Memory Upgrade on a Satellite 1800-712

Question: Memory Upgrade on a Satellite 1800-712

Hello,

I want to upgrade the RAM of my 1800-712.
Actually, i have an SDRAM PC133 256 MB.
It's strange as the bus on this type of machine seems to be at 100 Mhz !

I want to install a Kingston Memory in the second slot.
So, is it mandatory to install the KTT SO100/256 memory (compatible as the Kingston configurator shows), or can i put the KTT SO133/256 ?
As the second is cheaper, i would want to install it ?
Can you confirm the compatibility ?

Thank you.

Preferred Solution: Memory Upgrade on a Satellite 1800-712

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Memory Upgrade on a Satellite 1800-712

Hi

It is recommended to use the module with the same bus speed. Probably it will work but in my opinion you should not look at the money just on compatibility and be sure that upgrade parts will not be damaged.

I have a Satellite 1800-814 with 256MB RAM and have been looking for a memory upgrade for some time. I've used Crucial Technology for an upgrade of my old Packard Bell 6500 Multimedia PC, but they couldn't help with my Satellite laptop.

I've now found an upgrade to 512MB at Offtek, (2 x 256MB modules) which seems to have a good range of Toshiba upgrades. See website:-

http://www.offtek.co.uk/

Their site states that the max memory for the 1800-814 is 512MB.
Anyone have any experience of Offtek upgrades before I fork out ?131.16 please? Can I rely on the accuracy of their information and reliability of their product?

Regards,

Answer:Satellite 1800-814 memory upgrade

Hi,

seems like the memory from Offtek is the right. And yes it's true 512MB is the maximum a Satellite 1800 can use. But if your notebook already has 256MB, you only need one 256MB module.

Hello everybody,

I'm interested in upgrading my old Satelite 1800-314.
Does anybody know the maximun cpu upgrade for this machine?
Does it support pc133 memory modules or only pc100??

My idea is to upgrade it from the original Celeron 1.1 to a Celeron 1.4 or even a Pentium III Coopermine / Tualatin processor, and add more 256mb to the machine.

Thanks in advance,

Andre

Answer:Satellite 1800-314: Memory and CPU upgrade

Hello Andre

The CPU upgrade is not possible. The processors used in portables are connected to the system board using a process called TCP (Tape Carrier Package). This is a permanent connection method and is used in the interests of miniaturization and heat dissipation.

Memory expansion is not a problem. You can use PC100 256MB (PA3069U-1M25) memory module.

Answer:Satellite 1800-921 - Which memory I need?

Hi

Satellite 1800 is pretty old notebook... I have a little bit searched using Google and it seems that you need PC100 SDRAM SODIMM for it but you can also choose PC133 modules, they will also run with lower PC100 speed.

I?m not sure how much RAM it supports but I think 512MB would be maximum for this oldie?

Hi -

I have a Satellite 1800-412 that is getting very slow so I'm planning to upgrade the memory. I've been hunting around a few different sites to see what I can buy and there seem to be differing opinions about which memory will actually fit my laptop:

Kingston's website says that I'll need their KTT-SO100/256
...but another site suggested the KTT-S0815/256

Both websites claim that this is the chip that will work.

I also looked on the Toshiba website and found the part number PA3069U-1M25 is the one that I'm looking for, but the chips I've found for sale online recommended for my laptop have different Toshiba part numbers...

Help! I'm confused!
What exactly do I need to buy? Are there actually several different chips that would work, or are some of these sites trying to sell me the wrong one?

Thanks for your help,

Morag

Hello

I have found info that your unit can handle with 1024 MB max. Compatible memory module is PC100 256MB (PA3069U-1M25). This module is tested and it will be recognized properly.

I recommend you to use right and tested one as cheaper but maybe not tested one.

My satellite s1800-100 won't boot up although my new (2nd) memory module is 128 MB PC100.

I have Samsung samsung K4S281632C-TC1H memory module as PC100 (128MB) by default on SLOT 1.

