Strange issue with synaptics touchpad v6.2 on Satellite L30

Question: Strange issue with synaptics touchpad v6.2 on Satellite L30

I keep getting a 'bubble' come up telling me that another pointing device is overriding my touchpad, and thus I am unable to use the touchpad because it freezes / jumps / constantly displays this message.

This started 4 weeks ago (only had the laptop 7weeks) and problem is becoming progressively worse; it starts quicker and only stops when I reboot (which takes a while with Vista!)

Had no reply and really at wits end. Its soooooooooo frustrating!
I'm not great with computers, but have checked all settings & even when the pointer isn't working, it says it is working fine on its 'properties'.

None of my neighbours have wireless / bluetooth or infared pointers. At wits end.
PLEASE HELP!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

did you already tried to make a system recovery on your machine with the shipped recovery media? Maybe it would be worthy to give it a try, but if this doesn?t helps, then contact the next available service partner of toshiba and send/bring your machine to them for a hardware-checkup or a repair.

If you need some help to find the nearest available service partner in your country then check this link:

Satellite Pro P100 with Synaptics touch pad, was running Vista, now Win 7 64 bit.
The original driver had an option "disable when external pointing device connected".

I have installed a driver from Synaptics Synaptics_v14_0_3_C_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Signed_default.exe which does not have this check box.

It works fine except that sometimes the Microsoft Mouse turns off and on every few seconds as it or the touchpad fight each. I have to disable the touchpad.
Then next time I turn on. If I do so without a mouse, I cannot use the touchpad, until i plug in the mouse, reactivate, then unplug the mouse.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite Pro P100 - Synaptics touchpad issue using Win 7

Hi

Try to install the Synaptics and Alps touchpad drivers from Toshiba European driver page.
Choose the Win 7 touchpad drivers released for a satellite L500 series.

By the way; the touchpad can be enabled and disabled using the FN + F9 button combination. Its not needed to have any options if FN + F9 works fine.

I have a one month old Satellite L500-19Z operating on Windows 7 64bit.
Whilst using it to edit some photographs, it began to behave strangely. It was as if someone was rapidly depressing the mouse left button. I was unable to exit any program or use the Start Menu to reboot.

After disconnecting power, and battery, I started it in Safe Mode, but the problem was still there. If I hovered over any icon it brought the window up repeatedly. By disabling the touchpad using Fn+F9, I was able to use a graphic tablet to re-boot and it works as normal. I am reluctant to use the System Recovery or the Recovery Discs that I created when I bought it due to the number of third party programs that I would lose.

Has anyone experienced this problem please? What do I do to enable the touchpad to see if it is now working properly?
Many thanks

Answer:Strange issue with touchpad on Satellite L500-19Z

Hi

Can you enable/disable the touchpad by pressing FN+F9 as usual?

In your case I would also update the touchpad driver. You can download it here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

If an external mouse works but the touchpad still makes problems I think you should use the Toshiba recovery disk to restore factory settings. After this you have the same settings as on the first day where you bought the notebook.

Hi folks, I'm new here and hope you can help me.

I have a Satellite L750D here which has a strange Keyboard/touchpad issue.

Recently my screen has been replaced and I toke the opportunity to replace the DD with a SDD.

I used the OS restore cd's which I created from the recovery partition and completely reinstalled Windows 7 64-Bit from those.

Everything seemed to work well until after the last reboot.

Then my after reboot, the keyboard wasn't working and neither the touchpad.
I tried rebooting / shutting down and starting again, no change.

I connected an USB keyboard and mouse, both work perfectly.

I reinstalled the touchpad drivers from the Toshiba website, still no change.

I then closed the lid and let the notebook go into sleepmode/hibernation and found that when I opened the lid/screen, that the keyboard was working again, but not the touchpad.

Fn-F9 made no difference.

I then pressed the button above the touchpad, but the touchpad remained dead. But after pressing that button, the keyboard went dead too!!?
Switching the button for the touchpad on/off made no difference, both keyboard and touchpad remained dead.

Rebooting made no difference either.

Throwing away the drivers in safe-mode led the drivers to be reinstalled, but both keyboard and touchpad remained dead.

The only thing to bring the keyboard back to life is closing the lid and going to sleepmode/hibernation and reawakening the notebook.

But press the button above ... Read more

Answer:Satellite L750D - Strange Keyboard/touchpad issue

I connected an USB keyboard and mouse, both work perfectly.

This is really strange… from my point of few, if the external keyboard and mouse works properly, then the controller should be OK, and this would mean that the malfunction must be related to the faulty keyboard / touchpad.

But at the other hand, you said that the keyboard works properly booting from Linux Live CD.
To me this makes no sense and I’m confused…

Anyway, since the notebook has been disassembled in order to replace the screen and other parts, I think something went wrong during this procedure and probably a part was affected…

In my opinion it’s advisable to replace the keyboard and to check if it will fix the issue.

Is there a real fix for the Touchpad? I went through an hour with HP support, who told me I had viruses and sent me to a fee-based support. I cleared my system myself and re-installed the driver, no luck. Finally just disabled the Touchpad and used a wired mouse. Issue solved.

Dear Team, I have recently upgraded the drivers for Synaptics touchpad on my HP laptop (HP Pavilion G4-2049Tx).Everytime I reboot my machine, or "Log On" Synaptics touchpad gestures doesn't seem to work ever since the drivers upgrade. In order that the gestures start working; I have to manually launch any Synaptics related process after log on.To my surprise; Synaptics is already a part of StartUp processes in my Windows OS still it doesn't get triggered at the time of boot. On the top of that; as always I have been facing overheating issues at the time of charging my laptop since quite a long.It becomes impossible to rest the "laptop" on ones "lap" while its getting charged. Kindly help me solve these issues. Thanks in advance!Cheers,Ameya

It seems like the Windows 8.1 will NOT remember my choice of disabling the Synaptics touchpad.Everytime after a restart, the touchpad is activated by default. In previous version of Windows (e.g. Win7), my touchpad is always disabled even after a restart. This is very annoying and I can't update the stock driver from Synaptics as it doesn't recognize the touchpad on Y50.Lenovo, please release a bug fix!

