Satellite P200 freezes after 5-10 min and need multiple reboot to work fine

Question: Satellite P200 freezes after 5-10 min and need multiple reboot to work fine

Sorry in advance for my poor level in english because im french ...

My p200-1de has a strange problem :

Every day when i start a new session, it work fine (booting until the desktop) and i start to work.
After 5-10 min, windows vista (ultimate) freeze and i need to stop/reboot many time to finally success and boot until the desktop.
Sometime i need to boot in safe mode without network and wait on desktop for 5 min

It seems like some part or piece of the notebook need to be hot to work fine (something twisted maybe)

I cleaned with dry air the fans windows without improvements. I bought new memories from toshiba in france and the problem is still there. The hard disks are ok (scanned and tested)

The warranty is ended last january so ...

Does someone have any idea?

thanks

Preferred Solution: Satellite P200 freezes after 5-10 min and need multiple reboot to work fine

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite P200 freezes after 5-10 min and need multiple reboot to work fine

Try installing the latest Windows Updates.
If not I'd suggest you do a CLEAN install. If your laptop came with a DVD disc labelled "Windows Anytime Upgrade", then use that and download the drivers from the Toshiba Website. If it asks you for a product key, there should be one underneath your laptop.

If not, then use the recovery discs that came with your laptop.

Hello,

On Satellite P200-1BY, on reboot, the wi-fi turns off on reboot. The switch then is useless.
I don't know where does this come from, and another reboot set the thing right.

Hi,

I put Windows XP with SP2 on my P200-140 after purchasing it last week.
For some reason it sometimes freezes, but recovers by itself after around 10 minutes or so.

This only happens twice per day at most and sometimes happens while only runnig 1 or 2 programs...

I have installed all the latest Windows updates as well as the latest BIOS update.

I will probably re-install XP, but thought that someone might have a simpler fix.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite P200-140 sometimes freezes in XP

Simply fix???

Well? you could fix this if you would know what the problem exactly is!
But I don?t think that someone here will be able to say what causes these strange hangups.

It would be firstly very interesting to know if the notebook runs correctly with the original delivered OS (vista).
Try to install the OS from recovery CD.
In such case the notebook will run with the factory settings.

You should test this without any installation of the 3rd party software and programs.
If the system will run stable, then this is definitely not a hardware problem but software issue.

I am running windows XP home edition SP 2, accessing internet via Road Runner. I upgraded Internet Explorer. It froze so I killed it and restarted again. It finished properly the second time, or so it seemed.

IE7 ran OK the first time. The 2ns time it froze on a blank window. No toolbars, no status bar, no nothing, just the frame and blank inside.

Other symptoms: Internet Options opens up OK from the control panel, and every tab seems OK, but when I go connections, LAN settings, the button shows depressed, and the thing freezes.

I can access the WWW without a problem via Firefox. Outlook sends and receives email without a hitch. But any program that checks internet options to see about proxy settings or similar, freezes. Example Intellicast and the Zinio reader. Example the setup program for Max Registry Cleaner and Registry Mechanic.

I ran a virus scan with AVG. The machine was clean. I cleaned up the registry with RegistryFix. There were a lot of lose ends, now it is clean. I ran AVG Anti Spyware. It has a residue of 45 tracking cookies, nothing else. I uninstalled Intellicast and the Zinio reader. Nothing made a difference.

Here is the log from Hijack This. I will be most thankful for your help in figuring out this one.

Hi,

I have laptop Toshiba P200-1JR, and I'm satisfied by performances.

Unfortunately, I have experienced few problems for which I'm not sure if they are hardware (manufacture) or driver (software) problem.

1. Display sometimes (maybe once a week) suddenly gets blank. Nothing special wasn't done previously, which shpuld be the trigger. Just at once. Only reboot helps.
2. The same as 1, but previously dislplay just for few second gets crazy. Some side lines (like magnetic interrups) are on screen.

I've just downloaded bunch of driver updates (haven't applied them yet), but I want to ask before is this problem already known?

Best Regards,
Vladimir Stefanovic

Answer:Satellite P200-1JR: Display suddenly gets blank only reboot helps.

I've applied most of the updates available on Toshiba site for this model, including BIOS update.

But the problem persists!

The screen started blinking uncontroled for about 15 seconds, then it become completely blank.

Then I've pressed Power button [Sleep mode], and again the same button [Wake from sleep], and the machine continued working normaly.

I'm not sure but I think that previously (before BIOS update) I had to restart the machine in order to get it work again.

I'm interested if anyone here had similar problem?

(I ask this because I want to know should I return it to salesman or should I wait for some update)

Hello, the puter is my
DELL laptop Latitude D600, W2K SP4,
Intel Pentium M 1,4 GHz

It used to be my work laptop, but I saved it from beeing discarded. I no longer have access to the company network, but the company domain has still stayed as the login domain.

My problem is that once or twice a day the computer freezes so that everything lags very much. Mouse becomes erradic and moves for a second then freezes for a second, moves and so on. You can move it carefully and it will respond after the freeze to the movements You made during the freeze time. Difficult and frustrating. Same with keyboard. It will be fine after a reboot but even getting the reboot is frustrating because either by mouse or by CTRL-ALT-DEL the restart is a pain to achieve because of poor response.

I dont know what is hogging the system resources. I cannot find anything in the task manager information and I have no know security issues or threats.

I use AVIRA and ZoneAlarm free versions and I have CCleaner 1.36.430 running /auto with startup

Hi All, I have the following system:

Satellite P200-17C
Intel? Centrino? Core?2 Duo Processor T5450
Genuine Windows? Vista? Ultimate Edition
DVD Super Multi drive (Double Layer)
2,048 (1,024 + 1,024) MB
17.1 " Toshiba TruBrite? WXGA+ TFT display

The issues I am having is that when I start the laptop it freezes at the Windows Vista loading bit. I can then get no further.

I did some research on the internet and it advised removing the DVD drive and then start the laptop. I have done this and it does actually go past the Windows load but then the screen goes blank for awhile, finally it goes into CHKDSK - here it always freezes at 31%. I have been able to access Advanced Boot Options but it freezes trying to get into Safe Mode. I do not have a recovery disk at hand, however, I do have a Vista OS disk, I can also access the BIOS.

Please advise as to how I should proceed? Thanks

Answer:Satellite P200-17C - Freezes at Vista loading

Hi masave,

If your notebook also freezes if you enter the safe mode of Windows it seems that the OS is muddled up and probably you have to reinstall it?

In your case I would do a recovery installation. You can use the HDD recovery feature of your notebook. Go into advanced boot menu of Windows (F8) and select ?Repair my computer?. The recovery installation will start now.

I had install Windows XP on Satellite P200-199. After installation Toshiba Hotkey Utility consists only Fn+F3 and Fn+F4 keys, and I cannot change screen brightness. How can I solve this problem? All XP drivers and programs downloaded from Toshiba site and installed in properly order. BIOS version is last (1.7.0). I cannot work under Vista, and I choose Toshiba only for possibility of XP installation :). If exists the way to change screen brightness without hardware key (i.e. through some program or control panel applet), it's acceptable too.

Thanks.

P.S. On Toshiba site there is no version of Toshiba power saver utility for XP (for Satellite P200), but I try to install 7.08.05 version - it's dont working (CANNOT open because you DO NOT have rights to "TOSHIBA Power Saver"). I have administrator rights (install from Administrator).

