I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Answer: Satellite S50T-A Touchpad mouse stuck at scroll only

Your Satellite S50T-A seems to support a Touchpad with additional features like click pad with multi-touch control gestures supporting various scroll, zoom and launch functionalities at your fingertips.
You can disable this and other features in
Control panel -> mouse -> Device Setting tab -> Setting button

Here you can find a detailed step by step instruction how to disable such options

The light on the topleft of the touchpad has recently come on - I must have hit a key by mistake. I can't figure out how to switch it off.

It's annoying and it also seems to stop the touchpad from working.

Thanks a lot.

I presume you are writing about touchpad on/off indicator. It glows white when touchpad is off.
Double tab on this on this indicator will enable touchpad again and small light will be off.

Hello "Toshiba"

After the update for Windows 10 I have a problem with the touch pad does not work and became come boiling Forum and found out that the solution is to uninstall "ELAN Input Device" from "Device Manager", finally worked the touchpad but alas multi touch properties like: "zoom/minimise scrolling gestures and two-fingered" no longer work

Please help me solve this problem Toshiba company

Answer:Satellite S50T-B950 - touchpad is not working after Windows 10 Update

I can't give you the perfect answer.
Howver, I can share my road to success:

In Win 8.1 - uninstall the ELAN package. The touchpad will continue to work, at least basic pointer-move and click.
Upgrade to Win10
In Win 10, reinstall the Win 8.1 ELAN driver.

That worked for me.

I have a Satellite L750 (my first Laptop and first touchpad) running Windows 7. I have set the mouse scroll to 1 line at a time but every time I place the pointer on the right scroll bar down arrow (and press the left button or tap) the screen jumps so that the scroll bar is at the bottom. I want the screen to 'inch' down slowly as it would if I was using a mouse wheel.

Yes, I know that the answer is probably very easy so please, those folks that are itching to reply remember I am a 'newbie' at touchpads.

Answer:Satellite L750 - How do I scroll with the touchpad?

You can scroll with the touchpad on right side of it. Just move your finger up or down on the right side of touchpad and you can scroll with this gesture. It?s not complicated and very easy.
Furthermore such basic operations are described in user manual and I would recommend reading it. ;)

If you are not familiar with the touchpad you can also connect an external USB mouse (same mouse like on a desktop computer). Such external mouses are not expensive and you don?t need a driver for that. Just connect it to one USB port and it?s ready to use :)

Hi, like I said just turned on the laptop as usual, but for some reason now the Touchpad will not Scroll (but works to touch to click). And, the Bottom bar Disappears only when I am on the internet chrome (on chrome its gone, but still there on internet explorer, but who wants to use explorer!! lol).

It makes it so hard to click between research and writing! Its always there like it should be on word doc , excel etc.

Small things, but super annoying and I dont understand why the change, or how theyre connected. Would just like them fixed, its so silly it would just change on me.

Any help is much appreciated!!
Thanks, Jenna

The touchpad settings can be changed in control panel -> mouse
Here you have to go to last tab ?Advanced? and click on Advanced setting button.

Now you should get a menu with all options available for touchpad.
There should be a option called ?Use Scroll function?. This should be checked/enabled.

Check this!

Hi guys,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A210 on which I installed recently with Win XP SP3 and I have a problem with my Synaptics Touchpad. IT DOESN'T Scroll!!!

I tryed a few other drivers from Toshiba drivers page, synaptics homepage, old drivers and other... can anyone help pls with some other suggestions?
In mouse settings I dont even have other utilities other than the left/right buttons

Answer:Re: Satellite A210-11C (PSAEGE) - Can't scroll on touchpad

Did you activate the virtual scroll function in Synaptics driver?

You should check this because this feature must be enabled. Go to control panel => Mouse => Device Settings => Settings => Virtual Scrolling.

Therefore the Synaptics driver must be installed. I?m using the driver from the Toshiba website and don?t have any problems.

Hi guys,

in 2007 i bought my Toshiba Satellite A110-156, shortly after i got vista home from Toshiba as an present for my new Laptop.
All good, only my touchpad didn't scroll.

After a new driver version 703014, it works.
Only vista keeps naggin by the start up. I have to accept the drivers three times before it works.
Every time by a start up!

After a while, i finally found the solution - sadly enough - this weekend i had to reinstall my laptop en forgot what the solution was.
I have the same driver, version 703014 from the toshiba site and saddly the same problem.

I can't find the solution on the dutch sites, so i hope you can help me!

I already tried to install the drivers by de hardware programs, this didn't help!

Answer:Satellite A110-156 - touchpad doesn't scroll

Maybe you have to configure the touchpad again?

