Satellite P70-A-11R - Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

Question: Satellite P70-A-11R - Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

Hi - the touchpad has simply stopped working after the last couple of rounds of Windows updates and I didn't note which one, so not sure if I have a suitable restore point.

Tried downloading latest drivers from Toshiba website and it makes no difference. Also tried uninstalling these and installing the Elan drivers and these didn't install properly at all. I found some slightly older Synaptics drivers, which one of my other PCs runs ok on and although they installed ok, the touchpad does nothing. I'm relying on an external mouse, which is less than ideal.

Worryingly, the Toshiba website says it doesn't recognise my PC's serial number, yet it was bought in the UK through Asda online. All help and ideas welcome...

Preferred Solution: Satellite P70-A-11R - Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite P70-A-11R - Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

I had the same issue. After Windows update installation, the touchpad didn?t work.

The touchpad has been disabled? why? I guess some Microsoft updates disabled the touchpad.

Solution was simply: I could enable the touchpad again using the function keys: FN + F5

Ok So hunted through propably about 50 websites going through all the forums for a solution to this problem..
heres the pain...

Compaq pressario cq50 (not that this matters)

its a clients PC , Touch pad randomly stops working... Have updated the drivers... and still problem persists.

Originally when the touchpad stopped working i used the keyboard to navigate to Control pane/ mouse / hardware, and the ps2 touchpad had dissappeared.

Now since the update the touchpad still becomes unresponsive and still appears in Control panel/ mouse/ hardware, within the mouse control panel there is the option on the synaptics tab to reset the device, when i do this the touchpad becomes responsive again.

Looking through the forums most people seem to think this is a power issue and most people have found a solution of removing the battery and replacing it and this gets the touchpad working again.

however this is only a temporary fix.

im looking for a hardcore solution.

does anyone know if theres any alternative to the synaptics touchpad, or have any idea what could be causing it to become unresponsive.

Whilst typing this the mouse has now become responsive, and the keyboard from time to time shows a bit of lag, and everynow and then becomes unresponsive for a few seconds.

This is a clients laptop, and is putting me to the end of my tether.

i have explained to the client that i have exhausted my knowledge on this device and have not found a fix, so any solution is worth a try.

Hi!I have an acer aspire 8920g and my touchpad just suddenly stopped working(it won`t respond when i touch it).NOTE;This is the touchpad on the left side of the keyboard not the mousepad.i have tried updating the driver but it didn`t help.
Also my screen resolution keeps changing everytime i exit programs like games or media centre-tv etc.I jus bought this laptop so was wondering if i should take it back. Will someone please help!!!

Answer:synaptics touchpad stopped working

I'd take it back. A new computer should not have two hardware problems while still under warranty.

I have a new Acer Aspire 1670 laptop which has worked fine for the past few weeks. However, I turned it on this morning (it worked fine last night) to find that my touchpad no longer works.

I don't feel this is a hardware issue in the sense that the touchpad has become unplugged from the internal PS/2 port, because the touchpad works for about 3-4 seconds after I log onto Windows/when the desktop loads up. That's the only time it works, it doesn't even work at the welcome/logon screen.

After those 3-4 seconds, something obviously happens that's preventing it from working.

I thought it might be my Wacom Graphire II graphics tablet, which is plugged in via USB 2. However, my touchpad and tablet have worked fine together for the past few weeks and have never caused any problems.

I unplugged the tablet, and uninstalled the tablet and touchpad drivers. I then rebooted, and - navigating around with the keyboard - reinstalled the touchpad drivers and rebooted. It still won't work.

Any ideas?

Answer:Synaptics touchpad suddenly stopped working

Two things:

1. Does the touchpad have an indicator light that shows you when it is activated? The one on my HP does.

2. Is there an On/Off button above the touchpad...there is on my HP. Did you accidently turn it OFF

I want to thank in advance for any responses I get to this thread.

I have a Gateway laptop model MT6840. It has a Synaptics touchpad. A couple of days ago, the touchpad stopped working completely. I took my laptop out of sleep mode, and the icon for the touchpad in the system tray was simply gone. I checked Control Panel: Mouse: Device Settings for the Synaptic touchpad, but all options are merely grayed out, and the device does not register on the computer anymore.

I believe I have tried almost everything. I first tried rebooting. I then tried disconnecting my external mouse and then rebooting. Then I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver from the Gateway website. I looked on Google, but found nothing of use. Alas, none of these things have worked.

This is a bit frustrating because, although I do have an external mouse, it is much more convenient not to have to bring the external mouse around when I transport it. And since I'm a college student, I need to get around with my laptop quite often.

I don't believe it is anything related to the hardware because it stopped working when the software (apparently) magically disappeared. I would really like to solve this problem.

If anyone knows of anything, please let me know. If there is some detail I should mention that would help, please also let me know.

Answer:Gateway MT6840: Synaptics Touchpad stopped working

Well, I decided to reboot again and go into the BIOS. I did, changing absolutely nothing (even choosing the "discard changes" exit option), logged onto Windows, and the problem was solved.

I have no idea how that worked, but it did.

I can't find a delete thread option, so if an admin is reading this, go ahead and just delete this.

I hare recently upgradedmy Toshiba Satellite L855-149 to the most recent windows 8 version 6.2 and since I have done so the Synaptics touch pad has stopped working, I presume because the driver does not work with this version of windows 8. What can i do to resolve this problem so that i can use my computer without a plug in mouse again?

