Satellite P200-1ft: second harddisk makes a loud noise

Question: Satellite P200-1ft: second harddisk makes a loud noise

Hello,

yesterday I have buy the Satellite P200-1ft.

The problem: the second harddisk is very loud.
I never heard a notebook that is so loud like this thing, it's never normal.

Can I send the harddisk to toshiba or must I send the complete Notebook to reclame the harddisk?

Preferred Solution: Satellite P200-1ft: second harddisk makes a loud noise

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite P200-1ft: second harddisk makes a loud noise

Hi Uli

You cannot send only a notebook part to the Toshiba authorized service provider.
If you think something is wrong with the HDD then you have to contact the ASP in your country and the guys should be able to help you.

But note; if the HDD is loud then this doesn?t mean that there is a hardware malfunction.
My HDD clicks and makes some noises since 3 years but it runs well, without any troubles?

Greetings mate

Hi,I have lenovo 3000 y410 laptop. The fan of the laptop makes loud noise due to sudden increase and decrease of its speed. The noise suddenly crescendoes... as if my laptop sings an opera everyday.Only thing being this opera concerns me about my laptop's health.I have recorded the sound. If anyone wants I can send it.There is no way I can attach it here. Someone please tell me the solution of it. Btw, is there anybody else who is facing the same problem with the laptop's fan?

Answer:Fan makes loud noise.

try to clean your air vent by blowing it with compressed air, and see whether you dislodge any dusts, it is probably dirty now and needs to be cleaned........... also install HWmonitor (a free download off the net) and check your CPU temp....... if got warranty, let the Lenovo service people fix it up for you, if not then it is fairly easy DIY job.

So i was using my Compaq Evo N620c laptop( Windows XP) and i put it on stand by. When i came back, i started the laptop up and it started making a really loud high pitched noise almost like a whistle. I restarted the laptop and it started making the same noise. I went on safe mode and the noise stopped and everything louded perfectly. Than when i went back on my regular account and it started making the noise again. The noise only starts at the blue loading screen for XP. I had this laptop for 2 years and this is the first time this ever happened.

Will the noise stop if I open up my laptop and use a duster ( high pressure air) and i take out all the dust out of my fan and hard drive?

Thank You

Answer:Laptop makes a really loud grinding noise

No way to tell for sure what the noise is coming from with the info provided. Could be a fan, could be a hard drive. I suggest you go ahead and try blowing the dust out with canned air through the cooling vents. Use short bursts instead of a continuous blast. First blow air into the exhaust port first, then into the intake port. Repeat until no more dust appears.

Try one thing first... mute the sound. Audio hardware can do some strange stuff.

I had closed my laptop cover a few minutes before (or maybe much less?) so it was in some state of hybernation. When I opened it, I pressed the power button and it made such a loud, high-pitched noise that it was piercing and my ears are still ringing from it.

Any ideas? I timidly started it up and it seems to be working just fine. I'm backing it up now.

Thanks, Peter

Just from memory and hoping it might help someone---- An appalling noise when least expected. Out of the blue comes a br.a.a.a..a.ap like the thing was losing teeth from a cog somewhere.
About 15 years ago. This was first heard on a nearly new Epson inkjet. I phoned and an Epson man called, wiped the shiny rail (the track of the print head) and smeared a trace of thin oil on the same rail. Job done!
It seems that some go dry and the print head will not slide freely as it should. A stepper motor does its best but stalls and makes this horrifying noise.
Yesterday I wanted to scan a document with an Epson Perfection. The change from quiet order to absolute panic when the same destructive barp shook me rigid.
Fortunately I remembered long ago and the cause/cure were the same.
I used a narrow strip of cloth damped with a silicone/ptfe lubricant, everything is back to normal.
What made this different was that the rail is inside the scanner which had to be opened first. In short, remove two small self-tap screws at ends of the hinge on the base of the unit. This will allow thin screwdrivers to prize it open from this side until plastic lugs let go and the unit is open. None broke. It is a risk but with patience and no small bits to fall out, what have you to lose.

Answer:If your printer or scanner makes loud noise......

Have had that noise several times with the dot matrix printers we used to use for invoice printing. A quick wipe of the slider bar with solvent and then with the proverbial oily rag - job done for another few months.

I got Counter Strike Global Offensive on my laptop, and as soon as it started running this very high pitched deafening sound started coming from my mic. I cannot seem to fix it.

Answer:I got CSGO on my laptop and now it makes a loud feedback noise

Does the noise continue when you use the mic with anything else that has recording/mic capabilities?

If it does, then there something wrong with the microphone. If it doesn't the it is probably with the game.

Well, the problem could be that upon launching "CSGO" your mic is automatically adjusted to be the at its highest sensitivity.

To fix this, please do the following.

1. Load "Steam", then go into "SteamApps".
2. Next click "Common", then select "CounterStrike:GO"
3. Click on "CSGO", then "CFG" and finally "config".
4. Open the "config" with Notepad or Notepad++
5. Now, in Notepad, click on "Edit" and then "Find Next".
6. Type the following in the "Find Next" window... voice_mixer_volume "1.0"
7. Change it to the ammount you want.
1.0 = 100%
0.50 = 50%
0.25 = 25%

8. Now save the "config" file.

You sould no longer have the problem.

Answer:Laptop makes loud clicking noise when trying to boot

Hi Janbiv2
Thanks for writing to us.
Please run diagnostics from f12 menu and observe for any clicking noise during test.
The noise could be either from fan or from the HD.
You can remove the HD and try on another machine if possible or try another HD on this machine.
Also run the machine without the HD and observe if the noise stops.
Do keep us posted about the test results.

Just finished installing my upgrades to my computer, including a nice new H100, and it would appear my hopes for a silent PC one day have been blown out of the water, with this cooler at least. The pump unit is making a sound like...well...a loud pump really, a constant grinding/buzzing/humming noise, kinda like a failing hard drive spinning. I know for a fact they are not meant to perform this way, and I have read many topics about this, but I am a little uncertain still.

