I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite U400-146 - How to start recovery without the recovery disk

Hi

The Recovery disk was not provided with the notebook because there was a tool called Toshiba Recovery disk Creator which allows you to create a recovery disk!
Please check if you can create a recovery disk using this tool!

If this is not possible, then you can check if the HDD recovery is available.
For more details check this HOW TO:
[How to recover a Toshiba notebook with the HDD recovery procedure?|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=58]

As last option you can order a recovery disk from here:

i have Toshiba Satellite U400 121. My recovery Disk is not working may be due to the scratches i see in it. i took the Laptop to the Toshiba service Centre and i got negative support from them. They said, they cant put back the Windows Vista since recovery disk is not there and they put the Windows XP in it and handed over to me.
later i came to know that the Windows Xp is not Geninue one. :|

I still see one of Partition "D:" having HDDRecovery Folder in it.

So Can i use Recovery Disk of any Other Toshiba Laptop model's as the recovery disk of Toshiba Satellite U400 121.

Actually i tried with another model's Recovery disk, In that while booting with that disk the recovery wizard starts up, but since am not sure of it i stopped it there and did Exit.

Kindly any one of you let me know if you have valuable inputs on this.

suggestions are welcome !

Thanks in Advance.

Answer:Re: Can I use Recovery Disk from other Satellite U400 series

Hi

I?m not sure what Satellite U400-121 series it is but you have to use the Recovery disk designed especially for this notebook series!

Other recovery disk cannot be used because the drivers and tools which have been implemented into the Toshiba image are not designed for this notebook series!

By the way; you can order the Recovery disk from here:

Hi all,

I have my Satellite U400, I created the recovery DVD and I used two or three times to restore my system. But now I tried but always failed during the installation, I think some of the restore files are corrupted and can't be coppied to the computer.

So, now am stuck without my orginal operating system.

Any one can advise what shall I do?

BR

Answer:Satellite U400 - Recovery disk is maybe corrupted

How the files on recovery DVD can be corrupted?
What the problem can be is DVD itself or the HDD make some problems.
Check if the DVD surface is clean and without scratches.

Can you use F8 for OS installation?
Is recovery image still on second partition?

Hi,

Before I start a very important message: I usually don't work with pc...:-) At my work we have an IT-department for our PC's :-))

However, now I have to work privately with a PC/ notebook and I need help: I am sitting in front of a Toshiba Satellite U400-11Q with a completely newly formatted HDD and unfortunately with NO recovery CD or DVD whatsoever !!

So far I have managed to format the HDD aagain and to put a WindowsVista Home Basic (OEM Software) from my old pc onto this notebook. However, nothing works yet ( I want to get into the Internet etc.)

Therefore I now need to put on all relevant drivers as well as the original TOSHIBA drivers, right ?

How do I do this ? Which drivers to I need ? Do I need to download all relevant drivers (totally 113) one by one from the Toshiba website ?

ANY help is appreciated as I can see myself spending the whole night in front of this PC..

Thanks,
M

Answer:Re: Satellite U400-11Q with Vista has new HDD but no recovery disk

For well working notebook you need to install all necessary drivers, tools and utilities.
All of them you can find on Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

All stuff must be installed following right install order. Here it is:
Windows Vista SP1
Intel Chipset Module
Intel Robson(Intel iMSM Driver)
Intel Crestline-GM / UMA Driver
or
AMD M82XT /M86 Driver
Conexant CX20561 Audio Driver
Marvell 8040/8055 LAN Driver
Synaptics Touch Pad Driver
Conexant Modem Driver
Wireless LAN Driver
Chicony Camera Software
Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba
CIR Port Driver
TOSHIBA Value Added Package
TOSHIBA Hardware Setup Utility
TOSHIBA Supervisor Password
TOSHIBA SD Memory Utilities
Authentec AES1610 Fingerprint Utility
TOSHIBA ConfigFree
TOSHIBA Assist
TOSHIBA Speech System
CD/DVD Drive Acoustic Silencer
Toshiba HDD Protection
TOSHIBA Face Recognition
TOSHIBA TRS Driver
Broadcom V2.14.4.0
HDMI Control Manager
ProtonPack for Vista

Install all stuff following this list. If something is missing just continue with next one.

By the way: this machine runs perfectly with Win7 32bit so I strongly recommend you to use Win7 instead of Vista.

I have a Satellite U400-PSU44E and Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit pre-installed, and having a few problems with my computer, had decided to use the hidden partition on the hard disk drive to repair the system.
I selected "Repair Your Computer" (or something similar to that), but having done so, a message tells me that,

"The installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer."

I'm not sure why this is. Can anyone help? It would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Re: Satellite U400 - Can't start the system recovery

Sounds like the recovery Partition is faulty. You can order replacement Recovery Discs from Toshiba. Which country are you in?

Another possibility could be that the HDD has failed. in which case you would need to send the system to an ASP for repair.

Help plz!

I was trying to run recovery disk using F12 key, i kept getting warning "this HDD is not initialized"-initialise HDD & restart. Are u sure u want to continue? I clicked yes -error F3e1000001(hard disk not found) - I clicked no it turned the computer off!

