what screwdriver to use to remove fan cover on satellite p10

Question: what screwdriver to use to remove fan cover on satellite p10

i am lost as to which screwdriver i need to remove the cover around the fan and heat sink, my p 10 is over heating now all the time and im hoping its because, of dust and dirt that has been sucked in over the last year and a half, the screws i need to open are an actual star shaped screw, not the normal philips star like the rest of the screws on the unit, I hope someone here can point me in the right direction as to where i can get one of these scredrivers........... thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: what screwdriver to use to remove fan cover on satellite p10

Hi

Sorry but your question is a little bit laughable for me. Before you wait for some answer Google a little bit around or ask in some store for tool kit.

My last notebook was Satellite P20. It is the similar unit just a little bit bigger but with the same screws. It is not recommended to use non-original screwdriver but I have done it. Please don?t do this because of screw damaging.

Hi,

my manual says that I need a "point size 0 phillips screwdriver" to access the RAM and HD.

I bought one off amazon and the screws are way too small for the screwdriver. I also bought a box of 11 precission screwdrivers and none of them fit.

What screwdriver do I need??

Thanks

Answer:Satellite R830-143 - what screwdriver do I need to remove RAM cover?

I don?t have this notebook model but it cannot be so complicated to identify which screws are used.
Compare screws with screw types and use right screwdriver.

It cannot be so problematic.

Hi, I have a satellite 100 that I need to remove the top cover to get to the hard drive. I have removed all of the screws from the back and when I try to remove the cover it seems to get stuck near the keyboard just above where the glidpath mouse is. Does anyone have any idea how i would remove the cover completely to get to the hard drive?
Many thanks....

Answer:Remove Satellite 1100 top / keyboard cover

Dear Neil

Believe me on this unit it is very complicated to do this. If you want to remove HDD you must separate top cover (after removing keyboard).

- At the bottom side there are ten screws that must be removed.
- When the keyboard is removed there are six screws that secure top cover
- Disconnect the touchpad
- Lift the top cover off by pulling gently upwards from the back corners and releasing the latches on the front side
- If I am remember well the HDD is secured just with one screw
- After removing the securing screw pull the HDD forward to free it from the system board connector

If you are not familiar with assembling/disassembling procedure please don?t do it on your own.

Sorry if my explanation is not precise enough but on this way it is not easy to do explain every handling step.

Bye

How do I open the back (botton) of my Satellite S50D-B-103? I need to put in some more memory.

Answer:How to remove bottom cover of Satellite S50D-B-103

You just need to remove all the screws in the base, then wedge the cover off.

But you may want to get an ASP to do it since this may void the warranty, or something may break.

I have an A200-27Z

I want to remove the HDD2 cover for 2 reasons:
firstly to install a 2nd disk
secondly to investigate why PC cards will only insert halfway.

I've removed the 2 screws but the cover simply will not budge. Something else is holding it.

I'd rather not apply force or open the entire casing.

Anyone know the secret technique?

Thanks in advance

hi,

remove it with more power. There just the 2 screws. But I don't think u will able to install a second HDD because there will be no plugin on the mainboard for the HDD.

the reason for you PC card halfway issue is: this is a ExpressCard 26pin Slot and not a PCMCIA Slot. The card looks diffrent!

Video of the built-in webcam of my new Satellite A350 is - even in good light conditions - very blurry, tune of the built-in microfon is - even regulated to max - very low.

In front of the webcam there's a plastik cover (written Web Camera on it).
Has this cover to be removed for better/original video?

If so, how is that to do? I tried softly, but don't want to damage anything.

Thx in advance
Rainer

Answer:Satellite A350 - plastik cover on front of webcam to remove?

No! This plastic cover cannot be removed. It?s fixed!
I?ve got a U400 and I?ve got the same came with the same cover? you cannot remove it definitely!

If your webcam picture is too blurry then I would recommend enabling the ?Night mode? in the webcam properties!!!
In audio settings of the webcam properties you can increase the audio volume (mic volume) in order to get better sound quality.