Has anyone actually encountered this problem and/or knows how to fix it? Replies I have seen involve:

-Shaking it/bending pipes/generally moving it about (perhaps moving air bubbles?)
-Lowering the voltage (apparently at 12V the pump can be prone to this)

Obviously the shaking/moving thing is a pain cause you just gotta keep doing it till it works (or doesn't), and it requires the removal of the block which requires thermal paste to be reapplied, etc, pain in the ass. The voltage thing sounds very plausible, but I'm not sure exactly how to fix it.

Can anyone give me a specific/accurate explanation of what the noise is and/or how I can (prefereably not might, but rather can) fix this?

Thanks.

Answer:H100 pump makes somewhat loud grinding noise

Update:

This site here had quite a few solutions such as those I mentioned earlier:
Corsair H100 pump noise

I have tried tapping the pipes, that only made it a bit louder, and I've cycled through the pump settings but that has done nothing. I don't want to remove the block because I'm in debt and I have no thermal paste I can use if I need to replace what is on there already which is probably a good idea. I have no molex to molex adapter I can use to make a makeshift voltage adapter either. Bit of a predicament :P

Hello,

My CD drive is making loud noises. This doesn't occur all the time. For example,I'm watching a DVD - Criminal Minds Season 4 and it allowed me to watch the episodes fine but when I tried to watch a deleted scene, it made this loud grinding noise and it wouldn't stop even when I clicked stopped in Windows Media Player. It only stopped when I removed the DVD.

This also occurred when I was watching another DVD, I was trying to skip through it and it made that loud grinding noise again but it still played after it got to where I wanted it to be. But with the Criminal Minds DVD, it won't work even when I leave the DVD grinding to see if it'll go to the deleted scene.

I don't understand what's going on. I barely used it before but now it's acting up. I never dropped my laptop or hit it.

I'm attaching the sound it makes. I hope there's a way I can fix this on my own.

Btw, the deleted scene worked on my sister's Toshiba laptop. It made no loud noises. It was smooth.

Edit: Here is the sound it makes. https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...int=file%2cm4a It's the one named DVD drive

Answer:Asus Laptop CD Drive Makes Loud Grinding Noise

A DVD drive will make noise. Whirring and a little bit of clunking and ticking are normal, but a solid grinding sound does not sound good. You may have to replace that DVD drive.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop, about 4 years old.

I've had this problem for a while now. Whenever I take my laptop inside my bedroom, unplugged or plugged in, doesn't matter, when I try to watch a YouTube video, 10-30 seconds in my laptop freezes and makes a loud buzzing noise from either my headphones or speakers (depends on what I'm using). If I leave it in my room it can take up to 1 minute to recover, while if I grab it and walk out of my room, and go to the living room it recovers immediately. My bedroom is 11-12 meters away from the router (I'm 99% sure this is an internet issue), and I have 3-4 bars of internet connection when inside it.
We also have an old computer (like 2008 or something, but the specs are pretty bad) and when we used to have it inside my bedroom it would never crash (we use wireless internet with the desktop as well, with a usb wireless adapter). Both are running the same operating system (Windows 7)

This has been a problem since the first time I tried to take my laptop in my room. Due to this problem, I am forced to do everything on my living room aka no privacy. I'm begging for a solution.
I did not buy this laptop, it was a gift from someone from what I remember. It used to have a hard drive which broke (had this problem with the first harddrive), so we changed to another harddrive, then that broke as well and now i'm using a Kingston SSD, and the problem is still here. I know its not a harddrive issue, just stating that the problem still ... Read more

Hi everyone,
I have a really annoying problem with my Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop. Whenever I want to play games on it, the laptop fans start to make an unbearably loud noise that just doesn't let me play at all. This even happens with relatively old games with low system requirements, such as age of empires 3 and league of legends.
This laptop is supposed to be good for gaming, but the fan noise problem makes playing video games virtually impossible. It looks like the computer is going to overheat and break down at any moment. I bought this laptop almost three months ago. Is there something Dell can do about my problem? Can I get a new laptop under warranty? Maybe it's just a specific problem with the one I bought.
Please give me some solutions, thanks.

Hi there!

I think I have a really similar problem!
Since I bought my computer that happens but not on startup. When I am using it, it just freezes, makes a loud sound and I can't do anything and to turn off, I need to use the same radical technique! Hold on the reset button and sometimes I also need to remove my battery.
Now it is happening almost every day.

I don't know how to run those hard disk self test, or BIOS, to try to find out what is wrong with my computer. I have a Satellite Pro U300. Could someone help me?
I hope we will find out what is wrong.
Ah! Now I use windows 7, and before Vista and the problem happens with both of them...

Thanks in advance,

Fernanda

Answer:Satellite Pro U300 - It just freezes and makes a loud sound

Hi fefalm,

If you have this problem since you bought your computer, why you didn?t contact an authorized service provider to fix the problem or ask a seller for a replacement one?
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact nearest authorized service provider!!!

If it happens on different operating systems, it seems to be a hardware malfunction. Theoretically it could be related to the HDD or another part?

The HDD you can test with special diagnostic tools like Drive Fitness Test. Ask Google to find it.

I hope someone may be able to tell me how to fix the problem I'm having with my modem. My modem makes a loud humming static noise while dialing to get on the internet or to talk with someone and then disconnects and ends the call immediately after dialing. Sometimes there is no static noise while dialing and then the loud humming starts immediately after dialing and the telephone call terminates after about 30 seconds. On one call, I heard someone talking from the other end of the phone line but couldn't understand what they were saying because of the loud static.
I have an IBM Aptiva computer, with a windows95 operating system and an IBM Aptiva 28.8 mwave Data Fax modem which is located right on the mother board. I bought the computer new about 5 years ago.
I'm not too familiar with technical terminology, although I have looked in every part of my computer. I looked at a lot of things under system, modem, network neighborhood, program manager and communications, but everything looks normal. IBM notified me that they don't stock this modem any longer. I'm at a complete loss of any new ideas on how to fix this problem exept to try a new modem which I'm a little hesitant to buy until I'm sure the one I have is bad. Any help I can get woud be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Satellite A205 makes loud steady beep after turning on

In my opinion this could be a keyboard malfunction.
It can?t be a hardware issue like a faulty RAM or mainboard because the notebook boots into Windows.

