Satellite P300-1AN - Touchpad issue with AC adapter

Question: Satellite P300-1AN - Touchpad issue with AC adapter

I've a Satellite P300-1AN notebook and since the beginning (two weeks)
I have a touchpad issue: it is not immediately responsive and the pointer trembles when touching the pad. Very often it freezes for just one or two seconds.

This is VERY annoying. A USB mouse works perfectly.
I tried reinstalling ALPS drivers, tried Synaptics ones, tried just Windows Vista drivers: no way.

Now I have found the reason: this issue is present only when the notebook is powered by AC adapter.
With battery the touchpad is perfect.

I contacted Toshiba Service and thay said that they won't change the AC adapter if I don't try before a complete system restore!
Isn't it simpler just try with a new adapter and only then, if the problem persists, try more drastic procedures?

Has anyone had this same issue?

Preferred Solution: Satellite P300-1AN - Touchpad issue with AC adapter

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The point is that your notebook should be always checked using the Toshiba factory configuration.
Why? Because the ASP wants to be sure that this issue is not related to a software problem (compatibility issue with 3rd party applications). The software issues are not covered by warranty.

Furthermore the ASP will always recover the notebook before checking any hardware parts for a malfunction. Therefore you should always backup your data from the HDD before you will send the notebook for checking.

I would recommend to reinstall the OS using the Toshiba recover disk and then check if the issue would appears.
If yes then you can contact the ASP again and could provide all details which are necessary for an technician.

Hi everyone!!

I have bought a Satellite P300-15D and I'm experiencing some problems with the touchpad.

I simply turn the pc on and sometimes the touchpad is working, sometimes not.

I tried FN+F9 button's but it simply doesn't work. The touchpad doesn't even appears in the system devices list.

I have search the web and this Toshiba forums support for help, but I haven't found anything related.

Please help me!!

Answer:Touchpad issue on Satellite P300-15D

Sound like a hardware issue which should be checked by a technician or an authorized service provider.

If I were you I would click [here| 000000871], search for the nearest ASP in your country and send my machine to them to fix that.

I have lost my AC Adapter to my Satellite P300 150 Laptop, so need to know the volt and Amp of a replacement.

Answer:Satellite P300-150 - Need an AC adapter

The Satellite P300 150 seems to belong to the PSPC4E series and according to the Toshiba Options & Accessories page you could take these AC adaptors:

AC Adapter 19V, 3.42A, 65W - PA3516E-1AC3
AC Adapter 19V, 6.3A, 120W - PA3290E-3AC3

I recently loaded Windows 7 (64bit) onto my Satellite Pro P300. I downloaded all the drivers for W7 64 bit and everything happily installed, for the most part.

The touchpad, however, is not fully functional. The upgrade page said to use the Vista drivers, and did not provide any drivers for win7. The installation of the Vista drivers did not realy go so well.

Anyhow, the critical piece of functionality missing is that thing where you drag your finger up and down the right edge of the touchpad, and it scrolls for you. I can click and double click and move the cursor around. But I cannot scroll. And it is such a pain having to move the cursor all the way over to the application's scrollbar, with a widescreen.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Touchpad on Satellite Pro P300 does not work with Windows 7

Which driver you have installed?
Synaptics driver maybe?

My P300 has been working beautifully but suddenly the touch pad has completely stopped working - including the left and right buttons. I can't find the touchpad in Device Manager and that's about the limit of my (in)expertise!

Where else should I be looking? Any help would be hugely appreciated! Thank you.

Answer:Satellite P300-18M Touchpad stopped working

Very strange issue! Please open Control Panel > Mouse properties > Hardware tab ? is there listed Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad?

Have you tried to roll back OS to earlier time? Please try it.

I have a P300-19P and have just installed windows 7. Have installed all the relevant Toshiba drivers and everything works fine with the exception of my touchpad, where I have lost all scroll functionality.
I don't seem to be able to find a driver that works nor can I select the mouse as a touchpad under control panel.

As you can appreciate this is rather annoying to lose this, help greatly appreciated.

Hi everybody,

I have some problems with my touchpad and I am not the only one.

When my laptop is on battery the touchpad works fine, but when is on AC power the touchpad works very bad. (he work 1 sec after he block 5 sec... etc)

I search about this problem and I find this thread :

My one year warranty with toshiba is finish,, now is the one year with the seller, I imagine there is no reason to ask to toshiba for resolving the problem , right ?

Sorry if my english is not perfect but this is not my native language.

How the seller resolve the problem I imagine he contact toshiba because he can resolve the problem by himself, no ?

What do you think about this problem ?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite P300-1GK touchpad works very bad using only AC adaptor

It seems that the touchpad issue is related to faulty AC adaptor.
The other user solved the similar issue replacing the AC adaptor.

If the warranty is not valid anymore, then you will need to pay for the new part.
I would recommend getting in contact with a local Toshiba service partner to get new part or to check the AC adaptor?

Here you can find all ASPs worldwide: -> Support & Downloads -> Find an Authorized Service Provider

PS: Usually the standard warranty is valid for one year. But the warranty could be extended for additional year after the notebook has been registered on Toshiba page.
I did this in the past and I?ve got two year warranty?

My ac adapter doe not seem to does not get warm, it is not powering up my computer, which has run out of juice completely and now cannot be switched on. I had altered my power settings so that I would always have a fair amount of battery power left, but now nothing.

Do these ac adapters die? I have had it for around 3 years.

Do I have to buy another adapter? Can I fix this one?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite P300-20H - AC adapter is dead

You cannot fix it. Order new one. On AC adapter you will find sticker with part number (PAxxxxxx) so please order exact the same model. It must be 19V AC adapter.
You can also buy one on eBay. I found also one for my old Satellite P20 and it costs few euros only.

Cable melted today around the square plug that goes into laptop.
You can see the wires, lately adapter has been buzzing/making insect noises.
It's still under warranty.

Will Toshiba provide a replacement adapter and how long is it gonna take for me to receieve it as I can't use the laptop now but need it for work.

Answer:Satellite P300-18M - AC adapter is dead

The AC adaptor is dead. This is fact and if the warranty is valid then the ASP should replace it for free.
You have to contact the guys in you country in order to get some more details and to arrange the part replacement.

I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 (over Vista, which my laptop came with). Everything works fine, but one thing is bugging me just a little bit - with Vista, I could use the top/right edges of the touchpad to scroll down/across in windows & documents.

On Windows 7, this feature no longer works. I have tried searching for a driver on this site, but the search comes up negative.

Is there any way I can get this feature back? It's quite a pain if I don't have the luxury of a mouse.

Thanks, Simon.

Answer:Satellite P300 PSPCCE - Windows 7 drivers for touchpad

Hey Simon,

It would be interesting to know what notebook you have.

