I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
My laptop cannot tell me any post after the Toshiba logo just black screen. Cannot get into the bios or anything... These are the things I have tried:
Taken hard drive out,
Taken ram out and only tried one..
Taken Battery Cmos battery out for a few minutes..
Had a look at the motherboard and fan is not even working when I turn it on..
I have taken the cpu and put it back in..
Defiantly Sounds like the motherboard problem but want to know if its just a chip that needs to be replaced and soldered.. If anyone has any ideas that will be awesome.

Thanks

It all began when i was using my laptop and the screen suddenly went black for no apparent reason. it didn't look the screen turned off because it was still lit up. The next day when i was booting up my computer the same thing happened, but it happened while i was booting up. So I held down the power button to shut down and turned it on again but this time nothing came up on the screen.I doubt it's a hardware issue as the screen sometimes shows up, even if i don't move the laptop an inch. But each time the screen still turns it self off. After some googling I found this post which was somewhat similar to my problem but im not too sure.Any help would be much appreciated

Hey everyone. I just inherited a Dell Latitude running XP SP2, with a P4 1.60GHz and 1GB of RAM.

I recently wiped it, re-installed windows XP, got the latest BIOS for it (A13), and have it running pretty smoothly for a fairly old laptop.

However, there is one very annoying thing about it. If its been running awhile... a few hours maybe... and then restart it, it will get past the XP logo 'load up' screen and then just go black.

I've tried scouring the internet for the reason for this, but i have a hunch its either a) i installed something that it can't handle, or b) its an old laptop, and once it gets a bit hot, it can't handle loading XP.

...however, it can get into safe mode very easily, even when it can't get into XP.
What are your suggestions?

Thanks!

Answer:Portege 7010ct shows Toshiba logo then screen goes black

Hello

Can you start the unit in safe mode? Which operating system you use? Are you using it for a while or is this first start after installation.

Please write a little bit more. If you give more info and detailed description it is easier to understood what the problem can be.

Hello,

I have a toshiba satellite pro m70-113.

Sometimes when my notebook goes off to standby automatically, due to inactivity, and then if i press some keyboard key to try to wake it up nothing happens and i have no other choice but to shut it down by pressing the power button for 5 sec.
But when i restart it works ok, i.e it starts fine.

But today, when in a similar situation, I restarted the notebook the screen wont move after the toshiba screen logo. I did power on several times but no success. It just hangs on the toshiba screen logo.

After some restarts I pressed the escape button while restarting and the toshiba logo screen changed to bios POST texts.
And I found that the text wont proceed after reaching:
Found Disk 0:
maybe meaning HDD initialisation failure..
The captured image is here::
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/9986/image007sp2.jpg

Note: this is a capture when, i don't know how the system just started working fine and can be seen that the HDD is detected normally this time. While earlier it wont proceed after reaching "Found Disk 0:"

So, the problem was that at the time of problem, the hdd was not being read/initialised or something like that.

And i remember that when i was trying to restart my notebook and it wasn't working. It was running on battery and when I switched on to AC mains it worked.

So this relates to some problem that was fixed in a bios update, though for another notebook (see post by laufendspass) i... Read more

Answer:Satellite Pro M70-113 not booting up - it hangs at logo screen

Hi Ashish,

The fact that the initial POST process cannot access your hard drive would suggest that there is a possible problem with the drive, possibly it is not spinning up correctly when power is applied to it. The contents of the drive should be O.K. so I suggest you take a good backup of your system (or at least your personal data) if you can manage to get your notebook to boot up successfully.

I don't think a BIOS update will have any bearing on this since the problem does not seem to have a definite 'trigger' and if the BIOS cannot access the hard drive then it hardly matters which version of the BIOS you are using.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1BZ Blank screen after Toshiba logo

Windows may be corrupted. Have you tried booting from a Bootable CD? For example, try the Memtest ISO from www.memtest.org

Directly after you see the Toshiba logo, press F8 a few times to access the Windows Boot Menu, and try booting into Safe Mode.

If you can get into safe mode, run CHKDSK C: /F to check for file system errors, then reboot normally.
If that doesnt work, then go back into Safe Boot and restore the PC back to a previous state using System Restore.

Hello! C:

My Satellite A500-1F7 doesn't start up anymore- when I try to turn it on, the Toshiba-logo appears, but a few seconds later, the screen goes completely blank. If I press F2 while the logo is still shown on screen, the setup menu opens. F12 works as well.

At first I thought my laptop just needed a new battery, since it had been urging me to change it for quite some time and the battery-led was out. Now I got a new battery - still doesn't work.
If anybody has an idea, what the reason might be or what I could do to fix it, please help me!
Sadly, I am a total computer-noob.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read all this!

Answer:Satellite A500-1F7 - after Toshiba-logo the screen goes completely blank

Oh my gosh!
*Update:* The CPU fan suddenly turned on, so I decided to wait and see. After about an hour, a loading bar and "? Microsoft Corporation" appeared on the screen. Also, my laptop made very high-pitched bleeping noises. And now, another 37 minutes later, it seems to be back to normal.

Hello, I have this problem with Toshiba satellite A300.

I deleted many files and folders from my C and E drives. On restarting the computer, it only shows the Toshiba logo then a blank screen slightly gray on close inspection. Whenever I press the CRL + ALT + DEL keys, the computer restarts and behaves in the same manner.

I have tried using an external monitor but there is no difference. On trying to boot using a CD/DVD, same behaviour happens, it won't boot from it and screen remains blank after the Toshiba logo, I have even tried changing g the boot order but to no avail.

What could be happening?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Re: satellite A300 screen goes blank after toshiba logo, won't boot from CD/DVD

Hi,

It looks like you removed system folders and Windows doesn't boot anymore. Have you tried to restore the factory settings from hdd image or recovery disk? Or make Windows copy installation... It's easier to reinstall it rather fixing the problem.

Help,

my F10 is totally stuck and doesn't run anymore. After starting, the display stays black and the fan begins to run wildly, after a while the toshiba sound comes up but nothing else happens. No windows, nothing at all, only the wild running fan of the notebook.

Before this happened I shut down the computer normally. We have about 26 or 27 degrees celsius in our office room today, but I didn't register any overheat in my computer. Something strange: I registered since a few days, that after having started, only the toshiba sound came up but no symbols of toshiba on the screen as usual.

My question is: what can I do?