Maybe the internal keyboard is not connected properly or you holding a key at start up. I think a key is always pressed at boot.
Check the keyboard for dust or something like that or exchange it.

I recently purchased a Toshiba-P500 in Late October/Early November and recently the hard-drive light will flash non-stop while there are clicking noises coming from the laptop (Even if im doing nothing)

Also my fan will randomly get REALLY loud but usually runs mediumly loud all the time, I've rarely heard it actually quiet even when I first start it up and nothing is running

The laptop itself is on my desk and elevated up so the fan is completely ventilated, Also the surface is regularly wiped down (about twice a week)

Answer:Satellite P500 - Fan overly loud and makes clicking noises

Hi There

If the clicking or knocking sound is happening with high HDD use and sounds like a light tap with a light hammer on wood then it's your HDD and not necessarily the fan.
Fans generally have a hummimg and more regular whining sund when failing.

First thing I'd do is take you laptop somewhere cool in temperature and prepare to back up your HDD files if you haven't already.
Second thing is to install a utility which will let you analyse the SMART indicators for your HDD(s) - mine has 2x 500Gb HDDs, this should tell you if the HDD thinks it's about to die.
There is also a diagnosis utility called PC Diagnostic Tool available via All Prorams/TOSHIBA/Utilities if you have installed it.

I would then look into contacting your local Toshiba support centre to get your macine checked out and any warranty covered items replaced.

Hello, this is my first post!

I bought a Satellite P200-1BA laptop and 2.0 speakers (Creative T10). When I plug the speakers on the laptop a noise appears from the harman/kardon speakers which are embedded on the laptop. The same noise appears if I plug headphones instead of the speakers.

If I remove completely the speakers or the headphones the noise stops.

Does anyone knows how this can be fixed?

Answer:Noise from the speakers when plugging headphones on Satellite P200-1BA

If it is a hissing/static noise try updating your sound drivers and your video driver, I had a similar problem where the speakers worked ok but would hiss when I plugged anything into the earphone port.

Hope this helps

I am trying to video chat with my girlfriend over the computer. She has a Satellite M305D-s4830 with a built in camera and mic. Her mic seems not to work correctly. It makes loud crackling noises that make it extremely difficult to hear her. Skype, too, keeps displaying a popup telling her that there is a lot of background noise.

It makes this noise regardless of whether she is speaking or not, or ether there is any ambient noise in the room. It does however, seem to be worse when the laptop is resting on her lap.

We are looking to rid that terrible noise coming from the mic. Any suggestions? IS there some sort of software that allows her to calibrate the mic at all? Or is it just faulty?

Answer:Satellite M305d-s4830 - microphone makes loud crackling noises

Tell here to right click on the speaker icon in the task bar, select recording devices then go to properties of the microphone set as default, adjust the volume settings, max out the volume settings then add about 10% boost, that is what i did when i had similar problem with skype. In skype tell here to go to options then audio settings and make sure the right device is selected under microphone then save, everything should be working ok now.

bball 1561 i also have a problem and was wondering if you could help, recently i reinstalled vista to the same laptop that you gf has but i could no t locate the mic drivers, so i was wondering if it would be possible if you could ask you or your gf to send me a copy of the drivers they aren't big so they won't take long to send

Hi ,

I have a strange thing going on with the fan, it makes a loud noise when the laptop is at cool temperature.

Other strange thing is when i open a demanding app like games, the laptop starts to be hotter of course and the fan became to her normal sound. when i close the game, the laptop gets cooler and the noise of the fan cameback.
i opened the laptop and i cleaned the components, such as the fan, and nothing has changed.
since the temperature is low i dont think i have to change the thermal paste in the cpu and the gpu.

tldr; loud strange noise of fan when laptop is cool, and a normal sound while opening a demanding app.

I bought L555-12V at MediaMarkt two days ago. The fan noise is terribly loud.
The fan turns at 70-80% with a CPU load of just 2 or 3 % when just surfing with firefox and no other open programs.

It sounds like a hair-drier. It's so loud you can't stand to be near the laptop for more than 10 minutes. This makes it impossible to work with.

I have tried everything. Uninstalled unnecessary software, altered the Windows power profiles, changed the Toshiba Power Saver settings; on ?maximum performance? the fan never turns off and on ?battery optimized? the fan is off for a minute then on at an incredibly loud 80% for a minute and so on. On/Off.

Is anyone else having these problems with fan noise?

Is this the same problem that A500 owners had with the BIOS 1.20 on their machines?

Will there be a BIOS update for the L555-12V like there was for the A500?
This cured their fan noise fault. At present there is no new BIOS posted on the support page.

If not I will have to take the laptop back for a refund. I would find that a shame as the laptop seems otherwise fine. However this machine is unusable for any length of time in it's current state.

> changed the Toshiba Power Saver settings; on ?maximum performance? the fan never turns off and on ?battery optimized? the fan is off for a minute then on at an incredibly loud 80% for a minute and so on. On/Off.

maximum performance means that the cooling modules would run with full power. This means that the fan will run always!

battery optimized means that the cooling fans will start to rotate only if the temperature would reach an certain level? therefore the cooling modules goes off if the temperature would decreases and would start again if the temperature level would increase?

> Will there be a BIOS update for the L555-12V like there was for the A500?
Who knows? I have checked the Toshiba European driver page and didn?t find an BIOS update for L555-12V (PSLWSE) series? I found a BIOS only for PSLW8E series?