This feature what you mean is software based so you have to install the touchpad driver and configure it. Normally you can get it on the Toshiba website.

Some Vista drivers are also work on Windows 7. Have you checked this?

I have two problems with my Toshiba Satellite P300-19N.

First, a few months ago my touchpad became completely unresponsive. I hadn't installed or changed anything major that day. It just stopped working while I was using the laptop. Both the buttons and the actual pad do not work. I did buy a USB mouse as a temporary stopgap but I would like the problem to be solved. Anyone have any ideas about what could be causing it and possible solutions.

This week, the media hot keys above the keyboard (next to the power button) stopped working. I wiped over them with a dry cloth as the laptop was dusty and the play/pause button lit up but nothing happened. Now none of the hot keys are responsive and the play button remains lit up, even when the laptop has been shut down and unplugged.

If anybody has any advice on hw to solve these two problems I would be extremely grateful.

Answer:Satellite P300 - Touchpad and media keys not responding

If the touchpad doesn?t respond I assume it?s just disabled and you can use FN+F9 key combination to disable/enable it.
Check this!!!

Regarding the multimedia keys that you mean you should reinstall Toshiba Value Added Package. This package contains the drivers for those keys and should be reinstalled. In my case it could solve the problem and you can download it here: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

But generally speaking the buttons can be used with Windows Media Player only?

Now my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 series shows an error (cannot initialize, code 37) in the hardware overview.
The Catalyst Control Center programm does not work anymore and the maximum resolution 1440 x 900 is not available.

Also Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad shows an error.

After a while my keyboard does not react anymore.

When I do a system restore everthing works fine again.

Is this a known issue? What update causes this error?

That doesn't sound to good, you should send the Laptop and Adapter to an Authorized Service Provider/Center for repair.

Maybe you should avoid plugging in the Adapter in the meantime since its high voltage.

I have a problem when installing win xp to Satellite p300-133.
To solve this problem I tried solutions:
switching to ahci compatibility mode in bios and integrating intel storage drivers to xp installation cd by nlite but none of them solved the problem.

Notebook boots from xp cd and xp installation says "setup is inspecting your hardware configuration" and then a blank black screen comes.
After that, installation does not do anything and waits infinitely.

Any ideas about this problem? Thanks.

Answer:Satellite P300-133 - Win Xp installation issue

> switching to ahci compatibility mode in bios and integrating Intel storage drivers to xp installation cd by nlite but none of them solved the problem.

Both methods are right!
You can install the Win XP without the Intel Storage Manger drivers (SATA drivers) but in such case the SATA mode should be set to compatible mode.
This work for sure!!!

The second method is the installation of SATA drivers using nLite (drivers can be integrated into new Win XP disk).

I don?t understand why this doesn?t work on your notebook. I think it?s a problem with your Win XP disk?. Does this Win XP contain SP2 or SP3?
If not then you should use nLite in order to include min the SP2 to Win XP.

Check it!

Hi, I am new to the forum and hope that somone will be able to help.

I am having problems burning DVD's. When I use burning software the image is usually copied ok and then the burning process starts, which usually lasts a couple of moments and then the machine spits out the disc part burnt and wasted.

I usually use Corel DVD Copy 6, but have tried the TOSHIBA programmes and others such as NERO. Using Corel VideoStudio, this burns discs with a 90% sucess rate, but the problem comes when trying to copy my own created discs.

I have tried different Disc types (ie +R and -R), and I have tried burning speeds too.

Has anbody else suffered this problem?

I have managed to find an error code 06077-26-2A040902 , does this mean anyhting to anyone?

The TEMPRO Alerts seem to have provided firmware updates for a number of other DVD drives, but not the one in my machine? Perhpas it is due one? All the drivers are up to date.

Thanks for listening and anybodies help is more than welcome.

Answer:Satellite P300 19P - CD/DVD Burning Issue

The lens could have dust on it. Open the CD door and clean the lens using a clean microfiber cloth, or gently blow onto the lens.

If thats no good, try removing the filters:

When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.

1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
4) Reboot.

If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).

This utility can remove the filters for you:

Answer:Strange keyboard issue on a Satellite P300

Hi Oliv

Such issue is not known to me and I think it must be hardware related issue.
What you can do about it? Not much except to try with BIOS update but I don?t think it will help.

I've bought this laptop a good month ago to replace my old one that had crashed beyond repair and I've been having problems with the video drivers ever since. I initially hoped the problem would solve itself since I am in the middle of my exams and I really don't have time too much extra time to spend on mending it myself, and I also can't give it back to the store since I need certain software for my exams.

So the problem I think lies with the video drivers for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphic card. Whilst I am working on my laptop my screen all of a sudden turns black and my computer freezes (including very unpleasant sound when I'm playing music at the time) an after 5 seconds it flashes back into live and displays a message saying a beelschermstuurprogramma werkte niet perfect en is nu herstela. In English this would be something like s video drivers were not functioning correctly and have now been repaired.

This is of course hugely irritating but it became even more so a couple of weeks ago when I first got a blue screen because of a similar error. Leading me to lose half a hour of work on my laptop. (and as anyone who has ever had exams knows, half an hour is not something you can always afford to lose) I ran the wizard and it sent me to the ATI website to look for drivers.
The inconvenience is that I've been able to find a lot of drivers, but none for the 3400 series. After searching internet for a while I finally found some drivers for these s... Read more

Answer:Satellite P300-1FY - BSOD due video driver issue

First of all you should post the exact BSOD code and what OS do you use. Then we can search on the Microsoft Knowledge Base for this issue and what is the reason for this.
So please post the BSOD code.

Furthermore I don?t understand why you can?t find a driver on the Toshiba website. The Satellite P300-1FY belongs to the PSPCCE series and therefore I can find a display driver for XP and Vista. So where is the problem? Maybe you should try to install this driver: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

But before you install the driver, remove the old driver first. Restart the notebook and clean your system with CCleaner. Restart the notebook again and then install the newest version from the Toshiba website.

The display driver on the manufactures website (ATI) doesn?t work because it?s only for desktop cards and not for notebooks. So you can?t install it and your notebook is only tested with the Toshiba drivers.

If the new driver doesn?t work you should try to update the BIOS too. You can find on the Toshiba page.

Good luck!!

I have a problem with my Toshiba Saellite P300-1FC
In general the Keyboard and all keys are working proper but sometimes a button is not working. When I press the button again (normal force) it works.

I tried already to recover the notebook but it doesn?t help.
Another problem are the soft keys on the right hand side to the power button. The buttons are not working. A recovery of the computer doesn?t help.