I think you will find the touchpad settings in control panel -> mouse.
There you have to search for the touchpad entry? I?m not sure if you have to got to the properties or settings but one of this option should be available to get advanced touchpad settings.

The A110-156 seems to be a PSAB0E series?
If you are using the Vista then you have to update the BIOS to the 5.20-WIN version because this BIOS is only for Vista usage!

Does this means that scrolling function is available after the installation of Win 7?

Hmm? for me it sounds like you would need to configure this touchpad function.
You can do this in control panel -> mouse -> device settings
There should be an additional tab containing all the touchpad options?

There you could change and increase the touch area which is needed for scrolling and similar? you could increase the sensitivity too?

Yes, the Satellite L500 supports virtual scrolling.

But therefore you need the touchpad driver, this feature is software based as on other notebook. It?s not a problem because the driver is already preinstalled and additionally you can download it on the Toshiba page. :)

Have fun with a new Satellite L500. Friend of me bought it too and it?s really great and the price is also good.

One day I realized I had lost pinch and scroll functions on my touch pad. Don't know why.
So I tried to install a Synaptics touch pad Driver. This provided the missing functions but the Cursor got delayed and the sensitivity of the touch pad was restricted to a certain spot. Therefore I de-installed the Synaptic Driver again.
The sensitivity issued got cured but I still had no pinch and scroll function on the touch pad.
Therefore I went to the Toshiba download site and learned that the ALPS Driver was the original Driver.
I tried to install this Driver (as requested for 64 bits).
The installation seemed to pass smoothly. After re-starting there is still no pinch and scroll functionality and nowhere the driver is found neither in the programs list nor added to the "mouse" Screen in the System functions Folder.

How can I get that pinch, zoom and scroll functions back to my touch pad?

Answer:Satellite L50-B - lost touchpad pinch and scroll functions

This sounds like program interference, you will need to perform a clean boot and disable firewall and antivirus and then try and install the driver. Here is a description on how to perform a clean boot,

The touchpad settings are placed in control panel -> mouse

the Alps touchpad driver for W8.1 that is currently supplied by Toshiba does not have an option to adjust the vertical scroll speed of the two finger gesture. With the default speed, even leaning the fingers downwards without moving them results in a scroll that is equivalent of PAGE_DOWN, e.g. way to fast. The version I use is the latest one from the website (

There is a registry entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Alps/Apoint that make the situation a bit more bearable (set ScrollLines to 1), but there is no way to adjust if further it in the settings or the registry

A newer Alps Driver (8.103.404.104) from another company has this option and scrolling works like it should on the lowest speed, but it does not support 2-finger rightclick.

Why does toshiba use an outdated driver that is missing this critical function? Is there a new driver available? Did anyone find a fix for this?

Answer:Satellite Z30 - Updated Touchpad Driver with adjustable scroll speed?

From my knowledge notebook manufacturers modify and adjust the own drivers.
The driver versions are always different and are not always comparable with driver versions released by other notebook manufacutrers.

As you said above:
the Alps driver released by Toshiba does not support the scroll speed but at the other hand it supports the 2-finger right click.
The other driver supports the scroll speed option but doesn?t support the finger right click.

Well it would nice to have an driver which would support all the mentioned options.
So I think we can just wait and hope that the next releases will support some more nice-to-have features?

My touchpad (Alps Ver. 7.0.302.8) looses the scroll function periodically when switching between web sites in Firefox.
Under "mouse properties" the graphic shows no activity for the scrolling activity.

It usually highlites the graphic when I touch the scroll area of the touchpad. I am at the latest driver ver., but have not tried removing & reinstalling it yet. Anyone know if this is likely a Vista (Vista Home Premium SP1) issue or an Alps driver issue?
I also occasionally lose my pointer settings, like speed, when awaking from sleep. Not sure of exact conditions when this happens though.

I have seen an issue with my wireless adapter not being recognized after after sleep.
For this, I must restart the computer & the device is reinstalled.
The problem with the touchpad did not occur for the first 2 weeks of use, but the wireless adapter problem started from day 2 or 3.

Oh, BTW, I also have a Logitech mouse (Ver. installed & Wacom ( driver installed.
I can do without the Wacom being installed at start, but I do want the Logitech mouse driver installed.

Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Satellite P305-S8828 touchpad loosing scroll function

Hey kev

We can discuss about this just if you use recovery image or ?factory settings?. You have installed third part driver and the Toshiba responsibility stops there. Nobody knows if there is some negative influence to Toshiba preinstalled driver.

If you want to have full touchpad functionality, use Toshiba stuff only. But if you want to use some external device with own driver or software you must live with it.

