Preferred Solution: Some questions about Satellite U920t-100

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Some questions about Satellite U920t-100

So many different questions? so let?s start with the first one.

>can i simple install windows 8 professional over the current installation?

Read this Toshiba FAQ document. It provides all answers and an detailed instruction.
[How to upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD2B03F20002R01.htm]

>what about the driver's, toshiba installed software and others?
Windows 8 uses the same drivers like Pro

>What about the display when i run the u920t with an external monitor ?
What do you mean exactly? You can use internal display, external display or both at the same time

>I want buy me the Toshiba PA3927E-1PRP Dynadock U3
>is that a good idea for that?

Why not. Dynadock U3 supports own GPU therefore you could use 3 displays at the same time

Hi guys,

my girlfriend ordered a Toshiba Satellite U920T-100 about three months ago, and she has had problems with it since. We are not quite sure what causes them, because they seem to happen at random.

The issues are:
- It starts, but freezes at the Win8 Login with a blue screen (a rather warm blue, not the blue screen of death)
- It won't start at all, only after few attempts
- It won't shutdown
- It freezes while organizing files (e.g. copying files from A to B, but not even large amounts of files)

Again: those issues seem to be appearing completely at random, I wasn't able to reproduce them in any way.

Additionally: the WLAN connectivity is really bad.
The laptop isn't able to find networks, while my laptop has no problems with it.
And when it does find them and connects, the connection gets lost - again: no clue why.

This surprises me the most, because in the tests and reviews I've read the connectivity got praises everywhere.

Should I factory reset it?
Run through some specific tests?
Or is is hopeless, because there're so many issues with it?

I would appreciate your help!

Answer:Some issues with Satellite U920T-100

Hi

>Should I factory reset it?

I think you should do that because the described issue can be related to system problems as well as hardware issue (i.e HDD). The factory recovery helps you to check if its software or hardware related problem.

Usually all software (system) problems could be solved by recovery process. Hardware problems would continue.

So from my point of view, system recovery is the first step you should try to perform in order to solve the issue.
In case this does not help, an hardware issue (HDD or RAM) can be possible and since the notebook is still covered by warranty, I would recommend you to contact the service in order to check the unit.

Hope my advice could help you a little bit

Impossible to use it normaly actually.

Thank you !

Answer:How does GPS works on the Satellite U920T?

Hi

The inclusion of a GPS is a nice feature for road warriors ;) but the point is that you?ll need to tether the U920T to your phone, due to the lack of cellular data connectivity.

Hello someone can hepl me?

I can?t use my webcam, it doesn?t works.

When i go to device administrator in the image devices I haven't any webcam, and I have a unknown device but it can't search the correct driver in internet,

Where is the webcam driver in the Toshiba support section?
I think this is the problem but could be another one.

Can someone help me?
Thanks

Answer:Satellite U920T - webcam is missing

Hi dude

What system do you use?

As far as I know the Satellite U920T where preinstalled and delivered with Windows 8

The webcam software is not available for Windows 8 because the system contains and provide an own webcam driver. This means that webcam should be recognized automatically.

Feedback is much appreciated.

Hello, I need to be able to connect my U920T to VGA projector for presentations. I bought an HDMI to VGA adaptor which works fine for the video but not the audio. Is there a setting I can change to force to laptop to use to internal speakers rather than output through the HDMI?

Answer:Satellite U920T connecting to VGA projector

>I bought an HDMI to VGA adaptor which works fine for the video but not the audio

VGA port/cable does not support audio. You can send only video signals.
To get audio signal you would need to connect the notebook to the projector additionally using an audio cable.
Maybe you could connect the notebook?s headphone jack with projectors audio IN port (if available)

Hi,

My display settings say: generic pnp monitor with a driver date of 2006. Updating the display settings does not change this.
What is the proper display driver for this laptop and how can i change it?

Answer:Old display driver for Satellite U920T-10J

Proper display driver you can find on Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
There you can find last and tested drivers.
All drives offered there are part of original recovery image when you get notebook with preinstalled operating system.

Hello together,

i have been using nice nice device now since a few weeks and starting to get troubles with it.

I have the problem that randomly the touchscreen get without any function, i can touch the screen
however i want but without any reaction.

It just starts without starting any applications or anything before, i just browsing in the web and from one second to another.

If i restart the PC, everything is working normal again, i still using the drivers that were pre-installed and did not any changes to the Drivers so far.

Any suggestions what could cause this issue ?

Kind Regards

Answer:Satellite U920T-10G - touchscreen without any function

Hi

In my opinion an process which controls the touchscreen hangs or does not response anymore and therefore you cannot get the touchscreen function to work.

Would recommend to reinstall the +Toshiba System Driver+ from Toshiba EU driver page.
If this does not help try the system recovery and test the unit with factory settings.

Hi,

I just purchased the U920T-11C a few days ago.
I like it but there a few issues they are putting me off and make me want to return it.

The first issue is the loud fan noise that comes on. Is there anyway to turn this off?

It happens about 15 mins into using the web and then goes on and off every 5 mins or so. It is really loud and being in quiet room it is noticeable.

Is there anything I can do to stop this? I am only using the web and not running any other programs.

Also I have noticed the touchscreen fails to respond for no particular reason. I don't know if there is a pattern but it is frustrating when it just stops for no reason and then sometimes just works again.

Looking at these forums it seems like it is a common problem with the Toshiba. I have a few days before I can return so if these are not solved I think I might just go form the Samsun ATIV Book 9 Lite instead.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite U920T-11C fan noise and touchscreen fails sometimes

> It happens about 15 mins into using the web and then goes on and off every 5 mins or so. It is really loud and being in quiet room it is noticeable.

I assume the noise is coming from the fans which need to run faster in case the internal temperature would increase.
What you could do is to change the cooling module performance in single power plan.
You could also decrease the CPU performance. This would lead to smaller heat dissipation and the fans would slow down.

> Also I have noticed the touchscreen fails to respond for no particular reason. I don't know if there is a pattern but it is frustrating when it just stops for no reason and then sometimes just works again

You could try to calibrate the digitizer
Go to control panel (Windows key + X -> control panel) -> ?Tablet PC setting?.

The first tab ?Display? contains options like ?Configure the pen and touch display?.
Here you should be able to start Setup and to identify the touch screen.

The first option should contain ?1 internal LCD?
At the bottom you could find button to calibrate and reset the settings for this internal LCD.

But it could be also an hardware malfunction. I cannot say for sure why this happens but maybe an technician should take a look on the hardware.

Since 2 weeks my microfone dont work in skype.
Also my touchscreen dont working.

How to pepair?

Answer:Satellite U920T-10J: microphone and touchscreen not working

Regarding the touchscreen issue:
Does it happen while the screen is pushed up?

I read about the similar issue in different thread and this problem could be related to lose connection.

But check firstly this workaround:
1. Window+run
2 .type services.msc
3. go to Human interface device access
4. right click --->property---->start up type----->automatic (delay start)

But if this will not work, the issue could be caused due to hardware malfunction and such kind of issues must be fixed by authorized service provider.

Regarding the internal mic issue:
Please check if internal mic appears in control panel – sound – recording device
Check also whether all recording device are enabled. Click right and ensure that both options “show disabled devices” / “show hidden devices” were marked.

Also the Skype sound settings should be checked. The internal mic should be chosen as default mic.

Hello,

I have a new U920t-102 which I am very happy with, but I have this issue with the mousepad's right click (meaning the 'button' the user is able to press on the bottom-right side of the mousepad): sometimes it actually works as a right click, sometimes it works as a left click.
This is annoying especially during web navigation: I'm used to right click on links and open them in a new tab, but when the right click acts as left, I loose the current web page.

I tried to figure out what this behaviour depends on, looking at the animated synaptic icon in windows' tray bar while playing with the left and right click; if I continuosly press the right click button on the mousepad, after some repetitions it will consistely and correctly work as right click, but if press the left click once or more than once, the right click button works as left click for some pressures, and then 'corrects' itself and start again to work correctly.

Any idea/suggestion? is it a hardware problem?

Marco

Answer:Satellite U920t-102 touchpad right click issue

Usually the touchpad right / left click can be configured in the Synaptics settings.
Right click on Synaptics icon in tray and point to devices properties.
In buttons tab you will be able to choose right handed scheme or left handed.
Here you could choose the scheme appropriate for you.

You can also try to uninstall the Synaptics touchpad driver and could test the touchpad functionality without the usage of additional touchpad software.