The illumination is also not working; illumination of the satellite logo + touch pad is ok. I recovered the Bios -> this was not the solution. The problem with the illumination is not a OS problem because it occur already during startup.

Any ideas regarding my problems?
Best Regards

Answer:Satellite P300 - Keyboard and Soft Keys issue

> When I press the button again (normal force) it works.
That?s the key. Use normal force. When I?m typing fast and the pressure on the keys is not good enough I can see missing letters in the text I write. To be honest I don't see it as a problem. The same happen on my machine too.

Illumination works only if this option is enabled. If I?m remembering well you can do it in BIOS settings directly or using option in HWsetup tool. You can find it in Toshiba Assist > Optimize. The same is on my P500 model.

A few weeks ago, I don't recall exactly when, Windows Vista on my Satellite P300-225 started to pass an incorrect scancode to applications when the ?Enter? key is pressed. It always sends the scancode of the ?Keypad Enter? key, even when I hit the one in the alphanumeric part of the keyboard. It did work correctly some time ago, but suddenly, it just started acting like this. No remapping of any keys.

Since there are quite a few programs that act different on these two keys, this has become quite an annoying issue.

The strangest part of it is, that the problem seems to be somehow related to Windows Vista, since the keys are correctly reported on Linux.

If anybody has a clue, please, let me know.

hi koniiiik,
i am not familiar with keymapping in vista but as you said it: "under linux everthing works correctly" and the issue is appearing only in vista.

or a program is corrupting the code table....

I have just taken delivery of a P300 19Q which seems fine other than....

1. The wireless doesn't work

2. The keyboard, in my opinion is c**p

I removed Vista as I'm using the laptop for recording music and XP is much better (not sure if this is related) but I cannot get the WiFi to work.
I have spent hours on the phone to Tiscali and Laptops Directs own tech help with no joy.

Also I'm not at all happy with the keyboard. The whole keyboard flaps about, the keys on the far left and right seem very solid but all the rest seem like they should be on a toy. Its this really how they should be?

I would appreciate a speedy reply as I'm undecided whether I should get a refund or replacement.

Many thanks

Answer:Satellite Pro P300-19Q WLan don't work in Win XP & keyboard issue

As far as I know the notebook uses a Intel WLan card. Right?
In such case you should update the BIOS to version 3.00 or higher.

Regarding the keyboard;
I don?t know what you mean exactly by ?rest seem like they should be on a toy? but it?s a common glossy black 105 button keyboard like these notebook keyboards:

You will find such keyboards on different notebook from different manufacturers.

But if you think there is a keyboard issue and that there is something wrong then contact the ASP in your country for a keyboard check? (just to be 100% sure)

My wifes p300 has a very confusing and annoying issue. She is now on her 3rd replacement the last two having the same problem.

I just shuts off intermittently for no reason, some times it will reboot however sometimes it wont. Then if I remove the battery and plug the power in it will reboot again however it will then shut off again and not reboot unless battery is put back in. I am thinking that it may be an issue with the battery and or the power cable as she says the problem will become worse if the computer has to run on battery power for any length of time.

I was just wondering if anyone else had come across this problem or had any suggestions as to what the problem might be.

Cheers Bill

Answer:Satellite P300 issue, shuts down and will not reboot intermittently.

It sounds to me like an overheating issue, and to save the machine from dying, the BIOS automattically shuts down.

Make sure that the fans are clear, (Just give them a good blow to clear any dust)

And always run the machine on a solid surface, making sure that the fan in/outlets (Probably on the left of this machine) have more than enough room to breathe.

Did you just hold F8 in on boot or were you continually tapping it ?

EDIT...Just read a link which advised to shut the laptop down twice and prior to the next boot, hold the 0 in and then switch on - this may give you the correct Recovery Menu

Hey all.

I'm going to unashamedly admit that I only came here for a fix to my problem. I'm sure this bothers you, and I'm sorry for that, but I'm at my wit's end.

I have a Satellite P300 lappy. The model number is PSPCCA-0C201Y (which the Toshiba website says is invalid) and the serial number is 49166418W (which the Toshiba website says is invalid.)

I was running Windows 7 on it, and the microphone was a little strange on Skype - it said I had two microphones, and no matter which one I had selected as the default, the other one was the only one that worked. But that was fine, changing my device for every conversation wasn't such a hassle.

I formatted, reinstalled Windows 7 and now neither of those selectable devices works. The device manager says that the only drivers that need updating are for managing USB devices. The inbuilt webcam works fine. But I can't make a peep on my microphone.

I can't find the correct drivers because I can't use my model number or serial number to identify what lappy I have on the Toshiba website's support section.

I'm lost. Ideas?

Thanks, folks.

Answer:Satellite P300 - webcam drivers/serial code issue

Your notebook model is Australian notebook model and I found it on Australian support page .
There you can find drivers for supported operating systems.

Have you installed 32 or 64bit Win7?
Have you installed Vista drivers?
Is sound card installed properly?

When the sound driver is properly installed and web cam application works properly Skype recognize mic automatically and it should be listed in Skype audio settings.

Have you tested Skype functionality with headset?

As it is not possible to answer to this thread:

I just want to let you know that BIOS default settings doesn?t solve the problem!! It is necessary to unplug the battery!

In my case I unplugged the power supply and removed the main notebook battery. My BIOS battery is not working anymore so the main notebook battery is responsible to save all BIOS settings.
After this procedure the notebook shows ?cmos checksum error defaults loaded? after the first boot sequence. Afterwards I set up the BISO and my problems were solved ?

Hi guys,

have Win 7 installed, 32 bit. Drivers installed of ll devices, no errors in device manager.

But per Windows session (boot / shut down) I can only use the O2 card reader (SDHC Sandisk 16 Gb) once.
No matter if I just take out the card, or use the "Windows cleaner" way to eject from the tray, the next time during that same session if I insert the card, no drive letter is created in the Windows explorer.

If I look in the device manager that time, an error 38 with exclamation mark is presented, based on "driver has been loaded before but not unloaded".

I can then only have a look at the card again if I first reboot Windows. Starts to become a really annoying issue since I tend to have the notebook in standby quite a lot, not shutting it down normally.

Are there any tips here ?

Answer:Satellite P300 - Card reader issue on Windows 7 32bit

Are you using the drivers from the original installation disc that came with the reader? They may be Vista driver that are not compatible with Win7.

Check the O2 website for updated drivers.

Toshiba Satellite P300 really superb machine it fits mostly all my needs.
I'm loyal to Toshiba company and had a lot of experience many years with Your products,
I like Toshiba most than any other company but now i've received problem with my Satellite P300.

I have Conexant HD SmartAudio 221 audiocard with lineout/spdif and mic/line in front jacks. I'm musician and sometimes using Line In port for recordings.
So after i bought new P300 laptop on Vista Home Premium OS, I discovered that line in and stereo mix are not in mixer and playback/recording devices in sound control panel.