Answer:Qosmio F10: black screen at booting - No Toshiba screen

The same happened with my F10-36. Monitor shows green vertical lines when I turn it on, later
"Qosmio" words run one moment and screen became black with white points and cursor on the top.
That is all. As I noticed many people complain for such problem. Seems motherbord of this notebook
is not ok originally.

Hi, Last week some gray lines began to appear on the screen, until you get to a completely gray screen and the PC block. Now when I turn on the PC and the HP logo disappears the screen remains black. The video card drivers were updated. I did a hardware diagnostics and the problem is the video card:ERROR ID: GLGCXH-7AR89J-X87R61-Q2QA03. Video card: Radeon R9 270 I tried to set from bios the integrated video card as the default but the computer still reads the dedicated video card. Then I removed the video card and now the pc reads the integrated video card properly and the PC working well.I also used an old video card and computer turns on properly, so the motherboard should not be damaged. I removed all drivers and I reinstalled them, but the dedicated video card didn't work. At the moment i don't have another pc to test the video card. Any help would really be appreciated.

Hi,
my M40 sometimes stops booting after the Toshiba Screen. It stops and all I can see is the flashing cursor. No Error-Message or something else and normal booting from HDD. Booting from CD (eg. Knoppix) works. This problem only occurs sometimes and isn?t traceable for me.

Best Regards
Spoony

Answer:Satellite M40 - 129 stops booting after Toshiba Screen

Hi Spoony

Unfortunately on this way it is not easy to say why this happen. Every user has individual OS configuration and we don?t know how your OS is configured.

Can you start OS in ?safe mode?? If yes check a little bit what the problem can be. If there is nothing that you can do I recommend you to save all your data and preinstall unit using recovery media. If you do this I also recommend you to create two partitions.

Don?t compare WXP and Linux booting procedure. Like you know Knoppix uses just RAM and not HDD for running.

Hey everyone,

I have spent hours scouring the Internet to see if anyone has had a similar problem, and found nothing.

When I turn on my laptop, I hear the fan start up and the screen boots to the Toshiba loading screen - and stays there.

I have tried a power drain and trying to bring up a menu with F8, but neither worked.

Because I did not hear the usual hard drive noise I assume there is a problem with the HD. Can anyone suggest what to try? If the hard drive is out I don't know if a system restore disk or USB would work. I also read that I might try removing the RAM but I'm not sure how that would help.

I bought my computer in the USA but live in France now, so sending it back to the USA for repair would be very costly. I also left my warranty info and recovery disk in the USA like a fool. I will be back for the holidays but that is a long time to go without my computer!

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Eskko

Answer:Satellite P500 is not booting - stops at Toshiba screen

This is not conclusive of HDD failure but can you access the Bios and see a HDD?

Can you boot from your system recovery cd? - It should enable you to check if the hdd is visible.

A new 2.5" hdd is not expensive (doesn't need to be Toshiba) and takes 5mins to install.

That at least gets me to believe maybe a wire is just loose and not the graphics or motherboards. I just need some directions on were to go from here.

Answer:Toshiba satellite screen went black ?

It sounds like a disk error or start-up error - take it back if it's still on warranty because you probably need to reformat (delete everything) and reinstall Windows.

Alright, so im not sure if this is software or hardware issue, but my satellite restarted for an update about a week ago and turned back on with a black screen. I tried taking the battery out, pressing the power button for 60 seconds, restarting it, starting in it safe mode, factory resetting it on startup. Nothing. Sometimes the fan will be running, then the machine stops. Sometimes it will just run and stay on the black screen. Sometimes it will start up and the power button wont even be lit, but the fans, and the led for caps lock will be on. Is it time for a new computer, or is there a way to fix this?

Hi everyone, I'm very sorry if this has been asked and answered before. I have a Toshiba Satellite L305 series laptop running windows vista home premium. Last week I got a blue screen that I didn't read in time so I don't know what it said, and then it shut down. I tried to restart it but only get to a black screen with a moveable white arrow. I tried using windows startup repair, it gives me a white bar at the bottem that says loading files then the windows copyright screen but then just does the same thing and goes back to the black screen. I've tried booting in safe mode, booting with last known good configuration, and system recovery. I've also tried using a recovery disc, that I had to buy from toshiba b/c I lost my disc in a move, to no avail just the same black screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW when I put the recovery disc in you can hear the disc spinning and the fans working until it gets to the windows copyright page then everything dies down and black screen time.

When I turn on my laptop it brings up the usual Toshiba screen with the option to choose F2 or F12, (neither of these have helped) the next screen is just black with the flashing cursor in the top left hand corner. Nothing else happens after this. I leave it (hoping it'll work) but just turns off and on again and repeats the process!

Any help will be really appreciated as Toshiba helpline are now very helpfully closed until Monday when I'm at work!

After HDD replacement I could install new OS and could boot the OS properly.

Should check if the HDD is ok.

Hi there, I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 and just today I've encountered a frustrating problem. Let's just get a few things out first.

I had intended to turn it off last night, but it didn't shut down. There was some message about a program still opened or something like that (not a big deal I thought as I had gotten it a few times before). I just clicked whatever it was that ended it or turned it off anyways. So today I come back to turn it on and it was on that message. I turn it off and come back later to turn it on. I noticed there was a black screen and I could not do anything. I hold the power button to turn it off and restart it. It loads the Toshiba/Phoenix screen fine. Then I get to the Windows Recovery screen. It gives me two options.

- Use the Windows Recovery thing to try to find and repair any errors
- Start Windows normally

I tried the first option a few times but it said there was an unspecified problem due possibly to some hardware configurations (did not do anything before). I restarted and pressed F2 and looked for anything that might have caused it and I exited without saving any changes (Toshiba/Phoenix thing) and then it led me to the screen with the Safe Mode and other options. I chose Safe Mode just to see and it led me to the log-in screen, but after that it would not let me see those same options again. Anyways, I would start normally and at the loading screen, the bar would load but there is no Vista logo. After that, there's ... Read more

Dear all,

I have Toshiba Satellite M70, I need help and i will describe my problem:

- Few days ago my screen went black suddenly, i don't know how cause i was away from the laptop.
- Until yesterday, when i boot my laptop, it gives me black screen all the time but when i put him in standby mode by closing the notebook for few seconds and then i click the on button, my screen starts displaying fine until my next reboot and i start all over again ( i usually keep my notebook working almost 18 hours which means there's a lot of time to my next reboot)
- But Today, I booted too many times , it gives me black screen and the standby mode doesn't work anymore. But few times today when i was trying to boot, the screen displayed the Toshiba screen for only 1 second then gone black again.