I tried different way by pressing 0 key as im turning the power on, since then I can no longer load window XP, it is automatically running "RAM disk image" then loading recovery tool & followed by the same warning HDD is not initialized & so on then eventually turn the laptop off by itself!

Plz help if you can! Thanks!

Answer:Satellite Pro U400 - WXP doesn't start & can't run recovery either

Hi

I guess your HDD is faulty.
Is the HDD recognized in BIOS?

If not, replace the HDD and try the recovery disk again.

Hi all,

I have a 13inch Satellite U400.
Due to problems with my Softkeys, illumination and hibernate status (any help on thos would be useful too) I want to create a recovery DVD with the Toshiba recovery disc creator.

The thing is: it starts when I have a CD-Rom in the DVD drive, but as soon as I put a DVD in (which is required) it gives me an errormessage that says something like " A different application uses this drive or no recording drives where found in the laptop. Error code 0D00E4-F0-00000000).

My DVD-drive is working properly, I can play movies and the drivers and status is ok too.
I have noticed, that the errorcode changes, but I don't know how to get the recovery disk creator going.

What can I do? Change something in the registry?
I don't know what happened to my notebook, I bought it a couple of months ago - new. I guess, resetting everything would bring my softkeys, illumination and hibernate status back.

So, if anyone nows how to work at least one of the problems out, please give me advice.

Thanks in advance,

wiglip

Answer:Satellite U400 - unable to create recovery disk - bad DVD-drive?

Hi

Did you create virtual CD/DVD drives with such special software? If yes, remove the software completely. Furthermore if you have installed burning programs you should check if they will started on Windows start up and if yes, disable the start up. Therefore go to start > run > msconfig > start up. There you can disable the start up of the burning programs (for example Nero, CD Burner XP, etc.).

And what DVDs do you use for burning? I have good experience with Verbatim DVD-R and TDK disks. These are high quality disks and you should try it too!

Last but not least you should remove the upper and lower filters in registry. This is always advisable with problems of the CD/DVD drive:
1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
4) Reboot.

According your problem with the illumination keys you should try to reinstall the Toshiba Value Added Package. This controls the illumination buttons, FN keys and other special function on your notebook. I had a similar issue with illumination buttons my Qosmio F50 and I posted something about this in the Qosmio forum that you should try it too!!!

Hi,

I have a Satellite U400 (few years old), and I never created the recovery DVD.
Now I want to do it, but for some reasons, when I launch Toshiba recovery disc creator, nothing happens...
The partition with the recovery files is there, as well as the folder HDDRecovery. I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Satellite U400 Impossible to create recovery DVD with Recovery disc creator

>I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?
No. if you didn?t change partitions structure this should not be the problem.

Question is: does Toshiba recovery disc creator start or not? If you cannot star this tool it has nothing to do with recovery files.
Can you find this file - C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator\TRORDCLauncher.exe ?

Hi,

I did order the recovery disk, but it won't start up, so I still cannot erase my harddisk.
So far i have tried:
- starting and press f8
- starting and press c
- starting and press 0

I have already changed my boot order, but my laptop still won't start from CD. At the support page I have found many ways to fix it, but nothing works. It also seems like the cd/dvd isn't recognized.

Does anyone know what I can do now? Thanks for helping :)

Answer:Satellite P300-18m - Recovery disk won't start up

Hey,

What notebook model you have exactly?

Normally you can start from Toshiba recovery disk if you enter the BIOS boot menu and select CD/DVD drive as boot device. Then press ENTER and the computer will boot from the disk. The key combinations that you mentioned like F8, c, etc. doesn?t work, they are for HDD recovery.

Having just aquired a new PC In decided to clean up the old one as it is not running well and frequently crashes. I started to run the recovery cd-rom (Start pc, hold C etc) and the first screen showed a message about *starting Windows 98*! I quickly aborted the process and there is no change to my PC.
As my old PC (Satellite P10) came with *Windows XP Home* I was surprised by the Windows 98 reference.

Can anyone explain what is happening? I am scared to continue with the restore.

Answer:Satellite P10 - Recovery disk start with Windows 98

Hi weematt_1,

I?m not 100% sure but as far as I know it?s normal that you will see ?starting Windows 98? for a short time because the recovery installation program is DOS/WIN98 based but that doesn?t mean Windows 98 will be installed.

If the recovery disk contains Windows XP it will be installed but the recovery image installer is based on DOS and so Windows 98 will be started.

You should try it! I?m pretty sure because as far as I know the same happened to me on my older Toshiba notebook.

I have a Satellite L300 1AS Laptop running Vista and I want to restore back to factory settings as when bought.

I created the 2 DVD restore discs when first setup.
When I boot from DVD drive with restore discs I get to choose language then that's it. When I click 'next' I can't go any further. I can move mouse but that's it. I have tried booting up then pressing F8 and then repair Windows but only get a black screen and nothing else.

Is there anything else I can try to format my drive back to factory settings

Answer:Satellite L300 - Nothing happens if I start the recovery disk

What is the reason you want to run Recovery in the first place? Was it not booting properly? Was it giving a BSOD?

