Nvidia graphics driver problem on my Satellite 5100

Question: Nvidia graphics driver problem on my Satellite 5100

I have a Toshiba S5100 201 which performed well and the very annoying problem with the Nvidia graphics driver. After much searching on the web, it would appear that a fix to the problem has not been found. If anyone has had better luck than me, please post a message.

When reporting the error to Microsoft an automatic replies states that there are no reported faults, therefore no solution. I searched the Toshiba website and they only have the original driver from 2002.

There are many posts concerning graphics problems with my particular model and several other Toshiba models but no word from Toshiba or Nvidia on the subject. This problem means that I have to shutdown and reboot many times, and often it just packs up without any notice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - Toshiba and Nvidia are also included in this request.

Ps I have tried a couple of drivers and am currently using GeForce 4 440

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Nvidia graphics driver problem on my Satellite 5100

Hi John

Usually you should always use the Toshiba graphic driver because only these drivers are designed for the notebook usage. The NVIDIA graphic driver you can use on the desktop PC.
Well, I found on the Toshiba download site a display driver update version 28.46. I don?t know if you have tried it but please check it.
Furthermore you can also check other Toshiba notebooks with the same graphic card if there is a latest version of the graphic driver.

But I?m not 100% sure if it?s graphic driver problem. Did you check if the recover procedure can solve this issue? If not, well, I think you should check also this possibility.

Really enjoy my laptop for gaming and it seems to cope with most games, however graphics technology moves on.
I would like to update the nvidia graphics card on my satellite 5100-603. Can anyone recommend a suitable card to upgrade with (for laptop).

Hi Alison

Many users in this forum ask for the graphic card upgrades possibilities. I have to say you that the upgrade is not possible. The graphic card on the notebook is different as on the desktop pc. This is a little chip which is fixed on the mainboard.
Unfortunately it?s not possible.

Hello out there,
this is a german calling...
I need an update for the graphic driver of a laptop toshiba satellite 5100-503, the nvidia geforce4 440 Go, which you cannot get on the nvidia site, where are no mobile systems to get.
My Laptop is quite slow. I just want to accelerate its performance.
Thanks outthere

Answer:Driver update for Satellite 5100-503 with NVIDIA geforce4 440 Go

This old notebook model is definitely not supported anymore and on Toshiba support page you cannot find any update. What you can do is to search around to find notebook with the same graphic card but maybe with newer driver and try to install it.

Can you please tell us why you need more graphic performance? For gaming?

I have Satellite A100-049 with Vista Home Premium. The graphics driver is NVidia GeForce Go 7300.
I sometimes get this error message when i start my laptop.
The error message is "Display Driver stopped working and recovered. Problem with nvlddmkm". I checked with Microsoft and Nvidia site and there is no driver update for this specification.
Please help me with this issue.

Answer:Problem with Nvidia Graphics Driver on Satellite A100-049

I suggest you the following:

Uninstall the nvidia driver from your system (maybe it would be good to use the program "DriverCleaner" -> ), go to these sites

choose your display driver (And don?t say you cannot find, the drivers work, I have a Sat A100 with Vista and it works :) )
download and then install it.

Should work

I have recently purchased a P750-05F.
The systems specs under windows 7 say

8 gig ram installed. 6 gig available for system ram.
For the graphics GT540M it says 2 gig dedicated, 4 gig available.

Obviously 2 gig of system ram is reserved for the graphics. How can i undo this?
I think 2 gig dedicated is more than enough.

I want to release the reserved 2 gig system ram back to system ram.
I cannot find any bios or graphics driver options to do this ??

Also what is the best latest nvidia driver to use for best performace on this laptop ?

Please help.

Answer:Satellite P750-05F reserved graphics memory and best nVidia driver

The graphic card shares the memory only if its needed. But you cannot change this manually. This is controlled by graphic card driver and the whole process runs automatically.

I have a Satellite 5100-501 which uses the NVIDIA GeForce 440 Go display adaptor.

Without changing any settings, the display stopped working about two weeks ago. Many other users have had the same problem (see, but nobody has yet been able to explain nor fix the problem. The best that can be done is to disable the driver, which means that the "suspend" function on the laptop no longer works, and leaves me with interference on the screen.

One theory is that a Windows Update has caused the problem. Reinstalling any number of drivers (including those recommended by NVIDIA and Toshiba) doesn't work.

This is a very irritating problem... can anyone help?