P.S. You can see hardly threw the black screen everything if there is a sunlight facing the laptop.

Thank you in advance,
Best regards,
Mr. Mher Krikorian

Answer:Black Screen on boot- Toshiba Satellite M70

This is very useful info?
I think the issue is related to the FL inverter?
The FL-inverter is a small part which controls the display backlight.
If this part starts to malfunction then you would see everything like behind a thick fog?

In my opinion the FL inverter should be checked and replaced if necessary?
For that you have to get in contact with an local service technician?

Hi everyone. Im new here and was wondering on, how do i get the screen back, as I've just changed the screen ribbon on toshiba c660 as my old ribbon had broken wires. Everything works and can hear the fan etc but no screen. I noticed though that if i shine a light on the screen i can see the background. Im not computer minded but need help. Thanks

Answer:toshiba satellite c660 black screen on xp

Hi mw_86 and welcome to TSG.

Have you tried an external Monitor ? I would do that first if possible and if it's display is good carry on below.

With those symptoms if that model has an Inverter I would try switching it with a known working one.
You should find some on Ebay. (I've had good luck even with used ones).

If it does have an Inverter it could be the backlight instead but that's usually much more difficult to replace.

If it's an LED model (ie no Inverter or Backlight) I would guess either the LEDs have failed or they aren't getting power from the motherboard.

Above computer turns on, battery is good, fan spins, but the hard drive does not spin. I hit ESC, F1, F-whatever to see if I can get it to boot into setup, nothing happens. I put a bootable diagnostics disk in the DVD/CD drive and it spins, but nothing happens on the screen. I hooked up a monitor to see if it was the screen, but the monitor doesn't receive a signal. So, I'm thinking it could be two or three bad things. Bad hard drive, but why wouldn't it boot into setup and why is there nothing on the screen? Bad motherboard? That would explain everything, I think. Bad CMOS? Any help with diagnostics here?

I bought a VGA cable to connect my laptop to my TV in order to mirror what ever is on my laptop screen. My TV did not pick up anything when I checked the Sources.

I opened the "Action Centre" on my laptop and selected "Project". I changed the current setting of "Duplicate" to "Second Screen Only", this caused my laptop screen to go black when the VGA cable was connected. When I disconnected the VGA cable my laptop screen came back on. This frustrating because I want to change it back to "Duplicate" but it is impossible to navigate while the VGA cable is plugged in because of the black screen.

note that when i changed it to "second Screen Only" my TV still did not pick up my laptop.

Answer:Black screen on my toshiba satellite latop

If Safe Mode continues to run without crashing or shutting down, there is nothing wrong with the hard drive. A faulty hard drive or motherboard would affect Safe Mode just the same as Normal Mode. When Safe Mode runs okay, but Normal Mode does not, it is usually caused by a bad or incompatible device driver that you've recently installed, or some incompatible software that you've recently installed of the types listed below:Third-party Firewall software.Antivirus software.CD/DVD burning software.Virtual CD software. If you can remember recently installing a driver or any of the above software types, uninstall it in Safe Mode. Then try starting Windows normally.

OK first off I'm sorry that this ends up being my first post. I work in IT as my day job but I know more about the quirks of machines I've been dealing with for years. Anyway I have a friend with a Toshiba Satellite A665-S5176x and it will look like it's booting fine and then it shows nothing but a cursor and a black background. BEFORE any of you suggest anything please look over what I've done (listing in order)

1. Tried to boot in safe-mode (same thing)
2. Tried window 7 disk (wouldn't show anything besides black screen...so no system repair)
3. Tried to boot normally and the PC BSOD'd and then rebooted...then blank screen
4. removed HDD and put it in my laptop where it booted just fine (so not a software issue)
5. Looked for mini-dump to see if BSOD info was present...no such luck
5. since I had my HDD out anyway I put it in the toshiba to see what would happen, it black screen'd as well.
6. reset bios to default...nothing changed

At some point I saw an error mentioning a hardware failure but I don't remember when I saw it. More importantly if anyone has any other suggestions I'm willing to try them. I'm at a loss here

Answer:Toshiba Satellite always boots to a black screen

So you get the usual POST and then it just goes to the wonderful Black Hole of Death, right?

No other messages whatsoever.... but at least eliminated the inverter (backlight) as being toast since you did get POST.

Ideas:

Reseat the RAM and clean the contacts.

Clean the inside of the laptop out including all the fans + intakes of dust bunnies.

I'd remove the CPU heatsink and redo the thermal paste with Artic MX-4 (best available), same for the chipset's heatsink if applicable.

I would put in a trusty Linux Live CD (I use Linux Mint's) and of course set the bios to boot off the DVD drive and see if that WORKS or not. [If it can't handle that, then you know it's a shot motherboard, which is the likely scenario, since the video is integrated.]

Could check the voltage on the power supply with a multimeter, also, make sure it's not shot.

See where you are at after those things.....

This laptop has given me issues prior to this occurrence and I am hesitant to go ahead and use the warranty on it if this issue is fixable.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hello,

My Toshiba Laptop is stuck at black screen after I was disassembling it. I was opening it because I accidently resetted the bios security settings to default. Suddenly the bios password box is opening while booting and wants a password. After searching the Internet I found out that my laptop wants the supervisor password which I don't own. Couldn't call Toshiba Support because I temporarily have no phone. So I decided to open the laptop to reset the CMOS. Removed the battery and fully disassembled the laptop till the motherboard was naked. Then I found the CMOS jumpers. But there where four of them and I couldn't find any instructions for four jumpers so I decided to close the device. After fully reassembling it I turned it on and the screen was all black. Only the white LED was on and the light round the power button. Tried many instructions from the Internet again but nothing works. Not even the USB ports seem okey cause when I insert a stick in all of them the lights for 'stick is working' are out (my USB sticks got LED's) Then I linked my laptop via HDMI to a friends TV. No signal. I'm crushed. Help me pls!!!!!!!!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Radius Laptop black screen

Try an external monitor on it as first step.If you never ever see anything at all on the screen then it is almost certainly a hardware fault but what happens on the external will tell us more. Also let us know whether the computer "appears to start" or not (lights, fan sounds etc).Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi,
I have a toshiba satellite a70 and i am having the following problem. When the laptop shuts down or even restarts, on the screen where the bios appears, it is black. Let me see if i can clarify. The computer turns on or restarts but the screen is black. I can hear the fans come on, all of the indication lights are on, but the screen remains black. I thought that it might be an LCD hardware prob, so I waited 10 min to see if i can at least here it logging into windows, I even connected it to a seperate monitor. Nothing happens. Here's the kicker. If I were to shut down the laptop and then remove the power cable from the back of the laptop and then turn it back on, it would work fine. It seems as though the computer is not shutting down properly?