Can you hear noises from the Hard Disk?

Test the Hard Disk for errors by using DFT.
DFT Download: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT

Download the ISO File and burn it to a CD-R Disc (There is also a Floppy Disk version if that's easier).
If you dont know how to burn an ISO file, read this guide: http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm
Restart your laptop and boot from the DFT Disc.
Choose the "Advanced" Test and let it run (it may take an hour or so).
If you see a red message box, the HDD is faulty.
An error od 0x70 means there are bad sectors and the HDD needs replacing.

Also test the RAM for errors. www.memtest.org

Yes, maybe you will find someone that has the same notebook and make a new recovery disk for you but you can order a new one from Toshiba directly:

A new recovery disk is not for free because it was your mistake that you didn?t create one. ;)

Hi, Hope someone can help.

Laptop stopped working - keeps trying to fix problem via windows on start-up but this just hangs for hours so I ordered a recovery disc to start a fresh as I believe the original problems were caused by a virus. I have no important data to keep so am OK with clearing everything and restarting. Today. I have just received my Product Recovery disc that I ordered from Toshiba. I follow the instructions; load disc, power on holding C. Then it just continues as if the Recovery CD wasnt in the drive. The CD drive doesnt spin. Its as if the laptop doesnt recognize the disc.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 - Recovery disk fails at start

Well, either i?s something wrong with recovery disk itself or the drive doesn?t detect the disk properly?

What happens if you access the BIOS boot menu (F12 key) and select CD/DVD drive as boot device?
If it doesn?t work try another bootable disk to make sure the drive is working properly.

Answer:Satellite U400-15B - How to use recovery discs?

Hi

The using of Toshiba recovery disk is very easy! If you have created the disk you have only to boot from the first one. Therefore go in the BIOS boot menu and select the CD/DVD drive where you have entered the disk before.

The computer will now try to boot from Toshiba recovery disk and installs factory settings back. Only few clicks are necessary and you have to wait some minutes where you can drink a coffee for example. ;)

The disk contains an image of factory settings and that means it wipes the whole HDD and creates the partitions again. All drivers and tools will be installed automatically and your computer is ready to use again!

How I can recover my laptops to its original state as HDD recovery still in d:
Thanks in adv

Answer:Satellite Pro U400-12y: How to use HDD recovery after new OS installation

Hi

You will be not able to restore it to the factory settings because another OS has been installed on the first partition.
Usually pressing the F8 immediately after the notebook has been powered up should enable the advanced menu on the screen. There you should choose option called ?Repair my Computer? and Toshiba recovery HDD.

But if this doesn?t work then you will be not able to use the HDD recovery.
In such case you have to order new Disk from here:

Talk about confusing. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 working after the HDD has failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will the recovery disk ( if you purchase one from Toshiba ) rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS ) and accept the product key printed on the Windows License attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions but these have been deemed incorrect by others.

Surely Toshiba must have a way of sorting this problem.

Do they read these posts ?

Answer:Satellite L660-12Q - Would recovery disk rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition

Hi buddy?

I don?t think that this is really complicated? I could find all info regarding the recovery procedure in the user manual?

The recovery disk has to be created at the first day of purchase? its recommended to create one in cases something would be wrong with the HDD.

The recovery disk contain an image?. Image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff preinstalled on the notebook.
You purchased the notebook and the system was already activated so you don?t need the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
Furthermore the usage of recovery disk formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HDD recovery. This HDD recovery does not need recovery disk. Usage of HDD recovery would format ONLY the C (system) partition.

When I try restoring with Recovery disk that came with laptop, it goes through both disk 1 and 2 and starts with the starting windows for first time and then goes to the blue greenish screen with the spinner Please wait....thne black screens for a second or 2 then goes back to spinner please wait, then it pops up box "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware." only option is to click OK.

When click ok you get another msg that says "windows could not complete the installation, to install windows reinstall." I have tried like 50 times now. Hallo,

my satellite u400-22z came with a big fat "hdd recovery" folder on the hard drive - yes I know what it's for,
but the insufferably awful version of windows vista that came with the machine made me decide that, in a case of system fault, I will not again install that failed attempt of an operating system.
So I don't care for that recovery data.

So those ~ 11 GB of junk sitting on my drive is bugging me, I cannot delete the HDDRecovery folder, it it somehow protected from deletion.

How can I circumvent that ?

Also, is it safe or can I make it safe, to use the seemingly hidden small partition (is this for recovery also?) I found, which is IIRC ~ 2GB or so big, for own purposes, without wrecking my current windows installation ?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Hi there,

I tried to reinstall Win Vista Home Premium to my Satellite U400-183. I used a Win OS DVD that came with my other Notebook from an other manufacture and the Key which came with my Toshiba notebook. Everything worked just fine but in certain areas of Windows still are some specific settings from the other manufacture. Now is there a possibility to get a Windows Vista DVD from Toshiba?

Another question is where I can get the AHCI drivers. There is only a exe file on the support site which i can't use while installing Windows. There have to be these .sys files but I can't find them on the Toshiba site, so I had to install Windows in compatibility mode.