I installed Windows XP SP2 on a pre-installed Vista Satellite P200. All features work fine except the numeric pad which runs under Vista but not under WXP.
Is there a specific driver I should install?

Answer:Numeric pad does not work under WXP on my Satellite P200

Usually you must not install a special driver since it?s a normal keyboard. Did you installed ALL available drivers from the Toshiba Drivers Download page?
If not, then do this and check if it works. If yes, go to the "Device Manager" and remove the keyboard (simply remove/deinstall it), after a restart the driver should be reinstall itself automatically.

I am not sure why it does not work because the keyboard is connected trough the internal PS/2 port which recognize the keyboard as usual..

Keep me informed about your success...

Anyone who can help me out on this?
thanks very much.

Answer:Webcam does not work on Satellite P200-14N

Hello

On my friends P200 web cam works fantastic. The usage is very simply. As far as I know web cam software starts automatically when OS starts and you can see small icon placed in the task bar near the clock.

To start webcam software you must move the mouse on the left side of the screen because there is placed ?hidden? toolbar?. By default the tool bar is hidden. Check it please.

Hi everyone.

Ok so we have a product recovery disc and we tried to reinstall Windows but it wouldnt work. Some of our programs like Bluetooth and the built in webcam dont work for no reason. Other programs like Google Earth and AVG the antivirus program we cant get off our system.

Does anybody know what we should do?

Much apreciation,
Musa

Answer:Satellite P200-10G - Some programs don't work

Have you installed the notebook using Toshiba recovery disk or with a Microsoft disk?

Normally after the recovery disk all devices like Bluetooth should work without problems. The recovery disk contains already all drivers and tools.

Anyway, can you explain what you mean with it doesn?t work? Are all devices listed properly in device manager?
Maybe you should try to update the driver. You can find all on the Toshiba European driver download page. Check this!!!

Furthermore you should explain what you mean with the programs. Do you get an error message or something else?
Make sure that all service packs and Hotfixes are installed for your OS.

Sorry buddy but at the moment I can?t say more. We need an exact problem description.

This is really odd and I work with PCs for years and know abit about them. I have a TOSHIBA Satellite P200-1JV ( great laptop by the way).
It has 6 USB ports. All are in the system of the Vista control panel. Only the 4 right hand side ones work.

I have tried all sorts of USB devices in the 2 that don't.
Here is where gets is really strange; my Palm 750 phone works, but thats it.

My mouse, external drive don't etc.
I have even removed them for the system and rebooted and this has not fixed the problem.

Help!

Answer:Satellite P200-1JV: 2 USB ports don't seem to work

Hmmm? did it appear from the first day?

Possibly it?s only a system issue? I mean, maybe some registry entire or system files are damage? ?:|

You said you?ve already removed the USB controllers and hubs from the device manager and reinstalled it again? am I right???

If not then do this? remove the USB device manager entries and reboot the unit.

After new reboot the OS should install the driver and should refresh the USB ports.

Check it out

Hello,

I have a dual-boot configuration and I have come across a problem. I have XP and Vista installed and in XP the FN keys don't work. I had a look at the installation instructions and it said something about Fn-Esse. Can anybody help me fix this?

Thanks
Neo-Tech

Answer:Satellite P200-144 FN Keys don't work

If I?m not mistaken the P200-144 belongs to the PSPBGE series and the Toshiba European driver page doesn?t provide any details about the FN-Esse driver or something like this?

As far as I know the Hotkey Utility driver must be installed to control and to use the FN buttons.
You should also note that the right driver installation procedure is very important.
If you install the drivers or utilities in the wrong order then some functions could not work as should.

On the European driver page you should find an txt file called installation instruction.
Follow this order and install everything like mentioned there.

I'm running Windows XP and am having issue with Outlook 2003.

I open Outlook when I boot up my computer and it works fine. I'm using it for Contacts and Calendar mainly, no to send emails. I minimize it to the taskbar and then go about my business opening new programs, etc.

After about 10 minutes, if I try to toggle back to Outlook and open it up, it gives me a blank white screen. Nothing I do will revive it. After I CTRL ALT DELETE to close Outlook and then try to reopen Outlook...it doesn't open. I have to actually restart the computer for it to work again.

Here's some background that might shed more light on a potential problem:

I'm 2-Way syncing Outlook with Google Calendar. I also have MobilMe and am syncing Outlook with MobileMe. I'm not sure if this could be causing a problem with Outlook.

I've even removed and re-installed the entire Microsoft Office 2003 Suite hoping that would fix the issue, but it hasn't.

One interesting thing is that when I re-installed Outlook, it automatically found my .pst file (which I don't store on the C drive...I moved it to my D drive). I usually have to remove the .pst file from where it normally resides by default and then Outlook will ask me where is the file and then I tell it. I'm curious how it remembered my .pst file was on my D drive if it was a clean install?

Thanks in advance if you can help me.

Hi,

I need the FN keys for when I do NOT want somebody to move the mouse. 2. The Toshiba Power Saver again does not work, I am always getting a message "CANNOT open because you DO NOT have rights to "TOSHIBA Power Saver".
Can somebody please help, I have rebuilt twice and I am getting the same effect for both problems

Answer:Satellite P200 - under WXP FN Keys dont work

Hi

Regarding the FN buttons;
Seems that the BIOS version does not support 100% the Win XP and therefore not all FN keys functions!

Regarding the Toshiba Power saver;
Please be sure that you are logged as Windows Administrator! This is important.
Furthermore you will find Power saver driver and Power saver utility on the Toshiba driver page. The power saver Driver must be installed at first step. Then reboot the notebook and install the Power saver utility!!!

By the way; I hope you have followed the installation instruction mentioned in the text file placed on the Toshiba driver page! These steps are important and necessary if you want to install Toshiba drivers on the notebook.

Answer:Satellite P200-1JR subwoofer doesn't work

Hi

What do you mean exactly by ?subwoofer does not work??

Can you hear a sound or bass coming from the subwoofer?

Maybe you?ve got wrong sound settings on the P200???

In the product flyer is something mentioned with Toshiba Bass Enhanced Sound System with Dolby Home Theater.

In my opinion you should check if this feature was enabled.
To enable the Dolby Home Theater do the following:

Go to _Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound_
Mark the Speaker -> Properties -> Choose the Dolby tab and check the "Dolby Home Theater".

Unusually this should helps to get all the speakers working!!!

The HD DVD refuses to work on my new laptop p200 1EE.
I have read some of the postings with similar problems, it takes hours to download any updates software, firmware etc.
Configure with no success.

I only received my free HD DVDS about 4 days ago and have complained to toshiba.
I cant even get the player to come on screen as toshibas HD DVD player.

I can only get windows media player.
I mean you wouldn't buy a television and dvd player and search around for parts to get it to work.
Its ok upgrading software to get extra facilities on equipment but for it to not even work.

Any suggestions.

Hi

Yes, I think I can help you.

Please update the Toshiba HD-DVD player and the drives firmware!
Both updates can be found on the Toshiba European driver page!

Fact is that the HD DVD is a new technology and there are differences between single mediums. There are different standards? it looks like this was not known to you?

However, the firmware update and the HD-DVD player update helps to sort this out!

I too have that problem. You can temporarily cure it by going to Device Manager and updating the driver for the webcam (perhaps automatically, I always choose manual and then pick either USB Video or Chicony USB 2.0 webcam device). Don't forget to reboot.

I say temporarily because I find that after another reboot, the camera will stop working again. Let me know if you have that problem too.