Answer:Satellite L855-149 - Synaptics touchpad not working after Win 8 upgrade

Hi Simon !!
I have just clean installed windows pro 8 on my satellite r830 and i had the same problem (actually, the touchpad still worked but not the scrollbars).
What you need to do is download the driver via this website, unzip it and execute it. It will work just fine. Locate it under 'windows 7 64 Bit' (or 32 Bit, depending on your OS) and not 'Windows 8 - Upgrade' as synaptics still hasn't realized a specific driver to windows 8.
Use the assistant on the website to find the proper driver faster (the reference of the model is written on the back of the laptop)
So far, it's the only driver that i have installed. However, the button near the touchpad that activates or deactivates it still doesn't work. Maybe it will work again when i install the other drivers.
I hope this can help you ;)

My synaptics touchpad is not working correctly my mouse is working fine but the corners from the touchpad for special functions isn't working at all.

I tried to configure it again but this had no result, also i downloaded a new driver but this had no result to. My buttons keys for multimedia like play/pause or stop aren't working either.

These buttons/keys stopped working at the same time as the touchpad. Checked for viruses with NOD 32 pro and for spyware with ZA pro==> no results.

Who can help me with this problem???

Answer:Synaptics touchpad is not working properly on Satellite A100-635

Hi there,

just a little question: when did they stopped working? Did you installed some software or some similar stuff like tools or something?
If not, then backup your data and make a system recovery. It should be a good way to find out, if it?s just an software problem or a serious hardware problem.

I suggest you to recover your system and then give a feedback if it worked, because if you already tried a new driver, you won?t have many choices.

I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite A100.
I was wondering where I could download a driver for Synaptics touchpad that works?

I tried the generic drivers from Synaptics' website, but they do not install completely (the second component always fails to install).
Then I tried the ones from Toshiba's website, but The Vista-compatible ones display an error that says error code "#5B4 @10".

Then I tried The Windows XP-compatible drivers, and they work perfectly, except the fact that I cannot configure enhanced features such as virtual scrolling and tap zones.
I click on the icon in the tray, click on The Device Settings tab, and whenever I click on The Settings button nothing happens.

Any help?

Answer:Satellite A100: Where to get a working Synaptics touchpad driver for Vista?

Usually the driver from the Toshiba page should be fully valid and should works.
Please note that there are different A100 series and if you download any drivers, be sure that you choose the right drivers for the right notebook series.

Did you check if the touchpad settings can be set and changed in the control panel??
As far as I know the touchpad properties can be set in the ?Mouse? option which can be found in the control panel!!!

In the ?Device settings? tab you should select the ?synaptics touchpad? and press ?settings?.
New window will pop up and you will find many options controlling the touchpad settings!!!

I decided to upgrade my XP 32bit to Vista x64 Ultimate on my A100 PSAAR.
OS works perfectly except one thing - touchpad, which used to work perfectly in XP, doesn't response at all under Vista x64 (with SP1 of course).

Worse thing is, that my (Synaptics) touchpad is listed in Device Manager as a properly working. Hmm - not to my recollection. Answering your potential suggestions - I tried reinstalling it, I tried using drivers from A200 (since Toshiba doesn't support drivers for Vista x64 for A100 line) and even got latest drivers from Synaptics website. Even Vista update got me new drivers - cool, I admit but it still doesn't work, although Windows does not seem to "know" about it... any help would be much appreciated :)

PS (optional problem) I also have 2 unknown devices according to Device Manager - since I have no idea what they are and because of the fact that I do not feel like I am missing anything - I simply gave up on those - at least for now ;)

Answer:Satellite A100 PSAAR: Synaptics touchpad not working on Vista Ultimate x64

Problem is that this notebook model is not supported for Vista 64-bit. I really don't know what you can try. Maybe to install driver designed for A300?

I really don't know. Can you use external mouse successfully?

Can anyone shed any light on why my touchpad mouse and buttons should stop working?

I have an external wireless mouse plugged in via USB but always have since purchase.

The control panel tells me it is working properly but whoops it isn't!

Answer:Satellite C50 - touchpad stopped working

> I have been through all the settings and it hasn't been changed to off when other device in use so I am confused.
Maybe the touchpad has been disabled?
Did you check if you can enable the touchpad using key combination FN + F9 (on some models this function has been changed to FN + F5)?

You can also go to control panel -> mouse -> Device settings tab
Here you will find an option called ?disable internal pointing device when external USB device is attached?.
Ensure the option is unchecked.

In case this does not help you, I would recommend reinstalling the touchpad driver

Did you test the touchpad without connected USB mouse?

Answer:Satellite M50-A - ELAN touchpad stopped working

Identical problem here. Satellite M50-A-11Q. Allowed windows update and touchpad and keyboard drivers are disabled.

Using an external mouse to access - currently doing a system restore to before the latest update. This looks like a fault at Microsoft's end.

Will update once I have a definite solution.

UPDATE: Restore has temporarily fixed the problem. Disabling windows update for the time being.

Hey lads

I got this Satellite L850 toshiba latop (faptop) and i'm having some issues.

When i turn it on nothing is wrong.
When i hit the first screen after logging on (windows 8) with all the options of what to do (desktop, internet etc.) none of my USB ports work and my laptop mouse (touchpad) does not work aswell.