Please help, Thanks in advance

I just installed 4GB of matched Crucial memory (had 256MB). Everything was fine for about a day; left the computer running for about 1/2 hour and when I came back...black screen. Nothing. Finally had to shut down using the power button.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Operating system is XP with pack 3 installed.

Thanks,

Don

Will the system boot properly if the new momory is removed and original memory inserted into system. Also what type memory did you installed (clock speed,SDRAM,etc)

The maximum amount for this particular model is 2GB referring to the Toshiba website.

Hello! After going into hibernation mode, Toshiba Satellite A505-s69803 no longer boots, only slightly powers up and has a black screen with no cursor.

Have tried unplugging power adapter and removing battery, holding power button down for over 60 seconds, then re-plugging in adapter and attempting to boot up. Power button lights up, fan starts, cd/dvd player clicks, then just black screen. No beeps, no messages or errors on screen. Power indicator and adapter indicator below keyboard light up faintly white. Battery indicator goes orange momentarily if I put the battery back in.

Can anyone help wih ideas or resolutions? Would really like to try to bring this machine back to life to get some recent non-backed up photos and other data off it.

Thank you!!

hello,

I am having a very annoying issue with my toshiba satellite L755-S5216. It boots up fine but sometimes while im doing work on the computer(just normal schoolwork and such) the screen will go black with a redish line that flickers on the left side of the screen. The only way to fix it is to do a shutdown holding the power button. Is there anyway to fix this...or is it just the inverter that i have read on a few posts on this site?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite A200 - After Toshiba screen the display does black

Hi

Normally after the Toshiba screen the notebook tries to boot from HDD.

It could be a HDD issue but I?m not sure. Have you checked the BIOS if the HDD is recognized properly?
What happens if you load the default settings in BIOS?
Did you test and external monitor?

Last but not least it would be interesting to know if you can boot from another device, for example CD/DVD drive.

Today my laptop (windows 8.1) ran out of battery. Later when it was charged again, only a black screen with a cursor appears. Additional the power button does not work. When I press the power button the laptop does not shut down nor boot again, just the black screen with the cursor appears again. Alt+Ctrl+Del does not work either... I don't know what I can do else. Can anybody solve this problem?
Thank you very much for your help

Answer:toshiba satellite u920t black screen with cursor

Press and hold the power button - does it turn off and on again ?
if so do three times in quick succession - this should trigger the repair your computer screen - select start up repair - see if this solves the problem.
If you can't get to that point do you have a windows DVD?

Hey
I've got a Problem with my Toshiba Satellite L775D-107 and I hope you can help me.
Since yesterday my Laptop shows a black screen. When I'm pushing the start button nothing happens but you can hear that it is airing but nothing more. a couple of hours before I was working on it in Uni and everything was fine.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and I read in the internet that it could help to get the battery out for 3 minutes and then push F2 and the start button. Nothing happend, but after 2 hours i tried starting it again and suddenly it started properly and worked flawlessly.
.
Now I'm having the same problem again and I tried the same procedure but still nothing is happening. Still the black screen and just the sound of air coming out...

I've got very important documents from Uni on this laptop so I hope you can help me.

Thank you in advance.

I'm running Windows XP 32-bit. It boots up and I get the screen that asks if I want to boot in as normal, as last good config, as safe modes, etc. All of these yield the same result: After the XP logo screen comes and goes, where there should be the blue login screen with all the usernames to pick from, there is instead a completely blank, black screen with only the cursor visible. I don't know what could have caused this, last night I logged off correctly through the Start Menu > Shut Down. The last time I encountered this problem I had done a hard shutdown.

To fix it, I first tried to run chkdsk /r, but that got really slow around 50%, moving at roughly 8-10 minutes per 1%. I cancelled that, and did a chkdsk /p instead, which completed but did not solve anything. So I did a repair install, and while the XP loading screen goes by faster now (it used to take longer than it should), the blank, black screen is still there.

There is roughly 1.2GB of space left on that hard drive. I don't know if this is a problem. I normally delete files as I see necessary when the drive is getting full. I tried to use Knoppix to get into the drive to delete some files but it didn't let me delete anything.

Any ideas on what I should do? Should I just let chkdsk /r run for a few hours?

Answer:Black screen where XP login should be. Booting issue.

Toshiba Satellite L455D takes 10 minutes to pass initial booting screen
I have a Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976 that takes about 10 minutes to start. It is not a Windows issue because its way before windows start loading. It happens on the first screen where the Toshiba logo is, it gives me the option of setup with F2 and boot with F12 but even by pressing them it takes the same amount of time to enter both. Once that screen is past windows works great, it loads in matter of seconds. The computer is completely usable, the only thing is that I have to wait 10 minutes before star using it xD.. This is what I have done to try to resolve the problem with no success.
1. Change hard drive for another working (both are working)
2. Change ram
3. Cleaning Laptop and re-applying high quality thermal paste
4. Updating Bios to newer version
5. Unplugged modem and wifi card
6. Start laptop with nothing connected (HD, WIFI and modem)
7. Reinstalling windows (It installs correctly)

Hi. I'm basic computer user posting on behalf of my grandad who lives several hours away. I've been trying to help him by phone but no success so far.

He has Toshiba Satellite L350D running Windows 7. For several days he's met black screen on startup. He's tried a few online suggestions (that I found via Google) that didn't help (hold power 30 secs, hold power 60 secs, remove battery, external monitor, several function keys). A couple of times he found tapping f11 during startup enabled him to use laptop, but that way has since failed to work.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Toshiba Satellite L655D-S5109

A month ago was having issues with infinite start up loop after bad updates install. Couldn't even get into the command prompt for a while but then was able to and followed the "How to Recover from an Infinite Looping Startup Repair Loop without Reinstalling Windows" guide that I found on here and it worked. Got all of my personal files off then after a couple weeks decided to do a factory reset because it was starting to run slow at times.

Two nights ago had more updates from Windows and when I turned it on it said something didn't download correctly. It did a disk check and then was fine except ran slow when it booted up for a few minutes. Today when turning it on it gives options of running StartUp Repair which does the Windows loading files screen then goes to a black screen with the cursor icon. Also gives the Start Windows Normally option which gets stuck on the opening Windows icon and never moves.

