Blue Screen on Satellite P100 - need to recover data

Question: Blue Screen on Satellite P100 - need to recover data

On switching on my laptop yesterday I was faced with a blue screen error message which even after running chkdisk keeps on appearing, even when rebooting in safe mode.

The problem is I only have Toshiba recovery disks (not an XP disk - XP was pre-installed on the laptop) and they say on them using the recovery disk wipes the computer and I need to recover data on the hard drive before reformatting.

I've taken the laptop to the local repair centre and they say they have to reformat and dont do data recovery.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Preferred Solution: Blue Screen on Satellite P100 - need to recover data

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Blue Screen on Satellite P100 - need to recover data

In my opinion there are two solutions. Either try to obtain WXP installations CD and see if you can repair it using WXP repair option or use delivered recovery media and make a clean OS installation. After doing this you will have ?factory setting? again and everything will be OK again.

I have a Satellite P100-194 since 28.08.06 and i am getting this blue screen telling me that the nv4_disp (i think this is the nvidia graphic driver) is in a infinite loop.

Error Message:

(Translation to english:

"The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.

Please check with your hardware vendor for any driver updates.

Then it said something about performing a physical memory dump and I had to reboot.
Sometimes the monitor just turns off (without blue screen) and i have to turn off again. Or the display shows many vertical stripes when booting. when windows window should come it gets black. I got this error 5-6 times since i bought it.
Could this be a damage on the geforce 7900 gs card or maybe is the RAM defective or do i need new chipset drivers...???

The drivers are the latest ones (from toshiba).

The technical support told me to format the pc.
The notebook is new and was very expensive, so i find it very strange that i need to update anything to get it to work correctly..?!?

Recently I left my 2 younger brothers playing NFS Carbon on my satellite P100-347, preinstalled with media centre 2005 edition, and now it fails to startup.

During the startup process eventually a blue screen is displayed for about a second and then it shutsdown (I manged to make out the words "unable to boot volume" from the blue screen).

I tried booting with an XP media centre DVD but it only gives me an option of reinstalling the OS with a price of losing all my very important data. Normally I would have recovered the system but I don't want to lose my data.

Is there anything i can do other than taking it to a technician?

Answer:Satellite P100-347: Blue screen appears on start up - unable to boot volume

Well, mostly the BSOD appears due to a hardware problem or serious software issue.
In your case the software problem is possible?

Unfortunately, I think the new OS installation is the best way to get the notebook running correctly.
Now you want to know how to save the data and files? well, I think you should remove the HDD from notebook and should try to connect the 2.5? HDD via external USB controller to another computer. Then you could save the files on the other HDD?

I think, now you know that the regular backups are important and necessary!!!!

Are you able to boot from other bootable disks like Win XP, Vista or Linux disk?

Can you power up the notebook or is it not possible even to access the BIOS settings?

sorry for my englich !!!!

Answer:Satellite Pro P100: How to recover OS after HDD replacing

Hi Phillipe,

Your recovery CDs will work on whatever hard drive you install in your notebook. The only factors affecting your choice of hard drive are :-

1. BIOS compatibility (should not be a problem with the P100 model)
This affected mainly older models of notebook where the BIOS could not recognise larger disks.

2. Form factor
You will need to ensure that the drive that you choose has the same physical dimensions as your
existing drive.

3. Rotation speed
Faster hard drives improve access times so check out 5400 and 7200 rpm drives. (there may be an issue
with heat generation so 5400 rpm is probably better than 7200)

The is no problem with Windows licencing since the licence applies to the operating system itself and not to the hard drive on which it is installed.

I have had my laptop 6 months now.
Now a blue screen comes and says - Data Inpage Kernel Error.

I reset back to factory settings but it is still happening. Is the hard drive knackered?
If so is it covered by the warranty?
If not which hard drive do i need and where can i get it from.

Many Thanks for your help.

Answer:Blue screen - Data Inpage Kernel Error on Satellite Pro L

> I reset back to factory settings but it is still happening. Is the hard drive knackered?
Maybe HDD, but memory could be also affected? So memory modules should be checked as well.
> If so is it covered by the warranty?
If the warranty is valid and if the BSOD is related to the hardware, then the warranty should cover the fix.

> If not which hard drive do i need and where can i get it from.
Don?t know what notebook you have, but newer notebook generation supports SATA HDD

This problem started month ago.
Laptop sometimes shows "blue screen" for unknown reason, and constantly does it if there is some modern graphical game executing.
After that I always note, that bios' settings were reset to defaults

what do I have to do?

Answer:Satellite M100-150 gets "blue screen" and resets bios' data

Ok, sounds like some kind of an serious issue. Could be a hardware problem, but thats just an guess of your situation.

Firstly you should perform a BIOS update on your machine to make sure the BIOS rom is OK.

Then, if the problem persists, I would contact an authorized service partner, since the problem seems then more hardware related.

If thats the case, then visit the following link to find the nearest ASP in your country. Send your machine there for an hardware checkup:

I have a Toshiba Satellite P100 laptop.

According to the User Manual it says:
You cannot partially delete any data written to a CD-RW

I thought the whole idea of using a CD-RW was so you could delete whatever you wanted to and use that part of the disc again and again.

Can someone explain?

Answer:Satellite P100 - Cannot delete the data from CD-RW disks

I didn?t find this info in user manual? and if you have burned some data on the CD-RW disks then it should be possible to format such CD-RW using an 3rd party tool like Nero Burning ROM for example.

I did it many times using Nero and was always successful

I have some problems with my laptop and i want to know that do i have to make a backup my files before i put the recovery cd for the vista or i can put it like this?
My installed progrms are going to be ok without backup or im going to lose them?

Answer:Re: Satellite P100: Do I need backup the data using Recovery CD for Vista

The usage of the Toshiba Vista Recovery CD sets the notebook back to the factory settings. This means that you will get the same state like at the beginning.

The recovery CD formats the whole HDD and installs the Toshiba image which contains the Win OS Vista, Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.

If you have installed any important data and files on the HDD then I would recommend running a backup before you will start the installation from the Recovery CD.

The data transfer through my USB ports to and from remote devices seems very slow. I have vista installed and have tried updating to the latest drivers from Intel for the 82801G controller, v8.2.0.1008 however this does not seem to improve matters.

I notice in the list only one of the controllers is listed as USB 2, I will try each one and see if any are faster, once the current 1/2 hour transfer finishes. Does anyone know if only 1 port is USB 2 or if there is any way to speed them all up?

Also in general file transfer in vista is painfully slow I've tried various solutions but none have offered much improvement. It is disappointing performance and I am tempted to install XP to improve the performance; however that does seem like a backwards step and would be very inconvenient. Does anyone know if any improvements are in the pipeline?

iI have satelite p100-196 and i saw that this model have blue light under speakers but my don't hav this lights
mayby someone have this problem or know how turnon this or sth else ?

Answer:Satellite P100-196 doesn't have the blue light under speakers

I read a post here a week or two ago where the same question was asked, and an answer was supplied stating that the blue lights under the speakers where only issued on Satellite notebooks with the Nvidia graphics card. I can't verify if this is true; all I can say is that I own a P100-188 with a Nvidia GeForce GO 7600 and that mine has the lights.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge can verify the blue light versions?