The only keys that work are the F-Keys (F1, F2, etc.) just wondering if anyone knows what's wrong with it.

I did see a message when i was turning it on right at the first 'loading screen' (black background red text 'TOSHIBA' or whatever it says) saying that it was going to scan C drive and repair it.
It finished and turned itself off.

Being a person i turned it back on and this is when the problem happened.
Before this problem came up I was on it playing counter strike and this happened 10 minutes after it.

If anyone can help i'll appreciate it. thanks.

Answer:Satellite L850 - USB and touchpad stopped working

I guess there is some kind of software problem because the system has started the automatic repair process. Obviously this repair process has affected the keyboard, USB and touchpad device.

I guess the System refresh, reset, or restore would resolve your issue and therefore I think you should start with the option ?Refresh your PC? without affecting your files.

This option should be chosen if your PC isn't performing as well as it once did, and you don't know why, you can refresh your PC without deleting any of your personal files or changing your settings.
To refresh your PC
1. Start charm bar (Win key +C) click Settings, and then Change PC settings.
2. click Update and recovery, and then click Recovery.
3. Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, click Get started.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

If this would not help you, you could _Restore the PC to early point in time._
To restore your PC to an earlier point in time
1. Win key + X and then choose Control Panel .
2. Enter Recovery in the Control Panel search box, and then click Recovery.
3. Click Open System Restore, and then follow the instructions.

In worst case you would need to recovery the notebook back to factory settings using the Toshiba HDD recovery.

Answer:Satellite C50-B-189 touchpad and buttons stopped working

Hi, this is due to the pad driver (which is bugged), just kill the process using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC AND THE TAB plus DOWN ARROW to navigate to the target process. I have to do this each starts.

From tomsguide (november 2014):

These fixes don't help, all that happens is, after some time, the touchpad fails again. While Toshiba works on this, I have figured out a quick, effective workaround. This is for my new Windows 8 Toshiba.
Press CTRL ALT SHIFT to get your processes to come up. Find the Touchpad "enhancer" process. End the process. Your touchpad will work fine until next restart at which point just repeat this step.
If you are struggling to end the process without being able to use your touchpad, I found a curious thing out. If you hold a mouse click down, you can move the mouse arrow with the touchpad just fine. Its a bit... inconvenient...but all you need to do this for is to end that process and after that you can use the touchpad normally.

Is the touchpad listed in device manager properly or can you see a yellow exclamation mark?
What operating system you have?

And have you tested an external mouse? Does it work or shows the same strange behavior?

Theoretically in worst the touchpad could be malfunctioning and needs replacing? In such cases an ASP would help you.

My touchapad worked fine on both system 's and dedicated driver (synaptics). One day I turned it off using Fn + F9 and after that I coudln't turn it on. I used system driver then. So I installed Synaptics but it said there's no conpatible device to work with. I tried Alps - no result too. So I checked bios - Pionting Dev. is on. I did changed this option two times thinking it may help - no. Today it's about half a year since I'm forced to use usb mouse.

Yesterday I restored the system - I had whole, independent image. It was created when touchpad still worked. After restore touchpad does not work. So I decided to install fresh system - same problem. I almost thought that touchpad is broken. However, today I noticed that when I disconnect USB mouse, then betwen this action and system's sound (informing about this action) touchapad works - during about 0,5 s. It moves! But I didn't managed to turn it on.

I can't understand what's the point. I read few post on other forums. It seems that some other people have same problem. They have different notebooks but still from Toshiba. I think we need professional help. Can we get it?

Sorry for my english.
Best regards,

Answer:Satellite A350 - Touchpad stopped working

To be honest I haven?t found other similar threads so it doesn?t seem to be a common issue. Also the touchpad on my both Toshiba notebooks works perfect and never had a problem. Furthermore here it?s only an user to user forum where you can talk with normal people like you and me. If you want professional help you must get in contact with an authorized service provider.

Anyway, one point is not clear for me: You wrote about several system restores, images, etc. but what images you have used exactly?

In your case I would recommend a recovery installation from Toshiba recovery disk. The disk can restore the original factory settings (out of box) with all necessary drivers and tools. After this installation everything should work properly again.
If not it?s a hardware malfunction?

Use FN+F9 key combination and be sure touchpad is enabled.

Check also device manager and entry for ?Mice and other pointing devices?. Is touchpad listed there?

I have a Satellite L50Dt-A, part no. PSKM2A. It is running Windows 8.1.

Last night the touch pad suddenly stopped working, no curser on the screen.
The little mouse indicator on the touch pad wasn't and still isn't glowing.
So I've pressed the Fn F5 button so many times, but that hasn't turned it back on.

I went to the mouse properties in the control panel, and under hardware there is nothing listed.
In the device manager, there is nothing under mouse either.
So I went to the Toshiba site and downloaded the driver for the touchpad.

However, on installing, it said it can't because the computer already has one.
I need to uninstall it and reinstall.
However, I can't find the original synaptics touchpad driver anywhere to uninstall.

Everything is updated through windows update, and I have ran the trouble shooting tools, and have restarted, and nothing so far has worked.

I have since plugged in an external mouse so I can use that.
But I would love my touchpad mouse working again.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

Thank you

>Last night the touch pad suddenly stopped working...
I?ve never been faced with such problem but try at first to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore just to see what will happen.