THX in advance!

PS: Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Germany...

Answer:Satellite U400-183 - Need Recovery DVD and AHCI drivers

Hi!

A new recovery DVD you can get from your local ASP (authorized service provider).
Or you order a DVD from Toshiba directly:
https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

The AHCI drivers or lets say Intel Storage Manager you can download from the Toshiba website as you already said.
The .exe file you must extract to use it during the installation but with the recovery disk you don?t need them.
Please read the readme file in from the Storage Manager, there is an example how to extract it. Use he command line
For example: -A -A -PC:\<path>

Hi there,

I just bought my nw Toshiba laptop (U400-138 to be specific).
It came with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed with option to recover it from HDD. During the installation the disk was partitioned as this:

C:/ 145GB - Windows Vista
E:/ 150 GB - Data

The E disk contains the HDD recovery folder.
The problem here is that I would like to use Linux instead of Vista and also I would like to re-partition the disk in a different way.

So here are my questions:

1.) Is it possible to move the HDD recovery folder to separate and possibly much smaller partition (6 GB or so) without doing any harm to its functionallity? I would like to keep it just in case

2.) Will I loose my warranty if I install Linux?

Thx for your answers ;)

Answer:Satellite U400-138: Can I move the Recovery folder

Hi

1) If you would change the folder or will remove the recovery folder that you will be not able to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery!
Therefore it?s strongly recommended to create an own Recovery disk using the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator tool.
If you create this DVD then you are on the safe side and you can change everything on the HDD. If something will go wrong you will be able to restore the OS using this disk.

2) No, you will not lose the warranty if you would install Linux

Hello,

I have bought a new Satellite U400 notebook with Vista Home preinstaled on it.
I went throught initial configuration and after it has been done I realised that HDD partitions do not suits my needs.

So I resised the "Vista" partition (acctually I have shrinked it) and made the "Data" partition bigger.
I did not do anything with hidden partition.

Unfortunately when I did this procedure I formated the "Data" partition.
Now when I want to make backup DVD with TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator I got the error message saying that it is not possible because I have formated the "Data" partition.

Are there any suggestion how to solve this error?
The system goes fine, the only thing is that I am not able to backup and restore OS.

Thanks Vecerka

Hi,

I've failed with bios update which I had taken the bios file from toshiba's official support page. I'm sure that I had chosen the right bios file. But something is wrong and my laptop is bricked, now.

I'm trying to recover the bios with Phoenix Crisis Recovery. I've tried 2-3 variety of the Crisis Recovery.

I have old, stable bios backup, so I'm trying to recover with this old bios file. I've tried Win+B, FN+B, Win+F, FN+F, Fn+Esc, U key combination for crisis recovery.
By the way, I'm using 1GB FAT formated usb drive for this purpose. The machine beeps every time, and I'm waiting for 10 mins or more after the beeps.

I've put the bios file to usb disk with a lot of names "bios.wph", ".fd", "bios.fd". Also I've tried to use usb floppy, but the bios file is 2MB, so I couldn't do that.

I've also tried insyde recovery solution. I don't know the right file name for the recovery.
I've looked the bios file with a hex editor, but I haven't find the file name (for example bios.fd or something)

Please *don't* suggest for sending laptop to service solution. I have to fix this in *1-2 days* and the service is so far from me and they work slow. If I send to service, I won't take the laptop for 2 weeks.

What can I do, What is the working procedure? If toshiba allow us to update bios, they must support for recovering it, too. ASP is not a solution for everytime.

*Any help* will be appreciated.

Best Regards.

Hello!

I've upgraded my Windows Vista to Windows 8 via the Microsoft upgrade offer. Toshiba doesn't support the upgrade of Satellite PRO U400 to Win8, but it works so far, only a few features are missing ....

In this upgrade process the HDD Recovery folder from Vista remained on my E: partition (containing ~5GB of files dated from 2008 .....).

I HAVE (even 2 sets of) recovery DVDs for Vista.
The original HDDRecory infrastructure for Vista on the notebook had run defective already long ago for some reason.

Therefore there is no reason to keep the old HDD Recory folder on E:.
It is totally useless and I would like to delete this folder without formatting E:.
However, although I work with Administrator rights, this is strictly refused by the Windows 8 System.

Is there any idea how to get proper access rigths to delete the HDDRecory folder ?

Kind regards and thanks for help!
Gernot

Answer:Satellite Pro U400: How to delete Vista's HDD Recovery folder running Win 8

Until now I didn?t test such actions but if you have administrative rights maybe it is possible to ?delete? certain partition and without changing capacity to create new one.
Try to do this using disc management option in computer management.

Of course before you try to do this back-up all other important data saved on this partition.

Please let me know if this will work.

I have just bought a Satellite U400, and when I try to create the Recovery Disc with Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator program, I get an error message: "Could not find HDD Recovery folder on second drive of the first hard disk. There is no valid HDD Recovery environment on this computer".

I haven't changed anything on the HDD!!! How do I create my Recovery Disc?

Answer:Satellite U400-10J - Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator fails!

