Fan kicks quite loudly every minute on Satellite L30

Question: Fan kicks quite loudly every minute on Satellite L30

Hi,

I'm using a Satellite L30 laptop. One thing I am finding annoying is that the fan kicks in quite loudly every minute or so, then quietens down for a while. Using a temperature monitor it looks like the fan kicks in when the temperature rises above about 50, then slows down as it falls. When the temperature is below 45 the fan stops altogether which causes the temperature to quickly rise back above 50.

I want to change the power management settings so that the fan stays on quitely at lower temperatures. I have a desktop computer where it is possible to change the fan settings in the BIOS, but I can't find anything like this on the laptop. Can anyone suggest where I should look - are there any open source or shareware tools which will do this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Fan kicks quite loudly every minute on Satellite L30

Hi,

did you already updated your bios to the latest version? If not, then hurry and check if a newer version is available since most bios updates are correcting some issues like powermanagment settings (ACPI :)) and some other stuff.

Another idea would be to clean up your ventilation system of your machine because a fan which is clobbed with dust, doesn?t work quietly and accurately . A can with compressed air from any electronic market does the trick. :)

Hi All,

I bought my first Toshiba laptop *3 days* ago and so far am pleased other than the cooling fan runs loudly every *5 seconds* for bursts of *13 seconds*.

Even my old laptops never did this in their whole years of usage, i feel that something must be wrong.

Is the laptop faulty? and should I return it before a problem is caused and my warranty runs out?

Or is there an easy fix? (fingers crossed)

I am using the laptop for fairly long periods but have it on a cooling mat at all times which isn't helping.

Many thanks,
Adam

Answer:Satellite C660-23M - fan runs loudly every 5 seconds

Try please to change cooling method settings.

Open power settings for power plan that you use > Change advanced power settings > Toshiba Power Saver Settings > Cooling method > change both options to ?Battery optimized?.

It should reduce cooling fan activity.

Please send some feedback.

I've been using Toshiba for long time, it is my 3rd Toshiba laptop (I bought it in June 2010), Today I bought Headset, when I plugged it in, it didnt work. ( When I talk with my friend via sky, I have to use speaker on laptop instead ) Then my friend found me to download a driver for sound.

after download, headset was working perfectly. BUT speaker on laptop didnt work. Then I restarted computer again and this time when switching on, it stuck. the startup process stop on the Toshiba logo Later, there is peep sound ( Not from speaker, it is very loud ), I can hear it from inside. I cannot do anything else, ONLY shut it down.

Please help or advise where should I take my laptop for service as I think if people reply my post and I am not sure if I can fix it myself.

I am going oversea next week for presentation, and need to use laptop. Do you think If I take laptop to toshiba center, they can figure the problems out straight away ? I am now using my old toshiba, and it is slow to do any presentation.

I have Vista and I've tried everything.
I've set the thermal control mode in the BIOS to 'Silent' (although sometimes I look in the BIOS and it's been reset to performance). I've switched off Aero, altered the minimum and maximum processor speeds etc.

The irregular, loud fan noise is driving me up the wall! I'd rather have it running permamnently at a slightly louder volume than this! The laptop is great but if someone said "I'll give you a full refund" I would accept like a shot - purely on this irritating noisy fan every c. 30 seconds!
Can anyone help? I suspect not - I suspect Toshiba needs to work on its drivers and maybe a BIOS update. I kinda feel I'm at the 'bleeding edge' here with this purchase. I'm having other problems too which I'll post seperately.

Answer:Satellite P100-160: cooling fan kicks in noisily for 1-2 seconds every 30 seconds

Hi David

I am pretty sure that any comment like ?it is normal? will not be good enough for you but there is really no much to do. You can try to play with power settings and see if anything will be better.

Two weeks ago I have made some experiments with P100 and I have installed my Vista with required drivers and tools only. I was positive surprised how Vista runs now. If possible remove all stuff you do not need. The fact is that many preinstalled stuff runs in background and force CPU to run under pressure. I really do not see any other solution at the moment.

In my opinion it has nothing to do with drivers but maybe with BIOS. We will see if Toshiba will offer new BIOS update soon.

Hello,

I just buy a satellite Toshiba there two days now but the fan will turn on every minute when I go only on the web ...

Listening to music / watching videos, it is almost covered by the sound, but otherwise it's really headlock.

It blows every minute 10/20s, and force even if it is not that strong, it's really disturbing.

Is this normal?
plz

Answer:Satellite C660 - fan turns on every minute

Hi

The fan would turn on if the CPU would be stressed.
You can check in task manager what process stresses the CPU and could check if you could disable this.

Furthermore I would recommend checking the Win 7 Power Management
There you can change the settings for cooling modules to battery optimized.

Hope this helps

Satellite M40x-175.

I have updated its BIOS to the latest version (1.60) and since then the hard drive keeps falling asleep after one minute regardless of Windows Power settings or Toshiba Power Saver settings.