I've downloaded the latest graphics driver as suggested by NVIDIA for my GE Force 8800 GT Graphics Card. Driver v.196.21. It downloads ok but when I try to install it I get the Install Wizard which whizzes through then shows the following "The system has not been modified. To install the program at a later time run the installation again" I've run it again three times but the answer is still the same. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks. My OS is Windows Vista 32 bit.

Answer:Problem installing NVIDIA graphics driver

use control panel - add/remove progs and remove the old nvidia driver. Reboot and then try to install it. If that still does not work remove again and this time restart in safe mode by hitting key f8 before the windows logo starts.

Hi all, I'm new to graphics card, please have mercy. I have a hp pavilion P6000 series PC, it's 5 years old now. I had my graphics card replaced into a NVIDIA GT 610 graphics card 5 months ago. When I started using this graphics card it was okay for a week, no lags. It then started lagging for no reason and I don't know why. This lag occurs after a few seconds after desktop interface is shown on the screen. When it's lagging the mouse cursor doesn't run smoothly, it teleports when I'm moving my mouse, and when I put the mouse cursor over an icon the icon doesn't have that fade blue light shown immediately. So, I had to go to GeForce Experience app to reinstall my driver. After reinstalling the driver everything runs smoothly. No lags. Sometimes the screen just turns black and turns back on again and said that the driver stopped working and has recovered and everything runs smoothly ( this does not happen after I reinstall my driver, only happens if I had not reinstall my driver). Can someone help me with this problem? I'm really sick and tired of reinstalling my driver whenever I want to use my computer. Do drop questions if you don't understand what I'm talking about. Thanks

Sorry for my bad English.

I have fitted a 7200 card into the motherboard and uninstalled the motherboard graphics driver. Then when I got to install the card driver which I got off the internet it re-installs the motherboard graphics drive and says that it has Nvidia 6200 or Nvidia 6100B or something like that as a graphics card.

It is starting to anoy me now because I can't play even old games on it at the moment.

I have a Satellite 1100 with the Intel 82830M Graphics Card. The latest driver is version 14.7 which I have just installed - the Graphics icon in the bottom right corner changes from a multi-coloured square to a blue screen when you install this, and the mouseover text says "Intel(R) Extreme Graphics".

However, since installing this, my display freezes every time I start a game, or if I go into Display Properties & change anything. A hard reboot is then required. Also, the startup process takes 2-3 times as long since this upgrade.

Has anyone else experienced this problem ? Does anyone know of a solution ? I have seen a few posts on other forums about this, including some saying that this issue was caused by XP Service Pack 2. Can anyone confirm this ?

Answer:Problem with latest Graphics driver for Intel 82830M Graphics Card on Satellite 1100

I assume you have installed the graphic card driver from the Intel website and you use NOT a Toshiba graphic driver which was designed especially for the notebook usage.
Well, Toshiba recommend using the Toshiba drivers. In this case you should try to use the recommended graphic driver which you can download from the Toshiba driver page.

Hi, I have posted on multiple forums and been searching like crazy for a solution to this problem, but I am getting nowhere. Any assistance here would be truly appreciated
So here's what has happened: I was playing a game last week and it froze/crashed my laptop. Upon restarting, I would get a black screen after Windows 10 logo that never went away. Finally figured out while troubleshooting that I could boot in Safe Mode. I tried repairing Windows, re-installing Windows, updating drivers, etc. until I tried disabling the Intel HD Graphics 530 display adapter. My PC finally booted... but that was just the start.
After re-installing updates and programs, I tried playing a couple games, but everything was running at like 5 FPS. Turned out when I looked at Device Manager that my Nvidia driver was not taking when I would install it.
I eventually somehow fixed the black-screen on Windows logo problem when the Intel adapter was enabled, but I still cannot get my Nvidia driver/card to be activated by the PC. I have tried running Dell diagnostics, but since it does not detect the Nvidia card, it runs it for the Intel one instead. When I disable the Intel one, it does not detect any graphics drivers.
I have also checked the OS and hard drive; both come back with clean bills. Dell's driver update detect page says everything is up to date, except for "Chipset |Intel Management Engine Interface Driver," which keeps claiming it needs to be updated every time I ... Read more

Dear users,

Two days ago, I bought a Toshiba 15.6 Satellite L50-A-1EH model n:PSKK6E-07Q05CDU

By far I'm loving the device, but I keep getting BSOD notices whenever I start a game (probably because Intel switches to Nvidia?). I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M and am running Windows 8.1 64-bit.