In the whole story it is confusing that touchpad is not listed in device manager under ?Mice and other pointing devices?.

I really hope someone can help, I turned on my laptop earlier today and the touchpad won't work at all. I've tried system restore, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. When I go into device manager it says it's working fine but it's clearly not. I'm running windows 10 on satellite C55D-A-15H. Like I say it was working fine and now it just won't work at all

My main concern is that the mousepad on laptop is not working.

Dear Sir,

My problem is my touchpad is working at all, I usually enable it or disable it from an auto hide tab at the top of my desktop (which have been disappeared after I update to Vista SP1), after that and accidentally stopped the pointing device driver ,

I tried to re-install it again but I couldn't know which one is the correct driver for my laptop is it (ALPS pointing device Or Synaptics pointing device) ??

I tried to press the FN + F9 keys but I had no change the touch pad is not working, so I have to use a USB mouse..

Can you help please

note that I'm using Windows Vista Business SP1, Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7E)

Many Thanks

Have you checked the device manager? There you should normally see what touchpad you have exactly.
Then you can download on the Toshiba website the newest driver: => Support & downloads => Download Drivers

Hello Guys

My Keyboard & touchpad stopped working today.
Its a Satellite L750D Part # PSK36A-009008 Serial # 7B339221W

I've tried a restore to a earlier date

Can anyone help

Answer:Satellite L750D - Keyboard & touchpad stopped working

Sounds like hardware problem.
Try to set the notebook back to factory settings. I guess you would need to use an external USB keyboard in case the internal keyboard does not work.

Here an instruction how to perform a System Recovery?

Feedback would be greatly appreciated

The touchpad on my laptop stopped working suddenly. The two buttons below it work normally, though. When I wanted to open a link, I could always do it by gently hitting the touchpad once. Now it is unresponsive so I have to click on links with the left button. I tried to disable and enable synaptics (in Control Panel as well as by Fn F9) but to no avail. Any suggestions? I am afraid it's something that cannot be fixed because the laptop is already quite old (4 years) but I hope someone can prove me wrong.

For no reason at all. (as far as i can recall). I was just doing random stuff on pc (like every other time), surfing the web, while I just recognized my scroll on touchpad isn't working. I tried rebooting pc, turning touchpad on and off, but didn't hepled.

I have Satellite R850 2R notebook with win7 on it.

Try to check if Windows update has installed something today and roll back OS to earlier time (two days back if possible) using system restore tool.

I don?t know if this will help but you can try it. Several times I saw that synaptics driver update is offered by option windows updates.

Remember this recent thread?

Well guess what my mouse and touchpad stopped working again today, this time during a Windows update (rather than after) - and guess what... the "Elan - Other Hardware - ELAN Input Device" was one of the updates, same as last time.

The good news, for me anyway is that the problem was temporary this time. After forcing a reboot by a long press of the power key, mouse and touchpad functionality was restored after the updates finished installing.

EDIT - just to say that my touchpad customisations e.g. reverse direction of scroll, 3 finger press to launch browser etc. have all been lost. No big deal, just a nuisance

Answer:Satellite M50A - ELAN touchpad stopped working - again!

And as a follow up, having edited the registry to restore the functionality to launch my favourite browser with a 3 finger press (see another thread for reason for why I had to use regedit) I've had intermittent results.

I've now realised that the 3 finger "press" feature seems to have disappeared to be replaced with a 3 finger "touch". It's not documented that I can see, the registry key names have remained the same but pressing doesn't do anything while a lingering 3 finger touch does work.

I went to use my laptop today, and I discovered that the touchpad has stopped working. In fact, I was unable to even get past the sign-on screen, and if it weren't for the fact that I got a mouse arrow with a plug-in USB mouse, the laptop would be completely dead to me.

My son uses the laptop for Minecraft gaming, but I don't think that has anything to do with this. Even a reboot didn't change anything. I wonder if a Windows update screwed something up (again)? I'm at a loss. I'm not always where I can set up a physical mouse to use - and frankly I don't want to have to.

Any suggestions?

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite touchpad suddenly stopped working

Found the solution. When I pressed the F5 button (not Fn + F5), I got a popup that said "touchpad disabled." When I pressed it again, it said "touchpad enabled." I unplugged my USB mouse and tried again, and it's now working. What a screwed up design that allows a user to accidentally disable one's touchpad with an accidental press of the F5 key. Then you have to research the problem before figuring out the problem. Someone in the Toshiba laptop design department should be fired.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I have had my laptop for about a month by now and about a week in I plugged in an external USB mouse because I prefer it over the touchpad. One day I decide to unplug the external mouse and to use the touchpad for a little bit, but when I unplugged it and had the touchpad enabled, the touchpad did not work.

I tried to FN+F9 key combination numerous times but it doesn't work and I also have reinstalled the drivers for the touchpad numerous times and they have not worked either. I have also uninstalled the touchpad drivers and restarted the computer, letting the computer take care of reinstalling the drivers but the result was the same.

Does anyone have any other ideas or should I send my laptop in for a repair?

I have a serious problem in my Satellite A300-243. I installed using a CD a driver for external keyboard and after I restarted both keyboard and touchbpad stopped working and taking any order when I reach the vista welcome page.
What should I do because you know even I cant enter the windows to uninstall that driver.