Hello,

I'm havin some issues with my synaptics touchpad. FIrst of all i think that overall precision is not very good.
Most of the time getting to a specific point is not easy and i need to make adjustments that are not needed.
One thing that MIGHT cause imprecision is the fact that the 2 click buttons are part of the touchpad and when u use them u might move the pointer a bit. Is there a way to exclude the buttons from the touchpad sliding and draggin etc.?

A weird aspect is that i got pointer speed (hope its the proper translation) at high value and it actually moves fast but when im dragging or moving objects in games or in graphics programs it gets slow...any idea on how to fix this?

Previously i had an old Tecra from 2010 but even though the touchpad was small i had no problems at all with precision and accuracy. Maybe fancy settings make things worse :P

Answer:Synaptics touchpad settings on Satellite L50-B

What to say about all this. For well working touchpad is important to have installed right driver. After driver installation hardware will be recognized properly.
Functionality is controlled with different options. There are standard Windows options and also additional options offered as small application designed by touchpad driver manufacturer.

All offered options allow notebook user to make best own touchpad configuration. Touchpad functionality is tested, so it should be OK.
All you can do is optimize touchpad functionality using offered options. Not more than that and as far as I know there are no some special “tricks” to change something.

How touchpad works n some third part applications like games is not east to test so check if certain game has some additional option where you can change mouse sensitivity or anything else.

By the way: do you use original preinstalled OS that you got with your machine?

Hi,I just bought a U410 with Windows 8.I'm experiencing a major issue with Synaptics Touchpad enhancements. But without any sucess. I've tries to uninstall Synaptics Touchpad enhancements and reinstall it. Again without any sucess.I would really appreciate if someone could help me with that. Not having any scroll down or any other synaptics option is a real problem for me.Thanks in advance!

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad enhancements issue

I had this same problem. I received my U410 two days ago, and today the touchpad started losing functionality. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Synaptics driver from Lenovo's website, but this didn't fix the problem (any of the three times I tried it). Finally I downloaded and installed the driver straight from Synaptics, and voila! There are more customizable options with this version of the driver, too, including edge scrolling. http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers I hope it works for you too!

Everything works fine except the Synaptics TouchPad and the FN key. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Answer:Satellite A210: Synaptics TouchPad and the FN key in Win 7 don't work

Hi

You need to install the touchpad driver, VAP and Toshiba Flash Card Support Utility.
I?ve got the A210 too and I have chosen all Win 7 drivers which were released for the Satellite L500 series.

This worked properly

Hello,
I recently reinstalled my touchpad driver because they had stoped working for some reason.
And Ow ow surprise.
Now the "fn+F5" hotkey doesn't work anymore, but I can enable/disable my touchpad by double taping the top left corner. OK why not.
What's annoying me is the really bright white led indicating when the touchpad is disabled. It really attracts the eyes.

Is there a way to disable it please ? (even if it means disabling the "double tap corner" shortcut, and find a way to reinstall the "fn+F5" shortcut)

Just deactivate the automatic launch of "SynTPEnch.exe"
EDIT: it seems to randomly launch itself anyway .... I think I'm gonna uninstall it and stay with the generic windows touchpad driver

Hi - the touchpad has simply stopped working after the last couple of rounds of Windows updates and I didn't note which one, so not sure if I have a suitable restore point.

Tried downloading latest drivers from Toshiba website and it makes no difference. Also tried uninstalling these and installing the Elan drivers and these didn't install properly at all. I found some slightly older Synaptics drivers 17.0.10.1, which one of my other PCs runs ok on and although they installed ok, the touchpad does nothing. I'm relying on an external mouse, which is less than ideal.

Worryingly, the Toshiba website says it doesn't recognise my PC's serial number, yet it was bought in the UK through Asda online. All help and ideas welcome...

The touchpad has been disabled? why? I guess some Microsoft updates disabled the touchpad.

Hey guys again!

When I set up a new operation system sometimes (vista, 7) I always installed the Synaptics Pointing Device. And then, my Genius Ergo 725 Laser mouse driver was installed.
After these steps I turned on the "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" in Synaptics, so when I used my mouse, the touchpad didn't work, and when I disconnected my mouse I could use the touchpad. It?s normal I know.
It worked fine for a few weeks as I connected and disconnected.

BUT now
when I disconnect my mouse, I can't use my touchpad, it's simply not working, and if I connect my mouse again, my mouse doesn't work too. So I can't use my touchpad & mouse, just navigate with keyboard. I tried to uninstall & reinstall Synaptics and genius drivers, but nothing.

Also when this happens, I just restart my computer but when it's "shutting down" it freezes and doesn't restart or shut down. So I have to push the power button for a few sec.
If I don't disconnect my mouse while my OS running, or don't connect my mouse while OS is running, I can shut down and restart computer normally....
Now I have Windows 7 x86, but it happened with my Vista x86 too...

Strange problems, but I hope you can help!
Thanks forward.

This is a first time that I meet such issue?
I think it?s a OS issue? maybe something has been muddled up? updates? who knows?

I think firstly you should try to remove the touchpad drivers and software from the system and should clean the registry. I clean my registry using the CCleaner. It?s free tool.

After registry has been cleaned, reinstall the needed touchpad drivers and check if you can use the touchpad.

I hare recently upgradedmy Toshiba Satellite L855-149 to the most recent windows 8 version 6.2 and since I have done so the Synaptics touch pad has stopped working, I presume because the driver does not work with this version of windows 8. What can i do to resolve this problem so that i can use my computer without a plug in mouse again?

Thanks,
Simon

Answer:Satellite L855-149 - Synaptics touchpad not working after Win 8 upgrade

Hi Simon !!
I have just clean installed windows pro 8 on my satellite r830 and i had the same problem (actually, the touchpad still worked but not the scrollbars).
What you need to do is download the driver via this website, unzip it and execute it. It will work just fine. Locate it under 'windows 7 64 Bit' (or 32 Bit, depending on your OS) and not 'Windows 8 - Upgrade' as synaptics still hasn't realized a specific driver to windows 8.
Use the assistant on the website to find the proper driver faster (the reference of the model is written on the back of the laptop)
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp
So far, it's the only driver that i have installed. However, the button near the touchpad that activates or deactivates it still doesn't work. Maybe it will work again when i install the other drivers.
I hope this can help you ;)

Hello,

how can I disable tapping on a A210-103 with a Synaptics touchpad.
Tapping means to me that when I touch the touchpad the notebook translate it under circumstances as a mouse click which I don't want.