The problem may be caused by the fact that I updated the driver of Nvidia at the first time of using my laptop. I have uninstalled the driver by Device Manager and reinstalled the driver of Nvidia from [here| =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=178&selProduct=7948&selSh ortMod=3983&language=12&selOS=47&selType=all&yearu pload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=a llMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=24 &selectedLanguage=12&type=all&page=1&ID=88288&OSID =47&driverLanguage=42 ]

But the BSOD kept coming. I again deleted the current installed driver and tried to install a new one from the nVidia site itself. Yet, again my game freezes and I get an error.

The error I get is:
System Thread Exception Not Handled

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not that good at computers so please keep that in mind.

Thanks a lot!

A660/07U Windows 7 64bit

To begin with, I need to install this driver as apparently it will solve an issue with the current driver that causes the computer to freeze when booting with an external monitor as the primary display.

I have downloaded the driver install file from the Toshiba web site and it is extracting ok but then when I run the program it just exits immediately without actually installing the drivers.

Device manager in windows doesn't seem to help either, because when I point it to the extracted folders it tells me I already have up-to-date drivers, even though my current driver version is a lower number than the downloaded one.

Rebooting has made no difference.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks in advance

W510 unable to utilize 3D graphics even though per Lenovo website my dirver is up to date.Running original W7 pro 64 bit and using original Nvidia graphics card Quadro FX 880M.Driver from Lenovo version released Dec. 1, 2013 ( I am on trial version of a floor plan/house designing software which is higly regarded and costly ($200) so don't think problem is with software. I definitely meet the minimum specs for software except for one:It needs graphics card to be able to run OpenGL 2.1 or higher in order to render 3D views of plan. Software (herafter noted as HDA) has determined that my graphics card is only offering OpenGL 1.0, and recommends driver update. So after talking with their tech support, I tried Nvidia driver 340.52 from Nvidia website released early July 2014. This was a catastrophe; still no 3D rendering, and numerous problems with even email or web browser and enormous system slow down. The Nvidia driver update also installed Nvidia Control Panel (also audio drivers). While Nvidia Control Panel opened it then went back and forth between Windows showing that it was "Not Responding" to briefly showing home screen of Control Panel (hereafter NCP). Never could access anything in NCP. HDA tech support wanted me to un-install NCP which I was unable to do other than using a WIndows system restore point, so I am back to square one with my lenovo graphics driver... AFAIK NVIDIA requires the NCP to be installed with it's driver package.Did you do a clean install of the 340.52 driver? Sometimes in-place upgrading NVIDIA drivers doesn't end well. Also try to exclude 3D Vision from the install.

Lenovo seems to be lagging behind in getting updated graphics drivers from Nivida to its loyal customers.  So I went to the Nvidia site and looked.  The date on my driver is 12/16/2008.  When I let nvidia scan my system it reports that it is driver 179.30.  The latest for the 105m is 186.  And to add insult to injury Nvidia says "The manufacturer of this system requires that you download the driver for your GPU from their support site."  Sooooooo....... I have two questions: 1)  for Lenovo - when do you expect to release a new Nvidia driver for us? 2)  for other (apparantly) forgotton loyal Lenovo cusoters like myself: .....Has anyone gone ahead and installed the Nvidia driver?  Does it work?  Are there problems?  How did you get around them? Ok sorry - that's more than 2 questions.  :-)  But I think you get my drift. Brassie

Answer:Graphics driver from Nvidia for my SL500 with the Nvidia Geforce G 105m?

1) The Lenovo drivers are tested rigiously to make sure it is not incompatible with the systems, so this is why it is so slow. 2) No, only the nvidia driver from Lenovo would work.

Well the question is,i checked nvidia web page to check last drivers,i saw that my pc got 295.55 and nvidia web page got 301.42,so i tried to update but is impossible. After download and press install it say that is not compatible, what is the way to update them?

Thanks so much.

And sorry for my english.

Answer:Re: Satellite P850 - cannot install Nvidia driver from NVIDIA webpage

It is well known that graphic card manufacturers don?t support cards used on mobile machines and used drivers are supported by notebook manufacturers directly.

Driver preinstalled by Toshiba is bit modified and offer notebook hardware protection (avoid overheating) so it is strongly recommended usage of Toshiba drivers only.

Are you not happy with graphic performance or what?

Select 'File Associations' from the options under 'Win XP Fixes' and then download the '.exe' zip file. Note the use of task manager to start the RegEdit program.