But if this doesn’t help, your might have hardware problem

The touch screen on my Satellite U920T does not work since a couple of days back.
I cannot find any settings for touch or any touch device (apart from the touchpad) in the device manager.

I'm unsure exaclty when it started to malfunction.
I installed the Windows 8.1 some months ago and had some problem with the wireless card in the beginning, but the issue with the touch screen just appeard this week.

Which Toshiba driver controls the touch screen?
Is this a hardware or software issue?

Answer:Satellite U920T - Touch screen not working

Hi

To be honest there are no special drivers to control the touchscreen.
The driver is provided by Windows system.

I think you should recover the notebook back to factory settings but I?m afraid this will not solve the issue. It smells like hardware related problem since I found some threads here in this forum about the touchscreen malfunction and mostly the issue could be solved by service agents.

By the way: Before running the recovery process try to configure the pen and touch display.

I hope this part of your message is just a result of frustration due to the notebook malfunction...

Back to your issue:
> I have already tried everything posted elsewhere in this forum.
?and what does this mean? What did you try exactly?
Did you system reset and factory settings?

If not try it and in case this does not help you the notebook?s hardware might be affected which requires further hardware checks by authorized service engineer

hello everyone
I have upgraded to win 10 on my notebook & since then I lost the touch ability of my screen, it's working now as a regular display monitor.
I've been searching for many weeks on the net for a solution but I realized that Toshiba doesn't care about solving the issue so anyone have reached a solution? it seems to be a driver or a software issue related to win 8.1 & 10.

Answer:Satellite U920T touchscreen does not work using Windows 10

Hi there.

Same as Dr. Joe.... I also upgraded to Windows 10 and lost touch screen and also camera. I reverted to Windows 8.1 and I still have no Touch Screen. I appear to have lost my HID Touch Screen drivers as well.

Anybody got any thoughts on how to restore the touch screen drivers? I can't find them in the Toshiba driver download section after hours of research.

Answer:Satellite U920T-11C: How to insert additional RAM modules?

The Satellite U920T memory is not user upgradable. This means that if you would like to upgrade the memory, you should contact a Toshiba authorized service provider for assistance.
In case you would try to disassemble the notebook by youself, you would lose the warranty validity.

But from my knowledge the Satellite U920T series supports only ONE memory slot and only one memory module (max 8GB RAM) can be installed. So even if you would like to upgrade the memory, you are limited to 8GB RAM.

Error BSOD Toshiba U920T card reader and Windows 8.1

Whenever I do a Scan, Format, Copy or Delete operation on my internal SDCARD I receive this error.
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED or FAT_FILE_SYSTEM,

I have tested everything, all drivers are updated and it happens even with laptop in safe mode.

I even experimented with SDCARD formatted with Fat32, exFat and with NTFS.

This happens with the internal reader, if I use an external SDCARD reader connected to USB, there isn?t any problem, so there is no physical problem with cards.

I use 2 SD, one with 128GB and the other with 32GB.

If 32GB inserted, I do a disk>properties>scan and comes the BSOD saying FAT_FILE_SYSTEM without number

If 128GB inserted, I do a scan and comes the BSOD saying KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED no number

Anyone has any idea or my internal card reader needs to go guarantee?

Answer:Satellite U920T - SD card reader error

It looks like the internal SD card reader does not handle the inserted cards properly.
According to the notebook specifications (user manual) the card reader supports the SD card, SDHC and SDXC cards.

The card reader supports
SD cards up to 8GB
SDHC card (4GB/8GB/16GB/32GB)
SDXC card up to 64GB

I have just purchased a Satellite U920T. It is running very slow internet speeds. Speedtest generally shows between 1 and 2mbps. I have tried other laptops sitting next to it I can get speeds of 18-20mbps.

Is there a driver upgrade that will fix this or is there a hardware fault that will need repair?

Answer:Satellite U920T/01Y - very slow internet speed

Hardware fault?
I doubt?

First of all it would be interesting to know what connection do you use? Lan or WLan?

Secondly: was the notebook connected to the AC adaptor or its running with battery power?

Thirdly: the internet speed depends on the internet connection, server and all the devices which shares the same line? so if more notebooks and other devices are connected to the same router, the data throughput might be lower?

The screen has stopped working on a relatively new U920t. It displays in second screen mode on the TV but the actual screen does not light up at all in either laptop or tablet mode.

Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite U920T screen has stopped working

> It displays in second screen mode on the TV but the actual screen does not light up at all in either laptop or tablet mode.

This means that there is nothing wrong with the graphic chip on the motherboard but probably the connection between the display and motherboard isn?t OK or maybe the internal display malfunctions.

Fact is that this is a hardware problem and you should contact the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country to get it fixed.
If warranty is valid, the notebook should be repaired free of charge.

Hello

i have following Problem with my U920T. The sound with the built-in speakers is perfekt, but if i use headphones the sound gets very quiet nearly unhearable.
I tested several headphones und different settings of the software. I also tried installing all Windowsupdates and the driver updates incl BIOS from the Toshiba homepage nad drivers from realtek.
Now i reinstalled Windows but the problem still exists.
I still thinks is a driver problem but have no idea what to do now.

I hope for fast help

Answer:Satellite U920T - sound with headphones quiet and distorted

That?s really strange but I think there is problem with some wrong settings.
I don't know how do you test your headphones but make some test with browser player.
Open Internet Explorer and open this test page. Start for instance my favourite In the Mix radio and when music runs click with left mouse button on speaker icon and open option Mixer.
Your IE will be listed there. You can move volume level for speakers but for IE too.
Set both of them on the 50% and check if the problem persists.

I use headphones pretty often but I?ve never noticed such problem.
Please test it and send some feedback.

I have a Satellite U920t.

When I powered up this morning, Windows displayed a message "Keep your PC on until this is done. Installing update I of 5...".

This status stayed on for ages, in fact, I left it on for hours hoping that it was a large update file, I even went out shopping and when I got back home, it was still displaying the same.

I tried pressing ALT-DEL, but nothing happened. I then powered the PC down, left it for a few minutes and powered it back up, but the PC just came straight back up with the same update message!!!

I also noticed that after the PC was supposedly powered off, the system drive LED would blink on and off intermittently as though it is actually still running or locked.

Bearing in mind that this PC uses solid state SSD drive, and I have no way to remove power from the unit completely, I suppose that I am actually not turning the process off.

Can anyone tell me how I can get this PC out of this loop and get my PC back working again please?

I tried looking up the web on another PC, but all the information seems all over the place.

I presume that this is really a Microsoft issue, but I would really love to know how to get back into my PC again.

Regards
Tony

Answer:Satellite U920t: Win update - Unable to reboot even when power off/on

Hi

Did you try to press and hold the power button 4 seconds long?
Usually this should interrupt the loop process.

Try also this:
Power up the unit and press F12 button. Now you should see an boot menu where you could choose certain devices. Last option should be HDD recovery.

Chosing this HDD Recovery option would allow you to reset the system back to the factory settings.
Check it out!

Hi Folks,

is there some one who has WIDI working? AFAIC there was a WIDI Symbol in Device Manager @W7, after upgrading to W8.1 there is no way to get it work.

Trying to use Intel Display Driver fails because customized toshiba Driver, the latest Toshiba Driver is dated with 28.10.2013 that should be an early W8.1 Driver if not W7.

Is this something like the Broadcom GNSS Feature? Build in but still not usable?

Answer:Satellite U920T-100 PSUL1E - WIDI is not working after Win 8.1 upgrade

Hi

According to Toshiba information which I found in the technical support bulletin document, the Intel Wireless Display is no longer supported on Windows 8.1, but you may be able to connect to external display wirelessly, if your computer supports Miracast?.

Here the link to the doc:

Important notice for users of Wireless Display (WiDi)
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB3903IF0000R01.htm

By the way: the Intel display driver can be installed and updated but you have to do that within the device manager. You have to download an zip package containing single driver files and then you could update the driver using the advanced procedure within the device manager which allows you to choose the driver folder containing the single files.

Hi Forum,

I am new here and am having a problem I can't solve by my own, so am asking for help.
I am using a Toschiba Satellite U920T-100 since more than a year.

Since around 1 week, once I slide up the display to have access to keyboard, the touchscreen does not work anymore. Once folded (keyboard hidden) touchscreen works.
I downloaded most of the drivers, re-istalled, even did a "set back" to cancel last Windows Update... etc.

