Satellite L30-SL33 : Unknown device after pluging external device to USB

Question: Satellite L30-SL33 : Unknown device after pluging external device to USB

Dear All,

I bought a Satellite L30-PS33 with Vista but due to driver issues with my existing peripherical equipments, I decides to change from Vista to XP.
I have a problem with internal HUB usb, even if the installation is OK with windows XP generic drivers when I plug an USB devise, I have the message: Unknow device.

Can you give a link to find the good drivers I have to use in my computer?
It's very difficult to use a computer without any USB equipment?

Thank you and I hope you have any solution for me.

Best regards.

Preferred Solution: Satellite L30-SL33 : Unknown device after pluging external device to USB

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite L30-SL33 : Unknown device after pluging external device to USB

There are no USB drivers for any Windows operating system.
Fact is that USB driver are a part of the Windows system and you will not find any 3rd party drivers for a USB port.

In your case I would recommend updating the BIOS and to update the Win XP to the latest state. All XP patches and updates should be installed!!!

Hi !

I have this kind of a problem: I am working with my external Toshiba 3,5 alu case HDD 500GB and after a while of copying files into laptop it dissappears and shows up that device wasn?t recognised.
Can this be caused by not enough power in USB port?

THX for any help or workaround

Answer:Satellite A200-1SI - external HDD after a while shows up "unknown device"

Hi there,

yes this may be caused by the fact there is not enough power supplied by the USB port. firstly note that 3.5inch external USB hard drives are usually designed to be used with desktop systems due to their higher power requirements (this is also the reason that many require an external power supply of their own). my suggestion would be in future buy a 2.5inch external USB hard drive designed for use with laptops. another reason that the hard drive may disappear while copying files is that there may be a problem with the USB cable connection between the laptop and the external HDD. i would suggest checking that both ends are plugged in securely and not to place any pressure on the cables and to keep them stable.

i hope this helps you with your matter

I have installed Vista on my Satellite A100-771. I have also installed all the drivers downloaded from the Toshiba Support site.
But when Vista starts, one message come out always ----- new hardware founded. I really don't know which hardware it is.

There is a unknown Device in device manager, and windows cannot find the driver for this device online.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks a lot!

Answer:Vista on Satellite A100 - Unknown device listed in device manager

Hi there,

may I ask you which drivers you?ve downloaded? And regarding the new founded hardware: Did you checked your device manager for that device?
What is standing there as the non-installed device? Mass-storage or multimedia? Please be more precisely with your explanation and don?t forget the drivers to list.

I am not able to find the one of the Drivers. In Device Manager when I check details of the 'Unknown Device' it says 'TOS6205/ACPI compliant'.

I have tried searching for the 'Bluetooth stack' Driver for my model in the Driver Download pg. But i dont seem to fine one.

Details of my laptop:-
Model :C660-A275
Short Model :PSC1NV (got this from Part No)
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate version 6.1.7600 (build 7600) (i guess it is 32 bit). (laptop is x86)

Please suggest some solutions at the earliest.

Hello there!

I would be very grateful for any help/hints if somebody has an idea what to do....

My gf has the above mentioned laptop (w/o preinstalled OS) and we can not get the display adapter to work properly - situation is as follows

1) mobile intel 4 series express chipset family and an unknown device with a question mark in device manager
2) both are on the same PCI BUS 0, device 2?
3) intel is not working because it has no free resources (should I delete the unknown device?) to work with
4) HW ID for the unknown device is pci ven_8086&dev_2A43 and for intel is pci ven_8086&dev_2A42 (so basically the same, right?)
5) last, but not least, if I go to Desktop-personalize-advanced (first of all no 1280*800 resolution) i see under adapter type: . Exactly, nothing... under properties, this appears: non plug and play device, Super VGA and under driver, I see just the status and option to Stop, Disable, Automatic, Demand.... the device on startup... .If i disable it, the display just does not light up when the laptop is turned on....
Any ideas? I am going insaneeeeee......

Vista Home Premium, all other Toshiba SW installed (value pack, intel, BIOS 1.9, etc... - maybe BIOS did this?!)

Thanks in advance!!!

p.s. maybe SP1 that I am installing now will help?!

