Memory and HDD upgrade question - Satellite 5200-801

Question: Memory and HDD upgrade question - Satellite 5200-801

Hi all,

I'm really in need of your assistance in upgrading my toshiba Satellite 5200-801 (Model: PS520E-31P1D-EN), basically its the factory spec versions (specs shown in link below)

What i want is to get the fastest internal memory you can buy for this model (currently I have the default two sticks of 256mb DDR 266MHz CL2.5 memory). Probably one gig of memory will do (I might get more, but it depends on the price).
Plus i want to upgrade the HD to 160 gig (approx), as well as getting a HD that's faster then the current 4200rpm 60gig Hitachi HD (as fast as is possible for my laptop's specs).

Anyone know what the best options would be?

Someone was saying that it would all cost under 100 (which would be cool), but i don't know anything about compatability of different companies etc.
Can anyone recommend what hardware ...and where *hopefully ebay or dabs :)
I need to go to get this sorted out

FYI, I'll be mainly using the laptop for graphics, video's and the interwebz.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Preferred Solution: Memory and HDD upgrade question - Satellite 5200-801

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Memory and HDD upgrade question - Satellite 5200-801

You can upgrade the Satellite 5200-801 memory and HDD.
The notebook?s memory can be upgraded up to 1GB RAM. So you could use 2 x 512MB PC2100 DDR-RAM modules.

Check this Satellite 5200-801 link:

In my opinion you can use memory modules from different manufacturers but the module has to support these specifications: 200-Pin PC2100 (266MHz) DDR SODIMM
I assume you could use also a 400Mhz module because the notebook supports a 400Mhz FSB too.

I think a 160GB IDE HDD upgrade is not possible. From my knowledge the BIOS could not support such huge HDD size. But this is only my personal opinion. If I would be you then I would try a smaller HDD like 100GB or 120GB.

I?ve got an old 5200-903 notebook and I?m lovin it. I installed the Nvidia Driver from the Toshiba Support Download Page. But I can?t find any display driver yet? I?m only using the standard Windows Plug and Play Driver ? Has someone found a driver for the display to get better results?

Another question: I want to upgrade my RAM. At the moment I?m using the 2x256 MB DDR 266Mhz CL 2.5. What is the maximum that the book supports? Has someone tested faster DDR RAM? Like 333 MHz RAM?

Thank you for answering

There's two different pages for this model on the Toshiba site depending on the DVD

Concerning the memory you can check on different memory suppliers like Orca, Crucial, Offtek etc. This is the Orca page

Hi, new to this forum.
I tried to find a direct contact to ask this, but could not locate any email options on the website, only phone numbers, which aren't an option right now as I have other obligations during business hours at the moment.

I'm a computer technician of 30 years and have today purchased a new Satellite Pro R50-C PS566A-004001 with an i7-5500U, 8GB of RAM and 1TB HDD Notebook for a customer of mine. He has requested an additional 8GB of RAM, which I purchased at the same time from my wholesaler. On opening the box I discovered there is no access to the memory slots or the Hard Drive. The Toshiba Website states in the specs that the RAM is expandable to 16GB, but it appears the back cover has to be fully removed to gain access. I would like to check if I remove the back cover will this void the warranty. The specifications on the Toshiba website do not state that it is not user accessible to change the RAM, where as from the research I did for the customer, other cheaper models do state this. I have sold Toshiba and other brands Notebooks in the past and have always ensured that the specifications for the laptop did not say the RAM was non user accessible, and as such that I would be able to upgrade the RAM as customers request.

As above, I just wish to check that upgrading the RAM on this laptop will not void the Toshiba warranty, since the specifications do state that the laptop is expandable to 16GB of RAM, and do not state that it is not user accessible/u... Read more

Can anyone tell me which types of memory can be installed in my Laptop? Currently I have one 512 Mb DDR (PC-2700) installed and I was thinking about changing it to 2x256Mb DDR2 (so the dual channeling should work). Is it a good idea? Will it work? And what specific type of DDR2 is compatible with my Toshiba?

Answer:Satellite M40-101 memory upgrade question

As far as I know the notebook uses PC2700 DDR-Ram modules.
You can upgrade the memory to max 2048MB and these modules should works properly:
PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-2M25)
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-2M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-2M1G)

Hope I could help

Sorry for the beginner question. But if I have 512MB memory at the moment, what are my upgrade options?

Do I have to buy pairs of memory? So I can either buy 2x 1GB=2GB, or 2x 512MB = 1GB + 512 existing. Or can I say just buy a single 512MB or 1GB chip?