In the German settings I have found nothing like "tapping".

Answer:How can I disable tapping on Satellite A210-103 with a Synaptics touchpad

Hello Hans Juergen

Of course you can disable the ?tapping?.

I assume you want to disable this ?tapping? and instead of tapping you want to use the both touchpad buttons. Am I right?

This can be disabled in;
Control Panel -> Mouse -> last tab called ?Device Settings? (or similar).
There you have to choose ?Settings? of Synaptics TouchPad

The new window should open and there you could find many different details and settings.
You have to mark the second option ?tapping?. It?s under the point ?overview?.
There you have uncheck the option ?enable tapping?

That?s all ;)

My synaptics touchpad is not working correctly my mouse is working fine but the corners from the touchpad for special functions isn't working at all.

I tried to configure it again but this had no result, also i downloaded a new driver but this had no result to. My buttons keys for multimedia like play/pause or stop aren't working either.

These buttons/keys stopped working at the same time as the touchpad. Checked for viruses with NOD 32 pro and for spyware with ZA pro==> no results.

Who can help me with this problem???

Answer:Synaptics touchpad is not working properly on Satellite A100-635

Hi there,

just a little question: when did they stopped working? Did you installed some software or some similar stuff like tools or something?
If not, then backup your data and make a system recovery. It should be a good way to find out, if it?s just an software problem or a serious hardware problem.

I suggest you to recover your system and then give a feedback if it worked, because if you already tried a new driver, you won?t have many choices.

Laptop is an Acer Aspire 4730z with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, fully updated to current.

I installed an update to Avast's engine, and after rebooting, when I got to the Windows logon screen, both the mouse buttons on both the built-in Synaptics touchpad and an external USB mouse will only select an item, but nothing else happens. In other words, if I click on a user account, it selects it but it doesn't allow me to enter a password. Likewise, if I click on the shutdown icon at the lower right of the screen, it just selects it but nothing else happens.

But, I found that if I hit the tab key and then the enter key to select something on this screen, then the left mouse button starts working again on the touchpad and the USB mouse..

When I get into windows, the left mouse button on both the built-in touchpad and the external mouse continue to work, but the right mouse button on the built-in touchpad doesn't work. However, the right mouse button on the USB mouse works.

I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this:
- uninstalled Avast (I'm now using MSE as the anti-virus on this machine)
- uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for both mouse devices multiple times, using different versions (for the touchpad, one set of drivers from Acer, another set from Synaptics)
- uninstalled the Synaptics device from device manager and let windows reinstall it upon reboot
- updated the drivers within device manager (it didn't find any that were more curr... Read more

Hello, I just bought a new Spectre x360 (13-4101dx, pre-loaded with Windows 10) and I'm having issues with the Synaptics touchpad. After a Windows update, the driver was updated to version 19.0.12.95.  I have reverse scrolling disabled but for some applications, the two finger scrolling is still reversed. Applications like Google Chrome and Device Manager work fine, the reverse scrolling is disabled. However, for applications like Windows settings, Microsoft Edge, and pretty much everything Windows-related, it seems to be permanently reversed. Also, every time I restart my laptop, all of the settings are reverted back to default. Now, on my HP Envy 15-j000, I have the same driver (19.0.12.95) and I don't face the same issues with reverse scrolling being "permanent" on Windows-related applications. However, the settings do still reset itself after every reboot. How can I fix this? Will Synaptics be releasing a fixed driver for this or am I just missing something? I absolutely hate reverse scrolling and only a small handful of my applications actually run with it disabled...

Answer:Spectre x360 (13-4101dx) Synaptics Touchpad Issue

I have this same issue with my HP OMEN using driver 19.0.12.95, windows update says this is the latest driver. Scrolling remains inverted in some apps/settings.  I fixed this issue by reverting to an older driver (18.1.30.2), scrolling is now uniform. Kinda annoying that I had to fix it this way, but I had to go the HP Omen driver/support page and download the driver for the synaptics touchpad (even though HP's website insists you use Windows update for Windows 10). I then had to install the old driver, go into device manager and roll back the driver to 18.1.30.2 - you have to do this otherwise Win 10 will just use the latest driver. After that you can change the setting in the synaptics clickpad settings and it will be uniform. This was what worked for me.

Here is my tragic history.I bought my Y500 about 2 month ago. From the begging i was experience the touchopad issue. It was very big issue when you have to send your brand new laptop to the SERVICE and wait for it some more time... but on the other hand i was satisfied that the issue is common and will be quickly fixed. And there was first dissapointment...I call Lenovo in Poland and "TECHNICAL ENGINEER" said me that he doesn't know about any issue with touchpad. OK - now one knowes everything... then the "ENGINEER" said me to try reinstall the drivers ( it was very strange because the laptop was brand new...) and after he provide me an RMA numer to send laptop to the service. Second dissapointment...After few days i receive my laptop and looks that the ELAN hw was change to Synaptics. Hello all.

I see from previous posts that this issue has been addressed in some way or another a few times and I have tried several of the fixes, and have had no success.

1. I have a toshiba L300 next to me(girlfriends), and this feature works fine. V annoying!!
2. I have never been able to enable the scrolling. I know where the setting are and have tried to check/uncheck the boxes/ press 'apply' then ok and the other way around.
3. I have re-installed the drivers from toshiba(synaptics).
4. I have updated the bios from tempro. Although I only registed for tempro recently, the dates on the list of updates seemed fairly old. ie. not much new stuff available anyway.

Thats where im at!
All advice would be apreciated.
Also, are Realtec drives related with the touchpad in some way??
Cheers Phill
I have about a month left on the warranty, so hopefully this would be something that may be covered if no-one can help.

Answer:Satellite Pro A210 touchpad synaptics cannot enable virtual scrolling.