So when i connect external sound to line-in i can't hear it from computer speakers, ports are working ok, drivers - newest provided by Toshiba support ver 4.36.7, also "show disconnected/disabled devices" set to on in sound menu.
The thing is i can record everything from that ports and playback after, but i can't hear sound when i recording in real time.

Also i can't hear my voice when I?m talking into mic, because as i found by default this ports under mute in playback mode and tabs for activating/deactivating that mute are disabled in registry.
On XP everything worked perfectly but in Vista its disaster.

I checked a lot of forums and portals. There are some tweaks for registry and other drivers, but not for Toshiba and Conexant!
Also found that newest drivers are not so loud if we compare preinstalled on laptop from manufacturer 4.36.6.

First of all my two +hotkeys+ (to set off the light and to start a media player) aren't working. The rest is working fine.
Second, when I scroll my +volume wheel+, a "c" appears whereever you can type in something.

Third, a few combinations have a strange effect when I put in numbers.
For example, I push 1 and directly after that a 6, a 5 shows up in between. Or I hold 0 and push 6 the +FN+ menu appears.

Can anyone help me with this problem?
I tried to look up in this forum, find different drivers but haven't found any yet.

I have windows vista 32-bits

Great thank you!

Answer:Satellite P300-13M Hotkey, volume scroll, numeral keyboard issue

First of all I recommend checking your BIOS.
If BIOS is not up to date, then update it!

I remember also that some has had an similar issue with the volume control wheel
The volume indicator level jumped and ccc appeared in all possible editors.
The guy solved this by cleaning the contacts and sensors near the volume wheel.
He used compressed air spray?
Maybe you should try this too..

Regarding the hotkeys issue;
First of all try to assign new application to each button.
This can be done using the Toshiba Button Support utility which can be found in Toshiba Assist -> Optimize.

You can find the exe files in folder program files/Toshiba/TBS

I recently brought a new adapter to replace my old one on my Tecra M5-388 through ebay, it has the Toshiba logo on it and safety symbols, and immediately after plugging it in my mouse started wobbling on the point I was resting on and the touch pad became rather non-responsive; unplug the power and it goes back to normal.

The thing is the old adapter had a clover leaf plug into the brick although this new one is a figure 8.
Is anyone aware of whether adapters are specific to each model?
I'm slightly concerned that an excess current is running through the laptop.

Any help would be great.

What adapter you have at the moment? Is it the same as the old one?
On the bottom side of the AC/DC adapter you can compare the part number.

For me it sounds like that the adapter is not compatible with the notebook.

I have a problem which is driving me to distraction.

Unless I'm staring at the touchpad when I do it, about 60% of the time I try to
left-click with the touchpad, I right-click it by mistake. I'm not sure whether this
is because the touchpad is offset so far to the left compared with the other
laptop I use, a Thinkpad, or what.

Anyway, the only way I think I can carry on using this machine is if I can
somehow change the settings so that wherever I click on the touchpad
it interprets it as a left-clift - I'd be quite happy to use the RH Windows key
to get context menus, etc.

Can I do this and how?

I'm using Win10 Pro 64-bit if that makes any difference.

TIA, Martyn

I'm having a stange problem with the touchpad of my Toshiba Satellite C70-A-14M.
After a few seconds of the start menu/desktop loading up, the functionality of the touchpad automatically switches from the normal free-moving cursor to only selecting the various tiles/menu bars etc. that are accessible on-screen.

The cursor freezes, but the touchpad and buttons still work, however they are only able to switch between the various objects on the screen that are capable of being selected, vastly reducing the functionality of the laptop.

I have tried the usual trick of turning my laptop off and on again, with no results.
The laptop is about two months old, so there is no new touchpad device driver to which I can upgrade, and I am unable to un- or re-install the existing one.

I have not yet tried a system restore, as I don't want to loose the programmes that I have downloaded and go through the hassle of re-installing them unless there is no other option.

So, what should I do next? Any help and advice would be much appreciated!

Answer:Satellite C70-A-14M - stange issue with the touchpad

I think you should check this document / workaround how to change some Synaptic touchpad settings.

I recently had major problems with my Satellite A200-AH6 PSAE0C notebook after I did a BIOS flash. I brought it in, got it repaired, and everything is running normally.

However, there are 2 problems which I cannot seem to figure out.

The first issue is with the volume control -- the scroll for the volume works fine, but the display bar does not show up on my screen indicating volume level. This is NOT a major issue at all, but I'd like to know if someone knows a solution to it. Maybe a missing .dll?

The 2nd issue (VERY IMPORTANT) is with the touchpad -- the scroll on the right side of it does not work anymore. I cannot find any problem with it, and I compared it to my brother's laptop (exact same kind) and it is identical. I assume there is a missing driver....please, someone help with this issue. It is critical that I can scroll up and down, because using Page Up and Page Down is just too annoying.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite A200 Touchpad Issue

Well just go to the toshiba drivers section, put your laptop model and look for the touchpad driver and install it to see if then the scroll works. (Don't know if it's the same for all toshiba laptops but if your laptop has the alps or something like that touchpad driver then install that one instead of synaptics)

The mouse, out of nowhere, starts to go to the right or to the left and there is nothing to do to remove it from the place. Sometimes it stops and others doesn't. This problem prevents us from working. It has nothing to do with the mouse (we tried several) or with docking station because it happens without the docking station.

Hey Guys,

I've been having an on and off issue with my touchpad for at least a couple of months now. I've tried doing the function +F9 thing with little effect. I also re-downloaded the synaptics driver which seems to make it work for a little while but then it started working only sporadically.

Currently my touchpad works some of the time, if it fails at first pressing Ctrl Alt Del and then Esc seems to make it work for a little while longer but after that it simply stops working. I'm a student and not having a fully functioning laptop is often a great hindrance so any help would be great.

Answer:Satellite Pro C660 - on and off issue with the Touchpad

My first question is: when did you notice this touchpad issue.

I mean, the Sat Pro C660 is an older notebook and if this issue did not appear from first day of purchase, then something has affected the touchpad functionality in the past.

The question is: is there something wrong with software or maybe touchpad module.
I think this can be answered only settings the notebook back to factory state.
If you recover the notebook using Toshiba recover disk, you will get exactly the same state like at the first day of purchase.

If touchpad would still not work properly, well then there is some hardware problem

I have Satellite C55-A-1R8, using Windows 8.1.
The Synaptics touchpad has always given some unpredictable results, whatever setings I have used or cancelled.

For example, it suddeny loses the ability to receive a double click, even though the icon still has 'tap to click' ticked; when I do click it, the cursor flies off into the top right corner of the screen and is difficult to control again.