Answer:Satellite L300 PSLBGE - Unknown device in device manager

Wait a moment: I have checked Vendor ID and Device ID on and this device is the Intel graphic card. So I think this is the reason why you can?t change the screen resolution.

I assume that you have forgotten to install the display driver. Check the Toshiba website because there you can download the driver: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

After this you shouldn?t have any exclamation marks anymore.

You can install SP1 for Vista but this will not solve the problem with the missing display driver. But you should install it because it contains a lot of security updates they are important. Furthermore I would recommend to install SP2 for Vista.

I don't know if it's related to this but in some application the button delete must me pushed for more than a second to work :-(
Is there anyone that can help me?

Did you reinstall the operating system on your notebook?

Usually the notebook is delivered the Toshiba image and there should be unknown devices in the device manager?

In the forum some guys have placed the link to the very useful Toshiba document.
It described how to identify the unknown devices.

Maybe it will help you to find out what device it is.
Then you can download the right driver from the Toshiba page?

It WinXP Pro + SP 3.
In Device Manager display, as an unknown device. Try all drivers, who were on a disk along with the laptop, nothing helps. Give the solution!

Answer:Re: Satellite 5200-701: Unknown device in the device manager.

who should give you THE SOLUTION? I mean, you tried all drivers and nothing did installed... So, does your machine run properly? Does some device not work like it should?

Please check this firstly before installing all drivers without any success. Try to guess which device it could be, so then we can search for some solution.
A good beginning would be to check the device in the device manager and write some of the information which is contained in the Properties window of the device.
Please post the details which are in the properties of the device, maybe someone here in the forum can find out which device won?t work.

I assume also that the SP3 makes some problems, so another good option would be to deinstall the SP3 and go back to SP2.

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

Hey! Yes I am new to the forum here, as I am to Windows 7, but I have to give it up for Windows this time, Windows 7 is actually more stable, faster and easier to operate than even today's Vista. Although...

I have an Asus M51Se notebook. And it has not a huge drive, so I store most and all my files on an external HDD, a Western Digital 500gb sata HDD inside a Sharkoon Rapid 3,5" e-sata case, all conected through USB, with no driver cd, and should be driver-less according to the producers. Every time I plug the external hdd in Windows 7 cannot find the drivers and says its an unknown device, resulting in a very unpleasant "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

I have googled, I have searched, I have plugged it in and out unimaginable times. I have plugged the HDD out of the case put it inside my stationary computer and plugged it back in with no results. (My stationary ir running Windows Vista HP 64bit). And the stationary computer can find the device, and use it, even after uninstalling the driver, and plugging the device back in. It finds the disc when its in the case and when I plug it into the motherboard, but my Windows 7 running notebook will not.

I have seen some posts here and there, even on this forum about this problem, but those are all of no use to me. So is there anyone out there that can help me with this error? Please, it would be truly appreciated.

Answer:Unknown Device, External HDD

I have had the exact same problem. My proplem was caused buy a usb cable short. I also had the dreaded "unknown device" error followed by a You must format before windows can use this problem (the drive is already NTFS formatted). I also thought it might be a bad drive so I pulled another working sata drive from another box and tried it and it had the same problem. So I thought maybe its a usb port problem and moved it to a different usb 2.0 port. Still no joy. I then had the brain storm that its the cable, and sure enough pulled the "unknown HD" out popped it into another box and it worked.

Sorry to be so long winded and I hope this helps somewhat

I recently upgraded to Win7 Ultimate (clean install) from XP 3/4 weeks ago, and for the last week or so am having problems accessing my USB external drive (although it worked ok at first).
When I connect the drive to my laptop, after a few seconds I hear a windows sound which tells me that the connection failed. In the meanwhile, the drive light displays solid for a moment but then begins to flash at a constant rate that seems faster than when operating normally and the drive cannot be heard.
I went into device manager and checked the properties for the "unknown device" and it was displaying 'code 28' stating the drivers have not been installed, but the last few evenings (after around a dozen or so attempts over several hours during each evening), the drive is somehow detected and is accessible.
I have also tried the following to try and solve my problem

- uninstalled the drive via device manager when displaying as 'unknown device' and rebooted. upon connecting the drive, windows tries to install the drivers but soon displays an error message stating that the drivers are not available.