However, I think you should wait a little bit and should check the driver page in the next time? maybe new BIOS would be available?

Hello,

I just purchased the Toshiba Satellite Z830 - 10J and am very surprised by the loud fan noise!

I read on other forums that the noise might be louder depending on the device or that a BIOS update might help slowing down the fan activity when the laptop is running idle. Does someone know if there is a remedy to the fan noise?

For me it is really impossible to work with such an ongoing noise!!!

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Loud Fan noise on Satellite Z830-10J

At the moment don?t think about BIOS update.
What you should try at first is to change ?Cooling method settings?.

Open power profile that you use (probably Balanced) > Advanced power options > Toshiba Power Saver Settings > Cooling Method and change both options to ?Battery Optimized?.

It should reduce cooling fan activity.

Hi,
I have a strange thing going on with my fan, she keeps making a loud noise despite the laptop is cool.

What is even stranger is when i play a game, the laptop become hotter of course and the fan start turning with high speed but with a normal noise, it almost disappears after 15min gaming or so..
and when i close the game the laptop starts to cool down and the fan starts to be loud.
btw, i opened the laptop, and i cleaned the every component, i disassembled the fan and cleaned it, it wasn't that dirty since the laptop is almost two years old, but i didn't renew the thermal paste in the cpu or the graphic card. but i dont think that matters since the laptop is cool when the fan is being noisy.

Hi
Since I upgraded to Windows 7, I have noticed 2 problems with my P200:

1. The FN function keys (e.g. FN + F6 to reduce screen brightness) no longer seem to work at all

2. The Fan is on far more frequently than it used to be with Vista, and overall the PC seems to run far hotter.

Any advice/pointers for each of these issues. All responses welcomed.

Thanks

Thornton.

Hi

Have you installed Win7 upgrade on preinstalled Vista or you have made clean Win7 installation?
Have you tried to reinstall ?Value Added Package??

To reduce fan noise please open advanced power settings and Toshiba power settings. There you can find ?Cooling method? option. Change settings there to lower level.
I have done this on my notebooks and both of them runs very quiet.

Hola amigo?

A friend of mine has a Satellite P200 too but he never noticed something like that?
There?s no static sound or something like that?

What OS do you use? Did you changes something in sound settings? I mean speaker and internal mic settings.

I?ve got Realtek Sound Manger preinstalled on my notebook. There I can enable the option to eliminate the mic and speaker hissing.

Maybe you should check this.

Hello

Today I was playing my games, as usual until my laptop starting making very, very loud buzzing noises. I instantly turned off the laptop. Left if for a bit and turned back on. Again, extremely loud noises. I'm scared to turn it back on now. Im thinking it's the fan as that is where the noise is coming from but I can't be sure.

Any advice on what to do? Any one else had this problem?

Answer:My Satellite C855 is making very loud noise

On this virtual way we cannot say for sure what the problem is but I can imagine that cooling fan is responsible for this.
From the first moment when you switch your notebook ON cooling fan is active so I would like to know if you can hear this noise from the first second after start-up.

Is there some other kind of vibration?

Of course it is also interesting to know if your notebook has valid warranty or not. If yes I strongly recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help.
They can order and exchange cooling vent.

Hi there!

I helped my neighbour to find a new laptop, and the whole setup and startup.

We ordered a C670-11Q and it works really well, theres just one annoyance.
The disc makes some loud clicking noises, not like a dying or working disc. It's the same sound as when you turn of a disc, just much louder. I guess it's the "disc reading arm" that goes into it's safe position.

I don't know if this laptop has a shock sensor to do this? The laptop was sitting flat on the table, and there where NO vibrations while it's doing it. There are no clicks while under load, but they occur randomly while idling or normal surfing/writing.

I also checked power saving options and disabled them to turn of the disc, no help.
This also seemed weird, because the clicks often occur several times in a row. But it definitely does it more when running on battery.

I'm running the newest BIOS and drivers from the support area (as of yesterday).
The disc is set to performance mode, i didn't test battery saving - should i?

And no, the disc hasen't taken any beating. I was the first person to turn it on.

The drive is from Hitachi, i ran their analysis - no errors.

Any help is greatly appreciated :o)

One of my notebook?s HDD makes such noise too.

I?m not exactly sure why but I think also that this is the disks head which moves into save position.

However, I think that this is not really a malfunction since the notebook runs pretty well and I didn?t notice any problems with the HDD or the files? but I created a backup of my files? just to be safe ? you know?
I think you should backup the date just to be safe?

Once I have logged in this stops. Is this normal.?

Answer:ODD makes noise when starting Satellite P300-19P

In my opinion it?s nothing unusual. During powering up the drive?s laser lens calibrates and makes some noises.
Furthermore such sound can appear if an disk was inserted into the CD/DVD drive.

So you shouldn?t be worried?

Hello,

Recently my laptop cooling fan started running continously with a loud noise. When the screen is idle it stops for few sec and starts again. I have changed the power options to balanced in control panel but it didnt work. Even the BIOS is the latest one. Refering to discussion forums I have changed to 'selective start up' thru 'msconfig' but nothing worked.

It is 8 months old. The noise is very disturbing. Can anyone please help me in this regard?

Hi buddy,

I never heard about something like this?

Have you already tested it with battery optimized cooling method? Balanced power profile uses also maximum performance for cooling so you have to edit the power profile and choose battery optimized cooling for every power profile on battery and AC adapter. An information about all power plan options you can find here:

I notice that when i move the energy wire the sound was changing to lower or higher rate.

Could anyone suggest me something?

Disable the microphone volume in the speakers properties.

The right key doesn't make this sound. Is it normal?

Answer:Satellite U400-15h - touchpad key makes a click noise

Hi

It looks like a mechanical touchpad button issue.
I think in your case only a touchpad button replacement would be a real option ?