Also there seems to be no way of turning the lights on or off, other than opening the unit up and physically disconnecting them.

I own a Satellite Pro P-100-438 (PSPAHE-001001GR). Yesterday I tried to run a game and soon after that it froze, showed strange blue-ish rectangles, and then a bluescreen followed by a reset.

Then the screen was full of blue shaded boxes in kind of a grid pattern as a layer over everything shown. Even the splash screen "Toshiba - in touch with tomorrow" had that box-grid layer.
As soon as Vistas login screen should show up, there was another bluescreen: 0x00000050 Page Fault In Non-Paged Area.

Now I can only boot the computer in safe mode.

I tried to restore the last working windows configuration but that didn't help. I tried to remove the display drivers as well and fiddled with the startup setting under msconfig and at one point I was actually able to get Vista running like normal without the blue boxes but after a while I got another bluescreen and since then they stayed.

Occasionally there is another screenshot as well: 0x00000116. nvlddmkm.sys - Address 8C8149A0 base at 8C808000, DateStamp 4a9cdd24

And it says something about "Attempt to reset display driver and recover from timeout failed." as well.

See these screenshots:

Any hints or suggestions?

Best Regards

Answer:Blue Boxes and Bluescreens when powering up Satellite Pro P100-438

Hi again,

last night I checked if the problem could be related to overheating. But now I think this is not the problem. I removed a little bit of dust, but there was not really a lot. The crashes still occur.

Regarding the graphical glitches: It is kind of a grid of blue boxes. But it is not a perfect grid. Only a grid pattern all over the screen. I have a photo that I will upload tomorrow. When I move windows below the grid it stays in place. Much like it was somehow in the display's surface.

Could it maybe be that the graphics card is broken? It is not the RAM. I removed one at a time, and it is not related to it.

Can I somehow check wether it is the graphics card? It is a Geforce Go 7900 GS.

The laptop is a Satellite Pro P100-438 (PSPAHE-001001GR).

If I bought a replacement graphics card, could I maybe buy a better one in? They must be much cheaper than three years ago by now. Or would that mean too much power consumption and to much excess heat?

Which cards would work?

Best regards

I have read several topics in the forum about the P100 Harman/Kardon Speaker Blue LEDs/lights. None have expressed a final answer about how to switch off the LEDs.

I was wondering if any new update on this issue has occured. The last forum post about it was in February. Is it possible to switch off these annoying lights in the newer Satellite models? I would be willing to disconnect the leads if its an easy job.

My laptop is the Satellite P100-347 (SPA6E)

I get a disk read error when I try to boot my Sat Pro M30 running XP Pro, just after the In Touch with Toshiba screen.

Using the Revovery DVD that came with the computer when purchased and entering advanced mode I'm trying to use check local Image File. It doesn't seem to find any Image file. Is it possible to recover or rebuild image file?

There are some data I would like to recover from the HD so I'm trying to avoid reinstalling the system until I've recovered the files.

Have tried to read from the HD using a cabinette and a new NP running Vista but it didn't work. Is there a general problem reading a XP HD from VISTA?

Any suggestions how to recover the data would be very much appreciated!

Answer:Satellite Pro M30 - how to recover the data?

cabinette ? Do you mean "USB Hard Disk Caddy" ?

To recover your data, you can connect the HDD using a USB Adapter to another PC running XP or Vista. The drive should show up as a Drive letter (such as E: Drive), and you will be able to copy the files.

When you say "but it didn't work", what was the problem exactly?

A few months ago I noticed a thin pink vertical stripe had appeared near the left hand side of my screen that bisects the entire screen and does not disappear whatever else is on the screen. Well I kind of let it slide and now there are hundreds of vertical coloured vertical lines all across the screen. The IT help guy at work states that it is because my toshiba drivers need updating. I have visited their website and tried to download some, but they appear to make no difference or else don't work.

Is this a recognised problem? What causes it? Could it be some physical damage?

Answer:Screen problems with Satellite P100-429

If you see the problem *before* Windows starts (for example in the BIOS or at the Toshiba splash screen), then its not a driver problem.

Sounds like it needs a new LCD if the lines are single pixel in size.

Two things..........

1. Is it normal for the bottom of the laptop to get extremely hot and almost feel like it is burning?

2. The other day we turned my computer on, it loaded but with a blank screen. For the whole day it did this. I opened the computer and took apart half of it, turned it on and nothing still.
The next day I turn the computer on and the screen is on as if nothing happened.

Any suggestions?

1. No this is abnormal.

2. If its still under warranty I'd get your laptop to your place of purchase quick smart. You dont have much time. Please whatever you do, just take it back NOW!

This is an early warning for your laptop to tell you its sick. Heat is a major issue with these P100's. I have a feeling you have damaged your video card already.

Good luck with it. I'd take it back for warranty before you have a very expensive and hard heating pillow.

Did you try this trick?

-> remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor from the notebook
-> wait about ~ 30min ? 1h
-> connect both parts again and try to power up the unit

If this will not help then this would mean that an serious hardware problem causes this issue and you will have to contact an Toshiba ASP technician to find out what?s wrogn exactly.

Hi there,

I have the above laptop for about two years running Windows XP. Recently and with increasing frequency the screen goes blank. It remains backlit and the laptop still runs, with working sound.

I have eliminated overheating which I thought was the cause initally. It had been responding to being turned off and left for a while. But now it is doing it after being on for around 30 mins. Doesn't appear to be related to any particular process that I can identify. No new programmes installed. Run all my virus protection and it seems clear there.

Any ideas?

> ALWAYS goes black as soon as the gpu ramps up for example playing a video or benchmarking the graphics card.
This would mean the graphic card is malfunctioning?

Theoretically it could be an overheating issue too. Higher temps can also cause a black screen. You should try everything that is possible so clean your notebook using compressed air spray to blow out the dust from cooling ventilators.

If it doesn?t help it seems to be a serious hardware malfunction but one point would be interesting: Have you noticed the same with preinstalled OS (Vista) from Toshiba?

I have just purchased a Satellite P100-427 with a Trubrite screen. However I find that the screen is grainy, especially when you look at a white background. I have seen the same video card on one non-Toshiba laptop with the same spec and it looks ultra sharp - no grain at all.

Do I need to do something to my computer or do I have a faulty screen.

I believe you are the first one with this notice about the screen. It will be interesting to see how it looks like because on this way it is not easy to say anything precise about it.

I can only say that you can try to update the BIOS with latest version. Long time ago I have found some similar comments and the solution is ? BIOS update.

If you decide to do this please read carefully offered BIOS update document.

Hi, first I'd like to say that I think this is a recurring Toshiba problem, as I have a friend who had exactly the same thing happen to his Toshiba PC. Here's how it happens:

While working on the laptop/PC, suddenly the screen will freeze, although everything is still happening and at first if I wobbled the screen a bit it would start working again. Sometimes it was necessary to apply pressure in the centre of the screen for it to snap back. Now it has gotten so bad that I have to constantly apply pressure on the top-left corner of the screen for it to continue operating (exactly the same on my friend's PC).