Any way to do it while windows starting up?

Why you installed a driver for external keyboard? I never heard about such drivers?

Anyway, you should try to boot in safe mode and then you are able to remove external keyboard driver from software list. After restarting in normal mode, the touchpad and keyboard should work properly again.

Hi everyone,

I just bought my Satellite A500-1GL notebook today. I started it up and played around a bit (nothing serious). The touchpad was working fine at this moment.

Then I discovered that hardware update tool and started the BIOS update which worked without any problem. After that I rebooted the notebook, went to BIOS, loaded the setup defaults and saved it.
After Windows 7 (x64) was booted the touchpad didnt work anymore...

I downloaded the driver from here and installed it again, still not working. Then I went to BIOS again, disabled the touchpad (I thought its a bug maybe...) and booted again. Still not working...

I enabled it again in BIOS, tried to push Function + F9 but it still didnt work... Finally I used the recovery and did a fresh Windows 7 install.
But unfortunately it still doesnt work.

Now I'm out of ideas, anyone can help?
Is there a chance to get the old BIOS version again to downgrade it?

Thanks in advance ;)

Answer:Touchpad stopped working after BIOS update on Satellite A500-1GL

It sounds strange that after Bios update the touchpad doesn't work anymore.

> Is there a chance to get the old BIOS version again to downgrade it?

To be honest, i don't know where to get. Anyway, make a Google search. Maybe, other forum users can give you a link to download it.
The Bios downgrade is more risky procedure than upgrade. So, be careful the next time....
The advice for future; Don't touch the running system.

Good luck!

I have a Satellite L500D, model PSLT6A-015003 notebook, windows 7 (32 Bit) and the FN key(s) and the touch pad has stopped working.

I have downloaded from the Toshiba download page the touch pad and the FN key downloads, but nothing works.

Can someone please tell me how to get these working again, even if it is only the touch pad.

Answer:Satellite L500D PSLT6A - FN keys and touchpad stopped working

Flash cards are controlled by Flash cards utility and this utility is part of Toshiba Value Added package. If this package is installed on your machine remove it from the system, restart your notebook and install latest version from Toshiba download page.

Please test also follow option:
Open flash cards settings and enable option ?Allow the mouse to bring up the cards? and test if this works.

Please check touch pad properties. Check if touchpad is properly listed and enabled in device manager (Mice and other pointing devices).

Second thing that you should check is control panel > mouse > device settings (last tab). Be sure Synaptics touchpad is listed there and it is not disabled.
As last step be sure touchpad is not disabled with FN key combination (if possible).

my touch pad has started to act strange.

the left hand mouse button stopped working completely and the right hand one only worked intermittently, and whenever i clicked on tabs, whether it was firefox, IE, Safari, or anything in the menu bar at the bottom such as a folder or anything it would close it (no im not clicking the red X)

Then suddenly after a while it would all start working again. This has happened twice now.
Completely rebooting the system does nothing it just starts suddenly and stops suddenly but the periods for which it occurs seems to be getting longer.

Also the little touchpad icon in the corner with the cross through it decided to turn its self on a few days ago and i found out the touchpad had disabled on its own and figured out how to re-activate it.

I know its not a virus as ive run lots of different anti viruses on my system, and wondering if its time to take the computer back into the shop and get a replacement as ive only had it 4 months

Its really annoying as im a photographer and rely on this laptop for phot o editing. can someone please help :)
My model is the satellite P850-138

Answer:Satellite P850-138 - left hand touchpad button stopped working completely

From my personal opinion you should not replace this notebook until you did not try some workarounds.
First of all you don?t know if its software related issue.
The point is that if its software issue, you could solve this easily recovering the notebook using the HDD recovery option.

Please try to set the notebook back to factory settings using HDD recovery.
Press F8 -> choose Repair my Computer -> HDD recovery

If the HDD recovery would not be available there, press F12 and check if there is a HDD recovery option.
After system recovery, check the functionality of the touchpad and other notebook features.

I'm havin some issues with my synaptics touchpad. FIrst of all i think that overall precision is not very good.
Most of the time getting to a specific point is not easy and i need to make adjustments that are not needed.
One thing that MIGHT cause imprecision is the fact that the 2 click buttons are part of the touchpad and when u use them u might move the pointer a bit. Is there a way to exclude the buttons from the touchpad sliding and draggin etc.?

A weird aspect is that i got pointer speed (hope its the proper translation) at high value and it actually moves fast but when im dragging or moving objects in games or in graphics programs it gets slow...any idea on how to fix this?

Previously i had an old Tecra from 2010 but even though the touchpad was small i had no problems at all with precision and accuracy. Maybe fancy settings make things worse :P

Answer:Synaptics touchpad settings on Satellite L50-B

What to say about all this. For well working touchpad is important to have installed right driver. After driver installation hardware will be recognized properly.
Functionality is controlled with different options. There are standard Windows options and also additional options offered as small application designed by touchpad driver manufacturer.

All offered options allow notebook user to make best own touchpad configuration. Touchpad functionality is tested, so it should be OK.
All you can do is optimize touchpad functionality using offered options. Not more than that and as far as I know there are no some special “tricks” to change something.

How touchpad works n some third part applications like games is not east to test so check if certain game has some additional option where you can change mouse sensitivity or anything else.