Hi
I have a Satellite P200-RT1, PSPBOC.
I have downgraded my operating system from Vista to XP.

Now I am having a driver issue, I have installed all of the drivers for my computer. I have installed all of the HotKey utilities for my computer as well and I still have an issue. Some of my FN Key functions don't work. The ESC to F5 Functions work but all of the functions above there do not.
I am really looking for the Display Brightness and Dimmer keys F6&F7 to work, if possible I would also like the F9 key touch pad enable/disable key to work as well, which as of right now they don't.

I was wondering if there is a driver that I am missing and if so which driver is it. I have taken my computer into three computer shops now and no one can figure this out. Please Help ME!

Thanks Ken.

Answer:Satellite P200-RT1 - FN keys don't work after downgrade to XP

Hello

It seems that your notebook is a Canadian model and therefore you can download the drivers on the Toshiba Canada website:
http://www.toshiba.ca

The problem is that I can?t find Windows XP drivers on this website. :(
The only way I know is that you try the drivers and utilities from the European website. Normally the models are very similar and maybe it works. It?s worth a try.

Try to download and install Toshiba Accessibility and Controls (Driver).

This is my kids' computer, we've had it almost one year. It used to work without any problems until about 3 months ago. Every minute or so, Lego Star Wars game freezes, will then unfreeze and work fine for another minute or so, somethimes it crashes completely. Usually after starting game, the screen will blank and the game minimizes itself, you can then maximize and it works fine. I've tried everything I can think of: uninstalled game, reinstalled game, virus scans, spyware scans, driver updates, defrag, disk clean, increased paging file size... If I'm using Radeon 9250 PCI, shouldn't the Intel 828656 Graphics Controller be disabled? Maybe one of the recent automatic updates changed the driver settings. Any advice?

Hi there folks,

I was hoping to start using my toshiba Satellite P200-17C laptop as my dj player for shows.
I bought a phono to rca cable.

However, it only works through the headphones input at the front. I checked the volume mixer and nothing is muted. I am trying to find out if there is something wrong with the other three inputs at the front.

From what I have been told, the line out input should work as well as the headphones.

The first input with the musical note marking does nothing when headphones or the RCA cable go into it, neither does the second which is a mic input so that's understandable. The third one (a circle with an arrow marking) cuts the music from the laptop speakersbut still nothing in the headphones. The final headphones works fine.

Thing is, I need to hear the sound on headphones to cue up the next track.

Any ideas guys?

Answer:Satellite P200-17C: Sound line-out does not work correctly

Hello

I would like to know what you want exactly. Do you want to start some player on your notebook and listen music on external speakers? If yes, than use the cable and connect it to headphone port (the first one from the right hand side).

>From what I have been told, the *line out input* should work as well as the headphones.
It cannot be line out input. It is line in only. That means you can use this port to send signal into your notebook.

Hi!

My Satellite P200 just become an expensive paper weight :( I started the provided BIOS update software, which stalled and in the end restarted the computer.
After that, I get only a power led on, the computer checks for cd/hdd but everything is dead.
I researched this thoroughly and I tried the phoenix crisis recovery software with an USB diskette, using the provided .ROM file as BIOS.WPH.

The computer goes into recovery mode when I pres Fn - B on start-up, sometimes reads the floppy disk for about a minute or 2, but after that nothing. I restart the computer but ... the same.

I get no beeps or anything. Is there a service manual available somewhere, or an older BIOS version? Maybe the latter one is not too good.
I really don't want to give up yet. Anyone with similar experiences?

This built-in Chicony webcam is slowly driving me demented.

Sometimes it works (not since last week though). Usually I get a message saying it is locked by another application - or it doesn't exist. Now I can't even view friends' webcams.

The cam opens on my screen and looks perfect but no one can see me! When I try to view a friends' cam, I am told that it's not connected.

Now I checked my Device manager and it's not even installed anymore - just gone! I did download the recommended driver from Toshiba Europe (camsoft-2007081.......), unzipped it, ran it, rebooted but seemingly my notebook cannot detect the webcam - even though it flashes a blue light!

Please . . . take me out of my misery SOMEONE!

Thank you, merci, gratias, go raibh míle, etc., etc.

Answer:Chicony 1.3 webcam on Satellite Pro P200 does not work properly

I have read that sometimes the internal TV tuner could lock the internal webcam and therefore this error message would appear.
But as far as I know this notebook was not equipped with the internal TV tuner and therefore this possibility is not relevant.

Fact is that any application locks the webcam software. In you case you would recommend starting the ?msconfig? and to disable firstly the webcam services which are running in the background. Then enable it again.

In most case this helps!
By the way; I have noticed this issue only using yahoo and ms messenger. Skype runs ok!

I mad a goo experience with this kind of DVD disk.

I had a similar issue. My burned DVDs didn?t work in one of my DVD players.
One player could read it but the other didn?t.

I tested the DVD-R from TDK and it worked on both players

Hi.
I'm getting desperate. I tried everything I could imagine.

First - don't get the catalyst control center to work, I only have the graphic driver installed now (tried both - the one from Toshiba and with Mobility Modder modified ATi driver - none works.
Second - when I install the sound driver the Realtek sound manager is encoutering the problem and must close every time at startup. And yes, I did update the BIOS to ver. 5.20, installed XPSP3, installed chipset driver (newest from Intel homepage or the one from Toshiba, no matter which, always same issue).

Please help. I don't want to spend rest of my life trying to get XP onto my laptop.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite P200-1K8 - Can't get the display and sound drivers to work

Hello

Can you please explain what you mean with you can?t get it to work?
You should try to install the drivers from the Toshiba website but before you do this remove the old version in Add & Remove programs, reboot the notebook, use CCleaner to clean the registry and then install the new version.

Check the Toshiba website for the newest drivers:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

And have you installed the notebook using Toshiba recovery disk or Microsoft disk? Maybe you should try it with the Toshiba recovery disk?

I?m wondering that you want to try the Catalyst drivers? Theoretically they can work but they don?t have an overheat protection. You can damage your graphic card and this is on your own risk ;)

I'll begin by saying how it happened:

My PC used to be filled with junk files and had some viruses that got through my anti-virus and couldn't be cleaned. One of my co-workers suggested I do a factory reset, and while I am an avid gamer, I don't really understand much when it comes to hardware, so I let the IT company I usually go to do the reset.

Prior to the factory reset, I had many games on my PC - Two of them were League of Legends, and the non-steam version of an MMORPG called Wakfu.

After the reset, I redownloaded these games, and once I opened the launchers for either of these two games, my PC screen froze.

Hi Guys (and girls)

I fully appreciate that other threads have been posted offering help in updating the drivers and firmware for the HDDVD player - unfortunately non of them really helped me (although thanks to everyone that posted to try and help out). If you're in the same boat, then I may be able to help you.

Im not a techie at all, and even though I followed the advice I still couldn't get the player to work even after downloading and installing all of the suggested files.

However, after searching around on the internet, I think I've found an easy solution.
Go to the following webpage: http://www.toshibaer.com/firmware/index.php?path=TS-L802A/

Then, download and install the file called TS-L802A/TS-L802A_RATF32.zip

Once you restart your computer, wait for the software to update, and you should be able to play HD DVDs.
By the way, I'm using Windows Vista and was trying to watch the film '300' on HDDVD.
Enjoy watching your HDDVDs.
I hope this has been helpful to some of you.