All F8 options end up with black screen with cursor and the kicker is that I attempted factory reset twice now and it goes to a black screen with cursor as well. I don't have a recovery disk or any other Windows media.

Is there anything else I can try (tried taking the battery out too and holding down power button) or is this laptop toast? Thanks and let me know if you need any other system specs.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite - black screen of death and can't even factory reset

I would say that you have a disk problem.
If you do have a Win (7, 8 or 10) installation disk, boot with it, go to repair, launch command prompt and then type chkdsk C: /f.

I was Working on my Toshiba A300 when suddenly Microsoft Security Essentials Detected a Threat, After Cleaning it asked me to reboot my laptop, After Restart , it only shows the TOSHIBA screen with the F2 and F12 options, but after that, nothing else happens. There's only a black screen, not even a cursor or anything.

Nothing else happens, I tried To Insert Win 7 bootable Disc to Repair the OS but my laptop does not seem to boot through the Disc, I checked boot order in BIOS settings, But still nothing, it doesn't accept the Disc/USB nothing at all, it even doesn't go into safe mode while pressing F8 key just keeps making BEEP sound when i press any keys regularly, i am stuck & pointless what to do, kindly Help.

Disconnect AC power supply, remove battery and press power button for 20 seconds. After doing this leave it for a while, connect AC power supply only and try to start your notebook again.

Opened my daughter's laptop this morning and it seems like the LCD has "dissolved" in the left bottom of the screen. There's no identation on the screen or any sign of damage. The liquid crystal just seemed "smeared" or something in the corner. Any thoughts? I'm not a technie so sorry if I don't know all the terminology... I purchased this for her for Christmas at Office Depot so it's only a few months old. Please help! Thanks mucho!

Answer:Issue with Toshiba Satellite Screen

The LCD screen could have been damaged by placing a heavy object on the top of the closed laptop or by bumping or dropping. It doesn't take much... The LCD panel might be under warranty. Its worth checking into. Otherwise, it is expensive to replace. They cannot be repaired

I have a relatively good PC but I do not think it is a hardware problem. So when I turn on my computer the HP logo shows up in normal timing (so is this not a BIOS problem), it sits on the HP logo for about 3-5 minutes, screen goes black for about 15 minutes, HP logo comes back for about 2 minutes then I get an orange windows 10 colour theme saying "Please wait" and the lock screen comes up ready to log in, after this everything is normal, basically its very slowing getting to the lock screen.

A few specifics i've noticed, my mouse has LEDs this turns on and off about 4 times around the second HP logo appearance. The lock screen is usually synced to my laptops lock screen, and it changes reguraly however it is not anymore and does not change either, its a picture of a Medevil Iron Helmet (which is quite spooky, I havent bothered to change it or see if this is a picture from Microsoft).

Yesterday I was also about to do a safe-mode boot but the computer turned off, I did however leave my computer untouched for at least 5 minutes but it wasn't a shutting down screen it just turned off. I also doubt it is to do with cooling as I can still play games without any problems.

UPDATE: In my start-up processes there is a file name called Program, no publisher, start-up impact isn't measured but it is enabled, when I right click I can only Disable it or search online. How can I find its file location so I can remove it?

Answer:Slow boot up (High-end PC): HP logo shows, black screen, HP logo again

Rather than delete can I suggest a rename.

Further if you think this "malware" I would be scanning with tools and letting them address. MalwareBytes is one recommendation. You can look in the AntiVirus section for others.

I would also run a chkdsk on the drive with no repair parameters to see if it notes anything. Finally as a test I would disable Fast Startup.

Hi,

i have a problem with my A300: when i try to reboot from sata hdd i only see the black screen...

If i try to boot from ide/atapi CD/DVD-RW with XP installation cd (F12 to choose cd drive), Ubuntu live cd, any other boot cd it won't boot and i see always black screen. The hard disk is correctly seen by BIOS, i can read/write data on it with an external sata-usb cable and it can also boot from another notebook usb port!

If the sata hdd is removed the A300 can regularly boot with no problem from the CD/DVD-RW!

I also try to put the sata hdd in the second bay but with no result, the 2nd hdd is inserted in the excluded boot device. Anyone can help me?

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite A300 PSAJ4E - Black screen booting from SATA HDD

Hi

> If the sata hdd is removed the A300 can regularly boot with no problem from the CD/DVD-RW!

Did you change the HDD or the CD/DVD drive in the past?
As far as I know not all CD/DVD drives are compatible due to different master/slave/c-selc settings.
So usage of wrong CD/DVD drive could cause such issue?

Furthermore it could be also a controller problem on the motherboard.
But try to set the BIOS to default settings. For this you have to access the BIOS and then have to press F9 (I guess). Save the changes and check it again.

The laptop will begin the boot process but stop at the windows logo with the HDD lights flashing like it is booting up but the screen is black with the mouse pointer only showing.

Hitting the power button to restart the boot process may have the same result or it may boot to windows. Sometimes this can take 3 or 4 start attempts to get into windows.

_I have found the fault_ and from reading many forum posts I understand this is huge problem for many people who have blamed both Toshiba and windows 7.

They are all wrong; the problem is not a HDD problem or an operating system problem.
*The problem is ?memory?.*

These computers were given to children free via PC Suppliers designated by the government. Eligible persons had a choice of several suppliers who were contracted to supply eligible children with these machines. The company who supplied our Toshiba ?Positive IT Solutions? boasted their machines were holding a larger ram capacity and therefore customers were tempted to go for their deal, and why not with 2gigs available instead of just 1 gig?

What Positive IT Solutions did was simply add another 1 gig chip. What they should have done was to remove both chips and replace both as a pair because it is the memory chip they added that is causing these boot up problems and making it look like either the laptop hardware or windows 7 is to blame. This problem is incompatible memory chips and made so only by the supplier company adding their own single chip in... Read more

Issue:

From a cold boot, the system gets past the POST screen. Boot sequence is successful up until after the Windows 10 loading screen, of which inconsistently (1 out of 7 attempts average) results in a black screen afterwards. Monitors do not detect input. All fans are spinning ? system is non-responsive to any input afterwards (keyboard is not lit up).

System was newly built 3 months ago. Thoroughly stability tested and ran issue free for 2 months (this issue has been happening in the past month).

Specs:

* Windows 10
* RAM @ 3200Ghz
* EVGA 750W B2
* Ryzen 1600 @ 3.75Ghz
* MX 200 SSD
* GTX 1070
* MSI B350 Tomahawk

Troubleshooting:

Only workaround so far is to perform a forced shutdown via power button and turn the system back on (and hope for the best). So far, the issue has not persisted twice in a row on boot attempts.