Answer:Question about memory upgrade for my Satellite M40-307

Since nobody wants to answer:
1. Check if your notebook supports Dual Channel Ram (it should, but just ckeck in the manual to be sure)
2. Find out what kind of RAM you have. This will add or remove a possibility to upgrade

The thing with Dual Channel is, that you have the best performance, if you using 2 RAM of the same type (really same type: company, size..)
you could:
3a. Add a 512MB RAM of the same type which you have
3b. Buy 2 pieces of new RAM of the same type (1GB + 1GB, or 2GB + 2GB) and be sure that your Notebook supports this ammount (again: manual to check)

You can find also in the manual, if your notebook is supporting DDR or even DDR2 RAM (faster)

If you lost your manual, you can download it here on the toshiba webpage

I hope I could help a bit.

Hi, there

The minimum recommended memory for Windwows XP is 256 Mb and I do not understand how the company could get away selling notebook with 256 MB with built-in graphic adapter sharing the system memory.

Anyway, I want to upgrade my Toshiba and my intention is to buy additional 512 Mb memory, such as

Will it work properly with 768 Mb or shall I buy only the same pairs : 256+ 256, 512+ 512?

Thank you very much.

Answer:Question about memory upgrade on Satellite L20-181

Firstly you are not right. The Windows XP runs also with the lower memory value.
But of course, it depends on the memory if the OS applications will run faster or slower.

However, the fact is that you can upgrade the memory on you notebook and it doesn?t mater if the modules have the same memory value or not.
In this case the notebook was delivered with 256MB and you can install easeful the second 512MB memory module.

PS: I would recommend installing the 512MB in the first slot and the 256MB in the second bank.

I have a problem with garbled display on
a Toshiba Satellite 5200. The adapter is
NVIDIA GeForce4 460 Go, 64 MB, integrated
RAMDAC. A Micro-Scope test indicated a bad
video memory. How to resolve the problem
(change the video card, or only video memory
or is it possible to exclude a damaged part
of video memory)?

Answer:Bad video memory - Satellite 5200

I don't know how to solve the problem, but as far as I know the video memory is integrated in the graphics card. So in case you need new memory, you have to replace the whole thing.

I upgraded my memory form 2Gb (2x1 Gb) to 4Gb (2x2 Gb) with two Kingston memory modules KVR667D2S5/2G (PC2-5300 CL5).
For two weeks there were no problems but then I got blue screen every time when system boots reffering to I guss memory error.
I tried to replace memory with original Toshiba's modules but blue screen remains. I have conctacted the service and they say that
it may be memory incompatibility, virus or hard disk malfunction.
After few days of working on the solution I reinstal my laptop with Toshiba DVD and replace original memory. Now everything works fine.

I wonder is Kingston memory cause of my problem or somethig else?
Does anyone know is Kingston memory KVR667D2S5/2G 2Gb compatibile with Toshiba?

Answer:Question about memory upgrade on Satellite A210-127

Honestly, the Kingston offers high quality products and, I believe, you are the first one who complains about Kingston RAMs.
If you visit Kingston webpage you can find list of compatible RAMs. Is your module listed there?

I have a Satelite S3000-X11 that I have upgraded to 512mb of RAM (2x256mb modules) plus an Hitachi 80gb 5,400rpm HD.
It is running very nicely but it does occasionally run out of physical memory. According to the Toshiba spec. for this machine, it should take 1024mb of memory, but everywhere else I look (including Crucial) says that 512mb is the max.
I have found some 512mb modules of the right type, but will they work?

Answer:Satellite 3000-X11: Memory upgrade question

The Satellite 3000-X11 has an 830MG (ICH-3) chipset included. The maximum memory supported by this machine (and chipset) is 2 x 512MB.

I've had the misfortune to get 2 KVR667D2S5/1G sodimms for my Toshiba Satellite A100-551 laptop which don't work by themselves either as a single sodimm or as a pair, it doesn't matter which slot they go into - they don't work.

However when the orignal 512Mb sodimm is put back into one of the slots - it doesn't matter which - either of the kvr etc sodimms work giving a total of 1.5Gb of ram.
Please help me to solve this problem.

Also is it poss. to upgrade cpu ie is cpu socketed. I've already upgraded many a laptop cpu when thay had socketed cpus, so I'm aware of the problems involved

It?s clear -> modules seems to be not compatible ;)

> However when the original 512Mb sodimm is put back into one of the slots - it doesn't matter which - either of the kvr etc sodimms work giving a total of 1.5Gb of ram.

Cannot believe that! As far as I know this notebook was delivered only with one 512MB DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM module.
Of course you can upgrade the memory up to 2GB using two 1024MB modules.

The compatible memory can you find here:

> Also is it poss. to upgrade cpu ie is cpu socketed. I've already upgraded many a laptop cpu when they had socketed cpus, so I'm aware of the problems involved
Well, what to say, the CPU is socked? you can find out it easily using an hardware diagnostic program like ?Everest?. It would provide many useful information about your notebooks hardware.