Cheers

Mike

Thank for this information
I have already noticed the first HD DVD drive firmware update here:
http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB7101OI000BR01.htm

There you can get the RATF31.zip

It seems the new RATF32.zip was released. This are very good news!!!

By the way; I would ALWAYS recommend checking the newest firmaware updates on the Toshiab driver page!!!

Answer:Satellite P200 (PSPB6E): Downgrading Vista to WXPPro SP2 does not work

I had the same problem...

Try to use NLite
With this free tool you can create a custom XP installation disk (ofcourse you need a working pc to run this tool....).

It images your xp-cd and you have the option to add drivers. the drivers you need to add for the xp installation to work are in the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager-7.5.0.1017" zip [link|http://nl.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/tracker.jsp?file=http%3a%2f%2fsupport2.toshiba-tro.de%2ftedd-files2%2f0%2fstormng-20070827133046.zip]

I used the drivers in the ICH8M_32bit directory.

Somewhere in this forum the use is explained better, I also found it here.
good luck!

After upgrade to vista ultimate the web camera was not working. After some search i found that i had to change the driver to usb video camera which i made.

Everything is working fine now except the snapshot button of the camera software. Video and audio recording is working fine. Snapshot button is not working after clicking it. Can anyone help me solve this too.

Answer:Satellite P200-10C: Camera does not work after upgrade to Vista ultimate

Hi,

did you reinstalled the camera software (not just the drivers) which controls the special functions like that snapshot-thingy?

It should help to reinstall everything since vista is confusing every driver/software to the maximum.. :)
Would appreciate some feedback on your success.

I am using a Satellite P200 (PSPBGA) and have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.

However the Toshiba Fingerprint Utility and Chicony Web Camera Assistant Software both don't work. I have checked and there are no new updates on the Australian website.

Can you please help me out with these two issues?

Answer:Satellite P200 (PSPBGA) - Fingerprint and webcam don't work on Windows 7

Hi buddy,

I think in this case you can do nothing. I mean Windows 7 isn?t on the market as yet and at the moment are no drivers available. You can only try the Vista drivers because the most of them are also work on Windows 7.

Alternative I have founded on the Toshiba US page some Windows 7 beta drivers. Maybe they are working:

Hello,

because my laptop (Satellite P200 - I bought it in dec. 2007) didn't work properly anymore - and when after a lot of cleaning up it still didn't work properly - I decided to start from the beginning and restore the operating system with the 2 product recovery cd's/dvd's.

Product Recovery Disk 1/2 worked fine - Windows Vista Home Premium is loaded again on my computer.

But what abot *Product Recovery Disck2/2*??
At one point the recovery program asks for an 'ADD-ON' but when I put in Product Recovery Disk 2/2 at that moment the program doesn't recognize the disk. During the rest of the recovery program the program doesn't ask for Product Recovery Disk 2/2, so the content of that cd-rom/dvd now isn't loaded on my laptop.

Has anyone had this problem too?
What did you do about it?
Is it a problem not to have loaded the content of Product Recovery Disk 2/2 (can I go without it?)?

Thanks in advance for any reactions!

Hi

I don?t know what Add-ons the tool asked for but as far as I know the Toshiba image contains the Vista OS, Toshiba drivers and the additional software.
So if you have recovered the notebook using the Toshiba Recovery disk 1 then the notebook should be set to the SAME state like at the first day of purchase.

PS: what files can you find on the second disk?

Satellite Pro P200, purchased Jan 2008.

Managed to disable on board speakers somehow, trying to turn them off so that when I had the USB speakers up loud the built-ins wouldn't interfere with the sound.

Installed P200_X200_Audio_Vis3264_6015477_1.exe driver.

Speakers work fine now - microphone doesn't.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Dave

Answer:Satellite Pro P200: Reinstalled audio driver - microphone doesn't work

Have you checked the audio settings in Windows?
Maybe the microphone is muted or the volume is on the lowest level. Did you check this?

Furthermore I would recommend reinstalling the sound card driver. Remove the old version first, restart the notebook and then install the newest version from the Toshiba website.

Are you running the factory settings or have you installed your own Windows version?

I have just bought a Satellite P200-1B6 laptop and spent the day installing the updates recommended by the TEMPO program. One of these was a Sound Driver update from RealTek but on running this it fails about 80% of the way through with an error: 'Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !!'.

Now the Toshiba HD DVD player fails to start with an error 'Unable to output the video to an external device.

Please switch your display device by pressing the Fn + F5 keys after ending the application'. I've tried this but it seems to have no effect.

I'm now regretting starting to update the installed drivers. Should I try to rebuild the machine using the recovery discs or is there another solution that someone has found? Or have others found the upgrade works?

Any advice welcome

Answer:Satellite P200-1B6: Sound Driver update fails and HD-DVD Player doesn't work

Hello

When I have started to use PCs one friend of mine told me something: do not touch well running system. I know that you, as many other people out there, want to have updated stuff but as you can see it can go in the wrong direction.

This TEMPO software is nice thing but if everything runs well leave it as it is. What you can try is to use ?system restore? tool and roll back OS to earlier time and hope everything will be OK again.

Please post the result.

Hi, I've been struggling with this issue since November 2. Every day I go through a cycle of reboots until I get my PC to work. The following things happen, pretty much in a consistent order:
1. PC starts normally, loads Vista and then about 1 minute after logging PC shuts down.
2. I try to reboot, it freezes at the first screen (the one that has options to press "del" of "F12".
3. Trying to reboot again, the monitor stays offline, the PC turns on and produces a loud buzzing sound which stays on until I shut the PC down. This repeats again and again. Usually at this stage I power the PC off, sometimes 2-3 times, and after a couple minutes the sound stops and the PC boots on.
4. When it boots on, it gives me two options: start Windows normally or run a safety check. I tried to run a safety check. It says it tries to find corrupted files to repair, runs for a long time, says finally that there were corrupted files but it could not repair them, and offers to reboot.
5. If I choose to start Windows normally, usually it does boot and takes me all the way through to Vista. After that it works alright for the remnant of the evening.
The antivirus is up to date and finds no issues. I tried to shut down various drivers to see if any one is responsible, but the problem is, after the PC starts working ok, it goes on ok for the remaining time of the day, so it is tough to find the cause of the initial issue. I restored the system from a backup point about two weeks pr... Read more

Hi
I am having a problem with my Satellite A200. I have no problems when I charge the battery and just run off the battery, however, as soon as i plug the adaptor back in I have problems.

The machine seems to freeze and the screen has differnt colours on it in lines and blocks.
I have purchased a new adaptor but same problem persists.

Answer:Satellite A200 works fine on battery but freezes when power adaptor added.

I think this issue is definitely for professionals and I recommend you to contact nearest authorized Toshiba service provider.
Explain the situation and let them check your notebook.

This A200 is older notebook model and I cannot imagine you have been faced with described issue from the first day so I?m afraid there must be some hardware related problem and to fix this you need professional help.

Hi

I'll be buying the Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-153 vista laptop, but i intend to use XP on it.
If i wipe out the complete vista and install XP and then use all the drivers listed on this site for XP, would my system work fine with XP although it was a vista laptop?

I do not see any reason why it should not work well. If Toshiba offers drivers for this notebook model it must be tested already.

For WXP installation I recommend you to use WXP SP2.
Do not vorget to create recovery DVD before you remove Vista from the system.