By the way: do you use original preinstalled OS that you got with your machine?

it maybe one of the functions keys - on Toshiba and HP I know the function Key F9 or F11 with FN key
so you hold the FN key down (on toshiba a drop down menu appears at the top of the screen ) and then press f9 or f11 or any key that has a symbol that may look correct
that will toggle between enable and disable the touch pad

Hi. My touchpad  is not working. I tried all uninstall and reinstall the driver but doesnt work. I hope you guys can help me.

Answer:Synaptics Touchpad not working

Hi, You could try the following. Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.  Right click the Synaptics device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When this has completed, shutdown the notebook and then disconnect any peripherals ( ie usb mouse etc ). Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Let windows fully load and see if you have basic touchpad functionality - if you do, download and install the Synaptics driver below. When this installation has completed, restart the notebook again. Regards, DP-K

My computer is a Toshiba Satellite L305 and has a Synaptics TouchPad. I use Windows Vista.

For a few weeks I had been getting messages saying "Synaptics TouchPad has stopped working, click here to solve the problem" or something similar. I didn't think anything of it because the mouse was working fine, so I just hit the "X". I'm not even sure that is a part of the problem even because it has stopped coming up.

Lately the mouse will work fine and after being on the computer for about an hour or so, the mouse will slowly stop working. I can still click and when I tap the touchpad, that will still click. I just won't be able to move the mouse. Restarting the computer does not fix it. Usually I just plug in a mouse and use it for 20-30 minutes and by then the mouse is working fine again.

Any suggestions?

I keep getting a 'bubble' come up telling me that another pointing device is overriding my touchpad, and thus I am unable to use the touchpad because it freezes / jumps / constantly displays this message.

This started 4 weeks ago (only had the laptop 7weeks) and problem is becoming progressively worse; it starts quicker and only stops when I reboot (which takes a while with Vista!)

Had no reply and really at wits end. Its soooooooooo frustrating!

how can I disable tapping on a A210-103 with a Synaptics touchpad.
Tapping means to me that when I touch the touchpad the notebook translate it under circumstances as a mouse click which I don't want.

In the German settings I have found nothing like "tapping".

Answer:How can I disable tapping on Satellite A210-103 with a Synaptics touchpad

Hello Hans Juergen

Of course you can disable the ?tapping?.

I assume you want to disable this ?tapping? and instead of tapping you want to use the both touchpad buttons. Am I right?

This can be disabled in;
Control Panel -> Mouse -> last tab called ?Device Settings? (or similar).
There you have to choose ?Settings? of Synaptics TouchPad

The new window should open and there you could find many different details and settings.
You have to mark the second option ?tapping?. It?s under the point ?overview?.
There you have uncheck the option ?enable tapping?

That?s all ;)

Hi again.

Can I configure the clickpad in a way that the two-finger tap emulates the middle (or mouse wheel) click instead of the right click.

I can't seem to find it among the properties of the clickpad.

Thank you very much

Answer:Satellite L50 - Synaptics touchpad: two finger tap - middle click

The Synaptics touchpad can be found in
Control panel ? mouse ? last tab ?Device settings? ? ?Settings? button-

(the tab and button name could be different)

If the mentioned option isn?t available in the Synaptics settings, then the option isn?t supported

Hey guys again!

When I set up a new operation system sometimes (vista, 7) I always installed the Synaptics Pointing Device. And then, my Genius Ergo 725 Laser mouse driver was installed.
After these steps I turned on the "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" in Synaptics, so when I used my mouse, the touchpad didn't work, and when I disconnected my mouse I could use the touchpad. It?s normal I know.
It worked fine for a few weeks as I connected and disconnected.

BUT now
when I disconnect my mouse, I can't use my touchpad, it's simply not working, and if I connect my mouse again, my mouse doesn't work too. So I can't use my touchpad & mouse, just navigate with keyboard. I tried to uninstall & reinstall Synaptics and genius drivers, but nothing.

Also when this happens, I just restart my computer but when it's "shutting down" it freezes and doesn't restart or shut down. So I have to push the power button for a few sec.
If I don't disconnect my mouse while my OS running, or don't connect my mouse while OS is running, I can shut down and restart computer normally....
Now I have Windows 7 x86, but it happened with my Vista x86 too...

Strange problems, but I hope you can help!
Thanks forward.

This is a first time that I meet such issue?
I think it?s a OS issue? maybe something has been muddled up? updates? who knows?

I think firstly you should try to remove the touchpad drivers and software from the system and should clean the registry. I clean my registry using the CCleaner. It?s free tool.

After registry has been cleaned, reinstall the needed touchpad drivers and check if you can use the touchpad.

I'm on a Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop with Windows XP, and the other day when I hard-shutdown the computer and restarted, it booted up with a loud, long beep until I forced it to shut down again. When I restarted, the touchpad no longer functioned, and I've been using a USB mouse since. Also, occasionally the keyboard doesn't function after coming back from hibernating, though a restart fixes this.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics driver, but although the driver appears to have been installed (the Program Files are present, as is the Add/Remove entry), the Synaptics TouchPad is not listed under Device Manager nor is it listed under Device Settings in the Mouse properties under Control Panel. Why isn't the driver fully reinstalling back again?