The buttons continue to work normally, though, But if I sleep or hibernate the computer things are normal again immediately it wakes.
Also, the pad often picks up and moves icons/files without double clicking. I installed the most recent Synaptics driver update, but no change.

However, I am told that the casework on this model is so thin that fingers resting on it below the keyboard can interfere with the touchpad commands, and am beginning to suspect that this might be the reason for some of the odd behaviour.

If it is, can I insulate it with anything to prevent this happening?

Answer:Satellite C55-A-1R8 - Touchpad interference issue

Have you tried to reduce mouse sensitivity?

Since when have you noticed such strange touchpad behaviour? From the first day maybe?

I don't think it is the best solution for you but maybe you should reinstall operating system using original recovery image and test he touchpad functionality with “factory settings”.
If the problem persists it could be some hardware related issue so you can contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

I have a one month old Satellite L500-19Z operating on Windows 7 64bit.
Whilst using it to edit some photographs, it began to behave strangely. It was as if someone was rapidly depressing the mouse left button. I was unable to exit any program or use the Start Menu to reboot.

After disconnecting power, and battery, I started it in Safe Mode, but the problem was still there. If I hovered over any icon it brought the window up repeatedly. By disabling the touchpad using Fn+F9, I was able to use a graphic tablet to re-boot and it works as normal. I am reluctant to use the System Recovery or the Recovery Discs that I created when I bought it due to the number of third party programs that I would lose.

Has anyone experienced this problem please? What do I do to enable the touchpad to see if it is now working properly?
Many thanks

Answer:Strange issue with touchpad on Satellite L500-19Z

Can you enable/disable the touchpad by pressing FN+F9 as usual?

In your case I would also update the touchpad driver. You can download it here: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

If an external mouse works but the touchpad still makes problems I think you should use the Toshiba recovery disk to restore factory settings. After this you have the same settings as on the first day where you bought the notebook.

I have a Satellite A350D-122 laptop. I'm experiencing 2 issues I can't resolve.
- At some point, the touchpad scroll feature stops functionning. It simply deactivate itself and the only way to reactivate it is to reboot the computer.
- The picture on the webcam is dark. It's like there was no light at all in the room, the only thing that comes out are the light sources. I've tried to change the options but nothing changes on the screen.

I tried re-installing the drivers but the issues stills remain.

Answer:Re: Satellite A350 - Touchpad and webcam issue

1.I would try a touchpad driver update. Maybe something has muddled up the driver or something else so the virtual scroll function stop working. You can download a newer version on official Toshiba website: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

After touchpad driver installation make sure that virtual scrolling function is enabled in touchpad driver options of control panel.

Suddenly my touchpad has developed a mind of its own.
If I hover on something for a couple of seconds it is as though I have clicked on it.

It's really annoying as I've been deleting things I don't want to delete, selecting programs I don't want to select etc.etc.

I have looked at the Synaptics settings & can't find anything that may resolve the problem, although I am totally thick when it comes to anything like this.
If anyone can offer a solution which even I can understand I will be really, truly grateful.

Many thanks in advance.

All you can do is to check all these settings, especially change the sensitivity level in hope this behaviour will stops.

Satellite Pro P100 with Synaptics touch pad, was running Vista, now Win 7 64 bit.
The original driver had an option "disable when external pointing device connected".

I have installed a driver from Synaptics Synaptics_v14_0_3_C_XP64_Vista64_Win7-64_Signed_default.exe which does not have this check box.

It works fine except that sometimes the Microsoft Mouse turns off and on every few seconds as it or the touchpad fight each. I have to disable the touchpad.
Then next time I turn on. If I do so without a mouse, I cannot use the touchpad, until i plug in the mouse, reactivate, then unplug the mouse.

Try to install the Synaptics and Alps touchpad drivers from Toshiba European driver page.
Choose the Win 7 touchpad drivers released for a satellite L500 series.

By the way; the touchpad can be enabled and disabled using the FN + F9 button combination. Its not needed to have any options if FN + F9 works fine.

I have a new U920t-102 which I am very happy with, but I have this issue with the mousepad's right click (meaning the 'button' the user is able to press on the bottom-right side of the mousepad): sometimes it actually works as a right click, sometimes it works as a left click.
This is annoying especially during web navigation: I'm used to right click on links and open them in a new tab, but when the right click acts as left, I loose the current web page.

I tried to figure out what this behaviour depends on, looking at the animated synaptic icon in windows' tray bar while playing with the left and right click; if I continuosly press the right click button on the mousepad, after some repetitions it will consistely and correctly work as right click, but if press the left click once or more than once, the right click button works as left click for some pressures, and then 'corrects' itself and start again to work correctly.

Any idea/suggestion? is it a hardware problem?

Answer:Satellite U920t-102 touchpad right click issue

Usually the touchpad right / left click can be configured in the Synaptics settings.
Right click on Synaptics icon in tray and point to devices properties.
In buttons tab you will be able to choose right handed scheme or left handed.
Here you could choose the scheme appropriate for you.

You can also try to uninstall the Synaptics touchpad driver and could test the touchpad functionality without the usage of additional touchpad software.

But if this doesn’t help, your might have hardware problem

Just had delivery of a new Tosh T110-107 which I have to say looks wonderful, however a problem. One bootup the touchpad works ok but as soon as I connect the USB mouse then neither work - making the system unusable, until I disconnect the mouse and reboot. SO what have I done to it?

Uninstalled McAfee and addded Norton 360 and Office (both originals) and thats it, the problem was found before anything was done - as it came out of the box.

Win7 Home Premium, never had problems with Win7 but then not used it on a laptop especially this model. Can only imagine its config/software but straight out of the box? Tosh must know there is a problem them - they have too, yet sold it?

Hello, I'm a very experienced user and am extremely frustrated with the mouse pad on my brand new Tosh S50.

I am constantly finding the 'charms' bar appearing on the right hand side of the screen and the clock on the bottom left - for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

The mouse pointer can be in the middle of the screen and still it happens.
I do not believe I have a faulty mouse pad, I recon it's just a design flaw.

To approximate how often this happens, I would say that with every 5 minutes of use the charms bar appears for no reason about 20 times - it's incredibly frustrating and distracts me from my work. I could disable the touchpad and use a mouse but that's not the point I need this working!!

Anyone with any suggestions, or should I ask for a refund and buy something else?

Answer:Satellite S50-A-10V: touchpad issue - charm bar slides out

I think you are unaware of additional touchpad functionality and features.
The touchpad seems to support additional gesture (multi touch). This additional touchpad function can be useful in case you want to control some notebook function directly.