Hello, I have a Lenovo Yoga 710 15 80V50000U laptop and I am trying to add memory. I have opened the back but there seems to be a metal box/cover around the ram that I can't figure out how to remove. There are several groups (of 2) clips around each side of the metal cover and also many holes on the top/sides. Do I remove it by prying the clips and/or removing screws? If there are screws, I don't see them, could they be inside those little holes (and if so which holes)?  Thank you, Jan

I spilled water on the top of my computer, and it messed up one of the USB ports on the top of it...  now the computer constantly pops up connect/disconnect messages.  I want to take the top bezel (or cover, or whatever it's called) off so that i can disconnect (or cut) the cable to that USB port, but i cant figure out how to remove it.  Does anyone know how to take it off?  It's the very top of the machine, which has the power button and 4 or 5 inputs.  Both USB cables go into one plug at the motherboard, otherwise i would just disconnect it there.  I suppose i could cut one of them at the motherboard, but i want to make sure im cutting the right one. Thanks for any help.

I'm not an owner of your model, but I will try to help.  When you attempt to remove the cover are you lifting it straight up before trying to remove it?  Also did you remove the 8 screws at the locations shown in the manual ?

Here is a Lenovo Training Video that demonstrates removing the base cover on the A720 model.  The only difference in removing the cover between the A740 and the A720 is that the A720 has 7 screws instead of the 8 on your model.

Hi, Maybe a stupid question but I would like to expand the memory of my L530 and I loosened both screws but the cover seems to fit very tightly or still seems to be fixed somewhere else.  Since I do not want to apply brute force in order not to break anything I wondered whether anyone has had some experience with this. Thanks in advance, Bart

Answer:How to remove bottom cover L530?

Hi, Bart

The DIMM slots for memory modules on the L530 are in two different locations. There is one on the underside of the computer, and there is one underneath the keyboard. The entire base cover of the machine does not need to be removed to replace either of these. The bottom door on the base cover does need to be removed, which will allow you to change/replace one of the modules. There are also two screws underneath this door that will allow you to remove the keyboard, which will allow you to change/replace/add a memory module here.

To assist you, here are some videos from Lenovo on how to remove and replace certain pieces of hardware, and here is the Hardware Maintenance Manual that will provide further assistance.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I'm under the impression, to get the front cover off, you need to remove the "back" or "rear" panel first(.i.e. not the one you can remove with a Torx  15 Screwdriver...The other panel.) That way, once removed, you can loosen the3 tabs on each side of the front panel, to remove it. To have a look at the rear of my computer, although it's not my computer, it looks exactly the same. He shows the rear of the case, around 50 sec. into the video...Are those some type of screws? YouTube Video Thanks in advance, Chef_D

Hey,

Lately I've been experiencing unexpected shutdowns, so I figured the best thing to do was to clear the layer of dust from my heat sink. Unfortunately for me, my computer model (see below) requires that I disassemble the entire laptop to reach the heat sink and fan. Currently, I need to remove the laptop top cover assembly, but it simply won't budge. If I try to lift it up from the edges, it feels like something is holding it in place in the middle, even though I've unscrewed everything from top to bottom.

How do I get it off? Has anyone ever experienced this before??

hi noveedicto01,

Welcome to  the Forums.

I personally use a lint free cloth that's slightly damped with a 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean the base cover (that's usually filled with fingerprint marks / dust), the LCD panel (dark marks), and the keyboard.

You can also use a 50/50 mix of alcohol + distilled water to clean the base but this may take a few more minutes to dry rather than using alcohol only.

Hello.I guess neither Lenovo or Intel are going to do anything about it, just hope it may help someone.Bought Flex 2 15 and tried installing a new Intel 530 240gb SSD instead of the HDD - doesn't recognize it at all after reboot; after cold boot it sees the SSD, but everything comes out as zeroes (disk utilities show the drive as if it was not initialized, and any attempts to write to it fail). --- By the way, some tips for those who decide to replace HDD or RAM on these laptops:- It's not very hard, but you have to be patient and careful. HDD and RAM are not CRU, so if you damage anything in the process, the warrany will be void.- Read the HMM first.- I highly recommend to get special tools for opening plastic covers. Don't use metal objects like knives as they are much more likely to damage the plastic.- HMM says "loosen the keyboard with fingers" - it's impossible. Use plastic opening tool to carefully grab the top part of the keyboard. Try not to twist the keyboard too much, only apply the pressure in the places where it's attached.- Removing the back cover is relatively easy, but HMM is also confusing here: remove the screws mentioned on p. 38 *first* before removing all the screws from the back cover and opening it.- Use a spudger to pry open the plastic cover, it actually comes off easily after that. Just received my Y650 and need to slip in my SSD. I unscrewed 20 screws and was able to lift up the front half but it was stuck at the back near the hinges. (a) How does the cover release from near the hinges? Did I miss some screws or something or should I just pull harder? (b) Also when lifting the cover there were a few cables connected between the top & bottom halves. Do I have to disconnect each one or is there enough clearance to work with them connected?