I feel that soon even that won't work. If I leave the screen when it freezes, it slowly hazes over and ends up grey with a few coloured vertical lines. Again it snaps back immediately when I apply pressure on the top left corner of the screen (I have to keep pressing otherwise it freezes again). Does anyone know what is causing this common Toshiba malfunction, and how to fix it?

I would appreciate answers before my laptop stops working completely! '~'

Answer:Satellite P100-202 - Screen will freeze

Hi trrttrry,

That?s really strange issue but I never read about this issue on Satellite P100 here in forum so I think that?s an individual case.

Regarding your description it could be loose cable connection or display malfunction itself. Do you have tested an external monitor?

In my opinion you should ask a notebook technician for help. They can check the cable connection and order a new one if it?s really necessary.

Hello everyone! I'm posting about a problem with my Toshiba P100-202's screen. I recently posted in the thread "Satellite P100-202: screen will freeze" and my current problem is actually quite similar to what is explained in the thread "Satellite P100-119: display doesn't work anymore". Here's my story, hoping that someone will be able to help me avoid having to send the computer to a technician:
After my previous problem I decided to get my screen replaced. Everything seemed fine, apart from on occaisonal instances, especially when I was using the program "Internet Explorer", in which the screen would sort of restart, ie. everything went black for a few seconds (music etc. however would continue) and then (boom) everything would reappear, sometimes in ultra-zoom for a second or two. The computer (operating system=Windows 7) would report "problem with NVIDIA graphics driver", and then operations would continue normally. This happened several times, although not frequently, and I wasn't too worried about it. And then, a few days ago, I was using the newest release candidate of Internet Explorer 9, and the screen blacked out, and my music continued, and I thought "OK, no problem", and then a few seconds passed, and then the music stopped (and I was thinking "uh-oh"), and then... the blue screen of death.
OK, no panic, restart, but of course there's no welcome note, no nothing, just a blank screen which with the backl... Read more

Answer:Satellite P100-202: problems with screen again

Unfortunately I cannot offer some final solution or diagnostic but I think you should test functionality with original recovery image (recovery DVD) you got with your notebook.

Install OS using this disc and test functionality. If the same happen again and again there must be some hardware problem.
If you must bring notebook to the service ask at first how much the repair will cost. Maybe it will be too expensive and you can buy new notebook instead of paying a lot of money to repair this old notebook model.

My P100-429 has and is developing vertical lines (currently 6 to 7 depending on screen colour) of different colours. These lines are dotted and appear to travel from top to bottom. The machine is desk based so does not have rough service. Any ideas please?

Answer:Satellite P100-429 Lines on screen

Do these lines appear on the external monitor?
Did you check this?

If not, connect the external display to the notebook and check if the same issue is visible on the second monitor.
If yes, then your issue could be related to a graphic chips malfunction.

This would a worst case because in most cases the whole motherboard must be replaced. :(

Hello all

Answer:Satellite L300-110 - How to recover without loosing data on the HDD?

A recovery installation from the recovery disk without loosing data on the HDD isn?t possible. If you use the Toshiba recovery disk the whole HDD will be formatted so you must backup the data first.

The only way I know is to use the HDD recovery function in the advanced boot menu. The HDD recovery function formats only the first partition of the notebook and all data that you have stored on the second partition are available after recovery.

Answer:Re: Satellite A500 - How to recover data from sandisk

I assume you have copied the single applications which were placed in C:\Programs Files folder to the SD card. Is it right?

Well, usually it?s not possible to copy these programs again and then to start it?
The point is that this will not work because such programs should be installed firstly on the HDD.

You can copy just some ?stand alone? files like movies, pictures, mp3 file, data files? but you can not copy (copy and past) the software?

Hello there,

my laptop fell down and its screen was broken.
So I bought a new screen from ebay.
The new screen arrived and when I changed it was on sleep mode and worked well, but when I restarted it, the screen didn?t show anything and only the blacklit light was working...

Does anyone know why?
Is it a bios problem?
What should i do?

My laptop is a p100-386
My old screen was LP171WX2 A4K7
My new one is LP171WP4 TLB5

Answer:Satellite P100-386 - screen does not work after replacement

> The new screen arrived and when I changed it was on sleep mode and worked well,

What does this mean exactly? Did you replaced the screen while the notebook was in ?Sleep Mode????

If only the internal screen would be affected then you should be able to see something (Toshiba splash screen, BIOS) on the external monitor?
Can you connect the external (2nd) monitor to the notebook in order to check this???

My 2 year old Toshiba Satellite P100 suddenly developed a 4 cm wide vertical white band on the screen (17 in) one morning, covering the taskbar as well.
A few days later, and I had other vertical bands, one black, one multicolored, which sometimes change colour.

The laptop is now virtually unusable.

See pic at

I have connected up the VGA output to another monitor and there are no bands.
I have also disconnected and reconnected the video cable below the left hand hinge and no difference.

If this requires a new screen it would probably be cheaper to buy a new laptop.
But is there any possibility that this is just a cable or contact problem?
Or is this how an inverter fails?

Any advice appreciated.

Answer:Satellite P100-160 vertical bands on screen

>I have connected up the VGA output to another monitor and there are no bands.
This would mean that your graphic card is OK but the internal notebook?s display malfunctions.
That?s my opinion.

You are right?. The screen replacement is not cheap? the screen and the motherboard are the most expensive notebook parts and a new screen would cost about 300Euros.

If your warranty is valid then the replacement should be done for free?. But if it?s not valid then you will have to pay for that?.

So it would be your own decision what to do? and the decision is not easy

My Satellite P100-115 is just 2,5 years old but yesterday a thin vertical line appeared on the screen.
I already have checked this issue by connecting a external monitor.

The line does not appear on the external display.
Could You tell me what could get wrong? I always took care of the notebook so it couldnt be a couse of bad using.

Answer:Satellite P100-115 - vertical lines on appear on screen

Hello Lukas

You have done good thing and tested it with external monitor. This is evidence that display is defective and must be exchanged. It has nothing with bad using. Such thing simply happens.

Sorry buddy but there are two solutions, either exchange the display or use it with external monitor. :(

Hello Folks wonder if you can help me.....actually wonder if I'm in the right forum.... I think it's a monitor problem not a software issue...
As of late I have vertical lines appearing on my screen... very thin, and in pretty colors....light blue, mint green, and purple.

I get about every 2 weeks or so a new one... Any Idea if thats a software or hardware problem... some computer kid told me that it has to do with the labtop-screen conection? if someone just can tell me to download a driver and it's all gonne be ok. would make me a very happy man......

Also, I've read in this forum that the new bios 4.30 has unresolved fan issues. Should I wait with downloading?

Answer:Satellite Pro P100: Screen lines on Display

To exclude that your problem is hardware related, try to reinstall display drivers.
I don't know if the new BIOS version for your notebook has some unresolved fan issues, but if you're not sure, wether to install the the update or not, just leave it.