Although all of specs and form factors are fit, Why does not my Satellite S1800-100 boot up? I checked the new (2nd slot) memory works fine and tested OK.

So, is there as possibility to have a problem in Slot 2? Or is it related to BIOS insufficiency? (there is no newer BIOS, current is 2.20 for Satellite S1800-100).

I'm disappointed. I bought a new PC100 128 MB to insert it into 2nd slot, my Toshiba did not boou up!.

Important note: If i connect the new memory which i bought yesterday, works fine in Slot 1.

Please help and understand.

Regards...

Answer:Satellite 1800-100 won't boot up with new memory

Hi

Well, it?s very difficult to say why it will not boot up.
I think there are several possibilities:

1.) You have used a wrong module
2.) The second bank on the board has a malfunction
3.) The notebook does not support the max 256MB of RAM

I think the point 1 and 3 is not relevant because you have tested the module and it has worked on the first slot. Additional the notebook should be able to handle 2 x 256 MB memory therefore you should be able to use 2x 128MB

I think the second ram slot could have a malfunction.
Please check the second slot only with one memory module.

The second possibility is to use exact the module which was recommended by Toshiba.
As far as I can remember it?s PC100 128MB (PA3005U) SDRAM

Hey everyone.

I've just bought an old Satellite 1800-314 (Cel 1,1 GHZ, 256 RAM, 16Mb Video Card) from my college, and tried
the parameters of this comp using AIDA 32 program.
To my suprise test of reading RAM shown only 148Mb/s - slower than Pentium MMX 166, and test of writing RAM shown only 51 Mb/s -slower then K6 266.
What's more applications like games (old also) running very slowly.

What can be a reason for this?
And what is it DMI problem?

Answer:Satellite 1800-314 Memory problem

Hi

is there the original Memory built in the notebook?
It seems that either something with the RAM or the Motherboard is wrong!

But it is very tricky to find a solution!

In my opinion you should save your data and make a Recovery. After finishing recovery procedure install some differant benchmarks and test if the RAM is now faster, isn't it.

Hi

Upgrading the Ram to the maximum is good idea and I believe the notebook performance will be much better than before.

Back to ?shared memory?. As far as I know shared memory works automatically and there is no way to change it manually. Using more RAM the unit can use more of it for the graphic. I am afraid there is no much to do.

I want to upgrade the HD from 15GB to 40GB or more. What with digital camera images etc., exisitng HD getting rather full. I have done this several times with desktops, but might a laptop be more of a problem??

What's the maximum size HD that will be recognised? Will any make 2.5" wide 9.5mm high laptop HD fit and be recognised? Any need for special connector adaptors? How do I remove the exisiting HD?

Any help much appreciated.

Answer:HD upgrade on Satellite 1800-400

Hi

You should (no guarantee!!) be able to use up to 60GB in that model. That comes from the fact that there are a few 'borders' that the BIOS must be able to cross and one is around 8GB I think and the next is around 64GB.

In computers numbers aren't as straightforward as in human life, so to be as safe as possible I'd go for a HDD not bigger than 60GB. However, I want to emphasize that I cannot guarantee that a 60GB disk will work!

So my recommendation, try to buy the disk it with a full refund if it turns out it does not work with the BIOS!

You theoratically could use any diskmanufacturer as long as the physical format is as you suggested, 2,5" and 9,5mm high and using Parallell ATA (in contrast to Serial ATA).

Even then, there are different variants that you should know about.
Disks come in 4200rpm, 5400rpm and even 7200rpm (I think...or at least 7000-something rpm). Anyway, the higher the RPM, the higher the performance of the disk (and the price normally).
So that would tell us to go for the 7000-something disk if we can afford it.
BUT! the higher the RPM the hotter the disk. And the space for the disk is not big.
That means that you could run into heat-problems for the disk if you buy a 5400 or 7000-something disk.
So what I am saying is - stick to the 4200rpm disks. Ok, they are slower but they will probably last longer and the specs of your machine would not gain from such a fast disk anyway.