I recommend you reading the user manual (page 48) there you will find details about touchpad.
For example the gesture ?swipe? (quickly move the finger in from left the edge of the touchpad) show you recently opened apps. The swipe from right opens the Charm bar (search, share, start, devices, settings)

So this _is definitely NOT touchpad problem_ but the additional feature.

Hi folks, I'm new here and hope you can help me.

I have a Satellite L750D here which has a strange Keyboard/touchpad issue.

Recently my screen has been replaced and I toke the opportunity to replace the DD with a SDD.

I used the OS restore cd's which I created from the recovery partition and completely reinstalled Windows 7 64-Bit from those.

Everything seemed to work well until after the last reboot.

Then my after reboot, the keyboard wasn't working and neither the touchpad.
I tried rebooting / shutting down and starting again, no change.

I connected an USB keyboard and mouse, both work perfectly.

I reinstalled the touchpad drivers from the Toshiba website, still no change.

I then closed the lid and let the notebook go into sleepmode/hibernation and found that when I opened the lid/screen, that the keyboard was working again, but not the touchpad.

Fn-F9 made no difference.

I then pressed the button above the touchpad, but the touchpad remained dead. But after pressing that button, the keyboard went dead too!!?
Switching the button for the touchpad on/off made no difference, both keyboard and touchpad remained dead.

Rebooting made no difference either.

Throwing away the drivers in safe-mode led the drivers to be reinstalled, but both keyboard and touchpad remained dead.

The only thing to bring the keyboard back to life is closing the lid and going to sleepmode/hibernation and reawakening the notebook.

But press the button above ... Read more

Answer:Satellite L750D - Strange Keyboard/touchpad issue

I connected an USB keyboard and mouse, both work perfectly.

This is really strange… from my point of few, if the external keyboard and mouse works properly, then the controller should be OK, and this would mean that the malfunction must be related to the faulty keyboard / touchpad.

But at the other hand, you said that the keyboard works properly booting from Linux Live CD.
To me this makes no sense and I’m confused…

Anyway, since the notebook has been disassembled in order to replace the screen and other parts, I think something went wrong during this procedure and probably a part was affected…

In my opinion it’s advisable to replace the keyboard and to check if it will fix the issue.

I purchased this laptop early September and I am super happy with it, but there's two minor things that annoy me and I haven't been able to fix yet:

1) When coming out of sleep or standby, it never automatically re-connects to the wireless it's on, I have to manually do this every time. The windows Wireless service is running fine, so that's not it, but what is?

2) Sometimes the touchpad will stop working randomly and I have to either use a mouse or reboot to fix it. I have reinstalled the touchpad drivers. Turning the touchpad off/on using the function keys does not solve the problem.

Any help would be appreciated!

I am trying to solve some issues regarding touchpad. My Toshiba U400-150 PSU45E has been equiped in ALPS touchpad (instead od synaptics, which is much better by the way).

Previously I worked on another manufactures laptop with Synaptics and the software for it had advanced options, better than ALPS.

1. When I use ALPS driver the movement of coursor seems to be little "jumpy", any movement regulations don't help. So I uninstalled ALPS driver, installed Synaptisc and the movement was fluent. However the software for Synaptics did not include all the advanced options (such as touch areas, scrolling, etc). Therefore I restored the driver for ALPS again, and the 'jumpy' movement returned. I assume that the driver is not as good as synaptics.

2. I need actually emulation for middle button. In synaptisc there was such option in "touch areas". I was using top right corner for emulation of middle mouse button. I was searching for such option in ALPS driver but there is no any .

I woud be gratefull for any sollutions, suggestions regarding issue 1 and 2. Is there any possibility to emulate middle mouse button in ALPS?

I have an Alps touchpad on my Tecra and its very smooth, so maybe you just need to update the Alps driver?

Are you using XP or Vista?

Hello everybody,

I have two questions and I will highly appreciate your help.

First, when I got the laptop it used to have a Fn bar that comes down from the top of the screen when I press Fn, it shows all the Fn keys, now it disappeared. I need to get it back, I almost tried everything and nothing is there yet.

Second, the touch pad is not zooming anymore when I apply the 2 fingers in and out, it used to do that before.

My laptop is Satellite L505-13W

Thank you in advance

Answer:Satellite L505-13W - FN keys not shown and touchpad issue

Hi abdouni,

1. I think the problem is related to Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. Both tools control the FN keys and the Flash Cards appear if you press FN key.
You can download it on official Toshiba website: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Regarding the installation: First of all remove both tools and restart the notebook. Now install Value Added Package and restart again. Install Flash Cards Support Utility and make one restart. Now the FN keys should work again.

2. This could be related to Value Added Package too? So check my posting.
If it?s not work, reinstall the touchpad driver.

I just have a few issues with my L500.

I've only had it for 2 months and I am pedantic about it to the point that it is either always in a bag when not being used or on a desk when it is and I even clean it with a paintbrush.

Despite all this it looks like I've had it for years. There are chunks missing out of the case and scratches all over the thing and the little rubber feet either side of the webcam are coming unstuck and will eventually fall out.

The mouse pad is also doing strange things regardless of the settings I have selected for it. It sometimes will not work on the left hand side of the screen and will flick off to the right and I have to restart the machine to get it to work properly again or I have to tap it several times to get it to do anything at all or it scrolls wildly and I can't get it to stop.

Basically it's under warranty, I'm unimpressed with that fact that it is obviously made of shoddy material and is being damaged when I am taking care of it and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do about it.

I'm thinking abnormal wear and tear is possibly the case here.

> Despite all this it looks like I've had it for years. There are chunks missing out of the case and scratches all over the thing and the little rubber feet either side of the webcam are coming unstuck and will eventually fall out.

Hmm? strange? what to say? my L505 is some month old but it looks like purchased at the first day.
No scratches, nothing! Of course I?m careful with this notebook and use a microfiber cloth in order to clean this. I don?t use it ?on the road? and I think this is the reason why it looks so nice? the plastic covers looks like other common covers used in other notebooks models? so don?t see any big differences.

> The mouse pad is also doing strange things regardless of the settings I have selected for it. Regarding the touchpad;
I think you should take a look into touchpad configuration settings: control panel -> mouse -> device settings -> settings (or properties)
There you can configure the settings provided by Synaptics driver.
Note; touchpad uses both drivers: Alps and Synaptics?
If you have some issues then an update might be recommended.

Hi Everyone

I bought Toshiba Satellite A40-221 more than year a go and it works perfect. I?m a heavy user maybe I work on it about 12hrs average. Sometimes I work in graphic manufacturing specially 3d beside games. last month the output wire of the charger is burned downed and it seems to be a shortage happened .I fixed the charger many times myself but it burned again so I sent it to a workshop the fixed it and they said that they changed something inside the charger .when I used it a noisy sound comes from it and it raises up I didn't notice it before when I use any heavy program like games or 3d render stuff. When I?m working on the batteries the same sounds might be arises from the notebook itself. The notebook works fine but this sound I don't know is it a serious thing?

