. But if I scroll a bit faster, the scroll carries on for a half second or so (which is a lot of scrolled text) after I return the arrow to the centre of the bar.

I’m running Word 97 on Windows 98SE. I have the same OS and Word on another PC and it controls the scrolling fine!

When I installed the mouse software (Chic 1330 5 button mouse), the Setup bumph said “Some other applications with mouse scrolling function may conflict with this mouse function. Remove these applications before install this mouse software.” If that’s the problem I’d appreciate help on what to remove – I just have the standard Buttons/Pointers/Motion tabs on the Mouse section of Control Panel.

I realize that this really a minor problem but it's a very annoying one to deal with. First let me try to follow protocol and tell you all that I have a 7 yr. old Dell with win. XP sp3 and IE8 all up to date as far as I know. Recently after a automatic update, I noticed some wierd things happening, like missing icons in my system tray such as the volume control and also the saftly remove hardware icon. In addition to this my mouse was not working normally, it would go to sleep if left for only a few seconds and seemed to have a delay in responce to movement. Long story short, I was able to correct the other issues with system restore except for the mouse so I decided to replace my old wireless mouse with a new one and it works well except when I'm online, for each click of the scroll button the pages moves about five clicks, usually past the point where I was viewing. It does this in both IE and firefox. The scroll function works fine with the keyboard or the scroll bar on the side of the page. I have been in the setup program and all is set correctly. There is something else that I feel could be a problem...I was unable to uninstall the old I touch software that worked the old mouse and keyboard and another thing that happens is everytime I go to the mouse setup application to look at the set up, when I exit, I get this message "Run a DLL has encountered a problem and needs to close" I just send the error report and close out the window, it doesn't s... That function is very important to me as it allowed me to keep my hand off the mouse reducing the aggravation of carpal tunnel syndrome. Any fixes? I am not sure if this is an IE8 problem or win 7 as I only use the function when browsing the web.

Is it the same with other browsers ? Check if its the same with other browsers like firefox or safari . Is it that you are unable to scroll arrow buttons only with IE or even with windows explorer ?

I am running windows seven and my laptop (a 10 inch acer aspire one) shut down to load some changes after an auto up date. It automatically shut down without prompting me and after it restarted I could no longer use the scroll function on the side of my touch pad. Now I cant scroll at all but half the time I get the little gray circle that signals that the scroll part of the pad is in use but it still does not move the bar on the side of the page. I am not familiar enough with W7 to know where to look to fix this problem. Please help or let me know if there is any other info needed to help me fix this problem.

Hi Phil.
You will have to go to and find the support for your netbook.
I'm guessing it is an AOD250 with a 10.1" screen. That is what I have.
You will need to find the software for your touchpad and rein stall.
Here is the information I think you will need.
TouchPadSynapticsTouchpad Driver14. MB2009/12/08

They have 2 versions from 2 different manufs but I think this is the one one you have. Just download and run.

Let me know how things workout.

I just purchased a new xps 15 and, unlike my family's touchpads and my old xps's touchpad, this one does not have side scrollbar. If it does, I am completely dumbfounded on how to activate it. I love the option of scrolling on the right side of my touchpad and I would enjoy having it on this computer.
Please help and thanks

Answer:How do i get scroll on my touchpad for my xps 15

I had the same problem until about 5 minutes ago. Go to control panel -->Switch to small icons --> Click "mouse" (far right column for me) --> Click "Device Settings" tab on the top right --> Click "settings" (on the middle right hand side) --> Double click "Scrolling" (second on list below "overview") --> Click "One-finger" scrolling--> Check the "enable vertical scrolling"  and "enable horizontal scrolling"
- For some reason Dell set the default to two finger scrolling so if you can't find the above menu try placing your index and middle finger about half and in apart in the middle of the trackpad and pull down like you normally do to scroll with one finger
                         --Hope that helps :)

Question: Scroll on touchpad

Hello everyone,

I just installed the Windows 8 consumer preview and everything seems to be working fine, except I can no longer scroll using my touch pad on my Sony Vaio. Does anyone know how I can fix this or of a driver that is compatible with Windows 8?

Thanks for anyones help!

Answer:Scroll on touchpad

On installing, Win8 doesn't seem to recognize the trackpad as a trackpad. If you go to control panel, you just see the mouse.

Are there trackpad drivers for Windows 8? Class drivers?

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and the first issue I have come across is that my touchpad 2-finger scrolling doesn't work...on anything. I went to device settings and unchecked, then rechecked scrolling abilities to no avail. I also tried the customary restart which did not help either.
I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. Help?

Answer:Why won't my touchpad scroll?

You might want to try the driver for windows 8.1 for the touch muse device. Get it from their website.

hi fangovk,
Welcome to the Forums.
If you have an ELAN Touchpad, it's likely that the feature is disabled in the registry. Try to check this article on how to enable these hidden features then reboot the machine and observe if you now have an Edge Scroll (a.k.a. One Finger Scroll) option.

The procedure requires you to merge a registry file to enable all the ELAN features. Ensure that you create a System Restore point or a registry backup just in case you need to revert back the changes.

I am at my work computer now and I'm having trouble fixing this.

Before I installed my OS that was how it worked (the scroll button would open up a hyperlink in a new tab when I clicked with it, as well as had as simple up down autoscroll function that that neither the universal or autoscroll functions look like), but I cant seem to be able to do that now. I have a logitech mouse so I'm looking at the options from the scroll wheel in setpoint, neither universal or auto scroll are the type of scroll I had before, and the click function doesnt seem to be setable.

Answer:Windows 7 Logitech Mouse center scroll click function

Isn't that the default behavior?