You won't need any special connector. The disk ... Read more

Anybody managed a satisfactory upgrade of a Satellite 1800-400 or similar (384MB RAM, 20GB HD, 800 MHz Celeron)from Win ME?

Would prefer to Upgrade to XP Pro, but clean install 2nd choice.

If I format HD for clean install, would an Upgrade version of XP recognise the Toshiba recovery CD as a legit copy of ME - I heard there may be problems?

I intend to upgrade BIOS and collect all available Drivers for this model offered by Toshiba for XP, but will there still be problems with any of the hardware?

Do the Toshiba Drivers need to be loaded in a special order, and is that during or after the XP install?

Is XP likely to be faster/slower/about the same as ME, with above hardware specification??

Any advice welcome, as I haven't upgraded operating system on a laptop before, and the potential problems seem greater than with desktops.

Answer:Upgrade Satellite 1800-400 from ME to XP Pro ??

Hi

I don?t see any reason why WXP should not work on your unit properly. On this forum I have read many topics where users reports about WXP on older units as yours.

Please check Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp and there you will find drivers for WXP.

After WXP installation install display and sound driver at first. After that install other hardware drivers. The next step is Toshiba stuff installation:
? Common modules
? Controls
? Power saver
? Utilities.

It is important to install common modules as first.

Answer:Re: Satellite 1800-804 - Need to upgrade the BIOS

Hi Aki

You can upgrade the Windows ME to Windows XP without the BIOS update!

The BIOS update would not affect the Windows XP installation.

Maybe one importnat fact is not known to you;
The BIOS update is always risky and should be done ONLY to fix some bugs.

In your case, it looks like you want to change only the OS and therefore the BIOS update is not really necessary on your Sat 1800.

Anyway, if you are looking for XP drivers then you could find it on the Toshiba European driver page -> *ARCHIVE* area

Hi!, thanks you for this forum.

Ok, I bougth a satellite 1800-100 four years ago in a shop, here, in Spain. I upgrade my memory with a module of kingston pc100 of 144 pins with 256 MB. I mounted this module because the FSB of this motherboard is 100 Mhz.
Now, my notebook has 384 MB of RAM.

I openned the notebook to investigate the resources inside of it. I mounted and dismounted the processor several times, a Intel celeron 800 Mhz. But i don?t konw that if is possible to have more information about the motherboard'internals characteristics. I would like to know which is the fastest micro that a can mount in my notebook. ? Celeron 900, 1000, 1100 or more ? Or can I mount a pentium III 800, 900, 1000, 1100 or more ? I have the original RAM configuration for the S1800-400 with 120 MB. I have acquired a 256 MB RAM with the following description: EXT256-3069/JR, MEM 256MB PR Toshiba Satellite PRO 4600 Series C650, PIII 7500/750/800 #PA3069U (i think the brand is Transcend).

When I put this slot in the machine, keeping the original one, and start the computer it does not start, freezing either on the initial screen before uploading anything or goes to the screen where one can start it in safe mode but then it does not start.

I have removed the new RAM and it is working fine again.

What can be the problem:

1) Is this new RAM not compatible with the computer? According to the service provider internet selections it should be (it is a Portuguese company with their own memory configuration options).

2) Can the computer run with the original 120MB and the new 256MB, or does it have to be both the same size/brand?

3) Is there any other problem I am not looking into?

Tks

Answer:Satellite 1800-S274: HDD upgrade questions

Hi there,

1. The maximum installable and known capacity is 60GB but you can try to install 80GB. (I guess it should work but it?s not approved)
2. Unfortunately you won?t get any installation media from toshiba because the OEM certificate is bounded to the recovery media.
If you want to install XP you will have to buy one. But you can also use Windows 2000 since there are drivers available.

I've updated the OS of my notebook Satellite 1800 from Windows 98 (original OS) to Windows XP with Service Pack 1.
The Windows detected all the devices, but should I update the drivers manually using download drivers page?