press a top and bottom button while computer is flipped on side. Now with both

opens like a giant clam, and that it doesn't fully open at that. The drive bays are attached to one
side, the motherboard etc...to the other. There isn't a screw in the whole thing (a plus), but access
to everything sucks big time. Furthermore...it is cheap and flimsy being all constructed from

I have a new HP15-ba053nr with a slow hard drive (5200 rpm SATA) and for the music work I'm doing I need a faster HD.  I've purchased an SSD SATA III hard drive, but there is no compartment on my notebook to open up to access the existing hard drive for replacement.  There are 9 screws, which I've removed, but I can't get the plastic back to separate so I can access the HD.  Can someone tell me if there are latches, sealant, or other things that are preventing this, or can you suggest how (and/or where) I should try to separate the cover from the notebook?  Thanks much.

I need to provide internet connectivity to about 8 users via satellite. Its out in bfe and other than dial up (not even any local numbers with that) Satellite is the only half broadband option I can get.
This setup is not only going to have to provide for up to 8 users. Most likely never all accessing the net at one. Maybe one person at a time or two.
But the distances are going to put a strain on things. We are talking about at times a total run of about 500 feet. Now I know that about 100 meters is the max I can go without signal loss. I plan on going from the satellite/modem/main computer/router about 100 meters to a switch. which then will run between 100-200 feet to each location.

Now heres the biggy. Most of this is going outside in the ground, There are 6 separate buildings two buildings with two connections and two single connection buildings.
This is all on one property whos total dimentions are about 600x600ft
There will eventually be about 16-20 pc's across the property. And I imagine there will have to be at least one or two more satellites to provide adequate bandwidth as one satellite will provide only 1.5mbs.

Anyways I would muchly appreciate some input on this. It'd be great to know if this will or wont work before we go and spend all the money on the hardware.

thanks

Hi,

I have a P300-01S (Canada). There is a second drive bay, including the sata/power connectors.
I've installed a second hard drive (64gb SSD), and it works just fine.

However, the cover for the drive bay will not fit back on. The cover has 5 pegs that prevent it from being put back on if a drive is in the bay. I believe the pegs are there to provide support to the cover when no drive is in there.

I see no way to remove these other then to snap them off. Any ideas?
These are not the normal tabs on the edges that are used to hold the cover in place, these are 1/2" long cylindrical pegs in the middle of the drive bay cover.

Found another thread about this, it seems others are just cutting off the pegs, I will do the same I guess.

There is a high risk to damage the notebook, i.e. false screw in the cover ca damage the mainboard or cover!

Hi,

I need to "check cables and power", as a result of the Seatools for Dos test and on start up "Media failure, check cables PXE-E61" message. I also get a message from the CHKDSK using the XP Pro CD, saying after 26% that "The volumn appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems".

Do I remove all B6 screws or what else - to remove the rear cover to "check the cables"?

The start up defaults to the Safe Mode screen, then to BSOD no matter which choice is taken, the BSOD is too short a time to read the message and their is no option in Safe Mode choices to turn off "Restart on failure".

I have removed and reinserted the HDD and RAM with no change to issue.

Hope this makes sense and someone can give advice.

Answer:How to remove back cover of Tecra S1 PT831A to check cable and power?

Hello

Every notebook has in BIOS the list of all bootable devices. If none of them can be used the last one, LAN port, will be checked and then you will see this PXE-E61 message.
So the problem can be your HDD.

Start with HDD check. Enter BIOS and set it to default settings. Restart notebook and check if HDD is recognized and listed properly in BIOS settings. If yes there is no problem with connectors.

I recommend you to obtain new HDD for testing purposes. Put new HDD and try to install OS using original Toshiba recovery disc.
Please post some feedback.

I have a satellite Pro L20 notebook for 4 years since 2006.

I have to say the quality of Toshiba is good.
In the last 4 years i dont have any problems with this notebook. Recently and finaly my notebook front cover break down.

When i seek for repairing service, i find toshiba's after sell service is terrible.
I have to pay a fee to order the part for my Satellite Pro L20. It takes more than a week just find out whether there is a part available; if there is no part available that deposit is not refundable, even the reception suggested me seek third party repair centre to get my notebook fixed in order to avoid the risk.