I've read on other similar problems to try checking to see if power is being sent to these devices under the BIOS, but apparently Compaqs are notorious for being difficult to get into the BIOS, so I haven't had luck doing that yet. System restore to a day prior to the event didn't help. No function keys disable the touchpad, and the touchpad light is white, not red (meaning it's "on"). I'm still under warranty, but if I can fix this without having to wait for it to ship back and forth, that'd be much more preferable.

Any advice at all would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I am using Windows 10 version 1703 (OS Build 15063.413) on HP Notebook 1000. And just for reference I have encountered this issue in previous versions of Windows 10 as well. Every time I clean install Windows 10 and update to install drivers, it will work fine for about 1-2 months and then suddenly out of nowhere touchpad will either stops working or keeps moving itself after 5-10 minutes of restart ( even if I don't update Windows, means same drivers version ).

Right now I have installed version of Synaptics pointing device drivers. But I have tried to solve this issue by installing previous version of drivers as well ( version 8.xx, 10.xx, 17.xx, ). After installing drivers the first time it works fine for about 15 minutes and then same issue!

I have noticed this btw:
Every time I put the laptop to sleep and then log on, touchpad works fine for about 5 minutes.Every time I restart the laptop, it works fine for about 5 minutes.Even If I uninstall the drivers and use basic drivers by Windows 10, the same thing happens. Touchpad keeps flickering, moving itself or would just stop working.Sometimes Upper right or left corner of touchpad will work fine while the rest of the area is unresponsive.

Have anybody else encountered this issue? How did you resolve it? I don't wanna install Windows again or keep restarting my laptop.

I have researched this problem quite a bit and tried several possible solutions that have worked for many users yet nothing had worked. I have tried several different drivers, tried tweaking settings with no solution in sight.

I am using W7 build 7022.

Can anyone advise?

I currently have a HP pavilion tx2520ae laptop and now and again whilst im am working on it i suddenly get the message 'synaptics touchpad has stopped working with two options saying : close and check for a problem online and close', after this message appears the touchpad still works, however the scroll bar for the laptop does not, this is an inconvenience as i do alot of my school portfolios on my laptop, some of which are nearly 100 pages long and i am constantly editing it, so i need the scroll bar to save me time and effort.

When i restart the laptop however this problem is corrected, but after a while it appears again and constantly restarting the laptop every 10 minutes is just too much effort to waste on fixing a simple scroll bar.

When the message appeared, I had tried to go onto the mouse options on the control pannel and i got an error message saying 'unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device driver. if you have installed another PS/2 pointing driver please unistall the synaptics driver by clicking on the yes button. you then need to reinstall your pointing divce driver for your external device again.
Do you want to unistall the synaptics driver now?'

I have not installed any PS/2 pointing drivers but I decided to try and reinstall it again just to be sure but when I reinstalled it i had to restart my computer and when i came back on it was working fine... for a while. The message appeared again and reinstalling it was just a comp... Read more

Somethere I read that for touch pad to be working perfectly it has to be instaled Synaptics (the one i need for mine) and ALPS.

I was curios is that a fake info or it is working?

Answer:Do I need both drivers Synaptics & ALPS to get touchpad working?

Hi mate ;)

In my opinion you should install always both drivers.

Toshiba driver page ?More Info? said this:

_Alps Electric_ - This driver allows you to set the properties and functions for mouse control.
_Synaptics_ - This driver allows you to set the properties and functions for Touch Pad control.

I presume you need both drivers to get all the functions which can be changed in touchpad settings.

If you want you can try to install only one of the both drivers and then to check what settings are not available or what is missing exactly.

Hi there. I've recently started having touchpad problems with my beloved HP EliteBook Folio 9470m.  The issue:The Synaptics TouchPad and its 2 buttons (located just below the touchpad) do not work at all. However, the TouchStyk and its 2 buttons (located at the top of the touchpad) do work perfectly fine. How it started:I factory reset the ultrabook using the Windows 10 menu and when it started back up, everything was cleaned, but the touchpad and its 2 buttons (located below the touchpad) didn't work anymore. External mice do work when plugged. Common solutions that didn't work for me:-The orange light at the top-left of the touchpad is not lit up-Reinstalling the official drivers for Windows 10 ( different versions of drivers and even some for other brands of laptops-Resetting Windows 10 many times-Running driver scanning programs (DriversCloud, DriverScanner) Further notes:No matters which driver I install, the touchpad is always missing in the "Mouse properties" window. The last tab of the window should (if I am not mistaken) have both the Synaptics TouchStyk and TouchPad listed, but only the TouchStyk shows up. It appears as if the driver updated and might have corrupted something, or maybe it's overlapping with the old one and it didn't properly overwrite it (I'm running out of ideas...). Someone told me it might h... Read more

My first post! Hopefully NOT one of many.

I recently got a secondhand HP NX9105 laptop. I reformatted the hard drive and installed Windows XP (SP3).

All worked fine, except the touchpad isn’t working.

I could not see a driver for it so I went onto HP support website and downloaded the Synaptics driver (sp35444). The install got interrupted with the message "This Synaptics pointing device installation package does not support one or more of your pointing devices and will not be installed…".

I then tried the Alps driver (sp25796) and that installed (is visible in the Add/Remove Programs), but the touchpad still didn't work and it doesn't appear in either the Device Manager or in Control Panel->Mouse->Hardware tab.

Next I tried to install another version of the Synaptics driver (sp27681). This one installed so I then rebooted the laptop.