But to be honest, I?m very skeptical about CPU upgrade on the notebooks.
If you have already changed several CPUs on the notebooks then you should know that this is not very easy and more tricky like the CPU upgrade on the desktop PCs.

have pny optima memory 4gb 2x2GB

Answer:Question about memory upgrade (4 GB) on Satellite P200

You have to use compatible modules!
You have to use the DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM

If you already use such modules then I?m afraid a memory malfunctions.

Try with other modules!

One month ago I encountered a problem with a slightly garbled screen
on the internal and external displays. More or less visible vertical
strips appear on the screen. They are mainly blue on dark background
(best visible) or yellow on white background (less visible) and have
approximately the same thickness of order 1-2 mm and length of order
1 cm. The locations of the strips depend on the positions of details
of the actual picture currently displayed on the screen.

The boot screen is also garbled but now by red vertical strips located on the left and on the right of the red logo "In Touch with Tomorrow Toshiba"
In the full screen text mode, odd characters appear in positions which correlate with positions of true characters.
The BurnIn Test V4.0 Pro indicated a video memory corruption (the adapter is NVIDIA GeForce4 460 Go, 64 MB, integrated RAMDAC). That is very interesting, yesterday
there was a short period of about 5 minutes when all the described above symptoms suddenly disappeared.
Even the BurnIn Test showed that everything is OK. But after this period, the symptoms recovered again. For this
reason I would like to ask how to solve the problem.

Is this indeed a bad video memory which can recover and then become bad again or other reasons, such as a bad connectivity, etc.?

Answer:Satellite 5200 - Video memory corruption

Not easy to say what the problem can be but if you write ?red vertical strips located on the left and on the right of the red logo "In Touch with Tomorrow Toshiba"? it can be some hardware problem. I believe that just detailed testing by technicians can give you more information about hardware malfunction.

Good morning!

I would like you (if it is possible) to inform me concerning the input/output voltage characteristics of the LCD inverter of my Satellite 5200-902 laptop.
I need to check if the backlight bulb is powered correctly, since there is no backlight.

The part numbers/codes of my inverter are:
which I think respond to the P000354880 of the Toshiba part numbers. Please inform me concerning the Toshiba part number of my inverter as I have found on the internet also the P000439470, with code G71C00011221, which is said to be the replacement of the P000354880 (G71C00011121).
Also I have found the G71C00011121 but with different codes concerning the HBL-xxxx and 12xxxxx. Is this a problem or are all the G71C00011121 compatible with my laptop's LCD (SHARP LQ150U1LA03 P000374340)

So, could you give me the following information:
1. The input/output voltage characteristics of the LCD inverter (G71C00011121, HBL-0284, K1278365)
2. If the P000354880 is the part number of my inverter.
3. If the P000439470 has replaced the P000354880 and has identical output.
4. If the different codes HBL-xxxx and ????12xxxxx of the G71C00011121 matter in case I have to replace my inverter.

Thank you in advance for your help and for your time!

you can try the stick, I think the stick will clock down from 200Mhz frontsidebus (PC3200) to 166Mhz (PC2700) and should run flawless.
If you encounter errors with that stick then it would be useful to put some original toshiba pc2700 RAM inside.

My Satellite 5200 Series features a PHYSICAL scroll wheel under the Touch Pad in addition to the two "mouse" buttons. I find it a massively useful feature but can't find any current models that have retained it.

Has it been rejected ?

Is there an alternative way of scrolling with newer machines ?

I'd rather not add an external mouse as it blocks a valuable USB port AND I actually DO use my laptop, outdoors on my LAP.

Answer:Satellite 5200: Question about TouchPad scrolling function

Hi Tatterdemalion,

Most modern notebooks using a touchpad have a software scrolling feature (which can be disabled if you wish) to control automatic scrolling. This is very useful for browsing text in Word documents or on web pages etc., The technique (when the feature is enabled) is to set the top left or right corner of the touchpad to be the 'enable' point and by touching this area momentarily it will change the mousse pointer to indicate the autoscroll option. You then just drag the pointer slightly downwards and the screen will start to scroll until you touch the touch pad again.

A manual scroll facility is also available and can be used simply by stroking the right side of the touchpad (down to scroll down and up to scroll up), and the bottom of the touchpad to scroll left and right.

I find these features very useful but I know other people who find them extremely irritating. It is worth checking out.

The notebook doesn?t boot after the memory upgrade due to these different issues;

- memory modules are not compatible together
- memory modules are not compatible with the notebook
- memory modules are faulty
- one of memory slots is faulty

In most case the memory module replacement helps.

I thought it?s a memory malfunction but after module switching the notebook booted correctly.