The driver is updated, the touchpad works normally most of the time, but from time to time (quite often) the vertical scroll (the bar on the right side of touchpad) stops reacting and it's impossible to scroll vertically. After a while it reactivates again and works normally again...

Starting to get frustrated with this laptop.

I'm having to resort to using a usb mouse to even get to the page, which something that I don't want to be doing.

The most will not move at all, it'll only let me scroll up and down (when sliding with one finger).

I've tried reinstalling the driver, to no avail.

I've had this laptop for about a year now, never had a problem until now.

It literally came out the blue. Searching on Google, it seems to be a well known issue, but there's not one solid solution to the issue, which is ridiculous.

The mouse only move if I'm holding down either the right click or left click button, which is useless to me.

Any help?

Answer:Satellite Mouse Pad will only let me scroll, cursor will not move.

I don’t know what notebook model you have exactly, but if you have some problems using the internal touchpad, i would recommend you to recheck the additional touchpad settings:
Control panel -> mouse -> last tab (click settings button)

If you will not find any settings related to this touchpad issue, please check if the touchpad isn’t disabled. Usually FN + F5 (in some cases FN + F9) would enable or disable the touchpad.

Last but not least the issue could be related to hardware malfunction but before talking about hardware issue, the notebook should be recovered to factory settings.

I am using a A300D-16C notebook. I have this wiered problem with the mouse pad. The right side of the mouse pad, which is used for scrolling on the page, stops functioning. This has happened many times and very often. But I am not able to trace out what exactly causes this problem. Each time it stops working, there are different activities.

A restart of the system will solve the problem and it will start working again. But I could not find out exact reason for the problem.

Hello, I got my new Lenovo Ideapad U410 (Windows 7) yesterday and I'm just starting to get things going. The one thing that has been bothering me is that I can't scroll uing the touchpad. Hi, since you got the laptop yesterday, did you install / uninstall any drivers? Or did the problem exist  right up? ?f the former please roll the driver(s) back. ?f the problem occured later on,you could do a system restore, if you have a restore point, or even since the system is so new,you could restore to factrory settings. after backing up. Otherwise please call Lenovo support, they'll advise you.

I have had this issue for some time, now.  Running Windows 8.1.  Bios gets updated regularly and just updated a few weeks ago.  I downloaded and re-installed the touchpad driver just in case.  But, I have this very odd issue that occurs often when I plug in a peripheral (usually my hasp device for embroidery software), or, simply randomly on its own:  My touchpad mouse cursor will go up to the upper left corner of my screen.  It will flicker, and I will also see odd images on my screen like bubbles or circles, and sometimes it appears that the cursor is trying to execute commands.  In order to fix this, I put the laptop to sleep, the re-awaken it, and the mouse behaves, again.  Very annoying and I cannot figure out how to fix this.  I never use an exeternal mouse, so not sure if this behavior would also occur with a mouse, but I am assuming it is the touchpad.  The last driver update for my laptop is dated for 2013, and it is the same driver I already had installed, but I did re-install it, in case somehow the install was corrupted.  Any ideas what is causing this, and how to fix it?

Answer:Envy 7 TouchSmart Laptop Touchpad Mouse Cursor Gets Stuck in...

Hi @hoosierquilt  I understand that your touchpad is behaving intermittently behaving erractically, normally when you plug in a USB peripheral. I am happy to help with this. Firstly, please post the full product number of your notebook. See the following, if you need help in finding that. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?I take it that you are referring to an external software security key (hasp), that you need to use, when this normally happens. What other devices do you use that also cause this to happen? Do you notice any other performance issues, slowness, lack of response, system freezes? From how you wrote your initial comment, I would assume that this did not always happen. Do you recall any specific change that may have been made to your system when it first started to occur? Some new software installed, or some update, change to the operating system, or some new hardware added to the system? How often does this problem occur when you do not plug in a USB device? It sounds like it happens as well, but does it take significantly longer to occur, or is it very rare to occur at all without a usb connection added? You mentioned updating the BIOS frequently, have you also updated the chipset driver, and others as well? For most HP notebook systems the usb controllers are a part of the chipset driver. For now take a look through this and see if anything helps.Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8)   ... In case of software issues you could use this option to load the default settings.

My friend Sherry bought a Satellite S50T-B pspq8a-00h008 laptop at Chrismas in Canberra and brought it back to China.

Now, she found the system cannot be activated via neither online nor by phone. when tried to activate online, she received a error message "0x800707b, The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." I helped her try several solutions but all failed with the same error code.

Here are all solutions we have tried:

1. roll back any changes for optimization purpose.
2. retype the product key by the following commands we found online:
slmgr /upk
slmgr.vbs -ipk xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
slmgr.vbs /ato
3. try to activate by phone, use the command "slui.exe 4", it appears "the system cannot be activated by phone"
4. restore the system. we are shocked by that the activation still doesn`t work.

by now, we don`t know what we can do to activate windows 8.1.
does anyone here could help us ?