Hello. Let me start by saying that I'm not all that knowledgable about graphic cards, graphic drivers, and my current issue. I bought this PC roughly 2 years ago and customized it, so it's i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz, 16GB DDR3, 1TB HDD, AND it's suppose to have 2Gb Nvidia GeForce GT 740M dedicated graphics. I just recently started getting into PC gaming (i.e. Steam; Rocket League, H1Z1, etc). I've only had seldom issues playing rocket league, but the problems arose to when  I tried playing H1Z1. It was very slow and my fps weren't high either (even on low/medium setting). I started doing some research about why that would happen and it has to do with the graphics, so I tried checking out the graphics on my PC, but all I could find was the intel HD graphics info and control panel. I've read information that sometimes there could be two graphics in a PC so it either uses one or the other, but I can't seem to detect the nvidia hardware through the driver nor find any control panel. It says processor graphics in use is intel HD graphics 4600. I believe this laptop would've had the graphics incorporated with the motherboard or something so it would not be replaceable or removeable, but I don't seem to have it at all? My PC even has a little Nvidia GeForce sticker logo on it under where the intel inside core i7 sticker is next to the fingerprint reader. I currently have windows 10. Does anyone know what the issue is or was I just ripped by HP or something? ... I have just installed a hard disk from 40GB to 80GB and installed all the drivers in the correct sequence as instructed by toshiba. All is working fine other than .mov files used for Quicktime. All I get is audio but no picture - other than a coloured fuzzy screen!

I believe I have isolated the problem to the graphics driver. Whenever I disabled/uninstall the dedicated driver for the FX GP 5200 graphics card (version 4.6.44) Quicktime files work okay. It is only when I install the dedicated driver that the problems occur!

Can anyone advise me why this might be?

in my opinion this problem is related to the PCMCIA card driver!

If the PCMCIA card is recognized by the OS and there is no problem in the Device Manager, everything should be ok!

You can write us the PCMCIA card vendor and model name, bt I don't know if somebody could help you!

It will be better to connect the support of the PCMCIA vendor!

After many many hours of searching forums for solutions I have been unable to find a solution to my problem - so I decided to open a topic of my own and hope someone can help me with my problem specifically.

My problem is similar to this topic, although the solutions posted there aren't working for me. In short: I have been experiencing random but frequent BSODs (16 and counting) with the message 'driver power state overload' being displayed.

In my quest for a solution I wanted to upgrade my drivers, when I noticed my Nvidia Geforce 650M graphics card seems to have disappeared. When I try to install the latest driver from Nvidia's website I get the error 'graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware'. Attempting to open the Nvidia control panel gives me the message 'An Nvidia graphics card was not detected on your system' and I cannot find the card listed in the device manager (only the intel HD graphics family is listed under display adapters)... To be clear: I'm quite sure my laptop SHOULD have this card, it's just not detecting it for some reason.

Since the symptoms of my problem are exactly the same as described in the topic linked above, I have tried to follow the solution described by Arc. Installed Driver Fusion, started in in safe mode and tried to delete Nvidia drivers - but nothing seemed to be listed here. I still clicked delete but not sure if this actually did something or not.

Answer:BSOD driver power state / Nvidia graphics driver problems

Hello Zephos.

As per the supplied data, this is the specification of your graphics.

Name Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
PNP Device ID PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0166&SUBSYS_21031043&REV_09\3&11583659&2&10
Adapter Type Intel(R) HD Graphics Family, Intel Corporation compatible
Adapter Description Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Adapter RAM (2.080.374.784) bytes
Installed Drivers igdumd64.dll,igd10umd64.dll,igd10umd64.dll,igdumd32,igd10umd32,igd10umd32
Driver Version
So, it says it is not nVidia. But as you are saying that it was Nvidia Geforce 650M, and it disappeared, the best option is to contract the vendor. I wish you are within warranty?

The user guide doesn't spell out the differences between the S5100-201 and S5100-603 models.
I can work out they are different speeds, memory and hard disk size but what about the internal bits?

I have a broken -603 model with a power control fault. Does anyone know if the systemboard from a -201 model will fit into the -603 unit?

Answer:Differences between Satellite 5100-201 & 5100-603

I am not technician but I have found info that those units have different graphic card and both can not handle with max RAM.

Satellite 5100-201:
- nVidia GeForce4 440Go 32 MB
- can handle with max 512 MB RAM

Satellite 5100-603:
- nVidia GeForce4 440Go 64 MB
- can handle with max 1024 MB RAM

I am not 100% sure but if you exchange the whole Mb with all hardware components I believe that other peripheral devices should work well but I don?t know how it will work with BIOS. Maybe the DMI must be rewritten.