The touchpad still doesn't work, but now I have the Synaptics Device Settings tab in my Mouse settings. The problem is that all the buttons are grayed out and no devices are listed.

Is it possible that this is a hardware fault or is there anything else I need to download?

I'm really stuck now, please help...

I turned on my 6 months old Acer Aspire One as usual and realised that something was wrong with my mouse. The left button simply doesn't work. Neither does tapping the touchpad. Nothing happens no matter how many times I push or tap. I can move the cursor around just fine and the right mousebutton still works. I can also plug in a USB mouse and use that instead.
I have checked the mouse properties. Under the tab "Hardware" the mouse is listed "Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad", and the unit status says it works correctly. I also checked the preferences, and both tapping and buttons are activated and set to normal.
I have tried restarting, removing the battery and Fn-F7 without any luck.
I have also tried switching preferences to left-handed - that gave a funny result: Both the right button and tapping the touchpad functioned like a right-click except now they could also for instance close a window and open the start-menu. The left-button still didn't have any function what so ever.
Hope someone can help me.

Answer:left button not working on synaptics touchpad

I would suggest replacing the touchpad and buttons.

I have a Satellite A210, its about 3 months old now.
At the beginning when i tapped the top right hand corner of the mouse pad it turned a bright blue colour and i was able to use it to control the volume and open up to 6 areas with one touch.

However for the past month or so, for no apparent reason it no longer works, all i can do with it now is tap in the top right corner to expand a window and tap in the bottom left to minimize a window.

Can anyone help explain why this is?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as its very frustrating.

Answer:Satellite A210 - Synaptics Dual touchpad loses function

Such issues are not possible to explain because nobody here knows what you have done with your notebook. As fast solution you can try to roll back your OS to earlier time using System Restore tool.

Try it. Maybe it will work again. Please inform us about results.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 running 32 bit Vista, and I used to be able to scroll with the touchpad, however, it doesn't seem to be working any longer. Also, in the synaptics pointing device program, I am unable to configure actions to the left and right buttons. I checked apoint.exe and it seems to be working fine...does anyone know what may be causing this or how to fix it? What should I be reinstalling? It's very annoying and I'd like to be able to scroll without holding the button and dragging. Thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 Notebook - Synaptics Touchpad Not Scrolling?

It could be a hardware issue.

I had similar problems w/ notebook - mousepad had to be replaced.

You could try to un-install all drivers in Device Manager then re-boot. Vista will re-install. Also make sure to go to OEM site and get updated driver - if available.

Note that you will lose mouse function completely after un-install. Have USB mouse or b/c familar with CTRL-ALT-DEL that will get you to screen so you can use arrow keys to restart system

Hello, ASRR here.

I've been having a problem with my Synaptics touchpad driver since yesterday. I am very used to using the "gestures" to work with my touchpad and the gestures haven't worked properly (in fact at all) for a while. The two-finger scrolling, the three-finger touch and others (actually all of the gestures) do not work anymore.

The cursor moves, and works fine but the gestures don't.

When I go to the Mouse option in the Control Panel, a window pops up stating that the PC is "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver." and asks me whether I want to uninstall it.

I have tried uninstalling it, then going on the support page for Toshiba and downloading a driver that was suitable for my model, operating system, etc.

When I set up the driver I downloaded and restart the PC, the same window pops up when I try and go to the Mouse options in the Control Panel and the gestures do not work.

One interesting thing I noticed however, is the fact that when I roll back the driver (in the Hardware properties- then settings) the gestures work FINE. However, as it always asks you to restart the computer in order for the Rolling back of the driver to take place, when I do restart it, it sets the Microsoft touchpad driver from 2006; which does not include the gestures I need.

I have tried multiple times to fix it but I can't. I went to the UEFI firmware set up and tried resetting it to default but with no success.

How to understand this? Have you tried to set your notebook to ?factory settings? again?
To be honest I don't understand what is wrong there. I also thought that new driver installation may help but obviously there is no much help.

I don't know if this is an option for you but you can set notebook to factory settings again and I hope everything will be work properly again. Before you do this try also to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore option.

One more thing: it has nothing to do with your touchpad issue but I recommend you to create recovery media (recovery image back-up) using preinstalled recovery media creator.

Hello all.

I see from previous posts that this issue has been addressed in some way or another a few times and I have tried several of the fixes, and have had no success.

1. I have a toshiba L300 next to me(girlfriends), and this feature works fine. V annoying!!
2. I have never been able to enable the scrolling. I know where the setting are and have tried to check/uncheck the boxes/ press 'apply' then ok and the other way around.
3. I have re-installed the drivers from toshiba(synaptics).
4. I have updated the bios from tempro. Although I only registed for tempro recently, the dates on the list of updates seemed fairly old. ie. not much new stuff available anyway.

Thats where im at!
All advice would be apreciated.
Also, are Realtec drives related with the touchpad in some way??
Cheers Phill
I have about a month left on the warranty, so hopefully this would be something that may be covered if no-one can help.

Answer:Satellite Pro A210 touchpad synaptics cannot enable virtual scrolling.

In my opinion everything you already done is right and I?m really out of idea what you can try except most radical solution ? OS installation with recovery CD/DVD. After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again. As far as I know virtual scrolling is enabled by default and it should work after first start.

So doing this you can make the ?ultimate test? and be sure if this function works or not.