Answer:Re: Satellite S50T-B - cannot activate preinstalled Win 8.1

It is really strange. Original recovery image preinstalled on your notebook contains valid product key so all you must do is to connect your machine to the internet.

When you wrote ?4. Restore the system? does it mean you have reinstalled original OS version and checked it one more time with ?factory settings??

I have never attempted to use the mic before now so I do not know if this is an issue which has always existed or only just occurred recently.

I have Windows 8.

The internal mic doesn't work I can see a microphone in my recording devices menu. There is currently one which is enabled and another one which says it isn't plugged in. This second microphone only appeared after I uninstalled the Conexant Smart Audio driver which was suggested on another forum.

I currently am using the Microsoft windows HD audio device driver and apart from this second unplugged microphone appearing in the sound menu. When using the sound recorded software sometimes I can hear a click and when I click on the sound menu the bar next to the microphone will fill.

I can't take the laptop back to where I brought it as I moved countries after buying it.

Answer:Satellite S50T-B - Internal Mic is not working

As I?m not mistaken the internal microphone belongs to the internal webcam.
From my understanding you will need to enable the webcam in the Windows settings

Open the Camera app. Point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Settings. Click Options. Here you can adjust the settings for each option.

As I?m not mistaken there you should be able to turn the microphone on or off.
Finally if you want to use this mic, you have to set it to default in sound ? recording device tab.

Hi there!

I upgraded my above Notebook to Windows 10 early April this year.
So far no problem. Everything worked fine. Everything.
Early last week Microsoft installed automatically some updates. I hate them for this way of "support".
From that minute no scolling either with the touchpad nor with the original Toshiba mouse possible.
Microsoft is not able to resolve the problem.
Any idea?

PS: Pls apologize my poor english but I didn't use it so much for some years.

I have a P-50 C laptop and since I upgraded to Windows10, I have been having problems with my mouse. If the pointer accidentally touches any link, it clicks automatically, without my wanting it. It is particularly irritating when I just leave apage without wanting to, because the pointer was pointing in that direction. I don't know how to solve this issue. I am not an expert in computers and would like a simple remedy for this.
Thank you all out there in advance!

I'm running Windows 8.1. After most recent Windows update and then restart, the computer froze at Toshiba splash screen. Fan went into overdrive and so I pushed power button.

Now, appears dead - no response from power button, black screen, no HDD sound. Only signs of life are power and battery leds on front of computer. Pushing and holding power button for more than 10 secs does nothing.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite S50T-A - power button not responding

The force shutdown switch (hole) is available at the bottom of the notebook.
In case of PC is freezing, not booting or has a power failure, which cannot be fixed by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds (force shutdown), please use the force shutdown switch

I found this info in this Toshiba FAQ document
[Force shutdown switch (hole) for models with a fixed main battery|]

An short feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone. Fairly new laptop (bought a manufacture refurbished version a month ago) which recently has been crashing in a really odd way when doing playing Dota 2. No BSOD or anything, just straight shuts down. What usually happens is I start up the game, get into gameplay (past title screen loading screen etc.), get 25-30 minutes into game and it crashes.

The strange thing is this only happens under a few conditions. The battery setting has to be set to high performance and the charger has to be plugged in. The crashes never happen when the machine is running on battery alone.

I've uploaded the event log if it helps(crash 41s are the unexpected shutdowns)

Answer:Satellite S50t-B crashes - BSOD issue

Sounds like it is overheating. Try removing the dust from the vent using compressed air.

Hi all...

I hope you can help. I bought my new Satellite in about October last year and from day one I've been experiencing problems connecting an additional monitor. Originally I had an old monitor with a VGA connection, and of course this computer only has HDMI.

So I bought an adaptor, which didn't work. I tried connecting my computer to the tv monitor with the HDMI cable to test it, but it still didn't work. It's still under warranty so I sent it back to Toshiba service, who couldn't find anything wrong with it, and returned it to me.

So I bought a brand new monitor, (a BenQ), and a brand new HDMI cable. Indeed for some reason it worked for a couple of months.and now doesn't. The computer won't detect the monitor, and the monitor says there is no cable plugged in when I attach it to the computer.

I've tried everything and it's driving me crazy.

Answer:Satellite S50T-B - HDMI port issues

The VGA-HDMI adapter will not work because HDMI provides digital signal and VGA (RGB) port supports analogue signal. You cannot mix both!