Trying to modify touchscreen settings under control panel, I receive a message "touch- and pen settings are not available. contact pc-manufacturer (error = 0)"

Does anybody have an idea what to do?

Ane more, but might not be connected to the problem above: Under device manager, "INTEL WiUSB" entry shows a yellow exclamation mark.

Would be great if someone could help. Thanks!

Cheers

Answer:Satellite U920T - Function keys not working after update to Win 10

The problem is that Satellite U920T isn’t listed as Win 10 supported unit and therefore the Win 10 Toshiba drivers and software which controls the FN keys isn’t released.
But as far as I know to use the FN keys, the Toshiba System driver as well as Flash Card Support Utility must be installed.

For all Toshiba Win 10 supported units, the drivers can be downloaded from this page:
http://win10upgrade.toshiba.com/swup...spx?region=TEG

Maybe you could try the drivers released for other Win 10 supported notebook models…
I’m not quite sure if the software will be fully compatible with your U920T model but its definitely worth a try…

Hi there,
Today my laptop (windows 8.1) ran out of battery. Later when it was charged again, only a black screen with a cursor appears. Additional the power button does not work. When I press the power button the laptop does not shut down nor boot again, just the black screen with the cursor appears again. Alt+Ctrl+Del does not work either... I don't know what I can do else. Can anybody solve this problem?
Thank you very much for your help

Answer:toshiba satellite u920t black screen with cursor

Press and hold the power button - does it turn off and on again ?
if so do three times in quick succession - this should trigger the repair your computer screen - select start up repair - see if this solves the problem.
If you can't get to that point do you have a windows DVD?

Hello there,

Since yesterday the touchscreen is not working when the Satellite u920T is in laptop position. When I put the Satellite u920t is in tablet position it works. All the two years before the touchscreen also worked in laptop position (keyboard slided out)
Can you solve this?

Greetings,

Hello everybody,

I just bought a "half" of an U920T: a laptop without the display(which was literally ripped off, you could see the bent hinges and what is left of the cable).
It's a great piece of hardware and I can use it with an external monitor, thanks to the HDMI connection.

What is the problem?
I only get video signal on the HDMI display, when windows(10) is loaded.

What do I want?
I would very much like to access the bios settings and set the primary output to HDMI, if possible.

I have already tried:
- removed the display cable from the mainboard
- using the F4 and the Fn+F4 to switch between displays. (it only works in windows)
- using the Toshiba System Settings Windows App. (there is no "video output" setting there)

Would any of you who have a similar model be so kind as to:
1. Check their bios to see if the option is available?
2. Upload a picture with the location of this setting in bios, or even better a video?

Thank you!!
Stefan

This morning i turned on my U920T-10J but the screen stayed black.

At first I thought the screen was broken but in "tablet mode" the screen went on. Now when i want to slide out the keyboard the screen goes black again.

How can this problem be solved?

Answer:Satellite U920T - screen turns black when sliding out the keyboard

Hi

For me it looks like a loose connection somewhere between the display and the motherboard.
This might be possible reason for display blackouts while sliding in and out.

I guess this cannot be solved easily and I think this is a job for an technician (authorized service provider). I recommend you to contact the service technician in your country to get the notebook fixed. Hopefully the warranty is still valid in order to fix it free of charge.

I hope this can be fixed?. I keep finger crossed.

Hi everyone, I'd really like to get some help here.

My relatively new Satellite U920T-10G blacks out for no reason. I turned it on as tablet and when I pulled the keyboard, it just went black. At first, when I hid the keyboard the screen will just work again but now it is just not working anyway (eventhough I see its on!) Iam sure I must be missing something as this did not happen in the couple of months Ive been using it.

Thank you in advance!!!

Hi Claudia

I don?t have this machine and cannot say what the problem can be. Try to roll back OS to earlier time when it worked just to see if this will help. If not try to reinstall OS using recovery image installation and test it with ?factory settings?.

The internal SSD-Drive 128GB from my Toshiba Satellite U920T-101 is to small.
How can I change the internal 128GB SSD to a new 500GB SSD Drive.
Is there a manual for the SSD change available?

Many thanks.

Answer:Satellite U920T: Change internal 128GB SSD to 500GB SSD Drive

Due to specific design SSD upgrade should be done by authorized service. To have full access to build in SSD almost whole machine must be disassembled so I recommend you to contact nearest authorized Toshiba service provider and ask for opinion and they can help you with this.

Just opened my new u920t-117, my first time buying a Toshiba, 5 mins in and excitement has started to turn to worry.

I really hope its me doing something simple wrong, or at worst a software issue.

At no stage has the touch function worked (neither in tablet or laptop mode).
In control panel --> System under Pen & Touch it says "no pen or touch input is available for this display" just like my last computer that had no touch screen.

Does this mean there is a problem with the driver or something.

Also it seems when i click shut down it shuts down and about 5 secs later starts up again.

Answer:Satellite U920T-117 - touch screen is not working & shut down restarts

Hi stephen

> I really hope its me doing something simple wrong, or at worst a software issue.

I’m afraid the worst case is a hardware malfunction and I guess your Satellite U920T touch screen malfunctions.

I read in other thread about the similar issue and it looks like the service engineers needs to be contacted in order to solve such touch screen problems.

I don’t know if you could ask your dealer for a unit replacement but in case the dealer would not replace the notebook, get in contact with an Toshiba ASP in your country to fix it.

My U920 has been goten worst every day, first it was the thouchscreen, then the cameras and finnally today the screen has stoped working.

The ribon attachment has problems, don't know if I'm the only one or if is a design problem, but the main problemhas been the total lack of support from Toshiba.

Amazing how bad can costumer service be....

Answer:Satellite U920T - display, touchscreen and camera has stopped working

I don?t understand why you are not satisfied with the consumer service but fact is that in case of hardware problems, you should always contact the local Toshiba authorized service provider which is available in your country.

How to now if it?s really an hardware problem or maybe just an software issue (corrupt system)?
There is a very simple method and workaround:
In most cases if you recover the notebook back to the factory settings, the software issues should be fixed the notebook should work properly.

In case the recovery does not solve the notebook problems, the notebook?s hardware might be affected. In such case (as already mentioned above) you will need additional help from notebook engineer.

I've been using my u920t for almost 10 mont and i really like that i can still use the touchscreen when the keyboard ist out.

But a couple of days ago it stopped working. I don't remeber changing anything.

Windows now tells me the screen is not a touchscreen.
Once i put the screen down and go into tablet mode everything works fine.
Tablet PC setting in the control panel also disappear once the keyboard ist out..

I tried reinstalling the driver.
I also did a windows 8 refresh (no backup unfortunately)

Any ideas?

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Satellite U920T - when I slide out the keyboard touchscreen no longer works

> Tablet PC setting in the control panel also disappear once the keyboard ist out..
I assume this should be OK since the tablet PC settings should be available only if the notebook is used in ?tablet mode?

The point is that this notebook can be used in three different modes.
1) tablet mode -> the keyboard and touchpad are pulled in and only touchscreen can be used
2) laptop mode -> the keyboard and touchpad are pulled out
3) photography mode -> keyboard is pulled in but touchpad is pulled out and can be used as well as the touchscreen.

I?m not quite sure if the ?orientation lock button? (on the left side) would affect the touchscreen but fact is that using this button the automatic rotation of the screen orientation can be enabled or disabled.
If you are operating the computer in laptop or in photography mode, the screen orientation will always be in Landscape mode.

Please check also if the touch display has been calibrated properly
Go to control panel (win key + x control panel) -> Tablet PC settings

Here you will find the first tab called ?Display?
Click on ?Setup? button to start the setup where you could identify the touchscreen
In bottom area called ?display options? you could calibrate the touch display.

Answer:Satellite U920T - power cord spare part required

In my opinion you should get in contact with local ASP.

I think this will be the best chance to get a compatible part for a Toshiba notebook.

Usually the ASP will be able to order such part from Toshiba head warehouse

Hi

From the list of drivers available for the Satellite U920T notebook, which one handles the pen and touch screen facility?

Cheers
Alfred

Answer:What tool or driver handles touch screen facility of Satellite U920T

An essential Toshiba software/tool which needs to be installed for Win 8 and Windows 8.1 is Toshiba System Driver.

But Win 8 and Win 8.1 provides own drivers to control the 10 finger capacitive touch screen.