On this forum there are few guys with very good knowledge and I hope some of them will post here and say more about that.

after the restart, my pc reverted to primitive resolution. i checked in device manager and saw an error code 37 in the graphics driver saying that it wont run.

i downloaded Display Driver Uninstaller to be able to remove all nvidia components in safe mode then tried clean installation. then i encountered the same error. i tried to use system restore and reverted back to a previous working state but then started to experience unexpected laggs.

a new driver was published and i tried to update mine again to version 355.6. then i encountered the error code 37 again. exactly the same. my system restore point to an earlier working version got automatically wiped clean by my pc and all restore points now are versions without any graphics driver.

i have tried to search the internet for all sort of related problem but unfortunately i was unable to find anything that would work for me.

maybe just maybe its a malware? can anybody here be kind enough to help me? pls. thanks!!!!!!

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.
When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.
Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.
Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

Answer:Manufacturer's graphics driver or Nvidia driver?

If it's just the driver we are talking about then you should download the latest version from the manufacturer. Just look for the WHQL as it will not be a BETA driver.
Personally, I never go with the drivers that comes with the card itself.

NVIDIA Graphics Driver has stopped working properly.  I go to the Windows Update and there is none.  Would it be a good idea to install it manually?  I get the blue screen and also the Kaspersky Antivirus I use is corrupted as well.  If someone could tell me how to go about download the NVIDIA Graphics Driver?  Thanks.

Sounds like you have more problems than just a graphics driver. What do you mean your antivirus is corrupted? How do you know? I was checking to see if there was a newer driver version for my Geforce 9800 GTX, so I chose Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products on the Nvidia website. It said there was a newer version so I clicked on Learn more and it said that it "Adds supports for GeForce 9800 GT and GeForce 9500 GT GPUs," but I checked in the products supported and my card is listed.

I get to the installion part and a warning pops up with: The software you are installing for this hardware: Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+ has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. Continuing your installion of this software may impair...blah blah blah.

My question is...should I go ahead and install it anyway?

Hi, The Nvidia driver you see listed is not applicable to your particular notebook. HP tend to list all drivers for the same series of notebooks ( ie x360 m6 - w1xx ).  For example, the x360 m6-w105dx does have a Nvidia gpu. Regards, DP-K

Hi All.

I am trying to install an NVIDIA graphics driver after having recently loaded Windows 7 on some old hardware.

Original OS - Windows XP Pro
New OS - Windows 7 Pro
512 MB RAM

I understand that the minimum system requirements for Windows 7 is 1GB of RAM however I thought I would give it a go and see what the performance is like with half of that, I guess half out of curiousity. I am wondering if simply upgrading the RAM may fix the issue perhaps but I will continue with my question
in the meantime.

The processor is capable being an Intel Centrino Duo at 1.83GHz.

I guess I could be cut short on my question here and told to upgrade the RAM which may well be the solution to my problem, however I will be swapping over the RAM from another old laptop very shortly (I am not at home at the moment) and was wondering if anyone could advise as to whether this would be the only issue I am facing here.

Here is an outline of what I have been trying to get both the original NVIDIA XP driver and a Windows 7 driver to function properly and the results I have come across......

Ran scan at NVIDIA HERE: NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Automatically Detect NVIDIA Products

Scan indicated that I am using the latest driver for GeForce Go 7400 graphics card and no update is
required but the Device Manager indicates that I am using the Standard Windows Graphics driver.

Answer:NVIDIA Graphics Driver BSOD

Hi Shelly1234.

You tried a lot. Very exhaustive lot. But, it is unfortunate that there is no driver available that NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 GPU (c:\windows\system32\drivers\nv4_mini.sys) that is compatible with windows 7.

Though nvidia says that your GPU is compatible with Windows 7. And as per them, the latest available driver version is 179.48 (Released on February 11 2009 whereas windows 7 released on October 22, 2009. I doubt the compatibility for this reason). It is unfortunate that you cannot install it.

Nothing else is left in nvidia's part to try.

But, as they say that the GPU is compatible, you may take a last chance. Make your installation driver complete itself, and let it obtain the appropriate driver itself.
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
If the situation remains the same even after doing such a clean install, either not use windows 7 with that laptop (8 years old I guess?) or change the GPU to something newer.

This problem was caused by NVIDIA Graphics Driver, which was created by NVIDIA Corporation. There is no solution for this problem at this time.