What do you think about this opinion?

I think the ASP help is needed and therefore you should contact the ASP in your country for a touchpad test?

But is this issue really so annoying? I mean the technician would replace this but you will have to send the notebook and should wait a time until this issue could be fixed.

My brand new toshiba laptop is constantly producing a strange buzzing/static noise which appears to be coming from the fan.

I am not sure if this is the case with all of these models but it is quite annoying and I am worried that something could be wrong with the laptop.

Please can anybody help me on this one?
What may be causing the strange noise?

As I said it appears to be coming from the fan but I am not 100% sure.

Answer:Satellite C50-A-1DV makes strange static/buzzing noise

Did you notice this buzzing/static noise while heavy fan rotation?

To me it?s very difficult to say if it?s a ?common? fan noise or unusual noise which could be related to cooling module problems.

At the other hand you are not 100% sure if this noise is coming from the fan? so I think we are groping in the dark?

From my point of few the notebook is new and if you are unsure if there is some hardware problem, you should ask a service engineer for and check.

Sorry mate but at this point i have no other "solution" for you :(

Hello, My name is Maria and I am from Moscow.

I have purchased this laptop (Toshiba Satelite L 670-15) on 16th of december 2010 and from the very beginning I had problems with it. Before I managed to install any programs, it said to me: " There isn't enough memory", I couldn't install important updates and software was working very slow. I took it to the service center RSS and by warranty they changed a harddrive there and reinstalled Windows.

Later, approximately in a month, my laptop began to get hot, very bad, like iron and to turn off. My friend cleaned and blew the laptop with a canned air. First three weeks it worked good, then the problem repeated. Before the end of my warranty period left not so many time and I took it to the service center again.

It?s nothing unusual that notebook?s cooling fans needs to be cleaned from time to time. I do that with my two different notebooks from different manufacturers.
I use my notebook at home, the other while traveling and both needs to be cleaned. I use a simple compressed air spray to get the dust removed.
This is good enough to keep the cooling modules clean.

Here is a nice and useful document from Toshiba knowledge base:

But if cleaning the cooling modules does not help, I would recommend changing the settings in power management of the Win 7.

Here try the setting: Max performance.

Hi,

When i surf on the net i like it to be quite, but these last 5 days it has started to sound.

Toshiba U400 works and it takes out to much "Air" from the side and just sound all the time, even if i open IE or MSN or anything, and before it just did sometime but now it does often.

Please help me because this is very annoying and it sounds to much, and i do not like it, why has this start to happend now and not before? and what can i do about it?

thnx.

Answer:Satellite U400 - loud noise coming from cooling modules

Hi

What you can do?
Well, first of all you have to ensure that your cooling modules holes are free of dust.
I recommend using the compressed air spray in order to remove the dust from cooling grilles and fans.
In most cases the dust prevents the air circulation which causes a higher temperature and therefore fans would rotate faster.

Secondly you could change the power saver settings to ?more battery like?.
If you are using Win XP then you should check the Toshiba Power Saver.
There you could set the CPU processing speed and cooling performance to a lower level

Answer:Satellite Pro L850 - very loud buzzing/drilling noise before crashing

Is this noise produced by cooling fan or HDD activity? Maybe both of them?

Of course it is not easy to say what is wrong there but I presume some background activity may be responsible for that.
Or have you noticed that some application that you use ends with system crash.

Hello everybody:

I have a Satellite A200-12x. My power supply makes a little noise. The noise is not very loud but it is audible only when it is plugged in, and some work is being actually done with the laptop.

As I say, is not a loud noise, it's a quiet "frying eggs" noise. Has anyone else noticed it? Should I get toshiba to change it for a new one?

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Manuel

Answer:Power supply of Satellite A200-12x makes some quiet noise

Hi there,

don?t worry, thats not a big deal. Since your AC must deliver many power to your machine (man, think about, you have a powerful A200 with really strong components -> CPU, VGA, RAM) and such a system needs a lot of power.

Due to this heavy power consumption, the capacitors and transistors in such AC-adapters are strong too.
You have to imagine that not only one capacitor is in there, no, there are over hundreds and some other components which have to regulate the power from the wall to your machine.

I have a Qosmio G30 and you wouldn?t believe what a noise its AC-adapter makes. It sounds like "Brrrrmmmmmmmmmmmm", like a little USV (a battery for desktop PC?s which prevents from data loss in a case of power failure..)

So, I would suggest you to accept it, since all AC?s of every new machine will make such noise.

You did not provide any details about your notebook model and the system which is installed on the notebook.

Its even not known to me how old the notebook is but according to this short message, it looks like there is some problem with the cooling system.

Probably the notebooks cooling fan doesn?t work properly and the unit cannot be cooled down as it should? this can lead to notebook damage due to higher internal temperature.

I own a Satellite A300-1M1 laptop

It reads some DVDs, on windows media player or VLC, but fails to read CDs and a lot of DVDs

The drive is recognized on Windows Vista. I have updated the drives and rebooted. Then deleted from devide manager and rebooted. The deleted from the registry the UpperFilters and LowerFilters and the rebooted again.

The problem persists is exactly ther same. I can read a DVD (movie DVD) but not a CD (with data). I can read both discs on a different laptop.
When I insert the DVD, the disc spins and in a few seconds it shows up in windows explorer and can be played with Windows Media Player or VLC, for example. When I insert a CD with data, the CD spins, there are noises of skidding, at different speeds. The mouse cursor briefly changes shhowing a disc under it, the orange light blinks, but after some 40 seconds or so only a message shows up "Please insert a readable disc". Needless to say, I have tried several different CDs. Only movie DVDs I manage read on the drive.

The drive is listed on Device Manager as:
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N

The Satellite A300-1M1 spcs are:
Intel CoreDuo P8400 2,26 GHz
4GB RAM
I use Windows Vista (as it came installed on this laptop)

What can I do to correct this problem?