Hello

In my opinion everything you already done is right and I?m really out of idea what you can try except most radical solution ? OS installation with recovery CD/DVD. After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again. As far as I know virtual scrolling is enabled by default and it should work after first start.

So doing this you can make the ?ultimate test? and be sure if this function works or not.

Hi,

I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite A100.
I was wondering where I could download a driver for Synaptics touchpad that works?

I tried the generic drivers from Synaptics' website, but they do not install completely (the second component always fails to install).
Then I tried the ones from Toshiba's website, but The Vista-compatible ones display an error that says error code "#5B4 @10".

Then I tried The Windows XP-compatible drivers, and they work perfectly, except the fact that I cannot configure enhanced features such as virtual scrolling and tap zones.
I click on the icon in the tray, click on The Device Settings tab, and whenever I click on The Settings button nothing happens.

Any help?

Answer:Satellite A100: Where to get a working Synaptics touchpad driver for Vista?

Hi

Usually the driver from the Toshiba page should be fully valid and should works.
Please note that there are different A100 series and if you download any drivers, be sure that you choose the right drivers for the right notebook series.

Did you check if the touchpad settings can be set and changed in the control panel??
As far as I know the touchpad properties can be set in the ?Mouse? option which can be found in the control panel!!!

In the ?Device settings? tab you should select the ?synaptics touchpad? and press ?settings?.
New window will pop up and you will find many options controlling the touchpad settings!!!

bye

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 running 32 bit Vista, and I used to be able to scroll with the touchpad, however, it doesn't seem to be working any longer. Also, in the synaptics pointing device program, I am unable to configure actions to the left and right buttons. I checked apoint.exe and it seems to be working fine...does anyone know what may be causing this or how to fix it? What should I be reinstalling? It's very annoying and I'd like to be able to scroll without holding the button and dragging. Thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 Notebook - Synaptics Touchpad Not Scrolling?

It could be a hardware issue.

I had similar problems w/ notebook - mousepad had to be replaced.

You could try to un-install all drivers in Device Manager then re-boot. Vista will re-install. Also make sure to go to OEM site and get updated driver - if available.

Note that you will lose mouse function completely after un-install. Have USB mouse or b/c familar with CTRL-ALT-DEL that will get you to screen so you can use arrow keys to restart system

Hi,

I have a Satellite A210, its about 3 months old now.
At the beginning when i tapped the top right hand corner of the mouse pad it turned a bright blue colour and i was able to use it to control the volume and open up to 6 areas with one touch.

However for the past month or so, for no apparent reason it no longer works, all i can do with it now is tap in the top right corner to expand a window and tap in the bottom left to minimize a window.

Can anyone help explain why this is?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as its very frustrating.

Thanks

Hello

Such issues are not possible to explain because nobody here knows what you have done with your notebook. As fast solution you can try to roll back your OS to earlier time using System Restore tool.

Try it. Maybe it will work again. Please inform us about results.

Hello, ASRR here.

I've been having a problem with my Synaptics touchpad driver since yesterday. I am very used to using the "gestures" to work with my touchpad and the gestures haven't worked properly (in fact at all) for a while. The two-finger scrolling, the three-finger touch and others (actually all of the gestures) do not work anymore.

The cursor moves, and works fine but the gestures don't.

When I go to the Mouse option in the Control Panel, a window pops up stating that the PC is "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver." and asks me whether I want to uninstall it.

I have tried uninstalling it, then going on the support page for Toshiba and downloading a driver that was suitable for my model, operating system, etc.

When I set up the driver I downloaded and restart the PC, the same window pops up when I try and go to the Mouse options in the Control Panel and the gestures do not work.

One interesting thing I noticed however, is the fact that when I roll back the driver (in the Hardware properties- then settings) the gestures work FINE. However, as it always asks you to restart the computer in order for the Rolling back of the driver to take place, when I do restart it, it sets the Microsoft touchpad driver from 2006; which does not include the gestures I need.

I have tried multiple times to fix it but I can't. I went to the UEFI firmware set up and tried resetting it to default but with no success.

How to understand this? Have you tried to set your notebook to ?factory settings? again?
To be honest I don't understand what is wrong there. I also thought that new driver installation may help but obviously there is no much help.

I don't know if this is an option for you but you can set notebook to factory settings again and I hope everything will be work properly again. Before you do this try also to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore option.

One more thing: it has nothing to do with your touchpad issue but I recommend you to create recovery media (recovery image back-up) using preinstalled recovery media creator.

Hey,

I received a notification of an upgrade on the synaptics touch pad installed on my A200-1m4 notebook and after installing it the touchpad wouldn't respond well, so I rolled back the driver, but it wouldn't use the scroll option. I reinstalled the driver again, but still I couldn't use the scroll function.

On the icon in the taskbar, when I want to see the pressue graph accessory it gives me this msg *Sorry, this program requires a Synaptics TouchPad and the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver* I believe I am missing the second one, so can anyone let me know where I can find the installation file for it.

Thanks Very much in advance,
Leen

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad and Pointing Device Driver missing on Satellite A200?

Hi

This Satellite A200-1M4 belongs to the PSAE0E series and you have to choose this series number for a driver download.

On the Toshiba European driver page you can find the *Alps Electric Touch Pad driver*. (This driver allows you to set the properties and functions for mouse control) and
the *Synaptics Touch Pad driver* (This driver allows you to set the properties and functions for Touch Pad control).

Both must be installed!!!

If this doesn?t help then try to roll back the OS to the early time point (before you have updated the driver for the first time)

Bye

I decided to upgrade my XP 32bit to Vista x64 Ultimate on my A100 PSAAR.
OS works perfectly except one thing - touchpad, which used to work perfectly in XP, doesn't response at all under Vista x64 (with SP1 of course).

Worse thing is, that my (Synaptics) touchpad is listed in Device Manager as a properly working. Hmm - not to my recollection. Answering your potential suggestions - I tried reinstalling it, I tried using drivers from A200 (since Toshiba doesn't support drivers for Vista x64 for A100 line) and even got latest drivers from Synaptics website. Even Vista update got me new drivers - cool, I admit but it still doesn't work, although Windows does not seem to "know" about it... any help would be much appreciated :)

PS (optional problem) I also have 2 unknown devices according to Device Manager - since I have no idea what they are and because of the fact that I do not feel like I am missing anything - I simply gave up on those - at least for now ;)

Answer:Satellite A100 PSAAR: Synaptics touchpad not working on Vista Ultimate x64

Obviously nobody here has solution for you. :(

Problem is that this notebook model is not supported for Vista 64-bit. I really don't know what you can try. Maybe to install driver designed for A300?