If both memory slots are not placed under the memory cover (bottom side) one of them is usually placed under the keyboard. To access it you must remove the plastic cover placed over the keyboard and after doing this the keyboard itself.

I need some memory for my Toshiba Laptop it's a Satellite P30-143 (PSP30E-21301GS4) PC2700s DDR333MHZ CL2.5
I want Kingston RAM but I can't find on the kingstonmemory website. And I don't know the maximum I can use.

Any idee ?

Answer:Satellite P30-143 - Need memory to upgrade the RAM

Hi Johann

Well, regarding the user manual you can upgrade the RAM up to 2GB. That means you can put in 1GB module in each memory slot.

The new RAM should have the following specification: DDR-RAM PC2700 (DDR333)
Normally you should find such RAM modules on the Kingston website because I bought DDR-RAM PC2700 last year from Kingston for my older notebook and it works perfectly.

By the way: In the user manual of Satellite P30 you can find useful instructions how to upgrade the RAM.

You have several ways to find out what memory module is compatible and supported.
You can use a diagnostic too like ?Everest?, you will check the user manual or the Toshiba website for details or you will contact the service in your country for supported modules.

I will try to answer the question: The Satellite A50 should support PC2700 DDR-RAM like these parts:
PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

Now it?s your choice. You can also google for the offers

I know the installed memory is DDR2700 (333mhz) but I also would like to know wich brand is already installed and/or which brands/types are aproved by Toshiba.

thx in advance

Answer:Memory upgrade for Satellite A40-261

normally You don't need to bother with brands, MHz'es and stuff like that. If You point out that You want to buy either (recommended) Toshiba original memory option for that model, or a f.ex. use a Kingston 3rd party memory - You just have to say "I have this model, give me a 256, 512 or whatever memory".
It will then work perfect in Your system along with any memory You already have.

Best regards

I have a Toshiba L40-15G with 1GB DDR2 ram (2x512MB). It works at a frequency of 266Mhz.
I want to upgrade to 2GB of ram by going 2x1GB sticks or a 2GB stick.

However, i don't know if the 2GB stick will be accepted on one slot.
Should i buy a 2GB stick or 2 1GB sticks?

And, can the frequency of the new sticks be higher? like 800Mhz/500Mhz?

Message was edited by: Ruixituh

Answer:Memory Upgrade on Satellite L40-15G

The memory module frequency depends on the chipsets FSB (front side bus)
If the FSB is limited to 266Mhz then your modules will run only with 266Mhz even the modules would support a faster speed.

As far as I know the notebook supports the Intel GL960 Express Chipset.
This chipset handles max 2Gb RAM so you could use only 2 x 1GB RAM modules.

I thing the chipset will handle 533Mhz

Is it possible to upgrade the memory for the Satellite A60-218 models?
I've heard that the memory is onboard (internal) and cannot be replaced. Is this true?
If not, could somebody give me a hint where can I find the memory modules on this model?
I have tried disassembling it without success.

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite A60-218

Just for info: Satellite A60 has 512 MB internal memory and one sot only is available for upgrade. This unit can handle with max 1,5 GB of RAM. On the bottom side in the middle there is placed memory module cover. Remove it and you will find RAM slot.

For RAM upgrade you can use follow compatible memory modules:
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

If you have more questions please write again.

Bye and good luck!

Hi, I have a Satellite A60-217 (Intel Pentium IV HT 532 ,3.06GHz), and I would like to upgrade the memory adding a 512 MB to currently installed memory (256MB, with 64MB shared to video card).

I tried to install a 512MB S3+ PC2700 DDR SODIMM module, but system won't boot up: it emits a long whistle, then shuts down automatically. If I remove the module, system boots properly.

The manual reports the supported memory speed is only PC2100. Is this true? Maybe the module is faulty?

Answer:Satellite A60-217 memory upgrade

Hi Stefano

Obviously the added module is not compatible and makes troubles. I have found info that compatible module is PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51).

Google a little bit and you will find a lot of information about module with PA3312U-1M51 part number.

Hi guys

so I've got a Toshiba Satellite A80 and I was hoping to upgrade the memory. I know that it can go up to a max of 2x 1gb slots what I was wondering if you guys could help me out is tell me will any memory chip work or will only some work? I've had experience of a chip not working on it , which I found very strange.

I've done some googling and found something along the lines of PC2100 DDR-RAM specification could somebody explain?

Answer:Satellite A80 - Help for memory upgrade

I have just made a search for your lap specifications and found out that you can upgrade up to 2 gb DDram 533 mhz. So, you can use ddr ram 533 mhz, preferably Kingston memory modules

I have a question about my Toshiba Satellite A30 memory.
I want to upgrade my memory (one chip 256 DDR SoDiMM 333 Mhz PC2700 installed). If I add to the original 256Mb a 512Mb chip will the two work together and is a 512 DDR SoDIMM with a frequency of 400 Mhz compatible with the laptop computer and 256Mb chip?