I'm running Windows 7, Ultimate that was recently re-installed. At that time Windows installed a graphics driver. Since Dell update reported an update driver was available, I tried to update the driver for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560ti. The update appeared to download properly but the NVIDIA Installer failed... indicating that (1) Microsoft.NET framework version 4 did not install and (2) NVIDIA GeForce Experience 2.1.6 did not install. The error message reads: "The required line was not found in the INF." I downloaded and installed Microsoft.NET framework, but the identical error message persists. Nothing will install from the NVidia site.
I have tried to install from the Dell drivers update site as well as Dell reports that "an error" occurred during installation. I received this computer as a replacement several years ago. While the computer was replaced the display was not and no drivers CD was sent with the replacement machine.

Just to be clear is this the driver you downloaded? NVIDIA DRIVERS 179.48 BETA
(this is the Windows 7 32 bit version so if you have 64 bit, it will be a different driver)

You've probably found this already but here is some more info from HP Finding Software and Drivers After Changing the Operating System to Windows 7 HP Pavilion dv2819nr Entertainment Notebook PC - HP technical support (Turkey - English)

If it is, can you get the dump files and maybe repost your question in the Crashes and Debugging forum? There are a lot of experts in there who will analyze your dump files for you and they can go from there

Also, make sure you add your FULL system specs so we know what we are looking at.

Here is the link to how to post a dump file

While your problem is related to the graphics card (and you rightly posted in here), it may help you out if you are getting crashes to get the files analyzed.

My new Z500 Touch laptop has a 311.27 Nvidia Graphics driver for its 740m. When I got to the Nvidia website, the latest graphics driver supporting 740m is the 320.18. If I go to the Lenovo Z500 touch driver page, it doesn't list any graphic drivers, so I can't update from there. Even though this is not from the Lenovo website, would anyone recommend installing the driver from the Nvidia site? I have no problem getting drivers from Nvidia for my various systems.  You're always getting the latest available drivers right from the source. As for improvements, I don't own your model, but in general using the latest video drivers is always a good idea especially with Nvidia.  They continually tweak their drivers for the best system performance.

Hi. I have a GTX570 and have had my computer for a little over 2 years with no problems whatsoever. About a week ago my computer starting randomly turning off (conveniently mere weeks after the warranties on most of my parts has expired). The computer doesn't actually shut down entirely as the fans still spin and everything but the screen just goes black. Since the first crash, subsequent crashes have happened anywhere from a couple of days after restarting my computer to before I can even enter my password on the Windows startup screen. It's completely and utterly random. I've yet to have a crash in while in safe mode, but that might just be luck. I should note that although Windows describes the problem as BlueScreen, I've never actually get to see it. The screen just goes black and that's it. And of course, when I try to troubleshoot the problems, Windows either can't download the solution or gives me something entirely useless. I've tried the following...

- Updating to the newest drivers
- Uninstalling and re-installing my old drivers
- System Restore to point prior to first crash
- Temperature Check
- Cleaning the ever loving crap out of my computer

...all to no avail. I've searched around here and couldn't quite seem to find anyone with the same problem as me. Screenshots of what Windows give me in the Action Center and my Event Viewer as well as my minidump are attached. I'm starting to twitch here. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:NVIDIA Graphics Driver has stopped working

Your crashes are related to dxgkrnl.sys

What is the dxgkrnl.sys file?

I'd reinstall Direct-X...

Frequent crashes like yours if you didn't change anything and not a heat issue, likely your PSU has gone bad, you can buy a PSU tester for roughly $20.

PSU's are basically a failure point that everyone will run into sooner or later, if your PSU is mediocre, 2 years is not that unusual.

I am working on an HP Pavilion (See system details below) that I have been trying to fix for a friend. After a Windows update, the user reported that the system stopped booting into anything other than safe mode. I found some virus infections and decided to re-install the OS from the recovery partition. After doing this, the system still failed to boot anytime the graphics card was initialized. Every time I install any of the NVIDIA graphics drivers (I even tried some of the older ones) the system fails to boot (hangs with black screen right after the loading Windows scroll bar, then goes into repeated re-boot). I have to boot into safe-mode and roll back the driver to the generic VGA driver every time. The generic driver works just fine to boot the machine, but the resolution is low and the graphics are somewhat sluggish. I am assuming that this is a driver problem, since the video card does work when I use the generic VGA Windows driver. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I have experienced a BSOD a few times right after installing the drivers. The BSOD referenced “NVLDDMKM.SYS”. I also noticed that a couple of items are added to startup and an NVIDIA service is also started when the driver package is installed.

It is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 460m graphics card

I need help with what the best driver is for my 460m since the ones I have been trying out have constantly crashed my laptop so far, even the newest version listed on nvidia's website.

Answer:What's best driver for Nvidia GeForce 460m graphics?