Hello,

I have a sound problem with my computer (satellite L 70)
I've tried everything but nothing to do, no sound output, but by plugging headphones into the audio port its working well, then I uninstall Conexant reinstall, same for dts sound but its still not working,

thank you

Answer:Satellite L70 - no sound from speakers but headphones work fine

In my opinion the notebook symptoms are clear enough: it does not look like sound driver or system problem because the sound appears using the headphones.

I think the internal speakers are faulty?. it looks strange to me that both speakers started to malfunction at the same time but such issue could happen.

But before you would contact the Toshiba authorized service provider for fix, I would recommend you to recover the notebook just to be 100% sure that this issue is not related to software/system fault.

Answer:Satellite T110-107 - Reboot doesn't work properly

Hi buddy,

Since when do you notice this problem and have you changed something on hardware configuration?

It?s hard to say why it happens but fact is it must be a hardware issue? Have you installed newest BIOS version for Satellite T110? You can download it on official Toshiba website:

But before you start the update, close all running programs (also AntiVirus and Firewall).

Hi, I am having a mojor headache with a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120. The screen has started switching to blackout at random times and is happening more and more. It doesn't matter whether W
Jayindows has loaded or if I enter the bios,or boot from CD,or leave it sat waiting for me to select a boot device. It more often than not goes black but you can still see what should be on the screen, it's just not lit at all to see clearly. The laptop itself is still working fine as it works on an external monitor and makes system beeps, cd spins up etc.
Have tried the following:
Adjusting various settings in the graphics properties and within the bios but makes no difference.
It also switches back on if I press FN + F5 to swap monitors but goes off again after a few seconds.
It's not overheating as it's been stood all night and still happens sometime during boot when stone cold.
I've tried booting with / without the battery - no difference.
I've tried booting without the HDD - no difference.
I've tried removing the battery, pressing power for 60 seconds, then add battery, power and boot up again - no difference.
I would have sworn it was the inverter but it does the same thing with an inverter I know works! don't think it can be graphics as it works on an external monitor and doesn't go off.
I'm out of ideas and seeking a genius to sort this for me please!!!

Satellite SM30-604. Laptop left on carpet overnight and overheated! Fan doesn't spin and laptop only occasionally starts up. Thinking the fan was fault I replaced the fan but even this new fan doesn't spin. The heatsink is totally clean - no dust inside the vanes at all. The laptop is only 2 years old.

Using forced-cooling (by sticking a vacuum nozzle at the cooling fan outlet!) the laptop occasionally starts up like normal right up to the Desktop screen with all usual icons and no error messages. But then it goes no further - the screen, keyboard and mouse freeze.

Most of the time it doesn't start up at all. When it doesn't start, the blue LED comes on but there's no hard-disk activity or LCD screen at all - even the wifi LED doesn't even come on.

Really grateful if anyone know's what's going on. Not sure if it's the main CPU that's faulty?

Thanks in advance.

Charlie

Answer:Satellite M30-604 freezes and fan doesn't work after replacement

Hello Charlie

Like you know on this way it is not easy to give any precise diagnostic but according to your posting I presume that there is some ?complex? problem and unit should be checked properly. I also think that there must be some problem with electronic.

It is really possible that mainboard must be replaced but, as I already said, it is no possible to say anything precise about your problem. Try to contact Asp and you will see what they will say.

Hi,

I have tried multiple times to call on the support phone number with long waiting and no answer ( on hold for ages )

I have been having a problem since 1 week with my Toshiba Laptop as below

The trackpad ( mouse ) does not work despite removing battery , FN and pressing f2 then f9 and then f10 as mentioned in various forums

Also the keyboard freezes completely many times - have also tried checking other things like BIOS - trackpad enabled

And finally we have also done SYSTEM RESTORE to a previous date when everything was fine on laptop

Serial Number: 2D138575R
Model:Toshiba Satellite C855-2F0

Please help !!!

Answer:Satellite C855 - Mouse does not work - Keyboard freezes -

There are some options you could check and do.
*-> BIOS update.*
In case there is a new BIOS version for your notebook, perform the update on your unit.

*-> System Restore / Recovery*
You wrote above that you already set the notebook to a previous data but I don?t think this is good enough. It?s advisable to recover the notebook back to factory settings.
How?
Either by using the previous created Recovery medium (disk or flash memory stick) or by using the HDD recovery option (power up the unit, press F12 and choose HDD recovery)

Of course running the HDD recovery would lead to data loss, so back up the data if essential.

When I come to use the in-built webcam (on a P200-144) in Messenger, it reports that it is not plugged in or in use. If I launch the Camera Assistant Software, pressing any of the buttons does nothing.

To get the camera to work, I have to go to Device Manager and manually update the drivers, selecting USB Video as the device (as per this FAQ: [http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?service=UK&from=faq_selection&CFID=WebCam& FID=TIU00000038fc]), and then reboot.

Answer:Satellite L500 and Satellite P200 - compatible keyboards?

Hi

In my opinion this question is for Toshiba service and not for user-to-user forum.

Anyway I think that both keyboards are not the same and you should order 100% identical keyboard designed for your notebook model.

Question is: why do you look for keyboards for old notebook models if you can order new one for L500.
On eBay you can get it quite affordable.

is there a permanent fix to this problem?

its not anything to do with programs installed nor is it anything to do with browser settings.
restarting the computer works for a short time but is time consuming this is really annoying as i use this for work and study!

Answer:Satellite Pro C850 keyboard wont work properly and opens multiple programs

> is there a permanent fix to this problem?

The question is what causes this problem? Is it hardware related or software related issue?

Why you don?t connect an external USB keyboard just to check if the same would happen?

In case the USB keyboard would work fine, I would assume that the internal keyboard malfunctions? and the solution would be an simple replacement of faulty part.

This is quite possibly the strangest error sequence I've come across in all my years working with computers.

My system has issues. Unfortunately. Possibly more than one. But I do know that for about the last month, up until this morning, any attempt to turn on my system would require the user to boot into Windows, wait ~15 seconds for a hard, BSOD-inducing crash (with MEMORY_MANAGEMENT as the cause a majority of the time), wait for the system to reboot and reach the Windows boot animation, suffer yet another hard, BSOD-inducing crash (with no minidump this time, however, since it hadn't fully loaded Windows yet), and then finally reboot once more, after which the system would seem to function perfectly. My one change this morning? I removed one stick of my RAM.

Now, normally this would seem to be pretty cut and dried, but I had similar problems with this setup earlier in the year. I exchanged my RAM twice, then my motherboard, then my RAM again, which is leading me to believe that it might well be a CPU issue (note that my system is not currently being overclocked). But my Windbg skills aren't what they used to be, and I'm currently running on a spotty 3G internet connection, so my options for diagnosis are a tad limited.

Both computers are were connected directly to the router via the same ethernet cable, both units are laptops.

Again, vista believes it is connected to the internet, and it is, but the connection is just horrible. At my house it works beautifully.

His computer that is not connecting:
HP pavilion dv6748us.
procesor is AMD turion64x2
OS VISTA Home Premium 32bit
2 gb RAM

My laptop that worked on his connection is:
old SONY with windows XP pro
1gb RAM

Already have done the following:
Reset internet explorer 7
used the MSCONFIG console to turn off ALL startup processes just in case.
Ran a quick scan with superantispyware

I would have tried a differant browser but I could not download it, took it to my house so I could use a flash drive or let it sit forever and download and to my amazement there was no connectivity issues whatsoever.

Answer:Solved: Computer functioning fine, network functioning fine, two dont work together.

HELP - while trying to fix my Maxtor external HD using Drive Rescue my windows XP machine froze up and now I can't reboot.