Is Toshiba going to release an updated BIOS soon?

Please help.

Answer:HDD keeps falling asleep after one minute on my Satellite M40

Hi

I don?t think that it?s a BIOS malfunction. As far as I know in BIOS you can change settings for HDD. Please check it. Furthermore Toshiba Power Saver disabled the Windows Power settings. Did you check the modes settings of Power Saver?

Hello

My USB sockets went intermittant on Sunday night for no reason. 1 min they were working the next they are not. They seem to work when I turn on the laptop then they stop for no reason.

I have

1 removed and reintalled drivers in Driver Manager
2 installed latest chipset update
3 rebooted PC

Any one know why this would happen, the slots are secure, sometimes they work then they just stop for no reason!

Cheers

Answer:Satellite C650 - USB slots working for 1 minute only

Hello

What operating system is installed at the moment?

Usually such problems with USB ports can be solved due a chipset driver update and removing the USB ports in device manager but it seems that you have done this already?

Do you see something unusual in Windows event viewer?

In your case I would also loading the default settings in BIOS (press F9 key). Have also a look on Toshiba website if there is a newer BIOS version available.

I have a year and 3 months old Toshiba L650-1HM, running the latest Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 and Fuduntu 2012.1 x86_64 Linux, I've updated the bios and every other driver I could find in order to try and fix this but so far nothing has worked.

My guess is the shutdown delay is caused either by the ethernet or wireless boards because while shutting down Fuduntu it locks on the "Shutting down NetworkManager:_" routine before resuming the shutdown sequence.

This happens in both windows and Linux.

Help?

Answer:Satellite L650-1HM freezes for a minute or two at shutdown

How to help when you use two own preinstalled operating systems? Who knows what is your OS configuration?
Who knows which applications are preinstalled?
Linux is not supported at all.

Your Windows is also your own installation. Where to start with our discussion?
Obtain second HDD for testing purposes, put it in your notebook, install original recovery image that you got with your notebook and test t with ?factory settings?. If the same happen again and again then we can say: OK there is maybe some software related issue or anything else.
Happen exactly.
Sorry but on this virtual way it is not easy to say what

My one year old *U840-10M* on Windows 7 _irregularly stops functioning_ for one or two minutes.

This may happen either during regular operation or right after awakening from sleep.
Whether it really stops is not clear, as neither keyboard nor mouse nor touchpad react.
Hence Ctrl-Alt-Delete to check what is happening is no option.
After one minute of deadly silence activities are resumed as normal.

All drivers are up to date. Notebook is used primarily for email and surfing, hence problem appears while using Chrome and/or Outlook 2007.

Any suggestion how to prevent this erratic behaviour is very much appreciated.
Equally welcome are suggestions how to analyse this notebook in order to find out what forces this stop of activity..

Answer:Satellite U840-10M irregularly dead for one minute

Notebook is one year old but it will be interesting since when have you noticed such behaviour. Maybe some background activity blocks your notebook.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say why this happen. What you can do is to back up all your data and reinstall OS using recovery media. It will be interesting to know if the same problem happens when notebook has ?factory settings?.

When I turn on the computer about twenty minutes is quiet. Than fan starts like a hurricane, slows down and stops. It lasts few seconds. The fan works in this way regularly with one minute intervals.
Is there any possibility to switch the fan on continuous work in slow motion?

Answer:Satellite L20-182: fan doesn't work properly - one minute intervals

Hi,

If you go to toshiba power saver you should be able to turn your up or down. Once you open this program from control panel, you have the option to change how much your processor runs as well as how much your cooling modules work. Turning either one down will make the fan not come on as much. Then you might want to try and use a vacuum cleaner to suck the air intake grills to clean any dust that could be clogging it up. Dust can make the fan run more because the lack of cool, fresh air entering the system to cool the cpu. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I have my Display settings set to turn off display after 1 hour when on power and 10 minutes when on battery.
I have a screen saver set up to go on after 10 minutes.

However, my display often (but not always) turns itself off after only a minute or two of inactivity.

Can anyone explain this weird behavior?
It starts up immediately I move the mouse but I just don't like things happening that I haven't scheduled.

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite P850 display turns off after only minute or two of inactivity

Unfortunately I don't have some logical explanation for this behaviour, especially if this happen ?often?. Try to disable screensaver and check if this will happen again and again. Change also display settings and check if there s some difference.

Hi! I need your help! Whenever I switch to battery power, suddenly, one minute later, my laptop turns off for no reason! The battery is fully charged. What do you think the problem is? My laptop is 4 years old.
It's a Satellite 1400.
Thanks a lot!

Answer:After one minute on battery power my Satellite 1400 switches off

Hello Krissy

In my opinion everything that happens has some reason. According to your description I believe that battery is at the end and must be replaced.

It can be that battery status is full but there is no enough power. I have similar problem with Tecra 9000. Unit is also about 4 years old. On battery it runs maybe 10 min but after that this time it switched down suddenly.