I really don't know. Can you use external mouse successfully?

Welcome Toshiba,

I've tested this inside out, thats why the statement places in the subject looks like that. After upgrading bios from 3.00 to 3.50 the touchpad looses its accuracy. Its very unpleasant and useless that way.

I tried different drivers, everything, but the only way to really solve this problem was to downgrade it back to 3.00 OR uninstall Synaptics driver completely. Second solution, unfortunately is unacceptable, because then I loose control over a couple features, like click on touch, which I dont use and like.

Answer:Satellite U400-PSU40E Synaptics touchpad problem after recent BIOS upgrade

Hi buddy

I?ve got U400 and the BIOS has been updated to the newest one.
The touchpad is working like a dream. I?m using the Vista and Win XP and there are NO troubles after BIOS update!

In your case this can be only a software issue and I think you could use the Toshiba recovery disk and could reinstall the whole OS from the Toshiba disk?

This is a really radical workaround because the whole HDD would be formatted but if the reinstallation of both touchpad drivers didn?t help then I think this would be the last solution.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

Hey guys,

I bought a Satellite P50 the other day and I noticed something annoying pretty fast.

Whenever I am using the keyboard the touchpad stops working. Now I understand it probably does this so that people don't accidentally touch the pad while typing, but as this makes playing video games (which use wasd to move) quite difficult, I really want to disable this feature.

I've tried updating to latest drivers and going to Mouse Properties and Device settings and looking in the properties but I can't seem to find what I need to disable.

I've tried searching on the web but doing the above is all I really got.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite P50 - Annoying Synaptics Mousepad issue

>Whenever I am using the keyboard the touchpad stops working

You mean while typing?

There is a option called ?Hide pointer while typing?
In my case I could enable and disable this option in:
Control panel -> mouse -> pointer options -> ?Hide pointer while typing?

There is also another option called ?Disable internal pointing device (touchpad) when external USB pointing device (USB mouse) is attached?

If this option is checked, the touchpad would not work if you would use the USB mouse.
This can be found in:
Control panel -> mouse -> device settings

The Yoga is my 1st Windows machine in years. Coming from various MacBook(s) Pro(s) I dearly miss the capabilities and configurability of Apple's multitouch touchpad. While responsibility of the Synaptics device is fairly decent I haven't found an experience that is anything close to the one perceived on the MacBook touchpad. Latter in combination with BetterTouchTool is my weapon of choice when it comes to productivity. It offers almost unlimited configurability, that is, I can design/configure any gesture I desire and link it to a keystroke for instance. It's just perfect since I am not into Apple's predefined gesture settings at all. Now I have spent endless hours in getting this back on my new Yoga. At least I am now able to use 3 finger swipes for back/forward navigation. However, this is just a fraction of what I need/want. That's why I am looking for a way to either be able to modify the driver myself (open source, Lenovo/Synaptics?) or get access to an API I can build on. Obviously I'd prefer latter option. Synaptics is touting their Gesture Suite but I cannot find a download somewhere. I'm afraid it's OEM only. And if that's the config app that comes with the standard Synaptics driver it's just pathetic. So does anyone have a clue on how we can significantly improve the performance of this otherwise very nice laptop? Thanks in advance, stfn

hi stfn-64,my personal opinion on this case, i don't think either lenovo or synaptics will share the main source codes with you or anyone else.at this point, i suggest you to try to update drivers synaptics. it may solve your issue.hope this helps.

Click "Close" and then "OK"

This will Disable the Anti-Palm detection which prevents simultaneous Keyboard and Mouse use. I recommend you re-enable this feature when you're not gaming as otherwise you risk problems while typing.

I recently encountered a problem with the synaptics touchpad. It started when I first used the USB mouse. When the laptop came out of sleep the left button behaved like the right button i.e. bringing up the context menu. Sometimes the left button behaved properly after the lid is opened but only 10% of the time.

I've downloaded the latest driver with no success. Anyone experienced the same problem? The external mouse buttons work fine. Using Vista Home Premium.
Thanks for any help.

Hi

To be honest I?ve never ever seen something like that.
Of course you can switch the primary and secondary buttons but I never heard that this could switch automatically?

Anyway, I think you should check if this switch option was not enabled.

Go to the *control panel -> mouse -> buttons tab*

There you should unmark (disable) the option called ?switch the primary and secondary buttons?.

Maybe it helps?

I have a problem which is driving me to distraction.

Unless I'm staring at the touchpad when I do it, about 60% of the time I try to
left-click with the touchpad, I right-click it by mistake. I'm not sure whether this
is because the touchpad is offset so far to the left compared with the other
laptop I use, a Thinkpad, or what.

Anyway, the only way I think I can carry on using this machine is if I can
somehow change the settings so that wherever I click on the touchpad
it interprets it as a left-clift - I'd be quite happy to use the RH Windows key
to get context menus, etc.

Can I do this and how?

I'm using Win10 Pro 64-bit if that makes any difference.

TIA, Martyn

Hello,

I'm having a stange problem with the touchpad of my Toshiba Satellite C70-A-14M.
After a few seconds of the start menu/desktop loading up, the functionality of the touchpad automatically switches from the normal free-moving cursor to only selecting the various tiles/menu bars etc. that are accessible on-screen.

The cursor freezes, but the touchpad and buttons still work, however they are only able to switch between the various objects on the screen that are capable of being selected, vastly reducing the functionality of the laptop.

I have tried the usual trick of turning my laptop off and on again, with no results.
The laptop is about two months old, so there is no new touchpad device driver to which I can upgrade, and I am unable to un- or re-install the existing one.

I have not yet tried a system restore, as I don't want to loose the programmes that I have downloaded and go through the hassle of re-installing them unless there is no other option.