I have made many experiments with fresh preinstalled Vista and this message is shown is the folder with recovery image is missing. So the fact is the folder and data are gone.

Are you really sure you didn?t do anything? Has someone else access to your notebook?

Hi,

I have a toshiba Satellite C650 that has recently come up with a disk read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that I have read about on the internet.

I have made a Windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has Windows 7 64-bit installed. When I use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?
I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine.

Also does anyone have any suggestions as to why I am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Answer:Satellite C650 - Disk read error and recovery disk is not working

On this virtual way it is not easy to offer exact diagnostic but obviously there must be some problem with HDD. Can you obtain second one for testing purposes and exchange it. Just to be sure if HDD is ?troublemaker?.

But there is one another thing:
>I have made a Windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop....
Sorry but I don?t understand this. Can you please explain to us what have you done exactly?

Hi there,

i have set the boot sequence to boot from cd, but the message reads: non bootable disk.

I have tried to open it with ghost but it wants a password.

Toshiba Satellite A60.

Answer:Satellite A60 - Recovery disk will not boot - error non bootable disk

Hi

First of all you will be not able to extract the ghost image file because it?s secured as you could see.

I don?t know why you cannot boot from the Toshiba Recovery CD. But a reason could be:
- The CD is faulty (scratch, not more readable)
- You used a wrong CD
- The CD/DVD drive cannot handle this CD due to the old and faulty drive laser lens.

So you should firstly check if you can boot from other Microsoft Windows CD to find out if the CD/DVD drive is ok.
If this is ok then there is a issue with your CD!!!

Hi,

I live in Brazil and won a satellite M205-S4804. But i received it without any CD or DVD. No software drivers, no recovery CD or DVD.

I have both portuguese version of Windows: Vista and XP. And need to install them on my M205, but i do not found all drivers.

I tried to download the drivers in the @skIris and some components not installed fine, like a Wi-Fi card (I do not know what model is the device).

I think if i recovery the original status of my english Windows Vista (Home) and upgrade to my portuguese version(Ultimate), I will not need to reinstall the drivers...

There are a site to download the drivers and the recovery CD/DVD for my laptop?

Hello,

Why there is a frequent message about vibration has been detected, hard drive head disk has been moved to a safe position? Is there something wrong? Should I return it before the week is up?

Please answer, many many thanks!

Answer:Satellite T110-121 - Question about recovery disk and hard disk

Hi LindaMon,

What about reading your user manual?
You need an 8GB USB stick for creating a recovery medium and preinstalled Toshiba recovery disk creator.

> hard drive head disk has been moved to a safe position?
Yes, that?s normal and everything is ok with your notebook. Your HDD will be protected by HDD/SSD Alert utility that is a nice feature from Toshiba to avoid head crashes and can enhance the life of internal HDD.
But yoou can disable these notifications if you want. ;)

My laptop crashed (Toshiba L305-s5921 series).
I dont have the recover discs, but I do have the recovery disc for my Toshiba A215 series.

Can i recover my laptop with this disc.

Answer:Can I use the Satellite A215 recovery disk for Satellite L305-s5921

No!

You can not use the Recovery disk designed for A215 because the A215 is simply different notebook model which need different drivers as the L305!

The image on the recovery disk contains the OS, drivers and tools and if you would use different recovery disk then wrong drivers would be installed on the L305 and this can lead to other troubles!!!

I have read the threads on this forum, but I didn't come up with an exact answer to my problem.

With my regular PC I got a Vista Installation Disk, that also serves as recovery disk (like the one one could make with XP). One of the more useful things is that when you boot from that disk you have an option to "repair" the system, meaning that all vital files (like the bootloader...) will be restored, but for the rest all existing data wil remain. This is extremely important when for example you install a dual boot with Linux, when often Vista refuses to boot and repairing the bootloader solves the problem. Of course it can easily and quickly fix all kind of other system problems as well.

My Toshiba laptop A200 (otherwise a wonderful machine), came with the Toshiba Product Recovery disk. From all I have read on the forum and from what it says on the disk itself, I understand that it only allows for a total re-install of the whole system, factory-set, wiping out your whole disk and all on it.

Does Toshiba really leave us without a "repair" "option ??
I find that quite amazing, since after all I paid for the Vista operating system, so why shouldn't I get the options I would have if I had an original Vista disk?

If all above I is right, it means that if I want to install a dual boot with Ubuntu and would get a bootloader problem, I would loose all my data, when I only have to repair the bootloader?? (An issue that with the "repair" o... Read more

Answer:Satellite A200: Can I use Recovery disk without wiping disk

Hey Yossi

I think you have misunderstood something!

You have received the Toshiba Recovery CD with the Toshiba image! The image contains the Vista OS, Toshiba drivers, tools, utilities and additional programs!

Please don?t compare this disk to the original Microsoft Vista CD and don?t mix it!!!

So using this disk you can set the notebook back to the factory settings!!!
This is very useful because this procedure takes about 10min only and you get the whole functioning OS with all drivers, tools, etc?

Please note that no all users and customers who buy such notebook are technicians and computer scientists ;) but simply newbie and such recovery possibility is always welcome!!!