Hi.

I have just bought an A200-1FL and I'm testing it these days. I have noticed that the cooler starts and stops every minute aprox when I'm using it only with the battery.

Unplugged from the power, even if I'm not doing too much, just browsing Internet. Is this normal?

If I work with the power plugged in, the cooler doesn't make any sound.

Thanks.

I do not know if something is malfunctioning or if an old part needs a replacement. I built the computer and it was working perfectly and quietly. However, in the past few months, it has grown louder and louder. I first suspected the fans, so I replaced the fans with new ball bearing fans and the problem persists. Just yesterday, I cleaned out the guts of my computer with several tissues, removing an unbelieveable amount of dustbunnies. I managed to get almost all of the dust particles in between the metallic gaps of the heatsink.

Has anyone has issues like this before? Should I try replacing the heatsink or the power supply? Are they any other parts that are likely to produce alot of noise? How would I go about testing it (I did not restart my computer without a heatsink or power supply, that's just stupid/impossible)? I doubt this would matter but, the computer was built the summer of 2003 2.4 GHz, 1024 DDR RAM, ASUS p4800.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Answer:Computer operating too loudly...

Is it a constant noise? And theres a possibility its the fan's in the PSU or on the heatsinks.

The other day I got home and I heard this screech. I followed the noise to my computer. I've had this computer for about a year and a half and I've never had this problem before. I shut it down, opened the case and used canned air to clean the fans. Then i rebooted and the noise was gone. Tonight out of nowhere, the fan started screeching again. I checked the cpu temp on the thermometer on the case of the computer and cpu temp was normal at 32 degrees C. I turned the computer so it had more air and blew in it and the fan stopped making noise. I Dled CPUID Hardware Monitor and it looks like all the temps are fine. The fans are running at 1339 - 1383 respectively. I have liquid cooling and a couple of fans and if it's not the CPU that's running hot, what else might it be? Please advise, thanks

Answer:Fan Started Running loudly lately

Bell,

Without hurting yourself, try and temporarily stop all fans that are running in the computer one at a time. Perhaps gently press on the middle part of the fan so that the blades don't hit you, and you can find out if it is screeching, pressing harder and harder until it stops. There are many fans, side fans, high fans, low fans. test em all. If you find the bad one, look up ways you might be able to fix it, or just replace it. Fans can go bad. Dust and lack of greese may be what is causing the screeches. If it isn't a fan, it could be the hard drive, but we'll get to that after you post back. Good luck! (Please be careful)

Answer:Cooling fan on my M30 works often and loudly

Hi Branislav,

Your cooling fan running frequently and very quickly is a symptom of CPU overheating. I would recommend that you clean any dust and debris from the CPU heat-sink to make sure that sufficient cooling air is allowed to pass through the cooling matrix.

Secondly, I would check in Task Manager for any tasks or processes which may be running and using excessice CPU. If you have not already done so I would run one or more spyware detection utilities (ad-aware and spybot or my usual ones), and remove any infection that you find.

Best of Luck

Hey Guys

I have a problem with my son's computer that I hope somebody can help me with. It is a Compaq with Windows XP SP2. It sometimes runs very slowly and the cooling fan runs quite loudly. Other times it runs and sounds normal. I used msconfig to turn off the programs that I didn't need running and am constantly running virus and antispyware software. I also use Cleanup! regularly. I am including a hjt log so that hopefully somebody will be able to see something that we can fix.

Thanks

I have a new T460 - whenever running a task that momentarily spikes the CPU usage (some heavy website loading for example) the fan accelerates to a very loud noise level for about 1 second and then immediately slows down. It's extremely annoying to say the least - I'm pretty sure this cannot be an expected behaviour, everytime there is a spike in CPU usage. I've read a similar post about the X1 that indicates it might be related to the bios version. Lenovo support or anyone, do you know if a bios update is scheduled for the T460 to address this fan issue? Anyone else experiencing this?  Current using Bios 1.10

Ok, so my speakers are a Logitech Z5300 5.1 set and my sound card is the Creative X-fi Elite Pro. I have bass redirection enabled with the crossover frequency set at 140hz. Now whenever I'm writing or listening to music or something and the computer plays the frequency 123hz (the B a minor 9th below Middle C), it is really loud and muddled, much louder than any of the other pitches near it. I'm not sure if this is the only frequency this happens on, but it's the only one that I've noticed or that bothers me. I tried pulling the speakers off of the wall to see if the speakers were resonating the wall, but it wasn't that. Does anyone know why this might be or how to fix it? Or is that just a particularly resonant pitch on these speakers? If there's anything I left out or anything else you would need to know, just say so. Thanks so much

well, i think the only way to find out would be to try different speakers. I know that seems obvious but i decided to reply anyway.

Hello. I recently posted on www.techsupportforums.com. I'm awaiting a reply from someone there.