But as I read your post so far, I think the computer kid is right, and there might be someting wrong with the connection to the display. Or it could be another display error or graphic card issue.

If updating the display drivers doesn't bring any improvements, I suggest you should contact local ASP, as this seems to be hardware problem.

Computer seems to be on, but the laptop screen stays blank.

Ok so right now the power light is on and HD and the back fan is not on, and when I press the power button, the HD and the back fan comes on and then the power light just flashes, but nothing is on the screen, and the the keyboard lights (capslock/numlock etc) do not flash like they would on a boot up. That leads me to assume that the laptop is hibernating or something, but it should come out of hibernation (if it was) on a press on the power button, but nothing happens when I do that.

also connected an external monitor to the back of the laptop, got nothing on the screen as well.

any ideas?

Answer:Satellite Pro P100 - Screen stays blank

Hm, it could be a mainboard issue or something else. I doubt that it?s a problem of the internal display because tested an external display and there you can notice the same issue.

What you can do is this following workaround: Remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor and then wait one hour. Connect the AC/DC adaptor and battery again. Now you can try to start the notebook again.

If it doesn?t work I would ask a notebook technician from an authorized service provider. Maybe it?s a hardware malfunction and the ASP can test your notebook.

Since few days i have a problem with my Satellite P100-473 (with Vista Home recently installed + teamspeak only) after installing Nero last version (maybe a detail)
and don't know how, suddenly the screen gone black.
So I restart it and always black but the laptop start correctly, the screen is on (light top/bottom).
I'm trying to switch the display on an external LCD (both DVI and VGA) no signal.
I had remove the battery few minutes too.

After much irritation I abandonned it one week, I'm retrying yesterday and after two tries display come back with an error message (like a debug message) I forgot to note it due to excitement ... ten minutes later same problem again :'( .
Yesterday before the display restart, I had wait the boot completly > type my password > sound > wait a moment > and type Esc key / Enter key randomly.

Can you please help me to find the source of this problem, and perharps the solution to resolve it?

Thanks a lot for your future help, I hope you understand my pathetic English
Best Regards

Answer:Satellite P100-473 - suddenly the screen goes black

Wait. You said that you are using external LCD and that an external LCD was connected to this notebook.
Do you use an Samsung external monitor and maybe did you install MagicTune software on your notebook?
Please check this.

As far as I know Samsung MagicTune software may permanently disable the built-in LCD display screen of Toshiba computers. Why?
Because the MagicTune software is designed for use with desktop computers that do not have a built-in LCD display.
If your built-in LCD display has been disabled by the MagicTune software, you need to make an arrangement for repair with a Toshiba Authorized Service Partner.

But hopefully you didn't install this software.

Hi all

I have a 3 year old p100 which worked fine until one day the screen suddenly went black.
I linked it to an external monitor and the display worked on it.

Am I correct in thinking that if the external monitor shows the display then that means the GPU is still functioning properly?
Could it be the inverter or lcd that has failed?

Yes, this is possible but did you try the FN + F5 button to switch to the internal display?

In worst case the display should be checked and possibly replaced.

hi was using my Satellite P100-113 fine the other day and then the screen just went blank mid use. Now it just tries but fails to restart all the time.

The lights all come on and the screen brightens but nothing actually appears on the screen (no text or anything) and then it just waits a few moments, stops and then darkens as though its just trying to reboot again. Can't then do anything with it - it just keeps cycling and trying to restart until you press and hold the power button or just unplug and let the battery run down.

Any ideas anybody? thanks

Answer:Satellite P100-113 screen went blank and now just keeps trying to reboot

Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor.
Wait few minutes (40-60min) and connect both parts again.
Then try to reboot the notebook and press F2 in order to get the BIOS.

If you will be able to access the BIOS then you should set it to the default settings.

Check if this short workaround will help you.

So I have this laptop that has failed me about 4 months ago. Will not power on anymore. I can press the start button and it sounds like its working but there is nothing on the screen. I can hear the fan every now and again and then a beep after about 1 min after "start up" but screen looks dead. Nothing appears on screen at all.

I've tried the powering on with and without the battery.

My laptop use to get very hot and freeze as far as I remember.

I've replaced my Toshiba with other notebook but if my Satellite is not gonna work again is there a way I can get files off there still?

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Satellite P100 will not power up or has blank screen

> I've replaced my Toshiba with other notebook but if my Satellite is not gonna work again is there a way I can get files off there still?
You need the data and files from the internal HDD?

You could access the data connecting the P100 HDD as an external USB HDD to the other computer.
You could remove the HDD from the P100 and could insert it into a external USB caddy?
I think the HDD supports the SATA interface so you have to look for SATA USB caddies?

Regarding the P100 issue;
Well? it seems to be a hardware problem? We can speculate only about the kind of malfunction but for me it looks like a serious issue?
The best is to get in contact with an notebook technician and to check the single parts?

Good luck

I bought a Satellite P100-350 2 years ago, and since few months it sometimes doesn't go further the "toshiba" sign at boot, the hard drive not working. If I press then once the boot button on the computer, it switches off immediatly. (I don't need to press it for 5 seconds as it normally do when it works properly).

In that case when I relaunch it, I can see again the toshiba screen and a message asking me if I want to start windows with the last configuration and if I do, it opens windows and everything works fine...
I checked, I don't think I have any viruses...

I read also few other posts on the subject and updated the bios as adviced but it changed nothing!
What kind of trouble is it? Energy supply, bios, operating system, ...?

Thanks for your help!

Answer:Black screen at startup - Satellite P100-350

Thats hard to say.. how familiar are you with computers? Do you think you could do some advanced diagnostics on your machine?

I would suggest you to download the "Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win" and check your RAM/harddisk/chipset/etc.. on malfunctions by performing some tests with the applications on the "UBCD4Win".

Otherwise I would recommend to give the machine to someone which has some real clue about notebooks and let him check the whole thing.

Don?t think this could be graphic card issue? it seems to be a display issue because the same line does not appear on the external monitor?

It seems to be a hardware issue and in such case the ASP should be contacted?

If you have an 24 month warranty then the warranty should cover the replacement?

My son's Satellite P100-160 has developed a fault on the screen that no-one seems able to identify the cause of.

If you imagine that the screen is split up into six equal vertical columns about 3in wide, the third one vibrates up and down so the image is fuzzy. This sometimes stops after an hour - but recently it just keeps going. The other 'columns' are fine. Is this the screen itself (easily replaceable), or the video card (on the motherboard), or another component such as the inverter?
For now I'm unsure whether to scrap it and buy another, or replace the screen.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite P100-160 - Vertical screen break-up

I think the easiest way to sort this out is connecting an external monitor to your notebook. If you notice the same problem on external monitor the problem is related to graphic card itself. Otherwise only the display is defective and needs replacing.

So connect an external monitor and check what happens!!!

I am running a Satellite P100 and have recently been seeing some strange behavior.

When I reboot, the screen stays completely black till windows xp has fully loaded up. This is making life very difficult for me at the moment as I am trying to reinstall windows by booting with the CD in the drive, and it doesn't seem possible to see what is going on if I cant see what I am doing.