?but the usage of this Recovery CD formats the whole HDD and erases all partitions.
Therefore it?s advisable to backup the data before using the recovery CD/DVD

I'm looking for recovery CD 2 of 2. The number on the CD is PMR400139ENO. I emailed my local ASP (Al-Futtaim Electronics-CSO) a week ago, but have still heard nothing...

Is there a place where I can download the contents of this disk?

You can only get a new one from an ASP.

Hi

As far as I know on the Toshiba shop (link that you posted) you can only order recovery disk for newer notebooks they was delivered without a disk but I?m not sure.

Anyway, if you can?t order a new disk online you should contact the local ASP. They should be able to order a disk for you.
Here you can search for the nearest ASP:

Answer:Need Satellite M70 Recovery disk

If you need a Recovery disk then you would have to ask your ASP in your country for such disk.

In very rare cases you will be not able to order a Recovery disk if the notebook series is too old. In such case you will have to install the Windows OS using the Microsoft disk and then you could download and reinstall the Toshiba driver which you could find on the Toshiba European page.

The second possibility is to install the OS from the Microsoft CD and then to install the whole drivers and Toshiba tools.

I'm in doubt about it. According notebook specification Satellite M50-161 is delivered with follow medias:
- Recovery Medias (CD-ROM or DVD)
- Express Media Player
- Additional Software CD
- Microsoft Works Suite

All old notebook models are delivered with recovery CDs. I have old Satellite m70 and still have original Toshiba recovery installations DVD.

Anyway, you can try to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and ask for help. To be honest I don't believe you will get it for this old notebook model. When trying to run the recovery disk on my A75 I get a message that it will not run on a non Toshiba machine. It looks like I'm missing some system files.

Answer:Trying to run the recovery disk on my Satellite A75

Hi

Do you use the Recovery disk delivered together with this notebook?
Are you sure you?ve got the right disk?

The other reasons could be a faulty or missing information in the DMI.
The DMI contains details about the notebook model, series number and other necessary details.
If such information is not correct then the notebook cannot be recognized as a Toshiba unit and therefore the Toshiba recovery procedure would be not possible.

Check this US page:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/outFrm.jsp?ofId=AskIris&searchString=DMI+A75\

There you can find info regarding the DMI and Sat A75

I wanted to go back and reload from my recovery disk because I will be giving my mother my laptop. I wanted to start her on a clean slate since it will be her first laptop and she can do what she wants with it.

Is there any other way to clean off the Pc and start from day one?

Thanks!:cool

Answer:PC will not start up on recovery disk...

Insert the Setup compact disc (CD) and restart the computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD.
When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; choose the repair or recover option by pressing R.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console.
When prompted, type the Administrator password.
At the system prompt, type Recovery Console commands; type help for a list of commands, or help commandname for help on a specific command.
To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit.
Have you checked to make sure allow active content to run from disc has been enabled?

When I  boot in safe mode I get my normal desktop but not much works including networking. Most anything I try yields an explorer  error message that the file or resource cannot be found, etc.  Curiously I can open any PDF file with Acrobat and I can even browse and load  other PDF files on the hard disk from within acrobat. I ran boot log and in fact most of the the drivers other than sysroot... did not load. I tried all of the repair options provided by HP and microsoft without success.  So I decided to restore using a set of disks I dutifully prepared when I recently moved my system.  Unfortunately the restore from disk option cannot find the boot file on disk #1.  When I put the disk in another machine I see a normal set of foders including one named "Boot"??I REALLY want to get my system back to what I had when I exeuted  the restore to restore point!

I've got a Toshiba p10 and the HD has crashed. I've had this machine for 2 years, but I bought it 2nd hand, therefore I don't have any system disks.

Where can I get a system recovery disk and is it true that the recovery disk will only work if I install the same size HD? The existing drive is 30g and I'd like to install a 40g drive instead.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer:Satellite P10: Need recovery disk after HDD crash

Hi

No it?s not true. You can use a different HDD sizes and the recovery CD has nothing to do with HDD compatibility.
You should only be sure that the notebook and BIOS will recognize the new HDD size but I think the 40GB are supported on this notebook.

So if you put a new HDD into the notebook you have only to boot up from the CD drive.
In my knowledge the recovery CD and every supported and compatible device you can purchase from the Toshiba service partner in your country.

I found the link on the Toshiba support page so I recommend visiting this site.

Good luck

Hi

Are you sure that you are using the right recovery disk?

Did you change some parts in the notebook ie. motherboard???
Usually the DMI contains some details about the notebook like serial number, model number etc?
If the motherboard has been changed and the DMI has not been updated then you could get such issue.
In such case the DMI has to be updated and this can be done by an ASP!!!

Alternative you can install Windows from a normal Microsoft disk. All drivers you can download on the Toshiba page. :)

Answer:Need recovery disk for Satellite C855-1TC

What you need is recovery disc for Satellite C855 with part number PSCBWE. Maybe you should leave your mail address here. If nobody can help you order it from https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Are you not able to create it anymore using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator?

Hi everybody,

first, sorry for my english, I'm a belgian and I speak french.