- My computer freezes randomly and I sometimes cannot get it too full boot up. The fan comes on and is very, very loud. the computer start-up does not respond. I get the message "Windows cannot start successfully - seconds until Windows starts". I can use the system but it's very difficult to boot up and I do not know when it'll freeze.

Thank you,
kirbycc

Answer:My computer freezes up, fan sometimes runs very loudly

Hello Kirbycc,

Does the fan sound normal or is there something extra?
You seem to have few replies on TechSupport, but I would start with cleaning/dusting.
Heat can explain all your problem and often the reason is the dust. It is also possible that there is something wrong with your fan too...

Hi,

In January 2006 I bought a brand new Dell. In the past year the fan starts to spin loudly on occasion. For instance, when my antivirus program scans my computer, the fan speeds up. It also seems to do this if I'm running a few pieces of software, and also some websites in Firefox.

Does anyone know if there is something wrong? And if so, what can I do?

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,

-sophia

My specs:
Dell DM051 Mini-Tower
Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600)
3.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
3584 Megabytes Installed Memory

Answer:Solved: Fan Sometimes Spins Quickly and Loudly

It is normal for the fan to speed up when the load on the processor causes temperature increase. If you think it is doing it excessively I would check that the air intakes are clear of fluff and dust and, if you feel competent enough, open up the case and check the fan on the processor is free of dust etc.

My system is Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 3. My computer is Intel Pentium 4CPU 2.40GHz 2-39 GHz. 512 MB of RAM. I use Firefox. My computer is very slow to load and I thought it was because of Avast! running at startup.
Then my D-drive stopped working; if I try to use it I get an internal error and everything shuts down.
I tried to uninstall my Adaware thinking maybe it was a rogue program but I can't do that either. The Windows Installer screen says 'this feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable' and then tells me to enter an alternate path.
I don't surf alot but I do use Facebook and play Farmtown there.
Now my system is in such a strain that I can hear it running very loudly. It's also knocking me offline when I try to load pages and I can hear it straining.
I don't know what to do and would like to see if it can be fixed before I try to buy another one.
Thank you in advance.

posted once but cannot locate my post, so I'll keep it short. I have looked thru these posts trying to find answer for Win 7 'eliminating' my audio, a common problem it seems. I have tried every fix a non techie can do; updating sound card driver, re-installing, and re-re-installing Win 7 Pro, checking all connections to speakers and verifying they still work, formatted both my drives and re-re-re-installed again, and still no audio. Sound card is built into a Tyan s2866 server motherboard and worked fine until I upgraded from Win XP Pro to Win 7 Pro (32 bit).

The errors I get are; no audio device installed, and yellow'!' next to MultiMedia Controller in device manager. Any help is appreciated, though please keep it simple, tech talk confuses the heck out of me.

Thanks

We have an HP Pavilion dv2700 laptop, purchased in 2008 at Circuit City in the US. It runs Windows Vista Home Premium. It's developed a problem that prevents it from booting. When I press the power button, the HP welcome screen with the boot options flashes (usually too fast to press F8), then proceeds to the "Windows Error Recovery" screen. There are two options here: "Launch Startup Repair" and "Start Windows Normally;" also a countdown timer of 30 seconds that says the highlighted option will be executed if no selection is made. If I use the arrow keys to select an option, the timer goes away and I am unable to select any options using the Enter key (it's like the Enter key is disabled). If I let the timer expire, another screen comes up that says "loading windows files." A loading bar flashes across the bottom of the screen twice then the "Microsoft Corporation" logo appears with the normal loading graphic scrolling horizontally just above the logo. It seems to get stuck here.

If I attempt to hold down the power button to power down the computer, it will initially shut off for about one second. It then powers back up automatically with a blank screen and begins beeping very loudly. The beeps are a steady pattern of one long beep followed by two short beeps. At this point, holding down the power button will not shut down the computer. The only way to stop the beeping is to remove the battery from the bottom of th... Read more

I purchased this slimline tower in December and right out of the box it started humming fairly loudly.  The humming stopped for a while and now it's back.  It's intermittant, but it seems to be happening more often--a few times per hour.  I don't know if this is a hardware problem that I need to have HP fix or just something that is normal.  Can anyone shed light on it please? Thanks!

Hello,

I am running Windows 7 Home premium, 64-bit. A couple of days ago, very suddenly, without any action/installation/ updates on my part, the sound started randomly blowing up when playing any kind of multimedia, including online streaming. All volume indicators
remain at the level set, but the sound itself goes to maximum, creating a health hazard as regardless of the volume we set it, it deafens us. So, for example, streaming a youtube video at 50% volume and having the main volume set at 40%, the sound would burst
to its loudest from time to time.

Tweaking the settings in the 'Sound' properties has had no effect. Updating the Realtek HD driver to the latest available also has done nothing to resolve the situation. The problem persists. OS has become unusable for anything that includes sound, and is now
a health hazard. Please help.