Hi, thanks for reading.

Recently I've noticed that when my laptop is plugged into the power supply, the transformer makes a faint clicking noise, just loud enough to be heard over a movie running at full volume but not loud enough to be heard unless you're listening for it.
The clicking is sporadic and doesn't seem to link up with what's happening on the laptop.
I've been told that it could have been an overheating problem but I've only had the laptop for a couple of months and the longest I've charged it for at one time is about 8 hours.

There doesn't seem to be any adverse effect on the computer but it's got me a bit concerned.

Hi Everyone

I have a Toshiba Satellite P200 and there is a problem with the Display , it works and it does not work .

I have done some checks ,the backlight is on , and it works ok with a second monitor .

The question I really want to ask is , where is the switch or contact on the Lid or body of the Laptop that shuts down the screen when I close the Lid?

I have the Laptop stripped down and I can not see anywhere , where there is some sort of contact mechanical or magnetic between the Lid and Palm rest .

I thought that there me have been something where the Lid Latches close but can not see anything around there .

I know there must be something that puts the laptop into Hibernate when I close the Lid , but where is the sensor or whatever located .

cheers

spike

Answer:Satellite P200- where is the switch that makes display to switch off?

I think the sensor is part of the motherboard but cannot say exactly where it could be located.
But as far as I know the JP9 connector (40pin) is used to connect the display.

However, in my personal opinion its not a sensor issue?
If something is wrong with display, you might need to replace either, LCD panel, FL inverter or should check the connection from display to motherboard

Answer:pc makes loud noice, how to fix?

Please post your system specs so that we can give you some meaningful help.

System Info - See Your System Specs

Are you using your PC for gaming and if so, is it overclocked?

Have you opened things up to check for dust or loose hardware?

I'm loathe to make a snap diagnosis, but I'd be inclined to think your CPU heatsink is not so good and your CPU is overheating, meaning the loud noise could well be the cooling fan cutting in.

You need to be more explicit than your thread title for us to help you as there is more than one cooling fan and any number of reasons why the problem is occurring.

Hi there...I've got a t61 7663-w5t.Since recently there is a tickling noise everytime a program access files on the harddisk or so on.I really care about the harddrives health. Is there anything I can do to check the health? Thanks, regards,Robin

Answer:T61 Harddisk Noise

Hello  Robin, you can check your hdd with PCDoctor or simply use chdsk from windows. Some hdd vendors, like Hitachi, have got drive test tools, on their homepages. But, some noise will be normal, there is no drive, except SSDīs, that are totally silent, when accessing files.Seagateīs are more tickling then Hitachiīs. RegardsAndreas  Message Edited by Agotthelf on 10-04-2008 06:37 PM

Question: HardDisk Noise...

Hi! I've just got my SL500 today, strangely there is some harddisk noise (kkrrrrrr) whenever there is any disk activity. Not too loud, but still noticable in a not so quite room. Is it normal with these models? Any input is highly appreciated! Thanks in Advance!

Answer:HardDisk Noise...

Hello Usman, which os do you have installed? If itīs Vista, then Vista will do a lot of things, like prefetching, indexing an so on. This behavior is forced during installations of your programs.Let your machine run, for one or two nights alone, after installation of your individual progras. Then Vista will get ready and your hdd get more silent. An other possibility will be to get a silent harddrive, but mostly the noise is the same, effected by SL casing.Seek google: silent laptop drive. RegardsAndreas      Message Edited by Agotthelf on 09-19-2008 07:05 PM

Greetings all, and happy 4th of July!

I recently helped my mother buy and put together her first computer (EMachine), but after turning it on, it made a LOUD beep. The beep apparently is coming from the tower, because it did it again after turning off the speakers, and restarting. I know that some computers beep once during their POST checks to tell you everything is OK, but this beep is LOUD, and I'm hoping someone here can tell me a way to disable, or at least make it a little quieter. It scares everyone out of their socks, the first time they hear it boot I've done a Google search to try to figure it out myself, but all I could find out is that Emachines are indeed notorious for loud POST checks. No one actually suggests a fix for the problem. I don't remember much about the computer except that it's a new Emachine running XP Home. If additional tech specs are needed, I can find out. Thanks.

Answer:Emachine makes loud beep!

I know exactly what you mean... and that beep irritates the bejebus out of me so I always unhook the case speaker from the motherboard or dont install it in the first place unless I have ( rare ) hardware or OS issue then I plug it back in.

as far as I know their is no way other than unplugging the case speaker from the mobo to stop the beep.... by opening the case on a new PC you may well invalidate any warranty tho.

I have a fairly new M-Audio M-Track that works as expected. EXCEPT...when going to sleep or restart, a very loud and annoying pop sounds in the speaker. This also happens when it awakens.

I've tried different drivers, including none but the noise continues.

Any ideas, besides getting a new sound card?

Answer:M-Audio makes loud pop when shutting down

I have a recording studio (Sonar), but use Roland Studio-Capture.

The M-Track is a bus powered unit (gets its power from the USB port) and popping is probably caused by power being applied from the USB port. I don't know how you can stop that. Post on the www.gearslutz.com forum and see if someone familiar with the M-Track can help you.

I specifically bought the Toshiba Satellite (my fourth in a row) to take advantage of the lovely harmon/kardon speakers.

I find that the volume is going loud and soft all the time, specifically going softer when there appears to be something in the music (or whatever Im listening to) that would normally go louder. It's almost as if it is trying to 'normalise' the volume. Whatever is happening, it sounds terrible.

I've done a quick search on thee forums and I can't see a solution. I have seen on the greater internets (simply google Toshiba loud soft" and it pops up) someone else with the same problem.

I've messed around with the sound for hours at a time and had absolutely no luck.

I'm at my wits end. Can some please help me?