So, what should I do next? Any help and advice would be much appreciated!

I guess you are describing the gesture feature (Modern Touch Pad)

I think you should check this document / workaround how to change some Synaptic touchpad settings.

[How to change the Synaptic touchpad settings in Windows 8?|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD3101Z30000R01.htm]

I guess there you would find the settings to enable or disable the gesture feature.

I recently had major problems with my Satellite A200-AH6 PSAE0C notebook after I did a BIOS flash. I brought it in, got it repaired, and everything is running normally.

However, there are 2 problems which I cannot seem to figure out.

The first issue is with the volume control -- the scroll for the volume works fine, but the display bar does not show up on my screen indicating volume level. This is NOT a major issue at all, but I'd like to know if someone knows a solution to it. Maybe a missing .dll?

The 2nd issue (VERY IMPORTANT) is with the touchpad -- the scroll on the right side of it does not work anymore. I cannot find any problem with it, and I compared it to my brother's laptop (exact same kind) and it is identical. I assume there is a missing driver....please, someone help with this issue. It is critical that I can scroll up and down, because using Page Up and Page Down is just too annoying.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite A200 Touchpad Issue

Well just go to the toshiba drivers section, put your laptop model and look for the touchpad driver and install it to see if then the scroll works. (Don't know if it's the same for all toshiba laptops but if your laptop has the alps or something like that touchpad driver then install that one instead of synaptics)

Hey Guys,

I've been having an on and off issue with my touchpad for at least a couple of months now. I've tried doing the function +F9 thing with little effect. I also re-downloaded the synaptics driver which seems to make it work for a little while but then it started working only sporadically.

Currently my touchpad works some of the time, if it fails at first pressing Ctrl Alt Del and then Esc seems to make it work for a little while longer but after that it simply stops working. I'm a student and not having a fully functioning laptop is often a great hindrance so any help would be great.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660 - on and off issue with the Touchpad

Hi

My first question is: when did you notice this touchpad issue.

I mean, the Sat Pro C660 is an older notebook and if this issue did not appear from first day of purchase, then something has affected the touchpad functionality in the past.

The question is: is there something wrong with software or maybe touchpad module.
I think this can be answered only settings the notebook back to factory state.
If you recover the notebook using Toshiba recover disk, you will get exactly the same state like at the first day of purchase.

If touchpad would still not work properly, well then there is some hardware problem

The mouse, out of nowhere, starts to go to the right or to the left and there is nothing to do to remove it from the place. Sometimes it stops and others doesn't. This problem prevents us from working. It has nothing to do with the mouse (we tried several) or with docking station because it happens without the docking station.

I have Satellite C55-A-1R8, using Windows 8.1.
The Synaptics touchpad has always given some unpredictable results, whatever setings I have used or cancelled.

For example, it suddeny loses the ability to receive a double click, even though the icon still has 'tap to click' ticked; when I do click it, the cursor flies off into the top right corner of the screen and is difficult to control again.

The buttons continue to work normally, though, But if I sleep or hibernate the computer things are normal again immediately it wakes.
Also, the pad often picks up and moves icons/files without double clicking. I installed the most recent Synaptics driver update, but no change.

However, I am told that the casework on this model is so thin that fingers resting on it below the keyboard can interfere with the touchpad commands, and am beginning to suspect that this might be the reason for some of the odd behaviour.

If it is, can I insulate it with anything to prevent this happening?

Answer:Satellite C55-A-1R8 - Touchpad interference issue

Have you tried to reduce mouse sensitivity?

Since when have you noticed such strange touchpad behaviour? From the first day maybe?

I don't think it is the best solution for you but maybe you should reinstall operating system using original recovery image and test he touchpad functionality with “factory settings”.
If the problem persists it could be some hardware related issue so you can contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Question: Synaptics Touchpad

Hi. I'm having a problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000's touchpad. Recently (i.e. Today) it has been giving me an error and shutting down a program called "Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements", which has the adverse effects of slowing down the touchpad's sensitivity, and making the scroll bar on the side of the pad useless. Restarting solves this problem, but it occurs again after perhaps thirty minutes or so. I've already tried redownloading the drivers for it, but it hasn't solved the problem. In addition, upon selecting the mouse via the Control Panel, I'm confronted with this error. This problem has me stumped. Can anyone shed some light on what I could do to solve this?

dont format. use a different comp, download (savepe) its a recovery program. you can run chkdsk from there. it will load its own drivers. savepe is a live xp cd.

Question: Synaptics TouchPad

I have a Synaptics TouchPad v11.0.7 on my HP Pavilion dv6000. I prefer a higher sensitivity on the pad, so I change the pointer options. However, after I restart my computer, the preferences reset to default. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver but the same thing continues. This is getting very irritating. I have no other mouse drivers on my computer and I am at a loss for a solution. I would much appretiate any help.

Hello,

I have a new U920t-102 which I am very happy with, but I have this issue with the mousepad's right click (meaning the 'button' the user is able to press on the bottom-right side of the mousepad): sometimes it actually works as a right click, sometimes it works as a left click.
This is annoying especially during web navigation: I'm used to right click on links and open them in a new tab, but when the right click acts as left, I loose the current web page.

I tried to figure out what this behaviour depends on, looking at the animated synaptic icon in windows' tray bar while playing with the left and right click; if I continuosly press the right click button on the mousepad, after some repetitions it will consistely and correctly work as right click, but if press the left click once or more than once, the right click button works as left click for some pressures, and then 'corrects' itself and start again to work correctly.

Any idea/suggestion? is it a hardware problem?

Marco

Answer:Satellite U920t-102 touchpad right click issue

Usually the touchpad right / left click can be configured in the Synaptics settings.
Right click on Synaptics icon in tray and point to devices properties.
In buttons tab you will be able to choose right handed scheme or left handed.
Here you could choose the scheme appropriate for you.

You can also try to uninstall the Synaptics touchpad driver and could test the touchpad functionality without the usage of additional touchpad software.