Also the charger becomes very hot when I play games for long time but when I use it on web surfing, programming, writing...etc no heat is observed.
Have I sent it to Toshiba me please?

Good afternoon all,

I currently have a Satellite series T110-107 and am having issues with the touchpad.

I start the computer up and the touchpad works fine for a few seconds, after this the touch pad ceases to work in its full capacity.
If i roam my finger over the touchpad and the pointer doesnt move, sometimes it will move up and down but not as it should.

Is this a common problem, or is it a hardware issue....or is it the fact i'm just not used to or have the correct settings on windows7?

Any help wuold be great as this is very frustrating!

Kind regards!

Answer:Satellite T110-107: touchpad issue - pointer doesn't move sometimes

Hi All

My Satellite T130-11H is having the same fault with the mouse, every now and again the mouse just will not move it will just jump around the screen when I try to move it, it can only be resolved by rebooting my system, I have not changed any settings since I had my laptop so I know it is not what I have done. Recently my adapter had problem with charging the Laptop (Model M45-S2692), so i had purchased another adapter. The new adapter worked well for couple of months and now its behaving differently.

If i plug the adapter into the Laptop, the mouse is not working and works otherwise.

Does anybody have any idea on what the problem could be.

Kindly advise.

Answer:Strange issue with new AC adapter and mouse on Satellite M45

Hi buddy,

so, may I ask you if the adapter you purchased is an original toshiba AC-adapter?? Why didn?t you contact a servicepartner, since they had probably exchanged your AC-adaptor for free because you have something which is called warranty.

How don?t you know that the adapter you have, where is not known if it?s original or not, did not damaged anything on your mainboard of your machine.
Maybe it has nothing to do with your AC-adapter...

I would appreciate some feedback from you. Just a little description what a kind of AC it is, when you had bought your machine and if the error could be reproduced with removing the AC.

My Toshiba laptop was working fine with the AC adapter plugged in (the battery was on it's last breath and would not charge at all, so I always had to keep it plugged it). I had to move so I unplugged the laptop (did not shut down). After the move I tried turning it on and it would not.

The AC Led light is on, so it's not the adapter.
The Battery light is amber and flickering (it wasn't flickering before)
When I press the power button to power up the laptop - the Power and the CD/DVD Led lights go on, but not the HD light. And the screen stays blank.
I hear no sounds, seems the HD is completely dormant.

There are a few files on the HD that I absolutely have to have. I'm not too concerned with getting the laptop to be operational, I just need to get those files and the laptop can be recycled.

Any ideas? How to get it to power up at least once, so I could copy the files?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite power issue with AC adapter pluged in

Try taking the battery out of the laptop and powering the laptop on (with the AC adapter plugged in obviously). Another option for recovering the files would be to get an adapter to connect the laptop drive to a usb port on another pc.

Hi all,

I have a Satellite A300-2CT notebook with Windows XP SP3 for one year. There is a problem in the ethernet network adapter, I think.

If I connect my computer to a wireless network, everything goes fine. However, if I connect the computer to a wired network through ethernet adapter, then problems start.

A little bit later after connection; 'something' happens and my windows theme turns to 'classic', moreover none of the applications that uses sound card start NOT to work. Also, all system slows down very much for every one or two minutes. When I check the running applications in this 'slow times', I see that Deferred Procedure Calls takes a lot of CPU time.

Problem does not finish with all these, after I disconnect ethernet connection and restart my computer, wireless adapter application (Atheros) takes the control of wireless connections, so I cannot connect the wireless networks that I wanted. I have to restart computer again to fix this.

I have updated the driver of ethernet network adapter, nothing changes.

As a conclusion, I think that ethernet network adapter has a problem and maybe it conflicts with other hardware (like sound card).

Is there any suggestion to solve this problem?

Answer:Satellite A300-2CT - Ethernet network adapter issue

Hi alp37,

I never heard about such an issue and I think everything what you can do is updating the LAN and sound driver. Both you can download from official Toshiba website: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

If it doesn?t work I think it?s a software problem I think? I would recommend reinstalling Windows from Toshiba recovery disk. That can restore factory settings and then you can test it again.

Hi there!

I have a question about A200-10W Video Out feature. In my case there is no problem with video out, it works flawlesly. But there is a minor problem.

If I connect my laptop to TV, there seem to be some refresh rate or scan line problems on TV, quite annoying to, that is, if i have the laptop connected to power line. If it runs on battery, the picture is good.
Anyone knows a workaround to this problem?

Best regards,
Haiku ;)

Answer:Satellite A200-10W: refresh rate issue on TV while using AC adapter

I guess that's the same problem as if you have an annoying buzzing on audio, if you connect audio-out to an amplifier.
Believe it or not, sometimes it really helps if you just turn around the AC-plug in the wall socket.
When this doesn't work you could try to connect it to a wall socket which is connected to another circuit in your house.
This helped in my case.
There can be many causes for this problem - when I googled for it - in German for "Brummschleife" - the next step would
be to buy a multi-socket adapter wirh a special filter.
This also doesn't help if the problem is somehow caused by an antenna connection, there are also ( expensive ) solutions
for this.

Please experiment and report !

Greets, Matz.

Hi since buying this laptop I have had quite a few problems with the touchpad - I have installed latest driver says it is working properly but its not.

I cannot use the right click button and sometimes even the left one does not work - it does double click on the pad itself but the silver buttons at the bottom of the touch pad seem to not want to work and sometimes you need the right click in tasks you are undertaking.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does the touchpad work using an fresh OS from the Toshiba recovery DVD?
I mean we have to find out if this issue can be related to the software or hardware problem.
I read a lot about some touchpad troubles after installation of mouse driver or software?
So it would be very interesting to known if the touchpad issue and strange behavior would also appear using a new, fresh reinstalled OS.

After changing my AC supply adapter (the old one no longer worked) I am having problems with the battery charging circuit.
When the adapter is plugged in and the laptop is switched off it charges the battery OK.

If I then power it up it will charge the battery until fully charged, the charge light will then turn blue for a few seconds and then go out.
The battery will then run down until it is fully discharged although the AC adapter is showing as connected.
Once the battery is fully depleted the laptop crashes. Once off it will start to charge again.

Anyone got any ideas to help me please.

Answer:Satellite P200-1EE: battery charging issue after replacing AC Adapter

Did you buy an original Toshiba AC Adapter or an aftermarket Adapter?

You should use a Toshiba Adapter to avoid problems like this.