Anyway, back to your HDMI issue.
Please try this workaround:
First of all go to BIOS (F2) and set the BIOS back to default settings (F9) and save changes (F10).
Now connect the notebook and TV with an HDMI cable. Both units should be OFF during the connection.
Then power up the monitor and then the notebook.

As far as I know you have to use the function key: FN + F4 to switch to external or internal display.

Please check this!

My partner purchased a Satellite S50t-B probably 5-6 months ago, and everything was working perfectly, up until she had some windows updates that happened, and now the HID touch compliant drivers are seemingly disabled in device manager?

The touchscreen is no longer working, and i've just about exhausted all options i could think of.

I've tried reinstalling windows, applying any and all updates through service center, i cannot find any drivers for the touch screen on the support website downloads section, and the bios etc is all up to date.

I was hoping someone could shed some light on how to proceed with this issue, given the main reason she purchased it was the touch screen feature.

Thanks, Keegan

Message was edited by: keegz

Answer:Satellite S50t-B touchscreen no longer working

I have no idea what system you have installed, but if the notebook was equipped with the touchscreen, additional drivers for touchscreen are not necessary.
If touchscreen would work properly, the Windows (Win 8.1) should detect it automatically.

What Satellite S50t-B-ooo do you have excatly?
From my point of few the notebook should be set to factory settings just to check if its really an software related issue... so I'm wondering why you don't use the HDD recovery or recovery medium to set the notebook back to factory settings?

Satelite T130-10G Touchpad Screen Pointer gets stuck in random modes and the notebook must be restarted to restore functionality
Pressing the Center of "touchpad button's" rocker switch causes the touchpad pointer to enter a random state like the two finger zoom.

Sometimes it will revert back to normal but most time the computer must be put to sleep or restarted to restore functionality.

a. Tried turning off all touch pad functionality one item at a time and with everything off it still entered some wierd random state,
(Didn't try ever possible combination need $ to be that intrested but went to 90% level)

b. Tried disabling the offending touch pad buttons and only using tap mode for buttons and problem still persisted.

c. Finally tried flexing the whole keyboard instead of pressing the buttons and this also created the problem.

This leads me to believe either the rocker switch being pressed or flexing the whole keyboard is causing either

a. flexing of the touch pad causing the driver to enter a crazy state or require recalibration.

b. flexing the electrical connections causing the driver to enter a crazy state or require recalibration.

Note: I did reinstall the latest driver.
Also: On the Toshiba American support site this problem exists in may notebooks.

Also: The touch pad is overly sensitive making it very unusable!

Have you tried to install operating system and check touchpad functionality with ?factory settings??

Just had delivery of a new Tosh T110-107 which I have to say looks wonderful, however a problem. One bootup the touchpad works ok but as soon as I connect the USB mouse then neither work - making the system unusable, until I disconnect the mouse and reboot. SO what have I done to it?

Uninstalled McAfee and addded Norton 360 and Office (both originals) and thats it, the problem was found before anything was done - as it came out of the box.

Win7 Home Premium, never had problems with Win7 but then not used it on a laptop especially this model. Can only imagine its config/software but straight out of the box? Tosh must know there is a problem them - they have too, yet sold it?

ANyone else had this issue?

Hi there

Been having problems with the mouse and touchpad on the Satellite C850-19Z.
It cuts out after a while. I?ve tried the shortcut on the computer but to no avail. I have phoned Toshiba and they told me to refresh the laptop.

It worked then it has cut out again a few weeks later so tried what I went through with Toshiba guys and nothing happens...I need the laptop for work.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Mouse/touchpad is not working on my Satellite C850

It is really unbelievable that you have the same problem with touchpad and external mouse. What is more unbelievable for me is the fact that Toshiba guys were not able to help you with this.

I really don?t know what to suggest about that. Notebook has valid warranty so Toshiba service MUST help you with this. I don?t know if there is possibility for you to get replacement so you can continue your work but talk with service guys about that and try to find solution.

By the way: do you use external mouse with cable or wireless mouse?

I have had problems with my laptop since the beginning. The hard drive has failed and the mouse pad and keyboard have had intermittent problems since Day 1. They randomly stop working and will not work again until restarted.

Recently the mouse pad often stopped working prompting me to de-install the Synoptics driver for this device. I removed the device from the device manager and expected that when I restarted the windows driver would kick in. This was not the case. I have since reinstalled the driver which I got from this website and it is now not recognising the mouse from the Synoptics software. Only the USB mouse i plugged in worked and even then it often froze.

I have tried a soft reset of the laptop wiping my settings and more recently a factory reset. I do believe this is purely a software problem.

The mouse is still not working. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Laptop is L850D-12P.

All help is much appropriate.

Answer:Touchpad Mouse is not working on my Satellite L850D-12P

> I have tried a soft reset of the laptop wiping my settings and more recently a factory reset. I do believe this is purely a software problem.