The Windows cannot detect the IP from DHCP server. The cables and server are working properlly, so is it a situation created by the use of a wrong network board driver?

Answer:Satellite 1800: Should I install drivers manually after OS upgrade to WinXP?

Hi

Of course you should install all Toshiba drivers after installation of the original WinXP.
If you don?t have a Drivers & Utilities CD you can download the necessary drivers from the Toshiba website.

You should check the device manager and if you will find a yellow exclamation mark beside the LAN card so I assume the driver was not installed and you need a to install the LAN driver.

Hello together !

For your information:

Did a memory upgrade today at 2 Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100 (1,9 GH, 256 MB DDR-RAM originally), both up to 1 GB, all fine and not problems.

Just wanted to end rumours about "only 512 MB all together" or even less.

If searching for it, remember to think of the specifications:

DDR-266 (PC2100)
DDR-SDRAM, SO-DIMM
200 PIN
CL 2.5

concerning RAM frequency, building form etc.

Greetings

2) If I replace the HDD by a SSD do you know if it will be possible to connect it very quickly like with an ultrabook (intel spec) ?

Thanks for your help

Answer:Satellite L50-A-1DG - memory upgrade

According notebook specification it has 4 RAM slots and can be upgraded up to 32 GB of RAM.
Compatible RAMs are:
4GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M4G
8GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M8G

I recommend you to buy high quality modules from Kingston and you will be 100% sure about compatibility.

Answer:What Memory Upgrade should I buy for my Satellite Pro A60?

Hi,

your notebook has 256MB internal memory, I'm not sure why it shows only 192MB. This internal memory can only be replaced by a service technician. But you also have a currently unused memory slot, in which you can place a maximum of 1024MB RAM.

Here are the modules from Toshiba you can use:
PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

I have tried disassembling it without success.

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro A40

Hi

On the Satellite Pro A40 you will find 2 memory slots and you can upgrade the memory to max 2GB (2x1024MB)

It should be possible to use these modules:
PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51)
PC2100 1GB (PA3278U-1M1G)

And

PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G

I purchase the compatible parts and devices always form the Toshiba service partner in my country because so I'm 100% sure that this parts are compatible.
So I would recommend you also to buy the modules form the ASP in your country.

I want Kingston RAM but I can't find on the kingstonmemory website. And I don't know the maximum I can use.

Answer:Satellite P30-143 - Need memory to upgrade the RAM

Hi Johann

Well, regarding the user manual you can upgrade the RAM up to 2GB. That means you can put in 1GB module in each memory slot.

The new RAM should have the following specification: DDR-RAM PC2700 (DDR333)
Normally you should find such RAM modules on the Kingston website because I bought DDR-RAM PC2700 last year from Kingston for my older notebook and it works perfectly.

By the way: In the user manual of Satellite P30 you can find useful instructions how to upgrade the RAM.

I have a Toshiba L40-15G with 1GB DDR2 ram (2x512MB). It works at a frequency of 266Mhz.
I want to upgrade to 2GB of ram by going 2x1GB sticks or a 2GB stick.

However, i don't know if the 2GB stick will be accepted on one slot.
Should i buy a 2GB stick or 2 1GB sticks?

And, can the frequency of the new sticks be higher? like 800Mhz/500Mhz?

Message was edited by: Ruixituh

Answer:Memory Upgrade on Satellite L40-15G

Hi

The memory module frequency depends on the chipsets FSB (front side bus)
If the FSB is limited to 266Mhz then your modules will run only with 266Mhz even the modules would support a faster speed.

As far as I know the notebook supports the Intel GL960 Express Chipset.
This chipset handles max 2Gb RAM so you could use only 2 x 1GB RAM modules.

I thing the chipset will handle 533Mhz

Hi Everyone

3) Can the modular 2nd drive adaptors still be bought
4) Do the adaptors only let you add an 2.5 inch drive?