I can get to the Dell - Optiplex GX260 screen using the f12 key, but that is about it. It usually freezes saying that it has an error loading the system.

What can I do from here?

Thanks

Answer:(ttt) Fine Pickle - can't reboot XP

Run the Dell hard drive diagnostics . . the drive may have failed. The diagnostics are on the Resource CD or you can download from Dell support site.

Hey

I'm getting a BSOD once a day or every time my computer has been turned off for longer than just a reboot. When the computer reboots after the BSOD it runs just fine with no incidents until the next time its turned off for a bit.

IIRC it started after x version Nvidia driver and I've tried reinstalling Nvidia drivers, installing new versions, clean installs, uninstalling with Display Driver Uninstaller and then reinstalling.

DM log collector file attached as per the BSOD tutorial:

Vista Home preminum was preinstalled on my Equium P200 computer.

I have found that multiple identically named (sub)directories are created over time without any (obvious) input from myself.

These identically named (sub)directories contain different files albeit sometimes identical (subsubdirectories).

I have tried removing the (apparently) redundant (sub)directories, but over time they reappear.

Also I have noticed that shortcuts/files move or disappear from (sub)directories)

For instance, up until a couple of days ago I had a series of favorites in a subdirectory under (my) user directory -- the subdirectory has now 'disappeared' along with the shortcuts.

As a Side Issue I've tried various means of testing my system -- System Restore; Memory; Hard Disk; System File Checker, but nothing seems amiss, excepting that-
the System File Checker said that it could not resolve a couple of faults and had put the details in a log file. Unfortunately no matter what I do I cannot open the log file - the system forbids it even though I'm listed as the administrator.

The only thing I have not done is to use the Startup Repair facility sine I'm not certain what the implications of this option are.

Any and all suggestions and help would be most welcome

regards

Answer:Equium P200 - multiple identical (sub)directories & moved contents

Hi

According to your message you are absolutely unsure what (sub) directories these are and what software has created this directories.

I think an certain application or software which is installed on your notebook can create such folders/directories?also an windows update does such things?

In different cases such files/folders are only for temporal usage. In such case you could remove it?
I?m using an free tool called CCLeaner. It cleans the OS registry and temporal files stored on the HDD.
Maybe you should test it?

Good day All,

To cut a long story short, I had a virus/s which Bleeping Computers was helping me with when suddenly my computer was wiped.
I used the recovery disc and did a re-install. Everything fine until I restart the machine and I get a message saying that a file is corrupt or missing. The file in question is:-

Windowsroot>system32\ntoskrnl.exe

I have reinstalled three times and get the same problem each time I restart the computer.
As usual, all and any help appreciated.
George.

I have a random rebooting problem.

It is a new pc build with the following attached -

COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UWC ATX Mid Tower 380W
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+(65W) Windsor 2.0GHz
ECS NFORCE4M-A (V3.0) Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce4 4X ATX Mobo
WD Caviar SE WD1600JS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s HardDrive
WINTEC AMPX (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
LITE-ON 18X DVD±R DVD Burner

I have 2 sticks of ram, and I have tried swapping them out and using different slots.

I have reformatted and started to install windows multiple times. It will always get through the formatting and copying of files. Then windows forces a reboot and once the windows installer starts, the random reboots begin. Sometimes I get to set the date/time and admin password before it starts, other times it starts immediately after the forced reboot. Sometimes it gets in a loop and restarts 3-4 times and finally dies with the monitor not getting any signal.

I would think it was the mobo, power supply, or video card but it is only partially random. It seems really odd to me that it always works fine while formatting (and it takes 30-45 mins) and only starts acting up once the windows installer starts. I have tried both regular and quick format multiple times each.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am trying to dual boot Vist with XP Pro. Vista installs without any problems. When I get to the welcome screen and start using Vista, everything works as expected, not great, but I get to use the operating system. When I reboot the system, my computer only has the option to boot to XP. There is no option in the boot ini file that recognizes Vista was ever installed. The partition which I installed Vista to has it in there. I have tried formatting the partition about 3 or 4 times and every time I install Vista, I get the same results (Vista works untill I reboot and then I can't boot to it)

Has anyone else experienced this, or any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks, ZMAN

Answer:Vista installs fine until reboot

I had a similar problem. I had XP on one hard drive & Vista on another. I was not able to get a boot menu to display. I had to go into my bios & change the hard drive priority setting. I believe you can add info to the XP boot.ini to boot into Vista.

I just did a Google search and found the following utility for Vista. It's called EasyBCD. It may help you.

I have a 5 year old Micron Millennia running Windows98 (I know -- sounds pretty pathetic).

In the last week or so the screen will be grayed out (you can see everything, but it's very hard to see) on boot. If you reboot it several times, the screen will eventually come back and be fine.

I tried just not powering it down -- and that works fairly well, except the screen went dim while the computer was up and running, one time. We tried replacing the video card -- got a new GeForce NVidea 6200 (which is compatible with Windows98) and everything was fine -- for a while, then the problem cropped up again.

What to do? The monitor appears to be working okay otherwise. We tried plugging in a different monitor and the problem was just the same.

Thank-you for any help or advice that you can give.

Hi all,

as per usual, it is a problem that has seen me look for help and find this forum.

I have installed windows 7 on a laptop that is a few years old (fujitsu amilo v2035pro).
I thought all was fine, i used the xp gfx driver for the video which is a via s3g unichrome igp pro.
It asked for a reboot, which i did and the video came back great at 1280x800.

Trouble is, everytime i reboot the resolution goes back to 640x480 and i cant change it. I have to unistall the device, reboot, reinstall and it is fine again.

Talk about frustrating. When installed the machine works great but why the resetting of the resolution? It makes no sense.

Any help seriously appreciated as i am going insane

Answer:Cant change resolution after reboot, fine before!

I'm not sure why you would install a video driver meant for XP on a Windows 7 system, or even how you managed to do this. Did 7 not install a driver by itself?

I have recently just bought a Toshiba Satellite P200-1EE. I cannot fault it, it is superb having Vista Home Premium, a HD-DVD Drive, 2GB RAM and 160GB Hard Drive. The only problem is that I am worried that 160GB will go very quickly by adding Games for Windows Game, being up to 16GB a game.

So I am wondering, in the P200-1EE model, is there a spare slot in one of the hard drive bays, and if so, would it be possible to insert a 2.5" Western Digital Scorpio SATA Drive (WD3200BEV) 320GB into it?
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=377he details about this Hard Drive can be found at this page:

All help provided will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Answer:Can I add another HDD to my Satellite P200-1EE?

What does the user manual say?
Please check the user manual which should be preinstalled on your notebook.

As far as I know not all Satellite P200 notebooks would support the second HDD because of missing second HDD controller.
Therefore it?s necessary to check the second bay for the available HDD connectors.

Remove the cover from the second HDD bay and heck if the interface is available.

Is is possible to install a 2nd HDD in a Satellite P200-1FC (PSPB6E)? There is an empty bay, but no connector. Is it possible to purchase and install a connector so that a 2nd HDD can be fitted?

Answer:2nd HDD for Satellite P200-1FC

Very often discussed theme on this forum!

If there is no connector the upgrade is not possible. Notebook case is for all P200 the same. Some of them are delivered with 2 HDDs. Because of that you have found empty place for second HDD. The mainboard in your notebook is not prepared to work with 2 HDDs.

The same situation is on my P200D.