Answer:Satellite A30 RAM memory upgrade

>If I add to the original 256Mb a 512Mb chip will the two works together?

Yes, both modules will work together. In such case you will have 768MB of main memory.

> is a 512 DDR SoDIMM with a frequency of 400 Mhz compatible with the laptop computer and 256Mb chip

This depends on the front side bus (FSB). As far as I know the A30 supports a 533Mhz FSB. So the 512MM module should run with full 400Mhz speed.

But note; if the 256MM memory module supports only 333Mhz then the faster 512MB module will also run with 333Mhz. The 256MB module will make the second, faster module slower.

Best regards

I have a Satellite Pro R50-B-12u with 4Gb of RAM.
I have purchased an additional 4Gb RAM stick but cannot see how you fit it.

My last Satellite Pro had a memory flap on the back but all I can see on the back is about 20 screws but no flap!

Can somebody please help me or point me in the right direction?

Thanks in anticipation.

Answer:Satellite Pro R50-B-12U and memory upgrade

The Satellite R50 does not contain separate memory bay.
The memory modules and slots are hidden under the bottom cover.

In order to get access to the modules, the bottom cover has to be removed.
But I would not recommend doing this because this would cancel the warranty!!!

I guess your warranty is still valid and in such case only authorized technician should perform such upgrade to keep the warranty valid.

i have upgraded my memory from 2 x 256 mb to 2 x 512 mb, but nothing works. i bought the ram modules compatible to pa3312u-1m151.
this system doesn't boot, nothing happens. after reinstalling the old module, system starts normally.
what can i do?

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite M30-344

If the unit doesn?t start properly it is probably because the new modules are not compatible for this unit.
According the specification you need PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51) RAM module. Please bring your back and buy PA3164U-1M51. Those are tested and they should work properly.

If you use non-compatible RAM module it is logic that system can not recognize it correctly. I do not know who is the manufacturer of this 1 GB RAM module but if you want to use compatible one pick up some info about PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G) or check Kingston web page.

I have a Satellite L30-134 which appears to be running quite slowly - I think due to large amount of photos and itunes music.

I am wondering which is the easiest way to resolve - buy a memory upgrade (no idea how to change the memory though) or get an external hard drive?
And if I change the memory will I lose what is already saved on the laptop?

Answer:Memory upgrade for Satellite L30-134

Sure you can improve performance by upgrading your notebooks memory. The maximum amount of your notebook is 2GB and if you want to buy memory modules, make sure the following specifcations are present:

DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM

An external HDD won't improve performance but keeps your data safe, if you have to reinstall your system. For me, it is best way to store pictures, music videos and stuff like that.

But there are other things to make your machine faster. Depending on your operating system, there are several guides around the internet.

Hey all

Now i have 256MB and i want to add another 256MB memory stick.
Could you please inform me about the type of memory this laptop has?
On the site it says:
System memory standard : 256 MB
maximum expandability : 2,048 MB
technology : DDR2 RAM

A link with such memory would be very helpful.
Also any way to buy online memory?

Best Regards

Answer:Satellite L20-181 memory upgrade

The info that you have is absolutely right. Toshiba has tested this notebook with follow memory modules:
DDR2-400/533 256MB (PA3389U-1M25)
DDR2-400/533 512MB (PA3412U-1M51)

As you can see it is DDR2 memory module and if you use part number (PA?.) at the Google you will find a lot of online offereor where you can order this tested memory. I recommend you to buy original one or maybe Kingston module. On this way you will be sure that new module will be recognized properly.

Of course you can do more then one memory module. On your Satellite notebook there are two slots available and you can put two memory modules. Your notebook can handle with max 2 GB of RAM.

your notebook has 256MB internal memory, I'm not sure why it shows only 192MB. This internal memory can only be replaced by a service technician. But you also have a currently unused memory slot, in which you can place a maximum of 1024MB RAM.

PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)

1) Best 80GB drive to buy.
2) I want to upgrade my memory, who's can I use? (2048MB is the target)
3) Can the modular 2nd drive adaptors still be bought
4) Do the adaptors only let you add an 2.5 inch drive?

Also, anyone got any views on how the P20 (mine has a 3.2 GHZ processor) will handle Vista? I think the graphics card may be a little wussy.

Also, how does the P20 compare with current machines?

Answer:Memory question about Satellite L40-14N

yes, thats correct. The maximum upgradeability of this machine is 2GB. I would recommend you to install 2x1GB modules because the chipset can handle such a configuration better than 1 x 2GB module. Two similar modules for a maximum memory configuration of a machine are always better because the read/write cycles are scattered on both modules which brings def. more performance then just one module which is permanently occupied by the system.

if i use a single module of the new memories, the system is not booting again.