Yesterday I bought a toshiba Satellite P300-1CI, when I started, I must installed Vista home.
I would like to format my disk and reinstall my old Windows XP.

My question is : How can keep an image disk with Vista? I don't have an installation disk of Vista and don't know my registration key of it.
How can I have a recovery disk ?

Can you help me please.

PS : Sorry for my english

Answer:How can I get a recovery disk for Satellite P300-1CI?

Hi mate

User manual is really interesting document and in most cases it answer all you questions ;)

Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk should be created before you would format and install on the HDD.
You have to use the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator application in order to create the Recovery DVD.

Now to you other question;
The Vista image which is preinstalled and placed on the Recovery disk (after recovery disk has been created) is activated already and you don?t need to insert any keys or activate anything.

Hi all,
I have a Satellite P200-17c and im looking for a recorey disk. Is there anyone out there with the disk they got with the laptop?

Answer:Need recovery disk for Satellite P200-17c

Hi dude,

unfortunately there is no one out there which will give you a new recovery. You can only contact a local authorized service partner to ask them for a new recovery disk which will cost you something..

Here?s a link to find the nearest ASP in your country:

Hi,

I have a Satellite A30 range and I am about to install a new hard drive but I do not have the original recovery disk. I am told I can no longer obtain this from toshiba directly so I am wondering if anybody can direct me to finding a replacement original or copy.

I have googled it but finding it hard to sift through to find the exact one I am looking for.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite A30 - Where and how to order the Recovery Disk

Hmm?. I thought you can order the Toshiba recovery CD from the ASP in your country but if the notebook series it too old this would be not possible.

However, you can also install the Windows OS using the Microsoft CD and then you could install the Toshiba driver from the Toshiba driver page.
The XP driver should be placed in ARCHVE area.

*Archive* -> Satellite -> Satellite A -> Satellite A30 -> Win XP

Hi amrit711,

The Toshiba recovery disk you can?t download so hopefully you find something with the same model where you can get recovery disk 2.

But you can also order the recovery disk from Toshiba directly. It?s not for free but these disks are pretested and should work properly:

It keeps saying there is no operating system and aborting my attempts to run the recovery disc again, or starting the recovery process and then stopping.
I really need a hand as this is my mum's computer, i said i would help her and have instead crippled the laptop!!!!! DOH!!

Hello, at me such problem. I when have bought tried to change splitting of disks that was not half-and-half and that for disk C it was taken away for example 50 Gbyte and on disk D the remained. And so, suffered suffered and because of that that did not know that in BIOS the tag is established that it was impossible to touch SATA. All has spoilt.
Also has removed even the protected area on a disk for system restoration :(

Help please, I wish to return all as was. It is for this purpose necessary Recovery Disk for Toshiba Satellite A300-15E

In advance thanks all responded

Answer:It is very necessary recovery disk for Satellite A300-15E

Well buddy?. You mad a big mistake? you should have created the Recovery disk firstly before you have changed or deleted something from the disk.

I don?t know if you will be able to use the recovery HDD option but try to press the F8 buttons immediately after you have powered up the notebook.
Usually the menu should appear and there you should choose the first option called ?Repair my Computer? and then Toshiba recovery.

Well if this is not possible then you have no other choice as to order the Recovery disk from this website:
https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

I have a client who has a A10-131. I have had to reload the OS, but the new DVD-Writer will not boot the recovery CD or any other original Windows CD for that matter. Is anyone able to help with this problem. I need to find out what solution is possible with such a problem.

Thank You.

Answer:Satellite A10-131 does not boot from Recovery or any other disk

How did you try to boot from the drive???
Did you change the boot order in the BIOS???

Usually several boot possibilities are available.
1. You can press the C button immediately after notebook powering to detect the CD/DVD drive booting
2. you can use the F12 button to get the booting menu
3. you will change the boot order in BIOS to ODD firstly

But it?s interesting to know if your new ODD is compatible with the notebook?

The model number is from Toshiba Australian page and therefore you can buy a Toshiba recovery disk from an authorized service provider:

So search for nearest service centre and ask for a recovery disk for your notebook model. The guys can order one for you and tell how much it would cost ;)

Hi all,

Then he hit with "there is a fee" ?????? i just over ?400 for this laptop and i have to pay for the disk as well.
i dont how much they cost but its a rip off.

so i got a ref number and returned the laptop with a full cash back.

so dear toshiba i shall advise my marketing dept that we will not be buying laptops from you at all

Answer:Satellite L870 - Recovery disk fee

Hi Rod

It is not easy to discuss something if you don?t understand how it works. Compare Toshiba with other notebook manufacturers and you will see that almost all notebook manufacturers offers notebooks with preinstalled OS and without recovery disc.

Recovery media must be created by notebook owner. It is described in user?s manuals document . Some people don?t care about anything so if you lose it several times Toshiba should send it to you for free?

Toshiba offers it for fair price of 30 Euros so for that money you will get activated operating system including all drivers, tools, utilities and some additional software for free.

Hi

I have a Satellite A50 that I am trying to rebuild. I insert the recovery disk that came with the laptop. I get a window with the message
"This Recovery and Applications CD is not configured to work with this machine (Portable PC). This CD is for: Satellite A50. Please use the correct Recovery and Applications CD".