Hi,

I'm working everyday on my Satellite P200-1BY and now, my HDD1 is full.

I see that there is a slot for a second HDD. But I cant find the plug!

So is it possible to plug a second HDD on my satellite P200-1BY ??? Because I bought a new HDD and if i cant plug it, I've got only 7 days to return the HDD to the store.

THX for your answers !

Answer:Satellite P200-1BY - Can I use 2nd HDD?

Hi,
Notebooks that were sold with only 1 HDD will only have the capability to use 1 HDD. There may have been other models similar to yours which did have 2 HDD's, but they would have had a different motherboard which is capable of using 2 HDD's.

I would take the HDD back ASAP.

Go back to the display manager and see if your tv shows up?If it does then set up the resolution for your television and click apply.I then used the FN keys while pressing F5 to switch the display options to LCD TV only.Hope this is of help to you

Answer:Can I use second HDD on my Satellite P200?

Hi

I know that it sounds strange but the P200 series was delivered with a second bay for the internal HDD.
But not every P200 was equipped with the second HDD controller.
So you can not upgrade the P200 with the second HDD if the HDD interface is missing.

After many years having a slow disk in my laptop Satellite P200-1BA I decided to change it.
Is there any chance to replace with an SSD?
Which type is compatible with my machine?

Will I see dramatic behaviour to my laptop because now I have 3 minutes booting and quite slow behaviour.
I want to buy a new one but for now if the SSD disk is an option i will replace the disk i will see what I?m going to do.

Thank you

Answer:SSD in Satellite P200-1BA

Satellite P200 is good old notebook. long time ago I had P200D and I used it with Windows 7 32bit.
I think there should no be any problem to upgrade your machine with SSD. You don't need to obtain most expensive and with best specification.

On the market there are many SSD from different manufacturers with different prices.
In the past on this forum many people have posted about good experiences with Toshiba, Kingston or Samsung SSDs. Visit your local dealer and check what could be the best one for you.

Answer:Satellite P200 is always off

Hello

Is there any sign of life? I mean when you connect AC adapter is DC in or battery indicator ON?
Have you tried to start your notebook using AC adapter only (battery removed)?

On this virtual way it is not easy to say for sure what the problem is but I can imagine there is problem with power supply electronic.

By the way have you done something that may be reason for described issue?

I recently got the new Satellite Pro P200 HD from Getech. I asked Getech to change the OS to XP because my university will not support Vista. I was told that some of the functionality will be lost with XP, such as the hot key utility and I accepted to go ahead.

However I wasn't informed that the sound will be scratchy and the video will behave as if I am playing a scratched CD.
This is true with sounds from windows as well. I have not been able to enjoy music or video. I have all drivers up-todate and the new XP Bios released recently has been updated.

Please does anyone know someone using this model with XP as OS with the sound and video functioning properly?
This would mean I have been sold a laptop with a faulty sound hardware and should get a replacement because I have had this problem from day one.

Thanks for the help in advance.
Calvin

Answer:Satellite Pro P200-HD: How to use it with Win XP

Hi there,

regarding your sound you should visit www.realtek.com, download the drivers from there and install them (don?t forget to uninstall the installed drivers before).

If this really does not help then return the machine since your sound hardware could be faulty. Just check this out and give some feedback what happened.

That would typically indicate a hardware issue. If there are multiple sticks of RAM present, try only one at a time. You may also want to try a different video card if possible, or test the current video card in another system.

Computer ran fine in the am. Shut down and restarted in the pm. Boot to windows was no slower than normal. When you click on any executable, program takes forever to load. For example, after clicking Outlook 2007, about 10 minutes later I can actually see my emails. Move the mouse to click and open an email, cursor disappears then reappears about 50 seconds later. Maybe 5-7 minutes later, the email message will open. The same scenario occurs for Task Manager, Windows Explorer, Firefox, etc.

Answer:WIN7. Fine before reboot. Now extremely slow.

First, try this to see if Task Manager can identify the hog:

Task Manager:
Also, you can monitor the system for excessive resource consumption. To do this, open up Task Manager by right clicking on the Task Bar.
Then select the Processes tab.
Then select the "Show processes from all users" button (in the lower left)
Then select the View menu item, then select "Select columns"
In the Select columns window, place checkmarks next to I/O Reads and I/O Other.
Click OK to accept the changes.
Resize the Task Manager window so you can see the most of the columns.
Wait for the system to freeze.
Look at all of the columns to see if there's anything that looks excessively high - if so, let us know the Image name of the process.
FWIW - System Idle Process is supposed to have high CPU readings - anything else with high CPU readings is an issue.

If that doesn't work, we can try XPerf (more info here: http://www.carrona.org/xperf.html ).

Specs:
- PC Chips A15G mother board, BIOS just flashed with the 2008/08/12 update
- 2x Western Digital WD10EADS 1TB hard drives set up as a RAID 1
- Fresh install of Windows XP using the F6 function to install the RAID drivers, updated to Service Pack 3
(I can provide more system information if it will help)

I just upgraded my home-built desktop from a single 80G IDE hard drive to a RAID 1 with dual 1TB SATA drives with a fresh install of XP using the F6 option and installing the required RAID drivers. The system runs great but it would not power down after shutting XP down. After flashing the BIOS with the 2008/08/12 update, things get weirder.

The machine still doesn't power down when I shut down XP, but will shut down if I hold the power button for 3 seconds or so. However, if I press the Reset button on the front of the case the machine shuts down instantly, but does not reboot. When I select "Restart" from the shut down menu, the machine shuts down instead of rebooting. Even further, if I go into the BIOS menu then exit, the machine shuts down instead of rebooting.

The XP install is new this weekend so if I need to do something major it isn't a big deal. Is there some sort of BIOS setting that I have wrong or is something corrupt? The machine ran completely normally with the 80G IDE drive.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Jimal

This appears to be a RAID issue, try disabling RAID and pulling one of your hard drives see if that changes anything.

Just moved a Mercury 56k PCI Data/Fax Modem from a box running W98 on a PII 300 to another box running W98 on a P200. When I try to dial out using same cables, line and settings it eventually fails with error code 629. The boxes are sitting side-by-side. The P200 consistently fails and the PII 300 consistently connects.I've meticulously compared Network and Dialup Networking settings and made the P200 identical (with the exception of computer name and file and print sharing.)I've also followed the Windows troubleshooter and replaced the winsock modules (wsock32n.dll is missing on both systems and not present on my W98 disk). One thought is that the P200 isn't beefy enough to run this modem but I can't find any info telling me the minimum cpu.Apart from that I'm almost out of ideas. All suggestions welcome.

I have done a search and realize there are several threads here that address this, but I haven't been able to solve this. This is the same laptop that I posted a thread about with the bad power button. Not sure if the two are related, since the two problems seemed to crop up around the same time. Anyway, I've tried HP's troubleshooting, but haven't gotten the speakers to work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, checked the volume (duh), and attempted to do a system restore. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that system restore had been apparently been disabled for some time, and there were no restore points to choose from. I've googled this of course, and besides the things I've tried, it seems that either the headphone jack switch is stuck or the speakers are dead. Would both speakers give out at the same time? I've tried jiggling/rapidly pulling a headphone plug in and out to dislodge the switch, no dice. Anymore ideas I can try? I've been using external speakers plugged into the headphone jack, but this gets annoying after awhile.