I believe the best driver you can use for your graphic card is the one you get from Nvidia?s home page itself. At their site it helps you to either automatically find the right driver for your card, or by manually searching the driver for your card. Usually the beta drivers cause problems, such as crash as they are not completely finished, and its best to wait until they are completely developed.

I have this big issue with my HP Envy 17t Notebook PC. Its default video graphics card is Intel HD 4600 but i noticed from the HP website that it also comes with an Nvidia graphics card, which I have downloaded. Installing this downloaded Nvidia graphics card, I always get this message: "NVIDIA installer cannot continue. This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." I'm an Architect and cannot run all my programs on Intel HD 4600 card alone. I need a better video graphics card, which is why I prefer using the Nvidia card! I'll be glad if someone can help me on ways to solve this issue ("NVIDIA installer cannot continue. This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware") as soon as possible! Best regards!!

We need your exact model number. The switchable graphics on machines that originally came with Windows 7/8/8.1 has trouble making the transition to Windows 10...driver issues. And you do not want to install the driver from the nVidia site as if it is a standalone nVidia video card. You need to use the HP driver designed to drive both the Intel and the nVidia.  I had an Envy 17t-j029nr with Intel 4600 and nVidia 750M and on Windows 8.1 the switchable graphics worked fine. You do have to enable it on a program by program basis through the nVidia control panel.  If you intend to use the laptop for production type CAD work I strongly suggest you roll it back to the original factgory OS and video drivers as currently updated through the HP Support Assistant.

Somehow over the last two weeks my vidio support has gone south. The vidio driver in control is the vgasave (microsoft default for when it doesn't think another driver is available) and not the nvidia Quadro FX570M that it should be. Now the device manager shows the Nvidia driver and as 'working properly'. Currently it is the version. I did get some success for a day or so with the 'roll back driver' getting the Nvidia back in control but it has since flipped back to the vgasave driver. The system is a T61P, 4Gig ram, widescreen 1920 res, and though to be up to date on all softwares, running WinXp Pro. Seems there are lots of issues with this video system from looking around the web. So who has clues on what I should try next?? -ken c

Hey guys,

Windows Vista 32-bit
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual core processor 6400 +
2gb ram
Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT

So I went to Nvidia and downloaded the latest driver, at the time it was 260.89 I believe and it failed, and so does the most current driver (260.99). But when I tried to download it my first time (260.89), it totally changed everything:

1. Now I can't play ANY games because it gives me error messages like "Unable to initialize renderer"
2. DxDiag only shows "N/A" next to basically everything under the Display tab.
3. The sleep option is now grayed out

Whenever I try to download the drivers again the Graphics Driver installation always fails.

So what the hell happened? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Answer:Nvidia 260.99 graphics driver install failed

Hi Nohone welcome to Techspot,

have you tried doing a rollback on the graphics card? this will hopefully revert your drivers back to the origional setup. You can do this from the hardware setup OR via system restore and re-set your computer BACK to a date before you installed the drivers. This wont effect your personal files but MAY effect any new software you may have installed.

Also make sure you ahve downloaded the correct drivers for it i.e. the VISTA-32 bit drivers instead of the VISTA-64 bit drivers.

A link for the latest driver for your graphics card can be found here:

Hope this helps

Ok. So I just got a new nvidia 9600 gt graphics card. Uninstalled onboard graphics and installed the card. plugged my monitor into card. Seemed to work fine, windows loaded installed the driver and told me to restart. As it loaded up until the windows 7, right before logon screen I hear the graphics card's fan slow down to a whisper (its pretty loud). Windows hangs at the load screen for 15minutes before I absolutely know something wrong. I restart, same thing. I system restore to get back into windows; download a new driver from, update the driver, and I'm still getting this issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I also have a geforce gtx 260, but when trying that one windows fails to even recognize it.

Asus M3A78-T
AMD Phenom IIx4
4gb moshin ram
corsair 650w
2TB hitachi HDD

EDIT: forgot to add, updated bios, enabled PCI-E as primary and disabled onboard video.

SOLVED. Imagine getting not one, but TWO DOA graphics cards. Very weird. I returned the gtx 260 for a ATI radeon HD 5770. Popped her in and she is working beautifully. Honestly with two DOA graphics cards I was really pushing towards something else being messed up with my rig, i was positive it wasn't the graphics cards...not both. The RNG strikes again!

Sounds like a problem with either the card or the PCI bus on that one. Try switching to a different slot maybe?