Despite having it for 2 days, I'm only getting 1 hour. My laptop gets 6 or 7 hours with the same settings. This is rather disappointing for a tablet as I thought it'd last longer than just a mere hour. Is there a setting I need to change?

And the fan kicks in so often it becomes annoying. It sounds like a small strimmer, or a moped and I'm sure it'll bother students in the college campus library.

Answer:Battery life in Satellite U920T and annoying frequent buzzing fan spinup

Hi
>is there a setting I need to change?

According to the Satellite U920T specs page where the details about the battery working time are mentioned, you should be able to use the notebook up to 4 hours running with battery power.
You should know that battery working time depends on notebook usage. Very bright display settings may reduce the battery working time dramatically. Also running heavy performance applications like game or graphic editor tools would decrease the battery working time.

But the notebook seems to be very new and the battery isn?t calibrated therefore I would recommend you to calibrate the battery firstly. The calibration means charging and discharging the battery fully and to repeat this procedure several times in the row? after some days of usage and calibration, the battery should reach the full performance level.

Hi All,

my 2 yr old U920t laptop/tablet satellite ultrabook has poor battery life. The battery will only last a maximum of 2 hrs before requiring recharging under normal word doc/excel data entry.

Any ideas on how i can improve it?

The Toshiba pc health monitor function continually informs me that I need to replace the battery due to normal wear and tear but I thought the battery being an 'internal' item means it cant be replaced?

If anyone can offer some advice that would be great!

Answer:Satellite U920T - short battery working time after 2 years of usage

Hi

In my opinion there is no some kind of ?rule? or ?norm? about battery life in general. On some machines battery hold capacity for longer period of time comparing it with other notebook models.
Fact is that over time battery will lose the capacity and result will be shorter working hours.

You can try to increase working hours changing some power options and shutting off some useless background processes.
Many newer notebook models have newer design where battery cannot be removed so simply and it is placed under the bottom cover but it can be replaced too. One day when you need new one contact nearest Toshiba service provider and they can replace it for you.

Answer:Satellite U920T - front/back cam + touch screen + win button doesn't work

Since you mentioned different issues with your notebook, I think that in this case its advisable to recover the notebook back to factory settings just to check if all these problems are related to system problem.

Regarding the webcam: the Windows 8 /8.1 already contains the webcam drivers and therefore additional webcam driver installation isn?t possible. Additional webcam driver does not exist simply.

From my point of few the whole description smells a little bit like a hardware problem of the upper slide part where the touchscreen is part of.
The win button as well as the both cams are located there and probably there is some lose connection between the two parts (touchscreen and keyboard)

Anyway, as I said above, its advisable to recover the notebook to factory settings just to ensure that the system isn?t the troublemaker.
In case of hardware problems, you would need to get in contact with service available in your country.

The touch pad of my Satelite U920T-100 works when the lap top is started up, but some 10 seconds after I have logged in the touch pad does not work anymore.

I have tried all tips as posted at the FAQ's:
- disconnected all other devices
- external mouse works, but once this has been diconnected the touch pad remains "dead"
- FN-F9 gives no result
- checked touch pad settings: nothing abnormal
- removed and reinstalled touch pad drivers three times: no result, problem still exits.

When the lap top is started up in safe mode the touch pad works again (and continues to work), so probably some program is blocking the touch pad when the lap top is started up normally.

Don't know where to go from here. Does anyone have a suggestion on how this problem can be fixed?

Thnx & grtz,
Rein

Answer:Satelite U920T-100 - Touch pad does not work after log in

Hello,

I have a U920T with 8.1 x64 and an history of BSOD.
For the second time, I had to use my backup image and re-install everything.

Windows 8.1 has the ability to create a personalized refresh image.
But when I run the recimg.exe instruction, I have a error with "entry point not found" linked with migcore.dll.

Does anyone know how to create such refresh image.
Based on my research on internet, it seems that there is an issue with Toshiba laptops...

Thanks
Lo?c

Answer:Saellite U920T - Cannot create refresh image

Hi

> But when I run the recimg.exe instruction, I have a error with "entry point not found" linked with migcore.dll.

I read that this migcore.dll error appears in case you are trying to restore the Win 8 image running Win 8.1 system
I read in Microsoft forum that the recovery image function that appeared in Win 8 system was changed by the upgrade to Win 8.1.

So in case you are trying to restore the notebook to an early time point, I would recommend you to use the image created within the Win 8.1 system

Hi all,
Just registered to ask a few questions of the community, I've been using a Satellite L50-a-1DN for some time now and while it's served me well, I'm interested in upgrading to the P50-C-187 as it has much more desirable hardware. So I have a few questions before I do anything:

Firstly, is there any better way to upgrade from one Toshiba laptop to another, other than simply buying the new computer outright? Secondly, the main problem I've had with the L50-A-1DN is that the Nvidia GPU tends to overheat easily and thus restart itself, crashing any game I have running at the time. So with this in mind, my second question is: do either of these laptops, the L50 I currently have and the P50 I'm looking to get, have a fan dedicated solely for the GPU?

I'm more interested in whether the P50-C-187 has a fan for the GPU, but I'm curious to find out if the one I'm currently using to type this has one or not, because it sure doesn't seem like it!

As some added information: I am not using the laptop on a bed or other surface that would allow it to overheat easily. I always use it on a clear wooden desk, and it's even sat on a makeshift stand I'm using that consists of the side of the case from an old desktop computer, perched up at the back by a binding folder that I don't use. It helps, but not much.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide!

Answer:2 questions about Satellite A20

Hi

I will try to help you:

1.) I have investigated a little bit and it seems that the Satellite A20 supports max 1024MB memory.
Therefore you can use max 2 x 512MB memory modules. The A20 supports the simple PC2100 DDR-RAM modules and these parts should be supported;
PC2100 256MB (PA3127U-1M25)
PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51)

2.) What do you mean by ?s-video is not working?? Are you not able to switch to TV by pressing FN+F5?
Did you try to enable the TV device in the graphic card properties???
Usually you should find the option to enable the TV in the graphic card properties -> advanced -> Display devices
Connect the TC to you notebook and check this area!!!

PS: On some TV?s the s-video must be enabled!

I have a laptop L50 -A- 15x , whose HDD died . Had Windows 10 installed.
The version which came initially was Windows 8 RTM Core . As many people I did not back up the recovery image. Because Windows 8 activation key is recorded in the BIOS firmware I?ve searched the internet for a version equal to the computer brought. In fact when I first connected to the net, activation was successful. What turns me crazy is that now I have to go through a Windows 8 massive update to be able to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and later for Windows 10.
What I wonder is whether a next time I do a clean install of Windows 10, this activate at Microsoft as an upgrade to the original version of Windows 8 or if I have to go again through this task ( W8- > W8.1- > W10- > ... ) ?
If I must always install the initial release of Windows 8 will be able to create an image of that I?ve installed now to save me time ? How?

Hi All!

I have just got my first Toshiba NB - couldn't decide between them or other one but heard so many horror stories about the others, that I went for Toshiba and I am very pleased.

However, two queries please:

a) the notebook is VERY warm to the touch - is this usual and it is dangerous!;
b) my model has a Trubrite 14" screen but the quality of pictures on it for DVD movies is poor compared to DVD players -is this unusual? and you can only watch DVDs from a certain screen angle - again, is this because of the trubite screen?

Many thanks

Answer:Questions about Satellite M50-130

Congratulations on your new laptop.

in answer to your questions

A) the fact you say its only warm , although VERY is not an issue. If you said it was Very Hot then I would be concerned. Machines are designed to close down and switch off if then become to hot. I would be concerned though if you said it was hot around the battery area. So if you can let us know where it is warm?
B) When you say poor, how do you mean. In theory they should be better than a TV, due to better picture signals. Have you tried more than one DVD?

Hi there,

I've got 2 questions on my P10-554. I have read over this forum but didn't found nothing that helps me out.

First:
When I try to turn the unit off after working, using even the shut down function of xp or the power button, windows normaly quit, but when it has to turn off it just restart again. If I repeat the shut down directly after this reboot it normaly turns off.
This issue only occur when I use the power supply, not in battery mode.
I can't announce that to me...

Second:
I've got a mini PCI Wlan card for my unit, working fine, but I wonder if it is possible to get the Wlan on/off switch working whith it? Or is that only possible whith some special cards? It's not so important but it would be nice to know if there is a trick or something to get the switch in use.

best regards
Gabbagandalf

Answer:Questions on Satellite P10-554

Hi

Regarding your first question;
I?m a little bit confused? are you sure you don?t use the option ?restart???
I have never noticed something like that on my notebook?