If you likely to upgrade your lap top in 2 or 3 years, Toshiba is good.
If you want to use that computer more than 3 years and have limited warrenty cover try other provider, because Toshiba may tell you they don't have the parts for your computer.

You may like me have to take risk to pay the deposit first and never get that money back.

Answer:Satellite Pro L20 - broken cover - Part order

Hi

It?s pity to hear that?. But I?m very happy with my Toshiba notebooks and service.
I?ve got two different units? one A200 series and other belongs to U400 series.

Recently I have ordered a keyboard for one of my babies because one of the buttons did not work as I should because of the spilled juice?.

I called a Toshiba ASP in my country? one of the ASP didn?t have this spare part but I could choose between three different ASPs so I called another one?

Everything went smoothly and 4 days later the keyboard arrived... I?m notebook literate and could replace it quickly?
I paid only for my keyboard and this was ok!
I?m satisfied and I made a good experience...

Hi

I have 2 cracks appearing either side of the hinges on the outer plastic case.

The warranty is out unfortunately.
My questions are -

Where can I get a new cover?
How much will it cost?
Is it easy to fit?

Thanks in advance

Bob

Answer:Few questions regarding cracked cover on Satellite P100

Bad to hear that your machine has some cracks in cover.
Ok, now for your questions.

You can get needed parts, in your case a new cover from your local ASP. They can tell you what it will cost exactly, because I don't have any clue how much this could cost and I would advise you to let them change this part for you as well, because I don't think, that it is easy to do it by yourself.

If you think you can handle it, ok, try it, but if you have no experience at all in such technical things, I would really suggest to give it to your friendly ASP. ;)

Hello to everyone.

Maybe someone could help me what to do next. I bougth netobook Toshiba P100-221 in August 2006.
After 4 months (Dec. 2006) the cover broke first time. The cover was replaced by ASP.
Then cover broke once again after 4 months (Apr. 2007). ASP replaced it.
Third time cover broke after 9 months (Jan. 2007), and once again it was repaired by ASP.

Now, in Jan. 2008 the crack appears once again (4 time) on the cover.
Taking the frequency of this defect in to account, it looks that it is a technical problem which lays on the manfacture side.
I've just received an answer from ASP that they can offer me a paid service.

Could someone advice how to solve this problem finally?
Maybe someone who is reading this post works for Toshiba and could help me?

Unfortunately, there is no other solution as to replace the both mentioned parts!

I also have the light at the front and the blanked off switch on the right and a manual which talks of wireless LANS in glowing tones.
I was lead to believe that it was wireless enabled but it is not!!!
It even comes up with a graphic "searching for a wireless connection" but that's pointless if it has not got the stuff to work [when it's inches from the wireless hub].

Because I want to upgrade my HDD to a SSD.
The motherboard does support Sata III :D.

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite L70-A-139 - Warranty void when removing cover to RAM and HDD

No, the warrant should be still valid.
You will find a removable cover at the bottom of the unit as mentioned here:

Then you should be able to upgrade the RAM and the HDD.

If you think that there is something wrong with the notebook?s hardware, then you should get in contact with an local Toshiba ASP.
The technicians could check this and could provide your more information if it?s hardware fault.

Sorry mate but on this virtual level it?s difficult to say if its hardware problem.

hello

I bought a Satellite L855-12n (ice blue) two days ago. it kept stinging my skin like mild electric shocks when I touched the bottom left and right corners of the touchpad. It happened only when it is plugged in and I'm barefoot that led me to the conclusion that is an earthing problem.
I complained to the store but they didnt have a clue and nor did the Toshiba technical support..I tried it in different places and happened also to some friends of mine that checked it, so it's not a problem of my house's sockets.
The store at last e replaced it with another one but *the same thing happened*!!!!
even the model they have for display in the store did the same thing (i actually had to take my shoes off among all the customers to prove my point)

I'm very dissapointed and even thinking about a lawsuit if necessary for a refund . I asked a 3-pin adaptor from toshiba but they said I need to send it to their technical support offices and when that is done I'cant take a refund or exchange it with a new model so I'm taking a big risk here if it turns out that the changing of the adapter doesnt solve the problem.

any help?