Could anyone suggest why the screen would display nothing while booting, but display correctly when windows has finished loading? Is this a known problem?

Basically, my laptop has been stuck in a start-up repair loop so my only option is to use the recovery CD. However, I have some files which I did not back up before my laptop decided to fail on me. Is there a way in which I can recover these files whilst simultaneously fixing my laptop ?

I am running Windows Vista SP1.

Thank you for any help,

Answer:Satellite A210-11K - Can I recover my data before using the recovery disk?

You can backup your data if you put the HDD in an external HDD case. Then you can connect it to another notebook or PC and you can save the data on it or burn it on a DVD.
That?s all!

Such external HDD cases are very cheap. I have bought my external HDD case from eBay and it?s working well.

But there is no other way to save the data because the Toshiba recovery disk wipes the whole HDD and all on the HDD will be erased.

I have strange problems with my Sattelite Pro (P100-109 model pspa3e 00n009du). I have the impression the on board video card is letting me down, so if somebody has a solution then please help!

Yesterday, while working properly since I bought the machine, I had some strange video behaviour. Black arround icon's windows not properly updating etc.
After a reboot of the system these problems seemed resolved but this lasted only for a view minutes.
After a while I got a blue screen (BCCode: ea BCP1... BCP4:00000001 SP: 2.0 ) searching the Internet learned that his had to do with the video driver.

Symptoms of the display:
- Vertical dotted lines shown on the toshiba bios screen (all kinds of colors)
- Windows loading show some vertical lines as well
- After loading clickable items appear black (window titles - No buttons shown/rendered)
- Display turns black every 4 seconds
- System responds very slow but sometimes it seems that it works normally
- mouse dissappears
- After some time only a black screen is shown, system does not respond anymore.
- In windows Safe mode (so not using the nvidia drivers) the display seems to work normally

Did the following trying to resolve my issue unsuccesfully:

- I uninstalled/removed the nvidia drivers and installed the latest ones from the toshiba site.
- Removed original drivers and installed drivers from Guru3D site (also used the Driverutility from the same site).

Answer:Strange screen/video behaviour Satellite Pro P100-109

Long story. short answer....

It could be really possible that your GPU chips malfunctions.

I came to this conclusion because the notebook symptoms don?t occur if the graphic card driver is not installed.
If the graphic card driver would be installed then the graphic card would run with best performance and possibly the graphic issues would appear again.

I think you cannot do anything what could solve this issue apart from contacting the ASP in your country and asking for the help.

Good luck

I doubt it. Once a BIOS has been corrupted, its cant boot or anything, so you can't reflash the BIOS. I imagine the mainboard would need replacing.

Hello all,

I have just purchased a brand new P100-160. I purchased the laptop mainly for its spec and screen size / quality, however, there seems to be an odd effect on the screen. To tell you the truth it is hard to describe, however, I would say it is as if the screen is a little 'grainy'.

For instance if I view a blank white screen it looks as if the white background is made of up a variety of pixels lighter and darker than the desired colour (Similar to the static effect on Televisions). I took the laptop back to the shop and explained what I had found, however, they said it was becasue the screen has a glossy finish. This, in my opinion, is not a satisfactory explanation and I have read reports of some people having screens that look perfect and some that look 'grainy' (Mainly in the P & M series). A couple of others say that updating the bios can help; that being said when I search for bios updates on the Toshiba site it says that none are available for the P100-160 (PSPAA).

Just to let you all know that I am running in the maximum native resolution with 32bit colour and the almost-latest driver. The latest drivers forced the screen to go blank when winodws loaded.

Basically I would like to know if any one:
1) Has known of anyone with this problem
2) Knows if this is a screen fault or simply 'how it is'
3) Has any advice on what I should do next
4) Where can I get a bios update?

Thank you all for your time,

Regards, Matt.

Answer:Satellite P100-160 PSPAA: grainy effect on screen

I?m not sure if you are talking about the same issue like this one:
On Satellite A100, Satellite Pro A100, Equium A100 and Tecra A7 models with BIOS version between 1.40 and 1.90 the background is not clear

But if yes then a simply BIOS should helps to solve this problem.

I found also a second, very useful Toshiba document about the BIOS update procedure:
How do I update the BIOS on my Toshiba Notebook and where can I get the latest BIOS for my machine?

Well, what to say, if you will not find any newer BIOS version or if the BIOS will not solve you issue then I assume the next update should helps. Let?s hope?

Hi Guys,

I have a problem that I think has been there since I upgraded my Satellite Pro P100-327 from XP to vista Business.
On boot up, I no longer have any visual on screen until I see the windows logo. Computer works fine otherwise.

Now year and half later I want to load Windows 7 and I am unable to see bios screen. F12, F2 or esc. do not help me although the computer does seem to stall but I can't see it on the screen. I have the latest bios and nvidia drivers installed as far as I know.

The only thing I am not clear about is the "value added package" which I think has the little program "HW" I downloaded the latest version and clicked on load HW in the control panel. Windows asked if I wanted to go ahead and I saw nothing else after that.

many thaks if anyone can help

Answer:Satellite Pro P100-327 no visual screen at bios boot

Do you use an external monitor?

Try resetting the BIOS to its default settings, and configure the Monitors in nVidia Control Panel to the internal LCD only.

Or maybe the LCD Lid Switch is dirty (in the hole to the right of the touchpad). Buy a can of compressed air and spray into the hole to release the dust.

Hi Guys,

I am still having a really weird problem happening to my computer - The symptom is that the computer locks up, and the screen goes blank - although it is not shutting down, so it should not be temp related. I thought it might have been due to me pushing it a bit hard (GTA4 and Fallout 3) at times, but now a program (Solidworks) which I have used almost every day for the last 2 years can make the problem pop up very randomly.

I have tried Video drivers from Laptopvideo2go, as well as the latest Toshiba drivers, so I am thinking that is not the problem.

Comp is a P100 (PSPAGA)
2.17 GHz C2D processor
Vista Home premium
I am running 3GB of RAM with the /3GB switch enabled
I have the 4.5 Bios
I have almost everything else disabled in Vista (it looks like win 2000 etc)

I am really struggling to think of what else I could do to stop it - I was thinking maybe

power supply issues? (not enough power available - although it is always plugged in)
AntiVirus doing something weird...
Maybe the wrong windows services enabled / disabled
Another program I am running at the same time acting up / causing some interferance (usually only have thunderbird, magicdisk, explorer and avg antivirus running though - sometimes firefox too)

Anyone got any Ideas as to what it could be? or how to monitor the system up to the point where I have to shut it down (leave a .txt file that I can access to show memory usage, temps, power usage etc?)

Thanks in advance,

Since buying my Satellite P100-188 I have been happy with the way it operates but have had to send it to the Tech Guys, via PC World, because the orange case on the screen continuously develops hairline cracks around the hinge joints. I am about to send it back for a 3rd time and was wondering if anyone else had also experienced this problem?

The hairline cracks develop into much larger cracks within a relatively short period of time. I use my laptop on a daily basis, when I get home from work, so it is not as though it is used throughout the day and having spent over 1000 on it I am not about to start abusing it.