Just want to confirm this realy as I've been caught out once before buying the wrong memory. I have read another thread so am pretty sure I'm ok with this.

Ok the RAM I require for the Satellite Pro A60 upgrade is:
200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700 Unbuffered (Non-ECC) CL2.5

A31CG DDR SODIMM 2700 512M

512MB, 200-pin SODIMM, DDR PC2700 Upgrade for the Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 Series Laptop/Notebook

I don't think 1GIG RAM is necessary for my daughter :-)

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro S200 memory upgrade

Sure it is only 2GB maximum amount? I've read that it is 4GB for the Pro S200-15T, think it should work for yours as well. Maybe you could post exact type.

The specifications are 2x2GB DDR2 SO-DIMM 677Mhz.

To get to the memory slots simply turn your notebook, and in the middle, near the battery pack there is a plastic cover with a little symbol, a memory module to be more precise. Just remove screw and cover and there you have the two slots for your memory.

Okay, I give up! I have sussed out that my Sat 2770XDVD can be upgraded to 256Mb according to the manual, but, (and please don't mock me here) I cannot find where to install it!

On the base of the laptop there is only one small cover which I have removed, but the HDD is in there. There is nothing under the battery, the only other option is to remove the whole base and I'm not brave enough to remove the whole base without checking....

I did search the whole site for a technical manual for the laptop, but can only find a basic manual.

Please help!

Thanks very much.

Answer:Memory upgrade Satellite 2770XDVD

Hi Mav

You are right about RAM upgrading. The max memory for this notebook is 256 MB RAM. Changing or removing RAM module is not so easy because you must remove some another hardware components like keyboard and modem board. You can find it under keyboard at the top of right side.

Mav please be careful because you can damage some another hardware components. It will be better to contact Service partner and let them do this. I am pretty sure that they can do that fast and it can not cost lot of money.

Good luck!

The manual says use only part number PA3126U -1M12: 128 MB. Anyone know where I can get this?

Answer:Memory upgrade for Satellite Pro 6000

Hi Bob

I have found info that compatible memory module for your unit are:
PC133 512MB (PA3108U-1M51)
PC133 256MB (PA3086U-1M25)
PC133 128MB (PA3085U-1M12)

You can order them from service partner in your country and also by some online notebook parts dealer. Google a little bit around and you will find a lot of online stores where you can order them. You can also try by your local dealer.

Sorry for the easy question - I have a Satellite A210-1CO currently with 2gb.
I would like to bump this up to 4gb. Any idea what kind of memory chip I would need, and if possible, any recommended retailers (UK).

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Memory upgrade to 4GB for Satellite A210-1CO

Maybe you should check this page:
[Memory for Toshiba Satellite A210-1C0|]

You need the DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM

But note; the common 32bit OS will not recognize the full 4GB of RAM but only 3.2GB due to the 32bit OS limitation.

I've been given a Satellite P200-12U with 2GB from a friend's friend, and asked to upgrade it to 4GB.
Have bought and installed the memory, but noticed BIOS and WINDOWs still only registered 2GB.
Then went into BIOS

and noticed that options are generally very restricted, and that the memory is shown but not selectable.

Am I right in thinking, that this machine is restricted to 2GB? And can send the 4GB back to the shop?

Thanks for any information.

I have just bought 2 x 1GB memory PC4200 for my L30-134 and installed them they work fine in BIOS, show up and read as they should do, but when windows is booting up it will crash with both modules installed, only ever gets to the screen with the loading bar going across and then I get blue screen.

Forgot to make a note of the error code I am afraid... (Fool I know). If I remove one of the modules and install the original 512 module with just 1 of the 1GB ones it will work fine. BIOS has been updated to the latest 3.10 version and still I get the same problem...
because all seems fine from within BIOS I am thinking that its more likely to be a software (windows) problem of some kind maybe some corrupt data in the registry or a virus maybe... has anybody any ideas?

Also, the laptop is actually my step sons and he really wants to have the CPU upgraded from the Celeron 410 to one that's a little faster. When first looking into this we was told that several CPUs were compatible (although not really worth the hassle of installing) they were cel m 450 2 GHz, pent dual core t2060 and t2080, and also the core duo t2250,so he bought the t2250,and no surprises it wouldn't work, or should I say it powered up with no display and the shut off and just epeated the cycle. So did not take a genius to work out it wasn't compat...