Hello everyone. I am Big Guy Zee and I've just signed up to the lenovo forums today with an issue that you guys could help me with. I've had my IBM T42 (model-type 2373-Q91) for over a year now and it's not too bad, it came with 1GB of RAM but as most of you know it can take 2GB of RAM. It can still be slow at times so I'm considering an upgrade. Now unfortunately, Im pretty sure that both of my RAM slots are used up. One slot is easy to access (in the base, which is being used up) but the other is underneath the keyboard! (come on, why under there?) I know a place where I can get a couple of cheap1GB RAM sticks but there is one problem, for me to access that heard-to-reach slot I have to un-screw a lot of screws, and I can't find a decent screwdriver that's the right size. I've used the smallest I could find but still no luck. So I was wondering, have any of you taken out the keyboard of your T42? What type of screwdriver did you use? Was it special in any way? Could I find it online (seeing as I'm from the UK)?  I've got an OK screwdriver for the easy slot but a part of me wants to upgrade in full. Can you help? Thank you

anyone know where I can get a screwdriver that fits the back
of my computer. It is a compaq laptop, the screws are not
straight or philips, the are a sort of "star" shape and very tiny.
I tries a eyeglass screw set driver but that was too small.
Thanks

Answer:Where to get Screwdriver at ?

You're referring to either hex or, more likely, torx. I've always had the best luck with Craftsman tools (at almost any Sears). You could also check Radio Shack.

Hi there, I have to take off from a netbook its screen. On various it forums it says I need a flathead or a phillips screw driver. Thing is though is that I imaagine that there are lots of those around, so can you tell me which one I need? TIABelcanto

Answer:What screwdriver do I need?

Flat (electrical) screwdriver 3mm. Philips #0 or Philips #1A pack of jewellers screwdrivers has these sizes.Magnetic bit holders with an assortment of bits are useful. Or a tiny piece of BluTak moulded onto tip is useful when removing/replacing screws in recesses.CD/DVD marker pen (fine). Mark cables and connectors as you take them apart.Take static precautions frequently. Especially if you move around over a carpet.I stick a screwdriver into the earth of a socket. Or touch water pipe/radiator bare metal (lick finger)Not through paint, its an insulator. Good lighting/workarea/torch/magnifying glass.Use fingers and nails or flat metal when prising plastic pieces apart. Screwdriver will chew the plastic.Download the maintenance service manual guide beforehand. And look for YouTube videos for your model or general ones.Google "how to replace laptop screen"Print out if no second computer to see while laptop in bits.I usually squeeze a blob or 4 of superglue onto a piece of scrap paper and dip the screws in and get the tiniest amount of glue possible on the end of the screw when reassembling.Use the magnet bit or screwdriver + BluTak when doing this.I don't have nice red, green or blue Threadlock. It doesn't lock the screws in permanently, just helps them stop coming loose inside.I think that's all except good luck and take your time.

Hi,

I have an old A100 496 and after trouble with viruses I used a backup disc for windows vista 32 bits and reinstalled everything.

Now, however, the visuals are funny.
On the whole it's working but what I see on the screen doesn't seem quite right and a few things don't work; like the cover flow for albums in itunes music or the screen saver (it says a need a more up-to-date video card, which is odd because it worked before when i was using window xp.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Answer:Satellite A100-496 - cover flow for albums & screen saver does not work

hi,

hmm It's really strange that it doesn't work properly now. goto the toshiba driver page and update it:

Note, your model drivers are placed into *archive* in product Type section.

Although I do not do a lot of fiddling around with computer parts, I have recently removed a HDD and CD/DVD drive from a old laptop to place in enclosures. I managed with the small screwdrivers that I had in my possession until I came to removing the bracket from the back of the cd/dvd dive so that I could place it in the caddy, and found that nothing I had would fit the 2 small screws that held the bracket on.Trying to use the wrong type will only make things worse. My question is are all computer screws the same type e.g. Posidrive, Philips, Torx ect and can you recomnend a screwdriver set that will cover what I may need.

Answer:computer screwdriver set

I bought a set of 2 screwdrivers from qvc which had interchangeable bits. They came in 2 sizes normal and very small. They also have the advantage of a flexible shaft if you need to get into awkward places. The screws on most caddies are normally philips type and any multibit set should do.

My fan has become really loud. So, I thought its about time to clean the inside of my computer and the fan. But what I did was, I opened up the fan case using a magnetic screwdriver (Idiot Me). I did not touch any of circuits and actual hardware with the screwdriver. I did it this morning and every things seems fine except that firefox is acting up. Unto the question: I was wondering am I likely to see any damage done to my computer later on?Thank you

Answer:Magnetic Screwdriver

The connection between Firefox and your magnetic screwdriver should  be practically non-existant. What kind of problems do you have with Firefox?