I bought a new HP laptop in September and eveything has been fine since yesterday. Whilst I was watching a video on YouTube, I noticed a loud whirring noise coming from the fan. I decided the safest thing to do would be to turn off the laptop. I did and when I tried to turn it back on, I got an error message telling me that it was turned off due to overheating, and shut down straight away again. I looked up my problem and decided to try a solution that suggested removing the battery, draining the power, and restarting. That worked fine and the issue didn't reappear yesterday.  Just now, the same sudden noise happened again and I decided to leave the laptop on, and it stopped after 15-20 seconds. The laptop is pretty new so I don't think it's normal to be experiencing fan issues. How do I solve this? My product number is F0F90EA#ABU

I used my pc Sunday morning without any problems and left it as usual for awhile as I did other things. When I came back to it I couldn't get it to run. I switched it off and on and the fan went crazy but no response from the actual pc. The start button remained amber.
Monday night I tried again and it ran without any problem until I left it and it went to standby. I have tried since then but it won't boot, the fan is very loud and the light remains amber.
I have unplugged it and checked connections but it won't start.
I have heard it could be the CPU or the motherboard, is there any way I can fix this without taking it to a repair shop?
Many thanks

Answer:Dimension C521 - won't boot, fan runs loudly

Starlie
Is the power button LED, solid amber, or blinking amber?
Check the four Diagnostic Lights on the front panel?
Go HERE for the C521 Diagnostic Codes and Troubleshooter.
Are there any 'Beeps', or Error Messages?

Hey,
whenever i power on my laptop, there is a loud beeping sound which continues forever. I have to shut it down by pressing the power button for 5 seconds. What I have found is that when i start the laptop and keep pressing f10 and then exiting the page without saving the changes, the laptop starts normally without any problems. What could be the cause and how do i solve it?

Answer:Laptop beeps loudly on powering on. Can be avoided by pressing f10.

Welcome
The beep is a signal that there is something wrong with the computer that should be fixed. Stopping the beep does not solve the problem
Computer never stops beeping or has solid beep.

Hey Mates,

I have not found a definitive solution to this problem. My wife's l XPS 730x will not load to windows. It turns on and the fan gets really loud, but that's it. No POST as far as I can tell. I removed the memory and got no beeps.
usually, After being unplugged for a few days, it will, at some point, work. Then we never turn it off until the next power outage/toddler button push. Then it starts all over again. We've tried unplugging it and pressing the Power button to drain residual power, but it isn't working now.

Point is, it WILL work...when it feels like it. Its frustrating. I started a ticket, i think, but its now out of warranty.

Pentium i7 with  a 1kW power supply, NVidia 280. 8 Gigs of ram . I have reseated the memory and checks the HDD conenctions.

I get no diagnostic lights up front. All 4 lights come on and stay on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks mats!

Hi, first off I am very sorry if this is in the wrong forum. So, lately my computer has been running very loudly and very slow. Also, when I play any sound it makes a weird noise sometimes and skips. My CPU usage jumps from 20 to 30 to 100% for no apparent reason. I tired running anti-virus programs, but that didn't work. I did disk defragment and disk cleanup, but neither of those worked. I really don't know much about computers though, so I am stuck on what to do next. Please try to help me and thank you. I have windows XP. Sorry if this isn't enough information, I just really don't know much about computers. I should be fine following any instructions to give more info and to fix it even though I don't know much.

As soon as there's an operation on the HDD (like watching a video or copying a file) it stops making loud noises and starts running normally..

I've got a set of 5.1 Logitech Z-5500 speakers. What happens is the back right speaker in my setup will suddenly, without any warning, start popping loudly when I have sound going. First it'll pop once, then there's a short delay. Next the popping gets louder and more frequent, and eventually, the speaker will pop about 20 times rapidly before all the speakers go dead and the sound stops completely.

The control pod stays on, but there's no sound. Turning off everything from the subwoofer, waiting a little, and turning the sub and the control pod back on will temporarily fix the problem.

This first happened a few months ago, and I kept the sub off for about two weeks before deciding to turn it on again. The speakers all worked and the problem went away until now. Now I can't keep the speakers on for a minute before the back right speaker pops and forces the sound off.

Does anyone know what it could be? I've isolated it to that speaker, and I've rechecked all of the wires multiple times. I believe I have the latest drivers but I feel that this is likely a hardware problem, I just don't know what it could be.

Ok, something interesting I've noted. If I have headphones on, the audio will stop, but without the popping. Could this mean it's not an issue with the speaker, and possibly with the sound card or driver?
I really appreciate any help.