- updated the bios to no avail

- went into disk management and refreshed drives to no avail
I also tried googling the device id when the drive shows as unknown (which is 'USB\VID_13FD&PID_1618&REV_0100') which brought up many results which seemed to include the line 'pnpdrivernotfound'
I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer, thanks in advance.

Answer:seagate usb external hdd - showing as 'unknown device'

Welcome to the Se7en Forums! FrEnZyUK

One suggestion given when buying any new external hard drive or flash drive often when simply being used as a storage device is to first reformat the factory Fat volume to NTFS for making it readily available. In 7 the support for Fat and exFat has returned allowing you to simply go into the Disk Management tool and assign a new drive letter for the drive. This will initialize the drive as part of the process making it available again.

If you have only a small amount of files and data on the drive presently you could simply elect to backup them up and reformat to NTFS while in the Disk Management at the same time as you custom assign a new drive letter. Windows will then remember the new letter that replaces the temp letter assigned when working.

With usb not so much eSata drives that are plugged in and unplugged often that will even be more of a help once a reformat is performed in automatically being reinstalled by Windows upon plugging the drive back in if unplugged at all.

Just a quick post about my fix to this issue. After getting my PC rebuilt by a colleague I got this issue. I noticed that he had mapped storage volumes to G & H which are usually used when I plugin USB devices. So my fix was:

1) deactivate these storage volumes
2) shut down (overnight as it happens).

I did also have a quick poke at the hard drives but didn't change the configuration.

I appreciate this error is generic but thought I'd post as it may help someone else with this VAGUE PIE-IN-THE-SKY ERROR MESSAGE.

Am Newbie so please be kind.

Answer:USB external hard drive comes up as unknown device

I'm not sure what you mean by Deactivate a storage volume?
All you needed to do was go to Start/Run and type diskmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Disk Management window, Right click the drive and choose Change Drive Letter or Paths, choose a different drive letter that is not being usd.

hi my friend asked me to have a look at a there external hard drive after she split coke on it, and it stop working, the power is still getting to it the hard drive is still spining but the driver appears to be missing.

there is no vissable water marks (no sign of damage within the casing) (also there is no arking, burn marks)

there is power to the board and driver (light on the front and the driver spinning)

mine and there laptop both recognise that there is something there (as a 'unknown device') but it doesn't recognise it as a storage device.

when it did work it installed drivers from the windows drivers. i manually tryed choosing these drivers without success. it came back error code 10.

so i am unsure what the problem to be except the driver is missing,

much abilaged if anyone can help

just to in form i am running on vista

Answer:Toshiba external hard drive unknown device

I think it likely that the usb interface in your external enclosure may be damaged.
The drive may still be undamaged, and transferring it to a new enclosure may be your best best.
Such enclosures are relatively cheap and easily available.
I would not suggest continuing to use the existing enclosure.
Depending on the damage done to the usb interface, that damaged device could cause damage to the usb port of your computer.
Hope this helps.

I have a LaCie external hard drive which works fine on other pc's running Windows 7 Ultimate, but on this one it is an "unknown device". I have tried it in different ports but with the same result. I've checked with Windows Compatability and the exact model is listed there as being compatible. I've been to the manufacturer's website but there are no drivers available.
I have the same problem with any USB device I plug into any port. I have tried a complete Windows re-install from a different CD but it made no difference.
The only USB devices that work are the keyboard and mouse.
I have given the LaCie HD as an example because I am hoping that if I can get a specific device to work, I may be able to solve the problem with others.
I've done the upper and lower filter removal thing in Regedit, and have uninstalled and reinstalled the USB drivers numerous times but nothing works. I've also updated the BIOS.
Any ideas please?

I?m sorry to inform that it is a false indication from Lenovo solution center. Since Windows doesn?t detect any missing device drivers within the device manager, there is no driver that is missing.
If the warning keeps popping up, change the reminder settings to ?never?. Probably, you have to wait for an LSC update in which the bug would be fixed.

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://

Any other ideas?