I had a thought to downclock the CPU to default (and RAM) as well, however I would figure that with instabilities, they would not allow the system to POST. In addition, the issue appears to be new.

I also have Event Viewer Logs from ?System? events available as needed ? not sure where to upload these if they are helpful.

Any ideas on what the issue might be?

Thanks!

I'd run memtest86 on your RAM to make sure that all is ok, let it run for like 5 full tests. Reseat RAM and make sure Jaws are locked to RAM. You can even try with a single stick of RAM to see if the problem completely vanishes to know if your on the memory issue path or not.Other causes of a black screen is a power supply that has a low voltage rail, so you can try a different power supply if you have one available.Lastly is I'd suspect the motherboard only because I have had horrible experiences with MSI brand boards failing.

Hello,

in the beginning of December I bought the above notebook as second hand.

The fomer owner told me that after a Windows 10 update (original OS was Win 8) the Notebook shut down and for him it was not possible to get access neither to the operating system nor to the BIOS. He said he had tried it with all known key combinations.

I have to note, that the notebook came with a non-original HDD (a 320 GB Toshiba HDD) and a non-original power supply (Fujitsu AC Adapter with 4.22A/19V).

Back at home I tried myself several ways to get access to the BIOS (pressing F2, FN+F2, F8, F12 and futher more), but I have not been successful.
Connecting the notebook with a external display gave no signal.

I already thought that I got a complete defektive notebook, although the LED on the frontside were glowing, the battery was obviously charging and the cooling fan startet. The DVD drive also blinked after pressing the power button. Funnily enough the "Num Lock" light was glowing green and I was not able to eliminate it.

So frustrated I put the notebook aside.

At Christmas I startet a second try. Again I tried several key combinations (I think the last one was Window key + Power) and sudeenly the "Leading innovation" logo came and after that a message concerning "RTC".
I got access to the BIOS an edited the date and time.
After that it was possible to reboot the notebook and to install Windows 10 with a USB 3 stick

Hi. I just bought a new toshiba satellite A210/A215 laptop two weeks ago. After about a week of use, something unusual started happening. After I had been using the laptop for awhile (sometimes a couple of minutes, sometimes several hours), the screen suddenly turns black with no warning. It is still on, because I can hear it running. I just can't see anything on the screen and any music or video playing stops. If anyone could help with this that would be great. Thanks!

Hello everyone,

I have a two-year old Toshiba C850D-10W which came with Win7 Premium. After several months of flashing notices suggesting to upgrade to Win10 I decided to give it a go. I was dumb enough not to check whether my laptop would support such upgrade, and I discovered only too late that it wouldn't on the official website.

What happened is that during the installation process, about halfway through (maybe 43%) I got a message saying that the system would restart many times. The problem is, it never got beyond the stage of restarting, and the system is now in a loop whereby a fixed unblinking underscore appears on the upper left corner and stays there for about five seconds. Then the system restarts and the underscore shows up again, and so on forever, no Toshiba logos, no chance to select Safe Mode, nothing. I can enter the BIOS menu and I've tried to boot the system from the back-up DVDs I made when I bought the computer so I could get back to Windows 7 but it doesn't work, the system just doesn't recognise it. The HDD is fine, I've taken it out and opened it on another computer as if it were an external drive and all the files are still there but I can't do anything else.

Any help would much apprectiated, thanks a lot

I have a friends Asus x54h laptop that is not booting, and it is droving me crazy.

What is happening:
When the power button is pressed the fan turns on and some indicator lights turn on including the hard drive indicator light. Then the disc drive makes a noise and the hard drive indicator light turns off. Here is a picture of the indicator lights:

Nothing ever shows up on the screen.
Sometimes after running 1-5 minutes the laptop will just completely turn off.

What I have tried:
-Booting with just the power cord connected.

-Booting with just the battery connected.

-Taking out the battery and unplugging the power cord and holding the power button for 40 seconds, then plug in and try to boot again.

-Attaching a screen and pushing the keyboard buttons to add an additional screen. Nothing showed up on it.

-Taking it's hard drive and putting it in a good laptop. It booted into Windows and ran without issues.

-Replacing the current stick of ram with a new one from crucial.com. This laptop only has one RAM slot and I don't have any compatible RAM so I had to just buy one. I put it in, and nothing happened differently. Also, if I remove the RAM completely nothing happens differently. This made me think that there might be an issue with the RAM slot. I looked at it, and there seems to be something a little weird about one of the connectors. Here is a picture:

I am not sure, but I thought that this might be causing the RAM to not be detected. I used a ... Read more

Hello Tuan

The Toshiba logo will be shown if the Toshiba image is preinstalled on your unit. If you install Microsoft full version Toshiba logo will not be shown and there is no way change it. The same situation is with other notebook manufacturers.

Thanks ahead of time. Running a log is probably out of the question, as it won't boot up long enough to even get to the open screen. It is a win 8 by the way.

First, you want to check the harddisk and try to clear cmos. Try repairing windows as well.

What is the exact moment the booting process stops ? Immediatly after the windows logo ?

Hi!

I am experiencing issues with my notebook. My Display had been casuing problems for quite a while. I had black and white lines and patterns all over the screen and always had to change the angle of the screen. I opened the notebook once and magically the situation changed for the better without me actually doing much of anything. It stayed like that for about a year.

Well, recently it got worse again and one day me screen stayed black when I tried to start the notebook. I tried an external monitor using the windows button+P and Fn+F5, but neither worked. Then I tried closing the Notebook right after pushing the power button. It worked. I had a clear image on the external monitor. Then I opened my notebook and - magically to me - had an image on the internal screen, too. It worked until - after several hours - I had to restart the notebook. Now I am back with the same issue I had before and even the once successful tactic seems to no longer work.

Long story short: I thought, I might as well try a hard power cycle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFehLaJP6fQ) before opening the notebook again. And anyway, I don't know if opening it will do me any good.

My questions here are:

1) Does anybody have an idea what might be going on here?

2) Will a hard power cycle leave my data on the hard drive intact? This is not the same as a factory reset, is it? (Actually this is much more about the data then about the notebook. I'd rather sacrifice the notebook than the data.)

Thanks... Read more

Hello everyone,

I want to share one issue I have with my laptop, just to know if any of you already experience it or maybe you know some options how to fix it.