I recently downloaded the newest drivers for my graphics card since I hadn't checked in some months, and ever since I've been having a few problems. I noticed after I installed the drivers (93.71) the screen was flickering. I checked the refresh rate, and the flickering wouldn't go away untill the refresh rate was set at the highest (120 hz) (I'm only running it at 800 x 600). Every once in a while I have problems playing movies that use windows media player or web browser windows media player plugins. The colors are sometimes inverted, or simply all black with only audio. Sometimes though after fiddling with the nVidia control panel the video starts working normally again.

I also noticed, when I try to play certain games, in this case America's Army 2.81, I get the same screen shaking/flickering again.

I've had problems with the display before after updating drivers, but it usually only involves a little tweaking. Is there something I should check/change now after updating to the version 93.71 drivers, or should I just rollback to the previous ones shince everything worked fine then?

I have a Nvidia 9500 GT wich works fine in XP. I upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit. The correct driver for the card is 280.26 according to the Nvidia site. The card is compatible with Win 7. However, when I attempt too install the card, it says "NVIDIA graphics driver not compatible with this version of Windows". The Nvidia utility also detects an error when it tries to detect the card.

I suspect there may be a chipset issue?

Answer:NVIDIA graphics driver not compatible with this version of Windows

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You might want to check whether you downloaded the 64-bit version of the graphics driver instead of the 32-bit one. It's an easy mistake to make as I know only too well, having done it myself in the past.

As for your chipset drivers, it won't hurt to get the latest ones for the 32-bit version of Windows 7.

My desktop system is experiencing unexpected shutdowns, apparently related to the NVIDIA Graphics Driver per the Windows problem report. Basically, the system will not now reboot into Normal mode. I have done a System Restore to a date prior to the first unexpected shutdown, but the system will still not reboot into Normal mode.

Here are some particulars:
? Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) with SP1.
? All available Windows updates are installed.
? HP Pavilion; 2 GB RAM; system is about 1.5 years old; problem first surfaced on 9/8/2008; never had a problem before.
? Intel Core2 Duo cpu
? NVIDIA GeForce 7500LE graphics card
-Original NVIDIA driver version: dated 8/27/2007
-Updated NVIDIA driver version: dated 5/16/2008 (downloaded from NVIDIA web site)
? No new hardware, no new software; no over-clocking.

What I observe:
? The windows problem report says: ?The problem was caused by NVIDIA Graphics Driver??there is no solution for this problem at this time? ? and it recommends updating the drivers which I did.
? The ?blue screen? reporting the crash has vertical red lines; some of the boot screens have only filled zeros.
? The ?blue screen? ?Technical Information? says:
o "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed". This line is on the page that notes the nvlddmkm.sys as part of the 'Technical Information'.

Hi: Below is the link to the product specs page for your notebook. Your notebook does not come with an Intel Skylake chipset (that would have an Intel 6th generation core processor). Your notebook only has the onboard Intel 4400 HD graphics, so the nvidia graphics driver on your notebook's support page is not applicable to your model. HP puts all of the available drivers on every model 14-n### support page.  Some models do have the Intel/Nvidia switchable graphics.

Problem number 1: why are you using windows tinyxp ? yes it is stable on some degrees but it has some flaws even when being shrunken down.

Windows XP home or Professional needs a minium of 2gbs of space to install, once installed get rid of the apps or utilities you don't want using add/remove programs and components found in control panel.
I know the author who did tinyxp and tiny7 and he probably left out somethings thats giving you problems.

Problem 2: with graphic driver identifier directly from nvidia.

I would like to get a clarification on the Graphics driver version numbering of Intel and Nvidia.

Intel uses the following schema to define the driver versions.

7. 14. 10. 1322
VISTA DirectX Intel Build number

For example, this driver works with Windows Vista* operating system and supports Microsoft DirectX* 9. The last four numbers represent the Intel build number.

Intel Identifier Operating System Version
8 Windows 7*
7 Windows Vista*
6 Windows* 2000 and Windows* XP
5 Windows 2000 only
4 Windows*95/98/98SE/Me or Windows NT* 4.0

Intel Identifier DirectX* Version
15 10.x
14 9.x
13 8.x
12 7.x
11 6.x

7 Denotes VISTA Operating System
14 Denotes DirectX 9.x
1322 Denotes Intel Build Number

What is 10, it denotes for ?

NVIDIA Graphic Drivers

NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS
Driver :

7 Denotes VISTA Operating System
15 Denotes DirectX 10.x
6369 Denotes Intel Build Number

Can anyone help me to find out the significance of digit 10 in Intel and 11 in Nvidia driver version?