Recently when I have tried to play games on my Laptop, my screen will turn black, but I can still hear the game in the background. I also hear a sound like I'm getting a notification but I can never see what it is because the display crashes. Then a few seconds later, the sound cuts out, my laptop beeps loudly about 16-22 times, and then it shuts off. I have updated all of my drivers, so I don't think that is the problem. I also blew out the dust out of my laptop, replaced the thermal paste, and bought a cooling pad, and my temperatures have been fine since then. I ran a memory diagnostics with the tool windows has for that, and it didn't find any issues with the RAM. I don't know what could be going on! I am running Windows 10 on my laptop. My laptop is a Clevo P150HMx, with an intel core i7 2630QM, and my graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 675M. All of my games used to run fine, but now I can hardly even get into a game without this happening. I'm not very tech savvy and I could use any help anyone has to offer! Thank you!

Answer:Laptop display crashes when playing games, then computer beeps loudly and shuts off

Ensure Windows is fully patched. Assuming the laptop officially supports Win10, ensure you are using the latest drivers available from the laptop manufacturer. Check Windows Event Viewer for any errors noted at the time of one of the crashes.

The website will randomly sign them out before they can get much work done. I've upgraded from IE5 to IE6, lowered the cookie/IE security levels, no change. I didn't expect much to happen there, since it had worked for a long time before. It's a IE only site, so other browsers are out. Medicare says they have not changed anything with the website in a long time. What else could have changed? thanks

Question: Power kicks off

I have a newly built machine with a Foxconn MB, AMD 3500 CPU, 500 Megs DDR2, 500W power supply, 160g Seagate HD. This motherboard has a 24 pin connetion for the main power plus the 4pin 12v connector. Every so often the machine just shuts off for no apparent reason. I haven't even put the case back together yet and I end up having to unplug and plug the main power source, jiggle the power button wires and unplug and plug the 24 pin connector to get the machine to power up again. If I shut the machine off through windows the same thing would ocurred, so I swapped the power supply with a 350W 20 pin cooler master powersupply and machine powered up and ran fine for a couple of days. If I turned it off through windows there wasn't a problem powering it back up normally. Now I can't seem to get it to power back on at all. Not sure if its a short or if I am missing something with the wiring. Any suggestions of what to look for.

Thanks

I have used the Adobe business edition of photoshop 1.0 for a long time and now all of a sudden it won't let me save anything. It just kicks me out of it altogether. Any suggestions?

Care to clarify what the name of the prog really is? There is no 'Adobe Photoshop 1.0 Business Edition'. Do you mean Photodeluxe?

Info is scarce about Photodeluxe as it was discontinued by Adobe 4 years ago. Other versions preference files are located in the Program Files/PhotoDeluxe 'Prefs folder'. Deleting the .psp file there will reset your preferences. Failing that, an uninstall/reinstall is your next best bet.

Our internet service seems to be going in and out. Have had servece guys from Charter out who went over all the connections and even have a new modem. We are using an older Belkin wireless router (2.4GHz - 802.11g Wireless with high speed mode). We will have good access to the net one time, and the next time have to disconnect the modem and router, let them sit for a minute, reconnect them and all will be well. I can be on with my laptop, and my wife will try to connect and it won't let her and vise versa.

I did read in another post about turning off the power save option on my laptop. I'll check my wife's and do the same for her's as well.

Not sure if it's where we live that our ISP's signal is getting stopped, or what may cause our modem cut out. We pay extra for faster speed as well so it's getting frustrating. There are times I'll call (and get thru all the hoops just to talk to someone) and once they access our modem all will be well, for a while.

We also have an airrave for our cell phones which will go out as well. Nothing like living in the boonies.

Is this a problem with our equipment, or our ISP at fault?

Answer:Internet or router kicks out

What do you mean by this? Everything is good for a longer period and then the drop outs occur again?
If the problem always goes away after they check the modem, I would say it is the ISP's fault in some way even if it is a new modem.

You might try to see if there is a firmware update for your Belkin router.
Also, the router could be showing it's age if you've had it for awhile.
Do you have a lot of power outages in your area? That may have degraded the router over the long run.

Currently I got VS free on auto-mode and Spyshelter Firewall (High Security Mode?) on 6mth license.

Recently while trying to update some software (e.g. WFC, ZAM, LibreOffice, etc), I have blocks coming from both software. While im pretty confused, I wondered which of the two kicks in the block first followed by the others?

I realised sometimes SpS is aggresive in blocking, other times VS blocks the execution too.

I am trying to install a couple of kids games for my child. Of the 3 that i've tried. only 1 works. On the other 2, they autorun to the installation screen, and then when I click "install", I get booted to the desktop again and the installation is terminated I guess. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I tried calling tech support for the games and they were no help at all. I am running Win XP btw. I have installed this on my parents pc which is also XP, and it works just fine on theirs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

i have turned the internet upside down looking for a solution to this. i only found one thread and no solution. my problem is that my soundcard is picking up interference. when the fan kicks on, immediately my speakers emmit a loud and constant high pitched buzzing until the fan stops. all my drivers and windows are/is up to date. the sound is there if i plug in headphones or external speakers. i can get rid of it by muting the speakers, but if i want to listen hear music or watch a video i have to tolerate the sound whenever the fan runs, which is often. my computer is pretty old. circa 2005 i think. as such i'm not expecting a quick fix answer but i can't afford a new one and i love my computer. it still suits my needs perfectly aside from this buzzing. please help!