I have bought a Satellite Pro C50-A model in January 2014, with Windows 8.1 preinstalled. Few weeks ago I experienced for the first time the issue.

Working with the laptop, suddenly the screen switches off... The laptop is still working, as I already connected to another screen and the keyboard and mouse is working, everything. Even if you focus a bit in the laptop's screen, you can see the shape of what I am doing, but very very dark, almost off.

First time it happened, I was able to fix it after few tries, unplugging the laptop from DC and taking out the battery, then pressing Power button for 30 secs. I had to do it several times, and then it started to work.

The issue seemed to be fixed, but yesterday, it happened again, with the bad luck that doing the same process is not enough... It was working for 1 min and then it switched off again...

I don't know what else I can do, as last option I would reset to factory settings, but that's something that I would like to skip.

*Is there any known error, malware or defect in the laptops that could help me?*

Thank you very much in advance!

Answer:Satellite Pro C50-A - Black/dark screen issue

To be honest I don?t think recovery image installation will help you.

I don?t have such bad experience on my Toshiba machines but I?m pretty sure it is hardware related issue and cannot imagine that clean recovery installation will change anything.

In the past some people have reported about similar issues and the reason was defective FL inverter.
The warranty is still valid so I think you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Hi to everybody,
I have experiencing strange problem, when turning on the laptop.
It doesn’t boot, just Toshiba logo appears on the screen.

Once it took to the point where it shows “Starting Windows…” and the scale below.
Then it stayed for a while like frozen and turned off.

I can shut it off by using power/restart button as well.

My strong guess is that hard drive is dying.

What do you think guys?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite 2180CDT – no POST, just LOGO.

Do you have a bootdisk?
I think that notebook has windows 98 correct?
If you have no bootdisk please go to bootdisk.com and get one for your OS.

Once you have the bootdisk start the computer with the disk in the drive. If it will not boot from the floppy you must enter the BIOS (usually by tapping the DEL or F2 key upon startup) and set the boot priority to floppy/cdrom/hard drives.

Once the computer has loaded with the bootdisk you will come to a DOS prompt. At the prompt type the following (no quotes): "scandisk c: /all"

You may be lucky and get away with a bad boot sector. Post back with results after scan.

All I get is the toshiba logo and the screen goes a faint blueish colour.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite C does not boot - only toshiba logo appears

What is your notebook model?

Are you able to access the BIOS?
Power up the unit and press F2 button to access the BIOS.
Is the BIOS screen visible?

Another idea: power up the notebook, press F12 button.
Usually you should see an boot menu. Here choose the last option called ?HDD recovery?.
This option allows you to recover the notebook back to factory settings.

I know there're several postings here reporting how the screen is black at startup. I think my problem is similar, but I need to give some more specifics.

About a year ago, a friend of mine gave me his old laptop, a Satellite 1800-814. I basically use it as a typewriter, and to check my email. It never could run on battery only, longer than for a couple of seconds, but I've always used it with the power cable connected, no problems. At times, it wouldn't start up, and I had to unplug the power cable for a while to get it going.

I was visiting someone, and wanted to connect to the Internet. They had this USB wireless modem, which I plugged in to my Toshiba. During the installation, the PC froze, and I had to reboot it by pushing down the power button for a while. It did reboot, but stalled. I rebooted again, sometimes got it working, sometimes not, and eventually, it went into its current state: With the power cord connected, it'll start, I'll hear the processor fan (or whatever that is) working, and the battery and power lights will be green at the bottom of the keyboard.

The screen, however, is black, it doesn't make any sounds, and the caps and insert key indicator lights are not reacting to anything -- they're permanently off.

What's up here? I tried removing the battery, give it some time and then reinserting it, but to no avail. I also tried booting it up with the USB modem plugged in, no luck there either. Do I need to make an appointment with the PC Doc, o... Read more

Answer:Satellite S1800-814: Boot issue, screen is black

Your description is pretty long but I am still confused. You mixed several issues in problem description and there is no clear statement what happen when you press power button.

Is power LED on?
Is there any HDD activity?
Can you see something on the screen?
What happen if you use AC power supply only (without battery inside)?

Sorry but it is not easy to say what the problem can be. The best thing you can do is to contact someone with enough PC experience. The person who has notebook on the desk and try to start this notebook can be more concrete about possible problems.

Hello all,

I recently had some overheating problems with my L675-10T, even when i was using a large cooling fan for gaming.

I realised that the problem was caused from blocked exhaust and dust, and for that reason , after reading and watching numerous tutorials i opened my laptop successfully and cleaned everything.

The temperature was dropped 20 C and i was happy.

The following night though, took my laptop and headed to the living room, and it shut down.
Black screen, and nothing going on. So i ran to the internet and found this solution, that worked btw .

1. Turn off your computer
2. Disconnect every wire from it (including power)
3. Disconnect the battery from the bottom of the computer.
4. Re-plug in the power wire. (the battery should not be in the computer)
5. Turn on the power. The screen will work. Choose start windows normally. (if you get that screen)

The thing is , that the same thing happened to me this morning as well.
Twice in 2 days, and im kinda worried i did something bad when de-assembling the laptop or something. Any ideas ? Or should i keep carrying with the above solution?
Seems like a power mess up of sorts.

Thank you all in advance.

Answer:Re: Satellite L675-10T black screen issue after disassembling

Hi

I assume this issue did not happen before you have disassembled the notebook. Right?
To be honest such similar issue happened to me to. The notebook did not power up (black screen) after I entered the sleep mode. However this happened only one time to me?

It?s difficult to say why this happened to you?it?s not impossible that you have damaged something during disassembled procedure.

However, fact is that your warranty is not valid anymore because you opened the notebook. Therefore any approaches (especially part replacement) to fix this would cost money.
So finally it?s your decision: visiting an technician downtown in order to check the hardware parts or to keep staying with the ?workaround? mentioned above.

My laptop won't boot past the "Toshiba Leading Innovation" logo. I can hear the hard drive starting up, but nothing happens after that. I have reason to believe it's a software and not a hardware problem because the last thing I did on the laptop was exit Windows from safe mode after installing some drivers. So far while troubleshooting I've tried to boot into the BIOS via F2 or F12 to no avail. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi all,

Does anybody know of an issue that could cause a no boot (just stays on Toshiba logo forever) followed by boot on the second try pretty much every time on a Toshiba Satellite Pro L870 (Windows 8)?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite Pro L870 stays on Toshiba logo forever - no boot

Usually the notebook performs the POST (power on self test) while the Toshiba splash screen is visible.
While power in self test, the essential motherboard hardware components (i.e RAM) would be checked.