But if this doesn’t help, your might have hardware problem

Hi,

I have a Satellite A350D-122 laptop. I'm experiencing 2 issues I can't resolve.
- At some point, the touchpad scroll feature stops functionning. It simply deactivate itself and the only way to reactivate it is to reboot the computer.
- The picture on the webcam is dark. It's like there was no light at all in the room, the only thing that comes out are the light sources. I've tried to change the options but nothing changes on the screen.

I tried re-installing the drivers but the issues stills remain.

Regards,
Philippe

Answer:Re: Satellite A350 - Touchpad and webcam issue

Hello

1.I would try a touchpad driver update. Maybe something has muddled up the driver or something else so the virtual scroll function stop working. You can download a newer version on official Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

After touchpad driver installation make sure that virtual scrolling function is enabled in touchpad driver options of control panel.

2.I think that?s the perfect article for you:

Hi

can someone please help me out, my touch pad was working fine last week, however when logging back into my machine the device would not work. I have located the device under hidden devices in device manager.

I have attempted to reinstall the drivers but keep getting the error message of the device may not be available, or some drivers may be missing. Any help that can be provided with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I've a Satellite P300-1AN notebook and since the beginning (two weeks)
I have a touchpad issue: it is not immediately responsive and the pointer trembles when touching the pad. Very often it freezes for just one or two seconds.

This is VERY annoying. A USB mouse works perfectly.
I tried reinstalling ALPS drivers, tried Synaptics ones, tried just Windows Vista drivers: no way.

Now I have found the reason: this issue is present only when the notebook is powered by AC adapter.
With battery the touchpad is perfect.

I contacted Toshiba Service and thay said that they won't change the AC adapter if I don't try before a complete system restore!
Isn't it simpler just try with a new adapter and only then, if the problem persists, try more drastic procedures?

Has anyone had this same issue?

Answer:Satellite P300-1AN - Touchpad issue with AC adapter

> I contacted Toshiba Service and thay said that they won't change the AC adapter if I don't try before a complete system restore! Isn't it simpler just try with a new adapter and only then, if the problem persists, try more drastic procedures?

The point is that your notebook should be always checked using the Toshiba factory configuration.
Why? Because the ASP wants to be sure that this issue is not related to a software problem (compatibility issue with 3rd party applications). The software issues are not covered by warranty.

Furthermore the ASP will always recover the notebook before checking any hardware parts for a malfunction. Therefore you should always backup your data from the HDD before you will send the notebook for checking.

I would recommend to reinstall the OS using the Toshiba recover disk and then check if the issue would appears.
If yes then you can contact the ASP again and could provide all details which are necessary for an technician.

Bye

Hello, I'm a very experienced user and am extremely frustrated with the mouse pad on my brand new Tosh S50.

I am constantly finding the 'charms' bar appearing on the right hand side of the screen and the clock on the bottom left - for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

The mouse pointer can be in the middle of the screen and still it happens.
I do not believe I have a faulty mouse pad, I recon it's just a design flaw.

To approximate how often this happens, I would say that with every 5 minutes of use the charms bar appears for no reason about 20 times - it's incredibly frustrating and distracts me from my work. I could disable the touchpad and use a mouse but that's not the point I need this working!!

Anyone with any suggestions, or should I ask for a refund and buy something else?

Simon

Answer:Satellite S50-A-10V: touchpad issue - charm bar slides out

Hi

I think you are unaware of additional touchpad functionality and features.
The touchpad seems to support additional gesture (multi touch). This additional touchpad function can be useful in case you want to control some notebook function directly.

I recommend you reading the user manual (page 48) there you will find details about touchpad.
For example the gesture ?swipe? (quickly move the finger in from left the edge of the touchpad) show you recently opened apps. The swipe from right opens the Charm bar (search, share, start, devices, settings)

So this _is definitely NOT touchpad problem_ but the additional feature.

Hi.

Suddenly my touchpad has developed a mind of its own.
If I hover on something for a couple of seconds it is as though I have clicked on it.

It's really annoying as I've been deleting things I don't want to delete, selecting programs I don't want to select etc.etc.

I have looked at the Synaptics settings & can't find anything that may resolve the problem, although I am totally thick when it comes to anything like this.
If anyone can offer a solution which even I can understand I will be really, truly grateful.

Many thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A200 - Touchpad sensitivity issue

Hello

All you can do is to check all these settings, especially change the sensitivity level in hope this behaviour will stops.
Other way I don't see other was as to visit Toshiba service.

Is external mouse usage solution for you? I mean you can completely disable touchpad with FN+F9 and use external mouse.

Just had delivery of a new Tosh T110-107 which I have to say looks wonderful, however a problem. One bootup the touchpad works ok but as soon as I connect the USB mouse then neither work - making the system unusable, until I disconnect the mouse and reboot. SO what have I done to it?

Uninstalled McAfee and addded Norton 360 and Office (both originals) and thats it, the problem was found before anything was done - as it came out of the box.

Win7 Home Premium, never had problems with Win7 but then not used it on a laptop especially this model. Can only imagine its config/software but straight out of the box? Tosh must know there is a problem them - they have too, yet sold it?

ANyone else had this issue?

Answer:Satellite T110-107 - Touchpad / mouse issue

Ah answer my own question, mouse at fault, once the wheel is moved it all works, but one has to continuously move it or it don't work. Turns out the mouse was not part of the package, so my apologies to Toshiba, but then thats why I got him to buy this model - reputable manufacturer - great machine though and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about buying one.

I have been strugling with a probleme for a while now, and I didn't get much help from the support. Its like my new Toshiba has a memory probleme, but I dont know if its caused by Windows Vista or if its HW related.

This is what happens:

When I surf with IE7 og have more than 7 tabs open at the same time, its like windows runs out of memory, all of a sudden I cant open any new tabs and right click on the touchpad does not react. If I then minimize IE7 and right click on the desktop nothing happens either.
If I then close a couple of programs (its only Yahoo messenger og coreTemp that are running(coreTemp shows how warm your cpu is, and min is constantly between 56 og 64 degrees celsius)), then right click works again.

Usually when this happens I cant even get the taskmanager up, but if I close Yahoo Messenger then I can, and now I can see that there is used about 47% memory, under proceses i can see that:

Yahoo uses up to 50MB,
Iexplorer 27 - 150MB
og Dwm.exe takes up to 120MB.