Answer:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this. Could it be the Intel chipset driver that the optional update is pushing? I'm not sure. I went back to Device Manager, th... Read more

Hi dalmaso, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
Can you explain more about what you are trying to achieve with your Yoga 3 Pro? Why are you trying to run Yoga 2 Pro software?
You can find all the Yoga 3 Pro drivers either on the Lenovo D: partition of the SSD, or on the Lenovo support site.
There is no "Lenovo Energy Management Software" for the Yoga 3 Pro. One Key Optimizer manages advanced Yoga 3 Pro power options.
Hope this helps!

Hi everybody.

I just bought myself a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 yesterday. After installing the card and the required drivers everything works like a charm. However, every time I start up my PC I get a message saying that a new device has been found on my system. On checking Device Manager I found an "Unknown device" entry under "Other devices".

I'm attaching a screenshot of Device Manager.

Are there any drivers I'm missing? It only happened after removing my old card (after uninstalling all its drivers) and installing the Radeon.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Unknown Device In Device Manager After Installing Radeon HD 4890

I have a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 (I also have a Gigabyte 4890 and XFX 4890 in two other PCs). I think you need to install the latest ATI Catalyst Suite. You may have installed the driver only package. Anyway, I think it has to do with the HDMI capabilities of the card. High def sound is built into the card (the HD part of the card name) and the HD sound driver is part of the Catalyst Suite. When you use an HDMI cable to an appropriate display, HD sound is also transmitted through the same cable from the Radeon graphics card.

Of course, be sure to install .NET Framework 2.0 as it is required before you can install the full Catalyst Suite. The HD sound driver won't install without it. At least I had trouble before I installed .NET 3.5. I went to Windows Update and installed .NET Framework 3.5. 2.0 is included in that update and 2.0 wasn't available separately.

I recently put together a new computer, and in the process of of installing the USB 3.0 connector from the front of my GX500 case, I either bent numerous pins on the motherboard USB 3.0 header or the motherboard shipped that way and I inadvertently made matters worse. Anyway, that header on the motherboard is without a doubt unusable.
Since I don't really need the USB 3.0 functionality, I bought a USB 3.0 -> 2.0 adapter cable, connected one end to the connector on the front of the case and the other end into the USB 2.0/1.1 header on the motherboard. Unfortunately, when Windows 7 boots and I plug a device into the front ports of the case, Windows detects the front USB ports as "Unknown Device" within Device Manager yet says the driver is successfully installed. I've already downloaded the most current Intel chipset drivers for my motherboard, deleted and reinstalled all USB drivers, and all rear USB connections are working perfectly fine - it's just the two front ports that are connected from the case to the USB 2.0/1.1 ports via the adapter cable.  I've tried both USB 2.0/1.1 headers on the motherboard, and I've tried plugging in several devices to the front USB ports, and this problem still persists.
I've ensured the connection inside the case is solid, yet I cannot get Windows to recognize the front USB ports.  However, I have confirmed that power is being sent to the front ports because it charges my phone when I connect it to the front USB ports via m... Read more

Doing so you will see the devices that are connected with the laptop. In the icon for my Laptop (toshiba L300) there is a yellow trangle with an! I am instructed to install a driver for an "unknown device".

Doing so (by choosing the option "allow this solution) does not bring me any further. The wizzard doesn't find any drivers and I still don't wich device is ment.

I've found the unknown device by selecting "show hidden devices" in the device management, so here it is:

The hardware id says:

changeinging the attribute or property (sorry guys, my version is dutch and I do not know the proper englisch name) to "name of the device" it says:

Hi friend,

theres another post with the same issue:

Maybe thats then a device which can be left since you won?t get any drivers for it. Another good option would be to google for that error..

hi there.

My CD/DVD Rom device (toshiba SD-C2612) stopped working- it was still registering as a drive, but wouldn't read disks - so I got a replacement and that doesn't install at all.

I also noticed that in Device Manager - under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers - there's an "unknown device" which is called "hdc" (hard disk controller??) which has no drivers installed and cannot find new drivers when I go to update them. I've disabled the device and that stopped the old cd/dvd rom from being recognised and when I reboot it reinstalls the hdc but it is still registering as a unknown device.

Any ideas?

I have installed the Win 8.1 Enterprise Version on my Satellite P70-A. All devices besides ACPI\TOS620A\2&DABA3FF&2 are supported with correct Drivers.