Also, anyone got any views on how the P20 (mine has a 3.2 GHZ processor) will handle Vista? I think the graphics card may be a little wussy.

Hi

The notebook doesn?t boot after the memory upgrade due to these different issues;

- memory modules are not compatible together
- memory modules are not compatible with the notebook
- memory modules are faulty
- one of memory slots is faulty

In most case the memory module replacement helps.

One hint; did you try to switch the memory modules in the slots? Sometimes this helps.
Several weeks ago I have updated my memory and the notebook didn?t boot.
I thought it?s a memory malfunction but after module switching the notebook booted correctly.

I want to upgrade my memory (one chip 256 DDR SoDiMM 333 Mhz PC2700 installed). If I add to the original 256Mb a 512Mb chip will the two work together and is a 512 DDR SoDIMM with a frequency of 400 Mhz compatible with the laptop computer and 256Mb chip?
Thanks

Answer:Satellite A30 RAM memory upgrade

Hi

>If I add to the original 256Mb a 512Mb chip will the two works together?

Yes, both modules will work together. In such case you will have 768MB of main memory.

> is a 512 DDR SoDIMM with a frequency of 400 Mhz compatible with the laptop computer and 256Mb chip

This depends on the front side bus (FSB). As far as I know the A30 supports a 533Mhz FSB. So the 512MM module should run with full 400Mhz speed.

But note; if the 256MM memory module supports only 333Mhz then the faster 512MB module will also run with 333Mhz. The 256MB module will make the second, faster module slower.

Answer:Satellite Pro L10 Memory Upgrade

Hi Luis,

The specification for your notebook indicates that it can accept up to 1,024 Mb RAM. If you have 2 RAM slots then you can use any combination of RAM modules as long as you do not exceed the quoted maximum. Obviously if you only have 1 RAM slt then you must remove the original 256Mb module before inserting you new 512Mb one.

I am wondering which is the easiest way to resolve - buy a memory upgrade (no idea how to change the memory though) or get an external hard drive?
And if I change the memory will I lose what is already saved on the laptop?

Answer:Memory upgrade for Satellite L30-134

Sure you can improve performance by upgrading your notebooks memory. The maximum amount of your notebook is 2GB and if you want to buy memory modules, make sure the following specifcations are present:

DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM

An external HDD won't improve performance but keeps your data safe, if you have to reinstall your system. For me, it is best way to store pictures, music videos and stuff like that.

But there are other things to make your machine faster. Depending on your operating system, there are several guides around the internet.

Hi,

I have a Satellite Pro R50-B-12u with 4Gb of RAM.
I have purchased an additional 4Gb RAM stick but cannot see how you fit it.

My last Satellite Pro had a memory flap on the back but all I can see on the back is about 20 screws but no flap!

Can somebody please help me or point me in the right direction?

Thanks in anticipation.

Wozza

Answer:Satellite Pro R50-B-12U and memory upgrade

Hi

The Satellite R50 does not contain separate memory bay.
The memory modules and slots are hidden under the bottom cover.

In order to get access to the modules, the bottom cover has to be removed.
But I would not recommend doing this because this would cancel the warranty!!!

I guess your warranty is still valid and in such case only authorized technician should perform such upgrade to keep the warranty valid.

I have upgraded an A60 Pro with a 1GB memory up but the Control Panel /System/ General tab still shows it as having 192MB RAM. This limits me downloading some Security Software from BT Yahoo.

Can anyone advise on how I can make the machine recognise the new RAM or is the 192 MB RAM noted different memory from the new memory upgrade?

Answer:Memory Upgrade on Satellite Pro A60

If you use non-compatible RAM module it is logic that system can not recognize it correctly. I do not know who is the manufacturer of this 1 GB RAM module but if you want to use compatible one pick up some info about PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G) or check Kingston web page.