If anyone has managed to get a result from Toshiba please get in touch with me?

>What steps should I follow?
As far as I know on second HDD partition in folder HDDRecovery is saved recovery image. When you start HDD recovery installation (F8 at start-up) recovery image from partition D will be installed on partition C. In this case partition D will not be deleted. Just partition C will be formatted before recovery image installation starts.
Just use F8 option and go to ?repair my computer?. Just follow menu on the screen and choose option ?Recovery of factory default software?.
> 2 If HDD is defective, how can I re-install supplied OS (vista) to a new HDD ?
After reading this question I see you didn?t read user?s manuals document. You should create recovery media (recovery DVD) and this recovery DVD you can use for recovery image installation if there is some problem with HDD or you want to install original recovery image on new HDD.
> 3 Unrelated to the above, can I update to Windows 7 (clean install) 32 or 64bit version?
Of course you can do this. Visit please Toshiba download page on and check if all drivers, tools and utilities are available there. Of course before you do this, create recovery DVD.

If you have more questions you are welcome.

Hello all,

I had my Satellite Pro P100 (Model Number is PSPAEE-00C006EN and the second digit of the serial number is "7") upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and since then, a couple of bugs seem to have occurred - can anyone help on the following:

-Screen DIMS in increments, regardless of the fact that I have saved my power settings to remain on FULL (battery or mains power)

-No sound. Once or twice, the sound card has worked and the settings say it works properly (and you can see the graphic equalizer moving).
In terms of PC knowledge, I'd be 5/10 (so not a dummy , but certainly not a pro! and have tried a lot of the more obvious things)

Thanks all

1.) If the screen dim option doesn?t work properly anymore, I would recommend reinstalling Toshiba Value Added Package. This package controls such functions, FN keys and others. Check the Toshiba page for an update!!!

2.) Have you checked if the sound is muted if the equalizer works? Furthermore you can also try updating the sound driver? Maybe it works ;)

A few weeks ago, after a Windows 7 Update, my monitor would not show any image, it would light up, but still no image. Not even the BIOS it would load.

I fixed it by using System Restore using another monitor. The same happened again today, I must have ran the same update, but this time a system restore did not solve it, neither did reinstalling Win 7.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Satellite P200-P100 - Black screen after a Windows 7 update

You mean you cannot see anything on the internal nor the external monitor even switching the display output pressing the FN + F5 buttons???
Hmm?. in my personal opinion this has nothing to do with the Win 7 update?

I mean the Win 7 OS update/installation should not affect the BIOS and you should be able to access the BIOS even if no operating system would be installed on the HDD!!!
So I assume the whole issue could be related to the motherboard issue or some parts placed on motherboard?

Did you try this?
Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor
Then wait a little bit (1hour) and then connect both parts again.
Then try to power up the unit?

If this will not help then the RAM modules should be checked.

I have a Satellite Pro P100 which is only 21 months old and have just recently acquired a white band down my screen which is just off centre. I have looked into possible solutions for this and followed the instructions carefully to see if it was a software issue which it appears not to be. The only possible solution appears to be to get the screen replaced. I would like to know if there are many of you who have had this same issue because I am disgusted that I have to get this replaced so early into its life.

I don't even use my laptop as a laptop (i.e carrying it around etc) it just simply sits on my desk at home. I have just checked my warranty and apparently it was only covered for 12 mths!! Just my luck!

If anyone has any suggestions on how best to argue my case with Toshiba into getting this replaced free of charge then all responses are very welcome.

Answer:Broken screen on Satellite Pro P100 - 1 1/2" vertical white line

> Only possible solution appears to be to get the screen replaced

Either it?s a display or the graphic card malfunction!
You could try to connect the external monitor to test if the same would appear on the second monitor.
If the issue would not appear on the external monitor then it?s not a graphic card issue but possible the notebook display problem.
In such case the authorized service provider should be able to provide more details and how to fix it.

Good luck

I have a Toshiba Satellite P100(PSPA6A) and am running Windows XP on it. Over the past month, I have had a problem with my computer where the screen turns white, it then freezes and restarts by itself.

I have taken it to a computer store to get it checked out but they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I have tried to find if any programs are the source of this problem but I have not been able to find any. My computer can be on for 10hrs before this problem occurs and it can be on for about 5mins before this probelm occurs. It can also happen during the windows loading screen before it reaches the welcome screen. If this helps, there is a slight delay from when the screen turns white and when it freezes (I have music playing in the background on several occasions where the music was still playing for a few seconds while the screen was white, and then it froze and restarted).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite P100 (PSPA6A) - White screen, freezes then restarts by itself

Hmm could be a VGA card problem.

Have you tested the RAM and tried updating the VGA Driver? Use the Driver from the Toshiba website. If you use drivers from another source, they can cause problems like this.

Perhaps even run Recovery to rule out a software problem (Backup your data first).

Hi guys, my first post! Had my Tosh for 3 years now. I have a problem with the display now. It looks as if the colour depth is really low or something.. like I've whacked it on 8bit colour depth! Everything looks heavily posterized in the graphical sense.

I've uninstalled video drivers and reinstalled a new one, an old one, a toshiba version, an nvidia driver version and all have no effect on the problem. No joy!

I've gone through and checked all the resolution and colour depth settings and trawled through the many pages of nvidia settings and toyed with any reasonable settings to find the problem. No change. Everything reset to how I found it.

I've been reading through the forums and not really found anything specific. If I've missed it then I'd love a link here slapped in my face to show how incompetent I am! ;)

I am however gonna try disconnecting the battery and power for an hour and powering up again afterwards as that seems to be the standard fix or must try for everything. What does this do exactly? Reset BIOS/CMOS etc?

Thanks in advance!

I got this P100-286 with Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 GS and recently the laptop started freezing with vertical lines on the screen tried different options even tried recovery cd to re-install and after installation it started doing the same. I have read similar problems in the forum and is this a common problem with Toshiba? I have spend ?1500 on this and it is only 3 years old. My friends have laptops older than this almost 6 years and in good working condition.
Is there any solution or suggestion for this problem? The heat on the base of the laptop is really hot and it is like this for ages.

Any help is really appreciated after spending this much would like to last longer or it is a realibility issue with Toshiba brand.

Answer:Satellite P100-286 - Vertical lines on the screen and constant reboots

Hi vns,

Hmm? Strange. I never read about such problems here in forum with Satellite P100. Friend of me has the same model and it?s still working properly, no problems at all.

Do you have the same vertical lines on an external display? If yes it?s definitely related to internal graphic card and not monitor.
By the way: Do you have the same problem in BIOS or just Windows?

Regarding the heat on bottom side: I think it?s time to clean it and remove the dust. You can do this using compressed air spray to blow out the dust from cooling ventilators. Therefore it?s not necessary to disassemble your notebook.

I got this laptop of my friend and he lost the driver CD. I think I have got Nvidia Go 7600 in it.
When I install the driver which I downloaded of site and official Nvidia site It works fine till I restart the PC. After "Welcome" there is just a black screen.