The point is that in case of software problems, the Toshiba recovery disk should fix your touchpad and keyboard issues. Therefore I think that this issue is NOT caused by software problem.

You mentioned that you had these problems from first day of purchase? hmm? I?m wondering why you did not contact the authorized service provider or a notebook dealer for a fix.
New devices are covered by warranty and in case of any hardware malfunction; the warranty covers the repair procedure.

My solution: you can try to recover the notebook once again. Use the original Toshiba recovery disk. Check also if the BIOS is up to date.
Note: touchpad should work even if the additional Synaptics touchpad driver isn?t installed. Why? The touchpad is controlled by default Microsoft driver and common touchpad functions like touching and scrolling are available by default. Synaptics touchpad driver adds some more functionality and features to the touchpad.

Answer:Satellite L650D - touchpad / mouse problem

Go to control panel → mouse → Device settings (last tab) → Settings button
Now you should access the Synaptics touchpad settings.

There you can modify different touchpad options and enable touchpad features like for example Virtual scrolling, pointer motion, sensitivity, tapping and others…
I would recommend you to go through the single items and to check whether one of the options would provide you a settings to change this touchpad behaviour.

Hello everyone,

I have a Toshiba Satellite CL10-B-100 updated to the latest versions of Windows (before the update at 10, not yet executed) and the latest versions of the BIOS reported the utility "Toshiba Service Station."

Since the last BIOS update touchpad mouse began to malfunction: the pointer moves from time to time, remaining mostly stopped at a point of the screen. Swiping your finger on it are selected parts of the screen as icons and other windows but without that this corresponds to a clear selection and physical movement of the pointer.

I could see that this happens regardless of whether or not the power supply on, or by the fact that there are USB devices inserted.
But I can use the pointer using a mouse that I have to enter into a USB port that is so busy although I could avoid!

Because it seems to me that the problem is created after you install the latest BIOS version reported by Toshiba, what can I do to fix it? The PC is still under warranty.

PS: when I use the touchpad mouse utility in this trysystem windows "Synaptics Pointing Device" indicates that is being used with a green dot.

Now I would remind that this text has been automatically translated by Google Translate from Italian ...

Thanks for the assistance,
Good day!

I just had my new W530 delivered yesterday, unfortunately with Windows 8 Professional. I noticed that the cursor would not move when I moved my finger across the touchpad or the cursor was "stuck" until I tried a repeat movement with my finger.   I adjusted almost every setting on the latest lenovo driver which provides for windows 8 screen gestures.   The responsiveness to windows 8 gestures does not appear that good, but it is a story for another post.  The main reason for my post is that vertical scrolling barely works in IE 10.I have all the smart check items disabled and the palmcheck lowered to 3.   I've got the touch sensitivity to light, but have also tried heavy.   I have to push like I'm trying to crack the case to get the cursor to move up and down, and often I will touch the right side of the touchpad and nothing happens or it takes a few tries of swiping to get the window to move up or down.    I called two support agents and the first one reminded me I have 30 days to return the unit for a refund, and the second guy had me update the driver with the lenovo update  utility which showed the same version as the one I downloaded and installed.  It made no difference.   He then suggested that if I keep the laptop, the trackpad needs replacing. From looking at some other posts, I really wonder if the pad could be ok, but lenovo is actually selling this thing with a trackpad that performs that poorly. &nb... Read more

Answer:Touchpad vertical scroll horrible or touchpad defective

On the W520, the two finger scrolling is unusable, it just randomly jerks the window, or not. Tried every trick in the book when I first got my W520, after a couple of months of wasting time gave up and only use it with a mouse. The W520 has the worst trackpad in the history of computing devices (and the worst mic and speakers, or at least worst drivers). If you need a working touchpad, dont by a Lenovo W series.

I just bought my A660 07P last Saturday 15/9/10 and I noticed that I was having problems with the mouse pointer using the touchpad.

From time to time, the cursor/mouse pointer is locked and something like an up-and- down button would appear.
I presumed that it is because it is on a waiting mode but this happens like every 5 minutes.
When it is locked it will also change the zoom percentage when the touchpad is tapped. It is very incovenient when I'm in the middle of something and I cannot move the pointer around. In addition, start-up is really slow.

Btw, I haven't installed any programs or applications yet. I'm still testing up to Friday or else I'll return it to where I bought it.

Hey guys again!

When I set up a new operation system sometimes (vista, 7) I always installed the Synaptics Pointing Device. And then, my Genius Ergo 725 Laser mouse driver was installed.
After these steps I turned on the "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" in Synaptics, so when I used my mouse, the touchpad didn't work, and when I disconnected my mouse I could use the touchpad. It?s normal I know.
It worked fine for a few weeks as I connected and disconnected.