I know the t2080 are used in the L30's and are 1.73 533 FSB with 1MB L2 cache- 65nm and do stepping. The t2250 is identical apart from the L2 cache is 2MB... Read more

Answer:Memory upgrade problems on Satellite L30-134

If you use the search engine of this forum, you'll find some (many) topics about memory problems with L30, and you'll find the answer. L30 series is not compatible with some brands, if you use 2x1 Gb modules. Especially there were problems with Crucial memories. Just check the topics! I have L30-134 (BIOS 3.10) with 2x1 Gb Kingmax 533 Mhz, and I have no problem with it! 2 weeks ago I upgraded my Celeron M410 to Core Duo T2450 (2 Ghz), and it works like a charm! Maybe your CPU is wrong, or something is happened when you installed it. Any question?

I have a P100-160 with 2gb memory installed.
I am using Win7 (32bit) and do some really serious graphics, management and alterations.
I use approx 2.75Tb of attached (USB) hard drives.

Can anyone please let me know if I could reasonably expect to see any performance/reliability improvement by increasing the installed memory.

Any other suggestions (other than buying a new laptop) for performance improvement would be welcomed.

Thank you,

Answer:Satellite P100-160 and memory upgrade

If you are happy with this old piece of hardware you don?t need new notebook. RAM upgrade is OK and you can do this alone. According notebook specification your P100 can be upgraded up to 4GB RAM.

Compatible memory modules for your Satellite are:
1GB (PA3411U-2M1G)
2GB (PA3513U-1M2G)

If you have more questions you are welcome.

Hello everybody,

I'm interested in upgrading my old Satelite 1800-314.
Does anybody know the maximun cpu upgrade for this machine?
Does it support pc133 memory modules or only pc100??

My idea is to upgrade it from the original Celeron 1.1 to a Celeron 1.4 or even a Pentium III Coopermine / Tualatin processor, and add more 256mb to the machine.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite 1800-314: Memory and CPU upgrade

Hello Andre

The CPU upgrade is not possible. The processors used in portables are connected to the system board using a process called TCP (Tape Carrier Package). This is a permanent connection method and is used in the interests of miniaturization and heat dissipation.

Memory expansion is not a problem. You can use PC100 256MB (PA3069U-1M25) memory module.

Hi all,

I am having upgrading the ram on my laptop from 4gb to 8gb. First I will post the full details of my laptop then explain the problem.

(Original Configuration)
Satellite A300D-15B
Model : PSAKCE
Bios Ver: 3.30
AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-86 (Upgraded from ZM-80)
Genuine Windows? Vista? Home Premium 32bit
4096 MB (2048 +2048) PC2-6400 DDR RAM (800MHZ)

Right then, I installed Windows 7 32bit on it ages ago and upgraded the CPU and have never had any issues as i work with computers.

I did some checking and found out my Motherboard supports uo to 8gb of ram and decided to buy two 4gb ram modules. I made sure I got the correct ram for my laptop.

I upgraded the ram and it recognised it without any issue and even stated that 8gb of ram was installed under 'System'in contol panel and in the bios. As it was a 32bit OS it only utilised 3gb of the ram. I then decided to upgrade my OS to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and thats when the fun began.

Basically my laptop will not boot if I have more than 4gb of ram installed (In any configuration) and get a BSOD. I have had a few different Stop Error codes but I cant seem to find a solution. Also there arent any/many options to change in the bios so Im stumped.

I have tested the ram modules with Memtest several times without error and have also tried them in different laptops without issue. I know my laptop suppors the 8gb as I had no issues running the 32bit OS.

You are right. Your mobo can be upgraded with RAM and max RAM for your notebook model is 8 GB.
This info you can find in notebook specification .

Problem is that for upgrade you should use 100% compatible modules. I?m pretty sure there must be some compatibility problem.
Can you please tell us which modules do you use (brand and specification).
For instance: compatible 4GB module for this notebook model has part number PA3670U-1M4G.

I bought the Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1NL from argos yesterday. It came with 4GB of RAM. I want to upgrade it to 8GB. Can anybody help with upgrading process. Also will upgrading the RAM void the warranty.

Answer:Memory upgrade on Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1NL

I?m not L50-B owner but I guess there is no separate access to the memory modules at the bottom of the unit.

In such case its necessary to remove the bottom plastic cover and this will definitely void the warranty!!!

If you want to keep the warranty valid, don?t upgrade the RAM by yourself.
This must be done by authorized service engineer.

I need to upgrade the memory of my Satellite, but I can only find one memory slot... isn't there another one ?

can anyone help me ?

Well, there are two memory slots but only one is upgradeable.
As far as I know the 512MB was standard and the max memory what you can use is 1536MB (512MB + 1024MB)

Unfortunately, you can use 1536MB and more is not possible

hi, guys..I am the proud owner of a Satellite M70-160.
I'm considering upgrading my ram memory ( I have 512 ddr2 at 533mhz)and I woul like another 512 and i've encountered 2 problems. The first one is which one of the toshiba memories is better? I mean they offer 2 types of 512 ddr2 memory PA3412U-2M51 and PA3412U-1M51.