Does anyone know which device it is, for instance Bluetooth Driver?
The device Manager confirms that I have Bluetooth devices for Andoid, Generic Bluetooth and Microsoft Bluetooth.

I have downloaded and executed the exe file. I'm wondering that this exe is not displaying something like "Successfully installed" or so.

So I'm not really sure if Bluetooth is really installed and if Bluetooth is the issue.

Have a Satellite A500 that I have recently restored to factory settings from the Recovery partition and reinstalled my Win7 upgrade.

I have a couple of unknown devices in device manager and have no way of knowing what they are.
They would normally be a problem for me except I am also getting USB disconnect sounds every now and then, and warnings about USB2 devices being plugged in to a non high speed port.

I of course have nothing plugged in at the time so I expect there is some device that is malfunction and not being detected properly.

The devices I first suspected (webcam, tvtuner, touchpad) all appear in device manager normally so I am at a loss as to what's causing this.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite A500 - Unknown device - USB problem

Did I understand this correctly?

You have restored the A500 to the factory settings using the Toshiba recovery procedure and the unknown devices still appears in the device manager?

That?s strange because the Recover disk should set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase. So usually the unknown devices should not appear and all drivers should be installed properly.

However, I found an interesting and in my eyes useful HowTo document which should help you to find out which drivers are missing in your case.

I'm new to this forum but not new to using Toshiba products.
Anyway, about a couple of weeks ago I started having problems with
my USB ports in the sense that they all started to die one by one: first
the upper right, then the lower to be followed shortly by the Sata/USB combo
port on the left(kept my mouse adapter there).

I have not used anything other than the regular on my USB ports, you know memory
sticks, external HDD(I used a Toshiba StoreArt 1TB), my mouse and pretty much it.
Naturally I started looking for a solution to my problem and tried everything, except
for a BIOS update.

I don't know what else to do, so I hope smbd having dealt with the same problem
can help me restore my USB ports functionality.

I'll post some screenshots:

Answer:Unknown device under USB on my Satellite L500-1XZ notebook

Hello and welcome to Toshiba support forum.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there and give you exact diagnostic. In my opinion BIOS update is, at the moment, not necessary.
I don?t know if you have installed some additions software for usage with some external device but what you can try now is to reinstall chipset driver.

I have checked Toshiba download page and your notebook is supported for Win7 32 and 64bit so you can find it there. I wanted to post link here but I don?t know which version do you use.

Please do it at first and post some feedback.

Hi all, my problem is the following, I have a lenovo laptop z50-70, run windows 7 on it, the problem is I get this unknown device on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller, I think probably because of not working on lenovo energy manager (I've tried a bunch of different versions of this program, only one works but go half of the functions, the most important bit me "conservation mode," namely whether I turn on conservation modeactivate, nothing, as in fact is notactivated, and the other versions of this program, I disable the wifi network card, and do not delete only wifi module starts.
E any driver something to solve the unknown device (3 days all install and uninstall drivers and versions of lenovo's energy manager, but in vain), I think there is a problem, because of which the energy manager version which I didn't flunk wifinetwork card, to operate the conservation mode function?

Answer:Z5070 Unknown device ACPI Embedded Device

The Unknown Device is because the Lenovo Energy Management driver is not installed.  If you are unable to resolve problems when the Energy Management driver is installed and prefer to leave it uninstalled then just disable the unknown device in Windows Device Manager and ignore it.

1.)So my mouse(Corsair Harpoon RGB) was recently just working fine until one night i unplugged it and put it into computer and on that computer it didnt work so i went back to my laptop to plug it in there, but it showed the same problem it didnt respond the logo didn't light up so i went to the device manager and it said *title. So how do i fix this is there something with my mouse is there something with my software?
Oh yea and on top of that i have 2 more issues that i jut can't solve by myself.

2.) Unknown USB-device(port reset failed)
3.)DVD Drive(optical drive) doesnt show up on the device manager but it sounds like it's working and it opens and closes.
4.)Front ports of my PC doesnt work if i plug an USB in it doesnt do anything (it does work perfectly in the back)

I don't know though if i should make more threads but they somewhat relate to each other,
that's why they are just in 1 thread. If you need to ask any question, need pictures , my specifications or anything else just ask me.