Usually if I use the option ?Shut down? I can choose between standby, hibernation, restart and shutdown. If I use the shutdown the notebook goes off as it should.
Maybe it?s time for an OS reinstallation???

About second question;
The switch at the left notebook side was designed and developed to switch on the WLan card antenna.
Usually you should be able to use this switch and to enable/disable the WLan card functionality?

Don?t understand why it should not works? ?:|

I have taken my laptop apart before, and as far as I remember I was able to remove the CPU.
My A60 is the bottom of the range AFAIK, 2.8ghz Celeron, 40GB HDD and DVD-ROM/CD-RW. I have since added 512MB RAM and a LiteOn DVD+-RW drive.
What kind of CPU would be a direct swap?
I have been looking at my manual, A60's have been sold with 3.06GHz P4's.

Would I be able to put in a 3.06GHz 533FSB into my laptop?

Intel-Celeron CPU 335(2.8G) CPU 340(2.93G) CPU 345(3.066G), CPU 350 (3.2G)

So in this case I think you can use only these CPUs

Hi dude

I?m not expert but I will try to answer some your questions;

> 1) I lost windows vista recovery disc so i don?t know where did i put it... So can i get a new one?
You can purchase it from the ASP or from this website:
https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

>2) my laptop charger been broken AGAIN (so i wonder if Toshiba still got my warranty on Toshiba?s service so i don't have to worry about if my sister asked them)
You can get the new AC adaptor from the ASP in your country. If the warranty is valid then you will get it for free. If the warranty is not valid then you will have to pay for this part

> 3) i wonder what is Toshiba tempro since i haven?t update any Toshiba?s version
Toshiba Tempro or Tempo (it the same) is a new tool which send a notification if an new driver update is available on the Toshiba European page. To be honest I don?t need such tool and I don?t update my system if it?s not necessary!

> 4) i have a camera which is build-in however, i try to figure it out to fix but i don?t know what is name of website which is camera...
The internal webcam is designed by Chicony but the necessary software and driver can be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page.

Ok, to start, I don't know much about computers let alone laptops but my husband is "usually" good with them but right now we are having major problems.

I have a Satellite A30 (not sure if it's a pro as it doesn't mention it in the manual and Stephen is about to have a heart attack right now and isn't on the laptop so can't check the BIOS).

Anyway. Problems started quite some time ago, in fact not long after the warranty ran out. I bought it second hand and I loved it when I got it.

Ok
Problem 1. - Overheating, we finally solved that by hoovering it out every now and then, problem solved.

Problem 2. - USB 2.0. Some things work some don't. My Nikon camera won't work via USB but my Lumix does. My mobile struggles. Just bought a card reader, worked on Stephen's laptop but not the A30. Bluetooth dongle doesn't work. All these items used to work.

Problem 3. - I can set my processor speed to either 1.6GHz or 3.06GHz. Overheats really easily on 3.06 and tends to slow down and seems to be faster on 1.6GHz and doesn't overheat on 1.6 so end up keeping it on that. Pain though. Even with extra under laptop fan cooler base.

Problem 4. - Not that I'm an expert but I think my power supply is gone. I always have my laptop plugged in about 90% of the time. I can put the laptop on and it will use the AC Adaptor for a while then goes on to Battery Power. If the AC Adaptor was in that was what it used, not the battery. Then when the battery gets to the end of it'... Read more

Answer:Questions about different issues on a Satellite A30

Hi there,

do you have still warranty on that machine? If yes then bring it TOMORROW to an authorized service partner.

Why? The problem is that this machine has an Pentium 4 which really gets hot and if the cooling system is clobbed with dust, then the cooling paste which transfers the heat between cpu and cooling module gets dry and cannot transfer the heat accurately to the copper cooling module.

I would suggest you to go to an technician and advise him to exchange the cooling paste, it will really raise your system stability.

Believe me. :)

The other thing with USB is: sometimes there is no enough power in the system and I assume that the problem lies on the AC-adapter. Purchase an new AC-adapter and you probably won?t have problems with stability, USB and some other things anymore. I cannot tell it for sure, but I solved a problem with a Satellite 2430 which I had and which is quite the same model like yours, it has just some other colors but the model is the same.

I had that heat problem and I solved it by exchanging the cooling paste, but then the machine was not in warranty anymore and I am a little bit familiar with computers.

I had problems with my AC too, but my error was another because it mades some noise and after a while it stops working. At this time the system did not worked properly and after exchanging the AC everything was fine again.

Regarding the HDD: I cannot tell you something about since I am using just a 60GB drive. You will pro... Read more

Hello,

I'm going to buy a Toshiba Satellite A500-14k , and I would like to know:
- has he got a backlight keyboard?
- has he got a "slot loading DVD drive"?
- is his telecommande really on express card format?

I precise that I'm French, and the French A500 series is maybe different.

I don't speak a good English, excuse me ;)

Have a nice day.

Answer:Questions about the Satellite A500-14k

Is this notebook already on the market in France?
I mean if nobody here can give you precise answer you can contact your local dealer or online shop to pick up info directly.

Google a little bit around. I am pretty sure you can find some dealer that can help you.
You are right about different models and I also believe all A500 will not be the same in all European countries. Please also note that this is first A500 series on the market and I also believe for French market it can be modified in the future. It is possible that in few months you will be able to find more different models in France.

In my country Satellite A500 is still not on the market. :(

Can you overclock a Toshiba Satellite KTKAE BIOS V 1.20 running an AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM-80 2.1GHz? either RAM or processor? I heard in another thread that the BIOS may be locked, but there may be chances on individual BIOS's to unlock them? can I also get some recommendations for benchmarking software? *I know, this is a mid to low range laptop* I'm just curious. I plan on pitting this against another Toshiba, but the second one is running with Crucial Memory, an Intel Dual Core, and *the real difference* an SLC SSD by OCZ *the Vertex EX* to more or less compare solid state to a 7200 RPM WD Black

Answer:Toshiba Satellite questions

For laptops.. not very likely... nthey run hot enough without the OC.

The coolers are just not meant to take the increased heat.

Hi

I am planning to buy Satellite P200-1FC but I want to know:
-What is Hard Drive Speed (rpm) is 4200 or 5400?
-What is battery capacity 6-cell, 9-cell and how many mAH?
Does anyone have this laptop and haw long battery achieve in normal use?

Thanks,
Ivan

Answer:Few questions about Satellite P200-1FC

Hi

I?m not a Satellite P200-1FC owner but I found a very useful info about this notebook on the official Toshiba page.
http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/jsp/productPage.do?PRODUCT_ID=137284

I have also goggled around and have collected this info:

> -What is Hard Drive Speed (rpm) is 4200 or 5400?
250GB(4200rpm) SATA 12.5mm

> What is battery capacity 6-cell, 9-cell and how many mAH?
6cell but the mAh are not known to me?

Maximum battery life: up to 2:20h
But you should know that this is only a rough value because the battery working time depends on the notebook usage.
Using this notebook you can expect a battery working time of 1.5h

Hi

I have some questions for my new laptop (very impressed btw)

1) Which is the fastest ram speed i can add? (667 mhz as the ram installed?)
2) VGA says it has a shared memory, how can i configure the amount shared?
3) I found a 2.5 HD 500gb can i add it?

Thank you very much

Answer:I've got some questions regarding the Satellite P300-133

Hi

1) The Satellite P300-133 seems to support the Intel PM965 chipset and this Intel chipset supports the DDR RAMs at 667Mhz and 533Mhz.
Therefore the installed memory would run max at 667Mhz speed.

2) As far as I know this will be controller automatically by a graphic driver. But you can increase the graphics shared system memory by increasing the main memory.

3) Yes, the 500GB HDD should be supported. Did you check the user manual?
If found this info in the user manual which is stored always on the HDD.

Check it!

Hello everyone.

I have a Toshiba laptop U500-1D8. I bought it in Poland.
I have some questions about this model.

1. why not have this model at: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/product-support ?

2. is it possible to make an internal 3G modem? (according to technical specification, has performed with U500 3G modem)

3. is it possible to exchange the video card for GF GT540M?

best regards

Answer:Satellite U500-1D8 - few questions

> 1. why not have this model at: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/product-support ?
First of all this is a user to user forum and I don?t think that such questions could be answered by common forum users?
I can only assume why you cannot find this unit there?possibly it was not add to the databank or similar?