Hello there,
I have recently installed Vista Ultimate on my Satellite M60 Laptop, it is activated and updated but I think it is short on memory. I have two 512 banks of memory and have bought two 1gb memory chips from crucial to install instead of the 512 banks.
Question is, I can find one bank under a lid on the bottom of the laptop but no other, where abouts is it situated and how do I access it?
I have done a similar upgrade on an older model and have no problems with working on the machine but in that case they were both underneath and easily accessed.

Hope you can help.

Russell.

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite M60

Hi Russell

If both memory slots are not placed under the memory cover (bottom side) one of them is usually placed under the keyboard. To access it you must remove the plastic cover placed over the keyboard and after doing this the keyboard itself.

Can anyone advise me as to the correct RAM type to upgrade my Satellite Pro A10. Its a standard 256mB at the minute and I'm thinking of slotting in an additional 512mB next to it - but am bemused by the array of memory types and nomenclatures - DDR - SODIMM etc !!!

Handy with the screw drivers but not so hot with the acronyms. Many thanks to you all out there who know the score!

Answer:Memory Upgrade on Satellite Pro A10

Hi

I understand you very well and sometimes I?m also a little bit confused because of the whole notations in the computer world.

The Sat Pro A10 supports 200-Pin PC2700 (333Mhz) DDR SODIMM modules and you can upgrade the memory on this notebook up to 1024MB (2 x 512MB)

You could check this memory module page:

I know the installed memory is DDR2700 (333mhz) but I also would like to know wich brand is already installed and/or which brands/types are aproved by Toshiba.

thx in advance

Answer:Memory upgrade for Satellite A40-261

Hi

normally You don't need to bother with brands, MHz'es and stuff like that. If You point out that You want to buy either (recommended) Toshiba original memory option for that model, or a f.ex. use a Kingston 3rd party memory - You just have to say "I have this model, give me a 256, 512 or whatever memory".
It will then work perfect in Your system along with any memory You already have.

Best regards

Tom

I NEED TO FIND A 512MB MEMORY UPGRADE FOR MY A50/104 ANYONE NO THE CORRECT ONE TO BUY, I WAS TOLD ON EBAY THAT 512 DDR SODIMM IS THIS RIGHT. ALSO HOW DO I CHECK ON MY LAPTOP FOR THESE DETAILS IF THERE ARE ANY AND ANY OTHER SPEC BATTERY ,HARDDRIVE ETC

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite A50-104

Hi

You have several ways to find out what memory module is compatible and supported.
You can use a diagnostic too like ?Everest?, you will check the user manual or the Toshiba website for details or you will contact the service in your country for supported modules.

I will try to answer the question: The Satellite A50 should support PC2700 DDR-RAM like these parts:
PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

Now it?s your choice. You can also google for the offers
By the way: Visit the Toshiba Options & accessories site. There you will find compatible parts

I have Satellite m70-159 with 512 RAM and want to upgrade memory.
Is kingston ddr2 sdram so-dimm PC5300, 667Mhz 1G memory compatible with my notebook?
I know that this memory will run as PC4200, but I don't know where to buy PC4200.
Thanks.

Answer:Re: Satellite M70-159 memory upgrade

The Satellite M70 can be upgraded to 2GB RAM.

The Kingston RAM should be compatible with your notebook because Kingston makes high quality RAM and a lot of users here upgraded it with Kingston modules.
And as you said the RAM will run as PC4200, this is no problem.

Hey people,

Just got me a second hand 1800-400 but finding it a little slow. I've order more RAM(256) to go with the 128 it already has. Hopefully this will help.
But I was thinking, What other/faster CPU's can this little machine handle? I can get a P3 1Ghz cpu from ebay cheap but would the system run it?

Cheers
Sym

Answer:Satellite 1800-400, what cpu?

Hi,

I have looked at the specs of some other Satellite 1800 models and found out that they are using different processors. Most of them are using Celeron 1.0GHz and 1.1GHz. I also found a model with P3 1.0GHz (1800-804). But I think it is using another chipset, so I'm not sure if you can use a P3.
By the way I don't think that a little better CPU will increase the performance so much. Upgrading RAM is more effective.