The problem also happens if Yahoo is not started, so thats not the cause.

I have disabled aero and use minimal of all the things Vista comes with, so the I get max. performance following most of the instructions from www.Vistaguide.dk but the probleme persist every time I use IE and use more than 7 tabs (This should not happen, and using more than 7 tabs is perfectly normal).

Besides surfing on the net, I use it for playing video by VLC or GOM player, and music by Winamp. I do... Read more

Answer:Strange issue on my Satellite L40-139

Hello Jan

You are not alone with this. You will not believe me but it happens on my both laptops. I use older Satellite M70 with WXP and Satellite P200D with Vista Home Premium. This strange issue with IE7 happens on both notebooks.

I know for sure that at the beginning of M70 usage I didn?t notice such problem. As you know from time to time there is automatic Microsoft update and maybe some hotfix is responsible for this. Sorry but I do not know what we can do. Only solution is to close IE7 and end IE7 running process in task manager.

Just for example: I have tested it with Opera browser and there is no problem at all. If you want you can test it too.

Unable to use multitouch settings , not sure when this happened but it used to work fine and was able to scroll , 4 finger tap , 3 finger touch ect with my touchpad. Now the touchpad isn't reconised, instead ps/2 mouse pointer appears in the advanced settings under mouse and touchpad. I have tried updating software  driver and selecting synaptics drivers instead, but this also doesn't work. I get an error message saying 'This operation requires an interactive window station.' I have downloaded the latest synaptics driver from their site (Windows 10 PS/2 & SMBus Devices v19.0.19.1) still same error message. Thanks in advance, and if anyone can help with a maybe related problem , my keyboard will sometimes not function; correctly problem started not long ago either, maybe the same;  when pressing the letters 't', y, 5 ,6' this types instead 't5,y6, t5 ,y6' amongst other keys (makes typing very difficult haha)

Hi all,

I tried to install a wireless mouse for my laptop, which I could't get to work(!). No problem, except that when I returned to using my normal Synaptics Touchpad it had lost it's Virtual Scrolling capability. Also, its touch-sensitive areas no longer work.

Furthermore, Synaptics Touchpad seems to have (semi-)disappeared from my computer ("semi" in the sense that the touchpad itself still performs basic functions like moving and highlighting.)

Also, I can no longer find Synaptics in my tray.

I can't find the Touchpad anywhere in Control Panel to get at the settings.

IIRC, there used to be a Synaptics properties window somewhere that allowed you adjust all this stuff - again, I can't seem to find this anywhere.

(My computer: Dell Inspiron 5100, Windows XP, no other problems with computer.)

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

I upgraded to Windows 10, and after the first update the touchpad stopped working.  I called Microsoft for help, the technicians were very patient and helpful, infact I learned a lot watching them shadow my laptop.  I spent a total of 12 hours on the phone talking with different technicians who ended up escalating the matter as they couldn't fix the problem. They even scheduled an appointment for me to bring my laptop to a Microsoft store at the mall to be fixed, which I now can cancel thanks to this site.   I followed the instructions that were posted here, holding the power button down for 10 seconds powering down my laptop, then I removed the battery and power cord, waited about a minute, then put the battery and cord back in, pressed the power button  turning my laptop back on and  the TOUCHPAD NOW WORKS!!!  Microsoft technicians reinstalled Windows 10 three times, checking  everything there was to check, installing and uninstalling the Synaptics touchpad driver and nothing worked so they would keep escalating the case, no one at Microsoft knew of this simple and easy fix.   Just try it and you'll see..... it worked for me, I hope it will work for you!  Thank you to the person who posted these instructions!

Hi Zsofia,

Uninstall the driver and then go to windows update. It will detect your touchpad and install the correct driver software. You should be able to use your touchpad even without the synaptics driver as Vista has native drivers for your touchpad.

Good Luck!

Hello,

I just got an Acer Windows 8 PC, and none of the touchpad gestures seem to be working. I have tried using several recommended third-party tools and all of them said that I didn't have the correct drivers, even after I installed all of them.

I have gone to mouse --> Synaptics --> Settings, and the only options there are to enable/disable the buttons.

Is there any way to enable multi-touch?

Thanks,

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L305 and has a Synaptics TouchPad. I use Windows Vista.

For a few weeks I had been getting messages saying "Synaptics TouchPad has stopped working, click here to solve the problem" or something similar. I didn't think anything of it because the mouse was working fine, so I just hit the "X". I'm not even sure that is a part of the problem even because it has stopped coming up.

Lately the mouse will work fine and after being on the computer for about an hour or so, the mouse will slowly stop working. I can still click and when I tap the touchpad, that will still click. I just won't be able to move the mouse. Restarting the computer does not fix it. Usually I just plug in a mouse and use it for 20-30 minutes and by then the mouse is working fine again.

Any suggestions?

Hi. My touchpad  is not working. I tried all uninstall and reinstall the driver but doesnt work. I hope you guys can help me.

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad not working

Hi, You could try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.  Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook and then disconnect any peripherals ( ie usb mouse etc ). Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58572.exe When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

so you hold the FN key down (on toshiba a drop down menu appears at the top of the screen ) and then press f9 or f11 or any key that has a symbol that may look correct
that will toggle between enable and disable the touch pad

my synaptics touchpad has a mind of its own
Hello this is my first posting to your Windows seven forum. I am writing to you today because over the past two to three weeks my Synaptics touchpad mouse has had a mind of its own. It has been clicking and opening files without me pressing the mouse buttons or tapping the touchpad, scrolling by itself, highlighting and moving the files on my desktop and in my computer, etc. I have tried everything from physically cleaning the Touchpad thoroughly, updating the Synaptics driver time and time again only to find no resolution to this issue, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled previous versions of the synaptics drivers that worked before with my laptop only to be confronted with this same problem. I have ran scans on both Uni-blue registry booster and PC Tools Spyware Doctor (which I use as my registry and anti-virus/spyware programs) and of which I update on a daily/weekly basis and yet I have found no traces of what may be causing my mouse to act so crazy. I have also ran the system scan in the command prompt which was suggested earlier in this thread only to find out that everything was running properly and at 100% integrity.