Have you discovered "Smart Audio" in your control panel? - I no nothing about what it does but there are lots of icons and sliders to play with!
I also know that my "Windows Update" has nvidia high definition audio driver -August 09 sitting there as an optional update

It was all fine a couple of months ago, but then it suddenly became slower than before. It worked ok at first, but then the situation worsened. Booting up took longer and longer and now it is impossible to do so. The fan also increased in noise and it seems that the conmputer is struggling to startup anything. attempts to fix it via windows recovery failed, as it shutdown halfway through the recovery. Is this caused by some sort of virus? Does it have to do with my computer itself?  I would like to know more about it and resolutions I can take to fix this problem. Thank you and have a nice day

I just installed Vista Ultimate 32bit on my computer. Its a dual core 2.4 with 4 gigs of ram and a 320 gig hard drive. My hard drive is always running loud like tons of programs are running. I would like Vista a lot more if only my hard drive would be quiet for once. How do I get it to run like normal?

Answer:Vista makes my hard drive loud

Hi jlskiut83 and welcome to the forum

This is perfectly normal behaviour on a fresh installation of Vista. It is merely the indexing service collecting its data. For more details on this service, see the following Tutorial: Index - Enable or Disable

i have an ibm laptop and during windows start up, it makes that "beep" like it just POSTed but louder and doesn't stop. i picked up the laptop while it was screaming to turn it off, and as i moved it, it changed pitch. this first happined when i was loading quake 2 on it, quake 2 had just finished loading and i was in the process of trying to play it. to get it to stop i just took out the battery. the sound sounded like it came out of the speakers, but changed when you push on a certin paRT of the laptop. how do i get to stop, is my laptop toast? i can get more info if u need it.

Answer:ibm laptop makes a very loud constant beep

What is the model and the model number called a type number on the bottom... the model will be something like 600X or T-23. But the type number will be a seven digit one like 2373-8SU.
The problem could be as simple as a stuck key, or as complex as a failed CPU Fan, failed memory, failed hard drive, or a motherboard gone bad.
If it is a repeated beep beep beep etc... with a pause then repeated beeps, count the beeps and tell us. That will usualy be a memory error or a cpu fan or a hard drive... depending on the model and the age.

Hi, I bought a  thinkpad T430 two years ago. The noise from harddisk is growing. It was OK before, but now,  all the people in my office can hear it!!! At the begining, I thought it was the fan rotating too fast. But when I check it carefully, I found the noise comes from the harddisk. I cannot bear it...... Any solutions? Latest drivers are installed, BIOS, dirver...... Regards,Chao

Answer:T430 win10 HARDDISK NOISE

Welcome to the forum.

Could you decribe this noise, e.g. a constant high pitch whine, buzzing, hum, sharp clicking, etc.

This noise could be a sign of impending HDD failure. Have you run a diagnostic on the drive? Lenovo Solution Centre -> Check Up -> Hardware Scan.

Hi, zackh123

I would recommend checking the logs in Event Viewer, which can be found under Control Panel ? Administrative Tools. Once in Event Viewer, open the folder Windows Logs and check out the System logs. Try going back to the last time this occurred and check for any errors or warnings that may lead to the system freezing like this.

Also, what is your operating system? And from where does the buzzing sound seem to come from?

Thanks in advance,Adam

Hi, There is a strange, very loud intermittent buzzing/screeching noise from the fan of  HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15-n024nr Notebook PC (Model #:F4G16UA). A few days ago the fan started running very loudly. Now suddenly the fan is making a loud noise as it turns on, then it stops (& its silent), then again the noise of fan running and suddenly the loud screeching noise comes from the fan. When i put my hand on the bottm of the laptop on the left side, i can feel the vibrations during those loud buzzing/screeching noises. I ran the system diagnostics quick test and everything came out ok. I also did the components test. All components tested ok except 2 USB ports (which had stopped working earlier, so it was not a big surprise). Can someone help me fix this isue. This laptop is more than 3 years old, so there is definitely no warranty on it. Hope i can understand what is causing this strange noise from the fan. Thanks in advnce.

As it says in the question, my touchpad makes a really loud clicking noise when I push down on the left side. It feels loose, so I have to push down and it clicks loudly, then I have to push further for it to actually select whatever it is I want to select. Hey guys we recently had power outage and when I went to turn on my computer it made this loud whirring sound 5 minutes after I started it up. Now it does it whenever I turn it on.

So I shut down the PC and I'm checking around on what to do.

Oh and if it is important I don't really turn off my PC unless I have to install some software or drivers or something. I hope that isn't the cause.

I got the computer about 3 or 4 months ago. I don't know exactly what brand it is but I know that the processor is an Intel core duo(the guy who gave it to me told me it was a Quad core) There are no labels on this computer. It has a clear window with blue lights inside it. I know that it is water cooled and has a Geoforce Gt 8500. I was told to replace the coolant inside the PC once every year but I haven't had it for that long so I don't think it is that. I'm sorry I can't exactly identify what type of computer it is.

To sum it up, after power outage computer makes loud whirring sounds when being turned on and I would really like to know what is going on.

Here I took a few pictures of it plus I checked my bios to get more info.

Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz
Intel EM64T capable

Vista 64bit

Also the front mounted audio input wires are unplugged for whatever reason. Anyone know where/how I can plug these in?

Hey So here's the problem. For a few weeks now, the PC that my sister uses has been making a strange noise. It has only been making it for 3-5 seconds or so after being first turned on, it's intermittent, and I've not gotten around to trying to work out what the problem was until now.

The PC has a few CCFLs in it, and I figured it was perhaps a faulty inverter. However, that is not the cause of the problem. I've also figured out that it's not any of the case fans, or the PSU (though my only way of testing if it were the PSU or not, was to power up the case fans & CCFLs without the rest of the system, so perhaps the problem is only caused with a larger power drain...furthermore, as the problem is intermittent, it may simply not be occurring now that I test the PSU on its own).