Hi

If you check user`s manuals for Satellite 1800 you will see that this unit is delivered with different drives. One of them is SD-R2002. Google a little bit around. You will find a lot of online shops where you can order one. Other solution is Toshiba service partner.

By the way: check the ebay too.

I own a Satellite a100-912 and I want to upgrade its memory!
As it seems, this model supports only PC2-4200 DDR2 SODIMM modules (533 Mhz). Before bying a memory module that might regret, I want to know if there will be any compatibility issues if I use to this laptop PC2-6400 DDR2 SODIMM module (800 Mhz).

Is it going to work even at lower clock speed (533 Mhz) or is it going to be a total waste of money?

Answer:Memory upgrade on a Satellite A100-912

As far as I know the FSB is able to handle 667Mhz modules.
You can use lower modules (533Mhz) without any problems but modules with higher Mhz will not run with full speed due to the limited FSB.

So I don?t recommend buying 800Mhz modules. Firstly they are not supported and secondly it?s waste of money!

Answer:Satellite A60-199 - memory upgrade questions

The brochure says you can install a 1GB module in the Memory Slot. There is only one slot you can install memory into.

So if there is 256MB onboard, you can increase the total memory to 1.25GB

Answer:Memory upgrade for Satellite L-series

Hi

First of all you should post the notebook name!
How should someone help you if the notebook is not known!?

Anyway, if the notebook is able to handle the 1GB of memory then it should be possible to use both 512MB and 256MB memory modules!

But I recommend using same modules. Sometimes happens that different modules are not compatible and therefore the notebook cannot boot or run correctly!

I purchased a satellite L300 in august 08 in Australia. It came with a single 1Gb memory module which is now inadequate.
I obtained 2 x 2Gb modules but cannot get it to work with both fitted. Bios reports 4Gb fitted but Vista reboots the first time then blue screens. Ubuntu Linux hangs after loading HAL.

If only one module fitted it works OK and it does not matter which module is used.

Any info on this would be most appreciated.

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite L300

There is no some special info you can get here.
With RAM upgrade is important to use 100% compatible modules and also high quality products from Toshiba or Kingston.

Many people have reported about same problems using some cheap no-name products.
Compatible 2GB RAM has part number PA3513U-1M2G.

Check it out.

I have notebook Toshiba Satellite L40-17R with 2GB RAM and I want to upgade my Video memory from 256MB to Max(384MB). How I can do this?

Answer:How to upgrade video memory on Satellite L40-17R?

Unfortunately you cannot upgrade you RAM physically since your video RAM is just shared memory.

You could try to raise the RAM amount in the BIOS because the video RAM should be some kind of shared memory. If you cannot find some options in the BIOS which allow you to raise the amount of video RAM then you won?t be able to upgrade it...

To learn more about shared memory, please check the following site:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shared_Memory_Architecture

I must also tell you that if you even would be able to raise the amount of shared graphics memory, it won?t affect the performance not really since the system RAM is slower then some kind of dedicated RAM.

Hello,

does anyone know whether it would be possible to use 256 MB so-dimm on Satellite 1700 or is it completely impossible due to restriction on motherboard?

Intel chipset allows total of 512 MB but manual says that 192 MB is maximum. I wonder if there is a way to overcome this issue by modifying the motherboard.

Hi

I have found a information about Satellite 1700-300dvd and this unit support max 196 MB RAM
This unit has a 64 MB internal Ram and you can put a 128 MB module to upgrade the memory.
Furthermore you can use these modules:
PA3003U 32 MB Memory
PA3004U 64 MB Memory
PA3005U 128 MB Memory

I have just bought 2 x 1GB memory PC4200 for my L30-134 and installed them they work fine in BIOS, show up and read as they should do, but when windows is booting up it will crash with both modules installed, only ever gets to the screen with the loading bar going across and then I get blue screen.