Sounds like your Adapter may not be supplying enough Amps, or its the wrong Voltage.

The basic touchpad functions are OK, but the ability to scroll by dragging your finger along the right-hand side or bottom of the touchpad has disappeared.

I've tried re-installing the driver but no luck.

I've seen similar comments in another thread ( where the solution suggested was to restore from the recovery CD.

This seems a bit drastic for a touchpad problem and I'm reluctant as I'm about 6 months in on this machine and don't really want to go back to scratch.

Any other ideas??

Answer:Equium P300-16T - Touchpad scrolling has stopped working

Hmm, yes it?s drastically to use the Toshiba Recovery disk and to reinstall the whole system only to get back the touchpad functionality.
What you could do is to check if the touchpad scroll function was configured properly.

In control manager -> mouse you should find the necessary settings.

Furthermore the Equium P300 PSPC2E needs two touchpad drivers.
I don?t know what driver have you reinstalled but you should reinstall both; Synaptics and Alps Electric

Hi all

I have an Equium P300-16T with a Synaptics touchpad.
A few months back I had the following problem. As soon as I touch the touchpad, or left/right button, the icon appears to show the left button as being depressed; it would be fine up until this point. I updated the drivers, tried a system restore, checked under the touchpad button for obstructions etc and nothing changed.
I did a completely fresh reinstall of Windows ... still the same problem. I suspected a faulty touchpad, so contacted Topaz for a replacement touchpad, fitted that and still the same problem.

Sooooo ... having eliminated faulty drivers/software/hardware, I'm running out of ideas. Is there anything else I can check?

Works fine with a USB mouse.

Answer:Equium P300-16T with Synaptics touchpad. Left button stuck?

> As soon as I touch the touchpad, or left/right button, the icon appears to show the left button as being depressed; it would be fine up until this point

I think you should check the settings.
In Control Panel -> Mouse -> Last tab (Advanced) -> Advanced settings button

Here you should be able to get all touchpad settings.
In my case I found interesting function in Pointer speed and tapping settings.

There is a taping area and if you enable taping you could get a access to other tapping settings.
The option is called DragLock? in my case its set to Auto release and auto release delay is set to short.
Recommend checking this!

I lost the product recovery disk for my P100, but I do have the disks for a P30 and P300, both of which are windows XP.

My P100 which my husband uses has become so slow that I feel I have to reload it. But when I tried starting up holding 0, F8 and F12 (one of them gave me a menu, I forget which), I couldn't find an option which allowed it to return to factory settings.

So I wonder if I can use one of the other product recovery disks on the P100? Would really appreciate advice. (I used to own a P30, and I still own a P300)

Answer:Can I use product recovery for Satellite P300 on Satellite P100?

Every single recovery image is designed for certain notebook model. Why?
Every notebook model has specific hardware infrastructure and also specific drivers are needed.

When you compare two different notebooks there are different CPUs, graphic card, modem, cam maybe and so on. So if you want to have properly working OS this will not work.

Question: Satellite P300-1CN

Recently I purchased a Toshiba Satellite P300-1CN, the OS is Windows Vista Home Premium Edition. Ater exactly 7 days the laptop would not boot to windows. It froze twice that day and I had to force restart it by holding down the shut down button. After the second shut down it would not boot to windows. Couldn't even choose to boot in safe mode . So I sent it for repairs and after 2+ weeks Toshiba sent it back today. There was a faulty HDD and it was replaced and tested.

However considering the laptop had problems within 7 days of taking it out of the box I am considering asking for a replacement or refund. Do you think I should bother, was the incident a fluke with the defective piece gone or could this laptop possibly be a mess?

I'm going to buy a solite state drive for my P300-175. Now problem is that I don't know wich kind of SATA my mainboard supports. Does anybody knows if the P300-175 has SATA150 or SATA300? Not the answer but may give you some pointers. I have a P500 with a Toshiba MK5055GSX drive. The specification this has is a Serial ATA Revision 2.6 / ATA-8 hardware interface and a maximum data transfer rate of 3Gb/s. However the transfer rate through the PCI Express bus is the important factor and for my laptop it is reported as 2.5Gb/s BUT I don't know if that is actual or a theoretical maximum - if you want to find out then that is the rate reported by a program PC Wizard 2010 (free download from as the PCI Express bus link speed

Sattlelite P300 with 2 HDDs (250 (=232))GB.

The first drive seems to be partitioned as C: (Vista) and F: (Data). The F: drive contains HDDRecovery folder, which I understand is for recovering Vista - using F8.
The F: drive is taking up 117GB, and is empty apart from the recovery data.

I seem to be able to create additional folders on this F: drive, but I am concerned about the reliability of any data in these additional folders, since it is on the 'recovery' partition.

I want to shrink this F: drive, and add a 10GB FAT drive at the end. Then I want to install Linux on the 2nd HDD, using the Toshiba boot options to choose the boot drive at start-up (NOT installing GRUB on HDD1, but on HDD2). The 10GB FAT at the end of the 1st HDD will allow for sharing data between Linux/Vista.

So, questions:
1) Is it safe to use the F: drive (recovery) for normal Vista data storage?
2) Will the recovery possibilities be affected in any way if there are additional data folders on the recovery drive? (Note: I'm not touching the HDDRecovery folder in any way, and I have made recovery DVDs).
3) Can I shrink the F: drive without affecting recovery options?

Many thanks

Answer:Satellite P300 - How to use both HDD's?

> The first drive seems to be partitioned as C: (Vista) and F: (Data). The F: drive contains HDDRecovery folder, which I understand is for recovering Vista - using F8.
Correct? this is the Toshiba HDD recovery which allows you to reinstall the OS from the HDD.

> I seem to be able to create additional folders on this F: drive, but I am concerned about the reliability of any data in these additional folders, since it is on the 'recovery' partition.
You can store other files on this F partition but don?t remove or change the HDD recovery folder because this would affect the HDD recovery functionality!

> I want to shrink this F: drive, and add a 10GB FAT drive at the end.
Someone here in the forum reported that the HDD recovery didn?t function after the partition has been shrunken.

However, I recommend creating firstly the Recovery DVD and then you could test this.
If something will go wrong you can boot from the recovery disk and can set the notebook back to the early state.

Hello there,

Now I'm wondering where I can buy a new fan for this model?
I found a site in nz, but the fan is for the P305 series, and I'm not too sure if it would be compatible with my notebook.

Would anyone advise me on where I can get a new cpu fan for this series?

P305 is probably model offered in US but it must be the same as P300 in Europe or AU so I think it should be the right one.

I don?t know where you can order it but try to use Google and check if you can find some online store in AU where you can order it.

I can also imagine you can order it by nearest authorized Toshiba service provider. Make a call and ask.