Answer:speakers buzz whenever fan kicks on

To me sounds like its bad power coming from the power supply causing the fan to run and emite the hissing noise through the speakers sort of like when you turn on a vacuum and the lights dime because there all on the same circuit if you understand what I mean?

Hi, I need some assistance with my laptop.

The power, and the battery light comes on when I switch laptop on at the mains.when I go to switch the laptop on only the fan kicks in it's not booting up at all.

Can anybody help?

Thanks

Answer:Re: Equium - Not booting up only the fan kicks

Hi

What Equium notebook you have exactly?
It?s really hard to say what is causing this issue but maybe it?s a hardware problem and you need professional

But at first try this workaround:
Remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor, then wait up to 1 hour. Next connect both devices again and try to start the notebook. Maybe it will work?

If not you should contact the nearest authorized service provider. The technicians should check your notebook for hardware problems.

I've got Verizon FIOS internet service. Their modem/router has both hard connections and wireless. One PC and my VOIP modem are connected via hard connection to the FIOS modem/router. My laptop connects to the FIOS modem via wireless. Whenever I get a phone call it seem the wireless connections drops out and then re-establishes once the call is done. The internet connection via hard connection is not affected. Is the normal, designed in? Or a conflict somewhere in the setup?

Hey everyone, I'm having some problems with my computer. First thing, when I try to plug my only HD with an 80 pin connector to my primary EIDE controller on the board it never detects. If I use a 40pin cable it detects fine, but gives me a warning msg on bootup. Also my 300w power supply just died on me the other day, so I replaced it with a 330, everything powers fine. I don't think that I am low on power because I don't even have my optical storage devices powered....Other then I sould format because of some errors, every game I play just either freezes after 10minutes or so , or it just exits me back to the desktop. I am really stumped!

Motherboard 46 C (115 F)
CPU 41 C (106 F)

Answer:Every game freezes, or kicks me out!

there is a good chance ur psu isnt powerful enough. ur graphics and cpu will use more power when doin a more demadin prosess such as gaming and that psiu simply might not be enough for that. that problem with teh 80pin cable is very unusual cant say ive come accross it before so cant be help there sorry.

I'm trying to play Sim City 3000 UK edition on my XP PC, it will install, load and everything but as soon as i get to the game play it will only work for around 5 minutes, then it'll kick me out and back to desktop withou any warning or anything? I've tryed all compatability modes, they don't make any difference?

Answer:Sim City 3000 kicks me out?

Welcome to TSG.

Apparently there are patches available for it to run on XP but a lot of people say that they don`t work for them so perhaps that`s not a reliable route to go down. Here`s another couple of options ...

Make sure you`ve updated the system through Windows Update as you may be missing a file or two that it needs.

You could try running Virtual PC and install 98 SE in there.

Ok Here is a one I have been working on for a long time.
I have two computers on my network one a 2000 and one XP.
It seems like every so often it will kick its self out of the domain.
What I mean by this is that when the user tries to login they get a
message saying it can't find the domain controller.
Now I know the domain controller is there because everyone
else is able to login and out with no problems.
To be able to get the computer to login into the domain I have to login locally and then change the domain to be a workgroup. Reboot. Login again connect it to the domain and then reboot one more time.
After all of this I am able to login into the domain with no problems

It seems to happen more often on the 2000 computer than the XP
the 2000 it seems to happen about once a week or so...maybe when they restart that computer maybe...but I am not sure if that is the case.

The XP Computer has not done this in while at least as far as I know.

does anyone know where to look to fix this problem on these two machines...as I said it is only these two and we have around 40 computers on our domain.

any help would be cool
Thanks in advance.

We have a couple of Cisco 1242AG wireless access points. They have worked good most of the time but now they are kicking off clients. It appears to affect Mac users more often than Windows or mobile users. The Macs work fine on other WAPs and wireless routers so it's not strictly a Mac issue.

Anyone else experienced this? Any fix suggestions?

I've been searching on here, but can't find a solution: I've checked my bios, and everything seems turned off, and went to CP/power options, and tried everything, and no kind of standby will work, as soon as it *goes* to standy, within about one second it comes right back up...I read some of the replies on here, and so I removed my optical wireless mouse, and that didn't change anything, and only thing I've noticed is that when it doesn't go into standby, it does come up with this error kind of msg, in windows, which says "Power Surge on Hub Port" ...for some reason I think it's my psu, but that's just because I read some stuff on here, and I have ordered an antec 430 from newegg that some of you'all had recommended...but that might not really be the problem...any ideas?

ThankYou...