The point is that U500-1D8 belongs to the PSU9ME series like other U500 do?
So if you need some drivers for this unit, I recommend choosing this series manually on the Toshiba European driver page.

> 2. is it possible to make an internal 3G modem? (according to technical specification, has performed with U500 3G modem)
According to the specifications of the U500-1D8 the 3G module is not available for this unit.
The notebook supports Wlan and BT only

>3. is it possible to exchange the video card for GF GT540M?
No, the GPU is part of the mobo.

I recently purchased a Toshiba A660 - 1FM i7 laptop but unfortunately had to return it today as it was continuously over heating and turning itself off. The store have any A660 - 1FM's so I was forced to take a 1FH instead. Is the 1FM a far superior laptop to the 1FH?

Anyway I've a few question in relation to the 1FH that I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me with.

*1) Graphics card*
The 1FH has a Nvidia 512 Graphics Card, isn't this correct? Yet when I check what Graphics card is coming up on the laptop it's telling me Intel Integrated Graphics Card, is there any particular reason for this? There are Nvidia drivers and utilities on the laptop.
Would it be possible that the laptop has both an Intel and also a Nvidia card and switches between the two? I think I've read that some laptops do this. If this is the case does it switch over automatically or so I need to witch it over?

The Windows Experience Score is only 4.6 due the graphics for Windows Aero Section yet the 3D graphics score is 5.5. Surely this is unusual?

*2) RAM*
The laptop has 4GB. Would I notice much of an improvement if I upgraded this to 6 or 8GB? Laptop will be used for gaming (not really graphic intensive though - say Football manager), ripping and work purposes.

*3) Noise*
The laptop makes a clicking noise every so often - a noise which the 1FM didn't make. I've heard a similar noise before when the hard-drive in my Mac failed.

Any ideas what this might be?

*4) Using a lapt... Read more

The notebook supports this CPU:
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=50179
It has a Integrated Graphics!
But the notebook is equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce 310M. This is main GPU!!!

> 2) RAM
It?s always better to have more RAM but if you want to play games like Football Manager then the 4GB RAM should be more than enough for this purpose.

> 3) Noise
Possibly it?s coming from HDD? it?s always advisable to backup the data from time to time.

> 4) Using a laptop on a bed
Not advisable and not recommended due to overheating problems? the hardware might damage due to higher temperature.

Hello!

I need help or advice.

I plan to add memory then to intall Windows 7 on my Satellite A100

1. I want to install two DDR2 SO-DIMM of 2 gig. Can you confirm that my A100 will see 2 memory modules of 2 gig (4 gig together)?
2. I think that my computer can work only with windows 7 32 bit, am I right?
3. I found on the site Toshiba drivers for windows 7 32 bit. So in theory it's quite possible.

But has anybody already installed windows 7 on satellitte A100? I 'd like to know results.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite A100 - Some questions regarding Win 7

> 1. I want to install two DDR2 SO-DIMM of 2 gig. Can you confirm that my A100 will see 2 memory modules of 2 gig (4 gig together)?
This depends on the chipset which is available on the motherboard.
For example; the A100 with an Intel 945PM Express chipset would be able to handle 4GB RAM.

> 2. I think that my computer can work only with windows 7 32 bit, am I right?
No, you can also use 64bit OS\

You can install Win 7 32bit and 64bit? 32bit and 64bit drivers you will need to search in at your own hand

Hi folks,

my trusty laptop has died and I need a new one. The P200-1FC seems to fit the bill, and I have a few questions that I hope this is the right place for.
Is there a hardware switch (or key combo) to inactivate the touch pad? Is there an indicator of the state of the touchpad?
Is there a hardware switch to inactivate the wireless networking components?
Is it possible to add physical memory to the dedicated graphics card?

I know you can filch memory from system to increase that available for graphics operations, but does it make more sense to add system memory or to add graphics memory.

What's the loadout for the system memory slots in base factory config with 2GB RAM? Are there 4 slots or 2? Are they all filled?

Just how difficult is it to "downgrade" the machine to XP? Are there XP drivers available for all the components?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Re: Some questions regarding the Satellite P200-1FC

Hi

I?m not P200 owner but I will try to answer your questions;

> Is there a hardware switch (or key combo) to inactivate the touch pad?
Yes, the FN+F9 key combination should enable and disable the touchpad!

> Is there an indicator of the state of the touchpad?
Well, in the task bar you should get an notification icon if the touchpad was disabled

> Is there a hardware switch to inactivate the wireless networking components?
Yes, the WLan switch is available at the notebooks side (probably on the front side).

> Is it possible to add physical memory to the dedicated graphics card?
No, the graphic card supports an own local cache memory. The graphic cards support also hyper memory. This hyper memory depends on amount of the main memory. Total Video Memory is sum of local cache and Hyper Memory.
But once again; physical memory cannot be added!

> What's the load out for the system memory slots in base factory config with 2GB RAM? Are there 4 slots or 2? Are they all filled?
There are 2 memory slots and the notebook was delivered with 2x1024MB modules.
The notebook supports max 4GB of memory but as far as I know the Windows 32bit recognizes only 3.02GB because of the 32bit OS limitation!

> Just how difficult is it to "downgrade" the machine to XP? Are there XP drivers available for all the components?
It?s not difficult to downgrade the notebook to the XP OS.

Just acquired a used Toshiba Satellite (1675CDS) laptop and was wondering if anyone knows:

1. What model port replicator will fit it?
2. What is the largest HDD I can install?
3. What is the Maximum RAM I can install?
4. Where I can find a strip down guide for it?

Tried the Toshiba web-site but it doesn't have anything useful with regards to information.

Thanks in Advance

At the underside of the laptop there is an empty bay for a second internal hard disk.
It's at the bottom left side (the first internal hard disk exists on bottom right side) and the bay has a sata connector.
The plastic cover of the empty bay has extended columns so nothing (not even a hard disk) can be positioned inside.

Does anybody know :
-If the sata connector is working
-If I can connect a secondary internal hard drive that co-work with the primary one
-Where could I order the bracket for the secondary hard disk (i.e. the toshiba code)
-Where I could order a plastic cover without extended columns, bcz I don\t want to break them.

If my question is not clear, I can upload a picture.

Thank you in advance

Answer:Satellite A300 - Questions regarding second HDD bay

Additional information (good news) after some testings:

I connected my primary HDD to the second SATA connector and worked fine. Actually it was recognized as HDD2 and everything worked fine. That means that the second SATA connector works fine and a second HDD can be connected.

The questions that remained answered are

-Where could I order the bracket for the secondary hard disk (i.e. the toshiba code)
-Where I could order a plastic cover without extended columns, bcz I don\t want to break them.

Thanks in advance

Hello there :-)

I have a few questions regarding my new L650.

I've never had Toshiba notebook before so excuse me if some of these "quirks" are actually just normal on this notebook. I'd really like to hear opinions from other L650 users.

1)
First of all, the moment i turned it on I saw thin gradient (1-2 millimetres) along right edge of the screen that goes from bottom to top. Maybe "gradient" is not the right word, but it seems like the last two or three pixels are kind of fading or loosing brightness/sharpness towards the edge along the whole right bezel. It's not really that visible, looks like colours are a bit desaturated there or brightness is lacking a bit. It can be seen everywhere (bios or any colour in Windows, but better in brighter background).
The left side (or any other) seems ok, just this along right edge is somewhat suspicious. Can someone compare? I'm not sure if this is something to worry about or it's just supposed to be like that.

2)
The other thing I've noticed is heating of the CPU (Intel i3 330M) and GPU (ATi Mobility Radeon 5650). It's pretty hot here at the moment (I'd say temperature is around 28 degrees Celsius where notebook is being used). It's seated on the hard surface (table) and nothing is blocking vents.
However, when "idle" (web surfing & usual light stuff), average CPU temp hovers around 58? C. It usually goes from 45 to 62 in few minutes after booting and then I can hear and see (Toshiba... Read more

Answer:Satellite L650-11R - Few questions about it

2.)Temps of around 70 +/- for a CPU are ok. I suppose 75 would just be cause for concern. Mine usually sits around 60/70 on full load. As do desktop CPUs nothing to worry about really.

"A100" laptop with Vista software ??349.00

This is the laptop I am looking at getting my partner but I am not really computer savvy, I have a few questions that i hope you can help me with.