I am running the Lenovo Ideapad y510p (the GT755m SLI version). I had my USB mouse and my flash drive connected to the 2x 3.0 USB ports (the ones on the left), everything was fine until suddenly both of them stopped working. When I try connecting the flash drive nothing happens, however, when I try connecting the USB mouse it says Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) in the device manager, windows error message "USB Device not recognized" also pops up in the bottom right corner. When I try connecting either of them (the mouse of the flash drive) to the 3rd USB port (the usb 2.0 port) they both work perfectly fine without any errors at all. I would like to know what may have caused that error and if there is any solution at all. Thanks in advance, Mersif.

I have purchased E5-573G-389U few months back. Since then I am not able to connect any of my mobiles be it Motorola or Samsung to the laptop. Everytime it says 'Unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed) driver error'.  I have tried a lot of options in your discussion forum but nothing worked. I am just fed up with the problem. I will request you to provide the solution to the said problem at the earliest. It was really a bitter experience buying this laptop.

binodpandey, That's not really an Acer issue.  That's an issue with Microsoft Windows 10 and Samsung or Motorola.  Acer doesn't have any control over Microsoft Windows 10 when it comes to supporting third party phones. Check with Microsoft forum.

One more yellow ? to go.  Thanks to the good advice rampant on this forum, I was able to figure out how to install the other drivers I needed.   This last one is messing with my mind tho.  It's unfair for a problem to not even have a name, doncha think?   About all I can fathom about this 'Unknown device' is its location:  'on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller'. I tried the driver for 'Embedded Controller' and when I double click, it takes over the computer and tells me not to shut it down and begins installing 49 fixes.  When I did it, the program got to the 21st fix, and that was as far as it would go.  I shut down the computer after about 20 minutes.  It did not remove the 'Unknown device' remark in Device Manager. What's a poor boy to do? Also, Windows is taking forever to load. This was not the case yesterday.  Thanks for all your help. 50GreenDodge in Phoenix

Answer:What is my 'Unknown device' in Device Manager? - ThinkPad T40 2374-75U

Hello, Have you tried installing the Lenovo System Update software to see if that detects any missing device drivers and offers to install it for you? The latest versions for your ThinkPad T40 Model 2374-75U can be found here on Lenovo's web site. If if that does not work, you could try going back into the Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC), selecting the Unknown Device to view its properties and then go to the Details tab, where you should see several values listed in the property sheet for things like "Device Description", "Hardware IDs",  "Compatible IDs" and so forth.  Try using these as search terms in your favorite search engine to see if doing so leads you to a more detailed description of the device, including a manufacturer, brand, model or part number. Once you have that information, it may be easier to find the appropriate device driver for the unrecognized hardware. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

My computer keeps telling me Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed), so I looked up how to fix it and they told me to uninstall it then scan for hardware changes and it will reappear working properly. Only it did not come back working properly, it came back the same. I am also 98% sure that this "unknown USB device" is my built-in webcam that has never once worked. So if someone wants to help me out and allow me to use my webcam that would be great!

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Greetings folks

I have a problem that bugs me for years, I never intentionally solved it, sometimes those errors disappears and all USB ports work fine, sometimes they do not. So anyone can help me please, it would be great.

Some of my ports do not work all the time, I cannot identify a specific moment. Inside the Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus controllers, I get 1, 2 or more "Unknown USB Device ( Device Descriptior Request Failed )", sometimes more sometimes less.

CPU: Intel Core i7 3770
Motherboard: AsROCK H77 Pro4/MVP
Windows 10 all available updates downloaded and installed as of today, and everyday. The problem appeared on Win 8 or 7, not sure when. So it's not necessarily Windows 10 specific. I ported it to 10.
Here is what they look like:

Bios is up to date. Chipset drivers updated, various solution tried from googling, I even managed to make all USB ports stop working testing some of these solutions, I had to restore windows from a ghost image I had.

It's like these USB ports remain suspended sometimes.

Any advice on what to try? The most annoying part is that from the frontal USB ports some stop working randomly too.

Thank you

EDIT: The problem is the motherboard. The computer was checked at a computer service, and it seems the time has come for it to be buried.

Hi Rostos and welcome to Ten Forums!