BUT now
when I disconnect my mouse, I can't use my touchpad, it's simply not working, and if I connect my mouse again, my mouse doesn't work too. So I can't use my touchpad & mouse, just navigate with keyboard. I tried to uninstall & reinstall Synaptics and genius drivers, but nothing.

Also when this happens, I just restart my computer but when it's "shutting down" it freezes and doesn't restart or shut down. So I have to push the power button for a few sec.
If I don't disconnect my mouse while my OS running, or don't connect my mouse while OS is running, I can shut down and restart computer normally....
Now I have Windows 7 x86, but it happened with my Vista x86 too...

Strange problems, but I hope you can help!
Thanks forward.

This is a first time that I meet such issue?
I think it?s a OS issue? maybe something has been muddled up? updates? who knows?

I think firstly you should try to remove the touchpad drivers and software from the system and should clean the registry. I clean my registry using the CCleaner. It?s free tool.

After registry has been cleaned, reinstall the needed touchpad drivers and check if you can use the touchpad.

I have a Toshiba Satellite running Vista Home Basic.
Recently I had a catastrophic failure of Windows and had to install it from scratch.

Before the failure, I had found some setting (well hidden) which disabled the touchpad automatically whenever an external USB mouse was plugged in.
But left it working whenever the mouse was unplugged.

Can anyone help me? (It had nothing to do with the Synaptics driver, which doesn't allow for this.)

Answer:Satellite A100-033: Disabling touchpad when USB mouse was conencted

I can enabled and disable this function in my control panel -> mouse settings

In mouse settings I choose ?Device Settings? tab and there I can mark the option called ?Disable internal pointing device when eternal USB pointing device is attached?.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite E45t-B4204 Ultrabook. I guess that 60-70% of the time when I wake the computer up the touchpad does not work. No cursor input. It's running windows 10 on a SSD HDD. I leave it on and only turn it off (restart) if there is an issue. I've had this laptop for about 2 years now and always had this issue. It came with windows 8. I upgraded to 10 when it was available. I've actually reinstalled windows numerous times to try to correct this issue. I've also reinstalled the touchpad drivers many times. I even tried replacing the physical touchpad by buying a new cover that comes with the touchpad. Nothing is working. Any other suggestions? Look for a new laptop?

Well after hours of trying allsorts, i'm posting here....

Been handed the laptop for repair as the touchpad has stopped responding. No problem 'i thought', just plug another usb mouse in to help me get around and re-install the touchpad.. what a joke.

Right, the USB mouse is recognised as a hid device and working, according to device manager, but not when you move it.. nothing ...
The Touchpad is listed as a Synaptics ps/2 touchpad and reports a Code 10 in the mouse section of device manager along with the usb mouse listed as a hid and fully functional.

Right.. i have ..
Listed all devices, even those hidden nonpresent (devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices) and removed every single account of any mice, touchpads etc..
uninstalled the synaptics software through the programs control panel.
Rebooted the laptop, and it starts with the touchpad being listed again as a code 10 with windows version drivers.
Updated drivers using two different files from Toshiba for the touchpad, Still Code 10
The USB mouse still does not work either.

Somebody please enlighten me on a fix for this...

Answer:Satellite L300 - Vista - Touchpad and USB mouse not responding.

That?s really strange buddy because normally an update of the touchpad driver should solve the issue.

Anyway, have you already tried to use the Toshiba recovery disk? Maybe it?s just a software issue and some important Windows files are destroyed or don?t work properly. Reinstalling Windows using the Toshiba recovery disk takes only few minutes and there are already all drivers and tools integrated. With these settings (factory settings) the touchpad should work properly and if not the touchpad or mainboard must be replaced maybe.

Is it possible to configure the M30 so that it automatically switches off the touchpad, when I plug in a usb mouse?

Thank you

Sorry but this option is not known to me. It can be disabled manually using FN+F9 key combination.

I have a P200-144, with the Synaptics touchpad.
I also have a Toshiba bluetooth mouse (the little mini one, useful for travelling, don't know the model number).

The problem is the difference in sensitivity between these two: for the touchpad, I need the pointer speed at about 80-90% in the Mouse control panel in Windows (Vista Home Premium); for the bluetooth mouse, it needs to be down about 20%.

This makes using these two devices at the same time annoying as you have to adjust the sensitivity when changing between them (which, considering they're both Toshiba devices, you would've thought they'd consider the synergy).

Is there anyway to control the sensitivity per device?

Answer:Touchpad and bluetooth mouse sensitivity on Satellite P200-144

As far as I know you can configure the touchpad and the mouse settings independent from each other.