Hello,
My problem is as follows: when launching some .exe files, either by double-clicking in Explorer or by having another program launch them, they show up in the Processes tab in Task Manager, take up some memory, some threads and some handles, and then stay
at 0% CPU and nothing else happens. Launching the file again only adds a new process, equally "dead".
The weird thing is that some files work fine: Chrome, Steam client and at least one Steam game, regedit.exe, msconfig.exe, Adobe reader, VLC media player, one compiled AutoHotKey script...
The ones that conspicuously don't work are OpenOffice (all its .exes), many Steam games, installers for new programs (such as OOo),
other compiled AutoHotKey scripts, Pure Data.
None of these problems seem to appear in Safe Mode.
So lots of stuff still works, but I'd love to fix this and be able to work on text documents and spreadsheets again...
What I've tried so far:

updated Windows to all it asked forsfc /scannow returns no problem at all (just ran it again now)chkdsk /r /f, everything is finetried a system restore, which failed even in Safe Mode, with the message about antivirus software preventing it from doing its jobuninstalled AVG, which was only possible in Safe Mode, am now running the free trial of Malwarebytes, which says everything is fine after a scanfollowed the instructions to correct .exe file association in the registry found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2688326

These paths are from Laptop: Only the words "FAVORITES and Favorites Bar" appear from the Edge Hub, but no listings of them are available, and the bar shortcuts do not appear, however the complete lists appear following their names on the path shown below.
C:\Users\Deek\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Def ault\Favorites
C:\Users\Deek\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Def ault\Favorites\Favorites Bar

These paths are from Desktop: These work perfectly with Edge, just as they do when I use IE 11 and Favorites bar appears as they should.
C:\Users\RW\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Defau lt\Favorites\Favorites bar
C:\Users\RW\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Defau lt\Favorites

The only difference I can see between them is the name of the User, which is different on each computer. Where have I gone wrong? I have identical paths on another identical laptop and the Favorites function as they should and th... Read more

Answer:Satellite Pro P200: Need WXP drivers

Sorry but I do not understand the meaning of this sentence. On Toshiba download page you can find WXP drivers for SP P200. Check ?Installations Instructions? document and install all listed drivers following installations order.

That?s all!

Hi

I want to replace my existing HDD on my P200-17C (PSPB6E-03G0 2TEN) which has its original 200gb HDD. This is now practically full. I want to upgrade it with as large an internal HDD as I can get and afford. The one I have identified is a Samsung 640GB with a 8Mb Cache. See this link for info on the drive:-

My question is will this be Ok with my Tosh Notebook? I have been told that the Toshiba BIOS might not work with it and so if anyone on this forum can advise me about this, that would be a great relief. Is the 8mb Cache OK too? Whilst I am prepared to buy and replace the drive myself, I am NOT confident about the other technical stuff as to whether my Notebook will have any 'special technical needs' such as this possible BIOS and Cache size issue?

If this drive is too large a capacity or of the wrong type for my PC-17C, any advice on what the alternative/correct spec should be that I need to source would be great. (I believe, from a spec. sheet that my exisiting drive is a 200gb Serial ATA - 150 - 5400 rpm product)

Thanks for considering this question and thanks for any help given

Answer:Upgrading the HDD on Satellite P200-17C

Hello

Problem is that Toshiba doesn?t offer info about such upgrade. Hopefully some P200 owner can report about successful HDD upgrade.

To be honest for me is always funny when someone wants to upgrade 3 or 4 years old notebook with newest HDD. In my opinion 300 or even 400 HDD should be enough for this oldie.

I have a 1 week old Satellite Pro P200, it turned itself off when i was just in the start menu so i wasnt doing anything out of the norm (power cable was plugged in). Since then it simply wont turn on.

With the power cable plugged in I have a blue power, battery and power supply light (although for approx 2 restart attempts the battery light was red, but now blue). The drive light flickers for about 3 seconds each time i try to boot and I can hear something happening inside the machine, but after that 3 seconds....nothing, totally dead.

I have tried removing the battery, waiting 20 minutes or so and none of that has worked. Anybody got any ideas??

Answer:Satellite Pro P200 won't start up

Seems to be definitely an hardware problem... very bad :(
Why you don't visit your notebook dealer again and ask for the swap.
Maybe the dealer will exchange the laptop with a new one.

If not, then you will have to contact the authorized service provider in your country for a help.
If you have bought an additional on-site service then the technician will visit you at home and will try to solve this issue.

Good luck

Hi
How to I upgrade my laptop from a 32bit to 64 bit?

Answer:How to upgrade Satellite P200 from 32-bit to 64-bit OS?

You cannot upgrade it. What you need is 64-bit installation disc and clean operating system installation.
I presume recovery image for Satellite P200 is 32bit only. Right?

Hi,

I have been so many problem with Toshiba since the company brought it for me and yet, i am sure the company already been set it up so i been use it quite a lot.

I have a problem with that Toshiba version got some problem and i always ring to toshiba customer service (indeed my sister did it for me cos i am deaf) to replace laptop charger which i have Toshiba 3 years warrently (best thing i have it!)

But i know Toshiba keep asking me if i have regrister which i did it but it not on the list.
Reason why not on the list because windows Vista have a problem and i have to re-clear it back to normal which i lost the warrently...
I am worried that i have many issue problems with Windows Vista or Toshiba notebook.

So, i have many thing to ask all of toshiba expert-

1) I lost windows vista recovery disc so i dont know where did i put it... So can i get a new one?
2) my laptop charger been broken AGAIN (so i wonder if toshiba still got my warrenty on toshiba's service so i don't have to worry about if my sister asked them.
3) i wonder what is toshiba tempro since i havent update any toshiba's version
4) i have a camera which is build-in however, i try to figure it out to fix but i dont know what is name of website which is camera...

Answer:Satellite Pro P200-14W - I've got some questions

Hi dude

I?m not expert but I will try to answer some your questions;

> 1) I lost windows vista recovery disc so i don?t know where did i put it... So can i get a new one?
You can purchase it from the ASP or from this website:
https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

>2) my laptop charger been broken AGAIN (so i wonder if Toshiba still got my warranty on Toshiba?s service so i don't have to worry about if my sister asked them)
You can get the new AC adaptor from the ASP in your country. If the warranty is valid then you will get it for free. If the warranty is not valid then you will have to pay for this part

> 3) i wonder what is Toshiba tempro since i haven?t update any Toshiba?s version
Toshiba Tempro or Tempo (it the same) is a new tool which send a notification if an new driver update is available on the Toshiba European page. To be honest I don?t need such tool and I don?t update my system if it?s not necessary!

> 4) i have a camera which is build-in however, i try to figure it out to fix but i don?t know what is name of website which is camera...
The internal webcam is designed by Chicony but the necessary software and driver can be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page.

Sorry if this has been aked before but i have tried to search for it and nothing came up....

I have a Satellite P200-1G8 and i would like to connect it to a 40 inch lcd screen.
What sort of cable would i need to connect the 2 together?

The TV is a Samsung LE40B620.
Could i get a HDMI cable and use the hdmi connections on both the TV and the laptop?

Does it have to be a special type of cable or are they all the same....

sorry if it sound stupid but i havent a clue how to put it better... thanks in advance

Answer:How to connect Satellite P200-1G8 to an 40" LCD TV

Hi

Your notebook Sat P200-1G8 seems to support HDMI out port.
The LCD supports an HDMI in port.
So use simply an 1.3 HDMI cable to connect both devices.
This would be the easiest solution.

I connected my U400 to 24? LCD via HDMI cable?
It works!