I would recommend two utilities. Maybe they can reveal what's going on.

USB Device tree viewer from Uwe Sieber and Nirsoft's USBDeview. They will give you info about connected devices..

After installing Windows 10 anniversary update, I get the following error in the device manger: Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Tried uninstalling and restarting PC. Reinstalled Windows made from media tool. Nothing fixed it. Did a google search and nothing has worked. No USB drivers on the PC maker's website.

Any ideas?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

You can try going into device manager > select show hidden devices and delete all "inactive" usb device appearances. In my example below, there would be four. Once done, reboot and try your device again:

I know that a similar question has been asked before but, not with the last part of the message, (Device Descriptor Request Failed). I get this, in Device Manager, and I have searched for an answer on the net. Also it is a Code 43. I went through my laptop, with an HP Technician this morning, I might add at a cost of 5p/minute, for 30 odd minutes. He has said that because I had gone over to Windows 8.1 and the recovery discs I made will not load, to put back in Windows 8. I have to send the laptop back for re-installing the OS, because Windows 8.1 do not have the update for my problem. Also the R.H. USB socket has a failure ID:0GAPTK-6T7716-MFPWWK-8D1Q03. I personally think that this is all what the problem is. a duff USB. Is this a cop-out???
My question is; has anyone heard of Windows 8.1 having driver WHQL problems?? Very.

Any/all ideas, appreciated.

ps, I only found out the problem with the usb when I tried to download a Mobi file to a Kindle for my wife. The other usb's work OK.

Answer:Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Is there only one USB port on the right hand side? Sometimes manufacturers connect internal devices via an unused USB port internally. USB ports are usually in groups of two, seeing only one port is usually a sign that the wiring has been redirected internally to something else like a Bluetooth adapter or wifi adapter. It may even be a card reader or touchpad. Is anything like that not working? If it is start looking for a driver for it.

Hi there,I recently installed Win7 Home Premium on my Dell Inspiron 1525 which previously ran WinVista Home Premium (both are 32-bit.)However, in Device Manager, there are two devices named as; Base System Device, each with an (!) mark for them. When I dig deeper to see what these devices are, I get the following name for each of them;1) PCI, bus 2, device 9, function 3 and,2) PCI, bus 2, device 9, function 4When I then look at the Physical Object's Name, I get this;1) Device\NTPNP_PCI0024 and, 2) Device\NTPNP_PCI0023I'm not really sure what is going on! I tried using Win Updates to find the drivers, but it cannot find anything. I have a feeling that they may be devices for the integrated webcam and the card reader; however, I know I installed a driver for the card reader, so I am not sure what the other device is for... :sAny help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.J

Fresh install of Windows 10 and the last driver I need to sort out is the above.

I believe it is my powered USB 3 hub to which I plug in my keyboard and mouse. Technically it is working but I don't like seeing yellow triangles on devices.

So are there any fixes?

Answer:Unknown USB Device (device descriptor request failed)

If it's a generic USB 2.0 Powered Hub then technically there's should be no drivers needed by Windows, if it's a USB 3.0 Hub then I'm unsure (since I don't own any USB 3.0 Hubs).

Might be a Windows bug, basically Windows can't find the description information to display the Hub's name in the Device Manager example: Generic USB Hub, Root Hub Device, etc....

I'm pretty sure everything is working as should, you're good minus the minor annoyance if all device connected through the USB Hub is recognized by Windows; if you right click Properties on the yellow triangle it probably says "The Device is working properly".

I have a very similar situation.

I have a windows 98se machine runnong on an Intel Celeron 600MHz with 128MB of ram.

The OS was just installed.
I am trying to instal an HP USB burner - I used this device before with no problems.

The drivers are located on a diskette. The manuf instructions advise to connect the power and usb cables and boot the pc with the diskette in the drive when windows finds the new hardware select the floppy drive.

When the pc is booted is finds new hardware lists it as "unknown device" and does not promt me for any input. If I go to device manager the device has a red x. I've tried to remove the device and reboot - same thing. I've tried to update the driver and it says the best driver is already installed c:\windows\inf\usb.inf

The ref url was resolved by changing the order of connecting the cables.....I have tried ever combo I can.
Can someone please tell me how to point to the correct drivers ?