Firstly, my partner has just started up a small business and she will need it for emailing and internet surfing and downloading songs (please bear in mind I dont have alot of money to play with) will this laptop be any good for her? Speed and lots of memory is not that important really.

Second, can this laptop burn music and dvds onto a disc?

Thirdly, is this a good price? the laptop is for sale with LITTLEWOODS and I can get a further 10% off.

Please help asap as I need to be ordering in next few days, please remember budget and the need for a half decent mid-range laptop.

Mant thanks for your help in this matter

Russell

Answer:Some questions about Satellite A100

Hi Russell,

From your description of the use to which this notebook will be subjected, I would have no concerns that it should work splendidly. You don't say exactly which model of A100 you propse to buy but I believe they all had a DVD-RW optical drive installed so they should all be able to burn CDs and DVDs adequately. As for E-mail and Internet access, the A100 will be quite capable of doing both functions.

The price of 349 is extremely competitive since most models seem to retail at around the 400 mark so with an axtra 10% off I would waste no time in snapping this one up.

By the way, welcome to the forum, it is an excellent source of useful information and help.

Okay I have two questions.

On my Hard Dive there is 4 existing partitions, and I am looking to create a new one to dual boot Windows XP. I currently have Windows 7.
I can create a new one, but when I try to format it, it says there is too many existing partitions. The 4 partitions are a 1.46GB Recovery, 435GB C drive, 17.86GB, and a 10.60GB.
What are the 17GB and the 10GB ones for? Is it safe to delete them to make room?

My other question is where can I find drivers for my laptop?

Answer:Two questions about Satellite L500D-00F

I don't know where you purchased your notebook model and this partitions structure is not known to me.
Googling around I found some info and presume you have Canadian notebook model. Can you confirm this?

Anyway, Canadian download page you can find under http://209.167.114.38/support/Download/ln_bymodel.asp

Hi

recently purhased a Toshiba Satellite A500-19w laptop. I found out that the modem port is sealed shut. (with plastic covering) and there is no way to open it.
Do all the A500-19w have this same problem. Plus i did not receive a remote with this laptop. Should that come with the package?

-Sheldon

Answer:Few questions about Satellite A500-19W

Satellite A500 is offered with several different hardware configurations and it is not easy to say all of them are the same.
You must also understand that notebooks are ?country specific? product and I know that all platforms will not be offered in every country.
So it can be that all A500 offered in your country will not have modem port.

To be honest in year 2010 modem will not be used so often and my personal opinion is that 90% notebook users will not miss it.

With remote control is the same. if specification for your model doesn?t offer info about it as part of the package then all must be clear for you.

Hello, i have many questions about the series P70 , L70, S70 that come with a 1920x1080 panel.

1) What are the differences between the L70 and S70 series? Except of the HDD capacity and RAM, the notebooks look pretty identical.

2) Do P70 , L70, S70 support a 2nd HDD or is it just the P70 series that support it ?

What Sat L70 and S70 models do you mean exactly? There are different L70-xxx and S70-xxx models on the market which supports different hardware specifications.

>2) Do P70 , L70, S70 support a 2nd HDD or is it just the P70 series that support it?
As you can see in this [Sat P70 HDD replacement document,|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/CRU3903II0000R01.htm] the P70 series supports 2nd HDD bay BUT even if there is an 2nd HDD bay this does not mean that you could use 2nd HDD. In case the 2nd HDD bay would be equipped with HDD connector, you could use the 2nd HDD

I found also the [Sat L70/S70 HDD replacement |http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/CRU3703HG0000R01.htm] document on Toshiba page and there I can see that 2nd HDD bay is not available

Hi,

I've got an SP20-102 which has a 3.40Ghz P4 processor. It is 800Mhz FSB, 512KB L2 cache with HT enabled - I believe the sSpec is SL793.

It would appear that the cooling mechanism can't quite cope with this processor and the fan is on a lot, esp. when doing any CPU-intensive activity (e.g. compiling code, etc.).

I presume it is possible to replace the processor with another, slower one.

My questions are:

1. What other CPUs would be compatible with this laptop?

2. Is there any particular CPU I should look out for that will run cooler than the current one?

Thanks,

R.

Answer:Satellite P20-102: Questions about CPU changing

There is nothing unusual about the fan being on a lot with Toshiba laptops. Some folks find this annoying, but mostly they are quieter than comparable "conventional" desktops, it all depends on the background noise. I think the cooling system must have been designed for this processor, otherwise thermal shutdowns would occur. Though, it is probably louder than laptops with mobile pentium versions.
For processors, see developer.intel.com. I'm not sure whether replacement will really help, the fan will still swich on, although less often. I wonder if it is so expensive to put continuous control of fan speed in for Toshiba because many users are complaining over this?

Have you checked if the heatsink is clogged by dust?

Hi

Just brought 2 Toshiba laptops one is Satellite L350D-12m the other is Satellite L350-170.
The one I am typing on now is a Intel dual core and is now blowing cool air out the side and yet the other laptop is an AMD dual core and it always blows out hot air also I both laptops there is a lot of Toshiba rubbish.

Can I buy a restore media that will only restore Vista and not all the trial software? I wish I could install WXP. I have the installations CD but cannot find the serial.
If any one can give me any help on these questions on what I can delete I would be very happy.

Things like configfree do I need it and also on my d drive I have ?hhdrecovery?. It?s almost 6 GB.
Can I edit it in some way to remove the office trail and other rubbish and one last question I have paragon drive backup so if I backup c now and xp fails in any way I can just restore back to vista?

Thanks

Answer:Few questions about 2x new Satellite L350D

To be honest I don't know what you want to say with description about cold or hot air. The fact is that notebook hardware produce heat and notebook must be cooled properly. How hot the notebook is depends on usage. As you probably know when you use ?heavy? applications CPU and GPU temperature will be higher than usual.
So at the end I must say that there is nothing unususal. I just recommend you to take care how the notebook is placed on the desk. Be sure the cooling fan is not blocked and notebook can ?take a breath?.

Hmm ... what to say about ?Toshiba rubbish?? Maybe is word ?rubbish? not the best one but if you mean there is many stuff preinstalled that we can live without it I must say: you are right about that. Fact is that nobody forces you to use all this preinstalled software and you can remove from the system all you don't want to use. Simply install your favourite applications.

Toshiba doesn?t offer different restore medias (with or without) additional software. So you can just what you got with your notebook.
ConfigFree is very useful tool and it is very good for LAN/WLAN monitoring. This tool doesn?t need much resources and I recommend you to leave it preinstalled on your system.

About ?HDDRecovery? folder I can say follow: be careful about it. This folder contains original recovery image. Toshiba doesn?t offer recovery DVD media with notebook and on all new notebook models recovery image is saved on the second partition. What you must do is to create... Read more

Hi guys, here's another question for you.

*Intel HD Graphics 4600 - Integrated GPU!*
*AMD Radeon R9 M265X - High performance!*

This laptop comes with two GPUs. How do I know what GPU is being used and what triggers it's utilization?
Can I choose one of the GPU's based on a particular application?

AMD Catalyst Control Center is installed and there's a switchable graphics application monitor supposedly to watch what GPU is being used by what application. When I start monitoring it just doesn't show any GPU or application.

I'm looking to upgrade the internal hard drive on my A50-543 to 100GB 7200rpm. The original drive is a Fujitsu 60GM 4200. I have found no information on the Internet about drives other than the CMS line that have been tested and found to be compatible with the A50. I need 7200rpm or at least 5400rpm to edit video.

Vendors usually respond that with so many laptops on the market, they cannot test each hard drive with every laptop, but can tell whether it is compatible by the computer specifications and hard drive specifications and are so confident that their info is accurate that they offer a money back guarantee (excluding shipping charges)

My question is
1) how can I be 100% sure the drive will work (considering the high international shipping charges)?

2) Can any of the contributors to this board recommend an internal hard drive 5400rpm or higher he/she has successfully installed on the same model notebook?

Thanks. You're my last hope

Best Regards
Vince

Answer:Satellite A50-543: Questions about HDD upgrade

Hi

If you want to be 100% sure which HDD will work on your unit so in my opinion the best way is to contact the Toshiba service partner. There you can order all compatible and supported parts and devices.
I have also found these Toshiba HDDs which should be compatible:
HDD2187B ? 20GB 4,200
HDD2190B ? 40GB 4,200
HDD2193 ? 40GB 5,400
HDD2189B ? 60GB 4,200
HDD2194 ? 60GB 5,400
HDD2188B ? 80GB 4,200
HDD2191 ? 80GB 5,400

In this case you can use a 80GB 5,400 HDD but I don?t found any informations about 100GB HDD.