I think it can only be something on the motherboard (besides my concerns about it still perhaps being the PSU...), the PC speaker (though I fail to see why, and it really doesn't sound like it's coming from a speaker...), the graphics card, or the graphics card cooler (which I can't power without the card being on, so it's a bit hard to check..).

Now, the last time I turned it on the whine failed to stop, I had to power down the PC. That's really what prompted me to get on it and try to figure out what it is. But, I'm at a loss.

Actually, there is one thing, one little clue, that again points me to the PSU....Once, when I happened to be the ... Read more

Hi everybody, I would like some help!

I recently bought a new fan to help with cooling as the summer approaches. My new fan replaces my old chassis fan but is plugged in slightly differently as it is plugged into the 3 pin mother board connector (the old one was plugged into the molex and is now positioned as an intake fan at the front).

My problem is that since I've installed the new fan my computer is actually louder than before, Everest tells me that the revs for the new fan are 5114 rpm as I type this so it's clearly working too hard. I think it's working too hard because my processor fan is only idling by comparison at 1705 rpm. Which temperature does the chassis fan use to control it's speed and why has my CPU fan suddenly become lazy since I installed the new fan? Is there anything I can do to make the CPU fan work harder and take some of the burden off of the chassis fan?

Many thanks for any help!

I've had my Z50-70 for several months, with no real problems, but there's one annoyance.  A few months ago, the left touchpad button started making a loud clicking noise.  The right button is very quiet, but the left one makes a distinct clicking sound.  It works fine, but I'd really like to get it back to how quiet it was when I first got this.  Any ideas? Thanks,Harry

I have had laptop approx 17 months with no issues but last week noticed what I think was the fan making considerable noise - as if the bearings have gone or the fan has been damaged and is now clipping something? A bit like a car - I know the noise was not therebefore and this worries me.

This noise is intermittent, more often at start-up and far less frequent when laptop is in power saving mode (which makes me confident it is the fan??).

Is this a common fault? Should I be too concerned -i .e. can ignoring it lead to something more serious? And how do I resolve?

The fan appears completely unobstructed and the vents are clear as far as I can tell but I have not taken the laptop apart. If it is the bearings, one would suspect this is a known problem??

Thanks,
Mathew

Answer:Equium P200-1ED - Fan making considerable noise

Hello

I think it?s not easy so say what the reason is for this but in my opinion something is blocking the fan.

In your case I would try to clean the notebook using compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators. You can buy it from a local computer store and it?s easy to use because therefore you must not disassemble the notebook.
It?s worth a try! ;)

I doubt that this is a common fault. In the forum I can?t find may threads about this.

I got a dell dimension c521 and I notice at random times it has a really loud fan noise. Sounds like an airplane is about to take off or something? It usually happens if im playen video games and what not. I was wondering if this a bad thing or if its normal, and if theres anything I can do to prevent it from getting so loud? Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Answer:Really loud fan noise?

The fan runs at full to extract the heat when playing. About the only thing that you can do is to open it up and clean out any dust that you can see.

Question: A Very Loud Noise

I was working in the computer area one night. Of four computers, I was using two, one had been shut down for the night, and the last had been left on, but was unused.Suddenly the room was filled with a very loud noise. We are talking quite loud, almost like a fire alarm - uncomfortably loud to the ears. My first thought was an alarm on the UPS. I checked it, and it was fine. Then I thought maybe a fan bearing gone bad on one of the computers. I shut down the one not being used. Nothing. So then in spite of losing work, I felt it urgent enough to immediately shut down the two computers I was using. Nothing. So my next thought was fans in the room. Shut them down - nothing. Then I thought maybe the lights. Nothing. So my final thing was to unplug the computer that was already shut off - Bingo! What a surprise. I wasn't sure if the noise was from the computer or from the surge protector it was plugged into, so I ran an extension cord across the room. It ran fine about 3 days and then the noise came again, not quite as loud this time, but still loud.So I am thinking power supply or motherboard. The frequency and texture of the sound is the same as the squeal you get from the computer when you disconnect the power and the electricity drains from the system, except that that sound is mildly soft, but it gives you an idea of the nature of the sound. So I'm thinking maybe the motherboard is alarming me about something, but why so loud? And why continuous and won't go of... Read more

Question: Fan Noise too loud

Hello. Any suggestions on how I can easily cut down on my fan noise? It sounds like there is a lawn mower in here. Please tell me I can just buy a new fan for my processor... or maybe it's the PSU that's so loud. Thanks!

Answer:Fan Noise too loud

Google SpeedFan.

It allows you to vary the speed of your internal fans. Mess around with it til you get a stable, low temperature and desired noise output.

Or, you could just buy new fans.

Is it a beeping sound? If so, can you count the beeps and does the sound repeat itself or is it just now and then.

Hi,

I recently upgraded the ram in my pc from 1.5gb to 2.5gb as it seemed to be getting pretty slow. I was expecting a pretty big jump in performance but it doesn't seem to have happened.

The pc can sometimes be faster than it was and sometimes it really drags. There is also an intermittent loud noise which i believe is coming from the fan and when this happens the pc is slow.

I took out the fan and cleaned all the dust from it but this noise still starts every couple of minutes and the pc becomes slow.

Any ideas?

Answer:Loud Noise from PC. Don't think it is the HDD

Two things to consider...
The amount of memory doesn't have much to do with speed unless some process can specifically use that extra memory. You can to more things well, but not necessarily more rapidly.

You system will utilize all memory at the speed of the slowest module. If you have some memory that is value ram or other inexpensive ram, the timings could be significantly different than the best brands and models.

Your system only uses what memory it needs, not what you want it to use. As long as the RAM meets the requirements of the motherboard, it will not protest.

If you want some programs to run at optimum performance levels, all memory must be identical. It is wise to buy matched sets of RAM from the same manufacturer at the same time to get the ultimate performance. Top memory is already sold in matched sets in the same plastic wrap. Otherwise, you have to look at the timings and other information posted on the package or the label.