Forgot to make a note of the error code I am afraid... (Fool I know). If I remove one of the modules and install the original 512 module with just 1 of the 1GB ones it will work fine. BIOS has been updated to the latest 3.10 version and still I get the same problem...
because all seems fine from within BIOS I am thinking that its more likely to be a software (windows) problem of some kind maybe some corrupt data in the registry or a virus maybe... has anybody any ideas?

Also, the laptop is actually my step sons and he really wants to have the CPU upgraded from the Celeron 410 to one that's a little faster. When first looking into this we was told that several CPUs were compatible (although not really worth the hassle of installing) they were cel m 450 2 GHz, pent dual core t2060 and t2080, and also the core duo t2250,so he bought the t2250,and no surprises it wouldn't work, or should I say it powered up with no display and the shut off and just epeated the cycle. So did not take a genius to work out it wasn't compat...

I know the t2080 are used in the L30's and are 1.73 533 FSB with 1MB L2 cache- 65nm and do stepping. The t2250 is identical apart from the L2 cache is 2MB... Read more

Answer:Memory upgrade problems on Satellite L30-134

If you use the search engine of this forum, you'll find some (many) topics about memory problems with L30, and you'll find the answer. L30 series is not compatible with some brands, if you use 2x1 Gb modules. Especially there were problems with Crucial memories. Just check the topics! I have L30-134 (BIOS 3.10) with 2x1 Gb Kingmax 533 Mhz, and I have no problem with it! 2 weeks ago I upgraded my Celeron M410 to Core Duo T2450 (2 Ghz), and it works like a charm! Maybe your CPU is wrong, or something is happened when you installed it. Any question?

Hello, could someone tell me:
Ive had 2 modules of RAM 512 (Samsung) & 256 Hynix. After I decided to install 1024 Mb (Crucial(Micron), Bios and OS doest see 256 MB module - only 1024 MB.

The same picture as I install 1024 Mb + 512 MB. I've already flashed with new Bios - it didn't help.
But the utillity CPU-Z in Windows recongnizes 2 modules in both cases?

P.S. Should I install the same module as my Crucial (Micron), or my laptop doesn't support more than 1 GB?

Now using one module of 1024, quite enough, but may be in the future I would like to have more.

Answer:After memory upgrade Satellite L20-206 shows only 1GB

Well, this is very strange because the L20-206 could be upgraded to max 2GB memory!
In this case you could use 2x1024MB memory modules!

The notebook should recognize both installed modules! But maybe the both modules are not compatible?! Anyway, I would recommend using the same modules with the same specifications.
I found some modules recommended by Toshiba. So maybe you want to use these:
DDR2-400/533 512MB (PA3412U-1M51)
DDR2-400/533 1GB (PA3411U-1M1G)

Hi there

I own Satellite P200 17c. My current memory is DDR2 PC2-5300 2gb. I would like to upgrade it to DDR2 PC2-6400 4gb ram. Can i do that and is there going to be some improvement of the speed if I upgrade to PC2-6400 instead PC2-5300?

On my P200 17c I have 2 HDDs. 2x100gb. I would like to upgrade one of those two HD from 100gb to 320gb 5400 rpm. Can i do that? and is it going to be some difference if I upgrade with HD that has 7200 rpm?

Thank you

Answer:HDD and memory upgrade on Satellite P200-17C

First of all: your machine is able to handle a maximum RAM capacity of 4GB but please be aware that you won?t be able to use the full 4GB due to some chipset limitations which are explained in the following article: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB82022E0000R01.htm

Regarding the module speed: the chipset specifications are defined for PC5300, so it will not enhance your speed when installing faster modules.

If you would like to upgrade your harddisk then just do it like you want, because there shouldn?t be any limitations, you can install a drive with 7200rpm together with a slower one.

The only difference will be that the faster drive will be faster. The whole system performance would only raise when you?re installing your OS on the faster drive (which is recommendation from my side :) )