Hey^^

I has some questions about my Sattelite Pro 4600

1. How I can remove the Intern keyboard??

2. How i can open the laptop, to add as ex an pci card? or watsch the CPU??

thx!

Answer:Some questions about Satellite Pro P4600

Hi,

to remove the keyboard you only have to remove that long plastic cover on the top of the keyboard. Just take a flat-blade screwdriver push it gently on the top where the F1-F12 keys are under the plastic cover and lift that plastic cover up.

Why do you want to open your machine? Do you want to install an additional WLAN Card or what? And what do you mean with "watsch" the CPU?

Could you please clarify it?

Thx :)

Hi there,

I have a few questions on the Toshiba Satellite Pro L650-167 i am about to buy. This is the model with an i5 430m, 4gb drr3 and the ati 5650.

1) Will the laptop motherboard support upgrading to an i7m processor like the the 620m for example? I can find these on ebay for good prices. Also can you actually open up the L series laptops to replace cpu's? You can in dell's for instance. I know this will void my warranty. Finally all the i series cpu's are all 35w so there should not be power issues?

2) Can you easily swap out the hard-drive in the L series or is it not accessible?

Thanks alot!

Answer:Questions on Satellite Pro L650-167

Here is my opinion for you:

1
CPU upgrade is not supported and I don?t think anybody here will be able to offer some precise info about that. Every laptop can be opened and disassembled so there should not be problem but if this is reasonable decision is other question. If you need notebook with more power than pay a little bit more money and buy more powerful notebook but don?t change anything and have it with full warranty time.

Generally speaking design on most Toshiba notebooks is the same and access to HDD is not complicated. All you must do is to remove HDD cover placed at the bottom. Then you can remove original HDD and eventually upgrade it with new one.

1.) How could I Update my Bios? I find the zip- File but no further Information how it works?

2.) I want to update for more memory. 2GB are less for fast working. Where could I find Informations about the memory controller- e.g. Voltage, Timings... for pass new memory of 4GB.

3.) My PSSD1E shows me in Windows7 - Systems Hardware one empty SATA- Controller.
Is it possible to take it optional for an outgoing connection- eg SATA-OUT for extrenal device?

Sorry for my worst english.

Check this HowTo:

> 2.) I want to update for more memory. 2GB are less for fast working. Where could I find Informations about the memory controller- e.g. Voltage, Timings... for pass new memory of 4GB.
I think the notebook use the Mobile Intel? GL960 Express Chipset. This chipset support only 2GB RAM and therefore 4GB RAM are not possible

Some L300 can be equipped with a second HDD. Check if the second HDD bay (at the bottom of the unit) contains some connectors. If you will see the HDD connector then the second HDD would be possible.

I have an Satellite A60-199 and want to increase RAM from 512mb.
Is this possible and if so how much memory can I put in

Mike Hills

Answer:Satellite A60-199 - memory upgrade questions

The brochure says you can install a 1GB module in the Memory Slot. There is only one slot you can install memory into.

So if there is 256MB onboard, you can increase the total memory to 1.25GB

Hello All,

I planning on upgrading my Satellite M30x-154.
I was wondering if you guys would know before upgrading it if the things i want to buy for it would work.

I would like to change my Hitachi 60GB to a Seagate 100g (link as follows) would this work?
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131274

I have bios version 1.90.

I planning on install Vista on this. Will i be able to use a OEM copy?

I have currently on order 1gb of Corsiar memory i'm planning on putting to 2gb in it
Will this still work fine?

Cheers
Robert Knight

Answer:Some questions about upgrade of Satellite M30x-154

Hi,

1. HDD upgrade. I think it will work because some Sat M30X models was also build with 100GB directly from Toshiba.

2. OEM Vista will not work because the OEM version of Vista needs a special BIOS for activation (VISTA BIOS). You can install it but needs activation after some days.

3. The Sat M30X is 2GB max memory that means it is possible to install 2x 1GB Memory modules..but I can not say if the Crosiar memory will work but normaly they have to work. The original Memory partnumbers for a 1GB module is PC2100/PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

I hope this will help you.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, but not to Toshiba Laptops,

I bought my girlfriend the Toshiba C660D-181 earlier today, and myself, i think it's a great laptop for the price. Especially the amount of Ram
and the Graphics Card.

One thing i'm confused on is the 3D Capable part.
What is meant by 3D Capable, what does it enable me to do? Do i need extra hardware?
I've no idea how to use this feature, or what it actually does. I know 3D capable usually means (Well on 3Dtv's) that you can view 3D content with the use of Glasses,
but how exactly does it work, if so, on this computer?

I'm a little confused on this to be honest, and any help will be greatly appriciated.

Thanks in advance!

Paul

Answer:Satellite C660D-181: Questions about 3D feature

Hi

The notebook is equipped with the AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphic card.
This graphic card supports the 3D Graphic Accelerator and a 120 Hz screen supports 3D, Toshiba TruBrite HD and LED backlighting.

This means the screen is 3d compatible so you can see 3d on the screen with DLP or polarized or shutter (all are special and rare) glasses.
Therefore the notebook is 3D ready.

You will need such glasses in order to watch 3D content.

Hello everybody!

I have a satellite A300-1a9 (Intel Core 2 Duo T8300, Ati 3650, WXGA lcd 1280*800, 2 hard disks etc...) running Windows XP + SP3 + Toshiba utilities etc...

These are my questions...

1) Can i upgrade the CPU to Core 2 Duo P8400?
(I know that T8300 and P8400 use the same socket)

2) Can i upgrade my WXGA (1280x800) screen to a WXGA+ (1400*900) or WSXGA+ (1680*1050)?
How this will affect battery consumption?

3) Having the computer plugged in (a/c power), when i close the lid, computer goes to standby mode.
When i open the lid, computer wakes up.
Unfortunately, having the computer running on battery this is not the case.. I open the lid and nothing happens,
i have to press power button to wake up pc...

can i fix this?

thanks in advance...

Answer:Satellite A300 - CPU & GPU upgrade questions

Satellite A300 is newest notebook model and I am wondering you think about such hardware upgrade after so short time of use.
Generally speaking such upgrades are probably possible but definitely not supported by Toshiba.
On other way such radical upgrade like display upgrade is definitely not logic to me. You probably know how expensive such parts are.

In my opinion you should sold your notebook and buy new one with exact hardware like you want to have.

What to say about last question? Please check all settings in system settings and be sure you have chosen right option when notebook is on battery or plugged in.

Hi How far can upgrade my A 50 1,5 ghz centrino and does motherboard support dual core cos 1,5 is really not enough for me any more. I know that there a lot of problem about cpu upgrade but i need just answer how far ???

Can i also change my dvd-writer to +/- dvd writer and how can i do that. I also have heard that toshiba calls batery back and i saw my laptop model also on that list.

Answer:Satellite A50: CPU & DVD writer upgrade questions

Hi

Unfortunately but I don?t think that the motherboard will support the newest Dual Core CPU.
This is a simply different technology and you should also know that the CPU upgrade on the notebooks is not very easy like on the desktop PC.
As far as I know the A50 was delivered with different CPUs and should be compatible with Intel Pentium M 1.5/1.6/1.7Ghz 400Mhz bus and Intel Celeron M 1.2/1.3/1.4Ghz 400Mhz bus.

Anyway, as far as I know Toshiba doesn?t support any CPU upgrades and you will not find any official information about the CPU upgrades and the upgrade problems.
I think the biggest problem could be the higher temperature, BIOS and chipset compatibility. Furthermore it?s possible that some Toshiba tools like power saver will not work and the unit will overheat.

If you want to upgrade or replace the CD/DVD drive so I would recommend firstly contacting the Toshiba service partner for the compatible and supported devices.
This is important because not all drives are supported by the BIOS.
The notebook drives are set to master/slave or C-sel therefore it?s very important that you will buy a right drive. Drive with wrong settings will be not recognized by BIOS and there is no chance to change the master/slave or c-sel settings!

Now something about the battery:
Well, I have read on the Toshiba page that only some notebooks which were manufactured between March and May 2006 are affected.
I would recommend checking this FAQ Toshiba website for further deta... Read more