I would be glad if you guys would help me.

Answer:Satellite P100-102 - Black screen after display driver installation

Hi Criz-Lee,

Yes, P100-102 is equipped with nVidia GeForce FX Go7600 and therefore you can download the newest and pretested driver here:

But this notebook is a little bit older so you have to search in *Archive*.

Interesting to know would be what OS you have and have you installed the chipset driver? This should be installed first.

My laptop: Toshiba Satellite Pro PSPA6A-028017 with Nvidia GeForce Go 7900GS

Ok, here's the story. I turned my laptop on a week ago and the screen was blank. I plugged in an external monitor via AVI and tried Fn+F5 but nothing. Upon restart the external monitor worked. When I tried to toggle displays the external monitor turned off and I was left with a blank screen - I'd obviously switched back to laptop display but, working blindly, I couldn't work out how to get the external monitor to fire up again. Fn+F5 did nothing.

At that point I called Toshiba for warranty support (Onsite, Next Business Day). They had a technician with new monitor/screen onsite the next day (after a few calls from me to follow up). He replaced the screen but had some trouble getting the display up and running. He finally managed to login to Windows Safe Mode and get the screen running but only on 800x600. He updated Bios and drivers. He was then able to up the resolution to 1024x768. Any higher and the screen would go blank again.

At that point we plugged in an external monitor via VGA. It worked but the technician could not get the each display to run on individual resolution. It has him stumped and he acknowledged that things still weren't right. Later, after the technician left, I managed to get both displays working and each set to their own resolution. However I still could not connect the external monitor via DVI (only VGA). I was at least temporarily back to work!

Hi everybody.

I have a Toshiba Satellite P100, already 3 years old.
Recently has appeared on my screen an intermittent thin vertical yellow line.

Nothing serious, but extremely annoying, specially when I play or watch some movies.
I've just found out that it's not a software problem, but a hardware one (i've connected the laptop with my tv, and there's no yellow line shown on the telescreen).

So I guess there's something wrong with the lcd screen of my Satellite.

You think it's worth trying to fix this? What can I do?

Answer:Satellite P100 - thin yellow line appeares on screen

>So I guess there's something wrong with the lcd screen of my Satellite.

Fact is that such issues might be related to a faulty LCD or graphic chip?
But since this line is no visible on the TV or external monitor this could be an internal screen issue and not a graphic chip issue?

>You think it's worth trying to fix this? What can I do?
Well, a notebook screen is not cheap part therefore.
It costs about 300-350 Euros and I would not try to replace this if the warranty is not valid anymore?

Anybody have the answer to this problem

Many thanks

Answer:Satellite P100 - white screen on left side aproxx 1.5 inchs

I don't know what kind of answer do you expect here.
What you should do is to check if this problem is related to defective LCD screen.

If possible contact your notebook to external monitor and check functionality. If this white part is not shown on external monitor the LCD is defective and should be exchanged.

I just done update BIOS on my laptop Toshiba P100-286 and since then I can't use it. When pressing the power button the computer doesn't start, the screen is blank (black).

Any ideas how to resolve this issue ?!

Please help.

Answer:Re: Satellite P100-286 doesn't start - black screen after BIOS update

Try this:
- Remove battery and disconnect the AC adaptor
- wait several time about ~30-40min
- connect both parts and try to power up

If this will not help you then you will need to ask the ASP in your country for BIOS refalsh. It looks something went wrong during the update procedure.

I have a Satellite P100-429. Three weak ago I install Windows Vista ultimate edition but now the highest screen refresh rate is 60 Hz. I have tried downloading the latest drivers for the graphics card but that will not work and the computer also says that the monitor is called generic PNP.

Before Vista a had a screen refresh rate of 100Hz and the monitor had its proper name Toshiba TruBrite WXGA+ TFT display I have tried looking for drivers for the monitor but no success can someone help me pretty please I get headaches for low screen refresh rates.

Answer:Wrong screen refresh rate shown under Vista - Satellite P100-429

Did you install the right graphic card driver???
Immediately after the Vista installation the OS uses the ?own? common Microsoft graphic driver.
If you want to use additional graphic options you will need to install the compatible graphic card driver.

But I would like to clarify something. The LCD or TFT displays provide excellent quality and resolution at 60Hz.
the refresh rate on TFT simply does not mean the same like on the CRT monitors.
The Response Time, Image Brightness and Image Contrast Ratio are more important for a TFT or LCD monitor as the refresh rate.

The display performance and the quality is not worse if it run on 60Hz
Therefore I don't see any reasons to change the refresh rate to 100Hz

I've recently purchased a Satellite P100-347 secondhand and thought I would get a spare battery for it. The battery already in it has the model number PA3480U-1BRS and is 10.8V 6000mAh. I eventually purchased (on the internet) a 4000mAh battery PA3479U-1BRS. Every site I looked at on the internet gave me the impression these batteries were equivalent (apart from the mAh obviously).

However, I now see that the original battery has a 'dimple' (on the shiny plastic near the connectors) which locates on a plastic domed 'spigot' on the bottom of the battery compartment. The spare battery I've just purchased has no such dimple and hence won't slot into the compartment because the spigot stops it.

It seems odd to me that loads of sites seem to quote these two battery model numbers as being compatible with many P100 models. I will probably sell the battery on and in order to make sure someone gets a battery they can use I would be interested to know if the P100-347 is alone in having the spigot in the battery compartment and/or exactly what models will accept a PA3479U-1BRS battery?

Thanks for any help

Answer:Battery for Satellite P100-347 in particular and P100 in general

I must say that I really do not understand why is for you so important what models will accept a PA3479U-1BRS battery. The fact is that you need replacement. The new part must 100% be compatible with your notebook and it is always best solution to buy absolutely the same replacement part.

As you can see on your original battery there is exact battery Part number and you can use it to order the replacement.

As you can see looking the picture on the Internet can result with mispurchase. To be honest I am really surprised that you buy 4000mAh battery if the original one has 6000mAh. Everyone here wants to have better battery for longer working period and you order battery with lower capacity.

Contact the shop and send the battery back, order the right one and enjoy your life. ;)

I have toshiba satellite p100-106. On the back of the machine my model is PSPADE-018010G3.

When I want to check bios version or some other software or drivers it writes under p100-106 section: what's your model PSPA0E, PSPA3E, PSPA6E. But there is no PSPADE like mine is. I've checked it 5 times and it's not 0 it's letter d on my notebook.

What to choose?

Answer:What Satellite P100 series includes P100-106?

I am not 100% sure but I presume it works on this way:
Your notebook is delivered and preinstalled with Vista operating system. Your OS is complete and new. I do not believe that you will find any update in this short time. BIOS is also the latest one. Other units (Satellite P100-PSPA0, Satellite P100-PSPA3 and Satellite P100-PSPA6) are WXP units and all of them are Vista supported. Because of that there is priority to give support for those units because of Vista installation.

When new update will be available for your unit you will find it under but at the moment there are no updates available.

What to choose? Nothing! Be happy with your new toy.