Answer:Standby?, kicks right back out

I changed hard drives, unhooked ethernet, changed mouse and all usb ports, went back into bios and stared at "power options" for a while, but I've already changed all those, and it still...won't....standby...

Or hibernate either...not successfully...if it does go into "hybernate" it seems like it's shut down, and nothing brings it back but reboot...

If nothing else, I have a new psu coming from newegg...but other than that, I'm outta ideas...I know this one of those things that could be "a lot of things..." but anyway, you'all have always come thru when all else failed...like yesterday w/my audio...so I'm all hopeful that it'll happen again...

thankyou thankyou...

How do I correct this problem, so that I get only the printed page?

Answer:Printer kicks out multiple pages

Some printers get picky like that with age. Is this printer very old? I've found that the more paper I keep IN the printer, the less likely it is to shoot out an extra page. Good luck!

I have a desktop running XP and a desktop running Vista - both perfectly connected to the internet via a wireless router -a SITECOM (WPA protected).

When the PC with Vista is connected to the internet, the PC with XP cannot connect (better: It can still see the internet connection called Sitecom in the list of the wifi connections, but if It cannot connect to it).

If Vista is not connected to the internet, the PC with XP can connect without problem.

Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks
Michele

Answer:Why VISTA kicks XP out of the WIFI connection?

First question: When the XP PC is connected to the net, can the Vista PC connect?

How did you set up your connection? Did you go to set up advanced connection manually, then pick PPPoE (aka log in with a username)?
If you use PPPoE, you'll have to use internet connection sharing, or set up a home network for it to work. You can't have multiple computers directly connected via PPPoE.

Hi,
Every morning when I wake up my wifi connection is offline on all devices in the house. When trying to connect to the wifi name it states, " Can not connect to this network". I called the cable company the first time it happened and they told me it was my router because the internet connects when connecting straight to modem after a modem restart. And that they will not troubleshoot the router unless its theirs. So I bought a new Tp-link AC1200 router and it works fine but every morning the same thing happens. The only fix is to unplug the router's power and plug it back in.

Is there a setting I need to change or something else I can try to troubleshoot the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hi all; i saw that some people have had some of the same issues as I am having with Google Earth, but not the exact same.

I am using Google Earth: 6.1.0.5001 which according to the program, is the update one.

my computer is HP Pavilion m9510f, ram=4.0 GB, 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Quad processor with nvidia purevideo graphics card. Please let me know if you need to know more information.
Here is what happening. Whenever i use google earth, and especially the street view, my internet on this computer alone shuts off for about 3 or so minutes. i know this as i have a wireless device and another wired device that is able to be online while the internet on this computer is offline.

my internet is cable modem through a belkin router. i cannot figure out what is happening and why and when i run a diagnostic tool during the outage, it takes several minutes to the point that the internet is restored on this computer and therefore cannot find anything wrong.

i figured i would try you guys first. Please let me know if you need further information on this!

Thank you so much!

Answer:Google Earth kicks me off internet

Here is the Google Earth help site.

I use it myself with a high-speed wired connection and have never been kicked off-line while using it.

Have you tried connecting that computer straight to the cable modem and bypassing the router to see if the same thing happens?

I just bought a laptop with Win7 Home Premium pre-installed. Every time I plug it into my router, my WinXP desktop's connection starts to yo-yo. "Network cable unplugged" .. "Local Area Connection is now connected" .. over and over.

Here is my setup.
= Desktop =
WinXP Pro 2002 SP3
Static IP: 192.168.6.2
Workgroup: HOME

= Printer =
Xerox workgroup network printer
Static IP: 192.168.6.240

These both plug into an old D-Link 614+ router (192.168.6.253) which acts like a dumb hub. I don't use WLAN port... just use one of the empty hub ports to connect it to my IPCop gateway (192.168.6.254)

When I plug the laptop into the router, it gets the dhcp lease 192.168.6.100 from the gateway. I can ping, say google.com but the connection is poor - 25% to 50% packet loss - so I guess it is yo-yoing too.

If I plug the laptop directly into my gateway, everything works just fine. Clearly the laptop is causing the router to drop the connections

.... but why? And how to I fix it?
Thanks

Scott

note: the Laptop's workgroup is also set to "HOME"

Hello,

The president of my company asked me to post this. Every year, when Daylight Saving Time occurs, his calendar in Outlook shifts. This is not unique to this year (and the new DST rules) - this has been happening for years -- it HAS to be something in Outlook, as it's happened on multiple computers.

Whether he sets his time/date and Outlook preferences to "auto-detect DST" or not, the same thing will happen.

If the DST kicks in, and (for example), moves his clock ahead an hour (for Spring) - then all of his 'tasks' in his Outlook calendar ALSO advance an hour (so, his 1pm appt. shifts to 2pm in his calendar). If he does NOT adjust for DST, then - of course - his calendar stays intact, but his computer appears to be running a hour behind, in terms of time.

Please help!

Thanks so much!

Chris