I'm looking at this message. I'm looking at my laptop with Satellite A50 written on it. And I don't know what to do next. Can anyone help?

Thank you.... Peter

Answer:Satellite A50 - Recovery Disk not recognised

Hello Peter

You didn?t tell us anything about this old machine but here is how it works:

Certain recovery image is designed for A50 model and before recovery image installation starts the specific information saved on the disc will be compared with information saved in notebook (mainboard). If they are not the same your notebook will not be identified as ?right notebook model?.

Why this can happen? This happen if the mainboard was changed and DMI information on mainboard was not updated.

I need help in finding a recovery disk like the one I got when I first brought my laptop as my other one snapped and I have yet been able to find one anywhere :( .

I badly need to reformat my hard drive and I have very little experience in these things so it would be great if someone could point me in the right direction :D .

Answer:Satellite P100-286 - Need recovery disk

Hi!

If you need a new recovery disk ask your nearest ASP (authorized service provider). The recovery disk can?t be downloaded and if you lost it you must pay for a new one.

You can also format and install your notebook with the Microsoft installation disk and then download and install all drivers from the Toshiba website but if you have only little experience in these things would be recovery disk the best way.

hi all,

since yesterday my Satellite L500-20x have only Bluescreens called "Driver not Less or equal" --> Restart! He boots to win7 till login, after that EVERYTIME restart. I try a lot stuff to solve:
Systemrepair (3Times) and no changes
SystemRecovery (by HDD not CD) Recovery works but still bluescreens and no changes to fix the Problem.
Memory check (from Win7) checked it 3 Times all 100% ok.
Toshiba HDD Recovery (i try many times but he shut down EVERYTIME by bluescreen while Process... so i cant do this - unpossible to finish Recovery!)

Thats the first Notebook I every buyed and I never heard of a Recovery Disk - so I dont create one! Now I cant come into win7 - so I cant create it now. Anybody have any Ideas? I want windows new to install... but i dont have the same Win Disk. Notebook Win = Win7 64Bit all i have is WIn7 32Bit for my HomePC.

I need help!

Answer:Satellite L500-20X - No recovery disk

Hi beAm,

If you don?t have a Toshiba recovery disk you can order one from Toshiba directly:
https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

This would be worth a try if HDD recovery option doesn?t work properly.

If you order such a disk and install it the original factory settings on HDD will be restored. A clean factory installation will be restored with all drivers and tools (out of box settings) and if this doesn?t work it seems to be a hardware malfunction?

Hi

i have lots of stuff installed and configured, that took quite a long time.
Now i wonder, is it possible to use Toshiba Recovery to backup all this, or does it just deal with system itself?

My c: drive which contains all progs and system data has 17Gb of used space (not counting pagefile and hiberfil) so it wont be too many dvds.
I'd like to have a total recovery for the case of some destructive virus action or more probable underage hackers-terrorists' attack, so that in case of problems I could easily have my system restored with all programs installed, configured etc. without need to repeat all that.

Can Toshiba Recovery make it this way?

Answer:What can recovery disk do - Satellite L300D-11M

Using the Toshiba Recovery DVD will set the notebook back to the factory settings.
This means that you HDD will be formatted and everything will be erased from the HDD.
Furthermore the Windows Operating system (in your case Vista) and all Toshiba Tools, Utilities and drivers will be installed too.

Simply said you will get everything back like at the first day of purchase.

Hi,

Windows 7 does not work anymore on my machine and I have not created a recovery Disk. Can I ask Toshiba to provide a recovery CD which I can use to create a bootable USB since the Toshiba T130 does not have a CD drive?

Thanks,

You can order original recovery disc but I don?t know how you want to create bootable USB.
I know it is pretty complicated with this notebook without ODD but you can use ordered disc with external optical disc drive for recovery image installation.

Answer:Satellite P10-504 - Recovery disk will not load

Hello

> all i get is the window box asking what would you like windows to do,,like what you get when you insert a vid or music disc
That means you want to use the recovery disk in Windows??? This will not work.

The point is that you have to boot from recovery disk instead Windows on HDD so before the computer starts go into boot menu and select the CD/DVD drive as boot device. Make sure the recovery disk is in the drive and recovery disk will start. Now follow the screen instructions.

Hi all,

I'm wondering if there's a way to indentify which recovery CD or DVD came with a particular laptop model?

I have a number of Toshiba laptops and it's only recently that I've started to make a note of which CD/DVD goes with a machine.
eg
GMR400788EN0 goes with Satellite Pro A200, PSAE4E-03U017EN

I'm trying to figure out which CD goes with a Satellite Pro L20, PSL25E-00800CEN

Thanks

Answer:Satellite Pro L20 - Can I identify the right recovery disk?

Hi

Sorry but I think there is no way to identify which CD belongs to which notebook.
If your notebook was delivered with the recovery disk there should be a CD label or so on it.

Anyway, normally it should not be a problem and you must test it if it?s the right recovery disk.
Or do you have so much Toshiba notebooks? ;)