The touchpad settings should be configured in:
*Control panel -> mouse -> device settings -> settings*

There you could choose the single options which you would like to change.

Good Evening

My neighbor's touchpad doesn't work.
She tried an external mouse and I tried a different external mouse.
No luck with either

Any Ideas?
We tried it in Safe mode also and no luck.
We tried System Restore but no luck either.

Thanks In Advance.

Answer:Satellite C660D-19X -Touchpad or external mouse not working

> We tried System Restore but no luck either.

By ?System Restore? do you mean the Recovery procedure?
Did you use the Toshiba Recovery disk or Toshiba HDD recovery in order to set the notebook back to factory settings?

> She tried an external mouse and I tried a different external mouse.
I?m wondering about this issue? I assume you have connected an USB mouse to this notebook and you could not move the cursor using such external USB mouse.
Is it correct?

In my opinion even if the touchpad would not work or would be disabled, the external USB mouse should function because both devices are not related to each other.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated

Model PSPQ8A-00H008.

The laptop was set to auto-update when turning off. I turned it off at about 8:30pm and the screen message stated "installing update 1 of 34. Do not turn off computer". I checked again at about 11:00pm and the same message was there. I let the computer run over night and at about 9:00 am it still stated "installing update 1 of 34.

Do not turn off computer".

I turned off the computer, waited about 5 minutes and turned it back on. The initial Toshiba start screen appeared and then changed to a range of characters, some geometric, some mathematical, some from other scripts.
I turned it off and tried again. Same result.

I removed the battery, waited, then reinserted the battery.
I re-entered the general data (time/date) and security data (entered new passwords).

I restarted the computer. Same result.
Advice please.

Satellite S50T-B, Windows 8.1. Every time my laptop sleeps, it moves all the icons and open windows off the secondary external monitor onto the laptop's monitor. As a dual-screen aficionado, this is extremely annoying. I keep having to set up my workspace.

I expect that there is a bug in the video driver which means that it sees the monitor powering down as a result of the laptop's "sleep" command as "monitor unplugged" and reports this to the OS so the OS moves all the icons and windows onto the primary screen, so when I power up again, they are all in the wrong place.

It should know that the disappearance of the monitor as a direct consequence of it being sent a sleep command should not be interpreted in any way other than the monitor going to sleep as it was told.

The graphics driver is way old... when can we expect an update?
When am I going to be able to see a fix for this frustrating issue?

Answer:Windows move to primary screen when Satellite S50T-B sleeps

If you would google for this issue, you would find lot of threads and information about this system behavior.

From my point of few this issue is related to the sleep mode state. There are different sleep mode states (S0, S1, S2, S3, S4)

S3 mode is typically the default Standby/Sleep mode, while S4 is usually the default Hibernate mode.
Here all the details:

You can use the PowerCfg command to modify these settings

Win 10, was working for a long time. Sometime in the last few months it stopped. Haven't been able to get it going again.

In System information it says no Touch Input is available.

In Device Manager it shows if you select to show hidden devices, but it says it is not connected. I uninstalled this, but at some point it returned, but now I did uninstall again and it doesn't show.

Everything seems up to date.

Not to keen on doing system reset.

Any suggestion appreciated.

Satellite A350 Touchpad doesn't work ok (system instable and button left non responsible).

I've tried to actualize the driver but nothing. No problems of drivers (conf system). I've stroped the touchpad driver and with external mouse everything works properly.

What must I do? Do you think it's hard or soft the problem. *The touch pad does NEVER worked.*

Thanks a lot, et sorry for my bad English. :-(

Answer:Satellite A350 - Touchpad isn't working but external mouse works

Can you enable it using Fn+F9 ?

The Touchpad may be faulty, so if you cannot get it working yourself, you should send the laptop to an ASP for warranty repair.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C875D-S7120 to fix. It has Windows 8. The touchpad and mouse buttons do not respond at all. They quit accepting input without warning. Device Manager and msinfo32 show no errors and Device Manager says the device is working properly. I have tried the Fn + F5 to turn off, then back on, and that has no effect. I tried 2 older drivers. Both installed correctly but did not fix the problem. I have 3 spare scrap Toshiba Satellite laptops, a C655-S5225, a Pro L550-EZ1702, and a C855D-S5305. All 3 have the same Synaptics touchpad, the part numbers match. I swapped in each of them and tested. That still did not solve the problem. Is it maybe a problem with the touchpad connector on the motherboard? The system is otherwise fine and works properly and a USB mouse works.

Answer:Satellite C875D-S7120 Touchpad, Mouse Buttons Failure

If none of the touchpads work then I would say it is the connector on the motherboard