The second question is '' can i use other brands of 512 ddr2 memory modules?'' I mean do they have to be exactly the same as the one that's inside the notebook? Because I've seen other brands that offer 512 ddr2 at 50% of the Toshiba ones.. Actually someone from the main Toshiba dealer in Romania offered me another brand, SILICONE-something..( or something like that).

Thank you very much!

Answer:Satellite M70-160 ram module memory upgrade

I think the two memory modules from Toshiba have the same performance, because they are both PC2-4300. You should also be able to use other modules from the same typ. They are just not tested by Toshiba.

I am trying to upgrade the memory of my toshiba satellite m55-s135 and recently baught a kingston 1 gb ddr2 pc2-5300 chip, however, when I went to install it the chip wouldn't fit into the slot. It seems that the little peg sticking out of the socket and the corresponding recess in the ship don't align.

Does anyone know of a brand of memory which is known to work with Toshibas? Or perhaps what I'm doing wrong?

I could physically force the chip in but I would have to bend one of the memory clips to do it and I would rather just buy a new chip.

Thanks for your help.

Hello nic, welcome to Major Geeks

They will scan your laptop and advise or you can input model details.
I usually recommend Crucial as I have never seen a problem with their products.

Kingston can be good, bad or indifferent. They have a similar product calculator.

Answer:Satellite Pro U200: I want to upgrade memory up to 2GB

Hi Tomasz,

The SP U200 comes with two memory slots and is upgradeable to a total of 4Gb. RAM modules are available in 256Mb, 512Mb, 1GB and 2Gb sizes. The RAM modules are normally accessible from underneath the notebook but for specific details I suggest you check your user manual which will have full instructions for how to locate, remove and replace them.

Please be particularly careful to avoid any static electricity when you access the RAM modules since they are very sensitive and easily damaged.

You can find more information about the available RAM modules here :-

I have a Toshiba Satellite U840 10M with 4GB of RAM and I want to upgrade to 8GB. Can anyone tell me where I can find information on how to install an extra memory module?

Thank you,

Answer:Satellite U840 10m - Memory Upgrade

You can use DDR III SDRAM 4GB 204-pin SO-DIMM memory modules
You can use DDR3 1333MHz or 1066Mhz modules?
But the memory speed depends on FSB (front side bus)
If FSB would support only 1066Mhz, the 1333Mhz modules would be clocked down.

The upgrade is little bit tricky because the whole plastic cover at the bottom of the unit needs to be removed. Its secured by 13 screws. So you need to remove all the 13 screws to be able to remove the cover and to get access to the memory.
As far as I know you could loose the warranty removing the cover? so would ask a service guy to do this job for you.

I purchased a satellite L300 in august 08 in Australia. It came with a single 1Gb memory module which is now inadequate.
I obtained 2 x 2Gb modules but cannot get it to work with both fitted. Bios reports 4Gb fitted but Vista reboots the first time then blue screens. Ubuntu Linux hangs after loading HAL.

If only one module fitted it works OK and it does not matter which module is used.

Any info on this would be most appreciated.

Answer:Satellite P70-A-125 - 16GB memory upgrade

According notebook specification you can upgrade your notebook up to 32GB.

Compatible RAM modules have follow part numbers:
4GB DDR3-1600 - PA5037U-1M4G
8GB DDR3-1600 - PA5037U-1M8G

I strongly recommend you to use these tested and 100% compatible modules. I have very good experience with Kingston modules. They cost maybe a bit more but they are recognized properly and work without any problems.
Use part numbers and check the specification and prices.

I have a L305 running Vista 32bit SP1.

It came with 2GB of DDR2 6400 memory (two 1GB sticks). I have upgraded to 4GB using two 2B sticks) Is there something else I have to do to get win to utilize the extra memory.

I have seen plenty debates about 32bit will only handle between 3-3.5 GB total. I'm no worried about that. My system is still only using the factory 2GB. I have gone into the BIOS. however I see nothing importantthat I can change. I'm confussed. Where is the clock speeds memory allocations etc.

Is there a trick to this or have I just flushed $$$ down the toilet.

Hi guyz,

Actually the chipset of the notebook (intel 845) can support 2GB of memory, but I'm a little bit confused: is the information reported in the toshiba manual correct? Or can I install 2GB?
Thank in advance

Answer:Memory UPgrade for satellite 2450-401

Hi Luca

I must be honest to you and in this case I believe that information in Toshiba manual I correct. It is possible that it can work but you must be careful with this. If there is guarantee from that it will work properly you can buy it. In other way install just maximum size mentioned in Toshiba manual. It will be work properly because it is already tested.