I think the POST cannot be passed properly and therefore the notebook freezes at the Toshiba logo screen.

But unfortunately, I cannot say for sure what part might be affected? it could be an simple RAM problem or some serious motherboard issue.

I have a simular problem with a P200-140.

When it boots the Toshiba Logo appears for a few seconds and then disappears, if I tilt the screen I can see that the picture is there but the screen does not light up.

I used the SVGA output on my projector and that works fine. Sometimes after booting a few times the display returns and will then work fine but will disapear again without warning especially if yiou close the screen.

I dunno if this is possibly a switch problem?
Is there a microswitch that might be sticking when you close the lid?

I've tried deleting and reinstalling the display drivers and booting in safe mode, neither made a difference.

Answer:Satellite P200-140 - Toshiba Logo appears for a few seconds and then disappears

hi Mortiss,
maybe the backlight of the lcd is gone... (i dont think so)
or the wires broke... (!)
or the lid switch is defectiv (rare)

ask a servicepartner to assist...

or deassemble the unit... be carefull this will kill your warranty..

Hi Guys,

I got Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100, SP2100, Model No:PS210E-005ES-EN,
This laptop supposed to be designed for windows XP as the manual says, ok.
I am facing now two different issues have to solve them individually.

First one's the audio, after formatting installing a fresh copy of windows XP Pro, installing all the drivers from Toshiba , all of them're 2008 drivers, selected according to the model no, every driver installed fine except the one for yamaha ac-xg wdm.

Every time i try to install i only get "driver not installed" in the end, tried loads of other drivers designed for ac-xg wdm. No success, when i go to the device manager i only see "unknown device" which's the sound card i guess....
Bios also updated to the latest version...

The other issue is the laptop fails to send signal to screen; sometimes completely dead except the front green light.
Also i noticed that when switched off the battery green light remains on but slightly dim....have to remove battery, plug and unplug from power to get it functioning........processor reseated, pasted with the heat sink white stuff, no clog......etc..

Wishing you all merry Xmas.....

Hi everyone,

I am having an issue with my Toshiba notebook. My model is Satellite A210 - MS508C. I am out of warranty.

Originally, I was having problems turning on my computer. I would push the power button to turn on the computer. Usually, there is a Toshiba loading screen with a bar at the bottom showing the loading process. Right after, there is a Windows loading screen with another bar at the bottom showing the loading process. I was having problems at the Toshiba loading screen. It would load about 75% and then freeze. My computer would not turn on and I would have to manually press the power button to turn the computer off. Then, press the power button again after waiting a few minutes to try to turn the computer on again.

After having this problem for a week, I figured it was maybe because my computer is not as updated as it should be. So I went to the official Toshiba website to their updates page. I started to download the BIOS update.

In the middle of the installation, my computer shut down (turned off) by itself. There was no indication that the installation was complete. I also remembered reading that the BIOS update should restart automatically. My computer turned off itself all of a sudden and did not turn back on. After waiting a couple of minutes, I tried turning it on manually by pushing the power button. There was sound and the blue power button light below the touchpad was on. However, the screen was black and blank.

Hi guys, I can't seem to get to the W7 logo loading up screen after the bios check. I can't even get to Safety mode from pressing F8. I can get changing the Bios or configuration. Here's the story of what happened, a few days ago I booted up my computer and it worked normally and got to the desktop screen. I tried firing up my firefox exe. It crashed, then tried internet explorer(never liked it) same thing happened. Then I restarted just to see if this repairs the problem. Then I get errors that I've never faced before popping up in little windows about 3x.(Can't remember what they were) It frozed up, I restarted with the reset button instead cause I couldn't get to task manager. This time it went into the repair screen mode I tried all of them. None of them worked and when I used the system restore to the earlier point. It wouldn't work because of something to do with RSTRUI. After it restarted to that repair screen three times and tried letting windows repair it for me. It stopped making it to the W7 logo animations screen. Only goes past the Bios check up. What do I do now? It shouldn't be a hardware issue because everything ran fine for a while till a trojan came in and corrupted some data a couple weeks back.

Answer:Booting up never makes it to W7 logo screen?

Welcome to Sevenforums,

Maybe check in the Bios settings the boot order is ok if you have multiple disk, and check either if you're on Ahci mode or other mode like Ide, Raid...

Could have change something in the wild having restart with the reset button.

My friend's Toshiba M35X-S149 was working just fine until Today. When it's powered up, it comes up to the Toshiba logo screen with "Press [F2] for SETUP, Press [F12] for boot device selection menu" on the left status bar and "phoenix" at the right of status bar, and freezes. Pressing those keys won't respond and just sits there locked up.

I'm a tech, so naturally, disassembled the notbook to look for anything unusual, such as loose connections, bad cables, cold solder joints, etc., but found nothing. It's nice and clean.

Anyone with suggestion?

Answer:Freeze at Toshiba logo screen on M35X-S149

Hi

It is very suspect if the user is not able to enter BIOS settings. Usually in this case it must be something serious. The only thing that you can try is to remove the battery for a short time and try it again.

If you have disassembled the notebook did you also try to remove CMOS battery?

Sorry but I don?t see other solution as to contact Service partner in your country.

Two days ago I was working on my laptop and I ran into a problem (forget what it was) and a pop up said I should run the chkdsc utility. I did as it said and after running it, it said I needed to restart the computer. When I restarted it, it just froze on the start-up screen (the Toshiba logo screen). My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5331 and Im running Windows Vista ( which I think sux).
At the bottom of the Toshiba logo screen it says hit f2 for set up or F12 for boot device selection menu but neither works. I hold the F2 as I power it on and it just says please wait and does nothing else. When I do the F12 it just says entering boot device selection menu and then nothing happens. I also tried removing the hard drive and it does the same thing, I tried removing the ram and replacing it. Tried holding the power button for 30 seconds and nothing seems to work. I would be eternally greatful if someone could help me. My laptop had alot of my 6 year old sons pics and my husband who is in the mid-east. I really hope they arent lost. Thank you in advance for any pointers you could give me or ideas of things to try.

Answer:Toshiba laptop freezing on logo screen after chkdsk

Take your harddrive and slave it into another system and access it via that system. Do the following:

1. Run antivirus, antispyware/malware programs.

2. Do a harddrive diagnostics. Seagate's Seatools will work with Toshiba harddrives. it is free and can be burned to a CD. Do the tests in this order: SMART, Short DST, and especially the Long DST.