So I installed a program that saves any streaming audio off my soundcard. It wouldn't work because my laptop does not support it. I'm not sure if that caused the problem, but anyways a few minutes later my antivirus showed something about 'windows nt blocked' and then all of a sudden I got a blue screen saying something about my physical memory. Then it froze there. I rebooted and the blue screen keeps on coming up after the windows scroll bar thingy loads.

It looks a bit like this :

except on top it says problem is caused by: SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

and at the bottom it's STOP: 0x0000006F (not sure if that helps).

I call circuit city (where I have my warranty from) and they told me a few steps that I already knew. I tried to reboot pc through cd rom (i went in bios and changed it so cdrom loads first) and when I reboot the cd does not load! It goes to the screen that asks me how I want to start up (safe mode, normal, etc). It just never goes to the CD so I can't even recover it myself. Instead I have to send it in and i will get it back in 2 weeks. Anyone know any hints i'm missing? Any help would be appreciated! I'm using windows home edition.

My daughter's Acer Aspire One netbook is getting the "unmountable boot volume" blue screen error. Following instructions I've found, I set the bios to default settings, which did not correct the problem. The next step is supposed to boot up with a Windows XP CD. The netbook doesn't have a CD drive, but she had an external DVD drive. So I set the boot order to start with CD drive, which didn't work, then to HDD drive, which also didn't work. When I do this, the screen stays black except for a blinking underscore cursor. I've let it go for up to 10 minutes with no change. Exactly what is the right boot setting if trying to boot up to the Windows CD via an external DVD drive? If what I did above was correct, but still didn't work, what else can I do to access the repair option off the Windows CD? Any other thoughts? Thanks!

Answer:How to recover from blue screen on a netbook?

First boot into the Setup Bios, make sure the HDD is being recognized. If not, the drive may have died. If the HDD is being recognized but still receiving the error, then change the Boot order to be USB first boot device. That should recognize your external DVD drive and the boot disc. Here get to the Recovery Console, type in FIXBOOT and hit enter. You may also have a Restore Partition on that computer. Try hitting the F11 key at boot up and it will take you to the restore partition (if it isn't damaged) here you can restore your computer to Factory Defaults, you will loose any data on the drive. You can back up your data first with an Ubuntu live CD and a flash drive.

I am new on here and am not too computer savvy, so bear with me!

My computer (of course, not this one) keeps restarting itself when it gets to the windows xp load up screen. It doesn't get past that screen then proceeds to restart itself over and over. I looked on here and there was the suggestion to run the windows xp cd and do the recovery process. The Windows website even suggested it was a problem with the kernel file (whatever that is, like I said, I dont know too much!) so I was going to repair that. Well I put in the disc, it gets me to the point where I push "R" to Recover and then a blue screen pops up and says:

Boot off of the XP CD Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for memtest and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn boot off of the troubled computer with the newly created CD and run the tests with one stick of RAM in at a time for at least 7 passes each.

So this Friday, my Run box, Task Manager, and System Restore features were disabled. I was advised that it must be a virus and to download SpyHunter. I did that, but no noticeable changes occurred. I was then told to go into Safe Mode, and try another virus scan. I did that, but I opened one of my chat programs to ask more from my friend. The computer then crashed. It crashed two more times. When things were resolved, my programs were acting laggy and my programs took a very long time to open.
The next day, my other friend fixed my original problems, but the choppiness still occurred. Hello. My R60 blue screened today with a Unmountable Boot Volume message. I've tried restarting in all possible ways, safe mode etc etc and it just reverts to the blue sceen. I've tried the Think Vantage system to rescue and recover but it isn't recognising any files or any back up to restore to. I'm plugging a USB in before I turn on the machine, following the instructions etc but it doesn't bring up any files or folders from any drive to rescue, the searches yield 0 results and then, when I try to restore it, it doesn't offer any back ups to revert to! I have definitely clicked yes many times when prompted to back up. To make matters worse, I got the computer through a company IT department and they prepped it for me so I have no discs to go with it!! It has all my photos on it and worse, all my financials and business plan info as I'm just about to start a new business. I got it in 2007 so well out of warranty. Answer:Satellite Pro U200 cannot recover from standby - freezing screen

Maybe it?s time for a new OS installation from the Toshiba recovery CD ?:|
What do you thin about this possibility?

I don?t know what you have done in the last 9 month with the notebook but I presume you have installed/uninstalled different software.

So possibly you could solve this issue with the fresh OS.

I have a Satellite Pro with Windows 7.
Like Emma in a previous thread I am having trouble with the screen freezing and having to turn off to recover.

I think it could have something to do with Windows updates but can anyone offer any assistance.

Please! In plain English please because I am a silver surfer!

Answer:Screen freezes - Need turn off Satellite C660 series to recover display

Hi Mariel

It would be interesting and useful to know what notebook model you have.
Secondly did you try to reinstall or update the display driver?

Please do that.

I have a Dell Dimension 8200. Not partitioned. Run WinXP Pro SP3 fully up to date, Kaspersky, usually also WinPatrol, yesterday as I will explain below briefly ran Snoopfree.

For about a week I have been noticing that when I type it takes (often not always) long time to see what I've been typing. Yesterday I downloaded a new Snoopfree, it saw PBExplorer.exe, don't know if that was part of a problem. Then ---

downloaded, ran gmer and rist or whatever it is from the HiJackThis section. They ran and I was actually about to post them here when....

Windows stopped. No keyboard nor mouse recognition.

I pressed the power button to turn it off.

Turned it back on. Get the Dell icon etc as usual at start, then the Intel... screen (I have BIOS A05) and errors PXE- E61 media test failure and PXE M0F exiting intel boot agent.

Yes I am stupid. I put my windows disk (it is SP2 on that disk which I bought from Windows, it is fully legit but not the one that originally came on the Dell in 2002) in the cd drive thinking that I am able to boot off that --- I do not know what I am doing needless to say --- next time get to some blue screens indicating that Windows is reloading drivers etc, then get to a screen indicating that it can't find a hard drive. (My hard drive is C: as far as I know as of yesterday morning, I never tried to change it). Did this a couple of times.

At this point I don't know if I turned a software problem into a hardware problem or wh... Read more

It seems that Connectify is causing this trouble. There are known issues with Connectify, you might need to remove it. Try updating to the latest version first: Connectify - Reviews and free Connectify downloads at CNET

If BSODs persist, uninstall Connectify completely.

Hey guys,

So for the last few days I've been investigating a blue screen problem with no luck. The computer boots fine and runs for fine for a minute or two before blue screening. I ran memory and HD tests in the BIOS that were normal. It runs fine in safe mode which was making me think there's something malicious hiding somewhere. I ran DDS and GMER in safe mode and then my computer suddenly freaked out and now all of my files and icons have disappeared. I managed to salvage my GMER log but lost the DDS log. I've attached a new DDS log after the data loss. My GMER log was too large to attach, not sure what to do there. I can run a new GMER scan after the data loss if needed as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Answer:Blue screen Blues and Data Loss

It appears that a lot of my icons and such were just hidden. Still it appears that my HD has a lot less of the capacity filled than it did earlier today.
